Essay On Journalism
Writing an essay on the topic of journalism can be both challenging and rewarding. Journalism is
a multifaceted field that encompasses a wide range of aspects, including the principles of
reporting, the role of media in society, ethical considerations, and the evolving landscape of
digital journalism. The difficulty lies not only in presenting factual information but also in
critically analyzing and interpreting it.
One of the challenges is navigating through the vast history and evolution of journalism.
Understanding the transition from traditional print journalism to the digital era is crucial.
Addressing the impact of technology on news dissemination and the challenges faced by
journalists in the age of social media adds another layer of complexity.
Moreover, discussing the ethical considerations in journalism demands a nuanced approach.
Balancing the freedom of the press with the responsibility to report accurately and fairly requires
careful consideration. Addressing issues such as bias, sensationalism, and the role of media in
shaping public opinion adds depth to the essay.
Another hurdle is the ever-changing nature of journalism. New trends, technologies, and issues
constantly emerge, requiring the writer to stay updated with the latest developments. Analyzing
the current state of journalism and predicting its future trajectory involves a certain degree of
speculation, adding an element of unpredictability to the essay.
Despite these challenges, writing an essay on journalism provides an opportunity for personal
growth and intellectual exploration. It encourages the writer to delve into critical thinking,
research skills, and the ability to articulate complex ideas. Crafting a compelling essay requires
not only a strong command of language but also a deep understanding of the subject matter.
In conclusion, tackling the topic of journalism in an essay is no easy feat. It involves navigating a
dynamic field with a rich history, addressing ethical considerations, and staying abreast of
current developments. However, the process of grappling with these challenges can be
intellectually stimulating and rewarding. It's an opportunity to explore the multifaceted nature of
journalism and contribute to the ongoing discourse in the field.

Case Study Of Genting
Much of Genting s success was due to its monopoly position as the sole casino owner
in Malaysia. The increasingly conservative mood of the Muslim population in the
country made it unlikely that new challengers would appear in the domestic market.
However, that same shift in religious sentiment raised the possibility that Genting s
own license might one day be withdrawn. At the same time, Genting faced new
competition elsewhere in the region, as a number of neighboring countries began
authorizing the construction of casinos. Genting took a multifaceted approach to
confronting this situation. On the one hand, the company continued redeveloping the
resort site itself away from its earlier emphasis on its casino operation to expand

The company began operating casino cruises in southeast Asia, building up a fleet of
18 ships with more than 23,000 beds. By the end of the decade, Star Cruise was
already the Asia Pacific region s largest cruise operator. The acquisition of NCL
Holdings and its Miami, Florida based Norwegian Cruise Lines in 2000, helped
position the company as one of the world s top three cruise line operators. Genting
also began expanding its hospitality operations into other markets, acquiring casino
management and development contracts in such markets as Australia, the Bahamas,
and the Philippines. The company also launched a new Property division, conducted
through subsidiary Asiatic Indahpura, which began developing a 6,800 acre landsite
in Kulai, Johor. Genting increasingly sought to expand its international holdings,
while at the same time seeking to buttress its reliance on the more volatile tourism
market with an extension into other industries. This effort was led in large part by
Lim s son, Lim Kok Thay. In 1994, the company launched a new Paper Packaging
division through the creation of Genting International Paper holdings Ltd. and the
acquisition of the Sanyen paper mill in Kuala Langat, the country s largest brown
grade paper manufacturer. In 1998, the company expanded that operation
downstream, launching production of corrugated packaging. The new subsidiary was
then renamed the Genting Sanyen

The Rabbinic Age of Judaism
The banishment and exile of Jews from the ancient Kingdom Judah to Babylon
resulted in dramatic changes to Jewish culture and religion. This allowed the
circumstances for the development of various sects, each of which claimed exclusive
authority to represent Judaism ; marriage with members of other sects is forbidden.
Although priests controlled the rituals of the Temple, the scribes and sages, later
called rabbis dominated the study of the Torah. These sages identified with the
Prophets and developed and maintained an oral tradition that they believed had
originated at Mount Sinai. The Pharisees had its origins in this new system.

This clarified the status of those common areas as a private domain relative to the
members of the bond. In that manner people could carry objects from building to
building. The Pharisees were innovators in that they enacted specific laws as they
saw necessary, according to the needs of the time.
Of all the major Second Temple sects, only the Pharisees believed with teachings
directed to all Jews, they could transform Temple worship. Such teachings extended
beyond ritual practices. Regardless of the importance they gave to the Temple, the
Pharisees vision of Jewish law was a means by which ordinary people could engage
with the blessings in their daily lives. Also, they wanted to grant them a position from
which to respond to challenges in a way meaningful to the vast majority of Jews.
Their responses would constitute Rabbinic Judaism.
After the destruction of the Second Temple, these sect divisions ended. The Rabbis
avoided the term Pharisee . The Rabbis claimed leadership over all Jews, and
added to the Amidah the birkat haMinim, a prayer which in part exclaims, Praised
are You O Lord, who breaks enemies and defeats the arrogant, and which is
understood as a rejection of sectarians and sectarianism. This shift by no means
resolved conflicts over the interpretation of the Torah; rather, it relocated debates
between sects to debates within Rabbinic Judaism. The Rabbinic Era itself is divided

Battle Of Gettysburg Analysis
Multiple factors were vital in determining the outcome of the Battle of Gettysburg in
which the Confederate States of America suffered a defeat of numerous casualties.
The lack of communication among the officers of the army may be attributed to the
defeat as due to the confusion and insufficient information allowed for the Union
army to gain an advantage. With the disappearance of General J. E. B. Stuart, the
movements of the Union army or the geography of the surrounding area was
unknown the Confederates, information that led to the loss of time as well as men.
Consequently, strategic planning is proven to be a difficult feat for general of the
army, Robert E. Lee, who uncertainty in his battle tactics due to the lack of

Atlantic Structure Of The Triangular Trade
At the point when the vessel arrived in the Americas, generally some spot in the
Caribbean, the slaves were purged, and sold to be used as specialists on significant
farms. The money the water crafts got from slaves was used to purchase the agrarian
things that the slaves were truly assembling; things like tobacco, molasses, and sugar.
Those unrefined things from the Americas were sent to Europe, the third leg of the
triangular trade, where Europeans arranged the rough supplies and made finished
things. This entire voyage took around twelve weeks.
The Principle Atlantic structure implies the sixteenth century period in which
Portuguese merchants summoned the West African slave trade supplying Spanish

some Dutch, English, and French merchants furthermore took an enthusiasm for the

Periodontics Personal Statement
STATEMENT OF PURPOSE
When a procedure as basic as scaling and root planning and the sight of reduced
post operative inflammation seeing the gingiva turn to a benign pink from red
gives you a sense of fulfillment and satisfaction that is incomparable, you know
that being a Periodontist is everything you have ever wanted. Holding a scalpel,
incising the gingival and periodontal tissues and raising a flap almost perfectly for
the very first time, is perhaps one of the most exhilarating experiences I have ever
had and, at the risk of sounding too dramatic, the clockwise and anti clockwise
turning of the wrist during suturing is nothing short of sheer poetry in motion to me.
As a teenager, I read Doctors by Erich Segal and instantly, my love for medical
sciences was born. Though, I was certain that I wanted to pursue a career in health
sciences, dentistry was not always what I had in mind for a career. But it was my

How Does Stockett Present Racism In The Help
The novel, The Help by Kathryn Stockett is an exploration of the ways in which
the main theme of racism and symbols of discrimination pervaded every aspect of
human life within the 1960s. The symbol of the toilets symbolizes all the flaws in
society, specifically in relation to segregation in this era, while sparking Skeeter s
motivation to impact the public eye of race. Bathrooms are one of the most
persistent motifs in the novel as well. This starts with Hilly s Home Help Sanitation
Initiative, which requires all white families to have a second bathroom for the use of
their colored maids. Another symbol includes Minny, being famous for her great
skill at cooking, and in particular, for her delicious pies. The recurring motif of pies

