Examples Of College Compare And Contrast
Essays
Writing an essay on the topic "Examples of College Compare and Contrast Essays" can be a
challenging task that requires careful planning, research, and analytical skills. The difficulty
arises from the need to select appropriate examples, analyze their similarities and differences, and
present a well-structured and coherent argument.
One of the challenges is finding relevant and representative examples that effectively highlight
the key points of comparison and contrast. This requires a thorough understanding of the subject
matter and the ability to identify significant similarities and differences among the chosen
examples.
Additionally, crafting a compelling thesis statement that clearly outlines the purpose and scope of
the essay is crucial. This statement sets the tone for the entire piece and guides the reader on
what to expect. It requires a thoughtful consideration of the examples to be discussed and the
overarching themes or patterns that will emerge from the analysis.
Organizing the essay in a logical and coherent manner is another hurdle. A well-structured essay
follows a clear introduction, body, and conclusion. Each paragraph within the body must focus
on a specific aspect of the comparison or contrast, and transitions between ideas should be
smooth and seamless. Achieving this flow can be challenging, especially when dealing with
multiple examples and nuanced details.
Furthermore, the analytical aspect of the essay demands critical thinking and the ability to draw
meaningful conclusions from the examples presented. This requires not only identifying
similarities and differences but also exploring the implications and significance of these
observations. It adds a layer of complexity to the writing process, requiring a deep engagement
with the material and the development of a thoughtful and well-supported argument.
In conclusion, writing an essay on "Examples of College Compare and Contrast Essays" is a
challenging task that involves careful selection of examples, crafting a compelling thesis,
organizing the content coherently, and providing insightful analysis. It demands a combination
of research skills, critical thinking, and effective communication. While the difficulty should not
be underestimated, mastering these skills can lead to a well-crafted and impactful essay.

L Oreal Of Paris Case Summary
L oreal of Paris: Bringing Class to Mass with PlГ©nitude Executive Summary L
Oreal PlГ©nitude s problem in US market is ignoring cultural and traditional
differences about buying behavior of consumers while entering the market. The
products and marketing strategy are too overwhelming for US consumers. Thus
company should prevent this confusion as main goal. To overcome this problem,
company should release Americanized packaging and have simplified
advertisements. Analytical Summary L oreal of Paris is well known brand in
cosmetics sector especially in France. The company is trying to enter to U.S. market
where competition is high and this is a big problem in such competition because

Also according to Facial Skin Care Market Study, price is really important for two
segments which are Unconcerned (%25), Price Conscious Socializers (%17). Also
Ingredient Apathetic (%17) segment is not concerned about specific ingredients
which is an important competitive advantage of L oreal. Therefore L oreal
PlГ©nitude is not first option for %59 of US consumers. There is also an image of
PlГ©nitude that it is for use of older women. The main circumstance which caused
such negative image is the motto used in advertisement: Reduces the Signs of
Aging However in original French advertisement , it is: Delays Signs of Aging the
American version causes misunderstanding that it is a something to use after
having signs of aging. Therefore people who do not attention to read details can
easily misunderstand this phrase. Recommendation L oreal should consider cultural
differences so that they should not neglect US consumers desire of simplicity.
Hence they should change the PlГ©nitude s appearance by choosing more
effective and short information instead of too many details. In order to achieve that
goal L oreal should use Americanized packaging. Second option is that for US
market L Oreal should consider a narrow line of products to achieve again
simplicity. Because there are complaints about confusion as a result of too many
products are available. Also, while lots of money is spent to research new products,
Depression And Adolescent Depression
In 2015, an estimated 3 million adolescents aged 12 to 17 in the United States had
at least one major depressive episode in the past year ( Major Depression Among
Adolescence ). One of the leading mental health issue amongst teen in America is
depression. Depression (major depressive disorder) is defined in the American
Psychiatric Association as causing an overwhelming feeling of sadness and loss of
interest in activity. One must understand the causes of depression, how depression
affects the adolescence, and how to treat adolescence depression in order to help
those suffering from depression. To be successful in helping adolescence suffering
from depression, one must understand the causes of depression. The first of three
factors... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The unstable balancing of hormones in the body can trigger the onset of depression.
When neurotransmitters (natural brain chemicals) are impaired while carrying
signals to other parts of the body, nerve systems and receptors can change which will
cause depression. Environmental factors in ones life is the third cause which can lead
an adolescent to being susceptible to developing depression. Environmental factors
that can cause depression are factors of everyday life that bring stress and discomfort
to the adolescent. The home life of an adolescent will determine the quality of life he
has. Divorce, financial instability, dysfunctional family, lack of sleep, abuse, death,
bulling, and school are just a few of the numerous environmental factors that can
negatively impact the adolescents life leading to depression. Not only is the cause of
depression necessary in understanding those who suffer from depression, but
understanding the affect it has on the adolescent is necessary to help those suffering.
Depression affects the adolescent emotionally, physically, and functionally. In
understanding these three factors, one can understand the mindset and mentality the
depressed adolescent is feeling. Emotions are essential to determining the outcome of
ones day. If ones emotions are unstable, it creates an internal battle of feeling at
peace. Depression causes adolescents to impress negative feelings through their day.

The four largest Australian Banks have faced considerable pressure from the
community and the government in recent times. This pressure has arisen due to their
interest rate increases in association with their high reported earnings. As accountants,
we are responsible for preparing financial statements and calculating the profit
figures.
In your opinion, do you think the big banks are managing their reported earnings to
show lesser profits than what they are actually earning (i.e. using earnings
management techniques)? You are required, and must, read and incorporate
academic journal articles and other relevant materials to justify your viewpoint.

Accounting can be broadly defined as the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In order to do so, it is necessary to understand and define earnings Management.
Definition of Earnings Management
Healy and Wahlen (1999) define earnings management as:
Earnings management occurs when managers use judgement in financial reporting
and in structuring transactions to alter financial reports to either mislead some
stakeholders about the underlying economic performance of the company or to
influence contractual outcomes that depend on reported accounting numbers.
Another definition is given by Fields et al. (2001) who state that:
Earnings management occurs when managers exercise their discretion over
accounting numbers with or without restrictions. Such discretion can be either firm
value maximizing or opportunistic .
The above definitions highlight the point that managerial intent is a criterion for
earnings management (Spohr 2005). Several academic literatures seek to point out
the activities which can be considered to be earnings management. However, as the
definition of earnings management does not rely on any one item of the income
statement, it does not need to be directly connected to reported earnings. Its impact is
through accounting numbers and may also be directed at financial ratios as opposed
to earnings (Schipper 1989). Dechow and Skinner (2000) have classified earnings
management as follows:

Testing Environment For The College Classroom
In this experiment there was a total of 23 college student participants, with 15
females and eight males. Age varied between participants, ranging from 19 to 30
years old, with a mean of 22 years old and a standard deviation of 2.3 years.
Participants were of different ethnicities as well, with four Whites, six Blacks,
seven Hispanics, four Asians, and two Others. The compensation for all
participants was course credit. The testing environment for this experiment was an
eight by 15 college classroom. The college classroom provided normal lighting
(bright and clear) with a slightly higher temperature than normal room
temperature. Inside the college classroom, there were 30 desks from the middle to
the back of the room and at the front of the room was a large desk with a computer
on top. There was a whiteboard on the front wall as well, with another computer
and a printer on top of a desk to left corner of the room. There were three stimuli for
this experiment, a list of 20 random words, a sheet of eight by 11 loose leaf paper
and a two page response sheet. The first stimulus was the list of 20 random words,
which had 10 random words read out loud for each condition to all participants. The
second stimulus was the sheet of eight by 11 loose leaf paper, which was used
during the second condition of the experiment to write down the 10 random words
they were read out loud to them. The last stimulus was the two page response sheet,
that already provided an identification
Water Supply In California
The second largest consumer of California water is public supply. Public supply
has to do with both public and private water suppliers, which provide water to
others. Public supply water usages would have to deal with domestic, commercial,
industrial purposes, and public serves such as pool, parks, firefighting, etc. Public
water supply plays a huge role in many counties, and communities. The reason why
is because the public water supply systems that are located in these counties
/communities are government or facilities that are privately run. These public water
supply systems are what provides people with water to use on an everyday basis.

But humans are not the only species that need water. Animals and plants need water
as well and without it there would be nothing to live off and everything and everyone
will just fade away. In California, water is used mostly every day and it has to start
when someone starts there day. According to Environmental Protection Agency
(EPA), stated that the average American family uses more than 300 gallons of
water per day . This means that an average household would contain at least three
people, that max would be four. If one average family uses up to 300 gallons a day.
Then who can imagine how many other average families use 300 or more gallons
of water per day. But this only includes the amount of water that is used inside the
house and does not include the amount of water used outdoors. Outdoors water
usage is only 30 % of the household use while the other 70 % is indoors. Outdoor
water usage may include watering lawns, flowers, washing cars, kidding pools or

Structural Suitability and Modelling of Glass Fiber...
Introduction and Literature Review Context Freeform surfaces prevail in
contemporary architecture. Over the past two decades there has been a surge in the
use of smooth, curved surfaces, which can be attributed to improvements in 3D
modelling techniques and advances in finite element analysis. The complex
geometries, examples of which can be seen in the Figure ? below, pose challenges in
developing a feasible building envelope using conventional building materials such
as steel and concrete. This has therefore created a need to investigate the suitability
of alternative building materials such as glass fibre reinforced polymers (GFRP) to
structural design. In construction, geometrically complex free form shapes are
realised by... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Being a composite material, the properties of the GFRP are determined by: the
choice of resin and glass type, the volume fractions of the fibres and the matrix, the
manufacturing techniques employed and the material properties of its constituent
parts. Much of the current literature describes and highlights the variability in GFRP
properties owing to the above [3][4][5]. The most commonly used resins in the
production of GFRP are polyester and epoxy resins, which are both thermosetting
polymers. This means that high temperature and pressure are not required in the
manufacturing process, making GFRP a versatile material, albeit a relatively
expensive one. Both of these resins were investigated here, with the focus eventually
shifting towards polyester resin. The two most common reinforcement layouts used
in the manufacturing of GFRP are woven rovings and chopped strand mat. Woven
rovings are made up of long glass fibres aligned in the resin matrix and interwoven
in two perpendicular directions, resulting in an in plane orthotropic material of
increased specific stiffness in the directions of the glass fibres. Chopped strand mats
are made up of randomly distributed discontinuous short fibres which form a quasi
isotropic layup of
The Fast Food Industry In The 1920 s
Fast Food has been a prominent global industry since the beginning of the 20th
century. The term fast food is defined as food that can be prepared and served
quickly (Miriam Webster Dictionary). Although any meal with low preparation time
is technically fast food, usually the term refers to food sold in a restaurant or store
with preheated or precooked ingredients, and served to the customer in a packaged
form for takeout. During the past century, Western culture has had a shift in the
values of everyday life. The 1920s is often called the roaring twenties, a time when
America underwent dramatic changes in its lifestyle, values, and technology (Hogan,
pg. 24). The cause of popularity of fast foodis the affordability and immediate service.
After World War I, automobiles were becoming quite popular and affordable. The
drive in restaurants were thus introduced to accommodate the vehicles. In 1912, the
first fast food joint called the Automat opened in New York. The Automat was a
cafeteria with food behind glass windows and coin operated slots (HyunJeong para.
4). The company is famous for making the idea of dining out popular throughout the
East Coast. In 1921, another American company called White Castle, opened ... Show

In 1940, McDonald s opened as a simple walk up barbecue and progressed into a
hamburger joint. By 1955, McDonald s opened several restaurants under the new
leadership of Ray Kroc. The well known assembly line first designed for the
production of the Ford Model T, came to the Golden Arches . Over the next few
decades, small chains and franchises grew into giant corporations. Fast food
franchises had become popular dining stops from coast to coast, thanks to their
standardized menus, easily recognized signage, and unified advertising strategies
(Accupos para. 5). Dinner frequently was now eaten outside the home and not around

Hume s Paradox And The Standard Of Taste
Additionally, about Hume s paradox, if we wish to ascertain the standard of taste,
we should observe those people who are expert in adjusting themselves to the
aesthetic situation and in bracketing intrusive circumstances when they respond to
artworks, (Carroll). Not every individual is knowledgeable in this manner, in fact,
there are quite a few that are. Therefore, Hume later states thus, through the
principles of taste be universal, and, nearly, if not entirely the same in all men; yet
few are qualified to give judgment on any work of art, or establish their own
sentiment as the standard of beauty, (Hume 109). If the critic allows bias to enter
his or her consciousness while providing judgment, that individual is not qualified
for the task. When critics use their personal feelings to discern one work of art
from another, a standard of taste is established as well. These specific critics have
distinguishable characteristics as follows: a strong sense, united to delicate
sentiment, improved by practice, perfected by comparison, and cleared of all
prejudice, can alone entitle critics to this valuable character; and the joint verdict of
such, wherever they are to be found, is the true standard of taste and beauty, (Hume
109). This idea follows the idea that beauty is a feeling rather than a descriptive
term as well. Of the Standard of Taste provides the notion that the feeling of pleasure
is based on praise. Hume uses his paradox to explore the feeling beauty captures
What Are The Strength And Weaknesses Of Greene King

Should The American Government Be Celebrated When
Created
America s government, which was viewed as revolutionary when created, is often
criticized for an array of problems varying on the political beliefs of who is talking.
Some see measures which the government takes as half measures while others see
the same steps as a massive unconstitutional abuse of power. But, one would be
hard pressed to find a single American who doesn t hold at least one grievance with
our nation s laws. But, there are reasons why the American government was
celebrated when created. A good deal of America s policies do benefit a majority its
citizens.
A majority of criticism lobbed at America is not unfounded. Elected congressmen
before being a legislator seem to work in a limited range of fields. It s rare for an
elected official to have any real world experience in the fields they pass legislation
on. For example, the head of the House of Representative s Subcommittee on
Space, Brian Babin, worked as a dentist and has a degree in Biology . Joseph Pitts,
head of the House s Subcommittee on Health, worked as a teacher and served in the
Air Force previously. These legislators also come from a limited amount of parties.
Of the 435 elected members of the U.S. House of Representatives there are no
independent members. In the one hundred Senate members there are two, Angus

