Comparing Rita Dove s Poetry And Her Life
By examining Rita Dove s awards, poems, and her life, it is clear that she is one of the most
influential people alive. Growing up in a time era where black and women were discriminated
against, she fought for those who didn t have a voice. Through her work, she attempts to answer
those unanswerable questions and about personal destiny and distilling the experiences of
oppressed groups; women, blacks and working class citizens. Rita Dove was born in Akron,
Ohio, to Ray Dove, the first African America chemist to work in the U.S. the industry, and Elvira
Hord, who achieved honors in high school and would later share her passion for reading with her
daughter. In 1970, Rita graduated from Buchtel High School as Presidential Scholar. Later, Dove

Themes of Heart to Heart are brighter and more optimistic. She speaks on the subjects of life,
hope, and opportunity. Rita is communicating that no heart is empty and that people can t really
feel pain or suffering, it s all an illusion. The imagery of nature is used to describe flirting, she
incorporates an orange, peeled and quartered, as a visual for two people who have a strong
attraction towards each other. While Heart to Heart is more on the positive side and more
uplifting, Parsley is more pessimistic. Through its themes, violence, wealth, power and hate. Rita
reminds us that languages and ideology can combine to produce political violence. This poem gets
at the fact that it s about the massacre without there being any explicit violence. Rita manages to
convey an appropriate amount of violence. Money is also never explicitly mentioned, it is implied
that with money comes power. Dove shows hate by implying that Trujillo s hatred caused the lives

The Objectification of Women in “on the Road” a Feminist...
Michael Prather

Essay #2
The Objectification of Women in On the Road A Feminist Criticism In On the Road there is an
ever present objectification of women. As a result, the woman loses her human qualities and can be
compared to an inanimate object. There are several ways in which this objectification takes form in
the novel. It is achieved through the act of gazing at women. The woman can also be used as a
means to achieve something else, in this case sensual pleasure. Since the culture described in the
novel is highly hedonistic, pleasure in terms of sex is crucial to Sal and his friends. Treating
women as objects also implies to me that they are replaceable in the same way as items are
obtained, used, disposed of and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Moreover, when he describes her breasts as straight and true it is implied that she looks the way a
beautiful woman should. Likewise, his second girlfriend Lucille is introduced in the text as a
beautiful Italian honey haired darling (On the Road 111). In the two quotations above, neither Terry
nor Lucille receives a detailed description of their inner features; their beauty and sexual
charisma seem enough. Undoubtedly, there is a recurring pattern in the narrator s
characterization of women. The male gaze in On the Road is not only a matter of
characterization and introduction of the characters in the text, but it is also a highly
characteristic feature of the story itself as a pattern of action for the male characters. In quite a
number of central events Dean and Sal are actively gazing at women in a highly objectifying
way. Dean is on a constant look out for new acquaintances, and for Sal every city brings the
possibility to see women that are exotic to him. When visiting Chicago the two friends hardly do
any usual sight seeing, but instead they search for beautiful girls all over the city. The first night
Dean exclaims as he is about to enter a bar: What a weird town wow, and that woman in that
window up there, just looking down with her big breasts hanging from her nightgown, big wide
eyes ( On The Road 224 225). Here Dean expresses an almost childish joy of exploring the local
women and their supposedly promiscuous

Chewing Gum Should Be Allowed In School Essay
What is one change that could be made to make schools better? What do you think should be
changed? In my opinion, one rule that should be changed to make our school better is give
authorization for kids to chew gum. In fact, scientist have established that chewing gum can help
enhance the student learning capability in numerous ways. Therefore, the rationale being is that
kids that chew gumshould be allowed to in school reason being it could help them stay more
focused and become enhanced students, it could also help enhance their memory, and I have heard
people in school saying that when they are chewing gumit helps them stay relaxed. However,
chewing gum should be allowed in school is on behalf of it has been scientifically proven that
chewing gum can cause students to be more focused and manufacture students become better, help
them enhance their memory, and also I have heard from people scoffed around school that when
they chew gum it helps them stay relaxed.
Kids should be able to chew gum during school reason being is that it has been scientifically proven
that chewing gum can form students to stay more focused in making them better student. On the
other hand, the principal s and teachers think gum should not be allowed because they think gum is
an interruption considering that the students would most likely be blowing bubbles and making
commotion with their bubble gum. However, if that did happen all the teachers would have to say
is everyone needs to provoke blowing bubbles and then students should stop. When the teacher
gives out, work it has been scientifically proven to help them stay more focused, so that means
chewing gum could cause the students want to be less focus on their surroundings and stay more
focused on getting their work done. Then, if they start getting their work done, that means that they
are becoming superior students.
Another, reason kids and students should be able to chew gum during school is it has also been
scientifically proven to help improve the students memory. For example, when students are studying
for a test it could help them remember what they studied about. Next, it can also help them
remember what they learned that day during school thanks to they were

German Occupation Of Poland Dbq Essay
During World War II, non Jewish Poles had to decide whether to obey the new laws in German
occupied Poland. These new laws greatly affected how people would act in German occupied
Poland. The consequences for breaking the laws were very severe and would often result in harm
to your family. But people still broke them for no other reason for the fact that the laws were

the laws passed by the state during the German occupation of Polandin many different ways this

Influence Of Modern Western Government
Their political structure has influenced modern Western government. The Roman language, Latin,
is the root of many other languages like English, Spanish, and French.
The Roman Empire (cont.)
Formation After the fall of the Qin Dynasty in 207 B.C., 18 separate political forces proclaimed
their independence, but the Han and Chu were the most powerful out of them. In 202 B.C., Liu
Bang won the Chu Han Contention and found the Han dynasty, which ruled China for the next 400
years.
Cultural Traditions Taoism, Buddhism, and Confucianism were introduced during this era.
Education became important as schools were built everywhere. Public school was started and
reserved for boys to learn new skills for free. Painting and calligraphy were now seen as forms of
art and not as ways of making signs and letters. The invention of paper made it easier for scholars
to record their ideas, thus leading to the boom in literature. Following the introduction of loom, silk
soon became an important part of the Han culture and economy

The Disruption Of A Company
The Disruption Dilemma
I was assigned the book The Disruption Dilemma for this assignment. Gans defined disruption as
what a firm faces when the choices that once drove a firm s success now become those that destroy
it future. Failing firms tend to pursue the choices and strategies that made them successful. We will
go through examples of how a few companies handled themselves in the midst of disruption, the
types of disruptions, the reasons for disruptions, some theories of disruption, managing disruption,
insuring against it, and finally the future of disruption. Let us start by comparing an old and new
disruption dilemma.
The Encyclopedia Britanna example is an example of disruption and how successful companies
continue to do ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The key reason a firm fails from disruption is new technology, the ability to imitate, and the failure
to take advantage of an opportunity like Blockbuster in 2000.
There are a couple of sources of disruption, demand side, supply side mechanisms and disruptive
innovation. The demand side where existing firms are blindsided from a new innovation and lose
customers from changing customer wants. The supply side where organizations cannot make
organizational changes necessary to compete with new entrants. Disruptive innovation follows an S
Curve where an organization may initially perform worse and then rapidly improves.
Companies need to predict the disruption effect of new technologies, but sometimes they are not
appreciated at the time of invention and are ignored. Massively Open Online Courses or MOCC is
currently changing the education field by offering free education that threatens expensive
universities. A dilemma with new technologies is that they cannot be predicted. If disruptive events
could be predicted, they would not really be disruptive, because a business then could plan for it.
To lower uncertainties of dilemmas companies need to consider whether they should invest in a
new technology, but their existing technology might be working fine for the moment. There is a
plethora of ways a firm could be disrupted, but companies do not have enough resources or
attention. Even so, sometimes firms see

