1. George Orwell Essay Shooting An Elephant
Crafting an essay on the subject of "George Orwell's Essay Shooting An Elephant" presents both
challenges and opportunities for exploration. Firstly, delving into Orwell's complex narrative
requires a deep understanding of the historical and cultural context in which the essay is situated.
This involves familiarizing oneself with the colonial setting in Burma, where Orwell served as a
police officer, and the nuanced dynamics of imperialism.
One must also grapple with the intricate layers of Orwell's personal reflections. The essay delves
into the internal conflict experienced by the author as he is compelled to shoot an elephant, a
symbol of British imperial power, against his own moral compass. Analyzing Orwell's struggle
with the oppressive system he represents necessitates a keen literary analysis and an
understanding of the psychological toll that conformity to authority can inflict.
Furthermore, the task involves navigating Orwell's distinct writing style, characterized by its
clarity and directness. His use of vivid imagery and poignant language requires careful
interpretation to unveil the deeper meanings embedded within the text. This demands not only a
command of language but also an ability to decipher symbolism and metaphor.
Moreover, constructing a compelling essay requires going beyond summarizing the narrative. It
involves connecting Orwell's experiences to broader themes, such as the abuse of power, the
dehumanizing effects of imperialism, and the complexities of moral decision-making. Drawing
these connections requires critical thinking and the ability to synthesize information cohesively.
In essence, composing an essay on "George Orwell's Essay Shooting An Elephant" demands a
multifaceted approach, combining historical awareness, literary analysis, and critical thinking. It
requires the writer to delve into the intricacies of Orwell's narrative, exploring the layers of
meaning beneath the surface. While challenging, the process offers the opportunity to engage
with profound ideas and contribute to the ongoing discourse surrounding imperialism and moral
responsibility.

2. The Internet And Social Network Sites
Abstract
It is a common notion that we, as a society, have become polarized and that the
social media is to blame for it. Some scholars argue that the internet provides
numerous sources of information thus enhancing our understanding of issues and
tempering our views. We, as humans, also engage in behaviors such as homophily
and biased assimilation which have been found to encourage polarizing behavior.
This paper tries to explore if polarization is a consequence of informed deliberation
or just a result of group dynamics.
Keywords
Polarization, Homophilia, Deliberation, Personalized content, Social Network Sites

Introduction
The advent of the internet and social network sites (SNS) as a platform for debate
and deliberation means that partisans can now discuss issues online be it politics,
religion or topics such as gun control, abortion and same sex marriage. A search in
today s media will reveal a gamut of articles about how we, as a society, are more
polarized than ever and that Social Media is solely responsible for it (E.g. Roepe,
2016). Polarization in this context refers to the phenomenon where members of a
deliberating group predictably move toward a more extreme point in the direction
indicated by the members pre deliberation tendencies (Sunstein, 2002). Thus we can
think of polarization as an outcome of the deliberation process of two opposing
factions expressed as a property of the state of being of those factions.

Reason
For this report I have chosen to examine audio applications. The two applications that
I will discuss, compare and contrast are Ableton Live and Propellerhead Reason.
Ableton Live
Ableton is a music software company based in Berlin that produces and distributes
the production/performance program Ableton Live and a collection of instruments and
sample libraries. They also manufacture their own software controller, Ableton
Push. Ableton Live is a digital audio workstation (DAW) and software music that

No midi automation in the arrangement view like most DAW sequencers.
Does not support dual monitors.
It is pricy for the full suite version (over 800 euro).
Pros of Propellerhead Reason:
In depth audio editing. Easily create parallel channels and effect racks. Equalizer
effect is fantastic in Reason, never used anything like it.
The Reason 8 interface looks clean, and the browser makes the software easy to
navigate around.
Has a built in step sequencer.

Very affordable than most other DAWs (just over 350 euro).
Cons of Reason:

currently lives in Austin, Texas with his wife and his daughter. Throughout the
book s journey he had many different variations of the story. Speaking of the story,
in the year 2044 the world isn t a great place to live in. The energy crisis is a large

5. John De Crevecoeur And Phillis Wheatley The Seduction
Of...
For J. Hector St. John De CrГЁvecoeur and Phillis Wheatley the seduction of
freedom was strong enough to have a hold over them throughout their lives. They
express obtaining or wanting independence through writing about certain myths of
American culture and identity. This idea of unfiltered, unbiased liberty saturates
images of America. Even before it officially became a gaggle of nations, North
America was known as a wide open space full of possibilities. CrГЁvecoeur and
Wheatley want the opportunity of self determination, but it comes easier for one and
with more complications for the other. Wheatley has the added disadvantage of her
race and gender, while CrГЁvecoeur comes to these lands with all possibilities open
and within reach. These outstanding factors affect the way these two write about
American identity. CrГЁvecoeur s Letters of An American Farmer: What is an
American and various poems by Wheatley comment on the experience of being an
American and share a critique on oppression, but there is a dichotomy in their
specific views of the American Dreamand the Self Made Man due to their different
positions in society.
The American Dream is the idea that every person should have an equal opportunity
to achieve success. CrГЁvecoeur and Wheatley do not explicitly reiterate this
definition, but the idea permeates their writings. In Letters of an American Famer
CrГЁvecoeur writes, we are the most perfect society now existing in the world. Here
man is free as he ought to be
6. Bubonic Plague
During 1348 1349, a devastating sickness swept over all of Western Europe that
wiped out about half of the population. The Black Death, also known as The Plague
and the Bubonic Plague, killed thousands over the span of two summers. The Black
Death was caused by the bacteria Y. Pestis, which normally lives dormant in a flea s
stomach. However, when a flea bites a rat, the rat becomes infected, which
eventually leads to a human being infected. Since rats had a high abundance in 1348
1349, the disease was very easily spread to humans, where it then became airborne
(pneumonic), bubonic, or spread throughout the blood, also known as systemic. (The
Black Death).
The hard hit of The Black Death led to a decrease in available workers. Many of the
workers had died due to The Plague, so employers were struggling to find workers for
their land and shops. The laborer shortages forced employers to improve their
working conditions and increase their pay wages, which was an extensive plus for the
serfs. Those who were originally tied to one employer or piece of land could then
choose who to work for or where to work. This was a ... Show more content on

