Essay On Domestic Violence
Writing an essay on the topic of domestic violence is undoubtedly a challenging task that requires
a delicate balance between addressing the gravity of the issue and maintaining a thoughtful,
empathetic approach. Tackling such a sensitive and complex subject involves extensive research,
as one must delve into the multifaceted aspects of domestic violence, including its causes,
effects, and potential solutions.
To begin with, gathering reliable and up-to-date information is crucial, as the dynamics of
domestic violence are continually evolving. It demands a thorough exploration of various
academic sources, statistics, and real-life stories to provide a comprehensive understanding of
the issue. Balancing statistical data with personal narratives helps in presenting a more nuanced
and empathetic perspective, allowing readers to connect emotionally with the essay's content.
Additionally, crafting a thesis statement that encapsulates the essence of the essay while
maintaining clarity and focus is a formidable challenge. Given the broad scope of the topic,
refining the thesis to address specific angles of domestic violence is essential. Striking a balance
between maintaining objectivity and expressing a passionate stance is another layer of
complexity, requiring a nuanced language and careful selection of words to convey the severity
of the issue without sensationalizing it.
Moreover, organizing the essay coherently poses its own set of challenges. Arranging the
information logically, from introduction to conclusion, demands a strategic structuring of
paragraphs and sections. Maintaining a consistent tone and ensuring a smooth transition between
ideas is crucial for the essay's overall impact.
Addressing potential counterarguments and presenting a well-rounded perspective further
complicates the task. Acknowledging the complexities surrounding domestic violence while
advocating for change requires a delicate touch to avoid oversimplification.
In conclusion, writing an essay on domestic violence involves navigating a minefield of
emotions, statistics, and societal complexities. It necessitates a careful and thoughtful approach
to foster understanding, empathy, and, most importantly, awareness. Crafting such an essay
requires time, dedication, and a commitment to shedding light on an issue that often lurks in the
shadows of society.

Essay on Epic of Gilgamesh
Title:Gilgamesh Type:Epic Author: Anonymous Theme:The central idea of
Gilgamesh was the greed that he had to receive eternal life. Gilgamesh was a
selfish person who was half god and half man and wanted to keep his youth after
seeing Enkidu die. Gilgamesh knew his destiny was not to receive eternal life
because he was half man. He decided to go against the odds to fight against not
having eternal life searching for the secret despite what the Gods told him.
Exposition:The story dates between 2500 1500 B.C. Gilgamesh ruled in Uruk, a city
in ancient Mesopotamia. Protagonist:The epic is centered on Gilgamesh because he
is the main character and ruler of Uruk who in the beginning is rude and arrogant and
has a journey... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Crisis:Death is the crisis for Gilgamesh and the fact he is half man is preventing
him from living forever. He decides to ignore the advice given to the gods and goes
on a quest to find the boatman Utnapishtim for eternal life. Climax:Gilgamesh goes
on his journey for everlasting life and find the boat man Utnapishtim for
everlasting life. First, Gilgamesh is challenged to stay awake for 6 days and 7
nights, but he fails at the task. Secondly, he tells Gilgamesh that a prickly plant has
the answer for his eternal life and if he is able to capture it he will hold in his
hands the answer for his youth. As Gilgamesh goes to cleanse him self, a serpent
takes his plant and Gilgamesh is saddened because this now means death is in his
path. He decides to make plans to take the plant to the elderly men to renew their
youth which shows leadership as a king is suppose to be. Resolution or
Denouement: In the beginning of the epic Gilgamesh the people of Uruk saw
Gilgamesh as a lousy, obnoxious, arrogant ruler. After his journeys to find
everlasting life his heart began to soften and see a different perspective of life. It
was revealed long after Gilgamesh s death that he was actually considered a god.
This helps explain his fear towards death. Gilgamesh wanted to physically be a great
warrior until the end of time opposed to just another historic memory. Although it was
not actually death he was afraid of,

The Great Depression in the 1930s America s Great Depression began with the
dramatic crash of the stock market on Black Thursday , October 24, 1929 when 16
million shares of stock were quickly sold by panicking investors who had lost faith
in the American economy. At the height of the Depression in 1933, nearly 25% of
the Nation s total work force, 12,830,000 people, were unemployed. Wage income
for workers who were lucky enough to have kept their jobs fell almost 43%
between 1929 and 1933. It was the worst economic disaster in American history.

Paradise Lost Religion
Satan, still within the body of the serpent, offers Eve a multitude of reasons why she
should eat from the Tree of Knowledge, despite God s warnings. He tells her the fruit
will not kill her as God says, for he ate of the fruit and is not only alive, but made even
more powerful. In his most prevalent argument, Satan attempts to demonstrate to Eve
that the act of eating has the ability to become a transformative experience. Though
ultimately true, the transformation that Satan describes occurs far differently than the
one she and Adam actually receive. In Christianity, food acts as such a significant
force that Satan can almost seamlessly trick Eve into eating the forbidden fruit. Food
and eating is so powerful throughout theology, that Eve can effortlessly envision its
potential as a vehicle to transform her from an earthly human to a godlike being. Upon
Eve s initial consumption of the illicit fruit, one of her leading thoughts becomes that
the fruit may render me... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the story of creation expressed in Paradise Lost , Milton depicts how food can act
as a way to transform a person of innocence into one defined largely by depravity.
Within his story, Milton communicates the fall of man through the act of
consumption. Reversely, man s ability to achieve redemption is also profoundly
contingent on food. In religiously sanctioned eating, such as the Holy Communion,
food can act to aid one s relationship with God. By participating in the Eucharist and
other godly ways of consumption, man becomes able to rebuild and restore the
relationship with God that became corrupt after Adam and Eve ate from the Tree of
Knowledge. In Christian faith, everything hinges on God s interpretation. If God
gives a regulation, whether that regulation present itself in the form of food or not,
man s level of ability and willingness to follow that decree largely defines his spiritual