Toilets and bathrooms are used to symbolize all that is wrong with the society
depicted in the novel. They are also there to symbolize the dirtiness of the tactics
used to maintain a racist status quo in the Mississippi community in the 1960s.
Despite the fact that Minny is increasingly well known for her pies, she uses her
baking skills to her advantage in order to get revenge upon Hilly. By doing so
Minny receives a feeling of empowerment against Hilly and successfully proves her
wrong against the claim that all African American individuals carry unique diseases.
It has also been suggested that women might be more of a threat towards black people
than men would be a white man will use violence, but a white woman will ruin
your life. This statement becomes true when Hilly uses negative tools in order to
punish Minny after accusing her of thievery. Aibileen often refers to the bitter seed
that began to grow inside of her after the death of her son Treelore. The seed makes
Aibileen less accepting of the white women who treat her like a lesser human being,
and she often feels the seed growing every time a white woman humiliates or
degrades her. The individuals with privilege in this novel must realize that they are
given an unfair amount of power and should use that power not to maintain their
status quo but to help others who have their voices silenced by society. Although each
one of the help undergo the pretentiousness of the white woman of the South, it is
demonstrated that no matter how anyone is treated or how dark a person s life
seems, there is hope. Hope that things will change and hope that you can help make

Analysis Of Miracle By Tope Folarin
To many, miracles are a very real phenomenon, and many people adamantly believe
that miracles are performed every day. While there are many interpretations of what
a miracle may be, the short story Miracle, by Tope Folarin, puts the concept in a
distinct context. The story details the experience of a boy being a skeptical
participant in a miracle in a Nigerian church. The story is multifaceted in that it
addresses multiple power dynamics using various details, however, the main conflict
is between the traditional beliefs of the older church members and the skepticism of
the youth. Ultimately, Folarin argues that miraclesare not supernaturalevents that
instantly change lives, rather they are circumstantial and are realized over time as
a result of perseverance. To do so, Folarin uses literary devices such as
characterization of the members of the church, situational irony, and setting.
Miracle details the story of a boy being part of a miracle in a Nigerian church. He
begins by describing certain rituals of the church, such as a prayer and performing
Nigerian songs. Eventually, a short, blind old man described as a prophet reaches
the pulpit. Most people at the church were Nigerian immigrants looking for
miracles, and believed he could perform them. He promises the members of the
church that they will receive powerful blessings so long as they are faithful (Folarin
75). He then calls the boy to the pulpit, declaring that he will cure his sight so that he

Elizabethan Clothes and Costumes
The people who lived during the Elizabethan Era were not allowed to wear
whatever they like or desired. Their Fashion choices had to be followed by a strict
law! The English people chose to establish social classes by the colors they wore
and this had an affect on costumes used in theatre. Queen Elizabeth I followed the
sumptuary laws, which was only certain classes were consent to wear specific
fabric and colors. Therefore in plays the actors could only wear certain colors for
their costumes that displayed what role and class their character was in. The clothes
worn during this era was a result of Queen Elizabeth s sumptuary laws, which had an
affect on costumes used in plays, and each color a person wore had a significant

Everyone who lived during the Elizabethan Era knew these laws and failure to follow
them resulted in fines, lose of property, title, and life (Elizabethan Costume). Since in
English society clothing was a huge factor it ended up affecting costumes that were
used in theatre. Next, actors had to abide by the sumptuary laws even while
performing on stage. Therefore the second a performer walked onto the stage the
audience could tell their role in the play just by looking at the color of the
costume. The Material and Fabric also had a similar effect, the audience could tell
what class the character was in by the quality of their costume and also it gave
important information on that individual s role (Elizabethan Actors). Queen
Elizabeth I had to give actors special licenses to wear upper class clothes to fit their
character or position (Globe Theatre Costume). When nobility or upper class
people would come to see a play they would say it was like a double fashion show.
The fabric and color of a person s garments represented different pieces of
information about them and since clothing was part of society and law everyone
knew what the color or material meant. Lastly, each color, during this era, had a
meaning and also represented which class a person was in. Elizabethan clothing,
material, and fabrics used in Elizabethan Era was extremely important because
clothes represented more than just how you looked it demonstrated your

Use Of Forecasting Techniques For The Graduate Tuition...
This paper seeks to examine the use of forecasting techniques as it applies to the
graduate tuition rate at James Madison University. While several methods and
techniques of forecasting could have been used, I focused primarily on the Least
Squares Regression technique, as it relates to projections, to project the rates for the
next ten years. Projected rates were slightly comparable to actual rates, though, other
techniques are not assumed to reduce the error of projected graduate tuition rates.
James Madison University is a comprehensive university in the Shenandoah Valley
of Harrisonburg Rockingham County, Virginia. Since it s start in 1954, the
graduate school has focused its efforts on the education of its students at a
reasonable cost. Although tuition has risen over the years, it can be assumed that
this is possibly due to the rising costs of operation. In recent years, 2009 2014, the
cost has increased by 34% ($305 to $410) for in state students. Similarly, there has
been an increase in out of state tuition by more than 20% ($890 $1095) since 2009.
Due to the rate increases over the past five years, I project that the cost will continue
to rise over the years.
The aim of our forecasting is to provide information about possible future changes in
tuition rates. In general, the three approaches to forecasting, projection, prediction,
and conjecture, all seek to produce information about future trends we expect to
examine in society; however, they do so in various
Asthma Attack
Are you an Asthmatic Patient ? An overview of asthma.
Tobacco smoke and environmental factor like carbon monoxide, sulfur dioxide, lead,
hydrogen cyanide, ammonia, cold, ozone, temperature variation, humidity and
nitrogen oxides are the leading cause of respiratory disorders. Smoke produce
irritation in pulmonary tract and other harmful pollutants implement bad effects to

Asthma is one of the pulmonary diseases and is characterized as an inflammation of

allergic individuals have higher risk of bronchial hyperactivity than non asthmatic

airways swelling and constriction when they come in contact with triggers such as
allergens, cigarette smoke and level of physical activity. In asthma patients, some
may have lenient symptoms while other may have critical and drastic symptoms.
Asthma affects people differently. Each trigger has different reaction to each

Objectives Of Playing Millionaire
Based on this case study, as stated earlier on, the objective of playing millionaire is
to own as much properties and gain profit by selling or renting it among the players.

the goal to drive them into bankruptcy. Therefore, there are three parameters that we

the propertyand going in and out of jail. These three parameters are all dependent with
each other.

There are three possible ways for the players to end up in jail which are : by
landing on the Go to Jail space, by drawing a Go to Jail Chance card or either by
rolling three doubles continuously. If a player is in jail, they do not take their
normal turn and must either pay a fine of RM50 to be released from jail, use a
Chance or Fate Get Out of Jail Free card , or they can try to roll doubles on the
dice. If the player fails to roll doubles they lose their turn. Failure to roll doubles in
their third turn will result in paying the RM50 fine to be released. Moreover, when
the player is in jail, they may not buy any property directly because they are
currently not moving around and does not land on any properties on the board.
Nevertheless, they may sell, trade and mortgage properties, purchase buildings, and
collect rents while they are in jail. If the player does roll doubles to exit jail, they
may immediately move according to the roll, but they cannot roll a second time after
exiting jail. Therefore, there are changes in probability to land upon the ideal
property if the players end up in

Cyrus the Great
Cyrus the Great Builds the Persian Empire by Governing With Toleration and
Kindness
The greatest leaders in history often leave behind some sort of legacy. Cyrus the
Great was the founder of the Persian Empire around 500 B.C., which was the largest
empire of its time (Cyrus II, the Great). The empire stretched from ancient Iran, and
grew to include an area reaching from Greece to India (Persian Empire). Cyrus
reign saw some of the first contacts between Persia and Greece, and helped Persia
gain the political power that had once been held by the people of Mesopotamia
(Cyrus, the Great). Cyrus the Great proved to be an effective leader who developed a

Persia took over the Medes kingdom, thus beginning the rise in power of the
Persian Empire. Cyrus established a new capital at Pasargadae to commemorate
his victory (Cyrus II, the Great). Cyrus was very ambitious, so he continued to
work on increasing his empire. In 547 B.C. he went to war against the wealthy
King Croesus of Lydia and defeated him at the Battle of Ptyerum. He went on to
capture the Greek city states along the coast of Anatolia. At this point Cyrus
empire was 3,000 miles wide, but Cyrus was most interested in capturing Babylon
because of the power and importance it represented. In 540 B.C., Cyrus set his
sights on Babylon, which had been his ally up to that time. The people of Babylon
were unhappy with King Nabonidus because he did not honor the God Marduk

