Math 213 Reflective Paper
Reflective Paper Math 213 Math 213 is a class packed full of information valuable to the development
of a professional math teacher. There were several major mathematical concepts addressed in the class
ranging from problem solving, numeration systems and sets, whole numbers and their operations, to
algebraic thinking, integers and number theory, rational numbers as fractions, decimals and real
numbers, and proportional reasoning, percents, and applications. This class enhanced my
understanding of math in general, as well as enabled me to explore strategies on how to best present
mathematical concepts in an elementary classroom setting.

It is up to teachers to give students the skills to set up and solve algorithms that will help to build their
math confidence and motivate them to expand on what they have learned.
Teaching the concept of integers and number theory is a fundamental part of math curriculum. The
ability of a professional mathematics teacher to tie in real world experiences, using hand on activities
and manipulatives is essential in enabling students to build on mathematic ideas and understand how
they interconnect. Also important is the concept of rational numbers as fractions, decimals, and real
numbers. Teachers need to help ease the transition from whole numbers by clearly explaining the new
rules and definitions students are unfamiliar with.
By teaching the importance of ratios, proportions, proportional reasoning, percents, and their real life
applications, teachers are giving students the skills they need to become productive members of
society. Proportional reasoning is one of the big ideas in math and if students are able to grasp this
concept, they will be able to apply it in many instances in their lives. Teachers can assist students with
this by providing interesting, well thought out problems that represent situations students will
encounter in the future.
This course influenced my philosophy on teaching math by helping me realize how important

John Wyndham s The Chrysalids
A major topic in John Wyndham s novel The Chrysalids is fear. While, trying desperately to protect
the community from what is unknown and also from the unorthodox ways of the Fringes, this attempt
of protection has initiated the growth of an uneducated society. But what s got them so agitated about
us is nothing shows. We ve been living among them for nearly twenty years and they didn t suspect it.
We could pass for normal anywhere. (Wyndham 131) In this quote them is referring to members of the

The House of Wisdom and its Contribution to the...
Part A: The purpose of this investigation will be to assess how the House of Wisdom contributed to
the preservation of knowledge. This question is important because it addresses the academic advances
with the Islamic civilization that lead to new information. To determine the extent of the contribution
to the preservation of knowledge, this investigation will examine the achievements al Khawarizmi
made in science and the achievements that were made in this library and how they were preserved
through time. The area of research will be focused during the time of the Islamic Golden Age, 750

Long before his reign, al Ma mun s great grandfather, al Mansur, began the translation movement.
This movement was the foundation of the House of Wisdom; it spread the idea that seeking
knowledge is a necessary factor of life to society. Among the many scholars working in the House of
Wisdom, there was Al Khawarizmi, known as the father of algebra. Born around 800 in Baghdad, al
Khwarizmi worked in the House of Wisdom as a scholar. Being involved in the center s translation of
ancient scientific knowledge helped him develop a unique knowledge of the accumulated wisdom of
the world. His importance lies in his discoveries of mathematical knowledge which was later
transferred to Arab and European scholars. His masterpiece, a book of clear explanations of what
would become algebra, was his entire life s work compiled into one collection of information. The
word algebra comes from the Arabic word, al jabr, which means completion . In his work, al
Khwarizmi explains the principles of solving linear and quadratic equations, the concept that an
equation can be created to find the value of an unknown variable. Another crucial work of al
Khwarizmi s was The Book on the Art of Reckoning of the Hindus, which introduced the numbering
system used in the Islamic culture to the west. This is the numerical system that is still used today and
offered many advantages over the existing Roman numerals. An

Essay on Graffiti as an Artform
Graffiti as an Artform The value of any message or work of art, whether it is hanging on the wall of a
gallery or a subway, lies on the intensity of the artist s or vandal s beliefs. Graffiti is an uncertain issue
in respect to its virtue. While the voice of the individual must never be lost in a society of shouts
growing larger and louder every second; graffiti is such a public medium that its integrity must be of
great concern. Graffiti is a vast wasteland of indefinite opinions. Foremost graffiti is illegal and a form
of vandalism, it invades peoples privacy and destroys their property. However, graffiti can be a means
by which one may permanently express one s self. It has the potential to convey a powerful, relevant

Even legitimate complaints about the behavior of some individuals should not be expressed in this
manner, they are to be judged within the walls of a courtroom not on the walls of a bathroom.
Another reason why people engage in graffiti is to shape their identities. They wish to leave a mark in
a permanent environment exclaiming to the rest of the world that they exist, that even though their
voices may be lost before politicians, parent, and peers they are real and the spraypaint is proof of this.
This form of graffiti is easily passed off as mere vandalism and considered an annoyance to our
society but when viewed with more compassion, it becomes clearer how important of an outlet this
form of graffiti is. Especially for today s youth (a generation that often feels insignificant) it is
psychologically important for them to have solid, material evidence of their own existence. Correlated
with identity based graffiti is another type called tagging. Tagging refers to types of graffiti that range
from stylized signature [tags] to mural size [pieces] that elaborately blend fanciful script, cartoon
characters and messages with the artist s street name (Beaty 43). This is a questionable form of
expression for it does not actually exhibit a need for acknowledgment but rather a recreational
engagement, an act of boldly testing the boundaries of the law in

Us Involvement In Vietnam Essay
On May 7, 1954, Viet Minh forces won the conflict of the Dien Bien Phu and
ended French involvement in Indochina. The Vietnam War and active U.S.
involvement in the war started in 1954. This victory led to the Geneva
Conference where the French and Viet Minh negotiated a ceasefire agreement.
Back in 1950, it was clear that the United States was not available in the war in
any serious way.
The North Vietnamese government and the Viet Cong were fighting to reunify
vietnam. They viewed the warfare as a colonial war and a continuation of the
first indochina war facing forces from France and later on the United States. The

the end of world war 2. A French colony indochina vietnam, laos, cambodia

The human costs of the long conflict were harsh for all involved. In 1995,
vietnam release its official estimate of war dead 2 million civilians on both sides
and some 1.1 million North Vietnamese and Vietcong fighters. The U.S. military
had predicted an estimated that between 200,000 and 250,000 south vietnamese

according to the official estimate of Hanoi in 1995, the number of civilian deaths
in the entire war were almost 2 million people, which is four time higher than
other estimates.
After the world war 2, the vietnamese expected the allies to support their claims

The Effects Of Plastic Surgery
Plastic surgery in today s medical world
Plastic surgery can be defined as the specialty in the medical field that involves the restoration,
reconstruction, or alteration of the human body. Plastic surgery can be separated into two groups:
reconstructive surgery and cosmetic surgery. The thesis of this essay is to examine these two types of
surgery and to examine the effect that it has on today s medical world, and what causes people to seek
plastic surgery. Reconstructive surgery includes craniofacial surgery, hand surgery, microsurgery, and
the treatment of burns (Garg, 2013). Reconstructive plastic surgery is done to correct functional

2009). Interior motivators consist of the yearning to reduce the unpleasant emotional state of
depression, embarrassment or social anxiety; the wish to modify a specific detested feature; the
longing for a more youthful, strong look that indicates fertility and the hope to generate a strong,
influential appearance that will simplify career progression (Wolfgang et al. 2009).
In the present, a cumulative number of cosmetic surgery procedures are done in doctors agencies and
separate clinical centers and more procedures are being carried out simultaneously (Wolfgang et al.
2009). This increases the risk of rare but potentially fatal infections and anesthetic reactions.
Furthermore, some consultants have not finished the full five years of residency training essential for
certification by the American Board of Plastic Surgery, but validly complete procedures, for which
they might be incompetently trained, purely to supplement their income (Wolfgang et al. 2009).
Complications in plastic surgery do happen. Complications of cosmetic surgery are infrequent, but
include contamination, haemorrhage, fluid and salt disproportion, and hypersensitive and anesthetic
reactions which are occasionally lethal (Chambers, 2009). This alone is a very lucrative business for
doctor s and surgeons, because they have to fix the mistakes that they make, or others has to fix said
mistake.
Furthermore, cosmetic surgery s popularity

