Death In Mary Oliver s Sleeping In The Forest
Mary Oliver s poem, Sleeping in the Forest, presents a peaceful and vivid representation of death and
its relationship with nature. As the poem begins, the reader is introduced to the earth welcoming the
speaker back into the realm of nature. Man was created from the dust of the earth and when we die,
our bodies return to the dust. However, this poem presents a more beautiful image of what death is
composed of. Death is often portrayed as being frightening and disturbing. When individuals are
presented with the thought of death, they often push this thought away out of fear and ignorance.
Everyone will die someday whether we ignore the thought of death or not. However, Oliver creates a
relaxing and welcoming image for the reader on what death (ideally) is. Obviously, since Oliver is still
alive, she doesn t know what death feels like. However, the way she describes death, I hope that it
feels like sleeping in a forest; full of stars and enchantment. The enchantment in this poem begins by
the earth welcoming the speaker back home. This speaker expresses that, She took me back so
tenderly. This statement exemplifies to the reader that death is not a scary process. In this case, the
earth is being portrayed as a woman. This is significant because women are often portrayed as being
nurturing and caring. For the reader, this can trigger memories or ideas of who the reader would
picture the earth as. Whether that be a mother, grandmother, aunt, sister, etc. the reader can

The International Criminal Court ( Icc )
Introduction: The international criminal court (ICC) is an unalike international organization, as it deals
with individuals of the state parties and non state parties both. The Court among its wide prospects
prosecutes individuals, accepts communications and complaints from them, and also allows for an
independent official to initiate prosecution. But, independent officials in international organizations
always have a controversial position given the fact that they have autonomy and authority to act
independently creating a probable threat to the national sovereignty of the member nations. In
addition, here the statute also had the proposal to keep the court under the purview of a political
institution (Security Council) which was also ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
So, after serious discussions, criticism, and alterations the proprio motu power in the end must
required a pre authorization from the Trial Chambers and was also subjected to a judicial review.
Therefore, the court since its existence from 2002 could only open investigation against seven
countries so far namely; the Democratic Republican of Congo (DRC), Uganda, the Central African
Republic (CAR), Sudan, Kenya, Libya, and Cote d Ivoire. Even when in the initial 4 years of the
court, it was cluttered with 1,732 communications from 132 countries related to situations in 139
countries. The DRC was the first country against which the prosecutor used his proprio motu powers
to initiate an investigation, although DRC then referred itself to the court. Seven years later, the
prosecutor actually used his powers against Kenya to finally be able to initiate an investigation and put
to use the trigger mechanism. The seeds of 2007 were seeped deep back during the general elections
of 2002 in Kenya, where the National Rainbow Coalition (NaRC) led by Mwai Kibaki of Party of
National Unity (PNU) promised the homeless and unemployed a chance of being heard and also
guaranteed a police reform if they would have been brought

Eternal Sunshine Of The Spotless Mind By Michel Gondry Essay
A hollow feeling inside of your chest consumes your body. The room is filled with your sobs and
hiccuped breaths. A million thoughts are racing through your head; none of these are positive. You tell
yourself that you wish you never met them. You plea at the universe to take away all the memories of
them. You beg to never again feel this type of agony. If possible, would you eradicate the memory of
another human?
In the movie Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Joel Barish (Jim Carrey) and Clementine
Kruczynski (Kate Winslet) do exactly this. Directed by Michel Gondry, this American romantic
comedy wonderfully expresses the idea that a person s memories are fundamental in human growth.
Through cinematography, lighting, and character development, Gondry successfully directs one of the
best twenty first century films.
The cinematography of Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind effectively develops the film s plot and
characters. In the beginning of the movie, Joel is shown awaking in a close up. This shot easily shows
the gloomy expression on his face, asking the audience to question why he is upset. Hand held
cameras provide the story with a natural, more realistic feel, inviting the audience into Joel s
memories. The hand held cameras provide the film with an imperfect, human perspective. This can be
viewed primarily in the honeymoon on ice scene. Slight shakes of the camera are evident. In the scene
when Joel and Clementine see each other on the train to Montauk, far

Literary Analysis Of The Cat In The Hat
The Cat In The Hat: A Story of Chaos and Order
The Cat In The Hat by Dr. Seuss, pseudonym of Theodor Seuss Geisel, tells a story of two children at
home on a rainy day alone, being visited by the Cat in the Hat and the turmoil that he causes. The Cat
In The Hat is clearly Geisel s most famous book, written in 1956 and published in 1957, considered a
children s classic today. It was The Cat In The Hat where Dr. Seuss jubilantly breaks the barriers of
the basal reader s simplistic language and pedestrian artwork (MacDonald 10). In The Cat In The Hat,
Geisel uses this childish language and comical pictures as well as an interesting story and fun
characters to not only create a successful children s book but to deliver a subtle political message of
rebellion against authority.
The simplicity of the vocabulary and the sentence structure in The Cat In The Hat makes it easy for
almost anyone to read and enjoy. In fact, many children learn to read today studying Dr. Seuss books.
Virginia M. Reid, author of the article by the National Council of Teachers of English titled Weaning
Books, refers to The Cat In The Hat as a baby food type of book for young children (8). It is these
books that can get children excited about reading. Geisel uses repetition, poetic meter and rhyme to
make the story flow, encouraging the reader to read it out loud. For example when the Cat In The Hat
appears at the beginning of the story, he says I know it is wet, And the sun is not sunny. But we can
have Lots of good fun that is funny! (Seuss 7). The words are simple and lively, immediately getting
your attention. The use of the exclamation mark at the end of the sentence also cannot be a mistake.
Geisel uses punctuation throughout the book for emphasis and amusement. The Cat in the Hat asks the
children, Why do you sit there like that? almost mimicking what the reader is thinking (Seuss 6).
Geisel has even gone so far to create a rhythm as one reads the story like poetry. It is this simple
language that gives The Cat In The Hat its pleasure to the reader that runs parallel but separate to its
entertaining illustrations.
The pictures of The Cat In The Hat are very similar to its language, repetitive and

Management Focusing on Acute Pain: A Multidisciplinary Concept Analysis
The concept of managing acute pain is extremely significant to nursing as pain is one of the most
common problems for which patients seek out health care resources. Pain is a complex and abstract
concept that encompasses sensory, emotional, psychological, social, and spiritual perceptions of pain
that may occur in combination with physical pain. Pain is difficult to describe and often hard to
measure; although, most healthcare providers agree that pain is subjective and is to be measured
qualitatively and quantitatively as the patient perceives its intensity. Pain can affect the quality of life
of the individual by impacting them physically, emotionally, and ... Show more content on

Pain is described as a process instead of a sensation. Pain can be influenced by decreasing sensory
inputs, and changing behavioral cognitive factors. It was no longer necessary to differentiate between
organic and psychogenic pain. GCT is to be utilized as a multidisciplinary approach in pain
management along with CBT and pharmacological interventions. Defining pain from a psychological
perspective, it can be agreed that pain involves a physiological stimulus. The presence of a
physiological stimulus cannot determine the pain behavior. The impact of an individual s mood,
cognition, culture, social, and environmental influences need to be considered to view the totality of
the individual and pain management as a complete concept.
Medical Discipline
Upp, Kent, and Tighe (2013) in their review of the evolution of acute pain management (APM)
recognized that pain is no longer treated as a symptom but as a disease process. APM by
anesthesiologists broadened from the perioperative period to include interventional and
pharmaceutical treatment of non surgical pain in collaboration with chronic pain clinicians. In APM
the totality of the patient is treated through a multi modal and multidisciplinary approach.

