must make the distinction between convincing and persuading. In my opinion, Bogard aims to
persuade push for action via emotional appeals his readers of the growing dangers of light
pollution as opposed to natural darkness. After he presents his main argument, Bogard also sets
forth some solutions to the problems to convince the reader that there is still hope. Bogard s

In The Sound and the Fury by William Faulkner the representation of populations with inter family
conflict is expressed through the differing character explanations in their designated sections. The
novel provides an insight to the mind and memory comprehension of different mental capacities;
however, how and why is a social group represented in a particular way? The Sound and the Fury is
divided into four specific sections that are devoted to the minds of four different characters,
specifically Benjamin, Quentin, Jason, and the unknown chapter. The first chapter is Benjamin s

Benjamin s different mindset to provide the reader with an accurate thought pattern. This constant

Africa. Slowly overtime slaves were being born in the United States instead of solely being

born slaves and African born slaves on plantations. Eventually, there was a division between the
two groups of slaves in the Southern part of the United States. The division was caused as the

to the white culture, they began to look upon the African slaves with contempt, found their
African traditions barbarous, and the wants of the two groups of slaves began to look very
different. The first reason for the division between the creole and saltwater slaves is the view the
creole slaves had on the saltwater slaves. The creole slaves viewed the African slaves with
contempt and fear . Charles Lyell and Newbell Puckett wrote that the American slaves looked upon
the African slaves with the same contempt that the whites looked with upon all negroes . This
