The Theme Of Hope In The Road By Cormac Mccarthy
Where there is life, there is hope. In The Road by Cormac McCarthy a recurring theme is hope,
whether it is losing or gaining it. Throughout this novel there are countless instances and events that
occur in which all seems lost at a dead end, but in this moment hope carries through and flourishes. In
this post apocalyptic world the man and boy or fight to stay alive while keeping their humanity. As
well as searching for what humanity is left in this kill or be killed cannibalistic planet. As their time
journeying down the road increases, so do the dangers they face to survive. The more they overcome
the more hope thrives in them showing that in even in the most catastrophic events having hope helps
them get closer to finding the light at the end of the tunnel. Hope is the reason why, the father and son
travel to find shelter, hope is the reason why they haven t giving up on humanity and the son is the
father s hope that is the reason why he is still alive. First of all, hope is the reason why the father and
his son travel. The boy and the father begin their travel by the south to the roads because they will not
survive winter, living in the mountains. The boy and father hide from a group people called the
roadagents who have turned crazy and into cannibals because of the apocalypse, they use cannibalism
in order to eat because of of the world s natural resources have been destroyed because of the
apocalypse. Before they traveled to the south, the boy s mother

Evaluation Of A Teacher Classroom Management Plan Evaluation
Clinical Cooperating Teacher Classroom Management Plan Evaluation Positive reinforcement plays a
major role in the classroom management plan in my cooperating teacher s classroom. In this fourth
grade class, students are grouped in groups of four or five who work as a team to earn marbles. Each
group has a marble jar on their storage shelf in their group where the teacher will add a variety of
different sized marbles. Students can earn marbles for following directions, answering questions,
paying attention, helping others, being a good listener, and many other positive behaviors and good
choices. Different size marbles represent a different amount of tickets that students can earn to use to
purchase rewards. Some rewards include a free homework pass, lunch with a friend, lunch with the
teacher; sit in the rocking chair during reading time, or choosing a prize from the prize box. As I
observed the class, I realized this system works really well for this group of students. The teacher
would give the class directions. For example, please get out your math journals and a pencil. The
teacher did not have to say anything about earning marbles. All she did was gather a handful of
marbles, begin walking around the room looking for a group who was following direction and ready to
work. Once she spotted a group doing what was asked, she placed the marbles in their jar. She
followed the steps until she was out of marbles. Students were ready to work fast. The clink

Girl Interrupted Research Paper
The movie Girl, Interrupted is about a young woman named Susanne, who struggles with life and
depression. When she attempts suicide, she is sent to a mental institution, where the psychiatrist
diagnosed her with borderline personality disorder (Mangold, 1999). This disorder s symptoms
include instability in relationships, identity disturbance, impulsivity, emotional instability, and chronic
feelings of emptiness (National Institute of Mental Health, 2013). What is personality? What causes a
person to have a personality disorder? Why do people behave and think differently and what
influences these behaviors? There have been many theorists who have tried to find the answers to
these questions. Research has produced many theories of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Attention is the set of processes through which a person focuses on incoming information. These
people define problem solving as operating within constraints and reaching a goal from a starting state
that is nowhere near the goal (Riegler, Riegler, 2009). Decision making is an interaction of these
processes to make a decision. Each of these mental processes can be difficult to understand, but the
human brain does most of the work without any one individual having to put too much effort into
making it happen. Everyone s mental process is different and unique from the next person, which is
correlated to each individual s personality and how these traits influences these different behaviors.
Take, for example, Susanne in Girl, Interrupted . Susanne talked often about having detailed thought
about suicide, and the requirements of a successful suicide, and then attempted suicide followed by
denial. Aspects of personality can change throughout life, and are influenced by both internal factors
(genetics) and external factors (environment). Other aspects, such as temperament, or stable individual
differences in emotional reactivity, remain the same. Personality theories have many differences,
however, one aspect of personality that many theorists agree upon is that genetic factors influence
their child s personality. Specifically, how they are influences and

Sceptics Challenge
Assess the Contextualist s response to the sceptic s challenge. The sceptics challenge revolves around
whether we can have knowledge of the external world. The sceptic gives three scenarios where you
are deceived; your senses are occasionally deceived for example for objects far in the distance size,
dreams can be so realistic that you take them to be fact, and you could be deceived by a evil demon
controlling your senses (adapted recently to the brain in a vat argument) and these are phenomenally
indistinguishable from real life. The Contextualist responds to the sceptics challenge by saying we can
both know a lot (Lewis, 1996) and know next to nothing (Lewis, 1996). The Contextualist justifies
this by saying that we have two forms of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is due to knowledge being context dependent. A example of this is I know Peter is strong in an
everyday context, however if you put him in a weightlifting competition Peter will no longer be
considered strong as this is now relative to weightlifters. This therefore allows us to say we have
knowledge of everyday things such as having two hands without considering the sceptics challenge
due to knowledge being context dependent. I believe that this is a good method of dealing with the
sceptics challenge as you don t have to engage with the sceptic to have everyday knowledge. To say Y
knows X, X s evidence eliminates every possibility that not X. The differentiation comes through what
you consider every possibility in a low form this is every reasonable possibility, and in a high context
its every single possibility. This therefore alters the domain of what you have to reject as in a high
context the domain is much larger than in a low context. I believe that this is a strength as you can
interpret every situation in two different contexts, this conserves the power of knowledge in a high
context and also allows us to discuss knowledge in a everyday context. This therefore refutes global
(Cartesian) scepticism as it allows you to have some form of knowledge. However this can also be
considered an issue as the rule of attention shows that it is very easy to lose knowledge by shifting
from a low to a high context, as soon as you add a possibility you cannot ignore it and therefore you
lose knowledge as soon as your attention is drawn to a sceptical scenario. This is a weakness as you
could argue that children have more knowledge than philosophers, as they haven t been drawn to the
attention of the sceptical scenario even though they only have low knowledge. This method is
particularly useful in solving the sceptics

Which words or phrases are ambiguous?
Ambiguity means doubtful or uncertain especially from obscurity or indistinctness and or capable of
being understood in two or more possible senses or ways. The VP definitely left me with doubt or
uncertainty in my mind. He stated Once we start sending some people for leadership training, we will
start getting numerous requests for expensive training that we simply can t afford. Regardless, if we
spend our money on leadership development, we will not have enough to spend on recruitment. This
appeared to be ambiguous because he stated that the company had a growth rate of 12.5 percent
without the program. So I don t understand why they would not continue to grow at that time. They
would have more qualified executives to help the company to profit in the upper level executive
management. Then he stated There are plenty of people who are already leaders; we do not need to
train those who are not. This shows me that the company could possibly use the program. I understand
that they could at least try the program and it won t hurt the company. Instead, Ms. Forsythe has a

Completing The Triangle In The Odyssey
Jacques Lacan s graph illustrates three (Imaginary, Real, Symbolic) registers that connect into a
triangle. Reality (Phallus) is pictured as in between the Imaginary and the Real. This effect creates an
idea of fantasy in the subject. From imaginary to symbolic, lies the representation of unconscious
truth. This reveals symbolic identifications throughout their history. Completing the triangle, is
Symbolic to Real. Between these two is semblance (le Objet petit a), acting as the object of desire.
The middle of the triangle, (Jouissance) is emerging from the Real, acting as the subjects symptom or

instinctual demand. This leads them to identify ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

bulletin boards overflowing with her student s accomplishments adorned her classroom walls.
Walking into this space fills students as well as visitors with a warm, welcoming feeling. A
thoughtfully placed bright blue rug lays at the front of the classroom. Desks are arranged in clusters of
five. The clusters are positioned near the front of the classroom situated near the smart board. The
total number of learners in Mrs. Peterson s class is twenty. There are eleven male students and nine
female students. Demographics of this group of learners consist of one Asian student, three African
American students, and sixteen Caucasian students. Two of Mrs. Peterson s students have IEP s due to

explaining that the focus of the day would center on the topic of main ideas and supporting details in

main idea and supporting details, but they should also be able to rationalize the why factor. While
Mrs. Peterson was introducing the concept of the lesson, she circulated from table to table to ensure

