Reconstruction Process Of Reconstruction
After the Civil War, the South was in ruins and America was on the road to Reconstruction. America
was now faced with the challenges of overcoming Southern resentment, restoring the Union, and
determining the meaning of black freedom. The process of reconstruction would be complicated and
complex and would involve readmitting the Southern states that had seceded from the Union;
physically reconstructing the South; and integrating the freedmen into America s society. Various
plans for Reconstruction were involved: Lincoln s ten percent plan, the Wade Davis Bill, Johnson s
Reconstruction Plan, and the Congressional Reconstruction Plan. Although the blacks gained their
freedom after the war, their lives did not change drastically. The Reconstruction Era had brought upon
change to the southern states as freedmen were able to work for themselves and had the ability to have
their own families, but that does not mean that they were equal to the whites. The Thirteenth
Amendment that was passed under Lincoln s presidency formally abolished slavery and involuntary
servitude but when his presidency was passed on to Andrew Johnson, the freedmen did not have as
many rights. He did not pay any mind to the newly freed blacks in the South and in turn, the Southern
states were able to pass the black codes which restricted the freedmen s rights. This placed the blacks
under a strict law and although they were not slaves anymore, they were living in fear. It wasn t until

Susan B Anthony Accomplishments
Susan B. Anthony, an American women s rights activist is one of the most famous women in
American History. Susan B. Anthony was born on February 15, 1820 in Adams, Massachusetts and
passed away March 13, 1906 due to pneumonia and heart failure. She had 8 brothers and sisters.
When her family moved to Battenville, New York, she became homeschooled. She is most famous for
her prominent role in the women s suffrage movement pushing the 19th Amendment that gave women
the right to vote, but she has numerous additional accomplishments including: founding the National
Woman s Suffrage Association (NWSA) in 1869, the International Council of Women in 1888, and the
International Woman Suffrage Council in 1904, publishing The Revolution , wrote the Susan B.
Anthony Amendment in 1878, which became the 19th Amendment to give women the right to vote,
first person to be arrested for illegally voting in a presidential and put on trial for voting, campaigning
for women to learn self reliance and self confidence, the first women to appear on a U.S. coin.

life insurance policy to raise the funding. Jimmy Carter signed the Susan B. Anthony Dollar Coin Act
which replaced the existing image on the dollar coin to Anthony. She was the first women to be on the
face of a coin. Her most well known accomplishment was arguing to get women the right to vote.
Anthony did this by founding the National Women s Suffrage Association in

The Economic Crisis Of 2008-2009
The recent economic crisis of 2008 2009 that started in United States of America rapidly spread
around the world due to the integration of the financial markets and the simplicity for investors to
move throughout such markets. Therefore, countries had to deal with the economic effects of said
crisis from a macroeconomic and regulatory perspective .
From a regulatory perspective, governments realized the importance of the Prudential Banking
Regulation and Supervision (PBRS) as a mechanism to control financial institutions and protect
customers. However, in pursuing that purpose, regulators in the European Union (EU) and in the
United States of America (USA or US) omitted a key aspect of the PBRS: incentives for the financial
institutions ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It was always a win win situation .
However, in 2008 the real estate bubble busted. The house market deflated and the prices of houses
decreased sharply. Homeowners could no longer sell their houses at a higher price and creditors
cannot longer receive a substantial payment for their mortgages. Banks will have now to manage
lawyers, judicial process, and costs associated with the foreclosure.
To make things more complicated, many of these loans (known as subprime loans ) were sold to
financial institutions. These financial institutions packaged several of these mortgages as a
collateralized debt obligations (CDOs) and sold them to investors. The result, mortgages of all types
from homeowners in the US were spread among investors all over the world.
At the same time, CDOs turned to be a terrible investment for investors, so financial institutions could
no longer sell packages of CDOs or at least repackage them: Why? Because of the sheer scale of the
housing bubble. Nationally, housing was probably overvalued by more than 50 percent by the summer
of 2006, which meant that to eliminate the overvaluation, prices would have to fall by a third . Then,
investors started or at least threatened to start withdrawing their funds from the financial institutions,
so financial institutions were force to liquidate their assets, generating a deleveraging process and a
massive bank run.
Furthermore, the general

do not need any type of license to do this type of work. What exactly is JUDICIAL JUDGMENT
RECOVERY? First let s call it JJR for short. Then let s break it down one word at a time. 2
A) JUDICIAL means (in this case) a legal court of law . B) JUDGMENT means the determination
of the court , a legal obligation as determined by the judge. C) RECOVERY means the act of
becoming lost). If you know what a court order is then you already have a good idea. A court order is
pretty much a judicial judgment in that they both mean, in essence, As Ordered By The Court . So
what does it mean to us? It means that when one person (the plaintiff), sues another person (the
defendant), in small claims court, and wins, it s because the court ordered the defendant, now known
as the judgment debtor, to pay the plaintiff, usually, a said dollar amount. So now the plaintiff is
awarded a piece of paper proclaiming them a judgment winner. But are they really the winner? The
easy part was winning the case. Now comes the difficult part, and that is getting the judgment debtor
to actually pay up. You see, the court cannot collect the money for the judgment winners. It is actually
up to the judgment winners to collect their own judgments. But with no pressure to

Live in Myths
This excerpt from Live in Myths, written by Ellen Goodman is a fabulous example of all the different
kinds of relationships and their participants who have an excellent sustainability to spend their lives
living their own myths. A very evident character that the author uses to bring out the true meaning of
this piece is her friend. Her friend is continuously apologizing for her husbands unapologetic behavior,
saying, He is not really like that, when he most definitely has been this way since the time they first
started dating. The woman uses the word cranky is order to describe her husband and his actions. But
the author uses more serious and much heavier words like, erratic outbursts of anger , which helps us
understand the nature of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
All these unanswered questions bring out a lot of possibilities because it is not everyday that we see
someone like the woman. It must be so difficult for her to be living with her myth as well as her man .
Here the author personifies her myth as if it is another person altogether with different personalities. In
this excerpt the myth is usually what the person actually wants. Therefore they believe the opposite
person is like that in order to save him or herself of getting disappointed over and over again. I know
of a couple where a woman believes that her husband never cheats on her. After finding text messages
and e mails from the other woman, she yet prefers to believe that her husband could never do such a
thing. She is yet living with the man, though the man has made it very clear that he is not in love with
her anymore and would want her to move out. But she refuses. She believes she could make him fall
in love with her all over again and then things would get better. It makes me sad every time my mother
and I go to meet her. Her hope for the future gives me the strength to endure all the difficulties in my
life the way she did. But at the same time it baffles me how she could be so blind to her husband s
character and yet believe that she could bring about a change in a man who doesn t even love her

