Four Freedoms
In The Four Freedoms speech, President Roosevelt describes the historical context in which the U.S.
finds itself one year before the attack on Pearl Harbor, but describing that context is not the point of
his speech. His point is to promote the four freedoms but he does not actually get to outlining the four
freedoms until the very end of the speech. Consider his speech in connection with the Our Freedoms
and Rights document and the information provided as historical background. Why does Roosevelt
believe it is necessary to articulate a new set of American freedoms? In The Four Freedoms speech
President Roosevelt was speaking to the American people, the ones who had fear of the war that was
being fought across the ocean. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

hungered for knowledge no matter what ethnic background they belonged to.

Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia Research Papers
LEUKEMIA 2 Abstract This paper discusses Leukemia. The paper gives a detailed description of
Leukemia which will include signs and symptoms of the disease and a review of how bone marrow
and the circulatory system normally work to give a better understanding of what leukemia does to the
body. The paper will also discuss risk factors and causes of the disease as well as prevention
techniques. This paper will also go over how the disease is diagnosed and a description of what the
diagnostic procedures actually include. The paper also reviews treatments for Leukemia including
drugs that are commonly used for treatment. The expected outcome of the disease will also be
reviewed as well as special side effects of Leukemia that will change how someone ... Show more

A lot of Leukemia patients are at risk of developing other forms of Leukemia or cancer in general
because of the extremely high levels of radiation they areLEUKEMIA 6 exposed to during treatment.
Exposure to certain pesticides as a kid or even in the womb has been statistically tied to higher
chances of developing Leukemia. If a mother drinks alcohol, smokes cigarettes, or does illicit drugs
while she is pregnant, her child has increased chances of developing Leukemia. A family history of
Leukemia can increase your chances of developing Leukemia. The biggest prevention of Leukemia is
do not smoke, drink, or do drugs during pregnancy, stay away from areas with high levels of radiation,

Feminism, And Existentialist Feminism
When the word mother comes to mind, most people feel a sense of comfort and imagine a person who
is giving, caring, and dependable. These may sounds like worthy qualities at first, but together they
form a major source of oppression for any caregiving figure, and different feminist theories such as
care focused feminism, psychoanalytic feminism, and existentialist feminism all have something to
say about it. Motherhood is certainly a necessary role in a family and even in society, but the social
construction around this role has led to many different ideas about the way mothers and caregivers are
treated versus how they should be treated. Motherhood is a source of oppression for women and in a
patriarchal sex/gender system, it can be solved using a combination of educating children to how to be
caring, using a dual parenting method of care giving and trying to get women out of the home into the
work force. I will start by looking at motherhood through a care focused feminist lens. Care focused
feminist theory uses a psycho moral viewpoint to describe the ways boys and girls grow up differently,
and thus, experience the world in different ways. Carol Gilligan, a moral psychologist, describes male
development of moral reasoning as just, fair, and righteous, contrary to female development, which
stresses the wants and needs of other people (Tong 152). With this foundation we can see that these
experiences not only shape the way people think and reason, but also how they

Causes Of Social Loafing
Social loafing is defined as the tendency of individuals to put forth less effort when they are part of a
group. Since all of the members in the group are contributing to reach the same goal, each member
will contribute less than if they were working individually. This concept is a huge issue when people
work in groups. Almost everyone has experienced social loafing at some point in their life, although
they may not realize it. There are several hypothesizes causes for social loafing, as well as several
ways to reduce it. The term social loafing was first introduced in 1913 by a researcher named
Ringelmann, who conducted a study. His study involved individuals pulling on a rope, both in a group
and individually. He found that the output was less when people pulled the rope in a group than when
they pulled it individually. The results of this study were replicated in 1974 by Ingham, Levinger,
Graves, and Peckham. After the study was replicated, the term social loafing was developed. Since
this experiment showed that social loafing applies to physical tasks, it was questioned if it then applied
to cognitive tasks as well. Petty, Harkings, Williams, and Latane (1977) conducted an experiment to
see if cognitive tasks were prone to social loafing as well. In their experiment, they divided
participants into three groups. In one group, students were asked to edit a poem, and this group was
under the assumption that they were the only ones responsible for the task. Group two