Many people of the Catholic religion believed that God could stop the spread of the
disease, or even heal their loved ones. However, when The Plague continued to
wreak havoc across Europe, many people turned against their religion. There was
also a large decrease of priests that had died due to The Plague, so the amount of
churches in many areas simply ceased. The Plague also caused a decline in the
Jewish population, however, the disease itself wasn t what hurt them. Because
Jewish prejudice was already so high, the Jews were looked at as scapegoats. Much
of the population accused the Jews of poisoning the water wells, making them
responsible for The Plague. Although this reasoning is highly unlikely, much of the
Jewish population fled to Poland and Russia to get away from the
7. Reaction Paper About Imelda Marcos
It is without a doubt that she is beautiful. Despite our ability to perceive beauty as
something beyond one s exterior, Imelda Marcos charmed her audiences with her
porcelain and flawless skin, her distinct up do, her demeanor, and her numerous
shoes. People still clamor for her and some still worship the ground she walks on.
As an influential woman, she aimed to inspire others to live by God, love and
beauty as she had, albeit the methods. Little does she recognize, however, that
despite her seemingly heroic attempts to reclaim Filipino identity, she illustrated how
beguiled men and women to believe her and her husband as agents of change for
several years before they finally rid themselves of the smoke and mirrors.
The focus of the documentary was Imelda Romualdez Marcos who lived inside her
personal bubble while living inside a plush home with large ceilings and walls
covered in Italian leather and embroidery. Coming from a powerful and affluent
family, Imelda Marcos has been both secluded and exposed for most of her younger
years. She was considered in seclusion because she did not know the pains the
underprivileged underwent to survive daily. This... Show more content on

She looked down on important people she met who wore outdated clothes,
criticized her assassin for utilizing an repulsive instrument with no yellow ribbons,
and even asked morticians to dye Marcos dead hair black so he remains young in
his faux coffin in Ilocos. Her emphasis on what is aesthetic, made her continuously
believe in the power of appearance than what was actual or what was real. There is
dissociation, as abovementioned, between the current conditions of the Filipinos
during Marcos rule full of fear and discontent, and the world of glamorous, beautiful,
extravagant life full of parties and hand embroidered dresses that Imelda lived
8. The Importance Of Bicycle And Helmet Safety
People ride bikes for various reasons. Some people ride bikes for fitness purposes,
some ride bikes to get from place to place, and some ride bikes to clear their mind
after having a long day. Whether you ride for fun or for sport it is important to
know the factors that go into bicycle and helmet safety. A study in 2014 shows that
103.7 million people rode a bike that year and 34 percent of Americans age three or
older rode a bike at least once in that year ( Study: 103.7 Million Americans Ride
Bikes ). The importance of bicyclesafety cannot be underestimated. According to the
2008 Alabama Traffic Crash Facts, there were 182 bicycle crash injuries and four
fatalities. In 2008, children 14 and under accounted for 27% of the bicycle crash
injuries. Bicycle helmets are 85% 88% effective in preventing head and brain
injuries; however, only 20% 25% of all bicyclists wear bicycle helmets ( Bicycle
Safety ). One of the first factors that go into bicycle and helmet safety is learning
how to ride a bike. Many people learn how to ride a bike when they are four or five
years old and some do not learn until they are older (Donaldson). Learning how to
ride a bike is the first and most important step because without knowing how to ride
a bike you will not know what type of bike you will need.
The first step when learning how to ride a bike is to make sure you are in a suitable
location. Starting off on grass or smooth gravel helps since falls there hurt less. These
surfaces make
9. Patriarchy In Gone Girl
Often times, the women are viewed as desirable objects or prizes. The notion that
women are viewed as possessions or desirable objects is often coupled with
feelings of being trapped by husbands or lovers who treat them as standard
equipment and by an institution marriage that makes such treatment possible. In
Gone Girl, when married to Nick, Amy felt she had to watch her diet and exercise
to maintain the perfect size two body and keep her hair long and blonde. When
playing the role of the good girl wife before she went missing, Amy played to
patriarchal genderstereotypes: the girl who was in style, the cool girl who is hot,
brilliant, funny, and never gets angry and lets their man do whatever he wants. As
soon as she gained freedom... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Neo noir films have been used to explore issues and progressive depictions of
gender, race and class. While it lacks racial or queer commentary, Gone Girl
exhibits class based social commentary. Both the lower and upper classes are
painted in a negative light. During her stay at a trailer park, Amy is robbed by a
pair of tattooed lowlifes that she befriended once they discover the stash of cash
she keeps hidden. Amy s wealthy parents are depicted as cold and manipulative,
while Amy s pretentious ex boyfriend Desi is made out to be pretentious and
potentially deserving of what he gets. The film also explores the tension and marital
issues that began to play out as the recession take Nick and Amy from upper middle
class bliss to unemployment and working class
10. Multilateral Service Delivery
This section will explain the bilateral and multilateral service delivery and the
characteristics and market conditions. The most important role of the government is
to decide how to allocate public services to citizens. The decisions can affect the
quality, efficiency and continuity of the government. Mixed delivery is amplified
with the bilateral and multilateral approach. Bilateral is when the government
collaborates with one organization. The government may need assistance with the
homeless population in the community, but they do not have the expertise or the
manpower to solve the issue. Therefore, the government would reach out to a
nonprofit organization that specialized in a certain population such as homelessness.

11. Neanderthal Evolution
The Neanderthal roamed the lands of Europe for tens of thousands of years. But
about 30,000 years ago, they became extinct, vanishing from the earth. (Homo
Sapiens Versus Neanderthals). Only 15,000 years before, our ancestor Homo Sapien
had expanded from Africa into Europe and Asia.(Humans Vs. Neanderthals: How Did

Neanderthal, and how their interaction with Homo Sapien changed the Neanderthal
world. The Homo Sapiens were more advanced and adaptable, and they could use the
resources better than the Neanderthal. The Neanderthal also interbred with Homo
Sapien who outnumbered them ten to one. (Humans Vs. Neanderthals: How Did We