Wrongful Convictions And The Criminal Justice System
This paper takes a leap into the corrupted side of the criminal justice system. After analyzing several
articles regarding wrongful conviction cases in the Unites States, it is apparent that wrongful
conviction cases occur more often than society believed. It has come to surface in recent years that
wrongful convictions are a big problem with our criminal justice system. Researchers have discovered
the causes of wrongful convictions to be bad lawyering, government misconduct, informants, false
confessions, flawed forensic science and eyewitness error. Furthermore, this paper explores the affects
victims face due to a wrongful conviction. As society has begun to steadily realize that miscarriage of
justice is a possibility, researchers have considered reforms to the criminal justice system. Wrongful
Convictions in the Criminal Justice System During recent studies from several researchers it has been
concluded that there is a fault within our criminal justice system. Researchers discovered there is a
high wrongful conviction rate within the United States judicial system. After, extensive research, it
was found that wrongful convictions are caused by eyewitness error, false confessions, flawed
forensic science, an informant, bad lawyering, and government misconduct. Without a doubt, this
issue has shocked society, due to the fact we rely on the system for pure justice. Within my findings, it
is apparent that victims of wrongful convictions suffer numerous affects when

The American Culture And Values
Critiquing American Culture and Values: (The Social) Network The emergence of novel forms of
communication in American history tends to produce two contrasting reactions: general acceptance
from society and moral outrage from a limited, vocal portion of the public. As a medium, film was met
in such a fashion with the creation of the Production Code Administration in 1934, designed by
Catholic leaders to uphold their conception of American values. At the same time, the example of
Middletown depicted a rural community incorporating the experience of film into their regular lives,
treating it as entertainment alongside shows at the opera house. Decades later, we see film utilized to
criticize the social impact of emerging communicative methods, including television and social media
in the form of Network (1976) and The Social Network (2010). A method of universal programing, by
which centralized, censored content is broadcast in synchronous to an audience discriminant only by
which of the four major networks they choose to view is the portrayal of television afforded by the
characters aimed to garner the most sympathy in Network. The voices of reason and morality in the
film, older folks seen as untainted by television and corporate greed condemn television for replacing
genuine human interaction with hollow facades of conformity and pre scripted emotions. While
concerns over lacking human connection and false human emotions remain, social media has
produced a new problem, a

The Right Of Free Speech And Freedom Of Press
The right many Americans take for granted every day is the ability to speak to one another and to
express their opinions through verbal and non verbal means of communication. The First Amendment
provides the right of free speech and freedom of press to the people. The Bill of Rights, also known as
the first 10 amendments to the Constitution went into effect on Dec. 15, 1791, when the state of
Virginia ratified it, giving the bill the majority of ratifying states required to protect citizens from the
power of the federal government. One must ask, why would such a right need to be thought about for
so long before enacting it for the people? Why has this never been considered to be a universal right
that every man and woman should have across the world? Historically, in the development of Western
Civilization and prior to the colonization of the Eastern states by the British Monarchy, the British
colonies were not even states yet, let alone united. Neighboring countries Canada and Mexico were
variously governed by the French Canadians, where the French influence can be felt to this day, in
places from Quebec to Montreal, by the Spaniards in California, and the British in what is now British
Columbia. Parts of California and Texas were also under Spanish and Mexican occupation. What
England, France, and Spain had in common were monarchies as governments, with the King or Queen
conflated with the Church as ordained by God. The common people were peasants in a feudal

Essay on Family Trust in William Shakespeare s Plays
Family Trust in William Shakespeare s Plays
Family is meant to care for each other, love each other unconditionally, and support each other. Of
course, as any holiday at home can prove, complete support is not always possible. Sometimes family
members hurt each other and even, in worst case scenarios, kill each other over issues as important as
protecting another or as petty as fighting over a boy. In Shakespeare s Othello, Macbeth, Hamlet,
Romeo and Juliet, King Lear, and The Winter s Tale, if family members operate with selfish motives,
they hurt the hero and contribute to his fall; but if the family supports each other with only love, the
hero can redeem himself from his fall and even succeed in finding lasting happiness. ... Show more

However, while she does have genuine love for him, she also is power hungry. If her husband
becomes King, she will be Queen, and the thought of such nobility entices her. Her wants are selfish
because they hurt Macbeth and she forces him to act through a combination of emasculation, saying,
When you durst do it, then you were a man (1.7.49), and sexual manipulation, drawing attention to her
breasts with, I have given suck (1.7.54). She never tells him to act because it will make him happy or
even to act because she loves him. Later in the play, she realizes her wrongs and goes mad. The doctor
remarks, infected minds/To their deaf pillows will discharge their secrets (5.1.62 63), implying that
she is sick in the head because of her wrong doings. She obviously feels remorse when she
sleepwalks, trying to wash away the imaginary blood because she says, Hell is murky (5.1.31),
showing her fear of what fate she will meet after she dies. If her motives were only fused with love
and support for her husband, she would not have felt the compulsion to better her hierarchal standing
in society and would have been content to live as a noblewoman. Furthermore, she would have seen
that Macbeth has no initial want or need to kill and that his prophesy would have been fulfilled
without his own interference as Banquo s had been.

Analysis of Moral Luck Views of Aristotle and Epictetus Essay
Analysis of Moral Luck Views of Aristotle and Epictetus
Aristotle, the founder of western science, and Epictetus, one of the greatest stoicists, both has their
theories for the issue of Moral Luck . To have a basic idea about the topic, I believe we should
describe it from a non philosophical point of view. After doing that we can compare both Aristotle s
and Epictetus points of views and distinguish between them with examples from Into Thin Air (ITA),
written by Jon Krakauer.
Moral Luck, if described from general perspective, consists of the actions that happen by luck and
result in moral ends. What I mean by moral ends is the situations that have something to do with
moral or ethical ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
(ITA, pg47) This example illustrates what I am trying to say. Things that are not in our control are
other people s actions, and things that are not up to us are those actions consequences.
Moreover, things can be in our control one minute and not the next. In a car accident, steering the
wheel might save you from the accident in a specific time. After that time, no matter how much you
steer the wheel you can t escape the unavoidable truth. This, as a matter of fact, concerns the issue of
chance. However, since chance is related to luck, we are concerned with this as well.
Let s concentrate on each philosopher more deeply now. First let s take a look at some of the issues
that Aristotle points out in his book Nicomachean Ethics. He states that moral luck is concerned with
situations that are not in our control. Moreover, if someone is virtuous he cannot escape from moral
luck. However, you have to be virtuous to get away from it. That is to say, only the virtuous man has
the greatest chance of dealing with moral luck since he will not need it. He also states that everything
has a function. Human beings for instance have the function of reasoning. To define function of
something we first need to find its genus, and then search for particular uniqueness that differ it from
the others in the same genus. Lastly, he

The focus of the painting is based on the two soldiers passing the shell to each other and then into to
the artillery to shoot against the German army. The gesture of working together in harsh realities
carries the message of unity and self sacrifice for the war. One soldier does not have his uniform on
meaning no protective gear that characterizes unselfishness in the center of a great battle.
Furthermore, there is a soldier, who has an injury on his hand, yet still continuing to fight. The wound
shows contribution in the face of danger and heroism marked by the bandaged arm on his return to the
conflict. It sets an example of selflessness and bravery and the artist shows that in war, sacrifice can be
represented by their schedule of duty.