The Battle of Antietam Creek
The Battle of Antietam Creek
The Battle of Antietam Creek was a very bloody and important battle in the Civil war. The battle
was fought by two different armies within the Union and the Confederacy, The Army of the
Potomac (Union) and The Army of Northern Virginia (Confederate). Antietam Creek is located
just to the east of the Potomac River in Maryland. The battle was fought on a hill just above the
west bank of Antietam Creek. The Army of the Potomac, who was on the offensive, was pushing
towards the river. The Army of Northern Virginia, who was on the defensive, was on the bank
defending themselves from what is often referred to as a sea of blue. The men who fought in the

General Robert E. Lee. This army was made up of a left wing, a right wing, a cavalry division, and
an artillery division. The left wing was led by Major Thomas J. Stonewall Jackson, who
famously died of being shot by one of his own men during the battle of Chancellorsville. The

Exxon Valdez Oil Spill
Considering the Legal Requirements
The Exxon Valdez oil spill that took place on March 24, 1989, was responsible for an enormous
amount of damage to the natural environment of Alaska. Animal life and plant life alike, were
severely harmed from this disastrous spill. Being such a high risk company, one would assume
that the legal requirements surrounding the company policy were prioritized. Due to the scope of
the disaster though, one may wonder just how strict the requirements were that governed the
operations of Exxon. Even if there were rules in place, how well were they being followed by
Exxon employees? What were the legal requirements that governed the operations of Exxon? Did
the people responsible for this disaster consider these? In the following discussion, these are
examined from a moral analysis point of view.
After a broad investigation that lead to many lawsuits and fines, it was clear that multiple factors
contributed to the Exxon disaster. The Coast Guard and the National Transportation Society were
two of several agencies that provided rules and regulations for Exxon. These agencies found
violations that Exxon committed that lead to the disaster. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Integrating A Dual Language Immersion Program
Based on the information presented by Rhodes, Ochoa, Ortiz s Assessing Culturally and
Linguistically Diverse Students a practical guide I would develop a Two Way Dual language
immersion K 12 program involving a Late Exit Transitional Bilingual Education element. I
visualize a Dual Language Immersion as program that provides education in two languages for
English speakers and non native speakers of English. In a Two Way ninety ten system or
program in which monolingual English speaking students acquire the school curriculum together
with non native speakers of English; a portion of the instructional day is taught in English and
another portion is in Spanish. In a One Way ninety ten system or model it will follow the same
model as the Two Way with the only difference being the classroom structure. Classroom
structure consists primarily of non native speakers of English. The ultimate goal of this model
aims for additive bilingualism, biliteracy, above average academic achievement in two
languages, and multiculturalism for all students in grades K 12th. The bilingual program clearly
follows the Bestever Charter Schools Transitional Model defined as: K 1st 90% Spanish and
10% English 2nd 80% Spanish and 20% English 3rd 70% Spanish and 30% English 4th 60%

Suzie s Therapeutic Relationship With Vivian
The way in which both doctors spoke to and cared for Vivian was beyond disheartening. Throughout
the film there was a tremendous lack of patient centeredness, sensitivity, and compassion behind the
doctors words and actions. The way each doctor communicated with Vivian, and then discussed
Vivian in her unconscious presence, dehumanized her and placed value only on her contribution to
research and academics. Although there were times at which you could see slight efforts were
made by the doctors to provide care and adequate descriptions, their lack of time and empathy were
much more noticeable than their altruistic intentions. Their coercion, ulterior motives, and failure to
implement bioethics throughout Vivian s care was truly repulsive. While in contrast to the doctors,
Suzie developed an appropriate patient centered relationship with Vivian. Suzie demonstrated
empathy, compassion, and utilized many therapeutic use of self techniques throughout each
interaction with Vivian. Suzie also advocated for Vivian s best interest throughout all
communications, and valued Vivian s quality of life and dignity. Having had the opportunity to

Theory Of The Dreyfus s Model Of Skill Acquisition

Situational based model o Novice to Expert is a situational based model modified from the

Advanced beginners have had some nursing experiences and able to recognize recurrent of a

Haitian revolution Essay
In 1791 revolution broke out in the French colony of Saint Domingue, later called Haiti. The
Haitian Revolution resounded in communities surrounding the Atlantic Ocean. One of the
wealthiest European outposts in the New World, the Caribbean island s western third had some
of the largest and most brutal slave plantations. Slave laborers cultivated sugar, coffee, indigo,
and cotton, and they endured horrible death rates, requiring constant infusions of slaves from
Africa. In 1789 roughly 465,000 black slaves lived in the French colony on the island, along with
fewer than 31,000 whites. In addition, there were about 23,000 free blacks and mixed race people

The war became more complicated in 1793 when the British invaded Saint Domingue. The
Spanish, who had a colony on the eastern two thirds of Hispaniola, also entered the fray by
supporting armies of escaped slaves, including a force under the command of an ex slave named
Toussaint Louverture. Pressed on all sides, commissioners from republican France, led by Leger
Felicte Sonthonax in the northern part of the colony, began to extend freedom and citizenship to
every slave in summer and autumn 1793. Inspired by this application of the rights of man, the
French National Convention abolished slavery in all French possessions on February 4, 1794.This
action transformed the conflict. Louverture abandoned the Spanish and began to fight for the
French and the freedom of his people. Over the next couple of years, Louverture consolidated
power on the island and created rigid rules that compelled ex slaves to work on plantations so as
to make the island productive again. In 1795, because of events in Europe, the Spanish signed a
peace treaty that ceded their colony on the island to the French. In 1798 Louverture negotiated a
treaty with the British, convincing them to leave the island and promising not to support any slave
rebellions in British colonies. He also sought to develop commercial relations with the United
States, even as the Quasi War (1798 1800) broke out with France, by sending Joseph Bunel to

about investing in an area rug. These rugs come in a variety of shapes, sizes and designs, which

is unfortunate at some times, but eventually they will have a bad social experience. DnD is not
used to perfect their social choices, but more to make sure they can cope with the bad choices.
When they swing at that dragon they better be know what they are getting into, and the same

Roundabout Conversations In Joseph Heller s Catch 22
After reading the first eight chapters of Catch 22 by Joseph Heller my first thought was, Wow, this
is going to be a long book. I had read a few reviews of the book online before I started and quite a
few people said that there were a lot of roundabout conversations, a few even said that it was a
funny novel. I quickly understood what they meant by roundabout conversations when I hit
chapter 3 and Yossarian and Orr had the conversation about crab apple cheeks. I can see where
some people may find this humorous but I think it adds more to the idea that the world is
ridiculous. The phrase catch 22is something I ve heard before but I never really knew what it meant
or cared to look it up. However, this time I looked it up before I read the

Essay Hedda Gabler
TITLE : People may argue that George, Eilert, and Judge Brack are responsible for Hedda s death,
but in reality it is the fault of Hedda s society.
I ve chosen this statement for several reasons. Ibsen s character, Hedda Gabler, represents the
women of the eighteenth and nineteenth century. Hedda stands the issues of self worth and the
deflated value that each woman places upon her own importance as a result of male dominance.
We can see this in the play, as we read we learn more about the character of Hedda Gabler. She is
the daughter of a General who expected a life if glamour and wealth and rebels against the boredom
of a dull, narrow existence by vindictively scheming ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Hedda is a powerful woman, who on the surface appeared to be confined by a dress, imprisoned in
man s house, and smothered by a male dominated society. Hedda was a calculating bitch who dared
(quite shrewdly) to cross over her set in stone boundaries , manipulate others, and stand back and
watch others lives be destroyed as a result. But when she is backed into a corner by the new
creative couple (George and Thea) and Judge Brack, she takes the final power into her own hand.
The irony is that the power is her late father s pistol.
In the play, we can also sense how woman felt during the times of patriarchy. Hedda is an
extraordinary and very complex character but at the same time is fairly simple to understand.
Her evil doings are somewhat erased from our minds as we justify them, we feel pity towards
Hedda because of the pitiful life she is trapped in, the distorted views on life that Hedda
possesses come to a climax toward the end and we understand a bit more about her character.
However, just as we begin to understand her actions and feel pity towards her instead of hate we
sadly discover her death at the end. How tragic is her death when it was the ultimate control of a
destiny that she so strongly desired?
The issues of greed have a stronghold in myriad literary pieces, effectively demonstrating the value
humanity places upon materialistic commodities. Money is , indeed,