Leadership In The Last American Man
Following Footsteps: Leadership in The Last American Man
Parents set the perfect example of leadership while raising their own children, making their kids the
priorities of their lives by being able to protect and love them through any given situation. In addition,
many parents strive to make their children like themselves because nothing would be better than a
parent seeing another human being walking in their own footsteps. However, some parents push their
children to become exactly like them, making their own dreams come true through their child. This
makes it hard for the child to grow up and become an independent person because they are too busy
living the lives that their parents are making them live. In The Last American Man, Eustace ... Show

Eustace does not realize that what causes people to leave Turtle Island isn t the physical labor but the
psychological stress of losing their identity (216). Eustace is independent when he ignores the
expectations of his father because it is not very individualistic to become an exact copy of anyone
else. However later in Eustace s life, he expects other people to become just like him by making them
do what he wants all of the time, taking away their own individuality. This is both oppressing and
humiliating to Eustace s followers because they will have to become a different people order to make
Eustace aware of their own existence. This form of leadership is a definite result of his instinct to copy
the actions of his father. Eustace continues to act like his father because he wants to copy the control
his father had over him. During Eustace s horse trips across the nation with his brother and his
girlfriend, Eustace couldn t put his their needs first When the stake of each of these journeys was so
massive nothing less than the prize of getting his father s attention at last (183). This form of
leadership not so much as self centered as it is honoring his own father. However, Eustace needs to
know that although he thinks he needs to match his father s level of leadership, it doesn t mean that he
should treat other people the same way that his father treated him. This is why Eustace has problems
with relationships throughout his entire lifetime; he is too concentrated on copying his father s
behavior than on building new relationships with different

America to go through another frontier. Where the nineteenth century people were expected to go an

said that twentieth century people should progress in many different ways. First off, the JFK
administration was striving so that all people in the nation had the same opportunities for jobs and
education without state sanctioned discrimination. Kennedy was very vocal on his beliefs on how

Juno and the Paycock
Juno and the Paycock by Sean O Casey is set amidst the height of the Irish Civil War. Throughout the
play, we can see the titular character s, Juno Boyle and Jack Boyle, relationship deteriorate , and how
dramatic events in their lives and the lives of their children, Johnny and Mary, cause the entire family
to collapse. The play is set closely following the signing of the treaty dividing Ireland into sections
and features the resulting conflict between the diehards who want a united, free Ireland, and the free
staters, who support the treaty, with this conflict representing the clash of fanatical nationalism and
practicality, of idealism and a recognition that what the people truly wanted was peace. The play also

windfall of the will causes Juno to treat Boyle less as a child who must be nagged and scolded to
perform any useful, or at least less detrimental, role in the family she holds so dear, and more as the
head of his family, a role she previously fulfilled. This change in attitude is regarded by Boyle as him
merely him finally getting the respect he believes he deserves.
I m masther now, an I m goin to remain masther This period of happiness is quickly dispelled when it
is revealed that Boyle has deceived the family, allowing them to continue to spend money that he
knows they do not have and are never going to get. This demonstrates to us his inability to accept any
form of responsibility and signals the end of the period of good luck for the Boyles and the
culmination of the intertwining storylines of the play. In the third act the affection that marks Boyle
and Juno s relationship I the second act is dispelled entirely, only to be replaced by bitter conflict and
the eventual dissolution of their entire family. Throughout the play, Juno s main purpose is to support
and hold together her family but in this final act all her efforts are worthless as the actions and

In the novel The Bluest Eye by Toni Morrison, the psychological faults of Pecola become evident
through her experiences and even more through her opposite in their actions and opinions, Claudia. In
the novel, readers become aware of various injustices occurring to both characters and an insight to
how the two deal with them. Pecola and Claudia both live in a society where innocence is not well
maintained among children. Their development is dependent on their own abilities to handle cruelties
and unfair circumstances. Claudia s intolerance for inhumane actions is exceedingly high and she

I Am Born On The World
Introduction:
Steveland (Stevie) Hardaway Judkins was born on the 13th of May, 1950 in Saginaw Michigan (Bio,
2015). Due to being born six weeks premature, Stevie was placed in an incubator to help maintain his
breathing (Bio, 2015
Stevie Wonder, 2011). The forced oxygen caused the retinas in the back of his eyes to become
unattached, leaving Stevie permanently blind (Bio, 2015). This happened due to the growth of blood
vessels in the back of the eyes not fully developing correctly (Wikipedia, 2015).
Even though Stevie was left with no vision he began playing the harmonica at age 4, learnt to play
piano at age 6 and took up drum lessons when he was 8 years old (Bio, 2011). In 1961, Stevie had the
opportunity to sing to Ronnie White ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Apart from being involved in many helpful campaigns and events, Stevie s music and lyrics inspired
musicians everywhere. Jackson 5, Prince, Lionel Richie and D Angelo all believed that Stevie Wonder
had a massive impact on music and song writing (Shmoop, 2015). Musicians such as the Miracles,
Ray Charles and Johnny Ace all influenced Stevie to pursue a career in the music industry (Shmoop,
2015). Even though he is blind, he has not let that stop him from doing what he wants to do. Stevie
once said Just because a man lacks the use of his eyes doesn t mean he lacks vision (Brainy Quote,
2015).
Development:
The Tamla label offered Stevie a five year contract but made it clear that all his money would be kept
in a trust fund until he was at least 21 years old (Wikipedia, 2015). In 1962, Stevie released his first
album The Jazz Soul of Little Stevie . He then released his first recorded album, Tribute to Uncle Ray
in October, the same year (Wikipedia, 2015). When Stevie was just 12 years old he toured America
through the chitlin circuit theatres (Wikipedia, 2015). In May 1963, his performance at the Regal
Theatre in Chicago was recorded and formed into a live album, The 12 Year Old Genius (Wikipedia,

Why Do Homo Sapiens Survive
Surviving with Adaptability
There are roughly two hundred species on earth going extinct every day, with thousands more entering
the area of endangerment (Donovan). Nevertheless, humans have been living on this planet for nearly
100,000 years now (FAQ). With over 7.4 billion living in the world today, it is hard to say that Homo
sapiens haven t been a successful species (Current). Clearly, some trait we possess has allowed us to
maintain our presence at the top of the food chain and survive the tests of time. The mandatory ability
to adapt and the willingness to change are key characteristics for someone to survive and thrive
through the generations of time. We learn from our past and history has proved to us that the world is

New things become popular while others die out. Modern day technology has become one of the
largest industries in the 21st century and as H. Sapiens continue to invent new gadgets and equipment
to assist in everyday life, we are ultimately adapting by making things easier. The use of cars and
automobiles has allowed us to transport items significantly faster than we were previously able to.
Very similar to that, the use of electricity has enabled a multitude of items with a single common
result; making our lives simpler. It is hard to imagine life without these two technological advances.
Neanderthals proved that a life like this was capable, but much more difficult as their techniques
required more manual labor. Generally speaking, these improvements were provoked by our ability to
adapt and our openness to change. The evolution of the human, and more specifically the mental
aspect of them, has enabled us to thrive in this world. The human race has predicated itself as being
the alpha male in the animal kingdom and we have accomplished this feat by modifying our lives and
environments to fit the circumstances placed before us. In order to remain at the top of the chart and
survive through time, humans must continue to possess the trait of adaptability. Homo sapiens have
inhabited Earth for one hundred thousand years now. Hopefully people will continue to adapt and
remain on Earth for another hundred thousand