Application Of A Penetration Testing Against `` My House...
Chapter 3: Practical test
My House lab Scenario.
For this coursework I have decided to perform a penetration testing against My House lab , to evaluate
and improve my WLAN Infrastructure security.
The scenario that I had examined is a WLAN Infrastructure Network using a Virgin Media Super Hub
(Netgear) , with more than 10 devices connected .
Looking on the internet about the router model I own I could make an interesting discovery. I found an
article written by an expert in computer security, Paul Moore, dating back to March 2014(Paul
Moore,2014). This guy, a year ago, had found a flaw inside the super hub of VirginMedia. Indeed
reboot the router took 1 minute to start well, and in this minute for seven seconds was able to access
the WiFi network without the need for key. Fortunately Paul contacted the Virgin who in turn
contacted the Netgear to try to resolve the issue with the release of a new firmware.
Now the problem is resolved, however is an interesting issue happened, because sometimes, our
security depends not only on us and what we can do to protect it and keep it. Sometimes there may be
larger obstacles, as in this case an error of firmware that we can circumvent but not eliminate (until the
company responsible is not able to patch it).
Methodologies
I adopted different steps to performing penetration testing that is effective in testing how well the My
House lab is secure. I have used different softwares such as NMap , Wareshark,

Arguments In Favor Of Immigration In The US
Immigration in the U.S. has made in big difference in the economy. Many people think they deserve to
stay, but then some like Donald Trump believe they don t deserve to stay. Most immigrants cross the
border for the opportunity to work, some come in hope for a better life for their family. Only a few of
the immigrants that are brave enough to take the trip actually stay in the U.S. Their jobs were often
dangerous and dirty, they worked long hours, and didn t get paid much. Almost all immigrants are not
lucky enough to find good jobs, with decent pay. If you are in the country illegally, you are not an
American citizen. When the immigrants that come to our country and believe they automatically have
the right to vote and have a job that is well paying is wrong. These illegals do not pay taxes for
schools, healthcare, and many more things. Many people think they should still be able to get a job so
they can pay for these things and become a citizen, but they do not realize it is just taking away jobs
for people who are here legally or the people that were born here. People should not be so quick to

Perceval Vs Gilgamesh
Every good story needs a hero to inspire the readers. The hero s in stories can be relatable with the
struggles that they face, providing support and motivation to those in need. The hero stories of
Gilgamesh and Perceval accounts tails of the struggle to find oneself, the true meaning of who they
are and what they are supposed to become is lost on both of them. Our heroes share many similarities
and some differences in their journeys from childhood to manhood. The stories provide information
on the hero family and childhood, their strengths and weaknesses, their motivations, the trials and
moral conflicts that they faced, and how the conclusion to each story share a similar message. The

For Gilgamesh, a demigod, living in a world with powerful and wise God and Goddess parents, he is
unable to live up to the legacy they have already established. For Gilgamesh, being part human, he can
t control his arrogance. Gilgamesh is used to getting what he wants when he wants it. The weaknesses
in Gilgamesh are most prevalent in his fear of death. Gilgamesh knows that he is mortal, and will
never be like his parents, who are immortal. It s a constant struggle to be like them or be better than
they are but never quite being able to reach it. It s a losing battle no matter what you do. However,
Gilgamesh does have strengths, he is physically gifted, and he has God like strength and can use this
to his advantage. Gilgamesh s main strength is his partner Enkidu. Perceval has his own set of
strengths and weaknesses that contrast those in Gilgamesh. Perceval is very loyal to his mother, he is a
hard worker and a provider. Perceval being sheltered by his mother makes him oblivious to the world
around him. Perceval is unaware of what his destiny is as his mother is trying to keep him hidden
away forever, never to explore the world. Perceval has all the skills within him to be a great knight,
but his greatest weakness might actually be his own mother who instead of letting him realize his
destiny, is selfish is keeping him for herself. The two heroes are in sharp contrast from one another in

Essay about Moliere s Tartuffe
The Pen Is Mightier Than The Sword The most forceful lines of a serious moral statement are usually
less powerful than those of satire, and nothing will reform most men better than the depiction of their
faults (Moliere s preface to Tartuffe). Jean Baptiste Poquelin Moliere s play Tartuffe caused much
controversy on its release upon the reigning king of France at that time. This comedy of greed, lust,
deceit, hypocrisy, devotion, ardor, and truth had to be rewritten three times before the clergy approved
it for public viewing. It especially angered a group called The Brotherhood, which was dedicated to
the preservation of very strict religious observances. Moliere was merely finding a way to express his
thoughts about several attitudes ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A classic example of this was when she clearly tells the rest of her son s family that Tartuffe practices
precisely what he preaches and is a fine man. She goes on to say that she will not hear Tartuffe be
mocked by fools such as the family members whose company she is in. These examples relate to
Moliere s time, because the Clergy at that time were using the veil of religion to cover up intentions,
which were not religion at all, abusing the power that they were given. Absolute power corrupts
absolutely. In Moliere s Tartuffe, the abuse of power was a theme that was very prevalent in the play,
as well as in, Moliere s society at that time as well. One of the main aspects that this play focuses on is
Orgon s desire to preserve control in his family. As the patron to his family, he feels powerful and
benevolent. One of the ways he further extends this responsibility he feels he has, he supports Tartuffe
as well, financially, emotionally, by any means possible. Ordon thinks in helping Tartuffe, he is
helping himself, but ironically, it will only hurt him in the end. Another problem in Moliere s time was
that of hiding behind absolute power as a shield. The father of the family, in Tartuffe, had absolute
power over his daughter s choice of marriage partner. The minute he feels insecure, after his family
scolds him about Tartuffe, he arranges his daughter to be married to him, just because he has the
power to do that. That was the problem

Essay on Spiral of Silence
Public communication is very important when in a discussion with coworkers and such. The one
weakness that some people run into is silence. The spiral of silence theory by Elisabeth Noelle
Neumann explains why certain people fall under the pressure and seclude to silence. Silence may not
always be a bad thing, but according to a study by Lucy J. MacGregor, the fact is that silence during a
speech or conversation is absolutely bad. With this, silence while talking to a large group negatively
affects the listeners in a way in which some words in the speech will not be remembered. The point is
that silence tends to destroy people s speeches. Words are forgotten in the speech; Loss of the attention
by the listeners happens and the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In every high school, there are the jocks, the band, the nerds, the people on drugs, the religious and so
on and so forth. Some of these groups were known as the popular group and some were known as the
creeps. These names that are given to the groups still happen in everyday life when you are older and
this also affects whether or not the person will speak up about a certain topic. When certain groups
have to keep secrets from other groups for safety reasons, this does not help the silence situation at all.
The fact that groups are keeping secrets from others means that they do not trust anyone else which
forces groups into silence and they cannot voice their opinion anymore. The Spiral of Silence has a
key voice in the workplace, which involves the use of presentations. One thing affected by the listener
not wanting to support the speaker is the fact of whether or not the listener is actually paying attention
(Denham Vaughan 7). It has been said that listeners are more than likely to lose their attention when
there is a break in the speech by the speaker. When this happens, the listener is more than likely going
to jumble up sentences together and guess the wrong word to finish the current statement that the
speaker broke the pause with. This happens because the train of thought is said to be interrupted and
lose focus on the certain topic. Viewing the eyes and seeing the horizontal and vertical movement

