Character Analysis Of Miss Emily Grierson
Upon reading A Rose for Emily, penned by William Faulkner, one discovers several colorful
characters, including one Miss Emily Grierson, who may be best described as a wilting violet in a time
capsule. As the daughter of a colonel who was once the respected town mayor, Miss Emily met a
much different fate than one might have expected of someone with such a high societal status. In
keeping with the idea that humans are flawed beings, a tragic hero is often described as an individual
with immense potential who meets a horrific end due to flaws within themselves, and the main
character in Faulkner s short story undeniably meets these criteria. In William Faulkner s A Rose for
Emily, Miss Emily Grierson suffers an unfortunate fate due to her lack of willingness to evolve as the
times changed, her intense need to keep up appearances, and her withdrawal from society which leads
readers to accept her as a tragic hero.
Throughout the course of the story, it becomes evident to readers that Miss Emily lived her life as
though time was on pause, and nothing was allowed to be altered within the confines of her reality; in
regard to this realization, one notes that this is where she first began her long fall down the well. In
retrospect, she held fast to the days when she fancied herself a symbol of the flourishing south and
became stationary in an antiquated period of life when the times began to change. She made it known
that she wanted no part of change, and she never chose to

The Theories Of Gestalt Psychology
Development of Gestalt Psychology Phrases such as seeing the forest from the trees and the whole is
greater than the sum of the parts have roots grounded in the same ideals of Gestalt psychology. These
phrases best describe the purpose of Gestalt psychology in how they emphasize focusing on the big
picture and not just the colors. The Gestalt concept of perception is how the mind understands the
world around it by seeing it in whole forms, not simple elements. The human brain and consciousness
contains an essence that loses value when broken down into elements of study. Origin of Gestalt
Musical notes when observed as whole produce complex and wonderful melodies. The notes alone do
not hold the same effect and take away value of the complete melody if only heard as individual tones.
When breaking such abilities down into elements, the value of the ability was being lost in the eyes of
Gestaltists. With psychology moving towards the molecular approach in studying consciousness and
behavior, the Gestaltists used a molar approach. (Hergenhan Henley, 2014). The origin of the word
Gestalt comes from Germany. According to Ginger (2007), the real meaning of the word is richer and
more complex, and is impossible to translate . The best comparison to English is configuration or form
. (Hergenhan Henley, 2014). The simple example of a Gestalt would be a child recognizing their
mother s face. The recognition alone apart from makeup, complexion, and hair color is

Stereotyping Of The Chinatowns Of China And The Great...
Nevertheless, back in China, it was a lawless decade dominated by rapacious warlords. Nationalist
leader Chiang Kai shek, led a campaign called Northern Expedition from 1926 to 1928 to control
China by defeating the warlords. But he faced relentless Japan s attack, and in the 1919 Versailles
Treaty, Western power return Shandong Province to Japan instead. Japan then seized Manchuria and
controlled China by assigning Puyi as puppet ruler.
Chinese immigrants were eager to help, but soon American mired in the deepest economic recession
on record The 1920s Great Depression. After frenzied stock market speculation, the nationwide
financial bubble bursted, making twenty million American unemployed. In 1933, President Roosevelt
enacted the Federal Emergency Relief Act, which saved the economic depression for both Americans
and Chinese. However, The Great Depression did not affect the Chinatowns of 1930s so badly, mainly
because of Chinese s self sufficiency, frugality, reliance on family connection and avoidance of
frivolous debt. Their valiant teamwork helped them rescue from bankruptcy. Otherwise, Tourism
appeared to be a reliable source of cash such as the Forbidden City nightclub in San Francisco
Chinatown, hiring hundreds of Chinese women.

Abnormal Psychology And Oppression
Looking at the course title, Abnormal Psychology, I expected to learn about mental illnesses, including
the dynamics of schizophrenia and the perpetual spiral of depression. On the first day of class, I
realized that what would be discussed would be completely different from what I had expected.
Instead of what I had previously thought about individuals being abnormal, I had to shift my way of
thinking to question whether it was the people who were abnormal, or whether the society itself was
the problem. Through insightful readings, discussions, and lectures I have developed my own opinions
on the impact of oppression; how to think about mental disorders; and the system of the DSM,
psychiatry, and insurance systems. There is no real way ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Culture is defined as the parts of individual identity one participates in by choice or force in the
society in which they live. Religion, wealth, and health are all cultures in the American society.
Oppression comes in forms such as racism, sexism, homophobia, classism, heterosexism, ableism,
ageism, religious prosecution, and so on. Marilyn Frye (2000) explains in her essay Oppression, that
the root of the word oppression is the element press, presses are used to mold or flatten things to
reduce them by squeezing them, something pressed is caught between forces and barriers which are so
related to each other that they restrain, restrict, or prevent the thing s mobility. (Frye, 2000, 11)
Oppression immobilizes, it stems from the misunderstanding of people of different cultures who see
others as deviant from the norm in their culture or the overall norm in society. For example, Joreen
(1968) writes in the Bitch Manifesto that the most prominent characteristic of all Bitches is that they
rudely violate conceptions of proper sex role behavior, the violation is different for each Bitch, but
they all violate them (Joreen, 1968, 1). People then generally feel uncomfortable around Bitches,
considering them aberrations, which leads the culture to create a dumping ground for all who they
deplore as bitchy and call them frustrated women. The same oppression that is subjected to bitches for
deviating from the norm is placed on all deviant groups within society, especially those who are
stigmatized with the label of having a mental health illness. And each mental health illness has its own
form of oppression, its own tag of stigma based on how severe (aka deviant) from the norm society
and different cultures consider it. For example, feeling godly is considered by the culture of religion to
be relatively normal or honorable, whereas by the rest of society

Bravery
Bravery You re walking down the street, coming home from school, and all of a sudden you hear a
shrill voice calling Help! Help! You run toward the voice and when you run about a block up the street
you smell smoke. You look up and see a house totally engulfed in flames. You see a woman on the
lawn of the burning building crying, Help! Help! My baby s inside! Inside the burning building? you
ask. The woman nods her head up and down. You tell her not to worry, that you ll save her baby. You
run inside. Heat surrounds you. Your eyes sting and you can hardly breathe with all of the smoke, but
you keep progressing because you know that you ve got to save that baby. You make your way up the