Space Reflection
Over the last semester, our class has gone on a journey throughout space. This
journey has grown our knowledge and imagination of what space holds for
humanity. With this class, we have been inspired to look past our own planet to
the future opportunities the the stars hold. Just as this class has lit the fire of
adventure for space in us, our group went to Legacy High School to present to both
of Mr. Wold s AVID class, pictured below, where we tried to inspire the group of
seniors about the wonder of space before they took their next step in life. To do
this, we presented on one of space s biggest mysteries, Black Holes. The
presentation was broken into six slides with each member presenting two of the
slides. The slide that was done by Joyce Kruger was the basic intro where we got
the audience thinking about our topic. We would first ask the audience Do you
know what we are presenting on today and most of them would raise their hands
because we had already told them what we re talking about and we wanted them to
raise their hands. Once their hands were up we would then pick someone with their
hand up and ask them what a black holeis in their opinion. We wanted to get a couple
kids to say their opinion just to get a baseline on what they already know. Then we
would introduce the definition of a black hole and compare it to what the kids
said. We would wrap up this slide by talking about how black holes were made. This
was a good segway into Paul s section on the
Mackie s Argument Against God From Evil
Argument Against God From Evil
The strongest argument against God is Mackie s argument from evil.
The argument against God from evil focuses on disproving God by exposing the
contradictions that arise from the image of God held by most theologians and the
existence of evil. This argument takes a reductio ad absurdum approach meaning it
uses a false or contradictory conclusion to show that a sound argument cannot be
derived from the given premises. The beliefs held by most monotheistic religions,
which are the foundation of our premises, would be that: God exist, God is wholly
good, and God is omnipotent. The problem stems from the fact that in the presence
of evil, which exist irrefutably, being omnipotent and wholly good is incompatible.
This contradiction is more easily seen once the terms have been defined. In this
sense, to be wholly good is to always remove as much evil as possible, and to be
omnipotent is to be able to do anything. From this it follows that if God is real, God
has the power to do anything, and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
That being said, God s gift of free will to humanity is often used as the prime
example as to why evil exist. Free will, theologian s would argue, is among the
greatest goods, but for humans to truly have free will they must also have the
choice to do evil. This argument is flawed however. The theologian would argue
that free will and not being able to do evil is incompatible and therefore not
possible, but God himself is a testament to the opposite. God being wholly good,
would not freely choose to do evil, and assuming no theologian would argue that
God has no free will, it must follow that it is possible to have free will and not do
any evil. If that premise is true, and we recall that God being omnipotent can do
anything that is possible, it must follow that God could have and would have made
humans without the ability to cause evil if he

Racism In Prison Essay
When I was a child I believed that everyone on the planet was treated reasonably
that same as everyone else. I had no clue what racism was, or even looked like. As
the years went by, I came to understand the world a little bit more that I had once
known it. I even realized how big of a part racism plays in our society. While others
may disagree, I firmly believe that racismis an overused term, which society has
exhausted in order for them to explain wrongdoings done to their race. As you read
this essay consider both sides of racism and decide what you want to believe about
racism. In discussions of racism, one controversial issue has been why the African
Americanpopulation in prison systems is so much significantly higher than the
white prisoner population. Statistics show the odds of a black male going to
prison is much higher than those of a white male; 1 in 3 African American males
is expected to go to prison in his lifetime, compared to 1 in 17 white males. This
statistic shocks the black community, most people blame racism. They say our
police force is too racist and so is our judicial system. As our former president Barack
Obama said, The United States is home to 5% of the world s population, but 25% of

For example, I could argue that no one who is of Hindu religion understands what
it is like to be a Christian. For that reason, I find it difficult to adhere to what
Gingrich is saying, because his statement is too vague to use in an actual argument.
Society is also wrong in believing that African Americans are being arrested for
crimes solely because they are African American. They are being arrested for crimes
they actually do commit, it is the media that ignores the crime and focuses on the
race. I believe this is a major reason society believes so much injustice is done to the

Skepticism in the Modern World
Philosophical skepticism, according to Scottish philosopher David Hume, is asking
whether human beings can perceive the world around us with any degree of accuracy.
Practicing this school of thought means that a person initially never believes anything
to be true, but at the same time, does not say everything is necessarily false; instead,
he maintains a position of doubt. The final source of truthfor a skeptic is experience.
In terms of skepticismvs. rationalism vs. romanticism and their usage today, the
school of skepticism is the strongest way of thinking, drawing the best conclusions.
Rationalism, which uses reasonand logic for its basis, is flawed, according to
skeptics, in that their rational thought is swayed by desires. As for romanticism,
which moves away from the emphasis on science and focuses more on the freedom
and creativity of mind (and idealism, where reality varies per person), it is not always
applicable in a world that seeks definite answers.
In today s world, it is necessary for people to maintain a skeptical attitude towards
life. Without the kind of doubt skepticism entails, people can be constantly
deceived. Take, for example, a man who is on the Internet and finds interesting ad
with appealing claims. These ads, some of them, at least, can be fake and be part of
some criminal or company s scheme to make money; however others can be real. If
the man were to think skeptically, he would remain wary because ads have the

