The Bank of England and The 2008 Financial Crisis Essay
Due to the 2008 financial crisis, the Bank of England employed quantitative easing (an
unconventional monetary policy used to stimulate the economy) by cutting interest rates down to 0.5
% and has been keeping it until now. The Bank made the decision to keep QE and the interest rate
unchanged in March. Spare capacity (the ability of a firm to produce more of a product than is now
being produced) is used by the BoE to justify its use of forward guidance policy (a communicative
tool for monetary policy). Low interest rates improved the economy by increasing consumption and
investment, which are the components of AD. The AD curve shows the total spending on goods and
services in a period of time at a given price level. In constructing on AD ... Show more content on

The money supply will increase as the components of AD (C+I) rise. Figure 2 illustrates the increase
in money supply through showing the rightward shift of the MS curve, from MS1 to MS2. The money
demand will remain the same (MD). Therefore, increasing the money supply will lower the interest
rate from i1 to i2. This is partly due to the increased availability of money. More money around means
it is easier to acquire and thus command lower interest rates. However, such an increase in money
supply may also increase the inflation rate and possibly cause a hyperinflation if uncontrolled.
The main benefit of low interest rates is its stimulating effect on economy. The BoE can help start
businesses spending on goods which helps the economy in the long run and can help consumers to
spend more on durable goods. Also the consumers demand for products will increase. This will force
the firms to try to meet the demands by hiring additional workers which in turn will reduce the
unemployment rate.
A disadvantage of low interest rates is low interest rates harm savers and those who rely heavily on
interest income in the long run. Workers are influenced by lowered interest rates because the firms that
benefited from the changes in rates will hire more workers while the opposite will be true for the
negatively affected firms. Stockholders are affected because when interest rates rise, stocks tend to
fall. Suppliers

Soloman Schultz Essay
My Great great Grandfather, Soloman Schultz, was part of a huge historical event that impacted my
family and its history significantly. Along with two million Russian Jews, Soloman Schultz left Russia
to get away from anti Jewish rioters called Pogroms. In 1903 when Soloman Schultz lived in Russia,
the second wave of pogroms arose. Pogroms are most often present during periods of political crisis in
a country to escape punishments or penalties from their actions (Modern, AICE). A pogrom is an
outbreak of mass violence directed against a minority religious, ethnic, or social group (Modern,
AICE). In 1903 in Russia, there were groups made up of Christians that had organized massacres and
riots against Jews. The organization of the Pogroms was led by monarchist societies, and a group
known as the Black Hundreds was the main organizer (Modern, AICE).
The Pogroms motive towards harming Jews was caused by the Russia government and its
encouragement of anti Semitism with propaganda. The Russian government gave the Russians a free
hand to engage in anti Jewish incitement (Modern, AICE). The first of the incitements against Jews
was an attack on Passover of 1903, which left 45 Jews dead, hundreds wounded, and 1,500 Jewish ...

Theories And Ethical Perspectives Of Child Development
Child development has been scrutinised through various theoretical frameworks attempting to
construct the idea of a perfect child; which has become a central part of practice (Woodhead, 2006).
The purpose of this essay is to explore child development, whilst demonstrating a critical
understanding of dominant psychological theories and how these can perpetuate certain political and
ethical perspectives. Bringing alternative theories to the dialogue is an acknowledgement that no one
theory can be said to have pre eminence. The case study (See Appendix) is used as a vehicle to explore
the application of a range of theories; and ethical dilemmas practitioners working with children may
encounter. Additionally, this case study aims to demonstrate how practitioner s expectations of
children are constructed; by accepting certain theories as facts in accordance with: historical, political
and cultural nature. Furthermore; I intend to make reference to my own childhood experiences; and
how this may affect the lens in which I view child development, for my future practice.
Studies of child development seem multidisciplinary; particularly considering the philosophical,
neuroscientific, and psychological ideologies. As observed by Sorin 2005; traditionally through Locke
s ideologies, society tended to portray children as blank slates , and education was a way of filling in
the slate with knowledge . However, Levitt 2007:7 identifies shifts in paradigms, identifying

Comparing Cultures
October 21, 2017
Comparing Cultures
When comparing cultures, one must form a definition of what culture is. Culture can be easily defined
as the social behavior and normality s found in human societies. It can also be easily made up of a
composed arrangement of educated conduct and thought designs. Culture is a sorted out framework
since it includes many parts. Throughout the world, there are many cultures that are both very
different and also very similar. Culture encompasses religion, food, what we wear, how we wear it, our
language, marriage, music, what we believe is right or wrong, how we sit at table, how we greet
visitors, how we behave and one million other things. (Cristina De Rossi.) ... Show more content on

In people, culture must be learned through experiences. For most countries, learned behaviors are
passed down from one generation to the next. The purpose behind this is on the grounds that culture
isn t natural like in creatures because they are not conceived with it. People will begin to get their way
of life during childbirth and it takes numerous years to take in the way of life like how to talk the
dialect and comply with the rules that everyone must follow, that is the reason it is said we should
respect their elders.
The two countries that we are going to compare are India and China. The greatest contrast among
Indian China is the level of development in both nations. Advancement can be seeing more in India
than in China and the struck me the most. There could be many variables causing this distinction. To
begin with, let s examine the differences in the government of meat country. Since the meaning of
time, the Chinese government is continuing to do things their way heavily influencing what happens
in the country. They have inumerous laws that directly or indirectly cause a standstill with innovation.
The majority of the things our state possessed in China bus to begin something intends to first get
every one of the clearances from the government, which is extremely troublesome. Conversely, Indian

Genocide in Chile
ChileFrom 1973 1977, there was genocide in Chile. The targets were people who believed in the
communist government system. The start of it all began on September 11th, 1973 when Chilean
commander in chief, Augusto Pinochet Ugarte commanded the Chilean army and police force to
overthrow the current president Salvador Allende. The main reason for the overthrow was because of
Allende s economic plan. With it, inflation was rising 1% every day. The only reason the coup was
successful at overthrowing the government was because America backed them. With Pinochet in
power, his army removed everyone who they deemed the remotest rick to his new military junta. He is