The Conflict Between North And South Korea During The...
On August 4th, 2015, two South Korean soldiers were injured by a North Korean landmine, prompting
the South for the first time in eleven years to resume anti North propaganda broadcast via
loudspeakers across the border. These conflicts provoked cross border fire and heated rhetoric,
however China and the United States are usually at the ready to ease friction between the North and
South. For the past 60 years the flames of the North and South Korean conflict have kept burning ever
since the spark of the Korean War. Although a majority of the fire has been extinguished with the 1953
armistice ending the Korean War, the flames of the Korean conflict still live, causing occasional burns
and damage between nations. The political influences of the United States significantly affected the
conflict between North and South Korea during the Korean War and have continued to affect this
conflict for the past 60 years by means of military involvement, oppression of communism, and
conflicting interests with other nations. The United States military involvement significantly affected
the conflict between North and South Korea during the Korean War and is still affecting this conflict
today by means of overall war efforts and nuclear weapons. During the events leading towards the
Korean War, the United States had one of the strongest armed forces. The most positive and
significant result of the United States military involvement was the signing of the 1953 armistice that

Overt And Covert Facial Recognition Essay
Facial recognition involves the identification of individuals through the use of their facial features and,
or expressions (MS, 2017). The model of facial recognition seeks to discover exactly how the brain is
able to recognize facial features both consciously and unconsciously (Schweinberger Burton, 2003).
The following set of experiments seeks to study overt and covert facial recognition (Schweinberger
Burton, 2003). Covert facial recognition is the unconscious recognition of familiar faces (Maureen,
2016). Whereas, overt facial recognition involves conscious facial recognition (Maureen, 2016). There
are many considerable methods used by researchers to examine the process of covert and, or overt

Each study discussed above examines the model of facial recognition and its relation to overt and
covert recognition. Covert facial recognition is the unconscious recognition of familiar faces
(Maureen, 2016). Whereas, overt facial recognition is the conscious recognition (Maureen, 2016).
There has been a vast amount of research on the topic in an attempt to discover exactly how the
recognition of facial features/expressions take place in the brain and how it can be linked to certain
neurological disorders. Overall, results from each study examined tend to suggest that overt and covert
facial recognition share the same area of the brain. Research by Farah and colleagues did not support
this idea however, they do not deny it either. Rather, they suggest the possibility of separate forms of
prosopagnosia, one causing damage to both overt and covert facial recognition while the other(s)
cause damage to only one of the functions. This study, however, is also much older than the others
examined which could be a result of lack of information that overtime was learned by others. The
majority of research suggests that damage to overt facial recognition will in time result in damage to
covert facial recognition. Thus meaning if one is damaged it is only a matter of time before the other
starts to suffer. However, with it not being the case one hundred percent of the time it would not be
fair to assume that and ignore opposing research. There are many different ideas and findings on the
subject and hopefully with time researchers will be able to learn whether or not the damage of one
area guarantees the damage of the

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Natural Fibers
Natural fibers represent environmentally friendly alternatives to conventional reinforcing fibers (glass,
carbon, kevlar). Because of their hollow and cellular nature, natural fibers perform as acoustic and
thermal insulators and exhibit reduced bulk density [33, 34]. Some of the disadvantages and
limitations of natural fibers, when used as reinforcement for composites, are related to the lack of
proper interfacial adhesion, poor resistance to moisture absorption, limited processing temperature to
about 200Β°C, and low dimensional stability (shrinkage, swelling). Researches are being done to
improve these properties and are implemented continuously [35, 36]. The fiber surface heterogeneities
such as surface defects, impurities, surface flaws, etc. affect the mechanical properties of the
composites remarkably. Modification of fiber surface is generally used in order to reduce the surface
defects, improve the adhesion between the fiber and the matrix, and hence the mechanical properties
of the composites [37].
The disadvantages of natural fibers can be handled by modifications of the fiber but may make
composites expensive. Apart from the use of these fiber composites in outdoor applications, these can

deeper into the text and find an array of assorted conflicts in the realm on human vs. human, human
vs. nature, human vs. society, and society vs. society. For the purposes of this paper I shall focus on
the labyrinth of human vs. human and human vs. society in the framework of the role of women in
Igbo society and how men assign and dictate these roles. I will also briefly explain the importance ...

A clear instance of this is the case of Okonkwo s mother. While the presence of his father, although
negative, is prevalent in much of the novel, the presence of his mother is all but nonexistent. To my
knowledge, his (unnamed) mother shows up only once in the text, three days after his participation in
the ritual murder of Ikemefuna, his adopted son (Jeyifo 3).
For the first time in three nights, Okonkwo slept. He woke up once in the middle of the night and his
mind went back to the past three days without making him feel uneasy. He began to wonder why he
felt uneasy at all. It was like a man wondering in broad daylight why a dream had appeared so terrible
to him at night. He stretched himself and scratched his thigh where a mosquito had bitten him as he
slept. Another one was wailing near his right ear. He slapped the ear and hoped he had killed it. Why
do they always go for one s ears? When he was a child his mother had told him a story about it.
But it was as silly as all women s stories. Mosquito, she had said, had asked Ear to marry him,
whereupon she fell on the floor in uncontrollable laughter. How much longer do you think you will
live?, she asked. You are already a skeleton. Mosquito went away humiliated, and anytime he passed
her way he told Ear that he was still alive (Achebe 53).
This could have been a critical turning point in the text pre shadowed by what we were told earlier in

Free Euthanasia Essay
The word quot;euthanasia quot; is Greek, which means quot;a good death. quot; The issue is far more
complex than what a dictionary s explanation is. The issue of euthanasia is one of the most discussed
topics in all of the United States Congress. US government agencies, legislators and leaders have
attempted unsuccessfully to stop assisted suicide nationwide by barring the use of federally controlled
substances at lethal levels intended for mercy killing. There are many issues surrounding the act of
assisted suicide that are yet to be resolved in the United States. In the near future Congress should
have a set law on this topic and that will end the confusion circulating around euthanasia.

After a couple of months or years, then that is the time when the person can decide wither to end their
life. Assisted suicide should be the very last resort. If someone wants to end their life by means of a
doctor then they should be allowed to do it.
US pathologist Dr. Jack Kevorkian, who by his own admission has assisted 130 people with their own
suicides, has been the target of considerable media and government attention. Kevorkian is the leading
quot;right to die doctor in the US because of his work providing lethal medication to patients so that
they may commit or pursue their own suicides. But the release of a videotape by Kevorkian in
January, 1999, showing the physician injecting lethal medication into a patient in Michigan has
changed the nature of the controversy from the right to die to medically assisted euthanasia.
Kevorkian is charged with murder and faces trial next spring. Dr. Kevorkian is the first known US
physician to carry out an act of mercy killing.
In conclusion, I think that it is legal for someone to end their life only if they have a certain condition
that is un curable or if the person is suffering tremendously. A doctor who specializes in this area
should be the only one to perform the practice. It should be illegal for non professionals who carry out
this act in their homes. For minors under eighteen years of age, the parents are the only one who can

Strength And Strength Of Leadership
Throughout centuries, strength in leadership was associated with leadership roles in men. Today, it is
seen as a trait in both sexes. Before discussing strength in leadership as a trait in women, strength in
leadership must be defined. Strength in leadership differs from brute strength and ability to lift heavy
weights. This form of strength in leadership differs from strict authoritarian strength in power
associated with wealth and might in traditional leadership.
Strength in leadership is found in the form of inner strength. Inner strength is the ability to use
endurance gained from previous suffering and apply it them to a situation (Lewis 2004). Individuals
with inner strength can monitor their actions and emotions. Inner strength allows a leader to overcome
difficulties and encourage others to do so as well. Also, inner strength allows a leader to take control
making the terms strength in leadership and inner strength interchangeable.
Leaders acquire inner strength is a learned trait. Mostly inner strength comes from experience of
difficulties. The ability for a leader to pull themselves up from failure is also part of the process of
learning inner strength. Problems are solved using inner strength. Within these solutions to problems,
the core values of a leader are developed. The core values shape a person s inner strength and her or
his ability to continue.
While strength in leadership is associated with masculinity, women labeled weak and unable to lead.

