The Benefits Of Title IX
Federal financial assistance. Title IX has been successful in providing athletic opportunities for
women. Title IX increased the amount of women participants significantly over the years and the
legislation serves as a standard for college programs to abide by they want to keep federal funding.
The passing of Title IX created a monumental shift collegeand high schoolathletics. After Title IX
passed there were changes such as the University of Michigan going from an institution which only
had male college programs to having ten femaleathletic programs in the span of five years
(Rothman). I feel like Title IX has been successful in providing opportunities for women since
without it there probably would have been very limited change. Dr.

Analysis Of The Poem Battle Royal
The primary method for judging the worth of a piece of literature is its organic unity or the
complex way all the elements of a test contribute to a story s meaning. The images, symbols, and
metaphors in Ellison s Battle Royal give this story a whole new meaning. In 1947, when this
short story was published, the black community was at an all time low. The main aspects of this
piece have ambiguous meanings behind them. The grandfather s death scene, the naked dancer,
the battle royal, the narrator s speech, and the narrator s dream all have significant symbolism.
The grandfather s death had a major impact on the narrator s life. As the grandfather passed away
he stated, Son, after I m gone I want you to keep up the good fight... Live with your head in the
lion s mouth... Let em swoller you till they vomit or bust wide open (Ellison, 1495). These
words seem to act as spiritual guidance for the narrator. Throughout the story the readers see the
narrator refer back to these words. The grandfather dies with a legacy that haunts blacks
regardless of social, political, and economic progress. The social, political, and economic system
is seen when the naked blonde s erotic dance is described. Overall, this scene represents America s
distorted value system. The symbolism made by flag tattoo on the dancer is actually a depiction of
the relentless pursuit of money, sex, and power. The men, in the room where the dancing took
place, were not considerate of the dancer s

Contrasting Themes In David Lynch s Film Blue Velvet
Contrasting Themes in Blue Velvet
The subconscious psyche is one of the most fascinating and almost completely inexplicable aspects
of human behavior. Even more intriguing than merely the subconscious is the notion of a darker,
more repressed side that many individuals refuse to acknowledge exists within them. In David
Lynch s film Blue Velvet, the director attempts to explore the psyche of a young man named
Jeffrey Beaumont, most notably the clash between his darker side and good side for the first time
in his life. Using themes that sharply contrast one another, Lynch provides insight into the
character of Jeffrey and the struggle that he is faced with. Jeffrey is in a transitional period of his
life, not very old, and is on a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The gun on the television is in direct contrast to what has been taking place visually up to this
point. The mise en scene has been depicting an idealized American town, and yet the image of a
gun is used as an allusion to something more sinister lurking within the town, with the interior of
Jeffrey s house perhaps representing the inner sanctum of Jeffrey s subconscious. From here, Lynch
cuts back to the long shot of Jeffrey s father watering the lawn, followed by a close up of the faucet
where the hose is connected. Suddenly, the cuts are very rapid and the camera cuts between
close ups of the hose, the faucet, and Jeffrey s father, who eventually keels over in an apparent
stroke. This is followed by a long shot of a dog attempting to bite the water spraying out of the
hose, with a cut to a close up of the dog doing this behavior in slow motion. Slowly, the non
digetic sound of Blue Velvet fades out, giving way to an unintelligible and faint sound which
appears to be non digetic as well. However, the camera zooms into an extreme close up of the grass
and tracks through the grass as well, with the unintelligible noise increasing in volume. The shot
then dissolves to reveal an entire population of cockroaches infesting the soil, and what had
previously been non digetic sound has now become the loud, digetic sound of the insects
movement. Immediately, there is a cut to an establishing

Manichaean Dualism In The Hobbit
J.R.R Tolkien s writing consists of a variety of different mythological influences ranging from
Greco Roman, Norse, and Scandinavian. Thought these sources do shape the narrative of Tolkien s
writing and of Middle Earth as a whole, most prominent inspirations of his mythos is derived from
Christian theology in the Bible. Traces of biblical influence can be found throughout The Hobbit,
The Lord of the Ringstrilogy and The Silmarillion, particularly in each of these texts conception of
good and evil. Some have argued that the morality presented in his works are akin to Manichaean
dualism. In this essay, I shall argue that though Tolkien s position on the dichotomies of good and
evil sometimes does delve into the realm of Manichaean dualism but... Show more content on

Choice is crucial unlike Manichaeism s beliefs. Frodo s decision to quest for the greater good of
Middle Earth is a taxing ordeal that forces him to turn his back on everything in the Shire he
ever knew. The human aspect of this character is the times the reader sees him slip up and fall
into difficult situations and choices in which he could use the One Ring. At times he does fall
into temptation and weakness, but with the love and support of Samwise and the rest of the
Fellowship, he is able to cast the Ring into the fires of Mount Doom. At the end of his journey he
has redeemed himself and proved himself to be good (Good vs. Evil

Honesty Is The Best Policy
Benjamin Franklin, of one hundred dollar bill fame, once said that honesty is the best policy
(Franklin). This seems like a good thing, however if you use the common definition of honesty,
of never telling a lie, then I would disagree with dear Ben, honesty is not the best policy. If I had
to create my own definition of honesty to replace the common definition, I would say that to be
honest, would be to stay true. True to others, true to the world, and true to yourself. To get to
how I came up with this definition we have to go back to the common definition of honesty,
which is not to tell lies. Back when I was a much younger version of myself, in about 2nd grade
or so, I remember telling outrageous lies, lies that are completely impossible for an adult to
achieve, much less a meager 2nd grader. I remember a time when one of the other kids said that
they have three dogs, and then someone else said that they had four dogs, which was more than
I had ever had, so I said that I had five dogs, because having more dogs makes me cool, right?
Well someone else said that they had more animals, and someone else said they had even more
animals, and then someone said that they have some exotic animals, and it ended up with a table
of 2nd graders who owned more animals than were in the entire state of North Carolina and
somehow kept them contained in suburban homes hidden away from the ASPCA. I believe I ended
up having an entire zoo stored somewhere in my closet, just behind my

