Essay on Evolution of the Geeks
Evolution of the Geeks
In the past 20th century, the word geek has evolved into many different meanings. The term
branched off to create a person with low social skills, often with high intelligence, a person highly
interested in computer technology, and a person with a devotion to something that places him or
her outside of the mainstream. Geek usually has negative connotations within popular culture,
where being a geek tends to be an insult. The term can also be a badge of honor among
subcultures, such as the know it all of Star Trek.
Media dictates popular culture. The television sitcoms I ve watched growing up all displayed who
is the stereotype for a geek. Steve Urkel from Family Matters, Screech from Saved By The Bell,

He was often bullied, made fun of, and taken advantaged from the more physically fit male
students. He also provided the comic relief to the show by being the ever so annoying neighbor.
The character was also showed a love interest to Laura Winslow, a popular and smart classmate
and neighbor played by Kellie Shanygne Williams. In order to pursue her heart, Urkel invented a
machine to transform his physical geeky image to a hunky and charming man, which became his
alter ego Stephan.
The need to become accepted into what is considered cool implies that being a geek is
undesirable to the opposite sex. There is shame placed on the geek about his outer appearance.
Urkel created this alter ego to match his crush s status as the popular and beautiful student. People
would consider them a good match since their outer appearances depict cool. If a geek were to go
out with the hottest cheerleader, people would perceive that as abnormal. With the geek s
appearance changed, his confidence is higher and can allow him to walk with his head held up high.
Sex plays a major role when it comes to the gender of geeks. Males are usually favored to portray
geeks. A stereotypical image of a geek would be a pencil neck geek with pocket protectors and
suspenders. It embodies everything that is opposite of the Marlboro man: the rugged All American
man. Levels of masculinity are weighed to determine how much of a man one is. During football

Software in the Land of Smiles (a study of software piracy in Thailand)
1.Overview Walk down the street in Thailand and amongst the numerous trinket vendors, you will
find one that has catalog of software titles. The same catalogs can also be found at the major
shopping malls at numerous retailers. Flip through the catalogs, choose your software titles, and pay
around US$3. A runner will go retrieve your titles and, in about 5 10 minutes, you will have your
new software. This is only a glimpse of the multi million dollar world of software piracy and how
accessible it has become in the land of smiles, Thailand.
Software piracy is the use of software without a license from the copyright holder. There are
several forms of piracy ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, software piracy in Thailand is on a downward trend according to data from the Business
Software Alliance (BSA).
Eastern Europe is the region with the highest rate of software piracy, followed by Latin America,
and Asia/Pacific following very close behind according to BSA Global piracy study. 8 However,
Asia ranks as the number one region for dollar losses. China is the leader in dollar loss and
Thailand comes in at number ten for the Asia/Pacific region. In recent years Thailand has
maintained a 77% piracy rate and has remained on the IIPA watch list with recommendations to
escalate the country to the Priority Watch List. 4
2. Copyright laws in Thailand
Thailand revised its copyright law in 1995 to cover new types of artistic work, including computer
programs. Portions of the bill, known as the Copyright Act B.E. 2537, contain laws that are
expressly directed towards computer software.
The portions of importance to computer software are located in the following sections:
В·Section 6: Computer programs are literary works and are copyrightable.
В·Section 15: Rights of copyright owners
В·Section 35: Exemption from copyright infringement for computer programs
В·Section 70, 73, 74: Penalties for copyright infringement

The Romanticism in Wordsworth
Romantic poetry has very distinct details which set it apart from previous poetry. William
Wordsworth s poem, I Wandered Lonely As A
Cloud, is full of the Romantic characteristics which were so different during that time.
The poem begins with the speaker floating along, as though he or she were a cloud, when he or
she spots a crowd/ ..., of golden daffodils
(Wordsworth, 3,4).
The speaker goes on to describe the daffodils and the lake that is beside them. The images of the
daffodils return to mind during a difficult time , and cheers him up. It is important to note that the
speaker is speaking in first person. As this is a commonly used technique in romantic poetry, it is
easy to assume ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the first line of the poem, the speaker is metaphorically referred to as a cloud. Then, the
speaker s feelings are transmitted onto the daffodils, actually giving the daffodils his feelings. By
doing this, the reader can associate his or her own feelings in a similar manner. It allows the
reader to envision exactly how the speaker is feeling. This type of reverence for nature is a strong
characteristic of Romantic poetry.
Another important Romantic element used in this poem is the emotional one in human beings.
This poem is full of emotion on the part of the speaker. He even views the daffodils as having
such emotion. There is a progressive change, even an emotional maturity, taking place in him
based on what is happening in the poem. The speaker speaks first of his loneliness which later
turns to joy. Then, while in a depressed state, is able to return to that bliss by the simple
remembrance of what he saw.
Romanticism also focuses on the desire to understand what influences the mind. In the final stanza,
the speaker s loneliness is, once again, pushed away by the remembrance of the dancing daffodils.
The speaker has discovered that by him associating with nature, he can change the tone of the
inward eye (21). Memory, as is important in this poem, serves a great purpose. It allows one to
simply forget what is happening in one s life for just a moment, and reflect on something that
brought peace and meaning at one

Gardner Versus Traditional Teaching Methods Rhetorical...
Gardner vs Traditional Teaching Methods Mr. Gardner expresses the theory that students should
first learn how to understand a few important subjects and be able to decipher unique situations
rather than just memorize facts for standardized tests. He builds his argument eloquently using
mainly logos and ethos as his persuasive methods. He uses logos by making the reader think
logically and digest not only his opinion, but the opinion of other experts. As for ethos, Mr.
Gardner impresses upon the reader that he has a wealth of knowledge and an extensive background
in the subject of education.
Professor Gardner presents logos by quoting psychologists and educators, usage of historical
analysis, and real world examples. This forces the reader to think about their own experiences and
how they were taught and what teaching style would be best for their own children or themselves.
He believes that students should learn to appreciate multiple perspectives about a subject and rid
themselves of their simplistic misconceptions (Gardner 634). However, wiping the mental slate
clean he says, is not a simple task and he furthers his point using logos in paraphrasing Lauren
Resnick , disconfirming experiences do not always suffice to dissolve faulty conceptions and ...

He consistently makes references to himself working at Harvard, consequently establishing ethos
and allowing the reader to infer that he has a strong background in various teaching methods. He
also discusses his own publication; The Unschooled Mind saying that he had previously done a
vast body of research on students at Ivy League schools (Gardner 626). His ethos is reinforced by
this example because of the caliber of this research and the fact that he had a book published on

King George IIi Of Great Britain
It was the late 1700 s, the New England Colonies were being ruled by the cynical, power hungry
tyrant known as King George III of Great Britain. Although King George did not initialize the
colonization of America, he had a drastic effect on its history and what makes modern America
what it is today. ¬¬ In order for the Boston Massacreto even occur, there had to be some sort of
negative stimulus surrounding the Colonists that could and would trigger such an event. Some of
this negative stimulus stemmed from King George and his unnecessary acts imposed upon the
colonists. These acts included: The Stamp Act of 1764 and Sugar Act of 1764, which set hefty tax
on stamps as well as sugar and molasses. The Sugar Act of 1764 had the most impact on the
colonies. It impacted the manufacture of rum, which, at the time, was an important export from the
Colonies. There was an act passed known as the Townshend Actsof 1767; this act in particular
made the Colonists furious with Great Britain because it added a tax onto common household
items such as paper, glass, and tea. This, of course, angered the Colonists. They felt like that Great
Britain did not have the right to impose these taxes upon them because they did not elect their
representatives in Parliament. As a result of these acts, the Colonist essentially started to rebel
against Great Britain by boycotting goods shipped over from Britain. In order to maintain the
peace and keep order in the Colonies, King George III and

