We Real Cool Analysis
Poetry is comprised of many forms and within each form, poets have created; stanzas, rhythm,
images, symbolism, meter and meanings. Readers must read each poem and begin inductive
reasoning to understand what is written. In using this reasoning, only then can the poem be
explained. There are many different types of forms and a ballad is one of these poetic forms. It is
usually made up of a basic construction of quatrain stanzas. The lines contain rhyme, and generally
tell a story that can be compared to a song. In analyzing, Peter and John by Elinor Wylie, We Real
Cool by Gwendolyn Brooks, Riverbanks Blues by Sterling A. Brown and The Cherry tree Carol,
author unknown, meanings are conveyed through their use of form, rhyme and the story... Show

Brown, Brown uses the typical quatrain stanza to create a song like poem one could imagine
singing while traveling down a river, Little Muddy, Big Muddy, Moreau and Osage, /Little Mary s,
Big Mary s, Cedar Creek, /Flood deir muddy water roundabout a man s roots, /Keep him soaked and
stranded and git him weak (Strand and Boland 94). The words he chose roll off your tongue as they
are spoken, and are symbolic of the water as it moves. Each stanza grows more musical as the poem
goes on, like the start of a trip in a ferry on a river slow to start then smooth as it goes down.
Then there is the poem, The Cherry tree Carol, author unknown. This poem s story retells the
Christmas Journey to Bethlehem from Luke 2:4 5 through the death of Jesus (Leith). This ballad
uses the typical quatrain stanza to create this story. Each stanza takes us through the walk of
Christ, from birth to death using only Mary and Joseph s names in each stanza. Then Mary took
her Babe/And sat him on her knee, / Saying, My dear Son, tell me/ What this world will be.
(Strand and Boland 78). The quatrain stanzas help to summarize specific moments in the life of
Jesus Christ without going into a lot of

Savior Siblings Be Banned
This essay will discuss the concerns mentioned in Sheldon s article Should Selecting Savior
Siblings Be Banned? Through the use of PGD, Sheldon s arguments of designer babies and
slippery slopes and mean, ends, and commodification, critically evaluated in the favor of banning
savior siblings . A preimplantation genetic diagnosis, known as PGD, is a screening test that
physicians use to determine the presence of genetic and/or chromosomal disorders in intro
fertilization embryos. The first argument against permitting the deliberate creation of saviour
siblings, is that to do so would be to step onto a slippery slope towards allowing designer babies.
(Sheldon, 534) Sheldon presents three distinctly objections, allowing the creation

Should Kids Be Allowed To Particepate In Extreme Sports
Children can be imaginative through particepation in extreme sports. Thus, such activities can
allow children to learn from their creative ideas. In other words, kids should be allowed to
particepate in extreme sports because it can keep their mind and body healthy. In the article,
Should Kids Do Extreme Sports? by Lauren Tarshis, it states, extreme sports can build confidence
and disicipline, and like any sport, help kids stay fit and healthy . This shows that exteme sports
can help build self confidence in kids, while keeping them in shape. In other words, growth of self
confidence will lead to higher motivation to continue participating in exteme sports, which would
lead to a strong and healthy body. In the other article,

The History Behind The Wizard Of Oz
The History behind the Wizard of Oz Stories have deeper meaning than what they appear. Life
events such as the government, economy, or something happening to an individual can inspire
them to express themselves through writing. In the original story of The Wizard of Oz , it tells a
tale far more than people realize. The story portrays the government during the time period and
hidden symbolism within the story and characters. The Wizard of Ozwas written in 1900 by L.
Frank Baum. In America, a heavy presence of populism was upon the land. Dana Moore stated,
Populism has many characteristics similar to Socialism. The Populists goals were to free the
coinage of silver and other reforms, such as a progressed income tax on the American citizens
and the election of senators in the government. In addition, the Populist Party was formed mostly
of lower class farmers. One of their main goals was to regulate railroads due to the high price to
pay to transfer their crops. (Moore) Ranjit Dighe states in his article, New research about L. Frank
Baum indicated that he had little sympathy for the Populists or Bryan . By Dorothy, representing
the American people, wears silver shoes. This symbolizes the silver standard in America. There are
other references throughout the story that refer to money. For example, the Witch of the West
summons her minions with a silver whistle and a golden cap. USAGold.com stated, The references
to gold and silver echo the prominence of monetary

Employment Policy Impact
Introduction When I woke up for middle school one Spring morning, my mom gave me news
that would forever change my life. She told me that my dad, a New York Police Department
police officer, had gotten into a car accident pursuing a perpetrator during a high speed chase. I
didn t comprehend the severity of her words until I visited him in the hospital a few days later
and learned that he wouldn t be able to walk properly, if at all, ever again. On the day I learned
that my dad had a serious disability, I would honor him and his sacrifice by fighting for people with
disabilities, but I wasn t quite sure how. Upon taking this Disability and Employment Policy, I

the ADA, the ADAAA veers away from a focus on whether the individual seeking the law s

the way that the statutory terms should be interpreted, indicating a substantial evolution of the

Mccarthyism In The Crucible
In Arthur Miller s powerful play The Crucible, written in 1953 as a allegory and metaphor for the
McCarthy hearings on communism in America, the idea of conscience is greatly emphasized in
many of the main characters. Arthur Miller wrote the play The Crucible in response to the red
scare of the 1950 s, in which he was was condemned for disrespect disapproval of the United States
Congress for being unsuccessful in naming numerous individuals who had attended meetings with
him. In a bid to not only secure his career as a journalist and playwright and also to alert the
American people against the government misinformation and propaganda that were headed their
way. The characters in the play are faced with the same tragedies and sentences... Show more

It is a metaphor because the people are so in a frenzy that it is as if they are eating the news. This
is an example of a colorful metaphor; they can also characterize, depending on who is using the
most metaphors. Parris s colorful language is appropriate for a preacher, he uses many
metaphors for example, This way, unconfessed and claiming innocence, doubts are multiplied,
many honest people will weep for them, and our good purpose is lost in their tears (Act 4). This
quotes allows Parris s point to continue in a nonliteral way. Reverend Parris is used to using
words in order to make his point, he likes to exploit words like he exploits people. While he is
not the only one to use metaphors, his tendencies are to whip up emotions to suit his purposes.
Parris not only is a great examples of metaphors but Elizabeth comes with great illustration; in
act 4 Elizabeth states i have read my heart three month... i have sins of my own court . In each
case, these metaphors also are useful for characterization; They demonstrated how she is
thoughtful, repentant, and self sacrificing. People within the play are generally under stress, and
experiencing a period of great difficulty. They speak in colorful language because dramatic times
call for dramatic languages. The Crucible was an act of desperation; Miller was fearful of being
identified as a covert Communist if he should protest too strongly. He could not find a point of
moral reference

Japanese Literature Throughout History And History
In Japanese literature throughout history, there tends to be an idea of nature that is not nature as it
really is, but is a projection of the subjective self. This is portrayed through the concept of
MappЕЌ. MappЕЌ in Japanese Buddhism, is the age of the degeneration of the Buddha s law, when
only the teachings remained, the practices were no longer pursued, and enlightenment was a mere
word. This is a concept that has substance, especially when combined with mujЕЌ, the idea of
impermanence. MujЕЌ became an idea because Buddha taught that because all things within our
lives and our worldare constantly changing, it s important to remember that nothing is permanent.
Kamo no ChЕЌmei s writing presents a variety of elements related to MappЕЌ, which, through the
concept of mujЕЌ, shows the impermanence of natureas well as humanity fading into the vastness of
nothingness. Through the traditions of simplicity, isolation, and religion, specifically Buddhismand
the Lotus Sutra, HЕЌjЕЌki shows this disastrous fleeting through a calm, poetic, narrative voice.
This paper will argue that themes of nature are connected to the idea of the subjective self, through
impermanence, and studies how ChЕЌmei s worldview affects his perspective on nature and the
natural world.
Immediately, Kamo introduces HЕЌjЕЌki with a smooth, pessimistic, poetic tone, describing the
impermanence of foam floating in a river pool. This gives the reader an abrupt sense of sadness
which is further produced through a direct

Pamela Anderson And The Peta Symbolism
Although going vegetarian is great for your body health a harsh advisement is not. The Peta
advertisement is offensive based on the bad portrayal that Peta has published about Pamela
Anderson in a bikini with a body diagram of her body parts. The company Peta promoted there go

animal with labels of different cuts of meaton her body parts. The advisement is unacceptable
because of the labeling on her body like she an animal, the statement Peta made saying All animals

diet. When looking at the diagram of a cow you can see the different cuts of meat from the labels.

