Dialectical Behavior Therapy And Mindfulness Essay
Dialectical Behavior Therapy Mindfulness Mindfulness is another way of meditation. Meditation was
used to seek to improve one s psychological or physical health, or spiritual growth. (Brantley, 2007).
The history of Mindfulness comes from Buddhism and his search for enlightenment and a foundation
of the four noble truths. The Buddha teaching focus on the four noble truths which consist of knowing
suffering exists, there is a cause of suffering, there is cessation of suffering and there is a path that
leads to the cessation of suffering. (Van Gordon, 2015). The four noble truths were not only there to
represent the Buddha s experiential understanding of suffering, but also to express the truth (Van
Gordon, 2015). Studies of Buddhism and the Four Noble Truths teach us that there is always going to
be suffering in our life but to find ways to overcome suffering (Tsering, 2005). Over the years
Mindfulness has been a way to treat a variety of health related conditions anywhere form stress,
anxiety and even cancer (M.Orsillo, 2010). Practicing mindfulness does not relate directly to any
specific faith or religious beliefs. Mindfulness inside the practice of social work was implemented to
help those with suicidal thoughts and borderline personality disorder. DBT teaches individuals the
skill to not be judgmental. Being non judgmental can be a difficult skill these days because we were
raised or taught to have different thoughts and points of views (Brantley, 2007).

Importance Of English Language
3.1 Introduction
English is a language which can be traced back to the 5th century by migration and resettlement of its
speakers into the different parts of the world. Beginning its foundation of the American colonies into
Europe and into the 17th century with its establishment of the East India Company (Paranjpe Prasad,
2010). The 200 years of presence that English had in India left a huge impression on its language
orientation. Both attitudinally and linguistically English has made its place into the new cultural
environment and fresh communicative needs. Despite the government s support towards Hindi, the
language inculcating the largest number of speakers under it compared to the other Indian Languages
has not yet been able to take up the prestige that English holds in India. India s larger population is
bilingual with proficiency in English. Today it has earned the privilege as the language of the world s
developed countries, their technologies and economy (Paranjpe Prasad, 2010). It is the very reason
that this language has caught the attention of the future generations irrespective of their home country
to put English at the pedestal and give development of their native tongue a second place. The
provision that English gives on the professional front is too strong as compared to any of the other
languages in India. It has not only acquired a wide range of functions in the Indian society, but has
also linguistically evolved its own characteristic features at the

Analysis Of One Flew Over The Cuckoo s Nest
Karsen M. Rau
Ms. Dilworth
ENG4U
4th December 2015
The Subversion of Gender Roles in One Flew Over the Cuckoo s Nest
In today s society, as well as in the past, men are typically placed in a position of power over women.
Although gender equality is increasing, a more patriarchal society is considered to be the norm.
However, in certain situations the gender roles that are played by men and women are reversed, and
women hold most, if not all of the power. Such as in Ken Kesey s novel One Flew Over the Cuckoo s
Nest, in this instance the ward is a very obvious matriarchy, where women rule over men and attempt
to metaphorically castrate them. Throughout the text there are many examples of women, Nurse
Ratched in particular, attempting to emasculate the patients on the ward. The ward is an extreme
matriarchy, and the men hold little to no power, whereas the women are able to control and manipulate
them with ease because of the reversal of roles.
In many ways Nurse Ratched shames the men for their masculinity, although it is fairly standard male
behavior. She makes them feel as if their virility is something to avoid and ultimately be ashamed of.
The Nurse takes perfectly normal human behavior and twists it to be seen as something perverted and
obscene. For example, when Billy Bibbit and Candy sleep together, the Nurse s reaction when she
realizes this fact causes him to feel extreme shame and embarrassment. Oh, Billy Billy Billy I m so
ashamed for you. (Kesey 314)

Macomber Gender Roles
Nobody truly wants to live alone in their lives, and many pursue marriage to secure those means. The
problem is that the relationship requires more than simply two people coming together. Ultimately
they bring out the darker parts of their nature and the insecurities they hide within. The short story The
Short Happy Life of Francis Macomber by Ernest Hemingway depicts the struggles between people
caused by their weaknesses, yet are built upon the inner workings of gender roles, and how losing
their fears could have let them break away from their cycle. The story starts with the wife, Margot
Macomber, trying to join the men, Francis and Wilson, in conversation but they both quickly kick her
from her wants in the discussion. She leaves in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Her only means of empowering herself is by sleeping with Wilson. When she comes that night back he
says to her you think that I ll take anything I know you will, sweet (12) because she feels that she can
at least have power because of his weakness. She knows that she can t get even by doing her acts in
plain sight because that would be disrupting the calm, complacency of a wife s place. She was smart
enough to know that she won t be mistreated without at least standing up for herself. The story seems
to make it clear that American Females have cruelty and that is why men take a domineering role to
ensure they remain respectful . Wilson represents this sort of manly and domineering personality. He
makes sure that he owns the situation when he says to Margot I say, you wouldn t like to drop my
beauty as a topic, would you? and she says I ve just started it and just coyly responds with Let s chuck
it (2). With just that being said it isn t overly disrespectful if he truly didn t want to talk about his
beauty , but she complains about how conversation was difficult and he merely replies saying No
difficulty, got a damn fine lion . She made it clear that she wasn t eager to talk about the damn fine
lion , but he doesn t care nor does he care if she doesn t get to talk because that s not what the men
were talking about. Wilson also gets annoyed when Margot cries about being excluded from their
conversation and Wilson tells Francis

Common Information Security Threats In this paper, I will identify security threats that Bank of
America faces today. In addition, I will describe the techniques and processes used to identify the
vulnerabilities and threats, describe risks to the information and related vulnerabilities within Bank of
America when utilizing components of the web. Discussions on BoA safeguard against legal issues
will be addressed followed by the types of social data that potentially cause problems for this bank