Romeo And Juliet, Hamlet, And Macbeth By William Shakespeare
William Shakespeare was a playwright from the Elizabethan era who wrote famous plus such as
Romeo and Juliet, Hamlet, and Macbeth. He wrote about 32 plays, two major narrative poems, many
sequences of sonnets, and many short poems. Shakespeare s plays have been studied, performed, and
presented throughout the world. William Shakespeare was born on April 23, 1564 in Stratford on Avon
Warwickshire, England. William was the third of eight children to John Shakespeare and Mary Ardon.
Shakespeare grew up in a middle class family with a father who held many important titles in the
government. Shakespeare attended Stratford Grammar School. There he learned Latin a read ancient
Roman literature. He married Anne Hathaway on November 27, 1582. Shakespeare got married at the
age of 18 while Anne was 26. Together they had their first child Susanna six months after their
wedding, and Hamnet and Judith, twins, born in January 1585. Sadly Hamnet died when he was
eleven. He and his family moved back and forth from London to Stratford. He died on April 23, 1616
only a month after receiving his will. Shakespeare started work as an actor. He also wrote many poems
and found a lot of financial success with it. Despite the success he stopped writing poems and went
back to writing plays. His first play that got published was Venus and Adonis in 1593. It was printed

Love s Labour s Lost
Love s Labour s Lost
The Elizabethans thought of it merely as a wittie and pleasant comedie ; Samuel Johnson remarked
that all the editors have concurred to censure [it] ; and William Hazlitt opined, If we were to part with
any of the author s comedies, it should be this. It was not until well into the twentieth century that
Love s Labour s Lost really came into its own, and this fact alone may be enough to make a case for it
as Shakespeare s most forward looking play. It is its ending in particular, an unexpectedly grim
conclusion in which nothing is actually concluded, that has appealed to modern sensibilities and made
Love s Labour s Lost the Shakespeare play for the twentieth century. Trevor Nunn makes this point

Nunn s new production, however, breaks this tradition, radically altering the effect envisioned by
Shakespeare with the addition of a mere 30 seconds or so of extra textual material at the beginning.
John Peter s description perfectly captures the feeling of the opening moments: We are in a forest
clearing. The darkened Olivier stage is dominated by a bare beech, huge and ancient. Soldiers rush on.
Explosions, gunfire. This is the first world war. An officer...gets badly wounded. But this is Love s
Labour s Lost, is it not? A comedy, surely? This is indeed the reaction of the audience as Marcadé,
identifiable by his traditional all black costume, comes onstage (in the text, his first and only
appearance is his surprise entrance at the end) and says portentously, The words of Mercury are harsh
after the songs of Apollo (in the text, this line is also at the end and is Armado s). A kneeling officer
looks soulfully off into space, and the scene changes: foliage appears on the tree, the lighting comes
up to suggest dappled sunlight, merry looking people in Edwardian costume cross the stage, and the
first scene in the text finally begins, revealing the kneeling officer to be Berowne and Shakespeare s
entire play to be a flashback.
This added and adapted prologue, however brief, is quite significant: it lets the audience know from
the very start that all will not be well at the end, thus covering the entire rest of the play with a cloud

Philip The Fortunate Was A Very Good French King
Philip VI the Fortunate
Andrew Miller
10th History
12 27 16
Introduction
I think Philip the Fortunate was a very good French King. He was known for being the first French
king of the Valois dynasty. His reign saw the beginning of the Hundred Years War and the arrival of
the Black Death.
Body
In May of 1328, Philip of Valois became King Philip VI of France. In August of that year, the count of
Flanders appealed to Philip for help in putting down a revolt. The king responded by sending his
knights to slaughter thousands at the Battle of Cassel. Not long after that, Robert of Artois, who had
helped Philip get the crown, claimed the countship of Artois; but a royal candidate did so, as well.
Philip instituted judicial proceedings against Robert, turning his one time supporter into a bitter
enemy.
It wasn t until 1334 that trouble began with England. Edward III, who didn t particularly like paying
homage to Philip for his holdings in France, decided to flout Philip s interpretation of Salic Law and
lay claim to the French crown through his mother s line. (Edward was most likely spurred on in his
animosity toward Philip by Robert of Artois.) In 1337 Edward landed on French soil, and what would
later be known as Hundred Years War began.
In order to wage war Philip had to raise taxes, and in order to raise taxes he had to make concessions
to the nobility, the clergy, and the bourgeoisie. This resulted in the rise of the estates and the beginning
of a reform movement in

Analysis:
The 6°C had a rate of 0.133 kPa/sec for Trial 1 and 0.0015 kPa/sec for Trial 2, which averages out to
0.06725 kPa/sec. The 24°C had a rate of 0.083 kPa/sec for Trial 1 and 0.001 kPa/sec for Trial 2,
producing an overall average of 0.042 kPa/sec. The 34°C had a rate of 0.014 kPa/sec for Trial 1 and
0.0008 kPa/sec for Trial 2, which averages out to 0.0074 kPa/sec. In 46°C, both trials resulted in 0.00
kPa/sec, producing an average of 0.00 kPa/sec. Compared to 24°C, 34°C, and 46°C, the 6°C had the
highest rate of enzyme activity. At 46°C, there is no rate of enzyme activity. The graph presents a
direct relationship between the temperature and rate of enzyme activity. The line of best fits shows
that as temperature increases, the rate of enzyme activity decreases.
Conclusion:
If the enzyme is placed in higher temperatures than its optimal temperature, then the rate of enzyme
activity will decrease or possibly denature. This hypothesis is proven correct throughout the
experiment results and findings. In this experiment, once the enzyme was placed in a temperature
beyond its optimal temperature of 37°C, the enzyme denatured. This ... Show more content on

Wrought Iron Gates Research Paper
History of Wrought Iron Gates
As with everything in manufacturing and design, wrought iron has a long line of history. It has been
around for several centuries due to it s long lasting durability and beauty. Wrought iron unlike cast
iron is not brittle and can be beat in to elaborate designs when heated.
When wrought iron gates first came about they were all heated and molded by hand. In this day and
age you can still find several blacksmiths who will still do this by hand. However, most of the time it
is done in a factory so that they all look the same to provide a seamless look.
The first wrought iron gate was manufactured in the 18th century and was made for a cathedral. The
priest who didn t want a fence at all said that if there had to be one, he wanted it made from wrought
iron over any other material. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The first gate around the White House in the United States was made of wrought iron. This is because
it provided the security the White House needed. Other than knowing that wrought iron was extremely
durable due to the components that it is made of, they learned that it would be strong enough to
protect the White House due to an accident. This accident happened when a man lost control of his car
and almost crashed into a building. The only reason he did not crash was a wrought iron figure that
stopped him before he reached it.
Now days wrought iron gates can be found all over the globe. They are great for homes as well as
businesses. Not only do these gates provided durability and protection, but they also looked wonderful
while doing it.
One of the benefits people love most about this type of gate, is that the design possibilities are endless.

Formal Elements In Alfred Hitchcock s Psycho
Inspired by Alfred Hitchcock s reputable film Psycho, John Carpenter directed and scored the movie
Halloween, a low budget fictional horror film about an insane asylum patient, Michael Myers, who
escapes and returns to his hometown in Haddonfield, Illinois to murder his little sister Laurie. Filmed
on a scarce budget of $300,000, Halloween has grossed an astounding seventy million dollars since its
release. In the brilliantly directed film, formal elements are effectively displayed to give meaning to
the scene when Laurie enters the upstairs bedroom. The formal elements include Mise en Scene,
cinematography, and sound. The way in which these elements are combined gives extensive meaning
to both the scene and the film as a whole.

Sound is an effect that is commonly added in the editing stages of filmmaking. It is used to alter the
audience s mood towards what is happening in the scene. Due to the films low budget, the director
John Carpenter composed the musical scores himself. Although quite unusual, it worked out in his
favour and Halloween ended up getting large amounts of publicity due to Carpenter s risky and
inexpensive idea. The use of the non diegetic synthesized piano is common in horror films because it
provokes the audience to feel suspenseful and uncertain to what will happen next. It is used repeatedly
in the film to foreshadow upcoming events, such as when the masked killer is shown on screen.
Furthermore, when the masked killer Michael Myers is about to kill someone the normally tense and
eerie piano keys seem to be much higher pitched, which in a way informs the audience about the
incident before the characters know about it. Although the sound of the piano is an obvious sound
aspect of horror films, perhaps one of the most effective, and less obvious, uses of sound in the film is
silence. Quite often throughout the film we don t hear anything, which builds up the scenes intensity
without the evident sound of music. For example, right after Laurie witnesses the masked killer on her
property, we don t hear anything. The silence of this scene builds up the audience s expectations for
something