What Role Does The Satan Play In The Canterbury Tales
In Medieval Literature Satan was often used as a character. There was also more evidence during
this period of time. They were not that obvious unlike others but they were there for sure. They
were often symbolized in a certain character s and personalities that they had throughout the
Prologue. The characters were really relatable to the characteristics of Satanhimself. Satan played a
big role in The Canterbury Tales with the Parson, Pardoner, and Summoned. IN the Prologue of
The Canterbury Tales, the Summoner is immediately characterized as Satan. He is described as
red face with big whelks which are pimples just used in another term back then. In the book
Chaucer says, There was a Summoner with us in the place who had a fire red cherubinnish face
(Chaucer line 642). Not only that but he drinks and when he does , he doesn t care what is
going on around him, According to the text it says, And drinking strong wine till all was hazy ,

The And Managing Student Behavior Essay
PBIS and Managing Student Behavior
Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) is a multi tier strategy based on student
outcome as opposed to a set curriculum. In a classroom it is based on 6 essential practices, but
the strategies can, and should be implemented school wide for maximum benefit. The following
will offer some history on PBIS, a breakdown of the 6 essential classroom practices, and a brief
description of what a three tier strategy would encompass.
History
Positive Behavior Interventions and Strategies (PBIS) was developed in the 1980 s in response to
a need for a more effective management of students with Behavior Disorders (BD) behaviors
(Sugai Simonsen, 2012). Research done at the University of Oregon found that emphasis should be
placed on behavior prevention, and social skill instruction in a school wide system (Sugai Simonsen,
2012). In 1997 with the revision of the Individuals with Disabilities Act (IDEA) a grant was
included to establish a National Center on Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports. The
national center was established with the goal of providing technical assistance to schools for the
support of students with BD (Sugai Simonsen, 2012).
PBIS has its roots in intervention for students with BD, but a shift has taken place to PBIS being a
school wide behavioral support. PBIS is now defined as evidence based interventions to achieve
academically and behaviorally important outcomes for all students (Sugai Simonsen, 2012).

Is King Arthur Real Or Real
For years, historians and scholars have been questioning the truth behind the great King known as
King Arthur. His power and legend have influenced many modern aspects as well as having a direct
effect on various components of British history. Yet, there is not definitive proof as to whether or
not this man was real. King Arthurs story has been told for years upon years and is considered to
be on the of the most heroic legends of all time, but the question still remains: Is King Arthur
real? King Arthur s legend is based off of a true King that was able to defend Britain from a
Saxon invasion. History says that this King was extremely heroic and brave. It is this great
King that the legend comes from. The first time King Arthur s name is mentioned is in the
writings of a Welsh historian, Nennius. He often references to a powerful King named Arthur,
who helped the Britain in twelve specific and real battles. The only problem with this is that it is
impossible for one man to have fought in all said battles. These battles took place all over the
country of Britain and over the course of around a hundred years. It is physically impossible for
one man to have fought in all twelve battles. Ignoring the facts, various Welsh painters decided to
paint the famed King Arthur that Nennius spoke so highly of. Their creation of King Arthur led
to the spread of the mighty King s fame. Nennius s tales went on to spark fire for years to come.
History of the King s of Britain was the

Link Between Rheumatoid Arthritis And Periodontal Disease...
Literature review
The purpose of this review is to assess the links between rheumatoid arthritis and periodontal
disease. Past narrative reviews have identified relationships such as cytokine profiles and
inflammatory mediators, supporting the association that inflammation may be central to
rheumatoid arthritis and periodontal disease. Studies to date provided evidence that the pathological
process in rheumatoid arthritis and periodontal disease are similar. However the relationship
between the extent and severity is to be defined.
Studies 1 and 2 used the standardised critical appraisal tool from the Joanna Briggs Institute. This

White Fang Research Paper
White Fang is a book all about the struggle of life. Jack London uses the process of natural
selection greatly when it comes to expressing the theme. Meaning, if something is not the strongest,
smartest, and most adoptable of its kind it will surely die. This mindset was soon established by the
main character White Fang. From the start he was the strongest of all the wolf cubs, being the
only cub to survive the famine that plagued his family. White Fang s ability to adapt to his
different environments is also a key point concerning to the theme of life. The great examples here
is that he goes from fighting dogs, to obeying new masters, to fight under Beauty and finally to be

section, the CSCC coordinates its efforts with various U.S. intelligence agencies. There are two
guiding principles the intelligence and analysis section follows. First, it must ensure all of its
efforts are interagency coordinated. Prior to the launching of the CSCC, there was very little
interdepartmental coordination. Within the U.S. government, there were multiple agencies with
overlapping responsibilities within the counterterrorism/counter violent extremist realm, yet their
efforts were uncoordinated. Second, the intelligence and analysis section attempts to make the best
use of information provided by intelligence agencies and academic analysis of the adversary of

digital counter violent extremist communication tools. These tools are used to counter terrorist
groups ability to gain support and to recruit new members. The materials produced by this section

Case Study Of Entrepreneur
Introduction
An entrepreneur is a person that can acquire and capture an idea, which could be about presenting
anything, a specific product, or any type of service. He would have the ability and proficiency for
taking up challenges and risks in order to present that idea towards reality and make it happen.
Entrepreneurship on the other hand, consists of the opportunities that would be needed to explore
(Akudolu, 2010).
The following case study would be presenting the entrepreneurial work of Fadi Ghandour, and his
work processes in terms of the Timmons model of entrepreneur and how effective is this model in
the venturing of entrepreneurship (Akudolu, 2010). Further, the study would state the contributing
factors and the learning outcomes from Ghandour s work.
The Entrepreneur and Entrepreneurship In general discussions (Brooks, 2015), an entrepreneur is
supposed to present a new and a different idea. This is true, but bringing an idea is a different
situation. For an entrepreneur, it is also necessary to have the knowledge in how to reach the

This seems like a straightforward description of what entrepreneurship is, but executing such a
process is an extremely complex and hard task. Risking is a huge part of this process, which
could give the resulted outcome in a good, or in a bad way. Ghandour himself had stated that the
NASDAQ listing was a risking process, but even so, he took it. This is because he believes that
in order to bring entrepreneurial success, a person should never be afraid in trying (Lee, 2013).
That is why; executing an idea would require more than just the originality of that idea. In this
process, the entrepreneur initiates a specific business plan and obtains the proper resources for it,

King Henry V Character Analysis
Throughout history, it has been difficult to have a dynastic succession produce good leaders.
However, in William Shakespeare s Henry V, King Henry V is acclaimed as the dynastic successor
to England. Henry has a valid claim to the French throne, but France already has a successor, the
Dauphin. With some convincing and financing from the clergy, Henry decides to fight for his place
as the French heir. In the Battle of Agincourt, Henry demonstrates strong leadership at a young
age. As previously explained in Act I, Henry s father died when he was young, and Henry V
gained a new demeanor and changed his wild ways into proper ethics for royalty. Henry s
personality change leads to his noble leadership, and he seems to lead by example and in words
even as a young king. King Henry s conduct causes him to be a just ruler. King Henry s morality,
impartiality, and authority cause him to be a just ruler. King Henry s morality causes him to be
a just ruler. When Henry rises to the throne, he sheds his reckless personality as much as
possible, and he even distances himself from an old friend, John Falstaff. King Henry becomes
a morally and mentally sound king for England. Henry gains important morals for a ruler such as
humility, grace, piety, and wisdom even at his young age. Henry shows a glimpse of his
humility when he addresses the soldiers before the siege of Harfleur to inspire them for battle.
Henry says that they all must go Once more unto the breach, dear friends, once / more (3.1.1 2).
By addressing the soldiers as dear friends, Henry acknowledges them as equals and even goes as
far as saying that they are his comrades. His humility is loved by his people, so they respond as
motivated and united front for England. A good leader must never hold his/her head higher than
his/her subjects because this makes the ruler more popular when he/she considers all people
equally. Also, Henry is loved by the Church for his piety and other morals. As the Bishop of
Canterbury and the Bishop of Ely discuss the bill about to be passed which would tax the church,
the Bishops mention that Henry V is full of grace and fair reward. / And a true lover of the Church