Racial Hygiene And The Victims Of Medical Experiments
Each year, about 2.7 million shelter animals are euthanized, simply because they have nowhere to call
home . We humans seem to think we can determine which lives are worthy, or unworthy, of life.
Similarly, Hitler believed he had the right to determine which lives were worthy of living. During the
Holocaust, it is estimated that about 6 million Jews were euthanized because he deemed them as
undeserving of life. Included within that estimation are the victims of medical experiments, which
physicians imposed on them without consent. People in positions of power determined who were
worthy of continuing to live, with what we now consider basic human rights, and those unworthy were
euthanized or used in medical experimentation. By simply understanding the expansive amount of
pain and suffering these unworthy individuals went through, you will understand why it is imperative
that we teach this dark point in human history and make sure it is never repeated.
In the early twentieth century, a popular idea known as racial hygiene played a prominent role in
creating a division between races. The German government created a set of policies that dictated
which individuals were worthy and unworthy of reproducing, in the hopes of obtaining more desirable
qualities, based on these ideas. In 1933, the German government started a series of forced
sterilizations, without consent. Robert Jay Lifton writes that a group of individuals deemed
hereditarily sick were the main targets.

How The Film Industry Has A Huge Budget For The City Over...
PART 2 CIRCULAR ECONOMY
Nowadays people know the price of everything and the value of nothing Oscar Wilde, 1890
Again, my concern started with a personal experience. In 2014, I was working as an Experience
Designer for Universal Pictures NBC International Ltd. .
The film industry has a huge budget to spend on the building of visual artefacts. However, I was quite
shocked by the squandering of resources I witnessed. There was no care or awareness of sustainability.
Also, I expected designers and production to work much more closely together, which would have
prevented much waste in the first place. Yet, the film industry being as hierarchical as it is, production
never got back to me.
According to the London Data store,
London is already the third busiest city in filmmaking in the world, behind LA and New York. This
booming industry has brought £770m of investment to the city over the last four years.

I have always been fascinated by transforming materials into something magical. Yet most of the time
my task was to transform the very cheapest materials into a luxuriously looking illusion.
Obviously as a designer one aims to make the best of available resources in the most efficient way.
But ever working quicker and faster and thus taking a toll on quality, made me feel uncomfortable. I
felt trapped in a Kleenex society (source?) a disposable product which we buy, use and throw

Student Athletes For The University Of Ohio
Secondly, for student athletes who practice a sport and attend classes, it is often difficult to complete
both tasks. Many students begin to show less motivation making it harder to stay focus and attend
their required classes. This is the case of student athlete Cardale Jones, a quarterback for the
University of Ohio. After taking his sociology final exam, he commented that coming to class was
pointless when his only responsibility was to play football for the university (Tracy 1). Student
athletes start to show poor academic achievement when they consume a lot of time in their sports and
often forget about their role of being a student. For instance, when students are not able to complete
their school assignments during the day they decide to study late and do not sleep the necessary hours
they need in order for their bodies to function and their brains to focus. In this case, the poor
achievement in students is notable because they do not perform well in school and do not have a good
nutrition. They often do not have time to eat the required three meals a day that their bodies need. The
poor academic achievement is often noticeable when many coaches begin to tell their athletes that
they are not allowed to take classes that interfere with practice. This puts athletes in a barrier when
they have to balance the two roles of responsibility of attending class and completing homework
assignments and attending the games. Student athletes have a poor mental and physical body

Amphora Research Paper
I chose the amphora from the Museum of Classical Archaeology that has a Roman date. During the
Bronze Age was when the Greco Roman word, amphora, developed in ancient Greek. An amphora is a
large vessel used for storage and transport in pre modern times. Amphorae (plural) were used in large
numbers for the transport and storage of various products, usually wine, but it was used for both liquid
and dry products. This amphora was also used for the typical purposes of storage and transport, but I
believe it was used on a ship. It was obviously found sunk in the sea, as it has lime incrustations and
remains of shells that cling to the surface and so, therefore, it was used on a ship. The base aided
transport by ship, and the amphorae were stored upright or on their sides in layers. If it was upright,
they were most likely held by a rack or ropes passed through their handles to prevent shifting during
rough seas. Amphorae often indicate the age of a shipwreck and the geographic origin of the cargo so
they benefit maritime archaeologist who are exploring shipwrecks. Amphorae are usually ceramic, but
they have been found made of metals and other materials. This amphora seems to be ceramic, but it s
hard to know with the shells and lime around it from being in the sea. Roman amphorae were ... Show