At the beginning of the play the murderer, who happens to be the narrator, tells how he went about
murdering a man with an evil vulture eye. He insists that he was really only destroying the eye, that he
only killed the man to rid himself of the dreaded gaping eyeball that had been haunting him. So, the
way that I see it is that the narrator is trying to convince himself that he was brave enough to finally
rid himself of the haunting eye that he may have been genuinely afraid of. What is the first thing that
comes to your mind when you hear the word brave? Do you think about a superhero, or maybe a
soldier that fights for our country? Bravery is the ability to face danger, fear or pain. Bravery is the
quality of a person who displays courage and fearlessness in the face of danger. Such qualities show
splendor and magnificence in a person. Fear and terror sometimes hinder the determination someone
can show. Overcoming this fear is what portrays bravery. The boldest of individuals is the one who
abides by his or her conscience. In Night the main character Ellie Weisel whom is also the author went
through a dreadful struggle in a concentration camp. Through all the hardships, he obeyed his
conscience and never abandoned his dad and he also managed to maintain his faith. In To Kill a
Mocking bird by Harper Lee a different type of bravery is shown, Scout and Jem have to face a town

Speach Stand by Me Analysis
The movie Stand By Me is a great portrayal of a group of four young friends who set out to find a
dead body. These boys have many trials and tribulations and manage to maintain their friendship
throughout the movie. Gordie, Chris, Teddy and Vern are an unstoppable cast; showing their trust,
friendship, and insecurities to one another. The main role of Gordie LaChance is played by Wil
Wheaton. He is having trouble in his life at this time because he just lost his brother and his parents
are having a very difficult time dealing with it. Chris Chambers was played by River Phoenix. Chris is
considered a loser because of his family and everybody thinks he will do nothing in life. Through it

When the old man calls his father looney Teddy flips out. He starts kicking and punching even though
he s on the other side of the fence. This remains a problem with the group because they have to spend
time comforting him before they get back on the road again. On more than one occasion Teddy got in
small fights with almost all of the different group members. Teddy hinders group development by
forcing the group to devote time and effort to control his behavior.
Chris remains one of the leaders, but even at times presents a problem to the group. He has a very
tough attitude and almost gets his eye burned out in the beginning trying to stand up against bigger,
tougher kids. At the end of the movie he almost gets attacked with a knife for mouthing off to the
same group of kids, but Gordie bailed him out. By standing up against difficult group members Gordie
really showed his leadership skills. Gordie seems to have a lot of personal issues with finding this
dead body because of how often he thinks about his older brother who had passed away. Gordie really
takes this trip/adventure personally mainly because of how close he feels to this dead body. Only a
few months before this trip, Gordy s older brother Denny had been killed in a car accident, and Gordy
has been ignored at home since, which we see in flashbacks. Gordy aspires to be a writer, but the only
support he had came from his brother. Now Gordie feels a very close relationship with

The Significance of the Rape Scene in Timothy Findley’s...
The significance of the rape scene in Timothy Findley s The Wars Ryan Moore
Robert Ross, the protagonist of Timothy Findley s novel The Wars undergoes a disturbing violation
when his fellow soldiers rape him; this is a significant turning point for Robert s character and a
section of the book Findley uses to address many themes. Throughout the book we witness Robert
maturing and experiencing many hardships that will help create the man he becomes. The most
significant of these trials is the scene at the insane asylum because it is where Robert looses the last
connection to his innocence and his faith in humanity s virtuousness. Findley also uses this scene to
address the topic of homophobia in that era, and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When he receives his belongings and sees the photograph of his sister, Robert realizes that he doesn t
her memory to exist in a place that has treated him so harshly and that her innocence does not belong
in this world any longer. Robert decides to burn the picture to free Rowena s memory from the
slightest association with the depravation mankind has sunk to in his eyes, and with it he is destroying
the last link to his innocence.
The rape scene is also very important because of the real life symbolism it represents. Findley uses the
rape scene to acknowledge that the war has raped Robert s generation of men who were affiliated with
it. As Robert is assaulted his thoughts lead to Why? Robert kept thinking. Why? (174). The author
hints at this theme in the following line: . . . four hundred thousand possibilities all of those lives that
would never be (169). Robert s thoughts of why reflect the thoughts of many North American men and
women who had lost love ones during the war. Findley believes that the war, and those who made it,
raped Robert s entire generation of men and left damaged scared victims and grieving relatives in their
wake (gradesaver). Findley cleverly emphasizes the subtle metaphor of four hundred thousand

England Throughout History
England. What is the first word you think of when you hear, England? You may think of their history
and its effect. Another thought that could be is London. London is the capital and heart of England
that has its own history. Throughout history England has contributed so much, good and bad. With that
contribution England is one of the well most known country that is known for poise, history, and
tradition.
English history began in 500,000 BC with a boxgrove man from West Sussex. He was the first human
known in England. In 55 BC Julius Ceasar invaded England for Rome. After Cesar took control
Roman control lasted for 400 years. From 449 550 Jutes, Angles, and Saxons arrived in England and
took control. In the beginning of the ninth century the Vikings came and invaded England. The
Vikings controlled North and East England. In 897 Alfred the great defeated the vikings living in
England. Another important date in England s history is 1067 when the Tower of London began being
structured. (England. China: CTSP, 2010. Print) In 1154 Henry II becomes the king. The next king,
John became king in 1215 and signed the magna carta. 1348 49 was a hard time for England because
the black death kills one third of the population. A long time after the black death was over in 1476
William Caxton set up England s first printing service. In 1485 Henry VII is crowned the King of
England. Also during 1485 the Act of Union unified the England, Wales, and Scotland. The three

Summary Of Sonnet 42 By Millay
In Sonnet 42, Edna St Vincent Millay speaks of various love affairs coming to an end and the forlorn
and remorseful feelings linked to them. She expresses her longing attitude towards her lost loves by
employing melancholic diction, contrasting seasonal imagery, and natural metaphors. The melancholic
diction creates the longing attitude toward the speakers past loves in the poem. Words such as
forgotten (line 2) and unremembered (7) all stress the speaker s attitude because they have negative
connations that convey the remorseful and longing feelings. These words also are in the past tense
which portray the speaker s gloomy feelings when she reflects on the past and her love interests back
then. The melancholic diction is also associated with the seasonal imagery and natural metaphors that
are described throughout the poem. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The author first depicts winter imagery when describing the lonely tree (9) and how the birds have all
vanished because it evokes the image of a bare tree as all the birds have left and migrated south for the
winter. Winter is a cold, depressing season because everything is gone, the leaves, the birds, the plants,
just like the speakers love interests all have gone too. Thus the winter images add further to the
longing attitude of the speaker. Then, the author contrasts the winter imagery with summer images.
Summer is the season of joviality and lightheartedness, but the speaker states that what summer sang
in me (13) is gone, which infers that the speaker s happiness and lively spirit is gone because all her
past loves have left. The contrast between the descriptions of the two seasons, which symbolize
different feelings, highlights the speakers longing attitude for her past loves that have

Animal Symbolism in Native Son by Richard Wright Essay
Animal Symbolism in Native Son by Richard Wright
Two rats and a cat are used as symbols in Richard Wright s Native Son. The rats, one found in an alley
and the other in Bigger s apartment, symbolize Bigger. Mrs. Dalton s white cat represents white
society, which often takes the form of a singular character. Parallels are drawn between these animals
and the characters they represent at key moments during the novel (Kinnamon 118). These parallels
help the reader identify with Bigger and understand why he acts the way he does. The animal imagery
in Native Son explains some of Bigger s behavior and generates sympathy for Bigger and fear of
whites.