Analysis of The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock Essay
The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock by T. S. Eliot is a poem I would not recommend anyone
still trying to hang on to his or her youth. T. S. Eliot s poem, about a man named J. Alfred
Prufrock, is a pessimistic poem looking at the seemingly wasted life of an aging man. The poem
is told from the viewpoint of a very sad man named J. Alfred Prufrock. The poem takes place in the
city of St. Louis, which T. S. Eliotdoes not portray in a very good light. T. S Eliot s creation of a
depressing mood, powerful metaphors, and the character of J. Alfred Prufrock all result in a very
disheartening poem, not enjoyable to the middle aged reader, especially male readers. T. S. Eliot
creates an uneasy mood from the very beginning. The first stanza of... Show more content on

T. S. Eliot is showing us just how pathetic J. Alfred Prufrock actually is. It seems that Prufrock s
insecurities stem from his aging appearance. An aging reader may find that they identify will J.
Alfred Prufrock and, understandably, not be too pleased about that fact. In the next stanzas
Eliot continues to develop J. Alfred Prufrock s character. I have measured out my life with
coffee spoons; (l. 51). To imagine a life as a string of coffee cups is a very sad picture. This also
tells us that Prufrock s life has been a boring one. The following stanza utilizes some potent
metaphors to describe Prufrock s thoughts. The eyes that fix you in a formulated phrase (l. 56).
The diction T. S. Eliot uses here is very effective. Eliot does not simply state that the women
have a preconceived notion of Prufrock. A formulated phrase is a strong way to say that the
women look at him and automatically stereotype him. And when I am formulated, sprawling on a
pin, / When I am pinned and wriggling on the wall, (l. 57 58). Eliot uses another strong metaphor
here. These lines in the poem create the image of Prufrock struggling while pinned to the wall like
bug. In the next lines Prufrock is again questioning himself, Then how should I begin/ To spit out

the model of the white cube and how it starts to be the ideally model for the art exhibition. Far
away from the previous conception of the exhibition where the Salon Model was predominant.
Nevertheless it starts to be clear that this model is not perfect: directly connected with the business

Why Did The Alcatraz Escape
The great escape from Alcatraz. One of the biggest mysteries to ever exist, nobody has ever
found out where the 3 escapees vanished that day. 36 of the dangerous criminals made an escape
to escape Alcatraz, with only 3 escaping (Guidekick, N.D.). These dangerous tricksters escaped
into the Pacific Ocean, never being found again. According to some deep researching research and
proof, it is possible that the 3 escapees could still be alive today.
In 1962, the Alcatraz escape took place. The names of the three escapees were Frank Morris, John
Anglin, and Clarence Anglin (Donnelly, 2015). They were never seen again after the escape.
According to NPR Most people assume the men have been at the bottom of the bay or were
swept out to sea since the night they broke free, tunneling out of their cells in part with spoons
from the kitchen and climbing the prisons plumbing to the roof (Bergman, 2012). All of these
escapees made fake heads out of material squeezed out from the prison s walls. The escapees also
made an escape raft with only raincoats. These prisoners had amazing routes to escape Alcatraz.

The main theory is that the Alcatraz escapees made it off the island, but drowned in the sea
because of the harsh current, this is believable because the Alcatraz escapees weren t ever truly
found again (Salinger, 2015). Another belief was that the men never made it off the Island and
this escape attempt was hidden from the public. Even though these are explainable, the last theory
is that the escapees survived! With technology, researchers have simulated how the escapees
would look like now in their 80s (Donnelly, 2015). There have been people around the world
which look similar to them as well (Noyes, 2016)! The could have changed their identity. If they

Research And Development ( R D ) And Acquisitions
Research and development (R D) and acquisitions are a firm s core areas for innovation, which sets
the stage for its ability to compete in the market based on what cutting edge technology or ideas the
company has gathered. Accordingly, globalization and increased competition has led companies to
become more efficient and reevaluate whether to outsource R D or to innovate in house. When
opting to outsource, companies should look at their organization at a functional level, and identify
the processes and tasks in order to identify opportunities that can be gained from outsourcingversus
developing in house. Additionally, companies should focus not on where the innovationoccurs, but
rather who will ultimately have control of the final... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Efficiency of a company turns on being able to produce in the shortest amount of time while
maintaining quality. Thus, outsourcing allows a company to be efficient where in house the same
task could not be accomplished in a reasonable amount of time.
Opting to outsource R D is also a good business strategy when the skillset is not found within the
organization. No matter how talented a company is, it simply cannot possess all the talent and
innovation under one roof. Thus, outsourcing R D allows companies to utilize talent pools from all
over the world. Companies may even outsource within their own country by hiring contractors or
freelancers. For example, in order to stay competitive, technology companies simply do not have
the time to conduct in house R D. Instead, it is more efficient to outsource or acquire unique
technologies of other companies to expand their technology portfolio relatively quickly and align
itself with talented people. For example, Yahoo, Inc., an internet search engine tool, acquired Flickr,
a photo sharing site a completely different component than its own. Acquisitions give companies the
ability to acquire a product that is already created; access to a talent pool that has experience
employing the technology; and a market that is familiar with the product. Acquisition is also a
strategic way to eliminate a competitor and become an active player in the competitive market

Identification is the first of the four steps in this process. Any user that expects to gain access to a
system referred to as a supplicant, and the tool that every user who gains entry to the network,
referred to as an Identifier. The identifier can have numerous different methods for identifying the
supplicant. The identifier should be able to locate the users credentials from a database of unique
information that determines the supplicants identity. The most common form of verification is
through using the employees first and last name. In case there happen to be colleagues with
common names, such as John Doe, employee Id s or Social Security numbers remain utilized. In a
good number of companies, they are no longer using the employee s Social Security number to
identify them in their system. They are replacing them with an employee ID. This reduces the
information that a network intruder (also known as a hacker) or another employee gaining access
to their Social Security numbers. Authentication is the second step in this process. Once
identification of the employee is established, there will be a request for input from that user. That
will either corroborate to the system that he or she is who they claim to be or that they are not who
they claim to be.
The complexity of the authentication process depends on the type of information that needs

Irrigation Medicine Case Study
The effects of different irrigation treatments and CO2 concentrations on the stomatal
conductance (gs) and transpiration rate (Tr), of maize are shown in Fig. 4a, b, c, d. The figure
shows that gs and Tr decreased with the enrichment of CO2 concentrations under both RI and
DI. Compared with RI400, gs and Tr were 27 and 23% lower under DI400; for the elevated CO2
concentrations, gs and Tr were 22 36 and 25 26% lower under DI when compared with RI. Relative
reductions in gs and Tr due to the DI treatment were therefore more pronounced along with elevated
CO2 concentrations.
Compared with RI400, RI550 RI700 RI900 decreased gs by 13, 22, and 33%, and Tr by 12, 23,
and 38%, respectively. Compared with DI400, DI550 DI700 DI900 decreased gs by 8, ... Show

While compared with DI400, DI550 DI700 DI900 increased Tleaf by 2.4, 4.0, and 5.7%,
respectively. Hence the relatively increase in Tleaf caused by elevated CO2 concentrations was
higher under DI than under RI. Leaf temperature was highly correlated with Tr under most
conditions (Pallas et al., 1967). And it was obvious to see that the higher Tr was shown in the
markedly lower Tleaf, and vice versa, namely the so called transpiration cooling effect (Pallas et
al., 1967). So when the elevated CO2 concentration reduced Tr, the Tleaf increased. Also with
decrease in soil water in DI condition, Tr was decreasing; meanwhile, Tleaf rose more remarkable
than that only under elevated CO2 conditions. As that Tr cannot be ignored in the changes of
Tleaf (Cook et al., 1964; Gates, 1964), and Tr changes was more pronounced under DI, so as to the
changes of Tleaf.
Figure 4 e and f show the effect of different irrigation treatments and CO2 concentrations on net
photosynthetic rate (Pn). Net photosynthetic rate increased with the enrichment of CO2
concentration. Compared with RI400, Pn was 24% lower under DI400; for the elevated CO2
concentrations, Pn was 15 20% lower under DI when compared with RI. Relative reductions in Pn
due to the DI treatment was therefore weakened along with elevated CO2 concentrations.
Compared with RI400, RI550 RI700 RI900 increased Pn by 30, 45, and 59%, respectively, while
compared with DI400, DI550 DI700 DI900 increased Pn by 37, 51, and 77%,

