The Scarlet Letter Essay Prompts
Composing an essay on "The Scarlet Letter Essay Prompts" poses a considerable challenge that
requires a delicate balance of literary analysis, historical context, and critical thinking. The
prompts associated with Nathaniel Hawthorne's classic work are multifaceted, demanding a
nuanced exploration of characters, themes, and symbolism.
Firstly, delving into the intricacies of the characters in "The Scarlet Letter" demands a deep
understanding of their motives, conflicts, and evolutions throughout the narrative. Crafting
insightful analyses of Hester Prynne's resilience, Reverend Dimmesdale's internal struggles, and
the enigmatic Pearl requires a keen eye for detail and a profound connection to the text.
Moreover, addressing the themes embedded in the novel requires the ability to navigate through
complex societal issues such as sin, guilt, and redemption. Unraveling the layers of symbolism,
like the scarlet letter itself, the scaffold, and the forest, adds an additional layer of complexity to
the task.
Consideration of the historical context is indispensable, as Hawthorne's work is deeply rooted in
the Puritanical society of 17th-century New England. The writer must skillfully integrate
historical insights into their essay, highlighting the impact of Puritan beliefs on characters and
plot developments.
Furthermore, successful essays on this topic necessitate a critical examination of Hawthorne's
narrative techniques, exploring the use of symbolism, allegory, and irony. Developing a coherent
and compelling argument while navigating these literary devices requires a high level of
analytical prowess.
In conclusion, tackling an essay on "The Scarlet Letter Essay Prompts" demands a
comprehensive understanding of the novel's characters, themes, and historical context. It
challenges writers to synthesize literary analysis with historical insight, all while maintaining a
critical lens. Only with a meticulous approach can one successfully navigate the complexities of
this literary masterpiece.

The Equal Pay Act Of The United States
Introduction
During the early history in America women were deprived of some of the many
rights given to the male citizens. It has almost been a century since women were
awarded the right to vote in the United States. It s been half a century after the
Equal Pay Act was established. The Equal Pay act led to a reduction in the wage
gap, but wage differences based on sex persist (Korgen Giraffe, 2015). Sadly, there
is still a lot of prejudice towards women in the workplace. Bigotry towards women
in the workplace has been dominant through the years. Many perceive women as
being weak and not able to effectively provide their leadership duties in their
workplaces due to their emotions (weaker sex). Positions in leadership are often given

By the 1900s, 142,000 of the employees were women. In the 1900s a third of all
government jobs were done by women. Many women grew to appreciate the
benefits of working outside the home. As businesses created white collar positions
in the 1950s, women were steered toward what became known as pink collar jobs.
В¬Pink collar workers are those employed in service sector jobs considered to be
women s work, such as secretaries, receptionists, nurses, elementary school teachers,
airline flight attendants, restaurant workers, and beauty salon operators ( Korgen
Giraffe, 2015).
Why Women in Leadership
Women often take an alternative approach to leading teams encouraging more open
discussion, cultivating talent and sharing credit. Feedback is the place where women
bosses may add the most value (Meers, 2009).
Like I stated before, women are viewed as the weaker sex. But after doing some
research I have found that many employees would rather have a female as their
employer. Listed below are five main reasons:
Better communicators In order to be an effective leader one must communicate
effectively.
Better community builders The best leaders are learning to lead through the power
that comes from building alliances instead of competing.
Stronger business ethics Women in leadership roles tend to acknowledge and
consider the rights of others in the search of fairness.
More patience Women are known for having more patience in general.

Ever since LEGO started experiencing double digit annual sales growth, (by
launching new toy games, branded theme parks, entering the video game sector,
introducing mobile applications, introducing toys for girls, etc.) they realized they
needed a model that was standardized, modular and scalable. Hence, allowing them
to expand to new markets in a less amount of time. They already had a decently
established market in USA and UK; they were looking for an expansion in other
countries as well. This model had to tackle major issues like scalability challenges,

The generic strategies used by LEGO (according to me) were:

Corporate strategy
Growth strategy: With the help of growth strategy, LEGO introduced new toys in the
market. Initially LEGO was something that boys liked playing with but Knudstorp
introduced LEGO for girls thus targeting girl child audience which increased his

Product differentiation strategy: Lego was facing stiff competition from its Canadian

What Is The Rise Of American Imperialism
The rise of the Untied States in the 20th century as the world s leading superpower is
because they followed a foreign policy of imperialism, which furthered their
economic expansion throughout the world. When studying imperialism, many people
think of imperialism as the well known traditional British imperialism in Africa.
However, William Appleman Williams argues in his book, The Tragedy of American
Diplomacy, that the U.S. formed a new type of imperialism in the 20th century, which
was unique to that of traditional British imperialism because the U.S. used economic,
diplomatic, and military means to further their expansion throughout the world. Brian
Crozier defines this new type of imperialism that the U.S. created in the 20th century
as... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Missionary diplomacy can be seen when the U.S. intervened in the Bolshevik
revolution in 1917, to promote democracy. Wilson was concerned with the
Bolsheviks because communist ideology was against imperialism and Wilson
thought that if the Bolsheviks rose to power, then communism would spread to
China and other parts of Asia that would restrict the Open Door Policy. Wilson
supplied anti Bolshevik groups with guns and economic supplies in hoping that the
anti Bolsheviks would be victorious. However, Wilson did not support anti
Bolsheviks to promote democracy, but it was the fear that if the Bolsheviks rose to
power communism would spread to Asia, then the Open Door Policy would be
eliminated, which would be detrimental to U.S. business interests in China.
Missionary diplomacy was a negative neo colonial foreign policy because the U.S
claimed that they wanted to intervene in international problems to promote
democracy, but the real reason for intervention was that the U.S. wanted to protect
the Open Door Policy which would preserve their economic interests in the world.
However, Williams argument as to how the U.S foreign policy in the 20th century
was unique is false because Canada followed similar

