When taking a look deep into an organization s different departmental operation, it becomes clear how
to plan to protect the most data and also which areas is more operation critical. While preventing
interruption is the most important aspect of this plan, no one can predict the weather or any other
attack. As part of the steps to implement the business continuity plan, Sunshine Machine Works will
need to document a risk management plan, business impact analysis, incident response plan, plan
activation, incident response team, communications, contact list and recovery plan section. Once all
has been documented, the organization will need to test, evaluate and update schedule.
Risk Management Plan
The risk management plan defines what activities within the organization are critical to operations.
During this stage of planning, Wilma Stone, Margie Nelson, Gary Thomas and other Sunshine
Machine Works Management personnel will need to determine how much of a risk the organization is
exposed to and create a plan to minimize the amount of damage the exposure could have. Other stages
of the risk management planning process will include the likeliness of the risk happening, what the
consequences will be, and which risk are considered priority.
Determining the level of risk should be broken down into 4 categories: low, medium, high or very
high. A consequences scale should also be created. Different levels of risk bring on different level of
consequences.

Failure And Success Of Failure
Failure Produces Success
Have you ever failed in your life just once? Did that effect you in the sense of which you should being
in the right track? The majority of people think that failure is the indication to improperly way of
doing the things. Nevertheless, without failure taking place in our life, people were not getting to the
evolution and modern science which facilitated human life in all aspects. Failure often makes
unpleasant journey or spirit to the people but, it helps in the way to change and create magnificent
success that would never thought about. Although that people have ideas and ambition to be

tool to achieve new ideas for new innovation and invention. Failure generates new ideas that would
benefit the person in many ways. New ideas are always useful for us to make our life better and
comfortable. According to the article to err is wrong Charles Kettering exemplifies the spirit of
working through erroneous assumption to good ideas (Oech). He explains that Kettering had an idea
to solve the engine knock by modifying the gasoline. Kettering thought that if he put red dye in the
gasoline would help to solve the issue of the engine. The red dye was not available at his workshop at
that time, so he used iodine instead. The iodine worked and solved the problem of the engine rather
than using the red dye. Failure took place for

Article Review of Menu Girls by Denise Chavez Essay
Article Review of Menu Girls by Denise Chavez
While reading through The Last of the Menu Girls by Denise Chavez, the complexity of the novel
made itself evident. There are many different levels to Chavez s novel. The article by Rowena Rivera
brought many of those hidden themes and ideas to the surface. The article gives the reader a quick
overview of Denise Chavez as an author. Rivera then goes into many of the hidden themes and ideas
in the novel, such as the importance of memories. She also goes on to discuss things like the constant
interlocking of Spanish and English.
Rivera begins her paper by simply giving the reader a list of many of the works Denise Chavez has
written during her literary career. It is through this list ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There is one particular statement that Rivera makes that was interesting, which is that memories are
represented in Rocio s home by these forgotten objects, these fragments of past lives (7). She also
brings up that the past in Shooting Stars is best described as a memory that is constantly changing.
Rocio is writing about Diana and Eloisa as she sees them as an adult instead of the insecure girl she
once was. Rivera also brings up the importance of girls like Eloisa and Diana. One of the first things
Rivera brings up the girls importance to Rocio. To Rocio, Eloisa and Diana were the embodiment of
womanhood. They stood for everything that Rocio desired to be. They were beautiful, confident, and
mysterious. Rivera also brings up the fact that even the girls names were created to exemplify beauty.
For example, Eloisa is compared to the goddess Venus. Diana is named for the goddess of the moon.
The names were created on purpose to show the girls beauty and mystery. In the end, though, Rivera
states that Chavez twists the plot around by showing Diana when she gets older. Diana is no longer
this beautiful goddess. She is, at the end, a wrinkled, moustached, old maid. In the end, Rocio no
longer sees these girls as romantic figures to be adored, but as real women with tragic lives. Another
important point that Rivera brings up is Chavez s unique literary style of meshing together the English