What Is Mccandless Idealism In Into The Wild
It has been said that the road to hell is paved with good intentions. Such is the case with
Christopher McCandless, the main protagonist within Into the Wild, by Jon Krakauer.
McCandless sets out of a journey to remove himself from his privileged upper class upbringing
by trekking into the Alaskan Wilderness. While McCandless s intentions are to prove to himself
that he can be independent and make his own life outside of his parent s net of privilege, those
intentions are dashed to the ground when he dies of starvation due to his lack of preparations for
his journey. McCandless s isolated himself from his family, and instead connected with random
strangers on his expedition to Alaska, keeping in contact with said strangers instead. Due to his
foolhardiness and childish idealism, McCandless made a journey into the wildthat would be his
last, ripping his selfish presence away from all those who had ever loved him. Christopher
McCandlessis the poster child for a reckless narcissist. This can be supported by facts from my
own life. My stepbrother had a privileged upbringing that could rival that of McCandless. When
he barely graduated high school, my stepbrother was provided college tuition in full to attend
Kennesaw State University, where he would be allowed to live on campus full time, along with
a car that was paid for. He was also provided with monthly gas money, as well as a budget to buy
whatever food and toiletries he could ever possibly need. Similar to McCandless,

Essay On Sport As A Unifier
Ro ee Tal12 NPhysical Education Written Task
A: Sport as a unifier
1.Yes, I do believe sporting events contribute to unifying a nation. Majority of people an any given
nation tend to enjoy and support sporting events, irrespective of the sport itself. As a result, sport
acts as a common ground between people of different socioeconomic, religious, racial and other
backgrounds. This common ground forces people of different backgrounds to interact and to treat
each other with sportsmanship and equality. Therefore, sport both lowers and raises every single
type of person to the same level, which allows for them to integrate with each other in positive
ways and unify them as equals. For example, when South Africa scored their first ... Show more

Doping in sports occurs for two reasons. The first being the physical difficulty and requirement
of the sport. The second being the etiquette and attitude in the sport. Take cycling and
bodybuilding for example. The training and records each year are increasing, and athletes
believe the only way for them to compete with these records is to dope because it is almost
physically impossible to lift 300 kg or cycle for 21 days without a break in the times people are
getting today. On the other hand, no one in table tennis dopes, because they are not physically
challenged to extreme degrees. Therefore, the physical requirements and stress that a sport puts
on athletes can cause them to result to doping. Another reason some sports are more prone to
doping is based on the sport itself. Take golf for example. Golfers or inherently and stereotypically
sophisticated, moral, upstanding and classy, which is why they do not dope. They simply do not
see cheating as part of the game and wish to take no part in such obscenities. Therefore doping in
sport is also reliant on the attitude that is perpetuated by the sport and how the athletes view the

On Friday, April, 4, 2014, I observed the Vanderburgh County Superior Court to observe different
family law cases. The cases I heard involved contempt of court for failing to pay child support,
failure to appear for a court appointed drug test, birth certificate affidavit, request for contest hearing

family court hearings. When entering the courthouse, I was greeted by security and advised to

I was still filled with anticipation and was quite surprised at the differences between my first and
second experience. I was formally dressed and did not really blend in with anyone else sitting in
the courtroom. The attorneys seemed to come and go as they pleased, with no deference or respect
for the proceedings in session.
The first case that was presented involved a man that was currently incarcerated in the
Vanderburgh County jail. The inmate was able to plead his case, telling the judge that he was
not able to work because he was injured, and therefore had no income to pay for child support.
After looking at the past payments the inmate made through the court, it revealed that before he
was incarcerated he had made one payment to the child s mother. He claimed that he was out of
work because he had broken his leg, but failed to provide an statements from his employer
stating he was either let go or not able to work because of an injury. All payments had stopped
for whatever reason. The judge found the inmate in contempt of court for failure to obey a court
order. He could not prove to the judge that he deliberately disobey the court s order to pay child
support. In the end, the judge found him irresponsible and sentenced him to 90 days in jail along
with a $1000 fine. After he was sentenced, he was escorted out of the front of the courtroom by the
bailiff.

Observing Double Displacement Reactions
Observing Double Displacement Reactions
Purpose:
The purpose of the lab is to determine and observe the different double displacement reactions that
occur when certain reactants are mixed. Double displacement reactions will be classified with the
use of indicators.
Introduction:
Chemical reactions occur very often in people s everyday lives. There are six main types of reaction.
These include decomposition reactions, synthesis reactions, single displacement reactions, double
displacement reactions, combustion reactions, and nuclear reactions. Both single and double
displacement reactions can be broken down into more specific reactions. Single displacement
reactions can be classified as metal displacement, which is cation; and halogen displacement, which
is anion. Double displacement reactions will break into three different situations: formation of a
gas, formation of a solid (precipitate), and neutralization.
The lab is focused on the observation of double displacement reactions, as opposed to the other five
types. Double displacement reaction consists of two compounds, both with anions and cations,
reacting with each other. During the reaction, the positive cations of each compound switch places
with each other, creating two completely new compounds. Double displacement reactions generally
occur when both of the reactants are in aqueous form, or in other words, dissolved in water. When
determining the states of the products in a double displacement reaction, it

Nat Turner was a man with a vision that would change America forever. His vision may

Nat Turner is the most famous and most controversial slave rebel in American history, and he
remains a storm center of dispute( Fires of Jubilee author Stephen B. Oates).

Reading the bible is where Nat received many of his callings to start his massive slave
revolt.
As Nat grew a little older, his life began to change in a succession of unsuspected shocks.
First, his father ran away to the North, leaving Nat and Nancy still in slavery. After escaping he was
never heard from again, but Nat never forgot him( Fires of Jubilee ). Around 1810 Nat s master
Benjamin, died of a typhoid epidemic that was sweeping through the small Virginia neighborhood.
In Master Benjamin s will, he divided his land and his slaves among his children. Nat and his
mother now became property of Samuel Turner. Master Samuel was a cruel slave owner compared
to his. Like his father he was religious but he scared Christian religion into his slaves. He told them
that God had brought them to the new world to serve the white man, and that they were to be
obedient to the whites. He said if the slaves tried ever to revolt or try to escape they would burn in
hell with Satan forever. Nat lived under these ridiculous beliefs while on the plantation yet his
belief in the lord and the bible never favored. Another new experience was presented to Nat when
he turned twelve, he started to work difficult and laborious chores like the older male slaves. He
could no longer play games with white children, no more fishing and cavorting. The same white
children he and the

An Ethical Mind That Respect For Others Into Something...
According to The Harvard Business Review An ethical mind broadens respect for others into
something more abstract. A person with an ethical mind asks herself, What kind of a person,
worker, and citizen do I want to be? If all workers in my profession adopted the mind set I have, or
if everyone did what I do, what would the world be like? (Fryer). I believe I definitely have an
ethical mind, ever since I was child I always wondered what kind of overall person I would be
and how that would affect others and my character. I always try to be as respectful and morally

A deontologist focuses on doing what is right . Like stated above, a lot of my ethical background
has come from the characteristics I was taught as a child such as honesty, fairness, and respect for
others.
Although I do not have much professional leadership experience, in my personal and what I
believe my profession style would be is a coaching approach. A coaching approach is a high
directive high supportive style. In this approach, the leader focuses communication on both
achieving goals and meeting followers socioemotional needs (Northouse, 2016, p.94). These
types of leaders are approachable, provide personal and professional support, and are friendly.
This is the kind of leader I would want to be, efficient in work productivity, but also welcoming
and supportive of my employees. This style of leadership builds trust and honesty, which makes
employees more likely to present ethical dilemmas to you, because they know the issue will be
dealt with in a fair and just manner.
One leadership model that I value is Blake and Mouton s Managerial (Leadership) Grid. The
Leadership (Managerial) Grid joins concern for productions and concern for people in a model
that has two interesting axes (Northouse, 2016, p.75). The horizontal axis signifies the leader s
concern for production, and the vertical axis signifies the leader s concern for people. Each side
of the grid is drawn to a 9 point scale, in which a 1 stands for minimum concern and a 9 stands for

grounded on the constantly comparison between the American domestic life with her own

Stereotypes In The Searchers Movie
The Searchers (1956) directed by John Ford is a Western movie following the life of Ethan
Edwards as he searches for his niece, Debby, who was captured by a Comanche tribe. In this
film, there is a scene (1:13:42 1:15:50) which shows Ethan and Marty going into a US Cavalry
fort to see if the Cavalry officers have Debby or not. When Ethan and Marty go into the fort, they
see a white woman on the floor, screaming and rocking around, and two girls sitting dumbly. Then
Ethan and Marty decide that Debby is not there and leave.