Project Of Moral Perfection Benjamin Franklin
Franklin s ideas expressed through the Project of Moral Perfection supports the views of reason and
self improvement that s connected to the Enlightenment, for one of Benjamin Franklin s main points
includes self efficacy. Enlightenment intellectuals believed that rational thought could lead to human
improvement and was the most valid mode of thinking. They also saw the ability to reason as the most
valuable human capacity as well. For, reason could help humans break free from ignorance and
irrationality, and learning to think reasonably could teach one to act better. In his autobiography,
Franklin does exactly this by aiming to become a better person, morally. He planned to achieve moral
perfection by breaking bad habits and learning

Hearing impairments are defined by the federal government as, an impairment in hearing, wether

definition of deafness (Friend, 2012). Children who are hearing impaired make up a small percentage
of the students in the school system, and it is considered to be low incidence impairment. In fact, in
2009, around 1.3 percent of school age children are considered to have some form of hearing

In addition to this, because of his language difficulties he has trouble understanding educational
language in the classroom. So he struggles with many subjects, specifically language and math.
Mathematics uses specialized language such as conditionals, negatives, and symbols that create
barriers for students who are deaf or hard of hearing (Livingston, 1997). As could be expected,
students who struggle with understanding basic communications with adults and peers will especially
struggle with academic language that they are faced with in schooling situations. This lack of
understanding of language leads to Jason becoming frustrated with his work and easily distracted.
There are many services that students are entitled to when they are classified with deafness or having a

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Peer To Peer Lenders
Peer to Peer lending is a unique method that links borrowers and lenders relatively quick and
inexpensive without financial intermediaries. With technological advances in recent years including
the boom of electronic money, transactions in peer to peer lending programs have become more and
more commonly used around the globe. This type of financial service carries both advantages (peer to
peer communities have a quick and easy online application process for both lenders and borrowers
(Schneider 2008)) and disadvantages (potential exposure to more risk) for those lending their funds as
well as people taking out these loans.
Borrowers can experience unique advantages through peer to peer lending compared to other types of
financial loan methods. For example, If a potential borrower bears a shaky financial history but a
sympathetic story as to why they think they should qualify for a loan, a lender can still grant a loan
and choose to undergo a higher rate of return, assuming there is greater risk to fund this loan
(Schneider 2008). Financial institutions such as banks or credit unions that would normally turn away
these people, borrowers have an increased opportunity with peer to peer lending (Schneider 2008).
Additionally, a borrower gets a more favorable interest rate on their loan than one would otherwise
have gotten from funding elsewhere say through a bank or a credit card company because they have a
pool of potential lenders to choose from (Investopedia 2017).

The Strategic Intent Of Each Company
Introduction
Technology Products was bought out in 1986 by a manufacturing firm from Cleveland. This firm, in
turn, sold the electronics division plants which manufacture computer chips to different investors.
From this sale, the two plants were divided into separate companies, Acme Electronics and Omega.
(Daft, 2015, p. 171) The purpose of this case study analysis is to look at the strategic intent of each
company, their organizational goals, and how each company performed while competing for a major
photocopier manufacturer s project.
Background
As stated earlier, Acme and Omega were originally under the umbrella of Technology Products. The
electronics division was sold and split up into separate entities. Attention will now turn to ... Show

Acme
Acme Electronics have established the following organizational goals increased profitability that
reflects the overall performance, increased productivity and high volume output, retention of original
management structure developed by Technological Products, and internal efficiency. (Daft, 2015, p.

Omega
While Omega Electronics have documented these as their organizational goals where employee are
satisfaction and have a feeling of belonging within the organization, employees are familiar with all
activities throughout the organization, and there is increased the overall performance of coordination
and internal processes across the company. (Daft, 2015, p. 171)
Attention will now turn to the impact of management relating to successful completion of the
prototype for each company.
Impact of Management
It can be argued that the success of any business is dependent on the effectiveness of management. It
is expected that managers will make good decisions and will exploit the business strengths to gain
future opportunities while correcting internal weaknesses in order to protect the business from both

because no matter what path you choose in life, there are some very real ways to approach it that have
been proven to be of value over and over again. Following are some life quotes from people who have
learned a thing or two from their existence that should have you nodding your head in agreement. 1.

Thompson Often in life we think we have two choices this way or that way. But, life doesn t always
boil down to those two choices if you choose to change your life. Changing your life is about
changing your beliefs and intentions in life, and then seeing what else is available to you. For instance,
young people are often faced with the choice of going to college or getting a job. Travelling, starting
their own business, volunteering, joining a monastery, joining a band, or a number of other things are
choices that are out there, just not for life as they know it. However, if they break out of their mindset
and see these choices as viable, then a whole new world of choices opens up to them. Life is not black
or white. There are many different paths in life, and just because you only see a sign with two choices
on which way to go next, doesn t mean that there isn t another path with different signs that you can
jump on. You just have to find it first. 9. Live In Reality If you live a life of make believe, your life isn

Teens And Teen Suicide
Teen Suicide According to Maureen and Kayla (78), adolescent depression is a serious problem
affecting 10.7% of all teens and 29.9% of high school students whereby, 17% of the latter are
supposed to have contemplated suicide in general. Notably, this statistic conveys the seriousness with
which the issue needs to be addressed with because, ostensibly, most of the depression cases, which
ultimately lead to suicide incidences among teens, are still going unrecognized. Moreover, as
American Psychological Association asserts, the primary cause of suicidal distress include social,
environmental, and psychological factors (par. 2). Additionally, the former also notes that suicide risk
factors vary with certain aspects including age, ethnic group, stressful life events, family dynamics,
and gender among other factors. In precision, it is admissible that despite the many aspects that are
supposed to be the main cause of suicide cases among teens, failure to recognize and treat, or rather,
address the causative agents of suicidal conditions could be the primary reason for the rampancy
regarding the issue. Therefore, if, for instance, medical practitioners and parents among other involved
individuals seek to curb teen suicide, it first necessitates their understanding of the problem including
reasons that might lead a teenager to develop suicidal thoughts.
Contrary to American Psychological Association s supposition that mental illness is the leading risk
factor for suicide, in

Joan Of Arc And The Three Heroes Of The Present
People have many ideas and different ways of thinking of what makes a person a hero. A hero can be
defined as a person that is recognized and known for their acts of courage, has achieved a great
accomplishment or goal, or has noble qualities. According to Akbar S. Ahmed, a hero is someone who
is endowed with extraordinary qualities of heart and mind, sets out to achieve a near impossible goal
and succeeds in the face of serious opposition (8). This research paper will analyze the acts of three
heroes from the past (pre 1700) with three heroes of the present (1950 to present). The three heroes of

and for providing food for the settlers through trade with the Native Americans. He is also well known

the region for 60 years. According to Cooper, John Smith deserves, perhaps, a place among the iconic
founding father figures of the nation. (6). Smith was one of the original governing council members
and his explorations were a part of what shaped the nation. Cooper also stated, As a council member
in the Jamestown settlement and because of his explorations, his map, and its role in attracting settlers,
John Smith helped shape his time and the future. (6). Smith would meet Ahmed s definition of a hero
because he was endowed with extraordinary qualities of heart and mind. The council was proving to
be ineffective so Smith stepped forward as the leader and the moving spirit (Arber, xiii) to lead the
expeditions. The colonists were suffering from malnutrition due to the lack of food, disease, and
Indian attacks. Smith set out to achieve a near impossible goal when he chose to lead the expeditions