Christian Apologetics Summary
In Christian Apologetics: A Comprehensive Case for Biblical Faith Appendix 1 Dr. Groothuis presents
a defense of the fairness of hell. He explains that, in our pluralistic and relativistic society, hell seems
to be a repugnant and offensive doctrine, even when presented biblically and faithfully. Jesus taught
the doctrine in multiple occasions, and given the evidence for the resurrection, his warnings should be
taken seriously if the resurrection is true, then Jesus was Divine and what he says is authoritative. In
spite of this, many Christians avoid the subject of hell altogether and secularists ironically condemn it;
however Dr. Groothuis raises a solid case for the reality of it with numerous quotes from Jesus. This is
a wise strategy since even ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Groothuis about hell. He correctly states that that our eternal destiny depends on our response to God.
However, I believe a point that should have been strengthened is this: twice in the chapter, Dr.
Groothuis affirms that the unredeemed go to hell because they failed to respond rightly (7088) and
that eternal punishment awaits those who reject Christ. While this is technically correct and Biblical,
the deepest point and reason for the existence of hell is the incorrigible depravity of humanity. People
don t end up in hell because they confused Christ s purpose and rejected him, or because of meager
sins against a Holy God. Humanity is morally bankrupt and devoid of goodness as thousands of years
of death, genocide and rape attest to that. It is extremely difficult to convince helpless sinners that they
need forgiveness if sin is just a liturgical term used in Sunday school. Dr. Groothuis has already
explained that hell is inseparable from sin, God s holiness, and the cross , but the idea that deeply
depraved human beings are already damned and deserving of separation from God lest they repent
trough faith in Christ is not very clear from the

The Mistakes Of Hester Prynne And Monica Lewinsky
Public humiliation has changed immensely weighing heavily on the creation of the internet
introducing the idea of online cyberbullying as opposed to scaffolding in a town square. As modern
society revels in putting people on a public pedestal, the scaffold that Hester Prynne is put onto marks
her as no longer a person with feelings, just as a negative figure people look upon to make themselves
feel higher. After the news broke of Monica Lewinsky s scandal, people no longer recognized her as a
young adult who makes mistakes, but was treated like a person with no emotions and incapable of
being affected by her mistakes. As the story went on throughout the internet, she was only represented
as a person through the mistake she made just as Hester Prynne was recognized for the crime she
committed. Publicly shaming Hester Prynne and Monica Lewinsky is and was a way for people to
make themselves feel better and place themselves higher in society. ... Show more content on

For example, teenagers do not understand the affect a small text during driving can have until the car
crashes or someone gets hurt or even dies. Because most perpetrators did not know Monica Lewinsky
or did not know Hester Prynne personally, it becomes less of an issue being that one is just adding
onto the public opinion or conversation. Unfortunately, in modern society, there is not a way to stop
the public shaming or cyberbullying, but for a person to experience the pain or just have sympathy
towards the person can help understand the effect of being put onto a scaffold and the consequences of
dehumanizing a

Teaching 1st Grade Students How to Count Rationally to 15...
Teaching 1st Grade Students How to Count Rationally to 15
This essay will explore how I would teach a group of 10 first grade students to count rationally to 15
assuming that all of them are already able to count rationally to 10. I shall explain how I would ensure
that students understand each of the four rational counting principles of one to one correspondence,
the stable order rule, the order irrelevance rule, and the cardinality rule. I shall present an assessment I
would use to evaluate student mastery of rational counting to 15. Finally, I shall discuss how I would
adapt my instruction to accommodate English Language Learners (ELL) and students with learning
exceptionalities.

I shall repeat this several times until I formatively assess students are transitioning smoothly from one
new number word to the next without hesitation.
5) I shall then instruct students to chorally say the numbers in sequence without me modeling as I
point to them in stable order.
6) The final step in establishing the Stable Order Rule will be to repeat each step of this process
starting from the number 1 all the way to 15.
One to One Correspondence would be the next counting principle I would address in the following
manner:
1) I would place 15 dotes on the white board in an evenly spaced horizontal pattern.
2) I would explain to students that it is important to count each dot only once and by touching,
marking, or moving an item as it is being counted will help the person counting not miss an item or
count the same item twice by establishing one to one correspondence.
3) I would verbally model count the dots from left to right pointing to and touching each one as I said
it following the stable order rule.
7) I would then ask students to repeat after me as I slowly count and say each one from one all the
way to 15. This process will be repeated several times until I formatively assess all 10 students are
confidently restating each number name including the new ones.
8) I would then have students count chorally without my modeling as I point to each dot along the line
from left to right in order from the 1st to the 15th. I shall repeat

Child Custody Analysis
In child custody cases, the legal field approves the methods used by psychologists, yet argues that
psychologists must understand that lawyers are trained to work in an adversarial system in which their
role is to advocate the client s best interests (Lee, Beauregard, Hunsley, 1998, p.118). With that being
said, lawyers in child custody cases are supportive and even encourage psychological involvement in
the determination of the child s best interests, yet also argue that it is essential for them to have some
knowledge of family law. The main purpose of a lawyer is to defend his client regarding of what
psychologists have to say. However, they still have a word about the methods used in custody
evaluation (Lee et al., 1998, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In order to determine if an expert testimony is accepted in court, the judge refers to the Daubert
criteria, which is constituted of four criteria that determine if an evidence is reliable (Pozzulo, Bennell,

do not follow any ethical guidance. He states that psychologist should conduct a neutral child
evaluation and that they have to do it right or don t do it at all (Ackerman, 2010, p.

Alex Williams Argument Analysis
A strong written argument is supported by several methods that are used to legitimize the author s
position as well as to discredit any counterargument brought forth. The techniques include introducing
a counterargument and weakening it s position with evidence. Providing legitimate academic research
such as statistics as well as anecdotes from scholars on the given subject can reinforce the author s
argument. Another important method used is requiring the reader to critically think about a subject
brought forth by challenging their preconceived ideas about a topic. This may also include using
hidden assumptions that use implicit statements which have a certain opinion such as If I follow the
rules, good things will happen , this is common ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The syntax that he uses may be more informal instead of formal academic language. He also uses
good organizational structure to support his argument. He frequently initiates a new idea with a hook
to get the readers attention or a transitionary phrases to segway into new ideas which makes the
reading flow well. Then the idea is supported by either an anecdote from people or scholars that were
interviewed or a statistic. This helps make his reasoning come across as persuasive and maybe bring
resemblance to the readers own experiences that they can relate