Starry Night By Vincent Van Gogh
A Cypress Tree in the Midst of the Stars
Vincent Van Gogh, the Dutch artist who painted Starry Night, was disrespected and unappreciated for
his works during his life. However, today he is considered one of the greatest Dutch painters. Today,
his work is known for its detail, beauty, and emotion. One might claim that Vincent Van Gogh s
painting Starry Night depicts his supposed insanity. However, his painting Starry Night depicts his
feelings of isolation, his feelings of alienation, and the appreciation he thought he would soon achieve
during his lifetime, though each of which do not necessarily depict insanity. Van Gogh s painting
represents his feelings of isolation. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Starry Night accurately depicts the feelings of loneliness that everyone can relate to at some point
during their lifetime. Van Gogh s works may not have received the attention they deserved during his
lifetime, but today his works receive the recognition they deserve. His feelings as a struggling artist
are apparent through the dark colors and the enormous cypress tree which captures the viewer s
attention. The darker colors represent darker feelings such as feelings of isolation and loneliness,
while the cooler colors represent sadness and depression. The colors are an accurate depiction of Van
Gogh s feelings. These feelings of depression and isolation led Van Gogh to the point of admitting
himself into an asylum. Of course, an asylum is not meant for interaction with other people, rather it is
meant to isolate the patients from harming other people or themselves because of their illness, thus
Van Gogh s attempt to alleviate his feelings of depression and loneliness seem in vain. Furthermore,
Van Gogh felt alienated from the other artists of his time. The little houses, for example, are all
painted with dark colors to express that the townspeople are asleep and ignorant to the feelings of
isolation that Van Gogh had. Lee claims in her analysis of Starry Night, [...] the sleepy village
represents the rest of the world, unaware of whatever raging passions and agony Van Gogh was going
through at that moment. Perhaps this [raging passion and

problems as an adult, Elizabeth proved to be one of the most remarkable monarchs in English history.

her relationship with her siblings under their power. Thirdly, I will examine religion and how it

She was beheaded and buried near her cousin, Ann Boleyn. In 1543, the King married for the last
time. Catherine Parr was a very good wife and stepmother. She encouraged Elizabeth and Edward in
their lessons and in their interest in the protestant church. King Henry died in 1547. Edward became
the king at the young age of ten. Elizabeth and Edward remained very close throughout his reign, and,
because they were not allowed to live in the same residence, many fond letters were exchanged
between them. Soon, though, Edward became ill. He, knowing he probably would not live much
longer, made a quick revision to Henry VIII s will. Mary Tudor (a catholic) was supposed to become
queen at his death, but he replaced her with his cousin, Lady Jane Grey, a protestant. After Edward s
death, Jane Grey was queen for ten days before the public rallied and gave their support to Mary. Jane
Grey was executed and Mary was declared queen. The nation was restored to Catholicism. Mary, to

Analysis Of Sartre s The Gambler Essay
Sartre argues that one breaks their resolution because of his/her freedom and anguish of the past. He
uses a gambler as an example. The gambler makes a resolution to stop gambling, but when he sees a
gambling table he rethinks the resolution. According to Sartre, the gambler is in anguish because of
his freedom to gamble. Sartre writes that the gambler perceive[s] with anguish that nothing prevents
him from gambling (Sartre, 70). The anguish provoked comes from the freedom to break the
resolution. The gambler made the resolution in the past to stop gambling, but when he sees the
gambling table he has to remake his decision because the resolution is not set in stone. He stands there
in nothingness as he contemplates what to do realizing that there is nothing in his way of gambling.
This freedom to make a new decision presents itself as anguish. It is a constantly renewed obligation
to remake the self which designates the free being (Sartre, 72). The gambler wants to no longer live in
the past through following the resolution, but instead wants to become his future self. If the gambler
changes himself his anguish will be removed for the moment. Although the outcome with the gambler
was not stated, it can be assumed that he started gambling again to remove the anguish. Some people
may look at the gambling as an addiction. These people would argue that it is not the anguish created
by the power of freedom that brings a gambler back to gambling, but rather the chemicals in

Designing AAutomation System Of The Appliances Located At...
We are proposing a automation system that allows multiple users to control the appliances located at
home or in any infrastructure through android application and from remote location. The system has 3
component those are mobile application to send message to hardware, second is server which stores
data related to user that can be user id, password, username, mail address of user, which also
maintains the update of messages those are sent to hardware, third one is arduino uno kit placed at
home or any infrastructure which actually controls appliances.
Keywords: : arduino uno board, cloud, android application, web server.
1. INTRODUCTION
Generally, when we go out of the house or company or any infrastructure we switch off the light or the
electrical equipments to avoid accidents such as short circuit, firing etc. but sometimes we forget to
switch off, so to do this we have to come back . This is wastage of time and creates lots of chaos and
tension. [6]So to avoid such kind of situation the latest technology coming up worldwide is the smart
home technology this comes under IOT. IOT offers huge number of applications in various
environments for improving the quality of our lives. Smart home is one in which all electrical
equipment around the home technologically automated with highly advanced automatic system. Smart
home is useful for everyone and can also be used in everyday life at home or company or any
infrastructure. Smart home is consisting of three parts

Local Self Government
Introduction
Local government institutions have always existed in India in one form or another since ancient times.
The present form of urban local government owes its genesis to the British rule. The initiation began
with Samuel Laing, member of the Viceroy s Council, in the Budget Speech (1861 62) proposing that
local services should be based on local resources. Lord Mayo s Resolution of 1870 introduced the
concept of elected representatives in the municipalities. Lord Ripon is considered the founding father
of urban local government as he implanted the concept of municipal authorities as units of self
government. His Resolution of 18 May 1882 on local self government dealt with the constitution of
local bodies, their functions, finances ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The government had a direct link with the peasants instead of the feudatories. The Chola kings had
adopted the Yuvaraja during king`s rule. The orders of the kings were written and copies of it would
be sent to respective departments and officers. The royal priest was the reliable advisor of the King.
Development of local self government was one of the most striking features of administration of the
Chola dynasty. The villages were given autonomy despite centralised system of governance. The
Chola officials acted as advisors to village assemblies and there was no interference in daily
administration. Thus there was continuity in village administration despite political upheavals. The
general assembly was classified into tax paying villagers, Brahmins and traders. The central
government officers examined accounts and supervised the work of the tax paying villagers. The
village assemblies received gifts from rich men or from king for developmental activities. The
feudatories were unable to impede in the village management. Their job was very clerical in the sense
it was a mere collection of taxes and passing the share to the King.
Elaborate and complicated mechanisms are the attributes of Chola administration. Administration
under the Chola dynasty was systematically conducted. Autonomy along with centralization was
moderately followed in each and every level. Revenue, justice, governance and military were given

Developing Applications Algorithms For Various Projects
Due to my previous experience working in developing optimized algorithms for various projects, I
was invited by my supervisor to join a large and challenging project to help a fast growing health care
company adapt to new working environment and develop a functional billing process. Fortunately,
during my college, I had courses and trainings that gave me the foundation to identify workplaces and
optimized algorithms for each one. Combined with years of experience, I was ready to show my
engineering skills in a large and challenging project. I attended multiple meetings with my supervisor
and other team members and we talked and brainstormed about this project for days. CE3.6 The first
step in this project was accurate data collection and I was responsible to observe the current process of
operation and gather as much data as possible that helps the team to develop the working processes for
smooth and optimized operation. In the first step, I introduced myself to the client s staff and
explained that I need to have access to certain data and operation procedures to get an accurate
understating about the current status of the company. It was a challenging step, because the data I
required from the company was often mixed with patient s data that made it impossible to share with
third party. Therefore, I decided that I would visit the company in operation and collect the data in
person. Upon my visit, I noticed the billing process and coding involves many parties including

The Achievements Of The Nobel Peace Prize
Winning the Nobel Peace Prize is an amazing feat and accomplishments that very few people receive.
Only two US presidents, Theodore Roosevelt, and Barack Obama have received the award. Roosevelt
was the first ever American to win this award. His life story and eventful experiences help shape him
as the person we recognize as an impactful person in history.
Theodore Roosevelt was born on October 27th of 1858 into a Dutch family living in New York. As a
child, he struggled with his asthma. Many of his family members called him Teddy , a name he wasn t
found of. However, that name latched on until people used his nickname to make a toy many of us are
familiar with, a Teddy Bear. His father, Theodore Roosevelt Sr., knew he was very intelligent but
thought he did not have the body to match. He told him to make his body by exercising, so young
Theodore did and became stronger. This led him to gain an interest in wrestling and weightlifting.
When Theodore became a teenager he also became interested in gymnastics and continued to enjoy
sports into his college years and beyond. Roosevelt went to Harvard College and spent 4 years there.
At Harvard, he studied natural science as his major at first, however when his father died he switched
his major to law. He excelled in sports and education and found a good balance between the two.
Roosevelt had an interesting and influential family that helped him be the person we know starting
with his first child. On February 12, 1884,