Mrs. Dalton s discovery of Bigger is a serious threat to his life, which causes him to frantically search
for safety. He turned and a hysterical terror seized him, as though he were falling from a great
height...It was Mrs. Dalton. He wanted to knock her out of the way and bolt from the room (Wright
97). Like the rat, Bigger is trapped and in danger, with no possibility for escape. In his last, desperate
fight for survival, he suffocates Mary, similar to the rat s wild leap for his pant leg.
The second rat enters the novel to remind readers that the desperate situation of the first rat is the same
situation Bigger faces now. Bigger fears for his life as he is trapped in the city with no escape after
Mary s bones are discovered. His wild movement through the city streets is similar to the first rat
running in a circle, desperately searching for a place to hide. He reeled through the streets, his
bloodshot eyes looking for a place to hide. He paused at a corner and saw a big black rat leaping over
the snow. It shot past him into a doorway where it slid out of sight through a hole. He looked wistfully
at that gaping black hole through which the rat had darted to safety (Wright 288). The second rat runs
across the white snow the way Bigger is running through the white controlled city, both looking for
safety. This rat serves as a reminder of the desperate circumstances that Bigger faces.

Eminent Domain Essay example
Eminent Domain is the government s right under the Fifth Amendment to acquire privately owned
property for public use to build a road, a school or a courthouse. Under eminent domain, the
government buys your property, paying you what s determined to be fair market value. In recent years,
there has been much debate over the appropriateness of eminent domain, and further its legality in
specific instances. The government is allowed to seize personal property for private use if they can
prove that doing it will serve what s called the public good . There have been many cases brought up
against the government in attempt to regulate the government s power in seizing private property.

ft for homes in a specific neighborhood. In an area with older houses, many of these qualifications
may not be met, which would in turn classify certain houses as blighted. This does not imply that the
homeowners have failed to maintain there property properly, but infers that the area can be used for a
higher and better use.
Amongst topics of conversation regarding eminent domain, one will find regulatory usage of land,
seizing of land for public use, and the most controversial of late, the seizing of land from a private
owner and giving it to a more economically beneficial, often politically connected private owner. Kelo
v New London (US 2005), has prompted dozens of proposals to reform eminent domain practices
legislatively. Most of these proposals would restrict the use of eminent domain to transfer property
from one private individual to another. It is one thing to have a city claim property to further the
development of the city by building roads, schools, etc. It is another thing altogether for the
government to seize a property so as to gain money from higher taxation. For many years, however,
courts have read the public use restraint broadly, enabling governments to take property from one
owner, often small and powerless, and transfer it to another, often large and politically connected, all
in the name of economic development, urban renewal, or job creation.
With the media s focus on cases like Kelo v New London, the public is

Essay on Mount Etna in Italy
1.0 Topic Definition
Volcanic Eruption, which means the sudden occurrence of a violent discharge of steam and volcanic
material, is one of the catastrophes in human history. It can devastate enormous areas, as well as
people. The eruption of the Vesuvius in AD 79 buried the cities of Herculaneum, Pompeii and Stabiae
with ashes and mud. (Oracle think quest) The majority of ancient volcanoes, like Mt. Vesuvius in Italy
and Mt. Tambora in Indonesia are all dormant volcanoes now. However, Mt. Etna, which have been

It begins with low level activity and continuous summit activity and a series of flank eruption are
following. The last phase is commonly the most voluminous. (Behncke, B., Neri, M., 2003) The trend
of Mt. Etna eruption is becoming similar to that of the 17th century.
Although Mt. Etna is said to eruption since 1500 BC, according to Michael Abrams, Remo Bianchi
and David Pieri, only historical records for the last 350 years are accurate. Records before year 1650
are incomplete and controversial.
3.0 Science Organization
The eruption of Mt. Etna belongs to the volcanology, which is a study of volcanoes. It also relates to
geology in that the most convincing reason of the eruption of Mt. Etna is plate tectonic setting. Mt.
Etna is related to the subduction of the African plate under the Eurasian plate. (Jessica Ball) There are
also other theories explains the eruption, including rifting processes, a hot spot and intersection of
structural breaks in the crust. (Jessica Ball)
In order to predict the volcanic eruption, seismograph monitoring is often used. Seismograph
monitoring is the machine that creates seismograph which records the changing earth tremors because
of rising magma, which indicates volcanic eruption. (Oracle Think quest) As a result, the eruption of
Mt. Etna also associates with seismology. (See figure 2)

Pride In Desiree s Baby By Kate Chopin
Armand Aubigny s Pride in Desiree s Baby by Kate Chopin
Through history, we have always yearned independence and equality as human beings. Undoubtedly,
Kate Chopin is an extraordinary example She has landed a commendable place among American
writers worthy of recognition. Born in St. Louis, Missouri in 1850, Kate was raised by strong women
who taught her the value of an education. Her family gave her a revolutionary vision and a feminist
personality, but it was her talented and passionate skills in writing who gave her an individual voice.
During her personal life, Mrs. Chopin built a family of her own, but [she] became a widow at age
thirty two, with the responsibility of raising six children. She never remarried (Koloski). Ten years
after her husband s death, Kate wrote a short story named Desiree s Baby. A few years passed, and
Chopin s short story was finally published in Vogue among others. Its strong message about
controversial issues such as racism and discrimination of females earned her acclamatory fame and
acknowledgment. By the time of her death, Kate Chopin had already written about a hundred short
stories and two novels. At the age of fifty four, she passed away in her native St. Louis leaving her
legacy to be studied and awarded for the rest of the world (Koloski). Until this day, Desiree s Baby is
one of the most distinguishable works of her career.