From state to state laws concerning voting and registering to vote can vary. Even
once votes are tallied for elections there can still be inconsistencies, especially in the
presidential election due to the electoral college. The electoral college is a group of
representatives for candidates, called electors, that are chosen by the popular vote in
the presidential election. Aside from a few exceptions, whichever candidate receives
the largest vote in a state gets all electors from that state which makes states with
large populations like California and Texas have a larger
Comparison Of Donatello David
Part One The Donatello David is depicted more as a young boy wearing a hat and
holding a sword into the head of Goliath. He is nude in this depiction and he shown
with long hair. The sculpture looks as though it is standing still. Currently the David
completed by Donatello is located in the Museo Nazionale del Bargello, Florence.
The sculpture was completed in 1440 and is purely bronze which is shown in its
dull shininess. The David stands 5 and 2 Вј tall.
The Bernini David is a more developed man with shorter hair. He shows more of a
muscular build while he is preparing to use his slingshot to defeat Goliath as he is
twisting his waist and arms as to preparing to swing his happen with great force.
This sculpture shows great movement in its detail and this is known as dynamic
action. This David is located in Galleria Borghese, Rome. The sculpture is marble
as seen it is pale color and lack of shininess shows it lacks the characteristics of it
were a bronze statue. Bernini completed this David in 1623 with the dimensions of 5
7 in height.
Part Two Compare and Contrast:
Donatello used his skill to depict David as a still figure in the defeat of Goliath.
The sword is stabbed in the head of goliath and the sculpture shows some patina as
it was done in 1440 and bronze does show rust over time which shows the coloration
of green on the statue. The statue looks almost as it is posing for its viewers showing
that the little guy can beat the big guy as shown by this statue in Florence as it
pertains to them as a city against other larger Italian cities. The posture that this David
shows is contrapposto in just standing in the moment.
Bernini designed his David to appear as it was theatrical and expansive. The so
called flexibility of the sculpture is using dynamic action. The life like adult male
that Bernini sculpted is in the very instant of combat as he is readying his
slingshot with a twist of his waist and arm. This differs from the David of
Donatello in that Donatello s is after the battle had taken place and shows David as
victorious. Both David s are similar in the fact that neither is wearing armor during
or after the battle. Although Bernini s David has armor at his feet but chooses not to
use it as
Representations of Native Americans in Dances with
Wolves...
Film is more than the instrument of a representation; it is also the object of
representation. It is not a reflection or a refraction of the real ; instead, it is like a
photograph of the mirrored reflection of a painted image. (Kilpatrick) Although
films have found a place in society for about a century, the labels they possess, such
as stereotypes which Natives American are recognized for, have their roots from
many centuries ago (Kilpatrick). The Searchers, a movie directed by John Fordand
starred by John Wayne, tells the story of a veteran of the American Civil War and
how after his return home he would go after the maligned Indians who killed his
family and kidnapped his younger niece. After struggling for five years to recover...

These harmful images of how the Indian Americans were depicted, were
subliminally created by him in many of his previous films where they were
repeatedly stereotyped under the maligned appearance of bloodthirsty savages and
hardly ever illustrated by their alter ego the noble savages. These descriptions and
especially the denigrated bloodthirsty savage illustrations of the Indians remain
seen as purely animals into the eyes of non native populations, which caused racial
discrimination against them at that epoch. Therefore, John Ford tried to redeem
himself by making the film The Searchers, where he tried to expose the nefarious
causes of resentment and racism that at that time the general population had for
the Indians. This way of apology is likely to be strong supported by the image of
the film s hero. The depiction of the hero stresses the despicable habits of the
westerners such as the tendency of the prejudices towards others. As shown by the
arrival of the John Wayne character to his brother s house and how he looked at
Martin who is half blood Indian. Similarly, Dances with Wolves represented an
explicit apology to the indigenous people. However, although it was made by a
white person point of view, it emphasizes Indians points of view. This is implicitly
represented as the hero who is a white soldier from the American Civil War
transformed himself into a real Indian of the Lakota Sioux tribe. Although both films
symbolize intentions of apology to the
Learning To Read And Write Analysis
I say to you quite frankly that the time for racial discrimination is over, is what
Governor Jimmy Carter said during his Inaugural Address on January 12, 1971, but it
was not always true. In the texts, Superman and Me, by Sherman Alexie, and,
Learning to Read and Write, by Frederick Douglass there are clear problems of racial
discrimination between both authors. There are many other similarities and
differences throughout Frederick and Sherman s demanding upbringing, the most
prominent are the main character s obstacles, goals, and the claims that the author
makes in the book. The obstacles that Sherman and Frederick go through can be
compared and contrasted quite efficiently. To begin with, they both face extreme
racial and physical... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
To illustrate, they both have the innate urge to read and write. Another inference
that can be made is that they are both mainly fueled by racial discrimination to
read. Sherman uses it as an escape from the downcast life he lived, and Frederick
also reads to escape the pain, but he also reads as an act of defiance. In the text
Frederick says Mistress, in teaching me the alphabet, had given me the inch, and no
precaution could prevent me from taking the ell (Douglass). Essentially he is
saying that because his mistress had taken the first step he wasn t going to stop
just because she said. One point that can be made is their inspiration to follow
their goals. Alexie uses superman, I learned to read using a Superman comic...
(Alexie), while Frederick uses a book called the Columbian Orator. The books
helped them take different paths. The Columbian Orator depicted a slave that was
defying his master; as a result, Frederick curious about the prospect of freedom. The
Superman comics helped Sherman realize that no barrier can stop him. The two are
very alike and different in terms of their goals and accomplishing

SCHOLARSHIPS Essentially, scholarships can be classified as free money
awarded to students to cover parts of their university education. Scholarship funds
do not have to be reimbursed. Some might think it is not worthwhile to apply due
to how competitive most of them are. Scholarships are often merit based, which
means the student must satisfy a qualification to get the reward. Qualification
conditions can vary; being a great student, a rising athletics star, or being part of a
particular demographic could be items that the scholarship is seeking. Soon after

Consequently, individuals should start applying a couple of months earlier,
sometime close to September and December seems to be an ideal choice. Some
applications may need students to devote some serious time initially, but students
might be able to use pieces of some applications for other scholarships, like essays or

Urban Sprawl And New Urbanism
Urban Sprawl and New Urbanism In the modern world, human civilization has seen
many changes from earlier points in our history. In the more developed countries in
the world, human civilization is broken up into two main categories known as Urban
Sprawl and New Urbanism . In the interactive, Urban Sprawl and New Urbanismare
broken down into five main branches: Regional Transportation, Parking, Street
Plans, Shops, Civic Buildings, Workplaces, and Residential Distribution. These
branches reflect many of the places that we live in and see every day, and explains
their purpose in depth. Regional Transportation in New Urbanism includes mass
transit that is of easy access to the people that live within the vicinity. The public
transportation in New Urbanism is meant to carry large amounts of people at once
such as light rail busses, and subways in order to get them to their destination
quickly to minimize the amount of time it takes them to get where they need to go
since the commutes are fairly short. This also cuts down on car trips since the
busses and subways are within walking distance, and provides people with more
time for family and community life, and can even bring low income workers to
suburbs where there are many jobs. In terms of Urban Sprawl, many businesses,
shops, and jobs are not within a close distance, and as a result, many have to drive
themselves to their destinations. A vast amount of people rely on highways to get to
wherever they need to go, and