Friday Night Lights Movie Review Essay
The movie Friday Night Lights is based on a book by author H.G. Bissinger. It takes place at Permian
High School in Odessa, Texas in 1988 when tension between races was still strong in some areas of
the south. There is a focus in some areas of the film having to do with the racial tension and ongoing
conflict between the student body and the city as a whole. Even though desegregation had happened
by the time the book was written and the film was made, schools sometimes were still racially divided.
I also felt the movie showed how this football program exploited their black athletes. Of interest to me
was, the following of two of the main football players who are black. Boobie Miles and Ivory
Christian. They are as well respected as their white equivalents on the football field but, it illustrates
how attitudes change when the players walk off the field. The movie touches on the many
controversial subjects like, racism, hypocrisy, and failure where as the book is extremely socially
oriented, and centered primarily on racial issues and educational priorities. The film touches on these
issues, but, as I wrote, it is not the focal point of the movie. It appears that some of the scenes in the
movie were actually filmed in the football stadium the Panther s played yet, other home games looked
as if they had chosen another Texas stadium to film. Football is huge in Texas. While researching the
truthfulness of the movie, I came to find that the local affiliate pre empted a Major

Interpreting Theatre Concepts
Theatre can be described as an art form to show expression of opinion, empathize a phenomenon, or
tell a story through dialogue, song and body language. With multiple aspects contributing to this art,
theatre is truly multidimensional. Throughout the semester, I have watched productions to analyze and
evaluate aspects in the productions. Within helpful resources and my own techniques, I achieved the
course objectives in a successful way. Because of this course, I have truly learned a multitude of
aspects that can further enhance my education. Through evaluating and analyzing, I achieved the goal
of corresponding theatre concepts. These concepts including the aspects of dialogue within the
characters through observing and analyzing. For example, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

started. This aspect was helpful to understand which assignments needed to be completed as well as
when they were due. I also completed my assignments before the due date. I used time management to
complete assignments on time. For example, I would complete my discussion posts a day before they
were due or I would reflect on my postings with turning in the portfolio early. Because I turned
assignments in on time or even early, I would evaluate my own work through comprehending the
productions in a manageable amount of time. I also created a strategy to help me be successful. I
would read the articles and the videos associated with the production before watching the show. This
would help me understand the production better by the little details of the theme and character
evaluations. I also would write notes for each production to help prepare for the discussion postings
and quizzes. This helped me remember details of the show and for reviewing purposes before the quiz.
As a result, all of these aspects helped me be successful throughout the semester in this

The Art World Is A Forever Changing System
The art world is a forever changing system, with new ideas and concepts constantly emerging. Marcel
Duchamp, working in a world where art was focused heavily on pleasing the eye, is seen to emerge
with a new idea that aimed to challenge this retinal approach that was expected of art during this time.
Duchamp would call this new approach the readymade . This essay will discuss how Duchamp used
the readymade, specifically his 1913 piece Bicycle Wheel, to move away from the focus on the visual
and shift attention to a focus on the conceptual. Likewise, this essay will explore how Duchamp s
readymade has influenced artists such as Jeff Koons, who similarly incorporated the conceptual focus
of the readymade within his own 1981 87 readymade ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Duchamp is seen to use the word retinal as a means of critically referring to avant garde painting, as it
was apparent to him that the modern artist was becoming too immersed in a focus of pleasing the
viewer on a visual level, that they had neglected to stimulate the mind. As stated by Duchamp himself,
he wanted to put painting again at the service of the mind , and thus his creation of the readymade
emerged. The readymade consisted of a simple, unaltered, everyday object(s) that was presented as a
work of art. Through the creation of the readymade, Duchamp undermined these pre determined
aesthetic expectations of art as he started to exhibit his readymade pieces in high art exhibitions. From
this point onwards, Duchamp s artistic approach was changed via his re development of common,
everyday items and through the means of choosing and repositioning an object, Duchamp was able to
transform an everyday item into a work of art. Thus, the readymade can be seen to be driven by
Duchamp s interest in shifting attention away from the object itself, and instead refocusing this
attention on the creative relationship that he recognised between the artist, the work, the world and the
audience. Duchamp was strong in his belief that The creative act is not performed by the artist alone.
The spectator brings the work into contact with the external world through interpretation . Duchamp s

A Brief Note On The Country Of South Africa
Geography Lesotho, from which the capital is Maseru, is located in southern Africa and is an enclave
of South Africa (SA), sharing 909km of borders with its land locking neighbor. The terrain is mostly
composed of highlands with plateaus, hills, and mountains; it is the only country in the world that has
the totality of its land above 1000 meters. Arable land and permanent crops account for 10.27% of the
land while the rest (89.72%) is mountainous. The surface area is 30,355 sq km; same size as Belgium,
slightly smaller than Maryland. Some of Lesotho s natural resources are water, diamonds, sand, clay
and building stone. The nation produces mostly cereals such as corn, wheat, pulses, sorghum, barley
and also livestock. Lesotho is a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is mostly due to the fact that almost one person out of four is living with HIV or AIDS, the
second highest rate in the world. Therefore, almost one eighth of the GDP ( which was $2.457 billion
in 2013, ranking 175 compared to the rest of the world) goes to health care. Interestingly, 90% of the
population can read and write at the age of fifteen thanks to Lesotho being the country that spends the
highest proportion of its GDP (13%) towards education in the world. Economics Lesotho relies
heavily on SA: 90% of goods are imported and most Basotho (people living in Lesotho) are counting
on remittance from family members working in mines, on farms and as domestic workers in SA. Only
20% of the food is produced locally, the rest is mostly imported from SA. Government incomes
heavily rely on exchanges with SA through custom duties and royalties from water transfers. Energy
In Lesotho, more than 75% of the population can be considered as energy poor, relying on inferior
energy resources: biomass, i.e. wood, shrubs, dung, and crop residues. In rural areas, the proportion of
biomass usage for energy needs goes up to 90%. Such dependency has tremendous socio economic
effects: collection of biomass is mostly bared by women and children leading to a loss of productive
time for the former and educative time for the latter. Furthermore,

year, her absent father, falling in love, losing friends and discovering the truth about her identity.
Melina Marchetta opened doors to the complications of the first generation Australian born ethnic

Secondly Looking for Alibrandi explores the relationships between mother and daughters, fathers and
daughters, grandmothers and grandchildren, relatives, girlfriends and boyfriends, and girls together in
school. A blossoming relationship throughout the novel is between Josie and Jacob. Relationships can
be a catalyst for change. They come from different worlds yet balance each other out in the best ways
possible. A main concern explored throughout the novel is the difference between Jacob and Josie.
Throughout the novel, individuals who play an important role in Josie s life point out that Jacob isn t
her type. Both are shocked to find each other attractive, yet they both inspire each other. They both
mutually understand there s more than meets the eye. Jacob is special to Josie, they come from the
same class and Josie learns to get rid of bias of identity with his help and better to answer the question
of who she really is. This dynamic duo can relate to a lot of young individuals who are in committed
relationships. Most individuals look down upon young lovers and become sceptical on how long the
relationships would last. Not to mention the backlash Josie got from her peers about her relationships
with Jacob. Not to mention Josie would never be able to introduce Jacob to her strict Italian
grandmother. An issue a lot of young people face today as they would be shamed out of relationships.