Pros And Cons Of Chemotherapy
Cancer is a disease that has taken the world by storm. When chromosomes begin to mutate, they build
up and cause a mass to form in or on a person s body, which eventually turns into cancer. Because of
the severity and recurrence of this potentially fatal disease, scientists have been dedicating their time
in hopes of finding a cure. Of all the forms of treatment patients undergo, the most familiar of them
would be chemotherapy. Even though it is most commonly used, there has been debate on whether
chemotherapy is the best treatment option. When treating cancer, there are more options to improve
the chance of living and quality of life that does not include chemotherapy. Chemotherapy, as well as
other cancer treatments, aims to help the patient overcome this disease. Even though chemo is used to
treat almost any type of sickness, it is most commonly known for its effects on cancer cells inside the
human body. Typically, chemo is not used as a treatment by itself. Many ... Show more content on

Thomas Paine Essay
Thomas Paine
For many years Thomas Paine was the epitome of American histories greatest drawback. In American
history there is always that one detail that doesn t make it into popular curriculum. Whether it be the
point of view from the loosing side of a war, to the secret dalliances of a popular politician, to the truth
of a times social opinion the American student is taught only so much. The most proper, popular
material makes it in; along with any major facts too commonly known to ignore. Anything else is
liable to fall to the wayside without enough support from historians or academia. There is always
room for the improvement of materials taught; so said, it would seem there is much more to know

Paine is nothing if not the son of both perseverance and necessity. His financial woes are the stuff on
which young loan sharks are weaned. He grew up the soon of a poor corset maker, and knew only
poverty most of his life. His employment track is littered with miss starts in many fields, including
stints as a teacher, a seaman, a tobacco shop owner and at various times a excise man. None of these
were to be successful positions for Paine, giving him the start of a grudge towards England and its
economy. After surviving one wife and separating from another, Paine was near his perceived end. Yet
on the recommendation of a new acquaintance from America he decided to head west to the colonies,
in hope of escaping the misery he d endured in England. With nothing to his name but letters of
recommendation (from the American whom he d met in London), he arrived in Philadelphia, America
in 1774. This American happened to be none other then Benjamin Franklin, and the prominence of
Paines recommender gained him the position of editor of the newly founded Pennsylvanian Magazine.
Here, Paine established himself as a radical thinker, a person unafraid to enter into the independence
furor. Remembering the hardships he had faced in England, Paine became he ideal American patriot.
In 1776 Paine published the Common Sense pamphlet without signing his name to it. Demanding
independence from England and the establishment of a strong American union, the

Political Interventions Impacting On Profitability
Political interventions impacting on profitability
During the early 1900 s the introduction of many different types of deer were introduced to New
Zealand for sport. These included the Red Deer, Wapiti, Fallow, Sambar, Sika, Rusa, White tailed deer
and moose. However by the early 2000 s Red Deer were the most common breed to be found in the
wild. These deer were released into an environment where they had no predators unlike the
characteristics of their origins. This meant that the numbers of deer sky rocketed and began to have
serious impacts depleting the native scrub and pastoral farmland. In 1930 the department of internal
affairs (who had been put in charge of solving the increasing deer numbers) set up a team of
government cullers to control the wild deer populations. However deer populations continued to rise
and by the 1950 s a team of 125 men killed 50,000 deer a year without impacting the overall
populations. By the 1960s, wild deer populations were out of control and venison prices at the time
were around 20 cents a kg. This meant that many people decided that they could make a comfortable
living hunting deer for the meat. In 1969 the Noxious Animals Act passed which meant that deer were
no longer classified as wild animals. Deer Farming Regulations were introduced providing
opportunities for the licensing of deer farms. The first Deer farming license was given in 1970. In the
1970 s venison prices soared to more than $2 per kg which resulted in the venison

Analysis Of Ziggurat By Stephen O Connor
1st Paragraph: Symbolism in Ziggurat
In Stephen O Connor s Ziggurat, the author utilizes symbolism to portray a raw tale of life and death s
conflicting relationship. O Connor s usage of a mythological character, the Minotaur, and a human, the
new girl, creates a juxtaposing link that reveals the inevitability of death. Ziggurat follows the
Minotaur s life throughout the labyrinth where he meets the new girl. Through his harsh
characterization and foreseeable destruction of those around him, the Minotaur can be seen as a
personification of death. The Minotaur believes in the idea that we were created to be destroyed (O
Connor), a hint at the inescapability of the death that the Minotaur symbolizes. Subsequently, the new

This story, with its lack of rhyme structure and rhythm, is similar to a prose poem. The sharp and
repetitive sentence structure makes the list of instructions seem as if they are being given in one
endless dialogue. The seemingly infinite commands create a suffocating sense of obligation for the
daughter. By including questions in the mother s list of commands, the author makes it seem like the
mother is speaking in a stream of consciousness and is rattling off orders and advice to her daughter.
Soak salt fish overnight before you cook it; is it true that you sing benna in Sunday school?; always
eat your food in such a way that it won t turn someone else s stomach (Kincaid). Simultaneously, it
smothers the exchange between the daughter and mother, restricting the idea of a real, two way
conversation. Throughout the story, the daughter rarely speaks, only to protest against her mother s
claims, including the belief that the daughter will become a slut when she is older. Her mother states,
prevent yourself from looking like the slut I know you are so bent on becoming (Kincaid) twice within
the story, emphasizing the mother s accusatory words that simultaneously assume the daughter is
already on track to becoming a slut. Subsequently, the daughter argues how she doesn t sing benna on
Sundays at all (Kincaid) when harshly criticized by her mother. The daughter s haste and sharp
responses to her mother s brusque accusations suggest that the daughter has already

A school based group conferencing program reported that 70 percent of those in Group Confernceing

High School Graduation Essay
Graduation
Through out life people go through so many hardships. Whether it be good or bad there is always
something that comes out of the situation. One of the most exciting but yet scariest events would be
graduation. For a lot of people, graduating from high school is a goal. It takes a lot of time and effort
to achieve that goal. In the long run, it opens a lot of opportunities for people to succeed. Graduation
is the end of high school, and the beginning to life. I can almost remember that day like it was

