Explain The Biochemical Approach To Alcoholism
Alcoholism is also called as alcohol use disorder. It refers to the consumption of alcohol resulting in
problems. It is divided into two types: abuse of alcohol and dependence on alcohol. In medical
perspective, alcoholism is said to exist in a person, when two or more of the following conditions is
present.
person drinking large amounts of alcohol over prolonged period
difficulty in cutting down drinking
purchasing and consumption of alcohol takes up lot of time
desire for alcohol is very high
alcohol consumption resulting in not completing responsibilities

It can also be used to achieve long term sobriety than traditional treatment.
Though, it is not as simple as taking herbs, vitamins or natural remedies and curing your alcoholic
disorder for good. It involves a mixture of complex factors that help to heal brain chemistry. It also
involves making a drastic change in person s diet, lifestyle and belief system.
The Biochemical Approach
With this approach to alcoholism the causes are believed to be determined by body chemistry.
According to the biochemical approach it is believed that you are either born with certain biochemical
vulnerabilities or develop them later. Therefore, recovery has to use natural cures as it is address
healing at the biochemical level.
Alcoholism is a result of imbalanced neurotransmitters in the brain. They cause deficiencies in
nutrients, poor diet, allergy, hypoglycemia, environmental toxins, genetics, chronic stress and brain
trauma.
The goal of this method is to restore balance in the neurotransmitters and to repair the brain chemistry.
When this can be done, the cravings for alcohol, and any other addictive substances will disappear.
After this, staying sober will no longer be a

The And Of The Forest
In investigation 1, the data points are very clustered from the height of 150cm to the height of 300cm.
This makes sense as saplings are defined as young trees that are taller than 1.35m above the forest
floor. So between 150cm and 300cm is most likely average height which would be the majority of the
population. The overall data set of investigation 1 is alot more spread out than the compact data set of
investigation 2. On the other hand, in investigation 2 all the data points are overlapping and in line
with the regression line, up to a height of 600cm where there is few data points, indicating that the
majority of saplings taken in this sample are young and planted for regeneration of the forest purposes.
In both cases there is a positive relationship between the two sets of variables. In investigation one, as
H of a sapling increases, the DBH tends to increase. This would make sense because as the sapling
grows up, it subsequently grows in diameter because it manufactures new cells around its
circumference which increase the diameter at breast height in order to maintain and support the weight
of the growing height. On the graph there appears to be some unusal feature s where the height of the
Sapling is approx 450cm however the DBH of just below 10cm is alot lower than the other saplings of
the sample population that have a height of 450cm. It is possible that some sapling trees, like this one,
are alot thinner and taller. This could be caused by a mutation. However

Use Of Paralanguage And Kinesics In Everyday Life Essay
Use of Paralanguage and Kinesics in Everyday Life nbsp; nbsp; nbsp; nbsp; nbsp; The use of kinesics
and paralanguage in everyday life is the most prominent use of persuasion we use subconsciously.
They are used subconsciously because you may not know what they mean. Which can cause cultural
tension if you do something that may seem harmless to you but may be a great insult to another
culture. Paralanguage has many forms such as whistling which can be used by many people as a
means of entertaining by whistling a song or even in American culture used to hound women on the
streets because they appear to be attractive. These two uses of persuasion I will discuss about in my
paper. I will discuss the history of both and also how they are ... Show more content on

The four basic kinds are: approach, withdrawal, expansion, and contraction. Approach referred to such
things as attention, interest, scrutiny, and curiosity. Withdrawal involved drawing back or turning
away, refusal, repulsion, and disgust. Expansion referred to the expanded chest, erect trunk and head,
and raised shoulders, which conveyed pride, conceit, arrogance, disdain, mastery, and self esteem.
Contraction was characterized by forward trunk, bowed head, drooping shoulders, and sunken chest.
Studies have identified postural behavior with personality types and ways of life, for example
relaxation, assertiveness, and restraint; and have noted the correlation of certain kinds of movement in
sleeping and waking acts. Posture is a substantial marker of feminine and masculine behavior. The
relationship of posture to sex gestures is obvious in the stereotypes in U.S. advertising. Posture is an
indicator of status and rank and is also a marker of etiquette. In a study of Roman sculpture and
coinage, Brilliant demonstrates that posture identifies the noble and the peasant. In Western culture
one was taught to stand when an elderly person enters the room. nbsp; nbsp; nbsp; nbsp; nbsp; The
face seems to be the most obvious component of body language, but it is certainly the most confusing

Model of Addiction Debate
I. Introduction
a. Medical model of addiction
b. The medical model of addiction states that addiction manifests itself as a result of genetic
predisposition thus; addiction is a coercion which is beyond the control of the addict. Besides,
addiction follows a long lasting course of retardation and relapse. Nevertheless, to manage the chronic
disease, it requires effective management of both behavioral and medical interventions (Heyman,
2013).
c. According to Heyman (2013), the moral model of addiction was part of the medical model of
addiction whereby addiction was perceived as a challenge for individuals with weak moral values.

William Byrd Influences
If you were asked to name an influential person in history, who would you immediately think of?
Most likely, the person is or was a politician, businessman, writer, etc. You most likely did not think of
a musician. We, as a society, under appreciate the work of great musicians of our time as well as past
times. For example, William Byrd was an extremely influential musician who lived from 1538 1623.
He is responsible for choir pieces consisting of four (or more) voice parts. Throughout his lifetime, he
made many uncertain opportunities. William Byrd beneficially impacted his society through the risks
he took in his music.