The Prison Reform System Is The Main Objectives Of The...
Since the introduction of the prison systems to humanity, people have always tried
to think of ways to improve upon it. Prison, is and has been seen as the primary
punishment against criminal acts. But, prison is no longer seen as just a form of
punishment it is also seen as a form of rehabilitation. Now, seen as the main
objectives of the modern penal system. We can still incorporated new methods to
effectively rehabilitate convicts and make the reintegration process for them much
easier. One of these possible solutions is, prisonreform.
The prison reform system is great as it is a practical, effective, and successful
alternative to incarceration. And with that being said, I strongly believe the prison

society and the grounds are modeled similarly to that of a village to ease their
transition back into society and insure it goes as smoothly as possible.
They are housed in 112 square foot cells, and receive a private toilet, shower,
unbarred windows, and a flat screen television. The minimum size acceptable in
Canada is around 40% smaller. Inmates are also allowed a weekly visit to the
prison supermarket where they use money earned while working in the prison.
They make over $8.31 a day which is equal to 53 Norwegian krones. Inmates even
have access to a kitchen where up to 10 inmates may use at the same time. In
Canada inmates may only have access to the kitchen if they are part of the kitchen
staff. Canadian inmates also average around $3.00 daily. By the way that was an
example of a maximum security prison. A minimum security prison is similar, except
everything is noticeably better. Inmates are equipped a cell key, make $9.30 daily,
and may participate in activities like skiing, fishing, running, street training, tennis,
horseback riding, and swimming. Guards don t carry weapons as they believe it
would adjectate inmates. And to continue with the craziness, at times minimum
security prison may have as little as three guard in the 115 inmate facilities.
How is any of this relevant? well in the thirty three years that this system has been
used only a handful of inmates have tried escaping (none of which were

The only concern within aviation was the safety of flying. Hardly any thought was
put into the security sector of the aviation industry. This changed when Peruvian
revolutionaries took over a Pan American mail plane. In the period of time from
1930 to 1958, there was 23 hijackings reported. The first serious incident happened
in 1947 when the aircrew member was killed. In 1955, Jack Graham, placed a
bomb in his mother s luggage. The bomb exploded during the flight killing all
aboard. A similar incident took place in 1960, when two suicide bomber killed all
people on a board. After these acts luggage inspection has become more exact. The
majority of hijackings were made due to either escape from the USA or hold
people for a ransom. In 1961, in order to prevent hijackings, the federal government
started using armed guards on chosen aircrafts. After hijackings of planes in 1969 the

The Rosenbergs Essay
The history of the United States is full of unsolved mysteries. One of the greatest
mysteries which occurred in 1953 was the electrocution of Ethel and Julius
Rosenberg under the Espionage Act. They were convicted for giving the secret
information about the atomic bomb to the Soviet Union. The anti communist
sentiment that characterized the Cold Warand McCarthyism led to their trial and
execution. Even though there is some evidence of the Rosenbergs guilt, numerous
facts which were discovered after the death of Ethel and Julius argue more

On July 17, 1950 Julius Rosenberg was arrested for spying and giving secrets

The investigation began when the FBI found a name, Klaus Fuchs, written in a
notebook of a Russian spy. Dr. Fuchs had worked on Manhattan Project (the secret
name for the project which worked on the development of the atomic bomb) from
1943 to 1946. When Dr. Fuchs was arrested, he confessed that he was giving the
information about the bomb to the Soviet Union. However, Fuchs was not the only
one. Harry Gold who was a Philadelphia biochemist said that he was told by his
Soviet contact Yakovlev to meet Fuchs in Santa Fe New Mexico on June 2, 1945,

Norman s Interpersonal Communication in the Movie, On Golden Pond
EXAMPLE The movie On Golden Pond is a fantastic vehicle with which to consider
six facets of interpersonal communication. The main character of the movie,
Norman, provides for a multifaceted study in relationships, both with his
self and with others.
I have chosen to focus this paper on several aspects of Norman s interpersonal
communication. On Golden Pond is a fascinating study in the discovery of Norman s
need to communicate with those he cares about in new ways. Our textbook defines
communication being interpersonal when the people involved are contacting each