American Culture Of People From Japan And Arab Countries
Final Essay
In the United States many different nationalities and culture have come to reside by immigrating to
this country. Although in the past being an immigrant in this country was often faced with hardship
and discrimination the dream of a better and more promising future in America has always enticed
people from places far and wide. Such has been the case with people from Japan and Arab countries.
The differences in policies and treatment in the US varied, but their reasoning behind why their
migrated is almost always for a more prosperous life. This paper aims to make a comparison at the
two groups by providing information on why they migrated and examples of interaction between the
two. It will further examine past and present policies and its effects on unsuccessful and successful
adaptations to American culture of people. And I will finally formulate my personal prediction for
each group s future in the United States.
The first Japanese to migrate to the United States in significant numbers did so following changes to
the 1868 Meiji Restoration (Lee, L. P. 1989). They had to endure much hostility since their beginning
in the US; many attributed this mentality with competitive reasons for wanting to get rid of the
Japanese Americans who grew vegetables at low cost and own millions worth of California land.

Essay On Corinthians 14
In Corinthians 14 we read about aspects of the gifts of the spirit from speaking in tongues, prophecy,
worship, and what the women s position is in the church. This was written to the church of Corinth.
The situation of the Corinth church was they were a new and upcoming church in the town of Corinth.
Paul was the writer and he was writing the church of Corinth back to clarify certain points from his
pervious letter, correct certain things the church had misunderstood, and reply to a previous letter that
Paul had given the church (Berding, 2004). Berding also states that it is possible that a man named
Sosthenes was with Paul when this letter was written.
The spiritual receptivity of the Corinth church would be at a high level of acceptance. I believe this
because they are the ones who wrote Paul the letter on questions and as a growing church I feel they
want to please God. Paul is giving correction and clarifying things that the church has misunderstood
or has begun to misuse such as the spiritual gifts, Speaking in tongues and prophecy in this letter.
Also, another point that I feel is a reason the church would listen is because they are living in a sophist

Jetblue Is A Low Cost, High Service Airline
JetBlue operates as a low cost, high service airline. JetBlue (JBLU) revenues have increased by at
least 5% every year for the past decade. This continual growth in revenues coupled with a growth in
net income has allowed JBLU stock price to grow rapidly in the last three years. JBLU s operating
margin stands at 7.9%, the highest in the US airline industry. JBLU began offering its Even More
spacious seating arrangements on all flights and MINT service on particular flights in 2014. Revenues
from these services have caused JetBlue to have its highest ever net income in 2014. JBLU stock has
outperformed both the industry average and the S P 500 in the last year with a shocking 185% growth
rate YTD. Legacy airline carriers lag far behind this growth rate in revenue and stock price. JetBlue
has added value through its high profit margins and stellar financial performance in the past decade.
JBLU currently trades around $26 a share. Its market cap stands at $8.2 billion, making it the fifth
largest airline in the US. JBLU has experienced positive growth for the past three years. JBLU also
faces some difficulties because of its rapid growth rate. JBLU holds a P/S ratio of 1.9 against the
industry average of .8. A high P/S suggests the stock may be overvalued. JBLU generated $912

Dairy Cows Rumination Time
Rumination is influenced by various external and internal factors such as acute stress, disease, diet
composition, fodder quality, cow grouping, climatic conditions, reproduction status and other health
statuses (Calamari, et al., 2014). Studies conducted by Soriani, Panella, Calamari (2013), uncovered
differences in the rumination times of healthy and sick cows. It was identified that lower ruminations
times show signs of heath disorders. Identifying such patterns in dairy cows will enable an early
detection of diseases and in some cases will save the cow/s from death. Rumination Time data can be
also used to assess relationships to the incidence of clinical symptoms of diseases and metabolic
inflammatory indices in the blood (Soriani, Panella, Calamari, 2013). As Calving season approaches,
cows display a change in the behavioral patterns and also change in rumination patters. Conditions
associated with calving kill 31% of the dairy cattle worldwide (Menzies , Bryson, McCallion ... Show

They result in an increase in veterinary costs, culling rates and indirectly result in production and

the calving period, is related to various health conditions, inflammation blood markers and diseases
commonly found during the first lactation month (Calamari, et al., 2014). Rumination time is also a
very accurate parameter for an early identification of metabolic disorders such as ruminal acidosis,
which is caused by feeding cows with high level of fast digesting carbohydrates such as Barley. The
disease is a deadly disease and often results in the death of the animal (Reith Hoy,

Female Infanticide and Foeticide Essay
Female Infanticide and Foeticide
It is regrettable that female infanticide and foeticide are rapidly decreasing the female population
throughout India. The main factors that is responsible for the increase in the incidence of female
infanticide and foeticide is the low status of women, son preference, and the practice of dowry across
all casts groups.
The low status of women and girls is due to cultural beliefs and the material cost they represent to
their families. Vanaja Dhruvarajan says that there is a belief regarding the nature of men and women:
Men are ritually pure, physically strong, and emotionally mature; women, on the other hand, are
ritually pollutable, physically weak, and lack strong willpower (30). Because of these ... Show more

Overall, girls get poorer education than boys, and become less aware of the world around them.
Therefore, they become dependent on men, whether it is the father, the husband or the son.
The preference for male children is due to three major reasons. One is the economic value of having
sons. Sons are more likely than daughters to provide family labour on the farm or in a family business,
earn wages, and support their parents during old age. Upon marriage, a son brings a daughter in law
into his family, and she provides additional help around the house as well as she brings riches in the
form of dowry payments. Another important advantage of having sons is their social cultural utility. In
India patriarchal family system, having one son is essential for the continuation of the family line, and
many sons provide high status to the family. Vanaja Dhruvarajan says, When a women becomes a
mother, especially the mother of a son, her status goes up in her new home for having helped
perpetuate the family (87) Finally, the utility of having sons comes from the important religious
functions that only sons can provide. In Hindu tradition, sons are needed to do the funeral of their
deceased parents and to help in the salvation of their souls.
Daughters are considered to be an economic problem to her parents mainly because of the heavy
dowry payment demanded by the groom s family, as well as the high cost of the wedding,

The Woman In The Snow Short Story
No matter who we are, no matter how successful, no matter what our situation, compassion is
something we need to receive and give, author Catherine Pulsifer said. Patricia McKissack wanted to
show this theme in her short story, The Woman in the Snow by using her character, a black mother
named Eula Mae Daniels. In the beginning of the story, a racist bus driver spots her struggling through
the snow, holding her sick baby and begging him to give her a ride, even offering him her wedding
ring. He refuses and drives off without her because she does not have money to pay for the ride. As
the story progresses, she is found dead the next morning and begins to haunt the route, killing the bus
driver in a crash, continuing to haunt the route until all drivers refuse to take it. This theme begins to
develop when Ray Hammond, the first black metro driver, sees Eula Mae on the route and offers a
ride for free instead of denying her one, so she thanked him and gave him a smile before disappearing
into the swirling snow. Compassion is always important. The author was showing that when you show
compassion instead of hate to others, they will return love instead of anger. First, Grady, the bus
driver, showed hate and prejudice towards people of color. The text reads But Grady had his own
reason for hating the route. The Hall Street Express serviced black domestics who rode out to the
fashionable west end in the mornings and back down to the lower east side in the evenings. This