Critical Analysis Of The Baddest Dog In Harlem
English essay The Baddest Dog in Harlem
In this assignment an analyze and a interpret of the short story called the Baddest Dog in Harlem is
written . The analyze will focus on the settings and the tone of the voice. The young adult novel is
written by Walter Dean Myers, an African American.
The narrator in the text do we not get much information about, but it is likely that he is black since he
lives in Harlem. His friends in the text are Mr. Lynch Wille, and Pedro. In the beginning of the text, it
starts with in medias res with the narrator and his friends sitting and discussing who the best fighter is,
but all of a sudden a police car shows up in front of them because they got a tip about a man carrying
an automatic weapon. A policeman asks the characters in for how long they have been sitting and
Pedro Answers two hours maybe three . They seem to be unemployed since they can spend hours
talking who the best fighter is.
The setting is Harlem. Harlem is in northern Manhattan New York. It is known as a major African
American cultural, business and residential center. From 1920 2008, most of the populations have
been African Americans . Harlem is known as one of the worst areas for crime in New York and it also
has the biggest crime rate in Manhattan. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Even though the story is written correctly with prober English, when we hear the thoughts of the
narrator, slang is used much on quotes when African Americans are talking. An example is when the
narrator says What they mean about some automatic weapons . Another example is also when Pedro
called out to an officer and says We got to get away from fore we get sot up . The two examples on the
quotes are clearly grammatically wrong, but at the same time they can also give a picture on how
people in Harlem talks. When it comes to language the youth in Harlem, especially talks differently
than other and the author of the novel also wanted his story to sound

Income Inequality In Canada
Most of us Canadians like to think of ourselves as a better version of our American
neighbours.Whether it be health care or ethics in politics .However, with the new trend and of course a
Harper government .We are mimicking our American cousins. This essay will highlight the problem of
inequality and its ability to change the governance of our country.Through facts and statistics, this
essay will argue that income inequality is a serious problem. However,Canada does have other issues
such as inequality faced by women and aboriginal people.Income inequality seems to the root cause of
other issues. The essay will first prove the existence of a growing inequality in Canada. The basis of the
argument will lie in the drastic changes that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Whether it is in Canada as a whole or within a city, the top 1 percent enjoy a sought of immunity to
economic slumps.According to CCPA ,over the course of 30 years from 1982 2010 the richest 1
percent enjoyed an income increase of 71 percent. The richest 1 percent of Canadians made 15 times
more than the average Canadian income(CCPA) . Income inequality as earlier stated bring about
health inequalities within the spectrum of a country s populations. However, such income inequalities
and wealth inequalities are all signs of an existing class inequality. Chrystia Freeland speaks of the
class that makes up one percent of the top one percent i.e. 0.01 percent, the super rich or ultra elites as
plutocrats. The amount of wealth concentrated in hands of such a small percentage is a worrying
situation. It is common human nature to try and keep what one has achieved. But with this much at
stake, is it petty to think of the lengths this minority will go to maintain their status (Freeland). It is to
no doubt that that members of this group also influence government policy. Most political parties need
huge financial support in order to sustain their campaigns. With large sums of wealth that corporations
possess, they invest in political party campaigns. The irony lies in the fact that they are called

Social Media And The Communication Style Of The Millennials
According to Angelo Young in How social media is dumbing down our communication , the large
number of people who use the internet in generation X only had one or two accounts, texting was
boring and expensive, and mobile phone is designed only to call other people. Technology develops
rapidly on social media, which changes the communication style of the Millennials, the group of
people born at the beginning of the 21st century and in the 20th century. Communication is a process
of sharing not only information and ideas but also meanings and feelings. However, social media is
changing the way people communicate with each other. Social media have made differences in the
communication style of the Millennials in contrast to the previous generation in the context of the
communication form and the way people share their feelings. Social media has brought differences
with the communication form of the millennials compared with the previous generation. The previous
generation used to talk to others face to face before the invention of social media. They didn t have
lots of Internet friends compared to the Millennials, so they spent most of the time talking to their
family members. My mother is a member of the previous generation. She told me that she and her
friends who lived on the same street would meet once a week sharing stories and work experiences.
My mother concluded her time was fun and gratifying. As Kate Gale expressed in Life before email

Comparing Merchant’sThe Death of Nature and Thomas’ Man...
Comparing Merchant sThe Death of Nature and Thomas Man and the Natural World
The works of Carolyn Merchant and Keith Thomas pertain to the same subject matter and even to the
same time period. Nevertheless, in comparing their interpretations of the evidence and the presentation
of their arguments concerning the history of mankind s relationship with nature in Tudor and Stuart
England through the Scientific and Industrial Revolutions, we find that they are quite different.
Merchant presents us with a rather one sided, retrospective attack on science as the root of all
environmental evil, while Thomas offers a relatively neutral, prospective look at how the people of
this time reacted to the changing views of nature and what, exactly, ... Show more content on