Observation Of Bar Culture
Hypothesis:
Bar culture is thought to be a free for all and a very egocentric society, that is highly alcohol charged
and a party scene. Due to this perception, it is often believed that bar culture is a society where there is
not much interaction with others besides the bartender and or the individuals that you are with. I am a
novice when it comes to bar culture for many reasons but one of the most profound factors is that my
family has a bad history with alcohol but my interest is peaked by this society due to it being much of
an adult playground. With my peaked interest and ignorance of this culture, I set out to find whether or
not the American bar culture is truly a free for all or if it is a fairly warm and welcoming community

The demographics of Guitars Cadillacs is obviously the majority of 21 years and older who are
coming to have a drink or two after work; given that I came on a weekend late at night the people
were mostly around my age and maybe a little older, there was a wide range of races, however, most
were white but again due to the dim lighting it was hard to always tell from a distance an equal
amount of both men and women were there too. However though on the third time I observed I
noticed a change in the diversity in the people this this time the age group due to the early of 7 pm
arrival the age group was around 40 and 50 whereas prior to that the age was 20s and 30s. Another
Interesting thing that I noticed was even minors were there as well (as stated above) due to the fact
that this bar on Thursday nights offers college night for students at the local colleges. Given the fact
that this is a West Texas bar in Abilene Texas there was a lot of individuals in cowboy hats and
western wear and the added fact that we were in oil field center professional area of the State the
majority of people seemed as if they were regular blue collared workers. I assume that the population
of the bar s major religious background would be fairly mixed due to the fact that not just one religion
goes to bars but rather it depends on the individual s desire to go drink but I assume that

Sex, Condoms And Other Methods Of Protection
How do you have sex? This paper isn t asking for specific positions but rather do you practice safe sex
with condoms and other methods of protection. A leader in the consumer world of safe sex is Trojan
brand condoms. A lot of people have heard of Trojan brand condoms. They are a leading brand in
many sex related items such as condoms and vibrators. Research of my own doing suggest that sex
related items isn t all they re selling in their advertisements. Trojan brand was founded by by Merle
Leland Youngs in 1916. Merle Leland Youngs was first working with the Fay and Youngs Company,
but went on to become the Youngs Rubber Corporation. Trojan Brand condoms use their commercials
to target young adults, therefore impacting the young minds in society, by enforcing the idea that
casual sex is ok as long as you have protection. When watching a Trojan commercial such as the
Trojan Double Ecstacy Condoms Commercial, one notices that there is no depth in the commercial,
just a young man and a young woman passionately kissing one another. The commercial gives them a
sense of just meeting; the setting looks maybe like they just came back from the bar and now they re
going to have sex. The commercial does not give of the we just came back from a respectable date
feeling. Instead the commercial is telling society that the time of dates is over. This commercial is
saying that people should just leave with strangers and have sex on their couch as long as you use
Trojan brand condoms.

Self-Destruction In Hamlet
Hamlet, a tragic hero with a feigned madness seeking revenge for his deceased father, kills everyone
in his path and finally succeeded in taking vengeance for the murder of his father by killing the
murderer, Claudius for good. Hamlet s consistent desire to seek revenge for his father s murderer, led
him to foreseeable yet tragic downfall. In Hamlet, Shakespeare utilizes the acts of revenge throughout
the play to show self destruction and confliction in through characters such as Hamlet.
The theme of revenge causing self destruction is established in act two of the book by Hamlet himself.
Hamlet proclaims: O, vengeance! Why, what an ass am I! This is most brave, That I, the son of a dear

How Did The Bible Influence British Literature
The KJV Bible is a book making book. The Bible has served for many purposes over the centuries and
holds so many genres in just one book. The Bible is very interesting because it we could fully
comprehend what was being taught. That s why the KJV Bible has had a tremendous effect on British
Literature throughout the centuries because not only did the Bible help to shape the English speaking
language but also has helped very famous British writers to use examples from the bible to help relate
to their topics in which they write upon. One of the most significant sources known as the KJV helped
shape the most common language known to man which is the English speaking language. The King
James Bible was a landmark in the history of the English language. The influence of this work has
been incalculable (Mcgrath 1). Literary scholars have heaped praise upon it (Mcgrath 1). Without the
Bible, the culture of the English speaking world would have been immeasurably improvised (Mcgrath
2). Until the Bible was translated, many English speaking Christians had to rely on their clergy to tell
them about such things (Mcgrath 2). Many learned biblical passages by heart, and found that their
written and spoken English was shaped by the language and imagery of this Bible, without this Bible,
there would have been no paradise lost, no pilgrim s progress, no Handel s Messiah, no Negro
spirituals, and no Gettysburg address. (Mcgrath 2). The King James Bible became part of the everyday

According to Miller just because Willy is a common man doesn t mean his falls are any less than a
king. Willy Loman, a formally successful salesmen, first shows signs of a tragic hero when he fears he
is being torn away from the image he wants to see himself in this world, which is a being successful.
He realizes this when he tries to show his son Biff early on the success is about popularity, but
ultimately he finds he cannot change his son. He no longer has popularity and Biff refuses to let his
father use him, so that he can have his popularity back. He has flashbacks of when he was living a

He is afraid that if he admits his unsuccessfulness, then all his dreams and desires will be diminished.
In the face of all this Willy tries to fight for his dignity by trying to make his son Biff follow in his
footsteps. Without his son becoming successful, Willy lost everything he had know and he felt lost in
society. He is unable to achieve the self knowledge of the tragic hero. He fails to realize that he failed
as a father and a husband. He can t grasp his true reality because he is too caught up in the illusion of
his life that his mind made up. His unwillingness to understand the depths of his failures and that his
American Dream is no longer alive leads to his torturous day. His real tragedy is where he completely
evaluates himself and justifies his suicide because it gave him sense of personal dignity by leaving an
inheritance that will allow Biff to fulfill the American Dream. Although Willy still never grasped that
his view of the American Dream, which is to be good looking and having a good personality will get

A Research Study On Global Variables
Above you see an extract from the log in page, showing the heavy dependence on $_SESSION
variables. These are required so much because they allow other pages to access the data. If I just used
local variables I d have no ability to transfer data between pages, and this is necessary to keep track of
things like who is logged in or if even anyone is logged in. All SQL queries come back as associative
arrays too, with each column entry being an element in the array, so they are very prominent.
There are many algorithms implemented in this project throughout to do various things, from checking
passwords securely to generating tables for the admin. I will analyse some of these at a later point.
Programming Techniques
Global Variables
Usually, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The more difficult questions require more time since they are harder and will take longer. The time
setting adjusts the time defined by the difficulty slightly.
You can see what the one and two letter codes mean by looking at the getqcode function on page 4.
Parameter passing
A good example of parameter passing by reference is with the SQL queries, particularly the
connection and result. Consider the following:
$con2 is a connection variable that provides access to the MySQL database. This is therefore clearly
passed by reference as well as $r, the result since they can have their contents modified by a function
and then be used afterwards. On the other hand, in the example above (get_time), the variables $time
and $diff are passed by value. They are disconnected from the original when they get passed, changes
to them will not affect the original.
Programming practice
One of the most important things in programming is readability and code style in general. It is good if
your code runs efficiently and correctly but if anything ever goes wrong with it, it will be a nightmare
to deal with if the code isn t formatted or named correctly. I have therefore tried to give all variables
meaningful names so that if I ever look back over the code or make changes, I will know what each bit
does. Commenting is also quite important. An algorithm you understood when programming it may
end up just looking

As defined on page 55 of the text Assault is a purposeful act that causes an apprehension of a harmful

they are at risk of imminent harm. Such an example would be if Tom threatens to hit Bob with a
baseball bat while holding a baseball bat and speaking in a serious manner. In this case, Tom has
committed the tort (and crime) of assault even though he does not eventually hit Bob with the bat.
This tort is closely associated with and often mistaken by the tort of

Yezidi Research Paper
While the Yezidi live mostly in Kurdistan and speak a dialect of Kurdish, they are not to be confused
with the Kurdish people. Ethnically, Yezidis are Kurdish but in every other aspect, they are certainly a
culture of their own. Primarily, the largest distinction for the Yezidi is their religion. Due to this, the
Yezidi people differ from most others in their society because of the differences that their religion
leads to. The kinship aspect of Yezidi culture is very distinct and relates to their religious beliefs.
Yezidi prevents any converts to their religion, Yezidism. In History of the Yezidi written by Kitab Al