Baby Boomer s Goals And Goals
After World War II, between the years of 1946 and 1964, there was a surge of
birth. After that period and the influx of children being brought into the world, the
world was severely affected by these dubbed baby boomers . Baby Boomers, in a

these baby boomers goals and aspirations? What were their values? What actions
did they take to make sure they had a good life for themselves and their families?
Were their decisions based in politics? Some would say that these baby boomer s
goals and actions contributed to the success of America s middle class. Others
would argue that their actions caused our middle class to decline. Maybe it is in
the middle of the spectrum? The goals and actions of our Baby Boomer generation

Why Ted Is Not The Only Place Where Ted
His work was not the only place where Ted was considered unreliable. When
Theodore transferred from University of Tacoma to the University of Washington
he met and fell in love with Stephanie Brooks. At first in this relationship all was
well, But Stephanie was pragmatic. It was wonderful to be in love, to have a
college romance, to stroll through the wooded paths of the campus hand in
hand...but she sensed that Ted was floundering, that he had no real plans, no real
prospects for the future (Rule, 2000). Much to Ted s dismay, Stephanie soon broke
this relationship off. Some claim that this is one of the many things that helped
ease Theodore Bundy over the edge into homicidal rage, and most cite a similar
description of Stephanie Brooks to the majority of his later victims. For quite
some time Ted excelled at life, his broken heart over Stephanie and learning the
truth of his parentage seeming to have a reverse effect on him than most people.
He studied psychology and received mostly A s through his senior year. After
graduating his psychology program Theodore Bundy eventually applied to and
enrolled in Law School in Tacoma, Washington. He strived to win back the heart of
his beloved Stephanie Brooks, all the while carrying on a relationship that had last
over four years with a different woman Meg. Once Theodore was able to win
Stephanie s heart, and make her fall in love with him again he crushed her, much in
the same way he believed that she had intentionally crushed

added a new link to the supply chain process in the form of in house design process.
The strategy of expansion via acquisitions has allowed Li and Fung to gain access
to the Asian buying offices of Laura Ashley and Anne Taylor. By 2000, Li and
Fung was five times the size of its two local competitors. Supply chain Expansion
via Internet and E commerce In 1995, Li and Fung had discovered the intranet as a

communications were simplified, order progress easily monitored, and online
inspections done in real time. In 1997, customized extranet sites linked key retailers
with manufacturers. Three years later, ten extranet sites existed; each of which
facilitated online product development processes. The use of the internet prompted

Terrorism Is Very Real For Mnes Essay
Sadly, terrorism permeates everyday society, and the intensifying impact of terrorism
on international business is a global phenomenon with implications for both theory
and practice. The research question addressed by this exploratory study is how
international businesses apply past terrorism exposure and experience from operating
in risky locations to create organizational preparedness and performance resilience to
absorb and endure future terrorist attacks. This paper contributes to the international
business literature by addressing a gap in the literature how firms can prepare for and
respond to terrorism. The study contributes to a theory of organizational resilience by
identifying antecedents and associated interactions. The paper contributes to practice
by exploring the role of business continuity planning as a bridge between terrorism
experience and performance resilience.
Introduction: Terrorism and International Business
The increasing effect of terrorism on international business is at once a tragedy and
a serious challenge to executives and researchers struggling to identify the factors
that shape a firm s ability to deal with both the threat and the reality of terrorism.

Department of State Country Reports on Terrorism, 2015). Between 1968 and 2009,
there were 16,301 fatalities associated

Evaluation Of A Preschool Classroom During Play Time
In an a preschool classroom during play time, you may see boys playing with cars
and dressing up as firefighters and police officers while the girls are playing make
believe in the kitchen and folding laundry. The difference in how children may play
and/or interact is clear to see. At a very young age, children already have started to
associate different toys, clothing, jobs, behaviors, and/or colors with gender. What
accounts for accounts for this in children? Reading about gender typing in the book
made me become more interested in what factors contribute to developing gender
typing in children. The book, in my opinion, gives a very vague description of what
really develops gender typing in children. My belief is that gender typing is a very
complex concept and there are many factors that go into the different aspects of
gender typing in children.
In a multidimensional study in gender typing in preschoolers and parents, Patricia
Turner and Judit Gervai assessed the attitudes, personality, preferences, and cultural
differences of the selected participants. Within the study, 82 four year old girls and
79 four year old boys along with their parents participated. Approximately half of
the participants came from preschools in Cambridge, England and Budasqet,
Hungary (Turner Gervai, 1995). The procedure used for the children was for each
child to be shown black and white drawings of six male and female typical, and eight

The Need For Change At The Mining Industry
The Need for Change Everyday companies are evolving, from startup companies to
the well established businesses, they are all changing to keep up with the times.
Though some changes are not always, what is best for a company, change is what
can make or break a company. In the mining industry, the change is constant from
employees to the day to day operations. However, the change that is needed with
most mines is the needto change the way that management does business with their
employees. These miningcompanies can benefit from using guides to not only keep
the valued employees that they have, but to build new employees and make them