Those numbers show that this time period was genocide. People were disappearing , being tortured
and killed just because they believed in a different type of political system. An estimated 30,000
Chileans survived imprisonment and severe torture by agents of Pinochet s secret police electric
shock, beatings, near drowning, and rape in secret detention facilities. During his seventeen year rule
Chile became a pariah state, internationally condemned for ongoing, systematic violations of human
rights. Pinochet played a leadership role in initiating and overseeing many of these atrocities. One
month after the coup, he authorized a death squad, led by his close associate General Sergio Arellano,
to expedite justice . Using a Puma helicopter, a five member military team led by General Arellano
flew to various northern cities and, at each stop, selected prisoners and shot or bayoneted them in the
middle of the night. Over a period of four days, sixty eight civilians were killed, having committed no
crime other than serving in local community leadership roles under the elected Allende government.
This series of atrocities became known as the Caravan of Death. All of this killing was mostly the
work of the army s Dirección de Inteligencia Nacional (DINA). The DINA also killed someone here in
the Unites States. In September 1976, the DINA assassinated

Role of Food in Sylvia Plath s The Bell Jar
The Bell Jar
Sylvia Plath s The Bell Jar is rich with an array of motifs, all which serve to sustain the novel s
primary themes. A motif particularly prevalent within the first half of the novel involves food,
specifically Esther Greenwood s relationship with food. This peculiar relationship corroborates the
book s themes of Esther s continuous rebirthing rituals, and of her extreme dissatisfaction. The
interrelation with food functions in two distinct manners: literally and figuratively. This analysis will
concentrate on the figurative role of food in The Bell Jar, and how it denotes Esther s overall state.
Early on in the novel, Esther establishes her attitude towards food: I m not sure why it is, but I love
food more than just ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
She describes this peculiar strategy, as seen in the Ladies Day luncheon, While we were standing up
behind our chairs listening to the welcome speech, I had bowed my head and secretly eyed the
position of the bowls of caviar (Plath 26). Esther demonstrates substantial control when dealing with
food, a control that is indubitably absent in her own life.
Perhaps the most memorable incident regarding food in The Bell Jar is the aforementioned Ladies Day
luncheon, which is reminiscent to Esther s rebirthing and purifying bath rituals. Esther gorges herself
during the banquet in attempts to satisfy her starvation, however this binge eventually leads to
purging. Caroline J. Smith notes in The Feeding of Young Women : Sylvia Plath s The Bell Jar,
Mademoiselle Magazine, and the Domestic Ideal that purging seems to be the necessary and inevitable
result of [Esther s] disordered eating (16). The purging appears to emulate the same rebirthing and
purification effect Esther feels after a hot bath: I felt purged and holy and ready for a new life (Plath
48). Yet on the following page, Esther is once again starving (Plath 49). This accurately displays her
insatiable hunger; regardless of how much Esther consumes, or how purified she feels, she is never
quite satisfied.
All of The Bell Jar s episodes with food lead to one comprehensive

How Does Flannery O Connor s Use Of Cumulative, Third Person
Flannery O Connor s use of cumulative, third person point of view with an objective narrative, and
emphasis on a hat used for symbolism in her style all build upon each other to enhance her themes of
wealth with social status and appearance as a faulty measure of reality.
A story is just the alphabet shuffled in the hands of the author; like as a magician places their deck in a

Major Accomplishments Of Isaac Newton
Introduction
Isaac Newton is believed to have been born on 4th January 1643 in Woolsthrope, England. His
biological father was a farmer who died three months before he was born. He was raised by his
grandparents after his mother decided to remarry after three years of his father s death. Isaac started to
attend school when had fully grown. There was a time that his mother wanted him to drop out of
school and assist him to farm. But he was convinced that education is the key to his success and so he
went back to school. He grew as a lonely child who only focused on his writing and studies.
He started attending school at the King s school, Grantham where he learnt Greek and Latin
languages. He hated farming with a passion and that is why he refused several attempts by his mother
to make him one. He struggled to develop mathematics that saw him come up with several formulas
including calculus.
In 1661, he started to attend Cambridge College for his further studies. He continued to study in that
college till he became a professor of mathematics. He was subsequently elected to represent
Cambridge University as a member of parliament. He was later forced to leave Cambridge due to the
plagues that occurred in 1665.

others could be seen crowding around an old tube TV cheering on a friend that was playing in a
tournament. Others could be found hanging out in the arcade.
Still, Super Smash Con had more to offer. There were also musical acts that performed, to include,
The Washington Metropolitan Gamer Symphony Orchestra, Jomela, and the The Kyle Athayde Dance
Party. In addition to the music, there were frequent performances by Urban Evolution a fitness group
that performed their version of Smash VBrothers using a blend of freerunning and parkour.

their chosen gaming character. Given the amount of audience members I could tell that attendees were

Death And Tragedy Of Seaworld
Hurry up, come on down, and take a trip to one of Orlando, Florida s most famous theme parks,
SeaWorld! Grab your friends, family, kids and neighbors to peer in on SeaWorld s most prized
possession... Shamu, a spectacular look on an Orca whale s magnificence as you watch them fly, loop,
and dive through the air into the nearly oceanic waters... this is what they want you to think anyway.
Behind SeaWorld s thick, poorly patched walls, lies a blanket that cascades over all the dark lies and
secrets. A story of death and tragedy is told and soon, the truth unveils. Disease stricken and uncared
for, these orcas are drowning in tanks the size of bathtubs. They need their family, their pod, their
home the ocean. From improper dental care to malnutrition, the whales are not even fed correctly.
Even if SeaWorld increased the tank size, it would still not be enough. Just like us, orcas need to be
with their pods, or family, due to the psychological and physical attachment they have on them in
order to survive in the wild. Although SeaWorld s Shamu show has brought in over 2.5 billion dollars
into the entertainment industry, the orcas of the park should be set free due to the decrease of
psychological and physical health, resulting in a declination of the whale s average lifespan in
captivity.