Components of Open Marriage Polyamory and the Ethics...
In America, the values of monogamous, heterosexual marriage are drilled into the fabric of the
society so much so that the prospect of any other setup becomes virtually unthinkable. However, in
an ever evolving semiosphere, these other setups are emerging from their hiding place in order to
find a forefront spot in contemporary culture and establish themselves as legitimate lifestyles.
Education and understanding become paramount as new ideas and formations appear, necessitating
tolerance and even acceptance.
One of these new formations is what s known as an open marriage, in which one or both members
of a dichotomous marriage seek sexual satisfaction through extraneous partners. Anyone who has
ever truly invested their emotions in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
But as time passes, the role of the spouse has become much more encompassing: now one s partner
is expected to be not only their lover, but their best friend, their therapist, confidant, playmate,
masseuse, and escort with matching taste in music and movies. These expectations are of course
somewhat unrealistic one will most likely not find everything they could ever want in just one
person. This is where polyamory comes into play: it gives you everything just not from the same
person. According to Washington Post writer Monica Hesse,
Polyamory isn t about sex, polys tell you. It is about love. It is about loving your primary partner
enough to love that they have a new secondary partner, even when their New Relationship
Energy with that person leaves you, briefly, out in the cold. It s about loving yourself enough to
acknowledge that your needs cannot be met by one loving person. It s about loving love enough
to embrace it in unexpected form like maybe in the form of your primary s new secondary! in
which case you may all form a triad and live happily together. That kind of love.
But unlike an open marriage, which is the pursuit of sexual gratification with no strings attached,
polyamory is less about them wanting to fulfill personal desires, they say, and more about needing
more people to meet the daily requirements of 21st century life. As in, if it takes two incomes to
keep up with the modern mortgage and school fees,

Research Paper On Thermohaline Circulation
According to Green facts the Thermohaline Circulation (THC) is the Large scale density driven
circulation in the ocean, caused by differences in temperature and salinity. The oceans water has
different salt contents and different temperatures in different areas. The colder water which is
cooled at the poles is denser so will sink below the warmer water which is less dense.
Surrounding water then moves in to fill the gap as the colder water sinks, this water is then also
cooled and will itself begin to sink this creates the current. Cooler water is usually found at the
poles because as sea ice forms the salt content of the ocean increases, because freshwater is taken
away when the ice forms. The THC circulates the globe in a long continuous circle. However if
the density or salt content of water is changed then it can potentially shut off the THC, if water
becomes less saline then it won t be as dense so may not sink and rise in the same way. One way
scientists believe it could be shut off is if glaciers and ice caps melt, this would add a huge amount
of freshwater into our oceans causing it... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As ocean temperatures increase due to global warming they increase ice melt of these ice sheets
and glaciers by melting the floating ice from below. If the air temperatures increase then the ice
will begin to melt from above, creating pools of melted water that will in turn melt more of the
surrounding ice. This may not always result in a problem as it s expected that ice sheets reduce in
size in the summer months but recently what has been found is that less ice is formed during
winter so in total the ice sheets and glaciers are being reduced in size, adding more and more fresh
water to our

are trying to take advantage of her and trying to harass her, then she ask the men again to pick up
the beer cans but this time she used her gun to point them out. In a heartbeat the men picked up all
the cans and jumped in their car and speeded off. Linda said The pistol just changed the balance of
power . Four men had taken advantage of her property and tried to harass her but the gun gave her
a balance of power and didn t make her feel weak and powerless. I can also recall when a weapon

When designing busy, industrial buildings such as government warehouses, post offices, and other
practical buildings that require a great deal of infrastructure and machines, the best option may be
to go with a flat roof. A flat roof is allows a greater degree of flexibility in the future and can easily
be modified if future fixtures such as air conditioning units, ventilation, or other electronics need to
be installed.
On the other hand, deep slope roofs are more commonly found on residential homes. However, a
deep slope roof with a striking material such as slate or ceramic may provide the sort of elegant
look that a statehouse or courthouse demands. If your next construction project is going to be the
sort of building that is designed to make a statement and serve as a symbol for your town or city, a

Petrarchan Tone
John Donne s Petrarchan sonnet Wilt thou love God, as he thee? Then digest, ruminates on the one
sidedness of God s relationship with man particularly by referencing a theme of royalty throughout
the sonnet. Donne reminds his soul that Christ became a man even though man is not equal with
God, who is so much greater. Certainly, this sonnetexhibits royally figurative language, a free
flowing syntax, and a subtly meditative tone to depict the depth of God the Father s steadfast love
for humanity and Jesus Christ s humility by dying a criminal s death.

The robbed man described clearly refers to Christ and how he was robbed of his life so that God
could buy back humanity from the chains of death (9). Instead of forgetting about his stol n
stuff, Christ buys back his people with holy, precious blood (10). Back to the subtle theme of
royalty, God the Son diverges from what a king would do for his servants. The Son of Glory
became a servant and died for his servants for their sake (11). Though Satan had stol n God s
creation from him by tempting Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden, God conquers Satan by
Christ s death on the cross and his subsequent resurrection from the bondages of death (12).
Similarly, the speaker reminds his soul about how much easier was God s task of creating man in
his own image compared to God becoming man himself (13 14). While mankind s equality to God

Unfortunately, Berry was diagnosed with cancer and had to stop playing in the NFL. After a
long hard battle with cancer, with all of Kansas City s support and help, Eric Berry returned
back to the NFL Playing just as well as he played before. No one treated him any different than
they did before because that is what he wanted, he wanted to be seen as the talented football
safety, not the cancer survivor who everyone pitied. To me, it seemed Eric Berry showed a lot of
courage and it was really outstanding how after being close to death and not being sure if he d

because obviously, it s their fears. For Berry to look fear in the face and keep moving forward, it

Comparing The Film Good Night And Good Luck
The movie Good Night, and Good Luck portrays what I believe to be one of the main hardships
broadcast journalists face, which is voicing out the truth. This movie amazes me on how much
history continues on to repeat itself, in being so afraid of real news being known. Towards the
beginning of the movie, there was a scene where the different reporters were saying different stories
to cover. When one of the journalists suggested the topic of the case before the supreme court

The first process of choosing the right information system for SUC is defining the goals of the
organization. The first goal is to provide safe, quality healthcare to patients. The second goal is to
maintain the necessary financial stability to provide that care. Another important goal is to
maintain accurate and secure information within the organization as well as to outside entities as
necessary. Investigating, or attaining a clear understanding of how to achieve these goals is the first
step. Defining what the system must do to achieve these goals, or system analysis, is the next step.
System design will then need to be done to determine how to meet these goals. System
implementation is the next step. This occurs when the components that were determined in the
implementation step are created or obtained. System maintenance and review is the last on going
step that will maintain the organization and determine what modifications are needed to continually
meet the company goals.
To determine the effectiveness of the chosen information system, SUC will use the collective
information gathered by people, procedures, databases, and devices within the organization, which
is known as using the Management Information System (MIS). This process begins with decision
making. There are three stages in decision making: intelligence, design, and choice. Problems are
discovered and information of what has caused the problem or what is needed