Once I was finished, I gathered up my cap and gown and my car keys and headed out the door. All the
graduates had to meet in the high school library an hour before the ceremonies started, and I promised
one of my best friends Tony that we would go together. I knocked on his back door and let myself in
like I always do. All of his family members were running throughout the house trying to get ready. I
asked his mom where Tony was and she proceeded to tell me that he was in the bathroom getting
ready. I tapped on the door and walked in. He was standing in front of the mirror with his cap and
gown on. He look me straight in the eyes and said, Can you believe that we are about to graduate? I
replied, No, it really hasn t set in yet. Tony finished getting ready, and then we left for the high school.
The parking lot was filled with all the other seniors cars. Tony and I walked into the library ten
minutes late like usual, and the principal had already started giving instructions. I found my place in
line and then was all ears. I couldn t help but look around at all the others. Smiles were plastered on
their faces as if they had heard a hilarious joke. Once the principal concluded his speech, the whole
senior class paraded down the hallway to the commons in two uniform lines stopping just outside the
gymnasium doors. We could hear the band warming up and playing songs. All the people that were

first culture to become civilized. As the Sumerians settled in Mesopotamia, a class structure gradually

civilization of the Sumerians was their ability to create progress in agricultural skills and techniques.
The final characteristic representative in the first culture of Mesopotamia is their contribution to the

Kahlo began to paint in while she was recuperating from the devastating accident she faced when she
was merely eighteen years old that would change her life forever. The accident occurred when a
trolley crashed in to the small wooden bus she was riding in. The accident which nearly killed her, left
Kahlo partially invalid which including three broken places to her spinal column, a broken collarbone,
two broken ribs, three broken places to her pelvis, eleven fractures in her right leg, a crushed and
dislocated right foot, and a dislocated shoulder. A steal rod also impaled her in the uterus exiting
through her vagina leaving her unable to bear children. Due to this event Kahlo stated, I lost my
virginity (Herrera, 49). Herrera explains that many of Kahlo s supporters view her tragic accident as if
it were Kahlo s destiny. Kahlo was destined to endure a long life of pain and anguish in order to create
the unusual, morbidly unique works of art. Kahlo was compelled to wear a full cast that cover a third
of her body; wrapping from her chest down to her feet. Her painting started on her body cast which
began her journey through the world of art. She abandoned her studies of medicine because of her
immobilization and gave up her medical career to fulfill her career as a painter instead. Kahlo s first
greatest paintings begin during this time, My Grandparents, My Parents and I (1936).

Choosing The Correct Replacement For An Aged Roof
Choosing the correct replacement for an aged roof or identifying the best choice for a new building is
no easy task. The perfect roofing solution for one building may be the worst option for another just
down the street. That s because no two buildings are precisely alike, even if they closely resemble
each other. So how do you choose a new roof, given all the choices in the marketplace? You can start
by asking a series of questions, before you choose the roof, the roofing contractor or the manufacturer.
1. What is this building s mission statement?
Before calls are made to roofing contractors or manufacturers, the first item to address is the company
s mission statement as it relates to the building.
Whether you are building new facilities or managing existing properties, you want to be confident that
the roofing systems you select deliver the performance you expect. More often than not, the building
itself dictates the appropriate roofing system specification.
You need to know as much about the building and its future as possible. Does the company plan to
keep this building as part of its real estate assets for the next 10 to 20 years? Are there any plans to
expand it in the near future, or to change its use? What are its current and future occupancy, insulation
requirements, aesthetic priorities and even the maintenance schedules for rooftop equipment?
These and other mission statement issues will help shape answers to types of roofing to consider and

and or services from an outside supplier ( mainly other countries), rather than doing the same work

Everyone in this America knew that not only had this particular airline close, but so had three others in
a matter of a couple of weeks. But when I called my credit card company the man on the other end of

I then realized that this person wasn t in America and when I asked him where he was located he
quickly told me that I needed to write a letter and send it to the address on the back of the card and
disconnected the call. I was upset about my travel plans being canceled but I was even more upset that
I had to deal with all of that mess. After all of that I cancelled the credit card and when they asked why
I explained to them that I didn t agree with their employment decisions. I realize that me cancelling
my credit card isn t going to change the way that particular business is done, but I felt better about it.
Outsourcing causes consumer frustration and disappointment. It is shameful for American companies
to turn their backs on the American worker just to save a little money.
How can outsourcing be stopped?
Many people insist that there are no clear cut ways to stop the issue of outsourcing, while some people
offer up ideas on how company s could still keep the majority of their work in America while still
outsourcing. Outsourcing has become the wise thing to do in business now days and with these

Economic Impact Of The Earthquake
Earthquakes and Society
On January 12, 2010 a 7.0 earthquake struck the Republic of Haiti. This earthquake caused a large
amount of destruction and devastation. In order to understand this earthquake more in depth, it will be
discussed on how it affected the earth, the damages and death tolls, the economic impact, and the
permanent consequences.
Affecting the Earth
The earthquake happened about 15 miles southwest from the Haitian capital of Port au Prince at
4:35pm. The geology of Haiti consists of igneous rocks formed within a volcanic island arc. Haiti is
situated on the North American Plate and the Caribbean Plate is below. The Enriquillo Plaintain
Garden Fault which accounts for over half of the movement between the Caribbean and North
American plates which equals to about 7 millimeters per year. (Cressey, 2010). The earthquake
occurred on the Enriquillo Plaintain Garden fault system. The plates move in an east west direction
and which had caused the energy release. ( What Caused the Devastating Haiti Earthquake?, 2010)
Since the American North American and the Caribbean plates slide past each other, the movement
creates a strike strip fault. Because of famous strike strip faults like San Andreas, it seems reasonable
that the earthquake did take place. In fact, for some scientists there was concern about this earthquake
happening. A professor emeritus in geoscience at Oregon State University stated only 6 days before
the earthquake, If they have an earthquake on this

Definition of osmosis: The diffusion of water across a selectively permeable membrane from high to
low concentrations
Hypothesis: If I place an egg in vinegar, then the outer layer of the egg is going to become slimy and
look like rubber. It will also become larger and bubbles will form on and around the egg.
Hypothesis: If I place an egg in corn syrup, then the egg will become small and the outer layer will not
look like rubber any longer.
Day one:
Date started: 8/6
Volume: 2 oz. pH of acetic acid: 2.4
Day two
The egg shell completely disappears due to the vinegar reacting with the egg; bubbles form on the
surface of the vinegar and on the egg because carbon dioxide was produced from ... Show more

This is also known as a hypertonic solution which explains why the egg will decrease in size. Corn
syrup is a hypertonic liquid because it is very concentrated with not much water compared to the egg
unlike water which is hypotonic because it contains more water than the egg. In this solution, the
solute remains the egg, and the solvent is changed to corn syrup. Osmosis still plays an action because
water is still passing through the membrane from high to low concentrations.
Hypothesis: If the egg is placed into water, then it will increase in size since water is a hypotonic
liquid because it contains more water than the egg.
Day Five
Egg volume: 4oz.
Remaining water: 6oz.
Conclusion:
Osmosis took place in the egg under a variety of conditions because the membrane of the egg has tiny
openings where water can pass through from high to low concentrations. On day one, it was a
hypotonic solution because the higher concentration of water in the vinegar moved to the smaller
concentration in the egg. This means the egg was filled with water, which resulted in the eggs increase
in size. On day three, the hypotonic solution occurred because the corn syrup had a lower
concentration of water than the egg. That means the egg released water into the corn syrup, which
resulted in the eggs decrease in size. On day four, the egg was placed in water which resulted in an
isotonic solution where the concentrations become even. This