William wrote over 120 pieces, including sonnets, madrigals, and other secular works (William).
William is best known for his development of the English madrigal. (Britannica) A madrigal is a
choral piece for two to four people. In his song, Ave Verum Corpus , we can clearly hear this use of
many choral voices. In fact, this effect can be found in a almost all of William s works. He took large
risks by using two, three, four, or even more voices to blend perfect harmonies and use alternating
melodies. The result is beautiful music that would be used, even today, by countless others. On aspect
of his music is the joining of high and low voices. There are areas in his music where the low voices
sing but the high voices do not and vice versa. Then, William does a splendid job of blending them
together, using the differing pitches of the singers to compliment each others voices. The result is a
full sound that is not too muddy and low, yet not too high and pitchy. His songs were almost always in
Latin wording, including the constant use of the phrase Agnus Dei or Lamb of God . If listening very
closely, one might be able to hear this phrase repeated in many of the works provided by William.
Byrd also released a collection of madrigals that became very popular (William).William also jumped
for any opportunity he could get his hands on; for example, William majorly contributed in the making

Christ The Rock Church Analysis
If you were not aware of the recent news from the Fox Valley, Christ The Rock Church s much loved
and respected founder, Bill Lenz, surcame to the depression he had been battling against for several
months. While such news still pains me, there is still that analytical part of me that remains ensconced
and seemingly irremovable from years of dealing with hundreds of such events; both professionally
and privately. Being one who has survived that type of feeling of hopelessness further emboldens that
mindset. I come as one who knows what it is like to sit alone in one s patrol car, empowered with the
full authority (and arguably, more) of the State at their disposal, yet feeling powerless against the
forces set against them. I experienced the feel the muzzle of one s service weapon against their temple

We are often quick willing to eulogize and memorialize our departed comrades and loved ones and in
many cases, rightly so when all that they seem to have fails to keep them back from taking their own
lives. Yet, we are often lax or hesitant to call out that what they did was not right, was not the answer,
was not the solution, but was the act that now devastates those of us that were closest to them. With
great empathy and sympathy, we affirm or at least acquiesce memorials and tributes to them even
justify the result to ourselves with at least they are at peace now. We support our teens when they build
shrines or hold dances to honor the memory of one of their friends that have fallen to this curse, yet
we hold back on hurting their feelings by addressing the darker reality of what has happened.
Consequently, when we see incidents of copycatting by others who are battling this demon and, we are

Comparing Two Approaches to Cognitive Psychology
Cognitive psychology is concerned with the internal processes involved in making sense of the
environment and deciding what action may be appropriate. These processes include attention,
perception, learning and reasoning, (Eysenck and Keane, 2010).There are a number of approaches
which can be used within this field, however for the purposes of the essay only two will be compared;
cognitive neuroscience and neuropsychology. The aims of cognitive neuroscientists are often similar
to those of cognitive psychologists; they are both interested in the brain and cognition, (Medin and
Ross, 1996). Nevertheless, it could be argued that there are also some fundamental differences
between the two approaches, especially in the research methods ... Show more content on

In contrast, a technique favoured by cognitive neuropsychologists is neurological case studies. These
are reports on individuals who have suffered damage to the nervous system. Researchers can observe
the behaviour of participants and interpret how this has been affected by their brain injury. However,
the conclusions that can be taken from such studies are also limited, especially when they involve a
single subject, (Payne and Wenger, 1982).
These procedures involved in cognitive neuroscience require high levels of control, therefore are
usually conducted in a laboratory setting, thus producing quantitative data that can be easily analysed,
(Eysenck and Keane, 2010). Nevertheless, the techniques vary in the precision with which they
identify the brain areas active when a task is performed (spatial resolution), and the time course of
such activation (temporal resolution). Therefore, several procedures often need to be combined to
compensate for limitations, (Sternberg and Wagner, 1999).
Despite the fact that cognitive neuropsychology can be less scientific in areas, it also deals with
dissociation and double dissociation. The existence of this can help to suggest the specific parts of the
brain that are impaired, thus supporting the understanding of

Good Country People Wise
Books may teach us many lessons, but real life experience is what makes people wise. Being smart is
not the same as being wise. A person can be smart, he or she can have many degrees and diplomas, but
unless he or she have experience life, they will not be wise. Flannery O Connor s Good Country
People shows that people can be well educated and not be wise. Joy and Mrs. Hopewell think that they
have the world figured out, but when they encounter Manley Pointer, a simple country boy , they will
finally see the world as it is: manipulative and more complex than they ever imagine. Mrs. Hopewell
believes she is wise by being so accepting of others, but she does not realise that she is neglecting the
person that needs her acceptance the most, Joy. Joy thinks she is wise and smart for attending college.
She looks down with disdain at other people but what she does not realise is that she might be smart
but she is not wise. Both Mrs. Hopewell and Joy are tricked by Manley Pointer, the bible salesman,
due to their extreme blindness to their surroundings. Even though Mrs. Hopewell loves her daughter,
she is blind to Joy s need for acceptance. Mrs. Hopewell does not understand that Joy is content with
the way she is, therefore Mrs. Hopewell is alway trying to get Joy to smile and be pleasant. This gets

Comparing Godwin And Wolstonecraft-Wollstonecraft
This contingency was not unique to Goethe; rather, it continued to shape Romanticism as it spread
through England and Europe from the 1790 s to Queen Victoria s ascension in 1837. The works of the
Godwin Wollstonecraft Shelley family particularly espouse the correlation between children,
education, and women. William Godwin s treatise Enquiry on Political Justice (1793) outlines a theory
of education that illustrates the Romantic fascination with children; like Rousseau, Godwin claims that
children are naturally predisposed to good or are a sort of raw material put into [parents] hands, a
ductile and yielding substance (36 7). Further following Rousseau s example, Godwin places the
potential for moral and political regeneration with children, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Whereas Godwin and Wollstonecraft s work only possess traces of the eternal feminine, Shelley
shares Goethe s fascination with the Gothic and the sublime. In Frankenstein, Victor Frankenstein s
cousin and fiancée Elizabeth combines Charlotte and Gretchen into one character. Like Charlotte, the
deaths of her maternal influences force Elizabeth to become a surrogate mother to her young cousin
William. Victor also idealizes Elizabeth in the way Werther worships Charlotte, describing how, Since
the death of her aunt . . . she felt that the most imperious duty of rendering her uncle and cousins
happy, had devolved upon her (2). Here, Elizabeth adheres to Goethe s vision of the virtuous mother
who wholly devotes herself to her children and family. Although Elizabeth possesses Charlotte s moral
purity, her tragic death aligns with Gretchen s fate. Like Gretchen, Elizabeth fails as a mother when
Victor s monster murders her surrogate son, William. While the monster kills Elizabeth to spite Victor,
her death establishes a correlation between her life and status as a mother; if Elizabeth cannot protect
or help her children, she possesses no value as an individual. She simply becomes a disposable prop