How Does Jack London Create Similarities Between The Call...
Many readers of the fiction genre come across Jack London s works. London began writing in the year
of 1893 after his mother encouraged him to write his story and submit it into a writing contest. If you
have ever came across one of London s novels you have probably noticed the similarities of setting,
theme, and the protagonist. London s novels The Call of the Wind and White Fang share several of
those similarities. London uses similarities throughout the settings in The Call of the Wind and White

London s protagonists are dogs in both of his novels. The snow walls pressed him on every side, and a
great surge of fear swept through him the fear of the wild thing for the trap. It was a token that he was
harking back through his own life to the lives of his forebears; for he was a civilised dog, an unduly
civilised dog, and of his own experience knew no trap and so could not of himself fear it. The muscles
of his whole body contracted spasmodically and instinctively (London 30). In The Call of the Wind,
London shows Buck s animal fear and his more advanced level of fear. So White Fang knew nothing
of the kindness a man s hand might offer. Besides, he did not like the hands of the man animals. He
did not trust them. It was true they sometimes gave meat, but more often they gave hurt. Hands were
things to keep away from. (London 86). In White Fang, White Fang started out as just a puppy in the
wild. He does normal puppy things like exploring and getting himself into trouble with the humans.
The humans would not only give him food, but beat and throw rocks at him giving him no reason to
trust the human hand. In The Call of the Wind and White Fang, London uses the similarities of the

Seatbelt Research Papers
The impacts of seatbelts in a car crash
The industrial revolution in the early 20th century lead to a boom in the production of automobiles. As
a result, revolutionized urban transportation. Earlier cars, were not built keeping in mind passenger
safety. This led to lot of fatal accidents, where many drivers and front seat passengers lost their lives.
The invention of the seat belt has dramatically improved passenger safety. The seat belt is a safety
device designed to retract and secure a driver or passenger in a vehicle to their seat.
It was first patented by an American inventor, Edward J. Claghorn in 1885. In the early 50s many car
companies started offering seatbelts. The Nash, Ford motor company and the Swedish firm Saab
adopted them early. It was around the same time that people increasingly started using seatbelts in the
US.
In 1955, a famous actor, James Dean died due to a two vehicle crash in the Southern California desert.
He would have likely survived this if he had been wearing a seat belt. The Dean crash raised public
awareness in the US about seat belt utilization in automobiles, and their possible advantages. The

The Intelligence Gathering And Counterterrorism Measures...
This paper will investigate the intelligence gathering and counterterrorism measures undergone after
the 1998 bombings leading up to the 2013 Mall shootings to determine the effectiveness of the
measures, and analyze the underlying structural impediments to counterterrorism and intelligence, the
inherent challenges, and opportunities An analysis of why Kenya continues to suffer sporadic attacks
will follow, and recommendations on what additional intelligence reform measures can be taken will
be included in this report. The paper s main finding is that while Kenya has done a moderately
successful job of enacting policy reforms that strike an acceptable balance between civil liberties and
public security, it has significant improvements to make in the intelligence gathering area, and it also
has not adequately addressed the issue of inequality that lead to disenfranchisement and radicalization
of educated and uneducated youth and the unemployed. It therefore requires further changes in order
to handle the long term threat of terrorism.
It will begin with more in depth descriptions of the 1998 and 2013 terrorist attacks in Kenya,
including accounts of the Kenyan government s immediate actions in response to these events. These
descriptions will be followed by a broader study of recent terror and intelligence reforms in Kenya.
This paper will analyze these reforms and consider the support they received, the reactions that they

Lord Byron s View Of Prometheus
For hundreds upon hundreds of years, writers have utilized poetry to express a certain feeling. To do
this, poets rely primarily on pathos to make the reader feel something and allow them to identify with
the poet himself. Master of establishing mood, which Merriam Webster defines as, a distinctive
atmosphere or context, Lord Byron never fails to communicate his exact thoughts. With the precision
and accuracy of a surgeon, he manipulates words and sentences to say exactly what he means nothing

Prometheus, ad his hatred of Zeus.

A coach or mentor can help to give guidance and support as challenges are faced, assisting staff in
negotiating challenging situations with increased confidence.
I would work to enable staff to define their priority issues, set clear goals and identify actions. They
will do this by using techniques such as careful listening and skilful questioning. An example of this
would be how I would coach/mentor a new member of staff who has never worked in the care sector
before. I am always conscious of asking and not telling . Although I am competent in my role, I am
not there to prove this. There will always be things for me to learn too. I think creatively not
systematically. I will ask questions effectively in order for me to feel I am fulfilling my role as a
mentor/coach. I feel I am not there to give them advice but I will challenge their thinking, asking
questions that deepen their own perceptions and create the space them to advise themselves . I have
undertaken this role on numerous occasions with new staff members and am confident that they are
becoming competent in their roles.
Experiencing a coaching management style will ease some staff into this method of communicating

instead they just get married. If they would just wait to find a good time to maybe talk to their parents
about it, that would be the mature thing to do. Romeo also has immaturity not in love, but in revenge.
After Tybalt kills Mercutio, Romeo immaturely goes and gets Tybalt. Most of us would do this, but it
is still immature. Romeo should just wait for the Prince to give Tybalt his punishment and everything
would be fine. Instead Romeo goes and kills Tybalt, and puts his own life in jeopardy. If Romeo
would be mature and think about these things, the Prince would not banish him to Mantua and he

Why Is Soccer Important
Soccer is a type of game that uses a lot of energy and techniques. It is played and enjoyed on the
poorest playground. People watch and play soccer daily for leisure and for some, it is a profession. It
is a universal game that is being played and enjoyed all over the world. It would be unfair to say that
soccer is only important because of the pleasure derived from playing and watching the game. That
would be incorrect because soccer is the most famous sport due to its exceptional enhancement and
maintenance of quality health, the impressive social bonding which occurs during play and how it
builds up communities.
Of course, soccer is a game played in mud, grass or a flat field. Soccer can also be watched on TV,
play a video game and as a table top game called foosball . Most countries call it football because it is
played by foot. America is the only exception to this because they call it soccer. Two teams with
eleven players play the game for 90 minutes long ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Playing soccer will lead to major achievements in people s lives because of teamwork. In soccer a
player may be homeless yet he finds a family in his team (Dertarczynski,2009). The truth is that there
is a great deal of collaboration in soccer which creates a family for the player. Every player has a role
to perform when playing and they all work hand in hand towards the same goal as a team. In this
situation, players learn how to relate to each other, thereby motivating each other to be better player.
Teammates learn how to trust each other to build important goals as a team. As a matter of fact,
teamwork in soccer will increase people s efficiency both at work and in school. People will learn how
to accept their friends or co worker s weakness and try to help them to succeed in their various tasks.
This will reduce people s weakness s and help them form better problem solving skills towards