Keystone Cruiser
In American, summer may be the season for beer, but beer maker Keystone Light has found itself
in hot market competing against some major brands. With many of the premium brands upselling
their light beers, Keystone has been forced into a position where it must be bold if it wishes to
survive. By focusing on who the Cruiser is, and why they would enjoy Canhole, they can make a
product that is far more valuable than the premium beers that they are up against.
The essence of the Cruiser is that they are able to find enjoyment from the small things in life. The
cruiser does not need much and Canhole embodies that. While a premium beer drinker may need
more expensive and more elaborate means of entertainment, the cruiser can find enjoyment by
utilizing a cardboard box and some empty beer cans. The Cruiser is likely to be a person that
believes in simplicity, is friends and family oriented, and can laugh at themselves (Schiffman
Wisenblit, 2014). Unlike many others, the Cruiser is not working just to get ahead in life, there are
also not trying to keep up with the jones because they prefer to live with less. ... Show more content

My New Ideas During The Renaissance
During the Renaissance, my new ideas became popular and more people wanted to make their
society better. In order for all this to happen, people needed to spread the word about the new ideas.
Three factors that contributed to spreading the word of the Renaissance are trade, books and
printing, and the governments at the time. However, some factors helped contribute more, or they
had a greater impact on the people. The most powerful factor was books and printing, and the least
helpful factor was the government s. Books and printing were among the most influential of all the
factors. When Johann Gutenberg invented the movable printing press, printing became much easier

Vengeance In Shakespeare
Vengeance is one of the most powerful motivators in the world. The desire for revenge drives
people to do foolish things based on what they think is justified. Virtue is another powerful
motivator, but when faced with the choice, most humans, including Prospero, would choose
vengeance. Shakespeare presents vengeance as a stronger influence than virtue in his play. The
Tempest. In Shakespeare s The Tempest, the main character, Prospero is a very vengeful man, but
he does not start out that way. His brother, Antonio, forced him out of his homeland without any
resources, leaving him stranded with his three year old daughter. An event that traumatic can
corrupt even the kindest human being. Prospero s need for justice compels him to wreck his
brother s ship and strand him on the island. He tortures the ship members with the thought of never
returning home and the idea that some of their friends and family are dead. What his brother did to
him turned Prospero into a plotting and an evil man, not the man who spent all of his... Show more

Prospero was not fueled by virtue to attack his brother s ship; he was fueled by vengeance.
Prospero did not convince Alonso that his son had died because Prospero wanted to forgive him.
He did this because he wanted Alonso to feel the pain that he had felt when he was left stranded
with his three year old daughter. Prospero wanted to be justified, and he wanted the men who had
hurt him to feel sorry for their actions. Virtue and vengeance are two of the strongest influences on
human actions, but it is clear to see, through Shakespeare s work, that vengeance is the strongest.
Without the desire for revenge, The Tempest would never have begun. Humans cannot resist the

Yus Tree Symbolism
The symbolism of the Christmas tree aka the Yule tree , has been around for many centuries.
Many can relate to being a kid and decorating the Christmas tree at home. Those kind of memories
are priceless. But would you believe, the tradition was viewed as a pagan before it became a
Christmas tradition.
The origins of the Christmas tree actually can be attributed to ancient people such as the Egyptians
and early Romans. The tree goes back to Prophet Jeremiah in the Old Testament, (Jeremiah 10:2 4),
but it was viewed as a pagan practice during this time. The ancient Egyptians, Hebrews and Chinese
used evergreen trees, wreaths, and garlands to show symbolism of eternal life.
The traditions were considered heathen and pagan symbols by some like William Bradford. In
1659 observance of December 25 outside of church was against the law and you were fined for
hanging decorations. But we can thank Queen Victoria for bringing a Christmas tree to her Windsor
Castle in 1848. And the tradition was born in England, Canada and the United States. Although
Germans used a small 4 foot tree in height, while Americans like the grandeur of a tree from floor
to ceiling. Popular decorations were apples, nuts and marzipan cookies. Popcorn was interlaced

Prison Reform In The United States
Prison Reform in the United States Most of today s prisons focus only on punishing criminals, and
not rehabilitating them. This is why so many inmates struggle to reintegrate into society and end up
being arrested multiple times throughout their life. If prisons increased their focus on
rehabilitating criminals and preparing them for outside life when they are eventually released,
more inmates would be able to get their life back on track and become productive members of

If prisons starting focusing on inmates as individuals, they will be able to address their issues
and better prepare them to integrate into society upon release. Mental illnesses are fairly
common among today s prisoners. A third of deaths in jails are caused by suicide. (Fiscella 1).
Giving inmates the resources to properly deal with mental illness, such as medication and
therapy, will help to lower the suicide rate. Offering programs to prisoners that address their
individual needs will increase their chance of success outside of prison. Programs that target the
needs of an individual such as parenting courses and anger management classes will help to
decrease the chance of an individual being rearrested. (U.S. Department of Justice Roadmap to
Reentry 3). Addressing these needs while an individual is in custody can resolve them before
they are released. This may be what they need in order to break their cycle of crime. A prisoners
family is also affected when it come to their incarceration. Children who have a parent in prison
are more likely to struggle with mental illness, poor relationships with family members, bad
grades in school, and misconduct. (Bender 3). Having an absent parent is a disadvantage in any

What Is The Theme Of The Crying Of Lot 49
The Crying of Lot 49 is a 1966 novella written by Thomas Pynchon amidst the spike in social and
political turbulence in the United States of America. The 1960s saw the rise of drug culture, the
Vietnam War, John F. Kennedy and Martin Luther King s assassination, the massive rise of the
Civil Rights fight and many other milestone events. Pynchon s novella carries the perceptive sense
of chaos, quite possibly influenced by two things: one, the decade that he was living and writing in
and two, that this was one of his earliest novels. The text explores the consequences of decisions,
illusions and conspiracies all taken on by the protagonist Oedipa Maas.
One of the main themes of the short piece is communication. This is explored greatly in the ... Show

The Crying of Lot 49 lives up to it s satirical nature in mocking Fallopian and later many other
radicals to signify the extremist nature of real life character s facades in the 1960s. By making
such a political statement, Pynchon could be making a reference to the 1964 elections in which
the Democrats snatched all the votes from Congress from right up under them. Chapter 3 is also
very important as it serves as our first introduction to the evasive Tristero . Oedipa goes in to
watch the production of The Courier s Tragedy thinking of bones, hears the word Tristero , and
comes out thinking only of the word. She herself later realizes this. It is possible that the bones
could have been another red herring to throw us off the plot. This novella seems to be entirely

The Progressive Era Of Chicago
The Progressive Era began in the year 1890 through 1920; During this time many things in the
country were evolving such as Social Justice, Government Efficiency, Suffrage Movements,
Prohibition, and the list continues. Jane Adams being a fighter and standing up for what she
believed in was described as being bold as a lion (20 yr) growing up and, through her adult years
when initiating change in the way the government and society assist with the impoverished. Adams
established the Hull Housewith Ellen Gates Star on the 18th of September, 1889 (20 yr.). This

Electricity In The Bell Jar By Sylvia Plath
Electricity in The Bell Jar by Sylvia Plath signifies Esther s evolving condition; it describes both a
domineering and destructive force that she imagines from the beginning of the novel, and
experiences later in the form of electroshock, but it also describes her sexual awakening and
development as someone capable of adult intimacy. These two forms of electricity are radically
different, yet both relate to powerful moments in Esther s life as a young adult. While electricity in
the form of electrocution and electroshock becomes associated with punishment and a loss of
control over oneself, static electricitymarks Esther s transition from an almost childlike idea of
romance, absent of sexual intimacy, to an adult who embraces that sexual intimacy as part of love.
In the first paragraph, the novel refers to electricity and connects it to events that are public and
associate with punishment, which Esther then quickly personalizes and relates to her own disgust,
horror, and some subtle indication of attraction. The novel opens with the description of how, It was
a queer, sultry summer, the summer they electrocuted the Rosenbergs, and I didn t know what I
was doing in New York (XX). The first siting of electricity comes in relation the infamous
Rosenbergs, and therefore associates electrocution with punishment and treason. Moreover, the act
of electrocution is monumental, such that it marks not simply a particular moment or event, but an
entire summer. It is therefore