I believe this amphora was a neck amphora since the neck and body meet at an angle rather than a
continuous curve. Neck amphorae were used in the early history of ancient Greece, but was replaced
by the one piece type from around the 7th century BC onward. Therefore, this amphora must have
been from sometime before the 7th century. Amphorae varied in height as the largest stands as tall as
1.5 meters while some were fewer than 30 centimeters high. Most were around 45 centimeters high
which I believe this amphora is about this

Princess Diana Influences
Princess Diana was known as the people s princess who stunned the world with her ability to conquer
any hurdles life threw at her. She also was known for showing the people that she cared. Her sudden
death left the world in shock, and many people say her touching story changed their life. Princess
Diana is an influential person because of her ability to overcome hardship, her unconventional royal
duties, her widely recognized charitable work, and the impact of her death.
Throughout the years of Princess Diana s life she showed her capability to overcome hardship, and
work through her pain to become someone the world would never forget. Her life began on July 1,
1961, in her quiet hometown of Sandringham, England. Diana learned at an early age how to deal with
her rough family life. Her struggles began when her parents divorced when she was a small child,
further lessening her relationship with her parents. Her and her four other siblings helped each other
through that tough time.
Prince Charles first became interested in Princess Diana when she was 16, this is where their love
interest began. At the time he was dating her older sister, Lady Sarah. A few years later she and Prince
Charles begin talking. After becoming friends, and eventually lovers Prince Charles and Diana
Spencer (her maiden name) marry on July 29, 1981 now being formally known as Diana, Princess of

As stated by an online source, Parents worry their children may not get into a good college without a
rigorous amount of work ( Introduction to Do Students Have Too Much Homework?: At Issue ).
Younger children particularly do not yet have the skills to manage and complete their school work on
their own, so parents have to take time out of their schedules to help their kids do the work. Not only
that, but routine family meals and quality time is often impossible to fit in, especially when there is
more than one in the family that has homework. Ponte mentions, some argue that homework teaches
kids responsibility and organizational skills valuable for success (Ponte). In actuality, however, the
only thing homework really tests students on is how good they are at organizing their time by
sacrificing what they need to allow time for schoolwork. Children should instead learn responsibility
from things like chores. Most parents do not require their kids to stay up even later after their
homework to do laundry, which they will definitely need to be able to do in life. Less homework
leaves more time for enforcing pertinent responsibilities and practicing life

Essay on Consumerism Taking Over Our Universities
In contemporary society, the average person is coddled and raised to be sensitive about everything
whether it be good or bad. This translates over to universities, which causes them to be less academic
and more consumer based. As the years progress, the trend is becoming more prevailing which poses
the question, do universities truly care about the education that they are providing, or is it turning
more into a business? Although some consumerism in education is good and is a driving force to
better institutions, too much like we have in it now is beginning to deteriorate the quality of the
education provided and in turn weakening American society. Consumerism is becoming more

how consumerism is tarnishing higher education. Consumerism affects students grades, according to,
Grade Inflation in the College Classroom, students are not studying as much as students in the past

The Low Form Credit Risk Model

default free zero coupon bonds. In order to use this model the specification of the models parameters
should be done. More precisely, the hazard rate risk neutral model, recovery rate and a default free
term structure should be chosen.
Hazard process.
There are several most popular approaches for hazard process estimation.
First approach defines the hazard process as a stochastic process with help of Vasicek and CIR
processes. Another approach that underlies the cross sectional estimation considers the hazard process
to be either a stochastic or a constant. When the hazard rate is a stochastic process, there ... Show more

Minority Group Marginalization
Marginalization of minority groups has been a problem in the United States for a quite a long time.
Even the government and the society have set some rules and constraints against certain minority
groups in the United States. One of the minority groups is the homosexual groups. Many states of
United States marginalized the issue of same sex marriage so much that they placed ban on same sex
marriage. In those states, even the police officers treat same sex marriage people as criminal because
of their sexual preference. Another minority groups is the disability groups. The disable people
experience prejudices and faced various discriminatory treatment from the government. So like the
disable people, many other minority groups face the health disparities. In the ariticle, Culturally Based