Even though the mail carrier attempts to communicate with Norman,
Norman will not let down his guard and connect interpersonally with him. During the
movie we learn that Norman is actually quite capable of moving towards the
interpersonal side of the communication continuum.
Norman develops a friendship with Billy, a teenager staying with Norman and
Ethel for a month. Throughout the movie Norman stretches his normally closed
communication patterns as he grows to care for Billy. Evidently
Norman is able to transcend his old pattern of shutting everyone out. He learns that
he must be willing to disclose a bit about himself if he wants a relationship with Billy.
Our text defines self presentation as the process of revealing or disclosing
ourselves by verbally and nonverbally telling other people something about who we
are (233). Norman s self concept is that of a dour old man waiting to die, and this is
how he presents himself. He views himself as a patriarch a man worthy of respect.
His inclination and habit is to keep himself hidden away from others.
A Johari Window (239 240) would be an interesting tool for analyzing
Norman s personal presentation and disclosure processes. Our textbook explains the
Johari Window as having four kinds of information about your self that play a part in
your communicating (240).
The Relationship Between Old Age And Older Age
Recently, there has not been much written about the relationship between art and
aging, or aging artists. We face an aging population, meaning the average age is
rising, and there are more elderly people in proportion to young people. In order to
better care for and understand the growing elderly population, there must be research
and advancements made in all areas pertaining to human growth, longevity, quality of
life, and wellbeing. Past research has shown that art and art related activities are
beneficial to elderly people, however this topic should be revisited in order to bring
attention to the benefits of the artistic process and encourage elderly participation.
In the sixteenth century, artists were severely limited by the effects of old age. In her
article on the effects of aging on sixteenth century artists, Erin Campbell (2002)
explores the pressures placed on artists by both physical decline and by art critics.
According to Campbell (2002), the social expectations of the time required artists
to give up art as a profession; a push largely influenced by art critics. Artists who
grew old and were not hindered by the physical aspects of age and continued to
produce work for sale were heavily criticized (Campbell, 2002). Campbell (2002)
provides the example of the artist Titan receiving harsh reviews from an art critic
named Vasari, for painting his final pieces. In sharp contrast, Vasari praises other
aged artists for their later works on the grounds that they
Berger Ways Of Seeing
Berger, the author of Ways of Seeing, offers a new perspective on how to analyze
art while reading the image for what the artist is trying to convey. Berger strongly
believes that every person interprets art differently, which means there are infinite
possibilities when it comes to describing arts effect on not only a person, but on
society as a whole. Your perspective is influenced by your upbringing, education,
beliefs, and the generation you belong to. Berger also believes that we can not only
gaze at a painting, in order to fully grasp the meaning of the events that are taking
place, one must situate themselves in that place and time. The person viewing the
painting must examine it for clues and try to dig beyond the surface due to the... Show

Berger encouraged situating oneself in each of the characters places in the painting,
and give deep thought as to what they were doing, why, and how. While I do not
possess any concrete answers to any of these questions, after examining the painting
closely and doing some digging into what and where the painting takes place, I was
able to form an educated hypothesis about what each characters thoughts may be. I
feel as though Berger helped me to dig past the surface and critically examine what is

Pollution In China
Currently, most countries have made numerous environmental policies and spent lots
of money to stop environmental pollution and protect the environment. In China,
China s leaders were putting, even more, emphasis on the companies who make
chemical production, especially after chemical disasters in recent years. Although
China has made great process in supervision pollution, the serious gaps still exist in
hazardous materials oversight in China.
Recently, there was uproar among Chinese families after a report of China Central
Television, and the report revealed that about 500 students at Changzhou Foreign
Languages School had developed illnesses because of pollution at school.
This media watch summarizes three important news reports about the pollution at

from the Changzhou Foreign Languages School had developed illnesses, and even a
few students had leukemia, possibly due to the pollution around the school. Although
pupils and their guardians at the new campus of Changzhou
Foreign Languages School had reflected this problem to the local government

The Doctor Who Was An Angel
For the last 20 years and counting, I ve concluded she was an angel: the doctor who
found me in my hospital room bleeding to death, in the wee hours after my double
mastectomy reconstruction surgery. She was the shadow standing beside my bed;
who shook me and said, You re bleeding internally. You have to go back to surgery
.
With the little strength I had left in me, I did all the shadow asked of me. Like in
the operation room when I was too near death to be given anesthesia, I swallowed
the tube she asked me to swallow, like a champ, and without choking on it, one bit.
When it was all over, several days later, and I had regained consciousness, there was a
sweet smiling lady doctor, no longer a shadow, who stood in the midst of my three
doctors. Who are you? Where did you come from? I asked the sweet smiling face
behind golden rimmed glasses. From Chicago, she responded to me, facetiously.
No, I plead. Where did you really come from? Which she did answer, but said, Get
some rest. You ve been through a lot. We ll talk soon. (Fast Forward)
I learned a few days after my surgery that I had lost over half of the blood in my
body, and that I should have died. And had it not have been for this shadow/ this
doctor, I would have. But where did she come from? She was not my doctor. She
had no right or reason to come into my hospital room. But one day she came alone
and visited me in my hospital room. And that day she told me the most
Environmental Sanctions And Safety Standards
Introduction
Coal is king. The coal industry controls the economy of states, and states rely on it
for electricity. However, many families involved in the industry of coal are
experiencing profound economic difficulty. This must be resolved to improve the
economic disparity in West Virginia, a state known for a large coalmining industry.
Many mining families experience this economic difficulty, particularly due to health
risks and job situations.
Much research has been done into the effects of a large coal industry. In just the past
twenty years, air pollution from coal plants have shortened the lives of more than
half a million Americans. (Jeff Goodell, 2006). Mining kills; and it even affects those
uninvolved in the production of it. There are a vast amount of environmental
sanctions and safety standards in mines. These are laws and regulations meant to
protect the population, yet most do not follow them correctly. Companies must pay
for all of this, however paying for regulations cuts into profit margins. These
companies manage to still make profit by shutting down deficit mines, but mainly
make up costs by laying off employees. This process results in a never ending cycle
of downtrodden individuals trying to make ends meet. Mining is a neutral party, it
has negatives and positives, both of which impact the Appalachia community
significantly.
Mining has a vast assortment of negatives that are constantly being discussed. Mining

overall food and beverage industry. Dippin Dots founder Curt Jones hit one plateau
in the late 1990s and developed a franchising system to try to reach the next level.
By the end of 2000, franchise agreements were providing a cash flow, and Dippin