Frank Wedekind s Spring Awakening And Atonement
Frank Wedekind s Spring Awakening and Ian McEwan s Atonement examine the notion that those
who abuse power do so for personal gain. Through the use of themes such as: Power in sexuality,
including notions of submission and dominance. Coming of age, regarding how children either
don t want to grow up, or contrastingly grow up too quickly. The power dichotomy between
parents and children, contrasting children oppressed by their parents to those who act as a parental

Additionally, when Melchior yells, There s no such thing as love! It s all self, all ego , he is
using his knowledge of Freud and his Nihilist view on society to disempower Wendla, causing her
to question her innocent views of love. McEwan utilises intertextuality to Nabokov s Lolita, to
support the power imbalance in the relationship between Paul Marshall and Lola Quincy. Lola s
name is a direct reference to Lolita which subsequently foreshadows her eventual rape, and the
virulent relationship created between the two dichotomous characters. Both Paul and Melchior use
their superior knowledge or age to disempower more innocent characters in their respective texts.
Whereas, Robbie contrastingly, empowers Cecilia with his words. Both texts are a bildungsroman,
dealing with the power acquisition often attributed to coming of age in an oppressive and
infantilising society. In Spring Awakening, Wendla s body has outgrown her mind, mentioning that
underneath her sackcloth... [she ll] be dressed like a fairy queen a symbolic act that highlights
Wendla s innocence, juxtaposed against the harsh, scratchy imagery associated with a sackcloth,
that represents her mature physical self. However, due to the rigid structure of her family, Wendla
was bereaved from the power often paired with this process of maturing. In Atonement, the most

Black Friday is flipping the Bird
The biggest shopping day of the year is known as Black Friday . This is when loads of people all
around the country gather around to shop store sales everywhere before Christmas time settles in.
Stores began to use the term in the 1970s because the day after Thanksgiving marked the start of
the profitable holiday shopping season... (Zillman). According to Amanda Nicholson this term may
go back even earlier into the 1960s. Black Friday was how police officers described the day after
Thanksgiving because residents from the city and near suburbs marched the stores of
Philadelphia in search of gifts for the holidays (Zillman). The sale has since then tragically
morphed from the early first development, changing ever so drastically. Every year stores open
earlier practically flipping the bird to Thanksgiving in a way that is detrimental to history. Black
Friday should be held only on its original specified date of the Friday after Thanksgiving so that it
does not interfere in any way with the holiday gatherings because it takes employees away from
their families and friends diminishing the value of Thanksgiving as a whole.
This year most stores decided they would open on Thanksgiving. For most, Black Friday makes or
breaks annual earnings (Zillman). Do these high end retailers know that they are actually taking
employees away from their families? The answer is yes, but do they care?

Effect of Temperature on an Enzyme in Hydgrogen Peroxide
Introduction.
The aim of this investigation is to find out how temperature affects the speed at which the
enzyme,Catalase, works best in Hydrogen Peroxide.I hope to achieve reliable results that will
confirm my predictions.
I predict that:
В· By increasing the temperature of the Hydrogen Peroxide, the Catalase will react faster. This is
because the particles have more energy so they will move and react at a faster rate.
В· At about 40c, the Catalase will start to deteriorate because the substrate no longer fits the enzyme
making the enzyme useless.

I know that with a rise of 10c the rate of reaction will be doubled in a single cell. This is because
the particles are moving faster due to the increase of energy(rate of reactions). As soon as the
temperature becomes too high, the enzyme will become denatured, meaning that the enzyme will no
longer fit the substrate and at this point the rate of reaction slows down rapidly and eventually the
enzyme becomes useless.
I hope to find the temperature at which the enzyme performs best and the temperature at which the
rate of reaction slows down showing the enzyme has become denatured.
An enzyme is a biological catalyst which alters the rate of reaction without being changed itself.
Enzymes are proteins;they have very precise three dimensional shape, which forms a one specific

World s Increasing Demand For Energy Essay
World s increasing demand for energy is fulfilled by different sectors (like Oil, Coal, Natural Gas,
Hydro, Nuclear and others). Fossil fuels remain the dominant source of energy powering the world
economy, supplying 60% of the energy increase out to 2035. Within that, gas looks set to become
the fastest growing fossil fuel, spurred on by ample supplies and supportive environmental policies.
1.1 BACKGROUND
From the advert of the modern oil and gas industry, petroleum geologists and engineers have
followed a conventional route for exploration; look for hydrocarbon source rocks, find reservoir
quality rocks where hydrocarbons can accumulate, identify a trapping mechanism and then drill a
well. But a revolution is taking place in the exploration and production (E P) industry. Rocks that in
the past were of little interest, other than as potential source rocks, are today being actively pursued
as potential reservoirs. When considering unconventional resource plays, the focus is on finding
organic shale s. This development represents a fundamental shift in the way exploration companies
consider resource plays. Engineers and geologists studying shale gas resources find that reservoir
can lead to process adaptation and refinement of techniques. It is important to integrate data from
many sources and at many scales to optimally drill, complete and stimulate wells to produce
hydrocarbons from their source rocks. The two other type of existing unconventional gas resources

Snowboarding jackets are an essential piece of gear that should keep the rider warm, comfortable
and protected from the harsh cold when riding on the slopes. The jackets are designed with many
features and take into account different atmosphere conditions, along with the requirements of the

Layer System, the features of the jacket, and a few different technological fabrics. All of these

There are three functions for this layer, which include waterproof, windproof, and breathability.
To be considered waterproof, a piece of clothing has to bear a water column of 4 to 5 ft (1).
Snowboarding jackets must also have taped seams, prevent water penetration, and covered
zippers. The next function in the system is windproof. The windproof of a jacket is very
important. Not only can the lack of this make the rider uncomfortable, but it can also affect the
breathability quality of the outer layer. The breathability quality allows riders to ventilate their
body through the fabric on the jacket and pushes perspiration away. While the Three Layer
System is important and needed in every jacket, so are the features that a snowboarding jacket
can acquire. Features in snowboarding jackets can be a very handy necessity with some
snowboarders, but may not be to others depending on skill level. Some of these features include;
powder skirts, wrist gaiters, venting zips, hoods, shells, pockets, and taped seams. Of all
features, the powder skirt is the most useful. This feature prevents snow from coming up into the
jacket if a wipeout occurs. Similar to the powder skirt are wrist gaiters, which prevent snow from
going up the sleeves or into the rider s gloves. Venting zips located under the armpit are definitely
a necessity in a snowboarding jacket for those warmer days on the slopes. The vents are constructed

Introduction
The article Being Poor, Black and American: The Impact of Political, Economic, and Cultural
Forces written by William Julius Wilson is about the struggles and inequalities African Americans
living in poverty encounter. Wilson discussed political, economic and cultural forces that have an
impact on American impoverished communities. The author suggested the natural disaster of
Hurricane Katrina brought the media and world attention to poverty in the United States. Prior to
Katrina, the author believes Americans did not focus or sympathize with poor communities. This
unsympathetic attitude stems from the belief that people are poor because they did not work hard
enough, or are not doing anything to get out of that situation. After Katrina, Americans started to
notice and care about the impoverished communities because the hurricane was a natural disaster
and out of their control. Overall, the author explains how politics, economics and cultures forced
many families into poverty, and diminishes the idea that people live in poverty because of their
own shortcomings.
Political Force
The author explained how the government established policies and initiatives that created ghettos
and suburbs. The Federal Housing Administration (FHA) is a program that helped citizens become
homeowners by lending loans. However, only certain neighborhoods qualified for those loans.

