Feminist Icon Betty Friedan Testified
On January 29th, 1970, feminist icon Betty Friedan testified before the Senate Judicial committee to
protest the appointment of Judge George Harrold Carswell to Supreme Court
Justice. With this testimony, Friedan hoped to persuade the committee to reject Carswell s nomination.
In her testimony, Friedan was clear, concise, and effective. Friedan employed many different
techniques to provide examples and backings for her assertions. Within the first few sentences of her
speech, the activist establishes credibility and states her reason for being there. As president of the
National Organization of Women, known informally as N.O.W., Betty Friedan speaks out against the
discrimination against women in the employment, education, and in all ... Show more content on

Friedan also uses statistics to remind the court that 4.1 million mothers in the working force have
children under the age of six and that they comprise 38.9 percent of the nearly 10.6 million mothers in
the labor force today (Friedan). The activist continues to use evidential elements and statistics in her
testimony, stating for every mother of children who worked in 1940, ten mothers are working today,
an increase from slightly over 1.5 million to nearly 11 million (Friedan). Friedan also makes point that
a man applying for the same position would not be denied because he was father to pre school aged
children. The use factual evidence makes many of Friedan s assertions irrefutable and provides solid
backing for her case against Carswell. However, Friedan does not just use factual evidence. The
activist also appeals to emotions in her testimony, and although this may not be the most effective tool
against her targeted audience, it does give her backing beyond the factual. Friedan asks the committee
to place themselves in the shoes of those she fights for, and asks for empathy. To paraphrase, Friedan
asks them to imagine themselves being denied for reelection, or applying for a job at a company or
law firm or university and being told they are ineligible simply because they had a child (Friedan).
After painting this picture for the committee, Friedan hits back with a question, asking then how do
you feel about appointing to the Supreme Court a man who has said

Common Core State Standards ( Ccss )
Common Core State Standards (CCSS) is a widely debatable topic. Parents, teachers, administration,
and even states have taken a stance on what they believe. CCSS is a document created by researchers,
teachers, administration, and even the public, stating exactly what each student in grades K 12 should
be accomplishing by the end of each level. It is ideally in place for teachers to have a clear
understanding of what students are expected to achieve and know by each benchmark test so they can
ensure this readiness. Though much thought and exertion has gone into the production and
implementation of these standards, many myths have been formulated from them, causing the
standards to sound as if they do not have any advantage to our schools ( Understanding the Common
Core ). Adopting common standards means bringing all states standards down to the lowest common
denominator. This means that states with high standards are actually taking a step backwards by
adopting the Common Core ( Utah Core Standards ). This is one of the biggest myths that branch from
common core. While this does seem reasonable to believe, it is false. The creators of the criteria
looked at the current standards nationally and globally to compose a list from the highest benchmarks
available. The new standards not only bring the lower states up, but those with the highest
expectations for their students have to bring their schooling to the next level with Common Core in
place. This provides the assurance

Copyright And Licensing Of Art
Copyright and Licensing explained.
No artwork exhibited in an open display is invulnerable; anytime an artwork becomes known, it is
predisposed to relative alterations, falsifications, and reuse by other artists. Countless art movements
are fashioned around the revision of earlier works and representations. As an artist, one must accept
the unavoidable fact that one day there will probably be alterations to their artwork.
Once the great Pablo Picasso argued that: Bad artists copy. Good artists steal . In this essay it will be
explained the rules governing the copyright and licensing. The emphasis of this essay will be also
focusing on what are the steps to follow to grant a license to a third party in order to make it liable to
use my work of art, that in this case will be an image from one of my paintings.
The existence of copyright is indispensable especially aiming on intellectual property rights in art, and
whether it must be used not simply to protect the truth of the artist but moreover to encourage future
creativeness in the art industry. The meaning of copyright is the sole rights to generate copies and to
control literary, musical, or artistic work for a number of years; within Australia and in many other
countries this is 70 years from the artist or producers death or from the day of publication if later.
As an artist, I am the owner of the copyright of my artworks as far as my work is original. This means
that the work must not be copied from another

Person Environment Correspondence Counseling The concept of person environment fit (P E fit) is
central to research in organizational behavior, organizational psychology, and human resource
management (Dawis Lofquist, 1984; Edwards, Caplan, Harrison, 1998; Holland, 1997; Kristof, 1996;
Walsh, Craik Price, 2000). P E fit has been examined in reference to various person and environment

Second, a different number of matching criteria is used in each approach: six in Holland s theory (or
eight in Roe s, 1956) and 20 in the Theory of Work Adjustment. Third, each approach is especially
useful at a different stage of the career development process (Osipow, 1990): Interest theories have
typically been applied in the context of counseling and during the career decision making process, in
which the individual has to choose an occupation that fits him or her best, whereas the Theory of Work
Adjustment has been typically applied to the workplace itself, that is in choosing and adjusting to a
specific job (Gati et al. 1996). The orientation of the Theory of Work Adjustment toward specific jobs
is reflected in the inclusion of characteristics such as coworkers, supervisors, and company policies
and practices, which cannot typically be considered during the decision making process about what
occupation or training course to select (Gati et al. 1996). A reading of the P O fit literature indicates
that, in the course of its history, this literature initially focused more on organizational level outcomes,
such as organizational structure, culture, and effectiveness (Schneider et al., 2001), and later focused