Argumentative Essay On Children And Poverty

In order to create an efficient and long lasting policy agenda, one requires an understanding of 1) the
nature of the poverty problem, 2) current evidence of what constitutes proven and 3) strategies to

The Variance Of The Unexpected Market Returns Essay
Because and are iid, the variance of the unexpected market returns is: and the covariance between the
unexpected stock and market returns is: Therefore, combining (B.1) and (B.2) gives the expression for
the noise beta of stock i: The approximation is likely to be good in non concentrated markets, like the
U.S. stock markets. In the particular case in which all stocks are of equal size (i.e., ), then we are in
the presence of the base case of minimum market concentration ( and ). In this particular situation,
(B.3) is reduced to , corresponding to the framework of Ball (1977). In this case, equation (15) is
reduced to , implying that the unconditional beta will be driven towards one as the predictability of the
market returns goes to zero: . What happens to the noise beta when stocks are of various sizes? To
answer this question, it is helpful to derive the noise beta of a typical portfolio. From (B.3), the noise
beta of the equally weighted portfolio of stocks is given by: while the noise beta of a value weight

betas of the stocks and portfolios will also be close to one when the level of market concentration is
low. Indeed, when the degree of market concentration tends to perfect competition, all terms in RHS

Americans are actually in full support of going green , but not everyone does it; presumably because
they either don t think about it or because there aren t enough businesses supporting it. This is
especially true when it comes to making purchases. As previously stated, consumers are accustomed
to having to spend money to receive items in return. So, the concept of giving things away and
receiving things for free do not necessarily resonate easily, without reminders. Furthermore,
consumers may not realize just how wasteful they really are and how they could actually help save the

might say it shows disrespect and hatred to a country that has given so much. In the case of Texas v.
Johnson, Johnson was accused of desecrating a sacred object, but, his actions were protected by the
First Amendment. Although his actions may have been offensive, he did not utter fighting words. As
stated in Source D Justice William Brennan wrote the 5 4 majority decision in holding that the
defendant s act of flag burning was protected speech under the First Amendment to the United States
Constitution. By burning the flag, Johnson did not infringe upon another s natural human rights. He
was simply expressing his outrage towards the government, which is within the jurisdiction of the
First Amendment. Another court case, where the 5 4 majority ruled in favor of the defendant was
United States v. Eichman in 1980, a year after the Johnson case. In the case of United States v.
Eichman, 496 U.S. 310 (1990), the law was struck down by the same five person majority of justices
as in Texas v. Johnson, 491 U.S. 397 (1989). [Source D] Multiple times in flag burning cases,

Nathaniel Hawthorne s Gloomy And Gothic Atmosphere
Nathaniel Hawthorne s gloomy and gothic atmosphere sets the overall mood of The Scarlet Letter. The
novel invokes a sense of great anticipation in the reader, particularly through the dramatic events
surrounding the novel s protagonist, Arthur Dimmesdale. However, the way his motivations and
conflicts intertwine and mature throughout the novel allows the readers to see that he is much more
than just a sinner ultimately getting what he rightfully deserves. His persona and values also evolve
throughout the book; showing how a man who keeps the truth withheld from those who need to hear it
can lead to that man s destruction.
Arthur Dimmesdale is a reverend and along with the job comes the people, but most importantly, God.
Having this particular duty is hard to maintain and when everything in one s life depends on how one
is viewed; one can see how at the beginning of the novel Arthur is reluctant to speak of the adultery he
has committed. During the first few chapters Arthur s motivation surrounds the need to survive; he
wants to survive the punishments bestowed on Hester without anyone knowing of his guilt. As time
goes by with the truth still hidden, his conscience gets the better of him; a bloody scourge owned by
dimmsdale surfaces from the book and the idea of Dimmsdale whipping himself as punishment arises.
He constantly has his hand over his chest during the book; it is believed he has carved a letter, A over
his chest and constantly feels it ache. The

Anti Social Personality Disorder ( Ocd )
Abuse and neglect during childhood have a strong predisposition to having anti social personality
disorder
In 2013, an estimate of 679, 000 children were abused or neglected (National Children s Alliance,
2013). Abuse and/or neglect history in young adults can have strong impact physically and
emotionally. Previous researchers have found that abuse and/or neglect in young adults can be one
linked to personality disorders. They have found that Anti social Personality Disorder (APD) can be
one of the personality disorders that s linked to abuse and/or neglect. APD is characterised by a
pervasive pattern of poor social conformity, deceitfulness , impulsivity, aggressiveness,
irresponsibility, lack of remorse and criminality (American Psychiatric Association, 2013).
APD is a well known disorder that researchers have been trying to determine the cause of it. Bierer et
al. (2003) conducted a study and found that children that experience sexual and physical abuse have
strong predictor to paranoid as well anti social personality disorder. The participants that helped find
these results were either referred from the outpatient psychiatric clinics or referred themselves by
responding advertisements and press release. Each participant was given a childhood trauma
questionnaire (CTQ) to assess the participant s childhood. The questionnaire was five point Likert
type scale to help determine the frequency of the traumatic occurrences. The researchers measured