Marconi was not the first to use radio waves; he made improvements to help better radio waves.
People were wrong to say Marconi created the radio, but he is one person who made history and
improvements to the radio. Marconi and Tesla were the top two people in the picture through the time
that the radio was being improved. They worked out the problems that stopped them from being at the
top of their careers, and could have made the radio better than what they got it to be in the 1920. Tesla
was one who really looked in the future with the radio and how far that it could progress. Marconi
could see where the problems were needed to be fixed and improvements to the radio that was not
seen by Tesla. This is why they could have been a good team but they were too busy trying to see who
was going to be the best and who was going to get to the top first. Eventually they began helping each
other to make the radio work and broadcast all over the world. They were able to show their talent
with what can be done to the radio. The radio was one thing that allowed the family to get together

Baumol s Cost Disease
Current Economic Issues
Baumol s cost disease is unpopular with politician from both ends of the political spectrum Why? Is
that? Is Baumol s cost disease likely to remain relevant to the debate about public services?
Introduction
This essay examines Baumols s cost disease giving reasons why it is unpopular with politicians from
both ends of the political spectrum, and also presents further salient factors that makes Baumol s cost
disease relevant to debates about public services.

characteristics of the public sector which may include lack of efficiency and low productivity due to

From an economist s point of view, wage increases should be awarded as a result of increased
productivity. Productivity is defined by economists as the amount of physical output that can be
produced per working hour therefore an increase in productivity can only occurs as a result of this:
increased capital per worker, better management, improved technology, increase labor skill, and
economies of scale.
This definition of productivity allows the reader to conclude that rises in output per hour for each
worker are more likely to happen in sectors of the economy which rely heavily on machinery and
equipment during the process of production. By way of contrast, the public sector relies heavily on
people.
The public sector, despite improvements in technology, expansion of information and knowledge
which have provided most people with access to ways of improving their work and performance, the
fact that this sector of the economy relies so heavily on people and it s managed by the government in
one of its several roles makes it very inefficient. However its expected that the government should
engage in efficiently allocating the resources they are in charge of managing.
The economic problem of what to produce, how to produce i.e. production methodologies, and

eBags: Managing Growth
Case Study 5
Patrick Johnson, Amina Mirzohoshim, Frank Park, Raja Pattamatta, Rita Thakur
4/25/2011
Introduction: eBags, the online luggage and travel products store, started as a business idea by Jon
Nordmark in the spring of 1998. Nordmark convinced Peter and Eliot Cobb, Frank Steed, and Andy
Youngs to join his venture, using their collective industry knowledge from being top executives with
Samsonite USA and American Tourister. With a personal investment of $50k from each of them to
startup and $6.8M in funding early the following year from venture capitalists, such as Benchmark
Capital, they were able to launch eBags.com in March of 1999. With continued venture capital ...

Bags come in boxes that manufacturers use for shipping via small package delivery to a fragmented
base of retail customers. But shoes ship to retailers in bulk packaging rather than individual boxes (
(Laseter, Rabinovich, Huang, 2006)). So when companies like eBags use drop ship order process,
there is an additional shipping cost to the manufacturer to repackage shoes and ship shoes to the
customer. Shoes have a short product life cycle and also suffer a high return rate. Some customers
order more than one pair with an idea to return the pair that does not fit. Thus shoes carry a much
higher cost to serve and selling them online requires a different business model. A comparison of a
potential acquisition candidate for eBags in footwear, Shodeni, shows that the SKU count is very high
for shoes compared to luggage or bags and eBags should be extremely efficient if it has to handle that
high SKU. eBags should add call centers to handle calls from customers in addition to support through
the website. They should continue with the strategy of having manufacturers send the shipment
directly to the customer.
European Expansion:
The European market was considered to be just as highly fragmented as the US Market and luggage
retailers mainly consisted of small, family owned stores with many limitations. These stores didn t
meet the demands of many customers who were looking for a wider array of selection and styles. In
Europe,

The Importance Of Character Development In Great...
People are selfish creatures who generally view others in a limited, self serving manner; only forming
an opinion on another s identity in relation to their own. In the novel Great Expectations by Charles
Dickens, the protagonist Pip s character development is entirely due to the way he views those close to
him and his need for self improvement in response to these views. As Pip matures, he looks to the
world around him and more importantly to the people around him to form his desires and ambitions.
The novel illustrates the dangers of both ambition and idealism and provides a brilliant commentary
on social conformity. Although Pip does grow to place genuine value on those close to him later in
life, he reflects on his former aspirations and selfishness in his youth that caused much turmoil in his
life. Despite Pip s brother in law, Joe Gargery, beginning as a personal hero that Pip initially likens to
a sort of Hercules in strength (7), Pip later grows ashamed of him. Joe s character basically remains
unchanged throughout the novel and primarily acts as a symbol of Pip s personal growth (or lack
thereof). Joe is described as a kind and honest blacksmith with little financial success, and he
represents Pip s modest beginnings and true background which Pip wishes to leave in the past as he
begins to seek out a great fortune. Biddy, who eventually ends up marrying Joe, is also a reminder of
Pip s poor beginnings and acts as a foil to the character Estella because she