Claes Oldenburg is known for his unique sculptures that reflect the pop culture era.
Born in Sweden, his family moved to the United States when Oldenburg was just a
baby. When Oldenburg got older her attended Yale University and moved to New
York where he met the two people that inspired him artistically, Jim Dine and Allan
Kaprow. With this inspiration, Oldenburg began his career as an artist.
Oldenburg first opened small exhibits around New York filled with sculptures he
created out of paper mache and plaster. From here his art took off and began
catching the attention of people everywhere. In the 1960 s Oldenburg rented out a
space in New York and filled it with sculptures that depicted diner food, cheap
clothing, and other manufactured items. Oldenburg called this The Store . The
sculptures that he created in The Store were called soft sculptures. These types of
sculptures are made from cloth, foam, rubber, paper and other type of soft materials.
These works of art are now known as the first sculptural expression of pop art. With

Abstract
When examining your own personal assessment I found some interesting views of
myself by working through the Pearson Prentice Hall Self Assessment Library.
Some of the judgments resulting from the tests have surprised me, while other
results confirmed what I already suspected. This assessment will examine and give
some insight on who I am in the business world, how I work with others in the
realm of business, and life within my organization. I will also explain how the Holy
Spirit has worked in my life to transform my weakness into strengths to become a
better person, employee, and leader.

I believe that this is a fair assessment of my abilities to make decisions when
required to complete a project. Ethical decision making is imperative to good
business practices and is a main focus at my company. Dr. Fischer states in Lesson
Two that the ethical perspectives provides a framework of values by which to make
decisions for society (Fischer, 2009). I believe that all organizations have a code of
ethics that accompany the businesses plan for achievement and success.
Working with Others
Communication, Leadership, Team, Power and Conflict Skills In any organization,
working with others is a necessity to accomplish its goals. Several factors must exist
in order to reach the expectation and include communication, leadership and team
building skills. In the PowerPoint Presentation, communication is defined as the
transference and understanding of meaning (Stretch, 2009), which tells us that we
must have a clear idea of what is expected and how we do the task. To carry out the
task at hand, effective teams are comprised of different skill sets. These are technical
expertise, problem solving and decision making and interpersonal skills (Robbins
Judge, 2009, p 330). In the process of the team, power and conflict issues could occur.
During these struggles, effective communication and leadership take on the
challenges of focusing the team and resolving the issues to move forward.

Jonestown in Guyana Essay
Jonestown was a community built by Peoples Temple in Guyana that ended in
tragedy with a death toll of 918 people. Founded in 1956 by Jim Jones, the Peoples
Temple accepted everyone into their church and focused on helping people in need.
Jones originally established the Peoples Temple in Indianapolis, Indiana, but then
moved it to Redwood Valley, California in 1966. Jones had a vision of a communist
community, one in which everyone lived together in harmony and worked for the
common good. (Rosenberg). In 1973, Jim Jonesleased land in Guyana, South America
for his dream community. Peoples Templesoon after sent out people to clear the land
for homes and install fences for isolation.

couldn t contact their families without permission, and their letters were read

people in the dead of night for suicide drills where everyone had to drink unknown
liquids out of paper cups to show their loyalty. Jones had this as his backup, and
told people this would be their way out if someone invaded the compound. Jim
Jones wasn t a beautiful human being though; he had mood swings and lost his
temper at simple things. Jones was becoming more ill and taking drugs. Jones let
his mistresses make his decisions at times, and it wasn t organized like everyone

representation of California that had an abundant interest in Jonestown. He
requested to go, and Jones warned him it would be dangerous. He got his approval,
and soon the word go out that he was going to be taking a trip to the compound. He
took his advisor, a NBC news crew, and family members of the residents at Jonestown

My Life In High School
y name is Madison Newman. I am tall with auburn hair and blue eyes. I live the
normal life of a seventeen year old in high school. I have sublime friends, a great
boyfriend, and an even better family that surround me. I plan to go to an excellent
college to become a Structural Engineer right after I figure out how to pay for it.
My life is going to be unforgettable. Whenever my eyes open, I see my mother, and
she tells me it s time to wake up for school. Today is the last day before Winter
Break. Today, I will take the remainder of the final exams I will ever have to take in
high school. Just another day of senior year. I roll over to see my mint green walls
and my turntable with an Abbey Road vinyl on it, not spinning. I toss my feet over
my bed and stand up for another day of senior year. I go to school, where I am
surrounded by friends. They are up to their normal shenanigans making jokes and
laughing about who know s what. I see my boyfriend with them, fitting right in
with the group s persona. His name is Will, and he is tall with dark shaggy hair and
blue eyes. I finish out the school day with the relief that I won t be cursed with
finals again until college. After school, I walk out to the parking lot with Will and
hop into his car. We drive to my house and sit down on the couch to watch our
favorite show, Grey s Anatomy. We watch at least one episode almost every day.
Eventually we get restless and go to his house where he plays video games and I
do my homework or look through social media on my phone. Occasionally we go
over to a friend s house, or go out and find something to do in town. *** When my
eyes open, I see a stranger, who is informing me it s time to wake up and take my
medicine. Medicine? I don t take medicine? I sit up to see white walls with a
painting of a lighthouse hanging on the wall to my left. I notice the room has one
large window, and a white couch underneath the lighthouse painting. Where am I?
The stranger is still standing in front of me with a tray that has two blue pills and a
glass of water on it. I question the stranger, and ask why I need to take this medicine
and where I am, but when I hear his response I do not listen. I m not fond of the

a) Using the data in Table 1, specify a linear functional form for the demand for
Combination 1 meals, and run a regression to estimate the demand for Combo 1
meals.
According to the passage, we know that the Quantity of meals sold by Combination
(Q) is related to the average price charged (P) and the dollar amount spent on
newspaper ads for each week in 1998(A). The price will influence the quantity of
demand with inverse relation, and ads may lead to change of demand with positive