Walking Dead Recaps
Finally! The Walking Dead has returned and so have my recaps. I know most of my blog lately has
been recaps and I m really sorry for that! I have been feeling unmotivated lately when it comes to
photographing things and writing but I m trying to work on some things so that I can create more
varying content for you all.
With the sixth season upon us, I was expecting something exciting and emotional but was a bit
disappointed. I wanted an episode that started right where we left off at the end of the fifth season. I
know they showed flashbacks, which was cool, but I would have preferred an episode without
flashbacks and just seeing how the community adapted after the meeting and the demise of Reg and
Pete and the return of our favorite zen ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The infected are trapped by strategically placed trucks that are blocking their path. Only one at a time
would be able to squeeze through, not enough to create an actual threat. Rick is creating a plan to
excavate the walkers when one truck falls off the ledge, leaving an open path for the walkers to travel.
I guess this discovery determines how Alexandria has stayed in tact for so long. But the bigger
problem is, how are they going to get rid of these walkers so they don t become a larger threat.
This is where the episode kind of lost me...Ricks plan is to basically lead the infected 20 miles away.
Doesn t this seem a bit ridiculous? Why couldn t they set them on fire? Or at least come up with a
different plan. I find it hard to believe they couldn t think of something other than this complicated
and insane idea to lead infected away with noise and using Daryl as bait. I understand that it makes
things interesting but it just seemed like such a stretch to me.
Another grievence I had with this episode is the character, Carter. We meet him and he is obviously
very apprehensive towards Rick. He even tries to create a plan to kill Rick before he gets anyone
killed. Eugene overhears this plan and almost gets shot but Rick comes into the house just in time and
threatens

Chris rebelled and when he finally did it was with characteristic immoderation (64). The beginning of
this excerpt shows Chris disapproval of his parent s way of life. He uses the phrase tyranny of their
conditional love, to imply that he wants to escape their oppressive rule. This relates to the theme of
nonconformity because in the end Chris rebels and refuses to give in to his parents. He left them and
went into the wild, giving away his college fund to OXFAM and refusing to accept the new car his
parents offered him. Alex demonstrates nonconformity by refusing to be controlled by his parents. ...

material things in burning his money because now he cannot buy the things in life that are not needed.

The first method is the pyrogallic acid technique in a solid medium. This technique uses streak
cultures on nutrient agar slants. A person pushes a cotton plug into the tube until it almost touches the
slant. The space above the cotton gets filled with pyrogallic acid crystals and put sodium hydroxide in
there as well. Insert the stopper very tightly and then invert and incubate. The chemicals absorb the
oxygen which produces an anaerobic environment. The second method is the shake culture method in
a solid medium. This is a molten and cooled nutrient agar which is inoculated with a loopful of an
organism. The tube gets shaken, cooled quickly, and then incubated. The position of growth in the
tube makes it the index of gaseous requirements for an organism. The third method os the Paraffin
plug technique in a broth medium. It is a medium that has reducing substances like cystein or ascorbic
acid in it. This medium gets heated to make the oxygen go away then get quickly cooled and
inoculated with a loopful of culture. After that it get immediately sealed with melted paraffin and then
gets incubated. The last method is fluid thioglycollate in a broth medium. It is present in redox

The Rise of Instant Messaging for Communication
Instant messaging (IM) is a rapid and on the rise communications medium trendy with both company
and home users. From its commencement as easy peer to peer conversation service, instant messaging
has developed to grow to be a staple mode of contact for millions of internet users. Once restricted to
desktops, accepted instantaneous messaging services IM has found its means into handheld gadgets
and cell phones, permitting users to communicate from virtually anywhere.
Information security has come to take part in an exceptionally vital role in today s fast growing, but
habitually technically delicate business environment. Consequently, protected communications are
required to benefit both companies and customers from the developments that internet is empowering
the internet users with. The likelihood of having company s information out in the open to a
malevolent attacker is constantly rising at the present time due to the elevated number of reasons: staff
has contact to sensitive and even secret company s data. Take into account the safety implications of a
staff responsible for sensitive company information, browsing the internet insecurely through the
organization s system, in receipt of distrustful emails containing an assortment of destructive
attachments. Most instant messaging systems are susceptible to account hijacking, allowing a hijacker
to attack another client s instant messaging profile and impersonate the client in conversations with
other clients. In most

Cape Cod Erosion
Cape Cod, a little arm that sticks out into the Atlantic Ocean, is a popular destination all year round
but especially in the Summer for beachgoers. Cape Cod was formed about 18,000 years ago when the
glaciers started to melt, but how was it formed? It formed through a process called weathering and
erosion. Weathering is the process of wearing away or changing the appearance or texture of
(something) by long exposure to the water, wind, and even ice. Erosion is the process that takes the
results of weathering away by water, wind, or other natural processes. The sediment was picked up by
the glaciers and slowly eroded down towards Cape Cod. As the glaciers moved south, the warmer
weather began to melt the glaciers and they dumped their load of sediment to form Cape Cod. In total,
3 glaciers formed Cape Cod. The middle lobe retreated first leaving behind sediment that created the
middle part of the arm (the bicep). Next the easternmost lobe retreated and the sediment it left behind
created the upper part of the arm (Provincetown). When the last glaciers melted about 18,000 years
ago leaving behind an usual looking landform. Today, scientists know that the glaciers brought the
sediment because they are all different colors, textures, and all have different layers.
A big problem in Cape Cod is beach erosion. The first reason why the beaches are eroding is because
of rock jetties. Rock jetties that separate beaches interrupt the natural transfer of sand by the tides and
wind. The

Comparing The Prioress s Tale And The Tale Of Melibee
In The Canterbury tales by Geoffrey Chaucer, Both The Prioress Tale and The Tale of Melibee deal
with grave evils involving attacks from enemies, injustices, and tragedies. The difference between
these two stories is that The Tale of Melibee offers a better solution to the problem of evil and
injustice than the ending of The Prioress Tale . The Tale of Melibee shows not only a solution to
Melibee s problem, but also any dilemma where there is injustice. The Prioress solution to evil is
through blaming one s enemy and solving the problem through violence instead of words. In The
Prioress Tale a Christian boy is walking home from school singing, which annoyed the Jews. The Jews