My Aphorism
My aphorism is hold tight to your roots but be open to the future. This is aphorism really relates to me
and what I believe in. It shows the importance of knowing who you are but also being open to new
things to come in the future. Holding tight to your roots means remembering where you came from
and what standards and ideals are important to you. In my aphorism when I say be open to the future it
means being open to new ways of thinking and change later on in your life. My aphorism means
remembering who you are but not letting that hold you back in the future. My aphorism is important
because it tells you to remember who you are, where you came from, and to remember the ideals and
standards that you have. Also, be open to other ideas or things happening in your life in the future. To
me my aphorism means holding on to my ideals and standards and knowing where I came from. Even
later on in life towards the future I will always remember who I am but be open to new things that are
to come. My aphorism shapes and effects my decisions because when I make my decisions I
remember who I am and my standards. I also know to be open to new things in life and new ways of
thinking. The aphorism I have chosen has helped me to not be so stubborn. It has also helped me to be
more open to change. My aphorism can help an individual because anyone can relate to it. Everyone
has roots. Most people have a specific set of standards that they try to live by. My aphorism can also
help by showing people what they already know but then expounding on that idea in the future. The
good that people can find in my aphorism is the fact that it can relate to anybody s life. In my
aphorism it talks about remembering who you are and where you came from but still being open to
new things life. The good that it shows is remembering who you are but being open to the future to
come. The effect of ignoring my aphorism is not being able to be open to new ideas and ways of
thinking in the future. Not being able to remember your roots and where you came from. You lose
your identity and who you really truly are. Society would benefit from living by my aphorism because
it would show society to remember who they are and their

Ecapism In Screwball Comedy Film
Screwball comedy is one of the main six types of comedy films. It normally involves aspects of
escapism and has a female lead. Screw ball comedies where also meant as a spoof or parody of
romantic comedies and as such often have plots centered around male and female interaction.
Screwball comedy originated during the great depression, during this time period many people where
hard on their luck and that could have been one of the factors that lead to screwball comedy generally
depicting escapism. In Sullivan s travels we see escapism some during the first half of the movie with
the main character trying to make a movie about the hard times people are going thru instead of a
comedy because he does not think people really want that escape. However,

hindu death rituals
There is one thing that is certain in this lifetime that eventually we all must die. A belief in the cyclical
reincarnation of the soul is one of the foundations of the Hindu religion. Death is viewed as a natural
aspect of life, and there are numerous epic tales, sacred scriptures, and vedic guidance that describe
the reason for death s existence, the rituals that should be performed surrounding it, and the many
possible destinations of the soul after departure from its earthly existence (Retrieved from

rituals performed for the soul of the dead body so it reaches heaven peacefully.

The standard cremation ceremony begins with the ritual cleansing, dressing and adorning of the body.
The body is then carried to the cremation ground as prayers are chanted to Yama, invoking his aid.
It is usually the chief mourner and the eldest son who perform the Agni or fire ceremony. He
circumambulates the pyre counterclockwise for everything is backward at the time of death and lights
the pyre. The death now is an offering to Agni. After burning the corpse the chief mourner cracks the
skull with a bamboo , thus releasing the soul from entrapment in the body. After cremation a thirteen
day ritual is done for the safety of the soul till it reaches heaven. Family read a holy book called
Bhagwat Geeta every afternoon for the deceased person. .Twelve hours after the cremation, the ashes
are thrown into a river, ideally the Ganges river, and the mourners walk away without looking back.
On the 3rd, 5th, 7th or 9th day, relatives gather for a meal of the deceased s favorite foods. A portion is
offered before his photo and later ceremonially left at an abandoned place, along with some lit
camphor. On the 31st day, a memorial service is held. In some traditions it is a repetition of the funeral
rites. At home, all thoroughly clean the house. the chief priest than prays for the deceased and his

A Research Study On Forensic Psychology
Through the submission of my statement I am willing to share my personal abilities, declare my
academic competence and provide motives and causes which led me to pursue a Postgraduate degree
in the field of Forensic Psychology. Obtaining a PsyD in Forensic Psychology will not only provide
me with more specific knowledge and research opportunities at the graduate level, but it will serve as
a foundation for a career in Psychology.
The reason which led me to apply for a DForPsy degree in Nottingham university rather than a Ph.D.
is mostly because I m particularly interested in practising psychology rather than exclusively
conducting research and work in academia. However, the fact that the top up programme in Forensic
Psychology is focused on clinical skills but also placed an emphasis on research it provides me with
the advantage of flexibility in my future career.
A particularly important factor in choosing this career path has been my undergraduate experience
when under my dissertation I conducted a study in the field of cyberbullying assessing the
psychological characteristics of perpetrators and victims within a sample of 453 junior high school
students. This gave me the chance to contribute in teaching about cyberbullying in an audience of
students, parents and teachers. During this experience I was required to take an active leadership role
in terms of preparing lecture materials, providing a series of certain lectures for the public and

Theme Of Oliver Twist
The word money sums up a theme that Dickens has been preoccupied with in many of his novels .
Dickens has studied the nineteenth century commercially oriented England and observed the
corrupting influence of money on members and deplorably , suggesting how material possessions
have become the criterion of evaluating a human being . Dickens s critics are well aware of this
devastating influence . Humphry House confidently tells us that Dickens s plots and characters are ,
constructed round an attitude to money . Social status without it is subordinate . 1 This however , is a
general comment on the Dickensian text . But in Oliver Twist , the theme gathers momentum and

With the Victorian novelists , the scope of imagination takes a further step by being regarded as a

The Low Country Healthy Start Program
The Low Country Healthy Start program was designed to eliminate disparities in perinatal health,
improve birth outcomes, and quality of life in African American women and infants living in
Allendale, Bamberg, Hampton, and Orangeburg counties. This process evaluation sought to determine
whether the services provided by LCHS were effective in changing the birth outcomes associated with
chronic disease in African American women. Data collected from the initial risk screening and
assessment survey along with attendance data from services provided by LCHS was utilized. Case
summaries and frequencies were ran on all data linked with chronic disease to determine the risk
factors, recognize who was at risk, and what services were provided. Findings suggest that Asthma
was the most common chronic disease amongst its participants with smoking tobacco, poor coping
skills, negative feelings, and inadequate housing being the risk factors associated with asthma. The
services provided by LCHS were found to be insufficient in reaching participants with chronic
disease. The program in general proves to be useful and beneficial in addressing the major issues
associated with low birthweight infants, however the data collected for this particular study is all self
reported which leaves gaps and unanswered questions due to inconsistency in the data received.