The Societal Construction Of Sexual Scripts And Gendered...
You lie so much, you have become to believe your own lies (140). The societal construction of
sexual scripts and gendered expectations produces a universal emphasis on heteronormativity. As a
result, any deviance from said expectations frequently results in societal opprobrium and thus a
conditioned fear for those who fail to conform to their hetero dominant culture. In Giovanni s
Room, we encounter a young man, David, who battles with his sexuality throughout his life, even
in cultures more openly accepting than his native Brooklyn. David s own propensity for self
deception and hatred is externalized in his interactions with those who represent the sexual identify
he so desperately tries to deny and repress. This active projection is crucial in understanding David
s concept of masculinity and his ingrained fear of rejection by the heternormative society that
produced him. Societal and familial genderand sexual socialization play a major role in David s
persistent self hatred. His father placed an extreme emphasis on masculinity during David s
childhood. David overhears him tell his aunt that, all he wants for David is that he grow up to be
a man (15). The heternormative culture of Giovanni s Room taught David that in order to be a
real man, you must desire, love, and marry a woman. As a result of this gender and sexual
socialization, David experiences persistent feelings of self hatred and in order to cope with those
feelings, he continually lies to himself about his

Essay On Server Acute Respiratory Syndrome
Current and Potentially Future control Strategies:
In 2003 a global disease outbreak of what is now known as Server Acute Respiratory Syndrome,
but was unknown to many scientists occurred. The epidemic s origin was in Guangdong
province of southern China in 2002, where the first cases of SARS are recorded. SARS is
classed as a global health threat by the World Health Organization and in 2003; an epidemic killed
approximately 774 people in the countries of Canada, Hong Kong, Taiwan, China, Singapore,
Thailand and the United Kingdom before it was successfully contained. (Who.int, 2017) This is

Being in isolation also includes restriction of infected person s movement to stop the spread of
that illness around the body. This aided in the prevention of spreading the virus as increases
breathing rates disrupted the virion cells, causing them to spread further to uninfected epithelial
cells. (Cdc.gov, 2017) While quarantine refers to the isolation of a person who, does not show any
symptoms of the disease but has been exposed to SARS and could potentially become infectious.
(Cdc.gov, 2017)
A travel advisory was put in place so that travellers, airline crew and airlines where made aware of
the outbreak and told to report anyone displaying the symptoms of the virus. (Who.int, 2017)
Quarantine, the isolation of asymptomatic individuals who are thought to be incubating infection,
was a prominent control strategy used, which successful controlled the spread of the disease.
Currently there is no confirmed treatment or vaccine that works for every case of SARS. Over time
the body s immune system and in particular the third line of defence produces the effective B cell
(antibody) which can kill the virus. The presence of the virus will be detected and phagocytes
engulf invading virus cells and mark them as forging material otherwise known as antigens. B cells
notice that the antigens have been presented on the phagocytes and will begin to secrete large
quantities of the correct antibodies. This will take time as SARS is a new form of virus and has

Wohl s Theory Of Health And Social Care
Wohl (1983) produced a well researched and documented account of public health and development
in Britain; starting from the middle of the 19th century to the early 20th century. The author
eloquently described the horrendous and devastating levels of the nations poverty and poor health.
Within Victorian society few people were free from illness/disease, average lifespan, stench and
impurified water. The shift in socioeconomic differences, intolerable living conditions and
significantly poor working conditions took on an added dimension because of the increasing

Stereotypes refer to the beliefs that make up the characteristics, attributes, and behaviors of
members within a specific group (Whitley, 2016). While stereotypes can serve as a way to make
quick judgements based on what we perceive, they can negatively affect those who are stereotyped.
Stereotypes regardless if they are good or bad can create harmful consequences by attributing
characteristics to people that simply aren t true. Many forms of racism and stereotyping pertaining

Applying for secured personal loan or even a loan without collateral is not promising to anyone too.
So, if you are looking for a business loan without collateral, you have to understand that getting a
small business loan without collateral is certainly tough in today s economy.
That s why you find a lot of searches on internet about how to get loan without collateral and it is
commonly asked by many people from all parts of the country.
When you visit a forum like Nairaland where entrepreneurs meet often to discuss about cash loan
without collateral, you ll find discussions threads talking about start up business loans, simply
because their businesses are either established through a loan or personal investment.
There is no doubt that it s difficult to find money to start a brand new business. In fact, as
mentioned earlier, this is one tough hurdle you have to cross if you are business owner and you re
trying to raise a startup capital.
There are many problems confronting entrepreneurs, though, the main one is how you can raise
venture capital. If you have an excellent idea, the only thing that could hold you up putting that idea
into reality is how you can finance such idea and get started with angel investors.
Almost everyone in business today has one story or another to tell regarding how difficult it turned

Economic development through greater regional cooperation was the primary aim of the

With that in mind, it is apparent then that relying on the US for military assistance in the event of
a Chinese attack is useless. What the Philippines need is a military alliance of committed nations
who have more or less the same stake in the South China Sea territorial dispute. That being said, the
most logical choice would be creating an alliance with our fellow
ASEAN claimant nations.
2. REGIONAL COLLECTIVE DEFENSE: ATTEMPT AND FAILURE
The idea of creating an international organization for collective defense in the SEA region to offset
growing Chinese influence is not new to international politics. In fact it was once tried with the
signing of the Southeast Asia Collective Defense Treaty or Manila Pact, in
Manila, Philippines which created the South East Asia Treaty Organization (SEATO). The
organization was then formally established on February 19, 1955 at a meeting of treaty partners in
Bangkok, Thailand.5 One of the rationales for the creation of SEATO was to counteract communist

Domestic Violence People who live together trust one another. Children trust parents to love them
not to hurt them and give the economic support as well as the emotional support to grow up, in a
romantic relationship a women should be able to trust the man she is with as well as man should be
able to trust the women she is with. One thing that breaks trust in these relationships is abuse.
Abuse
Abuse varies in every relationship. Abuse can be physical, such as slapping, punching, using
weapons. Mental abuse includes verbal abuse that brings a victim s self esteem down, this leads to
depression and making the victim feel worthless. Another form of abuse is ... Show more content on