In The Tale of Melibee , Melibee s daughter Sophie is severely wounded by Melibee s enemies and
Melibee is forced to choose whether or not to seek revenge. At first urged by his flatterers, Melibee
wants to go to war. Lady Prudence, Melibee s wife, reminds Melibee that he cannot let his sorrow and
anger overwhelm him and his reaction has to be proportionate to the crime. Prudence convinces
Melibee not to go to war using reason. For example she explains that Melibee s enemies are expecting
retaliation and Melibee is not prepared for a war. Melibee is drawing from the wisdom of the world
when he should be drawing from the wisdom of God. The last example of how The Tale of Melibee
offers a better solution to the problem of evil and injustice than the ending The Prioress Tale , is that in
The Tale of Melibee , they use their words to serve justice, rather than violence. Sweet words cause
friendships to multiply and increase , and make vexatious, wicked men turn kind and meek . Prudence
uses her words to help Melibee s enemies understand how horrible what they did to Sophie was. Not
only does she make peace with Melibee s enemies but she also helps others understand that words can
be used to fight injustice, just as war

Attitude Forming Through Day Care

5 October 2014 Attitude Forming Through Day Care
Asking how day care affects children s behavior and development is almost like asking how parenting
affects children s behavior and development. Day care has many effects, some negative and some
positive. These effects depend on the quality of the care, the type of care, and the amount of time spent
in caring, just like parenting. Children spending more than ten hours a week in the care of someone
other than the mother has a long reach. Time spent in day care at a young age negatively affects a
child s social behavioral development.
About 11 million children under the age of 6 in America are put in day care. Day care is used by many

Day care has a huge impact on the way a child behaves growing up. According to the article, Study
Ties Day Care to Some Behavior Problems, The more time that kids spent in day care, the more likely
their sixth grade teachers were to report problem behaviors such as getting in fights, being disobedient
in school and arguing a lot, according to the largest study of child care and development ever
conducted in the United States. Children in day care may be taught independent thinking which could
be a huge issue for teachers. They are more likely to be aggressive, angry and uncooperative in their
early years of school. Putting a child in day care for more than their early years of life can greatly
affect the way they grow up. If a child isn t given much care and discipline from their parents they can
grow up to have more behavioral issues than a child who spent most of their time with their parents
growing up. Another negative impact of daycare is less bonding time between a mother and her child.
This is very important in the early years of a child s life. Children enrolled in daycare for long periods
of time miss out on the bonding with their mother. Babies become extremely to their mother s because
they are their primary caregivers. It is necessary that a child

Social Darwinism is a socialist theory that tries to understand the reason behind colonization and other
social vices like ethnicity. It was used to justify numerous exploits which we classify as dubious moral
values today. For instance doctors were responsible for assisting to die. Social Darwinism states that
people especially colonizers failed to justify the reason why they forcefully seized land and resources
from weaker natives. This is also illustrated in the military affairs where the strongest military will
win. The application of social Darwinism has since provided the justification for more exploitative
forms of social capitalism where workers are usually paid less and yet they have worked for many
hours.
It also tries to explain the reasoning behind slavery and colonization. However, not all social
Darwinism is negative. There are positive results of social Darwinism.

Evolution Of The Freeway System Essay
The Evolution of the Freeway System in Los Angeles
Society has always been a continuous community of movement; trying to get from one place to
another. Commuting citizens, cargo and information has always been a significant contributor to the
economic and societal life of many municipalities. From the industrial age, society has been
progressively reliant on different transportation systems in order to accomplish trade, distribution of
supplies, tourism and so on. As the suburban sprawl continues to expand, technology advances. The
resources needed to attain successful transportation has evolved over many historical revolutions to
accommodate a growing population and the immense density of a growing city. Developments in
mechanics has permitted people to move faster with greater amount of supplies and travel longer
distances, but not without challenges. Urban planners have an outlying role in freeway development
that explains the challenges needed to be overcome to excel in successful transportation services.
Urban planners have the duty to conduct political negotiations between different levels of the
government to excel and expand our urban society. Information needed to fully understand the
evolution will demonstrate the importance and impact freeway systems have on urban and suburban
lifestyles.
The decision to start implementing a system that allows automobiles to quickly get through regulated
traffic by using different roads that are composed together, will result in

The Pros And Cons Of Fundamentalism
2.6Roots of Fundamentalism
Fundamentalism makes the twentieth century despondent. It affects almost all major religious
traditions like Hinduism, Christianity, Judaism and Islam. Eliminate fundamentalism reasonableness
of the faith. Its main feature is a revival, hostility against minorities, anti intellectualism, arrogance,
lack of intellectual and immoral. They are described as resisting the rational discussion, pluralism,
freedom of speech, democracy, secularism and choose violence. Fundamentalist movement has no
program to increase the level of social equality or economic progress. They can be expected to fall,
but it was expected. (A.G. Noorani, 2007)
Fundamentalism is a form of reaction against the modernization poses a threat to the unity and
existence of their religion. Some Muslims face those challenges with love and tolerance; some others
with rejection and reconstruction. Some of those who fight for the
redevelopment of this retreat with contempt progress, taking an aggressive stance in thinking and

