Learning A Second Language Education Essay
We live in a world surrounded by people of various cultures, countries, and ethnicities, who all
speak different languages. As a young child, I attended a Spanish immersion program through my
pre school and elementary school. I was absorbed into a new culture much different from my
own. I grew up learning words in Spanish before I knew them in English. I also developed
unexpected friendships, spending much of my childhood in Spanish speaking households. As a
college student, I look back on this time and greatly appreciate the skills and lessons I cultivated
from learning a second language. Second language educationshould be required in elementary
schools. Learning a second languageleads children to become successful students with prosperous
futures and connects people of different cultures. Studies have shown that students who receive
second language education do better on standardized tests. A study conducted by P.W. Armstrong
and J.D. Rogers in 1997 declared that third grade students who received thirty minute lessons in
Spanish three times a week, scored higher on the Metropolitan Achievement Test in the subjects of
math and language than their peers who did not receive Spanish education (American Council on
the Teaching of Foreign Languages). Another study that took place in 1981 by P.A. Eddy shows
that students who have received second language learning, do better on SAT sub tests and on the
verbal section of the SAT than students who did not study a second

Flashback In The Kite Runner
As Amir waited on Sohrab s response to his question which was if Sohrab would acompany Amir
to America his mind drifted back to a winter day from long ago. This flashback I believe pla an
important role in understanding the character of Hassan. Amirs mind flashed back to the image
of Hassan and him sitting on the snow beneath a leafless sour cherry tree. That day was where
Amir playes a cruel joke on hassan by asking him if he would chew dirt to prove his loyalty to
him and Amir said If you asked, I would, but also in responce, Hassan asked Amir if he would
ever ask such a thing which Amir responded he would not. But as Amir say That s the thing about
people who mean everything they say. They think everyone else does too. In this flashback

Why Cleft Palate Affects Articulation And If Early...
General Comments: The article was clearly written that the understanding of the article was easier.
The sections which allowed me to understand what each paragraph is talking about. It was
surprising when the first sentence that there are only one significant evidence between children
who received therapy and children who did not. After researching there is a lot of research and
history of cleft palate within children age 1 5 with/without therapy.
It is going to be interesting to read this article and determine if cleft palate affects articulation and
if early intervention is needed at these ages and to identify factors of why these outcomes are

The article was easy to understand due to having a background in phonetics and know the different
types of place, manner and voicing.
Introduction: According to the article, there is documentation that there are early intervention
programs out in the world. The congress, of 1986, encouraged others to design early intervention
for toddlers and infants with disabilities. There is (1/4) of children in the world that qualify for
early interventions and demonstrate some type of communication disorder. There are many other
studies that have been done that concluded there is little known about the effectiveness of
treatments on toddlers with cleft palate who enrolled in early intervention services. According to
Blakeley and Brockman (1995), they described 41 children that do have cleft palate who
enrolled in 4 year treatment plan at the age of 12 months. 66% of the children also received
articulation therapy from an SLP. The results showed 93% of them showed normal articulation by
age 5 and 88% had normal expressive language also by the age of 5.
Early intervention helps children, with delays, in speech sound development and expressive
language focus on the extending of the child s lexical development. Lexical development refers to
stages or steps in a process involving change. One primary therapy goal would be SLP s expanding
the client s consonant inventory, of early intervention. In the method

Sir Thomas More
Sir Thomas More UTOPIA Sir Thomas More, son of Sir John More, a justice of King s Bench,
after his earlier education at St. Anthony s, he was placed, as a boy, in the household of Cardinal
John Morton, Archbishop of Canterbury and Lord Chancellor. It was not usual for persons of
wealth or influence and sons of good families to be so established together in a relation of patron
and client. The youth wore his patron s livery, and added to his state. The patron used, afterwards,
his wealth or influence in helping his young client forward in the world. Thomas More is
travelling as Henry the Eighth s ambassador in the Low Countries in the early 1500s when he

For Thomas More, like for other leaders too, an appeal to understanding it isn t the preferred
method of transmitting important principles. A leader prefers to communicate in a clear,
compelling and memorable way, as he does once in a while. But he understands that there are
many other situations where a direct appeal and modest understanding is the most effective way
to communicate a deep conviction. This approach works paradoxically. When a leader appeals
to understanding, he gives to others a part of its power, rather than assert its own authority; he
encourages others to trust him, by having first trust in others and shows its power and
confidence by acting with modesty and humility. The appeals for understanding have another
advantage: they are a way to a way to encourage others to strive to understand what the leader is
doing and thinks. Morus has done this with many people around him, and even now, after so
many centuries, his story troubles people and makes them analyze their lives and values. The
value of these efforts is expressed by the African proverb which says: When I pray for bread and
I get it, I think at bread and I forgot about God. When I pray for bread and I don t get it, I think of
God. More preferred the means of communication that challenge, and not the simple and

Feminism In Wonder Woman
Who doesn t love a good superhero? The perfect figure, the spandex suit, the flowing cape, flawless
looks, and the powers we can only dream of having. Superheroes have been around for ages now,
leaving an everlasting imprint on our hearts. It is no secret that males dominate the superhero
industry; both the heroes themselves and those who create them. Superman, Batman, Ironman, and
Spiderman have become the top heroes of all time; there is nothing wrong with them holding the
spotlight, but female heroes are underrepresented. There are notable female heroes, but they tend
to be drawn with a busty figure that few women are naturally blessed with, and show little
emotional rational in fights. Take Black Widow (Marvel) for example, anyone would love for
her figure and kick ass moves. Wonder Woman is our hero of the hour, she has made her way
onto the big screen; casting her into the spotlight more than ever. She screams fights for love,
promotes peace, is a beacon of hope, and screams feminism. What s not to love? The new movie
released on June 2, 2017, has called more attention to the American spirited, Amazonian woman
than ever before. The movie is the first fully female directed movie, Patty Jenkins brings a great
female to the big screen. Although the movie is great and supports feminism, is the movie the
depiction of Wonder Woman that should be idealized? Feminism isn t some new, hip trend. It has
taken control of mainstream media, it s impossible to go on the internet

Fiat s share of the European market shrank from 9.4% in 2000 to 5.8% in the summer of 2004,
when Sergio Marchionne was appointed as Chief Executive. By March 2009 their market share
had risen to 9.1%. This was mainly due to the successful launch of new cars, notably the Fiat 500.
On 20 January 2009, Fiat and the US carmaker Chrysler announced their intention to form a global
alliance. Under the terms of the agreement, Fiat would take a 20% stake in Chrysler and gain
access to its North American distribution network in exchange for providing Chrysler with
technology and platforms to build smaller, more fuel efficient vehicles in the US and providing
reciprocal access to Fiat s global distribution network.

