The informative mentor text this week was on The Perfect Body. A short article
on the media projecting what their ideas of the perfect body are. Tall and skinny
women and bulked up men. You see these kind of people in magazines, on
television and even on video games. I believe the purpose of the article was to help
people realize that many people have things they don t like about their own bodies
and in fact, two out of every five girls and one out of every five boys are

his adventures while traveling, and his recounting of the tale to the narrator and
friends gathered in his home.
Key Idea 1 The beginning of the book is very intriguing, pulling readers into the
book and making them want to read more. The book begins in the Time Traveler s
home, where he and his guests are having dinner and discussing his theories about
time and time travel. When the Time Traveler tells the guests he can actually do it,

December 18, 2017 Francisco Goya s 1799 etching titled, The Sleep of Reason
Produces Monsters has the ability to demonstrates how we as individuals grow and
become more in tune with ourselves when we dream. Goya was a Spanish romantic
painter who reached success in 1786. He suffered an illness that left him
completely deaf around 1792, but still continued to produce spectacular art works.
One of Goya s most known works is The Sleep of Reason Produces Monsters,
which is number 43 in a collection of 80 etchings. Francisco Goya was known for
creating art pieces that reflected his attitude towards the society he lived in, and
this etching can represent that. To give some brief background information, Spain
was at war when he created this piece, and the Spanish Inquisition s suppression
also played a role in why he created pieces of work that expressed his thoughts on
society. Francisco Goya started off as a painter for the nobility. His works
consisted of portraits of the wealthy showing them at their best with bright, vivid
colors. Goya paid much attention to his surroundings such as all the brutality from
the Inquisition and the casualties of war. He saw it as unjust and decided to speak
on it through his art pieces. His later works consisted of colors that were dull and
monotonous, filled with dark and grey because he was trying to reflect how he was
feeling emotionally.
Goya s 1799 etching is a self portrait. The viewer can see him sleeping on a desk
while ominous animals fly over him. The inference of Goya dreaming can be made
from the fact that he is sleeping. I like to interpret his etching as if the animals that
surround him are actually his dreams. The owls and bats that fly around Goya can
represent his dreams roaming around in his head. Goya was aware that his dreams
were not accepted by the society so this can be the reasoning for why he disguises his
thoughts as bats and owls, creatures that represent evil.
When we dream, we are metaphorically free. While in our deep sleep, we get to
venture to other worlds,back in time, or to the future even. We get to become

The Nonfiction Revolution By Connie Matthiessen
With the new common core established, researchers believed that nonfiction or
information works should be implemented into the classes starting at a young age.
They believed this will help improve students chances of being more well equipped
for college. Even though fictional works will be used less frequently, it will help the
students understand how they will progress in college. Nonfiction has been highly
disregarded as irrelevant, compared to fiction, until this new common core came into
play. Before this standard was established when preparing for the future, fiction based
works put many college students at a disadvantage when most colleges and

foundation of knowledge in these fields that will give them the background to be