The Ultimate Political Corruption Of William Tweed
The Ultimate Political Corruption of William Tweed In the history of the United States there
were a vast amount of political leaders and big businesses that contributed to the success of
cities in our country.Greed and the need for power can consume someone and make them feel
like they are unstoppable, but little do people know the judgement day is right around the
corner.William Boss Tweed is a prime example of what the need for power and greed will do to
a person.William Tweed played a huge role in the success of New York City through smart
politics, corruption, which ultimately led to his conviction. William Tweed was a member of the
United States House of Representatives in New York.Tweed, born on April 3,1823,a man of big
stature, stood six feet tall, weighing in at 300 pounds with a cheerful personality.Tweed got the
nickname Boss because he was the the leader of Tammany Hall. In order to understand the motives
of William Tweed, one must understand that although Tweed was a corrupted leader he was also a
smart politician who played his cards right.William Tweed was a smart politician because he
became the boss of the Tammany Hall.Tammany Hall was a political machine in New York City
that cast votes. With Tweed being over Tammany Hall, this gave him an advantage to control the
votes. With control over the votes,he simultaneously had control over the flock of new immigrants
in New York City who were from Ireland,Germany, and mostly Europe. When immigrants would

Portal Hypertension Paper
Hello, my name is Amy Gordon and I will be discussing the disease process of Portal Hypertension,
and discussing how the disease process can affect the neurological, gastrointestinal, reproductive,
skin, hematological, metabolic and circulatory Systems. I will also be discussing the types of
treatments, the average annual cost of medication therapy, side effects of the medications, and how
to prevent exacerbation of the disease from occurring.
Portal Hypertension is known as an increase in the pressure of the portal venous system (Lewis,
Heitkemper, Dirksen, Bucher, 2014). Portal Hypertension puts an individual at risk of damage to
the vessels that lead to the liver, resulting in poor blood circulation (Lewis et al., 2014). As portal

The reason I have chosen the medication therapy is for five reasons: the individual will have
less drop in potassium levels with a potassium sparing diuretic (Lehne, 2013). The individual will
be on Klor con to assist with keeping the potassium levels within the normal range only if not on
a potassium sparing diuretic. Lasix will help with prevention of ascites, by removing the excess
fluid around the major organs and abdominal area (Lehne, 2013). Inderal is the drug of choice in
the prevention of bleeding, due to increased pressure in the portal vein (Lehne, 2013). Finally, I
would have the individual in some form of antibiotic therapy three times a week, to help prevent
bacterial peritonitis (Lehne, 2013). This will decrease the mortality rate, due to multiple system
organ failure caused by infection (Lehne,

Second generation Antibody drug conjugate consider as a new approach for treatments of
TNBC. The main idea is to use an antibody and cytotoxic agents together to produce a synergistic
effect and to ensure delivery of the cytotoxic agent to the target cell (6) Our main goal in this
research is to develop a novel antibody based therapy against LRP8. We hypothesis that an anti
LRP8 antibody conjugated to cytotoxic drug will lead toward effective therapy for TNBC. We will
perform experiments using flow cytometry and confocal microscopy to prove that LRP8 is suitable
ADC target. Two main factors will contribute to whether it is suitable target:
i.100,000 LPR8 receptors should be expressed on the surface of 18 20 cells line. Our hypothesis
is that will be more than 100,000 LPR8 receptors on the surface of breast cancer cell line. ii.
Internalization of antibody bound to LRP8 We hypothesis that the antibody bind to the LRP8 have
the ability to internalize and eventually causes cell death or apoptosis.
Background and Preliminary Results: In February 2013, an anti HER2 antibody trastuzumab was
approved by the FDA following the positive outcome of the Phase III EMILIA trial.
In this trial, Patients with HER2 (also known as ERBB2) positive metastatic breast cancer had an
improved median overall survival benefit compared to the combination of lapatinib and

Ketoconazole Case Study Essay
Ketoconazole, the initial drug of choice, is administered at initial doses of 200mg at least two to
three times daily with dose adjustments based on 24 hour urine free cortisol levels. Ketoconazole
inhibits cytochrome P 450 enzymes, including 11 beta hydroxylase and 17 alpha hydroxylase,
thus, resulting in decreased level of cortisol. Its fast onset of action allows monitoring of serum
cortisol within several weeks. It also has antiandrogenic activity which may be beneficial in women
but may lead to gynecomastia and decreased libido in men. Ketoconazole uses in patients require
that liver function be monitored closely due to its ability in causing idiosyncratic reversible hepatic
dysfunction and elevation of aminotransferase levels. Therefore, individuals on therapy with
Ketoconazole should be free from hepatitis and if currently diagnosed should cease its usage....

Also, significant medication interactions may occur due to Ketoconazole s potent inhibitory effects
on the cytochrome P450 enzymes, particularly CYP3A4, CYP2C9, and CYP1A2. The CYP3A4

such as nifedipine and verapamil; 3 hydroxy 3 methyl glutaryl CoA reductase inhibitors, aside from
pravastatin and fluvastatin; and pimozide, generally contraindicating their use. The CYP2C9
substrates include fluoxetine, glipizide, losartan, montelukast, phenytoin, and warfarin. The
CYP1A2 substrates include mirtazapine, ropinirole, and theophylline. Sildenafil, tadalafil, and
vardenafil concentrations may also be increased. The CYP3A4 inducers such as aminoglutethimide,
carbamazepine, and phenytoin may decrease ketoconazole levels, and as ketoconazole absorption
depends on gastric acidity, histamine 2 recepter blockers and proton pump inhibitors should be

The United States Economy Benefit From A New Gold Standard...
Part 2: Would the United States Economy Benefit from a New Gold Standard?
With the continuous decline of the United States economy, it leaves us to wonder if there is
anything that can be done to stop this degradation. There are several economic policies that can
have different effects towards the stability of our countries currency, but one that stands out is the
issue of returning to a Gold Standard. Would this be the best course of action, or would it further
the problems we currently have, or would it even be better to look at an alternative solution to moor
our currency? Understanding these solutions will greatly benefit those of us who live in the United
States and can even have a large effect on the world. Those who understand these issues have the
knowledge needed to help us make a decision on what would be best for our country s economy.
The first discussion about returning to a Gold Standard is about the necessity of gold. Gold
itself is a fairly scarce mineral throughout the world in the first place. The mount of gold that can
be purchased by a country is even less. How does this effect a Gold Standard? To those who
argue that a Gold Standard is needed, being able to keep a constant level of gold creates more
stability for the U.S. dollar. Kimberly Amadeo, an author of The Balance, writes,
The benefit of a gold standard is that a fixed asset backs the money s value. It provides a self
regulating and stabilizing effect on the economy. That s because the

Young Adult Literature
What does it mean for a book to be Young Adult? I think that Young Adult literature is a perfect
bridge between Adult literature and books for children. It fills the gap in between the childish
books and the super serious Adult literature. In my eyes Young Adult literature is more like Adult
literature than books for children. Mainly because of what happens in the books, the stories in
Young Adult literature are more like Adult literature than like the unrealistic fantasy stories that
are often found in books for children. The Book Thief is a great example of this, I m also going to
use it to prove the rest of my points. A big difference between Young Adult literature and Adult
literature is vocabulary, in Adult literature are for example more difficult and rare words... Show

A quote from the book: Earth was destroyed where Max Vandenburg had stayed on his feet . This
quote is really serious because it makes it sound like Max has died. Also at the beginning of the
book Liesel is adopted, this is something a happy book for children wouldn t talk about. On top
of that her step mother doesn t even like her. She never shows happiness or appreciation. I think
these are good examples from The Book Thief to show how a location can make a book for
Young Adults. A second thing to see if a book is Young Adult is to look at the tone, voice and
point of view. Since in this book a very serious conflict is happening, you can t expect it to be all
happy and beautiful. Right at the beginning of the book Liesel s little brother dies in a train. This
event sets a very sad or sometimes even grim tone for the rest of the book. Liesel is also really sad
that she is never going to see her mother ever again. The point of view in a story doesn t really
decide whether it s a Young Adult book, Adult book or a book for children. There are a lot of
books in different categories that have an omniscient