Analysis Of The Book The Night Of The Treaty
This week I have kept my mind clear of this weekend s plans. Jake would be showing up in a little bit
and after he reminded Edward of the treaty he was going to ride back to La Push with me. Today was
Tiffany s birthday and Embry and I went in together and bought her a present that we were going to
give her. I had stayed up late last night decorating a cake. It was her favorite, strawberry, and I had put
chocolate frosting on top. I even used white frosting that I dyed green to write Happy Birthday and put
flowers around edges.
The phone rang as finished making dinner. I was taking most of it with me to the Call s but I was
leaving some of it for Uncle Charlie s and Bella s dinner. Edward would be bringing Bella home from
work at ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He ll know that you wouldn t have known. Jake said like he was brilliant.
But that s not going to keep Bella from throwing me under the bus. You know how she hates me. If
she goes down for this she is just going to take me with her. I said. I have better things to do then stare
at my four walls for however long Uncle Charlie grounds me for.
Then tell him you felt that it was up to Bella to come clean about what she had been up to. That
tattling is never the answer. Jake said.
If I get in trouble, you get to tell Embry why I am in deep shit. I said. Jake laughed.
Just wait in your room till after I bring the bike. After he screams and yells, come down and offer to
drive me home. We go around the corner and park. I wait until Bella and her leech show up and I
remind them of the treaty. Then we actually head down to the res. You can drop me at Sam and Emily
s and I ll stay there till I go home later. I ll have to report to Sam anyway. Jake said.
Okay. See you in a little bit. I said and hung up.
I wrapped the cake and put it in the back of the car and grabbed the wrapped box that held Embry s
and my gift to Tiffany and put it in the center console. Everything was ready for Jake s big stunt. I
went upstairs to get my homework done while I waited.
Uncle Charlie yelled up the stairs that he was home at five forty five and it was about five

Evaluation of Two Preschool Classrooms Using Early...
According to our textbook Student teaching, A quality program is one that exceeds rather than meets
minimum standards for licensure. To help us determine if a preschool classroom/program provides
quality and to help us understand what quality means we were asked to evaluate and compare two
preschool classrooms using the Early Childhood Environment Rating Scale. The classrooms I chose to
evaluate and compare using the ECERS evaluation tool were the 4year old classroom at Naples
Christian Academy and the 4 year old classroom at The Learning Center. Below is my comparison of
both classrooms using the ECERS evaluation tool. Naples Christian Academy, as discussed before,
serves children from pre k3 to 8th grade. The Learning Center serves children from age 2 to 5 years
old. According to the PAS evaluations that I did for course EEC 4941, Naples Christian Academy and
The Learning Center provide a quality program for children and families. After observing both 4 year
old classrooms for two days, I was able to determine whether or not both 4 year old classrooms
provide quality also. Naples Christian Academy scored an average score of 6.93on the ECERS and
The Learning Center scored an average score of 6.58 on the ECERS. The first section I evaluated at
both locations was space and furnishings. Naples Christian Academy scores a 7 and The Learning
Center scored a 6.25. The Learning Center classroom did not have a sand/water table visible when I

plenty of help that is provided for those who want or need it. This is a true Nebraskan s Facebook

closely at the posts, I see statuses about what is going on in Washington D.C., and pictures of a

realize I should know who it is, so I scroll to the top and see that it is Deb Fischer s official Facebook
page. (Deb Fischer, Facebook) From above, you can tell that I chose to follow is Deb Fischer. There
were many reasons why I chose to follow Deb Fischer. A few of those were that she cared strongly
about health care, is a female, and owns her own ranching business. My life is mainly composed of

A recent example of something that Fischer has publicized about is Russia s role in Syria. The United
States involvement in the Middle East is not something that we can mess with, so it is a very serious
topic. This article discusses Russia s role in Syria and what Fischer thinks about their involvement.
Not wanting a world war to break out, Fischer is concerned that Russia is gaining leadership in an area
that they should not be. Instead the American leadership needs to step up because we can better the
Syria situation. As quoted in the article Lack of American leadership (has opened) a vacuum that is
being filled by a country that should not be a leader in that area. (Walton) I am not a person that likes
to be informed on what is internationally going on, but hearing that Russia is a threat in an area where

The Asian American Movement
Historian Daryl Joji Maeda called the The Asian American movement a multiethnic alliance
comprising of all ethnicities by drawing on the discourses and ideologies of the Black Power and anti
war movements in the United States as well as decolonization movements around the globe. By the
1960s, a new generation, less attached to the ethnic differences that plagued Asian immigrant groups,
began to grow and work together. The black and white binary race treatment in the US alienated Asian
Americans as an other, causing some to begin their own rally for Asian American civil rights.
Many of the early Asian movements occurred over labor issues. Asian immigrants organized for labor
rights and partnered with other Asians and other mistreated ethnic ... Show more content on

Student activism was widespread during the late 1960s, as students protested a multitude of issues
such as class inequalities and racial inequalities. The Third World Liberation Front of 1968 provided
an avenue for student groups of color to band together against discriminatory practices in the
university. The multiracial coalition consisted of six student organizations, including the Black
Student Union (BSU) and the Asian American Political Alliance. The BSU was extremely important in
rallying other student groups to be part of the movement to improve the lives of colored people. For
example, it was a member of the BSU who approached the leaders of the Intercollegiate Chinese for
Social Action (ICSA) to join forces with BSU. It was moments like these interactions that made Asian
American activists realize that their own liberation could only take place in accordance with other
color liberation movements. Thus, interracial affinity expressed not only to blacks, but to Latinos,
Native Americans and other ethnic groups of