Some abusers are uncomfortable with feelings such as, being lonely, sadness, embarrassment, or
even love. Abusers often get violent when they start to feel these emotions or when they start
running out of words to keep arguing verbally. Alcohol is proven to contribute to abuse. When a
person is drunk or had been drinking they tend to not be fully capable of thinking straight.
Drinking tends to make people lose their temper easier. When a parent is drunk it is best to leave
the house if possible, when a partner is drunk it is best not to argue especially if they tend to get
angry fairly easy.
Domestic Violence Each year, an estimated 30 percent of women who become homicide victims
die at the hands of men with whom they have a family (Thomson Gale, 2005, p. 21). People
blame the murdered women for not leaving the relationship. Unfortunately people do not realize
that most women that leave the relationship have a higher risk of being murdered at the time of
separation. They have a 75% higher risk of being murdered if they leave than the women that
stay. Men also are victims of domestic violence. In domestic violence men make up five percent
of the victims it has. A need of control leads abusers to act out violence. Every year, at least one
million women are physically, sexually, psychologically abused by their husbands, or common law
partners, two women are murdered by their male partners every week (Thomson Gale, 2005, p.26).

The Tax Should Be Replaced With A Lifetime Accessions Tax...
The estate tax is a tax upon your right to transfer property at the time of your death. It is often
called the death tax and it has been a partisan point of disagreement for quite some time. As the tax
only applies to estates of $5.45 million and over, this tax only applies to the wealthy. Enacted in
1916 to help finance World War I, the estate tax
has come under more scrutiny lately because of our
government s financial situation and the one hundredth anniversary (Caron 825). The intellectual
world is divided on whether to repeal, reform, or keep unchanged the estate tax. Some even argue
that transfers of wealth should not be taxed at all. This essay will contend that the current estate
tax should be replaced with a lifetime accessions tax to encourage donors, reduce concentrations of
wealth, and safeguard equality of opportunity. Additionally, this paper will compare the lifetime
accessions tax to other proposed alternatives. In place for over one hundred years now, the estate
tax was put into place to do more than just finance World War I. In 1916, there were extremely
wealthy families, such as the Vanderbilt s and the Carnegie s, that dominated industries and held a
large portion of the nation s wealth. Part of the purpose of the estate tax was to curb massive
amounts of inter generational wealth that was common amongst these families. The government
saw the money being passed down from generation to generation as an opportunity for more
revenue and a burden upon an

Analysis Of I Know Why The Caged Bird Sings
Welcome, today we will be taken on a journey by deconstructing and analysing the poem I Know
Why the Caged Bird Sings by Maya Angelou. This poem explores the theme of Oppression which
illustrates the nature of helicopter parenting upon today s youth. We will include a contemporary
source which likewise explores this challenging youth issue. Essentially, this poem displays the
damage that helicopter parenting can have on a child s youth, oppressing them, taking their
childhood away from them.
Angelou s poem I Know Why the Cages Bird Sings expresses the idea that freedom is a natural
state and knowledge of this fact cannot be rid of by any amount of oppression, limitation or
confinement from different opportunities. The poem contrasts a ... Show more content on

In the last stanza, the caged bird s song symbolises the emotions and cries of freedom. The
combination of the two represents that there is a need for every child to reach their full potential.
Something that cannot be achieved with helicopter parenting and the barriers placed upon them.
This poem contains another literary device called juxtaposition. The free bird is juxtaposed with
the caged bird, both are described but they are very different. Adults need to think about how they
use their power over children. Helicopter parenting; is using power that causes children to be
restricted and to shrivel up inside rather than flourish just like the caged and free bird in the poem.
Angelou s free bird is a free child, someone who has the freedom to pursue their ambitions no matter
how questionably they become.
Near the end of the poem it is revealed that the bird opens his throat to sing Maya Angelou felt this
way in her own life. She wrote, sang and danced because it was her way of expressing her
longing for freedom despite being oppressed for most of her life. Although freedom, to the caged
bird, is fearful because it is unknown , he still sings a fearful trill . The cries of help are heard but
the overarching parents only hear it as background noise.
Maya felt strongly about oppression and this pushed her to make this poem to achieve social justice

Analysis of Miss Jane Pittman
In Ernest Gaines novel, The Autobiography of Miss Jane Pittman, he stresses the importance of
education of black men from the period of slavery to the civil rights movement. Education has
not always been available to African Americans. During the time of slavery education was very
limited as not many people were educated, especially blacks. Schools for blacks were often
destroyed and those found teaching them were usually killed. A lack of education was one way
that whites were able to keep control over blacks along with violence to make people scared to
challenge their treatment. Throughout the book there were several educated black men that made
their way into Miss Jane s life, two of which were raised by Miss Jane and were like children...

British Soap Operas Essay
British soap operas are, of course, overly dramatic. In nearly every soap opera, including the
Eastenders, Coronation Street, Emmerdale, and The Archers the characters constantly discuss
money and drink excessively. Of course, these shows are not made to be taken literally they are
mindless entertainment, not serious social commentary. However, behind the drama, they raise
subtle questions about the nature of Britain today: the clashes between cultures and religions, upper
and lower classes, and the young rebelling against the old. All of these things could be happening
at the very same time, and underlining all of these issues is the idea that no one should be trusted.

A bartender mixes cheap, terrible powdered drinks and tests it on customers in order to make
more money. One woman runs into the bar and demands alcohol, shouting It s time to liven up
this place (Newman). In Coronation Street, every other scene features alcohol. Two young men,
pessimistic about their futures, guzzle beers in a room littered with empty beer cans. Two other
characters pour whiskey into a teapot and have straight alcohol teatime, complete with milk. In
Emmerdale, a depressed father meets the vicar in the pub for a drink. Of course, alcohol
consumption in these shows is never the cause of problem but it is interesting to note that in most
of the dramatic scenes, alcohol is consumed, possibly fueling these confrontations. According to
these shows, the only jobs available in Great Britain for those in the lower class are bar tending,
hotel work, hairdressing, or waitressing. They usually spend their time working on ways to gain
more money, leaving their pubs and salons in jeopardy as they waste time and quid on get rich

have problems, too. The arguments in The Archersradio show, for instance, are very different from
the arguments in Coronation Street, Eastenders, or Emmerdale. Usually, the arguments of the
wealthy revolve around investments, property trading, or developments and housing or about who