In addition, the proposed agreement would entitle Fiat to receive a further 15% of Chrysler
(without cash consideration) subject to the achievement of specific product and commercial
objectives. No cash or financial support was required from Fiat under the agreement. Instead it
would obtain its stake mainly in exchange for covering the cost of retooling a Chrysler plant to
produce one or more Fiat models for in the US. Fiat would also provide engine and transmission
technology to enable Chrysler to introduce smaller, fuel efficient models in the NAFTA (North
America Free Trade Agreement USA, Canada and Mexico) market. The principal objective of the

Cleopatr The Ruler Behind The Myth
Final Paper | Cleopatra Unearthed: The Ruler Behind the Myth Adunola Sonaike HST323, Sect.
17196: Themes in Roman Republican and Imperial History Prof. Sandra Gambetti May 24th,
2015Introduction: Cleopatra Who? Who was Cleopatra? Who is Cleopatra? Portrayed as both
goddess and monster in her own lifetime, through the ages she has become both saint and sinner,
heroine and victim, femme fatale and star crossed lover, politician and voluptuary, black and
white. A protean figure, Cleopatra defies categorization. 1 So began Prudence J. Jones
introduction in her edited text, Cleopatra: A Sourcebook. Jones claims Cleopatra was a
chameleon in the skin of an Egyptian Pharaoh. As such she molded herself to fit what would best
procure her the much needed tactics to strengthen and maximize the power she inherited. As the
world changed, so did their perception of Cleopatra; and, in turn every generation construed her
differently: from evil seductress, ill fated star crossed lover to renewed empowering feminist icon.
The Cleopatra painted in this paper will decidedly be more reserved, acutely un promiscuous,
sharp witted, resilient, and less beautiful than her literary and culturally shambolic counterpart; the
Cleopatra history wished to hide. One cannot help but to find Cleopatra tremendously impressive
and more or less frightening. This woman was up against incredible odds, and before she knew it
her story was over. She was provided a losing hand, yet went along

Mary Shelley s Frankenstein Comparison
The movie Mary Shelley s Frankenstein, directed by Kenneth Branagh may be the most accurate
depiction of such a prestigious work of art in Mary Shelley s novel titled Frankenstein. The movie
encompasses the themes that Shelley set out to exhibit in her own novel in a mirror like fashion
except for the reason it is being portrayed on the big screen rather than on paper. In addition to the
messages being displayed in the film and novelbeing alike, the storylines were almost identical.
The movie even included the highly beneficial frame story with Robert Walton and his crew and
their travelings to the North Pole. Lastly, the actors and props within the movie could not have
done a better job of portraying the feelings of the characters and the setting of this well known story.

Both of these themes are very accurately depicted in the film, as Shelley wrote them out in her
novel. For example, in the novel the dangers of knowledge are demonstrated when Victor
Frankenstein uses his own knowledge to create a monster which ends up being dangerous to all of
humanity. However at the conclusion of the novel, after Robert Walton understands what
knowledge can do, he still leads his crew in pursuit to the North Pole for knowledge. Now, the
film portrays the exact line of events except when Walton discovers what knowledge can do,
instead of ignoring it, he turns his ship around for the safety of himself and his crew. This may be
even more effective to a reader or observer understanding the theme, witnessing a character realize
the unfortunate events of another character and making better decisions for themselves. So, not
only does the movie illustrate the same themes as Shelley does in her novel, but it may even exhibit
them in a more perceptible

My Statement Of Purpose For Learning English
Statement of Purpose
One language sets you in a corridor for life. Two languages open every door along the way. Franck
Smith
My interest in learning English is due to the fact that I have always liked to challenge myself.
Even though many of my friends and family warned me from majoring in English, as it would
be difficult for me, I have accepted the challenge. I have always felt that learning English would
increase myself confidence and have people around me impressed. This interest has also grown
through my passion in learning about languages, cultures, and traditions. Where I come from,
Saudi Arabia, a big number of people came from different countries and spoke different
languages. I have realized that English could be a means to interact with a lot of people speaking
different languages. I have also realized that English is the lingua franca of today s world with no

Contemporary Theories Of Subcultures
A subculture is considered a group of dominant people or culture that has been defined in its
norms, values, and interests, which are often inconsistent to those of large groups. (Bohm Vogel,
2011) Subcultures were created when a group of people that share the same beliefs or
circumstances finds themselves cut off from society. (Bohm Vogel, 2011) These groups are distinct
from those of the majority and are held by a group into a broader society. Most subcultures are
recognized by their age of its members, or by race, ethnicity, class, gender, and their qualities that
may be aesthetic, religious, occupational, political, and sexual or a combination of these factors.
However, people create subcultures as a way to feel accepted while also signifying that they are
different from other groups. The subculture theory focuses on consistent distinctiveness, identity,
commitment, and autonomy.
The first subculture group I would like to recognize is the police they are law enforcement officers
with specific types of attitudes, beliefs, and behaviors. I place them in the subculture category
because of they spend their time dealing with crime; therefore they tend to be judgmental towards
members of the public viewing them as untrustworthy and potentially hostile; therefore, the public
view the police as being unreliable and abusive as well. The police depend on their cohorts to back
them up, and mostly teamwork to apprehend criminals; therefore, it creates a dynamic of police

Comparison Heart of Darkness to Road Not Taken Essay
Journeys, planned and unplanned, are an inevitable part of life. Their consequences, foreseen or
unforeseen, play an important part in a person s growth.
Life is the journey, the inevitable journey, and the experiences thoughout life, the journeys within
the journey, are the planned and unplanned experiences that change people and are a huge part of a
person s moral and personal growth. In the novella Heart of Darkness by Joseph Conrad, the
physical journey through the Congo is parallel to the inner journey of the main character Marlow.
Similarly, the poem The Road Not Taken by Robert Frost, relates on both a literal and metaphoric
level to the concept of a journey. The individuals creation of their own direction on a journey is...