Allegory In The Pardoners Tale
Allegory can be defined as an extended metaphor, a story that seems ordinary but
holds deeper meanings within. Allegory can be found in many pieces of literature,
such as the Canterbury tales, in particularly two tales: the wife of bath and the
pardoner s tale. Both tales are written by Geoffrey Chaucer who uses allegory to
convey a message. Chaucer indirectly discusses vices he apparently despises, sins
committed by humans that he opposes. They can also be injustices, oppressions to
certain groups of people at his time. Chaucer uses allegory in the wife of bath to
mock women and to show greed s consequences in the pardoners tale. The wife of
bath tells the story of a knight who in quest to answer the question what do women
want most? . The... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When the three friends set out to avenge their friend they find gold, and it blinds
them. It makes them forget about their friend and the avenging they only care for
the wealth and power this gold can give them. Not only does the gold set them off
track, it causes their death, in fact, greed is what causes their death. Although the
gold was a lot and it was plenty enough for each when they divide it, their greed
forced them to want more. Their desire for wealth forced to want to kill each other.
In the end they all end up dead, victims of their greed. Chaucer shows the reader
that mans greed and desire for power and wealth will have disastrous consequences,
in this case death. The irony in the pardoners tale is that the men set out to find
Death and they indeed find it, but have they found Death, the person. Although he is
of unclear identity, the old man can be interpreted as Death, or his form on earth. A
lot of mystery and unanswered questions concern the old man, however, from the
text the reader can hint that he is some form of Death. The old man is the one who
directed the men right to the gold and most likely knew what the men s fait was. In
general, the message Chaucer is trying to convey through his story is that greed is a
sin, and it causes horrible

The Virgin Of Guadalupe And La Virgen De Guadalupe
In the final resolution concerning religion, Chicanas declare, Revolutionary change
of [the] Catholic Church or for it to get out of the way. On the resolutions listed under
sexuality, Chicanas mention how they recognize their suppression under the Catholic
Church, how religion and culture control their sex lives, and the guilt complexes
pressured onto them when they challenge the institution. Each of these themes are
depicted through the cultural and religious symbol of the Virgin of Guadalupe. La
Virgen de Guadalupe or The Virgin of Guadalupe, the patron saint of Mexico,

The Virgin ordered Diego to collect Castilian roses around the hill and she helped
him arrange them into his cloak. On December 12 when Diego returned to the
Archbishop, he opened his tilmГЎtli or cloak in which the image of the Virgin
appeared. In response, the archbishop honored the Virgin s request and built an
altar in her honor. Today, The Basilica de Guadalupe in Tepeyac stands in
dedication to the Virgin s first appearance and remains the most visited Catholic
shrine. Because of the Virgin s Mexican history, she holds great significance to
Mexican Catholics, so it is no surprise why the Virgin remains inherent in Mexican
culture, or as literary scholar Debra J. Blake so aptly defined, Guadalupe equals
Mexico. Both men and women admire the Virgin, but her religious setting provides a
context for oppression through the church. NietoGomez explains how the church
utilized Guadalupe s image, Marianismo, the veneration of the Virgin Mary, became
the model of how to make oppression a religious obligation. This is the heritage of
the Chicana. The church created a patriarchal role for themselves by weaving the
Virgin s image as a pure mother to model ordinary women s behavior. By applying
this method through the guise of subjugation, the Church rationalized their need to
protect women in order to maintain their pure, moral status. Paradoxically, feminine
virtues expressed by the Virgin as to be employed by women represents many
contradictory elements. Debra
Creatine Literature Review
Literature Review: Creatine Supplementation
Introduction
Creatine is a natural substance that occurs in the body, it is also a supplement that has
been tested by numerus athletes over the years to see whether it has a positive effect
on performance. However, there is anecdotal evidence that suggests creatine
supplementation may be the cause of negative side effects such as dehydration, the
increase of muscle cramping and an increase in blood pressure. One way the
supplementation of creatine can improve performance is by aiding the resynthesise
ATP (Adenosine Triphosphate
) stores within the body in order to produce energy at
a quicker rate therefore the most common athletes to take creatine are high intensity
power athletes who are repeated actions multiple times. Such as those doing long
distance events such as cycling, swimming and running, it may also be used as a
way of recovery for sprinters. A study carried out by Kreider R.B et al. (1998)
concluded that there were increases in the performance of isotonic lifting and
sprinting during agility after taking creatine supplements. Although creatine has been
believed to help recovery, research undertaken by Stroud et al. (1994), would suggest
that there was no difference in the recovery periods. This review of literature will
examine as to whether creatine should be recommended to athletes based on current
research.

Faint Memories Of Visiting My Motherland
Faint memories of visiting my motherland linger in my thoughts and dreams. My
visit to Bangladesh was filled with celebrations, feasts, adventures, and treacherous
journeys! Many of these memories have been forgotten for several years. Faces
and locations lost in my head. Yet, it was on one of these perilous journeys that I
had discovered a treasure so grand, that it has been embedded in my thoughts ever
since. A treasure so grand that it couldn t be found anywhere else. A treasure so
valuable that it could never be taken elsewhere to be cherished forever.
My breath was frozen in the air as a dead silence surrounded me. A light fog
covered the muddy trail since I began my hike. The drizzling rain only added to the
gloomy and haggard feeling. My boots were pressed against the ground, slowly
sinking into the damp earth. The faint knocking of bamboo could be heard growing
louder. Someone or something was approaching me. Being the curious and careless
child I was, I left the trail to approach the patch of bamboo. The rugged terrain of the
trail pulled at my sore feet, and the wind whistled and whispered in my ears, as it was
warning me not to leave. But, I continued to trudge forward into the unknown. The
bamboo was bendy enough for my weak arms to push as I approached the knocking
noise. Slowly I took cautious steps to avoid the broken and fallen pieces of bamboo
scattered across the ground. As I was about to take my next step, a person s foot came
slamming down into the ground! I stumbled backward, crashing onto the ground!
Suddenly, a figure broke through the cluster of bamboo.
As I looked up, out stepped a figure familiar to me. It was my father! His confusion
expression became that of relief as he helped up from the ground. He told me to
follow him back to the trail he was on. My dad and I cut through the stalks of
bamboo once again until we reached a trail similar to previous. We continued to
follow the trail was a maze of lush greenery and foliage. The trail twisted and
curved. It was unknown to me, yet so familiar to my dad, I thought as I continued
hiking in amazement. Trees towered over us as the skyscrapers in the city would.
The trees were castles of wood protecting a hidden treasure. Flowers and
To Kill A Mockingbird Social Inequality Analysis
Essentially, the root of all problems stems from prejudiced situations, social
inequality is created by religious, ethnic and many other forms of discrimination.
Social inequality is defined as the existence of unequal opportunities and rewards
for different social positions or statuses within a group or society . In To Kill A
Mockingbird, by Harper Lee, specifically, it is created by racism, classism and
gender. Inequality factors into the course of the story in very evident ways
ultimately causing extreme injustice. Harper Lee s masterful novel exposes the dark
underbelly of society, a society overflowing with hate, narrow mindedness and
prejudice. This behaviour is deemed as natural, and few people question the roles put

The fourth principle is communication requirements. Communication is needed not
only to the customer, but also to the city and state officials that may require being
able to get land surveys, building permits and preparing return documents. The fifth
principle is decision making and responsibility. The applicant must be able to make
decisions and except the responsibility of a job. The applicant must be able to use the
appropriate method of plumbing to suit the job he or she is working on. Must be
able to fix any issue that may arise. While analyzing the job vacancy a position
analysis questionnaire will also be used. A position analysis questionnaire will
help dealing with the task requirements of the job and also job stressors. In order to
accomplish this I would use a four point Liken type scale with 4 meaning agree, 3
somewhat agree, 2 does not apply, and 1 for disagree. The questionnaire would
contain 25 items. There would be ten on job overload and job control. Then 15
items from the brief job stress questionnaire (BJSQ) on evaluate job stress. In order
to achieve the question used I would evaluate other employees with there consent
and ask for supervisors input as well. After constructing my job analysis and
comparing it to O*NET Online. I see that my job analysis was vague in comparison.
Using O*NET Online here are some things that I would include. Is the applicant able