Mexican Earthquake Essay
While Mexico was in the middle of an economic crisis, Mother Nature did not care about their
dyer situation. In fact, it turns out that she wanted to take out a bit of revenge on the people of
Mexico for what they had done to the world due to their oil extraction crusade. And how did she
extract her revenge onto the country of Mexico? Well, on September 19, 1985 around 7:15 in the
morning, we are demonstrated on how she decided to extract her revenge, by summoning a massive
earthquake, with a magnitude of 8.0, onto the capital of Mexico, Mexico City. This earthquake was
recorded as one Mexico s worst earthquake that they have ever experienced, and probably one of
the deadliest of all Mexican history. However, it wasn t just the earthquake that ruined Mexico,
nor did the aftershocks as well. Since Mexico was in the middle of an economic crisis and the
country had a newly elected president, Miguel de la Madrid, the government of Mexico couldn t
be able to respond to the tragedy during this time. There was no real plan for them to try and fix up
the earthquake situation. Thus, this further divided the country even more. So much so that
according to Esteva, the earthquake had brought in a new civil response towards their government,
in which, gave rise to a new way of doing radical politics...attributed to the network of community
reconstruction groups (58). And this is something in which Mexico still suffers to this day. Military
vehicles and troopers patrolling around cities seems to be quite a common thing to see now a day....

Duke Students And Workers In Solidarity Summary
Summary
This past Friday nine students, members of Duke Students Workers in Solidarity have been
protesting a sit in on Duke University campus in the Allen Administration building, while
supporters camped outside on campus grounds. The students have been researching the history of
workers rights and political organization, while looking into the treatment of Duke s lowest paid
employees, which has become the central theme of the protest. The protest started out about an
incident relating to a parking lot incident involving a senior administrator, Mr. Trask two years
ago, who hit a parking attendant, made a racial slur and drove away. He never admitted to any of
the charges, however apologized to the attendant for his conduct. This week ... Show more content

I decided to write about this article instead, which I found extremely interesting. I thought about
how refreshing it was to read about students taking on issues of economic inequalities for campus
workers, who some may feel don t really affect them or concern them. As stated in the summary,
Duke is no stranger to sit ins as a similar protest in 1999n was organized to ensure the university
was not using sweatshops to manufacture Duke clothing. What is this saying about Duke
University? Is Duke a promoter of cheap labor and paying low wages to their employees? From a
public relations position it is concerning for the reputation of the university, the community who
depends on Duke for employment and students who attend the university. The learning that comes
from this is that students are realizing their legal rights to politically organize protests, and they
are winning. The concerns and needs of college workers have seemed to have been overlooked by
Duke University. The college operates in a bureaucratic sense. Much in the same way the
government is more concerned with process and procedures at the expense of efficiency or common

The Analysis Of The Foot Bones Of Homo Nadedi
The news is about the analysis of the foot bones of Homo nadedi, whose remains were
discovered within the Dinaledi Chamber of the Rising Star cave system in South Africa. It was
introduced to the public recently and assigned to the genus Homo provisionally. Study indicates
that H. naledi was well adapted for standing and walking on two feet, but was also possibly
comfortable climbing trees, which was described as a messiness of bipedal walking in the title.
This news item is based The Footof Homo Naledi in Nature Communications, which indicates that
H. naledi foot is predominantly humanlike in morphology and inferred function.
From my perspective, the news item and the original article are overall both scientific, persuasive
and precisely reasoned.
First, the results of study are derived from plenty of samples. The news item points out that modern
human (Homo sapien) and Homo naledi both are part of the Homo genus. The Homo genus and the
Australopithecus genus are referred to as hominins. In the original article, researchers not only
compare foot of H. naledi with that of H. sapiens, but also gather samples (e.g. G. gorilla, Pan
troglodytes, Au. Africanus, Au. Sediba, Au. Afarensis, Au ramidus, H. floresiensis, Neanderthal
etc.) from several different museums. The abundant samples enable researchers to come up with
rational conclusion through plenty of comparison. The news item mentions that Homo genus also

A Reflection On Memory Malleability
Ariel Susanto
Professor Ilona Pitkanen
Psychology 203
12 March 2017
Memory Malleability Think back to an intense moment in your life. Maybe it s a memory of the
time you thought you were going to die in a car crash. Maybe the excitement of a high school prom
night. Or maybe the time your older sister got married in a beautiful ceremony. To most people,
those memories are striking. The details remain clear in their minds. You ll remember how nervous
you felt at the prospect of a toast, the feel of the uncomfortable formal shoes and attire, the aroma of
roses in the bouquet. Months and even years later, you recount the day minute by minute, bringing
up conversations and events that happened with certainty.
These clear remembrances are ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One key aspect to FBM is the confidence attributed by the people with these memories. Although
the recollection is vivid and appears to be a clear picture, the accuracy is surprisingly off. Studies
show that over time, people s confidence in FBM increases while the accuracy decreases. In the
case of the 9/11 attacks, when people were surveyed about what they remembered within ten days,
there were significant inconsistencies. A year after the event, only about 2/3 of what people
remembered was accurate (Krauss, 2015). If people were interviewed a few days after the event
happened, their story would change when asked again the following year, and yet again if
questioned further. An interesting find is that when an incorrect detail is suggested or mentioned in
the retelling of the event, that aspect would be most likely repeated in the next recount. Confidence
correlates negatively with accuracy, although if it s an actual flashbulb memory, the inaccuracies
don t tend to fall below a sixty percent rate (Krauss, 2015).
There are multiple reasons as to why accuracy decreases over time. The simplest explanation is the
concept of working memory. As time passes, the details become less clear. There has been much
debate over the question of whether flashbulb memories are a phenomenon that actually occurs, or
if the memory is only highlighted with emotional trauma. People are

The company should have done whatever they could to modify current facilities that could
produce the Nano. Although this would lead to less production, it would make sense. They
should produce less of the Nano in order to test its performance in the market. After a successful
entry, plans should be made for large scale production (a new plant). The CEO planned poorly
for the future, even when the product didn t even hit the market yet. His goal on minimal costs
was his backbone for the Nano and he relied heavily on this one feature. He should have
undergone more market testing for his product instead of assuming that everyone was going to go
crazy for his product. He needed to come up with the proper campaign that would attract customers
for additional reasons other than cost. Everyone already knows the price is extremely low, so ads
should stress other qualities of the vehicle.
They need to ask themselves three questions: 1. What does our product exactly do? 2. Who is this
product helpful to? 3. What parts of the country/world will accept this product?
Then use a combination of the various market segments to narrow down on an EFFECTIVE target
market. Some of these may include, but are not limited to demographic, geographic, and
behavioral. They were really pushing the whole cheap aspect in an area where the market segment
is more interested in cars that symbolize a greater status. In other words, the Tata Nano is

Bud, Not Buddy Essay
Did you know that almost all African Americans were homeless during the Great Depression?
Well, they were, and so was Bud Caldwell! Bud Caldwell is a ten year old African American boy.
He is the main character in the book, Bud, Not Buddy, written by Christopher Paul Curtis. After
Bud s mother died when he was six, Bud went to an orphanage. Then, Bud went to a foster
family, but the Amoses were very mean to him. So, Bud ran away. Bud started trying to find his
father in the hopes that he may not be an orphan anymore, and so that he wouldn t be treated so
awful. Bud, Not Buddy would be a different book if it were written in a white person s perspective
because white people got things that African Americans didn t, white people thought that they were
better than African Americans, Bud would have been treated better, and he would not have been
surprised when he found out that the Amoses had hot water running into their house. To begin
with, white people got better things than African Americans. In Chapter 16, Steady Eddie gave
Bud an instrument case because his suitcase was so tattered and old. If Bud was white, he would
have had a better suitcase because white people had more money in order to buy from stores. Also,