  • 3. Character Analysis Of Miss Emily Grierson Upon reading A Rose for Emily, penned by William Faulkner, one discovers several colorful characters, including one Miss Emily Grierson, who may be best described as a wilting violet in a time capsule. As the daughter of a colonel who was once the respected town mayor, Miss Emily met a much different fate than one might have expected of someone with such a high societal status. In keeping with the idea that humans are flawed beings, a tragic hero is often described as an individual with immense potential who meets a horrific end due to flaws within themselves, and the main character in Faulkner s short story undeniably meets these criteria. In William Faulkner s A Rose for Emily, Miss Emily Grierson suffers an unfortunate fate due to her lack of willingness to evolve as the times changed, her intense need to keep up appearances, and her withdrawal from society which leads readers to accept her as a tragic hero. Throughout the course of the story, it becomes evident to readers that Miss Emily lived her life as though time was on pause, and nothing was allowed to be altered within the confines of her reality; in regard to this realization, one notes that this is where she first began her long fall down the well. In retrospect, she held fast to the days when she fancied herself a symbol of the flourishing south and became stationary in an antiquated period of life when the times began to change. She made it known that she wanted no part of change, and she never chose to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. The Theories Of Gestalt Psychology Development of Gestalt Psychology Phrases such as seeing the forest from the trees and the whole is greater than the sum of the parts have roots grounded in the same ideals of Gestalt psychology. These phrases best describe the purpose of Gestalt psychology in how they emphasize focusing on the big picture and not just the colors. The Gestalt concept of perception is how the mind understands the world around it by seeing it in whole forms, not simple elements. The human brain and consciousness contains an essence that loses value when broken down into elements of study. Origin of Gestalt Musical notes when observed as whole produce complex and wonderful melodies. The notes alone do not hold the same effect and take away value of the complete melody if only heard as individual tones. When breaking such abilities down into elements, the value of the ability was being lost in the eyes of Gestaltists. With psychology moving towards the molecular approach in studying consciousness and behavior, the Gestaltists used a molar approach. (Hergenhan Henley, 2014). The origin of the word Gestalt comes from Germany. According to Ginger (2007), the real meaning of the word is richer and more complex, and is impossible to translate . The best comparison to English is configuration or form . (Hergenhan Henley, 2014). The simple example of a Gestalt would be a child recognizing their mother s face. The recognition alone apart from makeup, complexion, and hair color is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Stereotyping Of The Chinatowns Of China And The Great... Nevertheless, back in China, it was a lawless decade dominated by rapacious warlords. Nationalist leader Chiang Kai shek, led a campaign called Northern Expedition from 1926 to 1928 to control China by defeating the warlords. But he faced relentless Japan s attack, and in the 1919 Versailles Treaty, Western power return Shandong Province to Japan instead. Japan then seized Manchuria and controlled China by assigning Puyi as puppet ruler. Chinese immigrants were eager to help, but soon American mired in the deepest economic recession on record The 1920s Great Depression. After frenzied stock market speculation, the nationwide financial bubble bursted, making twenty million American unemployed. In 1933, President Roosevelt enacted the Federal Emergency Relief Act, which saved the economic depression for both Americans and Chinese. However, The Great Depression did not affect the Chinatowns of 1930s so badly, mainly because of Chinese s self sufficiency, frugality, reliance on family connection and avoidance of frivolous debt. Their valiant teamwork helped them rescue from bankruptcy. Otherwise, Tourism appeared to be a reliable source of cash such as the Forbidden City nightclub in San Francisco Chinatown, hiring hundreds of Chinese women. Stereotyping of Chinese in film depiction This nightclub is a glimpse of Chinese American s live that Americans perceived. • 6. Abnormal Psychology And Oppression Looking at the course title, Abnormal Psychology, I expected to learn about mental illnesses, including the dynamics of schizophrenia and the perpetual spiral of depression. On the first day of class, I realized that what would be discussed would be completely different from what I had expected. Instead of what I had previously thought about individuals being abnormal, I had to shift my way of thinking to question whether it was the people who were abnormal, or whether the society itself was the problem. Through insightful readings, discussions, and lectures I have developed my own opinions on the impact of oppression; how to think about mental disorders; and the system of the DSM, psychiatry, and insurance systems. There is no real way ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Culture is defined as the parts of individual identity one participates in by choice or force in the society in which they live. Religion, wealth, and health are all cultures in the American society. Oppression comes in forms such as racism, sexism, homophobia, classism, heterosexism, ableism, ageism, religious prosecution, and so on. Marilyn Frye (2000) explains in her essay Oppression, that the root of the word oppression is the element press, presses are used to mold or flatten things to reduce them by squeezing them, something pressed is caught between forces and barriers which are so related to each other that they restrain, restrict, or prevent the thing s mobility. (Frye, 2000, 11) Oppression immobilizes, it stems from the misunderstanding of people of different cultures who see others as deviant from the norm in their culture or the overall norm in society. For example, Joreen (1968) writes in the Bitch Manifesto that the most prominent characteristic of all Bitches is that they rudely violate conceptions of proper sex role behavior, the violation is different for each Bitch, but they all violate them (Joreen, 1968, 1). People then generally feel uncomfortable around Bitches, considering them aberrations, which leads the culture to create a dumping ground for all who they deplore as bitchy and call them frustrated women. The same oppression that is subjected to bitches for deviating from the norm is placed on all deviant groups within society, especially those who are stigmatized with the label of having a mental health illness. And each mental health illness has its own form of oppression, its own tag of stigma based on how severe (aka deviant) from the norm society and different cultures consider it. For example, feeling godly is considered by the culture of religion to be relatively normal or honorable, whereas by the rest of society ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