Some managers would go as far as hiring their friends so that they would have their
own support system to which they would have control over that area of the mine.
Having a company that is highly staffed with managers that does what they want can
make it hard for the employees to come to work every day. This creates a hostile
work environment to which the employees are in fear for their jobs, which in turn
creates a high turnover in employees.
Company Overview This is a good example of a mining company where the
managers do what they want. The managers go as far as keeping corporate staff in
the dark about issues, extremely rude, used profanity more than a person of that
caliper should, and lied to the general manger about day to day issues. Employees
reporting counterproductive work behaviors described their work environments as
poorly organized with a helpless or uninterested management team (Laschinger,

revelation on how these managers really treated people and the relations that was
not supposed to happen, happened. For any company this is unacceptable, the
general manager became complacent and let the managers do what they wanted,
which in turn caused many liabilities, for instance the company was being sued
every other week. If this company keeps going the way that it is, it will go under and
over 600 employees will lose their jobs. Changes are needed, the first step would be to

Thalassemia is a disorder that affects the blood of those affected with the disease.
Thalassemia is an inherited disorder. Those affected with thalassemia experience
irregular hemoglobin formation. The symptoms of the disorder have varying
indications, which depend on the specific type of thalassemia. A common trait of the
disease is mild to severe anemia. Thalassemia is an inherited disease. The disease is
observed under two main types О± and ОІ thalassemia. The cause of the hemoglobin
disorder is hereditary. Both types of thalassemia are autosomal recessive diseases.
Adult hemoglobin is made up of four protein chains. The four chains are made up of
two О± and two ОІ chains. In patients with thalassemia, one can observe deficiencies
in either the alpha or beta chain. These defects cause the body to produce irregular
red bloodcells. О± thalassemia is most prevalent in people of African descent. This
is because the deletion of a О± locus that is responsible for О± thalassemia is more

correlated to deletion of the 16p chromosome, which is the chromosome where you

The Best Days Of My Life
I have lived in Columbia for all my life. I have lived in two different houses in a
matter of fourteen years. There are some days that I want to forget because I hated
what I did that day, also, there are some days in Columbia that I will never forget.
For example, the day I moved was one of the best days of my life because now I
don t need to share a room with my brother. Also, seeing all the stuff we have had
in his garage that we have had for 14 years. When I was looking at all those stuff it
reminded me how special our old house was. One of my personal favorites was
when I was in 5th grade. At my school we had something called Safety patrol, and
that is where we come before and after school to tell the K 4 to stop running and to
walk to the playground or the bus. Usually, after school, I would go to my aunt s
work and it would be the best time. I got to see all the different things she does. She
gets to see people at the hospital, which I got to do 1 time and the patient was the
nicest in the world. She gave me 10 dollars to buy food of my choice and I got a
cheeseburger and fries for lunch. Since my aunt and my mom work at the hospital
usually after about 20 minutes I would go over to my mom s office and go and
finish my homework. Then I and my mom would go home. this really reflected on
my life because after going home I learned that even though people are not as safe
as other people we can still help them in certain ways. Moving is also one of my
favorite things, but the main reason is changing schools. I changed from Lange to
Gentry. When I first heard we were moving I was so mad because at Lange I had
so many. Friends that I never wanted to forget but I only knew about 3 5 people at
gentry so it was scary for me. The first week of school I had to go to my friend
Charlie s house because at the time we had not moved to into our new house.
During school, it was a shock to me because at the time I did not know that Gentry
and Lange look the same so, during the first day, I knew every single room from up
to down. When I got my schedule for the first time I did not have everything I did
at Lange. On my original schedule, I did not have band or AVID on there so I had to
go to the office and get
People Taking Risks In Beowulf
Things will always be unknown unless we take risks. In Beowulf, our epic hero
Beowulf takes a risk by helping out the Danes and killing the ferocious beast,
Grendel. Another example of someone taking risks was when President Reagan
stated that he encourages NASA to continue to attempt to send astronauts to space
after The Challenger incident. Lastly, Oxitec took a risk when they made genetically
modified mosquitoes. People take risks because they believe that the outcome will
be extraordinary. Beowulf is a story about a man who volunteers to help out the
Danes. Beowulf, the prince of the Geats, travels to the land of the Danes to defeat the
terrible monster, Grendel, who has been haunting their land for fourteen winters.

The Aedes aegypti mosquito are among the deadliest creatures on the planet. They
transmitted the yellow fever virus in the nineteen thirties to millions of people.
They also carry a deadly virus called Dengue, which has no vaccine or cure.
According to WHO, the disease affects 50 million people a year. Oxitec, a British
biotechnology company wanted to take a risk and try something new to help stop
the spread of Dengue. They came up with the idea to modify the genetic structure
of the male Aedes mosquito; transforming it into a GMO that is capable of
destroying its own species. This has never been attempted before but they are
willing to do anything to try and help control the spread of Dengue. There are
always risks that s why we start with small studies in geographically isolated

