Essay on Bracero Program
The Bracero Program
The Bracero Program was a temporary contract labor program initiated in 1942 by the United States
and Mexico. Designed originally to bring a experienced Mexican agricultural laborers to harvest sugar
beets in Stockton, California, but soon spread to most of the United States and to the railroad industry.
Although the railroad program ended in 1945, after World War II the agricultural program continued
until 1964. Originally, the program was designed to protect the illegal migrant workers against the
exploitation by American farmers. However, it was criticized and was viewed as a failure from the
humanitarian point of view. Workers in the Bracero Program continued to face struggles with the

The United States wielded the power of negotiations with both the Mexican government and the
Mexican people. Mexico lost all real bargaining power in the 1950 s. Along with opposition from
Cesar Chavez and Dolores Huerta, the United States determined that the program was no longer vital
to the American s; it discontinued the program in 1964. Chavez and Huerta fought the program
because it undermined American workers and exploited the migrant workers. Nothing says it more
obvious than the account from Walt Edwards (as cited in Dillin, 2006), When we caught illegal aliens
on farms and ranches, the farmer or rancher would often call and complain [to officials in El Paso].
And depending on how politically connected they were, there would be political intervention. That is
how we got into this mess we are in now. (Dillin, John, 2006) By the end of the program, farm labor
unions began to form which eventually led to the abolishment of laws stating it was illegal to organize
farm labor. This lead the way to the grape strikes in California and the boycotts in stores, lead by
Filipino farm workers. After the first strike several various organizations began to form and led similar
movements around the country. Through the 1960s to the 1980s, Cesar Chavez was a major
inspiration to such movements and organizations. One of the most notable protests was when Chavez
and the UFW marched from the Coachella Valley to the Mexican

Pros And Cons Of Eugenics
Eugenics, developed by an eminent scientist, Francis Galton, is the science of improving the qualities
of the human species or a human population by controlling breeding to increase the occurrence of
desirable heritable characteristic traits and decrease the occurrence of undesirable characteristic traits
or genetical defects (Bergman, 2000.) Eugenic sterilization refers to the involuntary sterilization of
certain categories of individuals without their need for consent by those subjected to the procedure
(Pozgar, 2012, Pg. 411.) Individuals classified as mentally deficient, feeble minded, epileptic,
promiscuous, sexual deviants, or persons classified as habitual criminals were mainly targeted
(Pozgar, 2012, Pg. 411.) Eugenicists argued degenerate traits tainted society through the reproduction
of the lowest class and sterilization was to keep the handicapped from perpetuating themselves
(Kaelber, 2014.) In addition, eugenicists also argued that feeble minded individuals were believed to
be financial burdens to society by overcrowding prisons, hospitals and living off welfare (Kaelber,
2014.) Sterilization was seen as a way to prevent the spending of tax dollars on the feeble minded
(Kaelber, 2014.) These arguments allowed Eugenics to become an acceptable practice. Advocates
believed that getting rid of the feeble minded and mentally deficient would decrease the undesirable
characteristic traits within the human gene pool and ultimately improve the human population.

Physical And Technological Resources Used At Heaton Manor
Physical and technological resources used at Heaton Manor
Both the physical and technological resources need to be managed carefully in Heaton Manor.
Physical resources include the building, maintenance and security of the premises. However, the
Technological resources include the physical equipment and designs and drawings.
Physical Resources
These are the resources that the business needs to maintain in order to carry out its activities. They
include things like the buildings, facilities, plant and machinery. Management of physical resources
involves planning maintenance and refurbishment, and includes organising insurance and security to
keep those resources safe.
Buildings and Facilities
Staff Room, Lunch Halls, Toilets, PE Department, Math s Department, Science Department, English
Department, Humanities Department, Art, Design, Textile, Food Department, Library, Technician
Department, ICT Department, Sixth form Department, Nursery Department, Tennis Court and Astro

Depressed Employees
Managing Depressed Part time Employees
Fair remuneration and favorable job design are positively linked to higher productivity and
satisfaction in employees. Employees may lack motivation to work if they perceive that the pay
structure in an organization is largely unfavorable to their interests. Income inequality in organizations
or industries often leads to stress and depression due to the high cost of living and perceived
unfairness. Depressed employees are less productive at work due to their lack of concentration, low
motivation, and antisocial behaviors. It is important for any supervisor to develop appropriate
mechanisms to effectively handle depression in employees.
I would adopt a transformational leadership style in managing activities of the subordinates.
Transformational leadership allows a leader to be in close contact with his/her followers to understand
their fears, aspirations and personal challenges. Employees develop emotional ties and a sense of unity
with an organization that understands and supports them. Through such a leadership approach, it will
be possible for me to work jointly with employees in developing job designs that suit the interests of
the organization and the workers. As a result, employees will ... Show more content on

However, due to financial constraints and unfavorable economic conditions, businesses cannot always
rely on pay and attractive job designs to motivate employees. As a supervisor of depressed part time
employees, I would consider using a personalized, transformational leadership model in understanding
my employees and responding to their needs. I would communicate regularly with my employees in a
friendly way to offer encouragement and motivation at work. I would also work closely with
employees and the management to reward and recognize hardworking employees with permanent jobs
and career advancement

Analysis of Chapter 2 Transtition and Change and Chapter 3...
This week s reading starts with a Chapter 2 Transition and Change. After reviewing the chapter for a
second time there were a few nuggets that stood out to the reader, nuggets that would be very
beneficial to be mindful of when assisting family businesses with transitions and changes. As stated
last week the Godrej Group provides four characteristics of a family firm that will help protect the
sources of their past success and at the same time, seek needed innovation. (Schuman, A., Stutz, S.,
Ward, J.L. 2012, p. 38). This concept includes the complex successor dilemmas. This component was
best summarized by a quote from Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh which states Change does not
change tradition. It strengthens it. Change is a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Because the family business it so new, family paradoxes like making time for family trips and
vacations may arise. For the 2nd generation the family business is more family focused. The
paradoxes that arise are often regarding whether the revenues should be used to give family members
larger salaries or update equipment. The 3rd generation is often more business focus, but it s focus is
extremely different from G1. This third generation is often searching for way to include all the
members of the founding family and their unique skill sets to expand the brand, oversee the
philanthropy activities and handle other areas of the family business besides production. The reading
shows that the family priorities for G1 is roots and wings, for G2 is work and home, and for G3 is
loyalty and freedom. The key impact areas of strategic choice for G1 is action and planning, for G2 is
opportunistic and core, and for G3 is invest and harvest. The key impact areas of management
philosophy for G1 is expedience and patience, for G2 is task and process, for G3 is privacy and
transparency. The key impact areas of decision making for G1 is control and trust, for G2 is individual
and collective and for G3 is formal and informal. The key impact areas of ownership focus for G1 is
proprietorship and stewardship, G2 is merit and equality and for G3 is one family and individual

Moral Dilemma In Football
Moral Dilemma When I entered freshman year at Sacred Heart Cathedral, I knew that I wanted to try
and experiment with things I had never done before. Something I had always had an interest in was
playing football. All the movies and stories portray football a great to build a brotherhood with your
teammates, and I liked that. The whole idea of playing as one team with a common goal to succeed
sounded great to me. In the past, I had played many other team sports like soccer, baseball, and
basketball, but I always had the idea that football was the ultimate team sport. You must rely on and
have complete trust in your ten other teammates who are out on the field with you. Football really
emphasizes the, There s no I in team saying. All these ideas made me want to start playing football
greatly, but there were some hesitations. Since the beginning of football, it has always been thought of
as a very dangerous sport with extreme risk of injury. This idea was constantly in the back of my
mind, that I could get hurt and be messed up for the rest of my life. I have heard numeros stories and
known people that have had serious injuries. Football helmets and pads are constantly being updated
to protect the players as much as possible. New rules about tackling and head on head contact have
been regularly implemented as well. Even with these means to protect players, with every play there is
always bigger risk than most other sports. My entire life could be shaped from one football