Paula Black Unmasking Beauty Standards
Unmasking Beauty Standards: An Analysis Across Generations As women, we can alter our
appearance through the use of beauty products, such as makeup. According to Paula Black, author of
The Beauty Industry : Gender, Culture, Pleasure, When women put on a face, they continue to express
ideas of naturalness and artifice, authenticity and deception, propriety and danger, modernity and
tradition. Making up remains a gesture bound to perception of self and body, the intimate and the
social a gesture rooted in women s everyday lives (Peiss, 1998, p.27). (Black 7). In other words,
makeup can be used to alter a woman s identity. For example, during the Victorian era, men feared

Margaret, who was from the oldest generation, noted that when she was young, makeup was
something that women were expected to wear when dressing up. When I inquired if she still felt this
way, she agreed. I wear makeup on occasion, normally when going out to the bar and socializing with
friends or on dates. (S, Margaret). According to Black, women from this generation used makeup as a
tool to accentuate their feminine features. She explains Young women in the 1950s saw experimenting
with appearance as a vital element to their own developing sense of femininity (Black 36). What she is
saying is that during this period in history, women used makeup as a way to emphasize their feminine
characteristics. Another shift in the way we understand beauty standards happened in the generation
that Susan was born; during this time people began to recognize these change as a byproduct of our
culture. It is during the 1960s and 1970s that the fashion and beauty industry begins to receive
political critique. Prior to this date, although we sometimes see resistance to the use of cosmetics, and
criticism on moral grounds, the area of beauty had not been viewed as a legitimate political concern.
The phrase the personal is political is an echo of the way that appearance could no longer be seen

Earnings Process And Efficient Markets Essay
Earnings Process and Efficient Markets The premise of an efficient market is that stock prices adjust
accordingly as information is received. The speed and accuracy of the pricing changes are a reflection
of the strength of the market efficiency, where in theory a perfectly efficient market will re adjust
prices immediately and precisely with new information. The efficient market hypothesis aligns with
beliefs about whether technical and fundamental analyses are useful in making investment decisions
or whether a passive approach is appropriate. In a perfectly efficient market, these types of analyses
are not able to predict stock price trends (based on market inefficiencies or price abnormalities) which
could assist in portfolio positioning or investment management. However, some investors belive that
the market pricing is not precise and that there are timing windows and pricing trends that can be
identified through analysis of past performance and finding price abnormalities where all information
is not correctly reflected in the stock price (Hirt, Block and Basu, 2006). One method of testing
market efficiency is to look at the changes of stock prices in response to new information. Zack s

Impact Of Globalization On India s Economy
India is a nation that in recent years has been affected greatly by processes of globalisation. India has
truly felt the forces of globalisation as it has morphed the very nature of the nations economic and
societal processes.
Globalisation is defined as the integration between different countries and economies leading to the
increased impact of international influences on all aspects of life and economic activity.
In order to measure the impact of globalisation on India s economy one must consider the level of
economic development and growth in the nation, and also understand the difference between the two.
Economic growth refers to the increase in market value of the goods and services produced in an
economy over time. It is generally measured by Gross Domestic Product. Economic development
however, is a much broader term that refers to changes in overall well being and is measured using a
variety of quality of life indicators such as the Human development index. For hundreds of years India
has engaged in trade with far flung nations and as such globalisation is not a foreign concept for the
nation. However, in recent years as a nation that is quickly emerging as a new economic superpower,
globalisation has taken on an increasingly important role in the economy. As of 2011, India accounted
for 1.95 % of world trade , a figure that has only come about due to forces of globalisation having an
active impact on the Indian economy. India has been forced to trade extensively

Causes Of The Jewish Revolution Of 1848
One of the key factors of the Revolution was the rise of nationalism in the respective crown lands. The

sought the repeal of discriminatory taxes and legislation. They championed natural not national rights.
Secondly the new middle class worked under harsh conditions for little pay. They protested against
new technologies such as machines, at the same time, they lacked an cohesive agenda. Marx would
later attribute this to their lack of class conciseness in the Communist Manifesto. It should be noted

Yiddish as legitimate responses, thus further alienating the Jewish population. These new regulations
created a Polish majority in the Diet, under which both the Jews and Rutherians had limited suffrage.
It soon became evident to some members of the Jewish elite, that political consciousness was essential
to gaining freedom. In 1868, the first hint of a Jewish Nationalism movement appeared with the
creation of Shomer Israel in Lemberg. Though originally this was not a politically active group it
would later push for widespread Jewish

Maci Bookout
Great news is out, and Teen Mom OG star Maci Bookout is now in labor with her third child. This is
all happening on a crazy day because it happens to be her other daughter s first birthday. The Ashley s
Reality Roundup shared the details about Maci going into labor today. Her fiance Taylor confirmed
that Maci is in labor with their child that they plan to name Maverick McKinney. She went into labor
pretty late from what he shared, so it would be shocking if Maci ended up having her child on the
same day as her daughter Jayde s birthday. Either way, they will have their birthdays really close
together each year. This is the second child for Taylor with Maci. He shared a post on his Instagram
page that revealed that Maci Bookout was in labor and at this time they were still waiting on the baby
to get here. This will be the third child for Maci. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This should mean that hopefully the MTV cameras are filming the birth of her new child as well. Fans
really do want to see it on an upcoming season of Teen Mom OG. You can expect them to get at least
some of it on tape. Maci announced that she was pregnant back in February, so she kept the news
pretty quiet for a while. Maci shared that she has big plans to get some kind of permanent birth control
after this child and so this should be the last baby for Maci Bookout. She wasn t even planning on this
one, but Maci seems okay with it all now. Us Magazine shared that Maci Bookout actually went to her
Instagram to share a photo of her daughter Jayde on her birthday and wish her a happy 1st. In the post,
she said, Our smart, sweet, and oh so sassy baby girl is a whole year old today. Happy 1st Birthday
Miss Jayde Carter, you bring so much love laughter to our lives! Maci had also shared the details with
them earlier about their plan to name their

Family Is The Most Basic Unit Of Structure
Family, being the most basic unit of structure, plays an important role in societies worldwide. It is in
the household where future generations are nurtured and educated. Relatives do not only provide
company, but are also a helping hand in times of need. The family is a community, no matter how big
or small it may be. The idea of what constitutes a family varies across nations and cultures. Some
people differentiate between the nuclear family and the extended family, while others view both
components as one whole. Single headed homes are also a prevalent form of familial structure in
many places of the world. Certain families may have one male head with several wives and children
or vice versa. Although the arrangements and ideas of what ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

In earlier years, many grandparents died before the birth of their grandchildren or soon after. This was
due to the low fertility control and late marriages in nineteenth century North America. Couples were
bearing children at a much older age, shortening the mutual lifetime between a grandparent and a
grandchild. This generation gap also explained why most households barely contained any elderly
relatives. Another reason for the prevailing nuclear family structure is the high fertility rate. Parents
were producing more than one child and when those children got married and had children of their
own, the family would have been too large to reside in just one home. This forced the siblings to
create their own nuclear families once they got married and moved out. Shorter life spans and an
increased fertility rate, were the prerequisites for North America s nuclear family arrangement.
The Extended Family Sociologists Castillo, Weisblat, and Villareal go to a lengthy extent in order to
support the fact that a clear definition for the extended family does not exist , however, for the sake of
this research, it will be defined as being composed of any kin outside of the nuclear family. This
includes grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins, nephews, nieces, and in laws. Although not common in
the United States, the extended family format seems to prevail in other countries. The main reason
being that it

Benefits Of Electronic Medical Records
There are many reasons why some health care organizations have been reluctant to use electronic
medical records. First let s talk about, what is an electronic medical record. An (EMR) Electronic
Medical Record consist of standard medical and clinical data gathered in the provider s office which
include a more in debt patient history. EHRs are created to hold and distribute information from all
providers dealing with patient care. EHR data can be created, managed, and advised by authorized
providers and staff from across more than one health care organization. EHRs is another name for
digital paper chart that hold all of the patient s medical history from one practice. While expanding
daily, electronic medical records are becoming extremely popular. Research shows that some
healthcare organizations continue to be reluctant to purchase electronic record programs. The pressure
on hospitals, clinics, systems, physicians and other providers to get with the program is outstanding.
Cost is a major concern for single practitioners, which are least likely among physicians to adopt
EHRs. EHR systems are not cheap by any means. Physicians have to weigh the cost of not only
creating, but supporting their own IT structure and applications as well. The option to decide to use
external vendors to provide the services is given also. Consideration of cost include purchase price,
coordination cost, monitoring cost, and negotiating cost along with upgrade costs, and governance
cost.