The Family And Family Members Behavior
The very idea that the family and family members behavior can understood as
rational behavior may appear an oxymoron. Indeed, households are the situation of
extreme emotion, attachment, and even violence. Families are where many of the
seemingly irrational decisions of life are realized. For instance, it is currently
estimated that the costs of producing one child to the age of 18is about a fourth
part of a million bucks. Then we place our time, energy, and money in our
youngsters then they can get up and entrust us. That is considered parental
success. However, as an economic decision, how can this be considered a rational
alternative? Kids are clearly an economic liability, and the days when we could
reckon on them for care of elderly parents appears all but went away. Also, anyone
observing sibling fights or marital strife is usually appalled at the level of discourse
and terminology used.
The unpredictability of these interactions fails to indicate that these are rational
players.
Deterrence Theory
Two decades of research have failed to create coherent and compelling results that
arrest deters intimate partner violence. This tradition of research is reviewed,
concluding that little can be determined around the deterrent efficacy of arrest (or
other authorizations) for this type of violence until a more complete framework of
deterrence theory is set to guide further inquiry. The framework should delineate
mediating influences besides deterrence, linking arrest
Public Defender Case Summary
We have read in the news recently that there are plenty of public defenders who are
facing budget cuts and are in a financial crisis. This can be seen by a chief public
defender in New Orleans who has had to resort to turning clients away. The public
defender s office in New Orleans is understaffed, currently employing 42
overworked lawyers, in relation to the 72 attorneys and 20 investigators it employed
in 2008. These go against the standard set by the ABA Standards for Criminal Justice
and the ABA Guidelines for the Appointment and Performance of Counsel in Death
Penalty Cases. The National Standards point to the caseload maximus prescribed by

Theme Of A Worn Path
A Worn Path by Eudora Welty, written in 1941, is a short story about an elder, Negro
woman, Phoenix Jackson, traveling along a well worn path to an unknown
destination. As the title suggests, this is a path that she has taken many times. The
main theme represented in A Worn Path is that a person would endure and overcome
the forces of nature and society for those they love.
Eudora Welty introduces the character Phoenix Jackson in a way that illustrates that
Phoenix is a person who endures forces of nature and society; and the meaning of her
name is a large hint to the theme of endurance. William M. Jones introduces the idea
that Phoenix is a reference to the legendary bird that is reborn throughout time; one
that endures. In his literary critic, William M. Jones writes, The references at the
beginning of the story announce rather clearly that a comparison with the legendary
bird is intended. The similarity becoming more pronounced as the story progresses.
The reference to the bird of endurance can be seen throughout the story, especially
when the reader concludes that Phoenix does not remember why she is traveling the
path. Her loss of memory is a reference to the Phoenix dying; and at the end of the
story, Phoenix remembering her reason for the journey is a representation of being
reborn.
Welty s diction and the time period that the short storywas written also gives the
reader context into Phoenix s endurance of the wrath of society. Phoenix is described

Gender Roles And Social Issues In The Post-WWII Era
Every post war era in United States history is composed of a period of social
revolution. Ideas about gender roles and economic class change as the country
attempts to redefine itself and its morals in the wake of a devastating conflict.
Although the Great Depression was fifteen years removed from the First World
War, social issues of the time resemble the same issues that were pertinent in the
immediate post war era as well as American issues in the post WWII era. In a lot of
ways, they are still the issues we are facing nearly a century later. Many women
were forced to work during the war to supplement their husband s income while he
was deployed overseas but when he returned, their help was no longer needed or
desired. When the Great Depressionhit in 1929, women who were still in the
workplace or who sought jobs so that they could feed their families faced
accusations that their position in the workplace were preventing men from
obtaining jobs for their families. When the Depression ended and the United
States became involved in World War II, women were again forced to work to
supplement their husbands income, and yet again expected to leave the workforce
when men returned home from war. During the time period from 1932 1945,
social issues were addressed in film as both a moral boost during hard times and a
criticism of society. Gold Diggers of 1933 (1933) boosted the moral of moviegoers
during the Great Depression with its flashy costumes and dreams of being in the
Persuasive Speech About Peer Pressure
That sprint he just took might have just saved his life. He was muddled and
petrified at the fact that someone was forcing him to drink underage. That one sip
could have changed his life. He wouldn t be able to go to the Ivy League he dreamed
of. He wouldn t be able to play on his school soccer team. His whole life would have
been ruined because of one minuscule sip. But he was glad he ran. He was proud he
ran. And this run might have just saved his life. He knew how bad peer pressureis and
how to avoid it. All kids should be able to avoid it. Do you know what to do when
being peer pressured? Do you know how people feel when they are being peer
pressured? Well, you should because peer pressure is a serious thing and can affect
your life in many ways. But, it can also save your life in many ways.
You might have wondered if others have had the experience of being peer
pressured. They have. Whether it be as simple as your parents forcing you to eat
your broccoli at dinner or it could be as serious as someone forcing you to drink
alcohol under the legal age. Have you ever been peer pressured? How did it feel?
Peer pressure doesn t have to be negative though. There is also something called
positive peer pressure. Positive peer pressure is when your friends or someone
forces you to do something that will benefit you. Has your mom ever forced you to
go study for your next test? That is positive peer pressure. She is forcing you to do
something that will only benefit your well being. When it is negative peer pressure
though, you don t end up being proud of yourself in the end.
Parents should also help the kids out by telling them about peer pressure and
teaching them how to avoid it. According to David Herz, MD, a pediatrician at
Scripps Coastal Medical Center in San Diego, the parents should be able to talk to
the kids about peer pressure. In his article, it states It s also important to remember
that any conversations you have with children about alcohol, drugs or sex should
start well before the teen years. They should understand, early, the consequences of
bad behavior. That will reinforce these values when they really need them. When the

a fundamental catalyst in changing the course of history and the racism that plagued

He was raised in the Bronx, New York, from a Jewish family and as a Jewish
person dedicated to fairness and equality. Noting that many Jews were even
restricted from real estate and many privileges other white people as the majority
of Jews were would inherently have, Jack Greenberg established an underlying
notion in his autobiography that Jews were considered as an ethnicity and were
not really white. He lived first hand through segregation in the Deep South when
working hard on establishing protocols of fairness and decency through many
historic legal cases. Greenberg went as far as staying in the colored section of
segregated hotels, eating in the colored section of restaurants and essentially living
as a colored person to fully understand how degenerate the system of inequality was
in the South. He virtually stripped as many privileges he had as a white man besides
his obvious skin color. By doing so, he was able to sympathize with colored people,