Kant s Philosophy on the Metaphysical World Explained in...
In the Critique of Pure Reason, philosopher Immanuel Kant aims to thoroughly explain his philosophy
of the metaphysical world. Within the Transcendental Aesthetic, Kant focuses on confirming that
space and time are a priori intuitions. He provides reasoning and arguments as to why they are
transcendentally ideal but empirically real, making space and time subjectively necessary for
experiences. Simultaneously, Kant distinguishes space and time from secondary qualities, which
belong to our senses through experience, by confirming that unlike space and time, secondary
qualities are not empirically real. Kant does run into conflicts with his theory, he still successfully
claims that space and time are transcendentally ideal but empirically real, as well as distinguish them
from secondary qualities by supporting his theories with reasoning. Kant s theory of transcendental
idealism states that human beings only experience appearances and not things in themselves (Rohlf).
Space and time are transcendentally ideal because they allow us to perceive things in themselves. This
means that space and time are only forms in which properties of objects appear and not properties of
things in themselves. Therefore, space and time are not self subsistent and nor are they substances that
have properties. Kant draws two conclusions for space and three conclusions for time. In conclusion
(a), Kant states that space and time do not have properties of things in themselves (A26/B42). He also

Joseph Franz Haydn Essays
He is considered by some people to be one of the most famous composers of the classical period. His
career grew with the development of classical style and forms, with the symphony, sonata, string
quartet, and other instrumental forms, in the moulding of which he played an important part. Joseph
Haydn was born in Rohrau in 1732, the son of a wheelwright, he trained as a chorister at St. Stephen s
Cathedral in Vienna, where he made an early living. He worked as a freelance musician, playing the
violin and the keyboard instruments, accompanying for singing lessons given by the composer
Porpora, who helped and encouraged him ( Boynick, 1). In this essay, I will discuss a brief overview
of Joseph Haydn s life. I will also talk about some ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Among the operas from this period are Lo speziale, L infedelta delusa and II mondo della luna. Haydn
s job was to prepare the music, adapting or arranging it for the voices of the resident singers. In 1779
the opera house burnt down; Haydn composed La fedelta premiata for its reopening in 1781 (Boynick,
2). Until then his operas has largely been comic genres; his last two for Esterhaza, Orlando paladino
(1782) and Armida (1783), are mixed or serious genres (Boynick, 2). Haydn s reputation had now
grown and was international. Much of his music had been published in all the main European centres;
under a revised contract with the Esterhaza his employer no longer had exclusive rights to his music
(Boynick, 2).
His work in the 1780s included symphonies, piano trios, piano sonatas, and string quartets. His
influential op.33 quartets, issued in 1782, were said to be in a quite new, special manner: this is
sometimes thought to refer to the use of instruments or the style of thematic development, but could
refer to the introduction of Scherzos or mighty simply be an advertising device (Hughes, 36). More
quartets appeared at the end of the decade, op.50 was dedicated to the King of Prussia (often said to be

Character And Suffering Aspects Of The Play Oedipus Rex
Oedipus Rex is a play that works on extremes. First of all, Oedipus, the protagonist of the play
inadvertently kills father, Laius and performs the act of incest with his mother Jocasta. He lives in
ignorance until his deeds necessitates consequences which is when Thebes is in turmoil. The tension
that is built throughout the play goes through a cathartic moment when Oedipus goes on a self
imposed exile. Aristotle uses this play to show how it meets the requirements of being an ideal
triagedy. Aristotle, provides many requirements, but for the purpose of this essay I will be focusing on
the plot, character and suffering aspects of the play. Aristotle asserts that in a tragedy that the plot must
contain a certain magnitude is necessary, and a magnitude which may be easily embraced in one view
. In essence, what Aristotle is stating is that there must be an intensity in a plot, a universal truth which
readers can relate or resonate to. One of which is man s search for truth. Upon meeting Odysseus
Teiresias, the blind prophet, that the ...The truth within me makes me strong (424 425). Teiresias also
discusses with Oedipus that the truth is of no value to him. It is inferred from the quote that there is a
certain power, or strength that comes from truth, but since the truth which is he knows is of no value
to him, because it does not pertain to him. Oedipus whose thirst for knowledge causes him to discover
his misdeeds does provide a commendable moral. On one hand, it shows

Shiloh, By Bobbie Ann Mason
Shiloh , by Bobbie Ann Mason, explores an interesting theme, the distinct parallel between the surface
level of what the events of the story are, and the meaning underneath. This parallel is seen throughout
the story, from the start when Leroy Moffitt is building craft kits for at first just to pass time, while
Norma Jean is lifting weights and working at a Rexall drugstore for the same reason; To later on when
Norma says she doesn t know what she s talking about and Leroy thinks that the way to saving his
marriage is to come up with a last minute idea. The story engages the theme of the parallel levels
through the unstable marriage of Leroy and Norma Jean. The theme of this parallel is shown overtly
through the images, descriptions, and characterizations of the log cabins in the story, and of Shiloh.
Interestingly, the characters and the world they live in are stuck on the surface, shown through how
both Leroy and Norma Jean drift on subjects, and through the names in the story.
Norma Jean and Leroy s marriage shows an insight on the theme in action because of how their lack
of understanding the inner workings of marriage, which causes them to drift apart and eventually
separate. One of the most important things in marriage is the ability to communicate, but neither of
them are able to do so on a meaningful level. An example of this is when Norma Jean starts to explain
why she wants to leave him, then as she walks away she takes back what she said, adding No, it

Examples Of Dystopian Society In 1984
Dystopian Societies People do not realize the dystopian environment they have grown into and cannot
imagine life s wonderful opportunistic world outside of which they live in. These people are deceived
from life s real richness and true happiness. In the novel 1984, Winston is trapped in an oppressive
lifestyle and cannot think freely without having a fear of the government vaporizing him. Similarly,
the KKK provides an inhuman and tyrannical environment towards those not of the white race. The
people that live in these societies think of them as utopias, a place that is perfect for the citizens in the
way of living and government policies. They do not realize that they are actually living in a dystopian
society, where the government is oppressive ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This can be seen in 1984, as the government s political figure, Big Brother, provides protection and
comfort to the citizens. Big Brother can be seen all across the city on posters and is frequently talked
about between the people of Oceania. Big brother assures safety and happiness to the citizens as well
as Winston towards the end of the novel, But it was all right, everything was all right, the struggle was
finished. He had won the victory over himself. He loved Big Brother (Orwell 298). This shows how
Winston thinks about the possible dangers his family was in and how tough it was for them. After,
pondering about this subject for some time, he comes to the realization that he does not need to be sad
because Big Brother is always watching over him. Winston, along with many of the others, feel that
Big Brother is always watching them, which gives them a sense of safety and security in the way that
they do not have anything to worry about. Another example of how Oceania can be looked at as a
utopia is how no crime ever occurs within their society and country. This is proven in the fact that
anyone who tries or have attempted to rebel against the government have been vaporized and the
history of their existence has been completely changed. This can be seen when Winston questions his
job of editing Oceania s history, And the Records Department, after all, was itself only a single branch
of the Ministry of Truth, whose primary job was not to reconstruct the past but to supply the citizens
of Oceania with newspapers, films, textbooks, telescreen programs, plays, novels (Orwell 42 43). This
shows how everyone in 1984 does not have a reason to be upset. This is simply because all of the
negativity and rebellious acts have been removed from their history. Oceania provides the people an
enjoyable and worry free life because all of the crime in the society

Discrimination Of The North And African American
Shane Rigsby R.
History 313 Prof Gorman