The Neanderthal lived isolated until about 45,000 years ago they were confronted
with a new species, Homo Sapien. (Human Evolution by The Smithsonian Institution

living off the land around them, and now Homo Sapien was also using their
resources. The Homo Sapien were more adaptable and more advanced than the
Neanderthal so they could better use the land. For example, the Homo Sapiens often
lived on hilltops or in higher places where they could look out over valley which
would have allowed the Homo Sapien to watch herd movement and plan hunting
strategy. (Human Evolution by The Smithsonian Institution s Human Origins
Program) The Neanderthal lived in lower places and in caves. Because of the
Homo Sapien s advancement there wasn t as many resources left available to the
Neanderthal, so they either would have to move or adapt to the new ways. The
Homo Sapien also had more advanced tools like bone needles and knives, and an
overall, more efficient way of living than the Neanderthal.
The Neanderthal were also built much differently from Homo Sapien. The
Neanderthal were much stronger than the Homo Sapien, but the Homo Sapien were
built for long distance running while the Neanderthal who was shorter couldn t run

better adapted for hunting in a warmer climate, and Europe was getting warmer. This
was yet another advantage that the Homo Sapien had over the

In America the confederate flag is often known as a symbol of slavery and abuse.
Daniel Barkley argued a completely different argument in this text. He stated the
confederate flag was removed from South Carolina s State Capitol because African
Americans began to make this their black power flag . When Daniel Barkley
played Dixie in front of all those college kids he formed a new since of respect.
They asked him to play Dixie because it disrespected the African American culture,
and slavery. They were trying to beat him down, not boost him up. You can see
how he was boosted up when it states, He sang it, feeling the lyrics, deciding the
lyrics were his, deciding this song was his (page 1). When the college kids and his

. The Republicans believe that abortion are rooted firmly in the belief that an unborn
child, similar to any person in this nation, has an individual right to life that ought not
be encroached upon by others .The party adamantly believes that the rights ensured to
all Americans in the Fourteenth Amendment apply to unborn kids also. On the other
hand, the Democrats believe firmly in a woman s right to decide whether or not to

and include a woman being given the right to abort a pregnancy regardless of
whether or not she is able to pay for it. They believe that fetus removal is an
individual choice between a lady, her family, her specialist, and her ministry;
15. Povinelli s Mirror Self-Recognition Of Asian Elephants
Gordon Gallup Jr. was the first to hypothesize a connection between mirror self
recognition and empathy by studying evidence of great apes comforting each other.
Elephants are highly empathetic as they support and care for one another in their
herds. They can see when something is wrong with a fellow elephantand try to help.
This makes them a perfect candidate for the mirror self recognition test. Povinelli saw
this and conducted an experiment in 1989 using elephants. Years late in 2006 Plotnik
conducted a similar experiment and recognized errors made in Povinelli s with the
size and placement of the mirror and health of the elephants used, both ran into the
problem of the elephants seeing the marks as inconsequential.
Daniel Povinelli tested two Asian elephants in 1989 and Plotnik in 2006 tested three
Asian elephants. In both experiments, they used female Asian elephants, they did not
use female African elephants because they touch their heads several time a day due
to secretion of their temporal gland. Female Asian Elephants temporal gland is non
secretory (Plotnik, de Waal, and Reiss). The results would be confusing because

Plotnik built off of Povinelli s mirror self recognition test using Asian elephants by
righting some of Povinelli s errors. Plotnik used a bigger mirror and placed it closer
so the elephants could touch it and maneuver around it to understand the concept that
the elephant staring back is themselves and not a new elephant. He also used
elephants with good health that could fully participate in the experiment unlike
Povinelli who used Winky who has limited vision in her right eye and Wanda who
has limited trunk movement. A problem both ran into was the elephants ignoring the
mark because they are used to having debris on them from grooming, only Happy

Colonialism in Jackie Chan Films For over 20 years Jackie Chan has been the
biggest action star in most of the world. First becoming popular in his native Hong

Jackie Chan, as the real life Chinese folk hero Wong Fei Hung, stops the British
along with their Chinese cohorts from stealing the artifacts, saving the country s
heritage for generations to come. Despite the fact that Wong Fei Hung is a real
person, this sequence of events never happened. It is no coincidence, however, that
the person responsible for stopping the devious British colonials in the film, as
well as many other films that do not feature Jackie Chan, is Fei Hung. Wong Fei
Hung is China s greatest hero, so much so that he is China, and to a lesser extent
he is Hong Kong, representing many of Hong Kong s basic beliefs, such as
Confucian virtue and Cantonese tradition (Fore 124.) Hong Kong cinema has had
a longstanding affair with Wong Fei Hung, with over 100 films about him having
been made in the past 50 years (Logan 10.) He represents many Chinese ideals, so his
small victory over the British colonials can easily be read as a Chinese victory over
the British. Because of Britain s occupation of Hong Kong at the time, it is easy to
see why Hong Kong citizens would like to see the British be defeated by someone
who holds Chinese beliefs so sacred, and by someone who is held so sacred in Hong
Kong.
If Wong Fei Hung represents the best of China, the villains in the film
17. Themes In The Time Machine By H. G. Wells
A theme that can be made from the book titled The Time Machine by H.G. Wells is
things are not always as they appear. For example, when I went to Six Flags last
year, I went on a roller coaster that went upside down. I thought it was going to be
scary and I wouldn t enjoy it, but I really liked it and is now my favorite roller
coaster. In the book titled The Time Machineby H.G. Wells, the Time Traveler wants
to prove that his Time Machine works, so he travels to the future where he meets
two new races called the Eloiand the Morlocks. When the Morlocks steal the Time
Machine, the Time Traveler is forced to find his Time Machine to be able to journey
back to his own era.
An example of a theme for the book titled The Time Machine by H.G. Wells is
things are not always as they appear. According to The Time Machine by H.G.
Wells, Then one of them suddenly asked me a question that showed him to be on
the intellectual level of one of our five year old children asked me, in fact, if I had
come from the sun in a thunderstorm. This piece of evidence supports my theme that
things are not always as they appear because it illustrates that when the Time
Traveler first saw the Eloi, he thought that they were an advanced race, but when they
started asking him questions, he learned that they were uneducated. In addition, my
second piece of evidence to support my theme is from the book titled The Time
Machine by H.G. Wells which states, Very simple was my explanation, and plausible

(Mill, 2001)
Introduction
Managing and operating a restaurant based event requires high level of customer
service. The service management/standard should be in synchronization with other
components that make the operations of a restaurant possible. The unique service
styles of the event/restaurant e.g. American cuisines is capable of attracting
customers to the restaurant.