Narrative of Quinceanera

From a Little Girl to a Young Woman
. The day of my Quinceanera started early. I had just turned 15 and it was the birthday I had always
dreamed of. I was always a dama in other Quinceanera s, but now it was time for my own celebration.
In Mexican culture, a dama is just like a bridesmaid. I had 14 of my closest friends as my dama s to be
a part of my court of honor . All 14 girls wore beautiful hot pink dresses and had polished hairstyles.
The girls looked like beautiful dolls. When my mother was a little girl she had two Quinceanera s.

Somehow, I managed to keep a smile on my face as if I had no fears. The ceremony included Bible
verses and singing. I received six gifts from my aunts and uncles: a Bible, a bouquet of flowers, a ring,
a bracelet, a rosary and a tiara. Each of them was blessed by the father. Each gift I received held a
meaning: closeness with family and with God, and the passage to womanhood.
Later that day, the celebration continued with a party at Eagles Banquet Hall. As the festivities started,
I was so happy about the night to come. My court of honor was introduced as they led me into the
celebration. We started out the night by performing a traditional Quinceanera march. It was a
choreographed routine that we practiced for five months leading up to that day. My father came out
with tears in his eyes and softly removed my ballerina slippers from my feet and replaced them with a
pair of woman s heels. With tears in his eyes, he grasped and hugged me so tight it was as if he didn t
want to let me go. My father and I started to dance the traditional father daughter dance. As the song
was coming to the end, my father whispered in my ear, You re a beautiful young woman, but you will
always be my baby girl. At that moment, tears filled my eyes and I realized how much love my father
had for me. I will always remember that moment for the rest of my life.

I Am Sam Movie Review
I am Sam I am Sam is a 2001 American drama film written and directed by Jessie Nelson, starring
Sean Penn as Sam who has an intellectual disability that had sole care for his daughter Lucy Diamond
played by Dakota Fanning. The two of them encounter problems with the Department of Child and
Family Services as they believe the presence of Sam s intellectual disability negates his ability to
parent. A lawyer Rita Harrison played by Michelle Pfeiffer plays an important role in this film as she
is the only one to have belief in Sam s ability to parent. This M rated film has won awards such as the
Stanley Kramer award for their ability to place an emphasis on social concerns. People with
disabilities are often discriminated against the rest of society as a result of their impairments. Jessie
Nelson s use of mis en scene and semiotic elements engage the members of the audience to position
them to have their own perspective of Sam s situation as presented. The scene that I have chosen to
analyse approaches the climax of the film where problems begin to arise between Sam and Lucy as the
department of Child and Family Services believe Sam is an unfit parent. This has come to attention as
Lucy is becoming smarter surpassing Sam s intellectual ability. Although Sean Penn is far from being
limited in his ability to express himself, he was able to convey such a condition with precise detail
used in his body expressions and dialogue in a complex manner. This would not have been

soon washed away with the water that surpasses all obstacles. As the foam bubbles and multiplies,
blocking the view of the world below, Micah awaits to find the treasures untold. The girls smile
widens in disbelief as she hopes and dreams about who she could be with all the riches from down
under the dark waters. The jewels could finally pull her out of the rags, that seem to have a way of
only finding her. Although, if she could have the gold it could drag her to a place of no return, since it

friend like this would never reveal all the secrets that are hidden within. Still, her friend continues to

A Monopoly is One Supplier and Numerous Buyers
Monopoly is where there is only one supplier and there are numerous buyers, where it means that
monopoly firms are the only firm in the market, which it means that they control the whole market. In
monopoly, as there are no other firms or competitors it means that there are no competition. An
example of monopoly is PLN, where it is the only electricity business in Indonesia, where there are no
other competitors with PLN. While perfect market is where there are both numerous of suppliers and
buyers. Perfect competition is where there are a huge amount of competitors or there is a big
competition in the market. There is no exactly a perfect competition yet, but an example of a business
where almost reaches perfect competition is stock exchange. In perfect competition, all firms produce
an identical or homogenous product where all of the firms are price takers. In a perfect competition,
the firms have a perfectly elastic demand curve.
Monopoly isn t always bad for consumers as monopolies make a lot of profit, it could be used for
research and development and for innovations. This monopoly firms may use price discrimination
which benefits the economically weaker sections of the society. For example, Trans Jakarta provide
cheaper cost where it would be beneficial for the consumer, the environment, as there are less private
cars, and for the firm, as more affordable price would attract consumers which there would an increase
of sales, to increase the market share. This monopoly

value of having transplant surgery weighs more than not being able to benefit or save someone s life.

Analysis Of Helft Mir Ihr Schwestern
Helft mir, ihr Schwestern is song number five from Robert Schumann s song cycle Frauenliebe und
leben. The song cycle was set to the text of a poem cycle of the same name by Adelbert von
Chamisso. Each poem in the cycle provides a glimpse into the story of a woman falling in love with a
man, getting engaged and married to him, getting pregnant and having a child, becoming a widow and
finally sharing her life story with her granddaughter. At the time that Schumann wrote this song cycle,
he was going through a legal battle with his future wife s father over the right to marry her. This poem
cycle contains themes of love, devotion, and longing that Schumann could personally relate with his
feelings for Clara Wieck, who would soon become Clara Schumann. In this essay, I will demonstrate
how Frauenliebe und leben is directly reflective of Robert Schumann s own life experiences. In so
doing, I will be analyzing the ways in which Schumann set the music in a fashion that emphasized the
structure and emotional content of the poetry. In order to better understand the context of Robert
Schuman s setting of Helft mir, ihr Schwestern, I will first provide a general analysis of the song cycle
as a whole. As Schumann set music to the various poems, he shifted the tonality to closely related
keys, such as a fourth or fifth away, or shifting the relative or parallel major and minor keys. These
shifts in tonality help emphasis the emotional development of the main character of the poems. The
song cycle begins with a relatively slow and reflective song in the key of Bb major, where the main
subject of the poem cycle first describes her feelings of intense, blind love for a man. The next song
shifts the tonal center up a fourth to the key of Eb. In this song, the woman raises the man of her
affection up on a pedestal of high praise, while she demeans herself to a lowly maid. Song three,
moves the tonality to the relative minor of the previous song, C minor. This song is about the woman s
disbelief that the man she adored so highly has fallen in love with her, and Schumann reflects that
disbelief by making the music more erratic in tempo. He also emphasizes the disbelief by repeating
the complete last stanza and then the