Discrimination in the north (African American) One of the most dramatic demographic events that had
a significant change in America would be the Great Migration. It had to do with the moving of 6
million of African American from the southern hemisphere of the united states to the northern
hemisphere around the time of the 20th century. To better explain this event in American history it
would be best to start with the chain of events that caused it in the first place. That starting point
would have to be the Emancipation Proclamation of 1863. This was an announcement that was laid
out to say that if any state if not by the start of the 1863 that is in rebellion would have all there slaves
declared free if they did not reunite back with America. Abraham Lincoln, being the president at this
time, pushed this through because would have hurt and reduce the South s capacity to start a war by
encouraging and threatening that their slaves would leave the southern lines and come to America s.
Once the slave would come and join America they would be enlisted into the army and fight against
the south. This defiantly was the most important and first act done to help Africans in America
because it helped bring up the idea of freed slaves, but this was only done as a war measure because
slave was at that time very essential to the South s war effort and did not have helping and freeing
slaves as the main idea. This announcement did not

Lack Of News Coverage In The United States
Journalism in America is one of the biggest and most important industries our country has. Usually it
keeps one up to date with many things that are going on in society. However, recently America has
faced a downfall in the reporting of foreign news. As Americans there is a need for an increased
amount of foreign coverage because there are many worldly issues we must know about, news
networks are beginning to focus only on the everyday life of Americans, and the internet (specifically,
social media) is slowly taking away the reality and realness of international news.
The United States is a country that is heavily involved in the affairs of other countries. It is important
that international news coverage stays as relevant as any other news because of how much the United
States is involved. Goodman shares, with hundreds of thousands of Americans deployed...domestic

blamed in part on global imbalances . Goodman asserts that it is because of the USA s influences that

Goodman adds, news of the world is becoming more relevant to the day to day experiences of
American readers and it is rapidly disappearing . Due to the lack of foreign news coverage, news is
becoming American based. This is very dangerous because not only does it confine news
organizations to basic and perfunctory stories it blinds Americans to what is really going on in the
world. For example, an American who watches their local news will know about what school just
opened in their neighborhood but nothing about a school that was burned down in a neighboring
country. By limiting foreign news coverage Americans are selfishly hindering themselves from
gaining important knowledge about what is going on around

B. My book was published in 1989

A. The story takes place in 1943 in Germany. The period time is authentic because that is when
Denmark surrendered to Germany in the war. The place is real because germany started the war and
then denmark surrendered to them.
B. Some details that describe the historical period is that they travel around on horses or horse drawn

I think the central conflict is real because in the 1940s the natis were sending families away and most
of the parents had to leave their kid with another family because the war was going on. Also it in that
time there was a lot of Soldiers at every corner of the block so it was unsafe for children to walk home
or be home by themselves.
V.
A. I think the author s purpose of writing this blog was because she wanted to tell the reader what life
was like in the 1940s in Germany and how hard it was to live because of the Nazis.
I think the author chose to write about this particular historical because a lot was going on during the
1940s like the war and the Nazi trying to get rid of the Jews. I also think the author chose to write
about this historical period because She was interested about how she had to live through the war and
through having to take random kids in that they didn t know anything about.
B. I think the theme or Central message is courage but also fear because you need to have courage to
face all the things that would come your way. The theme is also fear because even though you have to
have the courage to get through all those hard times but also you have to have fear because if you don

Luther And The Christian Nobility Of The German Nation
In Martin Luther s To the Christian Nobility of the German Nation, Luther writes to the German
princes on the three walls that the Catholic Church uses to defend themselves from reform. Luther
attacks all three walls for the power it gives to the Pope. His attack of the second wall, that only the
pope can interpret scripture, is a tenant of Luther s theology. The Lutheran belief of Sola Scriptura
holds that only Scripture should be the source of all Christian practices, rather than doctrines declared
by popes or other teaching authorities. While the second wall reflects a legitimate belief of Luther s
theology, Luther writes on this topic to the german nobility because it is politically beneficial towards
himself, his movement, and the princedoms of Germany, not necessarily for religious reasons. These
political motives are illustrated when studying the relationship between the church, the princes, and
the Holy Roman Empire in Germany at the time, Luther s response to the Peasant Revolt of 1525, and
the scholars of The Church at the time.
1 Luther attacks the second wall, that the pope alone can interpret scriptures, by citing scriptures
himself. He says that there is no basis for the pope s power in the Bible, rather, only incidences of the
people s power. The equality of all Christian believers was first stated in the first wall when arguing
that temporal powers should be able to punish those clergy who do wrong, but Luther adds more to
this in the second wall when quoting

Polar Bear Population Analysis
The current management plans for conservation of polar bears appear to be a concerted effort to
protect the species. However, the effectiveness on a global scale is uncertain as to whether diminishing
habitats will wreak havoc on the polar bear populations in the future. The international agreements and
treaties are important as they recognize common goals and strategies given the multiple nations
involved. Most of these agreements are decades old and do not sufficiently protect polar bear
populations that much. They have been important in creating a framework of hunting and developing
restrictions for many of the nations, but there is no clear mechanism to enforce these agreements. As
stated before, the greatest threat to polar bear populations ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
To be effective, these agreements should include an effective form of enforcement, such as an
organizational enforcement authority made up of members from all five nations that have
jurisdictional authority over polar bear preservation. Perhaps something similar to Interpol, but for
wildlife conservation and works directly with governmental enforcement agencies. Such an
international agency could also be used for other conservation efforts for other endangered or
threatened species.
Other components of new international agreements should also address the chief concern for polar
bears. Perhaps this can be another mechanism to assist in promoting the reduction of emissions and
rallying enhanced scientific research objectives to pursue alternative energies between the five Arctic
nations. However, environmental changes affecting the Arctic are not expected to stop in the
immediate future and are fixed for several decades regardless of reductions in emissions and polar
bears must prepare to deal with habitat loss (Laidre, et al., 2015). The sovereignty issue over potential
resources after the ice melts should also be an integral part of these new international agreements.
There should be discussion over restricted industrial development and shipping routes that may affect
polar bears for the future habitat structure of the Arctic

The Class Of African American History
Color You walk into the classroom and it s the most awkward thing ever. You regret the day you
signed up for this class...African American history. But why? Why did everyone inelegantly stare?
Why does your skin color make matters this problematic? It s essential that a class like African
American history becomes more diverse. Most assume that this class is aiming for an African
American audience. This assumption is completely misleading, but most fall the underdog to. The
homogeneity society amongst the students is bare and should be altered.
I m currently enrolled in African American history. I ve noticed there aren t any people outside of the
African American race in the class. The teacher has noticed out of all 9 years he s been teaching the
class, he s had maybe 8 people that weren t African American. I feel there is no imagined community
within this learning space. In Pratt s essay she tells how Benedict Anderson refers to an imagined
community. Anderson s idea of an imagined community is communities exist as imagined entities in
which people will never know most of their fellow members, meet them or even hear of them, yet in
the minds of each other lives the image of their communication (327). All classes are expected to be
diverse and full of divergence. But yet, we re all in some way in which most think is by race, already
in deep relation. The absence of nonconformity leaves a toll on the class, whereas we are interested in
how people from different races feel

The Research Methods Of Internet Articles

few articles that can be found. Some of the articles were written by organisations, some by professors
and some are more like personal blogs. This was not hard to overcome, as stated previously that scab
analysis can be done roughly for each source. It would take too much time to do one for every source,
but generally a trustworthy source can be identified if they have a credible author and the correct
information. To be able to recognise if the information within was correct, multiple websites on the
same topic were opened and compared. This will make sure the source is as reliable as it can be.
Overall internet was extremely helpful in researching. The deep ocean was only explored so much;
there were limited information on what can be found. Internet was a place where the majority of them
gathered. This method of research contributed to most of the references in the final outcome.
The second research method was the email interview with a marine biology professor. The research
question is in the area of marine biology, and a marine biology professor would be best suited for an
interview on this question. This method was chosen because it is a great primary source. Primary
sources are needed in research project to make