Entrepreneur magazine s 2004 list of Top 50 New Franchise Companies. Growing
at a rate of 10 15% annually, by 2004 Dippin Dots was now also available in 800
western region McDonald s stores. Targeting their core demographic of 8 18 year
olds, in 2002 Dippin Dots started running print ads in Seventeen and Nickelodeon

franchise growth may create increased brand recognition and put the company on the

In the year 1888, Whitechapel of London was targeted in a stream of ferocious
murders so explicit that it grew to a response that came from all of Victorian
England. The media, police investigators and local civilians were deeply impacted

Simulation Analysis Report On The Company
Simulation Analysis Report As the manager of Starshine (SS) in the M A in Wine
country, the company has faced a dilemma of merge with a similar size company
Bel Vino (BV) or being acquired by the large industrial corporate International
Beverage (IB). This report valuate the deals and make judgement by evaluation.
Finally, it will identify some issues related to the game. 1.Determine the
reservation prices for BV and SS As a seller of SS to BV or IB, the reservation
price for SS should be the minimum price for SS to accept the deal (either the cash
deal offered by IB or the stock deal offered by BV). It is known that the minimum
reservation prices of SS is the market price ($42.9) for cash deal ((Harvard
Business Publishing, 2015). The determination of reservation price for BV needs
to incorporate synergies and control benefits as a buyer. As a result, we will choose
the highest reservation price using valuation methods and that is, $49.83 with the
optimal synergies and WACC method. Though both differed from the average
prices in the class, it is reasonable to suspect individuals neglected the cash deal
option of IB and contributes to the higher reservation price for SS than my
expectation. Also, for the overestimation of reservation price for BV, it is possible
that single valuation methodology may trigger biases to lift up the result from its
fair value. Hence, a weighted average of all valuation for the price may be more
reliable and accurate. 2.Identify the

The Movie Mulan
Mulan is an animated film that was released in 1998 from Disney during third wave
feminism, which features an Asian woman protagonist. She is a Disney princess,
but at first glance you wouldn t think so. Mulan is introduced as a clumsy tomboy
who did not think she would ever bring honor to her family. In order to accomplish
said honor, she would have to by being the perfect bride, in accordance with the
matchmaker. The film has a great amount of feminist ideals, however, it doesn t leave
out stereotypical genderroles and several examples of overdetermined ideologies.
Patriarchy is very prevalent in this film, from the womancharacters positions, down to
the songs they sing throughout the film, patriarchy is a theme that cannot be missed.
This paper will discuss how feminine and masculine stereotypes are conveyed in the
film, how gender stereotypes are portrayed, and of the patriarchal themes included in
the film.
In the beginning, Mulan is being prepared to be sent off to an establishment to
uphold the family honor where she will be put through a series of test to make
sure she is good enough to be a bride by the matchmaker. While she is being
prepped, the seamstress and hair dresser (along with her mother and grandmother)
start singing the song Bring Honor To Us All . The upbeat tune supports the idea
that the only way she could possibly bring honor to her family is by becoming a
quiet, rule following servant with good breeding, and a tiny waist . Also, To make a

How the humble Compact Disc works.
By Michael Eiser
The humble compact disc has served for many generations and is evolving to store
more data and provide more uses. In this article we will discuss how a CD is written,
stores data and how the data is replayed.
To begin with a CD has been made so useful due to capability to secure large amounts
of information in such a way that it is usable for many different things. From military
storage of data, to simple home entertainment, the common CD is much more
prevalent than ever.
When a CD is placed into a drive we know that it plays many different things for us
upon our computer screen. However the process is not all that simple. The original
CD that has not had any information installed yet has already been equipped with
small lines on the CD itself. These lines go along the disc and spiral away from the
center, guiding a laser across a very fine area along the CD. A depiction of the spiral
is shown in figure 1.
Figure 1, spiral away from center of a disc. This thin line if stretched out would
measure approximately 8 kilometers. When the CD has had data stored upon it
there are a series of bumps and pits within these strands as seen in figure 2. Each
bump and pit is the form of data stored on the disc. The computer reads these
alterations on the disc as either one or zero. Or is in the form of Binary Code
That is the summary of how a compact disc is looks visually, but how is data stored

Satire In Family Guy
Satire is constantly evolving in order to maintain with the times. As technology,
culture and humanity change and grow, satire is forced to grow with it. Satire of
our modern time is more likely to be found on our phones than on print, more likely
on a television than a telegram. By merging with pop culture, in forms of Family

But, despite the change in medium, the purpose of satire and effect of satire holds
true. Modern satire, just as that of past satire, sheds light on the problems of our