Plasma Membrane Lab Report
The Effects of Temperature and Detergent on the Plasma Membrane
Introduction
The Effects of Temperature and Detergent on the Plasma Membrane
Introduction
The fluid mosaic model developed by S.J Singer and Garth Nicolson in 1972 explains the structure of
the membrane. It shows this through the explanation of the phospholipid bilayer which contains
hydrophobic tails and a hydrophilic heads as well as the peripheral and integral proteins which help to
hold the structure. The fluid mosaic model also says how the membrane is in a fluid form rather than
solid because of the constant movement within the membrane (Biology Online, 2008).
The cell membrane is a semi permeable protective layer which protects the cell from the outside
environment by only allowing in and out of the cell only what is needed in order to survive. The cells
that make up the red beetroot contain a compound called betacyanin which is the cause for the red
pigment of the beetroot (Carter Edwards, 2011). The betacyanin is found within the vacuoles of the
cell and is soluble in water (Cellular membrane structure and function, n.d.). The proteins within the
membrane of the cell denature when subjected to high temperatures which causes the membrane to
break apart allowing the betacyanin within the cell to release causing a red pigment to release from the
beetroot. The higher the temperature and the longer at which the beetroot is exposed to it, causes more
pigment to release ( Beetroot Cell

Cleophon The Agora
My film is a fictional tale based on historic events and using legitimate historical characters. Under the
genre of war/political drama, this film focuses greatly on the final period of the Peloponnesian War

It takes place in Cleophon s fictional office room, a simple square room with minimal furniture to
emphasize the focus on Cleophon and his diligence. The scene occurs at nighttime and indoors, and
will be dimly lit by closed lamps and candles. This minimal lighting will provide even more drama, as
shadows will be cast along the walls. The main furniture in the scene is Cleophon s oak desk, covered
with parchment, emphasizing Cleophon s business and desperation to stop the Peloponnesians. On the
back wall of the office is a wall painting of Dike holding a scale of justice, representing the ironic
injustice of the scene. Cleophon is seated at his desk, wearing a simple chiton to suggest his lack of
concern for flamboyant, elite garments. The actor is in his early 30s, as the true age of Cleophon is not

with their superiority complex. The scene will begin with focus on a distressed Cleophon, busily

referred in the exhibit 7 in this case which cost approximately 1,003,000 to 2,235,175 dollars plus real
estate and related costs. This may limit the number of franchisees which could be a barrier of the
expanding strategy in the long run. Moreover, because of the company has its own fresh dough
facilities to supply fresh dough daily to both company owned and franchised bakery café , if there is
an accidental problem in deliver process, the store may lack of the fresh dough for producing in store.
Even though the alternative menus such as children s menus, innovative or trendy dishes and the
healthy menu are the opportunities of Panera to extend the target group of customers. The catering
service is the interesting opportunity for the Panera s management team to extend its market to
workplace, schools and parties. In addition, in my opinion expanding to outside United Stats is
another good opportunity to extend the market share as well. According to exhibit 9 in the case, the
direct rival of Panera would be Atlanla Bread Company which its products are almost the same line
with Panera (i.e. fresh baked breads, salads and sandwiches). If the company overpasses this threat
and does not differentiate its products and

Essay On Mother To-Child Transmission
Mother to child transmission (MTCT) of human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) accounts for nearly all
new infections in young children around the world1. Although the incidence rate of HIV has declined
in most parts of the world over the last 15 years, the World Health Organization (WHO) estimates that
in 2015, more than 1.4 million pregnant women globally lived with HIV.2 Without treatment, an HIV
positive pregnant woman has a 30 35% risk of transmitting the infection to her child3. USAID
estimates that 150,000 children in the world became infected with HIV through MTCT in 2015.4
The risk of MTCT of HIV can be nearly eliminated with early detection followed by appropriate
treatment.3 Antiretroviral therapy (ART) provided to the pregnant ... Show more content on

In October 2015, Côte d Ivoire revised its national PMTCT policy once more to adopt WHO s Option
B+ guidelines recommending that all pregnant and breastfeeding HIV positive women initiate lifelong
triple ART, regardless of CD4 count and clinical stage8. Prior to the adoption of the Option B+
guidelines, the MSHP supported a nationwide facility level operations research study to identify key
challenges faced by the existing national PMTCT program and to assess program effectiveness.9 The
study was carried out jointly by Health Alliance International, the MSHP, and the University of
Washington with support from Population Council under the USAID funded HIVCore Task Order.8
The study found that although the rates of HIV testing and delivery of ARVs increased with the shift
from Option A to Option B, the rate for retention in care remained steady. The study also found that
half of all patient loss to follow up occurred within the first 90 days after enrollment. While most loss
to follow up seemed to happen after initiation of ARVs, failing to access the earlier stage of the
PMTCT cascade of care (HIV