The Various Language Skill Development
Being social animals, human beings experience an innate drive to communicate and share their
thoughts and feelings with others. The essay discusses the various language skill development
stages among the children from zero to seven years. It analyses the importance of nature and nurture
with the aid of behaviourist and nativist perspectives. In the light of the explanations by Vygotsky
and Jean Piaget, the essay attempts to discuss the role of culture, experience, maturation and
willingness to learn. Cambridge dictionary defines language as #39;a system of communication

Gradually the child imitates the words from its environment. Children are more used to the words,
like mom, milk, dad, no, that are recited to them frequently. At this stage, the child associates these
words to their meanings. After the age of two, there is a tremendous exploration of vocabulary
(Clarke, 2009). Children accumulate thousands of words till the age of six. Initially they go for
replacement of difficult terms with simple ones. This is due to their struggle with complex
vocabulary. This tendency changes after six. The conventional word order, tense and grammar are
grasped during these ages. By the age of four, children would be good conversationalist. At this
stage the syntactic and semantic developments occur in children (Choice2099, 2014). Children, in
their early years, imitate sounds and words that are produced by adults. B.F. Skinner employs his
theory of behaviourism to explain this mental process (Nellie, 2013). Skinner argues that language
development like any other behaviour or habit, can be imbibed through repetition and
reinforcement. He uses the concepts of classical conditioning and operant conditioning to explain
this phenomenon. Children associates the frequently used terms with its meanings. The word

Fall of the Romanov Dynasty
Was Nicholas solely responsible for the revolution of 1917?
The revolution of 1917 was the culmination of a number of factors coming together and causing
the volatile mix of reasons to come together and boil over. The people of Russia where fed up with
the horrible conditions they had to put up with and decided to do something about it. Some factor I
will discuss include the industrialization,
Nicholas introduced several policies which harmed his countries economic prosperity. One thing
that caused massive instability was the encouragement of industrialization. Many peasants decided
to move to the urban areas in search of a better life, with the most growth in St Petersburg (55%
between 1891 and 1900). These peasants found work in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Russia immediately declared war with Germany, and the fighting began. Soon the Tsar realised that
his visions of a short, glorious victory where never going to happen and soon the two waring
parties where entrenched in a slow, bloody war. From the outset, the Germans held every advantage
over Russia, on and supporting the battlefield.
This war created more economic problems in the cities of Russia. Inflation had know gripped
the city with some goods and services prices rising by up to 300%. Food became less and less
affordable and soon there where scuffles breaking out across the city over essentials such as bread.
The Tsar was feeling the pressure and decided to command his army from the front, taking full
responsibility for the war. With Nicholas on the battlefront, Alexandria took over the running of the
government. The situation was bad enough, and the Tsarinas poor political skill did nothing to
appease the situation. Urgent telegrams where sent to the Tsar, urging him to come back to the city

Essay On Fbla Competition
Standing in that long, obscure hallway, I could feel my stomach turning over and over like the sea
on a stormy night. What did I get myself into this time? I thought to myself as I investigated each
of my competitors waiting their turn to compete. I had worked tirelessly to prepare myself for
today. The hours consumed typing and retyping a speechthat had to have just the right phrasing. I
had my mother and two of the best teachers I knew proofread speech and give me honest
feedback. I ran through my speech numerous times, so much so that I was sure I could recite it in
my sleep. I even rehearsed responses to the hypothetical questions the judges might ask me, and
listened to my speech on repeat for two hours on the bus. It all came down to this. My opportunity
to present at the West Virginia State FBLA Competition was a few minutes away. I sought to place
at the State s not only for myself and my club, but also for my mother. Prior to getting out of the
car this morning, she gave me one of her famous pep talks to set me on my way. After that and

Assuredly, I gracefully walked into the room and proceeded to shake hands with the judges. I then
took my place in the center of the stage to begin my speech. I started with a striking catch phrase
Today I am going to tell you about an important date of mine...... Much to the judge s relief they
soon learned I was not talking about a date with a guy, but my first day of volunteering in my
community. One judge appreciated my since of humor, however the other two judges remained
solemn throughout the presentation. At the conclusion of my speech, I paused, smiled and exited
the room. I remember thinking, although I could not articulate what impression I had left on the
judges, I walked with confidence knowing I had executed my speech to the best of my

Dollar General Case Analysis
Intuitively one might assume that Dollar General, the well known extreme value retailer, has an
established competitive advantage versus other consumer goods retailers with respect to price. It
would then follow that cost would be a defining characteristic of the company, and a cost analysis
an appropriate analytical tool. However, the four distinct types of retailers within the dollar store
retail segment (original dollar stores, close out retailers, limited assortment grocers, and extreme
value retailers) all compete on price. Dollar Generalis very competitive in this regard, but this alone
has not rendered the company successful; price is not Dollar General s competitive advantage
amongst its competitors. Therefore, a... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I would suggest the company to carry out the following actions. First, the company should seek
limited expansion within the continental United States (US extreme value industry still
growing at $1.5 billion/year), namely into California. However, expansion should be limited to
this state only. Whereas development within the US had been the company s growth engine for
years, the company is now closing and remodeling stores with equal returns. As such, the
company s growth aims should be moved abroad (Europe), where extreme value markets are
well received, and stores with limited SKU s fair better than larger discount outlets. Secondly,
store merchandise productivity could be enhanced by eliminating seasonal items (costumes,
summer toys) and adding more strategic grocery items. Research suggests that same store
growth could be spurred by a heavier emphasis on fresh grocery items, and Dollar General
appears to have the delivery capabilities to keep a fair supply of perishables on hand. A slightly
larger store size for new shops might be necessary for this sort of development, as Dollar General
seems to have slightly underestimated the sweet spot for its store size with the current store model.
The stores would remain small enough to facilitate accelerated shopping, but large enough to hold
a proper number of SKU s, still in the

Ethical Dilemmas In A Worn Path
The primary moral in A Worn path is the love, and life of Phoenix Jackson. The trail she travels
across interrupts her life. The love and affection she has for her grandson , is portrayed as her
love. If we read the story closer then it ll lead us to the conclusion that Phoenix relatively does
no longer have a Grandson. Phoenix goes to the doctor and states that her grandson has an flue
and been having it for a long time. This may occasionally rationale the reader to feel that she used
to have a Grandson but he became so in poor health he died. Yet , at the same time one can see her
intellect by seeing the money fall out of the hunters jacket from a distant distance.