Adversity in Lord of the Flies Essay
In Lord of the Flies , how does Golding explore the main characters struggle against adversity?
Adversity is presented in many forms during Lord of the Flies for the main character Ralph. It comes
not only in the form of other people but a corruption of what society the boys on the island have
managed to hold onto.
One of the strongest forms of adversity came in the form of a strong and outspoken boy Jack; Jack
often overwhelms and disregards things that Ralph, the chief of the boys on the island, has said to be
done. Ralph, we can see, struggles to hold his control over the group of boys when Jack refuses to

and overcome the fear the littluns had instilled upon themselves associated with the beast . Golding
does this by changing the way Ralph handles the crisis and changing his basic survival instincts back
to that of the society the boys have left behind and learn to be compassionate towards the obviously
scared young boys. This is obvious because throughout the book Ralph has been harsh, we can see this
most in the first few chapters where he himself is obviously scared at the prospect of surviving with
no adult help or guidance, we can see this through the way Golding has made Ralph speak and react to
the other characters, such as his harshness to another key figure in the book, Piggy. An example of this
is the fact that Ralph continuously tells Piggy to Shut up . However, when he understands the littluns
fear of the beast , his tone softens and he understands that they need to be protected and looked after to

people that were mainly from the middle class, doing extraordinary things. An example of this is
Puccini s Madama Butterfly, which is set in the contemporary world, and deals with an American
sailor and his Japanese bride. The opera challenges the superficially exotic world of Japan that it
inhabits, and ends with a geisha girl committing suicide on stage. In Madama Butterfly, Puccini blends
the musical styles from Italy, Japan, and America to create an opera for all.
While opera was and has been rooted in its own nationality, composers started to include the ideas of
exoticism in their writing. At this time, Japan had closed themselves off from other lands for about
300 years. When they opened up, westerners were curious about the Japanese culture and vise versa.
Rudolf Dittrich was a teacher of western music at the Tokyo School of Music, Puccini quotes Dittrich
s music many times throughout Madama Butterfly in order to create a hybrid of Westernized Japanese
style . Puccini uses this hybrid style instead of authentic Japanese melodies in order to accentuate the
drama of Butterfly s

Everybody Dance Now Analysis
Sun Woo Kim: Paper #1
Regardless of the era, people who belong to it will dance at least once in their lifetime. One can go as
far as to say that dancing is crucial to one s overall happiness. Realizing this significance, C+C Music
Factory produced a song called Gonna Make You Sweat to inspire the world to dance. It reached its
peak in the week of February 5th, the day I was born and stayed on the Billboard 100 number one for
mere two weeks.
Gonna Make You Sweat, or also known as Everybody Dance Now, is a song by C+C Music Factory.
This song is comprised of two components, the rap and vocal, performed by Freedom Williams and
disco/house artist Martha Wash. After it was released in December 1990, it was considered a
worldwide smash and reached number one on the Billboard Hot 100 for two weeks in February 1991.
This song was also number one on Billboard s Top R B Singles and on Hot Dance Music/Club Play as
well.
Most songs that are of such hype do not contain lyrics of much substance; nonetheless, ... Show more

It has fast tempo and a regular rhythm. Martha Wash sings Everybody Dance Now and is later
followed by the rap of Freedom Williams. This illustrates the combination of both rap and gospel type
vocal. The chorus gives the song repetition that allows the audience to feel at ease and enjoy the
upbeat music. Also, Wash s chorus is very high pitched and produces much tension within the listener;
nonetheless, William s low key rap gives the resolution that they need.
C+C Music Factory were a group comprised of extremely skilled members and it is not surprising that
they produced a hit like that of Gonna Make You Sweat. As a group effort, they created a music with
lyrics that gave rise to ecstatic emotions within the audience and with just the right musical style. It is
a shame that it was released the week I was born; I wish to have lived during that week to experience
the effects the song had on the

Multiple Concussions Research Paper
A concussion is a traumatic brain injury that disrupts the normal function of the brain. The injury may
damage the brain cells and create chemical changes in the brain (CDC). They are usually not life
threatening, but the effects can be serious (CDC), especially if a person receives multiple concussions.
Something that makes a concussion dangerous or life threatening is that the person may not even
know that they have one or they may just shake it off and not pay attention to it. It is very common in
athletes, but also appears in other people who receive an impact to the brain.
The brain is a fragile organ. It is cushioned by cerebrospinal fluid that acts as a shock absorber for
minor impacts (Sports Concussion Institute). A concussion is caused by a bump, blow, or jolt to the
head. These types of impacts are usually received during a sport, car accident, fall, etc. Cerebrospinal
fluid is not enough to protect the brain. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Getting multiple concussions can lead to cognitive impairments, which means that the person may
struggle with attention, memory, learning, critical thinking, and reasoning skills (Mental Health
Daily). It can also lead to motor decline, which means the person may struggle with their balance,
coordination, or movement (Mental Health Daily). They may also suffer problems with
communication, meaning the way they talk or process what others are saying (Mental Health Daily).
And they can also suffer from Neurodegeneration, which means neurons lose their function or even
the death of neurons. Neurodegeneration could lead to a person suffering from a disease like dementia.
This is why a person who has suffered from a concussion must fully recover, meaning they have no
more symptoms and their brain has healed completely, before they restart any activity that can cause

The Rape Of Nanking And The Three Of The Art Works During...
Korea was Japanese colony from 1910 to 1945. Korea had to endure many adversities and hardships
during the Japanese colonial period. Japanese did not treat Koreans as a human. They fiercely ignored
and brutally harassed Koreans, as they wanted to. At a similar time, during World War II, Japanese did
nasty and cruel brutalities to the Chinese as they did to the Koreans. After the World War II, Chinese
still have many problems that have not been apologized by Japanese. One of the problems that
Chinese faced during the war was the rape. Women were the most vulnerable existence during the war,
and they were easiest existence to control. We can learn how the horror of the war affects on women.
Through out the Iris Chang s The Rape of Nanking and the three of the art works during World War II,
which are Henri Matisse s Daisies in 1939, Wilhelm Freddie s Portable Garbo in 1941, and Jean
Dubuffet s Two Nude Woman in 1942, we can recognize how the book and art use the same object,
women in different point of view. The Rape of Nanking by Iris Chang exposed the atrocities of the
Japanese military during the World War II in the Chinese capital city, Nanking. Iris Chang is a Chinese
American who was born and raised in the United States. She depicts the inhumane violence
committed by the Japanese army during the war through various records and interview materials of
survivors. From the perspective of Japan, victim, and the America and Europe, she states how Japan,

Cultural And Regional Awareness Through All Units
According to the Chief of Staff of the Army, GEN Ray Odierno our country s most recent set of
conflicts have made it clear the Army needs to expand their levels of cultural and regional awareness
through all units. (Odierno 2012) The Army has decided to answer this problem by creating a
regionally aligning forces (RAF) strategy to focus units on a particular geographic region. Brigades,
Divisions, Corps, and support forces will focus on a specific region within their normal training
program and focus their unit s scope with cultural training and language familiarization. This redesign
will theoretically provide increased support to the Combatant Commands and capitalize on the current
Total Force concept to team up the Active, Guard and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
(U.S. Army 2014) With units that have experience in advising, training and partnering with foreign
forces through a decade plus at war, the RAF concept capitalizes on current readiness. The 2nd
Brigade Combat Team, 1st Infantry Division (2BCT, 1AD) from Fort Polk was one of the first units to
align, working through U.S. Army Africa Command to establish an East Africa Response Force. The
alignment allowed the leaders to focus their training and change the training paradigm. With help from
the U.S. Army Military Intelligence Center of Excellence of Fort Huachuca, Ariz., as well as the
NATO School Oberammergau in Germany the unit focused on cultural, geopolitical, regional conflicts
unique to the African continent and their culture and vastly different from their Iraq and Afghanistan
experience. (Villa 2014)
The Total Force partnership will be vastly more important in countries that have existing relationships
through the National Guard State Partnership Program (SPP). The SPP is a Department of Defense
(DoD) security cooperation program created in 1991, that matches state National Guards with foreign
countries to conduct joint activities including visits between senior military leaders and knowledge
sharing in areas such as disaster management that further U.S.