She assimilates Bacon s ideas about science and nature into her argument saying, The new man of
science must not think that the inquisition of nature is in any part interdicted or forbidden. Nature
must be bound into service and made a slave, put in constraint and molded by the mechanical arts
(169).
This doctrine of nature as an inert, unfeeling machine that Bacon and his contemporaries advocate so
adamantly seems to have changed forever the belief in organicism, or, that all living beings are an
equal part of nature. The natural magician [the organicist] saw himself as operating within the organic
order of nature he was a manipulator of parts within that system, bringing down the heavenly powers
to the earthly shrine (169). In Merchant s opinion, the abandonment of this organic view of nature in
favor of Bacon s mechanical view led to the death of the world soul and the removal of nature s spirits
which helped to support increasing environmental destruction by removing any scruples that might be
associated with the view that nature was a living organism (227). With this throwing off of the moral
yoke, Bacon and his fellow man were free to do with nature what they would.
Keith Thomas, however, has a very different opinion of science and the role it played in the natural
world in the early modern period. The concept of change is integral to his book, Man and the Natural
World. While Merchant believes that science was the downfall of

Misconceptions Of Grief Essay
3 Dangerous Misconceptions About the Phases of Grief
Everyone reacts and processes events in life differently. For example, to miss the train while you are
leaving for a weekend getaway could make some people go into a panic and it could even ruin their
entire weekend by having this rough start. While the next person might look at it as a minor setback
that just makes the trip more interesting.
Another example could be a breakup or divorce from a long term significant other. While one person
may be excited about starting a new chapter in life, another may find it hard to embrace their sense of
identity without the other person in their life any more.
Or the loss of a job, one person may simply move on looking for the next job trusting fate has
something else in store, while another may shut down and turn to drugs or alcohol for comfort as they
cannot see themselves in a different kind of role. The human ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Misconception #1: You are Done Grieving Once You Complete all the Phases
KJSomehow the idea spawned from the five phases of grief that by working through this process, you
will at some point be done grieving. That s it. You re healed. You will no longer experience the
emotions of grief.
Wrong. Nothing can ever replace that loved one. Throughout life, there will be forever moments that
bring back the stages of grief that will come and go.
A thought of your loved one could trigger emotions that feel like depression.
Just thinking about how different your life is after their death may still seem unreal, as it did during
the initial shock stage.
Remembering how their life was at the very end while they were dying can trigger thoughts of what
you could have done differently, or what you would give to have them back, which is consistent with

Samuel Coleridge Contributions
Samuel Taylor Coleridge Samuel Taylor Coleridge was born October 21, 1772, Ottery St. Mary,
United Kingdom and was the tenth child of John Coleridge, a vicar and schoolmaster, and Ann
Bowden Coleridge, which was John s second wife. As a child, he was quite the opposite of the other
young boys because while they were outside horse playing he was in the house reading and usually
kept to himself. When Samuel was ten years old, his father died and was sent to Christ s Hospital, a
boarding school in London where he found a friend in fellow student Charles Lamb. Later, he was
awarded a scholarship to Jesus College, Cambridge, which he attended from 1791 until 1794, showing
a promising gift in writing and a great conversationalist. In the year 1794, which was right before he
completed his degree, Coleridge went on a tour of Oxford where he ended up meeting poet Robert
Southey and changing his way of life. Adopting the revolutionary concepts of liberty and equality for
all individuals, and they were also inspired by what happened during the French Revolution, Samuel
Coleridge and Robert Southey worked together on The Fall of Robespierre. As an outgrowth of their
shared beliefs, they developed a plan for a pantisocracy , which was a system of government where all
are ruled equally, an egalitarian and self sufficient agricultural system to be built in Pennsylvania. In

The Chinese Room Thought Experiment Analysis
John Searle s thought experiment in paper Minds, brains and programs from 1980 is one of the most
recognisable and broadly accredited critiques of artificial intelligence (AI) an idea that computers are
(or some day will be) able to think. Researchers in AI field often make a claim that our mental activity
can be compared to a computer following a program. In such a view human brains do nothing more
but simply process information on a massive scale. The most important question that Searle wants to
discuss in his paper is: What psychological and philosophical significance should we attach to recent
efforts at computer simulations of human cognitive capacities? (p. 417) In order to tackle this idea he