  • 2. Death In Mary Oliver s Sleeping In The Forest Mary Oliver s poem, Sleeping in the Forest, presents a peaceful and vivid representation of death and its relationship with nature. As the poem begins, the reader is introduced to the earth welcoming the speaker back into the realm of nature. Man was created from the dust of the earth and when we die, our bodies return to the dust. However, this poem presents a more beautiful image of what death is composed of. Death is often portrayed as being frightening and disturbing. When individuals are presented with the thought of death, they often push this thought away out of fear and ignorance. Everyone will die someday whether we ignore the thought of death or not. However, Oliver creates a relaxing and welcoming image for the reader on what death (ideally) is. Obviously, since Oliver is still alive, she doesn t know what death feels like. However, the way she describes death, I hope that it feels like sleeping in a forest; full of stars and enchantment. The enchantment in this poem begins by the earth welcoming the speaker back home. This speaker expresses that, She took me back so tenderly. This statement exemplifies to the reader that death is not a scary process. In this case, the earth is being portrayed as a woman. This is significant because women are often portrayed as being nurturing and caring. For the reader, this can trigger memories or ideas of who the reader would picture the earth as. Whether that be a mother, grandmother, aunt, sister, etc. the reader can ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The International Criminal Court ( Icc ) Introduction: The international criminal court (ICC) is an unalike international organization, as it deals with individuals of the state parties and non state parties both. The Court among its wide prospects prosecutes individuals, accepts communications and complaints from them, and also allows for an independent official to initiate prosecution. But, independent officials in international organizations always have a controversial position given the fact that they have autonomy and authority to act independently creating a probable threat to the national sovereignty of the member nations. • 4. Eternal Sunshine Of The Spotless Mind By Michel Gondry Essay A hollow feeling inside of your chest consumes your body. The room is filled with your sobs and hiccuped breaths. A million thoughts are racing through your head; none of these are positive. You tell yourself that you wish you never met them. You plea at the universe to take away all the memories of them. You beg to never again feel this type of agony. If possible, would you eradicate the memory of another human? In the movie Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Joel Barish (Jim Carrey) and Clementine Kruczynski (Kate Winslet) do exactly this. Directed by Michel Gondry, this American romantic comedy wonderfully expresses the idea that a person s memories are fundamental in human growth. Through cinematography, lighting, and character development, Gondry successfully directs one of the best twenty first century films. The cinematography of Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind effectively develops the film s plot and characters. In the beginning of the movie, Joel is shown awaking in a close up. This shot easily shows the gloomy expression on his face, asking the audience to question why he is upset. Hand held cameras provide the story with a natural, more realistic feel, inviting the audience into Joel s memories. The hand held cameras provide the film with an imperfect, human perspective. This can be viewed primarily in the honeymoon on ice scene. Slight shakes of the camera are evident. In the scene when Joel and Clementine see each other on the train to Montauk, far ... • 6. Literary Analysis Of The Cat In The Hat The Cat In The Hat: A Story of Chaos and Order The Cat In The Hat by Dr. Seuss, pseudonym of Theodor Seuss Geisel, tells a story of two children at home on a rainy day alone, being visited by the Cat in the Hat and the turmoil that he causes. The Cat In The Hat is clearly Geisel s most famous book, written in 1956 and published in 1957, considered a children s classic today. It was The Cat In The Hat where Dr. Seuss jubilantly breaks the barriers of the basal reader s simplistic language and pedestrian artwork (MacDonald 10). In The Cat In The Hat, Geisel uses this childish language and comical pictures as well as an interesting story and fun characters to not only create a successful children s book but to deliver a subtle political message of rebellion against authority. The simplicity of the vocabulary and the sentence structure in The Cat In The Hat makes it easy for almost anyone to read and enjoy. In fact, many children learn to read today studying Dr. Seuss books. Virginia M. Reid, author of the article by the National Council of Teachers of English titled Weaning Books, refers to The Cat In The Hat as a baby food type of book for young children (8). It is these books that can get children excited about reading. Geisel uses repetition, poetic meter and rhyme to make the story flow, encouraging the reader to read it out loud. For example when the Cat In The Hat appears at the beginning of the story, he says I know it is wet, And the sun is not sunny. But we can have Lots of good fun that is funny! (Seuss 7). The words are simple and lively, immediately getting your attention. The use of the exclamation mark at the end of the sentence also cannot be a mistake. Geisel uses punctuation throughout the book for emphasis and amusement. The Cat in the Hat asks the children, Why do you sit there like that? almost mimicking what the reader is thinking (Seuss 6). Geisel has even gone so far to create a rhythm as one reads the story like poetry. It is this simple language that gives The Cat In The Hat its pleasure to the reader that runs parallel but separate to its entertaining illustrations. The pictures of The Cat In The Hat are very similar to its language, repetitive and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Concept Analysis Management Focusing on Acute Pain: A Multidisciplinary Concept Analysis The concept of managing acute pain is extremely significant to nursing as pain is one of the most common problems for which patients seek out health care resources. Pain is a complex and abstract concept that encompasses sensory, emotional, psychological, social, and spiritual perceptions of pain that may occur in combination with physical pain. Defining pain from a psychological perspective, it can be agreed that pain involves a physiological stimulus. The presence of a physiological stimulus cannot determine the pain behavior. Each study discussed above examines the model of facial recognition and its relation to overt and covert recognition. Covert facial recognition is the unconscious recognition of familiar faces (Maureen, 2016). Whereas, overt facial recognition is the conscious recognition (Maureen, 2016). There has been a vast amount of research on the topic in an attempt to discover exactly how the recognition of facial features/expressions take place in the brain and how it can be linked to certain neurological disorders. Overall, results from each study examined tend to suggest that overt and covert facial recognition share the same area of the brain. Research by Farah and colleagues did not support this idea however, they do not deny it either. Rather, they suggest the possibility of separate forms of prosopagnosia, one causing damage to both overt and covert facial recognition while the other(s) cause damage to only one of the functions. This study, however, is also much older than the others examined which could be a result of lack of information that overtime was learned by others. The majority of research suggests that damage to overt facial recognition will in time result in damage to covert facial recognition. Thus meaning if one is damaged it is only a matter of time before the other starts to suffer. However, with it not being the case one hundred percent of the time it would not be fair to assume that and ignore opposing research. • 19. Advantages And Disadvantages Of Natural Fibers Natural fibers represent environmentally friendly alternatives to conventional reinforcing fibers (glass, carbon, kevlar). Because of their hollow and cellular nature, natural fibers perform as acoustic and thermal insulators and exhibit reduced bulk density [33, 34]. Some of the disadvantages and limitations of natural fibers, when used as reinforcement for composites, are related to the lack of proper interfacial adhesion, poor resistance to moisture absorption, limited processing temperature to about 200Β°C, and low dimensional stability (shrinkage, swelling). Researches are being done to improve these properties and are implemented continuously [35, 36]. The fiber surface heterogeneities such as surface defects, impurities, surface flaws, etc. affect the mechanical properties of the composites remarkably. The Role of Women in Things Fall Apart Chinua Achebe s Things Fall Apart explores the struggle between old traditions within the Igbo community as well as Christianity and the second coming it brings forth. While on the surface, it appears the novel narrows its focus to a single character, Okonkno and his inner battles, one can read deeper into the text and find an array of assorted conflicts in the realm on human vs. human, human vs. nature, human vs. society, and society vs. society. While the presence of his father, although negative, is prevalent in much of the novel, the presence of his mother is all but nonexistent. To my knowledge, his (unnamed) mother shows up only once in the text, three days after his participation in the ritual murder of Ikemefuna, his adopted son (Jeyifo 3). For the first time in three nights, Okonkwo slept. He woke up once in the middle of the night and his mind went back to the past three days without making him feel uneasy. He began to wonder why he felt uneasy at all. It was like a man wondering in broad daylight why a dream had appeared so terrible to him at night. He stretched himself and scratched his thigh where a mosquito had bitten him as he slept. Another one was wailing near his right ear. He slapped the ear and hoped he had killed it. Why do they always go for one s ears? When he was a child his mother had told him a story about it. But it was as silly as all women s stories. Mosquito, she had said, had asked Ear to marry him, whereupon she fell on the floor in uncontrollable laughter. How much longer do you think you will live?, she asked. You are already a skeleton. Mosquito went away humiliated, and anytime he passed her way he told Ear that he was still alive (Achebe 53). The issue of euthanasia is one of the most discussed topics in all of the United States Congress. US government agencies, legislators and leaders have attempted unsuccessfully to stop assisted suicide nationwide by barring the use of federally controlled substances at lethal levels intended for mercy killing. If someone wants to end their life by means of a doctor then they should be allowed to do it. US pathologist Dr. Jack Kevorkian, who by his own admission has assisted 130 people with their own suicides, has been the target of considerable media and government attention. Kevorkian is the leading quot;right to die doctor in the US because of his work providing lethal medication to patients so that they may commit or pursue their own suicides. But the release of a videotape