The slipping fault then creates seismic waves in the surrounding rock. Seismic waves create the sound
waves in the air. It also carries energy away from the fault, first to nearby rock. In hours to follow or
even days many small earthquakes occur. These are referred to as aftershocks. Aftershocks are a result
of rocks near the fault adjusting to accommodate the new stress levels.
In order to understand the size of an earthquake certain items must be taken into consideration.
Strength, classification of seismic waves, logarithm and intensity are some of the main areas to focus
on. The strength depends upon the area of the fault length times width on which the slip occurs, the
amount of the slip and the inherent stiffness of the nearby rock. An earthquake occurring a 100 km (62
mi) fault is about one billion times stronger than a quake on a 100 m (328 ft) fault. Seismic waves are
classified in two areas P waves, which are your compressional waves, and S waves, which are shear
waves. These waves are used in detection and location of earthquakes. Several thousand seismometers
are in continuous operation worldwide. These stations record ground motions, detect waves even at
great distances from the fault as well as measure arrival time of P and S waves. Logarithm of moment

Essay about Shrek s Message
Shrek s Message
In traditional fairy tales, ogres are man eating beasts. The prince usually rescues the princess, they
marry and live happily ever after. How do the makers of Shrek use presentational devices to reverse
this tradition, to reveal the Ogre as good, and the Prince as evil?
In this essay I am going to analyse the characters of Shrek and Lord Farquaad and write about how the
film makers use different interpretations making Shrek as good and the Prince as evil to create an
unusual fairytale.
In traditional fairytales they start with an elaborate book which opens up to tell the story, gradually
each page of the book turns to reveal the next page. The book starts by telling the ... Show more

When Donkey approaches, Shrek roars at him and tries to intimidate him, Donkey is not frightened
and Donkey responds to Shrek by laughing at him and is not intimated. Donkey says You need some

I? Shrek emplys that he is a monster but it doesn t scare Donkey. Donkey is very irritating towards
Shrek he runs into Shreks house and bounces on his chair. Shrek does not succeed when he tries to
stop Donkey, which suggests that Shrek isn t really a terrifying ogre! Unbeknown to Shrek fairytale
characters have been evicted by Lord Farquaad and came to Shreks swamp. Shrek noticed three mice
on his table and up his shoulder. It is comedy as he fails to catch the mice. Shrek shouts I m a

Main Features Of The September Guarantee Scheme
In the past young people who were 16 years and over were expected to either leave school and start
their employment or remain in school and continue their formal education. However it was noticed
that there was a high level of unemployment in the age bracket of 16 24 years. To change the situation
the government started a new arrangement called the September guarantee. This was aimed at young
people who were aged 14 18 years old.
The main features of the September guarantee scheme are as follows: • The participation age for
this scheme is presently up to the age of 18. • Young people can now continue with full time studies
in school or college or with an independent training provider. It also includes a sixth form college. •
They can also take a full time job or a volunteering role although these must be for 20 hours per week
or more in conjunction with part time training or education. • They can also get an apprenticeship or
a traineeship, which must include both a job/ work placement as well as a training element. • It also
apples to teenagers who leave school and complete a short course but change their mind. The
September Guarantee ensures that they are able to move to a different course they are interested in
pursuing.
To make sure all of these facilities are available to the young people the local authority makes a good
overview of the options available and identifies any gaps. They then make all this information
available to the young people from the age 13

  • 3. Evaluation Of A Teacher Classroom Management Plan Evaluation Clinical Cooperating Teacher Classroom Management Plan Evaluation Positive reinforcement plays a major role in the classroom management plan in my cooperating teacher s classroom. In this fourth grade class, students are grouped in groups of four or five who work as a team to earn marbles. Each group has a marble jar on their storage shelf in their group where the teacher will add a variety of different sized marbles. Students can earn marbles for following directions, answering questions, paying attention, helping others, being a good listener, and many other positive behaviors and good choices. Different size marbles represent a different amount of tickets that students can earn to use to purchase rewards. Some rewards include a free homework pass, lunch with a friend, lunch with the teacher; sit in the rocking chair during reading time, or choosing a prize from the prize box. As I observed the class, I realized this system works really well for this group of students. The teacher would give the class directions. For example, please get out your math journals and a pencil. The teacher did not have to say anything about earning marbles. All she did was gather a handful of marbles, begin walking around the room looking for a group who was following direction and ready to work. Once she spotted a group doing what was asked, she placed the marbles in their jar. She followed the steps until she was out of marbles. Students were ready to work fast. The clink ... When she attempts suicide, she is sent to a mental institution, where the psychiatrist diagnosed her with borderline personality disorder (Mangold, 1999). This disorder s symptoms include instability in relationships, identity disturbance, impulsivity, emotional instability, and chronic feelings of emptiness (National Institute of Mental Health, 2013). What is personality? What causes a person to have a personality disorder? Why do people behave and think differently and what influences these behaviors? There have been many theorists who have tried to find the answers to these questions. Research has produced many theories of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Attention is the set of processes through which a person focuses on incoming information. These people define problem solving as operating within constraints and reaching a goal from a starting state that is nowhere near the goal (Riegler, Riegler, 2009). Decision making is an interaction of these processes to make a decision. Each of these mental processes can be difficult to understand, but the human brain does most of the work without any one individual having to put too much effort into making it happen. Everyone s mental process is different and unique from the next person, which is correlated to each individual s personality and how these traits influences these different behaviors. Take, for example, Susanne in Girl, Interrupted . Susanne talked often about having detailed thought about suicide, and the requirements of a successful suicide, and then attempted suicide followed by denial. Aspects of personality can change throughout life, and are influenced by both internal factors (genetics) and external factors (environment). Other aspects, such as temperament, or stable individual differences in emotional reactivity, remain the same. Personality theories have many differences, however, one aspect of personality that many theorists agree upon is that genetic factors influence their child s personality. Specifically, how they are influences and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 6. Sceptics Challenge Assess the Contextualist s response to the sceptic s challenge. The sceptics challenge revolves around whether we can have knowledge of the external world. The sceptic gives three scenarios where you are deceived; your senses are occasionally deceived for example for objects far in the distance size, dreams can be so realistic that you take them to be fact, and you could be deceived by a evil demon controlling your senses (adapted recently to the brain in a vat argument) and these are phenomenally indistinguishable from real life. The Contextualist responds to the sceptics challenge by saying we can both know a lot (Lewis, 1996) and know next to nothing (Lewis, 1996). The Contextualist justifies this by saying that we have two forms of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This is due to knowledge being context dependent. A example of this is I know Peter is strong in an everyday context, however if you put him in a weightlifting competition Peter will no longer be considered strong as this is now relative to weightlifters. This therefore allows us to say we have knowledge of everyday things such as having two hands without considering the sceptics challenge due to knowledge being context dependent. I believe that this is a good method of dealing with the sceptics challenge as you don t have to engage with the sceptic to have everyday knowledge. To say Y knows X, X s evidence eliminates every possibility that not X. The differentiation comes through what you consider every possibility in a low form this is every reasonable possibility, and in a high context its every single possibility. This therefore alters the domain of what you have to reject as in a high context the domain is much larger than in a low context. I believe that this is a strength as you can interpret every situation in two different contexts, this conserves the power of knowledge in a high context and also allows us to discuss knowledge in a everyday context. This therefore refutes global (Cartesian) scepticism as it allows you to have some form of knowledge. However this can also be considered an issue as the rule of attention shows that it is very easy to lose knowledge by shifting from a low to a high context, as soon as you add a possibility you cannot ignore it and therefore you lose knowledge as soon as your attention is drawn to a sceptical scenario. This is a weakness as you could argue that children have more knowledge than philosophers, as they haven t been drawn to the attention of the sceptical scenario even though they only have low knowledge. This method is particularly useful in solving the sceptics ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