Response Of The Human Cardiovascular System
The tilt study demonstrated the baroreflex response of the human cardiovascular
system to changes in posture. Expected decreases in BP, MAP, CO at 30 seconds
post tilt and immediate decreases in SV and TPR as seen in Figures 2, 4, 6 and Table
1 were observed. These decreases were due to increased pooling of bloodin the lower
limbs leading to lower venous return and subsequently decreasing flow out of the
heart. Furthermore, there was a reflexive response by the autonomic nervous system
in order to regain normal cardiovascular parameters mediated by the baroreceptors.
Going from supine to standing position induced changes in the hydrostatic
pressure experienced by the superior and inferior regions of the body. As tilt
occurred blood began to pool in highly distensible veins of the lower region.
Because of this pooling phenomena there was an expected reduction in venous
return to the heart and subsequently a reduced CO (Fig. 5) as seen 30 seconds post
tilt (Sherwood, 2013). This reduced CO exemplifies the Frank Starling Law of the
Heart which states that reduced venous return will result in reduced CO by the
heart (Sherwood, 2013). The Frank Starling Law can also explain lowered SV as
seen in Figure 4. The only explanation to why CO (a product of HR and SV) might
have increased in this experiment immediately after tilt was because HR (Fig. 1)
significantly increased at the same time in comparison to the small decrease in SV as
seen in Figure 4. MAP and BP decreases were
Kate Chopin Resourse
There are many ways that literature can show how people lived back in the day. In
every literary period, they each had their own taste in theme, conflict, and setting.
Many of these factors were based on the author s experiences and portrayals. Using
literature as a resourse, we can uncover what was the status of women in the early
twentieth century. By which they are one of the most well known minority groups in
America, even to this day.
In The Storm by Kate Chopin, there were a lot of elements that were modern for
the author s time. In fact, the sexual affair of Calixta and Alcee made the story be
published later than it was planned to be. However, the status of women of Chopin s
time can definitely be seen through the eyes of her female characters, Calixta and
Clarisse. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This might be due to how the reader [was] introduced first to Calixta s husband and
son (Titi) and then the next scene showing her sewing furiously on a sewing
machine...greatly occupied (Baym, Chopin). In constrast to Clarisse, there isn t
much said about her, however we are safe to assume her to be a hardworking wife
and mother as well.
Both of them married for their only chance they had to a respectable life (Titi).
However, they became miserable because Calixta did not marry the one she loved...
and Clarisse married...whom she loved but would prefer to be single (Titi). Their
situation was most likely due to their social class and gender. If Calixta was from a
higher social class like Alcee and Clarisse, she would have a better chance of
marrying Alcee. Also if Clarisse was a boy, she would not have been subjected into
marrying to be successful in life.
In The Snows of Kilimanjaro by Ernest Hemingway, the readers see more modernism
themes in comparison to The Storm . However Hemingway s main lead, Helen, has a
mixture of modern and traditional
Advantage And Disadvantage Of Ssdm
SSADM is an analysis and design methodology that follows a structural tactic for
Implementation of a system. In the beginning of 80th of the past century this method
was developed for government of Great Britain. In 1993 it was accepted as the
national standard of Great Britain and as a reason the SSADM usage is expedient for
those who work with governmental organizations and this method is a standard for
these organizations.
Unlike the conventional approach SSADM is DATA driven and data modeling
begins very early in the development of Information system. . SSADM may also
represent the document led approach to system design, and can be contrasts with
Rapid Application Development Method such as Dynamic System Development
Model (DSDM).
Assumptions are as follows:
* business methods change often
* IS processes will need to reflect changes
* Underlying data in the system changes very little ... Show more content on

Advantage of SSADM
Timelines: On the whole SSADM allows for the chance to plan, direct and control a
project well.
Usability: emphasizes the analysis of user requirements. Additionally system model
will be developed and a helpful analysis will be carried out. It has got an ability to
change in business environment. Documentation of project development is recorded
critically and this helps to address the planning of the project to the actual
requirement of the business.
Effective use of skill: It can be easily taught to employees because it does not need a
special expertise.
Better quality: It helps to cut mistakes of information system by telling a certain
quality level in the beginning and often reviewing the new system.
SSADM increases the overall productivity of the project and the organization by
meeting business needs, ensures better quality, improving on the dot delivery and
engaging human resources successfully.

Robin Hood Quotes
Robin Hood Genre Essay The book, The Adventures of Robin Hood by Roger
Lancelyn Green explains how Robin has numerous adventures of saving people and
stealing from the rich to give to the poor. Robin Hood was a well known hero,
although he and additional subjects such as Maid Marian and Friar Tuck are
fictional. Evidence from many sources lead to Robin Hoodalso being a fictional
character, and having this story be a legend. Robin Hood is a legend and is fictional
based on evidence from the non fictionsupplement, the documentary, and the Robin
Hood archery video. First, Robin was a legend and did not exist based on facts from

Robin Hood Shot shows that skilled archers can hit another arrow with one shot
like Robin Hood. This may lead to evidence that he is real, but it took this archer
over 900 tries to hit the arrow from about ten to twenty feet away, which means
Robin Hood may not be able to hit the arrow with his first shot 100 feet away. A
quote from Robin Hood Shot reads, To shoot his arrow through this miniscule
target, Bryon will need meticulous execution, perfect aim, and probably some
luck. This quote is significant because it shows what need to be done to make this
shot perfect, showing that hitting another arrow is possible, but there is a high
chance that anyone who is very skilled at archery could not his this shot on their
first try with a longbow like Robin Hood s. Evidence from Robin Hood Shot also
shows Robin Hood is a legend because this action of hitting another arrow with one
shot of a longbow could also be an additional part to the book, added to spice up the
story even more. Overall, Robin Hood Shot shows shooting as accurate as Robin
Hood with a longbow like his is very unlikely, showing that Robin Hood is a Legend
and is a fictional
My Greatest Failure
My greatest failure was how I reacted to getting a C in my middle school science
class. Growing up my grades weren t the best in middle school, but for the one
year I had to get perfect grades to go to the highschool of my choice I ended up
getting a C in my science class and ruining my chances. I had let down my family.
Seeing their faces on report card pickup just drop down in disappointed is a
miserable sight that flashes back to haunt me at times. Yet my reaction to that
failure was the real mistake I made because I had sworn to become a student that
got all A s, I had lost my self worth to a letter and had a letters dictate how I lived
my life. One letter changed me forever, I fueled my anger and frustration into
becoming the ideal student. This anger at myself, fueled with my critique of every
aspect of my being led me to work to improve my grades. I had gotten all A s for
the first time in my life that last quarter of seventh grade, with enough
determination and hard work I had become the model student I wanted to be.
Showing unparalleled growth in my parents eyes. My image started shifting from
the goofy kid to the smart kid in class. Yet, the stress of perfection and getting that
letter grade of A had started become a norm for me. I couldn t regress because I
didn t want to become a failure again.. This mentality fueled me burning me out
emotionally at times, but I told myself what I was doing is good because of all the
respect I had gotten and it would help

Cybersecurity in the Globalization Era
When considering the technological advances over the past 50 years, the Internet has
undoubtedly had the greatest impact on everyday life of developed economies and its
citizens. The world has become smaller, societies interconnected, and the pace of
global integration dramatically increased since the introduction of the Internet. With
the world connected, cyber actors represent a very real and often underestimated
threat to the United States ability to defend national security, protect industrial
innovation, and secure privacy information. As a result of globalization, the foreign
cyber actors represent the most imminent threat to national security, corporate
innovation, and citizen privacy rights. The first age of globalization took place
during the mid 19th century with the repeal of the Corn Laws and Navigation Acts.
This opened up seas to free trade and international competition. The removal of
barriers to trade led to a rapid increase in international prosperity at the expense of the

December 15, 2015 The Mad Gone Mad...or Just Gone The late nineteenth century
saw a tide of immigrants entering the American borders who were no longer
considered an effective work force. Rather, these newcomers were perceived as
threats to the American population as they were considered responsible depleting
jobs, housing, and other resources. With the simultaneous rise of insane asylums,
professionals increasingly targeted mentally ill immigrants as scapegoats for larger
social and economic problems. This paper attempts to examine the manner in which
professionals used the language of mental illness to redefine immigrants as threats to
national prosperity, thereby lending scientific support to deportation policies that
jeopardized both the place of immigrants in American society and, unintentionally, the
nation s economy. Public health officials were highly responsible for the suggestion
that the rise in immigrants was directly correlated to the increase in insanity in
America. In 1907, the Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA)
published an article in which the unknown author begins by insisting that furnish an
undue proportion of the insane in the American population. The author s use of the
word undue implies seem an injustice was done to the Americans as immigrants used
more of the nation s mental health resources. Similarly, the word furnish illustrates
that immigrants were
Crime And Its Effect On Society Essay
Introduction
Crime prevalently commits around the globe either at the past time or even in this
present and ongoing society. Crime is not commendable to commit in any society,
however, we cannot rule out the possibility that, it is there as a complex issue and
could be explained as a part of society life. So, what crime actually is? Crime
delineates as an illegal act either against law, collective wellbeing, or even political
wellbeing (Bradley Walters, 2011). It then overall deems as a kind of harmful
behavior towards certain values or norms of the society it committed in.
Becker (from labelling theory) argued that no action in itself crime or deviant, it
depends upon who commits it, who sees it, and what action is taken about it
(Becker, 1991). So it is to underline that crime is really a social creation, and does
not have such reality of its own, historical relative and characterized by the constant
changing (Henry, 2001; Bradley Walters, 2011). This is not the conclusion, as we
continually seek to understand such claim that crime is a product of the society and
always shifting over time and place.
In this essay I will unpack three motives of why crime has been posited to be a
social construction rather a reality in itself autonomous or neutral. Three different
approaches will be proposed to justify crime as a social fabrication, which are; First
Crime is a legal based fabrication which takes a form on the doctrinal argument by
judges and bring existence to such

Gothic Elements In Flannery O Connor s Northanger Abbey
Regina Maria Roche born in 1764 and died in 1845 is considered to be a gothic
novelist. She wrote her novels on the shade of Ann Radcliffe. Though she is not so
popular in today s time but she was considered to be a well renowned writer of her
period. Though she was born and brought up in Dublin after her marriage she moved
to England. At the beginning she used to write using her maiden name Dalton. But
after the success of her novelClermont she started writing using her own name.
Clermont is considered to be her only true gothic novel and it is full of darkness in
nature. Even in Jane Austens book Northanger Abbey out of many novels mentioned,
this was one of them and she satirized this novel there. This book became so well
known that it was even translated in French and English.