The, The Fire, And The Rope
By far Dana showed the most relevance to the novel. She impacted on Rufus s decisions and made
him think for himself. Dana is an African American woman in her late 20 s teleporting back in time
during the antebellum to her old ancestors, which later she discovers about, and also is considered a
slave. Dana has connected to every character throughout the novel. Rufus, Sarah, Alice and many
more. Throughout her journey to Maryland during the 1700 s and 1800 s she learned many things, like
believing only in herself. To begin with, Rufus s life depended on Dana, since she was the only one
who knew how to help him every time he got into a problem. The novel s chapters correlate with
every situation Rufus got into; the river, the fire, the fall, the fight, the storm, and the rope. The reason
Dana saves Rufus s life is because later on she discovers that he is her great, great ancestor whom she
had to save, to save herself. This shows the relevance of her presence there, not only she cared for
Rufus, but also considered herself as the one who supposed to help him. Another example that shows
Dana s relevance in the novel is by helping other slaves. For example, Alice, after the fight between
Isaac and Rufus because of Rufus s attempt to rape Alice who apparently was Isaac s wife. The reason
this shows her relevance to the novel because once again, she saves Rufus from being killed by Isaac
after her try to convince them to run and Rufus will let them escape without telling

Self Deprivation In Sylvia Plath s The Bell Jar
Self Deprivation Women all over the world must follow society s expectations. In fact, in Saudi
Arabia, women could not drive until late September of this year! Similarly, in Sylvia Plath s The Bell
Jar, societal pressures push, the protagonist, Esther Greenwood to act in a particular way. Esther grows
up in a small town and goes to New York for an internship for journalism. Through this opportunity
she learns that she must act like an ideal woman of the time. Yet, she enjoys things that are out of the
normality. This causes her to lose who she is and who she wants to become. In The Bell Jar, Plath
reveals that strict women s standards may cause a loss of self. In the novel, women are upheld to a
typical standard of how to act in public. For example, in the past and even in the twenty first century
all over the world; women must dress a certain way. Using imagery Sylvia Plath describes how
women have to look and act in society. Women ...had to wear hats and stockings and gloves to class
(Plath 4). The author continues to say that the ladies who were out of school got jobs as secretaries.
These secretaries are wandering around New York looking to marry to a man with money. The author
illustrates how women have to dress and act a specific way which Esther did not conform with. She
wanted to be a successful writer with or without a husband. The strict standards women obliged to
leads to Esther losing her true identity.
Society pressures women to act in a specific way.

Unless a teacher is granted permission to teach students for a certain period, an evaluation cannot be

pursing many opportunities to avoid this type of situations. In this report, the data on the teachers from
1991 2014 will be interpreted based on: types of certificates, years of experience, age, volume of
workload, and amount of salaries. Thus, this analysis might help solve this question: What is the most

A comparison between the Italian and German Opera;...
The Italian opera and the German opera are two different fields that both share characteristics, some of
which are paralleled, and some of which contrast. Specifically, Giuseppe Verdi and Richard Wagner
use motifs such as: redemption through love, patriotism, and sacrifice which run throughout both of
their operas. The theme of betrayal also seems to be echoed throughout both operas; yet they are each
used to project a different response. The significance of this comparison demonstrates that Verdi and
Wagner may allude to the same references, such as Victor Hugo, Shakespeare, and Byron, but the
operas The Flying Dutchman (German opera) and that of Nabucco (Italian opera) are completely
different in context, and musical style; perhaps even ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He then asks God for forgiveness and promises to rebuild the temple in Jerusalem, and to follow the
true faith. He and his loyal soldiers decide to punish the traitors and rescue Fenena. The Jews and
Fenena are prepared for death on the sacrificial altar of Baal. Nabucco rushes in with his sword and
the Idol of Baal shatters into pieces. Nabucco tells the Jews they are free. Abigaille enters. She
poisoned herself. She asks for forgiveness of Fenena, says she s sorry and dies. Zaccaria (the priest)
hails Nabucco as the servant of God and the King of Kings. After Nabucco, Verdi based his operas on
more standard romantic sources by Victor Hugo, Shakespeare, and Lord Byron.
Orchestrally, it is scored for strings, timpani, bass drum, cymbals, two flutes, one piccolo, two oboes,
one English horn, two clarinets, two bassoons, four French horns, two trumpets, three trombones, two
harps, and one cimbasso. Musically, this opera is very directly vigorous. It sticks to the widely used
concepts of arias, duets, finales, and choruses. His fine music often excused the glaring faults in
character and plot lines.
Contextually, there are themes of love, betrayal, and patriotism represented. We see love through Kind
Nabucco s love for his daughter Fenena, and his constant want to help and protect her. It is almost
through this love that he is redeemed, and made whole again. We also see the love between Ismaele
and Fenena as pure and genuine. Although this opera is not

Stage five is represented by a deepening of the stage four symptoms along with extreme fatigue

heart pounding and panic caused by release of adrenaline. There is often gasping for breath, trembling,
shivering, sweating, numb and tingling hands and feet, and sheer exhaustion. The symptoms of stress
are frequently conflicting and confusing. #8220;The stress disorder is essentially a step by step

work (Schor, 1991, p. 11). There has been a dramatic increase in the number of stress related illnesses,
particularly among women. Jobs have been a major contributing factor to this stress. Only one forth of

Growth Curve of Serratia marcescens
Experiment 9: Growth curve of Serratia marcescens
Abstract
Bacteria grows by binary fission. The aim of this experiment is to follow the growth of Serratia
marcescens in nutrient broth at 37oCby recording the changes in turbidity (cloudiness) by measuring
the absorbance of visible light (600 nm) and also to prove that there is an increase in the cell number
and not just in mass during the growth. In the experiment we measure the full growth curve of Serratia
marcescens by measuring the absorbance at 600nm at every 10 mins. I also determined the viable
count at the start and the end of the exponential phase of growth. Using the growth curve I calculated
the growth curve and it was 1.2. Using this I found the doubling time which was 34s. ... Show more

(Note, if counting by turbidimetric measurements or microscopic counts, the death phase cannot be
observed.). During the death phase, the number of viable cells decreases geometrically
(exponentially), essentially the reverse of growth during the log phase.
During the lag phase there is no increase in cell numbers, although the bacteria are synthesizing
enzymes present in their environment in preparation for the exponential phase. During the exponential
or logarithmic phase, the bacterial population grows at a rate that doubles the population during the
generation time. The stationary phase incurs neither an increase nor a decrease in the cell population.
The population growth cannot continue at the exponential rate since the nutrient supplies have been
depleted and waste products have accumulated. The final phase of the bacterial population growth
curve is the death phase, during which more cells die than are replaced by new cells.
The aim of this experiment is to follow the growth of Serratia marcescens in nutrient broth at 37oCby
recording the changes in turbidity (cloudiness) by measuring the absorbance of visible light (600 nm)
and also to prove that there is an increase in the cell number and not just in mass during the growth.