A Stitch in Time Essay
Quilting has different meanings for different people, but all quilts have a unique appearance and
tradition. What makes art is its life pulsing and shining with the energy and intentions of its creator.
The art of quilting glows with a respect for all generations that have come before putting thread,
needle, and cloth together with vision and love (Wilson 7). Starting out in antiquity as a necessity and
a work of art, quilting has changed over time, but it is still practiced in a myriad of cultures around the
world. Although there are many types of quilting, there are three common types identified as whole
cloth, piecing, and appliqué. The whole cloth technique uses only one piece of white fabric for the top

Since the modern word quilt is derived from the Latin word culcitra, it is reasonable to assume that
Romans who spoke Latin used quilted blankets. However, it was not until A.D. 1095 that Europeans
gained undeviating access to the technologies of Asia and Africa, and the process of quilting became
standard in Western Europe. Through their attack on Palestine, knights from England, France, and
Italy were introduced to the Palestinians light armor made of tough quilted jackets covered with chain
mail, flexible armor made of metal links (Wilson 16 17). Quilting was introduced to America when the
first settlers came in the Fifteenth Century. The first records of quilts in what would become the
United States come from wills and estate papers of the 1600 s. The oldest surviving American quilt is
probably the Saltonstall quilt, made around 1704 (Breneman and Laurette). Many cultures have come
together in the United States to include, for example, such world noted quilt styles as Mexican
American, African American, and Amish. It is not known exactly when the first pioneer woman
introduced her quilting to the Spanish American settlers, but star quilt patterns became an element of
Spanish American women s weaving quite early. Fabric became more available in the 1800 s when the
railroad arrived. Women found that they could make warm bed coverings much faster than weaving by
sewing together scraps of fabric with an old blanket, with wool or cotton as filling.

The Emperor s New Clothes, By Chris Argyris Essay
The article, Empowerment: The Emperor s New Clothes, by Chris Argyris, is provocative to
proponents of empowerment, and challenges many of the ideas espoused by our text. The article states
that, in order for empowerment to be successful, commitment to it must be internalized, which,
according to the author, is very difficult to achieve. Additionally, advocates of empowerment, i.e.
managers and change professionals, are often the main impediment to the successful implementation
of employee empowerment.
Both our text and the article describe basically the same process and problems, just with a different
emphasis. The book has a unicorn and rainbows approach where, if certain steps are taken, the end
result of empowerment will naturally occur. The article, on the other hand, focuses on the potential
problems associated with implementation and acts as a reality check. I think the issue of defining
external versus internal commitment is the biggest difference between the text and the article. External
commitment, where goals, tasks, and performance metrics are defined by management (Argyris, 1998)
equates to the traditional style of management in the text (Goetsch, 2016). Internal commitment,
where individuals and teams define goals, tasks, and performance metrics (Argyris, 1998) simply
comes along with empowerment in the text (Goetsch, 2016).
Empowerment, as described in the text, is simply a model. Models, like plans, rarely survive contact
with the enemy, or in this case, the

Building the Brand: Southwest Airlines is well known as a Texas based company that has a human
side and a down home attitude. Because of its large size, Southwest Airlines uses a variety of larger
promotional methods, such as national advertisements and strong public relations to promote an image
of a fun LUVing brand. But, flight crews are the closest interactions that a customer has with the
product, budget flights, which are a simple, undistinguished product. The quirky commercials and
cheap flights appeal to a target market that is budget conscious but still enjoys the fun side of life. The
flight crews bridge the gap between the fun, unique commercials and the actual flight experience. By
interacting with customers and joking around with passengers, they are able to grow customer
allegiance in this market by acting in the same way that the brand has tried to portray itself.
Engaging the target market: Southwest Airlines attracts both budget conscious customers and those

California s Gas Prices Overpriced California since the gold rush has been known as the Golden State

population ever increasing so are gas prices. Allysia Finley an editorial writer from The Wall Street

Jennifer L. Brown author of The Market Effects of Going Green states, Additionally, trends in industry
concentrations during the time period reformulated gasoline regulation compliance appear to have
favored large refiners as small refiner market share decreased and industry concentration increased
simultaneously from 1997 to 1999 (Brown 126). Meaning that regulations in California can be visible

Multiple solutions to California s problem have a rise in order to prevent a long run effect or a market
failure. For instance, Tom Steyer a billionaire environmentalist has proposed an oil extraction tax.
However, adding another tax can lead into two directions. First, if it becomes a corrective tax to
corporations it can correct their actions, and take account of the social cost. Which leads to low prices
for consumers, and at the same time protect the environment because the seller will have the incentive
to reduce low pollution. Or it can create

Robin Hood Creed Quotes
Robin Hood Essay There is a legend that contains an outlaw named Robin Hood, who is also mainly
known for his skill in archery. In the movie, The Adventures of Robin Hood (1938), he leads a group
of people named the Merry Men, who are all outlaws. They fight to steal from the rich and give the

they are more like knights in the eyes of the Saxons. They follow their own code that is similar to the
Knightly Code. They act upon the creed they swore upon, remembering that they must defend the
weak, grant mercy to enemies, and deal honorably with opponents in battle. One knightly code that the

averaged 22.7. When these drop counts were converted to mL, the results were 1.566 mL of NaCl on
the penny, 1.143 H₂O on the penny, 0.527 mL of ethanol on the penny, and 0.413 mL of soap on the

This is a very strong type of intermolecular force, which results in a high boiling point and a lot of
surface tension. H₂O has the second highest amount of substance on the penny because H₂O consists
of hydrogen bonds, which are very strong but not as strong as ion dipole bonds. This is why H₂O had a
lot of surface tension, but slightly less than NaCl. Ethanol had the third most amount of substance on
the penny, and this is because ethanol also has hydrogen bonds like H₂O, but because ethanol is a a
bigger molecule there are less bonds, and therefore less surface tension. Soapy water had the least
amount of substance on the penny, and this is because soap molecules have hydrophobic ends, so
when they are mixed with water molecules, they break the surface tension created by the strong
hydrogen bonds. The impact of the intermolecular forces: hydrogen bonds, London Dispersion Forces,
dipole dipole attraction, and ion dipole attraction were investigated in this lab, and it was determined
that ion dipole attraction results in the greatest amount of surface tension, followed by hydrogen
bonds, dipole dipole attractions, and London Dispersion