Hau siu Chow explains how a customer s idea of service quality is based on what
they expected and what they receive (experience), for this, the service style is
important. The higher the service standard/management the more customers
/profitability it will potentially attract; and with high levels of customer satisfaction,
the business would be able to maximize profits.
Service style
The style of service will be banquet, since this is an event with a set menu with a
certain theme. There are two main types of Banquet styles; American and Russian,
For our restaurant we would be using the American banquet style of service, this is
a very common service type among many restaurants, most commonly remembered
as On the plate, no wait. (Strianese and Strainese, 2003). Our service style would
include plating the food in the kitchen before entering areas visible to customers and
then serve to tables (Gee et al., 1984). The costs can be forecasted and evaluated
prior to a banquet event, which is an advantage of this service style (Cullen, 1997).
Our service style would enable the restaurant to budget appropriately hence aiding the
business in realizing the profits margin without delay.
Service Method
There are three methods of service, outlined by Strianese and Strianese (2003) as
Individual service person method, Captain Method and Team system. The individual
service person method has been chosen for this event.
19. Combating Worker Injustices During in the Late 19th
Century
Workers in the late 19th century were treated unfairly the majority of the time. They
worked in unsafe conditions for meager pay. Young children joined the workforce to
help support their families. Most of the workers during this period were just thankful
to earn a living, so they rarely complained about their working conditions. All of these
factors spurred the creation of labor unions during the 19th century. The Knights of
Labor, the American Federation of Labor, and the Industrial Workers of the World
were just a few of the unions established during this time. The Knights of Labor was
founded in 1869 by Uriah S. Stephens. This union grew slowly, but managed to
spread more rapidly even during the depression of the 1870s. Some of the working
stipulations that this union imposed were elimination of convict labor competition,
eight hour workdays, guarantee of salaries, and the use of paper currency. They also
wanted equal pay for both men and women, which was a first during those times. A
big achievement for the Knights of Labor was keeping children under fourteen out of
the workforce. The Preamble to the Constitution of the Knights of Labor stated that,
The prohibition of the employment of children in workshops, mines, and factories
before attaining their fourteenth year. This allowed children to be children at least
until their teenage years, without the worries that adults faced. The American
Federation of Labor (AFL) was started in 1886. It was started

21. Sor Juana
Paz s Account on the Life and Influence of Sor Juana on Spanish Literature
Sor Juana, or, the traps of faith by Octavio Paz tells the story by, arguably, Mexico s
leading literary figure in poetry Octavia Paz, who is simultaneously the leading
essayist of the nation. Paz s subject of choice is fascinating because the character of
Sor Juana has been lauded as the central figure in the Spanish American literature and
a vital cog towards its development during her time. For Spanish American literature
enthusiasts, Paz has tackled a myriad of elements regarding Sor Juana s life, such as
her entrance into the convent, dedication of her poetry to vicereine, and the
impromptu renouncement of the secular letters studies. Paz has divided the book into

The most remarkable part of the book is the mysterious life decisions that Sor
Juana takes throughout her life. Paz s account is one that addresses her years at
the vicegeral court, her strange religious vocation, abandonment of profane and
secular material, which was followed by eventual silence. The book creates an
eternally important image of Sor Juana in the context of Spanish literature, as it is
an intellectual landmark that reminds Spanish Americans of their first poet. Paz s
account of Sor Juana is an exemplary method that brings both poetry and history
together. The book shines light on Sor Juana s life and career on the backdrop of
historical happenings. Therefore, the book qualifies as a rich portrait in Spanish
American literature of the intellectuality and viceroyalty of New Spain. Paz has
been able to break silence from the past, as he has awakened a century of words and
brought it into life in a critical manner. There is more than enough in the book that
alludes to Sor Juana s influence in the fight for women s equality in the society, as
well as intellectual freedom for everyone. For anyone who wishes to delve deeper
into Spanish American literature, this is an excellent volume to start with because of
the preciseness
22. Paradaise Lost by John Milton Essay
PART ONE:
John Milton is the greatest poet of all time. Oddly enough, he wanted to be as
great as Homer or Virgil and be remembered like they were. Milton had this thing
called Photographic Memory, so he remembered everything he had ever read. He
even spends six straight years just reading every book he could get his hands on.
However, he ended up becoming blind because when he did read the only lighting
he had was candle light so he literally read his eyes out. Yet, this was before he
could do something great, so he rounded up his daughters and he had him write
down an epic poem he had written in his head. This poem his daughters penciled
down for him is known as Paradise Lost, a poem about the story of Adam and Eve
from the Bible. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Some say that they should start another war, while others want to make a heaven
out of hell and remain at peace. All that they knew is that they didn t want to go

heard the news of a new planet that God had created, Earth that has been inhabited
with humans. Satan immediately wants to check this place out, so he flies off to
Eden. All of these events are a part of Theodicy starting with how God had
banished Satan and his followers because they had rebelled against him making this
action of his justifiable. This draws to the conclusion that if people do bad deeds,
there will be consequences. However this still doesn t answer the question on why
good people are sometimes punished with disease and illnesses. Another key part of
theodicy from Paradise Lost is explained in the events that happen in the Garden of
Eden. This is the place on Earth that has just been created by God. It contains every
single animal in pairs as well as Adam and Eve, the first humans ever to exist.
Adam was created before Eve and desired a partner, so God made Eve out of one

23. Metaphors In Sinners
Respected Puritan minister, Jonathan Edwards, in his sermon, Sinners In The Hands
of an Angry God (1741), warns the unrepentant sinners of his congregation that they
will be damned to hell if they do not confess. Edwards s intent is to manifest terror
in the people of his congregation about the consequences of their sinful behavior. He
adapts a condemning tone in order to convey a strong message in his congregation.
Although Edwards s use of extreme imagery was the strongest in the sermon, he also
uses vivid metaphors and logos to convey his message. Edwards first uses extreme
imagery to connect with his congregation. There are multiple instances of imagery in
Edwards s sermon. He tells his congregation, There is nothing that keeps wicked...