A Free Man By Thomas Jefferson And Sally Hemings
Imagine living a life in slavery, where you have a limited freedom and society constantly looks down
on you. If you had the opportunity to be a free man, would you take it or would you come running
back to becoming a slave? Two of Thomas Jefferson s slaves, James Hemings and Sally Hemings had
to make this decision in 1789. James and Sally are part of a family that held various high positions at
Monticello, Jefferson s plantation. Martha Jefferson, Jefferson s wife, was step siblings with James
and Sally. When Jefferson was called to be the U.S. minister in France, he called upon James to come
with him to serve as his servant. Two years later, Sally followed accompanying Jefferson s youngest
daughter, Polly to France. While in France, James and Sally were considered free due to the Freedom
Principle. This states that any slave who sets foot in France is now considered a free man. Jefferson
chose James specifically to come with him to France because he knew that James wanted to be chef
and France was the perfect place to enhance his culinary skills. Not only did Jefferson pay for James
training but he also gave James a salary that was more than the average salary of anyone in his
profession. There are those who believe that James loyalty to Jefferson was a valid reason to stay;
however, I believe James unwisely chose to leave behind the booming city of Paris and his personal
freedom. This paper will explore the factors that James considered to make his decision. First, I

29 July 2015
They say the world is a book and those who are not fond of travelling read only a page. Everybody
will agree that life without books is really boring, colourless and monotonous. It s a book that not only
can open you a secret world of imagination but also can change your reality into a better one.
The Thorn Birds by Colleen McCullough I believe is exactly that kind of a book. I m a book lover but
every time I walk into a bookstore I m completely confused about what book to buy. The same
situation happened with The Thorn Birds. I had no idea what I wanted to buy, so I was just turning the
pages of some book by chance. The salesman s eyes sparkled with admiration when he found me with
that book.

Pros And Cons Of Hiit
4. I just bought the Insanity Workout DVD. Is it any good? A. Workouts like Insanity ... ....are
examples of High Intensity Interval Training [HIIT]. It therefore makes more sense to talk about HIIT.
B. So What exactly is HIIT? HIIT are exercise routines consisting short bursts of intense activity
lasting usu. 30 seconds, followed by low intensity activity lasting around 45 60 seconds. HIIT should
not really last longer than 15 minutes on average. [This excludes warming up, stretching, cooling
down, etc] C. So What exactly are the Pros and Cons of HIIT? Advantages of HIIT ‣ You get up to
50% more fat loss than you do doing traditional cardio [eg. an hour on treadmill, etc]. ‣ Improves
aerobic and anaerobic endurance. This means you can perform better in sports utilising similar

HIIT can cause injury due to the amount of pressure and stress placed on joints/tendons.. ‣ Not
suitable for beginners. This is because HIIT is very intense and, as a result, does require the individual
to have some experience with regular exercise routines. If this is not the case, injury is more probable.

I was bouncing up and down in my car seat my seat belt trying to keep a hold of me. I was so excited
to finally get to go to six flags. As we pulled up to get into the parking lot, they wind rushed through
my hair, I stuck my head out the window to get a better view of six flags. The rides going back in forth
and the people eagerly waiting in line to get in. we pulled up to a parking. The car came to a stopped,
everyone jolted forward and then back in their seats. I opened the door stepping out and letting the rest
of the people come out. The door slammed behind me and echoed through the parking lot. We made
our way getting closer and closer to the amusement park, my older cousins were walking behind me
and the young ones who were running across the street playing, my uncle screamed at them to not play
in the street.
We had finally arrived at the front of the amusement park. We all waited anxiously to get our tickets.
Finally we had reached the front of the line and we entered the park we walked past all of the stores.
We all rushed to get in line but were stopped by my uncle, who said we must have lunch before we did
anything else. So I gobbled down my food, that greased my hands and filled the plate with ketchup.
Afterwards, when everyone was done with their food, we got up but was stopped again and was
warned by our uncle to wait for our food to settle. But my ignorant self just kept running into the line.
My stomach had butterflies flying left and right. After all of

NEO COLONIALISM Neocolonialism describes how, after World War II, colonial powers started
using economics i.e. lending and interest rates, to control former colonies and cultivate new areas,
thereby creating political, economic and social dependencies. Neocolonialism describes certain
economic operations at the international level which have alleged similarities to the traditional
colonialism of the 16th to the 20th centuries. The contention is that governments have aimed to
control other nations through indirect means; that in lieu of direct military political control,
neocolonialist powers employ economic, financial, and trade policies to dominate less powerful
countries. Those who subscribe to the concept maintain this amounts to a de ... Show more content on

Upon gaining independence, some national leaders and opposition groups argued that their countries
were being subjected to a new form of colonialism, waged by the former colonial powers and other
developed nations. In Africa, the French played a prominent role in charges of conducting a
neocolonialist policy, and that French troops in Africa were (and it is argued, still are) often involved
in coups resulting in a regime acting in the interests of France but against its country s own interests.
Denunciations of neocolonialism also became popular with some national independence movements
while they were still waging anti colonial armed struggle. During the 1970s, in the Portuguese
colonies of Mozambique and Angola, for example, the rhetoric espoused by the Marxist movements
FRELIMO and MPLA (respectively), which were to eventually assume power upon those nations
independence, rejected both old colonialism and neocolonialism. NEOCOLONIALIST
ALLEGATIONS AGAINST THE IMF Those who argue that neocolonialism historically supplanted
or supplemented colonialism, point to the fact that Africa today pays more money every year (in loan
interest payments) to the IMF/WB than it receives in loans from them, thereby often

The Pros And Cons Of Irregular Warfare
The title 10 versus title 50 debate is a result of a battlefield that has evolved, and policy that has not.
The requirement for congressional oversight was emplaced in the early 80s due to accusations of
domestic spying by the CIA in an effort to protect American citizens. Now that DOD collection
methods are similar and often times indistinguishable from the intelligence community s methods,
they are crying foul because the DOD operates under title 10 authorities and does not share the same
stringent oversight.
Warfighting in today s environment often leans towards the Irregular Warfare (IW) side of the house
where Operational Preparation of the Battlefield (OPB) is required to ensure that should conventional
military forces be deployed, they