The Factors Of Life Decisions And Bad Eating Habits
The Factors Of Life Throughout this activity I have learned that the life decisions and bad eating
habits that you make do not only affect your health, but trickle down and become hereditary
health problems for people in your family. In which some hereditary health problems can be
controlled and some are uncontrollable. It was also very relevant that weight and your work
place have a huge factor to play with your longevity of your life. If you don t work out and
maintain a healthy lifestyle it takes tremendous years off your life. This is due to movement
being life and constantly staying active to insure the healthiest state of your body so that it may
thrive. Being sedentary without a lot of movement is more common today in people who work
at desk jobs. The effects of sitting most of the day seem to be that more people are obese, than
someone who s always on their feet moving around. I ve also noticed that women also have a
longer life expectancy than man do which was very surprising. This was surprising because I
thought that men and women s longevity was around the same, based on their environment and
lifestyle. Though in every category I reviewed their projected longevity was 3 or more years.
Throughout this paper I will be talking about some of the leading factors and trends that effect and
advance the longevity of life from this activity. Some factors of hereditary history that can affect
your longevity can be things like diabetes, which are very prominent in

Lsc Restrictions
Since 1974 the Legal Services Corporation has worked to ensure access to legal assistance for
low income persons, and safeguard America s fundamental value of equal justice under the law.
As the costs of legal services continue to rise and the justice gap wherein 80 percent of the civil
legal need of low income Americans goes unmet continues to widen, LSC remains the single largest
funder of civil legal aidin the nation. Nevertheless, since 1981 the Heritage Foundation has called
for the elimination of LSC in their Mandate for Leadership book series affirming the following
arguments:
LSC violates restrictions set in the annual appropriations language which prohibits political
participation and involvement
Legal services would work more effectively if handled by local and state governments
Access to equal justice is not a responsibility of the federal government

Unrealistic Body Image

seek out many forms of entertainment to seek pleasure and enjoyment in their life such as

these things should provide enjoyment to people s lives, sometimes media can have a negative
impact on people. A major way the media exudes a negative connotation is though the unrealistic

Society has made it a normality to judge people based off of their looks. Culture has been
identified as one of the etiological factors leading to the development of eating disorders. Several
studies have identified sociocultural factors within American society that are associated with the
development of eating disorders (Healthcare). Eating disorders have always been present, historical
accounts suggest that eating disorders may have existed for centuries, with wide variations in rates.
According to National Association of Anorexia Nervosaand Associated Disorders, Genetics,
environmental factors, and personality traits all combine to create risk for an eating disorder (1).
However, epidemiological studies have suggested that the incidence of eating disorders among
adolescent has increased over the last 50 years. Media has shown to have more of an impact with
eating disorders in today s culture compared to past societies (Geary). An experiment was
preformed showing how changes in the body weight and shape of Playboy centerfolds over the
past two decades. According to Katzmarzyk, Given the perception of Playboy centerfolds as

Definition Of Effective Leadership And Leadership
Scripture has much to say in regards to leadership and those in positions of leadership. The Bible
tells us that leaders are to lead with integrity and values that govern the heart. So he shepherded
them according to the integrity of his heart, and guided them with skillful hands. (Psalm 78:72
NKJV) Unfortunately, that is not the practice of many in leadership, often leaders operate with a
public set of values that differs from that of their private life. The definition of effective
leadership has changed from character driven leadership to results oriented leadership and is
now determined by the results a leader produces, as long as the leader is producing good results,
the private life of a leader has no bearing on the situation. (Rima, 2000) While it is true, that
leaders can, for a time, engage in a quality practice of leadership that differs from their personal
life and produce positive results, eventually, the destructive behaviors of their personal life will
affect and influence their public life and may result in failure and scandal.
The dangers of this dichotomy are leaders that are emotionally or psychologically unhealthy and
the end result is leaders that lack integrity and depth of character. The consequence of this
philosophy is failed businesses and churches, ineffective governments, broken marriages and
families. This disconnect between the public and private life has led to a major distrust and
wariness of public leaders. Rima believes that the root cause

The View of Absolute Monarchies
The View of Absolute Monarchies
The extent to which rulers and their subjects viewed the role of an absolute monarch was
different. The time of this political issue on absolute monarchies was around the 1600s. There
were people for the absolute monarchies, people with their own monarchies and people against
monarchies. Each one had there own idea for what the role of the monarchy was the people
against it thought it was oppressive the people for it thought it was because people couldn t rule
on their own and the rulers viewed it as a chance to gain more power.

They like the idea because they get more power than if they had a constitutional monarchy. King
James the 6th of Scotland (Doc 4) says that the parliament is ruled by the king and doesn t do
anything at all and shouldn t. This is an argument showing that he doesn t want parliament to
have power therefore giving him more power under the monarchy. He also talks a little bit about
how people need him to make laws, which is also an argument for this type of monarchy. This
document is reliable because the information comes from a book written by James himself. His
POV is of a king and he just wants more power. Catherine the Great empress of Russia (Doc 8)
wrote an instruction to the Legislative Commission of 1767. The legislative commission is a
group of representatives who made new laws. The laws that Catherine wanted passed were rule
that the sovereign was absolute and the Extent of Dominion requires an absolute power to be
vested in that person who rules it. This shows that she wanted an absolute monarchy in Russia
and that she also talks about how the absolute monarchy is not to take away peoples natural
liberties but to correct their actions to obtain the supreme good. She says a man may do whatever
he wants but she is still in favor of an absolute monarchy very much so but instead for power she
wants it because humans cannot rule themselves and because she wants power. The last example of
this would be Louis 14th king of France