He stated Once we start sending some people for leadership training, we will start getting numerous requests for expensive training that we simply can t afford. Regardless, if we spend our money on leadership development, we will not have enough to spend on recruitment. This appeared to be ambiguous because he stated that the company had a growth rate of 12.5 percent without the program. So I don t understand why they would not continue to grow at that time. They would have more qualified executives to help the company to profit in the upper level executive management. Then he stated There are plenty of people who are already leaders; we do not need to train those who are not. This shows me that the company could possibly use the program. After analyzing several articles regarding wrongful conviction cases in the Unites States, it is apparent that wrongful conviction cases occur more often than society believed. It has come to surface in recent years that wrongful convictions are a big problem with our criminal justice system. Researchers have discovered the causes of wrongful convictions to be bad lawyering, government misconduct, informants, false confessions, flawed forensic science and eyewitness error. Furthermore, this paper explores the affects victims face due to a wrongful conviction. As society has begun to steadily realize that miscarriage of justice is a possibility, researchers have considered reforms to the criminal justice system. • 11. The American Culture And Values Critiquing American Culture and Values: (The Social) Network The emergence of novel forms of communication in American history tends to produce two contrasting reactions: general acceptance from society and moral outrage from a limited, vocal portion of the public. As a medium, film was met in such a fashion with the creation of the Production Code Administration in 1934, designed by Catholic leaders to uphold their conception of American values. At the same time, the example of Middletown depicted a rural community incorporating the experience of film into their regular lives, treating it as entertainment alongside shows at the opera house. Decades later, we see film utilized to criticize the social impact of emerging communicative methods, including television and social media in the form of Network (1976) and The Social Network (2010). A method of universal programing, by which centralized, censored content is broadcast in synchronous to an audience discriminant only by which of the four major networks they choose to view is the portrayal of television afforded by the characters aimed to garner the most sympathy in Network. • 12. The Right Of Free Speech And Freedom Of Press The right many Americans take for granted every day is the ability to speak to one another and to express their opinions through verbal and non verbal means of communication. The First Amendment provides the right of free speech and freedom of press to the people. The Bill of Rights, also known as the first 10 amendments to the Constitution went into effect on Dec. 15, 1791, when the state of Virginia ratified it, giving the bill the majority of ratifying states required to protect citizens from the power of the federal government. One must ask, why would such a right need to be thought about for so long before enacting it for the people? Why has this never been considered to be a universal right that every man and woman should have across the world? Historically, in the development of Western Civilization and prior to the colonization of the Eastern states by the British Monarchy, the British colonies were not even states yet, let alone united. Neighboring countries Canada and Mexico were variously governed by the French Canadians, where the French influence can be felt to this day, in places from Quebec to Montreal, by the Spaniards in California, and the British in what is now British Columbia. Parts of California and Texas were also under Spanish and Mexican occupation. What England, France, and Spain had in common were monarchies as governments, with the King or Queen conflated with the Church as ordained by God. The common people were peasants in a feudal ... Essay on Family Trust in William Shakespeare s Plays Family Trust in William Shakespeare s Plays Family is meant to care for each other, love each other unconditionally, and support each other. Of course, as any holiday at home can prove, complete support is not always possible. Sometimes family members hurt each other and even, in worst case scenarios, kill each other over issues as important as protecting another or as petty as fighting over a boy. In Shakespeare s Othello, Macbeth, Hamlet, Romeo and Juliet, King Lear, and The Winter s Tale, if family members operate with selfish motives, they hurt the hero and contribute to his fall; but if the family supports each other with only love, the hero can redeem himself from his fall and even succeed in finding lasting happiness. ... She obviously feels remorse when she sleepwalks, trying to wash away the imaginary blood because she says, Hell is murky (5.1.31), showing her fear of what fate she will meet after she dies. If her motives were only fused with love and support for her husband, she would not have felt the compulsion to better her hierarchal standing in society and would have been content to live as a noblewoman. Analysis of Moral Luck Views of Aristotle and Epictetus Essay Analysis of Moral Luck Views of Aristotle and Epictetus Aristotle, the founder of western science, and Epictetus, one of the greatest stoicists, both has their theories for the issue of Moral Luck . To have a basic idea about the topic, I believe we should describe it from a non philosophical point of view. After doing that we can compare both Aristotle s and Epictetus points of views and distinguish between them with examples from Into Thin Air (ITA), written by Jon Krakauer. Moral Luck, if described from general perspective, consists of the actions that happen by luck and result in moral ends. Things that are not in our control are other people s actions, and things that are not up to us are those actions consequences. Moreover, things can be in our control one minute and not the next. In a car accident, steering the wheel might save you from the accident in a specific time. After that time, no matter how much you steer the wheel you can t escape the unavoidable truth. This, as a matter of fact, concerns the issue of chance. However, since chance is related to luck, we are concerned with this as well. Let s concentrate on each philosopher more deeply now. First let s take a look at some of the issues that Aristotle points out in his book Nicomachean Ethics. He states that moral luck is concerned with situations that are not in our control. Moreover, if someone is virtuous he cannot escape from moral luck. However, you have to be virtuous to get away from it. That is to say, only the virtuous man has the greatest chance of dealing with moral luck since he will not need it. He also states that everything has a function. Human beings for instance have the function of reasoning. To define function of something we first need to find its genus, and then search for particular uniqueness that differ it from the others in the same genus. Lastly, he ... Looking on the internet about the router model I own I could make an interesting discovery. I found an article written by an expert in computer security, Paul Moore, dating back to March 2014(Paul Moore,2014). This guy, a year ago, had found a flaw inside the super hub of VirginMedia. Indeed reboot the router took 1 minute to start well, and in this minute for seven seconds was able to access the WiFi network without the need for key. Now the problem is resolved, however is an interesting issue happened, because sometimes, our security depends not only on us and what we can do to protect it and keep it. Sometimes there may be larger obstacles, as in this case an error of firmware that we can circumvent but not eliminate (until the company responsible is not able to patch it). Only a few of the immigrants that are brave enough to take the trip actually stay in the U.S. Their jobs were often dangerous and dirty, they worked long hours, and didn t get paid much. • 22. Essay about Moliere s Tartuffe The Pen Is Mightier Than The Sword The most forceful lines of a serious moral statement are usually less powerful than those of satire, and nothing will reform most men better than the depiction of their faults (Moliere s preface to Tartuffe). Jean Baptiste Poquelin Moliere s play Tartuffe caused much controversy on its release upon the reigning king of France at that time. This comedy of greed, lust, deceit, hypocrisy, devotion, ardor, and truth had to be rewritten three times before the clergy approved it for public viewing. It especially angered a group called The Brotherhood, which was dedicated to the preservation of very strict religious observances. Moliere was merely finding a way to express his thoughts about several attitudes ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... A classic example of this was when she clearly tells the rest of her son s family that Tartuffe practices precisely what he preaches and is a fine man. She goes on to say that she will not hear Tartuffe be mocked by fools such as the family members whose company she is in. These examples relate to Moliere s time, because the Clergy at that time were using the veil of religion to cover up intentions, which were not religion at all, abusing the power that they were given. Absolute power corrupts absolutely. In Moliere s Tartuffe, the abuse of power was a theme that was very prevalent in the play, as well as in, Moliere s society at that time as well. One of the main aspects that this play focuses on is Orgon s desire to preserve control in his family. As the patron to his family, he feels powerful and benevolent. One of the ways he further extends this responsibility he feels he has, he supports Tartuffe as well, financially, emotionally, by any means possible. Ordon thinks in helping Tartuffe, he is