The Dispossessed by Ursula Le Guin
The Dispossessed by Ursula Le Guin is a criticism of today s capitalism by investigating what society
structure would be best for human society. Le Guin uses the two models of capitalism and
communism to be compared and contrasted against one another to determine which would function
better and how to achieve such success. In order to depict what a replacement structure would look
like; Le Guin creates two worlds to highlight the advantages and disadvantages of influence that each
of these models have not only on their society, but on Shevek, the main character. The planet of Urras
is a wealthy society, but all of this money is in the hands of the elites at the expense of those in the
lower, working class. Their power continues to be protected by state figures as they work hand in hand
adjusting society structures to benefit themselves and not every other citizen left into poverty. The
moon of Urras is Anarres which is a stateless society that is continuously stagnant and has been in
such a position for several decades. Although Anarres is described as the better world out of the two,
the subtitle of the novel An Ambiguous Utopia indicates that there are some downfalls to this
seemingly perfect society. This is a world of devastation with majority of their citizens in poverty and
forced to work in jobs that they are not suited for and ultimately hate. The working class is a necessity
for this planet to be sustained despite their bleak living conditions and weaknesses. Its

intellectuals. Southern is richly and directly tied to the Southern Baptist Convention and Mohler is a

secular community. He has appeared on every major news network and given lectures and discussions

Leadership that Matters several years ago and it has become a top book on leadership. I was very
excited to read Mohler s work and gain understanding, insight, and wisdom from one of evangelical
Christianity s most foremost minds.
Mohler s intent is clear from the outset of his work, Let me warn you right up front my goal is to
change the way you think about leadership. I do not aim merely to add one more voice to the
conversation about leadership, I want fundamentally to change the way leadership is understood and
practiced. Mohler s work is an excellent source to understand biblical leadership. Most leadership
books are very cookie cutter and mostly say the same things. I have read many leadership books and
this book was honestly a breath of fresh air. Mohler s goal is to switch around culture s

The Significance Of The ANZAC Legend
In 1914, long term tensions between European powers sparked a detrimental global conflict known as
World War 1. During this time, Australia held a strong alliance with Britain, which meant that when
Britain declared war, Australia willingly backed its mother country to the last man and the last shilling
(Fisher, 1914). The Gallipoli campaign was one of many battles, yet its effect on Australia was most
significant. The primary goal was to capture the Dardanelles, allowing supplies to be shipped to
Russian troops in Germany (Darlington et al, 2012, p.236). After the initial attempt by naval attack
failed, another attack was planned. In 1915, 78 000 ANZAC soldiers landed on the shores of Gallipoli
possessing unique qualities. Even though this campaign was considered a military failure, an inspiring
legacy was born. Through establishing these undeniable qualities of courage, sacrifice, mateship and
endurance, and comparing them to the legend, it is evident that the ANZAC legend is an accurate
portrayal of the Australian soldiers during World War 1.
This paragraph will help analyse and define the ANZAC legend which will be proven accurate by
historical evidence. The ANZAC legend was created upon the ANZACs first arrival in Gallipoli on 25
April 1915, and firmly re established in the eight months of combat. Strong characteristics of courage,
sacrifice, mateship and endurance were displayed on the battlefield, particularly during times of
hardship. These qualities that are

Fluoride And Its Effect On Our Lives
Drink 8 glasses of water a day! Everywhere you go, you see and hear this but would you if you knew
what was in it? If you knew would you still drink it? Lots of chemicals are added to get water fresh
and pure. You re told they all have health benefits. But is this true? One chemical isn t as healthy as all
the rest. It s quite harmful. This is fluoride. Fluoride shouldn t be in our waters because fluoride in
high levels can cause dental fluorosis, cavities, and decay. With fluoride in our water, toothpastes,
food and drinks, pesticides and even tea, it is easy to get more then you bodies need. During the
developing stage when you re an infant, and as you become a child, fluoride can have some series
effects that continue on as you grow older. Thus drinking the water wouldn t be a good idea but you
still have to. Along with damaging your teeth fluoride can also affect your cancer rate, your brain, and
heart disease.
For Those Wondering.
Added to toothpastes and mouth washes to help defend your teeth from cavities is fluoride. Fluoride
helps in teeth support and repairs broken surfaces. It works by forming a strong compound with other
chemicals on your teeth so that they ll be less prone to acid attack. The acid comes from the bacteria
that live on sugars we eat. Brushing and flossing your teeth will get rid of the bacteria and rinse them
away but it doesn t help in the long term. Fluoride works to form a compound that is long lasting to
keep your teeth healthy and strong.

El racismo aun prevalece en nuestra sociedad
Perfil Racial

The Continuum Of Perception, I Tend Toward Intuition
On the continuum of perception, I tend toward Intuition. There are both positives and negatives to this
preference. On the positive side, my intuition can go a long way toward perceiving the needs of others
and helping to create a positive working environment for my employees. On the negative side,
however, my preference for intuition rather than sensing the world around me plays into one of my
perceived weaknesses, which is that, since I am a fairly mild mannered and non aggressive person,
people could perceive me, in turn, as weak or someone who can be walked over. The reality is that I
have a strong personality and I work to be diplomatic in the face of adversity, which my supervisors
continually note is an area of strength. This lends itself well to my current leadership style, which is a
blend of democratic, synergistic, and servant leader. I like to put the onus of responsibility on my
employees such that they can buy into the work that they are doing. A part of this is creating a team
atmosphere, even against my own personal preferences, to make sure there is a diverse talent pool
addressing each constituency and issue. Finally, as a servant leader, it is my duty to create an
environment for my employees success that fosters their growth. As a thinking person, I have already
shared how I am data driven and strong in my analytical abilities. A threat in my field is the oftentimes
lack of data to support a project or a decision. I have taken the time to get comfortable

Essay on Analysis of Comparable Worth and the Common Good
The Federal Government has been struggling for almost four decades now to close the gap between
the wages of men and women. In the 1960 s, women were paid approximately 60 cents for every
dollar men received for their work. Although progress has been made since Congress passed the Equal
Pay Act in 1963, equality has not yet been achieved. Today, thirty six years later, women still earn
only seventy six percent of the wages of men.
Early studies found convincing evidence that women were being construed as inferior when it came to
their work. Jobs that were dominated by women were paid less than male dominated jobs, not because
they were intrinsically worth less, but because they were dominated by women (Treiman Hartmann,
1981:93; ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Jobs are judged similar, thus comparable, based on composite ratings of requirements such as skill,
effort, responsibility, or other factors valued by an organization. All in all, comparable worth is
necessary because discriminatory pay practices of the past were not fully addressed by equal
employment opportunity legislation, and thus effects have been perpetuated by conventional pay
administration practices (Taylor, 1989). Comparable worth rests on the theory that pay differentials are
caused by sex discrimination. It proposes that sexual segregation in jobs has unjustly depressed
women workers wages. According to Wittig (1989), we may look at how this segregation has
contributed to the wage gap from two viewpoints. Firstly, a significant portion of the sex pay gap has
undoubtedly been caused by job placement discrimination, which has placed women into less skilled,
less demanding jobs. Secondly, the gap may be caused by female jobs being assigned lower pay, even
when the jobs require skill equal to that in male jobs. There are several ways that this discrimination
may be sustained: 1) job segregation related to prejudice by employers, consumers, and co workers; 2)
devaluation of jobs performed primarily by women and minority men; and 3) women and minority
men s job choices, assertiveness about pay, and other group tendencies (Wittig, 1989). So, how does
one go about achieving comparable worth in their organization, you may bee wondering? First, a
method must be