Atopic dermatitis, also known as eczema, is a form of chronic skin condition. An estimated 15
20% of children in New Zealand suffer from this. There have been numerous studies examining the
relationship between eczema and quality of life. Results reveal that as severity is high, quality of
life is low. Although these researches provide evidence for the effects of eczema, they do not
examine the effects of eczema and self esteem on the severity of eczema together. This current
proposed research aims to identify whether quality of life and self esteem has an impact on
severity for children aged between two and eighteen in a cross sectional design. It is hypothesized

Psychoneuroimmunology looks at the relationship between psychosocial influences, mind,
behaviour, immune system and patient s health (Webber, 2010). An underlying model of
research is that when an individual is faced with a stressful event, their immune system worsens
which leads to a decline in their health. There are two ways in which stress affects an individual s
health; directly and indirectly. Direct stresses are those where physiological changes are a result
of stress related arousal such as damage to blood vessels. An example of this is the patient
scratching the affected area when a flare up occurs. This leads to stress in the bodily system
causing the severity to exacerbate. On the other hand, indirect stress is stressors that are related
to a change in behaviour or thinking in the individual which then leads to illness. An example
would be a decline in quality of life as a result of eczema flare up, leading to teasing from peers
and a change in their thinking. As a result, their self esteem decreases leading to an increase in
eczema severity. There have been studies conducted to indicate that eczema flare ups are a
result of everyday psychosocial stress such as death of a loved one or even school or work related
stress. Stress has also been found to change the homeostasis of the skin barrier which results in
flare ups of eczema (Choi et al., 2005 cited by

The Negative Effects Of The Barbie Syndrome
Picture yourself as the perfect woman. Embodying every woman s dream. You are undeniably
gorgeous, weighing in at 100 pounds, standing 6 feet tall and holding nearly 150 careers (Barbie
History). This is the inspirational, ever so beloved childhood toy, the perfect Barbie Doll.
Barbie is America s most loved toy, considering many young girls at least owned one or more
Barbies throughout their childhood. These young girls looked up to Barbie as their role model
throughout life, which lead to them comparing themselves to Barbie. The Barbie Syndrome is
an definite culprit of girls persistent desire to strive for perfection. Barbie s unrealistic beauty
and extraordinary lack of diversity has lead to many negative effects within women in today s
society, including a ceaseless desire to be perfect, and overall lower rates of self esteem.
Throughout the years the Barbie Company decided to fix this mistake by creating a plethora of
different Barbies, to try to raise women s self esteem. Starting with Barbie s debut, she has been
influencing young girls perceptions of beauty, when in reality Barbie s body, measures 18 33 39
(waist, hips, bust),which would be unable to bear a children, and she would have been unable to
hold up her own neck and back . Also in reality, she would have been disproportioned and need to
crawl on all fours to get to place. Regardless of popular belief, it seems as if Barbie is not perfect
after all, and has flaws like any human being.

Essay On Dried Fruits
What do u prefer, fresh fruits or dried fruits ? Which choice is healthier? A question we may ask
because many people don t like the idea of eating fresh fruits. So the question is : Can we replace
fresh fruits with dried ones ? As everything in life it is choice you have to take. It is a very
commom snack among young children, and adults as well. Drying is a very good way to preserve
foods and use it for a long period of time . As many processed food, it could lose some of its
nutrients . Here is a summary for the steps that are taken for this process:
Heat or air dryness in a good air circulation.
Select fresh, fully ripened fruit .
Dip food in ascorbic acid, citric acid or lemon juice
Condition to 4 to 10 days before packaging
Put it in tighten containers.
The history of dried food originates long time ago fresh fruits at that time were not available in
all seasons ,so they used these methods so they can find something to eat in the winter seasons.
The before using these fruits they used to reconstituted it with water to add the water what was

In these days dried food is being used as a way to avoid eating eating the fresh fruits. As some

Teaching Students With Quality Assessments
Introduction Education is a field that is constantly evolving and as teachers it is important that
changes are made to be as effective as possible. Curriculum mapping, planning, and assessment
building have been topics at the forefront of many conversations in the field of education. As
teachers have become smarter about their field, they have made instructional and assessment
changes that benefit students learningneeds. The assessment practices we use in the classroom

By giving students pre assessments teachers are able to diagnose students prior knowledge and skill
level, identify student misconceptions, profile learners interests, and reveal learning style
preferences (McTighe O Connor, 2005). With the knowledge gained from this type of assessment,
teachers are better able to make instructional decisions that will decrease negative classroom
behaviors. When students have a active role in the assessment process they perform better. I know

New Practices I have gained several new practices from this course. Prior to this course my

Canadian Language Analysis
Canada is a growing and successful first world nation, but Canada is by no means a nation without
faults. There are divides that exist in Canada; historically, culturally, and politically. These divides
exist as a part of a nation that is in continual development and growth a nation of diversity and
democracy. It is the diversity between English speaking Canadians and French speaking Canadians
that will be focused upon in the following pages of this paper. Anglophone and Francophone
Canadians are at odds. Historically, the tensions between these Canadians pre dates the founding of
this country. Culturally; language, beliefs, traditions and values differ between these people
tremendously. Politically, there are differing views of the unified... Show more content on

Analysis Of The Breakfast Club
Brian Johnson, or the Brain, in the movie The Breakfast Club, possess thought processes evident in
Piaget s Formal Operational Period stage in his theory of cognitive development. During Piaget s
Formal Operational Period, people begin to apply their mental operations to abstract concepts in
addition to concrete objects; their thinking is hypothetical, systematic, reflective and logical
(Weiten, 448). Brian asks himself existential questions like Who do I think I am? Who are you?
Who are you? as he brainstorms Mr. Vernon s assignment for the students in detention; these
thoughts are abstract. His thoughtprocesses are also logical since he s extremely intelligent; being
part of the math, Latin and physics club requires some advanced thinking skills. Additionally, he
understands how concrete applications like engineering stem from abstract concepts like
Trigonometry. He also reasoned that if he took a class like Shop that dopes take, he could pass
that class easily to maintain his GPA; such reasoning requires complex thinking. Finally, his
thinking is reflective, especially when he ponders the permanence of the Breakfast Club s
friendship and describes how he steps outside himself to analyze what he sees. Unfortunately, when
he observes himself, he s highly critical and despises his true self; he possess a highly negative
view of himself, labeling himself a failure, eventually leading to suicidal thoughts and actions.
Brian represents the Conventional Level of