Unsettling as it is to him, Marlow identifies with this notion, and it undoubtedly causes him to
contemplate who he is and rethink his place in the world, and change his overall perseption.
Conrad conveys clear ideas of how the creation of their one s direction on a journey leads to strong
inner growth.
Just as Conrad conveys the creation of one s own path subconsciously in Marlow, the poem Road
not taken by Robert Frost explores this idea, represented my literal paths and an alternate, unspoken
third path. The metaphor of the physical journey shows the moral growth in the protagonist. The
poem is written in first person, giving it a very personal and reflective tone, expressing a pivotal
moment in the persona s life. The use of andante, the flowing rhythm establishes a conversational
tone. The rhyme scheme is simple and effective throughout the poem, however, it changes in the
final stanza. By implementing a new scheme here, the final thought of reflection is emphasized.
The less traveled road is symbolic of the gamble of choosing a more individual path in life, the
protagonist s own road. This can be compared to the quote by Antonio Machado, Travelers, there is
no path, paths are made by walking. This quote exemplifies the fact that walking the path is more
important than

Reflection On Henry Hudson Trail
This year for service day I traveled to the Henry Hudson Trail, which is part of the Monmouth
County Park system, in order to pick up trash and clean off the trail. This particular location I
visited for service day does not have a specific mission; however this trail offers New Jersey
residents the opportunity to be immersed in nature and enjoy beauty of this state. At this location I
expected to see a lot of trash and dirt that needed to be attended too and cleaned up which was our
job. At this trail, about 10 students and myself walked the trail in the very cold weather picking up
trash and cleaning up all the items that people left behind. Even though the trail did contain some a
lot of litter and the weather was very brutal, the trail was a beautiful location full of lively colors
and beautiful trees that made the trip somewhat enjoyable. Through my volunteering at the Henry
Hudson Trail, I now understand better the problem of littering. Before this experience,... Show more

message of no littering. Even though I have not acquired a love for cleaning up trails, this service

people whose job it is to clean up the environment. I have gained a better understanding of nature

A Report On The Albuquerque Police Department
The Albuquerque Police Department has shot twice as many people as the police departments in
cities of similar size (Kim). Police officials claim that Albuquerque has a high number dangerous
situations and that firing their weapons is necessary, which hasn t been proven. Many individuals
argue that shooting dangerous suspects is necessary for the policeto do their jobs adequately and to
protect themselves, which isn t the case in every situation. Some departments within the
Albuquerque Police Department are in need of reform to prevent the number of fatal police
shootings within the city. The Albuquerque Police Department would highly benefit from reforms
geared toward their officers training. It s clear that there is a problem within the department
because of the high number of shootings perpetrated by police. Compared to other cities around the
nation, it becomes evident that the number of fatal shootings is highly abnormal, and that reform is
necessary to prevent that number from rising even higher. Another factor that proves reform is
necessary is that many of the fatally shot were mentally ill, and not criminals. If police were
trained on how to deescalate situations instead of shoot, it could prevent unnecessary deaths. Police
learning to differentiate between situations when shooting a suspect is required or not could also
save the city money. If reform doesn t happen quickly, it invites more problems. Officers may see
that their colleagues aren t being punished

Caste Discrimination in Politics
In A Fine Balance, Mistry investigates the subaltern status of the Dalits and the impact of
untouchability on politics. At that point, Mistry highlights the cruelty of political issues in this

Interviews on Human Development Through Three Generations
The research project given in psychology class was to pick a topic and interview three
generations on the subject of my choice. In this paper I will talk about the following; each person I
interviewed, their responses to the questions, the difficulties I faced, the stages of development
each generation is experiencing, relating each generation to a theory, compare the similarities and
differences each generation is experiencing in their stage of development, and what I learned from
this experience. The topic I explored for each generation was music. Music can be a emotional
experience, bring out feeling that we may be experiencing at that time, bring people together, and
memories of the past. The three generations I picked to interview was an adolescence, early
adulthood, and middle adulthood. The interview process started with the youngest age group and
ended with the eldest age of the group. I had a series of interview questions and based on the age
groups all the questions were the same for each generation. The following research questions were
asked to all three generations:
1. What kind of music did you listen to when you were younger and has your music style changed
over the years?
2. How did you buy your music and where?
3. What kind of device did you listen to your music on?
4. Does your mood determine the kind of music you listen too? Give me an example.

Many have defined the term realism but these definitions by Watt and Williams can be easily
applied to my choice of media text, which is the British soap opera.
Fiske writes that Watt and Williams ....tend to define it by its content. Watt traces its origins to the
rise of the novel in the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries. And Williams ...whose historical
perspective covers the nineteenth and twentieth centuries, lists three main characteristics of realism

The Socially extended characteristic can be seen with most of the main characters working in the
factory or pub. Although characters are present that wouldn t be strictly defined as working class
such as Mike Baldwin who owns the factory or Natalie Barnes who owns the pub, in Coronation
Street it is important to note that these characters are easily immediately visible to the working class.
Many commentators compare British Soaps with American soaps when discussing Realism.
Realism is one of those words, like morality or wealth, whose definition is subjective. On the soaps
reality is an artificial thing that is always being manipulated for the plot s benefit... British soaps
work in a naturalistic context which the American soaps do not attempt.....the British go for what I
might call a flattened reality, a middle brow nuts and bolts, everyday sort of reality.
(All For Love, A Study in Soap Opera, Peter Buckingham, Secker Warberg 1984, p.45)
American Soap Operas such as Dallas or Dynasty are set in a contemporary setting but they are
not concerned with secular action. These soaps rely on extravagant story lines, a famous one being
one character being abducted by aliens this is not the typical experience of the working class as
discussed by Williams.
These American Soaps also don t conform to the Socially

Types of theories
Cognitive theory refers to seeing problem behaviors on television this brings additional information
to the memory which is in relation to the behavior. Thus, when someone view tobacco and alcohol
by role models, they are more tempted to consume tobacco and alcohol.(Hansen)
Social learning theory explains that when someone view health risk and problem behaviors on
television, this desensitize viewers and this is considered as positive towards such behaviors.