Blame Colonialism In Africa
Blame colonialism for Africa s lack of development.
Africa s lack of development can be attributed to its history of colonialism and
imperialism.
In the late 1400 s wealth hungry traders arrived from all over Europe Belgium,
France, Germany, Portugal, Spain, Italy, and the United Kingdomand started their
colonial practices. They set up trading posts in Africa, with a special interest in coastal
regions. European traders raided towns and instigated slavery. A profusion of disease
and starvation hit Africa during the initiation of its colonization. European traders
also looked to exploit Africa s abundant raw materials. European missionaries
infiltrated Africa to convert the locals to Christianity and hoped to instill European
customs and ideologies, which in turn destroyed African traditions and religion. U.S.
and European colonizing leaders negotiated how to split up the continent, without
consent from African natives. This produced increased African inter ethnic group
tension and aggression, which paved the path for future socio political and cultural
conflicts in African countries. By the late 1800 s, European culture was assimilated
by the African population. Europeans had split up most of the continental territory by
the late 1880s and between 1884 and 1885, European representatives created codes
for annexing territory as a method to stop competition for African colonies. The
colonial government and the colonial economy were two factions of European policy

The Pros And Cons Of Probable Cause For A Search
Hey, Professor Farris, according to the Shelby County Sheriff s Department any
search or seizure without a warrant must be justified and supported by clear,
convincing and articulable facts. Officers must be prepared to justify any and all
warrantless searches. A search without a warrant has consistently been found by the
courts to be preemptively unreasonable, and therefore invalid, absent specific and
articulable facts. If an experienced officer has the reasonable suspicions can
articulate to a set of facts and circumstances that criminal activity may be afoot and
make rational inferences. (Booker, 2015) The officer must have probable causeunder
any circumstances that would lead a reasonable man to believe that it is more likely
than not a certain individual has committed or is committing an absolute crime.
Officers may search vehicles when there is probable cause to believe that
contraband or evidence of a crime is present in the vehicle. The vehicles need only
to show inherent mobility rather than actual mobility. The search can be made
immediately or delayed as long as probable cause existed even if the vehicle has
been impounded and immobilized. An officer may search in any place that the
object of the search may reasonably be found. This includes locked containers.
Probable cause must be item specific. Probable cause for arrestis not probable cause
for a search. Probable cause for a warrantless vehicle search has to be just as
sufficient as probable cause to support

Progressives versus Populists
The onset 20th Century holds two main movements: The Populists and The
Progressives. These two parties are similar, but their policies and philosophies hold
diversities. The Populists party comprises of farmers and poor whites in the south;
they focus on eastern interests i.e. railroads and banks. The Populists also call for
government action, to intervene and to create an efficient society which includes a
flourishing middle class. The Progressives include educated middle class men and
men of universities, they too demanded for reform, but accomplish their goals
through legislation and the judicial system. The Progressives focused on reform as
well as destroying the Robber Barons. Some Progressives were actually a part of the
Populist Party; they weren t contradictory parties. To simplify the matter The
Populist party held picnics in order to present discussions, while the Progressives
hold educated and sophisticated men of great esteem who were much more formal.
The Populist Party was the people s party, hence the name Populist, the party was
created in the late 1800s when the Southern Famer alliance contacted Powderly, the
head of The Knights of Labor. The party s first platform was called the Omaha
Platformwhich called for the abolition of the national bank, graduated income tax,
direct election of senators, civil service reform, an eight hour work week, and the gov
t control of railroads, telegraphs and telephones. The Populists supported the

The Responsibilities of the Federal Reserve
Congress has handed over the responsibility for monetary to the Federal Reserve,
also known as the Fed, but retains oversight responsibilities in order to ensure that the
Federal Reserve adheres to the statutory mandate of stable prices, moderate long term
rates of interest, as well as, maximum employment (Labonte, 2014). The
responsibilities of the Fed as the country s central bankare classified into four:
monetary policy, supervision of particular types of banks and financial institutions for
soundness and safety, provision of emergency liquidity through the function of the
lender of last resort, and the provision of services of the payment system to financial
institutions, as well as, the government (Labonte, 2014). The monetary role of the
Federal Reserve necessitates aggregate demand management. The Federal Reserve
defines monetary policy as the measures it undertakes in order to influence the cost
and availability of credit and money to enhance the objectives mandated by Congress,
which is maximum sustainable employment and a stable price level (Appelbaum,
2014). Since the expectations of businesses as capital goods purchasers and
households as consumers exert an essential influence on the main section of spending
in America, and the expectations are influenced in essential ways by the Federal
Reserve s actions, a wider definition would involve the policies, directives, forecasts
of the economy, statements, and other actions by the Federal Reserve, particularly
those
The Threat Within The Triumph
Amongst all of the readings and class discussions, all sorts of different topics have
been covered. From our biological makeup and how it affects us (nature), to how
we were brought up and raised and how that shapes us (nurture). All of the topics
that we have covered so far all have somewhat to do with one another. The main idea
from part 1 of this class has to do with the different things that have made us humans,
into who we are today not only as individuals, but as a culture(and sub cultures). To
understand how this works, you need to first look at our biological makeup. From
the reading The Threat Within The Triumph, the author discusses the idea of a
caricature . He says that, our caricature emphasizes the dramatic and distinctive
features of events , (3). This relates to our bodies nervous system because our
nervous system picks and chooses what and how we will react to a stimulus. Some
things have more dramatic reactions that others. This is causing, the human mental
system to fail to comprehend the modern world, (2). This can also be related to some
of the key concepts written about in the book Ishmael. Ishmael, who is one of the
main characters in the book says that humans have been told a story, and that it has
been taught to us without us even consciously realizing it. Ishmael says that,
everyone knows it, and everyone accepts it without question , (40). In this situation,
we aren t aware of what is being taught to us. We aren t choosing what to learn
Critique Of The Theories Of Muslimness
Critique of the Theories of Muslimness
In this section the aim is to investigate the theories of Muslimness, accusation of
unbelief and apostasy. Since, the accusation of unbelief has both theoretical and
practical problems in the history of Muslim cultures, it will be presented from the
perspective of rational reason and scriptural reason. On the one hand, the problem of
Muslimness and accusation of unbelief is based on the view of the majority of
Muslim scholars, on the other hand, this issue have always been risky consequences
and is still continuing in the present days, which bring insecurity in the modern days
in both Islamic countries and non Muslim lands.