Moral Relativism and Problems Associated With this Philosophy
Moral relativists believe that no one has the right to judge another individuals choice, decisions, or
lifestyle because however they choose to live is right for them. In addition everyone has the right to
their own moral beliefs and to impose those beliefs on another individual is wrong. At first glance
moral relativism may appear ideal in allowing for individual freedom. After all why shouldn t each
individual be entitled to their own idea of moral values and why should others force their beliefs on
anyone else. American philosopher and essayist, Ralph Waldo Emerson (1803 1882), tells us, what is
right is only what the individual thinks is right. There is no higher court of appeals, no higher,

After all their actions, they believe are right and you cannot tell them they were wrong. In turn, we can
imagine for a minute that your personal morals and values contain, eye for eye from the Bible book of
Exodus 21:24. Therefore you can morally seek this mugger out and rightfully injure him and steal his
belongings. While carrying out your right to inflict the same damage on your attacker, their young
child is watching and feels that what you are doing is wrong. The child in turn applies their moral
values to the situation and approaches you with a gun because they feel it is morally correct to use
whatever means necessary to protect their home and family. This chain reaction of individuals
applying their moral values to situations that arise is a continual and expanding predicament. How do
you stop a chain reaction when everyone involved is right in their own mind? According to moral
relativity every individual is the source of their own moral authority....and who has the right to tell any
other individual that he is wrong.......according to that other individual s highest authority (his self),
his behavior is right and morally just.
Beyond injuries inflicted to another person, moral relativism is even more absurd in less obvious
dilemmas. The story found on page 118 of American Vision and Values describes a moral relativist
parent who is raising her child without judgment. In

Consequently, this paper suggests one for WFLS. The technology mission statement should also be

Dwight D. Eisenhower s Leadership During World War II
This world of ours . . . must avoid becoming a community of dreadful fear and hate, and be, instead, a
proud confederation of mutual trust and respect ( Dwight D. Eisenhower ). As a military leader during
World War II, Dwight D. Eisenhower understood the importance of mutual trust and respect which
allowed him to thrive as a leader. Consequently, Eisenhower was the most influential leader: he helped
make decisions in Washington during the beginning of the war, he helped plan invasions on multiple

possessed a high understanding of organization . . . This principle built for him high admiration and

and loyalty to get people to follow them. Eisenhower was one of few who had both qualities. This
allowed him to gain the trust of thousands. Having people who followed his command openly,
willingly, and easily allowed Eisenhower to influence multiple decisions. After the decisions were
made, the trust, loyalty, and respect Eisenhower had coming from those who were affected by the
decisions allowed Eisenhower to remain influential with the people continually following his
commands. For example, when Eisenhower ordered a soldier to hold a position, the soldier would not
willingly surrender unlike some soldiers during the war. He also understood what was happening and
the fallout certain decisions could cause in a way that gave him the ability to make calls that boosted
the Allies. With every good call he made came the opportunity to make another decision. Eisenhower

Oodgeroo Noonuccal an Australian aboriginal poet and fighter of Aboriginal rights
In my essay I will present an Australian poet from the 20th century who after having discovered her

Oodgeroo Noonuccal was born as Kathleen Jean Mary Ruska on 3 November 1920 on North
Stradbroke Island in South East Queensland. Kath was a descendant of the Noonuccal people of
Minjerribah. Her totem was Kabool the carpet snake, who could not be eaten by his people. She talks
about this in her poem Ballad of the Totems. The young Kath was strongly influenced by her parents.
Her mother, Lucy McCulloch was one of the stolen generation . At the mission school she was not

Political corruption in Cuba can mainly be blamed on the drug trade in and out of Cuba. The drug

Beach Volleyball vs. Indoor Volleyball

Illustration/Compare Contrast
Indoor and Beach Volleyball have gained immense popularity over the years. They re both very fun
sports that anyone at any age can enjoy. Although most people would think both sports are the same,
the truth is they are very different. The environment, rules of play and the collegiate opportunities that
many players have are a few of the main components that separate these sports. Indoor volleyball was
invented in Holyoke Massachusetts by William G. Morgan on February 9, 1895. Originally, the sport
was known as Mintonette until it was changed a year later to volleyball which it is still known as