Who Is D Amville In Atheist s Tragedy
D Amville, the main antagonist in the tragedy The Atheist s Tragedy by Cyril Tourneur, ponders the
meaning of life throughout the play. After a climactic conversation with Borachio, D Amville makes
his stance on life very clear: life is limited, life is short, and the only way to defeat the forces of nature
and to extend life is through a healthy, wealthy, offspring. This idea alone becomes the motive for
many of D Amville s decisions: it is because of this concept that he kills his brother, Montferrers; it is
because of this ideology that he is determined to marry off his son, and when that plot fails, this
ideology is the main motivation for his attempted rape of Castabella. In the beginning of the play,
everything is going according to D Amville s ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Every time D Amville speaks in verse, he follows the rhythmic patterns of iambic pentameter. As he
discusses the importance of his children to his life, asserting that There s my eternity...[which will] add
to life as much of happiness , D Amville follows the rules of iambic pentameter without flaw
(Tourneur, 254, 1.1.124 127). For example, in the lines And IN my REAson DWELLS the
PROvidENCE/to ADD to LIFE as MUCH of HAppiNESS , we see that there are five pairs of stressed
syllable and five pairs of unstressed syllables in each of these lines. Moreover, these lines, just like
many others in this section, correctly follow the unstressed, stressed pattern. He does not waver, or
mistakenly add or remove a syllable; rather he is entirely confident in his speech. Throughout all of
his lines, in this passage, his meter is fixed, and it is stable. During the first few pages of the play,
whenever D Amville speaks, he continues to use the same manner in his speech. Just as he is
unwavering in his speech, just as he is firm in his words, he is also firm in the beliefs he expresses in
these lines. He stresses that IN his reason, the solution lies. He also stresses the word DWELLS,
which also emphasizes his idea that reason is truly where he believes happiness and providence reside.
His speech is, therefore, a reflection of his attitude; just as he does not

A story A tale of two cities by Charles Dickens and the story entitled Les Miserables by Victor Hugo

Law of Reflection: Reflection and refraction are common properties of light. When a ray of light
comes into contact with the surface of some material, part of the ray is reflected and part of it is
absorbed. In other words, reflection occurs when an incident ray hits a reflective surface and bounces
off. The law of reflection states that the angle of reflection is equal to the angle of incidence (always in
respect to the normal) and that the incident ray, the normal line and the reflected ray are all located in
the same plane.
Snell s Law of Refraction: When a ray of light reaches a boundary between two transparent mediums,
reflection and refraction occur. Refraction takes place when rays of light bend across the boundary
into the second medium which causes a change in the light s velocity. The denser the medium, the
slower the light.
Total Internal Reflection: Internal reflection refers to light travelling from a higher index medium to a
lower index medium, which causes the ray to bend away from the normal, so the exit angle is greater
than the incident angle. As the angle of incidence increases, so does the angle of refraction. Total
internal reflection takes place when the angle of incidence is greater than the

The Alegorical Nature of O Captain! My Captain! by Walt...
Explication of O Captain! My Captain! O Captain! My Captain! is one of the most popular poems
ever written by Walt Whitman. Upon the initial reading of this poem, one may perceive the poem to be
about a loyal captain who leads his crew on a treacherous, but successful, voyage which ends in
devastation. If interpreted literally this is the poem s only meaning, but for those who look further
there is an underlying story behind the words of Whitman. Whitman uses multiple literary elements
throughout this poem in order to unmask the story of Abraham Lincoln s journey and ultimate death as
a result of the Civil War and his fight to end slavery. The title of the poem, O Captain! My Captain! ,
insinuates that the poem will be centered ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The speaker states, Rise up for you the flag is flung for you the bugle trills (line 10). This is
interpreted as the ending of the war due to the patriotic symbolism of the flag which stands for
freedom and also victory. Within this stanza, the importance of the captain is now extended from just
the speaker to all those who await the ship s arrival. This is demonstrated as the speaker states, For
you they call, the swaying mass, their eager faces turning (lines 11 12). The joyful tone of the stanza
ceases towards the end as an unexpected downfall of emotions begins. Whitman uses repetition in
lines 15 and 16 when he states It is some dream that on the deck, / You ve fallen cold and dead (lines
15 16). This serves as a disturbing reminder that the figure which was most significant to the entire
situation is no longer alive. The depressing realization of the captain s death is evident and seen most
within the last stanza as the tone changes from that of triumph and elation to heartbreak and grief. This
is shown through Whitman s use of imagery as the speaker states, My Captain does not answer, his
lips are pale and still, / My father does not feel my arm, he has no pulse nor will (lines 17 18). This
provides a detailed description of the lifeless captain as he lies on the deck. The following lines
describe the successfulness of the mission as the captain has led his crew to safety after accomplishing
the goals which were set. This alteration in tone

Introduction. The Bible Is One Of The Bestselling Books
INTRODUCTION
The Bible is one of the bestselling books in the world, for this reason it is incredibly important for
Christians and non Christians alike to examine the reliability of the text. Because the nature of this
paper is rather short, the historical evidence outlined will be brief and not all inclusive. This paper will
examine the writings and thoughts of many great people including Joshua McDowell, J. Walter
Wallace and William Craig. For the purpose of clarity when discussing the Bible or Scriptures this
paper is referring to the Christian Bible which totals of 66 Books. Additionally, the goal of this paper
is not to prove the Bible is the Word of God, a message from God, or inerrant, meaning without error,
or even that it is a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Old Testament scribes copied each manuscript meticulously, counting every letter and comparing it
with the original (McDowell 1992, 50 51). If there was even a single error the copy was discarded and
they began anew. Not only were these manuscripts incredibly accurate they also were numerous. The
New Testament has over 24,000 manuscripts with the earliest copy dating about twenty five years
after the original (McDowell 1992, 52). In comparison, Homer s Iliad, one of the most historically
accepted manuscripts, has only 642 manuscripts with a 500 year gap between the original and the first
surviving copy. Since Homer s Iliad is considered reliable it seems the New Testament should also be
considered a reliable copy of the original.
SUPPORTING EVIDENCE #2
The reliability of the Bible as a historical document is the first form of evidence which points to the
reliability of the Bible as a whole. The most trustworthy records of history are eyewitness accounts,
writings of those who had a trustworthy source (such as an eyewitness), and archeological findings
(Bowman 1965, 15). The Bible has all three of these evidences present. For instance, Exodus,
Jeremiah, and Matthew are all examples of accounts written by firsthand eye witnesses. Luke and Acts
were written by Luke who was a friend of many eyewitnesses. Furthermore, even eyewitnesses who
were antagonistic towards Christians, such as Josephus, affirmed the truth

becoming much more important in the global economic realm in my opinion I do not believe that their