Essay Epidermolysis Bullosa
Epidermolysis Bullosa also known as E.B. is generally an inherited connective tissue disease. This
disease is evident at birth or soon there after. It causes large fluid filled blisters, in the skin and
mucosal membranes. Chaffing or even increase in room temperature may cause these blisters to form.
E.B. affects an estimated 50 in 1 million live births. The disease has been known to affect every racial
and ethnic group and is found in both males and females all over the world. The disease has been seen
in a wide variety of forms from mild to lethal form involving some organs. Epidermolysis Bullosa is
the result of a mutation in the keratin or collagen gene. There are three layers of skin epidermis,
dermis and the subcutaneous ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These are all very important in determining whether or not the patient has Epidermolysis Bullosa or if
it is a different skin disease. Knowledge of family history is also key because E.B. is mostly inherited.
The inheritance pattern may vary from dominant to recessive. The recessive form (meaning both
parents transmit the gene to a child) tends to be worse. Although the dominant form means one parent
carries the dominant gene enabling them to pass it on to their child. Diagnosing correctly must also
take into account the symptoms. There are many complications that can happen with any one of the
varieties of Epidermolysis Bullosa. The symptoms of a patient with Epidermolysis Bullosa may vary
depending on the type of Epidermolysis Bullosa. The symptoms may include:
 Blistering of the skin, how severe depends on the type of Epidermolysis Bullosa.
 Deformity or loss of fingernails and toenails
 Internal blistering, including in the throat, esophagus, upper airway, stomach, intestines and urinary
tract
 Skin thickening on palms and soles of the feet (hyperkeratosis)
 Scalp blistering, scarring and hair loss (scarring alopecia)
 Thin appearing skin (atrophic scarring)
 Tinny white skin bumps or pimples (milia)
 Dental abnormalities, such as tooth decay from poorly formed tooth enamel
 Excessive sweating
 Difficulty swallowing (dysphasia)
 Alopecia (hair loss)
 Respiratory