Benefits Of Offshore Oil Drilling
Offshore oil drilling is a big contribution to obtaining oil for the U.S., but it is also a big controversy
to continue offshore drilling or to stop the drilling. most of the world s energy comes from the use of
oil, even though there are other resources to use oil is the most commonly used, But there is a shortage
in oil especially in the U.S. so they suggest drilling for oil in the ocean to reach unexplored oil wells.
There are benefits in offshore oil drilling such as jobs, domestic fuel, and environmental benefits.
Those that argue the U.S. should expand the offshore oil drilling believe that the benefits drilling
brings will help the U.S. out of its foreign oil dependency. Although the side effects are have big
impacts just like the benefits. The side effects include environmental risks, oil dependency, and
whether or not there is enough oil. Offshore oil drilling is a subject not many know about, there is a lot
of research that still needs to be done and a lot of research that still does not give positive conclusions.
All in all I believe Energy Efficiency is the best solution to offshore drilling an example would be
using electric cars, using solar, and wind power for electricity, and changing how we obtain energy
altogether. One of America s priorities is creating more jobs for everyone and offshore oil drilling does
create jobs like specialized technicians, laborers, cooks, doctors, scientists and a number of other
specialized workers as well as secondary jobs

Creating Opportunities For Students Proficiency ...
I understand the need to create opportunities for my students to show their proficiency in directing
their own learning and have done so within my classroom environment. I am aware that as the
Learning Manager this requires me to have a clear understanding of each student s strengths, needs,
and interests. This is needed in order to create a diverse and relevant classroom experience that
revolves around the curriculum. Please see my examples of such opportunities below:
EXAMPLE 1
During diagnostic testing of a particular year 8 class the reading and spelling levels of certain students
were well below average. These results were amplified when it was obvious that the attendance within
the class was sporadic and behaviour unruly. These combined, led to a poor attitude towards
classroom participation and assessment tasks. The action displayed below was created after my EPL 3
placement when it became evident that the classroom needed consistent routine and positive
reinforcement in order to encourage student participation.
The required action manifested in the form of motivating student interest, learning and differentiation
in the classroom. The Year 8 students needed a form of routine within the class and a point of interest
which would be renewed systematically throughout the term. Thus, the rules and expectations chart
was created in tandem with the students, in order for the students to take ownership of their behavior
and attitudes within the classroom.

Sure, no one s going to stop you, Jenna replies as she plays and looks at her food.
Why aren t you sitting with Vanessa? Nikki asks.
Guys I m sorry. I realized how Vanessa was using me and I should ve listened to you guys and never

Do you guys forgive me?
All three of them stared at each other before they said something back, I guess, Mary said in a happy
and forgiving tone.
Well we have missed you and your weird presence over the past weeks, Jenna says staring away from
me.
So we good? I say with a raised eyebrows.

Ronald Reagan Racialization
Nevertheless, Nixon s attempt to foist ideas of drug use and immorality onto his political opponents,
including minorities was not especially successful as a racial project. Indeed, as indicated by polling
around the rise of Ronald Reagan, Americans did not see drugs and crime as central issues around
which the presidency should revolve (Citation). President Ronald Reagan who reaped the harvest of

Moreover, the fact that it comes from one of Reagan s closest advisers clearly shows even if the racial
project were not ubiquitous, the sentiment and strategy surrounding this racial project informed the
President s decision making. With whites disproportionately represented in the electorate, Reagan and
his advisors only had to appeal to the white majority, directly and proportionately at the expense of the
black minority. But, because the number of white Christian evangelical Americans is shrinking, it
would follow that these racial projects diminish in power as the hegemonic demographic loses its
majority. Indeed, Paul Roberts 2016 Book The End of White Christian America describes how these
racial projects and unifications are losing power based on demographic shifts in the population of

Essay about Paid Parental Leave
Parental Leave:
Paid parental leave should be equal and for both parents once a child is born
Recently women s rights and women s equality in the workplace has come back to the fore as a topic
for discussion in government agencies and the United Nations. Whilst this is a very important topic,
when it comes to time off from work when a new child is born, women in the US have some
provision, whereas men have none.
The Family and Medical Aid Act (FLMA), of 1993, provides for 12 weeks of unpaid, job protected
leave for certain specified events (8). Whilst one could refer to this as maternity or paternity leave if
taken because of a pregnancy, this would not be strictly true. Where maternity and paternity leave are
offered around the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There is no distinction made for mother or father, as both are deemed as important, therefore they can
carve up the 16 months as needed. If the U.S. was concerned about the cost of paid parental leave, it
only has to look to it s neighbors to the north for some ideas. In the state of Québec in Canada, the
government has a plan called the QPIP, or Québec Parental Insurance Plan (2). QPIP is specifically
designed for the father as the mother is provided for by other means. It is, as the name states,
effectively an insurance plan that gets paid into by the father, if eligible, to help provide for paid leave
at the time of birth. One distinction made clear in this model though, is that the benefits are for the
biological father, which could be different from the male adult who will be bringing up the child.
It has been argued that maternity leave is not only harmful to business but also to women themselves,
and that it can be a burden on businesses so they may think twice about employing women. (7) Where
leave is given, whether paid or unpaid, businesses have to fill the position vacated by the parents and
this in itself creates additional work and cost for employers who have to pay for job advertisements,
background checks and time for interviews. They are also faced with the cost of training the

