Puritanical Deception (1000) Emigrating from the Old World to purify the Church of England, the
Puritan society was one of very strict religious beliefs. Believing in living plainly, the Puritans
denounced those who went against their ways. They even excoriated fellow members of their
community if a sin was bound to ones name. One sin in particular, adultery, was seen as a
contravention to the covenant that the Puritans had established with God. Church leaders believed
that unless the sinners were chastised, God would punish the whole community for a sin of such a
magnitude. Despite having a sought out system of punishment for sinners, the tougher task for
these leaders was to figure out who in fact was a sinner, as some did not confess. Those who did
not confess or who had not been caught would behave hypocritically in order to preserve their
reputation and avoid punishment. In both Nathaniel Hawthorne s The Scarlet Letter and Arthur
Miller s The Crucible, the repercussions of committing adultery are exhibited through characters in
two different puritanical societies. Arthur Dimmesdale, Hester Prynne, John Proctor, and Abigail
Williams are all victims to this. Despite living in sincere societies, these characters behave
hypocritically in order to hide a concealed truth, resulting in internal ignominy, until they ultimately

The Novel The Handmaid s Tale
The effect of words, powerless and innocent as they are, depending on the one who combines
them can have good and evil outcomes. In the hands of Margaret Atwood, she used her
knowledge and different interpretation of words in her dystopian novel The Handmaid s Tale
in a very indirect and devious way making her novel a treasure hunt in search of these key words
for the understanding of the novel. The novel takes place in Gilead, a very dark future of the
United States, governed by a theocratic government which oppresses women by making them

form of expression of what they have to go through and their struggle in their daily lives. Some of
the social issues and grievances that had been brought up are issues of gun violence, police
brutality, gentrification, economic discrepancy and immigration policies. All of these social issues
and grievances are issues that affected the society, especially those living in the malnourished
neighborhoods featured in the documentary. Some of them talked about how they watched their

Solar still (distillation) is the process used to distil impure water using solar energy. The input is
muddy/brackish/saline water and we get pure water as output.
This project revolves around design and fabrication of a solar distillation apparatus, which will give
efficient distillation on a round the clock basis, and is capable of providing rural areas with pure
and healthy drinking water supply.
We will be concentrating our efforts on re designing the distillation apparatus for operation at
maximum efficiency. The distillation tank will rest on a platform made of cast iron. A
commercially available storage tank will be used for storing the saline water. This tank will then
be covered by a glass cover, on top and other suitable materials will be used as thermal shield on the
sides, to retain the heat. Reflectors will be added to supplement the incoming solar radiation. To
make this apparatus function continuously, we plan to attach a solar panel powered rechargeable
battery to an auxiliary heater which would help distil the water during night time. The sediment
accumulated as impurity can be removed by manual cleaning of the internal tank once a week

Racism In Friday Night Lights
Racism was a consistent theme throughout the entirety of Friday Night Lights (2015) and was
intertwined with many of the issues and concepts discussed here. Odessa held onto its racial
ideologies for much longer than it should have, even with Federal lawsuits against them
(Bissinger, 2015; pg. 107 Coakley, 2015; pg. 227). These beliefs were deeply held and acted
upon that they still were intact even after the desegregation of the schools. The Southside of

and on the field and included extreme play against the opposing team, drinking, drug use, fighting,

In the book Ashfall, the author Mike Mullin, presents many themes through the trials that, Alex, the
main character and supporting characters go through. When the Yellowstone super volcano erupts
and takes Alex through a trial to get to his parents. He finds a girl named Darla and together they
learn about how love, family, and survival push them through things they never thought they could
get to through on their own.

Alex shows this theme through his decisions in the book. At the beginning of the book he only
cared about himself but as he is alone for awhile and then meets Darla he seems to care more for
other people he meets, than for himself. He gives more then he gets. He gave little Katie s family
food and was there for them when she died. Darla started making decisions like an adult even when
her mother was alive. She made food and harvested corn. Darla grew up quickly when they were
still on the farm. Alex and Darla grew up when they were with one another. They cared for
eachother almost as if they were married. They cooked and traveled well and didn t let little things
bother them. Also after Alex killed multiple people he almost became not as soft as he was. He
grew up a lot through killing multiple people, after this he seemed not as afraid to stand up for
himself and Darla. In Ashfall, these themes were represented through the characters words and
actions. Alex, Darla, and other characters showed that love, family, and survival conquer everything