  • 2. The Bank of England and The 2008 Financial Crisis Essay Due to the 2008 financial crisis, the Bank of England employed quantitative easing (an unconventional monetary policy used to stimulate the economy) by cutting interest rates down to 0.5 % and has been keeping it until now. The Bank made the decision to keep QE and the interest rate unchanged in March. Spare capacity (the ability of a firm to produce more of a product than is now being produced) is used by the BoE to justify its use of forward guidance policy (a communicative tool for monetary policy). Low interest rates improved the economy by increasing consumption and investment, which are the components of AD. The AD curve shows the total spending on goods and services in a period of time at a given price level. In constructing on AD ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The money supply will increase as the components of AD (C+I) rise. Figure 2 illustrates the increase in money supply through showing the rightward shift of the MS curve, from MS1 to MS2. The money demand will remain the same (MD). Therefore, increasing the money supply will lower the interest rate from i1 to i2. This is partly due to the increased availability of money. More money around means it is easier to acquire and thus command lower interest rates. However, such an increase in money supply may also increase the inflation rate and possibly cause a hyperinflation if uncontrolled. The main benefit of low interest rates is its stimulating effect on economy. The BoE can help start businesses spending on goods which helps the economy in the long run and can help consumers to spend more on durable goods. Also the consumers demand for products will increase. This will force the firms to try to meet the demands by hiring additional workers which in turn will reduce the unemployment rate. A disadvantage of low interest rates is low interest rates harm savers and those who rely heavily on interest income in the long run. Workers are influenced by lowered interest rates because the firms that benefited from the changes in rates will hire more workers while the opposite will be true for the negatively affected firms. Stockholders are affected because when interest rates rise, stocks tend to fall. Suppliers ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 4. Soloman Schultz Essay My Great great Grandfather, Soloman Schultz, was part of a huge historical event that impacted my family and its history significantly. Along with two million Russian Jews, Soloman Schultz left Russia to get away from anti Jewish rioters called Pogroms. In 1903 when Soloman Schultz lived in Russia, the second wave of pogroms arose. Pogroms are most often present during periods of political crisis in a country to escape punishments or penalties from their actions (Modern, AICE). A pogrom is an outbreak of mass violence directed against a minority religious, ethnic, or social group (Modern, AICE). In 1903 in Russia, there were groups made up of Christians that had organized massacres and riots against Jews. The organization of the Pogroms was led by monarchist societies, and a group known as the Black Hundreds was the main organizer (Modern, AICE). The Pogroms motive towards harming Jews was caused by the Russia government and its encouragement of anti Semitism with propaganda. The Russian government gave the Russians a free hand to engage in anti Jewish incitement (Modern, AICE). The first of the incitements against Jews was an attack on Passover of 1903, which left 45 Jews dead, hundreds wounded, and 1,500 Jewish ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 5. Theories And Ethical Perspectives Of Child Development Child development has been scrutinised through various theoretical frameworks attempting to construct the idea of a perfect child; which has become a central part of practice (Woodhead, 2006). The purpose of this essay is to explore child development, whilst demonstrating a critical understanding of dominant psychological theories and how these can perpetuate certain political and ethical perspectives. Bringing alternative theories to the dialogue is an acknowledgement that no one theory can be said to have pre eminence. The case study (See Appendix) is used as a vehicle to explore the application of a range of theories; and ethical dilemmas practitioners working with children may encounter. Additionally, this case study aims to demonstrate how practitioner s expectations of children are constructed; by accepting certain theories as facts in accordance with: historical, political and cultural nature. Furthermore; I intend to make reference to my own childhood experiences; and how this may affect the lens in which I view child development, for my future practice. Studies of child development seem multidisciplinary; particularly considering the philosophical, neuroscientific, and psychological ideologies. As observed by Sorin 2005; traditionally through Locke s ideologies, society tended to portray children as blank slates , and education was a way of filling in the slate with knowledge . The start of it all began on September 11th, 1973 when Chilean commander in chief, Augusto Pinochet Ugarte commanded the Chilean army and police force to overthrow the current president Salvador Allende. The main reason for the overthrow was because of Allende s economic plan. With it, inflation was rising 1% every day. A motif particularly prevalent within the first half of the novel involves food, specifically Esther Greenwood s relationship with food. This peculiar relationship corroborates the book s themes of Esther s continuous rebirthing rituals, and of her extreme dissatisfaction. The interrelation with food functions in two distinct manners: literally and figuratively. This analysis will concentrate on the figurative role of food in The Bell Jar, and how it denotes Esther s overall state. Perhaps the most memorable incident regarding food in The Bell Jar is the aforementioned Ladies Day luncheon, which is reminiscent to Esther s rebirthing and purifying bath rituals. Esther gorges herself during the banquet in attempts to satisfy her starvation, however this binge eventually leads to purging. Caroline J. Smith notes in The Feeding of Young Women : Sylvia Plath s The Bell Jar, Mademoiselle Magazine, and the Domestic Ideal that purging seems to be the necessary and inevitable result of [Esther s] disordered eating (16). The purging appears to emulate the same rebirthing and purification effect Esther feels after a hot bath: I felt purged and holy and ready for a new life (Plath 48). Everyone has roots. Most people have a specific set of standards that they try to live by. My aphorism can also help by showing people what they already know but then expounding on that idea in the future. The good that people can find in my aphorism is the fact that it can relate to anybody s life. In my aphorism it talks about remembering who you are and where you came from but still being open to new things life. The good that it shows is remembering who you are but being open to the future to come. The effect of ignoring my aphorism is not being able to be open to new ideas and ways of thinking in the future. Not being able to remember your roots and where you came from. You lose your identity and who you really truly are. Society would benefit from living by my aphorism because it would show society to remember who they are and their ... A Research Study On Forensic Psychology Through the submission of my statement I am willing to share my personal abilities, declare my academic competence and provide motives and causes which led me to pursue a Postgraduate degree in the field of Forensic Psychology. Obtaining a PsyD in Forensic Psychology will not only provide me with more specific knowledge and research opportunities at the graduate level, but it will serve as a foundation for a career in Psychology. The reason which led me to apply for a DForPsy degree in Nottingham university rather than a Ph.D. is mostly because I m particularly interested in practising psychology rather than exclusively conducting research and work in academia. However, the fact that the top up programme in Forensic Psychology is focused on clinical skills but also placed an emphasis on research it provides me with the advantage of flexibility in my future career. A particularly important factor in choosing this career path has been my undergraduate experience when under my dissertation I conducted a study in the field of cyberbullying assessing the psychological characteristics of perpetrators and victims within a sample of 453 junior high school students. An example of monopoly is PLN, where it is the only electricity business in Indonesia, where there are no other competitors with PLN. • 39. Analysis Of Helft Mir Ihr Schwestern Helft mir, ihr Schwestern is song number five from Robert Schumann s song cycle Frauenliebe und leben. The song cycle was set to the text of a poem cycle of the same name by Adelbert von Chamisso. Each poem in the cycle provides a glimpse into the story of a woman falling in love with a man, getting engaged and married to him, getting pregnant and having a child, becoming a widow and finally sharing her life story with her granddaughter. At the time that Schumann wrote this song cycle, he was going through a legal battle with his future wife s father over the right to marry her. This poem cycle contains themes of love, devotion, and longing that Schumann could personally relate with his feelings for Clara Wieck, who would soon become Clara Schumann. In this essay, I will demonstrate how Frauenliebe und leben is directly reflective of Robert Schumann s own life experiences. In so doing, I will be analyzing the ways in which Schumann set the music in a fashion that emphasized the structure and emotional content of the poetry. In order to better understand the context of Robert Schuman s setting of Helft mir, ihr Schwestern, I will first provide a general analysis of the song cycle as a whole. As Schumann set music to the various poems, he shifted the tonality to closely related keys, such as a fourth or fifth away, or shifting the relative or parallel major and minor keys. These shifts in tonality help emphasis the emotional development of the main character of the poems. The song cycle begins with a relatively slow and reflective song in the key of Bb major, where the main subject of the poem cycle first describes her feelings of intense, blind love for a man. The next song shifts the tonal center up a fourth to the key of Eb. In this song, the woman raises the man of her affection up on a pedestal of high praise, while she demeans herself to a lowly maid. Song three, moves the tonality to the relative minor of the previous song, C minor. This song is about the woman s disbelief that the man she adored so highly has fallen in love with her, and Schumann reflects that disbelief by making the music more erratic in tempo. He also emphasizes the disbelief by repeating the complete last stanza and then the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 40. Plasma Membrane Lab Report The Effects of Temperature and Detergent on the Plasma Membrane Introduction The Effects of Temperature and Detergent on the Plasma Membrane Introduction The fluid mosaic model developed by S.J Singer and Garth Nicolson in 1972 explains the structure of the membrane. It shows this through the explanation of the phospholipid bilayer which contains hydrophobic tails and a hydrophilic heads as well as the peripheral and integral proteins which help to hold the structure. The fluid mosaic model also says how the membrane is in a fluid form rather than solid because of the constant movement within the membrane (Biology Online, 2008). The cell membrane is a semi permeable protective layer which protects the cell from the outside environment by only allowing in and out of the cell only what is needed in order to survive. The cells that make up the red beetroot contain a compound called betacyanin which is the cause for the red pigment of the beetroot (Carter Edwards, 2011). The betacyanin is found within the vacuoles of the cell and is soluble in water (Cellular membrane structure and function, n.d.). The proteins within the membrane of the cell denature when subjected to high temperatures which causes the membrane to break apart allowing the betacyanin within the cell to release causing a red pigment to release from the beetroot. The higher the temperature and the longer at which the beetroot is exposed to it, causes more pigment to release ( Beetroot Cell ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The main furniture in the scene is Cleophon s oak desk, covered with parchment, emphasizing Cleophon s business and desperation to stop the Peloponnesians.