Tips For Resolving Conflicts By Mrs. Breed
Solving conflict Conflict can be very hard to deal with. People always assume to use violence, but that
should never be the case. The best way to solve conflict is by staying calm, remaining positive, and

Persuasive Speech On Apprenticeships Pros And Cons
Hello from western North Dakota. I hope this un seasonably warm fall has found everyone in good
spirits, and that we don t wind up paying for it down the road. I haven t seen any frost teeth out there
yet, so I consider that a good sign!
I hope everyone has been paying attention to the recent boost in emphasis on education in North
Dakota, because in it may exist the ability to help foster interest in our apprenticeships, and ultimately
an increased interest in hiring our employers. Both of those, certainly are big positives. Fueled by a
large, bipartisan Congressional effort, the US Department of Labor awarded a $200,000
apprenticeship grant to North Dakota Job Service in early June. Following that award over the
summer, the North Dakota Department of Commerce hosted a series of apprenticeship accelerator
meetings around the state, in an effort to increase the amount of registered apprenticeships. In
cooperation with the Dept. of Labor, representatives of the ND Department of Commerce and ND Job
Service distributed specific instructions and maintain an open link on their websites, in an effort to
help private employers develop their own apprenticeship programs. While it would certainly be a good
thing if the general public became aware, and hopefully accepting, of the benefits that apprenticeships
can provide, this recent fanfare may only serve to obscure the differences between registered and joint
programs. I believe that we may be able to capitalize on

Toyota Motor Sales, U.S.A, Inc. or TMS has always proved to be a formidable force in the automobile
industry. The United States first graced with TMS presence in 1957, in Hollywood, California, sold

Conflicts In Samurai William
In Giles Milton s novel, Samurai William, the reader is taken to the other side of the globe to
experience the history of old world Japan. Though out the book, Milton provides reason for complex
historical events and actions, while still communicating the subtleties and mysterious customs of the
Japanese. The novel also closely examines the wide range of relationships between different groups of
Europeans and Asians, predominantly revolving around the protagonist, William Adams. The book
documents the successes and failures that occur between the two civilizations, then links them back to
either the positive or negative relationship they have. As the book goes on, the correlation is obvious.

All of these things were found by the Japanese to be incredibly rude and insulting and they took the
Europeans for barbarians. On the other hand, it was the Europeans who looked upon the Japanese as
backwards in their thinking. There were incredibly complex aspects of the country. Samurais were
known to test their swords on criminals by chopping their bodies to bits; casual violence was no need
for alarm here. There were subtle things like how they wore long strips of silk draped around their
bodies held only in place by a knotted rope; they tweezed the hairs from their faces and wore their hair
in oily buns on the tops of their heads. All of these differences could have very well been the negative
road block that would have stopped all progress in the relations between the two civilisations.
Alessandro Valignano was quick to recognise this potential disaster. He ordered that his Jesuits live
like natives to create harmony and understanding. He wrote a manual for them to follow with all the
behaviours this foreign country was built upon. He also encouraged them to think and behave as
though they were Japanese, to act with dignity and stoic decorum . In turn, the Jesuits became
accustom to the way of life of the Japanese, and found themselves to be much more successful in their
relationships with them. When William Adams came to the Land of the Rising sun, he was at first

not seen in King Without a Crown. Matisyahu is only praising God; he says, without [God] there s no
me, you re the air that I breathe, for example. Matisyahu describes his relationship with God as one
that is like the relationship one has with food, for nourishment. He also says that he no longer has the
need for drugs, sinesemilla, for it would only bring [him] down. The most notable portion of the music
video is at the very end; Matisyahu is walking down a street and, as he turns around a corner, meets a
boy. Matisyahu touches the boy on the shoulder and, it is as though the boy has reached a sort of
enlightenment. This is symbolized by the immortalization of the boy s portrait on the high, wooden
fence behind them, which had previously shown a video of Matisyahu performing the song. Finally is
Lupe Fiasco s Muhammad Walks, which is a direct sample of Jesus Walks. Everything is the same
minus the lyrics, which are rapped by Lupe and is about Islam and its prophets comparable to Jesus
Walks, but from a Muslim perspective. The most notable aspect of the song is how Jesus

Analysis Of The Curious Incident Of The Dog In The Night
In every piece of literature that we ve read, there is always one character that stands out to you. The
science behind why that happens all narrows down to the complex human brain.
The human brain is separated into different sections.
(Frontal lobe, cerebellum, etc.)
One of the most important parts of our brain is the Limbic System. The Limbic System is responsible
for controlling the emotions that you may feel in a situation. For example, if you see a child fall off his
bike, you may feel sympathy for him/her since you once fell off of your bike.
Now, let s not get too scientific! To boil down a detailed science, your emotions are also involved in
the thinking process while you read. You may make connections to the character, or have your own
opinion on the events that occur throughout the book. This is part of the reason you may find a
character to be intriguing.
This summer, I read the novel The Curious Incident of the Dog in the night time. By Mark Haddon.
The novel focuses on a highly intelligent boy named Christopher Boone, who is affected by autism
throughout his everyday life. Christopher ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
What would push her to have an affair? Later in the novel, it explains that she feared dealing with
Christopher s autism, and how she constantly fought with her husband. I also found it quite different,
yet understandable, that she would choose to run away from Christopher s condition. Obviously, it
was because she had fear, and she didn t have a clue about management. It was different to me
personally because of the modern world that we live in today. Many children have autism, in fact, 1 in
110 kids face the effects of autism. But, the kids that we do see with autism, we also see very coping
parents along with them. Of course there will be parents who run away from parenting, but the idea
seems foreign thinking about the society that we live in