Palestine By Joe Sacco; A Book Review Essay
Joe Sacco s graphic novel, Palestine, deals with the repercussions of the first intifada
in Israel/Palestine/the Holy Land. The story follows the author through the many
refugee camps and towns around Palestine as he tries to gather information, stories,
and pictures to construct his graphic novel. While the book is enjoyable at a face
level, there are many underlying themes conveyed throughout its illustrated pages and
written text.
The most obvious of the themes is that of violence, brutality, and torture. Tied into
this also is the idea of injustice. Many of these themes are intertwined. Constantly the
reader is berated with violent images, or descriptions of violence. These must be on
nearly every second page of the novel. A good... Show more content on

The first to examine is near the end of the text while Sacco is leaving Palestine; he is
sitting beside an old Jewish American . She states that it is a shame all the violence
that goes on in the area, especially after all the hardships the Jews have already
suffered. To contrast this, the reader must look back to an earlier instance in the
book that is mainly textual . Here it talks about the opinions of the Zionists who first
moved to Israel, as well as quotes from Prime Ministers of Israel. Quotes such as,
Palestinian Arabs have only one role left to flee. and It was not as though there was a
Palestinian people considering itself as a Palestinian people and we came and threw
them out and took their country away from them. They did not exist. prove a type of
hypocrisy. After all the Jews had suffered from other cultures and societies
discriminating against them, one would think that they would not wish to inflict
anything similar on another culture or society. Quotes like this almost seem
reminiscent to those issued during the time of the Holocaust (i.e., the Jews are not
human/people). Similar to this, instances of hypocrisy are apparent throughout the
novel .
Finally, there is also an underlying theme of the sensationalist nature of the media. At
many times one finds Sacco talking about how he wants to see instances of violence
happen, because they would make a great page for

The Second Alliance And The Triple Entente
The time leading up to the first world war was a time of make alliances. These
alliances started out as small agreements between countries turned into a force that
divided the major powers of Europe into two alliances. These alliance were the
Triple Alliance and the Triple Entente. Agreements made within these alliances
help to pave the way to the war. The first of these alliances that was formed was the
Triple Alliance. It was formed in secrecy in may of 1882. This alliance was made
up of Germany, Austria Hungary, and Italy. (Kann) Although Germany and Austria
hungary were allies before the formation of the Triple Alliance, Italy was not added
into the Alliance until they wanted assistance with France. France at this time beat
out Italy in obtain some of North Africa. (Britanica) The terms of this alliance were
that if Italy was ever attacked by France, Germany and Austria Hungary would come
to its assistance. It also stated that, if Germany was attacked by France then Italy
would come in to help them. Finally they agreed that Italy would have to stay neutral
if Austria Hungary ever got into a war with Russia. The alliance was renewed again
in the february of 1887. This time, in addition to the agreements that were already
made, Germany told Italy that it would help them in North Africa ( even though they
never had any intentions of doing so). Germany also convinced Austria Hungary to
continue their alliance with Italy even during the dispute over land they were
Ancient Rome And Its Effects On The World
Ancient Rome was built on hills, the people living on the top of the hills, and farming
closer to the bottom. The climate of Ancient Rome was humid and cool and ranged
from 55 to 95 Fahrenheit year round. The Alps to the far north of Rome protected
them from threats coming from North Europe, while not isolating them on the
peninsula. Being on the Italian peninsula was useful for trading and sailing to other
areas in the Mediterranean to conquer land. Rome did not trade as much as some
other civilizations around the Mediterranean such as the Egyptians. Most people in
Ancient Romewere farmers and sold most of what they grew to the markets. Rich
landowners had lots of land and either rented it to poorer farmers, or had their many
slaves farm it for them. Some wealthier shopkeepers sailed around the Mediterranean
trading for papyrus and similar items that ordinary people could afford; however,
some traders went further into the Indian Ocean, or West Asia, some traders even
imported silk all the way from China, which only the richest could afford.
The richest and most powerful people in Ancient Rome were the patricians. The
patricians were the wealthiest and were usually part of the Senate, or other
governmental figures. Each year an assembly of the citizens and equites/landowners
would vote new members of the Senate into office. The social structure of Ancient
Rome was a hierarchy. The highest class were the patricians, followed by the
plebeians, who were ordinary citizens

Islam and Secularism.
Saudi scholars denounce secularism as strictly prohibited in Islamic tradition. The
Saudi Arabian Directorate of Ifta , Preaching and Guidance, has issued a directive
decreeing that whoever believes that there is a guidance (huda) more perfect than
that of the Prophet, or that someone else s rule is better than his is a kafir.

It must be mentioned that the concept of secular ethics is not necessarily opposed to or
inherently contrasting with religious ethics. Certain sets of moral beliefs, such as the
golden rule or a commitment to non violence, could be held by each position and
mutually agreed upon. As well, it must be mentioned that secular ethics have been
developed differently given the different times and different situations faced.
Principles of Secular ethics
Secular ethicists generally share one or more principles: Human beings, through
their ability to empathise, are capable of determining ethical grounds. Human
beings, through logic and reason, are capable of deriving normative principles of
behaviour. This may lead to a behaviour preferable to that propagated or condoned
based on religious texts. Alternately, this may lead to the advocacy of a system of
moral principles that a broad group of people, both religious and non religious, can
agree upon. Human beings have the moral responsibility to ensure that societies and
individuals act based on these ethical principles. Societies should, if at all possible,
advance from a less ethical and just form to a more ethical and just form.
Many of these tenets are applied in the Science of morality, the use of the scientific
method to answer moral questions. Various thinkers have framed morality as
questions of empirical truth to be explored in a scientific context. The science is

The Civil Rights Movement Of African Americans
Civil rights are the rights that every person should have no matter their sex,
religion, or race. These were deprived to African Americans for hundreds of years,
long before the civil rights movement of the 1960s. African Americans were slaves
from the 1500s until the 1860s when the Civil War happened. After the slaves were
freed, there was still a lot of segregation and racismthroughout the U.S., especially
in the South. The government put into place Jim Crow Laws, which were strict
segregation laws that would punish people who associated with people of another
race, if the law forbade them to do so. They also used poll taxes, literacy tests, and
other things of the like to prevent African Americans from voting. White
supremacist groups like the Ku Klux Klan, or rather known as the KKK, would
perform violent acts to minorities. They would bomb, carry out beatings and
shootings and set fires to blacks homes. Some African Americans were fed up with
this bad treatment and started protests in the 1950s. In 1954, there was a Supreme
Court case Brown v. Board of Education where there was a unanimous vote that
segregation in public schools was unconstitutional and it overturned Plessy v.
Ferguson where the court said people of different race were separate but equal.
Thurgood Marshall was the attorney in that case and later on he became the first
African AmericanSupreme Court judge. In 1955, Rosa Parks, an African American
woman, born on February 14, 1913 in

