Crafting an essay on the theme of "Personal Statement Essay Samples" can prove to be a
formidable task. The difficulty arises not only from the need to express one's thoughts
coherently but also from the unique challenge of delving into personal experiences and
reflections. To strike the right balance between self-disclosure and maintaining a professional
tone requires a delicate artistry in writing. It demands a nuanced understanding of one's own
narrative, the ability to highlight strengths without sounding boastful, and the skill to articulate
aspirations without appearing overly ambitious.
Moreover, the challenge extends beyond mere self-expression; it involves the daunting task of

vulnerability and resilience is crucial, and finding the appropriate tone that resonates with the

Comida Con Causa Research Paper
May 29, 2018
Fulgencio Batista was president of Cuba from 1940 to 1944. During his time in
office he expanded the educational system, sponsored a huge program of public
works, and brought up the growth of the economy (Britannica). In 1952 he ran for
president again but this time put together a coup because he believed he wouldn t
win. The coup overthrew the current president, Carlos Prio Socarras, and made
Batista dictator. As Fulgencio Batistagained more power he became more corrupt,
forgetting his roots, and negatively impacting the poor of Cuba.
Batista was born into a life of poverty on January 16, 1901 (Rutgers). He was the
son Belisario Batista Palermo, a sugar cane cutter and Carmela Zaldivar Gonzalez,
a stay at home mom. He grew up with three younger brothers, Francisco,
Hermelindo, and Juan Batista in Banes, a small city in the Holguin Province of
Cuba. They lived in a bohio meaning a small hut or shack in La Guira one of Banes
poorer neighborhoods (Rutgers). At age eight he was forced to quit school and join

But his childhood came to a sudden end when his mother died from a sudden
illness just before her thirtieth birthday in 1916 (Rutgers). His father then decided
to move the family to a local sugar plantation where he and his two oldest sons
worked in the fields (Rutgers). His father might have moved because he wanted to
take his sons mind off there mother s death. After being at the plantation for a
while, Batista was moved to an office job where he worked as a bookkeeper and a
cane weigher (Rutgers). After the sugar harvest Belisario (Batista s father) brought
the family back to the bohio in La Guira. But because of the pain he still had from
his mother s death, Batista decided to leave the family home and start working in the
cane fields, docks, and railroads (Famous
3. Notes On The And Binary Conversion
6. Gray to Binary Conversion A binary image is the matrix comprising of only 0
s(black) and 1 s(white). It can be implemented by using the command im2bw in
MATLAB. Thresholding concept has been used in this algorithm. The threshold
concept works by choosing a threshold value, T, automatically and then extract (or
separate) object from background. The threshold function of the binary image is
defined as g(x,y) = {█(a,if (x,y) T@b,if (x,y)≤T)┤ Pixels having a value
correspond to object and pixels with b value correspond to background. Usually,
a=1 (white) and b=0(black) by convention. When T is a constant applicable over an
entire image, the above equation is referred to as Global thresholding. In the
algorithm, global thresholding concept is used. Enhanced image is converted into
binary format by using the command im2bw and the resultant image is shown
below Fig. 11 Gray to Binary conversion 7. Morphological Operations
Morphological operators take a binary image and structuring element as an input
and combine them using a set operator such as union and intersection. Structuring
element have dimension of 3*3 and its origin is at the center pixel. The pixels of
the structuring element are compared with each pixel of an image. If it matches the
condition defined by the set operator then the pixel is set to a pre defined value (0
or 1 for binary images). There are two basic types of morphological operator, which
is used in this algorithm. 7.1 Dilation Dilation
4. Critique Of Pure Reason, By Immanuel Kant
To begin with, biology recognizes that species that adapt to the external conditions of
their environment survive and those that do not adapt do not survive. Considering
that the human species have done so well in surviving, our cognitive abilities have
helped us develop strategies against this harsh environment. According to Immanuel
Kant, he acknowledges that reason is based on experience. And both play a role in
constructing our knowledge, this is referred to as a synthetic a posterior knowledge.
With this, humans are able to understand the reality they are facing no matter what
type of situation they are in. It is true that our minds must conform to reality rather
than our experience of reality conforming to the structure of the mind. The... Show

