Similarities Between Maya Angelou And Langston Hughes
Influential poems about civil rights Unequal conditions of people, groups, and situations have
contributed to many societal, economical, and political issues. Unequal treatment or attitudes are
usually applied to people of different race, gender, sexual prefaces, social status, and/or religion
compared to the generally accepted situations of the people of a particular region. Unequal treatment
is mostly applied to people of dissimilar ethnic backgrounds, which results in discriminatory treatment
of the minority group. Many people have protested the inequalities that exist amongst groups. Of such
people, the poets, Maya Angelou and Langston Hughes are most notable for their work towards
bringing awareness and ending racial discrimination. Maya ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

The rhetorical appeal of amplification is used by Maya Angelou through her use of the phrase I rise,
using that phrase repeatedly allowed her audience to understand and feel the emotions she was trying
to portray in her poem. The rhetorical appeal of common ground was used by Angelou through her use
of the phrase of Bringing the gifts that my ancestors gave, I am the dream and the hope of the slave,
(poets.org) the use of that phrase establishes the common ground of the civil rights movement. For her
to continue by saying that she is the dream and hope of a slave is her reference to the successful
outcome of the civil rights movement. By establishing the common ground of the beginning and end
of the civil rights she has allowed herself to be relatable to many generations for years to come. Due to
the fact that those who experienced the civil rights movement first hand and those who came after the
movement are both able to relate to her poem is one of the main reasons her poem is such a success.
The rhetorical appeal of amplification is used by Langston Hughes through his use of the phrase I too
throughout his poem, using that phrase repeatedly emphasizes to the audience his point of not being
different due to his color. The use of the rhetorical appeal of common ground is used by Langston
Hughes through

The Recommended Ai Intake For Fiber
The recommended AI intake for fiber is 25g/day for a woman. My average fiber intake is 36 g/day
which is higher than the recommended value. Different vegetables, fruits, and whole grains from my
diet are the rich sources of insoluble fiber. And I received insoluble fiber from eating apple, banana,
citrus fruits, beans, and oats. I was successful to meet most of my vitamins and minerals requirements
by eating different fruits, vegetables, nuts, whole grains, and dairy products. My average vitamin E
intake was 10 mg/day, which is under than the recommended RDA of 15mg/day. My average vitamin
D is significantly low 3 mcg/day, while recommended RDA is 15 20 mcg/day. Also my average
choline intake is 260mg, while recommended RDA is 425 mg. Surprisingly my average potassium
intake is low, at 3646 mg/day.The recommended potassium RDA is 4700 mg/day. My average salt
intake is 2954mg/day, which is 200% of recommended sodium RDA. Diets that contain high amounts
of sodium are associated with increased of hypertension. It surprised me that though I consumed very
little amount of processed foods, salty snacks, or canned food, my average sodium intake came high.
On Friday October 2nd, my total calorie intake was surprisingly low at 1635, which was 365 less
calorie than my budget of 2000 calories. In my breakfast, I ate coffee, cereal, 1% milk, and fresh
strawberries. My lunch was comprised of grilled cheese sandwich and corn soup, and in my dinner I
had baked beans, sweet potatoes,

Current Literature Regarding the History of Bullying Research
Adult bullying at work is shockingly common and very destructive. In an in depth analysis of 146
organizations worldwide, workplaces evidencing bullying on a relatively routine basis made up 44%
of the total analyzed. U.S. studies also suggest alarming prevalence rates. During any given 6 to 12
month period, up to 13 percent of workers are bullied on the job; this increases significantly when
counting those bullied anytime during their careers .These numbers translate to millions of workers:
According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics 136 million Americans were employed in July 2008. An
estimated 55 million Americans have been bullied at work using the 33% rate. This paper reviews the
current literature regarding the history of bullying ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A decade later, the topic surfaced in England In 1991, a freelance journalist named Andrea Adams,
brought the issue to public attention in Britain through a series of BBC radio posts; she labeled the
phenomenon bullying. As a result of Adams work and public concern, interest in and the study of
bullying intensified in the U.K. Although Scandinavia and the U.K. continue to lead in this area,
bullying and mobbing research now includes, among others, scholars and professionals in Japan,
Australia, and Canada.
In the United States the history of adult bullying research has been less straightforward. U.S.
psychiatrist Carroll Brodsky conducted one of the first studies of workplace harassment and
subsequently published The Harassed Worker . Despite the groundbreaking nature of his work, the
book stirred little interest at the time. Brodsky s research was revived in the early 1990s when interest
surged in England. Around this same time, the study of human aggression expanded to include
aggression at work, research that was centrally concerned with perpetrators. In the early 1990s,
nursing professor, Helen Cox, began studying verbal abuse in medical settings when it appeared to be
driving away gifted nursing students. Around the same time rare but highly visible occurrences of
workplace murder sparked a massive amount of research that extended into the next two. In the late
1990s research with a district focus that

Durkheim Prohibition Of Religion
Durkheim goes more into depth of rites and prohibitions of religions but, he also goes into depth about
magic. We see cults where people have worshipped objects in a sacred way but, there are cults that do
the opposite of committing sacred acts, these cults are called negative cults. Negative cults do not
mandate obligations to be carried out by the faithful , they just prohibit certain ways of acting (304).
However, that does not mean they do not follow prohibition; all religions and cults go by taboo. Taboo
is a term most commonly used in languages like Polynesia, which means, to denote the institution in
accordance with which certain things are withdrawn from ordinary use; it is also an expression that
expresses the distinctive characteristic ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He must withdraw from the society where he has spent his life until then, and from virtually all human
society. He is not only forbidden to see women and uninitiated men, but he goes to live in the bush, far
from his peers, under the supervision of a few old men serving as godfathers. So much is the forest
considered his natural milieu that, in quite a few tribes, the word for initiation means that which is of
the forest. For the same reason, the novice is often decorated with leaves during the ceremonies he
attends. In this way, he spends long months punctuated from time to time by rites in which he must
participate. For him, this is a time for every sort of abstinence. He is forbidden a great many foods,
and he is allowed to only as much food as is strictly necessary to sustain life. Indeed, rigorous fasting
is often obligatory, or her is made to eat disgusting food. When he eats, he must not touch the food
with his hands; his godfathers put it in his mouth. .

Suspense In Way Up To Heaven
In the stories Live to Tell , Interlopers , and Way Up to Heaven the shared literary element is suspense
which gets developed through imagery. Each of these stories is unique in their own way. However
they all have one thing in common, suspense. Through settings and characters the authors develop a
great sense of tension and suspense which keeps the reader interested.
Suspense plays in important role in Live to Tell because it builds the mood and helps dramatize the
story to get the point across. This story has wonderful imagery that helps with adding more effect to
the suspense of the story. Then the sound I don t want to hear the whap whap of his bare feet slapping

adds the sound effect of the kid slapping his bare feet it really helps add more dramatization. You are
anticipating what Evan is going to do next. You are sharing Victoria s fears. Gardner does a great job
of using her settings to create suspense. Cherry red cabinet doors being flung open, cups plates ...