One example of this is when Edwards tells his congregation, ...the pit is prepared,
the fire is made ready, the furnace is now hot, ready to receive them, (page 2). This
would put the terrible image of Hell into their minds causing fear and worry. He
then goes on to place even more distress on the crowd by telling them, O sinner!
Consider the fearful danger you are in: it is a great furnace of wrath, a wide and
bottomless pit..., (page 5). Again, this brings fear out of the Puritan people. Putting
this image of the bottomless pit of hell in their minds, they feel afraid for their lives,

24. Ecological Niche Of The Kakapo
Habitat:
The kakapos are quite solitary. They normally live alone and have large ranges,
travelling several kilometres in one night. The males range from 15 30 hectares,
females 35 50 hectares (to find food for young). Because they are solitary birds by
nature, when ranges overlap they make a noise called skraarking to keep a distance
from each other. Kakapo used to be found through most of New Zealand, from
lowland forests to mountain grasslands. They are now extinct on the mainland, the
last survivors having been moved onto three offshore islands Codfish, Maud and
Little Barrier. The islands they live on today are all reserves with no predators except
kiore (Polynesian rats). Ecological Niche:

throughout human colonisation, the species persisted copious in Fiordland and
some other higher rainfall and more meagrely populated portions of South Island
until the early twentieth century. By 1976, however, the recognized population
had been condensed to 18 birds, all males, all in Fiordland. In 1977, a rapidly
diminishing population of 150 birds was exposed on Stewart Island. Between
1980 and 1992, 61 remaining Stewart Island birds were relocated to offshore
islands, and are currently situated on Codfish and Anchor Islands. The last
acknowledged North Island record was in 1927. In 2009, a male which was one of
four transferred from Stewart to Codfish in 1987 was rediscovered after having
been missing for 21 years. As of November 2005, birds are still present on four
islands: Codfish, Chalky, Anchor and Maud. In 1999, 26 females and 36 males
endured, containing 50 individuals of breeding age, six sub adults and six infants.
The population alleviated, and has started to gradually rise following the depiction
of concentrated management. By 2005, the kakapo population stood at 86, of which

Polis. The name probably didn t have quite the impact as its parent word
metropolis , but the parent word was cumbersome and, as people are wont to do,
prone to shortening. The parent word may have better conveyed the city s size and
scope and industry...or maybe not. Perhaps that was why the word was changed
over time: as the city grew and grew, the word metropolis seemed to become more
and more inadequate. And Mega City One was just lame. In the aftermath of the
Final War (as people called it, when referring to the conflict that gave rise to Polis),
things changed. Gradually, at first, as those leaders that were perceived to have
failed were replaced sometimes violently by people who genuinely seemed to care
about the population s needs and concerns. The country was slowly transformed,
town by ruined town, city by devastated city, state by crippled state. Those who d
survived were often eager for a leadership that would give them the direction they
wanted, that put the people first, that put the needs of society ahead of the needs
of self. It was not socialism, as that was one of the driving forces that had led to the
Final War in the first place; nor was it capitalism, as that had been another driving
force of the War instead, a curious blend of social conservatism rose to fill the void,
and it was embraced by the survivors. As months became years, and years became
decades, things gradually changed. Those who d begun the revival were elevated to

28. Constraints In Negotiations
Introduction
In any negotiation process, there are always constraints involved and decision
making process involves an analysis of the gains and tradeoffs one has to go
through to reach the best optimal solution Decision making process is not just a
psychological process as perceived by many but more of a game theory because both
the bidder and the negotiator are faced by various constraints, which both have to
develop a model with both constraints and targets and later iterate to obtain an
optimum solution Here, again, BATNA (best alternative to a negotiated agreement)
comes into play; both parties must go for a sacrifice. None gets exactly what he
wants but goes for a better alternative. The opportunity cost of leaving the job must be
... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This creates a dynamic whereby the party that supplies others with rewards
obligates them to pay back in some way,as failure to do so creates an incentive for
such a party to withhold such rewards and only supply them to individuals who will
refund it for its troubles. Thus, we can observe that increasing one s potential to
supply rewards to an interaction (i.e., improving one s contribution) can heighten an
individual s power through increasing his level of benefits that can be obtained from
the association.
With the objective to the attainment goal, negotiators here are motivated to maximize
their utility subject to constraints, which is accomplished through orienting
instructions (e.g., maximize the points earned in the negotiated solution ) and the
rewards (e.g., payment will be based on the points earned in the negotiated solution. ).
As a consequence, the attainment goals, and the operators generating outcomes that
tend to move towards the goal, have an influence on the search for solutions.
However, this agreement goal may alter the search for solutions that occur within the
fundamental problem space. More specifically, as solutions tend to unfold, they must
incorporate aspects of search by the other parties the duo mutually inform and also
constrain one

By mummification, the Egyptians believed they were guaranteeing themselves a
successful rebirth into the afterlife. The reason for that is that the ancient
Egyptians believed that a human being is made of 6 essential parts: the physical
body, the shadow, the name, Ka (the soul), Ba (the personality), and the Akh
(immortality, everlasting life.) All except for Akh are part of a person at birth.
Firstly, a person can t exist without a shadow and a shadow wouldn t without the
person. Secondly, the name, which was given to a person at birth and as long as
that name was being called, the person was still alive. Ka lived in the real world
and the tomb was it s. Ba can be described as the personality. Ba comes into
someone s body at birth and leaves when they die. It was capable of taking
different form and shapes and moved freely between the underworld and the real
world. Akh, however, was the part of a human that would stay with the gods in the
underworld forever. (6) Ancient Egyptians believed in afterlife and that afterlife
was a holy blissful place: heaven. This place was called the land of the Two Fields.
Dying wasn t enough to get one to this heavenly land. A person had to earn a place
in Ra s boat. In order for that to happen, one s heart had to be light. Firstly, people
had to pass the test of heart in the Hall of Maat.
30. The Marquis De Sades Attitude Toward Women
The Marquis de Sade s Attitude Towards Women
The Marquis de Sade was an author in France in the late 1700s. His works were
infamous in their time, giving Sade a reputation as an adulterer, a debaucher, and a
sodomite. One of the more common misrepresentations concerning Sade was his
attitude toward women. His attitude was shown in his way of life and in two of his
literary characters, Justine and Julliette.
The Marquis de Sade was said to be the first and only philosopher of vice because of
his atheistic and sadistic activities. He held the common woman in low regard. He
believed that women dressed provocatively because they feared men would take no
notice of them if they were naked. He cared little for forced sex. Rape is not a crime,

He urges women to copulate as actively as they can, so that, quot;powered by their
hitherto untapped sexual energy they will be able to fuck their way into history, and,
in doing so, change it quot; (Carter 27).
Women see themselves in the reflection form Sade s looking glass of misanthropy.
Critics say that Sade offers male fantasies about women in great variety, along with a
number of startling insights. He is said to put pornography in the service of women
(Carter 36).
The Justine series, consisting of six editions, was one of the most infamous and well
known series written by Sade. While the series had several editions, the storyline
remained basically the same throughout, though becoming more verbose in each
edition.
Two characters emerge from the Justine novels: Justine and Juliette, who are sisters
orphaned at an early age. These two characters represent the opposite poles of
womanhood in Sade s mind. Justine is the innocent, naive type who gets mistreated
throughout her life. Juliette is Sade s ideal woman, being uninhibited in her sexual
conduct and in her life, murdering and copulating at whim. She, naturally, does well
in life (Lynch 41 42).