Essay On Footwork In Volleyball
On the whole; volleyball can be very difficult, one thing that makes it so hard is passing. There are
two ways to pass; the fore arm pass also known as the bump, and the set. A bump is when the player
sticks out their arms with their forearms to the sky. This creates a flat surface for the ball to land on
and bump up. As the ball is approaching the player they get lower to the ground like a squat and raise
themselves as they contact the ball. The set is when the player raises their hands and creates a
diamond with their index fingers and thumbs. The rest of the fingers are spread out to cover more
space on the ball. It is very light with little to no rotation, the set is hard to do but when it is perfected;
it helps the game greatly. Foot work and the position of the ball helps a lot too. Footwork helps in
getting the ball up in the air for the setter to do their job and keep the game going. Footwork is a
necessary part in volleyball. Ball placement is also very important ... Show more content on

If the player is not at the right place at the right time, the ball is going to hit the court. A very
important element for positioning is footwork. Without proper footwork, the game known as
volleyball would be very difficult. The player needs to have quick feet and know where to step and
when. Speed is also very important; volleyball has a lot of movement to it. Moving up to the net and
then moving back to hit, then moving up and back repeat. To do it right, speed is very important to
have. Awareness on the court is necessary, the players need to know who is where and where is the
ball. Without awareness the player runs the risk of getting hit by the ball and losing the game for the
team. Finally, the last aspect to positioning is quick thinking. The player needs to know where to hit
the ball and which way to pass very fast. Also setters need to know who to set in order to get a good
hit for the

A Comparative Analysis of the Concepts of Science and...
Nathaniel Hawthorne s The Birthmark and Rappaccini s Daughter both address the concepts of
science and nature and the conflicts that the two typically generate. The protagonists in both stories
feel that it is essential for them to do something in order to improve the persons they love. Moreover,
they appear to consider that they actually want to help the persons they love instead of actually
helping themselves by doing so. The women in the two stories focus on being as good as they can
possibly be in order for their lovers to appreciate them, but these men want science to interfere and
remove any type of problems that they discover in the women that they love. Aylmer, the protagonist
in The Birthmark was a successful scientist and philosopher previous to marrying Georgiana, as he
preferred to abandon his background in order to provide his wife with everything she needed in order
to feel loved. Science actually seemed to be worth nothing when compared to Georgiana, and even
though Aylmer paid great respect to his background, he would rather focus on his wife. His love for
his young wife might prove the stronger of the two; but it could only be by intertwining itself with his
love of science, and uniting the strength of the latter to his own (Hawthrone). While it seems that
Aylmer is happy with his condition consequent to marrying Georgiana, it is gradually revealed that he
is unable to abandon his love for science. He encounters a significant problem as he comes

The Day After Roswell By Philip J. Corso
No child had such an oversized balloon shaped head. It didn t even look human, although it had
human like features (18). This is a description of an extraterrestrial from the Roswell incident in the
book The Day After Roswell written by Col. Philip J. Corso (Ret.) with WIlliam J. Birnes. This book
is quite the interesting read to say the least. Extraterrestrials, flying saucers, and foreign technology
are some of the complications in Corso s autobiography during his time in military intelligence
working at The Pentagon. Corso describes everything between the events of a flying saucer crash that
occurred in Roswell, NM. on July 4, 1947 to the modern day technology that the United States has
managed to reverse engineer due to the crash. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He was head of the project. Corso was diving much deeper than just the surface of a U.F.O. conspiracy
theory. If anyone s story should be believed it should be Corso s. It is easy to dismiss many of the
eyewitness reports, as after a while everyone was an eyewitness just to get some fame. Corso actually
worked on the project in The Pentagon. Many people believe this story is too outlandish to believe.
This is the strategy that The Foreign Technology Desk decided to go for. Between the time of the
Roswell crash and the beginning of The Foreign Technology Desk, the Air Force had branched off
from the Army, taking artifacts with it. This added another layer to difficulty to keeping the story
secret. At first, the military blew off the Roswell crash as a weather balloon and threatened majority of
the eye witnesses. This had kept them quiet for a while but people eventually talk. The military
decided to stop covering it up and would leak little bits of information to people who would make
something out of it. Corso states, This was called camouflage with limited exposure (85). This was in
order to make the talking witnesses to look like nut jobs. If they denied it like it was nothing, then the
media thought it was nothing. Eventually tabloids would buy the stories and then the credibility was
lost. This built an alien

Endogenous DNA Damage
Since the DNA structure was discovered more than 50 years ago, the mechanisms how genetic
information encoded by DNA was preserved and how the integrity of transmission in between
generations was maintained have been one of the top questions kept being asked. It has been well
accepted that the integrity of human genome is maintained by mechanisms to protect DNA from
damage either generated spontaneously during endogenous DNA biogenesis including replication or
transcription or induced by exogenous environmental factors (Ciccia and Elledge, 2010; Jackson and
Bartek, 2009; Lord and Ashworth, 2012).
Endogenous DNA damage can be due to alterations of DNA during replication, transcription, or other
process of DNA biogenesis at different rates. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Failure of overcoming such lesions will cause chromosome duplication failure and may lead to mitotic
catastrophe, complex chromosomal rearrangements, and tumorigenesis. Multiple mechanisms are
developed by the cells to sense and respond to such type of lesions. In replication fork stalling, the cell
senses the lesion with replication protein A as well as its downstream factors. At the same time, the
Fanconi Anemia proteins facilitates the interstrand crosslinking lesions (see next section, 1.3.2).
Particularly, FANCM, together with its binding partners MHFs and FAAP24, will facilitate the
activation of ATR/CHK1 signaling pathway for further repair. After proper responses to the replication
stresses, the stalled or collapsed replication forks will be restarted (Collis et al., 2008; Wang et al.,
2013). Under certain circumstances, single strand DNA gaps will remain on the DNA strand even
though the stalled replication forks are successfully overcome, in which a DNA clamp, proliferating
cell nuclear antigen (PCNA), and other proteins will function in a postreplication repair to further fix
the damages left (Tian et al.,