  • 2. Case Study Of Genting Much of Genting s success was due to its monopoly position as the sole casino owner in Malaysia. The increasingly conservative mood of the Muslim population in the country made it unlikely that new challengers would appear in the domestic market. However, that same shift in religious sentiment raised the possibility that Genting s own license might one day be withdrawn. At the same time, Genting faced new competition elsewhere in the region, as a number of neighboring countries began authorizing the construction of casinos. Genting took a multifaceted approach to confronting this situation. On the one hand, the company continued redeveloping the resort site itself away from its earlier emphasis on its casino operation to expand more broadly... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The company began operating casino cruises in southeast Asia, building up a fleet of 18 ships with more than 23,000 beds. By the end of the decade, Star Cruise was already the Asia Pacific region s largest cruise operator. The acquisition of NCL Holdings and its Miami, Florida based Norwegian Cruise Lines in 2000, helped position the company as one of the world s top three cruise line operators. Genting also began expanding its hospitality operations into other markets, acquiring casino management and development contracts in such markets as Australia, the Bahamas, and the Philippines. The company also launched a new Property division, conducted through subsidiary Asiatic Indahpura, which began developing a 6,800 acre landsite in Kulai, Johor. Genting increasingly sought to expand its international holdings, while at the same time seeking to buttress its reliance on the more volatile tourism market with an extension into other industries. This effort was led in large part by Lim s son, Lim Kok Thay. In 1994, the company launched a new Paper Packaging division through the creation of Genting International Paper holdings Ltd. and the acquisition of the Sanyen paper mill in Kuala Langat, the country s largest brown grade paper manufacturer. In 1998, the company expanded that operation downstream, launching production of corrugated packaging. The new subsidiary was then renamed the Genting Sanyen

  • 4. The Rabbinic Age of Judaism The banishment and exile of Jews from the ancient Kingdom Judah to Babylon resulted in dramatic changes to Jewish culture and religion. This allowed the circumstances for the development of various sects, each of which claimed exclusive authority to represent Judaism ; marriage with members of other sects is forbidden. Although priests controlled the rituals of the Temple, the scribes and sages, later called rabbis dominated the study of the Torah. These sages identified with the Prophets and developed and maintained an oral tradition that they believed had originated at Mount Sinai. The Pharisees had its origins in this new system. This clarified the status of those common areas as a private domain relative to the members of the bond. In that manner people could carry objects from building to building. The Pharisees were innovators in that they enacted specific laws as they saw necessary, according to the needs of the time. Of all the major Second Temple sects, only the Pharisees believed with teachings directed to all Jews, they could transform Temple worship. Such teachings extended beyond ritual practices. Regardless of the importance they gave to the Temple, the Pharisees vision of Jewish law was a means by which ordinary people could engage with the blessings in their daily lives. Also, they wanted to grant them a position from which to respond to challenges in a way meaningful to the vast majority of Jews. Their responses would constitute Rabbinic Judaism. After the destruction of the Second Temple, these sect divisions ended. The Rabbis avoided the term Pharisee . The Rabbis claimed leadership over all Jews, and added to the Amidah the birkat haMinim, a prayer which in part exclaims, Praised are You O Lord, who breaks enemies and defeats the arrogant, and which is understood as a rejection of sectarians and sectarianism. This shift by no means resolved conflicts over the interpretation of the Torah; rather, it relocated debates between sects to debates within Rabbinic Judaism. The Rabbinic Era itself is divided into two

Periodontics Personal Statement STATEMENT OF PURPOSE When a procedure as basic as scaling and root planning and the sight of reduced post operative inflammation seeing the gingiva turn to a benign pink from red gives you a sense of fulfillment and satisfaction that is incomparable, you know that being a Periodontist is everything you have ever wanted. Holding a scalpel, incising the gingival and periodontal tissues and raising a flap almost perfectly for the very first time, is perhaps one of the most exhilarating experiences I have ever had and, at the risk of sounding too dramatic, the clockwise and anti clockwise turning of the wrist during suturing is nothing short of sheer poetry in motion to me. As a teenager, I read Doctors by Erich Segal and instantly, my love for medical sciences was born. • 9. How Does Stockett Present Racism In The Help The novel, The Help by Kathryn Stockett is an exploration of the ways in which the main theme of racism and symbols of discrimination pervaded every aspect of human life within the 1960s. The symbol of the toilets symbolizes all the flaws in society, specifically in relation to segregation in this era, while sparking Skeeter s motivation to impact the public eye of race. Bathrooms are one of the most persistent motifs in the novel as well. This starts with Hilly s Home Help Sanitation Initiative, which requires all white families to have a second bathroom for the use of their colored maids. They are also there to symbolize the dirtiness of the tactics used to maintain a racist status quo in the Mississippi community in the 1960s. Despite the fact that Minny is increasingly well known for her pies, she uses her baking skills to her advantage in order to get revenge upon Hilly. By doing so Minny receives a feeling of empowerment against Hilly and successfully proves her wrong against the claim that all African American individuals carry unique diseases. It has also been suggested that women might be more of a threat towards black people than men would be a white man will use violence, but a white woman will ruin your life. This statement becomes true when Hilly uses negative tools in order to punish Minny after accusing her of thievery. Aibileen often refers to the bitter seed that began to grow inside of her after the death of her son Treelore. The seed makes Aibileen less accepting of the white women who treat her like a lesser human being, and she often feels the seed growing every time a white woman humiliates or degrades her. The individuals with privilege in this novel must realize that they are given an unfair amount of power and should use that power not to maintain their status quo but to help others who have their voices silenced by society. Although each one of the help undergo the pretentiousness of the white woman of the South, it is demonstrated that no matter how anyone is treated or how dark a person s life seems, there is hope. • 10. Analysis Of Miracle By Tope Folarin To many, miracles are a very real phenomenon, and many people adamantly believe that miracles are performed every day. While there are many interpretations of what a miracle may be, the short story Miracle, by Tope Folarin, puts the concept in a distinct context. The story details the experience of a boy being a skeptical participant in a miracle in a Nigerian church. The story is multifaceted in that it addresses multiple power dynamics using various details, however, the main conflict is between the traditional beliefs of the older church members and the skepticism of the youth. Ultimately, Folarin argues that miraclesare not supernaturalevents that instantly change lives, rather they are circumstantial and are realized over time as a result of perseverance. To do so, Folarin uses literary devices such as characterization of the members of the church, situational irony, and setting. Miracle details the story of a boy being part of a miracle in a Nigerian church. He begins by describing certain rituals of the church, such as a prayer and performing Nigerian songs. Eventually, a short, blind old man described as a prophet reaches the pulpit. Most people at the church were Nigerian immigrants looking for miracles, and believed he could perform them. He promises the members of the church that they will receive powerful blessings so long as they are faithful (Folarin 75). He then calls the boy to the pulpit, declaring that he will cure his sight so that he will

  • 14. Use Of Forecasting Techniques For The Graduate Tuition... This paper seeks to examine the use of forecasting techniques as it applies to the graduate tuition rate at James Madison University. While several methods and techniques of forecasting could have been used, I focused primarily on the Least Squares Regression technique, as it relates to projections, to project the rates for the next ten years. Projected rates were slightly comparable to actual rates, though, other techniques are not assumed to reduce the error of projected graduate tuition rates. James Madison University is a comprehensive university in the Shenandoah Valley of Harrisonburg Rockingham County, Virginia. Since it s start in 1954, the graduate school has focused its efforts on the education of its students at a reasonable cost. Although tuition has risen over the years, it can be assumed that this is possibly due to the rising costs of operation. In recent years, 2009 2014, the cost has increased by 34% ($305 to $410) for in state students. Similarly, there has been an increase in out of state tuition by more than 20% ($890 $1095) since 2009. Due to the rate increases over the past five years, I project that the cost will continue to rise over the years. The aim of our forecasting is to provide information about possible future changes in tuition rates. In general, the three approaches to forecasting, projection, prediction, and conjecture, all seek to produce information about future trends we expect to examine in society; however, they do so in various

If the player fails to roll doubles they lose their turn. Failure to roll doubles in their third turn will result in paying the RM50 fine to be released. Moreover, when the player is in jail, they may not buy any property directly because they are currently not moving around and does not land on any properties on the board. Nevertheless, they may sell, trade and mortgage properties, purchase buildings, and collect rents while they are in jail. NietoGomez explains how the church utilized Guadalupe s image, Marianismo, the veneration of the Virgin Mary, became the model of how to make oppression a religious obligation. This is the heritage of the Chicana. The church created a patriarchal role for themselves by weaving the Virgin s image as a pure mother to model ordinary women s behavior. By applying this method through the guise of subjugation, the Church rationalized their need to protect women in order to maintain their pure, moral status. Paradoxically, feminine virtues expressed by the Virgin as to be employed by women represents many contradictory elements. Debra