They seem less attractive than hedge funds, mutual funds, etc. Another issue is that with currencies
such as Eurozone.. when things start to look like they are going sour the first thing people do is sell off
their emerging market investments. It s a very violent market to invest in such a risky situation.
Another issue such as emerging markets in China is that the inflation rate is regulated by the
government. It s not necessarily a risky trait to have in n emerging market but it s also harder to
predict a downward spiral as well. It seems as of now investors are better off in more traditional
currencies. With the Erozone for example it seemed like a great idea but when things go bad people
aren t comfortable holding on to assets that they aren t familiar with or comfortable with.
5) Based on your analysis and findings, what would you recommend to international market currency
investors? If you don t have the money to invest, don t. If it s an investment that you are looking for a
quick return and are able to lose the capital you put in then I say go for it. If you are investing for
something such as a college fund or retirement fund then an emerging market isn t for you. The
emerging market game is something risky and uncertain... it needs to remain an option for people who
have the ability to ride it out or lose.

  • 2. Feminist Icon Betty Friedan Testified On January 29th, 1970, feminist icon Betty Friedan testified before the Senate Judicial committee to protest the appointment of Judge George Harrold Carswell to Supreme Court Justice. With this testimony, Friedan hoped to persuade the committee to reject Carswell s nomination. In her testimony, Friedan was clear, concise, and effective. Friedan employed many different techniques to provide examples and backings for her assertions. Within the first few sentences of her speech, the activist establishes credibility and states her reason for being there. As president of the National Organization of Women, known informally as N.O.W., Betty Friedan speaks out against the discrimination against women in the employment, education, and in all ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Friedan also uses statistics to remind the court that 4.1 million mothers in the working force have children under the age of six and that they comprise 38.9 percent of the nearly 10.6 million mothers in the labor force today (Friedan). The activist continues to use evidential elements and statistics in her testimony, stating for every mother of children who worked in 1940, ten mothers are working today, an increase from slightly over 1.5 million to nearly 11 million (Friedan). Friedan also makes point that a man applying for the same position would not be denied because he was father to pre school aged children. The use factual evidence makes many of Friedan s assertions irrefutable and provides solid backing for her case against Carswell. However, Friedan does not just use factual evidence. The activist also appeals to emotions in her testimony, and although this may not be the most effective tool against her targeted audience, it does give her backing beyond the factual. Friedan asks the committee to place themselves in the shoes of those she fights for, and asks for empathy. To paraphrase, Friedan asks them to imagine themselves being denied for reelection, or applying for a job at a company or law firm or university and being told they are ineligible simply because they had a child (Friedan). After painting this picture for the committee, Friedan hits back with a question, asking then how do you feel about appointing to the Supreme Court a man who has said ... • 3. Common Core State Standards ( Ccss ) Common Core State Standards (CCSS) is a widely debatable topic. Parents, teachers, administration, and even states have taken a stance on what they believe. CCSS is a document created by researchers, teachers, administration, and even the public, stating exactly what each student in grades K 12 should be accomplishing by the end of each level. It is ideally in place for teachers to have a clear understanding of what students are expected to achieve and know by each benchmark test so they can ensure this readiness. Though much thought and exertion has gone into the production and implementation of these standards, many myths have been formulated from them, causing the standards to sound as if they do not have any advantage to our schools ( Understanding the Common Core ). Adopting common standards means bringing all states standards down to the lowest common denominator. This means that states with high standards are actually taking a step backwards by adopting the Common Core ( Utah Core Standards ). This is one of the biggest myths that branch from common core. While this does seem reasonable to believe, it is false. The creators of the criteria looked at the current standards nationally and globally to compose a list from the highest benchmarks available. The new standards not only bring the lower states up, but those with the highest expectations for their students have to bring their schooling to the next level with Common Core in place. This provides the assurance ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Copyright And Licensing Of Art Copyright and Licensing explained. No artwork exhibited in an open display is invulnerable; anytime an artwork becomes known, it is predisposed to relative alterations, falsifications, and reuse by other artists. Countless art movements are fashioned around the revision of earlier works and representations. As an artist, one must accept the unavoidable fact that one day there will probably be alterations to their artwork. Once the great Pablo Picasso argued that: Bad artists copy. Good artists steal . In this essay it will be explained the rules governing the copyright and licensing. The emphasis of this essay will be also focusing on what are the steps to follow to grant a license to a third party in order to make it liable to use my work of art, that in this case will be an image from one of my paintings. The existence of copyright is indispensable especially aiming on intellectual property rights in art, and whether it must be used not simply to protect the truth of the artist but moreover to encourage future creativeness in the art industry. The meaning of copyright is the sole rights to generate copies and to control literary, musical, or artistic work for a number of years; within Australia and in many other countries this is 70 years from the artist or producers death or from the day of publication if later. As an artist, I am the owner of the copyright of my artworks as far as my work is original. This means that the work must not be copied from another ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Essay about Person Environment -Correspondence Counseling Person Environment Correspondence Counseling Freya Cooper Richardson Troy University Phenix City Vocational Psychology and Career Development PSY 6635 Dr. Thomas Peavy April 01, 2011 Person Environment Correspondence Counseling The concept of person environment fit (P E fit) is central to research in organizational behavior, organizational psychology, and human resource management (Dawis Lofquist, 1984; Edwards, Caplan, Harrison, 1998; Holland, 1997; Kristof, 1996; Walsh, Craik Price, 2000). Second, a different number of matching criteria is used in each approach: six in Holland s theory (or eight in Roe s, 1956) and 20 