You run toward the voice and when you run about a block up the street you smell smoke. You look up and see a house totally engulfed in flames. You see a woman on the lawn of the burning building crying, Help! Help! My baby s inside! Inside the burning building? you ask. The woman nods her head up and down. You tell her not to worry, that you ll save her baby. You run inside. Heat surrounds you. Your eyes sting and you can hardly breathe with all of the smoke, but you keep progressing because you know that you ve got to save that baby. At the beginning of the play the murderer, who happens to be the narrator, tells how he went about murdering a man with an evil vulture eye. He insists that he was really only destroying the eye, that he only killed the man to rid himself of the dreaded gaping eyeball that had been haunting him. So, the way that I see it is that the narrator is trying to convince himself that he was brave enough to finally rid himself of the haunting eye that he may have been genuinely afraid of. What is the first thing that comes to your mind when you hear the word brave? Do you think about a superhero, or maybe a soldier that fights for our country? Bravery is the ability to face danger, fear or pain. Bravery is the quality of a person who displays courage and fearlessness in the face of danger. Such qualities show splendor and magnificence in a person. Fear and terror sometimes hinder the determination someone can show. Overcoming this fear is what portrays bravery. The boldest of individuals is the one who abides by his or her conscience. In Night the main character Ellie Weisel whom is also the author went through a dreadful struggle in a concentration camp. Through all the hardships, he obeyed his conscience and never abandoned his dad and he also managed to maintain his faith. In To Kill a Mocking bird by Harper Lee a different type of bravery is shown, Scout and Jem have to face a town that thinks their ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