The Importance Of National Park
Although in recent years urgency for National Park funding and research has declined, the delicate
ecosystems within the U.S must be preserved as their vitality is threatened. Parks are government
protected areas by the National Park Service within the United States boundaries that house various
types of ecosystems. Yellowstone National Park was the first National Park created by congress and
Ulysses s. Grant by the Act of March 1, 1872, making it exclusively under the control of the Secretary
of the Interior. With the creation of Yellowstone, more than 100 countries contain around 1,200
preserved areas similar to that of a park. June 8th of 1906 Theodore Roosevelt passed the Antiquities
Act was passed, enabling presidents to declare landmarks of scientific or historic value in federal
ownership. The Antiquities Act laid the foundation for nearly 100 protected areas throughout the U.S.
In 1916 President Woodrow Wilson created the National Park Service, a federal bureau responsible for
the preservation of 35 national parks. It s purpose was to, conserve the scenery and the natural and
historic objects and the wildlife therein and to provide for the enjoyment of the same in such manner
and by such means as will leave them unimpaired for the enjoyment of future generations. (39 Stat.
535, 1916). The United States National Park System is made of more than 400 areas covering more
than 84 million acres of land throughout 50 states, parts of the District of Columbia, Guam,

Antoine Arnauld s Five Propositions
To defend themselves from monarchial persecution, the nuns of Port Royal employed gender
paradoxes. In the 1660s, Louis XIV required all clergy to sign a formulary which required them to
condemn Jansen s five propositions with both heart and mouth. The nuns of Port Royal resisted by
invoking the Pauline interdictions, which prohibited them from taking an oath on a theological matter
that they were not allowed to study or discuss, even though there was a small, but influential group of
nuns who had read the texts of the Jansenist debates. Their resistance marks a departure from the
teachings of Angelique Arnauld who advocated suffering in silence, and believed: Il faut recevoir tout
ce qui nous arrive, toutes les petites disgraces, les ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In response to the formulary, a schism developed among the nuns: those who wanted to sign it with
Antoine Arnauld s right/fact distinction, a clause which denounced the condemned doctrine with heart
and mouth but requested the signer s right to remain silent on the issue of whether or not the five
propositions and the heretical doctrine in question appeared in Jansen s text, signing a distinction that
would more openly defend Jansen, or not signing it at all. One issue with Arnauld s mandement was
that some of the nuns were incapable of understanding it; Angélique de Saint Jean wrote to Antoine
Arnauld, . .
. . Despite the fact that there were
nuns who understood the mandement, they could not explain its obscurities to those who were truly
ignorant because, according to Kostroun, educating some of these nuns would not only be a hopeless
cause because of their lack of intelligence but it would also force the convent to contradict what it had
maintained all along, which is that the nuns never talked about the Jansenist debates . .

The Orca Ordeal Essay
The latest animal rights issue to hit the public is a whale of a controversy. For decades, the public has
enjoyed visiting SeaWorld and taking in mesmerizing displays of aquatic performance by orcas, the
largest species of dolphins, and their trainers. Recent events have stirred up a media uproar over the
safety of these creatures and their trainers. Much of what the public knows about the maltreatment of
these creatures comes from a documentary released in 2013 called Blackfish . The breeding and
captivity of killer whales for entertainment purposes poses a threat not only to the whales, but also the
trainers who interact with them.
Observations show that orcas suffer from significant health and emotional issues while in captivity. ...

Being very emotional creatures, captivity denies orcas the emotional connections that they thrive on.
Killer whales form pods in the wild. These groups can be anywhere from 5 orcas to 50. Having strong
emotional attachment to their young, these pods place their safety as top priority. Calves stay with
their mothers until the age of four or later. For entertainment purposes, SeaWorld separates pods and
places calves with different mothers to create the most convenient pod to display in shows
(Cowperthwaite). Though they deny it, they attempt to play God by mixing and matching orcas to
create new families, all for the purpose of show business. Blackfish shows footage of a mother orca
going into extreme depression after being separated from her calf. Captive environments, such as
SeaWorld in Orlando, San Antonio, and San Diego or Loro Parque, in Spain, fail to create a realistic
and natural seeming environment. Orcas need large open spaces to swim, and tanks cannot provide the
size and diversity that an environment should have. Tilikum, perhaps the most famous of SeaWorld s
orcas, experienced lack of stimulation when he was forced to spend his nights in a 20x20 foot metal
box like tank with two other orcas. This environment did not provide light or room to move around; he
would be found in the morning with injuries from other whales kept in the same quarters
(Cowperthwaite). SeaWorld currently allows Loro Parque, a sea themed amusement park in

‘Conservatism Merely Reflects the Interests of the...
Conservatism merely reflects the interests of the privileged and prosperous. Discuss (45)
This statement is asking whether all forms of conservatism s values and actions in the past are because
they wish to reflect the interests of those in society who are better off, sacrificing the interests of the
less well off in doing so. The current debate is very unclear as opinion on this does, and always has
varied greatly. Generally, left wing labour supporters believe this statement is true whereas the rest of
society do not agree. Conservatives have strenuously denied this claim over the years. This essay will
argue that Conservatism does in fact merely reflect the interests of the privileged and prosperous,
despite this claim being ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Their belief in tradition is also because they believe that it prevents chaos and oppression, which is
created by revolution and reform as it moves people further and further apart.
However, Conservatism does merely reflect the interests of the privileged and prosperous, because
tradition and authority in themselves harm the less privileged, and because the belief in these values is
only because it prevents uprising, which would inevitably harm the privileged and prosperous. Burke s
belief that there is a natural hierarchy in society because people will work harder than others rather
than because of birth, education or special privilege is a false claim at suggesting that everyone has
equal chances. This is because this idea claims that birth, education and special privilege have no
impact on where you lie in society. This is not true as people with more opportunities at work; a better
education and special privilege inevitably give you a lot more opportunities to be higher up in the
hierarchical system. Also, the main reason for Conservatives belief in Authority is that it allows people
to know their roles in society, which inevitably prevents the less privileged from realising that they are
being unfairly treated within society.
De Maistre, a critic of the French Revolution, argued that revolution and reform would weaken the
chains that bind people together and lead to