Essay On Iceberg Theory
One way of looking at Hemingway s (1932) Iceberg Theory is through Conversational Implicature
Theory. This approach is part of the pragmatics approach applying to literature.
The application of pragmatics in literary analysis dates back to the 1970s. Although previous
researchers like Morris (1938) had already proposed the connection between pragmatics and rhetoric,
it was not until 1971 that Ohmann first touched the field by defining literature as a type of discourse.
Later in 1976, Van Dijk first used the name Literary Pragmatics . In Pratt s (1977) Toward a Speech
Acts Theory of Literary Discourse, the author claimed that language in literary works is also
analyzable by linguistics like other forms of language, and this theory was later ... Show more content

By saying the hills look like white elephants, the girl tries to draw out another topic. White elephant in
English is something expensive but useless or troublesome. At this moment, readers cannot know her
intention, but considering their later conversations, the girl is implicating the baby:
By intentionally take the elephant as the animal, the man violates the Maxim of Relation. By saying
words contradictory to each other, he also violates the Maxim of Quality. He stops the girl from
talking about the baby, which receives a reply sounds irony to him. That is why his tone turns harsh.
The man s provocative attitude forces the girl to change the topic. Before she tries a second time, they
talk about a kind of Spanish alcohol, during which we can see that the girl does not know Spanish, and
it can be further speculated that she relies on the man on this trip. Then their topic changes to licorice.
Readers can say it for sure that the girl is talking with implicature:
The man s answer violates the Maxim of Quality, since it is impossible that everything tastes like
licorice. The girl also violates the Maxim of Quality. She knows the man s words are not true, but still
echoes with him. She emphasizes that all the things people have waited so long for taste like licorice,

Harry Potter Monomyth
Base on Joseph Campbell s 17 Stages of the Monomyth the novel Harry Potter and the Sorcerer s
Stone includes quite a few stages.
The Call to Adventure: The Call to Adventure present itself in chapter 4 The Keeper of the Keys when
Hagrid arrives at the shack. Before Hagrid s arrival Harry Potter was a normal boy living in a normal
world. However, that is until he is informed about Hogwarts, his famous parents. the fact that he is a
wizard and famous himself. The Call to Adventure becomes clearer when he finally receives the
acceptance letter from Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Originally Harry was supposed
to attend Stonewall High now he will have to leave what he once knew and venture into the
unknown(wizard world.)
__
Refusal of the Call: Harry refused the call when he didn t think he could be a wizard. I think you must
have made a mistake. I don t think I can be a wizard. It was all too surreal for him from living half of
his life as an average teenage boy bullied by his family to finding out he is a wizard. It was hard for
him to grasp. His reaction is normal in a sense, but the way he reacted was due to his insecurity. In his
mind, how can he be a wizard if he couldn t protect himself(perform magic) from his Uncle Vernon,
Dudley, and Aunt Petunia.

Hero Vs Perseus
Introduction: Hook, background information, title of the works, and thesis statement
Body Paragraph 1: Explain how the hero s courage embodies the definition of a hero
Body Paragraph 2: Explain how the hero s outstanding achievements embody the definition of a hero
Body Paragraph 3: Explain how the hero s noble qualities embody the definition of a hero
Body Paragraph 4: Explain why others would be wrong to believe the other hero is the better example
Conclusion: Rephrase your thesis and main ideas, and leave your audience with something insightful
As a child, I, and many other kids had a very loose definition of a hero , we had no grasp of the
qualities of a true hero: courage, honor, strength, etc. In the story of Perseus, the hero goes on an
adventure of gods and monsters showing great courage and strength to defeat the monster Gorgon to
save his kingdom and mother. In the story of Odyseus, a man cursed by the gods he forsake uses his
courage and battle hardiness to guide his crew safely back home after being steered off course by
Poseidon. Both heroes show the qualities in their heroic deeds and actions, they are both wonderful
examples of a hero however their stories show us that one is more noble and honorable in his deeds.
Between the two stories, The Odyssey, and Perseus, Perseus is the more heroic of the two, just through
his reasons and actions throughout his adventure. Mark Twain defines courage by saying Courage is
resistance to fear, mastery of fear