Justice can be interpreted in many ways such as being able fair or wanting someone
to suffer for what they did. However, death is not always the solution to every
problem which involves a murder. In the United States alone there are thirty five
states that still have the death penalty while only fifteen states have repealed it. In
the United States, about 13,000 people have been legally executed since colonial
times . How does America respond to this?
The United States is supposed to represent freedom, liberty, and peace. However,
the death penalty contradicts everything the founding fathers built America on.
Everyone is entailed to life even though they commit terrible crimes. Technology
advancements are rapidly growing which is supposed to allow less pain in time of
execution. So far in 2011 there have been eight executions and three more
executions are going to be taken place on March 10, 29 and 31. Many people are
killed by lethal injections, electrocutions, gas chamber, hanging, or a firing squad.
These killing methods are both immoral and unconstitutional because they are
killing the people like animals. This is an endless vicious cycle of murder and
revenge that continues because the people have a desire to get revenge on the
people who killed their loved one. Even thought that loved one will never return and
enjoy life before it was quickly taken away. In the United States there are about 3,230

what an engaging plot with an unexpected turn out in the ending! I was actually

INTRODUCTION
BACKGROUND TO THE STUDY
In Nigeria, civil rule has been restored for over a decades ago, which has given
people so much hopes and expectations for political stability to enjoy the value of
democratic rule. For instance, it is assumed that with democracy, people would be
free to choose their leaders and representatives and hold them accountable for the
overall objective of fast tracking development and improving the general living
conditions of the masses. This expectation is not misplaced considering that ... Show

The resulting effect is the large number of job seekers who have no place in the oil
industry. Even with the expansion of the industry, unemployment has continued to
grow at an alarming rate.
The poor economic enabling environment that characterizes the economy over the
years has continued to pose serious challenges to employment generation in Nigeria.
This, coupled with poor security environment has continued to hamper investment
drives and thereby reducing the prospects of employment generation. Many job
seekers who would have embarked on self employment programs are unable to so
because of the hostile production environment. Others who make attempt are forced
to wind up due to absence of infrastructures and the overall heat of the investment
environment.
The consequences of unemployment in Nigeria are very severe and threatening to
the citizenry and the economy as a whole. The unemployment episode has continued
to pose so many challenges to the survival of the Nigerian nation. While some of
these consequences bother directly on the unemployed, others like epidemics are
limitless in effects. All these anomalies will be examined in the subsequent chapters
of this research work.
1.3. Objective of the Study
The primary objective of this research work is to look at the socio economic effect of
youth unemployment on the Nigeria society.
Specifically, the research seeks to:

Brutus and Mark Antony both delivered speeches after the death of Julius Caesar,
trying to sway the minds of the Romans toward their views. The monologues reveal
the speaker s traits. The speeches were contrasting in style but similar in their
attempts to win the Romans support.
First, considering the way Brutus and Mark Antony began their speech, shows the
difference between their attempts. Brutus started off Romans, countrymen, and
lovers! He said Romans first because that was how he was addressing them, as
Romans. He did what he did for Rome, and he wanted the people to know. He cared
for the Romans as a people, more than he cared for Julius Caesar. Friends, Romans,

is a more emotional form of speaking, which is for passionate speeches. And he

Buddhism
Buddhism is a religion based on the life and teachings of Siddhartha Gautama, more
commonly known as Buddha, which translates to the enlightened one. The creator
had actually lived in India from 563 to 483 B.C. Buddhist monks and traders had
brought this religion to China around 200 A.D. These traders traveled to China from
India and Central Asia along the Silk road. Buddhism has had a long history in China,
and native Buddhist religions developed that are corrected and agreed by Chinese

There were four main teachings that had summed up this religion, that was stressed

first teaching stated that, All life is suffering and pain. The second truth mentioned,
suffering and pain are caused by desire for wealth, pleasure, fame, and power. The

Herman Meville s novel Moby Dick delineates the audacious journey of Captain
Ahab and his crew aboard the Pequod as they hunt for the infamous White Whale.
With Ahab at the helm, the quest is one of revenge, as Ahab s leg was taken by
Moby Dick some years prior to this fateful voyage. However, throughout the
journey, the crew of the Pequod questions the rationality of pursuing the most
viciously lethal creature to ever inhabit the sea. Since Ahab knows fully well of his
inability to slay Moby Dick without the help of a crew, he utilizes his immense
rhetorical skill in order to convince them to continue on the path to their watery

the mad captain to reassure his crew that their journey will be a profitable one....