These boys have many trials and tribulations and manage to maintain their friendship throughout the movie. Gordie, Chris, Teddy and Vern are an unstoppable cast; showing their trust, friendship, and insecurities to one another. The main role of Gordie LaChance is played by Wil Wheaton. He is having trouble in his life at this time because he just lost his brother and his parents are having a very difficult time dealing with it. Chris Chambers was played by River Phoenix. On more than one occasion Teddy got in small fights with almost all of the different group members. Teddy hinders group development by forcing the group to devote time and effort to control his behavior. Chris remains one of the leaders, but even at times presents a problem to the group. He has a very tough attitude and almost gets his eye burned out in the beginning trying to stand up against bigger, tougher kids. At the end of the movie he almost gets attacked with a knife for mouthing off to the same group of kids, but Gordie bailed him out. By standing up against difficult group members Gordie really showed his leadership skills. Gordie seems to have a lot of personal issues with finding this dead body because of how often he thinks about his older brother who had passed away. Gordie really takes this trip/adventure personally mainly because of how close he feels to this dead body. Only a few months before this trip, Gordy s older brother Denny had been killed in a car accident, and Gordy has been ignored at home since, which we see in flashbacks. • 9. The Significance of the Rape Scene in Timothy Findley’s... The significance of the rape scene in Timothy Findley s The Wars Ryan Moore Robert Ross, the protagonist of Timothy Findley s novel The Wars undergoes a disturbing violation when his fellow soldiers rape him; this is a significant turning point for Robert s character and a section of the book Findley uses to address many themes. Throughout the book we witness Robert maturing and experiencing many hardships that will help create the man he becomes. The most significant of these trials is the scene at the insane asylum because it is where Robert looses the last connection to his innocence and his faith in humanity s virtuousness. Findley also uses this scene to address the topic of homophobia in that era, and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... When he receives his belongings and sees the photograph of his sister, Robert realizes that he doesn t her memory to exist in a place that has treated him so harshly and that her innocence does not belong in this world any longer. Robert decides to burn the picture to free Rowena s memory from the slightest association with the depravation mankind has sunk to in his eyes, and with it he is destroying the last link to his innocence. The rape scene is also very important because of the real life symbolism it represents. Findley uses the rape scene to acknowledge that the war has raped Robert s generation of men who were affiliated with it. As Robert is assaulted his thoughts lead to Why? Robert kept thinking. Why? (174). The author hints at this theme in the following line: . . . four hundred thousand possibilities all of those lives that would never be (169). Robert s thoughts of why reflect the thoughts of many North American men and women who had lost love ones during the war. Findley believes that the war, and those who made it, raped Robert s entire generation of men and left damaged scared victims and grieving relatives in their wake (gradesaver). London is the capital and heart of England that has its own history. Throughout history England has contributed so much, good and bad. With that contribution England is one of the well most known country that is known for poise, history, and tradition. English history began in 500,000 BC with a boxgrove man from West Sussex. He was the first human known in England. In 55 BC Julius Ceasar invaded England for Rome. After Cesar took control Roman control lasted for 400 years. From 449 550 Jutes, Angles, and Saxons arrived in England and took control. In the beginning of the ninth century the Vikings came and invaded England. The Vikings controlled North and East England. In 897 Alfred the great defeated the vikings living in England. Another important date in England s history is 1067 when the Tower of London began being structured. (England. China: CTSP, 2010. The next king, John became king in 1215 and signed the magna carta. 1348 49 was a hard time for England because the black death kills one third of the population. • 11. Summary Of Sonnet 42 By Millay In Sonnet 42, Edna St Vincent Millay speaks of various love affairs coming to an end and the forlorn and remorseful feelings linked to them. She expresses her longing attitude towards her lost loves by employing melancholic diction, contrasting seasonal imagery, and natural metaphors. The melancholic diction creates the longing attitude toward the speakers past loves in the poem. Words such as forgotten (line 2) and unremembered (7) all stress the speaker s attitude because they have negative connations that convey the remorseful and longing feelings. These words also are in the past tense which portray the speaker s gloomy feelings when she reflects on the past and her love interests back then. The melancholic diction is also associated with the seasonal imagery and natural metaphors that are described throughout the poem. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The author first depicts winter imagery when describing the lonely tree (9) and how the birds have all vanished because it evokes the image of a bare tree as all the birds have left and migrated south for the winter. Winter is a cold, depressing season because everything is gone, the leaves, the birds, the plants, just like the speakers love interests all have gone too. Thus the winter images add further to the longing attitude of the speaker. Then, the author contrasts the winter imagery with summer images. Summer is the season of joviality and lightheartedness, but the speaker states that what summer sang in me (13) is gone, which infers that the speaker s happiness and lively spirit is gone because all her past loves have left. The contrast between the descriptions of the two seasons, which symbolize different feelings, highlights the speakers longing attitude for her past loves that have ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 13. Animal Symbolism in Native Son by Richard Wright Essay Animal Symbolism in Native Son by Richard Wright Two rats and a cat are used as symbols in Richard Wright s Native Son. The rats, one found in an alley and the other in Bigger s apartment, symbolize Bigger. Mrs. Dalton s white cat represents white society, which often takes the form of a singular character. Parallels are drawn between these animals and the characters they represent at key moments during the novel (Kinnamon 118). These parallels help the reader identify with Bigger and understand why he acts the way he does. The animal imagery in Native Son explains some of Bigger s behavior and generates sympathy for Bigger and fear of whites. Bigger s first encounter with a rat foreshadows what will happen to him ... Like the rat, Bigger is trapped and in danger, with no possibility for escape. In his last, desperate fight for survival, he suffocates Mary, similar to the rat s wild leap for his pant leg. The second rat enters the novel to remind readers that the desperate situation of the first rat is the same situation Bigger faces now. Bigger fears for his life as he is trapped in the city with no escape after Mary s bones are discovered. His wild movement through the city streets is similar to the first rat running in a circle, desperately searching for a place to hide. He reeled through the streets, his bloodshot eyes looking for a place to hide. He paused at a corner and saw a big black rat leaping over the snow. It shot past him into a doorway where it slid out of sight through a hole. He looked wistfully at that gaping black hole through which the rat had darted to safety (Wright 288). The second rat runs across the white snow the way Bigger is running through the white controlled city, both looking for safety. This rat serves as a reminder of the desperate circumstances that Bigger faces. The cat, a rat s natural ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Amongst topics of conversation regarding eminent domain, one will find regulatory usage of land, seizing of land for public use, and the most controversial of late, the seizing of land from a private owner and giving it to a more economically beneficial, often politically connected private owner. Kelo v New London (US 2005), has prompted dozens of proposals to reform eminent domain practices legislatively. Most of these proposals would restrict the use of eminent domain to transfer property from one private individual to another. It is one thing to have a city claim property to further the development of the city by building roads, schools, etc. It is another thing altogether for the government to seize a property so as to gain money from higher taxation. For many years, however, courts have read the public use restraint broadly, enabling governments to take property from one owner, often small and powerless, and transfer it to another, often large and politically connected, all in the name of economic development, urban renewal, or job creation. Political Interventions Impacting On Profitability Political interventions impacting on profitability During the early 1900 s the introduction of many different types of deer were introduced to New Zealand for sport. These included the Red Deer, Wapiti, Fallow, Sambar, Sika, Rusa, White tailed deer and moose. However by the early 2000 s Red Deer were the most common breed to be found in the wild. These deer were released into an environment where they had no predators unlike the characteristics of their origins. This meant that the numbers of deer sky rocketed and began to have serious impacts depleting the native scrub and pastoral farmland. In 1930 the department of internal affairs (who had been put in charge of solving the increasing deer numbers) set up a team of government cullers to control the wild deer populations. However deer populations continued to rise and by the 1950 s a team of 125 men killed 50,000 deer a year without impacting the overall populations. By the 1960s, wild deer populations were out of control and venison prices at the time were around 20 cents a kg. This meant that many people decided that they could make a comfortable living hunting deer for the meat. In 1969 the Noxious Animals Act passed which meant that deer were no longer classified as wild animals. Ziggurat follows the Minotaur s life throughout the labyrinth where he meets the new girl. Through his harsh characterization and foreseeable destruction of those around him, the Minotaur can be seen as a personification of death. In order to understand this earthquake more in depth, it will be discussed on how it affected the earth, the damages and death tolls, the economic impact, and the permanent consequences. Affecting the Earth The earthquake happened about 15 miles southwest from the Haitian capital of Port au Prince at 4:35pm. The geology of Haiti consists of igneous rocks formed within a volcanic island arc. Haiti is situated on the North American Plate and the Caribbean Plate is below. The Enriquillo Plaintain Garden Fault which accounts for over half of the movement between the Caribbean and North American plates which equals to about 7 millimeters per year. (Cressey, 2010). The earthquake occurred on the Enriquillo Plaintain Garden fault system. The plates move in an east west direction and which had caused the energy release. ( What Caused the Devastating Haiti Earthquake?, 2010) Since the American North American and the Caribbean plates slide past each other, the movement creates a strike strip fault. Because of famous strike strip faults like San Andreas, it seems reasonable that the earthquake did take place. In fact, for some scientists there was concern about this earthquake happening. A professor emeritus in geoscience at Oregon State University stated only 6 days before the earthquake, If they have an earthquake on this ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 38. Ap Biology Egg Osmosis Lab Essay AP Biology August 23, 2012 Egg Osmosis Lab Definition of osmosis: The diffusion of water across a selectively permeable membrane from high to low concentrations Hypothesis: If I place an egg in vinegar, then the outer layer of the egg is going to become slimy and look like rubber. It will also become larger and bubbles will form on and around the egg. Hypothesis: If I place an egg in corn syrup, then the egg will become small and the outer layer will not look like rubber any longer. Day one: Date started: 8/6 Volume: 2 oz. pH of acetic acid: 2.4 Day two The egg shell completely disappears due to the vinegar reacting with the egg; bubbles form on the surface of the vinegar and on the egg because carbon dioxide was produced from ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This is also known as a hypertonic solution which explains why the egg will decrease in size. Corn syrup is a hypertonic liquid because it is very concentrated with not much water compared to the egg unlike water which is hypotonic because it contains more water than the egg. In this solution, the solute remains the egg, and the solvent is changed to corn syrup. Osmosis still plays an action because water is still passing through the membrane from high to low concentrations. Hypothesis: If the egg is placed into water, then it will increase in size since water is a hypotonic liquid because it contains more water than the egg. Day Five Egg volume: 4oz. Remaining water: 6oz. Conclusion: Osmosis took place in the egg under a variety of conditions because the membrane of the egg has tiny openings where water can pass through from high to low concentrations. On day one, it was a hypotonic solution because the higher concentration of water in the vinegar moved to the smaller concentration in the egg. This means the egg was filled with water, which resulted in the eggs increase in size. On day three, the hypotonic solution occurred because the corn syrup had a lower concentration of water than the egg. That means the egg released water into the corn syrup, which resulted in the eggs decrease in size. On day four, the egg was placed in water which resulted in an isotonic solution where the concentrations become even. This ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 39. Nebular Hypothesis Vs. Six Day Creation I. Introduction The topic of my comparative essay will be to compare and contrast the different viewpoint of the nebular hypothesis (old earth secular view) vs. six day creation (young earth view) on the topic original creation of the earth. II. Old Earth Secular view The old earth secular view that I chose for my essay is the nebular hypothesis. The nebular hypothesis proposes that the sun, earth, and the rest of the solar system came from a cloud of dust and gas. This is the most accepted explanation of how the planets and stars came about. The nebular hypothesis was first developed in the 18th century by Emanuel Swedeburg, Immanuel Kallt, and Pierre semsne laplace. They had different theories which were constantly challenged by numerous ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