This story does a great job of describing the characters relationship through imagery and setting.
Ulrich was silent for a few minutes, and lay listening to the weary screeching wind.(Saki,3) The way
the author described the wind added more effect to the suspense of the character waiting. It helps us
understand the emotions of the character. The two enemies stood glaring at one another for a long
silent moment. Each had a rifle in his hand, each had hate in his heart and murder uppermost in his
mind (Saki,2) By describing how the characters felt it helped us understand the relationship between
them. Deeply describing the characters relationship it makes the reader want to know what they are
going to do next. This helps us feel the hatred between the two

printer in New York until a fire devastated the printing section of the city he was self taught reading
the works of Homer, Dante and the Bible. Whitman worked as a teacher for several years before

National African American History Year
Every year, February is to be known as the Black History Month, or formally known as National
African American History Month. It is an annual commemoration of achievements by African
Americans and a time for recognizing the central role of African Americans in United States history.
Black History Month had its origins in 1915 when Dr. Cater G. Woodson and his colleagues founded
the Association for the Study of Negro Life and History ( African American History Month, 2014).
This organization is now known as the Association for the Study of African American Life and
History. Through this organization, Dr. Cater G. Woodson played the greatest role in helping all
Americans know the Black past by initiating Negro History Week in Washington, D.C. in February
1926 (Bunch, 2012). Dr. Woodson selected the week in February that included the birthdays of
Abraham Lincoln and Frederick Douglass due to the fact they were key figures in the history of
African Americans ( African American History Month, 2014). According to Bunch (2012), Woodson
believed that the black experience was too important simply to be left to a small group of academics.
Dr. Cater G. Woodson, a son of a slave, was born in New Canton, Virginia on December 19, 1875
(Bellis, n.d.). Although he did not enter high school until the age of 20, he continued to study at Berea
College, the University of Chicago, the Sorbonne, and Harvard University, where he earned a PhD in
1912 (Bellis, n.d.). During this time,

Araby And Eveline Research Paper
James Joyce s Dubliners is an array of different short stories. Eveline and Araby are two of Joyce s
short stories that are widely appreciated for their literary values. These two short stories, Eveline and
Araby , are very similar in how both narrators seem to be in love with what characters that seem to be
somewhat distant. Eveline and Araby are also similar due to their failed attempts at love, and the
romantic illusions they have trapped themselves in. They are not entirely similar however due to the
fact that the boy in Araby understood he caused his own undoing, whereas in Eveline , she did not
blame herself. Also, the author, James Joyce notes that both protagonists in these stories live in a
brown house. The are also different because of the perspective each short story is written in. Araby is

Written in first person from the perspective of a young boy, Araby doesn t have quite the impact that it
s counterpart, Eveline has. Eveline however, is written from a third person perspective from an older
protagonist that deal with issue that are a bit more serious. In Eveline the protagonist is afraid to run
away from the past. Joyce expresses this well through his final two sentences of the story She set her
white face to him, passive, like a helpless animal. Her eyes gave him no sign of love or farewell or
recognition. This excerpt expresses the protagonists feelings when she is committed to not getting on
the boat. This scene exemplifies a moment in which the protagonist seems to be in a slight shock as if
the world around her is standing still. In Eveline the protagonist chooses to live with her pleasant
memories of her old family she grew up with instead of unbounding herself from her currently abusive
father, and running away to start a family of her

The Sexuality Of Women s Sexuality
There are certainly many different types of feminists with varying beliefs on various topics.
Pornography is one of the most widely disputed of these topics, and has long caused controversy
among feminists. Two clear, and distinctly different, sides have been taken by Andrea Dworkin as well
as Linda Williams. The former of these two academics has taken the presumably more controversial
stance. Dworkin is known for their radical stance that pornography only paints women as whores, as
that is how they are seen in a male dominated world. She also is of the opinion that the depictions of
female sexuality is accurate to how women are represented in real life: The valuation of women s
sexuality in pornography is objective and real because ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This quote demonstrates not only Williams understanding of female agency but also that female sex
workers often exist in contrast to some feminists. Moreover, Williams does acknowledge female
passivity in traditional porn: Women, on the other hand, like slaves and boys, were the passive
penetrated, who did not move, who were fucked, and who had no power to abstain (Williams, 368).
Contrastingly to Dworkin, Williams acknowledges how pornography has changed from its conception,
both in terms of how it is produced, as well as how the women are valued and portrayed in the
industry, as she follows the story of Annie Sprinkle. It is the opinion of this author that Williams more
accurately represents pornography than Dworkin. Based on the opinions of many authors explored in
this unit, it would seem that the terms pornography and feminism could be considered antonyms. I am
sure that many anti pornography feminists would sooner turn over in their graves before deciding that
the two could be correlated. But is that necessarily true? I personally believe that aspects of feminism
can be found everywhere, and can be applied in the strangest of places. It is for this reason that I
believe that pornography has the capability to be feminist, though it rarely is. In its creation, women
certainly were passive members who had no agency in their participation nor the consumption of
pornography. Pornography was kept hidden and censored out of

Life in the Feudal System During Medievel Times
All of the villages had one large farm where all villagers shared as grazing land for their animals. The
village also included church land (glebe), the lords hunting forest, and meadows where hay was
grown.
A farmer usually had two crops; a spring and an autumn crop. The spring usually consisting of barley,
vetches, oats, peas and beans, while fall was usually just wheat and rye. Each seed was used in way.
The rye and wheat, besides being sold for cash, was used for bread. The barley was used for beer and
the oats and hay were fed to the livestock. Different crops are planted on the same field in different

During the 11th Century, the lord started recruiting middle class freeman with actual skills. These men
also had a certain standard of quality equipment.
Around 90% of Medieval Europeans were peasants who worked as farmers. Peasants lived in village
of about 100 to 300 people, in a one of two roomed hut located around the village green or along the
villages dirt road. Village were usually near a river or stream because it then provided them with a
source of fresh water and fish. The villages and the land around them were called manors. Manors
varied in size from about 900 to 3000 hectares and were owned by a lord. The lord had his own
farming area which was around one third of the total area, this was known as demesne. The villagers
then farmed the rest of the land.
Women in Medieval times were totally controlled by the males of their family. They were expected to
obey their father, brothers or any other male members. If a woman was to be disobedient, she would
be beaten and was seen as a crime against religion. It was important for women to learn how to use
weapons so they could protect their homes when the men of the family were away. Some medieval
women held other jobs. There were women blacksmiths, merchants and apothecaries. Others were
midwives, workers in the fields, or spent their time writing, playing musical instruments, dancing or
painting.