39. Chemical Reactions Of The Chemical Reaction
In all living things, there are chemical reactions that happen within these living
organisms to help them either break up energy or use the molecules for other bodily
functions. One of the main chemical reactions are caused by something called
Enzymes. Enzymes are basically catalyst that are organic which are made up of
hundreds of amino acids and are pertained as fairly large (Biology Department, n.d,
p.34). Similar to other catalyst, enzymes have the capability of fulfilling their
function without allowing themselves to be consumed as well as disfigured.
Enzymes can also carry on their function without changing the chemical equilibrium
between reactants and products (Cooper GM, 2000). Enzymes main function is to
help quicken the chemical reactionrate. These enzymes work in a way where there
is a little area that is comparable to a depression. This depression area is known as
the active site which is where the enzymes bond to. The binding of a substrate to the
active site is a very specific interaction (Cooper GM, 2000). On top of the
acceleration of chemical reactions, the enzymehas two other parts as well. The
second function of enzymes is that they have specific reactants that they work with
and these are called the substrates. These substrates help produce products for living
organisms. Lastly, enzymes work in a way where if one was missing, the end
product could be catastrophic. Enzymes are regulated from a state of low activity to
a state of high activity and
40. The History of Music Styles
Introduction:
A study of the history of music styles brings to the fore two distinct periods,
Baroque and Classical. The purpose of this essay is to provide a comparison
between the two musical eras through the exploration of two different composers and
their works, namely Antonio Vivaldi and his Four Seasons Spring in the maximized
Baroque era and the minimalist approaches of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart s
Symphony. Moreover this essay will review the unique social, cultural, technological
an musical elements of each period to determine the ways in which these factors
influenced the works and styles of their respective composers.
Paragraph 1 Social:
Baroque
The social characteristics of an era are strongly influential to the attitudes that
composers had towards composing their works and the approaches that they took
when doing so. **Maybe find a quote about how social factors can influence the
composition of music*** During the Baroque period, composers were perceived as
inferiors and treated like servants by the aristocrats, thus being expected to cater to
their musical whims, often at a moment s notice. Musical directors were paid
generously, however this came with a price. They were held responsible for a vast
variety of tasks, including not only the composition of music but also the
maintenance of instruments and music library, overseeing performances and
disciplining musicians. Court musicians often earned more and were wealthier than
Church musicians, and so many of

The definition of disrespect is lack of respect, discourtesy, or rudeness. In the
United States Military, there are rules and regulations you must follow, one of them
being respect to a non commissioned officer. No matter the circumstance, whether
you agree or not, you are not allowed to talk back, physically fight back, or question
judgment. If this does happen, there are consequences and repercussions from the
actions taken on your part. Uniformed Code of Military Justice states that you can
ultimately be separated, honorably or dishonorably for actions taken on your part.

all the little things amount to bigger things. Each and every soldier is responsible
for their appearance, being on time, physical fitness and a good deal of other thing
that form their responsibilities. It s all these little things that help make up a good
soldier. A single soldier can make a big impact on other soldiers around him. This
impact can be for better or for worse depending on how the soldier presents himself.
No one wants to see a bunch of raged bums in the army. Being in the right uniform, at

As other soldiers take notice of someone doing these things it can help motivate them

effective modern interpretation of the archetypal journey, modeled in As I Lay Dying,
because of its use of situational and character archetypes. The situational archetype...

The hero of this film is the father, Richard Hoover. his purpose for going on this
journey is to change. He has put his work life in front of his family, and through this
his goal is to get closer to his family. In comparison to our model, he is most similar
to Jewel Bundren. Both characters are abusive towards their family, one of the
strongest members, and something is above their family; for Jewel it is his horse,
and as stated earlier, Richard it is his job (Typeset World). Sheryl Hoover can be
looked at as a shape shifter, in relation to her loving her husband, but then at times
be completely frustrated with him and wanting a divorce (Archetypes). She is
most relatable to Anse Bundren, the father of the Bundren s. Both of them are
quite and can never stick with their decisions. Both of them promised their family
members, and also take their children on their crazy journey. Looking at Olive
Hoover, she would be considered the child since she is innocent and completely
unaware of her surrounding, like when Stan attempted to kill himself (Character
Archetypes). Olive is quite similar to the youngest Bundren, Vardaman. Both
children are innocent and are naive to what is going on in their lives. For example,
Olive s innocence is shown when she asks about Stan s bandages; she says, Why
did you want to kill yourself unaware of his situation (Little Miss Sunshine Script).
This is similar to Vardaman asking Why ain t I a town boy since he is not
cognisant of the outside world (Faulkner 66). One of the most closely related
characters in Little Miss Sunshine and our archetypal model, As I Lay Dying, is
Grandpa Edwin Hoover and Addie Bundren. Both are a curse to their family in their
traveling (Typeset World). They would both be considered the world; they are
showing the an ending of a cycle of life , passing away, and

World War II has become renown as the war that truly changed the world. As one
of the most deadly wars in recorded history with over 50 million recorded deaths.
Great Britain made up one of 30 countries involved in the war against extreme
hatred and genocide (World War II). As a main player in the war, Great Britain faced
devastation after the war. The Prime Ministers and politicians taking office in the half
century following the war worked hard to restore once once so noble and powerful
country. Politics after World War II were centered on fixing the economy through
reforms and industrial revolutions, settling foreign affairs and repairing the country to
the state it had previously housed before the war. A substantial effort of the

In 1964, Harold Wilson began his term promising optimism and results. Wilson
worked to demolish Great Britain s debt to the best of his ability. He threw himself
into his ideas of creating a New Great Britain which helped ignite a large second
industrial revolution (Prime Ministers and Political Timeline). Heath, a conservative
elected in 1970, devoted himself to settling political and social uprisings in the
public. In 1979, Margaret Thatcher, Great Britain s first female Prime Minister, took
office. Thatcher believed that the government had recently become too involved in
the citizens lives, and she worked to create policies to enable Britons the ability to
control most political aspects themselves. Thatcher s major focus became
privatization of housing and public transportation. Although she took office in the
midst of a recession, she handled the problems that came with the difficult
circumstances. Thatcher modernized the industry by taking out older unions. She
also made a risky, yet needed, decision to increase interest rates. The increase
resulted in more control over inflation, and kept the economy from dropping (

processes of a few of Great Britain s late Prime Ministers, Great Britain started on a
bold path on its way towards

Time Warner and AOL Merger
Time Warner Corporation has numerous subsidiaries which are moving media
materials across media boundaries. They are doing this in numerous ways, based on
synergies and joint ventures. For example some of these include gaining more access
to cable lines by a joint venture with US West, and merging with AOL. They are also
using a tactic called co development as properties are knitted together by sister
companies both interested in profiting off of them. This is a type of synergy because it
occurs within one media conglomerate itself, and it encourages cross media activity
between the two sister companies. Time Warner can place some of its music on its