Narrative Essay About Thalassomania
Thalassomania: a passion for the sea When I was in the sixth grade my best friend, Makayla, took me
surfing for the first time. On August 29th, we went to our favorite beach Pacific City. I fell in love
with the ocean, beach, sand between my toes, and the feeling of being a surfer. Surfing all day long
with an endless amount of laughs and smiles, we brought our rental surfboards back to the shop were
we got them from. It just so happened that the shop closed at 6, but we didn t realize that. Her mom
wasn t feeling comfortable just leaving the surf boards by the shop, so her mom bought a room at the
nearest hotel. Makayla and I were very pleased with this. The day was over, our tired bodies and hair

There was about 10, and I was so anxious. My family looked at them, and none of them were beginner
boards. Walking up to a store employee, I asked if they had any beginner boards for sale. He walked
me over to an area where the beginner boards were. To my disappointment, they were all around $600.
My family wasn t willing to pay that much, and I didn t want them to. Discouraged, we went to a
different surf shop. Where we also found out the surf boards were about the same price. We went to
out to lunch and my parents thought about what else I may want. They offered me a compromise.
Since renting a surfboard is only $25, they offered to put money in a bank account for me just for
surfing. I agreed and was very pleased with this idea. I had some money saved up so we went back to
the first surf shop we went to and I bought a wetsuit. For the rest of the day my younger brother and I
surfed with rental boards.
Leaving the beach that night, I was just as happy with the compromise my parents made for me, as I
would have been with my very own surfboard. That day taught me a lot about who I was and wanted
to be. I wanted to be a surfer girl with my very own surfboard. Who I was, was a city girl living in the
suburbs with the dream of being a surfer. I liked the idea better of having my very own surfboard, just
to feel more like a surfer. When in reality, it doesn t matter who I want to seem like, it s who I dream
to be, how I achieve my dream, and what my perception of myself

Environmental Contamination
The question lies does environmental contamination have a major effect on real estate properties?
Well environmental contamination turns out can cost the owner of the property or a potential buyer.
Environmental contamination on a property may have some implication on the on the property value.
Not only could potentially hurt the owner or potential buyer financially it could also do physical
damage to the property as well.
As a property owner or potential buyer they must be aware of what environmental contamination can
do to the property. There can be a range of things from toxic waste, noise pollution, the quality of
water and condemned properties. The risk of toxic waste left on or contaminates a property could
cause the property to sell at a lower price compared to similar properties. These toxic in ... Show more

It also has a lot to do with where these properties are located, most properties that are contaminated
are located near facilities such as landfills, power plants, and refineries. These properties value are
affect through the bundle rights of real estate. Bundle rights are the right of possession, the right of
control, the right of exclusion, the right of enjoyment and the right of disposition. With the property
being contaminated some may say property owners losses some of the rights under bundle rights. It
can be said that rights of enjoyment and disposal are not easily accessible. Therefore the loss on the
properties will be recognized as capital loss when the properties are sold if they can be sold.
In conclusion contamination of the environment usually has a negative impact on real estate.
Contamination will end up costing the owner or the potential buyer to weather it toxic noise or water
pollution. Contamination on the properties can also infringe on the owner bundle rights as

the public domain cannot be copyrighted such as calendars or commonly known definitions.
If I were to distribute a photocopy of a journal article for discussion at a lab meeting, it would not be

For a copyright, an author must distinguish the requirement of originality, which means, The work
owes its origin to the author, is independently created and not copied from other works. (Macrina,
2014 p.299). in regards to a patent, the inventor must distinguish the requirement of novelty. Novelty
is defined as the invention must not have previously existed in any way or have been used by other
individuals. For an inventor to prove novelty they must also prove the invention has not been
described in a publication worldwide (Macrina, 2014 p.299). Obviously, the requirement of originality
is much easier to prove than the novelty of an invention, which results in copyright infringement being
difficult to prove since the individual must have evidence of not only similarity but verbatim copying
of the original work. When filing to have a patent on an invention or subject matter, the main criteria
are, It must be useful, new or novel, nonobvious and reduced to practice. (Macrina, 2014 p.306).
According to The Guardian article, there are both pros and cons for allowing patents for human
genetic materials. The pros for making human genetic materials patentable are that it would increase
the incentive for companies to pursue genetic research. In the article, Dr Gareth Williams stated, By
declaring isolated forms of human DNA patent ineligible, it robs genome research companies of a
huge commercial incentive to

My Service Advisors Are Not Actively Selling Preventative...
If your service advisors are not actively selling preventative maintenance on a continuous basis, they
are leaving money on the table that should be easy enough to get. This is especially true if they know
customers from dealing with them in the past and have access to their maintenance history and repair
records. It s a matter of being proactive with your customers and explaining the real value of staying
ahead in the repair and maintenance game.
Every time a customer comes to your service department for any reason, you have an opportunity to
sell them on preventative maintenance that may not come your way again. Often, customers go to
their service department only when they have repair needs they are not sure of, and go to secondary
repair and maintenance shops for things like oil changes, brake service or tires. This is usually because
they believe these kinds of things to be less expensive in outside shops than they are at their
dealership, which is not necessarily so. But, if no one tells them that how will they know?
Many people neglect to perform preventive maintenance on their vehicles because they have not been
properly informed of the value it brings to them. The may have little or no knowledge of such things
and may be intimidated about asking. Certainly, this is an important part of the job of a service
advisor. Often, because of the negative light that has been focused in recent years on abusive up
selling practices, a service advisors fails to offer

Biometric Essay
Biometrics is used in many places and there is a bright future for them. Coca Cola has recently
replaced time card system with hand scanning machines. Finger print scanners are being used in many
states of the US. They have been used to trace social welfare fraud. An iris pattern identification
system is being used in Cook County, Illinois to ensure that right people are released from jail. ATM
machines have been installed with finger scanners to prevent theft and fraud in Indiana (Jain, 2005).