helping himself, but ironically, it will only hurt him in the end. Another problem in Moliere s time was that of hiding behind absolute power as a shield. The father of the family, in Tartuffe, had absolute power over his daughter s choice of marriage partner. The minute he feels insecure, after his family scolds him about Tartuffe, he arranges his daughter to be married to him, just because he has the power to do that. That was the problem ... The spiral of silence theory by Elisabeth Noelle Neumann explains why certain people fall under the pressure and seclude to silence. Silence may not always be a bad thing, but according to a study by Lucy J. MacGregor, the fact is that silence during a speech or conversation is absolutely bad. With this, silence while talking to a large group negatively affects the listeners in a way in which some words in the speech will not be remembered. The point is that silence tends to destroy people s speeches. Words are forgotten in the speech; Loss of the attention by the listeners happens and the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In every high school, there are the jocks, the band, the nerds, the people on drugs, the religious and so on and so forth. Some of these groups were known as the popular group and some were known as the creeps. These names that are given to the groups still happen in everyday life when you are older and this also affects whether or not the person will speak up about a certain topic. When certain groups have to keep secrets from other groups for safety reasons, this does not help the silence situation at all. The fact that groups are keeping secrets from others means that they do not trust anyone else which forces groups into silence and they cannot voice their opinion anymore. The Spiral of Silence has a key voice in the workplace, which involves the use of presentations. One thing affected by the listener not wanting to support the speaker is the fact of whether or not the listener is actually paying attention (Denham Vaughan 7). It has been said that listeners are more than likely to lose their attention when there is a break in the speech by the speaker. When this happens, the listener is more than likely going to jumble up sentences together and guess the wrong word to finish the current statement that the speaker broke the pause with. This happens because the train of thought is said to be interrupted and lose focus on the certain topic. Viewing the eyes and seeing the horizontal and vertical movement ... • 27. Advantages And Disadvantages Of Peer To Peer Lenders Peer to Peer lending is a unique method that links borrowers and lenders relatively quick and inexpensive without financial intermediaries. With technological advances in recent years including the boom of electronic money, transactions in peer to peer lending programs have become more and more commonly used around the globe. This type of financial service carries both advantages (peer to peer communities have a quick and easy online application process for both lenders and borrowers (Schneider 2008)) and disadvantages (potential exposure to more risk) for those lending their funds as well as people taking out these loans. Borrowers can experience unique advantages through peer to peer lending compared to other types of financial loan methods. For example, If a potential borrower bears a shaky financial history but a sympathetic story as to why they think they should qualify for a loan, a lender can still grant a loan and choose to undergo a higher rate of return, assuming there is greater risk to fund this loan (Schneider 2008). Financial institutions such as banks or credit unions that would normally turn away these people, borrowers have an increased opportunity with peer to peer lending (Schneider 2008). Additionally, a borrower gets a more favorable interest rate on their loan than one would otherwise have gotten from funding elsewhere say through a bank or a credit card company because they have a pool of potential lenders to choose from (Investopedia 2017). ... Notably, this statistic conveys the seriousness with which the issue needs to be addressed with because, ostensibly, most of the depression cases, which ultimately lead to suicide incidences among teens, are still going unrecognized. Moreover, as American Psychological Association asserts, the primary cause of suicidal distress include social, environmental, and psychological factors (par. 2). Additionally, the former also notes that suicide risk factors vary with certain aspects including age, ethnic group, stressful life events, family dynamics, and gender among other factors. In precision, it is admissible that despite the many aspects that are supposed to be the main cause of suicide cases among teens, failure to recognize and treat, or rather, address the causative agents of suicidal conditions could be the primary reason for the rampancy regarding the issue. • 42. Madama Butterfly Analysis Italian opera of the 19th century was deeply rooted in national life. Italy was unified under Victor Emmanuel II in 1859 61, and verismo was the popular form of composing operas at this time. Verismo, or realism, is a phase of naturalism in literature and music characterized by projection on stage of fierce passions, violence, and death. Operas of the verismo style paint a picture of everyday people that were mainly from the middle class, doing extraordinary things. An example of this is Puccini s Madama Butterfly, which is set in the contemporary world, and deals with an American sailor and his Japanese bride. The opera challenges the superficially exotic world of Japan that it inhabits, and ends with a geisha girl committing suicide on stage. In Madama Butterfly, Puccini blends the musical styles from Italy, Japan, and America to create an opera for all. While opera was and has been rooted in its own nationality, composers started to include the ideas of exoticism in their writing. At this time, Japan had closed themselves off from other lands for about 300 years. When they opened up, westerners were curious about the Japanese culture and vise versa. Rudolf Dittrich was a teacher of western music at the Tokyo School of Music, Puccini quotes Dittrich s music many times throughout Madama Butterfly in order to create a hybrid of Westernized Japanese style . Puccini uses this hybrid style instead of authentic Japanese melodies in order to accentuate the drama of Butterfly s ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This illustrates the combination of both rap and gospel type vocal. The chorus gives the song repetition that allows the audience to feel at ease and enjoy the upbeat music. Also, Wash s chorus is very high pitched and produces much tension within the listener; nonetheless, William s low key rap gives the resolution that they need. C+C Music Factory were a group comprised of extremely skilled members and it is not surprising that they produced a hit like that of Gonna Make You Sweat. As a group effort, they created a music with lyrics that gave rise to ecstatic emotions within the audience and with just the right musical style. • 44. Multiple Concussions Research Paper A concussion is a traumatic brain injury that disrupts the normal function of the brain. The injury may damage the brain cells and create chemical changes in the brain (CDC). They are usually not life threatening, but the effects can be serious (CDC), especially if a person receives multiple concussions. Something that makes a concussion dangerous or life threatening is that the person may not even know that they have one or they may just shake it off and not pay attention to it. It is very common in athletes, but also appears in other people who receive an impact to the brain. The brain is a fragile organ. It is cushioned by cerebrospinal fluid that acts as a shock absorber for minor impacts (Sports Concussion Institute). A concussion is caused by a bump, blow, or jolt to the head. Cultural And Regional Awareness Through All Units According to the Chief of Staff of the Army, GEN Ray Odierno our country s most recent set of conflicts have made it clear the Army needs to expand their levels of cultural and regional awareness through all units. (Odierno 2012) The Army has decided to answer this problem by creating a regionally aligning forces (RAF) strategy to focus units on a particular geographic region. Brigades, Divisions, Corps, and support forces will focus on a specific region within their normal training program and focus their unit s scope with cultural training and language familiarization. This redesign will theoretically provide increased support to the Combatant Commands and capitalize on the current Total Force concept to team up the Active, Guard and ... The slipping fault then creates seismic waves in the surrounding rock. Seismic waves create the sound waves in the air. It also carries energy away from the fault, first to nearby rock. In hours to follow or even days many small earthquakes occur. These are referred to as aftershocks. Aftershocks are a result of rocks near the fault adjusting to accommodate the new stress levels. In order to understand the size of an earthquake certain items must be taken into consideration. Strength, classification of seismic waves, logarithm and intensity are some of the main areas to focus on. The strength depends upon the area of the fault length times width on which the slip occurs, the amount of the slip and the inherent stiffness of the nearby rock. An earthquake occurring a 100 km (62 mi) fault is about one billion times stronger than a quake on a 100 m (328 ft) fault. Seismic waves are classified in two areas P waves, which are your compressional waves, and S waves, which are shear waves. These waves are used in detection and location of earthquakes. Several thousand seismometers are in continuous operation worldwide. These stations record ground motions, detect waves even at great distances from the fault as well as measure arrival time of P and S waves. Logarithm of moment ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