William Shakespeare s The Tempest
William Shakespare s The Tempest introduces a dynamic and colorful protagonist, Prospero.
Throughout the play, he establishes himself as a multi dimensional character. Prospero s interaction
with other characters in the play is vital in uncovering the many different sides of his personality.
Prospero displays a different part of his personality when he interacts with Caliban, Ariel, and
Ferdinand, all of whom are ploys in his master plan to regain his crown. Prospero assimilates his
personality to reflect those who he is interacting with in order to manipulate them into helping him
fulfill his own agenda of reclaiming Milan from his brother. Prospero s authoritative nature can be
seen as a parallel to the behavior of New World colonists, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Prospero s interaction with Caliban may at first be seen as cruel and inhumane. Neverthless, Prospero
does not denounce Caliban without reason and even teaches Caliban a helpful skill, the skill of
language. Prospero s relationship with Caliban shows the readers the cruel side of Prospero while
simultaneously depicting his reasonable side. This interaction is similar to the interaction between
colonists and the New World natives. Colonists would arrive on new and unknown lands and befriend
the natives to gain knowledge about the new terrain. But, once the colonists had no use of the
indigenous people, they were enslaved and used to the advantage of the mother country. Another
character that Prospero has an authoritative relationship with is the spirit of Ariel. Nevertheless,
Prospero s relationship with Ariel is less brutal than his relationship with Caliban. Prospero also
commands Ariel to do things for him that will make it easier for him to regain his crown, however,
Prospero gives Ariel an incentive for complying with his rules. Throughout the play, Prospero
promises Ariel that after he gets his dukedom back, Ariel will be set free to do as he pleases on the
island. While Prospero does abide by his promise in the end, he strings Ariel along for a long time
before actually following through with his word. Prospero keeps adding another task

Self-Esteem And Self Esteemcy
Build their self esteem, self determination and efficacy
From the different challenges identified, it was established that adolescent girls were often confronted
with many identity conflicts and low self esteem. It was during the adolescent stage that many girls
experience new societal expectations and responsibilities, which often resulted in identity confusion or
internal conflict that needed to be resolved during adolescence. Consequently, the best ways of
engaging girls were to first build their self esteem, self determination, self efficacy and confidence.
According to Powell (2004), by being supportive and giving tasks and challenges that raise self
esteem, adolescent girls may be able to have success in school and develop self motivation. Powell
(2004) stressed the need for supportive environments and the need to allow adolescents to develop
their own unique identities. According to Erickson (1968), adolescents were often at the fifth
psychosocial stage of human development. This stage was called Identity versus Identity Confusion.
According to Erickson, if adolescents were not allowed to explore their new roles and follow a future
positive path, they may remain confused about their identity. Resolving conflicts during adolescence,
according to Erickson, assists adolescents to become who they would be, unique individual,
progressing further into higher developmental stages. Erickson noted that for adolescents to become
autonomous, their self concept and self esteem