In the time this film was made, the dying days of the classic Western, Native Americans were being
portrayed as the savage side less and less. (ref: http://www.rogerebert.com/reviews/great movie the
searchers 1956). The director, John Ford, believed that hatred of Native Americans was wrong,
but the message in this scene of the film contradicts his beliefs. However this does not mean
John Ford was racist, it simply shows the ideas that were common in society in the time this film
was made. John Ford used the characters Ethan and the US Cavarly officers to embody the ideas
of society in the 1950 s. Later in the film, the prejudice against Native Americans reduces in Ethan
s character. At the time of this scene, he hates Native Americans with no exceptions. However
near the end of the movie he becomes more tolerant of Native Americans, for example when he
brought Debby home safely instead of killing her. As killing Debby would ve put Ethan into bad
light, the decision of him not killing her brings an anti racism message, which was something that
John Ford believed in. This helps highlight change of character in Ethan. It shows that people
should look past race and skin colour when making decisions about and loving people. In
comparison to the racist message in

Hearing And Responding To Jack London s The Call Of The Wild
Hearing and Responding to the Call of the Wild At the beginning of The Call of the Wild, Jack
London presents a quotation from Atavism, a 1902 poem by John Myers O Hara that encapsulates
one of the main motifs of the novel: Old longings nomadic leap, Chafing at custom s chain; Again
from its brumal sleep..[brumal: winter] Wakens the ferine strain. . [ferine: savage, fierce, wild] One
characteristics of naturalismis Determinism theory of Heredity. In the novel heredity is mainly

The man could leap high and swing in trees. And closely akin to the visions of the hairy man was
the call still sounding in the depths of the forest. It filled him with a great unrest and strange
desires. It caused him to feel a vague, sweet gladness, and he was aware of wild yearnings and
stirrings for he knew not what. Sometimes he pursued the call into the forest, looking for it as
though it were a tangible thing, barking softly or defiantly, as the mood might dictate. (Chapter
VII, The Sounding of the Call ). Buck s experiences in the northland wilderness awakened in him
the long dormant instincts of a wild carnivore. When he acted on these instincts by killing the
moose, for example, or befriending the wolf brother he was responding to the call of the wild.
His atavism that was, his reversion to the behavior of his canine ancestors gradually transformed
him into a wolf like creature that prefers to live in a savage environment in which he must fight
and kill to live. In the last chapter of The Call of the Wild, there was always a scene that Buck felt
the call of the life in the wild drawing him away from mankind, away from campfire and towns,

Summary Of Barbara Ehrenreich s Nickel And Dimed
There are different people in different locations with different living situations in the world.
Everyone is different. Some people are rich and some are poor, but that s how society works. The
rich are getting richer and the poor seem to be getting poorer. In the book Nickel and Dimed; On
(Not) Getting By in America published in 2001 by Barbara Ehrenreich, an author with a Ph.D. in
biology, the topic of povertyis explored. Ehrenreich wrote this book based on her curiosity of how
uneducated people with low wage jobs survive life in poverty. This book is organized into five
sections: Introduction: Getting Ready, Serving in Florida, Scrubbing in Maine, Selling in
Minnesota, and Evaluation. In the introduction, Ehrenreich explains how she... Show more content

is that she considered it to be a high pay. She has been accustomed to the average $6 pay that she

Minnesota, Ehrenreich realizes that despite being paid a similar amount between two jobs, one

unsafe and skeptical. Although she is acting, Ehrenreich realizes that the way a person needs to

Philadelphia Centennial Of 1876 Research Paper
The Philadelphia Centennial of 1876 is the origin starting point for a rebirth of the colonial
architectural heritage of America and the early English and Dutch houses of the Atlantic seaboard.
The increasing popularity of colonial influences on contemporary architecture motivated a highly
publicized tour of a group of architects in 1877 who observed and recorded Georgian and Federal
houses of New England. The simplicity of colonial designs and honest use of materials with more
economical plans than the recently popular picturesque homes also contributed to the growing
popularity of the style. Even a century after modern architecturewas introduced, Colonial Revival
motifs continue to be popular in new construction. These homes got their

Explain The Main Organs In The Urinary System
The main organs in the urinary system for mammals are the kidneys, which filter blood and
produce urine. The other organs such as the ureters, urinary bladder and the urethra are simply
accessory structures that help in the transport and storage of urine.
The kidneys of mammals are round, bean shaped organs. These kidneys are located at the posterior
end of the abdomen and outside of the peritoneum, which is the membrane that encloses the organs
of the abdominal cavity. The indentation found on the bean shaped part of the kidney is called the
hilum, this is where the renal artery enters the kidney and where both the renal vein and ureter exit.
The kidney is also divided into 2 regions, which is the outer cortex and the inner medulla. In the
cortex, this is where blood is filtered ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is also where more water and electrolytes are absorbed. From here, the filtrate is passed through
the distal convoluted tubule, where excess potassium ions, hydrogen ions and toxins are passed
from the blood into the filtrate. The end product is dumped into a large collecting duct, which then
leads to the papillae of pyramids, through the calyxes, and into the renal pelvis to be excreted
through the ureters. From the ureters, urine is passed down to the urinary bladder. The outer
surface of the urinary bladder is covered with fibrous connective tissue. Inside the connective tissue
is a muscular layer called the detrusor muscle. This smooth muscle contracts to expel urine from the
bladder. The next tissue layer, the submucosa, is an elastic fibrous membrane that supports the
mucosa, which lines the inside of the bladder. The opening of the urethra is surrounded by a band
of detrusor muscle, forming an internal urethral sphincter. This sphincter is relaxed by involuntary
muscle control, and is innervated in a way that when the bladder is approximately half full, the
animal will recognize the urge to urinate. The last passageway for urine is through the

Humans Causing Decline in Biodiversity Essays
As far as we can say, intelligent, modern humans have been around for roughly 50,000 years, and in
that time have altered the earth beyond recognition (Morrison, 2006). Most evident in recent years,
the rapidity of technological advances both during and post the industrial revolution has been
astonishing, but has come with a hefty ecological price. There is wide scientific consensus that we
are presently witnessing the obsolescence of species on a prodigious scale. We are now having to
accept the possibility that humans might just be a contributing influence.
Predominantly we rely on one measure to compare the rate of species loss between various
moments in history. The background rate of extinctionis approximately 1 extinction per ... Show

The Mascarene island of Mauritius national emblem remains to this day the dodo, despite the fact
that it is one of the most infamous cases of manmade extinction. Previously isolated from humans,
the largest member of the pigeon family possessed a curious and innocently trusting nature when
sailors first arrived on the island in the early 1600 s. Despite its flesh being absurdly tasteless, the
dodo s gullibility and lack of leggy zip (Bryson, 2003) proved an irresistible target for young
seamen and their pets. So blissfully ignorant was the raphus cucullatus that you had only to set one
squawking and all its friends from the immediate surroundings would rush to your side. Within
seventy years of our first meeting with the dodos the last one was dead, pointlessly hunted to
extinction by humans and the animals we introduced (Flannery Schouten, 2001).
Myriad methods exist through which we are directly and indirectly placing pressure on flora and
fauna. A growing global population puts more strain on the agriculture industry, triggering agrarian
and urban expansion. Land clearing reduces habitat size, while large environmental enterprises such
as the damming of rivers can either flood or dehydrate vast areas of terrain. Although not so
common nowadays, introduced species have in the past entirely missed their intended purpose,
eventually poisoning, killing or in the very least competing with native animals. Diseases and
infections can also

An Analysis Of When Worlds Collide
The term When Worlds Collide describes the convergence of the old and new worlds. In the year
of 1492, Christopher Columbus sailed westward across the Atlantic Ocean with the hope of
finding a new sea route from Europe to India. Though he struck land, it was not Indian soil. Where
he landed was a new worldfull of promise and foreign goods, but also tragedy and challenges. Soon,
many nations from Europecame to the Americas, such as the Spanish, French, and the English. The
controversy between the worlds that followed this justifies the use of the word collide as opposed
to When Worlds Meet ; the collision vastly changed both worlds, positively and negatively.