Abstinence Project
Part A: Services need/Presenting issue I gave up caffeine for the 30 days of abstinence project. I
drink iced coffee almost everyday even when its cold, and I drink soda everyday multiple times.
I started drinking soda at a very young age, but my intake increased when I was a teenager.
Drinking caffeine has had a negative impact on my body. I have gained a lot of weight from
drinking soda. Also when I drinkcoffeemy stomach hurts, but I drink it anyways to get through the
day. I am well aware of how caffeinenegatively impacts me, but that doesn t make it easy for me to
stop drinking caffeine.
Part B: Treatment plan

I have quit soda in the past a few times, but never all caffeine. I had cravings all 30 days and they
were really hard to control. I wanted a soda with everything I ate and every morning I
desperately needed coffee to wake me up. There were a couple of times I considered giving into
the cravings, but thankfully I didn t. Every time I craved caffeine I would drink lots of water.
On the mornings where I really needed caffeine I gave myself pep talks in order to not give in.
Clearly, those 30 days without caffeine was challenging for me. Although, I accept the impact
caffeine has on my life it wasn t easy quitting it. The first few days I was in the worst mood. I
myself didn t want to be around me. The psychical withdrawal was hard as well. I had a
headache for the first week in a half, which made it hard for me to focus on my work. This
definitely showed me that I depend a lot on caffeine to get through the day. More than I thought
because I need caffeine to wake up, to focus on schoolwork, to enjoy a meal, and even when I am
bored. All in all I have always known I drink to much caffeine but I have come to depend on it to
get through day, so I don t know how to quit

Similarities Between Beast And Beauty And The Beast
Another fairy tale is decided to read from the blue fairy book was Beauty and the Beast, the
original tale was written by the Grimm brothers and it tells a story of a man who was cursed by
a witch and turned into a beast. He could only transform back into a human from the love of a
girl, soon a girl comes to live with the beast in the exchange for the life of her father and soon falls

appearance. He is turned into a beast after he pulls a prank on a witch named Kendra who is
disguised as a teenager. As the original tale, the witch gives Kyle two years of time to find
someone to love him as a beast and with a kiss from his true love he would be turned back into a
human. Kyle soon falls in love with Lindy and he takes her to live with him, she hates him at
first but then begins to fall in love. At the end of the novel, Lindy kisses him transforming him
back into the handsome teenager he was. In both of these versions, there were many similarities
and differences, the similarities were that an attractive selfish man turned into a beast by a witch.

History of Animal Testing Essay
Animal Testing is when people use animals in experiments, to test their reaction to what is being
tested. The range of animals used in testing is from tens of millions to more than a hundred million
used annually. There has been much debate about this topic, because, animals are the most reliable
sources to use, especially mice, because we share 95% of our genes with them, which makes them
the most common animals to use. Although, many people think animaltesting is crude and
inaccurate science, but the other hand is, would we rather use humans?
Animal testing has been going on since 500BC, found in ancient Greek writing. People believed that
animals were lacking intelligence so it didn t matter to them. Although, Theophrastus disagreed, ...

Viv sectors are the scientists and doctors that perform animal testing. An average day at work for
them is poisoning, shocking, burning, and killing animals. Humans have found specific animals
that they are testing, and they have always been testing on these animals. Humans have always
been testing on animals, and they have never even thought of testing on humans. We have been
using innocent animals for our own products, which only use humans are going to be using, so
why are we using animals? The only reason why we are using animals is because we are too
selfish to use ourselves. There have been many surveys and research on what we humans think
about this. Many people have mentioned that it isn t fair because animals can t show or tell us
their pain. Although, some people feel that it is completely necessarily to test on animals because
otherwise, we wouldn t have had all the medicine we have, and many more products would have
been unsafe to use.
During an interview between DoSomething.org and Nancy Beck Ph.D. and the science and policy
adviser at Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine, the question asked was Why can t
most animals be put up for adoption after they re testing is finished? and Nancy Beck replied
Animals are often killed as part of the test, in order to determine whether there has been any toxicity
to their internal organs . This shows that most animals who get put into animal testing never come
back out, they are ended up

Evolution Was Introduced By Charles Darwin
The idea of evolution was introduced by Charles Darwin, and explains how animals change over
time. The theory states that every organism on the Earth originated from a common ancestor and
then, through the process of natural selection, how those animals branched off to become different
organisms. Scholars use this theory to explain how animals that live on Earth change over time.
However, scientists find it difficult to use this theory to explain some events that occurred in the
geologic time period, such as the CambrianExplosion. The Cambrian explosionwas a macro
evolutionary event that happened during the late Ediacaranand early Cambrian period. It introduced
a number of phyla on the Earth, and significantly affected the animal... Show more content on

When a mass extinction takes place, the dominant species of that time get removed, enabling other
organisms to use the resources they once did. This means that the extinction of the Ediacaran
animals could have left a pathway for the newly made Cambrian species. Unfortunately, there are
problems that arise when examining this theory. The extinction of the Ediacaran period does not
explain the polyphyletic nature or the lengthy duration of the Cambrian Explosion (Xingliang
Zhang, 2014). Another theory scholars believe could have led to the rapid appearance of
polyphyletic organisms in the Cambrian could have occurred from the mineral and salinity content
of the water. The salt concentration that is present in the water controls and limits the amount of
biologic activity, since the saltier an area is, the fewer animals can live there. Less animals are able
to survive in places that have high salt concentration due to the process of osmosis, which
dehydrates the animals making them unable to survive in those environments. From looking at
ocean salinity modeling, which was developed by observing maximum and minima values of
present day evaporates, scholars have concluded that there was a significant salinity decline from
the Neoproterozoic to the Cambrian. The decline in salinity seen in this time period, may have had