We can have strong confident to conclude that P and A variable has some correlation
with Q.
However, the Adjusted R square equals to 0.2337, which is not every large. That is
to say, P and A are able to explain only 23.37% changes of quantity of demand.
d) Discuss how the estimation of demand might be improved.
From Part C, we find that the adjusted R square is not very high. So we should
increase the adjusted R square by increasing number of variables. We believe that the
estimation of demand might be improved, if we can collect more information about
competitors, including their price, advertising, product improvement, etc. And the
population of tourists can be consideration, even though the permanent population
didn t change obviously.
e) Using your estimated demand equation, calculate an own price elasticity and an
advertising elasticity. Compute the elasticity values at the sample mean values of the
data in Table 1.
Discuss, in quantitative terms, the meaning of each elasticity.
When Mean of P=4, Mean of A=10009, then Qd= 100626.05 16392.65P
+1.58A=50869.67
Own price elasticity = 16392.65*4/50869.67= 1.289 Advertising
elasticity=1.58*10009/50869.67=0.3109
The own price elasticity is 1.289, which means that if the price goes up $1, the
quantity will go down 1.289, and the revenue will drop.
The advertising elasticity is 0.3109, which means that if the investment on
Illusions In The Great Gatsby

entertainment. F. Scott Fitzgerald s The Great Gatsby shows the danger of living
these illusions. The American Dream of social mobility was at an all time high in the
1920s but was crushed by the corruption of the highest class. Magicians take the
ordinary and make it extraordinary, Fitzgerald takes Gatsby s extraordinary life and
destroys everything that made it extraordinary, completing the holocaust of The
American Dream. The story s title, The Great Gatsbyshows Gatsby as grand and gives
the sense that he is a performer. When Nick and Jordan go into the library at one of
Gatsby s parties they meet a man who is in shock that the books are real. He had

money or their vast carelessness or whatever it was that kept them together, and let
other people clean up the mess they had made. . . . (179). The American Dream
revolves around people dreaming of moving up in class when it should revolve
around people making the best out of the life they have. This can be moving up or
it can be bettering the class they are in. Fitzgerald shows through Myrtle and

entranced by the money in Daisy s voice, inspiring him to want to move up in class.

Analysis And Evaluation Of Working With A Team
Executive Summary (250 words) This report provides an analysis and evaluation
of working with a team in order to achieve both individual and team goals. This has
been done through the application of decision making, attribution theory and
perception to understand how to achieve the best outcome given any circumstance.
Before any of the Everest climbs, the clear consensus of the group was that
communication was vital in order to be successful. To do so, social media such as
Facebook and Skype Conference calls, Google documents and face to face
communication both during and after tutorials were utilised. Through the
comparison of two different simulation environments with similar scenarios and
roles for each, results have indicated that groups who spend time prior to the
exercise combined with past experiences and clear communication are more likely
to complete the tasks assigned to them and therefore reach their goals together. This
is evident in the 14% increase to 69% of the completion of group goals in the
second climb, as opposed to just 54% in the first. Individual goals also increased
from 14% to 86% for the environmentalist, a great improvement which is attributed to
the increase in communication due to the second climb being done face to face,
where the application of perceptual skills was more successful since everyone was
able to identify and voice their opinions in the same environment. This report also
highlights that while the outcome of one group may have
Essay about Privatization of Social Security
It s a matter of either losing all that you have worked for and live in poverty when
retired or allowing your hard earned dollars to grow and have a secure comfortable
retirement. I believe that Social Security is a doomed Government Program and that
Privatization of Social Security would allow for a more secure retirementplan for all
Americans. Social Securitywas first created to help aging Americans in their senior
years so they would not end up in poverty. Social Security was signed in as law on
August 14, 1935 by President Franklin D. Roosevelt and was fully operating by
1940 (SSA). Originally a retirement program, but Social Security now includes

benefits and now is age sixty six and soon will be sixty seven and as the years go by
who knows what the retirement age will be for us (SSA). Social Security is paid
through payroll taxes which pay for the benefits of today s retirees (SSA). Money
in excess of what is needed to pay today s benefits is invested in special treasury
bonds. This system works well when there is a rather high ratio of workers to
beneficiaries or retirees. For instance, in 1960, there were 5.1 workers for every
Social Security recipient or retiree, but the demographics are changing because
Americans are living longer and are having fewer children (Crane). Today, there
are 3.3 workers paying Social Security payroll taxes for every one person collecting
Social Security benefits (Crane). That number will drop to 2 to 1 in less than forty
years (Crane). At this ratio there will not be enough workers to pay scheduled
benefits at currents tax rates. The last reason why social
What Is Unrestricted Moral Relativism
In this essay I will argue that unrestricted moral relativism is incorrect because of
the objection that our moral judgments is not just based on our culture or history. I
believe that our moral judgments are based on who we choose to be. If this theory
was true. This means that you are stuck with cultural morals for the rest of our lives.
Yet a lot of people move to different places with different cultures. They start to
adopt to new morals, and new way of thinking of what is right or wrong.
Moral relativism states that our moral judgments are based on our culture. There are
no standpoint that is uniquely privileged over all others. The main idea about this
theory is that different cultures have different moral values, so there are no universal
The Characteristics Of Witchcraft In Early Modem Europe
Witchcraft in Early Modem Europe was perceived with mixed attitudes by the
society. People in the 16th and 17th centuries accepted witchcraft when it worked
to help them, but saw it as a satanic practice when it failed. Although it was socially
acceptable for people to seek for advice or help from witches, it was taboo for witches
to use magicas it was linked to devil worship and other beliefs that went against the
Christian faith. Furthermore, women accused of sorcery were often unable to
receive a fair trial as demonstrated by the leading questions that were posed and the
acts of torture that led to forced confessions. During a period of religious and political
turmoil, the Trial of Tempel Anneke illustrates the fact that society was not so much
concerned with the truth, but rather convicted these women because of their
marginalized role in society caused by social disposition. Furthermore, it can be
suggested that while it was acceptable for people to inquire about magic, the law
heavily punished those who would practice witchcraft. It is evident that Tempel
Anneke displays the typical characteristics of an accused witch an older female
figure that was perceived as a burden to society and offered little in return. Anneke
was a widower who lost her husband who during the Thirty Years War and
depended on her son s financial assistance. Furthermore, she was informally trained
by her mother as a naturopathic healer and used her healing skills to help cure
people and animals in her community by using herbs and other plants. Anneke had
not been accused of witchcraft while her neighbors had hired her for medicinal
purposes on a regular basis until the case of Hans Kholer because of the harmful
magic she was accused of employing that led to fear and resentment towards her.
Lastly, society s perceptions of women during the time furthered their inability to
prove their innocence through a fair trial. It was a widely held belief that women
were of weak understanding, and are hence more likely to be ensnared by the lies
and illusions of the Devil (pg. xxxvi). Society s prejudice towards women, especially
elderly women dependent on society, predetermined the fate of the women charged
for witchcraft; the court of
Analysis of the Film American Beauty
American Beauty is a 1999 drama film that focuses on contemporary lives of
individuals having diverse personalities and identities. The movie and the main
character Lester Burnham are aiming to make us realise that life can be short
therefore we should lead more meaningful lives. Through this, he takes us one year
back which summarises his life and those around him. Outward appearances can be
very deceiving as anyone can acquire superficial impressions. In this discussion, I
will be examining closely on a number of identities that is found in American Beauty .
In the film, the characters are in the search for what they believed was their
happiness. Too focused on finding what they deemed was happiness, they failed to
consistently maintain coherent identities. Lester Burnham, a husband and a father,
who is the protagonist of the film, feels ambushed at home and at work. He has little
to no control of his life as his wife Carolyn strives to be the perfect American family.
Lester unleashes from being controlled when he meets his daughter s best friend,
Angela and sees her as a femme fatale and their neighbour s son, Ricky. Ricky
introduces himself to Lester on one of Carolyn s business social function and gets
along immediately while sharing a joint. Lester witnesses Ricky quit his job
casually and was amazed: I think you just became my personal hero. Meeting Ricky
inspired Lester to re live his teenage years and he was happy of the outcome in the
beginning. Through
The Issue Of Year-Round Schooling
Whether Florida should become a year round schooling state is a new issue. Year
round school is when the bread is broken up and scattered throughout the school
year. The children would go to school for a few weeks, then get a few weeks off.
This process would repeat. Floridians should not go to year round schooling because
the constant breaks are disruptive and teens can t get summer jobs to help pay for
college. However, many believe children won t forget information with the short
breaks. There are too many problems with year round schooling, Florida should not
do it. Year round schoolis very disruptive. Children might get very involved in a
lesson only to have a sudden break and lose that momentum. It was really hard to get