Current advances in biotechnology through massively parallel sequencing, or Next Generation

Each clinic has set several standards and cut off ranges in order to reduce the rate of false positive that
is dependent on the age of the pregnant mother and the ranges set by the clinic itself (De Jong, A.,
Dondorp, W. J., et.al., 2010). The age of a pregnant woman can cause high risk scenarios and
increases the chance of fetal abnormalities. A study conducted by Dr. C. Lewis and associates (2014)
have shown that most pregnant women seeking NIPT were typically older, predominately white, and
well educated. Furthermore, with the utilization of NIPT worldwide, there are various factors
contributing towards higher aneuploidy rates, especially in lower middle class communities, urban
areas, and the slums.
Dr. C. Lewis and associates (2014) produced statistics that have found that there are typically higher
rates of aneuploidy in rural and urban areas because women tend to marry or conceive children at age
35 and older. Likewise, due to high consanguineous marriage rates in many parts of the Middle East,
there is a higher incident and increased rate of delivering a child with birth defects or a genetic
disorder (Allyse, M., Minear, M., et. al, 2015). These studies have supported that although the number
of cases associated with children born with a genetic disorder is unknown, there is a high correlation
associated with increased age of conception of the mother with some growing evidence of high
paternal age as well, thus leading to high termination

War On Drugs As A Social Problem
The problem I want to explore is how the War on Drugs has become a social problem. This is a social
problem because it has created an overpopulated prison system disproportionately filled with people
of color and the poor. The current rate of illegal drug use among African Americans and Whites is
almost the same while a little less among Latinos (7.4 percent, 7.2 percent, and 6.4 percent,
respectively) (Moore, L. D., and Elkavich, A., 2008). But because white people make up a larger
portion of the U.S. population, the number of white drug users is much greater than that of drug users
of color. Data from 1998 tells us that Whites made up 72 percent of all illegal drug users while African
Americans made up 15 percent of illegal drug users (Moore

Case Study On Knee Replacement
1. My mother has knee pain for many years and recently it has worsened. She has some deformity
around the knees and can barely walk more than 10 15 minutes. What should be done?
Recent worsening of chronic knee pain and deformity probably indicates that knee arthritis has
reached advanced stage i.e. the protective lining of the joint is nearly completely worn out. At this
stage, pain medication often doesn t help much. Rather, one may suffer from dangerous side effects of
prolonged pain medication therapy on heart, liver, kidney, stomach and intestines. It is recommended
that one should consult a joint specialist and get certain X rays. If it is advanced arthritis, then one
should consider knee replacement to get rid of the problem.
2. What do you mean by knee replacement?
It is a surgical procedure in which the damaged or worn out cartilage lining of the joint is removed and
replaced with an artificial implant thus removing the cause of pain. The soft tissue tension around the

The only thing we can do is to make sure that we are not transporting quagga mussels. Boat owners
need to clean, drain, and dry their boats or have them professionally decontaminated. During the
summer, self cleaned boats need to dry for 7 days before entering another body of water. The fall and
spring recommendation is 18 days, and 30 days in the winters (or 3 days in below freezing

has boat inspection stations set up at almost every major road entering into the state. Laws require that
boaters must stop at one of these stations on their way to recreational waters. Utah, in conjunction

that is the same amount the United States government spends on presidential vacations alone! Since

It was one said by Napoleon Hill that, Strength and growth come only through continuous effort and
struggle. Truly, haven I not experience the many challenges that the year of 2015 had for me, I would
probably not have been allowed do growth in areas that I least expected. One particularly challenge
that arose in 2015, has been the most emotionally wounded, and yet difficult to embraced; and
truthfully I have continuously been in effort to overcome. My strong Hispanic accent is something that
I inevitably could not erase however, the various comments that come with my way of verbally
expressing has often made me feel insignificant, and incompetent at times. Conversely, with the help
of one of my professor at Biola University, I have come to learned that ascents should not diminish
our unique capabilities that we have within ourselves. Moreover, I have gained an aspect of being
open minded, and surrounded myself in activities that involved expressing verbally. Truthfully, this
particularly challenge made me fruitful personally and professionally. Personally, I have been able to
seek areas of improvement and have taken the harsh remarks as a source of motivation to strive to
become both a better person and a better scholar. As to the professional aspect, I have learned that
often in the professional world individuals may not be of accordance with a certain idea or, they might
even seek to discourage ones ideas, but one should not see their comments as a discouragement,