However, what the Conquistadors did not realize was that the jewelry of the natives was the only
gold they had. A Spanish Conquistador turned missionary named Bartolome de las Casas described
the torturous conditions that the Spanish put the natives through in his book, The Deconstruction
of the Indies. Of all the nations that came to the Americas, the Spanish were by far the most cruel
and power hungry of them all.
On the polar opposite of the spectrum were the French. While the Spanish settled the southern
Americas and treated the Indians poorly, the French settled the northernmost parts of America, but
treated the natives with respect and honor. Instead of demanding things and forcing the Indians to
give them precious goods, the French traded with the natives and built an alliance with them. Many
Indians converted to Christianity because the religion was not being forced upon them, unlike the
Spanish and natives in the south. This type of alliance could be the basis of a strong bond between
the Indians and new settlers, but this bond is, again, broken when the English arrive to the east
coast of the native s land.
In 1606, the English entered the search for gold in the new world by settling in Jamestown,
Virginia. They faced harsh winters, scolding summers, and starvation, but perhaps the biggest
challenge in which they faced was the Powhatan Indians. This group of natives strongly defended
their invaded land, making it

When most people think about sociology they generally think of the study of sociology. However,
sociology is much deeper than just the study of sociology. It displays a plethora of sub topics such
as: crime, deviance, bureaucracy, culture, criminality, socialization, economy, politics, religion,
education, social class and many more. Throughout this fall semester this sociology course has
taught me things that I could never imagine. To be more specific there were actually ten topics that
I learned in this course that was very important to me. Those topics were: crime, deviance,

Shortly after the modernization time period there becomes a development of key ideas
/ sociological ideas from Auguste Comte, Karl Marx, and Emile Durkheim. The most interesting
thing about learning their key ideas were and where they originated. August Comte obtained the
key ideas of the Renaissance and the formation of a good society that consisted of a good society
of exploitation, poverty, inequality, and degradation.Karl Marx s key ideas were composed of the
mode of production, class systems, bourgeoisie, the rise of socialism and communism, capitalist
system and the working class. Make a comparison of the sociology of Karl Marx and Max Weber.
Give examples. Karl Marx and Max Weber had different views and perspectives on society. For
example, Karl Marx believed that the capitalist system of society would disintegrate due to the
revolt of the working class. However, Max Weber preferred the study of social and rational
action, he thought social action was meaningful. Max also speculated that capitalism is a
constellation of social actions. The major sociological ideas of Emile Durkheim were: collective
consciousness, social facts, and industrial society. In the industrial society he believed that there
would have been more crime and deviance because of the breakdown for the balance between
moral absolutism and individual freedom.Durkheim s theory on egoistic suicide was based on a

Since 9/11, radical Islamic groups have hit other countries especially in Europe. While 119
Americans have been killed by Islamic extremists in twenty three different accounts, Europe has
been a target for these groups with a higher casualty number. Paris alone has more deaths at 130 in
a single event, and fifty other terrorist attacks in Europe occurred in 2017 so far. Whether zero
were killed or hundreds were injured, Europe has been hit immensely in addition to the United
States when it comes to terrorists attacks. The attacks on these predominantly non muslim or
islamic countries has increased since the War of Terrorism started after 9/11. When the United
States was hit on September 11th, Al Qaedaclaimed responsibility for both the attack on the World
Trade Center and the pentagon. The United States had not been hit by a foreign group since the
CIA headquarters shooting in 1993. October 12, 2002, Al Qaeda also took credit for the attack
that happened in Indonesia at a nightclub killing 202 people. In 2003, Iraq was attacked by a
group called Tawhid wa al Jihad which later becomes part of the Al Qaeda group in Iraq. Spain,
United Kingdom, Egypt, India, and Uganda have all been attacked since the start of the attacks by

What is communication? We often define communication as the act of talking to one another via
different platforms, be it face to face, via emails or even through videos. Through this act, we are
trying to pass a message or relate something to the intended audience. We face this every day in
our lives, even if we do not leave the house and talk to anyone. For example, even reading a
cooking recipe is counted as a form of communication. It is a form of communication between the
reader and the writer. The reader is trying to comprehend and follow the steps given by the writer
whereas the writer would be writing in a form whereby the steps is simple yet precise. So here are

Many people would know of this unfortunate incident, but not many would know that it was
probably the cause of an ineffective communication. The incident goes as follows, In July of
1945, the allied leaders had a meeting in Potsdam and they submitted a stiffly worded declaration
of surrender terms to the Japanese. These terms had included a statement to the effect that any
negative answer would invite prompt and utter destruction. The allied leaders (Harry S Truman,
Winston Churchill and Stalin) also stated that they hoped that Japan would agree to surrender
unconditionally and prevent devastation of the Japanese homeland and that they patiently
awaited Japan s answer. This was known as the Potsdam Declaration. The Japanese Premier at
that time, Kantaro Suzuki answered using the Japanese word mokusatsu , which is derived from
the word for silence . Yet, this word had a second meaning which also means not worthy of
comment . In the heat of the moment, the meaning was thought to be the second one, which may
be true as the Japanese were very prideful, as we can see from the Kamikaze spirit. To rather die
than be captured. After the allied leaders knew of this reply, ten days later the atomic bomb was

formal definition, a hearing loss is, a spectrum of disorders causing a disruption or distortion of
auditory information reaching or being processed by the central nervous system. Hearing losses not
only effect adults or the elderly, they are also prevalent among children. As future teachers, we

In particular, seventy percent of genetic, congenital, cases have no syndromes. Children are
often diagnosed around twenty months due to this factor. Also, a good amount of genetic
hearing losses, eighty percent to be exact are autosomal recessive. This means that the parents
do not have a hearing loss, but they are carriers. This gives physicians less information that
would alert them of an infantile hearing loss. During the elementary years, children with this
loss can encounter a variety of obstacles. One big obstacle can occur with the development of
reading skills. Since reading and reading comprehension is so important for life this can be a
huge setback if it is not met with intensive intervention. According to research, the median
reading level for high school graduates with hearing loss falls between fourth and fifth grade. If
a child with a loss is able to begin their school years already knowing the alphabet, they will have
a much higher chance of being a grade level reader. Knowing the alphabet early on in life is able
to increase the phonological awareness that the child has. Their phonological awareness can
predict their future reading abilities. Children who are deaf or hard of hearing are known to have
troubles when it comes to their social lives especially with their hearing peers. According to Anita,
Jones, and Luckner, Individuals who lack social skills are often rejected by others and are at risk
for developing mental health problems.

easy it is to add media to a post and how to actually finalize a post so in this lesson we are going to
talk about setting up post.