in the Theory of Work Adjustment. Third, each approach is especially useful at a different stage of the career development process (Osipow, 1990): Interest theories have typically been applied in the context of counseling and during the career decision making process, in which the individual has to choose an occupation that fits him or her best, whereas the Theory of Work Adjustment has been typically applied to the workplace itself, that is in choosing and adjusting to a specific job (Gati et al. 1996). The orientation of the Theory of Work Adjustment toward specific jobs is reflected in the inclusion of characteristics such as coworkers, supervisors, and company policies and practices, which cannot typically be considered during the decision making process about what occupation or training course to select (Gati et al. 1996). A reading of the P O fit literature indicates that, in the course of its history, this literature initially focused more on organizational level outcomes, such as organizational structure, culture, and effectiveness (Schneider et al., 2001), and later focused on the ... • 6. Walking Dead Recaps Finally! The Walking Dead has returned and so have my recaps. I know most of my blog lately has been recaps and I m really sorry for that! I have been feeling unmotivated lately when it comes to photographing things and writing but I m trying to work on some things so that I can create more varying content for you all. With the sixth season upon us, I was expecting something exciting and emotional but was a bit disappointed. I wanted an episode that started right where we left off at the end of the fifth season. I know they showed flashbacks, which was cool, but I would have preferred an episode without flashbacks and just seeing how the community adapted after the meeting and the demise of Reg and Pete and the return of our favorite zen ... Only one at a time would be able to squeeze through, not enough to create an actual threat. Rick is creating a plan to excavate the walkers when one truck falls off the ledge, leaving an open path for the walkers to travel. I guess this discovery determines how Alexandria has stayed in tact for so long. But the bigger problem is, how are they going to get rid of these walkers so they don t become a larger threat. This is where the episode kind of lost me...Ricks plan is to basically lead the infected 20 miles away. Doesn t this seem a bit ridiculous? Why couldn t they set them on fire? Or at least come up with a different plan. I find it hard to believe they couldn t think of something other than this complicated and insane idea to lead infected away with noise and using Daryl as bait. I understand that it makes things interesting but it just seemed like such a stretch to me. Another grievence I had with this episode is the character, Carter. We meet him and he is obviously very apprehensive towards Rick. He even tries to create a plan to kill Rick before he gets anyone killed. Eugene overhears this plan and almost gets shot but Rick comes into the house just in time and threatens ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The beginning of this excerpt shows Chris disapproval of his parent s way of life. He uses the phrase tyranny of their conditional love, to imply that he wants to escape their oppressive rule. This relates to the theme of nonconformity because in the end Chris rebels and refuses to give in to his parents. A person pushes a cotton plug into the tube until it almost touches the slant. The space above the cotton gets filled with pyrogallic acid crystals and put sodium hydroxide in there as well. Insert the stopper very tightly and then invert and incubate. The chemicals absorb the oxygen which produces an anaerobic environment. The second method is the shake culture method in a solid medium. This is a molten and cooled nutrient agar which is inoculated with a loopful of an organism. The tube gets shaken, cooled quickly, and then incubated. The position of growth in the tube makes it the index of gaseous requirements for an organism. The third method os the Paraffin plug technique in a broth medium. • 11. Cape Cod Erosion Cape Cod, a little arm that sticks out into the Atlantic Ocean, is a popular destination all year round but especially in the Summer for beachgoers. Cape Cod was formed about 18,000 years ago when the glaciers started to melt, but how was it formed? It formed through a process called weathering and erosion. Weathering is the process of wearing away or changing the appearance or texture of (something) by long exposure to the water, wind, and even ice. Erosion is the process that takes the results of weathering away by water, wind, or other natural processes. The sediment was picked up by the glaciers and slowly eroded down towards Cape Cod. As the glaciers moved south, the warmer weather began to melt the glaciers and they dumped their load of sediment to form Cape Cod. In total, 3 glaciers formed Cape Cod. The middle lobe retreated first leaving behind sediment that created the middle part of the arm (the bicep). Next the easternmost lobe retreated and the sediment it left behind created the upper part of the arm (Provincetown). When the last glaciers melted about 18,000 years ago leaving behind an usual looking landform. Today, scientists know that the glaciers brought the sediment because they are all different colors, textures, and all have different layers. A big problem in Cape Cod is beach erosion. The first reason why the beaches are eroding is because of rock jetties. Rock jetties that separate beaches interrupt the natural transfer of sand by the tides and wind. The ... Comparing The Prioress s Tale And The Tale Of Melibee In The Canterbury tales by Geoffrey Chaucer, Both The Prioress Tale and The Tale of Melibee deal with grave evils involving attacks from enemies, injustices, and tragedies. The difference between these two stories is that The Tale of Melibee offers a better solution to the problem of evil and injustice than the ending of The Prioress Tale . The Tale of Melibee shows not only a solution to Melibee s problem, but also any dilemma where there is injustice. The Prioress solution to evil is through blaming one s enemy and solving the problem through violence instead of words. For example, in the lines And IN my REAson DWELLS the PROvidENCE/to ADD to LIFE as MUCH of HAppiNESS , we see that there are five pairs of stressed syllable and five pairs of unstressed syllables in each of these lines. Moreover, these lines, just like many others in this section, correctly follow the unstressed, stressed pattern. He does not waver, or mistakenly add or remove a syllable; rather he is entirely confident in his speech. Throughout all of his lines, in this passage, his meter is fixed, and it is stable. During the first few pages of the play, whenever D Amville speaks, he continues to use the same manner in his speech. Just as he is unwavering in his speech, just as he is firm in his words, he is also firm in the beliefs he expresses in these lines. He stresses that IN his reason, the solution lies. He also stresses the word DWELLS, which also emphasizes his idea that reason is truly where he believes happiness and providence reside. His speech is, therefore, a reflection of his attitude; just as he does not ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It also doesn t show many interactions between Carton and Darnay. Also, MR. Manette does not have as prominent of a