The Shoemaker And The Tea Party Summary
Book Analysis: The Shoemaker and The Tea Party
This book, The Shoemaker and The Tea Party is split into two different sections. The first part is
about the events that happened in Boston through the eyes of George Robert Twelves Hewes. The
second part is written about the Author, Alfred Young, who asks the question When Did They Start
Calling It the Boston Tea Party . This book is written about the memory that Hewes had of the many
events that he participated in. These events included the Boston Massacre, The Boston Tea Party,
and the tarring and feathering of people. The recollections of Hewes helped Americans to realize
that we are all equal, and all capable of doing great things to help our country.
The first section of the book is a recollection of memories that Hewes explained to two different
men, James Hawkes and Benjamin Thatcher. When Hewes finally explains some of these
events he is ninety years old and is trying to recall memories from many years before. Hewes
grew up very poor, and was a shoemaker but was very humble with the life that he lived. He
played a big role in the destroying of the tea in the Boston Harbor that was later named the Boston
Tea Party . The Boston Tea Party happened because of the large amount of taxes that the
Parliament in England was making the colonies in America pay. One of these taxes was the tax on
tea that was imported to the colonies. The citizens of Boston had realized that there was going to
be a large shipment of tea

Art Brodsky E-Book Stealing
In a piece written by Art Brodsky, Art Brodsky argues that beyond, the e book pricing, the real
problem of e books is that it is killing libraries. As Brodsky notes:
Imagine walking into a library or bookstore and needing three or four pairs of different glasses to
read different books manufactured to specific viewing equipment. Or buying a book and then having
to arbitrarily destroy it after say, two weeks. That s just nuts. But it s the current situation we re in
with eBooks.
By this, he is referring to the fact that Amazon, Google and so on, have their e book stores where
they sell goods which works on certain devices. Libraries have been an important part of our human
history, spreading our culture and knowledge over centuries. The internet

My Experience In My Summer
I can not wait to learn new things in your class this year. I am ready to read lots of new books
and some Shakespeare because I have not read a lot of his work before. I had a great summer
full of family, fun, and travel. My summer was not as interesting as your summer Mrs. Cole, but
I sure did have fun. The first trip I went on this summer was to New Orleans, which was pretty
Amazing because I got to walk down the historic streets of the world famous French Quarter. I

Overall Las Vegas was probably the best part of my summer and I am lucky to have an amazing
family to enjoy it with. Other than the two trips I went on this summer, I did not do a lot
because my parents were busy with work and my sister was busy with summer classes. I was
busy every morning for football though because we had to be at Braden River every morning at
7:30. The only good part about waking up early was that when I was done I still had most of the
day to go fishing or do anything. Workouts really help out at the beginning of the season though
because it makes us ready and strong for the whole season. Besides having football every
morning, I went fishing a lot over the summer in lakes around my neighborhood. I at least
caught around 30 bass this summer because I was mostly fishing this summer when I had
nothing else to do. The only boring thing I had to do this summer was taking drivers ed online,
so I am prepared to take my permit test when I turn 15. The whole summer was filled with fun,
but it seemed like it went by very fast. The only reason it probably went by fast was because time
flys when your having fun. With all the fun happening this year my dog probably had the least
amount of fun because while we were on vacation he was at the vet. I have a miniature
Dachshund and he is my sisters little angel because he will follow her where ever she goes. The
worst part about the end of summer is that my sister Kiana has to go back to

Protecting the Australian Native Ecosystem
Ecosystem is an important part of the environment and to protect the Australian native
ecosystem many management plans are made to preserve it. Where the disruption occurred in
the environment by human activities is not only the factor of worry, but also the exotic plants
which are trying to take over the native species are a matter of concern too. The steps taken by
humans to get rid of their own waste from the environment as well as the weeds, come under
management plans. On the excursion to Buckley s Hole, Godwin Beach, Red Beach and
Melaleuca Wetland, it was observed that these areas come under the Buckley s Hole
Management Plan. Where the abiotic and biotic factors interact with each other and help in
sustainability of better environment. But the Buckley s Hole Management Plan is not quite
successful plan to save the affected areas. The plan was implemented in 1998 (Department of
Environment Staff, 1998) and is useful to some extent but has not proved its effectiveness in all
the areas. The current hole was formed in 1980 in the tidal inlet known as Yabby Patch Creek
and became a breeding ground for the mosquitoes and a resting spot for the migratory birds (The
Real Buckley s Hole, 1980). The main reason for the execution of this plan was due to its great
framework that could preserve the Australian heritage of flora and fauna but it could be seen on
the day that it was not that applicable to fully protect the native species. However at the Buckley s

Recognition And Tragedy In Oedipus Rex, By Sophocles
An ancient Greek Philosopher as well as a Scientist named Aristotle was the teacher of Alexander
the Great and a student of Plato. Aristotle defines tragedy as imitations of life consist of action with
a serious lesson to convey and purges emotions into the audience which leads to catharsis of these
emotions. OedipusRex written by Sophoclesis an Athenian tragedywhich practically fulfills the
Aristotelian theory of a tragedy. Oedipus, the King of Thebes is a noble man with great
personality whose life is controlled by the ill fate he is born along with the tragic flaw that is
excessive pride and confidence that he can make his life best, but cannot overcome the ill fate and
boundlessly struggles. The tragedy Oedipus Rex viewed through... Show more content on

Firstly reversal is the situation in which the unexpected action occurs which is not following the
law of probability and possibility. Recognition and reversal occurs parallel to each other every
time that is when there is reversal in the ongoing plot, recognition is the realization of the Hero
which expound the previous events and is a resolution to the play. Reversal and recognition
evokes the emotion of fear and pity in the mind of the audience thus, leading to catharsis which
is releases the emotional tension cleansing one s mind. Thus in the Oedipus, the messenger
comes to cheer Oedipus and free him from his alarms about mother, but by revealing who he is,
he produces the opposite effect. The audiences develop the emotions of pity and fear towards
the tragic hero Oedipus as the suspicion of King Laius s murder fall on Oedipus which creates
terror to the time when it is confirmed that Oedipus had done the sin of ignorance/immorality by
murdering ones father and marrying ones mother. Therefore, this reversal of fate in the hero s life
fills the mind of the audience with sympathy and fears that at last during the catastrophe Oedipus
pokes out his eyes which leads to the liberation of emotional tension giving pleasure to the
audience. Deus ex Machina is a literary technique which means god out of a machine. This
technique is not used in between the play, but can be used at the beginning as a report or at the
end. Deus ex machina can be found in the character of Tiresias, the blind old man who reveals the

Ernest Hemingway Lost Generation Analysis
Ernest Hemingway in The Sun Also Rises had provided a vivid picture of the deranged lives of
young English and American expatriates crowding the bars in Paris, engaged in aimless merry
making and labeled as the lost generation by Stein. (Toker,24). The years following World War I,
the younger generation, after seeing the horrors of war, had the mindset of living fast and doing
what they wanted since we were all damned to die. Ernest Hemingways, The Sun Also Rises,
manifests Stein s Lost Generationby incorporating the up roaring lifestyle of the 20s through the
characters personalities. Hemingway pursues this by focusing on the actions of the main
characters: Brett Ashley, Jacob Barnes, and Robert Cohn. Through Jacob s perception, the reader
learns about the excessive drinking, partying, promiscuity, traveling, and self alienation that the
characters of the story took part in. Among these other things, excessive drinking is a constant
theme throughout the novel, supporting Stein s perception of this generation (Dubose, 2). No
matter where any of the main characters where or whom ever they were with, they always had a
drink in their hands, almost always in a constant state of drunkenness. The novel portrays an
agonizing and distressing picture of the post war generation, displaying two of Hemingway s
most remarkable characters: Jacob Barnes and Lady Brett Ashley (Toker, 26). Jake Barnes felt his
disconnection from society because of his experiences in the war and his inability to indulge
himself and love Lady Brett the way he wanted to. Pape 2
I lay awake thinking and my mind jumping around. Then I couldn t keep away from it, And I
started to think about Brett and all the rest of it went away. (Hemingway, 39). After a long night
of bar hopping, drinking with Brett, Robert, and among other friends, Jake comes home and lays
down; then he starts having flash backs from the war. However, Jacob s love for Brett assuaged
him into a calmer state of mind. Jake Barnes alienation results from his physical injury and sexual
impotence, this cut him off from other men not just physically and sexually but also emotionally
and socially (Toker, 27). His inability to preform sexually, causes a