It is mentioned in another passage of the Qur an that There shall be no compulsion
in [acceptance of] the religion (2:256). Some hadiths that have also been prohibited
the Muslim from the accusation of unbelief towards, other Muslim. If a Muslim

In contrary to these verses, there are some other verses about apostasy and unbelief
that different sects of Muslim have distinguished interpretation. Based on their

impact of this performance can be found at schism, violence, religious cleansing
and terrorist attack in both Muslim lands and at the global level. It also has been
affected to issue legal opinions (fatwa) and the Islamic law by religious scholars (

Krebs In Soldier s Home

didn t like having a conversation that had anything to do with the war, then when
he felt like talking about it no one wanted to listen. Too many stories have been
heard for anybody to care. Krebs thought that the only way to be heard was by
spreading lies. Krebs wanted a girl, but he didn t want one bad enough to work for
one. The marines taught him that no one really needs a girl, especially if he had to

often took people to look at properties in his family motor car that he always kept

that is until his mother and father talked it over one night. His mother worries for
her son s future. Everyone in Krebs age was determined in having a good future.

Beauty talk was launched in September 2010. As more and more people started
shopping online, beauty talk became important. I feel that it was wise to create
Beauty Talk as a separate social platform to facebook because it connected the
company with its beauty insiders, future customers and its clients. It became a
central place where clients could anonymously ask personal questions and get

Also with beauty talk, Sephora could recognize its Superusers people who

Many anti gay people use the argument that if gay marriage was made legal, other
changes such as allowing muliple wives, would have to be made. However this is
proven wrong, as seen in the countries who have already legalised gay marriage have
not experience those reprecussions.
The Catholic Church is strongly opposed to legalising gay marriage in Australia.
Acoording to the Don t mess with marriage report A Pastoral Letter from the Catholic
Bishops of Australia to all Australians onthe Same sex MarriageDebate, their
definition of marriage is that it involves a substantial bodily and spiritual union of a
man and a woman. The Church believes this union is centred around and ordered
not only to the wellbeing of the spouses but also towards the generation and
wellbeing of children. However it has been found that people in same sex couples
are more highly educated and are more likely to be in highly skilled occupations than
people in heterosexual couples. In measures of general health and family cohesion
children aged 5 to 17 years with same sex attracted parents had significantly better

Coming Of Age Throughout Mississippi, By Anne Moody
Being born into a racially divided society, such as America during slavery and the
decades after the Civil War, does not mean that you are born with the knowledge of
racism. Racism is something that we are not born with and that we are raised to
experience, follow, or fix. During the 19th century and all the way up till mid 20th
century, racism was one of the biggest issues in America. Former slaves and
anyone who had lived in America for some time, was aware of the racial tension
that traveled through the heart of the nation and only got worse the more south
you go. In Anne Moody s autobiography, Coming of Age in Mississippi, Moody s
life is told through her eyes. It goes through her childhood until her participation in
the Civil Rights movement. One of the major parts in the book is her slowly
realizing the racial divide in America and the disadvantages that her skin color had
come with. All the racism Moody experienced as a child until she was an
adolescent led to her decision to become part of the Civil Rights movement.
Growing up in rural Mississippi was a childhood filled with racism, segregation,
and intimidation. These came with every childhood, black or white. Growing up in
rural Mississippi as a black child just added more complications like disadvantages,
lower quality of life, the risk of being lynched, and many more horrors. This was the
reality for Anne Moody. Anne Moody was a young, black girl who grew up living
with her father, mother and younger siblings.
Physical Activity And A Child s Academic Achievement
ABSTRACT It s a well known fact that physical activity and being healthy leads to a
positive lifestyle. There have been numerous debates about the relationship between
physical activity and a child s academic achievement. In 1947 to 2009, 59 studies
were used for the comprehensive, quantitative synthesis of literature (pg. 521) for
data analysis. The results of the meta analysisshowed, a positive relationship between
physical activity on student s academics and cognitive outcomes. (pg.521) Many
other factors affected the relationship and other methods to improve student s
academics and school policy. Introduction Physical education is no longer an
important topic in elementary schools compared to other subjects such as math,
science or language arts which have resulted in physical education being cut and
replaced with more instructional time. Physical education is limited in the
educational system due to legislative pushing towards more academic testing, which
means additional instructional time and little time for physical activities. Children
are recommended 30 60 minutes of physical activity per day, but some kids only
receive physical activity during school hours and after school children are not as
active which has resulted in sedentary activity and an increase in childhood obesity.
Obesity and health related issues have increased among children who have led to
numerous research studies on the effects of physical activity and academic
performance in children.
Cari s Story Essay
Cari s Story
A.) How could an infection in Cari s nasal passages and pharynx spread into her
sinuses? The infection in Cari s nasal passages and pharynx was able to spread into
her sinuses due to the sinuses being a drainage area for the nasal passages. B.) What
is the couch reflex? Describe the process that Cari s respiratory system is using to
clear her lungs by coughing. The cough reflex is used to clear sputum and irritants
that are in the nasal passages and pharynx. There are cilia in her trachea that is
moving mucus up from the lungs. When the mucus becomes abundant, it triggers the
cough reflex.