Compare And Contrast Old Major And Joseph In Animal Farm
Animal Farm Essay
A swift crinkle echoes throughout the room. To gain knowledge, to create in depth thinking, to relax,
the individual reads the Bible. Including sixty six books, written over a period of 1,500 years, selling
over 1,000,000,000 copies, the Bible became the best selling book, in the world. The popular book
influences many works of literature. George Orwell s novel, Animal Farm, contains parallels, to
thirteen chapters, of the first book of the Bible, Genesis. Genesis, chapters thirty seven through fifty,
tells the story of Joseph. The two characters, Old Major and Joseph, posses multiple similarities. Both
Old Major and Joseph use their dreams, as a foreshadowing, of the future. In the book of Genesis,
Joseph is made famous for describing his own dreams, along with the dreams of others. The Egyptian
Pharaoh states, I had a dream...I have heard it said of you...when you hear a dream you can interpret it
(Genesis 41:15). The Pharaoh s sleeping mind allows Joseph to work his magic, his God given gift of
interpretation. Joseph is well respected. Joseph is insightful. Joseph is wise. Old Major is well
respected. Old Major is insightful. Old Major is wise. All the animals are eagerly awaiting to hear his
dream. Old Major brought forth a propering concept of the future, which later became reality. There,
comrades, is the answer to our problems (7). Old Major spread the predictions and plans, for the
future, Joseph told the dreams and truths, of the future. Their

Mindfulness And Cognitive Flexibilities
There have been many researchers that look into the influence of mindfulness on cognitive flexibilities
and how it can be a huge influence on how we process information. Mindfulness is seen as relaxation
and this can help improve cognitive abilities. Current research from Chiesa Malinowski (2011) has
looked at how ancient Buddhist meditation can help reduce stress and help participants with their
cognitive abilities as well as their mood. They looked at this by using various types of meditation and
therapy sessions and found that there was a huge difference in the way mindfulness helped improve
cognition and mood as it had increased their ability to be more aware as well as improving their mood.
This is one of the influences for our study

Unexpectedly Important Characters in House of the Spirits...
Isabel Allende in House of the Spirits portrayed many seemingly minor characters that ended up
having a greater role than expected. One of the unexpected characters was Alba. Despite the fact that
Alba was not born until chapter nine, she played a significant role in the plot of the story and character
dynamics of the Trueba family and other strong men and women. This then lead to the fact that
Allende built up powerful and outspoken personalities to ultimately create one strong character, Alba,
who finished the novel with a shocking and hopeful ending. Alba was brought into the world as a
beautiful baby, with good astrological fortune. In her first hours, she already had traits that resembled
her to two strong minded characters, Rosa ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
So as eccentric as Alba s living conditions already were, things get even more unusual when she began
to undergo Nicholas s weekly teachings of pain induration. Her uncle helped her think of all these
things without crying, and taught her to relax and not resist the pain so that it would pass through her
without stopping (Page 274). Little Alba, who worked hard for her uncle s appreciation participated
and cooperated through all his activities. If she managed to get through ... all the tests Nicholas
imposed, she won a prize (Page 274). While held captive by Esteban Garcia and the Security Police
this ability helped her withstand the suffering. Alba inherited Nicholas s quality of endurance and self
dignity that helped her survive The Terror . Jaime provided Alba with a vast knowledge of medicine
and the human anatomy through his revealing books. This knowledge of the human body surprised
Esteban Garcia when [he] took her hand and placed it on his stiffened sex [and she replied] [y]our
penis (Page 286). Jaime also taught Alba to do as she pleased, and not what pleased others. This then
helped her remain loyal to what she thought was right during all that she overcame. A strong minded
character that made a significant appearance in the novel was Amanda. Amanda was introduced as
Nicholas s girlfriend, who believed in the freedom of pleasure (Page 216 and 222). They encouraged
his [Nicholas] love for her (Page 220). Jaime fell in love with her at first

Heart Rate Case Study
Are all of the RR intervals the same? Why?
No, not all of the RR are the same, because every time I breath in, my heart rate changes which it
affects the distance between the two RR intervals.
Compare heart rate by counting to heart rate by measuring. Which is more accurate?
By counting, I got 84 BPM yet when I physically measure by heart rate, I got 86 BPM. There was a
different of 3 BPM. by measuring the graph has more accuracy; however, one needs to sit for 60
seconds in order to get the most accurately heart rate.
How did you decide where to place the SA Node and AV Node?

and the AV node is the one that ends the start, which means that it must occur after the P wave. ...

Systole occurs when the heart contracts and pumps blood from the chambers into the arteries. In this
case, it s the distance between the Q wave and the T wave. While the diastole is when the heart muscle
relaxes and allows the chambers to fill with blood. Likewise, the diastole is the distance between the
end of the T wave to the beginning of the Q wave. Moreover, the arterial pressure indicates an average
pressure in a patient s arteries during one cardiac cycle. So for this one, it must be the distance
between one wave to the next wave.

agency workers expecting cost reductions but little is known the relationship between hiring
temporary agency workers and the productivity of user s firm. The research question of this article is
the effect of temporary agency work on the firms productivity. Researchers assume that they can
increase productivity while using temporary agency work to improve and select job creation, but
hypothesize that low specific human capital and spillover effects of temporary workers can have an
adverse effect on productivity. The dependent variable is and the independent variable is ~. To