Ethics of Maternal Care
Recent legal movements and rules are being placed within the practice of maternal mothers with focus
on the protection of the fetus as a separate entity from the woman. These legalities are said to question
the rights of the pregnant woman about her own medical care and decisions. The new protective
actions for the fetus will enforce criminal charges on women who behave in a way that is associated
with fetal harm or adverse perinatal outcomes. The ethical dilemmas with maternal decision making
are being approached because it constrains the pregnant woman s decision making by punishing them
which erode a woman s basic rights to privacy and body integrity. (ACOG, 2011) The technological
advances of current imaging, testing, and treating of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The cases above outline the need for testing of post partum mothers, but a caregiver may encounter
complications of obtaining consent from the new mother. In regards to prenatal testing, physicians
have neither an obligation nor a right to perform prenatal testing. It is important to maintain the health
of the fetus, but supersedes a woman s autonomous choice. A person who is trying to override a
maternal patient s decision must remember that medical judgments in obstetrics are not perfect. A case
in June of 1987 where the hospital retrieved a court order for a cesarean delivery stating independent
rights for the fetus because a mother was critically ill with cancer and the fetus was at 25 weeks
gestation. The infant and the mother died shorty aft the cesarean delivery was performed. The District
of Columbia stated the courts had erred in subordination her right to bodily integrity in factor of the
state s interested in potential life. (ACOG, 2011) Studies performed present results that in one third of
case s related to obstetric interventions that were court ordered, the medical judgment was incorrect. A
suggested example of obstetric care is the management of risk associated with shoulder dystocia in the
possible birthing of a fetal Macrosomia. The concern for practioners when making recommendations

Seraphina Poem Analysis
In the land of Novyd lived a bard named Spero, who always wore his heart on his sleeve. He traveled
from court to court, charming the nobles with his songs and poems about love. In each court, Spero
longed to meet the love of his life: he pursued any woman who caught his eye, offering them a piece
of his heart in exchange for their affection. One evening in the castle courtyard, he came across a
noblewoman surrounded by her handmaidens. They trembled in her presence, scampering away like
frightened rats once she waved them away. She was Seraphina, the fairest lady of the court. No man
could win her over. Nonetheless, Spero was determined to woo her. He spent the next few days
picking the most vibrant flowers in the garden: blue ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When he returned, the whole court marveled at sight of his kaleidoscopic bouquet, including the
woman, who introduced herself as Lyra. Spero sang his song for her, not a note out of place, then
handed her a piece of his heart. She accepted with delight. The next few days passed without incident.
They were a happy couple, smiling and holding hands at every opportunity. The bard found himself
performing better each night on stage and in bed for his new love ignited all his senses. But one night,
Lyra came to him in tears. I ve lost the piece of your heart, she cried, if you will give me another, I
promise I shan t lose it. And so Spero did, for he knew that lovers ought to forgive each other. He felt
himself grow weaker as he gave her a new piece, but he wanted nothing more than to see Lyra happy.
A couple of days passed and she lost another piece, and another, and another, until Spero finally drew
the line. His voice was hoarse as of late, and he could no longer sing as well as he used to. I cannot
give you any more pieces of my heart, he said. You do not value it enough to take care of it. Lyra was
hurt by his words, but knew that her chances of being forgiven were spent. She gathered her
belongings from his bedchamber and bade him a tearful farewell. After giving a weak performance for
the court, and enduring his audience s painful silence Spero decided to stay and

D Day During The World War II
There are a lot of days throughout the landing on Normandy on June 6th, 1944, to get the Germans out
of Paris, which then lead to pushing them out of France in late August 1944. D day was a significant
day because it helped end World War Two . It was the day that had started the chain effect to ending
World war Two, an example of this is on December 16, 1945, the Battle of the Bulge. This was when
the last of Germany s troops went 50 mile across the Allies defences creating what is known as a
bulge. There are some main targets and effects of d day and some of those are, it helped the soviets not
fight alone against Nazi Germany. It spread the Germans army thin because they had to face fronts on
the East and West side of them, just like in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
But now that Adolf Hitler Germany s chancellor has Poland, Hitler will break that pact in 1941. This
was when Hitler had organized a blitzkrieg on the Soviet Union . That Blitzkrieg was codenamed
Operation Barbarossa. On the day June 22, 1941 Adolf Hitler organized and launched operation
barbarossa, he had set the soldiers to the Eastern side of Russia. This was one of the largest military
operation in history. It concluded more than three million Axis troops, and around three thousand and
five hundred tanks. On the first day the Germans had gone nearly fifty miles into Russia. The Soviets
weren t looking so good they had two hundred fifty thousand men that were lost when the Germans
encircled and either killed or enslaved the Soviet soldiers near the end of June in Minskin Belarus near
Poland. Also around september one hundred eighty thousand were captured at Smolensk and
meanwhile five hundred thousand casualties in the Battle of Kiev. The Soviets with the non aggression
pact broken they looked for the help of the Allies.
Now organizing the Western front was hard that it looked. There was verise obstacles and worries to
overcome. Some of obstacles and struggles are that when President Roosevelt, Winston Churchill the
leader of England at the time had to plan and think about even little things like the moon. The moon
played in this because of the tides. If the tide was to high many of the landing ships would hit land

Justify Capital Punishment
Is capital punishment justice? Capital punishment, also known as the death penalty, remains to be one
of the most hotly debated issues in the justice system. This subject contains large gray areas
concerning many aspects of what is we consider modern justice. Many wonder if such a punishment
should be allowed in our modern society. The argument of this paper is to convince others that capital
punishment and all that it entails is a practical and just form of delivering justice, providing both
secular and religious explanations as to why the death penalty is just.
Since, many citizens comment that this form of delivering justice is just. The other side fires back with

Capital punishment should only be pushed on criminals such as child rapists, mass murders, and serial
killers. If we did not have capital punishment these offenders could escape from prison and repeat
crimes, possibly worse than the first time. If there was no Capital punishment and the death penalty
was not an option people would have no inhibition to crime, and no one would never think twice
before committing an offense. Most people agree with capital punishment being just when federal,
state, and local officials implement the correct constitutional protections, such as due process and

Gothic Criticism In Northanger Abbey, By Jane Austen
Jane Austen is the first great woman writer in English and, arguably, England s first great novelist. She
is one of those literary artists, who not only laid the foundation of novel, but also give it to a new
direction. A supremely comic writer and moralist, Austen redefines novel as a delicate instrument to
reveal human nature. She is one of the few novelists in the world literature who is regarded as a
classic and yet is widely read. She wrote six major novels, however, only four novels were published
during her life time that established her reputation in literary circle anonymously. Her earliest novel
Northanger Abbey and last completed novel Persuasion were the novels which were not published
during her life time. The two novels were ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As Catherine; a young woman s mind can be easily influenced by such things. Her near obsession
reflects that of the society of her time. Through using Gothic themes and motifs, Austen creates an
effective atmosphere but rather than creating a horrific and mysterious story from them, she clearly
depicts the effects the genre had on young women during their time of writing. She shows the societal
opinion of the Gothic, her own opinion of Gothic novelists, and how the genre can influence one s
imagination. For Catherine, Northanger Abbey symbolizes an imagined ideal. As soon as she enters
the abbey, she begins to think of herself as the heroine of a Gothic novel. Unlike Bath, which is simply
a pleasant tourist town, the Abbey is a place of mystery and perhaps even adventure, at least in
Catherine s mind. She makes the mistake of applying Gothic novels to real life situations; for
example, later in the novel she begins to suspect General Tilney of having murdered his deceased
wife. When the Abbey turns out to be disappointingly normal, Catherine uses her memory of the
abbeys from her novel reading to make it more frightening. She soon learns that the world is not all
melodrama and eventually matures and marries a very sensible