How do these clinical findings relate to the internal respiration in Cari s body? These
findings conclude that because the P02 is low, the hemoglobin in Cari s blood is only
being partially saturated.
I.) Which of the symptoms Cari has described are due to lack of oxygen and reduced
oxygen exchange at her tissues? Cari s symptom of panting like a dog , not be able
to catch her breath, and c/o chest pain are due to the lack of oxygen and reduces in
oxygen exchange at her tissues.
J.) As Cari s Pco2 and alkaline blood pH rose, how was the oxygen carrying
capacity of hemoglobin affected? As Pco2 rises, hemoglobin releases O2 more
readily. Thus, an increased Pco2 produces a more acidic environment, which helps
release O2 from hemoglobin.
K.) How would you have expected Cari s decreased Pco2 and alkaline blood pH to
have affected her breathing? As acidity increases (pH decreases), it enhances the
unloading of oxygen from hemoglobin.
L.) How would administration of oxygen enhance Cari s central drive to breathe?
M.) Which anatomical structures in Cari s respiratory systems were initially
involved? Nasal passages, lungs, and larynx
N.) Why was Cari plagued with a chronic smoker s cough? Because the mucus had

Witch Of Edmonton
The Witch of Edmonton, written in 1621 by John Ford, Thomas Dekker and
William Rowley, depicts an old and lonely woman, Elizabeth Sawyer, whose false
reputation as a witch drives her to utilize the devil s power and take her revenge on
those who made her do so. The story is based on the real historical figure of
Elizabeth Sawyer, a woman who was put to death for witchcraftin 1621. The case of
Sawyer, as portrayed in both the play and her true interrogation, proves, in multiple
ways, how the underlying cause of witchcraft is the selfish desire for power. Not
only does Elizabeth Sawyer herself emit this desire for power through her prideful
need for revenge, but the villagers of Edmonton also emit this desire for power
through their use... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is not to say that villagers simply created the myth of witchcraft on the spot as
a means of obtaining a scapegoat, but, rather, that they latched onto rumours,
morphed from old folklore and spread about the village, of witches that would
cause misfortune to their neighbours. This is exactly the kind of behaviour we see
in the play, as the villagers of Edmonton use the accusation of witchcraft in order to
wield power, not only over Sawyer herself, but over the events in their village
which they wish to prevent. The villagers appear to have known that Sawyer is a
witch for some time, but it is not until a villager blames her for their misfortunes,
that others speak out and claim that she has wronged them, too. For example,
towards the end of the play, Old Banks claims that his horse has become suddenly
ill, and says and this, I ll take my death upon t, is long of this jadish witch Mother
Sawyer. A countryman then speaks out, and claims that he found his wife and a
serving man thrashing in [his] barn together such corn as country wenches carry to
market , which he reasons must also be the work of