Essay On Duke Ellington
Duke Ellington: 1899 1974 Edward Duke Kennedy Ellington was born April 29, 1899 in Washington,
D.C. Duke Ellington was born into a typical family with average income and growing up, the future
musician was home schooled by his parents. His father James Edward Ellington and mother Daisy
Kennedy Ellington were both pianist. His father played operatic arias while parlor songs were his
mother s first choice. It is an interesting fact that Duke is not actually Ellington s name, but it is only
his nickname, which children gave him when he was a little boy for his aristocratic manners and the
ability to dress elegant things. When Duke was seven years old, he began his piano training and took
lessons from Marietta Clinkscales. (Ruhlmann) Duke ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Ellington s band thrived and played all throughout Washington and Virginia, usually playing for
embassy and private parties. His band included Sonny Greer on drums, his childhood friend Otto
Hardwick on alto saxophone, Elmer Snowden on banjo and Arthur Whetsol on trumpet. The group
performed for both African American and white audiences which was quite rare in those times. When
Ellington s drummer Sonny Greer joined the Wilber Sweatman Orchestra in New York City, he
decided to leave behind his successful career in Washington, D.C and moved to Harlem. Shortly after
his move to Harlem, in May of 1927, Andy Preer who had been leading the house band at the Cotton
Club died. In looking for a replacement, the gig went to Duke Ellington and his men. The clubs decor
was modelled after the old south of plantations and slavery, hence the name the Cotton Club . The club
was segregated, meaning only whites were allowed in the audience, while all the waiters and
entertainers were African American. What made Duke Ellington and his Cotton Club Orchestra
famous were the weekly broadcasts on radio station WHN. (Cotton) These broadcasts were heard all
over the country and gave Ellington national exposure. With the Great Depression worsening, the
recording industry too was hit by the financial crisis and that resulted into dropping of over 90% of
artist by the year 1933. (Ruhlmann) In the case of

Chapter Summary Of The Long Road To Greed
CHAPTER 38: THE LONG ROAD TO CLOVER Summary: In 2009, when Rebecca Skloot went to
Clover for a visit and reminiscing the town where Henrietta s journey began. She thought the road
seemed longer than she remembered, and then she recognised that she was driving past the Post
Office. She stopped the car and stared in surprise at a ground full of remains that had once been
downtown Clover. She picked up some of the pieces from the town with the intention to give them to
Deborah. After passing by the Main Street in Clover, Rebecca felt like almost all the things that were
associated to Henrietta s past was fading. Gary, Day, and Cootie had already died and now the whole
town of Clover had gone too. It was in the same year when Rebecca finished the book and she had
never forgotten her agreement with Deborah to read it to her. She then contacted Deborah many times
and was left unanswered. Her voice messages were not even responded as well. It was then she found
out after contacting Sonny that Deborah just died after Mother s Day in 2009. Even though an
unfortunate happened to the Lackses family, Deborah had been happy. All of her grandchildren in the
family were doing well in school, graduating and going to college. In particular, Lawrence and
Bobbette s granddaughter Erika was inspired to study science because of the story of her great
grandmother Henrietta. She was the first descendants of Henrietta who attended graduate school. After

This makes sense as saplings are defined as young trees that are taller than 1.35m above the forest floor. So between 150cm and 300cm is most likely average height which would be the majority of the population. The overall data set of investigation 1 is alot more spread out than the compact data set of investigation 2. On the other hand, in investigation 2 all the data points are overlapping and in line with the regression line, up to a height of 600cm where there is few data points, indicating that the majority of saplings taken in this sample are young and planted for regeneration of the forest purposes. In both cases there is a positive relationship between the two sets of variables. In investigation one, as H of a sapling increases, the DBH tends to increase. This would make sense because as the sapling grows up, it subsequently grows in diameter because it manufactures new cells around its circumference which increase the diameter at breast height in order to maintain and support the weight of the growing height. On the graph there appears to be some unusal feature s where the height of the Sapling is approx 450cm however the DBH of just below 10cm is alot lower than the other saplings of the sample population that have a height of 450cm. It is possible that some sapling trees, like this one, are alot thinner and taller. This could be caused by a mutation. However ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