Antz Civics

that different ants have different thoughts on how the country should be run, the idea of what a good
ant citizen should be like and the idea that all ants have their own physical and psychological needs

The first character I will discuss is Z. Z believed that he should get a choice in how he contributes to

Azteca. Regardless of what her friend was saying, Azteca stayed true to her colony and verbalized her
support for the government system. A colony needs loyal ants like this. Another example is when Z
asks to switch places with weaver and become a soldier for a day. Although Z is a good friend, weaver
is reluctant to say yes as this is against the rules. Members that follow these rules are vital to the
success of a colony. In these ways, Azteca and Weaver act in the interest of the colony. Characters that
acted in their own interests are Z and General Mandible. They make choices based on their own
beliefs and what makes them happy, regardless of the impacts it has on the colony. An example of this
is when Z and Princess Bala fall out of the colony and on to outside land. The princess demands that
she is escorted back as the princess is very important to a colony. Despite this and the needs of the
colony, Z marches towards Insectopia, prioritizing his desire for freedom over the survival of the
colony. Another example is when General Mandible attempted to mass murder thousands of ants
because he felt they were too weak. This kind of behavior is selfish and only supports the interests of
him gaining more power. As

Analysis Of Pedro Almodovar s Masterpiece Of A Film All...
Pedro AlmodĂłvar s masterpiece of a film All About My Mother depicts the heart wrenching tale of a
woman who has lost her son, then goes on the journey to fulfill her last wish to him, that is to tell him
about his father. Contrarily, the film ends up being mainly a narrative about his mother, and all of the
other motherly figures she encounters on this trip. Typical of an AlmodĂłvar film, the women are
placed as the characters in the center of the action female subjects that the viewers identify with.
Because of this, the film deals with women s issues. This film in particular discusses the notion of
women as mothers and performers, and what purpose these actions serve for women. Through an
analysis of the ways in which theses women characters interact with each other and the ways in which
they express their care giving, we can identify how performance functions as a tool for women to
connect with each other, as well as a way to declare and accept non heteronormative version of
womanhood. First and foremost, All About My Mother is a film that places women at the center of the
narrative. The women featured in the film are the principal characters that generate and incite the
action within the plot. By focusing on this notion of women as subjects rather than objects, one can
view the ways in which Almodóvar constructs a film that is resistant to traditional forms of
filmmaking, as suggested by Laura Mulvey. Rather than taking the approach of placing men as the
subjects of

The Use Of Rhetorical Logos In The MLK Letter
If you have ever felt the stinging pain from someone calling you a name, imagine that pain 10,000
times worse, everyday, and it s not just words and names. It is punches being thrown from every
direction, and spit flying at you. Lynchings across the street from holy churches where white people
would praise the lord and his 10 commandments, but break his most sacred, Thou shalt not kill . This
isn t even half of what you would experience if you grew up in 1963 in Birmingham Alabama, the
most segregated town in America. This is when the life of MLK flourished, his words guided him in
and out of bad situations, and to lead hundreds of thousands for their civil rights. Although MLK is
clever in his use of rhetorical appeals, his two most effective were pathos, and anaphora, these
strategies provoke empathy and guilt from the white clergy, which generates a sense of exigency and
demand. MLK s use of pathos spreads throughout his letter, using pathos takes tolls on the reader
because of how strong his words are. While MLK fights through his time in Birmingham jail, he
writes, when you suddenly find your tongue twisted and your speech stammering as you seek to
explain to your six year old daughter why she cannot go to the public amusement park that has just
been advertised on television, and see tears welling up in her little eyes when she is told that Funtown
is closed to colored children, and see the depressing clouds of inferiority begin to form in her little

The Kray Twins And The Ronnie And Reggie Kray
The Kray twins were infamous gangsters in London during 1960 s. Ronnie and Reggie Kray were
born on the 24 of October in Hoxton, east London. The twins were notorious for their gang and its
violence also for narrowly avoiding being sent to prison many times. Although many people know the
things the Kray twins did when they were already famous no one really knows what made them
become gangsters. The Kray twins were Irish, Jewish and Roman Gypsy. They were identical twins.

Ronnie Kray, in his autobiography My Story
The Krays criminal activities remained hidden behind their celebrity status and legitimate businesses.
Reggie was allegedly encouraged by his brother in October 1967, four months after the suicide of his
wife Frances, to kill Jack the Hat McVitie, a minor member of the Kray gang who had failed to fulfil a

basement flat in Evering Road, Stoke Newington on the pretence of a party. Upon entering, he saw
Ronnie Kray seated in the front room. As Ronnie approached him, he let loose a barrage of verbal
abuse and cut him below his eye with a piece of broken glass. It is believed that an argument then
broke out between the twins and McVitie. As the argument got more heated, Reggie Kray pointed a
handgun at McVitie s head and pulled the trigger twice, but the gun failed to discharge.
McVitie was then held in a bearhug by the twins cousin, Ronnie Hart, and Reggie Kray was handed a
carving knife. He stabbed McVitie in

The American War on Drugs war created to keep an exorbitant amount of people behind bars, and in a

within the last 50 years legislation pertaining to drug use and punishment has increased significantly.
In the modern era, especially hard times have hit minority communities thanks to these drug laws.
While being unfairly targeted by drug laws and law enforcement, minorities in America are having a
difficult time trying to be productive members of society. A famous quote attributed to Charlie

In order to spread lies about marijuana use, various agencies released propaganda films, most notable
of these films is Reefer Madness . In this film, high school students are lured into using marijuana,

the strong use of propaganda, marijuana use saw an upward trend between the 1950 s and the 1960 s.
Use of marijuana had spread to the white upper and middle classes by the 1960 s, partially changing
the negative connotations attached to marijuana use. The drug was used by these middle and upper
class whites to rebel against the older generation s way of thinking. Many teens were introduced to

Robot And Frank Essay
Robot and Frank is an unpredictable film about a retired man, Frank. The movie is set in the near
future in New York, where everyone uses technology and robots to help them with simple day to day
tasks. The movie starts off with Frank trying to steal from his own home until he sees a picture of
himself with his two children, Hunter and Madison. Hunter and Madison are grown ups living on their
own, but also always trying to check up on Frank. Frank, on the other hand unintentionally causes all
sort of trouble to his children due to his failing memory. So, his son, Hunter presents him with a robot
butler. At first, Frank is irritated with his new robot servant. Over time Frank realizes that the robot is
actually worthwhile. It cleans the house, cooks, tries to keep a set schedule for Frank, wakes him up in
the morning, tries to build Frank s interest in gardening and walks around town with him. In addition,
Franks cognitive condition improves as the robot kept him busy. Not to mention, Frank is a semi
retired burglar, who later trains his robot to help him with his new burglaries. The two keep their
secret planning between themselves until Frank is almost caught and unfortunately has to erase the
robot s memory. The movie ends with Frank living at a nursing home, where, at this point, he is
unable to recognize Hunter. Frank s family comes to visit him and he leaves Hunter with a note