The Scarlet Letter Essay Prompts.pdf

  • 1. The Scarlet Letter Essay Prompts Composing an essay on "The Scarlet Letter Essay Prompts" poses a considerable challenge that requires a delicate balance of literary analysis, historical context, and critical thinking. The prompts associated with Nathaniel Hawthorne's classic work are multifaceted, demanding a nuanced exploration of characters, themes, and symbolism. Firstly, delving into the intricacies of the characters in "The Scarlet Letter" demands a deep understanding of their motives, conflicts, and evolutions throughout the narrative. Crafting insightful analyses of Hester Prynne's resilience, Reverend Dimmesdale's internal struggles, and the enigmatic Pearl requires a keen eye for detail and a profound connection to the text. Moreover, addressing the themes embedded in the novel requires the ability to navigate through complex societal issues such as sin, guilt, and redemption. Unraveling the layers of symbolism, like the scarlet letter itself, the scaffold, and the forest, adds an additional layer of complexity to the task. Consideration of the historical context is indispensable, as Hawthorne's work is deeply rooted in the Puritanical society of 17th-century New England. The writer must skillfully integrate historical insights into their essay, highlighting the impact of Puritan beliefs on characters and plot developments. Furthermore, successful essays on this topic necessitate a critical examination of Hawthorne's narrative techniques, exploring the use of symbolism, allegory, and irony. Developing a coherent and compelling argument while navigating these literary devices requires a high level of analytical prowess. In conclusion, tackling an essay on "The Scarlet Letter Essay Prompts" demands a comprehensive understanding of the novel's characters, themes, and historical context. It challenges writers to synthesize literary analysis with historical insight, all while maintaining a critical lens. Only with a meticulous approach can one successfully navigate the complexities of this literary masterpiece. • 2. The Equal Pay Act Of The United States Introduction During the early history in America women were deprived of some of the many rights given to the male citizens. It has almost been a century since women were awarded the right to vote in the United States. It s been half a century after the Equal Pay Act was established. The Equal Pay act led to a reduction in the wage gap, but wage differences based on sex persist (Korgen Giraffe, 2015). Sadly, there is still a lot of prejudice towards women in the workplace. Bigotry towards women in the workplace has been dominant through the years. Many perceive women as being weak and not able to effectively provide their leadership duties in their workplaces due to their emotions (weaker sex). Positions in leadership are often given ... Many women grew to appreciate the benefits of working outside the home. As businesses created white collar positions in the 1950s, women were steered toward what became known as pink collar jobs. В¬Pink collar workers are those employed in service sector jobs considered to be women s work, such as secretaries, receptionists, nurses, elementary school teachers, airline flight attendants, restaurant workers, and beauty salon operators ( Korgen Giraffe, 2015). Why Women in Leadership Women often take an alternative approach to leading teams encouraging more open discussion, cultivating talent and sharing credit. Feedback is the place where women bosses may add the most value (Meers, 2009). Like I stated before, women are viewed as the weaker sex. But after doing some research I have found that many employees would rather have a female as their employer. Listed below are five main reasons: Better communicators In order to be an effective leader one must communicate effectively. Better community builders The best leaders are learning to lead through the power that comes from building alliances instead of competing. Stronger business ethics Women in leadership roles tend to acknowledge and consider the rights of others in the search of fairness. More patience Women are known for having more patience in general. Ever since LEGO started experiencing double digit annual sales growth, (by launching new toy games, branded theme parks, entering the video game sector, introducing mobile applications, introducing toys for girls, etc.) they realized they needed a model that was standardized, modular and scalable. When studying imperialism, many people think of imperialism as the well known traditional British imperialism in Africa. However, William Appleman Williams argues in his book, The Tragedy of American Diplomacy, that the U.S. formed a new type of imperialism in the 20th century, which was unique to that of traditional British imperialism because the U.S. used economic, diplomatic, and military means to further their expansion throughout the world. Those affected with thalassemia experience irregular hemoglobin formation. The symptoms of the disorder have varying indications, which depend on the specific type of thalassemia. A common trait of the disease is mild to severe anemia. Thalassemia is an inherited disease. The disease is observed under two main types О± and ОІ thalassemia. The cause of the hemoglobin disorder is hereditary. Both types of thalassemia are autosomal recessive diseases. Adult hemoglobin is made up of four protein chains. The four chains are made up of two О± and two ОІ chains. In patients with thalassemia, one can observe deficiencies in either the alpha or beta chain. These defects cause the body to produce irregular red bloodcells. О± thalassemia is most prevalent in people of African descent. This is because the deletion of a О± locus that is responsible for О± thalassemia is more commonly observed in people of African descent. Alpha thalassemia in patients is correlated to deletion of the 16p chromosome, which is the chromosome where you can find genes that О± globin chains are encoded on. This deletion produces a drop in the production of alpha globin. This reduction of alpha globin causes irregularities in the hemoglobin of the patient. There are some days that I want to forget because I hated what I did that day, also, there are some days in Columbia that I will never forget. For example, the day I moved was one of the best days of my life because now I don t need to share a room with my brother. Also, seeing all the stuff we have had in his garage that we have had for 14 years. When I was looking at all those stuff it reminded me how special our old house was. One of my personal favorites was when I was in 5th grade. At my school we had something called Safety patrol, and that is where we come before and after school to tell the K 4 to stop running and to walk to the playground or the bus. Usually, after school, I would go to my aunt s work and it would be the best time. I got to see all the different things she does. She gets to see people at the hospital, which I got to do 1 time and the patient was the nicest in the world. She gave me 10 dollars to buy food of my choice and I got a cheeseburger and fries for lunch. Since my aunt and my mom work at the hospital usually after about 20 minutes I would go over to my mom s office and go and finish my homework. Then I and my mom would go home. this really reflected on my life because after going home I learned that even though people are not as safe as other people we can still help them in certain ways. • 23. Blame Colonialism In Africa Blame colonialism for Africa s lack of development. Africa s lack of development can be attributed to its history of colonialism and imperialism. In the late 1400 s wealth hungry traders arrived from all over Europe Belgium, France, Germany, Portugal, Spain, Italy, and the United Kingdomand started their colonial practices. They set up trading posts in Africa, with a special interest in coastal regions. European traders raided towns and instigated slavery. A profusion of disease and starvation hit Africa during the initiation of its colonization. European traders also looked to exploit Africa s abundant raw materials. European missionaries infiltrated Africa to convert the locals to Christianity and hoped to instill European customs and ideologies, which in turn destroyed African traditions and religion. U.S. and European colonizing leaders negotiated how to split up the continent, without consent from African natives. This produced increased African inter ethnic group tension and aggression, which paved the path for future socio political and cultural conflicts in African countries. By the late 1800 s, European culture was assimilated by the African population. Europeans had split up most of the continental territory by the late 1880s and between 1884 and 1885, European representatives created codes for annexing territory as a method to stop competition for African colonies. (Booker, 2015) The officer must have probable causeunder any circumstances that would lead a reasonable man to believe that it is more likely than not a certain individual has committed or is committing an absolute crime. Officers may search vehicles when there is probable cause to believe that contraband or evidence of a crime is present in the vehicle. The vehicles need only to show inherent mobility rather than actual mobility. The search can be made immediately or delayed as long as probable cause existed even if the vehicle has been impounded and immobilized. An officer may search in any place that the object of the search may reasonably be found. This includes locked containers. Probable cause must be item specific. Probable cause for arrestis not probable cause for a search. Probable cause for a warrantless vehicle search has to be just as sufficient as probable cause to support