by Kevorkian in January, 1999, showing the physician injecting lethal medication into a patient in Michigan has changed the nature of the controversy from the right to die to medically assisted euthanasia. Kevorkian is charged with murder and faces trial next spring. Dr. Kevorkian is the first known US physician to carry out an act of mercy killing. In conclusion, I think that it is legal for someone to end their life only if they have a certain condition that is un curable or if the person is suffering tremendously. • 22. Strength And Strength Of Leadership Throughout centuries, strength in leadership was associated with leadership roles in men. Today, it is seen as a trait in both sexes. Before discussing strength in leadership as a trait in women, strength in leadership must be defined. Strength in leadership differs from brute strength and ability to lift heavy weights. This form of strength in leadership differs from strict authoritarian strength in power associated with wealth and might in traditional leadership. Strength in leadership is found in the form of inner strength. Inner strength is the ability to use endurance gained from previous suffering and apply it them to a situation (Lewis 2004). Individuals with inner strength can monitor their actions and emotions. Inner strength allows a leader to overcome difficulties and encourage others to do so as well. Also, inner strength allows a leader to take control making the terms strength in leadership and inner strength interchangeable. Leaders acquire inner strength is a learned trait. Mostly inner strength comes from experience of difficulties. The ability for a leader to pull themselves up from failure is also part of the process of learning inner strength. Problems are solved using inner strength. Within these solutions to problems, the core values of a leader are developed. The core values shape a person s inner strength and her or his ability to continue. While strength in leadership is associated with masculinity, women labeled weak and unable to lead. Women ... Although in the past being an immigrant in this country was often faced with hardship and discrimination the dream of a better and more promising future in America has always enticed people from places far and wide. Such has been the case with people from Japan and Arab countries. The first Japanese to migrate to the United States in significant numbers did so following changes to the 1868 Meiji Restoration (Lee, L. P. 1989). They had to endure much hostility since their beginning in the US; many attributed this mentality with competitive reasons for wanting to get rid of the Japanese Americans who grew vegetables at low cost and own millions worth of California land. Dairy Cows Rumination Time Rumination is influenced by various external and internal factors such as acute stress, disease, diet composition, fodder quality, cow grouping, climatic conditions, reproduction status and other health statuses (Calamari, et al., 2014). Studies conducted by Soriani, Panella, Calamari (2013), uncovered differences in the rumination times of healthy and sick cows. It was identified that lower ruminations times show signs of heath disorders. Identifying such patterns in dairy cows will enable an early detection of diseases and in some cases will save the cow/s from death. Rumination Time data can be also used to assess relationships to the incidence of clinical symptoms of diseases and metabolic inflammatory indices in the blood (Soriani, Panella, Calamari, 2013). The main factors that is responsible for the increase in the incidence of female infanticide and foeticide is the low status of women, son preference, and the practice of dowry across all casts groups. The low status of women and girls is due to cultural beliefs and the material cost they represent to their families. Therefore, they become dependent on men, whether it is the father, the husband or the son. The preference for male children is due to three major reasons. One is the economic value of having sons. Sons are more likely than daughters to provide family labour on the farm or in a family business, earn wages, and support their parents during old age. Upon marriage, a son brings a daughter in law into his family, and she provides additional help around the house as well as she brings riches in the form of dowry payments. Another important advantage of having sons is their social cultural utility. In India patriarchal family system, having one son is essential for the continuation of the family line, and many sons provide high status to the family. Vanaja Dhruvarajan says, When a women becomes a mother, especially the mother of a son, her status goes up in her new home for having helped perpetuate the family (87) Finally, the utility of having sons comes from the important religious functions that only sons can provide. In Hindu tradition, sons are needed to do the funeral of their deceased parents and to help in the salvation of their souls. • 29. The Woman In The Snow Short Story No matter who we are, no matter how successful, no matter what our situation, compassion is something we need to receive and give, author Catherine Pulsifer said. Patricia McKissack wanted to show this theme in her short story, The Woman in the Snow by using her character, a black mother named Eula Mae Daniels. In the beginning of the story, a racist bus driver spots her struggling through the snow, holding her sick baby and begging him to give her a ride, even offering him her wedding ring. He refuses and drives off without her because she does not have money to pay for the ride. As the story progresses, she is found dead the next morning and begins to haunt the route, killing the bus driver in a crash, continuing to haunt the route until all drivers refuse to take it. This theme begins to develop when Ray Hammond, the first black metro driver, sees Eula Mae on the route and offers a ride for free instead of denying her one, so she thanked him and gave him a smile before disappearing into the swirling snow. Compassion is always important. The author was showing that when you show compassion instead of hate to others, they will return love instead of anger. First, Grady, the bus driver, showed hate and prejudice towards people of color. The text reads But Grady had his own reason for hating the route. If they would just wait to find a good time to maybe talk to their parents about it, that would be the mature thing to do. Romeo also has immaturity not in love, but in revenge. After Tybalt kills Mercutio, Romeo immaturely goes and gets Tybalt. Most of us would do this, but it is still immature. Romeo should just wait for the Prince to give Tybalt his punishment and everything would be fine. Instead Romeo goes and kills Tybalt, and puts his own life in jeopardy. If Romeo would be mature and think about these things, the Prince would not banish him to Mantua and he could still see Juliet and be with his ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... From an economist s point of view, wage increases should be awarded as a result of increased productivity. Productivity is defined by economists as the amount of physical output that can be produced per working hour therefore an increase in productivity can only occurs as a result of this: increased capital per worker, better management, improved technology, increase labor skill, and economies of scale. This definition of productivity allows the reader to conclude that rises in output per hour for each worker are more likely to happen in sectors of the economy which rely heavily on machinery and equipment during the process of production. By way of contrast, the public sector relies heavily on people. The public sector, despite improvements in technology, expansion of information and knowledge which have provided most people with access to ways of improving their work and performance, the fact that this sector of the economy relies so heavily on people and it s managed by the government in one of its several roles makes it very inefficient. However its expected that the government should engage in efficiently allocating the resources they are in charge of managing. Nordmark convinced Peter and Eliot Cobb, Frank Steed, and Andy Youngs to join his venture, using their collective industry knowledge from being top executives with Samsonite USA and American Tourister. With a personal investment of $50k from each of them to startup and $6.8M in funding early the following year from venture capitalists, such as Benchmark Capital, they were able to launch eBags.com in March of 1999. But shoes ship to retailers in bulk packaging rather than individual boxes ( (Laseter, Rabinovich, Huang, 2006)). So when companies like eBags use drop ship order process, there is an additional shipping cost to the manufacturer to repackage shoes and ship shoes to the customer. Shoes have a short product life cycle and also suffer a high return rate. Some customers order more than one pair with an idea to return the pair that does not fit. Thus shoes carry a much higher cost to serve and selling them online requires a different business model. A comparison of a potential acquisition candidate for eBags in footwear, Shodeni, shows that the SKU count is very high for shoes compared to luggage or bags and eBags should be extremely efficient if it has to handle that high SKU. eBags should add call centers to handle calls from customers in addition to support through the website. They should continue with the strategy of having manufacturers send the shipment directly to the customer. European Expansion: The European market was considered to be just as highly fragmented as the US Market and luggage retailers mainly consisted of small, family owned stores with many limitations. These stores didn t meet the demands of many customers who were looking for a wider array of selection and styles. In Europe, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 46. The Importance Of Character Development In Great... People are selfish creatures who generally view others in a limited, self serving manner; only forming an opinion on another s identity in relation to their own. In the novel Great Expectations by Charles Dickens, the protagonist Pip s character development is entirely due to the way he views those close to him and his need for self improvement in response to these views. As Pip matures, he looks to the world around him and more importantly to the people around him to form his desires and ambitions. The novel illustrates the dangers of both ambition and idealism and provides a brilliant commentary on social conformity. Although Pip does grow to place genuine value on those close to him later in life, he reflects on his former aspirations and selfishness in his youth that caused much turmoil in his life. Despite Pip s brother in law, Joe Gargery, beginning as a personal hero that Pip initially likens to a sort of Hercules in strength (7), Pip later grows ashamed of him. Joe s character basically remains unchanged throughout the novel and primarily acts as a symbol of Pip s personal growth (or lack thereof). Joe is described as a kind and honest blacksmith with little financial success, and he represents Pip s modest beginnings and true background which Pip wishes to leave in the past as he begins to seek out a great fortune. Biddy, who eventually ends up marrying Joe, is also a reminder of Pip s poor beginnings and acts as a foil to the character Estella because she ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