We have also got an option here to customize our permalinks where we might want to actually
create a really custom URL s, so coolurlhere . so that s exactly what I wanted if I want to have a

lot of cool stuff because its dated base driven content it s not actually connected to these URL s so
you can change these and if you don t like it, you can actually ... Show more content on

Another really cool feature we can create galleries to better organize our images.
[Screenshot5]
So we have one more thing we are able to actually link it to a custom URL, we can link it to the
media file or we can just leave it without a link so that can all be done right here Custom URL all
we had in that link there.
[Screenshot6]
And here you have those size options that we looked at earlier and we have got the ability for
thumbnail, medium large and as you can see its updated the dimensions so that the width there
is always going to be that max width of 300 but the height is the one that s going to change so we
don t have disproportionate images because if we uploaded an image and if we wanted a square
300x300 we can t do that with an image of size 1200x630.
[Screenshot7]
So keep that in mind and I am just going to leave it as a medium by default because this is
probably the best way to go when I am adding it to my page. And now I have to do insert post and
there it gets inserted, I see that I have got the caption when I go to the actual HTML it s created all
of that HTML so caption ID it s giving some mega information there and it s also got a class so
size medium so that s where it s getting that max medium of 300. [Screenshot8]
So this is a really good option with these captions and this mega information captions are good for
screen readers and so on and a lot of themes and templates really do take advantage of what s

The outcome of the actions of these warriors is battle and bloodshed as the way to achieve this
glory. Achilles is the main war hero in the poem. He is passionate, enraged, and vain. The temper
Achilles possesses causes the atrocious actions he commits. As courageous as he was, he was
unable at first to grasp the concept of pure character. After his actions and their consequences
become clear, he begins to understand the meaning of ones true self. This gives Achilles a
purpose: to chose between life and dignity. Hector is known for being the most courageous
warrior of all Troy. He is the Trojan warrior that seizes the need for battle. In the poem he
becomes Achilles enemy after the death of Patroklos (Homer Book 16). Hector does not
compare to Achilles other than his need for honor. Both of these men are fighting for not only
their glory, but for their people as well. Social status was the major concept of the Greek society.
This is around the time that we would call The Homeric Society. The Homeric Society was a
time period that was based specifically off of Homer s epic poems, indicating a time of social
restoration and rebirth of idolizing a monarchy (Keller 5). The Greeks used the idea of power to
make their culture fit for a more noble order of society. According to the book Greece in the
Making, All of these poems belong to a world where political authority is being debated

  • 2. Essay on Evolution of the Geeks Evolution of the Geeks In the past 20th century, the word geek has evolved into many different meanings. The term branched off to create a person with low social skills, often with high intelligence, a person highly interested in computer technology, and a person with a devotion to something that places him or her outside of the mainstream. Geek usually has negative connotations within popular culture, where being a geek tends to be an insult. The term can also be a badge of honor among subcultures, such as the know it all of Star Trek. Media dictates popular culture. The television sitcoms I ve watched growing up all displayed who is the stereotype for a geek. Steve Urkel from Family Matters, Screech from Saved By The Bell, Ross ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He was often bullied, made fun of, and taken advantaged from the more physically fit male students. He also provided the comic relief to the show by being the ever so annoying neighbor. The character was also showed a love interest to Laura Winslow, a popular and smart classmate and neighbor played by Kellie Shanygne Williams. In order to pursue her heart, Urkel invented a machine to transform his physical geeky image to a hunky and charming man, which became his alter ego Stephan. The need to become accepted into what is considered cool implies that being a geek is undesirable to the opposite sex. There is shame placed on the geek about his outer appearance. Urkel created this alter ego to match his crush s status as the popular and beautiful student. People would consider them a good match since their outer appearances depict cool. If a geek were to go out with the hottest cheerleader, people would perceive that as abnormal. With the geek s appearance changed, his confidence is higher and can allow him to walk with his head held up high. Sex plays a major role when it comes to the gender of geeks. Males are usually favored to portray geeks. A stereotypical image of a geek would be a pencil neck geek with pocket protectors and suspenders. It embodies everything that is opposite of the Marlboro man: the rugged All American man. Levels of masculinity are weighed to determine how much of a man one is. During football games, ... • 4. Jessica Rodriguez Essay The Romanticism in Wordsworth Romantic poetry has very distinct details which set it apart from previous poetry. William Wordsworth s poem, I Wandered Lonely As A Cloud, is full of the Romantic characteristics which were so different during that time. The poem begins with the speaker floating along, as though he or she were a cloud, when he or she spots a crowd/ ..., of golden daffodils (Wordsworth, 3,4). The speaker goes on to describe the daffodils and the lake that is beside them. The images of the daffodils return to mind during a difficult time , and cheers him up. It is important to note that the speaker is speaking in first person. As this is a commonly used technique in romantic poetry, it is easy to assume ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In the first line of the poem, the speaker is metaphorically referred to as a cloud. Then, the speaker s feelings are transmitted onto the daffodils, actually giving the daffodils his feelings. By doing this, the reader can associate his or her own feelings in a similar manner. It allows the reader to envision exactly how the speaker is feeling. This type of reverence for nature is a strong characteristic of Romantic poetry. Another important Romantic element used in this poem is the emotional one in human beings. This poem is full of emotion on the part of the speaker. He even views the daffodils as having such emotion. There is a progressive change, even an emotional maturity, taking place in him based on what is happening in the poem. The speaker speaks first of his loneliness which later turns to joy. Then, while in a depressed state, is able to return to that bliss by the simple remembrance of what he saw. Romanticism also focuses on the desire to understand what influences the mind. In the final stanza, the speaker s loneliness is, once again, pushed away by the remembrance of the dancing daffodils. The speaker has discovered that by him associating with nature, he can change the tone of the inward eye (21). Memory, as is important in this poem, serves a great purpose. It allows one to simply forget what is happening in one s life for just a moment, and reflect on something that brought peace and meaning at one ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Gardner Versus Traditional Teaching Methods Rhetorical... Gardner vs Traditional Teaching Methods Mr. Gardner expresses the theory that students should first learn how to understand a few important subjects and be able to decipher unique situations rather than just memorize facts for standardized tests. He builds his argument eloquently using mainly logos and ethos as his persuasive methods. He uses logos by making the reader think logically and digest not only his opinion, but the opinion of other experts. As for ethos, Mr. Gardner impresses upon the reader that he has a wealth of knowledge and an extensive background in the subject of education. Professor Gardner presents logos by quoting psychologists and educators, usage of historical analysis, and real world examples. This forces the reader to think about their own experiences and how they were taught and what teaching style would be best for their own children or themselves. He believes that students should learn to appreciate multiple perspectives about a subject and rid themselves of their simplistic misconceptions (Gardner 634). However, wiping the mental slate clean he says, is not a simple task and he furthers his point using logos in paraphrasing Lauren Resnick , disconfirming experiences do not always suffice to dissolve faulty conceptions and ... • 7. King George IIi Of Great Britain It was the late 1700 s, the New England Colonies were being ruled by the cynical, power hungry tyrant known as King George III of Great Britain. Although King George did not initialize the colonization of America, he had a drastic effect on its history and what makes modern America what it is today. ¬¬ In order for the Boston Massacreto even occur, there had to be some sort of negative stimulus surrounding the Colonists that could and would trigger such an event. Some of this negative stimulus stemmed from King George and his unnecessary acts imposed upon the colonists. These acts included: The Stamp Act of 1764 and Sugar Act of 1764, which set hefty tax on stamps as well as sugar and molasses. The Sugar Act of 1764 had the most impact on the colonies. It impacted the manufacture of rum, which, at the time, was an important export from the Colonies. There was an act passed known as the Townshend Actsof 1767; this act in particular made the Colonists furious with Great Britain because it added a tax onto common household items such as paper, glass, and tea. This, of course, angered the Colonists. They felt like that Great Britain did not have the right to impose these taxes upon them because they did not elect their representatives in Parliament. As a result of these acts, the Colonist essentially started to rebel against Great Britain by boycotting goods shipped over from Britain. They were not that obvious unlike others but they were there for sure. They were often symbolized in a certain character s and personalities that they had throughout the Prologue. The characters were really relatable to the characteristics of Satanhimself. Satan played a big role in The Canterbury Tales with the Parson, Pardoner, and Summoned. IN the Prologue of The Canterbury Tales, the Summoner is immediately characterized as Satan. He is described as red face with big whelks which are pimples just used in another term back then. In the book Chaucer says, There was a Summoner with us in the place who had a fire red cherubinnish face (Chaucer line 642). Not only that but he drinks and when he does , he doesn t care what is going on around him, According to the text it says, And drinking strong wine till all was hazy , then he would shout and jabber as if he s crazy (Chaucer line 653). • 9. The And Managing Student Behavior Essay PBIS and Managing Student Behavior Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) is a multi tier strategy based on student outcome as opposed to a set curriculum. In a classroom it is based on 6 essential practices, but the strategies can, and should be implemented school wide for maximum benefit. The following will offer some history on PBIS, a breakdown of the 6 essential classroom practices, and a brief description of what a three tier strategy would encompass. History Positive Behavior Interventions and Strategies (PBIS) was developed in the 1980 s in response to a need for a more effective management of students with Behavior Disorders (BD) behaviors (Sugai Simonsen, 2012). Research done at the University of Oregon found that emphasis should be placed on behavior prevention, and social skill instruction in a school wide system (Sugai Simonsen, 2012). In 1997 with the revision of the Individuals with Disabilities Act (IDEA) a grant was included to establish a National Center on Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports. The national center was established with the goal of providing technical assistance to schools for the support of students with BD (Sugai Simonsen, 2012). PBIS has its roots in intervention for students with BD, but a shift has taken place to PBIS being a school wide behavioral support. PBIS is now defined as evidence based interventions to achieve academically and behaviorally important outcomes for all students (Sugai Simonsen, 2012). ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