The Legal Drinking Age At The United States Of America
Vinny Messina Professor Newell ENC 1102 03 May 2015 Time to Look at the Facts There have been
many recent debates on the subject of the legal age to drink alcoholic beverages in the United States of
America. Some otherwise intelligent people want to lower the legal drinking age to eighteen rather
than keep it at twenty one, the current federally mandated drinking age. In Time Magazine Mary Cary,
author of Time to Lower the Drinking Age, puts forth the position that lowering the drinking age
would actually be beneficial to society. Though lowering the drinking age to eighteen may lead to
solutions to underage drinking, many other, more dangerous issues may arise from teenagers who
begin to drink earlier in life; this is the greater matter that and it should not be overlooked on this
issue. According to Mary Cary, lowering the drinking age would not increase drunk driving and the
deaths associated with it. She believes that the issue of drunk driving has already been addressed and
that the problem no longer exists. She states that, Thanks to MADD, drunken driving isn t the problem
it used to be, and she mentions that this is the case because, we now throw the book at drunken drivers
in this country (Cary). While both of these issues may be true, she does not connect these two facts to
lowering the drinking age. Lowering the drinking age may, in fact, increase the risk of drunk driving
since alcohol will be more readily available to young people who have a reputation

Personal Objectives Of A Portfolio
Introduction
As an investor looking toward retirement, my goals is to have a well diversified portfolio. While
$100,000 may be allocated solely to mutual funds in this scenario, in the future, I would hope to
include some property as part of my overall portfolio. The goal is to seek mutual funds which are
stable in nature, considered stable, and may have some risk involved. While risk is an adverse subject
for some, I believe that taking on some or half of a risky portfolio and mixing the riskier funds with a
portion of less risky funds, the portfolio would perform to my liking. From the beginning, I knew I
was going to be selecting sector based funds, as it is easier to develop a thought process that s based
from instinct.
Personal Objectives
As a person that studies economics, I want to invest in funds that support companies that will
potentially boost our economy. Additionally, the strategy I took on was based on trends and common
knowledge. Technology is known to have longer term effects on economic expansion, parallel, my
mutual fund is set for 30 years. Therefore, I felt it important to support and investigate funds that were
heavily weighted with technological company stocks, such as Apple, Google, Facebook, Qualcomm,
etc. Technology is the face of our future because as soon as you buy it something better always comes

Muhammad Ali Fighting Style Analysis
Introduction:
Muhammad Ali is known as one of the greatest heavyweight boxers in the world. He was a
Charismatic Entertainer, Civil Rights Activist and an Avid Trash Talker. He was known as the man
who could float like a butterfly and sting like a bee. Ali had a very unique fighting style which many
believe gave him an advantage over his opponents. He combined speed with punching power.
However, Ali s deadliest weapon was not his fists but it was his ability to break down his opponent s
Psyche and exhaust them before throwing a fatal punch. This fighting style/tactic can be seen in the
famous fight between George Foreman and Muhammad Ali known as The Rumble in the Jungle .
During this particular fight in 1974, Ali Taunted Foreman using phrases such as: Hit harder! Show me
something, George That don t hurt. I thought you were supposed to be bad . Foreman was enraged, his
confidence was weakened and so Foreman punched away furiously, wasting his energy. After Eight
rounds, Ali threw his last punch and just like that. The fight was over. Foreman was defeated.
Muhammad Ali used Trash Talk to intimidate and discourage his opponents and it worked!
Rebuilding the Walls:
This is not a new tactic. In fact, there are several examples of Trash Talk in the Bible. When Nehemiah
heard about the condition of his people in Jerusalem and that the temple and walls lay in ruins, he was
grieved. Nehemiah decided to rebuild the walls of Jerusalem. Nehemiah 4:1 tells us that, when

the experiences, feelings and emotions of the Los Angeles peoples when the riots had happened. For

for getting the detailed information about Riots. However, through her play Twilight she wanted to

Video Games Are A Form Of Art
Video games are a form of art. As a result, they capture relevant social opinions of the time and are
encoded with history and culture. By interacting with players they force their audience to think
critically about situations and to form opinions about the society around them. Games accomplish this
through authorship and agency, which allows them record individual viewpoints.
The construction of a game influences its value as a lasting work. The different constructions of video
games (whether rhizomatic or maze like) results in different opinions being formed by the user. As
Bogost mentioned in his article, The Rhetoric of Video Games, by using procedurality... [to] create
possibility spaces that can be explored through play (125) creators of games can produce more agency
in a game, which in turn allows the audience to make more choices. Tough decisions may then

maze like game can be compared to a linear story. It is simple, with little flourish and little thought
contributed by the audience. In general it has a clear beginning and end, is direct, and is easy to
understand. In contrast, a rhizomatic videogame is like a non linear story. Audience members have to
be engaged wholeheartedly in order to truly understand what is occurring and the meaning behind it.

Most people assume that workplace diversity is about increasing racial, national, gender, or class
representation in other words, recruiting and retaining more people from traditionally
underrepresented identity groups. Taking this commonly held assumption as a starting point, we set
out six years ago to investigate its link to organizational effectiveness. We soon found that thinking of
diversity simply in terms of identity group representation inhibited effectiveness. Organizations
usually take one of two paths in managing diversity. In the name of equality and fairness, they
encourage (and expect) women and people of color to blend in. Or they set them apart in jobs that
relate specifically to their backgrounds, assigning them, for example, to areas that require them to
interface with clients or customers of the same identity group. African American M.B.A. s often find
themselves marketing products to innercity communities; Hispanics frequently market to Hispanics or
work for Latin American subsidiaries. In those kinds of cases, companies are operating on the
assumption that the main virtue identity groups have to offer is a knowledge of their own people. This
assumption is limited and limiting and detrimental to diversity efforts. What we suggest here is that
diversity goes beyond increasing the number of different identity group affiliations on the payroll to
recognizing that such an effort is merely the first step in managing a diverse workforce for the

The Second Coming By W. B. Yeats
The Second Coming by W. B. Yeats, was written in 1919 following World War I and was to present
the idea that he thought that the apocalypse as presented in the Book of Revelation from the Bible was
about to begin. The poem does not mention the second coming of Christ but rather focuses on the
coming of the antichrist, meaning Yeats could only see despair, hopelessness, and chaos in the world.
These sentiments of Yeats and others are due to war damages, collapsing economies, and the coming
of the Great Depression and the Irish civil war. The word choice, meter, persona, subject, and lack of
mention of Christ all collectively contribute to reflecting Yeats sentiments in the poem. Several lines
in the poem support this mentality of despair and chaos. Turning and turning in the widening gyre
refers to the worsening state of society with the collapse of democratic governments and economies.
(1) The second line, The falcon cannot hear the falconer means that any sense of hierarchy and
authority has been lost. The best people don t have the conviction to combat the growing evil and the
worst, the sinners, are full of passionate intensity meaning the world is filled with those who wish to
do evil. (7 8) These lines emphasize the corruption that the world is falling into. The selection of
adjectives and nouns used in the poem carry a negative connotation reflecting the negatives thoughts
of the state of the world. Yeats uses words such as blood dimmed, anarchy,