  • 3. Reconstruction Process Of Reconstruction After the Civil War, the South was in ruins and America was on the road to Reconstruction. America was now faced with the challenges of overcoming Southern resentment, restoring the Union, and determining the meaning of black freedom. The process of reconstruction would be complicated and complex and would involve readmitting the Southern states that had seceded from the Union; physically reconstructing the South; and integrating the freedmen into America s society. Various plans for Reconstruction were involved: Lincoln s ten percent plan, the Wade Davis Bill, Johnson s Reconstruction Plan, and the Congressional Reconstruction Plan. Although the blacks gained their freedom after the war, their lives did not change drastically. The Reconstruction Era had brought upon change to the southern states as freedmen were able to work for themselves and had the ability to have their own families, but that does not mean that they were equal to the whites. The Thirteenth Amendment that was passed under Lincoln s presidency formally abolished slavery and involuntary servitude but when his presidency was passed on to Andrew Johnson, the freedmen did not have as many rights. He did not pay any mind to the newly freed blacks in the South and in turn, the Southern states were able to pass the black codes which restricted the freedmen s rights. This placed the blacks under a strict law and although they were not slaves anymore, they were living in fear. It wasn t until the radical ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. The Economic Crisis Of 2008-2009 The recent economic crisis of 2008 2009 that started in United States of America rapidly spread around the world due to the integration of the financial markets and the simplicity for investors to move throughout such markets. Therefore, countries had to deal with the economic effects of said crisis from a macroeconomic and regulatory perspective . From a regulatory perspective, governments realized the importance of the Prudential Banking Regulation and Supervision (PBRS) as a mechanism to control financial institutions and protect customers. However, in pursuing that purpose, regulators in the European Union (EU) and in the United States of America (USA or US) omitted a key aspect of the PBRS: incentives for the financial institutions ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It was always a win win situation . However, in 2008 the real estate bubble busted. The house market deflated and the prices of houses decreased sharply. Homeowners could no longer sell their houses at a higher price and creditors cannot longer receive a substantial payment for their mortgages. Banks will have now to manage lawyers, judicial process, and costs associated with the foreclosure. To make things more complicated, many of these loans (known as subprime loans ) were sold to financial institutions. These financial institutions packaged several of these mortgages as a collateralized debt obligations (CDOs) and sold them to investors. The result, mortgages of all types from homeowners in the US were spread among investors all over the world. At the same time, CDOs turned to be a terrible investment for investors, so financial institutions could no longer sell packages of CDOs or at least repackage them: Why? Because of the sheer scale of the housing bubble. Nationally, housing was probably overvalued by more than 50 percent by the summer of 2006, which meant that to eliminate the overvaluation, prices would have to fall by a third . Then, investors started or at least threatened to start withdrawing their funds from the financial institutions, so financial institutions were force to liquidate their assets, generating a deleveraging process and a massive bank run. You don t need to meet your clients face to face. Everything can be done by mail, fax, or email. The occasional trip to the records department in your local courthouse is your only venture outdoors. You do not need any type of license to do this type of work. What exactly is JUDICIAL JUDGMENT RECOVERY? First let s call it JJR for short. Then let s break it down one word at a time. 2 A) JUDICIAL means (in this case) a legal court of law . B) JUDGMENT means the determination of the court , a legal obligation as determined by the judge. C) RECOVERY means the act of becoming lost). If you know what a court order is then you already have a good idea. A court order is pretty much a judicial judgment in that they both mean, in essence, As Ordered By The Court . So what does it mean to us? It means that when one person (the plaintiff), sues another person (the defendant), in small claims court, and wins, it s because the court ordered the defendant, now known as the judgment debtor, to pay the plaintiff, usually, a said dollar amount. So now the plaintiff is awarded a piece of paper proclaiming them a judgment winner. But are they really the winner? The easy part was winning the case. Now comes the difficult part, and that is getting the judgment debtor to actually pay up. You see, the court cannot collect the money for the judgment winners. It is actually up to the judgment winners to collect their own judgments. But with no pressure to