These theories are supported by the experiment and quasi experiment carried out on the behaviors

All living things ultimately depend on this process. The compounds plants make during
photosynthesis provide nutrients and energy to organisms that consume plants. Organisms that
consume the plant eaters gain nutrients and energy from them, so both energy and materials are
passed from organism to organism. Plants capture light energy and transform it into chemical
energy. This chemical energy is transferred from plants to animals via the food chains.
Respiration: the process by which cells obtain energy. In this process, organic molecules,
particularly sugars, are broken down to produce carbon dioxide and water, and energy is
released. Without photosynthesis there would not be energy or carbohydrates available for the
growth and reproduction of (almost) all organisms. In addition photosynthesis produces oxygen,
which is essential for the release of energy in cells by the process of respiration. Uses of Energy
by Organisms Energy from respiration powers all the processes of life. Some energy is released
as heat. Other activities include: * Growth * Muscle contraction and movement * Synthesis of
complex chemicals * Repair of damaged cells * Reproduction Aerobic Cellular Respiration

The Collapse Of Indymac Bank
The Collapse of IndyMac Bank
In 2008 the world faced the worst financial crisis since the great depression. Many banks closed
their doors for good that year. Among them were both small and large banks. One specific bank
that collapsed that year was IndyMac, one of the largest banks in the United States. IndyMac
marked the largest collapse of a Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC) insured institution
since 1984, when Continental Illinois, which had $40 billion in assets, failed, according to FDIC
records ( The Fall of IndyMac 2008). This paper will talk about the cause of the collapse of
IndyMac in 2008, the handling of the issues, as well as the aftermath of the collapse. IndyMac was
created by David Loeb and Angelo Mozilo in 1985 and was originally called Countrywide Mortgage
Investment. It was built to collect Countrywide Financial loans that were too large to be sold to
Fannie Mae or Freddie Mac. IndyMac Bank was the largest savings and loan association in the
Los Angeles area and the seventh largest mortgage originator in the United States ( Too Good to
Be True: The Fall of IndyMac , 2008). In 1999, IndyMac loaned out record amounts. In the first
quarter alone IndyMac loaned out $1.6 billion. In July of 2000, IndyMac became IndyMac Bank
when it acquired SGV Bancorp. The total purchase cost was $62.5 million and it made IndyMac
Bank the ninth largest bank at the time. IndyMac was also the 28th biggest lender in the country(

Social Disruption Of Women In Germany
This government created a society that encouraged a New Women encouraging women to break

suffrage, being one of the only nations allowing women voters. College education was for the first
time accessible to women and for many it was the first time participating in politics. Berlin, and
other big German metropolitan cities, was the hubcap of this liberal movement; here, modern styles
of dress and feminist thought became popular. Due to the significant depletion of men in society
due to the war, in 1919 almost a 2 million surplus of women to men, women began taking on

The Third Wave Of Feminism In The Early 20th Century
Feminism is still very much needed in this day in age. Although Feminism has come a long way
since being first introduced in the early 20th century, the movement faces new challenges. Women
have accomplished the goals they had set from the first wave of Feminism, including the right to
vote, the right to work, and the right to have custodial rights over their children. The second wave
of Feminismfocus was for women to have sexuality and reproductive rights. Women gained their
reproductive rights in the Roe vs. Wade (1973). In Roe vs. Wade, women gained the right to have
abortions. The third wave of Feminism, which is continuing right now, focuses on universal
womanhood; how women are portrayed in society. Although women have accomplished some of

George S. Patton s Accomplishments
George S. Patton
George S. Patton was one of the most highly regarded and successful military leaders in the
history of the United States. His military career spanned from the expedition into Mexico
throughout WWII. His ability to inspire his troops with his profane filled speeches and his position
of always leading from the front gained him vast popularity and fame. Many political leaders
considered him too controversial and intemperate at times. This reputation often overshadowed his
determination and success as a commander. His bravery and many contributions to several of
America s war efforts has established him as one of the greats in American military history.
At a young age George S. Patton knew he wanted to be in the military. His ancestors had served in
the American Revolution, the Mexican War, and the Civil War. (Randall and Nahr iii) This is
largely the reason behind his intense determination and drive. Fueled off their tales of bravery
and heroic endeavors, he never had a doubt that he was going to live the life of a military hero.
Despite a learning disability, many believe he had dyslexia, he would go onto to attend the Virginia
Military Institute and ultimately graduate from West Point. Upon his graduation he achieved the
rank of 2nd lieutenant and was stationed at Fort Sheridan, Illinois. The years after his graduation
were eventful for George Patton. He participated in the 1912 Olympics in a variety of sports. He

The Pantheon in Rome and the Candi Prambanan in Indonesia
Around the world people have been known to dedicate themselves and their families to a certain
type of religion or God. Practicing religion has been a major part of peoples daily rituals for
centuries. Believing in a higher power than ones own takes full dedication to that certain
religion or God(s). In order to give respect and be able to apply action into these beliefs it has
became a tradition around the world to build a place of worship. These places of worship are
referred to differently across the world depending on location and the religion being practiced.
More specifically the Templeis a building that is devoted for worshiping but also is known to
house a multitude of religions depending on its location. For example, the Romans have been
known to house their Gods in Temples usually with a multitude of columns to incase a statue of a
God or Gods. Similarly, the people of Indonesia have been building decorative Candi (Indonesian
word for Temple) to praise and worship their Gods.4 For instance, the Romans constructed The
Pantheon, dedicated to the Gods of Ancient Romecompared to Candi Prambanan built by the
Indonesians in order to worship the concept of Trimurti. 3 The link between these two cultures can

of separate sacred rooms and what these Temples represent for their culture, but are able to be