  • 2. Four Freedoms In The Four Freedoms speech, President Roosevelt describes the historical context in which the U.S. finds itself one year before the attack on Pearl Harbor, but describing that context is not the point of his speech. His point is to promote the four freedoms but he does not actually get to outlining the four freedoms until the very end of the speech. Consider his speech in connection with the Our Freedoms and Rights document and the information provided as historical background. Why does Roosevelt believe it is necessary to articulate a new set of American freedoms? • 4. Feminism, And Existentialist Feminism When the word mother comes to mind, most people feel a sense of comfort and imagine a person who is giving, caring, and dependable. These may sounds like worthy qualities at first, but together they form a major source of oppression for any caregiving figure, and different feminist theories such as care focused feminism, psychoanalytic feminism, and existentialist feminism all have something to say about it. Motherhood is certainly a necessary role in a family and even in society, but the social construction around this role has led to many different ideas about the way mothers and caregivers are treated versus how they should be treated. Motherhood is a source of oppression for women and in a patriarchal sex/gender system, it can be solved using a combination of educating children to how to be caring, using a dual parenting method of care giving and trying to get women out of the home into the work force. I will start by looking at motherhood through a care focused feminist lens. Care focused feminist theory uses a psycho moral viewpoint to describe the ways boys and girls grow up differently, and thus, experience the world in different ways. Carol Gilligan, a moral psychologist, describes male development of moral reasoning as just, fair, and righteous, contrary to female development, which stresses the wants and needs of other people (Tong 152). With this foundation we can see that these experiences not only shape the way people think and reason, but also how they ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Causes Of Social Loafing Social loafing is defined as the tendency of individuals to put forth less effort when they are part of a group. Since all of the members in the group are contributing to reach the same goal, each member will contribute less than if they were working individually. This concept is a huge issue when people work in groups. Almost everyone has experienced social loafing at some point in their life, although they may not realize it. There are several hypothesizes causes for social loafing, as well as several ways to reduce it. The term social loafing was first introduced in 1913 by a researcher named Ringelmann, who conducted a study. His study involved individuals pulling on a rope, both in a group and individually. He found that the output was less when people pulled the rope in a group than when they pulled it individually. The results of this study were replicated in 1974 by Ingham, Levinger, Graves, and Peckham. After the study was replicated, the term social loafing was developed. Since this experiment showed that social loafing applies to physical tasks, it was questioned if it then applied to cognitive tasks as well. Petty, Harkings, Williams, and Latane (1977) conducted an experiment to see if cognitive tasks were prone to social loafing as well. In their experiment, they divided participants into three groups. In one group, students were asked to edit a poem, and this group was under the assumption that they were the only ones responsible for the task. Group two ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Racial Hygiene And The Victims Of Medical Experiments Each year, about 2.7 million shelter animals are euthanized, simply because they have nowhere to call home . We humans seem to think we can determine which lives are worthy, or unworthy, of life. Similarly, Hitler believed he had the right to determine which lives were worthy of living. During the Holocaust, it is estimated that about 6 million Jews were euthanized because he deemed them as undeserving of life. Included within that estimation are the victims of medical experiments, which physicians imposed on them without consent. People in positions of power determined who were worthy of continuing to live, with what we now consider basic human rights, and those unworthy were euthanized or used in medical experimentation. By simply understanding the expansive amount of pain and suffering these unworthy individuals went through, you will understand why it is imperative that we teach this dark point in human history and make sure it is never repeated. In the early twentieth century, a popular idea known as racial hygiene played a prominent role in creating a division between races. The German government created a set of policies that dictated which individuals were worthy and unworthy of reproducing, in the hopes of obtaining more desirable qualities, based on these ideas. In 1933, the German government started a series of forced sterilizations, without consent. Robert Jay Lifton writes that a group of individuals deemed hereditarily sick were the main targets. ... • 7. How The Film Industry Has A Huge Budget For The City Over... PART 2 CIRCULAR ECONOMY Nowadays people know the price of everything and the value of nothing Oscar Wilde, 1890 Again, my concern started with a personal experience. In 2014, I was working as an Experience Designer for Universal Pictures NBC International Ltd. . The film industry has a huge budget to spend on the building of visual artefacts. However, I was quite shocked by the squandering of resources I witnessed. There was no care or awareness of sustainability. Also, I expected designers and production to work much more closely together, which would have prevented much waste in the first place. Yet, the film industry being as hierarchical as it is, production never got back to me. According to the London Data store, London is already the third busiest city in filmmaking in the world, behind LA and New York. This booming industry has brought £770m of investment to the city over the last four years. 