Community Dinners
During the year, my church holds community dinners every Friday. It is a time where anyone can
come together and get a free Hotmail, listen to live music, and talk about events going on in the
community. We have meals like spaghetti and garlic bread; chicken, mashed potatoes, and corn; and
tacos. When people are finished with their meal, they are given dessert and have the opportunity to get
seconds. I personally seat everyone and deliver food to them. I have the greatest experience serving
those in need of food, prayer, and a friend. After all the food is served, I sometimes sing and play
piano to give the people eating some entertainment. I sing for about 20 minutes before I start to clean
up. Cleaning takes about two hours. We had a wipe

Native Americans And The Native American Tribe
Different Cultures The Europeans and the Native Americans arguably do not co exist because different
groups did not allow them to be their own tribes. The Europeans treated the Indians with as little
respect as possible. The Indians were used to work including the women and children. The Christians
changed how they were viewed by the Indians because they suffered from beatings and other tragedies
among their tribes. The Native American tribes wanted peace within their groups although they were
fighting with the Europeans and killings between the two cultures occurred. The Indians had people
that were on their side and agreed with their views. Although the Indians where being used as slaves
and treated poorly. The Native Americans and the English did not agree with each other, which
resulted in the Indians land being taken away, being slaves, and the English making the Indians work
for them. The Native Americans were looked as being animals, or evil beings, as well as being seen as
a soul to be saved. In The Navajo Creation Story the Native American tribe wanted the establishment
of harmony and balance among the gods, the People and all the other sentient beings. Especially
important is the attainment of a relationship of harmony and balance between husband and wife. (26)
the Native American tribe wanted to make a living and support their tribe members by gathering and
using resources to create balance within their tribes. The Europeans did not agree with the choices of

Vietnam War Language Analysis
Before the playing of the national anthem at each Bucknell University basketball game at Sojka
Pavilion this season men or women there is a vocal request for unity across the campus and the nation.
Despite the plea, the nation remains divided on cultural, moral and political issues that run parallel to
racial and ethnic lines. Such divisions were evident throughout the three day D.N.C. Atlanta
conference where both Tom Perez and Keith Ellison urged backers to unite and fight President Trump
and not each other.
You could argue that the country is more divided today than at any time since the Vietnam War. In a
survey of news stories over two days, it was difficult not to see why.
In the first of five stories, New Mexico State Senator ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The Unitarian View Of Religion
The author, James B. Torrance writes concerning the distinction between two views of worship. One
of the views of worship is called the Unitarian view. The Unitarian view is the common practice of
several churches. It is considered a religious concept of human wisdom, worship to God. These
concepts include, going to church, singing psalms and hymns to God, interceding for the world, listen
to a sermon, offering money, time and talents to God. After all, these actions of worship are simply
part of traditions, without the substance Jesus Christ s redemption. It is in a sense going through the
motion, without the relevance of the Holy Spirit.
Trinitarian view, on the other hand, is the participation with the Son s communion with the Father.

A Dystopian Future in Brave New World Essay examples
Brave New World is a remarkable journey into the future wherein mankind is dehumanized by the
progress and misuse of technology to the point where society is a laboratory produced race of beings
who are clones devoid of identity only able to worship the three things they have been preconditioned
to love: Henry Ford, their idol; Soma, a wonder drug; and sex (Dusterhoof, Guynn, Patterson, Shaw,
Wroten and Yuhasz 1). The misuse of perfected technologies, especially those allowing the
manipulation of the human brain and genes, have created a pleasure seeking world where there is no
such thing as spiritual experience, just pleasures of the flesh. In the face of a transcendent religion, the

Regardless of the progress of technology, the real issue is not the capabilities and potential uses of
new sciences. The real issue, as it is in Brave New World, is that there will always exist those who use
new technologies for personal gain, evil pursuits and as an attempt to maintain power and control (like
the State does in Brave New World). The ideal concept may be a state of stability that it unchanging,
but this comes from our own internal dichotomy between a need for stability and the conflict with the
instability of being real. No state has ever achieved such a stable condition in the history of mankind
anyway, Historically, no actual political state has ever achieved stability and only a very few have
approximated it...Even so this is the aim for which all politicians and political states plan (Firchow
85). Therefore, even though we have the power to splice and locate genes that will modify human
characteristics and behavior (like manipulating a baby s sex or sexuality), who would choose to allow
this power in only the hands of a few, powerful interests? What would stop powerful white monied
interests from trying to rid society of supposed undesirables like blacks, Hispanics, homosexuals or
even women? After all, by being able to breed children outside of the womb, some men may feel their
truly useful purpose is achievable without them. Some contend that no loss of humanity is involved in

A Separate Peace Tree
A tree in John Knowles s A Separate Peace, symbolizes the true strengths and weaknesses of two boys
relationship during World War Two. This specific tree really corresponds with what is doing on with
the two boys relationship. When the tree is big and strong the boy s relationship is really thriving.
Once the tree starts to lose branches and weakens the two boy s relationship starts to weaken as well.
Which is implemented all over the book with weak moments in their relationship and strengths. In the
first chapter, Finny and Gene s relationship is strong and this is represented by the healthy tree branch
they and the other boys jump off of into the lake. Gene is not normally the type of person to just jump
out of a tree, but he is willing to because of his trust in Finny. Despite his own fear, Gene trusts Finny
enough to jump. Gene says, With the sensation that I was throwing my life away, I jumped into space
(17). This demonstrates that the trust between the two boys is very strong because Gene is willing to
do things that he is not comfortable with. Since Finny was there by his side he has no problem doing
it. Gene and Finny s relationship is able to thrive when it is healthy like the tree branch that they jump

Augustine Of Hippo ( 354-430 )
Augustine of Hippo (354 430) was a North African man who took an extremely tumultuous path to
sainthood. In his early years, he led a crazy and immoral lifestyle. A driven professor of rhetoric,
Augustine s had lofty worldly goals and a weak sense of conscience. His intense drive to be successful
would later create a major problem for him when trying to fully give his life to God. At an early age,
Augustine began thinking his mother s strong sense of Christianity was too uneducated for him.
Because he was used to his scholarly readings, he found the Bible to be written in an extremely
unsophisticated way. This, along with questions behind the truth of the Old Testament, led him to
convert to Manichaean beliefs as a young man. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Because of his dealings with Faustus, Augustine learns an important lesson that content is more
important than delivery when looking for spiritual truth. During Augustine s time as a Manichaean, he
converses with Faustus, a North African sage who is known to be extremely persuasive in Manichaean
beliefs. This takes place when Augustine is in Carthage at age twenty nine. Augustine truly admires
his eloquence in speaking, and he was delighted by the force and feeling he brought to his discourse
(Confessions V.vi.11). He is also impressed by Faustus modesty because of the fact that Faustus will
readily admit his lack of knowledge in certain subjects and won t proceed in an argument or
explanation unless he has sufficient knowledge. However, Augustine realizes that this lack of training
in liberal arts that Faustus exhibits leads to his inability to sufficiently answer the questions that
Augustine has about certain Manichaean beliefs (V.vii.12). Augustine is one of the few people that is
able to see through Faustus articulate and educated speech and realize that the content is lacking.
Because of this, Faustus, who had been for many a snare of death (Ps. 17:6), without his will or
knowledge had begun to loosen the bond by which [Augustine] had been captured (V.vii.13).