The Civil Rights Movement And The Civil Rights Movement
The 60 s was a platform for all kinds of cultural revolution. Two of these included the Civil Rights
and anti war Vietnam movements which both emerged at the same time that the Cold War
unfolded. Both of these movements overlapped in numerous ways; they both struggled with the
government trying to silence them to keep an image, with media distortion, not having a clear main
focus, and more. They both related political struggles to domestic ones.
The focus is on two things. The first being the look at the Civil Rights movement under the heat of
the Cold Warand how it affected the movement. The second thing is the anti war Vietnam protests
and how the Civil Rights movement partially contributed to that. It s a look at how both of these
movements were ties from political struggles to domestic struggles. A look at the interactions of
both these movements during their struggles.
The Cold War was a time of high tensions between the Soviet Union and the United Stateswhich
consequently served a purpose in the Civil Rights movement as well. The spotlight directed
towards America forced the government to create a pristine image of America to maintain the
idea that they were capable of being leaders. As Mary L. Dudziak states in Cold War Civil

What Does Fragment 123 Mean
Heidegger also believed that we have been interpreting certain pre Socratics wrong. One such pre
Socratic is Heraclitus. More specifically, Heidegger believed that Fragment 123 of Heraclitus in
which he mentions Physis has also been translated falsely, giving the words false definitions as
well as false philosophical theories behind it. Traditionally, Fragment 123 is translated into that
nature likes to hide . Instead of the traditional interpretation of how nature likes to hide, Heidegger
believed that when Heraclitus mentioned Physis, he was referring to Being. More specifically, he
was referring to Being in the Heideggarian context, which is referring to the appearing of that

Heidegger believed that being is unchanging, but change is becoming. In other words, being is
something that cannot change, but at the same time, change is something that is heading towards a
fulfillment, or a state of becoming in which no longers and not yets are changing due to their
achievement. Likewise, Dasein is also becoming, but it is not actualizing. Dasein is trying to head
towards its self fulfillment in which Daseins spend their entire lives trying to do, but are never fully
able to reach the goal of self actualization. As a result, beings are something that are constantly
being, while at the same time, constantly becoming, heading towards their self actualization.
Heidegger additionally pointed out that what is no longer has to become, because it is coming into
appearance. To put it in a different perspective, what is becoming is something that is something
that cannot exist anymore, because it is heading towards its true self, and its ultimate demise. It is
overall the appearance and the manifestation of something, it is something that is

Using Compact And High Performance Wireless Communication...
Chapter 1
Introduction
The patch antenna plays a very important role in today s world of wireless communication systems
.There is always a large demand for high performance ,small size and low cost wireless
communication systems .in order to get these requirements ,planar patch antenna is preferred
because of their various advantages such as light weight ,low volume ,low cost and ease for
fabrication .although the microstrip patch antenna has various advantages it has various
disadvantages which are low gain ,narrow bandwidth and low efficiency .These disadvantages can
be overcome by constructing many patch antennas in array configuration. Recently there has been
increasing demand in the use of DGSs for performance enhancement of microstrip patch antennas
and planar array antennas .there are basically two types of structures which are used for the design
of compact and high performance wireless communication systems named as defected ground
structures (DGS) and electromagnetic band gap structures (EBG) which is also known as photonic
band gap structure(PBG). These structures have been used to obtain the functions such as unwanted
frequency rejection and circuit size reduction. Recently defected ground structures have been
introduced; DGSs are realized by simply etching off simple shape (called as defect) from the ground
plane .Depending upon the shape and the dimensions of the defects ,the current distribution in the
ground plane is disturbed and resulting in a controlled

Communication Problems In Communication
Communication is the art of conveying/passing information from one party (sender) through a
communication medium to another party (receiver). In people s everyday interactions, they may
come across some challenges when trying to convey a specific information / message. In the
workplace, such challenges are even more severe. This leads to an obstruction in communication.
Such obstructions can further lead to misinterpretation of a message. Finding out several problems
of communication and their suggested solutions is the essence of this paper. Basic communication
theories such as attribution theory, agenda setting theory, cognitive dissonance theory, cultivation
theory, organisational culture theory, etc. The causes of these communication problems, their
effect, theories that apply to them and proffered solutions will be considered in this paper.
Communication problems occur both in personal interactions and in the work place. Whichever the
case, the effects are always hurtful. Some common examples of communication problems are;
1.) Language barriers A diverse work place has several advantages to a business, such as variety of
solutions to company issues and insight into international markets during expansion. However, the
language barrier that can sometimes occur in a diverse work place, or any work place, may become
a communication problem. There might be language barriers between people of different ethnic
backgrounds, people of different ages and people with different levels of industry experience. Any
language barrier is going to slow communication or create misunderstandings that make ineffective
communication. An example of this communication problem is when a manager of a department is
experiencing language barriers with a core staff. The consequence of this is that business plans,
targets and goals cannot be adequately communicated. In the same vein, results and achievements
can also not be properly communicated. Shannon, Claude and Elwood (1948) mathematical theory
of communication . (Tagar, 2003).
2.) Personal issues Effective communication in a work place or otherwise is based on professional
correspondence designed to assist in the daily operation of the company or the continued growth

Weber discusses that the religious ideas of groups such as the Calvinists played a role in creating
the capitalistic spirit. In Chapter two, Weber targets the concept of capitalism, which tends to
assume or argue that its existence is inevitable, that it is fundamental to human nature, or reflects an
important step in a universal series of stages. Weber s account brings such claims into question.