Yeats had artistic influences, due to the fact that his father Jack Butler Yeats was a

he enrolled in Erasmus Smith High School in Dublin. Throughout his schooling he

Together Yeats and Lady Gregory helped to found the Abbey Theater. As the

the world and a center of the Irish Renaissance. Near the Turn of the century Yeats

Allusions In Death In Venice
The reader familiar with ancient Greek mythology will find dozens of allusions to
classical Greek myths in Thomas Mann s Death in Venice. Mann examines an ancient
conflict rooted in classical mythology: the imbalance of Apollonian and Dionysian
qualities. Mann, inspired by writer Friedrich Nietzsche, alludes to the necessity of
balance between Apollonian and Dionysian qualities in an artist in order to produce
balanced and quality art. Mann incorporates Nietzsche s understanding that when
Apollonian and Dionysian qualities are imbalanced, the artist will eventually fail due
to his own self destruction. Mann takes the reader into the mind of Gustav von
Aschenbach, an aging writer who is on the extreme end of Apollonianism.

In the first chapters, Aschenbach takes a walk in Munich and stops by a mortuary
chapel. He sees a tourist with pale skin, red hair, and long teeth standing by a
portico displaying an apocalyptic scene. The man is carrying a walking stick and
wearing a wide brimmed straw hat. The scene fills Aschenbach with a desire to
travel, the first instance where the reader sees his Apollonian side degrading. The
tourist references the Greek god Hermes. Hermes is the god of thieves who travels
between the mortal world and the underworld. He carries dead souls to the
afterlife. Hermes is known for wearing a wide brimmed straw hat and carrying a
staff (Skidmore). The tourist Aschenbach sees is a traveler wearing the same thing
while he is standing in the mortal world underneath a scene of underworld beasts
alluding to being in between two worlds like Hermes. Mann uses this reference to
Hermes to foreshadow Aschenbach taking a journey to the underworld. In Andre von
Gronicka s essay Myth plus Psychology, he suggests that Aschenbach is being lured,
hypnotized into a contract, the terms of which are final and fatal . Despite this
ominous warning, Aschenbach decides to take a vacation to Venice. He boards a
gondola to take him to Venice. The gondola to Venice alludes to the journey to the
underworld by crossing the River Styx. The Hermes reference Aschenbach encounters

People from all over the United States started to enlist help fight the war. Although
Native Americans were previously treated very poorly by the Americans, they too
enlisted in the military. The United States was with the Allied powers of the world
including Britain, France, Soviet Union, China, etc. fighting against the Axis
powers Germany, Italy, and Japan. The military had a unique plan created by
General MacArthur to island hop all the way to Japan, capturing each of those
islands as they went (Page 55). In Sioux Code Talkers of World War II, Page
explains all the different islands throughout the world that the United States had to
take back from the Axis Powers like New Guinea, Leyte, Luzon, and the
Philippines. The United States also saved many people that had been captured by
the Axis Powers. The Santo Tomas Internment Camp in the Philippines was a huge
victory when they were able to save all the people captured within being deprived
of food, water, and shelter; Go to Manila, Go around the nips, bounce off the Nips,
but go to Manila, MacArthur insisted (Page 77). The United States traveled from

They traveled many parts of the World to do so within World War II. America was

Analysis Of Eternal Sunshine Of The Spotless Mind
The film Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind directed by Michel Gondry
follows two ex lovers during their breakup. The protagonist of the movie, Joel
Barish, is a middle aged man living in Long Island that lives a dull life. However,
this all changes as soon as he meets a young woman at a party named Clementine
Kruczynski. Immediately drawn to her colorful personality, clothing, and hair Joel
became engulfed in her, wanting to know all of her interworking s and emotions.
It didn t take long for the two to become romantically involved and begin dating.
The pair were together a while, but they began having frequent altercations and
realized that life may be better without each other. A few weeks after the split Joel
decides that he wanted to get back together with Clementine and visits her place of
work on Valentine s Day. While there, he engages in a conversation with
Clementine but to his surprise she has no recollection of him. Soon after his
encounter with Clementine, Joel learns that his ex girlfriend hired a company to
erase her memory of him. Hurt by the actions of his ex lover, Joel decides to hire
the company to do the same. The rest of the movie then follows the deletion of
Clementine from Joel s memory by revisiting all of their significant moments
together while he is in a sleeplike state. Mid deletion, Joel decides that he has made
a terrible mistake and tries to do everything in his power to prevent wiping the
memories of his beloved. Unfortunately,
Metal Music In The 1940s
In the 1980s there was a seeming uprise of various musical movements branching
off from rock style music. At this time there were many who gained attention by
favoring pop rock music. There were bands Like Rainbow, Uriah Heep and Judas
Priest who considered themselves Metal music however they seemed to favor
commercial rock music to gain popularity and stay on the radar. And then there
was a slowly rising act that was underground for most of the late 1970 s to early
1980 s. This underground movement was known as the New Wave of British
Heavy Metal (NWOBHM). Many of these bands played in local areas and venues in
hopes of gaining money while having fun. These bands were to stay true to metal
music in hopes to make faster and more aggressive... Show more content on