The Causes Of Short Stories
Unease. Thrilling. Surprise. These are simply three feelings tossed at the reader in a one page story.
Short short stories often have the effect of making the reader feel uneasy. When stories are short, a
writer tends to jump directly into the story with something interesting or alarming to grab the reader s
attention. Quite often, the more uneasy the writing, the more it leaves an effect on the reader. Sudden
Fiction is a book filled with a collection of short stories from different authors; the maximum length of
a story is three pages long. This not only causes the reader to feel ???? with the content, but also
uncomfortable with the title of the literary work. Without a doubt, the short story that made me feel
the most uneasy was Reading the Paper . On the other hand, the story that I felt more comfortable
reading was The Reunion .
First of all, Reading the Newspaper is about a women s average day, or at least it seems to be average
from the way the writer portrays it. When she is talking to several people about the death of her family
members, who had died the previous night, she is washing the blood stains out while doing her the
laundry. This becomes shocking to a reader to read that someone is functioning as if something
horrific did not happen. Typically, someone who has lost their family members, like this character,
would not be in the right state of mind to do her laundry. One could assume that she is clearly
traumatized. In addition to that, another

TLC Analysis of Analgesic Drugs
Introduction
In this experiment, thin layer chromatography (TLC) was used to determine the composition of
various over the counter (OTC) analgesics: Anacin, Bufferin, Excedrin, and Tylenol. The TLC plates
were first viewed under ultraviolet (UV) light and then treated with iodine vapor in order to visualize
the spotting.
Experiment Scheme Initially, sixteen capillary micropipets were created in order to spot the TLC
plates. Two TLC plates were then obtained and marked with pencil for spotting. A line was drawn 1
cm from the bottom of each plate, and five small, evenly spaced marks were made along those lines
(see Figure 1). Each mark indicated where a substance would be spotted.

Septic Tank Research
Things A Contractor Looks For When Inspecting Your Septic Tank If you own a home with a septic
tank, then you know you have to pump the tank on a regular schedule. What you may not know is that
you should have the tank inspected regularly too, even if it isn t time to pump the tank yet. If you live
in an area that gets frequent small earthquakes, or if your area unexpectedly has a quake, it s a good
idea to get your tank inspected. While the tanks are durable and last for years under normal conditions,
they aren t indestructible. Here are some things the inspector will look for. Cracks And Holes If your
tank has a hole or cracks in it, then water can seep inside the tank from the ground or waste can leak
out of the tank. Both are bad situations that can lead to problems with your tank and the drainfield.
Holes are most common in old metal tanks. These tanks aren t used much any longer, but if your home
is old, it s possible it still has a metal tank. These tanks can be dangerous since they rust and develop
holes. That allows leaks to occur, but even worse, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Your septic system has two parts. One is the tank and the other is the drainfield. Both have to be
working properly for the waste to be processed from your house. When the drainfield goes bad, there
may be wet soggy grass in the area above it. There could also be sewage in your yard. If sewage is
leaking, the grass above the drainfield will be lush and darker green than the rest of the yard. Problems
with the drainfield are costly to repair. Since drainfield problems often start in a tank that is too full or
damaged, it is worth the effort and expense to keep your septic tank in good shape. If you have a large
tank and you don t use much water, you may go a few years between cleaning and serving the tank.
You may want to consider having an inspection more often than that just to make sure everything is
working okay and no big problems are

A Brief Biography of Ellen Degenres
Of French, English, German, and Irish descent, Emmy winning talk show host Ellen Lee DeGeneres
was born into a family of four in Metairie, Louisiana. At age 16 in 1973, Ellen DeGeneres s father,
insurance salesman Elliot Everett DeGeneres, divorced her mother, speech therapist Elizabeth Jane
Betty Pfeffer.1 Shortly after, however, DeGeneres s mother married salesman Roy Gruessendorf,
whom moved the family (which included DeGeneres s brother Vance) to Atlanta, Texas.
Ellen DeGeneres graduated from Atlanta High School in 1976. Then, she continued her education at
the University of New Orleans as a communication major; she dropped out after one semester. Ellen
DeGeneres claimed that that she was not book smart. 2
After college, Ellen DeGeneres subsisted on a variety of jobs; she became a clerk, a salesperson, a
waitress, a housepainter, a hostess, and a bartender. The origin of DeGeneres s stand up comedy
started in small clubs and coffee houses. However, Ellen DeGeneres s career was not jumpstarted until
1981, when she performed as the emcee for Clyde s Comedy Club in New Orleans. In the early 1980s,
Ellen began to tour around America; she was named as Showtime s Funniest Person in America by
1982.3 Consequently in 1986, DeGeneres appeared on The Tonight Show starring Johnny Carson,
whom compared her to Bob Newhart.4 Furthermore, DeGeneres was the first comedienne to be
summoned to an onscreen chat with Carson after her performance.5

Role Of Gender Stereotypes In The Media
Everybody is expected to fit a certain role in society just because of their appearance, race, gender,
religion and many more. This is called gender stereotypes. Gender stereotypes are displayed
everywhere. Some examples are through images, advertisements, videos, and many more. Even
though the media continues portraying the stereotype that women are supposed to be skinny and have
an hourglass body shape to be considered attractive, more than 60% of women naturally possess
different body shapes, making this stereotype illogical.
To begin with, an example of gender stereotyping is women aren t supposed to have a pear body
shape. The little fibber bra ad explains that a pear shape is no shape for a girl, even though girls
naturally have pear,

Message To Invasion Troops Analysis
The two poems To His Army Before His Defeat in Battle written by Catiline and Message to Invasion
Troops written by General Dwight D. Eisenhower, share a common theme, tone and purpose of
speech. Both poems clearly exhibit that their main purpose is to inspire and create a strong body of
people to lead each other through the endeavors of combat. Firstly, the two speeches share similar
themes because both contemplate and impose the ideas of strength and dedication, spread over a
specific group of people. The tone is generically passionate and keen; both authors intend to motivate
and influence their audience in a powerful manner. Conventionally, they share the same general
purpose of speech, which is to captivate the audience whom they are ... Show more content on

Both works express a sense of call to action which is why both authors mannerism is very intense and
fierce, which communicates the tone of urgency to the audience. In To His Army Before His Defeat in
Battle Catiline says, When I contemplate you, soldiers, and when I consider your past exploits, a
strong hope of victory animates me. Your spirit, your age, your valor, give me confidence...which
makes even cowards brave His ambition to innovate his audience is clear, creating a coherent tone
among the poem. In Message to Invasion Troops General Eisenhower states, The tide has turned! The
free men of the world are marching together to victory! I have full confidence in your courage,
devotion to duty and skill in battle. We will accept nothing less than full victory! These two quotes
create a distinct tone, which is common to both speeches; it establishes the significance in supporting
and protecting your country. The tone, which is one of urgency, ambition and power, is made clear
throughout each work, and is persuasive to the