Chinese America – The Perseverant Underdog Essay
Since the birth of America, many different people from all around the world
flocked to North America in hopes of making a good life for themselves, or their
families. Many came from the west, as well as a large amount came from the east.
Most of these eastern immigrants hailed from China. These people were welcomed
with open arms and kindness for a short time, at least at first. Afterwards, there was a
long period of racial tension, due to social differences. How did the Chinese
immigrants integrate themselves into the American culture, and what difficulties did
they face? One thing is sure; the Chinese have stood fast throughout history, and

Unfortunately, there would be people who would seek to take advantage of these
immigrants, assaulting them with unfair or unsafe work conditions. They also had
to contend with those who perceived them and other Asian people as a threat, to
their society and their job market. (Cao Novas XIII) Eventually, the nation felt the
Asian workforce was no longer needed, and thus created the Asian Exclusion Act of
1882, among a long list of various acts that would keep Asian immigrants from
coming to America. Not only were they no longer allowed passage into the nation,
they also struggled with the right to equality, courtesy, consideration, and dignity.
They were allowed to work for little pay, and then were mistreated, for no real
justifiable reason. Even worse, they couldn t invite and bring over their loved ones
from their homeland. Thus, many Chinese Americans who were alone remained

Immigrants was the construction of the Transcontinental Railroad. It was in 1862 that
Congress called a massive railroad to be constructed, linking the east to the west.
Large amounts of Chinese applied for the jobs that were called for during the
construction of the Transcontinental Railroad, many of them hired immediately upon

Nirvana is a place of peace, similar to heaven. Benares Sermon was for the
followers of Buddha, and was written to open eyes of the followers. Buddha s
words became widespread because they offered guidance to the people. Not
everybody had to practice the Eightfold Path, but this did not mean many people
chose not to. This showed that the people in this society were afraid to follow the
rules in order to get to nirvana. Liberation was the end goal, which is why the
people were so willing to obey by these rules. This meant if you followed this got
liberated from rebirth. Benares Sermon shows how willing people are to follow
somebody s rules.
This follows with a lot of the other things we learned, because up until this point
almost everybody had to follow rules no matter what, the people did not get to say
if they wanted to do something or not. And as we learn about different societies, we
also learn about the different religions that they had. Each society is different; the

What Is The Theme Of Foreign By Carol Ann Duffy
Foreign, written by Carol Ann Duffy, is a poem depicting the perspective of an
immigrant worker who lives in unfamiliar surroundings and narrates their
experiences. In this dramatic monologue, Duffy uses language and themes in
effective ways that allow readers to interpret the different themes and ideas to
highlight the persona s sense of confusion, feelings, nostalgia, and many more.
Through the use of literary devices, regular structure and varied tones throughout the
poem, the author presents strong themes that can be related to the audience as well as
to gain sympathy to the narrator.

The narrator describes his scenario and the memories that he has faced during his
time in the dismal dwellings in [the] strange, dark city (Stanza 1, Line 1/2). The
narrator describes both the readers and their own agendas, where both would use
the public transport. Work. Sleep. (Stanza 3, Line 1) The author uses caesura
effectively in the first sentence because she is intentionally breaking the flow of
the text to add a new form of perspective. In hindsight, all readers do in fact use a
mode of transport, work, then sleep. It is a cycle that should somehow be broken
or taken aware of, so that our lives can be significant rather than a copy of
everybody else. Continuing on, the stanza goes through a deeper theme of
prejudice and discrimination against those who are foreign, such as the persona
themselves, as they describe the imaginative sight of seeing a name for yourself
sprayed in red / against a brick wall. A hate name. Red like blood. (Stanza 3, Line 2
/3) This can be interpreted in different ways, once again, where either this is what
the narrator thinks of himself in the strange city of the unknown. An outcast, marked
by a name written in blood, or this is the narrator telling the audience directly what
he has witnessed, and everything is slowly collapsing as if this place were coming

A Report On The City Of Pakistan
After gazing on Mughal monuments and feeling the beat of pounding drums at Sufi
shrines in Lahore, many travelers choose to head south to Pakistan s financial capital,
Karahi for some fun in the sun, upscale nightclubs, and modern skyscrapers. From
rambling through the ramparts of Old Lahore to an all night beach rave in Karachi,
you might be in for a culture shock, but here s how to get there. Train The cheapest
option is the train. The Fareed Express #38DN leaves Lahore every morning at
10:00am and arrives in Karachi at 12:35pm the next day. That means your train
journey will be at least 26 1/2 hours if the train is running on time. Trains in
Pakistan are not known to be exceptionally punctual or safe. There are 5 possible
classes for this train, including the full berth AC class for 1810 rupees ($23), the
full berth EC (Economy) for 790 rupees ($10), a full seat in economy for 710
rupees ($8.90), a half berth for 480 rupees ($6) and a half seat for 400 rupees ($5).
Sitting on half of a seat for 26 hours is certainly not the most comfortable way to
travel to Karachi, but it is the cheapest. To see fares, timetables, and addresses of
booking agents, you can check out Pakistan Railways online. Tickets are usually
booked through a travel agent in order to avoid the inevitable chaos on the station.
Bus A safer, more comfortable, and faster option is to the take the bus. There are

Essay On Linear Regression
From Table 8 and Table 3, we were quickly able to identify that the regression
assumptions were not going to be satisfied and that our dependent variable needed
transforming. Looking at the plot in figure 8, we could see that the residuals of
the predictions were not following a straight line. This indicated that linear
regression was not suitable for the data. This led us to transforming the worldwide
box office revenue variable as shown in Table 9. Figures 4 7 showed that the
transformed variable made a huge difference. The linear regression assumptions
were satisfied and the residual plots indicated the residuals followed a linear
pattern. Considering Tables 10 13, we were able to find the best variables for the
regression model at... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Accuracies of around 80% 81% were obtained and this showed that the linear
regression model was strong. It is clear that transforming the dependent variable
has a key role in why the linear regression prediction accuracies are quite high.
Considering that only pre release data was used to predict the worldwide box
office revenue and the best model had three independent variables, it is a very high
accuracy and shows how effective linear regression can be. Table 16 and 17
displays the results of the SVM prediction models. The same three variables that
were used to predict the worldwide box office revenue was used again in the SVM
algorithm. The results obtained from the models were slightly better than the
linear regression models. SVM is more advanced then linear regression so it is not
unexpected that SVM has given us a higher accuracy. The SVM models did not
exceed the accuracy of the regression by much. The accuracies of the SVM models
ranged from 81% 83%. Nevertheless the accuracies of the models predicting the
worldwide box office revenues are impressive and shows movie studios how effective
pre release data is. From Table 18, we have a good idea as to how Random Forest
performs when predicting the success of movies. The accuracies of the various
regression models indicate that the accuracies range form 82 85.71%. As there are 2