However, Kant insists that to find certainty within experience the mind has to
organize it in a way that is necessary to apply it in a universal way. This way, the
mind can have a chance to construct the objects found in the experience out of the
raw materials, founded by the senses. To explain what Kant is referring too, he
considers sense perception as intuitions. These intuitions are based on the mind s
direct awareness. Like in the article that was previously stated, Hermann also
found that humans have skills that have enabled them to create different cultural
groups, each operating with a distinctive set of artifacts, symbols, and social
practices in order to see the difference between each diverse group, direct
awareness must be achieved (Hermann et al 1360). To be able to perceive a set of
artifacts, for example, to perceive the redness of a cloak, the two powers of sensory
interpretation must be applied and those are sensibility and

The duties and roles that have to be carried out by a resource developer are
explained by the figure above. Individual needs of every student have to be
identified and plans have to be developed in order to satisfy the learning needs of
all learners. The next step is to design the resources according to the individual
needs that are identified and deliver those resources to the learners. Once the task in
completed by the learners the resource developer then can assess their performance
which will automatically enable the resource developed to identify the effectiveness
of his resources. According to the information given by Turkish online journal of
education technology (2009), two student groups are surveyed where one group of
students provided with the lower level of teaching resources while second group of
students are provided with the higher level of teaching resources. The surveys
identified that the students who are provided with higher level of teaching resources
have got much more positive outcome comparing to the other group of students. We
have found that when technologies are thoughtfully integrated with a sound
pedagogical vision, students views of teaching and approaches to learning can be
positively affected. The LeTUS report series (2003) also shows how important it is

6. Essay about The Life and Literary Works of Shirley Jackson
Shirley Jackson was born on December 14, 1919 to Leslie and Geraldine Jackson.
Her surroundings were comfortable and friendly. Two years after Shirley was born,
her family with her newborn brother moved from San Francisco to Burlingame,
California, about thirty miles away. According to her mother, Shirley began to
compose verse almost as soon as she could write it (Friedman, 18). As a child, Shirley
was interested in sports and literature. In 1930, a year before she attended
Burlingame High School, Shirley began writing poetry and short stories. Jackson
enrolled in the liberal arts program at the University of Rochester in 1934. But after

In 1940, after their graduation Hyman and Jackson, who had a relationship, were
married. While living in Vermont, Jackson continued to write. One of her earliest
times in Vermont later became material for her first book about the family, Life
Among the Savages. Between 1945 and 1947, Jackson was occupied with her first
novel, The Road Through the Wall. But it was in 1948 that her greatest success was
achieved. The publication of the short story, The Lottery , brought fame, as well as
letters from readers all over the country. But more often there were abusive letters
from people who did not understand her motives or what she was trying to do. A
year later a book entitled, The Lottery , was published containing an assortment of
short stories including The Lottery. The critics by that time, had decided that Shirely
Jackson was a writer of much talent and uniqueness. Even though Jackson was
raising four children while her husband went to work, she still found time to write.
Sometimes when a story idea would come to her, she would bolt off to her
typewriter. Instead of fighting writing, as other writers do; she found the opposite;
that writing was relaxing.
In 1949, the Hymans moved to Westport, Connecticut. As usual she worked hard. Six

Challenges faced when managing change
The making of changes within an organization in a planned, systematic, and managed
fashion is referred to as managing change. The main aim of managing change is to
effectively implement new systems or methods in the organization. Managing change
involves managing the employees and managing the impact of change on employees.
To ensure an organization keeps up with changing times, it is important for the
organization to change.

kinds of employees, the sheep, resistors, and change champions. The most difficult
people to manage are the resistors. These employees worry so much about how the
change will impact them negatively. They see the change will expose them to the top

leader, the best way to deal with resistors is to let them know that change will

10. Differenc Lindemann s Feminist Analysis
Lindemann begins with a discussion of what feminism is. She considers two kinds of
definitions that are commonly given of the concept, and ultimately rejects both of
them in favor of a third. First, she notes that many people take it that feminism is a
пїЅmovement that aims to make women the social equals of men.пїЅ Lindemann
thinks that this understanding of feminismis defective in a variety of ways. First, it
treats men and women in abstraction, which is problematic. Secondly, the definition
itself treats men as a standard by which women need to measure themselves. One
attempt to avoid these difficulties is by attending directly to women. It is difficult,
though, to explain exactly what it is that makes one a пїЅwoman.пїЅ Gender, after all,
is not a biological property. If one explains being a woman simply in terms of being
different in certain aspects from a man, then one has still grounded feminism by
reference to men. If, on the other hand, one attempts to ground a feminist framework
on the positive differences between men and women, then a separate problem arises:

Gender, Lindemann argues, is primarily normative; it yields prescriptions for how
one ought to behave, and it does so through a variety of channels. Importantly, gender
operates simultaneously alongside other power relations in order to yield what is a
fairly complex final power distribution. Lindemann indentifies the feminist project as
one that attempts to пїЅunderstand, criticize, and correct how gender operates within
our moral beliefs and practices.пїЅ The domain of the feminist ethicist, as Lindemann
understands it, is the domain of power relations пїЅ both legitimate and illegitimate.
In order to properly understand the domain, the feminist ethicist is firstly concerned
with arriving at a proper description of how power differences are at work in our
lives. Following this, she is able to make normative claims in light of the descriptive

Throughout history, women have been portrayed as the weaker sex. As a result of
these unfair social assumptions, women have been working hard to dissociate
themselves from this stereotype and become more independent with their lives. In the
story The Chrysanthemums by John Steinbeck, he describes Elisa Allens frustration
with her marriage, her sense of isolation from the world, and her hidden desires to
express herself as a woman and to explore her sexuality by living a more passionate
life.

life Elisa Allen would like to experience. He is described as a big, bearded and
greying man with an attractive presence, whose eyes are dark and full of brooding.
He lives his life on the road, traveling the country and making what little money he
can from his loyal customers by fixing their pots and knives. After entering Elisa s
yard, he repeatedly asks if she has anything he can fix. She refuses him a job and
becomes very irritated, The irritation and resistance melted from Elisa s face (263).
But when the peddler admires her flowers, she grew eager and alert (263), and feels
like he admires her. She tears off the battered hat and shook out her dark pretty hair
(263). She decides to allow the peddler into her world by giving him some sprouts of
chrysanthemums in a pot for the customer that he claims is interested in
chrysanthemums. By giving him the sprouts, she gives him the symbol of her inner
self. Her enthusiasm for her flowers is a very feministic characteristic. She gives the
peddler a job and he leaves. The fact that others might be interested in her passion for
gardening gives her the idea that she may have a distinct
13. Italian Immigrants Holiday Traditions
Americans have become so accustomed to holiday traditions today that the meaning
of how they arrived here has been lost. Immigrants of Italy brought to America their
family centered culture of celebrating these holidays. Their culture was so
influencing that villages for the Italians were actually formed. The Italians celebrated
numerous holidays in Italy; most celebrations included their fine foods and wine.
Although, after the immigrants arrived in America they no longer observed many of
the holidays that they did in Italy.
The Italians holiday culture helped to make America a more diverse nation. Their
family centered culture and regional affiliations resulted in highly concentrated
settlements called, Little Italies. Entire villages in Italy would travel over to
America to form these settlements. Many were heavily clustered in cities in the
mid atlantic and midwest states. The immigrants typically viewed themselves as
residents of a particular region or village, not as Italians. Their daily habits and life
reflected this, as they usually only associated with fellow kin or villagers called
paesani. The Italians were working on becoming a member of American society
while still trying to maintain their old customs. During holidays, Italian immigrants
still utilized traditional customs such as folk songs, folklore, and dances for special
events. However, like so many of the Italian aspects of life, they were so regionally
specific that they defied easy characterization.
14. The Bridal Chamber
In due course, after a person s awakening, to this profound knowledge of self, if
pursued, another acquaintance to this deeper meaning transforms. As described in
another Gnostic text, explains people s divine sexual positions. In the Acts of
Thomas, the word marriage becomes the main focus for quite a number of times, and
relates to a place called the bridal chamber stating, Looking to receive that
incorruptible and true marriage, and ye shall be therein groomsmen entering into the
bridal chamber which is full of immortality and light. Again, one more text called the
Gospel According to Thomas (separate texts) references one s relationship with God
and writes, There are many at the door. But only the solitary ones shall enter the
Bridal Chamber (75).... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Seemingly, the bridal chamber resides within a person s mind and sexual
composition; an awakening of God s presence, the essence of God Divine within a
spiritual marriage of atonement with His/her creation. People s Divine Particle of
God becomes a gift a masterpiece of one s true identity. The love of God excels
through the connection with one s spirit by means of the work of art of the Holy
of Holies; which is the bridal chamber of one s being. (68). Although, the texts of
the Gospel According to Thomas, the Acts of Thomas and the Gospel of Judas
provide concepts to consider, another Gnostic book called the Gospel According to
Philip, (dating before A.D. 350 ) amplifies this perception further regarding one s
sacred connections. It expounds on one s sexual being through references involving
the bride and bridegroom within the bridal chamber, while emphasizing the
differences between Divine and defiled marriages; particularly centering on
intercourse. Fittingly, Philip tells God s people that enter the bridal chamber will
kindle the light; which parallels people s regular
15. A Study On Anterograde Amnesia
Anterograde amnesia, as described earlier, is an inability to form lasting memories
after some disturbance to the brain, such as a brain injury or degenerative brain
disease. The revelation of the H.M. case was the identification of the medial temporal
lobes as memory consolidation and storage centers. Within the medial temporal lobes,
the hippocampushas been identified specifically as a brain area involved in learning
new information (Gluck, 2014). To put it another way, people with damage to the
hippocampus will have difficulty forming new memories because they won t be able
to learn new things. The hippocampus helps to integrate objects in a spatial and
temporal context. Episodic and semantic memory forming is impaired, otherwise
known as declarative memory, though the person can remember declarative memory
from the past. The process of encoding, storage consolidation, and retrieval seems to
go through the medial temporal lobe with the hippocampus playing a key role. In
anterograde amnesia, the consolidation process is damaged. Thus, in the short term
new information can be learned, but since it is not consolidated, it can t be retrieved,
so it is forgotten (Webbe slides). Additionally, damage to the basal forebrain can
cause anterograde amnesia. This is because the basal forebrain sends
neurotransmitters to the hippocampus to tell it whether and when to process and
store information (Gluck, 2014). In this way, the hippocampus is the main brain
structure involved so