They are used subconsciously because you may not know what they mean. Which can cause cultural tension if you do something that may seem harmless to you but may be a great insult to another culture. Paralanguage has many forms such as whistling which can be used by many people as a means of entertaining by whistling a song or even in American culture used to hound women on the streets because they appear to be attractive. William wrote over 120 pieces, including sonnets, madrigals, and other secular works (William). William is best known for his development of the English madrigal. (Britannica) A madrigal is a choral piece for two to four people. In his song, Ave Verum Corpus , we can clearly hear this use of many choral voices. In fact, this effect can be found in a almost all of William s works. He took large risks by using two, three, four, or even more voices to blend perfect harmonies and use alternating melodies. The result is beautiful music that would be used, even today, by countless others. On aspect of his music is the joining of high and low voices. There are areas in his music where the low voices sing but the high voices do not and vice versa. Then, William does a splendid job of blending them together, using the differing pitches of the singers to compliment each others voices. The result is a full sound that is not too muddy and low, yet not too high and pitchy. His songs were almost always in Latin wording, including the constant use of the phrase Agnus Dei or Lamb of God . If listening very closely, one might be able to hear this phrase repeated in many of the works provided by William. Byrd also released a collection of madrigals that became very popular (William).William also jumped for any opportunity he could get his hands on; for example, William majorly contributed in the making of the English ... • 8. Comparing Two Approaches to Cognitive Psychology Cognitive psychology is concerned with the internal processes involved in making sense of the environment and deciding what action may be appropriate. These processes include attention, perception, learning and reasoning, (Eysenck and Keane, 2010).There are a number of approaches which can be used within this field, however for the purposes of the essay only two will be compared; cognitive neuroscience and neuropsychology. The aims of cognitive neuroscientists are often similar to those of cognitive psychologists; they are both interested in the brain and cognition, (Medin and Ross, 1996). In contrast, a technique favoured by cognitive neuropsychologists is neurological case studies. These are reports on individuals who have suffered damage to the nervous system. Researchers can observe the behaviour of participants and interpret how this has been affected by their brain injury. These procedures involved in cognitive neuroscience require high levels of control, therefore are usually conducted in a laboratory setting, thus producing quantitative data that can be easily analysed, (Eysenck and Keane, 2010). Nevertheless, the techniques vary in the precision with which they identify the brain areas active when a task is performed (spatial resolution), and the time course of such activation (temporal resolution). Therefore, several procedures often need to be combined to compensate for limitations, (Sternberg and Wagner, 1999). Comparing Godwin And Wolstonecraft-Wollstonecraft This contingency was not unique to Goethe; rather, it continued to shape Romanticism as it spread through England and Europe from the 1790 s to Queen Victoria s ascension in 1837. The works of the Godwin Wollstonecraft Shelley family particularly espouse the correlation between children, education, and women. William Godwin s treatise Enquiry on Political Justice (1793) outlines a theory of education that illustrates the Romantic fascination with children; like Rousseau, Godwin claims that children are naturally predisposed to good or are a sort of raw material put into [parents] hands, a ductile and yielding substance (36 7). In Frankenstein, Victor Frankenstein s cousin and fiancée Elizabeth combines Charlotte and Gretchen into one character. Victor also idealizes Elizabeth in the way Werther worships Charlotte, describing how, Since the death of her aunt . . . she felt that the most imperious duty of rendering her uncle and cousins happy, had devolved upon her (2). Here, Elizabeth adheres to Goethe s vision of the virtuous mother who wholly devotes herself to her children and family. Although Elizabeth possesses Charlotte s moral purity, her tragic death aligns with Gretchen s fate. Like Gretchen, Elizabeth fails as a mother when Victor s monster murders her surrogate son, William. What makes art is its life pulsing and shining with the energy and intentions of its creator. The art of quilting glows with a respect for all generations that have come before putting thread, needle, and cloth together with vision and love (Wilson 7). Starting out in antiquity as a necessity and a work of art, quilting has changed over time, but it is still practiced in a myriad of cultures around the world. Since the modern word quilt is derived from the Latin word culcitra, it is reasonable to assume that Romans who spoke Latin used quilted blankets. However, it was not until A.D. 1095 that Europeans gained undeviating access to the technologies of Asia and Africa, and the process of quilting became standard in Western Europe. Through their attack on Palestine, knights from England, France, and Italy were introduced to the Palestinians light armor made of tough quilted jackets covered with chain mail, flexible armor made of metal links (Wilson 16 17). Quilting was introduced to America when the first settlers came in the Fifteenth Century. The first records of quilts in what would become the United States come from wills and estate papers of the 1600 s. The oldest surviving American quilt is probably the Saltonstall quilt, made around 1704 (Breneman and Laurette). Many cultures have come together in the United States to include, for example, such world noted quilt styles as Mexican American, African American, and Amish. It is not known exactly when the first pioneer woman introduced her quilting to the Spanish American settlers, but star quilt patterns became an element of Spanish American women s weaving quite early. • 15. The Emperor s New Clothes, By Chris Argyris Essay The article, Empowerment: The Emperor s New Clothes, by Chris Argyris, is provocative to proponents of empowerment, and challenges many of the ideas espoused by our text. The article states that, in order for empowerment to be successful, commitment to it must be internalized, which, according to the author, is very difficult to achieve. Additionally, advocates of empowerment, i.e. managers and change professionals, are often the main impediment to the successful implementation of employee empowerment. Both our text and the article describe basically the same process and problems, just with a different emphasis. The book has a unicorn and rainbows approach where, if certain steps are taken, the end result of empowerment will naturally occur. The article, on the other hand, focuses on the potential problems associated with implementation and acts as a reality check. I think the issue of defining external versus internal commitment is the biggest difference between the text and the article. External commitment, where goals, tasks, and performance metrics are defined by management (Argyris, 1998) equates to the traditional style of management in the text (Goetsch, 2016). Internal commitment, where individuals and teams define goals, tasks, and performance metrics (Argyris, 1998) simply comes along with empowerment in the text (Goetsch, 2016). Empowerment, as described in the text, is simply a model. Models, like plans, rarely survive contact with the enemy, or in this case, the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The next highest amount that was able to stay on the penny was H₂O, which had an average of 26.3 drops. After that was ethanol which average 25.3 drops, and finally, soap, which averaged 22.7. When these drop counts were converted to mL, the results were 1.566 mL of NaCl on the penny, 1.143 H₂O on the penny, 0.527 mL of ethanol on the penny, and 0.413 mL of soap on the penny. These results can be attributed to the intermolecular forces holding ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This is a very strong type of intermolecular force, which results in a high boiling point and a lot of surface tension. H₂O has the second highest amount of substance on the penny because H₂O consists of hydrogen bonds, which are very strong but not as strong as ion dipole bonds. This is why H₂O had a lot of surface tension, but slightly less than NaCl. Ethanol had the third most amount of substance on the penny, and this is because ethanol also has hydrogen bonds like H₂O, but because ethanol is a a bigger molecule there are less bonds, and therefore less surface tension. Soapy water had the least amount of substance on the penny, and this is because soap molecules have hydrophobic ends, so when they are mixed with water molecules, they break the surface tension created by the strong hydrogen bonds. The impact of the intermolecular forces: hydrogen bonds, London Dispersion Forces, dipole dipole attraction, and ion dipole attraction were investigated in this lab, and it was determined that ion dipole attraction results in the greatest amount of surface tension, followed