  • 8. Live in Myths This excerpt from Live in Myths, written by Ellen Goodman is a fabulous example of all the different kinds of relationships and their participants who have an excellent sustainability to spend their lives living their own myths. A very evident character that the author uses to bring out the true meaning of this piece is her friend. Her friend is continuously apologizing for her husbands unapologetic behavior, saying, He is not really like that, when he most definitely has been this way since the time they first started dating. The woman uses the word cranky is order to describe her husband and his actions. All these unanswered questions bring out a lot of possibilities because it is not everyday that we see someone like the woman. It must be so difficult for her to be living with her myth as well as her man . Here the author personifies her myth as if it is another person altogether with different personalities. In this excerpt the myth is usually what the person actually wants. Therefore they believe the opposite person is like that in order to save him or herself of getting disappointed over and over again. I know of a couple where a woman believes that her husband never cheats on her. After finding text messages and e mails from the other woman, she yet prefers to believe that her husband could never do such a thing. She is yet living with the man, though the man has made it very clear that he is not in love with her anymore and would want her to move out. But she refuses. She believes she could make him fall in love with her all over again and then things would get better. It makes me sad every time my mother and I go to meet her. Her hope for the future gives me the strength to endure all the difficulties in my life the way she did. But at the same time it baffles me how she could be so blind to her husband s character and yet believe that she could bring about a change in a man who doesn t even love her ... • 9. Christian Apologetics Summary In Christian Apologetics: A Comprehensive Case for Biblical Faith Appendix 1 Dr. Groothuis presents a defense of the fairness of hell. He explains that, in our pluralistic and relativistic society, hell seems to be a repugnant and offensive doctrine, even when presented biblically and faithfully. Jesus taught the doctrine in multiple occasions, and given the evidence for the resurrection, his warnings should be taken seriously if the resurrection is true, then Jesus was Divine and what he says is authoritative. In spite of this, many Christians avoid the subject of hell altogether and secularists ironically condemn it; however Dr. Groothuis raises a solid case for the reality of it with numerous quotes from Jesus. This is a wise strategy since even ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Groothuis about hell. He correctly states that that our eternal destiny depends on our response to God. However, I believe a point that should have been strengthened is this: twice in the chapter, Dr. Groothuis affirms that the unredeemed go to hell because they failed to respond rightly (7088) and that eternal punishment awaits those who reject Christ. While this is technically correct and Biblical, the deepest point and reason for the existence of hell is the incorrigible depravity of humanity. People don t end up in hell because they confused Christ s purpose and rejected him, or because of meager sins against a Holy God. Humanity is morally bankrupt and devoid of goodness as thousands of years of death, genocide and rape attest to that. It is extremely difficult to convince helpless sinners that they need forgiveness if sin is just a liturgical term used in Sunday school. Dr. Groothuis has already explained that hell is inseparable from sin, God s holiness, and the cross , but the idea that deeply depraved human beings are already damned and deserving of separation from God lest they repent trough faith in Christ is not very clear from the ... • 10. The Mistakes Of Hester Prynne And Monica Lewinsky Public humiliation has changed immensely weighing heavily on the creation of the internet introducing the idea of online cyberbullying as opposed to scaffolding in a town square. As modern society revels in putting people on a public pedestal, the scaffold that Hester Prynne is put onto marks her as no longer a person with feelings, just as a negative figure people look upon to make themselves feel higher. After the news broke of Monica Lewinsky s scandal, people no longer recognized her as a young adult who makes mistakes, but was treated like a person with no emotions and incapable of being affected by her mistakes. As the story went on throughout the internet, she was only represented as a person through the mistake she made just as Hester Prynne was recognized for the crime she committed. Teaching 1st Grade Students How to Count Rationally to 15 This essay will explore how I would teach a group of 10 first grade students to count rationally to 15 assuming that all of them are already able to count rationally to 10. I shall explain how I would ensure that students understand each of the four rational counting principles of one to one correspondence, the stable order rule, the order irrelevance rule, and the cardinality rule. One to One Correspondence would be the next counting principle I would address in the following manner: 1) I would place 15 dotes on the white board in an evenly spaced horizontal pattern. 2) I would explain to students that it is important to count each dot only once and by touching, marking, or moving an item as it is being counted will help the person counting not miss an item or count the same item twice by establishing one to one correspondence. 3) I would verbally model count the dots from left to right pointing to and touching each one as I said it following the stable order rule. 7) I would then ask students to repeat after me as I slowly count and say each one from one all the way to 15. This process will be repeated several times until I formatively assess all 10 students are confidently restating each number name including the new ones. 8) I would then have students count chorally without my modeling as I point to each dot along the line from left to right in order from the 1st to the 15th. Child Custody Analysis In child custody cases, the legal field approves the methods used by psychologists, yet argues that psychologists must understand that lawyers are trained to work in an adversarial system in which their role is to advocate the client s best interests (Lee, Beauregard, Hunsley, 1998, p.118). With that being said, lawyers in child custody cases are supportive and even encourage psychological involvement in the determination of the child s best interests, yet also argue that it is essential for them to have some knowledge of family law. Alex Williams Argument Analysis A strong written argument is supported by several methods that are used to legitimize the author s position as well as to discredit any counterargument brought forth. The techniques include introducing a counterargument and weakening it s position with evidence. Providing legitimate academic research such as statistics as well as anecdotes from scholars on the given subject can reinforce the author s argument. Another important method used is requiring the reader to critically think about a subject brought forth by challenging their preconceived ideas about a topic. • 16. The, The Fire, And The Rope By far Dana showed the most relevance to the novel. She impacted on Rufus s decisions and made him think for himself. Dana is an African American woman in her late 20 s teleporting back in time during the antebellum to her old ancestors, which later she discovers about, and also is considered a slave. Dana has connected to every character throughout the novel. Rufus, Sarah, Alice and many more. Throughout her journey to Maryland during the 1700 s and 1800 s she learned many things, like believing only in herself. To begin with, Rufus s life depended on Dana, since she was the only one who knew how to help him every time he got into a problem. The novel s chapters correlate with every situation Rufus got into; the river, the fire, the fall, the fight, the storm, and the rope. The reason Dana saves Rufus s life is because later on she discovers that he is her great, great ancestor whom she had to save, to save herself. This shows the relevance of her presence there, not only she cared for Rufus, but also considered herself as the one who supposed to help him. Another example that shows Dana s relevance in the novel is by helping other slaves. For example, Alice, after the fight between Isaac and Rufus because of Rufus s attempt to rape Alice who apparently was Isaac s wife. The reason this shows her relevance to the novel because once again, she saves Rufus from being killed by Isaac after her try to convince them to run and Rufus will let them escape without telling ... • 17. Self Deprivation In Sylvia Plath s The Bell Jar Self Deprivation Women all over the world must follow society s expectations. In fact, in Saudi Arabia, women could not drive until late September of this year! Similarly, in Sylvia Plath s The Bell Jar, societal pressures push, the protagonist, Esther Greenwood to act in a particular way. Esther grows up in a small town and goes to New York for an internship for journalism. Through this opportunity she learns that she must act like an ideal woman of the time. Yet, she enjoys things that are out of the normality. This causes her to lose who she is and who she wants to become. In The Bell Jar, Plath reveals that strict women s standards may cause a loss of self. In the novel, women are upheld to a typical standard of how to act in public. For example, in the past and even in the twenty first century all over the world; women must dress a certain way. Using imagery Sylvia Plath describes how women have to look and