Athens was never a democracy. The reasons are as follow there was still slavery,

were the only people considered citizens, they went to markets, sold goods, had
jobs, took care of the land and met with friends to discuss politics, and went to
temples to worship, they were the only ones allowed a formal education as well.
Women spent most of their lives in the house. They weaved, cooked, trained the
slaves, sewed, and raised the children being inside made the women pale which
was considered a sign of beauty. This is also why women s faces are often painted
white on Greek pottery. Children in Athens lived fairly simple lives boys went to
school to learn to read, writing, and memorize the works of philosophers. Girls stayed
at home with their mothers and learned what they would need to have a house of
their own. They helped around the house and that was basically it. Childhood was
short for girls, who were often married away at age thirteen. Once married, the girls
managed their husband s household. Athenians accomplished many important things
such as Aristotle developed the empirical method or the modern day scientific
method, Direct democracy, Polis and the sculptures they made started to look more

This pressure has arisen due to their interest rate increases in association with their high reported earnings. As accountants, we are responsible for preparing financial statements and calculating the profit figures. In your opinion, do you think the big banks are managing their reported earnings to show lesser profits than what they are actually earning (i.e. using earnings management techniques)? You are required, and must, read and incorporate academic journal articles and other relevant materials to justify your viewpoint. INTRODUCTION Accounting can be broadly defined as the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In order to do so, it is necessary to understand and define earnings Management. Definition of Earnings Management Healy and Wahlen (1999) define earnings management as: Earnings management occurs when managers use judgement in financial reporting and in structuring transactions to alter financial reports to either mislead some stakeholders about the underlying economic performance of the company or to influence contractual outcomes that depend on reported accounting numbers. Another definition is given by Fields et al. (2001) who state that: Earnings management occurs when managers exercise their discretion over accounting numbers with or without restrictions. Such discretion can be either firm value maximizing or opportunistic . The above definitions highlight the point that managerial intent is a criterion for earnings management (Spohr 2005). Several academic literatures seek to point out the activities which can be considered to be earnings management. However, as the definition of earnings management does not rely on any one item of the income statement, it does not need to be directly connected to reported earnings. Its impact is through accounting numbers and may also be directed at financial ratios as opposed to earnings (Schipper 1989). Participants were of different ethnicities as well, with four Whites, six Blacks, seven Hispanics, four Asians, and two Others. The compensation for all participants was course credit. The testing environment for this experiment was an eight by 15 college classroom. The college classroom provided normal lighting (bright and clear) with a slightly higher temperature than normal room temperature. Inside the college classroom, there were 30 desks from the middle to the back of the room and at the front of the room was a large desk with a computer on top. There was a whiteboard on the front wall as well, with another computer and a printer on top of a desk to left corner of the room. There were three stimuli for this experiment, a list of 20 random words, a sheet of eight by 11 loose leaf paper and a two page response sheet. The first stimulus was the list of 20 random words, which had 10 random words read out loud for each condition to all participants. The second stimulus was the sheet of eight by 11 loose leaf paper, which was used during the second condition of the experiment to write down the 10 random words they were read out loud to them. • 7. Structural Suitability and Modelling of Glass Fiber... Introduction and Literature Review Context Freeform surfaces prevail in contemporary architecture. Over the past two decades there has been a surge in the use of smooth, curved surfaces, which can be attributed to improvements in 3D modelling techniques and advances in finite element analysis. The complex geometries, examples of which can be seen in the Figure ? below, pose challenges in developing a feasible building envelope using conventional building materials such as steel and concrete. This has therefore created a need to investigate the suitability of alternative building materials such as glass fibre reinforced polymers (GFRP) to structural design. In construction, geometrically complex free form shapes are realised by... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Being a composite material, the properties of the GFRP are determined by: the choice of resin and glass type, the volume fractions of the fibres and the matrix, the manufacturing techniques employed and the material properties of its constituent parts. Much of the current literature describes and highlights the variability in GFRP properties owing to the above [3][4][5]. The most commonly used resins in the production of GFRP are polyester and epoxy resins, which are both thermosetting polymers. This means that high temperature and pressure are not required in the manufacturing process, making GFRP a versatile material, albeit a relatively expensive one. Both of these resins were investigated here, with the focus eventually shifting towards polyester resin. The two most common reinforcement layouts used in the manufacturing of GFRP are woven rovings and chopped strand mat. Woven rovings are made up of long glass fibres aligned in the resin matrix and interwoven in two perpendicular directions, resulting in an in plane orthotropic material of increased specific stiffness in the directions of the glass fibres. Chopped strand mats are made up of randomly distributed discontinuous short fibres which form a quasi isotropic layup of

The term fast food is defined as food that can be prepared and served quickly (Miriam Webster Dictionary). Although any meal with low preparation time is technically fast food, usually the term refers to food sold in a restaurant or store with preheated or precooked ingredients, and served to the customer in a packaged form for takeout. During the past century, Western culture has had a shift in the values of everyday life. The 1920s is often called the roaring twenties, a time when America underwent dramatic changes in its lifestyle, values, and technology (Hogan, pg. 24). The cause of popularity of fast foodis the affordability and immediate service. After World War I, automobiles were becoming quite popular and affordable. The drive in restaurants were thus introduced to accommodate the vehicles. In 1912, the first fast food joint called the Automat opened in New York. • 9. Hume s Paradox And The Standard Of Taste Additionally, about Hume s paradox, if we wish to ascertain the standard of taste, we should observe those people who are expert in adjusting themselves to the aesthetic situation and in bracketing intrusive circumstances when they respond to artworks, (Carroll). Not every individual is knowledgeable in this manner, in fact, there are quite a few that are. Therefore, Hume later states thus, through the principles of taste be universal, and, nearly, if not entirely the same in all men; yet few are qualified to give judgment on any work of art, or establish their own sentiment as the standard of beauty, (Hume 109). If the critic allows bias to enter his or her consciousness while providing judgment, that individual is not qualified for the task. When critics use their personal feelings to discern one work of art from another, a standard of taste is established as well. These specific critics have distinguishable characteristics as follows: a strong sense, united to delicate sentiment, improved by practice, perfected by comparison, and cleared of all prejudice, can alone entitle critics to this valuable character; and the joint verdict of such, wherever they are to be found, is the true standard of taste and beauty, (Hume 109). This idea follows the idea that beauty is a feeling rather than a descriptive term as well. Of the Standard of Taste provides the notion that the feeling of pleasure is based on praise. • 12. Comparison Of Donatello David Part One The Donatello David is depicted more as a young boy wearing a hat and holding a sword into the head of Goliath. He is nude in this depiction and he shown with long hair. The sculpture looks as though it is standing still. Currently the David completed by Donatello is located in the Museo Nazionale del Bargello, Florence. The sculpture was completed in 1440 and is purely bronze which is shown in its dull shininess. The David stands 5 and 2 Вј tall. The Bernini David is a more developed man with shorter hair. He shows more of a muscular build while he is preparing to use his slingshot to defeat Goliath as he is twisting his waist and arms as to preparing to swing his happen with great force. This sculpture shows great movement in its detail and this is known as dynamic action. This David is located in Galleria Borghese, Rome. The sculpture is marble as seen it is pale color and lack of shininess shows it lacks the characteristics of it were a bronze statue. Bernini completed this David in 1623 with the dimensions of 5 7 in height. Part Two Compare and Contrast: Donatello used his skill to depict David as a still figure in the defeat of Goliath. The sword is stabbed in the head of goliath and the sculpture shows some patina as it was done in 1440 and bronze does show rust over time which shows the coloration of green on the statue. The statue looks almost as it is posing for its viewers showing that the little guy can beat the big guy as shown by this statue in Florence as it pertains to them as a city against other larger Italian cities. The posture that this David shows is contrapposto in just standing in the moment. Bernini designed his David to appear as it was theatrical and expansive. The so called flexibility of the sculpture is using dynamic action. The life like adult male that Bernini sculpted is in the very instant of combat as he is readying his slingshot with a twist of his waist and arm. This differs from the David of Donatello in that Donatello s is after the battle had taken place and shows David as victorious. Both David s are similar in the fact that neither is wearing armor during or after the battle. Although Bernini s David has armor at his feet but chooses not to use it as