Recommendations for PPCo
Executive Summary Technology is often characterized as an industry with rapid change, lower
cycle times, and quick innovations. These assessments are generally true in regards to hardware
components. In many instances hardware components are subject to stiff price competition as they
are often commodity like products. Innovations occur, which allows firms to charge higher prices
for their product offerings. The pricing powers of these offerings are quickly eroded as competitors
quickly match or exceed the competing firm s specifications. This vicious cycle occurs in many
hardware components, including disk drives. Disk drives are unique as they often account for
upwards of 40% of the total costs of the computer. In addition they are essential functions as they
directly impact capacity and speed of the overall competing unit. Due to this priority, companies are
often innovating the disk drive to either reduce costs or increase capacity. These innovations are
then marketed through distribution channels that ultimately help drive revenue growth for the firm.
However, due to the rapid evolution that is occurring in the industry it is difficult to have a
distribution network that is dedicated or loyal to particular products. Due to rapid evolution a
product in demand today, often becomes obsolete tomorrow. As such distributors must cater to all
competitors to ensure the correct products are sold at the highest margins to consumers. PPCo must
now create better disk drives that

Paper On Healthy People 2020
According to Healthy People 2020, The Physical Activity Guidelines for Americans (PAG)
released in 2008, was the first ever publication of national guidelines for physical activity. The
physical activity topics and objectives for Healthy People 2020 reflect the strong state of the
science supporting the healthbenefits of regular physical activity among youth and adults, as
identified in the PAG , (United States Department of Health and Human Services [HHS], Healthy
People 2020, 2016).
Expending on the PAG, Healthy People 2020 estimated, on a national level, over 80 percent of
adults and youth are not actively participating in daily physical activity, potentially increasing the
risk of developing chronic health related diseases such as; heart disease, diabetes, obesity, or
exacerbating current health issues (HHS, Healthy People 2020, 2016).
Healthy People implemented an extensive list of physical activity objectives targeting youth of
all ages. The objectives are all aimed at promoting the health benefits of maintaining a physically
active life style. The following objective targets a major area of concern for the medical
community and the increase of inactivity among today s youth; PA 8.2.2; Increase the proportion

Michael Porter put great emphasis on internal rivalry in his model. To be the best within a given
industry such as shipping requires constant strategically thinking in order to to keep the
competitive edge. The shipping industry is hard to get into for new entrants because FedEx,
UPS and DHL have already established their brand globally. There is a low chance that an up
and coming company can pose as a real threat to either one of these three companies. There is a
huge amount of money that needs to be brought about to compete. Some of the main costs
would be planes, trucks, infrastructure and fuel. That alone would mean spending billions of
dollars to get on the same level FedEx, UPS and DHL. All these three companies dominant
shipping packages either through the ground or air. What I mean by that is FedEx destroys UPS
in express delivery market, but UPS controls the ground shipping market. While DHL and FedEx
both control international markets far more than UPS. Building a brand name would take years if
not decades for new entrants to be recognized along with a ton of capital. FedEx is spending
billions just on acquiring international companies to help build their brand. It is unlikely to see a
new entrant pose any sort of serious threat to the already established reputable companies such as
FedEx, UPS and DHL. Threats in the shipping industry do not come from new entrants, but rather
the power of the buyers. Buyer power

Analysis Of The Book Overthrow By Stephen Kinzer
The United States government engaged in regime change operations throughout the late 19th and
20th Centuries. The United States government overthrown foreign governments for economic
benefits. Some economic benefits that were gained would be promoting American economic
interests and access to natural resources. For instance securing trade and support for American
private investment abroad was another way United Statesgained economic benefits. While reading
the book Overthrow by Stephen Kinzer there are examples on how United States overthrow
Hawaii, Cuba, Nicaragua, and Panama. In document 20, Exploring American Histories by Nancy
A. Hewitt and Steven F. Lawson what is discussed is imperial expansion (Hewitt and Lawson 644).
The March of the Flag, 1898 by Albert Beveridge lays out the justifications on why America
should imperialize (Hewitt and Lawson 647 Kinzer 117). Beveridge mentioned that they can
expand the US market as well as give them democracy. He talks about how America has ruled over
unfit races, such as the Indians, many times and imperialism is no different. He also points out that
other large nations will scoop them up if the United States doesn t. His main point however, is the
vast amount of resources in Cuba, Puerto Rico and the Philippines that the United States can
accumulate. Some of the resources found in Cuba would be agricultural.
The benefits the United States gained from Hawaii won secure access to sugar and fruit plantations.

forte given your success in The Big Bang Theory. (Cheers and screaming) So, why do you think
stereotyping has been so common in media? Stereotype is an advantage, especially in media

This was well received by the audience due to the stereotype that a nerd would never lose an
academic contest and their failure felt good to the common people. Through the different
aspects of the nerd stereotype, the show became more enriching, drawing even more viewers. I
certainly had a great laugh watching that scene! It definitely struck a chord with me since I am
often on the losing side! There was also this scene where Stan Lee sarcastically remarked to
Sheldon to join him at his house for the Lakers game in which Sheldon deemed as an invitation
to his house, resulting in a restraining order on Sheldon. Now I am sure that this show was
made with a hope to impact our society? How have the impacts been? There have definitely been
positive impacts. Physics has always been considered a boring science subject, however ever
since the release of Big Bang Theory, the number of students that enrol in the A levels has
increased and I believe that we had a great part to play in it. (Cue applause) I feel it has to do with
our portrayal of physicists being people that actually do cool stuff related to interesting topics, not