Innovative Thinking Essay: Product Service System
It was amid a midyear break when the inverter at my place required an overhauling which was
expected by organization s arrangement. In any case, the organization lost a track of its past records
that demonstrated the third due administration. After a great deal of bothers and protests the issue was
settled. Notwithstanding, this occurrence made me end with that organization and joining another. A
large number of companies are unable to keep up the track of their administrations which causes them
a big time loss.
Each business plans to build its deal breaking its past records. Furthermore, the best way to do it is to
draw in new clients as well as to keep up them after deals. An organization that prioritizes its
customers will always be referred. The primary purpose behind the decrease of offers in an
organization is its absence of duty to give appropriate administrations to its clients. An enlisted
grumbling is here and there which is sometimes not attended by the organization which prompts
expanded grievances among the shoppers prompting decrease in the sales. Sometimes the organization
is not ready to keep up the record of the administrations of a client which prompts a more prominent
perplexity in the association. Another issue related to less customer satisfaction is the inability to solve
the problem on time.
One solution to this problem is to

Lee Lead The Army Of Northern Virginia
Lee lead the Army of Northern Virginia across to Potomac in Maryland in August of 1862. Reasons
for this invasion included taking pressure off the Shenandoah Valley The Breadbasket of the
Confederacy at harvest time; encouraging European support for Confederacy by winning a battle on
northern soil; and demoralizing Northerners to reduce their support for the war while encouraging the
salve holding state of Maryland to secede and join the Confederacy. Lee daringly divided his own
army and sent groups to capture objectives. On September 9, he issued Order No. 191 in which he
informed commanders of objectives and routes. Union soldiers of the 27th Indiana Regiment noticed a
bundle of cigars discarded on the ground in a field. Upon ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Late afternoon on September 16th, McClellan ordered Maj. Gen. Joseph Hooker s I Corps to
investigate the enemy across the creek. Brig. Gen. George G. Meade s troops attacked Brig. Gen. John
Bell Hood s men on the East Woods, causing a minor scuffle. McClellan planned out his attack as
artillery fire rang through the night. He decided to focus the strength of his force on East Woods to
overwhelm the left flank. Unfortunately, because of his order for Hooker s probing, it gave Lee a
strong indication of his intentions. McClellan did not thouroughly communicate the plans of attack to
his subordinate commanders. Instead, he gave directions for each of their corps, not including the
entirety of the plan. Due to the lack of information, commanders could not easily oversee happening
outside of their sector. This lack of proper coordination gave two consequences. First, the Unions
advantage of size, two to one, became less of an benefit as they were not as controlled as the
Confederacy. Second, the Battle of Antietam ranged between three phases in the coming day: a
Morning Phase, a Midday Phase, and an Afternoon Phase.
Morning
The Battle of Antietam began approximately 5:30am on September 17, 1862. Maj. Gen. Joseph
Hooker s men began their march towards the Church of Baptist Brethren, located between Hagerstown
road and the West Woods , which obscured Stonewall Jackson s Corps. On the opposite northern

Pearl In The Scarlett Letter By Nathaniel Hawthorne
Hester Prynne s daughter Pearl is one of the most complex characters observed in The Scarlet Letter.
The fact that such a small child can have such a huge impact on the adults in the story can be thought
of as ironic and thought provoking. Pearl goes against all of the odds that the community has set for
her. Everyone assumes that Pearl is a demon child because she was born as a result of the sin of lust,
and she does at times demonstrate signs of being peculiar. But Pearl, who was a dauntless child, after
frowning, stamping her foot, and shaking her little hand with a variety of threatening gestures,
suddenly made a rush at the knot of her enemies, and put them all to flight. (88). The reader is shocked
when we see that she ends up with ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Pearl s characteristics cause her to become paranoid about her possibly having demon or witch like
traits passed to her from her sin. The child could not be made amenable to rules. (77). This is the first
time Pearl s oddities are introduced to the audience. Hawthorne is foreshadowing her up and coming
childhood filled with strange actions and keen observations. Even as an infant, Pearl seems to be
aware of her mother s sin. But that first object of which Pearl seemed to become aware was shall we
say it? the scarlet letter on Hester s bosom! (82). Since the scarlet letter is what she was first aware of,
it could be said that this is where Pearl and the scarlet letter became one . To the Puritans, the scarlet
letter is a peculiarity and so is Pearl, so some comparisons can be made between the two. Her
exposure to the letter is a stepping stone for the growing fixation that she has to it as she gets older.
Pearl s awareness of the letter helps the development of the plot and keeps Hester on her toes, because
she rarely allows her mother to forget about it. Still came the battery of flowers, almost invariably
hitting the mark, and covering her mother s breast... (83) I see you here. Look! Look... Hester looked,
by way of humoring the child; and she saw that, owing to the peculiar effect of this convex mirror, the
scarlet letter was represented in exaggerated and gigantic