The technology is many years away from development. Blood pulses on a finger can be measured by
new biometric systems. This technology is currently under development. Nail bed identification is
based on identifying distinct spatial arrangement beneath the fingernail. Gait recognition is another
technology which is under development. This recognizes individuals by their distinctive walk and
captures a sequence of images to derive and analyze motion characteristics. The technology is
currently under development and its complete potential and limitations can be fully assessed. Many
biometric identification systems are being developed and tested (Woodward, 2005).
Biometric technologies are getting better and finely tuned. The rate of false readings and errors has
sharply fallen. However it still requires careful consideration and planning to implement a biometric
identification system. They are most costly and complicated to implement as compared with other
authentication systems. A proper evaluation of the system is important before purchasing any
biometric system. A thorough risk analysis is necessary. In many cases biometrics may be overkill.
Biometrics must be used if there is high level of risk involved. Customer acceptance is also important
when logging on to company websites. Home users might not be ready to install biometrics on home
computers for online banking.
Another consideration is where the digital data and templates will be stored. The

Depreciation and Vital Spark
New Economy Transport (A) p. 182The New Economy Transport Company (NETCO) was formed in
1955 to carry cargo and passengers between ports in the Pacific Northwest and Alaska. By 2008 its
fleet had grown to four vessels, including a small dry cargo vessel, the Vital Spark. The Vital Spark is
25 years old and badly in need of an overhaul. Peter Handy, the finance director, has just been
presented with a proposal that would require the following expenditures: Mr. Handy believes that all
these outlays could be depreciated for tax purposes in the seven year MACRS class. NETCO s chief
engineer, McPhail, estimates the postoverhaul operating costs as follows: These costs generally

This is a nominal, not a real, rate. NETCO s tax rate is 35%. QUESTION 1. Calculate the NPV of the
proposed overhaul of the Vital Spark, with and without the new engine and control system. To do the
calculation, you will have to prepare a spreadsheet table showing all costs after taxes over the vessel s
remaining economic life. Take special care with your assumptions about depreciation tax shields and
inflation. New Economy Transport (B) There is no question that the Vital Spark needs an overhaul
soon. However, Mr. Handy feels it unwise to proceed without also considering the purchase of a new
vessel. Cohn and Doyle, Inc., a Wisconsin shipyard, has approached NETCO with a design
incorporating a Kort nozzle, extensively automated navigation and power control systems, and much
more comfortable accommodations for the crew. Estimated annual operating costs of the new vessel
are: The crew would require additional training to handle the new vessel s more complex and
sophisticated equipment. Training would probably cost $50,000 next year. The estimated operating
costs for the new vessel assume that it would be operated in the same way as the Vital Spark.
However, the new vessel should be able to handle a larger load on some routes, which could generate
additional revenues, net of additional out of pocket costs, of as much as $100,000 per year. Moreover,
a new vessel would have a useful service life of 20 years or more. Cohn and

  • 2. Dialectical Behavior Therapy And Mindfulness Essay Dialectical Behavior Therapy Mindfulness Mindfulness is another way of meditation. Meditation was used to seek to improve one s psychological or physical health, or spiritual growth. (Brantley, 2007). The history of Mindfulness comes from Buddhism and his search for enlightenment and a foundation of the four noble truths. The Buddha teaching focus on the four noble truths which consist of knowing suffering exists, there is a cause of suffering, there is cessation of suffering and there is a path that leads to the cessation of suffering. (Van Gordon, 2015). The four noble truths were not only there to represent the Buddha s experiential understanding of suffering, but also to express the truth (Van Gordon, 2015). Studies of Buddhism and the Four Noble Truths teach us that there is always going to be suffering in our life but to find ways to overcome suffering (Tsering, 2005). Over the years Mindfulness has been a way to treat a variety of health related conditions anywhere form stress, anxiety and even cancer (M.Orsillo, 2010). Practicing mindfulness does not relate directly to any specific faith or religious beliefs. Mindfulness inside the practice of social work was implemented to help those with suicidal thoughts and borderline personality disorder. DBT teaches individuals the skill to not be judgmental. Being non judgmental can be a difficult skill these days because we were raised or taught to have different thoughts and points of views (Brantley, 2007). ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Importance Of English Language 3.1 Introduction English is a language which can be traced back to the 5th century by migration and resettlement of its speakers into the different parts of the world. Beginning its foundation of the American colonies into Europe and into the 17th century with its establishment of the East India Company (Paranjpe Prasad, 2010). The 200 years of presence that English had in India left a huge impression on its language orientation. Both attitudinally and linguistically English has made its place into the new cultural environment and fresh communicative needs. Despite the government s support towards Hindi, the language inculcating the largest number of speakers under it compared to the other Indian Languages has not yet been able to take up the prestige that English holds in India. India s larger population is bilingual with proficiency in English. Today it has earned the privilege as the language of the world s developed countries, their technologies and economy (Paranjpe Prasad, 2010). It is the very reason that this language has caught the attention of the future generations irrespective of their home country to put English at the pedestal and give development of their native tongue a second place. The provision that English gives on the professional front is too strong as compared to any of the other languages in India. It has not only acquired a wide range of functions in the Indian society, but has also linguistically evolved its own characteristic features at the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Analysis Of One Flew Over The Cuckoo s Nest Karsen M. Rau Ms. Dilworth ENG4U 4th December 2015 The Subversion of Gender Roles in One Flew Over the Cuckoo s Nest In today s society, as well as in the past, men are typically placed in a position of power over women. Although gender equality is increasing, a more patriarchal society is considered to be the norm. However, in certain situations the gender roles that are played by men and women are reversed, and women hold most, if not all of the power. Such as in Ken Kesey s novel One Flew Over the Cuckoo s Nest, in this instance the ward is a very obvious matriarchy, where women rule over men and attempt to metaphorically castrate them. Throughout the text there are many examples of women, Nurse Ratched in particular, attempting to emasculate the patients on the ward. The ward is an extreme matriarchy, and the men hold little to no power, whereas the women are able to control and manipulate them with ease because of the reversal of roles. In many ways Nurse Ratched shames the men for their masculinity, although it is fairly standard male behavior. She makes them feel as if their virility is something to avoid and ultimately be ashamed of. The Nurse takes perfectly normal human behavior and twists it to be seen as something perverted and obscene. For example, when Billy Bibbit and Candy sleep together, the Nurse s reaction when she realizes this fact causes him to feel extreme shame and embarrassment. Oh, Billy Billy Billy I m so ashamed for you. (Kesey 314) ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Macomber Gender Roles Nobody truly wants to live alone in their lives, and many pursue marriage to secure those means. The problem is that the relationship requires more than simply two people coming together. Ultimately they bring out the darker parts of their nature and the insecurities they hide within. The short story The Short Happy Life of Francis Macomber by Ernest Hemingway depicts the struggles between people caused by their weaknesses, yet are built upon the inner workings of gender roles, and how losing their fears could have let them break away from their cycle. The story starts with the wife, Margot Macomber, trying to join the men, Francis and Wilson, in conversation but they both quickly kick her from her wants in the discussion. She leaves in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Her only means of empowering herself is by sleeping with Wilson. When she comes that night back he says to her you think that I ll take anything I know you will, sweet (12) because she feels that she can at least have power because of his weakness. She knows that she can t get even by doing her acts in plain sight because that would be disrupting the calm, complacency of a wife s place. She was smart enough to know that she won t be mistreated without at least standing up for herself. The story seems to make it clear that American Females have cruelty and that is why men take a domineering role to ensure they remain respectful . Wilson represents this sort of manly and domineering personality. He makes sure that he owns the situation when he says to Margot I say, you wouldn t like to drop my beauty as a topic, would you? and she says I ve just started it and just coyly responds with Let s chuck it (2). With just that being said it isn t overly disrespectful if he truly didn t want to talk about his beauty , but she complains about how conversation was difficult and he merely replies saying No difficulty, got a damn fine lion . She made it clear that she wasn t eager to talk about the damn fine lion , but he doesn t care nor does he care if she doesn t get to talk because that s not what the men were talking about. Wilson also gets annoyed when Margot cries about being excluded from their conversation and Wilson tells Francis ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 7. Friday Night Lights Movie Review Essay The movie Friday Night Lights is based on a book by author H.G. Bissinger. It takes place at Permian High School in Odessa, Texas in 1988 when tension between races was still strong in some areas of the south. There is a focus in some areas of the film having to do with the racial tension and ongoing conflict between the student body and the city as a whole. Even though desegregation had happened by the time the book was written and the film was made, schools sometimes were still racially divided. I also felt the movie showed how this football program exploited their black athletes. Of interest to me was, the following of two of the main football players who are black. Boobie Miles and Ivory Christian. They are as well respected as their white equivalents on the football field but, it illustrates how attitudes change when the players walk off the field. The movie touches on the many controversial subjects like, racism, hypocrisy, and failure where as the book is extremely socially oriented, and centered primarily on racial issues and educational priorities. The film touches on these issues, but, as I wrote, it is not the focal point of the movie. It appears that some of the scenes in the movie were actually filmed in the football stadium the Panther s played yet, other home games looked as if they had chosen another Texas stadium to film. Football is huge in Texas. While researching the truthfulness of the movie, I came to find that the local affiliate pre empted a Major ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