  • 2. Similarities Between Maya Angelou And Langston Hughes Influential poems about civil rights Unequal conditions of people, groups, and situations have contributed to many societal, economical, and political issues. Unequal treatment or attitudes are usually applied to people of different race, gender, sexual prefaces, social status, and/or religion compared to the generally accepted situations of the people of a particular region. Unequal treatment is mostly applied to people of dissimilar ethnic backgrounds, which results in discriminatory treatment of the minority group. Many people have protested the inequalities that exist amongst groups. Of such people, the poets, Maya Angelou and Langston Hughes are most notable for their work towards bringing awareness and ending racial discrimination. Maya ... The rhetorical appeal of amplification is used by Maya Angelou through her use of the phrase I rise, using that phrase repeatedly allowed her audience to understand and feel the emotions she was trying to portray in her poem. The rhetorical appeal of common ground was used by Angelou through her use of the phrase of Bringing the gifts that my ancestors gave, I am the dream and the hope of the slave, (poets.org) the use of that phrase establishes the common ground of the civil rights movement. For her to continue by saying that she is the dream and hope of a slave is her reference to the successful outcome of the civil rights movement. By establishing the common ground of the beginning and end of the civil rights she has allowed herself to be relatable to many generations for years to come. Due to the fact that those who experienced the civil rights movement first hand and those who came after the movement are both able to relate to her poem is one of the main reasons her poem is such a success. In an in depth analysis of 146 organizations worldwide, workplaces evidencing bullying on a relatively routine basis made up 44% of the total analyzed. U.S. studies also suggest alarming prevalence rates. During any given 6 to 12 month period, up to 13 percent of workers are bullied on the job; this increases significantly when counting those bullied anytime during their careers .These numbers translate to millions of workers: According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics 136 million Americans were employed in July 2008. A decade later, the topic surfaced in England In 1991, a freelance journalist named Andrea Adams, brought the issue to public attention in Britain through a series of BBC radio posts; she labeled the phenomenon bullying. As a result of Adams work and public concern, interest in and the study of bullying intensified in the U.K. Although Scandinavia and the U.K. continue to lead in this area, bullying and mobbing research now includes, among others, scholars and professionals in Japan, Australia, and Canada. In the United States the history of adult bullying research has been less straightforward. U.S. psychiatrist Carroll Brodsky conducted one of the first studies of workplace harassment and subsequently published The Harassed Worker . Despite the groundbreaking nature of his work, the book stirred little interest at the time. Brodsky s research was revived in the early 1990s when interest surged in England. Around this same time, the study of human aggression expanded to include aggression at work, research that was centrally concerned with perpetrators. In the early 1990s, nursing professor, Helen Cox, began studying verbal abuse in medical settings when it appeared to be driving away gifted nursing students. Around the same time rare but highly visible occurrences of workplace murder sparked a massive amount of research that extended into the next two. We see cults where people have worshipped objects in a sacred way but, there are cults that do the opposite of committing sacred acts, these cults are called negative cults. Negative cults do not mandate obligations to be carried out by the faithful , they just prohibit certain ways of acting (304). However, that does not mean they do not follow prohibition; all religions and cults go by taboo. It is an annual commemoration of achievements by African Americans and a time for recognizing the central role of African Americans in United States history. Black History Month had its origins in 1915 when Dr. Cater G. Woodson and his colleagues founded the Association for the Study of Negro Life and History ( African American History Month, 2014). This organization is now known as the Association for the Study of African American Life and History. Through this organization, Dr. Cater G. Woodson played the greatest role in helping all Americans know the Black past by initiating Negro History Week in Washington, D.C. in February 1926 (Bunch, 2012). Dr. Woodson selected the week in February that included the birthdays of Abraham Lincoln and Frederick Douglass due to the fact they were key figures in the history of African Americans ( African American History Month, 2014). According to Bunch (2012), Woodson believed that the black experience was too important simply to be left to a small group of academics. Dr. Cater G. Woodson, a son of a slave, was born in New Canton, Virginia on December 19, 1875 (Bellis, n.d.). These two short stories, Eveline and Araby , are very similar in how both narrators seem to be in love with what characters that seem to be somewhat distant. Eveline and Araby are also similar due to their failed attempts at love, and the romantic illusions they have trapped themselves in. They are not entirely similar however due to the fact that the boy in Araby understood he caused his own undoing, whereas in Eveline , she did not blame herself. Also, the author, James Joyce notes that both protagonists in these stories live in a brown house. The are also different because of the perspective each short story is written in. Eveline however, is written from a third person perspective from an older protagonist that deal with issue that are a bit more serious. In Eveline the protagonist is afraid to run away from the past. Joyce expresses this well through his final two sentences of the story She set her white face to him, passive, like a helpless animal. Her eyes gave him no sign of love or farewell or recognition. This excerpt expresses the protagonists feelings when she is committed to not getting on the boat. This scene exemplifies a moment in which the protagonist seems to be in a slight shock as if the world around her is standing still. In Eveline the protagonist chooses to live with her pleasant memories of her old family she grew up with instead of unbounding herself from her currently abusive father, and running away to start a family of her ... • 10. The Sexuality Of Women s Sexuality There are certainly many different types of feminists with varying beliefs on various topics. Pornography is one of the most widely disputed of these topics, and has long caused controversy among feminists. Two clear, and distinctly different, sides have been taken by Andrea Dworkin as well as Linda Williams. The former of these two academics has taken the presumably more controversial stance. Dworkin is known for their radical stance that pornography only paints women as whores, as that is how they are seen in a male dominated world. She also is of the opinion that the depictions of female sexuality is accurate to how women are represented in real life: The valuation of women s sexuality in pornography is objective and real because ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This quote demonstrates not only Williams understanding of female agency but also that female sex workers often exist in contrast to some feminists. Moreover, Williams does acknowledge female passivity in traditional porn: Women, on the other hand, like slaves and boys, were the passive penetrated, who did not move, who were fucked, and who had no power to abstain (Williams, 368). Contrastingly to Dworkin, Williams acknowledges how pornography has changed from its conception, both in terms of how it is produced, as well as how the women are valued and portrayed in the industry, as she follows the story of Annie Sprinkle. It is the opinion of this author that Williams more accurately represents pornography than Dworkin. Based on the opinions of many authors explored in this unit, it would seem that the terms pornography and feminism could be considered antonyms. I am sure that many anti pornography feminists would sooner turn over in their graves before deciding that the two could be correlated. But is that necessarily true? I personally believe that aspects of feminism can be found everywhere, and can be applied in the strangest of places. It is for this reason that I believe that pornography has the capability to be feminist, though it rarely is. In its creation, women certainly were passive members who had no agency in their participation nor the consumption of pornography. Pornography was kept hidden and censored out of ... Through using Gothic themes and motifs, Austen creates an effective atmosphere but rather than creating a horrific and mysterious story from them, she clearly depicts the effects the genre had on young women during their time of writing. She shows the societal opinion of the Gothic, her own opinion of Gothic novelists, and how the genre