  • 2. Math 213 Reflective Paper Reflective Paper Math 213 Math 213 is a class packed full of information valuable to the development of a professional math teacher. There were several major mathematical concepts addressed in the class ranging from problem solving, numeration systems and sets, whole numbers and their operations, to algebraic thinking, integers and number theory, rational numbers as fractions, decimals and real numbers, and proportional reasoning, percents, and applications. This class enhanced my understanding of math in general, as well as enabled me to explore strategies on how to best present mathematical concepts in an elementary classroom setting. Since children learn differently than adults do, and do not have prior knowledge to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It is up to teachers to give students the skills to set up and solve algorithms that will help to build their math confidence and motivate them to expand on what they have learned. Teaching the concept of integers and number theory is a fundamental part of math curriculum. The ability of a professional mathematics teacher to tie in real world experiences, using hand on activities and manipulatives is essential in enabling students to build on mathematic ideas and understand how they interconnect. Also important is the concept of rational numbers as fractions, decimals, and real numbers. Teachers need to help ease the transition from whole numbers by clearly explaining the new rules and definitions students are unfamiliar with. By teaching the importance of ratios, proportions, proportional reasoning, percents, and their real life applications, teachers are giving students the skills they need to become productive members of society. Proportional reasoning is one of the big ideas in math and if students are able to grasp this concept, they will be able to apply it in many instances in their lives. Teachers can assist students with this by providing interesting, well thought out problems that represent situations students will encounter in the future. This course influenced my philosophy on teaching math by helping me realize how important ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This question is important because it addresses the academic advances with the Islamic civilization that lead to new information. To determine the extent of the contribution to the preservation of knowledge, this investigation will examine the achievements al Khawarizmi made in science and the achievements that were made in this library and how they were preserved through time. Long before his reign, al Ma mun s great grandfather, al Mansur, began the translation movement. This movement was the foundation of the House of Wisdom; it spread the idea that seeking knowledge is a necessary factor of life to society. Among the many scholars working in the House of Wisdom, there was Al Khawarizmi, known as the father of algebra. Born around 800 in Baghdad, al Khwarizmi worked in the House of Wisdom as a scholar. Being involved in the center s translation of ancient scientific knowledge helped him develop a unique knowledge of the accumulated wisdom of the world. His importance lies in his discoveries of mathematical knowledge which was later transferred to Arab and European scholars. His masterpiece, a book of clear explanations of what would become algebra, was his entire life s work compiled into one collection of information. The word algebra comes from the Arabic word, al jabr, which means completion . In his work, al Khwarizmi explains the principles of solving linear and quadratic equations, the concept that an equation can be created to find the value of an unknown variable. Another crucial work of al Khwarizmi s was The Book on the Art of Reckoning of the Hindus, which introduced the numbering system used in the Islamic culture to the west. Essay on Graffiti as an Artform Graffiti as an Artform The value of any message or work of art, whether it is hanging on the wall of a gallery or a subway, lies on the intensity of the artist s or vandal s beliefs. Graffiti is an uncertain issue in respect to its virtue. While the voice of the individual must never be lost in a society of shouts growing larger and louder every second; graffiti is such a public medium that its integrity must be of great concern. Graffiti is a vast wasteland of indefinite opinions. Foremost graffiti is illegal and a form of vandalism, it invades peoples privacy and destroys their property. Even legitimate complaints about the behavior of some individuals should not be expressed in this manner, they are to be judged within the walls of a courtroom not on the walls of a bathroom. Another reason why people engage in graffiti is to shape their identities. They wish to leave a mark in a permanent environment exclaiming to the rest of the world that they exist, that even though their voices may be lost before politicians, parent, and peers they are real and the spraypaint is proof of this. This form of graffiti is easily passed off as mere vandalism and considered an annoyance to our society but when viewed with more compassion, it becomes clearer how important of an outlet this form of graffiti is. Especially for today s youth (a generation that often feels insignificant) it is psychologically important for them to have solid, material evidence of their own existence. Correlated with identity based graffiti is another type called tagging. Tagging refers to types of graffiti that range from stylized signature [tags] to mural size [pieces] that elaborately blend fanciful script, cartoon characters and messages with the artist s street name (Beaty 43). This is a questionable form of expression for it does not actually exhibit a need for acknowledgment but rather a recreational engagement, an act of boldly testing the boundaries of the law in ... In the present, a cumulative number of cosmetic surgery procedures are done in doctors agencies and separate clinical centers and more procedures are being carried out simultaneously (Wolfgang et al. 2009). Love s Labour s Lost Love s Labour s Lost The Elizabethans thought of it merely as a wittie and pleasant comedie ; Samuel Johnson remarked that all the editors have concurred to censure [it] ; and William Hazlitt opined, If we were to part with any of the author s comedies, it should be this. It was not until well into the twentieth century that Love s Labour s Lost really came into its own, and this fact alone may be enough to make a case for it as Shakespeare s most forward looking play. It is its ending in particular, an unexpectedly grim conclusion in which nothing is actually concluded, that has appealed to modern sensibilities and made Love s Labour s Lost the Shakespeare play for the twentieth century. Trevor Nunn makes this point emphatically ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Nunn s new production, however, breaks this tradition, radically altering the effect envisioned by Shakespeare with the addition of a mere 30 seconds or so of extra textual material at the beginning. John Peter s description perfectly captures the feeling of the opening moments: We are in a forest clearing. The darkened Olivier stage is dominated by a bare beech, huge and ancient. Soldiers rush on. Explosions, gunfire. This is the first world war. An officer...gets badly wounded. But this is Love s Labour s Lost, is it not? A comedy, surely? This is indeed the reaction of the audience as Marcadé, identifiable by his traditional all black costume, comes onstage (in the text, his first and only appearance is his surprise entrance at the end) and says portentously, The words of Mercury are harsh after the songs of Apollo (in the text, this line is also at the end and is Armado s). A kneeling officer looks soulfully off into space, and the scene changes: foliage appears on the tree, the lighting comes up to suggest dappled sunlight, merry looking people in Edwardian costume cross the stage, and the first scene in the text finally begins, revealing the kneeling officer to be Berowne and Shakespeare s entire play to be a flashback. This added and adapted prologue, however brief, is quite significant: it lets the audience know from the very start that all will not be well at the end, thus covering the entire rest of the play with a cloud ... • 13. Philip The Fortunate Was A Very Good French King Philip VI the Fortunate Andrew Miller 10th History 12 27 16 Introduction I think Philip the Fortunate was a very good French King. He was known for being the first French king of the Valois dynasty. His reign saw the beginning of the Hundred Years War and the arrival of the Black Death. Body In May of 1328, Philip of Valois became King Philip VI of France. In August of that year, the count of Flanders appealed to Philip for help in putting down a revolt. The king responded by sending his knights to slaughter thousands at the Battle of Cassel. Not long after that, Robert of Artois, who had helped Philip get the crown, claimed the countship of Artois; but a royal candidate did so, as well. Philip instituted judicial proceedings against Robert, turning his one time supporter into a bitter enemy. It wasn t until 1334 that trouble began with England. Edward III, who didn t particularly like paying homage to Philip for his holdings in France, decided to flout Philip s interpretation of Salic Law and lay claim to the French crown through his mother s line. (Edward was most likely spurred on in his animosity toward Philip by Robert of Artois.) In 1337 Edward landed on French soil, and what would later be known as Hundred Years War began. In order to wage war Philip had to raise taxes, and in order to raise taxes he had to make concessions to the nobility, the clergy, and the bourgeoisie. The 34°C had a rate of 0.014 kPa/sec for Trial 1 and 0.0008 kPa/sec for Trial 2, which averages out to 0.0074 kPa/sec. In 46°C, both trials resulted in 0.00 kPa/sec, producing an average of 0.00 kPa/sec. Compared to 24°C, 34°C, and 46°C, the 6°C had the highest rate of enzyme activity. At 46°C, there is no rate of enzyme activity. The graph presents a direct relationship between the temperature and rate of enzyme activity. The line of best fits shows that as temperature increases, the rate of enzyme activity decreases. Conclusion: If the enzyme is placed in higher temperatures than its optimal temperature, then the rate of enzyme activity will decrease or possibly denature. It has been around for several centuries due to it s long lasting durability and beauty. Wrought iron unlike cast iron is not brittle and can be beat in to elaborate designs when heated. When wrought iron gates first came about they were all heated and molded by hand. In this day and age you can still find several blacksmiths who will still do this by hand. However, most of the time it is done in a factory so that they all look the same to provide a seamless look. Formal Elements In Alfred Hitchcock s Psycho Inspired by Alfred Hitchcock s reputable film Psycho, John Carpenter directed and scored the movie Halloween, a low budget fictional horror film about an insane asylum patient, Michael Myers, who escapes and returns to his hometown in Haddonfield, Illinois to murder his little sister Laurie. Filmed on a scarce budget of $300,000, Halloween has grossed an astounding seventy million dollars since its release. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Sound is an effect that is commonly added in the editing stages of filmmaking. It is used to alter the audience s mood towards what is happening in the scene. Due to the films low budget, the director John Carpenter composed the musical scores himself. Although quite unusual, it worked out in his favour and Halloween ended up getting large amounts of publicity due to Carpenter s risky and inexpensive idea. The use of the non diegetic synthesized piano is common in horror films because it provokes the audience to feel suspenseful and uncertain to what will happen next. It is used repeatedly in the film to foreshadow upcoming events, such as when the masked killer is shown on screen. Furthermore, when the masked killer Michael Myers is about to kill someone the normally tense and eerie piano keys seem to be much higher pitched, which in a way informs the audience about the incident before the characters know about it. Although the sound of the piano is an obvious sound aspect of horror films, perhaps one of the most effective, and less obvious, uses of sound in the film is silence. Quite often throughout the film we don t hear anything, which builds up the scenes intensity without the evident sound of music. For example, right after Laurie witnesses the masked killer on her property, we don t hear anything. The silence of this scene builds up the audience s expectations for something ... Starry Night accurately depicts the feelings of loneliness that everyone can relate to at some point during their lifetime. Van Gogh s works may not have received the attention they deserved during his lifetime, but today his works receive the recognition they deserve. His feelings as a struggling artist are apparent through the dark colors and the enormous cypress tree which captures the viewer s attention. The darker colors represent darker feelings such as feelings of isolation and loneliness, while the cooler colors represent sadness and depression. The colors are an accurate depiction of Van Gogh s feelings. These feelings of depression and isolation led Van Gogh to the point of admitting himself into an asylum. Of course, an asylum is not meant for interaction with other people, rather it is meant to isolate the patients from harming other people or themselves because of their illness, thus