His power and legend have influenced many modern aspects as well as having a direct effect on various components of British history. Yet, there is not definitive proof as to whether or not this man was real. King Arthurs story has been told for years upon years and is considered to be on the of the most heroic legends of all time, but the question still remains: Is King Arthur real? King Arthur s legend is based off of a true King that was able to defend Britain from a Saxon invasion. History says that this King was extremely heroic and brave. It is this great King that the legend comes from. The first time King Arthur s name is mentioned is in the writings of a Welsh historian, Nennius. He often references to a powerful King named Arthur, who helped the Britain in twelve specific and real battles. The only problem with this is that it is impossible for one man to have fought in all said battles. These battles took place all over the country of Britain and over the course of around a hundred years. It is physically impossible for one man to have fought in all twelve battles. Ignoring the facts, various Welsh painters decided to paint the famed King Arthur that Nennius spoke so highly of. Their creation of King Arthur led to the spread of the mighty King s fame. Meaning, if something is not the strongest, smartest, and most adoptable of its kind it will surely die. This mindset was soon established by the main character White Fang. From the start he was the strongest of all the wolf cubs, being the only cub to survive the famine that plagued his family. White Fang s ability to adapt to his different environments is also a key point concerning to the theme of life. • 16. King Henry V Character Analysis Throughout history, it has been difficult to have a dynastic succession produce good leaders. However, in William Shakespeare s Henry V, King Henry V is acclaimed as the dynastic successor to England. Henry has a valid claim to the French throne, but France already has a successor, the Dauphin. With some convincing and financing from the clergy, Henry decides to fight for his place as the French heir. In the Battle of Agincourt, Henry demonstrates strong leadership at a young age. As previously explained in Act I, Henry s father died when he was young, and Henry V gained a new demeanor and changed his wild ways into proper ethics for royalty. Henry s personality change leads to his noble leadership, and he seems to lead by example and in words even as a young king. King Henry s conduct causes him to be a just ruler. King Henry s morality, impartiality, and authority cause him to be a just ruler. King Henry s morality causes him to be a just ruler. When Henry rises to the throne, he sheds his reckless personality as much as possible, and he even distances himself from an old friend, John Falstaff. King Henry becomes a morally and mentally sound king for England. Henry gains important morals for a ruler such as humility, grace, piety, and wisdom even at his young age. Henry shows a glimpse of his humility when he addresses the soldiers before the siege of Harfleur to inspire them for battle. Henry says that they all must go Once more unto the breach, dear friends, once / more (3.1.1 2). By addressing the soldiers as dear friends, Henry acknowledges them as equals and even goes as far as saying that they are his comrades. In the next stanzas Eliot continues to develop J. Alfred Prufrock s character. I have measured out my life with coffee spoons; (l. 51). To imagine a life as a string of coffee cups is a very sad picture. This also tells us that Prufrock s life has been a boring one. The following stanza utilizes some potent metaphors to describe Prufrock s thoughts. The eyes that fix you in a formulated phrase (l. 56). The diction T. S. Eliot uses here is very effective. Eliot does not simply state that the women have a preconceived notion of Prufrock. A formulated phrase is a strong way to say that the women look at him and automatically stereotype him. And when I am formulated, sprawling on a pin, / When I am pinned and wriggling on the wall, (l. 57 58). Eliot uses another strong metaphor here. These lines in the poem create the image of Prufrock struggling while pinned to the wall like bug. • 31. Observing Double Displacement Reactions Observing Double Displacement Reactions Purpose: The purpose of the lab is to determine and observe the different double displacement reactions that occur when certain reactants are mixed. Double displacement reactions will be classified with the use of indicators. Introduction: Chemical reactions occur very often in people s everyday lives. There are six main types of reaction. These include decomposition reactions, synthesis reactions, single displacement reactions, double displacement reactions, combustion reactions, and nuclear reactions. Both single and double displacement reactions can be broken down into more specific reactions. Single displacement reactions can be classified as metal displacement, which is cation; and halogen displacement, which is anion. Double displacement reactions will break into three different situations: formation of a gas, formation of a solid (precipitate), and neutralization. The lab is focused on the observation of double displacement reactions, as opposed to the other five types. Double displacement reaction consists of two compounds, both with anions and cations, reacting with each other. During the reaction, the positive cations of each compound switch places with each other, creating two completely new compounds. Double displacement reactions generally occur when both of the reactants are in aqueous form, or in other words, dissolved in water. When determining the states of the products in a double displacement reaction, it ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

A person with an ethical mind asks herself, What kind of a person, worker, and citizen do I want to be? I believe I definitely have an ethical mind, ever since I was child I always wondered what kind of overall person I would be and how that would affect others and my character. A coaching approach is a high directive high supportive style. The director, John Ford, believed that hatred of Native Americans was wrong, but the message in this scene of the film contradicts his beliefs. However this does not mean John Ford was racist, it simply shows the ideas that were common in society in the time this film was made. John Ford used the characters Ethan and the US Cavarly officers to embody the ideas of society in the 1950 s. Later in the film, the prejudice against Native Americans reduces in Ethan s character. At the time of this scene, he hates Native Americans with no exceptions. However near the end of the movie he becomes more tolerant of Native Americans, for example when he brought Debby home safely instead of killing her. As killing Debby would ve put Ethan into bad light, the decision of him not killing her brings an anti racism message, which was something that John Ford believed in. This helps highlight change of character in Ethan. It shows that people should look past race and skin colour when making decisions about and loving people. In comparison to the racist message in ... The indentation found on the bean shaped part of the kidney is called the hilum, this is where the renal artery enters the kidney and where both the renal vein and ureter exit. Of all the nations that came to the Americas, the Spanish were by far the most cruel and power hungry of them all. On the polar opposite of the spectrum were the French. While the Spanish settled the southern Americas and treated the Indians poorly, the French settled the northernmost parts of America, but treated the natives with respect and honor. Instead of demanding things and forcing the Indians to give them precious goods, the French traded with the natives and built an alliance with them. Many Indians converted to Christianity because the religion was not being forced upon them, unlike the Spanish and natives in the south. This type of alliance could be the basis of a strong bond between the Indians and new settlers, but this bond is, again, broken when the English arrive to the east coast of the native s land. The allied leaders (Harry S Truman, Winston Churchill and Stalin) also stated that they hoped that Japan would agree to surrender unconditionally and prevent devastation of the Japanese homeland and that they patiently awaited Japan s answer. This was known as the Potsdam Declaration. The Japanese Premier at that time, Kantaro Suzuki answered using the Japanese word mokusatsu , which is derived from the word for silence . Yet, this word had a second meaning which also means not worthy of comment .