8. London Datastore greater London authority (2015), [accessed 6 May 2016]. I have always been fascinated by transforming materials into something magical. Yet most of the time my task was to transform the very cheapest materials into a luxuriously looking illusion. Obviously as a designer one aims to make the best of available resources in the most efficient way. But ever working quicker and faster and thus taking a toll on quality, made me feel uncomfortable. • 8. Student Athletes For The University Of Ohio Secondly, for student athletes who practice a sport and attend classes, it is often difficult to complete both tasks. Many students begin to show less motivation making it harder to stay focus and attend their required classes. This is the case of student athlete Cardale Jones, a quarterback for the University of Ohio. After taking his sociology final exam, he commented that coming to class was pointless when his only responsibility was to play football for the university (Tracy 1). Student athletes start to show poor academic achievement when they consume a lot of time in their sports and often forget about their role of being a student. For instance, when students are not able to complete their school assignments during the day they decide to study late and do not sleep the necessary hours they need in order for their bodies to function and their brains to focus. In this case, the poor achievement in students is notable because they do not perform well in school and do not have a good nutrition. They often do not have time to eat the required three meals a day that their bodies need. The poor academic achievement is often noticeable when many coaches begin to tell their athletes that they are not allowed to take classes that interfere with practice. This puts athletes in a barrier when they have to balance the two roles of responsibility of attending class and completing homework assignments and attending the games. Student athletes have a poor mental and physical body ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. Amphora Research Paper I chose the amphora from the Museum of Classical Archaeology that has a Roman date. During the Bronze Age was when the Greco Roman word, amphora, developed in ancient Greek. An amphora is a large vessel used for storage and transport in pre modern times. Amphorae (plural) were used in large numbers for the transport and storage of various products, usually wine, but it was used for both liquid and dry products. This amphora was also used for the typical purposes of storage and transport, but I believe it was used on a ship. It was obviously found sunk in the sea, as it has lime incrustations and remains of shells that cling to the surface and so, therefore, it was used on a ship. The base aided transport by ship, and the amphorae were stored upright or on their sides in layers. If it was upright, they were most likely held by a rack or ropes passed through their handles to prevent shifting during rough seas. Amphorae often indicate the age of a shipwreck and the geographic origin of the cargo so they benefit maritime archaeologist who are exploring shipwrecks. Amphorae are usually ceramic, but they have been found made of metals and other materials. This amphora seems to be ceramic, but it s hard to know with the shells and lime around it from being in the sea. Roman amphorae were ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Therefore, this amphora must have been from sometime before the 7th century. Amphorae varied in height as the largest stands as tall as 1.5 meters while some were fewer than 30 centimeters high. Not only that, but routine family meals and quality time is often impossible to fit in, especially when there is more than one in the family that has homework. Ponte mentions, some argue that homework teaches kids responsibility and organizational skills valuable for success (Ponte). In actuality, however, the only thing homework really tests students on is how good they are at organizing their time by sacrificing what they need to allow time for schoolwork. From the first point of view it seems that the first method is more preferable than the second one, it is difficult and consuming in implementation. The following graph shows a model obtained from the following security: a bond issued by Deutsche Bank that was taken from Bloomberg on the 23d of July. The swap curve was used in the following graphs as a proxy for the default free curve for a constant hazard rate model. There are benefits in offshore oil drilling such as jobs, domestic fuel, and environmental benefits. Those that argue the U.S. should expand the offshore oil drilling believe that the benefits drilling brings will help the U.S. out of its foreign oil dependency. Although the side effects are have big impacts just like the benefits. The side effects include environmental risks, oil dependency, and whether or not there is enough oil. Offshore oil drilling is a subject not many know about, there is a lot of research that still needs to be done and a lot of research that still does not give positive conclusions. All in all I believe Energy Efficiency is the best solution to offshore drilling an example would be using electric cars, using solar, and wind power for electricity, and changing how we obtain energy altogether. • 19. Creating Opportunities For Students Proficiency ... I understand the need to create opportunities for my students to show their proficiency in directing their own learning and have done so within my classroom environment. I am aware that as the Learning Manager this requires me to have a clear understanding of each student s strengths, needs, and interests. This is needed in order to create a diverse and relevant classroom experience that revolves around the curriculum. Please see my examples of such opportunities below: EXAMPLE 1 During diagnostic testing of a particular year 8 class the reading and spelling levels of certain students were well below average. These results were amplified when it was obvious that the attendance within the class was sporadic and behaviour unruly. These combined, led to a poor attitude towards classroom participation and assessment tasks. The action displayed below was created after my EPL 3 placement when it became evident that the classroom needed consistent routine and positive reinforcement in order to encourage student participation. The required action manifested in the form of motivating student interest, learning and differentiation in the classroom. The Year 8 students needed a form of routine within the class and a point of interest which would be renewed systematically throughout the term. Thus, the rules and expectations chart was created in tandem with the students, in order for the students to take ownership of their behavior and attitudes within the classroom. In ... If the U.S. was concerned about the cost of paid parental leave, it only has to look to it s neighbors to the north for some ideas. In the state of Québec in Canada, the government has a plan called the QPIP, or Québec Parental Insurance Plan (2). QPIP is specifically designed for the father as the mother is provided for by other means. It is, as the name states, effectively an insurance plan that gets paid into by the father, if eligible, to help provide for paid leave at the time of birth. One distinction made clear in this model though, is that the benefits are for the biological father, which could be different from the male adult who will be bringing up the child. It has been argued that maternity leave is not only harmful to business but also to women themselves, and that it can be a burden on businesses so they may think twice about employing women. (7) Where leave is given, whether paid or unpaid, businesses have to fill the position vacated by the parents and this in itself creates additional work and cost for employers who have to pay for job advertisements, background checks and time for interviews.