have to offer the chance to develop the skills that management as a whole wants, i.e. fast subject
skills.
The word star suggests that Lidl are looking for someone special, in modern day society we are
obsessed with stars and celebrities; this advertisement says that you can be the star of the business
world and gain all the associated benefits such as money to fund the lifestyle of this creature, but
also the social benefits such as respect and interest from others.
Cadbury s (p. 91) graduate jobs advertisement in the guide shows a reminder of the popular
gorilla television advert for the firm s products. This image links to our culture, what is cool and
modern, again showing the link between the world of management and society overall. It is also
recent, showing that it is aimed at young professionals who can do it all; they can gain a good
degree whilst also being aware of what is going on socially around them. Along with using the
expected language, the text includes the word brand which attracts prospective employees because
they want to work for this company so when they tell people where they work, the people will
know where it is and be interested.
At the bottom of this advertisement, it says we love what we do. We think

Pogo s Circus also features a bonus game, which is based entirely around circus horrors . You will

The Theme Of Freedom In Sorry For Your Loss By Bridget Keehan
Life can change in an instant; one moment you are a free bird flying high and in the next you live
in a cage surrounded by darkness. Some people say that freedom is one of the biggest lib erties of
man, but what happens when all that is taken away. The importance of freedom and how quickly
things can change are the central themes in the short storySorry for your Loss written by Bridget
Keehan in 2008, where the author paints a picture of a life without free dom.
A third person narrator tells the story, the point of view being the chaplainEvie. The fact that Evie
is the one, who tells the story, has a significant effect, because it is through her eyes that we
experience everything. Therefore her thoughts and feelings affect the opinion ... Show more content

In life you generally don t get a lot of second chances and some mistakes can be irreversi ble.
What would happen if you like Victor in the story lost you freedom completely? And how do
handle working in an environment, where the closest thing to freedom a window that shows the
parking lot? It is not easy, and sometimes not even praying is enough to make it all better. So even
though you might wish everyone were as innocent as they seemed, you need to face the reality that
life is not a wish granting factory, and people have to suffer the conse quences for their action even
though it might only be the sin that is evil and not the

Examples Of Absurdism In The Birthday Party By Harold Pinter
Harold Pinter is one of the most prominent living dramatists of the age. The seventy three year old
Pinter, who has written twenty nine plays and twenty one screen plays and who has directed twenty
seven theater productions, is one of the early practitioners of the Theater of the Absurd which
started in the fifties. Absurd, which is one of the many different aspects of his works, functions as a
means of getting into the reality that is Pinter s main concern.
Harold Pinter belongs to the group of the twentieth century absurdist playwrights who came to
become known as the innovators of an Avant garde style in their playwritings by breaking away
from the old concepts of morality, religion and sentimentality. The post world war playwrights and
writers such as Beckett, Eugene Ionesco, Genet, Adamov and T. S. Eliot became well aware of the
social, political and economic tribulations that jeopardized the existence of modern man. The utter
helplessness of man and his futile efforts to escape resulted in the emergence of the theories of
absurdism and existentialism, and there was a shift in the definition of what was considered the
real and the unreal. Harold Pinter s play The Birthday Party explicates the sense of absurdity of
human life trapped in a claustrophobic atmosphere. The theme of absurdism in Pinter s The
birthday Party consists in the playwright s implication that there is no logical progression of the plot.

The tragic plays Macbeth and Hamlet offer segments of comedy that shift the play s perspective, if
only for the briefest moments. For example, Hamlet s wit and the porter scene in Macbeth offer
moments of comedy to alleviate the drama s intensity. Other influences on the absurdist playwrights
include the work of Sigmund Freud, and the Surrealist movement of the 1920s and 1930s, which
introduced the avant garde to mainstream

Niosh Equation Essay
The NIOSH equation has helped with predicting the risk of getting injured while lifting things.
The NIOSH equation helps determine what a weight should be for a lift for different tasks that
people do over there shift. The NIOSH equation is very important because back injuries are the
most common injury at work. The lower back area on people is the area where most people tend
to hurt while lifting items. The way the NIOSH equation works it helps determine a
recommended weight for a specific task (RWL) that a person would accomplish during their
normal workday which consists to be an 8 hour work day. The NIOSH equation for RWL is
determined by the equation RWL=LC x HM x VM x DM x AM x FM x CM. The equation is
based on six different areas. The six different acronyms mean: LC = How much an object
weighs, HM = the horizontal distance of a person s hands to what would be the midpoint of their
ankles, VM = is the distance between your hands to the floor when your hands are vertical, DM =
is the vertical distance between where the lift starts to the final placement of the lift, AM = Angle
of asymmetry, FM = Average rate of lifts done per minute and CM = is a... Show more content on

The second way would be that the LI is used to calculate roughly how much physical stress can
be expected from a job task and what the injury risks are for performing the job tasks with that
lifting procedure. The rule of thumb for again is that if the LI value is smaller a person
performing the job has a better chance of performing there tasks for their job safely without
hurting there back. It s also a good rule of thumb to compare at least two preferably more designs
for the same task. The last way is that the LI should be used to set priorities for tasks that need to
be relooked at for better ways to lift objects. The tasks should be rated and given a priority on how
sever the task to help determine which task should be looked at