This style is constant in their music and became a popular taste among the young.
This style inspired many to create faster and increasingly vulgar display of music.
Creating a new culture of loyal fans and followers. Iron Maiden brought new things
to the table as often as they could introducing the use of keyboards and new
technologies being used at the time in their music. Iron maiden had a huge impact
on what was known heavy metal in 1980s. Their mascot Eddie the Head became an
iconic symbol associated to heavy metal. Even inspiring new artist to create
mascots of their own. The font used to write their band logo is often used as well
as a pop culture icon when referring to things heavy metal. Their Fast paced music
called for the creation of people known as headbanger given the title for their
iconic headbanging motion when listening to rhythmic and fast paced music. This
movement of headbangers created a culture of Metal fans wearing vulgar clothes
and violent shirts to create a sense of intimidation. The rise of headbangers lead to
the making of faster tempo music. One trying to top the other on how dark and
deep and fast it sounded. The idea of playing songs ideally talking about sensitive
topic, war, violence, and even satanism was all thought about when creating this
type of music for it s what they thought was Bad A . Head banging culture was the
cause for thrash metal and soon the NWOBHM movement began inspiring new
branches of music. All branched off a unique style that came from NWOBHM
whether it be its intimation sense, it s fast paced music, or the lyrics they had for
their songs. This soon led to a drift in music fans in the
Plea Bargaining Case
According to Erlanger several jurisdictions reported that ninety percent of felony
cases ended in guilty pleas during the end of the 19th century (Erlanger, H. S., 2005).
As of now the percentage has dramatically increased and placed many innocent
victims into pleading guilty for a crime they never committed. To scholars such as
Mike McConville and Chester Mirsky, plea bargaining has been viewed as a
legitimizing institution. The court room has approved and encourages defendants to
continue pleading guilty. Changing the meaning and the actual purpose of plea
bargaining the method of punishment has become a challenge in the courtroom
because they do not have to invest unnecessary time on appeals. A study done by

  • 5. Paradise Lost Religion Satan, still within the body of the serpent, offers Eve a multitude of reasons why she should eat from the Tree of Knowledge, despite God s warnings. He tells her the fruit will not kill her as God says, for he ate of the fruit and is not only alive, but made even more powerful. In his most prevalent argument, Satan attempts to demonstrate to Eve that the act of eating has the ability to become a transformative experience. Though ultimately true, the transformation that Satan describes occurs far differently than the one she and Adam actually receive. In Christianity, food acts as such a significant force that Satan can almost seamlessly trick Eve into eating the forbidden fruit. Food and eating is so powerful throughout theology, that Eve can effortlessly envision its potential as a vehicle to transform her from an earthly human to a godlike being. Upon Eve s initial consumption of the illicit fruit, one of her leading thoughts becomes that the fruit may render me... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In the story of creation expressed in Paradise Lost , Milton depicts how food can act as a way to transform a person of innocence into one defined largely by depravity. Within his story, Milton communicates the fall of man through the act of consumption. Reversely, man s ability to achieve redemption is also profoundly contingent on food. In religiously sanctioned eating, such as the Holy Communion, food can act to aid one s relationship with God. By participating in the Eucharist and other godly ways of consumption, man becomes able to rebuild and restore the relationship with God that became corrupt after Adam and Eve ate from the Tree of Knowledge. In Christian faith, everything hinges on God s interpretation. If God gives a regulation, whether that regulation present itself in the form of food or not, man s level of ability and willingness to follow that decree largely defines his spiritual

With this class, we have been inspired to look past our own planet to the future opportunities the the stars hold. Just as this class has lit the fire of adventure for space in us, our group went to Legacy High School to present to both of Mr. Wold s AVID class, pictured below, where we tried to inspire the group of seniors about the wonder of space before they took their next step in life. To do this, we presented on one of space s biggest mysteries, Black Holes. The presentation was broken into six slides with each member presenting two of the slides. The slide that was done by Joyce Kruger was the basic intro where we got the audience thinking about our topic. We would first ask the audience Do you know what we are presenting on today and most of them would raise their hands because we had already told them what we re talking about and we wanted them to raise their hands. Once their hands were up we would then pick someone with their hand up and ask them what a black holeis in their opinion. We wanted to get a couple kids to say their opinion just to get a baseline on what they already know. Then we would introduce the definition of a black hole and compare it to what the kids said. We would wrap up this slide by talking about how black holes were made. This was a good segway into Paul s section on the
  • 9. Mackie s Argument Against God From Evil Argument Against God From Evil The strongest argument against God is Mackie s argument from evil. The argument against God from evil focuses on disproving God by exposing the contradictions that arise from the image of God held by most theologians and the existence of evil. This argument takes a reductio ad absurdum approach meaning it uses a false or contradictory conclusion to show that a sound argument cannot be derived from the given premises. The beliefs held by most monotheistic religions, which are the foundation of our premises, would be that: God exist, God is wholly good, and God is omnipotent. The problem stems from the fact that in the presence of evil, which exist irrefutably, being omnipotent and wholly good is incompatible. This contradiction is more easily seen once the terms have been defined. In this sense, to be wholly good is to always remove as much evil as possible, and to be omnipotent is to be able to do anything. From this it follows that if God is real, God has the power to do anything, and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... That being said, God s gift of free will to humanity is often used as the prime example as to why evil exist. Free will, theologian s would argue, is among the greatest goods, but for humans to truly have free will they must also have the choice to do evil. This argument is flawed however. The theologian would argue that free will and not being able to do evil is incompatible and therefore not possible, but God himself is a testament to the opposite. God being wholly good, would not freely choose to do evil, and assuming no theologian would argue that God has no free will, it must follow that it is possible to have free will and not do any evil. If that premise is true, and we recall that God being omnipotent can do anything that is possible, it must follow that God could have and would have made humans without the ability to cause evil if he