Title IX increased the amount of women participants significantly over the years and the legislation serves as a standard for college programs to abide by they want to keep federal funding. The passing of Title IX created a monumental shift collegeand high schoolathletics. After Title IX passed there were changes such as the University of Michigan going from an institution which only had male college programs to having ten femaleathletic programs in the span of five years (Rothman). • 3. Analysis Of The Poem Battle Royal The primary method for judging the worth of a piece of literature is its organic unity or the complex way all the elements of a test contribute to a story s meaning. The images, symbols, and metaphors in Ellison s Battle Royal give this story a whole new meaning. In 1947, when this short story was published, the black community was at an all time low. The main aspects of this piece have ambiguous meanings behind them. The grandfather s death scene, the naked dancer, the battle royal, the narrator s speech, and the narrator s dream all have significant symbolism. The grandfather s death had a major impact on the narrator s life. As the grandfather passed away he stated, Son, after I m gone I want you to keep up the good fight... Live with your head in the lion s mouth... Let em swoller you till they vomit or bust wide open (Ellison, 1495). These words seem to act as spiritual guidance for the narrator. Throughout the story the readers see the narrator refer back to these words. The grandfather dies with a legacy that haunts blacks regardless of social, political, and economic progress. The social, political, and economic system is seen when the naked blonde s erotic dance is described. Overall, this scene represents America s distorted value system. The symbolism made by flag tattoo on the dancer is actually a depiction of the relentless pursuit of money, sex, and power. The men, in the room where the dancing took place, were not considerate of the dancer s ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Contrasting Themes In David Lynch s Film Blue Velvet Contrasting Themes in Blue Velvet The subconscious psyche is one of the most fascinating and almost completely inexplicable aspects of human behavior. Even more intriguing than merely the subconscious is the notion of a darker, more repressed side that many individuals refuse to acknowledge exists within them. In David Lynch s film Blue Velvet, the director attempts to explore the psyche of a young man named Jeffrey Beaumont, most notably the clash between his darker side and good side for the first time in his life. Using themes that sharply contrast one another, Lynch provides insight into the character of Jeffrey and the struggle that he is faced with. Jeffrey is in a transitional period of his life, not very old, and is on a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The gun on the television is in direct contrast to what has been taking place visually up to this point. The mise en scene has been depicting an idealized American town, and yet the image of a gun is used as an allusion to something more sinister lurking within the town, with the interior of Jeffrey s house perhaps representing the inner sanctum of Jeffrey s subconscious. From here, Lynch cuts back to the long shot of Jeffrey s father watering the lawn, followed by a close up of the faucet where the hose is connected. Suddenly, the cuts are very rapid and the camera cuts between close ups of the hose, the faucet, and Jeffrey s father, who eventually keels over in an apparent stroke. This is followed by a long shot of a dog attempting to bite the water spraying out of the hose, with a cut to a close up of the dog doing this behavior in slow motion. Slowly, the non digetic sound of Blue Velvet fades out, giving way to an unintelligible and faint sound which appears to be non digetic as well. However, the camera zooms into an extreme close up of the grass and tracks through the grass as well, with the unintelligible noise increasing in volume. The shot then dissolves to reveal an entire population of cockroaches infesting the soil, and what had previously been non digetic sound has now become the loud, digetic sound of the insects movement. Immediately, there is a cut to an establishing ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Manichaean Dualism In The Hobbit J.R.R Tolkien s writing consists of a variety of different mythological influences ranging from Greco Roman, Norse, and Scandinavian. Thought these sources do shape the narrative of Tolkien s writing and of Middle Earth as a whole, most prominent inspirations of his mythos is derived from Christian theology in the Bible. Traces of biblical influence can be found throughout The Hobbit, The Lord of the Ringstrilogy and The Silmarillion, particularly in each of these texts conception of good and evil. Some have argued that the morality presented in his works are akin to Manichaean dualism. In this essay, I shall argue that though Tolkien s position on the dichotomies of good and evil sometimes does delve into the realm of Manichaean dualism but... • 6. Honesty Is The Best Policy Benjamin Franklin, of one hundred dollar bill fame, once said that honesty is the best policy (Franklin). This seems like a good thing, however if you use the common definition of honesty, of never telling a lie, then I would disagree with dear Ben, honesty is not the best policy. If I had to create my own definition of honesty to replace the common definition, I would say that to be honest, would be to stay true. True to others, true to the world, and true to yourself. To get to how I came up with this definition we have to go back to the common definition of honesty, which is not to tell lies. Back when I was a much younger version of myself, in about 2nd grade or so, I remember telling outrageous lies, lies that are completely impossible for an adult to achieve, much less a meager 2nd grader. I remember a time when one of the other kids said that they have three dogs, and then someone else said that they had four dogs, which was more than I had ever had, so I said that I had five dogs, because having more dogs makes me cool, right? Well someone else said that they had more animals, and someone else said they had even more animals, and then someone said that they have some exotic animals, and it ended up with a table of 2nd graders who owned more animals than were in the entire state of North Carolina and somehow kept them contained in suburban homes hidden away from the ASPCA. • 8. The Societal Construction Of Sexual Scripts And Gendered... You lie so much, you have become to believe your own lies (140). The societal construction of sexual scripts and gendered expectations produces a universal emphasis on heteronormativity. As a result, any deviance from said expectations frequently results in societal opprobrium and thus a conditioned fear for those who fail to conform to their hetero dominant culture. In Giovanni s Room, we encounter a young man, David, who battles with his sexuality throughout his life, even in cultures more openly accepting than his native Brooklyn. David s own propensity for self deception and hatred is externalized in his interactions with those who represent the sexual identify he so desperately tries to deny and repress. This active projection is crucial in understanding David s concept of masculinity and his ingrained fear of rejection by the heternormative society that produced him. Societal and familial genderand sexual socialization play a major role in David s persistent self hatred. His father placed an extreme emphasis on masculinity during David s childhood. David overhears him tell his aunt that, all he wants for David is that he grow up to be a man (15). The heternormative culture of Giovanni s Room taught David that in order to be a real man, you must desire, love, and marry a woman. • 26. The Tax Should Be Replaced With A Lifetime Accessions Tax... The estate tax is a tax upon your right to transfer property at the time of your death. It is often called the death tax and it has been a partisan point of disagreement for quite some time. As the tax only applies to estates of $5.45 million and over, this tax only applies to the wealthy. Enacted in 1916 to help finance World War I, the estate tax has come under more scrutiny lately because of our government s financial situation and the one hundredth anniversary (Caron 825). The intellectual world is divided on whether to repeal, reform, or keep unchanged the estate tax. Some even argue that transfers of wealth should not be taxed at all. This essay will contend that the current estate tax should be replaced with a lifetime accessions tax to encourage donors, reduce concentrations of wealth, and safeguard equality of opportunity. Additionally, this paper