My Trip On The California Health Care Facility Essay
For my discovery event, I went on a tour of The California Health Care Facility in Stockton. I
selected this event because I was very curious to know what it was like to work in a prison setting.
My desire for future work settings has been between a nursing facility and prison facility. Before
the visit I expected to know how a group was done in lower level prison and the safetyprecautions
implemented. The facility tour was lead by CTRS John Widenmann and Gaganjot Singh. The first
thing we toured was there medical mall building where all the prisons went to thee appointments
for physical therapyoccupational therapy, dentist, diagnostics, x rays and medical needs. John
told us that some inmates walk with out a guard because they have a card to specify where there
suppose to be. If they refuse to go to there appointment than force is used too make them. Along
the tour he mentioned that the rec therapists sees the inmate five time more in a week than other
members of a treatment team. We were able to visit a facilitation room, which had a class for
inmates to do artwork. One of the CTRS on staff mentioned that it is hard to have supplies for
the art projects. After touring the medical facilities, we walked a long way to the prison area,
dorm area and workspace where the recreation therapist ran groups. John showed us their offices
that over looked the play yard for some prisoners. This can be good for therapist to observe
behaviors and actions of the inmatesoutside

Ancient Egypt, Mesopotamia, And Mesopotamia
In ancient Egypt, Rome and Mesopotamia the connections that the people had with their rulers
stemmed from their belief that their ruler had a close connection with their God s. Because of the
vast role that religion played in their lives it was important to show their admiration and
appreciation for these royal beings. From a psychological standpoint, through their style,
significance, and idealization, Mesopotamia, Egypt and Rome s depictions of royalty within their
artworks functioned as the best way to encompass the impression, and supremacy that a ruler held
over their people.
For many of the people of Mesopotamia the most important part of their society was their
religion and their royalty. They believed that they held close relationships with their Gods and
they believed that their rulers were the closest possible connection that they had to their Gods.
An ancient Sumerian proverb states Man is the shadow of God, but the king is God s reflection
(Alexander). The king was believed to be personally chosen by the gods and acting in their will
however they were not considered to be god like.
The king s responsibilities included participating in religious rituals, managing the state during
peace and war time, and creating laws. The Mesopotamians believed that in order to protect
themselves they needed to gain more resources and people and this was done by expanding and
conquering surrounding areas. Another role of the king was to issue codes of law with the ideal
that he

I Am A Safe Haven At Your Hands
Imagine having a safe haven at your hands, any time of the day. It is 2013, and I am in seventh
grade. I am scrolling through Twitter in my dark room when I come across a page called Buddy
Project, and decide to read into it. As I am reading, with the light from my phone illuminating my
face, I find out that it s a nonprofit organization that pairs you with a person. It is meant to help
you deal with an eating disorder, self harm, suicidal thoughts, and mental illnesses. I am seeing all
of this information and I know I need to join the project. It was that one day in November that
changed my life forever.
I remember my heart racing when I was paired with my first buddy. I found out that her name
was Abby; she was dealing with an eating disorder and suspected she was depressed. We both
hadn t gotten help at this point, so it wasn t truly beneficial. Pain and darkness were consuming
our lives, but speaking up didn t seem like an option. The next year, 2014, I met two new people.
Their names were Danielle and Jay. Again, mutual effort was being made, but nobody got the help
they needed yet. I saw blood curdling messages, but I knew it was my job to help as best as I
could. I felt like I was drowning and gasping for air, but my main priority was the other people.
Even though there was a disclaimer that says not to use the project as a replacement for getting
help, that is what so many people did. Trying to help someone who wouldn t get professional help