act in society. Women ...had to wear hats and stockings and gloves to class (Plath 4). The author continues to say that the ladies who were out of school got jobs as secretaries. These secretaries are wandering around New York looking to marry to a man with money. The author illustrates how women have to dress and act a specific way which Esther did not conform with. She wanted to be a successful writer with or without a husband. The strict standards women obliged to leads to Esther losing her true identity. Society pressures women to act in a specific way. ... • 19. A comparison between the Italian and German Opera;... The Italian opera and the German opera are two different fields that both share characteristics, some of which are paralleled, and some of which contrast. Specifically, Giuseppe Verdi and Richard Wagner use motifs such as: redemption through love, patriotism, and sacrifice which run throughout both of their operas. The theme of betrayal also seems to be echoed throughout both operas; yet they are each used to project a different response. The significance of this comparison demonstrates that Verdi and Wagner may allude to the same references, such as Victor Hugo, Shakespeare, and Byron, but the operas The Flying Dutchman (German opera) and that of Nabucco (Italian opera) are completely different in context, and musical style; perhaps even ... He and his loyal soldiers decide to punish the traitors and rescue Fenena. The Jews and Fenena are prepared for death on the sacrificial altar of Baal. Nabucco rushes in with his sword and the Idol of Baal shatters into pieces. Nabucco tells the Jews they are free. Abigaille enters. She poisoned herself. She asks for forgiveness of Fenena, says she s sorry and dies. Zaccaria (the priest) hails Nabucco as the servant of God and the King of Kings. After Nabucco, Verdi based his operas on more standard romantic sources by Victor Hugo, Shakespeare, and Lord Byron. Orchestrally, it is scored for strings, timpani, bass drum, cymbals, two flutes, one piccolo, two oboes, one English horn, two clarinets, two bassoons, four French horns, two trumpets, three trombones, two harps, and one cimbasso. Musically, this opera is very directly vigorous. It sticks to the widely used concepts of arias, duets, finales, and choruses. His fine music often excused the glaring faults in character and plot lines. Contextually, there are themes of love, betrayal, and patriotism represented. We see love through Kind Nabucco s love for his daughter Fenena, and his constant want to help and protect her. It is almost through this love that he is redeemed, and made whole again. In the experiment we measure the full growth curve of Serratia marcescens by measuring the absorbance at 600nm at every 10 mins. During the death phase, the number of viable cells decreases geometrically (exponentially), essentially the reverse of growth during the log phase. During the lag phase there is no increase in cell numbers, although the bacteria are synthesizing enzymes present in their environment in preparation for the exponential phase. During the exponential or logarithmic phase, the bacterial population grows at a rate that doubles the population during the generation time. The stationary phase incurs neither an increase nor a decrease in the cell population. The population growth cannot continue at the exponential rate since the nutrient supplies have been depleted and waste products have accumulated. The final phase of the bacterial population growth curve is the death phase, during which more cells die than are replaced by new cells. If you had the opportunity to be a free man, would you take it or would you come running back to becoming a slave? Two of Thomas Jefferson s slaves, James Hemings and Sally Hemings had to make this decision in 1789. James and Sally are part of a family that held various high positions at Monticello, Jefferson s plantation. Martha Jefferson, Jefferson s wife, was step siblings with James and Sally. When Jefferson was called to be the U.S. minister in France, he called upon James to come with him to serve as his servant. Two years later, Sally followed accompanying Jefferson s youngest daughter, Polly to France. While in France, James and Sally were considered free due to the Freedom Principle. This states that any slave who sets foot in France is now considered a free man. Jefferson chose James specifically to come with him to France because he knew that James wanted to be chef and France was the perfect place to enhance his culinary skills. Not only did Jefferson pay for James training but he also gave James a salary that was more than the average salary of anyone in his profession. Le Guin uses the two models of capitalism and communism to be compared and contrasted against one another to determine which would function better and how to achieve such success. In order to depict what a replacement structure would look like; Le Guin creates two worlds to highlight the advantages and disadvantages of influence that each of these models have not only on their society, but on Shevek, the main character. • 34. The Significance Of The ANZAC Legend In 1914, long term tensions between European powers sparked a detrimental global conflict known as World War 1. During this time, Australia held a strong alliance with Britain, which meant that when Britain declared war, Australia willingly backed its mother country to the last man and the last shilling (Fisher, 1914). The Gallipoli campaign was one of many battles, yet its effect on Australia was most significant. The primary goal was to capture the Dardanelles, allowing supplies to be shipped to Russian troops in Germany (Darlington et al, 2012, p.236). After the initial attempt by naval attack failed, another attack was planned. In 1915, 78 000 ANZAC soldiers landed on the shores of Gallipoli possessing unique qualities. Even though this campaign was considered a military failure, an inspiring legacy was born. Through establishing these undeniable qualities of courage, sacrifice, mateship and endurance, and comparing them to the legend, it is evident that the ANZAC legend is an accurate portrayal of the Australian soldiers during World War 1. This paragraph will help analyse and define the ANZAC legend which will be proven accurate by historical evidence. On the negative side, however, my preference for intuition rather than sensing the world around me plays into one of my perceived weaknesses, which is that, since I am a fairly mild mannered and non aggressive person, people could perceive me, in turn, as weak or someone who can be walked over. The reality is that I have a strong personality and I work to be diplomatic in the face of adversity, which my supervisors continually note is an area of strength. This lends itself well to my current leadership style, which is a blend of democratic, synergistic, and servant leader. I like to put the onus of responsibility on my employees such that they can buy into the work that they are doing. A part of this is creating a team atmosphere, even against my own personal preferences, to make sure there is a diverse talent pool addressing each constituency and issue. Finally, as a servant leader, it is my duty to create an environment for my employees success that fosters their growth. As a thinking person, I have already shared how I am data driven and strong in my analytical abilities. A threat in my field is the oftentimes lack of data to support a project or a decision. I have taken the time to get comfortable ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 39. Essay on Analysis of Comparable Worth and the Common Good The Federal Government has been struggling for almost four decades now to close the gap between the wages of men and women. In the 1960 s, women were paid approximately 60 cents for every dollar men received for their work. Although progress has been made since Congress passed the Equal Pay Act in 1963, equality has not yet been achieved. Today, thirty six years later, women still earn only seventy six percent of the wages of men. Early studies found convincing evidence that women were being construed as inferior when it came to their work. Jobs that were dominated by women were paid less than male dominated jobs, not because they were intrinsically worth less, but because they were dominated by women (Treiman Hartmann, 1981:93; ... Jobs are judged similar, thus comparable, based on composite ratings of requirements such as skill, effort, responsibility, or other factors valued by an organization. All in all, comparable worth is necessary because discriminatory pay practices of the past were not fully addressed by equal employment opportunity legislation, and thus effects have been perpetuated by conventional pay administration practices (Taylor, 1989). Comparable worth rests on the theory that pay differentials are caused by sex discrimination. It proposes that sexual segregation in jobs has unjustly depressed women workers wages. According to Wittig (1989), we may look at how this segregation has contributed to the wage gap from two viewpoints. Firstly, a significant portion of the sex pay gap has undoubtedly been caused by job placement discrimination, which has placed women into less skilled, less demanding jobs. Secondly, the gap may be caused by female jobs being assigned lower pay, even when the jobs require skill equal to that in male jobs. There are several ways that this discrimination may be sustained: 1) job segregation related to prejudice by employers, consumers, and co workers; 2) devaluation of jobs performed primarily by women and minority men; and 3) women and minority men s job choices, assertiveness about pay, and other group tendencies (Wittig, 1989). So, how does one go about achieving comparable worth in their organization, you may bee wondering? First, a method must be ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