Van Gogh s attempt to alleviate his feelings of depression and loneliness seem in vain. Furthermore, Van Gogh felt alienated from the other artists of his time. The little houses, for example, are all painted with dark colors to express that the townspeople are asleep and ignorant to the feelings of isolation that Van Gogh had. Firstly, I will discuss Elizabeth s family (including her many stepmothers), and then I will talk about her relationship with her siblings under their power. Thirdly, I will examine religion and how it affected her opinions and politics during her reign. Lastly, I will look at foreign politics of the time and some of Elizabeth s decisions ... She encouraged Elizabeth and Edward in their lessons and in their interest in the protestant church. King Henry died in 1547. Edward became the king at the young age of ten. Elizabeth and Edward remained very close throughout his reign, and, because they were not allowed to live in the same residence, many fond letters were exchanged between them. Soon, though, Edward became ill. He, knowing he probably would not live much longer, made a quick revision to Henry VIII s will. Mary Tudor (a catholic) was supposed to become queen at his death, but he replaced her with his cousin, Lady Jane Grey, a protestant. After Edward s death, Jane Grey was queen for ten days before the public rallied and gave their support to Mary. Jane Grey was executed and Mary was declared queen. The nation was restored to Catholicism. Mary, to begin with, was polite to Elizabeth. Mary looked at her sister with warmth and tolerance, provided her reconciliation to the Church could be brought about, Mary was ready, not entirely to trust her, but to treat her with sisterly kindness (Jenkins, 1965, p. 41). Elizabeth outwardly converted to Catholicism for Mary, though she remained a protestant on the inside. Mary s kindness to Elizabeth gradually disappeared. • 20. Analysis Of Sartre s The Gambler Essay Sartre argues that one breaks their resolution because of his/her freedom and anguish of the past. He uses a gambler as an example. The gambler makes a resolution to stop gambling, but when he sees a gambling table he rethinks the resolution. According to Sartre, the gambler is in anguish because of his freedom to gamble. Sartre writes that the gambler perceive[s] with anguish that nothing prevents him from gambling (Sartre, 70). The anguish provoked comes from the freedom to break the resolution. The gambler made the resolution in the past to stop gambling, but when he sees the gambling table he has to remake his decision because the resolution is not set in stone. He stands there in nothingness as he contemplates what to do realizing that there is nothing in his way of gambling. This freedom to make a new decision presents itself as anguish. It is a constantly renewed obligation to remake the self which designates the free being (Sartre, 72). The gambler wants to no longer live in the past through following the resolution, but instead wants to become his future self. If the gambler changes himself his anguish will be removed for the moment. Although the outcome with the gambler was not stated, it can be assumed that he started gambling again to remove the anguish. Some people may look at the gambling as an addiction. These people would argue that it is not the anguish created by the power of freedom that brings a gambler back to gambling, but rather the chemicals in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Theodore Roosevelt was born on October 27th of 1858 into a Dutch family living in New York. As a child, he struggled with his asthma. This led him to gain an interest in wrestling and weightlifting. When Theodore became a teenager he also became interested in gymnastics and continued to enjoy sports into his college years and beyond. Roosevelt went to Harvard College and spent 4 years there. At Harvard, he studied natural science as his major at first, however when his father died he switched his major to law. He excelled in sports and education and found a good balance between the two. The speed and accuracy of the pricing changes are a reflection of the strength of the market efficiency, where in theory a perfectly efficient market will re adjust prices immediately and precisely with new information. The efficient market hypothesis aligns with beliefs about whether technical and fundamental analyses are useful in making investment decisions or whether a passive approach is appropriate. In a perfectly efficient market, these types of analyses are not able to predict stock price trends (based on market inefficiencies or price abnormalities) which could assist in portfolio positioning or investment management. However, some investors belive that the market pricing is not precise and that there are timing windows and pricing trends that can be identified through analysis of past performance and finding price abnormalities where all information is not correctly reflected in the stock price (Hirt, Block and Basu, 2006). One method of testing market efficiency is to look at the changes of stock prices in response to new information. The various ethnic groups of the Habsburg Empire for national recognition. The Jews on the other hand sought the repeal of discriminatory taxes and legislation. They championed natural not national rights. Secondly the new middle class worked under harsh conditions for little pay. They protested against new technologies such as machines, at the same time, they lacked an cohesive agenda. Marx would later attribute this to their lack of class conciseness in the Communist Manifesto. It should be noted that most of these workers were reeling against Jewish industrial leaders, so it is safe to say that the Jews did not play an active role ... One of the requirements of holding office, was to fall under a nationally recognized language. This was calculated in the new census procedures, in which citizens had to list both their language and associated nationality. The Census did not consider Jewish or Yiddish as legitimate responses, thus further alienating the Jewish population. These new regulations created a Polish majority in the Diet, under which both the Jews and Rutherians had limited suffrage. It soon became evident to some members of the Jewish elite, that political consciousness was essential to gaining freedom. In 1868, the first hint of a Jewish Nationalism movement appeared with the creation of Shomer Israel in Lemberg. It is in the household where future generations are nurtured and educated. Relatives do not only provide company, but are also a helping hand in times of need. The family is a community, no matter how big or small it may be. The idea of what constitutes a family varies across nations and cultures. Some people differentiate between the nuclear family and the extended family, while others view both components as one whole. Single headed homes are also a prevalent form of familial structure in many places of the world. Certain families may have one male head with several wives and children or vice versa. Although the arrangements and ideas of what ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In earlier years, many grandparents died before the birth of their grandchildren or soon after. This was due to the low fertility control and late marriages in nineteenth century North America. Couples were bearing children at a much older age, shortening the mutual lifetime between a grandparent and a grandchild. This generation gap also explained why most households barely contained any elderly relatives. Another reason for the prevailing nuclear family structure is the high fertility rate. Parents were producing more than one child and when those children got married and had children of their own, the family would have been too large to reside in just one home. This forced the siblings to create their own nuclear families once they got married and moved out. Shorter life spans and an increased fertility rate, were the prerequisites for North America s nuclear family arrangement. The Extended Family Sociologists Castillo, Weisblat, and Villareal go to a lengthy extent in order to support the fact that a clear definition for the extended family does not exist , however, for the sake of this research, it will be defined as being composed of any kin outside of the nuclear family. This includes grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins, nephews, nieces, and in laws. Although not common in the United States, the extended family format seems to prevail in other countries. • 45. Benefits Of Electronic Medical Records There are many reasons why some health care organizations have been reluctant to use electronic medical records. First let s talk about, what is an electronic medical record. An (EMR) Electronic Medical Record consist of standard medical and clinical data gathered in the provider s office which include a more in debt patient history. EHRs are created to hold and distribute information from all providers dealing with patient care. EHR data can be created, managed, and advised by authorized providers and staff from across more than one health care organization. EHRs is another name for digital paper chart that hold all of the patient s medical history from one practice. While expanding daily, electronic medical records are becoming extremely popular. Research shows that some healthcare organizations continue to be reluctant to purchase electronic record programs. The pressure on hospitals, clinics, systems, physicians and other providers to get with the program is outstanding. Cost is a major concern for single practitioners, which are least likely among physicians to adopt EHRs. EHR systems are not cheap by any means. Physicians have to weigh the cost of not only creating, but supporting their own IT structure and applications as well. The option to decide to use external vendors to provide the services is given also. Consideration of cost include purchase price, coordination cost, monitoring cost, and negotiating cost along with upgrade costs, and governance cost. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Reasons for this invasion included taking pressure off the Shenandoah Valley The Breadbasket of the Confederacy at harvest time; encouraging European support for Confederacy by winning a battle on northern soil; and demoralizing Northerners to reduce their support for the war while encouraging the salve holding state of Maryland to secede and join the Confederacy. Lee daringly divided his own army and sent groups to capture objectives. On September 9, he issued Order No. 191 in which he informed commanders of objectives and routes. Late afternoon on September 16th, McClellan ordered Maj. Gen. Joseph Hooker s I Corps to investigate the enemy across the creek. Brig. Gen. George G. Meade s troops attacked Brig. Gen. John Bell Hood s men on the East Woods, causing a minor scuffle. McClellan planned out his attack as artillery fire rang through the night. He decided to focus the strength of his force on East Woods to overwhelm the left flank. Unfortunately, because of his order for Hooker s probing, it gave Lee a strong indication of his intentions. McClellan did not thouroughly communicate the plans of attack to his subordinate commanders. Instead, he gave directions for each of their corps, not including the entirety of the plan. Due to the lack of information, commanders could not easily oversee happening outside of their sector. This lack of proper coordination gave two consequences. First, the Unions advantage of size, two to one, became less of an benefit as they were not as controlled as the Confederacy. • 49. Pearl In The Scarlett Letter By Nathaniel Hawthorne Hester Prynne s daughter Pearl is one of the most complex characters observed in The Scarlet Letter. The fact that such a small child can have such a huge impact on the adults in the story can be thought of as ironic and thought provoking. Pearl goes against all of the odds that the community has set for her. Everyone assumes that Pearl is a demon child because she was born as a result of the sin of lust, and she does at times demonstrate signs of being peculiar. But Pearl, who was a dauntless child, after frowning, stamping her foot, and shaking her little hand with a variety of threatening gestures, suddenly made a rush at the knot of her enemies, and put them all to flight. (88). The reader is shocked when we see that she ends up with ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Pearl s characteristics cause her to become paranoid about her possibly having demon or witch like traits passed to her from her sin. The child could not be made amenable to rules. (77). This is the first time Pearl s oddities are introduced to the audience. Hawthorne is foreshadowing her up and coming childhood filled with strange actions and keen observations. Even as an infant, Pearl seems to be aware of her mother s sin. But that first object of which Pearl seemed to become aware was shall we say it? the scarlet letter on Hester s bosom! (82). Since the scarlet letter is what she was first aware of, it could be said that this is where Pearl and the scarlet letter became one . To the Puritans, the scarlet letter is a peculiarity and so is Pearl, so some comparisons can be made between the two. Her exposure to the letter is a stepping stone for the growing fixation that she has to it as she gets older. Pearl s awareness of the letter helps the development of the plot and keeps Hester on her toes, because she rarely allows her mother to forget about it. Still came the battery of flowers, almost invariably hitting the mark, and covering her mother s breast... (83) I see you here. Look! Look...