Statistics show the odds of a black male going to prison is much higher than those of a white male; 1 in 3 African American males is expected to go to prison in his lifetime, compared to 1 in 17 white males. I believe this is a major reason society believes so much injustice is done to the African American
  • 14. Skepticism in the Modern World Philosophical skepticism, according to Scottish philosopher David Hume, is asking whether human beings can perceive the world around us with any degree of accuracy. Practicing this school of thought means that a person initially never believes anything to be true, but at the same time, does not say everything is necessarily false; instead, he maintains a position of doubt. The final source of truthfor a skeptic is experience. In terms of skepticismvs. rationalism vs. romanticism and their usage today, the school of skepticism is the strongest way of thinking, drawing the best conclusions. Rationalism, which uses reasonand logic for its basis, is flawed, according to skeptics, in that their rational thought is swayed by desires. As for romanticism, which moves away from the emphasis on science and focuses more on the freedom and creativity of mind (and idealism, where reality varies per person), it is not always applicable in a world that seeks definite answers. In today s world, it is necessary for people to maintain a skeptical attitude towards life. Without the kind of doubt skepticism entails, people can be constantly deceived. Take, for example, a man who is on the Internet and finds interesting ad with appealing claims. These ads, some of them, at least, can be fake and be part of some criminal or company s scheme to make money; however others can be real. If the man were to think skeptically, he would remain wary because ads have the potential

Throughout the movie Norman stretches his normally closed communication patterns as he grows to care for Billy. Evidently Norman is able to transcend his old pattern of shutting everyone out. He learns that he must be willing to disclose a bit about himself if he wants a relationship with Billy. • 21. The Relationship Between Old Age And Older Age Recently, there has not been much written about the relationship between art and aging, or aging artists. We face an aging population, meaning the average age is rising, and there are more elderly people in proportion to young people. In order to better care for and understand the growing elderly population, there must be research and advancements made in all areas pertaining to human growth, longevity, quality of life, and wellbeing. Past research has shown that art and art related activities are beneficial to elderly people, however this topic should be revisited in order to bring attention to the benefits of the artistic process and encourage elderly participation. In the sixteenth century, artists were severely limited by the effects of old age. In her article on the effects of aging on sixteenth century artists, Erin Campbell (2002) explores the pressures placed on artists by both physical decline and by art critics. According to Campbell (2002), the social expectations of the time required artists to give up art as a profession; a push largely influenced by art critics. Artists who grew old and were not hindered by the physical aspects of age and continued to produce work for sale were heavily criticized (Campbell, 2002). Your perspective is influenced by your upbringing, education, beliefs, and the generation you belong to. With the little strength I had left in me, I did all the shadow asked of me. • 25. Environmental Sanctions And Safety Standards Introduction Coal is king. The coal industry controls the economy of states, and states rely on it for electricity. However, many families involved in the industry of coal are experiencing profound economic difficulty. This must be resolved to improve the economic disparity in West Virginia, a state known for a large coalmining industry. Many mining families experience this economic difficulty, particularly due to health risks and job situations. Much research has been done into the effects of a large coal industry. In just the past twenty years, air pollution from coal plants have shortened the lives of more than half a million Americans. (Jeff Goodell, 2006). Mining kills; and it even affects those uninvolved in the production of it. There are a vast amount of environmental sanctions and safety standards in mines. These are laws and regulations meant to protect the population, yet most do not follow them correctly. Companies must pay for all of this, however paying for regulations cuts into profit margins. These companies manage to still make profit by shutting down deficit mines, but mainly make up costs by laying off employees. This process results in a never ending cycle of downtrodden individuals trying to make ends meet. Mining is a neutral party, it has negatives and positives, both of which impact the Appalachia community significantly. Mining has a vast assortment of negatives that are constantly being discussed. This report valuate the deals and make judgement by evaluation. Finally, it will identify some issues related to the game. 1.Determine the reservation prices for BV and SS As a seller of SS to BV or IB, the reservation price for SS should be the minimum price for SS to accept the deal (either the cash deal offered by IB or the stock deal offered by BV). It is known that the minimum reservation prices of SS is the market price ($42.9) for cash deal ((Harvard Business Publishing, 2015). The determination of reservation price for BV needs to incorporate synergies and control benefits as a buyer. As a result, we will choose the highest reservation price using valuation methods and that is, $49.83 with the optimal synergies and WACC method. Though both differed from the average prices in the class, it is reasonable to suspect individuals neglected the cash deal option of IB and contributes to the higher reservation price for SS than my expectation. Also, for the overestimation of reservation price for BV, it is possible that single valuation methodology may trigger biases to lift up the result from its fair value. Hence, a weighted average of all valuation for the price may be more reliable and accurate. 2.Identify the