Consumers will be more likely to buy the other product if they have bought on not
less likely. These types of synergies, which are basically collaborations within the
media conglomerate encourage sales by adding more excitement and the cross
promotion brings all of the products more visibility than they would be able to
receive on their own. This type of synergy is also happening in another section of the
Time Warner conglomerate. A Warner Books imprint, Mysterious Press is working
with a sister company, Time Warner Electronic Publishing. TWEP and online game
publisher Simutronics have joined forces to create an online, text based, interactive
mystery game that will draw on resources of Mysterious Press editors and its stable
of authors. These types of synergies can be very beneficial because they help to
bring some media material, in this case these stories across different types of medias,
and in this way they are cross advertising for each other.
Time Warner is also taking part in joint ventures which bring it more opportunities
to advertise and sell its products. For example, in 1993 Time Warner and US West
worked together to improve U.S. cable systems to an interactive fiber optic data
highway that could lead to such direct services to the home as music on demand and
video on demand. This deal was based on U.S. West investing $2.5 billion in Time
Warner Inc. which gave them a big stake (25.5%)in

His 15 year experimental restructuring of Semco transformed a traditional,
paternalistic company environment into a very radical workspace, where there is no
human resource function and 60% of top management positions became redundant
(Lloyd, 1994). Semler s most distinctive change was employee empowerment and
participative leadership. Hiring is undertaken by the workers themselves, who
decide on their own salary, bonuses, working hours and goals. Semler believes that
employees should deliver a final result and empowers them accordingly towards
this goal. He unequivocally rejects the pyramidal structure that bears the notion of
company procedures, outlining in every detail how employees should behave in
every contingency. At Semco, labour unions train everybody how to read the
financial statements of the company and workers participate collectively on the
company s big decisions (e.g. moving premises or buying another firm). Employee
involvement at Semco is also reflected in 360 degree appraisal procedures held
every six months, as well as in rotating job titles and job enrichment procedures,
which offer workers a broader view of the company (Vanderburg, 2004). Semler s
outlook on employee empowerment was prompted by two fundamental crises. Firstly
growing unrest within the organisation, Semco had expanded so quickly it was
having growing pains, (Bureaucracy Phase/Adolescent Phase), and lacked its own
organisational culture, i.e. the
48. The Earliest Application Of Data Communication
The earliest application of data communication in video games came from
multiplayer gaming. Originally, and even in some instances today, the term
multiplayer in games meant that players were in the same room sharing a physical
console. Two of the earliest examples of this were in 1972 the game Pong and MIT
SpaceWar on the Atari, which featured two joysticks to play the games (White, 2009).
A few years later, as technology continued advancing, the term multiplayer developed
different meanings. By the late 70s many of the country s universities were linked
through the modern internet s predecessor ARPANET (The Advanced Research
Projects Agency Network) also known as pre internet. ARPANET connected

As Roy Trubshaw stated: (1980) MUD was originally little more than a series of
interconnected locations where you could move and chat (Indvik, 2012). By the
early 80s MUDs had approximately 1000 users, primarily in the U.K and U.S. This
early system set the foundation for multiplayer gaming. After the introduction of
various MUDs, the idea of gaming over a network began to really catch on by the
middle 1980s. In 1985 owners of the board game Dungeons and Dragons began
licensing the game to software developers. The company wanted to take advantage
of the adoption of personal computers in the home, such as Macintosh, and provide
a digital medium for their game. Thirteen games were developed in all and were
connected through a PPP system. Each game required extensive instruction
manuals to use, some as long as twenty eight pages (Indvik, 2012). As sort of a
payoff for the complexity, these games were more advanced than the previous
generation of MUDs. Most provided two dimensional interfaces and characters and
were the first of their kind. Meanwhile in 1987, Atari developed its own gaming
system named the Atari ST. These consoles could be connected to one another on a
network known as MIDI. The MIDI architecture was a simple iteration of the
Dungeons and Dragons system. Players could connect to one another and form a
MIDI ring that connected one another s computer. Up to sixteen players could

What separates a group from a community? What separates an individual from a

community and the place affect how one will grow up. If someone is living in a big

Composers such as William Golding and J.J Abrams are able to employ various
themes and ideas to convey important messages within their texts. These themes
are often represented through the clever clever and concise use of descriptive
language and symbolism. Golding s lord of the flies and Abrams Examples of this
are cited in the text The Lord of the Flies and film Lost where Golding and Abrams
are able to articulate their views on civilisation vs savagery and societies brittle
shell which when put under pressure results in a descent into chaos and savagery.
Golding is able to encapsulate paramount themes and ideas in the text through the
use of themes symbols such as civilisation vs savagery and symbolism. The
preeminent matter in Lord of the Flies is the constant clash between two opposing
and combative aspects of human nature, which Golding efficaciously shows
through representing the best and worst of society, civilisation vs savagery. An
example of this is when Piggy and Ralph spot a conch and decide to use it to
summon a meeting shortly after the plane crash. We can use this to call the others.
Have a meeting. They ll come when they hear us Piggy says this signifying early
on the underlying value that the conch has other than its practical use. This is an
example of symbolism used to relate society s values with the islands. Golding uses
symbolism to convey his message that society s state of governing and law is feeble

The Searchers (1956) directed by John Ford is a Western movie following the life
of Ethan Edwards as he searches for his niece, Debby, who was captured by a
Comanche tribe. In this film, there is a scene (1:13:42 1:15:50) which shows Ethan
and Marty going into a US Cavalry fort to see if the Cavalry officers have Debby or
not. When Ethan and Marty go into the fort, they see a white woman on the floor,
screaming and rocking around, and two girls sitting dumbly. Then Ethan and Marty
decide that Debby is not there and leave.
In this scene, diegetic sound, sound that can be heard by the actors, is a prominent
element. Dialogue is heard in this scene, and is exchanged by a few of the characters

In the time this film was made, the dying days of the classic Western, Native
Americans were being portrayed as the savage side less and less. (ref: http:/
/www.rogerebert.com/reviews/great movie the searchers 1956). The director, John
Ford, believed that hatred of Native Americans was wrong, but the message in this
scene of the film contradicts his beliefs. However this does not mean John Ford
was racist, it simply shows the ideas that were common in society in the time this
film was made. John Ford used the characters Ethan and the US Cavarly officers to
embody the ideas of society in the 1950 s. Later in the film, the prejudice against
Native Americans reduces in Ethan s character. At the time of this scene, he hates
Native Americans with no exceptions. However near the end of the movie he
becomes more tolerant of Native Americans, for example when he brought Debby
home safely instead of killing her. As killing Debby would ve put Ethan into bad
light, the decision of him not killing her brings an anti racism message, which was
something that John Ford believed in. This helps highlight change of character in
Ethan. It shows that people should look past race and skin colour when making
decisions about and loving people. In comparison to the racist message in