A community is a group of people who work together towards a common goal and
share a common interest. Lack of such a quality can and most likely will cause a
struggling town or city to fall into the extremes of poverty and wealth. The New
England community was so strong and so supportive in comparison to that of the
Chesapeake Bay, that it is no wonder they developed into two distinctly different
cultures before the year 1700. The Chesapeake region developed into a land of
plantations and money driven owners, with the elite wealthy, almost no middle class,
and those in poverty creating the population. New England, on the other hand, had
developed into a religion and family based society comprised of mostly middle class
families by 1700.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The motives that drove the Pilgrims and Puritans away from anything familiar and
the trust they placed in God only proved that they were going to make their life in
the new world work, no matter what. Not everyone in England was facing a harsh
persecution; many travelers came to the New World with high hopes of money,
which led to numerous conflicts. It was a land for the rich to get richer. Most of the
settlers bound for Virginia and the Southern colonies had a get rich or die trying
type of attitude. The only thing tearing them from home was a flimsy promise of
gold that may or may not be there. The motive of such people is so radically
different. There were no pacts of agreement, no common laws that kept them in a
community once landing. This led the men to never develop any sense of belonging
with their fellow men, causing a distinct survival society by 1700. Every man was
for himself. It was a bitter game displaying the survival of the richest.
The travelers from England that headed for the Chesapeake Bay were
predominantly men, which led to an unbalanced society and lack of wives to
promote a family based culture. The passenger list for one boat had a sex ratio of
sixty four men to eleven women. Not only was there a radical imbalance, only four
of the men were above forty, while only eight total were above thirty (Doc. C). That
left fifty six young males headed to a new land with only their self government of a

Mark Twain the writer of The Celebrated Jumping Frog of the Calaveras Country
and Charles Dickens the author of The Baron of Grogzwig , both presented
disjunction as a literary technique to evoke a numerous response from their readers.
Disjunction was seen in Mark Twain s story during the part when the story started in
a way the narrator was in search for Leonidas Smiley and ended up getting
information about Jim Smiley. Just as the Baron who wanted to die but ended up
realizing that it was not worth it. For me, this literary technique caught the attention
of most readers. In the story of The Celebrated Jumping Frog of the Calaveras
Country, symbolism, personification and flashback may be seen too. Mark Twain,
used the real politicians and symbolized them using animals that would fit their
own characteristics. Personification can be seen when the story of Jim Smiley was
told, one perfect example was when the frog Daniel Webster was educated and the
literary technique that was used so much was flashback when Jim Smiley s story
was told. The Celebrated Jumping Frog of the Calaveras Country by Mark Twain was

During the past years nation branding has gained popularity in many countries of the
world. Essential Costa Rica has bolstered the country s general image through
promoting societal sectors such as tourism, exports, and commitment to sustainability.
This country brand will provide increased competitiveness in relation to other
countries, therefore improving the socio economic status of Costa Rica as a country,