Social Class And Gender Roles
How are the tensions between social classes and/or genders dramatised in Modern European Drama?
Social class and gender roles, were and still are today, a key element in the progression of theatre.
Dada and Futurism, as movements in theatre took place at the time of the social class war, the
prejudice against women and their rights and the struggle to create an equal society. The two
movements, of avant garde style contained three stage in which they were able to create;
analysis...engagement...forward vision (Berghaus, 2005). Their method to create art and theatre was
impelled on by their desire to attack the dominant ideology of bourgeois society (Berghaus, 2005)
some claim that the word was discovered by opening a dictionary at random (Sawelson Gorse, 1998)
Dada was a crusade in order to win back the promise land of creativity (Berghaus, 2005). Dada, as a
movement, did not only take form of inspiring art, but it was a protest, to test the bourgeois society.
Dada, as movement has a rampant and wild allure about it. The way in which it was approached and is
approached today is similar in a sense of strength and power. In his manifesto Tzara is clear that dada
was born of a need of independence (Tzara, 1918), this does not only imply that there was no
independence in terms of art, but also that Constructivism needed to be moved forward. In Tristen
Tzara s Dadaist Manifesto he does not only have a fighting attitude toward Dada, but also has resilient

However the only threat to stopping the Japanese from conquering them was the U.S. Navy. In order
for this to happen Japan bombed the Huge Naval base at Pearl Harbor in Hawaii. The surprise attack

Americans during WWII was not justified because it was done because of their race, it violated their
individual rights, and it did not help the war effort.
The U.S. issued Executive Order 9066 because of fear and anger towards the Japanese. American

Cultural Destruction Of Slavery In The Middle East And Africa

devastating consequences were still seen across the world, particularly in the Middle East and Africa.
Hidden in the shadows of history is a dark reality that resulted from advancements made by man; a

with the blind justification for cultural destruction, using internal strife of developing nations as a

regulated by the National Credit Code (NCC), which is a schedule to the NCCP Act. Loans and leases
will be regulated under the NCCP Act if, amongst other things, it is provided or is intended to be

Salvador Dali and Science Essay
Within the realm of Surrealism, more specifically the surrealist group, they contain works that are
overly subjective and involve definite notions to scientific observation of nature, as well as the
interpretations of dreams. Encapsulating the former ideas of Albert Einstein, there is a close
resemblance to theories that are at the very base of quantum mechanics. Upon further inspection,
Salvador Dali s artistic imagery and methodology, as well as André Breton s, could be seen as
expressions of lucid subconsciousness. For example, André Breton emphasized the necessity
understanding physics as a surrealist, in order to interpret or distort reality . Within Breton s Break of
Day he states, Does every man of today, eager to conform to the ... Show more content on

Dali hides this fact by stating that an individual s consciousness to be more important than the reality
of external time or experiences.
Surrealism would be the perfect language to describe the real world discovered by Einstein. This can
be confirmed upon further inspection, as Dali goes on to say in The Sanitary Goat that: Physics in this
case is the kind that once can believe in that one can believe or interpret, even when it forms part of
the delirium; the physics which must create with new geometry of thought will be precisely...the
delirium of paranoiac interpretation . Though his association of relativity and paranoia here is a highly
subjective suggestion. In the late 1930 s Dali conceptualizes a method he called critical paranoia .
Unbeknownst at the time, this methodology would eventually lead to his expulsion from the surrealist
group. Dali described critical paranoia as a spontaneous method of irrational knowledge based on
systematic objectification and fantasizing interpretations. The goals was to allow his viewers to
understand his works as delusional, but be set in a somewhat agreeable clarity that made them seem
realistic; at the same time place them in his delirium mind state or a, systematic confusion and
contribution to the complete discrediting of the world of reality.
Back in 1986, Henri Bergson theorized the subject of dual time: objective time, which is determinate
and measurable and subjective time formed on the