role in the movie as the book, as well as Lorry and Jerry. • 33. Critical Angle And Total Internal Reflection Critical Angle Total Internal Reflection Kate Graham Partner: Samantha Dekart Monday, November 9, 2015 SNC2D Ms. Vink Purpose: See attached sheet, labelled SNC2D Lab Sheet . Related Theory: Law of Reflection: Reflection and refraction are common properties of light. When a ray of light comes into contact with the surface of some material, part of the ray is reflected and part of it is absorbed. In other words, reflection occurs when an incident ray hits a reflective surface and bounces off. The law of reflection states that the angle of reflection is equal to the angle of incidence (always in respect to the normal) and that the incident ray, the normal line and the reflected ray are all located in the same plane. Snell s Law of Refraction: When a ray of light reaches a boundary between two transparent mediums, reflection and refraction occur. Refraction takes place when rays of light bend across the boundary into the second medium which causes a change in the light s velocity. The denser the medium, the slower the light. Total Internal Reflection: Internal reflection refers to light travelling from a higher index medium to a lower index medium, which causes the ray to bend away from the normal, so the exit angle is greater than the incident angle. As the angle of incidence increases, so does the angle of refraction. Total internal reflection takes place when the angle of incidence is greater than the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 34. The Alegorical Nature of O Captain! My Captain! by Walt... Explication of O Captain! My Captain! O Captain! My Captain! is one of the most popular poems ever written by Walt Whitman. Upon the initial reading of this poem, one may perceive the poem to be about a loyal captain who leads his crew on a treacherous, but successful, voyage which ends in devastation. If interpreted literally this is the poem s only meaning, but for those who look further there is an underlying story behind the words of Whitman. Whitman uses multiple literary elements throughout this poem in order to unmask the story of Abraham Lincoln s journey and ultimate death as a result of the Civil War and his fight to end slavery. The title of the poem, O Captain! My Captain! , insinuates that the poem will be centered ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The speaker states, Rise up for you the flag is flung for you the bugle trills (line 10). This is interpreted as the ending of the war due to the patriotic symbolism of the flag which stands for freedom and also victory. Within this stanza, the importance of the captain is now extended from just the speaker to all those who await the ship s arrival. This is demonstrated as the speaker states, For you they call, the swaying mass, their eager faces turning (lines 11 12). The joyful tone of the stanza ceases towards the end as an unexpected downfall of emotions begins. Whitman uses repetition in lines 15 and 16 when he states It is some dream that on the deck, / You ve fallen cold and dead (lines 15 16). This serves as a disturbing reminder that the figure which was most significant to the entire situation is no longer alive. The depressing realization of the captain s death is evident and seen most within the last stanza as the tone changes from that of triumph and elation to heartbreak and grief. This is shown through Whitman s use of imagery as the speaker states, My Captain does not answer, his lips are pale and still, / My father does not feel my arm, he has no pulse nor will (lines 17 18). This provides a detailed description of the lifeless captain as he lies on the deck. The following lines describe the successfulness of the mission as the captain has led his crew to safety after accomplishing the goals which were set. This alteration in tone ... • 35. Introduction. The Bible Is One Of The Bestselling Books INTRODUCTION The Bible is one of the bestselling books in the world, for this reason it is incredibly important for Christians and non Christians alike to examine the reliability of the text. Because the nature of this paper is rather short, the historical evidence outlined will be brief and not all inclusive. This paper will examine the writings and thoughts of many great people including Joshua McDowell, J. Walter Wallace and William Craig. For the purpose of clarity when discussing the Bible or Scriptures this paper is referring to the Christian Bible which totals of 66 Books. Additionally, the goal of this paper is not to prove the Bible is the Word of God, a message from God, or inerrant, meaning without error, or even that it is a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Old Testament scribes copied each manuscript meticulously, counting every letter and comparing it with the original (McDowell 1992, 50 51). If there was even a single error the copy was discarded and they began anew. Not only were these manuscripts incredibly accurate they also were numerous. The New Testament has over 24,000 manuscripts with the earliest copy dating about twenty five years after the original (McDowell 1992, 52). In comparison, Homer s Iliad, one of the most historically accepted manuscripts, has only 642 manuscripts with a 500 year gap between the original and the first surviving copy. Since Homer s Iliad is considered reliable it seems the New Testament should also be considered a reliable copy of the original. SUPPORTING EVIDENCE #2 The reliability of the Bible as a historical document is the first form of evidence which points to the reliability of the Bible as a whole. The most trustworthy records of history are eyewitness accounts, writings of those who had a trustworthy source (such as an eyewitness), and archeological findings (Bowman 1965, 15). The Bible has all three of these evidences present. For instance, Exodus, Jeremiah, and Matthew are all examples of accounts written by firsthand eye witnesses. Luke and Acts were written by Luke who was a friend of many eyewitnesses. Furthermore, even eyewitnesses who were antagonistic towards Christians, such as Josephus, affirmed the truth ... Based on your analysis and findings, will Renminbi replace the US Dollar as the world s most popular currencies to hold? Please explain your reasoning. While China is a quickly growing country and becoming much more important in the global economic realm in my opinion I do not believe that their currency the Yuan Renminbi will take over the US dollar. It s a very violent market to invest in such a risky situation. Another issue such as emerging markets in China is that the inflation rate is regulated by the government. It s not necessarily a risky trait to have in n emerging market but it s also harder to predict a downward spiral as well. It seems as of now investors are better off in more traditional currencies. With the Erozone for example it seemed like a great idea but when things go bad people aren t comfortable holding on to assets that they aren t familiar with or comfortable with. 5) Based on your analysis and findings, what would you recommend to international market currency investors? If you don t have the money to invest, don t. If it s an investment that you are looking for a quick return and are able to lose the capital you put in then I say go for it. If you are investing for something such as a college fund or retirement fund then an emerging market isn t for you.