by hydrogen bonds, dipole dipole attractions, and London Dispersion ... • 21. Essay On Footwork In Volleyball On the whole; volleyball can be very difficult, one thing that makes it so hard is passing. There are two ways to pass; the fore arm pass also known as the bump, and the set. A bump is when the player sticks out their arms with their forearms to the sky. This creates a flat surface for the ball to land on and bump up. As the ball is approaching the player they get lower to the ground like a squat and raise themselves as they contact the ball. The set is when the player raises their hands and creates a diamond with their index fingers and thumbs. The rest of the fingers are spread out to cover more space on the ball. It is very light with little to no rotation, the set is hard to do but when it is perfected; it helps the game greatly. Foot work and the position of the ball helps a lot too. Footwork helps in getting the ball up in the air for the setter to do their job and keep the game going. Footwork is a necessary part in volleyball. Ball placement is also very important ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... If the player is not at the right place at the right time, the ball is going to hit the court. A very important element for positioning is footwork. Without proper footwork, the game known as volleyball would be very difficult. The player needs to have quick feet and know where to step and when. Speed is also very important; volleyball has a lot of movement to it. Moving up to the net and then moving back to hit, then moving up and back repeat. To do it right, speed is very important to have. Awareness on the court is necessary, the players need to know who is where and where is the ball. Without awareness the player runs the risk of getting hit by the ball and losing the game for the team. Finally, the last aspect to positioning is quick thinking. The player needs to know where to hit the ball and which way to pass very fast. Also setters need to know who to set in order to get a good hit for the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 22. A Comparative Analysis of the Concepts of Science and... Nathaniel Hawthorne s The Birthmark and Rappaccini s Daughter both address the concepts of science and nature and the conflicts that the two typically generate. The protagonists in both stories feel that it is essential for them to do something in order to improve the persons they love. Moreover, they appear to consider that they actually want to help the persons they love instead of actually helping themselves by doing so. The women in the two stories focus on being as good as they can possibly be in order for their lovers to appreciate them, but these men want science to interfere and remove any type of problems that they discover in the women that they love. Aylmer, the protagonist in The Birthmark was a successful scientist and philosopher previous to marrying Georgiana, as he preferred to abandon his background in order to provide his wife with everything she needed in order to feel loved. Science actually seemed to be worth nothing when compared to Georgiana, and even though Aylmer paid great respect to his background, he would rather focus on his wife. His love for his young wife might prove the stronger of the two; but it could only be by intertwining itself with his love of science, and uniting the strength of the latter to his own (Hawthrone). While it seems that Aylmer is happy with his condition consequent to marrying Georgiana, it is gradually revealed that he is unable to abandon his love for science. He encounters a significant problem as he comes ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 23. The Day After Roswell By Philip J. Corso No child had such an oversized balloon shaped head. It didn t even look human, although it had human like features (18). This is a description of an extraterrestrial from the Roswell incident in the book The Day After Roswell written by Col. Philip J. Corso (Ret.) with WIlliam J. Birnes. This book is quite the interesting read to say the least. Extraterrestrials, flying saucers, and foreign technology are some of the complications in Corso s autobiography during his time in military intelligence working at The Pentagon. Corso describes everything between the events of a flying saucer crash that occurred in Roswell, NM. on July 4, 1947 to the modern day technology that the United States has managed to reverse engineer due to the crash. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He was head of the project. Corso was diving much deeper than just the surface of a U.F.O. conspiracy theory. If anyone s story should be believed it should be Corso s. It is easy to dismiss many of the eyewitness reports, as after a while everyone was an eyewitness just to get some fame. Corso actually worked on the project in The Pentagon. Many people believe this story is too outlandish to believe. This is the strategy that The Foreign Technology Desk decided to go for. Between the time of the Roswell crash and the beginning of The Foreign Technology Desk, the Air Force had branched off from the Army, taking artifacts with it. This added another layer to difficulty to keeping the story secret. At first, the military blew off the Roswell crash as a weather balloon and threatened majority of the eye witnesses. This had kept them quiet for a while but people eventually talk. The military decided to stop covering it up and would leak little bits of information to people who would make something out of it. Corso states, This was called camouflage with limited exposure (85). This was in order to make the talking witnesses to look like nut jobs. If they denied it like it was nothing, then the media thought it was nothing. Eventually tabloids would buy the stories and then the credibility was lost. This built an alien ... • 24. Endogenous DNA Damage Since the DNA structure was discovered more than 50 years ago, the mechanisms how genetic information encoded by DNA was preserved and how the integrity of transmission in between generations was maintained have been one of the top questions kept being asked. It has been well accepted that the integrity of human genome is maintained by mechanisms to protect DNA from damage either generated spontaneously during endogenous DNA biogenesis including replication or transcription or induced by exogenous environmental factors (Ciccia and Elledge, 2010; Jackson and Bartek, 2009; Lord and Ashworth, 2012). Endogenous DNA damage can be due to alterations of DNA during replication, transcription, or other process of DNA biogenesis at different rates. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Failure of overcoming such lesions will cause chromosome duplication failure and may lead to mitotic catastrophe, complex chromosomal rearrangements, and tumorigenesis. Multiple mechanisms are developed by the cells to sense and respond to such type of lesions. In replication fork stalling, the cell senses the lesion with replication protein A as well as its downstream factors. At the same time, the Fanconi Anemia proteins facilitates the interstrand crosslinking lesions (see next section, 1.3.2). Particularly, FANCM, together with its binding partners MHFs and FAAP24, will facilitate the activation of ATR/CHK1 signaling pathway for further repair. After proper responses to the replication stresses, the stalled or collapsed replication forks will be restarted (Collis et al., 2008; Wang et al., 2013). Under certain circumstances, single strand DNA gaps will remain on the DNA strand even though the stalled replication forks are successfully overcome, in which a DNA clamp, proliferating cell nuclear antigen (PCNA), and other proteins will function in a postreplication repair to further fix the damages left (Tian et al., ... Duke Ellington was born into a typical family with average income and growing up, the future musician was home schooled by his parents. His father James Edward Ellington and mother Daisy Kennedy Ellington were both pianist. His father played operatic arias while parlor songs were his mother s first choice. It is an interesting fact that Duke is not actually Ellington s name, but it is only his nickname, which children gave him when he was a little boy for his aristocratic manners and the ability to dress elegant things. When Ellington s drummer Sonny Greer joined the Wilber Sweatman Orchestra in New York City, he decided to leave behind his successful career in Washington, D.C and moved to Harlem. Shortly after his move to Harlem, in May of 1927, Andy Preer who had been leading the house band at the Cotton Club died. In looking for a replacement, the gig went to Duke Ellington and his men. The clubs decor was modelled after the old south of plantations and slavery, hence the name the Cotton Club . The club was segregated, meaning only whites were allowed in the audience, while all the waiters and entertainers were African American. What made Duke Ellington and his Cotton Club Orchestra famous were the weekly broadcasts on radio station WHN. After passing by the Main Street in Clover, Rebecca felt like almost all the things that were associated to Henrietta s past was fading. Gary, Day, and Cootie had already died and now the whole town of Clover had gone too. It was in the same year when Rebecca finished the book and she had never forgotten her agreement with Deborah to read it to her. She then contacted Deborah many times and was left unanswered.