For example, I would complete my discussion posts a day before they were due or I would reflect on my postings with turning in the portfolio early. Because I turned assignments in on time or even early, I would evaluate my own work through comprehending the productions in a manageable amount of time. I also created a strategy to help me be successful. I would read the articles and the videos associated with the production before watching the show. This would help me understand the production better by the little details of the theme and character evaluations. I also would write notes for each production to help prepare for the discussion postings and quizzes. This helped me remember details of the show and for reviewing purposes before the quiz. • 11. The Art World Is A Forever Changing System The art world is a forever changing system, with new ideas and concepts constantly emerging. Marcel Duchamp, working in a world where art was focused heavily on pleasing the eye, is seen to emerge with a new idea that aimed to challenge this retinal approach that was expected of art during this time. Duchamp would call this new approach the readymade . This essay will discuss how Duchamp used the readymade, specifically his 1913 piece Bicycle Wheel, to move away from the focus on the visual and shift attention to a focus on the conceptual. Likewise, this essay will explore how Duchamp s readymade has influenced artists such as Jeff Koons, who similarly incorporated the conceptual focus of the readymade within his own 1981 87 readymade ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Duchamp is seen to use the word retinal as a means of critically referring to avant garde painting, as it was apparent to him that the modern artist was becoming too immersed in a focus of pleasing the viewer on a visual level, that they had neglected to stimulate the mind. As stated by Duchamp himself, he wanted to put painting again at the service of the mind , and thus his creation of the readymade emerged. The readymade consisted of a simple, unaltered, everyday object(s) that was presented as a work of art. Through the creation of the readymade, Duchamp undermined these pre determined aesthetic expectations of art as he started to exhibit his readymade pieces in high art exhibitions. From this point onwards, Duchamp s artistic approach was changed via his re development of common, everyday items and through the means of choosing and repositioning an object, Duchamp was able to transform an everyday item into a work of art. Thus, the readymade can be seen to be driven by Duchamp s interest in shifting attention away from the object itself, and instead refocusing this attention on the creative relationship that he recognised between the artist, the work, the world and the audience. Duchamp was strong in his belief that The creative act is not performed by the artist alone. The spectator brings the work into contact with the external world through interpretation . Duchamp s ... A Brief Note On The Country Of South Africa Geography Lesotho, from which the capital is Maseru, is located in southern Africa and is an enclave of South Africa (SA), sharing 909km of borders with its land locking neighbor. The terrain is mostly composed of highlands with plateaus, hills, and mountains; it is the only country in the world that has the totality of its land above 1000 meters. Arable land and permanent crops account for 10.27% of the land while the rest (89.72%) is mountainous. The surface area is 30,355 sq km; same size as Belgium, slightly smaller than Maryland. Therefore, almost one eighth of the GDP ( which was $2.457 billion in 2013, ranking 175 compared to the rest of the world) goes to health care. Interestingly, 90% of the population can read and write at the age of fifteen thanks to Lesotho being the country that spends the highest proportion of its GDP (13%) towards education in the world. Economics Lesotho relies heavily on SA: 90% of goods are imported and most Basotho (people living in Lesotho) are counting on remittance from family members working in mines, on farms and as domestic workers in SA. Only 20% of the food is produced locally, the rest is mostly imported from SA. Government incomes heavily rely on exchanges with SA through custom duties and royalties from water transfers. Energy In Lesotho, more than 75% of the population can be considered as energy poor, relying on inferior energy resources: biomass, i.e. wood, shrubs, dung, and crop residues. In rural areas, the proportion of biomass usage for energy needs goes up to 90%. They come from different worlds yet balance each other out in the best ways possible. A main concern explored throughout the novel is the difference between Jacob and Josie. Throughout the novel, individuals who play an important role in Josie s life point out that Jacob isn t her type. Both are shocked to find each other attractive, yet they both inspire each other. They both mutually understand there s more than meets the eye. Jacob is special to Josie, they come from the same class and Josie learns to get rid of bias of identity with his help and better to answer the question of who she really is. • 16. Persuasive Speech On Apprenticeships Pros And Cons Hello from western North Dakota. I hope this un seasonably warm fall has found everyone in good spirits, and that we don t wind up paying for it down the road. I haven t seen any frost teeth out there yet, so I consider that a good sign! I hope everyone has been paying attention to the recent boost in emphasis on education in North Dakota, because in it may exist the ability to help foster interest in our apprenticeships, and ultimately an increased interest in hiring our employers. Both of those, certainly are big positives. Fueled by a large, bipartisan Congressional effort, the US Department of Labor awarded a $200,000 apprenticeship grant to North Dakota Job Service in early June. Following that award over the summer, the North Dakota Department of Commerce hosted a series of apprenticeship accelerator meetings around the state, in an effort to increase the amount of registered apprenticeships. In cooperation with the Dept. of Labor, representatives of the ND Department of Commerce and ND Job Service distributed specific instructions and maintain an open link on their websites, in an effort to help private employers develop their own apprenticeship programs. While it would certainly be a good thing if the general public became aware, and hopefully accepting, of the benefits that apprenticeships can provide, this recent fanfare may only serve to obscure the differences between registered and joint programs. I believe that we may be able to capitalize on ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