A treasure so grand that it couldn t be found anywhere else. A treasure so valuable that it could never be taken elsewhere to be cherished forever. My breath was frozen in the air as a dead silence surrounded me. A light fog covered the muddy trail since I began my hike. The drizzling rain only added to the gloomy and haggard feeling. My boots were pressed against the ground, slowly sinking into the damp earth. The faint knocking of bamboo could be heard growing louder. Someone or something was approaching me. The bamboo was bendy enough for my weak arms to push as I approached the knocking noise. Slowly I took cautious steps to avoid the broken and fallen pieces of bamboo scattered across the ground. As I was about to take my next step, a person s foot came slamming down into the ground! I stumbled backward, crashing onto the ground! Suddenly, a figure broke through the cluster of bamboo. As I looked up, out stepped a figure familiar to me. It was my father! His confusion expression became that of relief as he helped up from the ground. We continued to follow the trail was a maze of lush greenery and foliage. The trail twisted and curved. It was unknown to me, yet so familiar to my dad, I thought as I continued hiking in amazement. Indeed, households are the situation of extreme emotion, attachment, and even violence. Families are where many of the seemingly irrational decisions of life are realized. For instance, it is currently estimated that the costs of producing one child to the age of 18is about a fourth part of a million bucks. Then we place our time, energy, and money in our youngsters then they can get up and entrust us. That is considered parental success. However, as an economic decision, how can this be considered a rational alternative? Kids are clearly an economic liability, and the days when we could reckon on them for care of elderly parents appears all but went away. The main theme represented in A Worn Path is that a person would endure and overcome the forces of nature and society for those they love. Eudora Welty introduces the character Phoenix Jackson in a way that illustrates that Phoenix is a person who endures forces of nature and society; and the meaning of her name is a large hint to the theme of endurance. Ideas about gender roles and economic class change as the country attempts to redefine itself and its morals in the wake of a devastating conflict. Although the Great Depression was fifteen years removed from the First World War, social issues of the time resemble the same issues that were pertinent in the immediate post war era as well as American issues in the post WWII era. In a lot of ways, they are still the issues we are facing nearly a century later. Many women were forced to work during the war to supplement their husband s income while he was deployed overseas but when he returned, their help was no longer needed or desired. When the Great Depressionhit in 1929, women who were still in the workplace or who sought jobs so that they could feed their families faced accusations that their position in the workplace were preventing men from obtaining jobs for their families. When the Depression ended and the United States became involved in World War II, women were again forced to work to supplement their husbands income, and yet again expected to leave the workforce when men returned home from war. During the time period from 1932 1945, social issues were addressed in film as both a moral boost during hard times and a criticism of society. Gold Diggers of 1933 (1933) boosted the moral of moviegoers during the Great Depression with its flashy costumes and dreams of being in the

That one sip could have changed his life. He wouldn t be able to go to the Ivy League he dreamed of. He wouldn t be able to play on his school soccer team. His whole life would have been ruined because of one minuscule sip. But he was glad he ran. He was proud he ran. And this run might have just saved his life. He knew how bad peer pressureis and how to avoid it. All kids should be able to avoid it. Do you know what to do when being peer pressured? Do you know how people feel when they are being peer pressured? Well, you should because peer pressure is a serious thing and can affect your life in many ways. But, it can also save your life in many ways. You might have wondered if others have had the experience of being peer pressured. They have. Whether it be as simple as your parents forcing you to eat your broccoli at dinner or it could be as serious as someone forcing you to drink alcohol under the legal age. Have you ever been peer pressured? How did it feel? Peer pressure doesn t have to be negative though. There is also something called positive peer pressure. Positive peer pressure is when your friends or someone forces you to do something that will benefit you. Has your mom ever forced you to go study for your next test? That is positive peer pressure. She is forcing you to do something that will only benefit your well being. When it is negative peer pressure though, you don t end up being proud of yourself in the end. Parents should also help the kids out by telling them about peer pressure and teaching them how to avoid it. According to David Herz, MD, a pediatrician at Scripps Coastal Medical Center in San Diego, the parents should be able to talk to the kids about peer pressure. In his article, it states It s also important to remember that any conversations you have with children about alcohol, drugs or sex should start well before the teen years. They should understand, early, the consequences of bad behavior. That will reinforce these values when they really need them. The Civil Rights movement is displayed through the personal and prolific account of the life and legal experiences of Jack Greenberg a monumental lawyer whose actions shaped this movement and went down in history. The iconoclastic figure of Jack Greenberg was a fundamental catalyst in changing the course of history and the racism that plagued American society. He was raised in the Bronx, New York, from a Jewish family and as a Jewish person dedicated to fairness and equality. He lived first hand through segregation in the Deep South when working hard on establishing protocols of fairness and decency through many historic legal cases. Greenberg went as far as staying in the colored section of segregated hotels, eating in the colored section of restaurants and essentially living as a colored person to fully understand how degenerate the system of inequality was in the South. He virtually stripped as many privileges he had as a white man besides his obvious skin color. By doing so, he was able to sympathize with colored people, and used this experience to motivate him through all the cases he fought for in the Civil Rights movement. This life experience was integral throughout the tumultuous period where he fought for key civil rights. • 38. Response Of The Human Cardiovascular System The tilt study demonstrated the baroreflex response of the human cardiovascular system to changes in posture. Expected decreases in BP, MAP, CO at 30 seconds post tilt and immediate decreases in SV and TPR as seen in Figures 2, 4, 6 and Table 1 were observed. These decreases were due to increased pooling of bloodin the lower limbs leading to lower venous return and subsequently decreasing flow out of the heart. Furthermore, there was a reflexive response by the autonomic nervous system in order to regain normal cardiovascular parameters mediated by the baroreceptors. Going from supine to standing position induced changes in the hydrostatic pressure experienced by the superior and inferior regions of the body. As tilt occurred blood began to pool in highly distensible veins of the lower region. Because of this pooling phenomena there was an expected reduction in venous return to the heart and subsequently a reduced CO (Fig. 5) as seen 30 seconds post tilt (Sherwood, 2013). This reduced CO exemplifies the Frank Starling Law of the Heart which states that reduced venous return will result in reduced CO by the heart (Sherwood, 2013). The Frank Starling Law can also explain lowered SV as seen in Figure 4. The only explanation to why CO (a product of HR and SV) might have increased in this experiment immediately after tilt was because HR (Fig. 1) significantly increased at the same time in comparison to the small decrease in SV as seen in Figure 4. MAP and BP decreases were

Rather, these newcomers were perceived as threats to the American population as they were considered responsible depleting jobs, housing, and other resources. With the simultaneous rise of insane asylums, professionals increasingly targeted mentally ill immigrants as scapegoats for larger social and economic problems. This paper attempts to examine the manner in which professionals used the language of mental illness to redefine immigrants as threats to national prosperity, thereby lending scientific support to deportation policies that jeopardized both the place of immigrants in American society and, unintentionally, the nation s economy. Public health officials were highly responsible for the suggestion that the rise in immigrants was directly correlated to the increase in insanity in America. Crime is not commendable to commit in any society, however, we cannot rule out the possibility that, it is there as a complex issue and could be explained as a part of society life. So, what crime actually is? Crime delineates as an illegal act either against law, collective wellbeing, or even political wellbeing (Bradley Walters, 2011). It then overall deems as a kind of harmful behavior towards certain values or norms of the society it committed in. Becker (from labelling theory) argued that no action in itself crime or deviant, it depends upon who commits it, who sees it, and what action is taken about it (Becker, 1991). So it is to underline that crime is really a social creation, and does not have such reality of its own, historical relative and characterized by the constant changing (Henry, 2001; Bradley Walters, 2011). This is not the conclusion, as we continually seek to understand such claim that crime is a product of the society and always shifting over time and place. In this essay I will unpack three motives of why crime has been posited to be a social construction rather a reality in itself autonomous or neutral. Three different approaches will be proposed to justify crime as a social fabrication, which are; First Crime is a legal based fabrication which takes a form on the doctrinal argument by judges and bring existence to such