  • 2. Comparing Rita Dove s Poetry And Her Life By examining Rita Dove s awards, poems, and her life, it is clear that she is one of the most influential people alive. Growing up in a time era where black and women were discriminated against, she fought for those who didn t have a voice. Through her work, she attempts to answer those unanswerable questions and about personal destiny and distilling the experiences of oppressed groups; women, blacks and working class citizens. Rita Dove was born in Akron, Ohio, to Ray Dove, the first African America chemist to work in the U.S. the industry, and Elvira Hord, who achieved honors in high school and would later share her passion for reading with her daughter. In 1970, Rita graduated from Buchtel High School as Presidential Scholar. Later, Dove graduated summa cum laude with a B.A. from Miami University in 1973. She... Rita is communicating that no heart is empty and that people can t really feel pain or suffering, it s all an illusion. The imagery of nature is used to describe flirting, she incorporates an orange, peeled and quartered, as a visual for two people who have a strong attraction towards each other. While Heart to Heart is more on the positive side and more uplifting, Parsley is more pessimistic. Through its themes, violence, wealth, power and hate. Rita reminds us that languages and ideology can combine to produce political violence. This poem gets at the fact that it s about the massacre without there being any explicit violence. Rita manages to convey an appropriate amount of violence. Money is also never explicitly mentioned, it is implied that with money comes power. • 4. The Objectification of Women in “on the Road” a Feminist... Michael Prather 12/4/08 Essay #2 The Objectification of Women in On the Road A Feminist Criticism In On the Road there is an ever present objectification of women. As a result, the woman loses her human qualities and can be compared to an inanimate object. There are several ways in which this objectification takes form in the novel. It is achieved through the act of gazing at women. The woman can also be used as a means to achieve something else, in this case sensual pleasure. Since the culture described in the novel is highly hedonistic, pleasure in terms of sex is crucial to Sal and his friends. Treating women as objects also implies to me that they are replaceable in the same way as items are obtained, used, disposed of and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Moreover, when he describes her breasts as straight and true it is implied that she looks the way a beautiful woman should. Likewise, his second girlfriend Lucille is introduced in the text as a beautiful Italian honey haired darling (On the Road 111). In the two quotations above, neither Terry nor Lucille receives a detailed description of their inner features; their beauty and sexual charisma seem enough. Undoubtedly, there is a recurring pattern in the narrator s characterization of women. The male gaze in On the Road is not only a matter of characterization and introduction of the characters in the text, but it is also a highly characteristic feature of the story itself as a pattern of action for the male characters. In quite a number of central events Dean and Sal are actively gazing at women in a highly objectifying way. Dean is on a constant look out for new acquaintances, and for Sal every city brings the possibility to see women that are exotic to him. When visiting Chicago the two friends hardly do any usual sight seeing, but instead they search for beautiful girls all over the city. The first night Dean exclaims as he is about to enter a bar: What a weird town wow, and that woman in that window up there, just looking down with her big breasts hanging from her nightgown, big wide eyes ( On The Road 224 225). Here Dean expresses an almost childish joy of exploring the local women and their supposedly promiscuous ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Chewing Gum Should Be Allowed In School Essay What is one change that could be made to make schools better? What do you think should be changed? In my opinion, one rule that should be changed to make our school better is give authorization for kids to chew gum. In fact, scientist have established that chewing gum can help enhance the student learning capability in numerous ways. Therefore, the rationale being is that kids that chew gumshould be allowed to in school reason being it could help them stay more focused and become enhanced students, it could also help enhance their memory, and I have heard people in school saying that when they are chewing gumit helps them stay relaxed. However, chewing gum should be allowed in school is on behalf of it has been scientifically proven that chewing gum can cause students to be more focused and manufacture students become better, help them enhance their memory, and also I have heard from people scoffed around school that when they chew gum it helps them stay relaxed. Kids should be able to chew gum during school reason being is that it has been scientifically proven that chewing gum can form students to stay more focused in making them better student. On the other hand, the principal s and teachers think gum should not be allowed because they think gum is an interruption considering that the students would most likely be blowing bubbles and making commotion with their bubble gum. However, if that did happen all the teachers would have to say is everyone needs to provoke blowing bubbles and then students should stop. When the teacher gives out, work it has been scientifically proven to help them stay more focused, so that means chewing gum could cause the students want to be less focus on their surroundings and stay more focused on getting their work done. Then, if they start getting their work done, that means that they are becoming superior students. Another, reason kids and students should be able to chew gum during school is it has also been scientifically proven to help improve the students memory. For example, when students are studying for a test it could help them remember what they studied about. Next, it can also help them remember what they learned that day during school thanks to they were ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 7. Influence Of Modern Western Government Their political structure has influenced modern Western government. The Roman language, Latin, is the root of many other languages like English, Spanish, and French. The Roman Empire (cont.) Formation After the fall of the Qin Dynasty in 207 B.C., 18 separate political forces proclaimed their independence, but the Han and Chu were the most powerful out of them. In 202 B.C., Liu Bang won the Chu Han Contention and found the Han dynasty, which ruled China for the next 400 years. Cultural Traditions Taoism, Buddhism, and Confucianism were introduced during this era. Education became important as schools were built everywhere. Public school was started and reserved for boys to learn new skills for free. Painting and calligraphy were now seen as forms of art and not as ways of making signs and letters. The invention of paper made it easier for scholars to record their ideas, thus leading to the boom in literature. Following the introduction of loom, silk soon became an important part of the Han culture and economy Strayer, Robert W. Chapter 1. Ways of the World: A Brief Global History with Sources. 2nd ed. • 9. The Disruption Of A Company The Disruption Dilemma I was assigned the book The Disruption Dilemma for this assignment. Gans defined disruption as what a firm faces when the choices that once drove a firm s success now become those that destroy it future. Failing firms tend to pursue the choices and strategies that made them successful. We will go through examples of how a few companies handled themselves in the midst of disruption, the types of disruptions, the reasons for disruptions, some theories of disruption, managing disruption, insuring against it, and finally the future of disruption. Let us start by comparing an old and new disruption dilemma. The Encyclopedia Britanna example is an example of disruption and how successful companies continue to do ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The key reason a firm fails from disruption is new technology, the ability to imitate, and the failure to take advantage of an opportunity like Blockbuster in 2000. There are a couple of sources of disruption, demand side, supply side mechanisms and disruptive innovation. The demand side where existing firms are blindsided from a new innovation and lose customers from changing customer wants. The supply side where organizations cannot make organizational changes necessary to compete with new entrants. Disruptive innovation follows an S Curve where an organization may initially perform worse and then rapidly improves. Companies need to predict the disruption effect of new technologies, but sometimes they are not appreciated at the time of invention and are ignored. Massively Open Online Courses or MOCC is currently changing the education field by offering free education that threatens expensive universities. A dilemma with new technologies is that they cannot be predicted. If disruptive events could be predicted, they would not really be disruptive, because a business then could plan for it. The battle was fought by two different armies within the Union and the Confederacy, The Army of the Potomac (Union) and The Army of Northern Virginia (Confederate). Antietam Creek is located just to the east of the Potomac River in Maryland. The battle was fought on a hill just above the west bank of Antietam Creek. The Army of the Potomac, who was on the offensive, was pushing towards the river. Exxon Valdez Oil Spill Considering the Legal Requirements The Exxon Valdez oil spill that took place on March 24, 1989, was responsible for an enormous amount of damage to the natural environment of Alaska. Animal life and plant life alike, were severely harmed from this disastrous spill. Being such a high risk company, one would assume that the legal requirements surrounding the company policy were prioritized. Due to the scope of the disaster though, one may wonder just how strict the requirements were that governed the operations of Exxon. Even if there were rules in place, how well were they being followed by Exxon employees? What were the legal requirements that governed the operations of Exxon? Did the people responsible for this disaster consider these? In the following discussion, these are examined from a moral analysis point of view. After a broad investigation that lead to many lawsuits and fines, it was clear that multiple factors contributed to the Exxon disaster. • 13. Suzie s Therapeutic Relationship With Vivian The way in which both doctors spoke to and cared for Vivian was beyond disheartening. Throughout the film there was a tremendous lack of patient centeredness, sensitivity, and compassion behind the doctors words and actions. The way each doctor communicated with Vivian, and then discussed Vivian in her unconscious presence, dehumanized her and placed value only on her contribution to research and academics. Although there were times at which you could see slight efforts were made by the doctors to provide care and adequate descriptions, their lack of time and empathy were much more noticeable than their altruistic intentions. Their coercion, ulterior motives, and failure to implement bioethics throughout Vivian s care was truly repulsive. The war became more complicated in 1793 when the British invaded Saint Domingue. The Spanish, who had a colony on the eastern two thirds of Hispaniola, also entered the fray by supporting armies of escaped slaves, including a force under the command of an ex slave named Toussaint Louverture. Pressed on all sides, commissioners from republican France, led by Leger Felicte Sonthonax in the northern part of the colony, began to extend freedom and citizenship to every slave in summer and autumn 1793. Inspired by this application of the rights of man, the French National Convention abolished slavery in all French possessions on February 4, 1794.This action transformed the conflict. Louverture abandoned the Spanish and began to fight for the French and the freedom of his people. Over the next couple of years, Louverture consolidated power on the island and created rigid rules that compelled ex slaves to work on plantations so as to make the island productive again. I ve chosen this statement for several reasons. Ibsen s character, Hedda Gabler, represents the women of the eighteenth and nineteenth century. Hedda stands the issues of self worth and the deflated value that each woman places upon her own importance as a result of male dominance. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Hedda is a powerful woman, who on the surface appeared to be confined by a dress, imprisoned in man s house, and smothered by a male dominated society. Hedda was a calculating bitch who dared (quite shrewdly) to cross over her set in stone boundaries , manipulate others, and stand back and watch others lives be destroyed as a result. But when she is backed into a corner by the new creative couple (George and Thea) and Judge Brack, she takes the final power into her own hand. The irony is that the power is her late father s pistol. In the play, we can also sense how woman felt during the times of patriarchy. Hedda is an extraordinary and very complex character but at the same time is fairly simple to understand. Her evil doings are somewhat erased from our minds as we justify them, we feel pity towards Hedda because of the pitiful life she is trapped in, the distorted views on life that Hedda possesses come to a climax toward the end and we understand a bit more about her character. However, just as we begin to understand her actions and feel pity towards her instead of hate we sadly discover her death at the end. In fact, it turns out that she wanted to take out a bit of revenge on the people of Mexico for what they had done to the world due to their oil extraction crusade. And how did she extract her revenge onto the country of Mexico? Well, on September 19, 1985 around 7:15 in the morning, we are demonstrated on how she decided to extract her revenge, by summoning a massive earthquake, with a magnitude of 8.0, onto the capital of Mexico, Mexico City. This earthquake was recorded as one Mexico s worst earthquake that they have ever experienced, and probably one of the deadliest of all Mexican history. However, it wasn t just the earthquake that ruined Mexico, nor did the aftershocks as well. Since Mexico was in the middle of an economic crisis and the country had a newly elected president, Miguel de la Madrid, the government of Mexico couldn t be able to respond to the tragedy during this time. There was no real plan for them to try and fix up the earthquake situation. Thus, this further divided the country even more. So much so that according to Esteva, the earthquake had brought in a new civil response towards their government, in which, gave rise to a new way of doing radical politics...attributed to the network of community reconstruction groups (58). This news item is based The Footof Homo Naledi in Nature Communications, which indicates that H. naledi foot is predominantly humanlike in morphology and inferred function. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... One key aspect to FBM is the confidence attributed by the people with these memories. Although the recollection is vivid and appears to be a clear picture, the accuracy is surprisingly off. Studies show that over time, people s confidence in FBM increases while the accuracy decreases. In the case of the 9/11 attacks, when people were surveyed about what they remembered within ten days, there were significant inconsistencies. A year after the event, only about 2/3 of what people remembered was accurate (Krauss, 2015). If people were interviewed a few days after the event happened, their story would change when asked again the following year, and yet again if questioned further. An interesting find is that when an incorrect detail is suggested or mentioned in the retelling of the event, that aspect would be most likely repeated in the next recount. Confidence correlates negatively with accuracy, although if it s an actual flashbulb memory, the inaccuracies don t tend to fall below a sixty percent rate (Krauss, 2015). There are multiple reasons as to why accuracy decreases over time. The simplest explanation is the concept of working memory. As time passes, the details become less clear. Bud Caldwell is a ten year old African American boy. He is the main character in the book, Bud, Not Buddy, written by Christopher Paul Curtis. After Bud s mother died when he was six, Bud went to an orphanage. Then, Bud went to a foster family, but the Amoses were very mean to him. So, Bud ran away. Bud started trying to find his father in the hopes that he may not be an orphan anymore, and so that he wouldn t be treated so awful. Bud, Not Buddy would be a different book if it were written in a white person s perspective because white people got things that African Americans didn t, white people thought that they were better than African Americans, Bud would have been treated better, and he would not have been surprised when he found out that the Amoses had hot water running into their house. To begin with, white people got better things than African Americans. In Chapter 16, Steady Eddie gave Bud an instrument case because his suitcase was so tattered and old. The essay discusses the various language skill development stages among the children from zero to seven years. It analyses the importance of nature and nurture with the aid of behaviourist and nativist perspectives. In the light of the explanations by Vygotsky and Jean Piaget, the essay attempts to discuss the role of culture, experience, maturation and willingness to learn. Cambridge dictionary defines language as #39;a system of communication #39; among human beings. This communication system consists of sounds and words. The element of grammar makes communication meaningful (Cambridge Dictionary 2016).... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Gradually the child imitates the words from its environment. Children are more used to the words, like mom, milk, dad, no, that are recited to them frequently. At this stage, the child associates these words to their meanings. After the age of two, there is a tremendous exploration of vocabulary (Clarke, 2009). Children accumulate thousands of words till the age of six. Initially they go for replacement of difficult terms with simple ones. This is due to their struggle with complex vocabulary. This tendency changes after six. The conventional word order, tense and grammar are grasped during these ages. By the age of four, children would be good conversationalist. At this stage the syntactic and semantic developments occur in children (Choice2099, 2014). Children, in their early years, imitate sounds and words that are produced by adults. B.F. Skinner employs his theory of behaviourism to explain this mental process (Nellie, 2013). Skinner argues that language development like any other behaviour or habit, can be imbibed through repetition and reinforcement. He uses the concepts of classical conditioning and operant conditioning to explain this phenomenon. Children associates the frequently used terms with its meanings. However, the four distinct types of retailers within the dollar store retail segment (original dollar stores, close out retailers, limited assortment grocers, and extreme value retailers) all compete on price. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I would suggest the company to carry out the following actions. First, the company should seek limited expansion within the continental United States (US extreme value industry still growing at $1.5 billion/year), namely into California. However, expansion should be limited to this state only. Whereas development within the US had been the company s growth engine for years, the company is now closing and remodeling stores with equal returns. As such, the company s growth aims should be moved abroad (Europe), where extreme value markets are well received, and stores with limited SKU s fair better than larger discount outlets. Secondly, store merchandise productivity could be enhanced by eliminating seasonal items (costumes, summer toys) and adding more strategic grocery items. Research suggests that same store growth could be spurred by a heavier emphasis on fresh grocery items, and Dollar General appears to have the delivery capabilities to keep a fair supply of perishables on hand. A slightly larger store size for new shops might be necessary for this sort of development, as Dollar General seems to have slightly underestimated the sweet spot for its store size with the current store model. The first part is about the events that happened in Boston through the eyes of George Robert Twelves Hewes. The second part is written about the Author, Alfred Young, who asks the question When Did They Start Calling It the Boston Tea Party . This book is written about the memory that Hewes had of the many events that he participated in. These events included the Boston Massacre, The Boston Tea Party, and the tarring and feathering of people. The recollections of Hewes helped Americans to realize that we are all equal, and all capable of doing great things to help our country. The first section of the book is a recollection of memories that Hewes explained to two different men, James Hawkes and Benjamin Thatcher. When Hewes finally explains some of these events he is ninety years old and is trying to recall memories from many years before. Hewes grew up very poor, and was a shoemaker but was very humble with the life that he lived. He played a big role in the destroying of the tea in the Boston Harbor that was later named the Boston Tea Party . Where the disruption occurred in the environment by human activities is not only the factor of worry, but also the exotic plants which are trying to take over the native species are a matter of concern too. The steps taken by humans to get rid of their own waste from the environment as well as the weeds, come under management plans. Ernest Hemingway Lost Generation Analysis Ernest Hemingway in The Sun Also Rises had provided a vivid picture of the deranged lives of young English and American expatriates crowding the bars in Paris, engaged in aimless merry making and labeled as the lost generation by Stein. (Toker,24). The years following World War I, the younger generation, after seeing the horrors of war, had the mindset of living fast and doing what they wanted since we were all damned to die. Ernest Hemingways, The Sun Also Rises, manifests Stein s Lost Generationby incorporating the up roaring lifestyle of the 20s through the characters personalities. Hemingway pursues this by focusing on the actions of the main characters: Brett Ashley, Jacob Barnes, and Robert Cohn. Through Jacob s perception, the reader learns about the excessive drinking, partying, promiscuity, traveling, and self alienation that the characters of the story took part in. Among these other things, excessive drinking is a constant theme throughout the novel, supporting Stein s perception of this generation (Dubose, 2). No matter where any of the main characters where or whom ever they were with, they always had a drink in their hands, almost always in a constant state of drunkenness. The novel portrays an agonizing and distressing picture of the post war generation, displaying two of Hemingway s most remarkable characters: Jacob Barnes and Lady Brett Ashley (Toker, 26). After a long night of bar hopping, drinking with Brett, Robert, and among other friends, Jake comes home and lays down; then he starts having flash backs from the war. However, Jacob s love for Brett assuaged him into a calmer state of mind. Jake Barnes alienation results from his physical injury and sexual impotence, this cut him off from other men not just physically and sexually but also emotionally and socially (Toker, 27). His inability to preform sexually, causes a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 51. My Trip On The California Health Care Facility Essay For my discovery event, I went on a tour of The California Health Care Facility in Stockton. I selected this event because I was very curious to know what it was like to work in a prison setting. My desire for future work settings has been between a nursing facility and prison facility. Before the visit I expected to know how a group was done in lower level prison and the safetyprecautions implemented. The facility tour was lead by CTRS John Widenmann and Gaganjot Singh. The first thing we toured was there medical mall building where all the prisons went to thee appointments for physical therapyoccupational therapy, dentist, diagnostics, x rays and medical needs. John told us that some inmates walk with out a guard because they have a card to specify where there suppose to be. If they refuse to go to there appointment than force is used too make them. Along the tour he mentioned that the rec therapists sees the inmate five time more in a week than other members of a treatment team. We were able to visit a facilitation room, which had a class for inmates to do artwork. One of the CTRS on staff mentioned that it is hard to have supplies for the art projects. After touring the medical facilities, we walked a long way to the prison area, dorm area and workspace where the recreation therapist ran groups. John showed us their offices that over looked the play yard for some prisoners. This can be good for therapist to observe behaviors and actions of the inmatesoutside ... • 54. I Am A Safe Haven At Your Hands Imagine having a safe haven at your hands, any time of the day. It is 2013, and I am in seventh grade. I am scrolling through Twitter in my dark room when I come across a page called Buddy Project, and decide to read into it. As I am reading, with the light from my phone illuminating my face, I find out that it s a nonprofit organization that pairs you with a person. It is meant to help you deal with an eating disorder, self harm, suicidal thoughts, and mental illnesses. I am seeing all of this information and I know I need to join the project. It was that one day in November that changed my life forever. I remember my heart racing when I was paired with my first buddy. I found out that her name was Abby; she was dealing with an eating disorder and suspected she was depressed. We both hadn t gotten help at this point, so it wasn t truly beneficial. Pain and darkness were consuming our lives, but speaking up didn t seem like an option. The next year, 2014, I met two new people. Their names were Danielle and Jay. Again, mutual effort was being made, but nobody got the help they needed yet. I saw blood curdling messages, but I knew it was my job to help as best as I could. I felt like I was drowning and gasping for air, but my main priority was the other people. Even though there was a disclaimer that says not to use the project as a replacement for getting help, that is what so many people did. Trying to help someone who wouldn t get professional help is the type of thing ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