will compare the lifetime accessions tax to other proposed alternatives. In place for over one hundred years now, the estate tax was put into place to do more than just finance World War I. In 1916, there were extremely wealthy families, such as the Vanderbilt s and the Carnegie s, that dominated industries and held a large portion of the nation s wealth. Part of the purpose of the estate tax was to curb massive amounts of inter generational wealth that was common amongst these families. The combination of the two represents that there is a need for every child to reach their full potential. The free bird is juxtaposed with the caged bird, both are described but they are very different. Adults need to think about how they use their power over children. Helicopter parenting; is using power that causes children to be restricted and to shrivel up inside rather than flourish just like the caged and free bird in the poem. Psychoneuroimmunology looks at the relationship between psychosocial influences, mind, behaviour, immune system and patient s health (Webber, 2010). An underlying model of research is that when an individual is faced with a stressful event, their immune system worsens which leads to a decline in their health. There are two ways in which stress affects an individual s health; directly and indirectly. Direct stresses are those where physiological changes are a result of stress related arousal such as damage to blood vessels. An example of this is the patient scratching the affected area when a flare up occurs. This leads to stress in the bodily system causing the severity to exacerbate. On the other hand, indirect stress is stressors that are related to a change in behaviour or thinking in the individual which then leads to illness. An example would be a decline in quality of life as a result of eczema flare up, leading to teasing from peers and a change in their thinking. As a result, their self esteem decreases leading to an increase in eczema severity. There have been studies conducted to indicate that eczema flare ups are a result of everyday psychosocial stress such as death of a loved one or even school or work related stress. The assessment practices we use in the classroom should be used to promote student learning (McTighe O Connor, 2005). As educators it is important that the goals we have are used to support the learning in all students. By giving students pre assessments teachers are able to diagnose students prior knowledge and skill level, identify student misconceptions, profile learners interests, and reveal learning style preferences (McTighe O Connor, 2005). With the knowledge gained from this type of assessment, teachers are better able to make instructional decisions that will decrease negative classroom behaviors. When students have a active role in the assessment process they perform better. I know understand that students must take an active roll in the assessment process to benefit from their learning. As a teacher, if I want students to be successful on assessments I have to include students in the process. New Practices I have gained several new practices from this course. Prior to this course my students used portfolios to track their learning over the semester. In order to give students more control over the assessment process, I have begun allowing students to choose the assessments to place in their portfolios. Once this is done, I have asked student reflect on their work and their learning. Anne Davies (2007) suggests students learn more as they reflect and select evidence of learning to show others (p.50). Analysis Of The Breakfast Club Brian Johnson, or the Brain, in the movie The Breakfast Club, possess thought processes evident in Piaget s Formal Operational Period stage in his theory of cognitive development. During Piaget s Formal Operational Period, people begin to apply their mental operations to abstract concepts in addition to concrete objects; their thinking is hypothetical, systematic, reflective and logical (Weiten, 448). Brian asks himself existential questions like Who do I think I am? Who are you? Who are you? as he brainstorms Mr. Vernon s assignment for the students in detention; these thoughts are abstract. His thoughtprocesses are also logical since he s extremely intelligent; being part of the math, Latin and physics club requires some advanced thinking skills. Additionally, he understands how concrete applications like engineering stem from abstract concepts like Trigonometry. He also reasoned that if he took a class like Shop that dopes take, he could pass that class easily to maintain his GPA; such reasoning requires complex thinking. Finally, his thinking is reflective, especially when he ponders the permanence of the Breakfast Club s friendship and describes how he steps outside himself to analyze what he sees. Unfortunately, when he observes himself, he s highly critical and despises his true self; he possess a highly negative view of himself, labeling himself a failure, eventually leading to suicidal thoughts and actions. The range of animals used in testing is from tens of millions to more than a hundred million used annually. There has been much debate about this topic, because, animals are the most reliable sources to use, especially mice, because we share 95% of our genes with them, which makes them the most common animals to use. Although, many people think animaltesting is crude and inaccurate science, but the other hand is, would we rather use humans? The theory states that every organism on the Earth originated from a common ancestor and then, through the process of natural selection, how those animals branched off to become different organisms. Scholars use this theory to explain how animals that live on Earth change over time. However, scientists find it difficult to use this theory to explain some events that occurred in the geologic time period, such as the CambrianExplosion. When a mass extinction takes place, the dominant species of that time get removed, enabling other organisms to use the resources they once did. This means that the extinction of the Ediacaran animals could have left a pathway for the newly made Cambrian species. Unfortunately, there are problems that arise when examining this theory. The extinction of the Ediacaran period does not explain the polyphyletic nature or the lengthy duration of the Cambrian Explosion (Xingliang Zhang, 2014). Another theory scholars believe could have led to the rapid appearance of polyphyletic organisms in the Cambrian could have occurred from the mineral and salinity content of the water. The salt concentration that is present in the water controls and limits the amount of biologic activity, since the saltier an area is, the fewer animals can live there. Less animals are able to survive in places that have high salt concentration due to the process of osmosis, which dehydrates the animals making them unable to survive in those environments. From looking at ocean salinity modeling, which was developed by observing maximum and minima values of present day evaporates, scholars have concluded that there was a significant salinity decline from the Neoproterozoic to the Cambrian. The decline in salinity seen in this time period, may have had an ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 49. Recommendations for PPCo Executive Summary Technology is often characterized as an industry with rapid change, lower cycle times, and quick innovations. These assessments are generally true in regards to hardware components. In many instances hardware components are subject to stiff price competition as they are often commodity like products. Innovations occur, which allows firms to charge higher prices for their product offerings. The pricing powers of these offerings are quickly eroded as competitors quickly match or exceed the competing firm s specifications. This vicious cycle occurs in many hardware components, including disk drives. Disk drives are unique as they often account for upwards of 40% of the total costs of the computer. In addition they are essential functions as they directly impact capacity and speed of the overall competing unit. Due to this priority, companies are often innovating the disk drive to either reduce costs or increase capacity. These innovations are then marketed through distribution channels that ultimately help drive revenue growth for the firm. However, due to the rapid evolution that is occurring in the industry it is difficult to have a distribution network that is dedicated or loyal to particular products. Due to rapid evolution a product in demand today, often becomes obsolete tomorrow. As such distributors must cater to all competitors to ensure the correct products are sold at the highest margins to consumers. PPCo must now create better disk drives that ...