These two parties are similar, but their policies and philosophies hold diversities. The Populists party comprises of farmers and poor whites in the south; they focus on eastern interests i.e. railroads and banks. The Populists also call for government action, to intervene and to create an efficient society which includes a flourishing middle class. The Progressives include educated middle class men and men of universities, they too demanded for reform, but accomplish their goals through legislation and the judicial system. The Progressives focused on reform as well as destroying the Robber Barons. Some Progressives were actually a part of the Populist Party; they weren t contradictory parties. To simplify the matter The Populist party held picnics in order to present discussions, while the Progressives hold educated and sophisticated men of great esteem who were much more formal. The Populist Party was the people s party, hence the name Populist, the party was created in the late 1800s when the Southern Famer alliance contacted Powderly, the head of The Knights of Labor. • 27. The Responsibilities of the Federal Reserve Congress has handed over the responsibility for monetary to the Federal Reserve, also known as the Fed, but retains oversight responsibilities in order to ensure that the Federal Reserve adheres to the statutory mandate of stable prices, moderate long term rates of interest, as well as, maximum employment (Labonte, 2014). The responsibilities of the Fed as the country s central bankare classified into four: monetary policy, supervision of particular types of banks and financial institutions for soundness and safety, provision of emergency liquidity through the function of the lender of last resort, and the provision of services of the payment system to financial institutions, as well as, the government (Labonte, 2014). The monetary role of the Federal Reserve necessitates aggregate demand management. The Federal Reserve defines monetary policy as the measures it undertakes in order to influence the cost and availability of credit and money to enhance the objectives mandated by Congress, which is maximum sustainable employment and a stable price level (Appelbaum, 2014). Since the expectations of businesses as capital goods purchasers and households as consumers exert an essential influence on the main section of spending in America, and the expectations are influenced in essential ways by the Federal Reserve s actions, a wider definition would involve the policies, directives, forecasts of the economy, statements, and other actions by the Federal Reserve, particularly those

From our biological makeup and how it affects us (nature), to how we were brought up and raised and how that shapes us (nurture). All of the topics that we have covered so far all have somewhat to do with one another. The main idea from part 1 of this class has to do with the different things that have made us humans, into who we are today not only as individuals, but as a culture(and sub cultures). To understand how this works, you need to first look at our biological makeup. From the reading The Threat Within The Triumph, the author discusses the idea of a caricature . He says that, our caricature emphasizes the dramatic and distinctive features of events , (3). This relates to our bodies nervous system because our nervous system picks and chooses what and how we will react to a stimulus. Some things have more dramatic reactions that others. This is causing, the human mental system to fail to comprehend the modern world, (2). This can also be related to some of the key concepts written about in the book Ishmael. Ishmael, who is one of the main characters in the book says that humans have been told a story, and that it has been taught to us without us even consciously realizing it. Ishmael says that, everyone knows it, and everyone accepts it without question , (40). In this situation, we aren t aware of what is being taught to us. We aren t choosing what to learn

Coming Of Age Throughout Mississippi, By Anne Moody Being born into a racially divided society, such as America during slavery and the decades after the Civil War, does not mean that you are born with the knowledge of racism. Racism is something that we are not born with and that we are raised to experience, follow, or fix. During the 19th century and all the way up till mid 20th century, racism was one of the biggest issues in America. Former slaves and anyone who had lived in America for some time, was aware of the racial tension that traveled through the heart of the nation and only got worse the more south you go. In Anne Moody s autobiography, Coming of Age in Mississippi, Moody s life is told through her eyes. It goes through her childhood until her participation in the Civil Rights movement. One of the major parts in the book is her slowly realizing the racial divide in America and the disadvantages that her skin color had come with. All the racism Moody experienced as a child until she was an adolescent led to her decision to become part of the Civil Rights movement. Growing up in rural Mississippi was a childhood filled with racism, segregation, and intimidation. These came with every childhood, black or white. Growing up in rural Mississippi as a black child just added more complications like disadvantages, lower quality of life, the risk of being lynched, and many more horrors. This was the reality for Anne Moody. Anne Moody was a young, black girl who grew up living with her father, mother and younger siblings.

(pg.521) Many other factors affected the relationship and other methods to improve student s academics and school policy. Introduction Physical education is no longer an important topic in elementary schools compared to other subjects such as math, science or language arts which have resulted in physical education being cut and replaced with more instructional time. Physical education is limited in the educational system due to legislative pushing towards more academic testing, which means additional instructional time and little time for physical activities. Children are recommended 30 60 minutes of physical activity per day, but some kids only receive physical activity during school hours and after school children are not as active which has resulted in sedentary activity and an increase in childhood obesity. Obesity and health related issues have increased among children who have led to numerous research studies on the effects of physical activity and academic performance in children.

Witch Of Edmonton The Witch of Edmonton, written in 1621 by John Ford, Thomas Dekker and William Rowley, depicts an old and lonely woman, Elizabeth Sawyer, whose false reputation as a witch drives her to utilize the devil s power and take her revenge on those who made her do so. The story is based on the real historical figure of Elizabeth Sawyer, a woman who was put to death for witchcraftin 1621. The case of Sawyer, as portrayed in both the play and her true interrogation, proves, in multiple ways, how the underlying cause of witchcraft is the selfish desire for power. This is not to say that villagers simply created the myth of witchcraft on the spot as a means of obtaining a scapegoat, but, rather, that they latched onto rumours, morphed from old folklore and spread about the village, of witches that would cause misfortune to their neighbours. This is exactly the kind of behaviour we see in the play, as the villagers of Edmonton use the accusation of witchcraft in order to wield power, not only over Sawyer herself, but over the events in their village which they wish to prevent. The villagers appear to have known that Sawyer is a witch for some time, but it is not until a villager blames her for their misfortunes, that others speak out and claim that she has wronged them, too. For example, towards the end of the play, Old Banks claims that his horse has become suddenly ill, and says and this, I ll take my death upon t, is long of this jadish witch Mother Sawyer.