  • 2. Learning A Second Language Education Essay We live in a world surrounded by people of various cultures, countries, and ethnicities, who all speak different languages. As a young child, I attended a Spanish immersion program through my pre school and elementary school. I was absorbed into a new culture much different from my own. I grew up learning words in Spanish before I knew them in English. I also developed unexpected friendships, spending much of my childhood in Spanish speaking households. As a college student, I look back on this time and greatly appreciate the skills and lessons I cultivated from learning a second language. Second language educationshould be required in elementary schools. Learning a second languageleads children to become successful students with prosperous futures and connects people of different cultures. Studies have shown that students who receive second language education do better on standardized tests. A study conducted by P.W. Armstrong and J.D. Rogers in 1997 declared that third grade students who received thirty minute lessons in Spanish three times a week, scored higher on the Metropolitan Achievement Test in the subjects of math and language than their peers who did not receive Spanish education (American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages). Another study that took place in 1981 by P.A. Eddy shows that students who have received second language learning, do better on SAT sub tests and on the verbal section of the SAT than students who did not study a second ... The article was easy to understand due to having a background in phonetics and know the different types of place, manner and voicing. Introduction: According to the article, there is documentation that there are early intervention programs out in the world. The congress, of 1986, encouraged others to design early intervention for toddlers and infants with disabilities. There is (1/4) of children in the world that qualify for early interventions and demonstrate some type of communication disorder. There are many other studies that have been done that concluded there is little known about the effectiveness of treatments on toddlers with cleft palate who enrolled in early intervention services. According to Blakeley and Brockman (1995), they described 41 children that do have cleft palate who enrolled in 4 year treatment plan at the age of 12 months. 66% of the children also received articulation therapy from an SLP. The results showed 93% of them showed normal articulation by age 5 and 88% had normal expressive language also by the age of 5. Early intervention helps children, with delays, in speech sound development and expressive language focus on the extending of the child s lexical development. Lexical development refers to stages or steps in a process involving change. One primary therapy goal would be SLP s expanding the client s consonant inventory, of early intervention. Sir Thomas More Sir Thomas More UTOPIA Sir Thomas More, son of Sir John More, a justice of King s Bench, after his earlier education at St. Anthony s, he was placed, as a boy, in the household of Cardinal John Morton, Archbishop of Canterbury and Lord Chancellor. It was not usual for persons of wealth or influence and sons of good families to be so established together in a relation of patron and client. The youth wore his patron s livery, and added to his state. The patron used, afterwards, his wealth or influence in helping his young client forward in the world. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For Thomas More, like for other leaders too, an appeal to understanding it isn t the preferred method of transmitting important principles. A leader prefers to communicate in a clear, compelling and memorable way, as he does once in a while. But he understands that there are many other situations where a direct appeal and modest understanding is the most effective way to communicate a deep conviction. This approach works paradoxically. When a leader appeals to understanding, he gives to others a part of its power, rather than assert its own authority; he encourages others to trust him, by having first trust in others and shows its power and confidence by acting with modesty and humility. The appeals for understanding have another advantage: they are a way to a way to encourage others to strive to understand what the leader is doing and thinks. Morus has done this with many people around him, and even now, after so many centuries, his story troubles people and makes them analyze their lives and values. The value of these efforts is expressed by the African proverb which says: When I pray for bread and I get it, I think at bread and I forgot about God. When I pray for bread and I don t get it, I think of God. More preferred the means of communication that challenge, and not the simple and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Feminism In Wonder Woman Who doesn t love a good superhero? The perfect figure, the spandex suit, the flowing cape, flawless looks, and the powers we can only dream of having. Superheroes have been around for ages now, leaving an everlasting imprint on our hearts. It is no secret that males dominate the superhero industry; both the heroes themselves and those who create them. Superman, Batman, Ironman, and Spiderman have become the top heroes of all time; there is nothing wrong with them holding the spotlight, but female heroes are underrepresented. There are notable female heroes, but they tend to be drawn with a busty figure that few women are naturally blessed with, and show little emotional rational in fights. Take Black Widow (Marvel) for example, anyone would love for her figure and kick ass moves. Wonder Woman is our hero of the hour, she has made her way onto the big screen; casting her into the spotlight more than ever. She screams fights for love, promotes peace, is a beacon of hope, and screams feminism. What s not to love? The new movie released on June 2, 2017, has called more attention to the American spirited, Amazonian woman than ever before. The movie is the first fully female directed movie, Patty Jenkins brings a great female to the big screen. Cleopatr The Ruler Behind The Myth Final Paper | Cleopatra Unearthed: The Ruler Behind the Myth Adunola Sonaike HST323, Sect. 17196: Themes in Roman Republican and Imperial History Prof. Sandra Gambetti May 24th, 2015Introduction: Cleopatra Who? Who was Cleopatra? Who is Cleopatra? Portrayed as both goddess and monster in her own lifetime, through the ages she has become both saint and sinner, heroine and victim, femme fatale and star crossed lover, politician and voluptuary, black and white. A protean figure, Cleopatra defies categorization. 1 So began Prudence J. Jones introduction in her edited text, Cleopatra: A Sourcebook. Jones claims Cleopatra was a chameleon in the skin of an Egyptian Pharaoh. As such she molded herself to fit what would best procure her the much needed tactics to strengthen and maximize the power she inherited. As the world changed, so did their perception of Cleopatra; and, in turn every generation construed her differently: from evil seductress, ill fated star crossed lover to renewed empowering feminist icon. The Cleopatra painted in this paper will decidedly be more reserved, acutely un promiscuous, sharp witted, resilient, and less beautiful than her literary and culturally shambolic counterpart; the Cleopatra history wished to hide. One cannot help but to find Cleopatra tremendously impressive and more or less frightening. This woman was up against incredible odds, and before she knew it her story was over. • 11. Mary Shelley s Frankenstein Comparison The movie Mary Shelley s Frankenstein, directed by Kenneth Branagh may be the most accurate depiction of such a prestigious work of art in Mary Shelley s novel titled Frankenstein. The movie encompasses the themes that Shelley set out to exhibit in her own novel in a mirror like fashion except for the reason it is being portrayed on the big screen rather than on paper. In addition to the messages being displayed in the film and novelbeing alike, the storylines were almost identical. The movie even included the highly beneficial frame story with Robert Walton and his crew and their travelings to the North Pole. Lastly, the actors and props within the movie could not have done a better job of portraying the feelings of the characters and the setting of this well known story. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Both of these themes are very accurately depicted in the film, as Shelley wrote them out in her novel. For example, in the novel the dangers of knowledge are demonstrated when Victor Frankenstein uses his own knowledge to create a monster which ends up being dangerous to all of humanity. However at the conclusion of the novel, after Robert Walton understands what knowledge can do, he still leads his crew in pursuit to the North Pole for knowledge. Now, the film portrays the exact line of events except when Walton discovers what knowledge can do, instead of ignoring it, he turns his ship around for the safety of himself and his crew. This may be even more effective to a reader or observer understanding the theme, witnessing a character realize the unfortunate events of another character and making better decisions for themselves. So, not only does the movie illustrate the same themes as Shelley does in her novel, but it may even exhibit them in a more perceptible ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 14. Contemporary Theories Of Subcultures A subculture is considered a group of dominant people or culture that has been defined in its norms, values, and interests, which are often inconsistent to those of large groups. (Bohm Vogel, 2011) Subcultures were created when a group of people that share the same beliefs or circumstances finds themselves cut off from society. (Bohm Vogel, 2011) These groups are distinct from those of the majority and are held by a group into a broader society. Most subcultures are recognized by their age of its members, or by race, ethnicity, class, gender, and their qualities that may be aesthetic, religious, occupational, political, and sexual or a combination of these factors. However, people create subcultures as a way to feel accepted while also signifying that they are different from other groups. The subculture theory focuses on consistent distinctiveness, identity, commitment, and autonomy. The first subculture group I would like to recognize is the police they are law enforcement officers with specific types of attitudes, beliefs, and behaviors. I place them in the subculture category because of they spend their time dealing with crime; therefore they tend to be judgmental towards members of the public viewing them as untrustworthy and potentially hostile; therefore, the public view the police as being unreliable and abusive as well. The police depend on their cohorts to back them up, and mostly teamwork to apprehend criminals; therefore, it creates a dynamic of police ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 17. Comparison Heart of Darkness to Road Not Taken Essay Journeys, planned and unplanned, are an inevitable part of life. Their consequences, foreseen or unforeseen, play an important part in a person s growth. Life is the journey, the inevitable journey, and the experiences thoughout life, the journeys within the journey, are the planned and unplanned experiences that change people and are a huge part of a person s moral and personal growth. In the novella Heart of Darkness by Joseph Conrad, the physical journey through the Congo is parallel to the inner journey of the main character Marlow. Similarly, the poem The Road Not Taken by Robert Frost, relates on both a literal and metaphoric level to the concept of a journey. The individuals creation of their own direction on a journey is... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Unsettling as it is to him, Marlow identifies with this notion, and it undoubtedly causes him to contemplate who he is and rethink his place in the world, and change his overall perseption. Conrad conveys clear ideas of how the creation of their one s direction on a journey leads to strong inner growth. Just as Conrad conveys the creation of one s own path subconsciously in Marlow, the poem Road not taken by Robert Frost explores this idea, represented my literal paths and an alternate, unspoken third path. The metaphor of the physical journey shows the moral growth in the protagonist. The poem is written in first person, giving it a very personal and reflective tone, expressing a pivotal moment in the persona s life. The use of andante, the flowing rhythm establishes a conversational tone. The rhyme scheme is simple and effective throughout the poem, however, it changes in the final stanza. By implementing a new scheme here, the final thought of reflection is emphasized. The less traveled road is symbolic of the gamble of choosing a more individual path in life, the protagonist s own road. This can be compared to the quote by Antonio Machado, Travelers, there is no path, paths are made by walking. This quote exemplifies the fact that walking the path is more important than ... Many individuals argue that shooting dangerous suspects is necessary for the policeto do their jobs adequately and to protect themselves, which isn t the case in every situation. Some departments within the Albuquerque Police Department are in need of reform to prevent the number of fatal police shootings within the city. The Albuquerque Police Department would highly benefit from reforms geared toward their officers training. It s clear that there is a problem within the department because of the high number of shootings perpetrated by police. Compared to other cities around the nation, it becomes evident that the number of fatal shootings is highly abnormal, and that reform is necessary to prevent that number from rising even higher. Another factor that proves reform is necessary is that many of the fatally shot were mentally ill, and not criminals. If police were trained on how to deescalate situations instead of shoot, it could prevent unnecessary deaths. • 50. Examples Of Absurdism In The Birthday Party By Harold Pinter Harold Pinter is one of the most prominent living dramatists of the age. The seventy three year old Pinter, who has written twenty nine plays and twenty one screen plays and who has directed twenty seven theater productions, is one of the early practitioners of the Theater of the Absurd which started in the fifties. Absurd, which is one of the many different aspects of his works, functions as a means of getting into the reality that is Pinter s main concern. Harold Pinter belongs to the group of the twentieth century absurdist playwrights who came to become known as the innovators of an Avant garde style in their playwritings by breaking away from the old concepts of morality, religion and sentimentality. The post world war playwrights and writers such as Beckett, Eugene Ionesco, Genet, Adamov and T. S. Eliot became well aware of the social, political and economic tribulations that jeopardized the existence of modern man. The utter helplessness of man and his futile efforts to escape resulted in the emergence of the theories of absurdism and existentialism, and there was a shift in the definition of what was considered the real and the unreal. Harold Pinter s play The Birthday Party explicates the sense of absurdity of human life trapped in a claustrophobic atmosphere. The theme of absurdism in Pinter s The birthday Party consists in the playwright s implication that there is no logical progression of the plot. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 51. Niosh Equation Essay The NIOSH equation has helped with predicting the risk of getting injured while lifting things. The NIOSH equation helps determine what a weight should be for a lift for different tasks that people do over there shift. The NIOSH equation is very important because back injuries are the most common injury at work. The lower back area on people is the area where most people tend to hurt while lifting items. The way the NIOSH equation works it helps determine a recommended weight for a specific task (RWL) that a person would accomplish during their normal workday which consists to be an 8 hour work day. The NIOSH equation for RWL is determined by the equation RWL=LC x HM x VM x DM x AM x FM x CM. The equation is based on six different areas. The six different acronyms mean: LC = How much an object weighs, HM = the horizontal distance of a person s hands to what would be the midpoint of their ankles, VM = is the distance between your hands to the floor when your hands are vertical, DM = is the vertical distance between where the lift starts to the final placement of the lift, AM = Angle of asymmetry, FM = Average rate of lifts done per minute and CM = is a... The second way would be that the LI is used to calculate roughly how much physical stress can be expected from a job task and what the injury risks are for performing the job tasks with that lifting procedure. The rule of thumb for again is that if the LI value is smaller a person performing the job has a better chance of performing there tasks for their job safely without hurting there back. It s also a good rule of thumb to compare at least two preferably more designs for the same task. The last way is that the LI should be used to set priorities for tasks that need to be relooked at for better ways to lift objects. The tasks should be rated and given a priority on how sever the task to help determine which task should be looked at ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