Events Leading up to World War I
March through April, 1914 in Germany there was an increasing agitation for war (cnparm). The
German Army opens an anti Russian Press campaign on the 11th and 22nd of March, a German
newspaper predicts that a war, the like of which history has never seen, is approaching (cnparm). In
April, the influential Pan German League warns that France and Russia are preparing for the decisive
struggle with Germany and Austria Hungary and they intend to strike at the first opportunity (cnparm).
When May arrives, the last pre war staff talks take place between German Chief of Staff Helmuth von
Moltke and the Austro Hungarian General Chief of Staff Franz Baron Conrad von Hoetzendorf, both
decided the commanders both desire a preventive war (cnparm). The events of July and early August
1914 played a very important role in the possibility of a world war, and Germany played an important
role in these events. Imperialism, with Wilhelmine Weltpolitik as its specifically German version,
provided the general framework and the basic tensions; the principle of national self determination
constituted, with its revolutionary potential, a permanent but latent threat ti the old dynastic Empires
and built up tensions in south east Europe (July1914). The determination of the German Empire, then
the most powerful conservative and monarchic principles by any means against the rising flood of
democracy, plus its Weltpolitik, made war inevitable (July 1914). The July Crisis of 1914 was a

The Russo Japanese war began on February 8th, 1904 when the Japanese launched a surprise attack on

Roosevelt. The war had a substantial effect on both of its participants, the Russians and the Japanese,

1898 the Chinese and Russians finally negotiated a convention after three months by which china
would lease to Russia Port Arthur in Talianwan, a tremendously strategic point which would be Russia
s sole warm water port on the coast of the pacific, and its surrounding waters. Immediately after their
agreement, Russia took no time in occupying the Port. A year later, Russia began to build the southern
Manchurian railroad to further consolidate their position at Port Arthur. The building of the railroad
led to be one of the causes of the Boxer rebellion. Because of the Boxer rebellion, the uprising of a

Drama Of The Tragicomedy Genre
Drama of the Tragicomedy Genre
Tragicomedy is a sophisticated drama that incorporates both tragic and comic elements. On the
surface, comedy and tragedy seem to be complete polar opposites of each other, but both of them are
very strong and in combination evoke a specific, or a range of emotions. In modern tragicomedy, this
variety of feelings became a focal point in major of dramas and a synonym to an absurd. Especially,
with the advent of realism into genre, comic aspect evolves into irony and farce, and tragedy seems
more devastating (Tragicomedy). In a play The Cherry Orchard, Anton Chekhov demonstrates many
themes including childishness, clinging to the past, and hypocrisy of humans. Chekhov depicts the
conflict between the necessity for change and the nostalgia for the past, which establish controversial
emotions throughout the play; the internal drama of everyone appears more important than external
events. In comparison with Chekhov, Athol Fugard in his play Master Harold ... and the boys
demonstrates racism, nostalgia and injustice. Fugard uses the conflict in present to point out the
external conflict of African society that creates a strong feeling of tragedy rather than tragicomedy. As
a modern playwright, Anton Chekhov perceives tragicomedy as a visible discrepancy and essence by
using a variety of characters that creates a chaos, however, Athol Fugard uses dramaturgy to present
his insights about the social and political environment at the time in a

Synthesis Of Basal Ganglia
In terms of motor control, the basal ganglia is composed of interconnected nuclei located in the
telencephalon, diencephalon, and midbrain which include the striatum, globus pallidus (GP),
entopeduncular nucleus (globus pallidus internal in humans), subthalamic nucleus, and the substantia
nigra (figure1) (6,8). Although there are multiple structures that partake in the modulation of
movement, the basal ganglia serves to integrate information deriving from the parietal, frontal, and
temporal cortex. In particular, electrical stimulation from the cortex to the striatum derive from
regions implicated in the planning and execution of motor movement (6). All of this information
converges and activates GABAergic medium spiny neurons (9). Of note, ... Show more content on

It has been demonstrated that altered activity of pallidal neurons evoke irregular signaling patterns of
dopaminergic neurons, which in turn may cause a shift in signaling rates to the stiatum and its
activating role of the indirect pathway (7). Interestingly, axonal collaterals from the substantia nigra
pars compacta also provide innervation to the globus pallidus through dopaminergic signaling
(5,1,13). The literature suggests that activation of dopamionergic receptors in the globus pallidus play
an important regulatory role of GABAergic activity. Therefore, stimulation of dopaminergic receptors
is also involved in the modulation of pallidal firing. The depletion of dopaminergic stimulation in the
pallidus suggests a potential role in PD motor deficits and correlation with symptoms such as tremors
and dyskenisia (1,2) .Interestingly, experiments conducted in non human primates have demonstrated
that a decrease in dopaminergic inputs to the globus pallidus, due to degeneration of dopaminergic
neurons in the substantia nigra pars compacta, triggered irregular firing patterns (1,4); however, the
precise role of these dopaminergic projections that cross and directly innervate the GP in parkinsonian
physiopathology is not clear

Trial By Jury Essay
A Jury plays a necessary part in the criminal justice system in England and Wales. Trial by jury is one
of the ways that could be useful for reaching justice in the courts. The jury has 12 citizens who are
chosen randomly from different genders and different ages. (The Guardian, 2005) the jurors work is to
help the judge to a make decision about the case so the lawyers show them the evidence and anything
related to the case and then the jurors will try to make the right judgment whether the criminal is
guilty or not. People argue that they want the trial without the jury system because it is not fair enough
and there are other reasons such as the jurors do not have enough experience, jury system is not fairest
form of justice, they do not represent the society and jury ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For instance, the juror could take bribe from the criminal to be in his or hers side. An example can be
mentioned here is the case of Vybz Kartel. According to AP NEWS (2013) there was a male juror
arrested because he tried to bribe the jury foreman to release Vybz Kartel (BBC NEWS 2014).
However, the chance of being corrupted for the jury is less than the judge. For example, it is difficult
to have 12 corrupted jurors as well as even the judge can be corrupted. According to BBC NEWS
(2013), the judge Akil Mochtar has been arrested regarding acceptance of taking a bribe of £154,000.
Finally, there is an argument confirmed that, the jury system cost too much money. So to clarify this
argument Brian Kelly in the BBC NEWS mentioned that, the jury trial costs more than £8,000 per day.
Also Guy Hammond from the BBC NEWS said, I realise that the court system is costing taxpayers
millions so it is cost too much money (BBC NEWS ,2001). However, the argument against this say
that the high cost of the jury system is the price of the justice so it does not matter how much it will

The Things They Carried ( 10 )
The Things They Carried (10).
The things they carried were largely determined by necessity. Among the necessities or near
necessities were P 38 can openers, pocket knives, heat tabs, wristwatches, dog tags, mosquito
repellent, chewing gum, candy, cigarettes, salt tablets, packets of Kool Aid, lighters, matches, sewing
kits, Military Payment Certificates, C rations, and two or three canteens of water (11).
As PFCs or Spec 4s, most of them were common grunts and carried the standard M 16 gas operated
assault rifle. The weapon weighed 7.5 pounds unloaded, 8.2 pounds with its full 20 round magazine.
Depending on numerous factors, such as topography and psychology, the riflemen carried anywhere
from 12 to 20 magazines, usually in cloth bandoliers, adding on another 8.4 pounds at minimum, 14
pounds at maximum (13).