All of these things were found by the Japanese to be incredibly rude and insulting and they took the Europeans for barbarians. On the other hand, it was the Europeans who looked upon the Japanese as backwards in their thinking. There were incredibly complex aspects of the country. Samurais were known to test their swords on criminals by chopping their bodies to bits; casual violence was no need for alarm here. There were subtle things like how they wore long strips of silk draped around their bodies held only in place by a knotted rope; they tweezed the hairs from their faces and wore their hair in oily buns on the tops of their heads. All of these differences could have very well been the negative road block that would have stopped all progress in the relations between the two civilisations. Alessandro Valignano was quick to recognise this potential disaster. He ordered that his Jesuits live like natives to create harmony and understanding. He wrote a manual for them to follow with all the behaviours this foreign country was built upon. He also encouraged them to think and behave as though they were Japanese, to act with dignity and stoic decorum . Matisyahu is only praising God; he says, without [God] there s no me, you re the air that I breathe, for example. Matisyahu touches the boy on the shoulder and, it is as though the boy has reached a sort of enlightenment. This is symbolized by the immortalization of the boy s portrait on the high, wooden fence behind them, which had previously shown a video of Matisyahu performing the song. The science behind why that happens all narrows down to the complex human brain. The human brain is separated into different sections. (Frontal lobe, cerebellum, etc.) One of the most important parts of our brain is the Limbic System. The Limbic System is responsible for controlling the emotions that you may feel in a situation. For example, if you see a child fall off his bike, you may feel sympathy for him/her since you once fell off of your bike. Now, let s not get too scientific! To boil down a detailed science, your emotions are also involved in the thinking process while you read. You may make connections to the character, or have your own opinion on the events that occur throughout the book. This is part of the reason you may find a character to be intriguing. Much of what the public knows about the maltreatment of these creatures comes from a documentary released in 2013 called Blackfish . For entertainment purposes, SeaWorld separates pods and places calves with different mothers to create the most convenient pod to display in shows (Cowperthwaite). Though they deny it, they attempt to play God by mixing and matching orcas to create new families, all for the purpose of show business. Walt Disney World in Orlando has implemented a hand scanning system to prevent people from ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The technology is many years away from development. Blood pulses on a finger can be measured by new biometric systems. This technology is currently under development. Nail bed identification is based on identifying distinct spatial arrangement beneath the fingernail. Gait recognition is another technology which is under development. This recognizes individuals by their distinctive walk and captures a sequence of images to derive and analyze motion characteristics. The technology is currently under development and its complete potential and limitations can be fully assessed. Many biometric identification systems are being developed and tested (Woodward, 2005). Biometric technologies are getting better and finely tuned. The rate of false readings and errors has sharply fallen. However it still requires careful consideration and planning to implement a biometric identification system. They are most costly and complicated to implement as compared with other authentication systems. A proper evaluation of the system is important before purchasing any biometric system. A thorough risk analysis is necessary. In many cases biometrics may be overkill. Biometrics must be used if there is high level of risk involved. Customer acceptance is also important when logging on to company websites. Home users might not be ready to install biometrics on home computers for online banking. Another consideration is where the digital data and templates will be stored. The ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 33. Depreciation and Vital Spark New Economy Transport (A) p. 182The New Economy Transport Company (NETCO) was formed in 1955 to carry cargo and passengers between ports in the Pacific Northwest and Alaska. By 2008 its fleet had grown to four vessels, including a small dry cargo vessel, the Vital Spark. The Vital Spark is 25 years old and badly in need of an overhaul. Peter Handy, the finance director, has just been presented with a proposal that would require the following expenditures: Mr. Handy believes that all these outlays could be depreciated for tax purposes in the seven year MACRS class. NETCO s chief engineer, McPhail, estimates the postoverhaul operating costs as follows: These costs generally increase with inflation, which is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This is a nominal, not a real, rate. NETCO s tax rate is 35%. QUESTION 1. Calculate the NPV of the proposed overhaul of the Vital Spark, with and without the new engine and control system. To do the calculation, you will have to prepare a spreadsheet table showing all costs after taxes over the vessel s remaining economic life. Take special care with your assumptions about depreciation tax shields and inflation. New Economy Transport (B) There is no question that the Vital Spark needs an overhaul soon. However, Mr. Handy feels it unwise to proceed without also considering the purchase of a new vessel. Cohn and Doyle, Inc., a Wisconsin shipyard, has approached NETCO with a design incorporating a Kort nozzle, extensively automated navigation and power control systems, and much more comfortable accommodations for the crew. Estimated annual operating costs of the new vessel are: The crew would require additional training to handle the new vessel s more complex and sophisticated equipment. Training would probably cost $50,000 next year. The estimated operating costs for the new vessel assume that it would be operated in the same way as the Vital Spark. However, the new vessel should be able to handle a larger load on some routes, which could generate additional revenues, net of additional out of pocket costs, of as much as $100,000 per year. Moreover, a new vessel would have a useful service life of 20 years or more. Cohn and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