  • 2. We Real Cool Analysis Poetry is comprised of many forms and within each form, poets have created; stanzas, rhythm, images, symbolism, meter and meanings. Readers must read each poem and begin inductive reasoning to understand what is written. In using this reasoning, only then can the poem be explained. There are many different types of forms and a ballad is one of these poetic forms. It is usually made up of a basic construction of quatrain stanzas. The lines contain rhyme, and generally tell a story that can be compared to a song. In analyzing, Peter and John by Elinor Wylie, We Real Cool by Gwendolyn Brooks, Riverbanks Blues by Sterling A. Brown and The Cherry tree Carol, author unknown, meanings are conveyed through their use of form, rhyme and the story... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Brown, Brown uses the typical quatrain stanza to create a song like poem one could imagine singing while traveling down a river, Little Muddy, Big Muddy, Moreau and Osage, /Little Mary s, Big Mary s, Cedar Creek, /Flood deir muddy water roundabout a man s roots, /Keep him soaked and stranded and git him weak (Strand and Boland 94). The words he chose roll off your tongue as they are spoken, and are symbolic of the water as it moves. Each stanza grows more musical as the poem goes on, like the start of a trip in a ferry on a river slow to start then smooth as it goes down. Then there is the poem, The Cherry tree Carol, author unknown. This poem s story retells the Christmas Journey to Bethlehem from Luke 2:4 5 through the death of Jesus (Leith). This ballad uses the typical quatrain stanza to create this story. Each stanza takes us through the walk of Christ, from birth to death using only Mary and Joseph s names in each stanza. Then Mary took her Babe/And sat him on her knee, / Saying, My dear Son, tell me/ What this world will be. (Strand and Boland 78). The quatrain stanzas help to summarize specific moments in the life of Jesus Christ without going into a lot of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Through the use of PGD, Sheldon s arguments of designer babies and slippery slopes and mean, ends, and commodification, critically evaluated in the favor of banning savior siblings . A preimplantation genetic diagnosis, known as PGD, is a screening test that physicians use to determine the presence of genetic and/or chromosomal disorders in intro fertilization embryos. The first argument against permitting the deliberate creation of saviour siblings, is that to do so would be to step onto a slippery slope towards allowing designer babies. • 5. The History Behind The Wizard Of Oz The History behind the Wizard of Oz Stories have deeper meaning than what they appear. Life events such as the government, economy, or something happening to an individual can inspire them to express themselves through writing. In the original story of The Wizard of Oz , it tells a tale far more than people realize. The story portrays the government during the time period and hidden symbolism within the story and characters. The Wizard of Ozwas written in 1900 by L. Frank Baum. In America, a heavy presence of populism was upon the land. Dana Moore stated, Populism has many characteristics similar to Socialism. The Populists goals were to free the coinage of silver and other reforms, such as a progressed income tax on the American citizens and the election of senators in the government. In addition, the Populist Party was formed mostly of lower class farmers. One of their main goals was to regulate railroads due to the high price to pay to transfer their crops. (Moore) Ranjit Dighe states in his article, New research about L. Frank Baum indicated that he had little sympathy for the Populists or Bryan . By Dorothy, representing the American people, wears silver shoes. This symbolizes the silver standard in America. There are other references throughout the story that refer to money. For example, the Witch of the West summons her minions with a silver whistle and a golden cap. USAGold.com stated, The references to gold and silver echo the prominence of monetary ... She told me that my dad, a New York Police Department police officer, had gotten into a car accident pursuing a perpetrator during a high speed chase. I didn t comprehend the severity of her words until I visited him in the hospital a few days later and learned that he wouldn t be able to walk properly, if at all, ever again. On the day I learned that my dad had a serious disability, I would honor him and his sacrifice by fighting for people with disabilities, but I wasn t quite sure how. • 7. Mccarthyism In The Crucible In Arthur Miller s powerful play The Crucible, written in 1953 as a allegory and metaphor for the McCarthy hearings on communism in America, the idea of conscience is greatly emphasized in many of the main characters. Arthur Miller wrote the play The Crucible in response to the red scare of the 1950 s, in which he was was condemned for disrespect disapproval of the United States Congress for being unsuccessful in naming numerous individuals who had attended meetings with him. It is a metaphor because the people are so in a frenzy that it is as if they are eating the news. This is an example of a colorful metaphor; they can also characterize, depending on who is using the most metaphors. Parris s colorful language is appropriate for a preacher, he uses many metaphors for example, This way, unconfessed and claiming innocence, doubts are multiplied, many honest people will weep for them, and our good purpose is lost in their tears (Act 4). This quotes allows Parris s point to continue in a nonliteral way. Reverend Parris is used to using words in order to make his point, he likes to exploit words like he exploits people. While he is not the only one to use metaphors, his tendencies are to whip up emotions to suit his purposes. Parris not only is a great examples of metaphors but Elizabeth comes with great illustration; in act 4 Elizabeth states i have read my heart three month... i have sins of my own court . In each case, these metaphors also are useful for characterization; They demonstrated how she is thoughtful, repentant, and self sacrificing. People within the play are generally under stress, and experiencing a period of great difficulty. They speak in colorful language because dramatic times call for dramatic languages. The Crucible was an act of desperation; Miller was fearful of being identified as a covert Communist if he should protest too strongly. He could not find a point of moral reference ... • 8. Japanese Literature Throughout History And History In Japanese literature throughout history, there tends to be an idea of nature that is not nature as it really is, but is a projection of the subjective self. This is portrayed through the concept of MappЕЌ. MappЕЌ in Japanese Buddhism, is the age of the degeneration of the Buddha s law, when only the teachings remained, the practices were no longer pursued, and enlightenment was a mere word. This is a concept that has substance, especially when combined with mujЕЌ, the idea of impermanence. MujЕЌ became an idea because Buddha taught that because all things within our lives and our worldare constantly changing, it s important to remember that nothing is permanent. Kamo no ChЕЌmei s writing presents a variety of elements related to MappЕЌ, which, through the concept of mujЕЌ, shows the impermanence of natureas well as humanity fading into the vastness of nothingness. Through the traditions of simplicity, isolation, and religion, specifically Buddhismand the Lotus Sutra, HЕЌjЕЌki shows this disastrous fleeting through a calm, poetic, narrative voice. This paper will argue that themes of nature are connected to the idea of the subjective self, through impermanence, and studies how ChЕЌmei s worldview affects his perspective on nature and the natural world. Immediately, Kamo introduces HЕЌjЕЌki with a smooth, pessimistic, poetic tone, describing the impermanence of foam floating in a river pool. This gives the reader an abrupt sense of sadness which is further produced through a direct ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 10. Components of Open Marriage Polyamory and the Ethics... In America, the values of monogamous, heterosexual marriage are drilled into the fabric of the society so much so that the prospect of any other setup becomes virtually unthinkable. However, in an ever evolving semiosphere, these other setups are emerging from their hiding place in order to find a forefront spot in contemporary culture and establish themselves as legitimate lifestyles. Education and understanding become paramount as new ideas and formations appear, necessitating tolerance and even acceptance. One of these new formations is what s known as an open marriage, in which one or both members of a dichotomous marriage seek sexual satisfaction through extraneous partners. Anyone who has ever truly invested their emotions in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... But as time passes, the role of the spouse has become much more encompassing: now one s partner is expected to be not only their lover, but their best friend, their therapist, confidant, playmate, masseuse, and escort with matching taste in music and movies. These expectations are of course somewhat unrealistic one will most likely not find everything they could ever want in just one person. This is where polyamory comes into play: it gives you everything just not from the same person. According to Washington Post writer Monica Hesse, Polyamory isn t about sex, polys tell you. It is about love. It is about loving your primary partner enough to love that they have a new secondary partner, even when their New Relationship Energy with that person leaves you, briefly, out in the cold. It s about loving yourself enough to acknowledge that your needs cannot be met by one loving person. It s about loving love enough to embrace it in unexpected form like maybe in the form of your primary s new secondary! in which case you may all form a triad and live happily together. That kind of love. But unlike an open marriage, which is the pursuit of sexual gratification with no strings attached, polyamory is less about them wanting to fulfill personal desires, they say, and more about needing more people to meet the daily requirements of 21st century life. As in, if it takes two incomes to keep up with the modern mortgage and school fees, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 11. Research Paper On Thermohaline Circulation According to Green facts the Thermohaline Circulation (THC) is the Large scale density driven circulation in the ocean, caused by differences in temperature and salinity. The oceans water has different salt contents and different temperatures in different areas. The colder water which is cooled at the poles is denser so will sink below the warmer water which is less dense. Surrounding water then moves in to fill the gap as the colder water sinks, this water is then also cooled and will itself begin to sink this creates the current. Cooler water is usually found at the poles because as sea ice forms the salt content of the ocean increases, because freshwater is taken away when the ice forms. The THC circulates the globe in a long continuous circle. However if the density or salt content of water is changed then it can potentially shut off the THC, if water becomes less saline then it won t be as dense so may not sink and rise in the same way. One way scientists believe it could be shut off is if glaciers and ice caps melt, this would add a huge amount of freshwater into our oceans causing it... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The first goal is to provide safe, quality healthcare to patients. The second goal is to maintain the necessary financial stability to provide that care. Another important goal is to maintain accurate and secure information within the organization as well as to outside entities as necessary. Investigating, or attaining a clear understanding of how to achieve these goals is the first step. Defining what the system must do to achieve these goals, or system analysis, is the next step. System design will then need to be done to determine how to meet these goals. System implementation is the next step. This occurs when the components that were determined in the implementation step are created or obtained. Electricity In The Bell Jar By Sylvia Plath Electricity in The Bell Jar by Sylvia Plath signifies Esther s evolving condition; it describes both a domineering and destructive force that she imagines from the beginning of the novel, and experiences later in the form of electroshock, but it also describes her sexual awakening and development as someone capable of adult intimacy. These two forms of electricity are radically different, yet both relate to powerful moments in Esther s life as a young adult. While electricity in the form of electrocution and electroshock becomes associated with punishment and a loss of control over oneself, static electricitymarks Esther s transition from an almost childlike idea of romance, absent of sexual intimacy, to an adult who embraces that sexual intimacy as part of love. In the first paragraph, the novel refers to electricity and connects it to events that are public and associate with punishment, which Esther then quickly personalizes and relates to her own disgust, horror, and some subtle indication of attraction. McEwan utilises intertextuality to Nabokov s Lolita, to support the power imbalance in the relationship between Paul Marshall and Lola Quincy. Lola s name is a direct reference to Lolita which subsequently foreshadows her eventual rape, and the virulent relationship created between the two dichotomous characters. Both Paul and Melchior use their superior knowledge or age to disempower more innocent characters in their respective texts. Whereas, Robbie contrastingly, empowers Cecilia with his words. Black Friday Is Flipping The Bird Layla Powell Argumentation Paper English 101 2 December, 2015 Black Friday is flipping the Bird The biggest shopping day of the year is known as Black Friday . This is when loads of people all around the country gather around to shop store sales everywhere before Christmas time settles in. Stores began to use the term in the 1970s because the day after Thanksgiving marked the start of the profitable holiday shopping season... (Zillman). According to Amanda Nicholson this term may go back even earlier into the 1960s. Black Friday was how police officers described the day after Thanksgiving because residents from the city and near suburbs marched the stores of Philadelphia in search of gifts for the holidays (Zillman). The sale has since then tragically morphed from the early first development, changing ever so drastically. Every year stores open earlier practically flipping the bird to Thanksgiving in a way that is detrimental to history. Black Friday should be held only on its original specified date of the Friday after Thanksgiving so that it does not interfere in any way with the holiday gatherings because it takes employees away from their families and friends diminishing the value of Thanksgiving as a whole. This year most stores decided they would open on Thanksgiving. For most, Black Friday makes or breaks annual earnings (Zillman). Do these high end retailers know that they are actually taking employees away from their families? The answer is yes, but do they care? ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The aim of this investigation is to find out how temperature affects the speed at which the enzyme,Catalase, works best in Hydrogen Peroxide.I hope to achieve reliable results that will confirm my predictions. I predict that: В· By increasing the temperature of the Hydrogen Peroxide, the Catalase will react faster. This is because the particles have more energy so they will move and react at a faster rate. В· At about 40c, the Catalase will start to deteriorate because the substrate no longer fits the enzyme making the enzyme useless. I know that with a rise of 10c the rate of reaction will be doubled in a single cell. This is because the particles are moving faster due to the increase of energy(rate of reactions). As soon as the temperature becomes too high, the enzyme will become denatured, meaning that the enzyme will no longer fit the substrate and at this point the rate of reaction slows down rapidly and eventually the enzyme becomes useless. I hope to find the temperature at which the enzyme performs best and the temperature at which the rate of reaction slows down showing the enzyme has become denatured. Fossil fuels remain the dominant source of energy powering the world economy, supplying 60% of the energy increase out to 2035. Within that, gas looks set to become the fastest growing fossil fuel, spurred on by ample supplies and supportive environmental policies. 1.1 BACKGROUND From the advert of the modern oil and gas industry, petroleum geologists and engineers have followed a conventional route for exploration; look for hydrocarbon source rocks, find reservoir quality rocks where hydrocarbons can accumulate, identify a trapping mechanism and then drill a well. But a revolution is taking place in the exploration and production (E P) industry. Rocks that in the past were of little interest, other than as potential source rocks, are today being actively pursued as potential reservoirs. When considering unconventional resource plays, the focus is on finding organic shale s. This development represents a fundamental shift in the way exploration companies consider resource plays. Engineers and geologists studying shale gas resources find that reservoir can lead to process adaptation and refinement of techniques. It is important to integrate data from many sources and at many scales to optimally drill, complete and stimulate wells to produce hydrocarbons from their source rocks. Not only can the lack of this make the rider uncomfortable, but it can also affect the breathability quality of the outer layer. The breathability quality allows riders to ventilate their body through the fabric on the jacket and pushes perspiration away. While the Three Layer System is important and needed in every jacket, so are the features that a snowboarding jacket can acquire. Features in snowboarding jackets can be a very handy necessity with some snowboarders, but may not be to others depending on skill level. Some of these features include; powder skirts, wrist gaiters, venting zips, hoods, shells, pockets, and taped seams. Of all features, the powder skirt is the most useful. This feature prevents snow from coming up into the jacket if a wipeout occurs. Similar to the powder skirt are wrist gaiters, which prevent snow from going up the sleeves or into the rider s gloves. Introduction The article Being Poor, Black and American: The Impact of Political, Economic, and Cultural Forces written by William Julius Wilson is about the struggles and inequalities African Americans living in poverty encounter. Wilson discussed political, economic and cultural forces that have an impact on American impoverished communities. The author suggested the natural disaster of Hurricane Katrina brought the media and world attention to poverty in the United States. Prior to Katrina, the author believes Americans did not focus or sympathize with poor communities. This unsympathetic attitude stems from the belief that people are poor because they did not work hard enough, or are not doing anything to get out of that situation. After Katrina, Americans started to notice and care about the impoverished communities because the hurricane was a natural disaster and out of their control. Overall, the author explains how politics, economics and cultures forced many families into poverty, and diminishes the idea that people live in poverty because of their own shortcomings. Political Force The author explained how the government established policies and initiatives that created ghettos and suburbs. The Federal Housing Administration (FHA) is a program that helped citizens become homeowners by lending loans. However, only certain neighborhoods qualified for those loans. • 55. Definition Of Effective Leadership And Leadership Scripture has much to say in regards to leadership and those in positions of leadership. The Bible tells us that leaders are to lead with integrity and values that govern the heart. So he shepherded them according to the integrity of his heart, and guided them with skillful hands. (Psalm 78:72 NKJV) Unfortunately, that is not the practice of many in leadership, often leaders operate with a public set of values that differs from that of their private life. The definition of effective leadership has changed from character driven leadership to results oriented leadership and is now determined by the results a leader produces, as long as the leader is producing good results, the private life of a leader has no bearing on the situation. (Rima, 2000) While it is true, that leaders can, for a time, engage in a quality practice of leadership that differs from their personal life and produce positive results, eventually, the destructive behaviors of their personal life will affect and influence their public life and may result in failure and scandal. The dangers of this dichotomy are leaders that are emotionally or psychologically unhealthy and the end result is leaders that lack integrity and depth of character. The consequence of this philosophy is failed businesses and churches, ineffective governments, broken marriages and families. This disconnect between the public and private life has led to a major distrust and wariness of public leaders. Rima believes that the root cause ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 57. The View of Absolute Monarchies The View of Absolute Monarchies The extent to which rulers and their subjects viewed the role of an absolute monarch was different. The time of this political issue on absolute monarchies was around the 1600s. There were people for the absolute monarchies, people with their own monarchies and people against monarchies. Each one had there own idea for what the role of the monarchy was the people against it thought it was oppressive the people for it thought it was because people couldn t rule on their own and the rulers viewed it as a chance to gain more power. There were people in this time that did not like the idea of an absolute monarchy because they were being oppressed. An example of this would be The Twelve Articles a... King James the 6th of Scotland (Doc 4) says that the parliament is ruled by the king and doesn t do anything at all and shouldn t. This is an argument showing that he doesn t want parliament to have power therefore giving him more power under the monarchy. He also talks a little bit about how people need him to make laws, which is also an argument for this type of monarchy. This document is reliable because the information comes from a book written by James himself. His POV is of a king and he just wants more power. Catherine the Great empress of Russia (Doc 8) wrote an instruction to the Legislative Commission of 1767. The legislative commission is a group of representatives who made new laws. The laws that Catherine wanted passed were rule that the sovereign was absolute and the Extent of Dominion requires an absolute power to be vested in that person who rules it. This shows that she wanted an absolute monarchy in Russia and that she also talks about how the absolute monarchy is not to take away peoples natural liberties but to correct their actions to obtain the supreme good. She says a man may do whatever he wants but she is still in favor of an absolute monarchy very much so but instead for power she wants it because humans cannot rule themselves and because she wants power. The last example of this would be Louis 14th king of France ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