How Is Figurative Language Used In The Odyssey
In The Odyssey, Homer emphasizes revenge throughout the text, as it progresses an endless cycle of
characters harming each other because of the wrong inflicted to others. He employs figurative
language, word choice, and dialogue to describe the vengeance between characters.
To start, vivid figurative language elements are used to depict the violence aspect of revenge as
Odysseus kills the suitors one by one. Dramatic similes and imagery are used to when the passage
describes, Backward and down he went, letting the winecup fall from his shocked hand. Like pipes his
nostrils jetted crimson runnels, a river of mortal red, (22.17 20). The two components help portray the
victimization of Odysseus retaliation through a detailed description Antinoos ... Show more content on

To start, when the suitors rant, they claim, Telemachus had the gall to make that crossing, though we
said he could not. So the young cub... puts to sea. (4.710 713). Homer s selection of the word gall
helps portray the angry suitors feelings. From having Telemachus place blame on them and set out to
search for his father, their frustrated tone also implies that they are not content. This selection may
lead one to foreshadow that the group is likely to take vengeful action. In addition, the men say, What
devilment will he be up to next time? Zeus blast the life out of him before he s grown! (4.714).
Similarly, the word devilment is chosen to describe how the vindictive suitors view Telemachus
apparent reckless mischief. Homer s utilization of the phrase helps readers to understand how the
suitors characterize their enemy. In the sentence, He had been outside the wall, and heard them in the
court conspiring, (4.725 727) the verb conspiring alludes to the secretive plans of the suitors. More
importantly, the word typically has a negative connotation to it. Homer s intricate decision to use it

  • 2. Essay on Bracero Program The Bracero Program The Bracero Program was a temporary contract labor program initiated in 1942 by the United States and Mexico. Designed originally to bring a experienced Mexican agricultural laborers to harvest sugar beets in Stockton, California, but soon spread to most of the United States and to the railroad industry. Although the railroad program ended in 1945, after World War II the agricultural program continued until 1964. Originally, the program was designed to protect the illegal migrant workers against the exploitation by American farmers. However, it was criticized and was viewed as a failure from the humanitarian point of view. Workers in the Bracero Program continued to face struggles with the United States and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The United States wielded the power of negotiations with both the Mexican government and the Mexican people. Mexico lost all real bargaining power in the 1950 s. Along with opposition from Cesar Chavez and Dolores Huerta, the United States determined that the program was no longer vital to the American s; it discontinued the program in 1964. Chavez and Huerta fought the program because it undermined American workers and exploited the migrant workers. Nothing says it more obvious than the account from Walt Edwards (as cited in Dillin, 2006), When we caught illegal aliens on farms and ranches, the farmer or rancher would often call and complain [to officials in El Paso]. And depending on how politically connected they were, there would be political intervention. That is how we got into this mess we are in now. (Dillin, John, 2006) By the end of the program, farm labor unions began to form which eventually led to the abolishment of laws stating it was illegal to organize farm labor. This lead the way to the grape strikes in California and the boycotts in stores, lead by Filipino farm workers. After the first strike several various organizations began to form and led similar movements around the country. Through the 1960s to the 1980s, Cesar Chavez was a major inspiration to such movements and organizations. One of the most notable protests was when Chavez and the UFW marched from the Coachella Valley to the Mexican ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Pros And Cons Of Eugenics Eugenics, developed by an eminent scientist, Francis Galton, is the science of improving the qualities of the human species or a human population by controlling breeding to increase the occurrence of desirable heritable characteristic traits and decrease the occurrence of undesirable characteristic traits or genetical defects (Bergman, 2000.) Eugenic sterilization refers to the involuntary sterilization of certain categories of individuals without their need for consent by those subjected to the procedure (Pozgar, 2012, Pg. 411.) Individuals classified as mentally deficient, feeble minded, epileptic, promiscuous, sexual deviants, or persons classified as habitual criminals were mainly targeted (Pozgar, 2012, Pg. 411.) Eugenicists argued degenerate traits tainted society through the reproduction of the lowest class and sterilization was to keep the handicapped from perpetuating themselves (Kaelber, 2014.) In addition, eugenicists also argued that feeble minded individuals were believed to be financial burdens to society by overcrowding prisons, hospitals and living off welfare (Kaelber, 2014.) Sterilization was seen as a way to prevent the spending of tax dollars on the feeble minded (Kaelber, 2014.) These arguments allowed Eugenics to become an acceptable practice. Advocates believed that getting rid of the feeble minded and mentally deficient would decrease the undesirable characteristic traits within the human gene pool and ultimately improve the human population. ... • 5. Depressed Employees Managing Depressed Part time Employees Fair remuneration and favorable job design are positively linked to higher productivity and satisfaction in employees. Employees may lack motivation to work if they perceive that the pay structure in an organization is largely unfavorable to their interests. Income inequality in organizations or industries often leads to stress and depression due to the high cost of living and perceived unfairness. Depressed employees are less productive at work due to their lack of concentration, low motivation, and antisocial behaviors. It is important for any supervisor to develop appropriate mechanisms to effectively handle depression in employees. I would adopt a transformational leadership style in managing activities of the subordinates. Transformational leadership allows a leader to be in close contact with his/her followers to understand their fears, aspirations and personal challenges. Employees develop emotional ties and a sense of unity with an organization that understands and supports them. Through such a leadership approach, it will be possible for me to work jointly with employees in developing job designs that suit the interests of the organization and the workers. As a result, employees will ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However, due to financial constraints and unfavorable economic conditions, businesses cannot always rely on pay and attractive job designs to motivate employees. As a supervisor of depressed part time employees, I would consider using a personalized, transformational leadership model in understanding my employees and responding to their needs. I would communicate regularly with my employees in a friendly way to offer encouragement and motivation at work. I would also work closely with employees and the management to reward and recognize hardworking employees with permanent jobs and career advancement ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

After reviewing the chapter for a second time there were a few nuggets that stood out to the reader, nuggets that would be very beneficial to be mindful of when assisting family businesses with transitions and changes. As stated last week the Godrej Group provides four characteristics of a family firm that will help protect the sources of their past success and at the same time, seek needed innovation. (Schuman, A., Stutz, S., Ward, J.L. 2012, p. 38). This concept includes the complex successor dilemmas. This component was best summarized by a quote from Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh which states Change does not change tradition. It strengthens it. Change is a ... For the 2nd generation the family business is more family focused. The paradoxes that arise are often regarding whether the revenues should be used to give family members larger salaries or update equipment. The 3rd generation is often more business focus, but it s focus is extremely different from G1. This third generation is often searching for way to include all the members of the founding family and their unique skill sets to expand the brand, oversee the philanthropy activities and handle other areas of the family business besides production. The reading shows that the family priorities for G1 is roots and wings, for G2 is work and home, and for G3 is loyalty and freedom. • 7. Moral Dilemma In Football Moral Dilemma When I entered freshman year at Sacred Heart Cathedral, I knew that I wanted to try and experiment with things I had never done before. Something I had always had an interest in was playing football. All the movies and stories portray football a great to build a brotherhood with your teammates, and I liked that. The whole idea of playing as one team with a common goal to succeed sounded great to me. In the past, I had played many other team sports like soccer, baseball, and basketball, but I always had the idea that football was the ultimate team sport. You must rely on and have complete trust in your ten other teammates who are out on the field with you. Football really emphasizes the, There s no I in team saying. All these ideas made me want to start playing football greatly, but there were some hesitations. Since the beginning of football, it has always been thought of as a very dangerous sport with extreme risk of injury. This idea was constantly in the back of my mind, that I could get hurt and be messed up for the rest of my life. I have heard numeros stories and known people that have had serious injuries. Football helmets and pads are constantly being updated to protect the players as much as possible. New rules about tackling and head on head contact have been regularly implemented as well. Even with these means to protect players, with every play there is always bigger risk than most other sports. My entire life could be shaped from one football ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. Kant s Philosophy on the Metaphysical World Explained in... In the Critique of Pure Reason, philosopher Immanuel Kant aims to thoroughly explain his philosophy of the metaphysical world. Within the Transcendental Aesthetic, Kant focuses on confirming that space and time are a priori intuitions. He provides reasoning and arguments as to why they are transcendentally ideal but empirically real, making space and time subjectively necessary for experiences. Simultaneously, Kant distinguishes space and time from secondary qualities, which belong to our senses through experience, by confirming that unlike space and time, secondary qualities are not empirically real. Kant does run into conflicts with his theory, he still successfully claims that space and time are transcendentally ideal but empirically real, as well as distinguish them from secondary qualities by supporting his theories with reasoning. Kant s theory of transcendental idealism states that human beings only experience appearances and not things in themselves (Rohlf). Space and time are transcendentally ideal because they allow us to perceive things in themselves. This means that space and time are only forms in which properties of objects appear and not properties of things in themselves. Therefore, space and time are not self subsistent and nor are they substances that have properties. Kant draws two conclusions for space and three conclusions for time. In conclusion (a), Kant states that space and time do not have properties of things in themselves (A26/B42). He also ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