can influence one s imagination. For Catherine, Northanger Abbey symbolizes an imagined ideal. As soon as she enters the abbey, she begins to think of herself as the heroine of a Gothic novel. Unlike Bath, which is simply a pleasant tourist town, the Abbey is a place of mystery and perhaps even adventure, at least in Catherine s mind. She makes the mistake of applying Gothic novels to real life situations; for example, later in the novel she begins to suspect General Tilney of having murdered his deceased wife. Pedro AlmodĂłvar s masterpiece of a film All About My Mother depicts the heart wrenching tale of a woman who has lost her son, then goes on the journey to fulfill her last wish to him, that is to tell him about his father. Contrarily, the film ends up being mainly a narrative about his mother, and all of the other motherly figures she encounters on this trip. Typical of an AlmodĂłvar film, the women are placed as the characters in the center of the action female subjects that the viewers identify with. Because of this, the film deals with women s issues. This film in particular discusses the notion of women as mothers and performers, and what purpose these actions serve for women. Through an analysis of the ways in which theses women characters interact with each other and the ways in which they express their care giving, we can identify how performance functions as a tool for women to connect with each other, as well as a way to declare and accept non heteronormative version of womanhood. First and foremost, All About My Mother is a film that places women at the center of the narrative. The women featured in the film are the principal characters that generate and incite the action within the plot. The Legal Drinking Age At The United States Of America Vinny Messina Professor Newell ENC 1102 03 May 2015 Time to Look at the Facts There have been many recent debates on the subject of the legal age to drink alcoholic beverages in the United States of America. Some otherwise intelligent people want to lower the legal drinking age to eighteen rather than keep it at twenty one, the current federally mandated drinking age. In Time Magazine Mary Cary, author of Time to Lower the Drinking Age, puts forth the position that lowering the drinking age would actually be beneficial to society. Though lowering the drinking age to eighteen may lead to solutions to underage drinking, many other, more dangerous issues may arise from teenagers who begin to drink earlier in life; this is the greater matter that and it should not be overlooked on this issue. According to Mary Cary, lowering the drinking age would not increase drunk driving and the deaths associated with it. She believes that the issue of drunk driving has already been addressed and that the problem no longer exists. She states that, Thanks to MADD, drunken driving isn t the problem it used to be, and she mentions that this is the case because, we now throw the book at drunken drivers in this country (Cary). He was a Charismatic Entertainer, Civil Rights Activist and an Avid Trash Talker. He was known as the man who could float like a butterfly and sting like a bee. Ali had a very unique fighting style which many believe gave him an advantage over his opponents. He combined speed with punching power. However, Ali s deadliest weapon was not his fists but it was his ability to break down his opponent s Psyche and exhaust them before throwing a fatal punch. This fighting style/tactic can be seen in the famous fight between George Foreman and Muhammad Ali known as The Rumble in the Jungle . During this particular fight in 1974, Ali Taunted Foreman using phrases such as: Hit harder! Show me something, George That don t hurt. I thought you were supposed to be bad . By interacting with players they force their audience to think critically about situations and to form opinions about the society around them. Games accomplish this through authorship and agency, which allows them record individual viewpoints. The construction of a game influences its value as a lasting work. The different constructions of video games (whether rhizomatic or maze like) results in different opinions being formed by the user. As Bogost mentioned in his article, The Rhetoric of Video Games, by using procedurality... [to] create possibility spaces that can be explored through play (125) creators of games can produce more agency in a game, which in turn allows the audience to make more choices. Tough decisions may then resonate with the audience, and cause them to form opinions about the game and society as a whole. A maze like game can be compared to a linear story. It is simple, with little flourish and little thought contributed by the audience. In general it has a clear beginning and end, is direct, and is easy to understand. In contrast, a rhizomatic videogame is like a non linear story. Audience members have to be engaged wholeheartedly in order to truly understand what is occurring and the meaning behind it. Most people assume that workplace diversity is about increasing racial, national, gender, or class representation in other words, recruiting and retaining more people from traditionally underrepresented identity groups. Taking this commonly held assumption as a starting point, we set out six years ago to investigate its link to organizational effectiveness. We soon found that thinking of diversity simply in terms of identity group representation inhibited effectiveness. Organizations usually take one of two paths in managing diversity. In the name of equality and fairness, they encourage (and expect) women and people of color to blend in. Or they set them apart in jobs that relate specifically to their backgrounds, assigning them, for example, to areas that require them to interface with clients or customers of the same identity group. African American M.B.A. s often find themselves marketing products to innercity communities; Hispanics frequently market to Hispanics or work for Latin American subsidiaries. In those kinds of cases, companies are operating on the assumption that the main virtue identity groups have to offer is a knowledge of their own people. This assumption is limited and limiting and detrimental to diversity efforts. What we suggest here is that diversity goes beyond increasing the number of different identity group affiliations on the payroll to recognizing that such an effort is merely the first step in managing a diverse workforce for the ... • 38. The Second Coming By W. B. Yeats The Second Coming by W. B. Yeats, was written in 1919 following World War I and was to present the idea that he thought that the apocalypse as presented in the Book of Revelation from the Bible was about to begin. The poem does not mention the second coming of Christ but rather focuses on the coming of the antichrist, meaning Yeats could only see despair, hopelessness, and chaos in the world. These sentiments of Yeats and others are due to war damages, collapsing economies, and the coming of the Great Depression and the Irish civil war. The word choice, meter, persona, subject, and lack of mention of Christ all collectively contribute to reflecting Yeats sentiments in the poem. Several lines in the poem support this mentality of despair and chaos. Turning and turning in the widening gyre refers to the worsening state of society with the collapse of democratic governments and economies. (1) The second line, The falcon cannot hear the falconer means that any sense of hierarchy and authority has been lost. The best people don t have the conviction to combat the growing evil and the worst, the sinners, are full of passionate intensity meaning the world is filled with those who wish to do evil. (7 8) These lines emphasize the corruption that the world is falling into. The selection of adjectives and nouns used in the poem carry a negative connotation reflecting the negatives thoughts of the state of the world. Yeats uses words such as blood dimmed, anarchy, ... Short short stories often have the effect of making the reader feel uneasy. When stories are short, a writer tends to jump directly into the story with something interesting or alarming to grab the reader s attention. Quite often, the more uneasy the writing, the more it leaves an effect on the reader. Sudden Fiction is a book filled with a collection of short stories from different authors; the maximum length of a story is three pages long. This not only causes the reader to feel ???? with the content, but also uncomfortable with the title of the literary work. Without a doubt, the short story that made me feel the most uneasy was Reading the Paper . On the other hand, the story that I felt more comfortable reading was The Reunion . First of all, Reading the Newspaper is about a women s average day, or at least it seems to be average from the way the writer portrays it. When she is talking to several people about the death of her family members, who had died the previous night, she is washing the blood stains out while doing her the laundry. This becomes shocking to a reader to read that someone is functioning as if something horrific did not happen. Typically, someone who has lost their family members, like this character, would not be in the right state of mind to do her laundry. One could assume that she is clearly traumatized.