Character Analysis Of Gerta In A Night Divided
In the beginning of the book A Night Divided, Gerta was physically described as a twelve year old girl
with blond hair. She was also described as having round eyes, with a warm brown tone. Her body was
athletic and fit although, by the end of the book she had become really skinny almost as if she had
been starving.
Gerta was always described as outspoken, passionate, and a risk taker. For example, in the book when
Gerta and her brother were almost done with the tunnel, the tunnel began to collapse, her brother
insisted to let it collapse however Gerta never gave up on building the tunnel. This is an example of
Gerta being a risk taker and showing determination on not giving up. Another scene from the book is
when Gerta s only best friend goes to talk to her when she is building the tunnel, but Gerta
impulsively tells her that she doesn t want to be her friend anymore because she wants to be alone and
finish the tunnel to get to her father.
Gerta s family consists of five people not including Gerta; those people are her mom, dad, two
brothers, and grandma. Her mom is named Catherina, her dad s name is Aldous Lowe, her oldest
brother is named Fritz, her younger brother s name is Dominic and her grandmother s name is Oma
Gertrude. After the Berlin Wall was created, Gerta lived only with her mom and her oldest brother
Fritz since her youngest brother and her dad were stuck in the West Berlin looking for a job. Her
grandmother lived in the countryside in East Berlin, the only time Gerta s mother went to see her was
when Oma Gertrude broke her leg and needed attention. Gerta s only friend through out the book was
Anna.
The most important thing that happened to Gerta was when she was walking home from school with
Anna and saw her dad do a dance that he would do for her every night before the berlin wall was
created. However, her dad kept repeating one part over and over again which was digging with a
shovel. After that, Anna gave her a letter from her dad with a drawing of a building that Gerta had to
find and figure out what it meant. Once she found the building she started looking around and found
and underground room and figured out what her father wanted her to do, he wanted her to dig a tunnel
to west

Rocio is writing about Diana and Eloisa as she sees them as an adult instead of the insecure girl she once was. Rivera also brings up the importance of girls like Eloisa and Diana. One of the first things Rivera brings up the girls importance to Rocio. To Rocio, Eloisa and Diana were the embodiment of womanhood. They stood for everything that Rocio desired to be. They were beautiful, confident, and mysterious. Rivera also brings up the fact that even the girls names were created to exemplify beauty. For example, Eloisa is compared to the goddess Venus. Diana is named for the goddess of the moon. The names were created on purpose to show the girls beauty and mystery. In the end, though, Rivera states that Chavez twists the plot around by showing Diana when she gets older. Diana is no longer this beautiful goddess. She is, at the end, a wrinkled, moustached, old maid. In the end, Rocio no longer sees these girls as romantic figures to be adored, but as real women with tragic lives. Nature must be bound into service and made a slave, put in constraint and molded by the mechanical arts (169). This doctrine of nature as an inert, unfeeling machine that Bacon and his contemporaries advocate so adamantly seems to have changed forever the belief in organicism, or, that all living beings are an equal part of nature. The natural magician [the organicist] saw himself as operating within the organic order of nature he was a manipulator of parts within that system, bringing down the heavenly powers to the earthly shrine (169). In Merchant s opinion, the abandonment of this organic view of nature in favor of Bacon s mechanical view led to the death of the world soul and the removal of nature s spirits which helped to support increasing environmental destruction by removing any scruples that might be associated with the view that nature was a living organism (227). With this throwing off of the moral yoke, Bacon and his fellow man were free to do with nature what they would. Keith Thomas, however, has a very different opinion of science and the role it played in the natural world in the early modern period. Each clinic has set several standards and cut off ranges in order to reduce the rate of false positive that is dependent on the age of the pregnant mother and the ranges set by the clinic itself (De Jong, A., Dondorp, W. Lewis and associates (2014) have shown that most pregnant women seeking NIPT were typically older, predominately white, and well educated. Furthermore, with the utilization of NIPT worldwide, there are various factors contributing towards higher aneuploidy rates, especially in lower middle class communities, urban areas, and the slums. Dr. C. Lewis and associates (2014) produced statistics that have found that there are typically higher rates of aneuploidy in rural and urban areas because women tend to marry or conceive children at age 35 and older. Likewise, due to high consanguineous marriage rates in many parts of the Middle East, there is a higher incident and increased rate of delivering a child with birth defects or a genetic disorder (Allyse, M., Minear, M., et. al, 2015).