His career grew with the development of classical style and forms, with the symphony, sonata, string quartet, and other instrumental forms, in the moulding of which he played an important part. Joseph Haydn was born in Rohrau in 1732, the son of a wheelwright, he trained as a chorister at St. Stephen s Cathedral in Vienna, where he made an early living. He worked as a freelance musician, playing the violin and the keyboard instruments, accompanying for singing lessons given by the composer Porpora, who helped and encouraged him ( Boynick, 1). Among the operas from this period are Lo speziale, L infedelta delusa and II mondo della luna. Haydn s job was to prepare the music, adapting or arranging it for the voices of the resident singers. In 1779 the opera house burnt down; Haydn composed La fedelta premiata for its reopening in 1781 (Boynick, 2). Until then his operas has largely been comic genres; his last two for Esterhaza, Orlando paladino (1782) and Armida (1783), are mixed or serious genres (Boynick, 2). Haydn s reputation had now grown and was international. Much of his music had been published in all the main European centres; under a revised contract with the Esterhaza his employer no longer had exclusive rights to his music (Boynick, 2). His work in the 1780s included symphonies, piano trios, piano sonatas, and string quartets. His influential op.33 quartets, issued in 1782, were said to be in a quite new, special manner: this is sometimes thought to refer to the use of instruments or the style of thematic development, but could refer to the introduction of Scherzos or mighty simply be an advertising device (Hughes, 36). • 10. Character And Suffering Aspects Of The Play Oedipus Rex Oedipus Rex is a play that works on extremes. First of all, Oedipus, the protagonist of the play inadvertently kills father, Laius and performs the act of incest with his mother Jocasta. He lives in ignorance until his deeds necessitates consequences which is when Thebes is in turmoil. The tension that is built throughout the play goes through a cathartic moment when Oedipus goes on a self imposed exile. Aristotle uses this play to show how it meets the requirements of being an ideal triagedy. Aristotle, provides many requirements, but for the purpose of this essay I will be focusing on the plot, character and suffering aspects of the play. Aristotle asserts that in a tragedy that the plot must contain a certain magnitude is necessary, and a magnitude which may be easily embraced in one view . In essence, what Aristotle is stating is that there must be an intensity in a plot, a universal truth which readers can relate or resonate to. One of which is man s search for truth. Upon meeting Odysseus Teiresias, the blind prophet, that the ...The truth within me makes me strong (424 425). Teiresias also discusses with Oedipus that the truth is of no value to him. It is inferred from the quote that there is a certain power, or strength that comes from truth, but since the truth which is he knows is of no value to him, because it does not pertain to him. • 11. Shiloh, By Bobbie Ann Mason Shiloh , by Bobbie Ann Mason, explores an interesting theme, the distinct parallel between the surface level of what the events of the story are, and the meaning underneath. This parallel is seen throughout the story, from the start when Leroy Moffitt is building craft kits for at first just to pass time, while Norma Jean is lifting weights and working at a Rexall drugstore for the same reason; To later on when Norma says she doesn t know what she s talking about and Leroy thinks that the way to saving his marriage is to come up with a last minute idea. The story engages the theme of the parallel levels through the unstable marriage of Leroy and Norma Jean. The theme of this parallel is shown overtly through the images, descriptions, and characterizations of the log cabins in the story, and of Shiloh. Interestingly, the characters and the world they live in are stuck on the surface, shown through how both Leroy and Norma Jean drift on subjects, and through the names in the story. Norma Jean and Leroy s marriage shows an insight on the theme in action because of how their lack of understanding the inner workings of marriage, which causes them to drift apart and eventually separate. One of the most important things in marriage is the ability to communicate, but neither of them are able to do so on a meaningful level. An example of this is when Norma Jean starts to explain why she wants to leave him, then as she walks away she takes back what she said, adding No, it ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Examples Of Dystopian Society In 1984 Dystopian Societies People do not realize the dystopian environment they have grown into and cannot imagine life s wonderful opportunistic world outside of which they live in. These people are deceived from life s real richness and true happiness. In the novel 1984, Winston is trapped in an oppressive lifestyle and cannot think freely without having a fear of the government vaporizing him. Similarly, the KKK provides an inhuman and tyrannical environment towards those not of the white race. This can be seen in 1984, as the government s political figure, Big Brother, provides protection and comfort to the citizens. Big Brother can be seen all across the city on posters and is frequently talked about between the people of Oceania. Big brother assures safety and happiness to the citizens as well as Winston towards the end of the novel, But it was all right, everything was all right, the struggle was finished. He had won the victory over himself. He loved Big Brother (Orwell 298). This shows how Winston thinks about the possible dangers his family was in and how tough it was for them. After, pondering about this subject for some time, he comes to the realization that he does not need to be sad because Big Brother is always watching over him. Winston, along with many of the others, feel that Big Brother is always watching them, which gives them a sense of safety and security in the way that they do not have anything to worry about. Another example of how Oceania can be looked at as a utopia is how no crime ever occurs within their society and country. This is proven in the fact that anyone who tries or have attempted to rebel against the government have been vaporized and the history of their existence has been completely changed. This can be seen when Winston questions his job of editing Oceania s history, And the Records Department, after all, was itself only a single branch of the Ministry of Truth, whose primary job was not to reconstruct the past but to supply the citizens of Oceania with newspapers, films, textbooks, telescreen programs, plays, novels (Orwell 42 43). This shows how everyone in 1984 does not have a reason to be upset. This is simply because all of the negativity and rebellious acts have been removed from their history. History 313 Prof Gorman 4/4/16 Discrimination in the north (African American) One of the most dramatic demographic events that had a significant change in America would be the Great Migration. It had to do with the moving of 6 million of African American from the southern hemisphere of the united states to the northern hemisphere around the time of the 20th century. To better explain this event in American history it would be best to start with the chain of events that caused it in the first place. That starting point would have to be the Emancipation Proclamation of 1863. This was an announcement that was laid out to say that if any state if not by the start of the 1863 that is in rebellion would have all there slaves declared free if they did not reunite back with America. Abraham Lincoln, being the president at this time, pushed this through because would have hurt and reduce the South s capacity to start a war by encouraging and threatening that their slaves would leave the southern lines and come to America s. Once the slave would come and join America they would be enlisted into the army and fight against the south. This defiantly was the most important and first act done to help Africans in America because it helped bring up the idea of freed slaves, but this was only done as a war measure because slave was at that time very essential to the South s war effort and did not have helping and freeing slaves as the main idea. Usually it keeps one up to date with many things that are going on in society. However, recently America has faced a downfall in the reporting of foreign news. As Americans there is a need for an increased amount of foreign coverage because there are many worldly issues we must know about, news networks are beginning to focus only on the everyday life of Americans, and the internet (specifically, social media) is slowly taking away the reality and realness of international news. • 17. Luther And The Christian Nobility Of The German Nation In Martin Luther s To the Christian Nobility of the German Nation, Luther writes to the German princes on the three walls that the Catholic Church uses to defend themselves from reform. Luther attacks all three walls for the power it gives to the Pope. His attack of the second wall, that only the pope can interpret scripture, is a tenant of Luther s theology. The Lutheran belief of Sola Scriptura holds that only Scripture should be the source