These harmful images of how the Indian Americans were depicted, were subliminally created by him in many of his previous films where they were repeatedly stereotyped under the maligned appearance of bloodthirsty savages and hardly ever illustrated by their alter ego the noble savages. These descriptions and especially the denigrated bloodthirsty savage illustrations of the Indians remain seen as purely animals into the eyes of non native populations, which caused racial discrimination against them at that epoch. Therefore, John Ford tried to redeem himself by making the film The Searchers, where he tried to expose the nefarious causes of resentment and racism that at that time the general population had for the Indians. This way of apology is likely to be strong supported by the image of the film s hero. The depiction of the hero stresses the despicable habits of the westerners such as the tendency of the prejudices towards others. As shown by the arrival of the John Wayne character to his brother s house and how he looked at Martin who is half blood Indian. Similarly, Dances with Wolves represented an explicit apology to the indigenous people. However, although it was made by a white person point of view, it emphasizes Indians points of view. This is implicitly represented as the hero who is a white soldier from the American Civil War transformed himself into a real Indian of the Lakota Sioux tribe. The public transportation in New Urbanism is meant to carry large amounts of people at once such as light rail busses, and subways in order to get them to their destination quickly to minimize the amount of time it takes them to get where they need to go since the commutes are fairly short. This also cuts down on car trips since the busses and subways are within walking distance, and provides people with more time for family and community life, and can even bring low income workers to suburbs where there are many jobs. In terms of Urban Sprawl, many businesses, shops, and jobs are not within a close distance, and as a result, many have to drive themselves to their destinations. Analysis And Evaluation Of Working With A Team Executive Summary (250 words) This report provides an analysis and evaluation of working with a team in order to achieve both individual and team goals. This has been done through the application of decision making, attribution theory and perception to understand how to achieve the best outcome given any circumstance. Before any of the Everest climbs, the clear consensus of the group was that communication was vital in order to be successful. To do so, social media such as Facebook and Skype Conference calls, Google documents and face to face communication both during and after tutorials were utilised. Through the comparison of two different simulation environments with similar scenarios and roles for each, results have indicated that groups who spend time prior to the exercise combined with past experiences and clear communication are more likely to complete the tasks assigned to them and therefore reach their goals together. This is evident in the 14% increase to 69% of the completion of group goals in the second climb, as opposed to just 54% in the first. Individual goals also increased from 14% to 86% for the environmentalist, a great improvement which is attributed to the increase in communication due to the second climb being done face to face, where the application of perceptual skills was more successful since everyone was able to identify and voice their opinions in the same environment. This report also highlights that while the outcome of one group may have

I believe that Social Security is a doomed Government Program and that Privatization of Social Security would allow for a more secure retirementplan for all Americans. Social Securitywas first created to help aging Americans in their senior years so they would not end up in poverty. Social Security was signed in as law on August 14, 1935 by President Franklin D. Roosevelt and was fully operating by 1940 (SSA). Social Security is paid through payroll taxes which pay for the benefits of today s retirees (SSA). Money in excess of what is needed to pay today s benefits is invested in special treasury bonds. This system works well when there is a rather high ratio of workers to beneficiaries or retirees. For instance, in 1960, there were 5.1 workers for every Social Security recipient or retiree, but the demographics are changing because Americans are living longer and are having fewer children (Crane). Today, there are 3.3 workers paying Social Security payroll taxes for every one person collecting Social Security benefits (Crane). That number will drop to 2 to 1 in less than forty years (Crane). At this ratio there will not be enough workers to pay scheduled benefits at currents tax rates. The last reason why social

  • 31. The Characteristics Of Witchcraft In Early Modem Europe Witchcraft in Early Modem Europe was perceived with mixed attitudes by the society. People in the 16th and 17th centuries accepted witchcraft when it worked to help them, but saw it as a satanic practice when it failed. Although it was socially acceptable for people to seek for advice or help from witches, it was taboo for witches to use magicas it was linked to devil worship and other beliefs that went against the Christian faith. Furthermore, women accused of sorcery were often unable to receive a fair trial as demonstrated by the leading questions that were posed and the acts of torture that led to forced confessions. During a period of religious and political turmoil, the Trial of Tempel Anneke illustrates the fact that society was not so much concerned with the truth, but rather convicted these women because of their marginalized role in society caused by social disposition. Furthermore, it can be suggested that while it was acceptable for people to inquire about magic, the law heavily punished those who would practice witchcraft. It is evident that Tempel Anneke displays the typical characteristics of an accused witch an older female figure that was perceived as a burden to society and offered little in return. Anneke was a widower who lost her husband who during the Thirty Years War and depended on her son s financial assistance. Furthermore, she was informally trained by her mother as a naturopathic healer and used her healing skills to help cure people and animals in her community by using herbs and other plants. Anneke had not been accused of witchcraft while her neighbors had hired her for medicinal purposes on a regular basis until the case of Hans Kholer because of the harmful magic she was accused of employing that led to fear and resentment towards her. Lastly, society s perceptions of women during the time furthered their inability to prove their innocence through a fair trial. It was a widely held belief that women were of weak understanding, and are hence more likely to be ensnared by the lies and illusions of the Devil (pg. xxxvi). Society s prejudice towards women, especially elderly women dependent on society, predetermined the fate of the women charged for witchcraft; the court of

It is clear that transforming the dependent variable has a key role in why the linear regression prediction accuracies are quite high. Considering that only pre release data was used to predict the worldwide box office revenue and the best model had three independent variables, it is a very high accuracy and shows how effective linear regression can be. Table 16 and 17 displays the results of the SVM prediction models. The same three variables that were used to predict the worldwide box office revenue was used again in the SVM algorithm. The results obtained from the models were slightly better than the linear regression models.