of all Christian practices, rather than doctrines declared by popes or other teaching authorities. While the second wall reflects a legitimate belief of Luther s theology, Luther writes on this topic to the german nobility because it is politically beneficial towards himself, his movement, and the princedoms of Germany, not necessarily for religious reasons. These political motives are illustrated when studying the relationship between the church, the princes, and the Holy Roman Empire in Germany at the time, Luther s response to the Peasant Revolt of 1525, and the scholars of The Church at the time. 1 Luther attacks the second wall, that the pope alone can interpret scriptures, by citing scriptures himself. He says that there is no basis for the pope s power in the Bible, rather, only incidences of the people s power. The equality of all Christian believers was first stated in the first wall when arguing that temporal powers should be able to punish those clergy who do wrong, but Luther adds more to this in the second wall when quoting ... Psycho-American War The Russo Japanese war began on February 8th, 1904 when the Japanese launched a surprise attack on the Russian fleet and ended September 5th, 1905 with the treaty of Portsmouth led by Theodore Roosevelt. The war had a substantial effect on both of its participants, the Russians and the Japanese, but first this essay will talk about the events leading up to it, such as the Russian encroachment. In 1898 the Chinese and Russians finally negotiated a convention after three months by which china would lease to Russia Port Arthur in Talianwan, a tremendously strategic point which would be Russia s sole warm water port on the coast of the pacific, and its surrounding waters. Immediately after their agreement, Russia took no time in occupying the Port. A year later, Russia began to build the southern Manchurian railroad to further consolidate their position at Port Arthur. The building of the railroad led to be one of the causes of the Boxer rebellion. Because of the Boxer rebellion, the uprising of a secret organization in china against the spread of western and Japanese influence there, the Russians and Japanese had both contributed troops along with Britain, Austria Hungary, The United States, India, Germany, France, and Italy to quell the uprisings and to relieve the international ligations under siege in ... • 32. Drama Of The Tragicomedy Genre Drama of the Tragicomedy Genre Tragicomedy is a sophisticated drama that incorporates both tragic and comic elements. On the surface, comedy and tragedy seem to be complete polar opposites of each other, but both of them are very strong and in combination evoke a specific, or a range of emotions. In modern tragicomedy, this variety of feelings became a focal point in major of dramas and a synonym to an absurd. Especially, with the advent of realism into genre, comic aspect evolves into irony and farce, and tragedy seems more devastating (Tragicomedy). In a play The Cherry Orchard, Anton Chekhov demonstrates many themes including childishness, clinging to the past, and hypocrisy of humans. Chekhov depicts the conflict between the necessity for change and the nostalgia for the past, which establish controversial emotions throughout the play; the internal drama of everyone appears more important than external events. In comparison with Chekhov, Athol Fugard in his play Master Harold ... and the boys demonstrates racism, nostalgia and injustice. Fugard uses the conflict in present to point out the external conflict of African society that creates a strong feeling of tragedy rather than tragicomedy. As a modern playwright, Anton Chekhov perceives tragicomedy as a visible discrepancy and essence by using a variety of characters that creates a chaos, however, Athol Fugard uses dramaturgy to present his insights about the social and political environment at the time in a ... • 33. Synthesis Of Basal Ganglia In terms of motor control, the basal ganglia is composed of interconnected nuclei located in the telencephalon, diencephalon, and midbrain which include the striatum, globus pallidus (GP), entopeduncular nucleus (globus pallidus internal in humans), subthalamic nucleus, and the substantia nigra (figure1) (6,8). Although there are multiple structures that partake in the modulation of movement, the basal ganglia serves to integrate information deriving from the parietal, frontal, and temporal cortex. In particular, electrical stimulation from the cortex to the striatum derive from regions implicated in the planning and execution of motor movement (6). All of this information converges and activates GABAergic medium spiny neurons (9). Of note, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It has been demonstrated that altered activity of pallidal neurons evoke irregular signaling patterns of dopaminergic neurons, which in turn may cause a shift in signaling rates to the stiatum and its activating role of the indirect pathway (7). Interestingly, axonal collaterals from the substantia nigra pars compacta also provide innervation to the globus pallidus through dopaminergic signaling (5,1,13). The literature suggests that activation of dopamionergic receptors in the globus pallidus play an important regulatory role of GABAergic activity. Therefore, stimulation of dopaminergic receptors is also involved in the modulation of pallidal firing. The depletion of dopaminergic stimulation in the pallidus suggests a potential role in PD motor deficits and correlation with symptoms such as tremors and dyskenisia (1,2) .Interestingly, experiments conducted in non human primates have demonstrated that a decrease in dopaminergic inputs to the globus pallidus, due to degeneration of dopaminergic neurons in the substantia nigra pars compacta, triggered irregular firing patterns (1,4); however, the precise role of these dopaminergic projections that cross and directly innervate the GP in parkinsonian physiopathology is not clear ... • 38. Trial By Jury Essay A Jury plays a necessary part in the criminal justice system in England and Wales. Trial by jury is one of the ways that could be useful for reaching justice in the courts. The jury has 12 citizens who are chosen randomly from different genders and different ages. (The Guardian, 2005) the jurors work is to help the judge to a make decision about the case so the lawyers show them the evidence and anything related to the case and then the jurors will try to make the right judgment whether the criminal is guilty or not. People argue that they want the trial without the jury system because it is not fair enough and there are other reasons such as the jurors do not have enough experience, jury system is not fairest form of justice, they do not represent the society and jury ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For instance, the juror could take bribe from the criminal to be in his or hers side. An example can be mentioned here is the case of Vybz Kartel. According to AP NEWS (2013) there was a male juror arrested because he tried to bribe the jury foreman to release Vybz Kartel (BBC NEWS 2014). However, the chance of being corrupted for the jury is less than the judge. For example, it is difficult to have 12 corrupted jurors as well as even the judge can be corrupted. According to BBC NEWS (2013), the judge Akil Mochtar has been arrested regarding acceptance of taking a bribe of £154,000. Finally, there is an argument confirmed that, the jury system cost too much money. So to clarify this argument Brian Kelly in the BBC NEWS mentioned that, the jury trial costs more than £8,000 per day. Also Guy Hammond from the BBC NEWS said, I realise that the court system is costing taxpayers millions so it is cost too much money (BBC NEWS ,2001). How Is Figurative Language Used In The Odyssey In The Odyssey, Homer emphasizes revenge throughout the text, as it progresses an endless cycle of characters harming each other because of the wrong inflicted to others. He employs figurative language, word choice, and dialogue to describe the vengeance between characters. To start, vivid figurative language elements are used to depict the violence aspect of revenge as Odysseus kills the suitors one by one. Dramatic similes and imagery are used to when the passage describes, Backward and down he went, letting the winecup fall from his shocked hand. To start, when the suitors rant, they claim, Telemachus had the gall to make that crossing, though we said he could not. So the young cub... puts to sea. (4.710 713). Homer s selection of the word gall helps portray the angry suitors feelings. From having Telemachus place blame on them and set out to search for his father, their frustrated tone also implies that they are not content. This selection may lead one to foreshadow that the group is likely to take vengeful action. In addition, the men say, What devilment will he be up to next time? Zeus blast the life out of him before he s grown! (4.714). Similarly, the word devilment is chosen to describe how the vindictive suitors view Telemachus apparent reckless mischief. Homer s utilization of the phrase helps readers to understand how the suitors characterize their enemy. In the sentence, He had been outside the wall, and heard them in the court conspiring, (4.725 727) the verb conspiring alludes to the secretive plans of the suitors.