20. Fiffteen by William Stafford
The poem Fifteen by William Stafford, describes the ideas of a young teenager and
imaginations when he sees a motorcycle at the side of the rail, It tells us of how the
main character gets familiar with adulthood and starts getting mature, it gives us
changes. The author in his poem describes the ideas and temptations that a fifteen
year old would have, and it gives us a message of how when you are blinded of your
teenage dreams, at the same time to take and decide the correct paths and decisions.
In the first stanza William Stafford stops realization. He describes a motorcycle
below a bridge. The cycle is abandoned, engine running as it lay on its side, ticking
over slowly in the high grass. To begin his poem Stafford gives... Show more content

But the boy finds the cycle unexpectedly, he did not know or even awaited it. In the
second stanza it connects temptation and imagination. The cycle becomes his
forbidden imagination, it has a pulsing gleam...shiny flanks...demure headlights
fringed where it lay; it is arousing him. First with its beauty it s pulsing and shiny. It
s elegant and bright as described in the second stanza . Then it s interest, he led it
gently to the road and stood with that companion, ready and friendly. It draws him
in. And for the first part he s taken with it. He admired it. He stood with it. He was
young and he saw the beauty as something he wanted. He was a teenager after all
chasing his dream. These moments are him being a child this is him before the
good man from later in the poem. You can tell he is taken with it from the way he
gently leads it to the road, he is taking care of it. You are not gentle with things that
you think are not needed or that you dislike. One does not describe these things
either as having a pulsing gleam. Possibly freedom and perhaps bliss are shown in
stanza three. The character is imagining himself on the open road. He s picturing
taking the motorcycle and riding away on it. It gives to speculation if he, being
fifteen can even legally drive one, let alone that would then surely be considered
stealing. Assuming that he s not there appears the forbidden imagination
21. Diction In Billy Collins Introduction To Poetry
A poet hopes that people would appreciate their poem in a way that it is not
mistreating the work s value. In the poem Introduction to poetry Billy Collins
describes his desires on how students should connect with poems. Collins states that
students try to force out meanings out of poems instead of diving in to understand its
true nature. The author creates a sensitive yet aggressive tone to convey two ways of
poetryappreciation through his use of diction, personification and metaphor.
In the poem, Collins diction demonstrates actions that people often do when they are
frustrated to show his he feels as a poet, when students do not properly analyze a
poem. He uses words such as press or Drop to highlight actions he seeks from

He used the idea of going into the poem by stating that people should press an ear
against it or that they should drop themselves into the poem. The way the author
describes this actions reflects the sincere and aggressive tone in the poem and ways
he appreciates poems.
Throughout the poem Introduction to poetry Collins explains his expectations as
a poet about how people can appreciate a poem in a sense that is proper. He
compares his suggestions with the reality of how students appreciate poems, which
he describes to be very violent. He uses devices such as diction, personification and
metaphor to illustrate two ways people appreciate poetry. One way is describe as his
desires while the other is the reality, which is a violent

When film studios began reconsidering the fantasy genre, they began to see the
potential in The Wizard of Oz (Stillman Scarfone, pg. 21). The film exceeded all

24. Paradox Of Nudity On Television
Examining the Paradox of Nudity in American Broadcast Television
Introduction
In contemporary culture, television has become ubiquitous. These machines are
everywhere, from our homes to stores and even classrooms. While all of us may not
be television junkies, many of us do occasionally watch a show here and there. The
issue of what can be shown on broadcast television has been at the center of
conversation for years, especially the issue of airing nudity on television. Ask anyone
who watched Superbowl XXXVIII in 2004 what the final score was and they may not
remember, but they will definitely remember what happened during the halftime
show, when Janet Jackson s breast was exposed to the entire American audience due
to a wardrobe malfunction. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For instance, in the 1950 s there were complaints of starlets plunging necklines that
prompted broadcast television networks to create their own indecency rules
(Triplett, pg. 230). Fast forward to today s era of television and there is the overall
performance of the Superbowl halftime show, where there Jackson s outfit reveals
cleavage and there tends to be no controversy over her plunging neckline. So while
moral values may have declined in America, going to the extreme, such as airing a
bare breast, is still too much for some Americans to withstand. According to
information found by Triplett, more than 530,000 complaints were made to the FCC
after the Superbowl incident (n.p.). From that, plunging necklines have now become
acceptable, but revealing a bare breast still causes great controversy, even when it
was just an accident. The sexuality that arises from the event is what is fueling the
debate over nudity in television, which leads in to my next point that the general
American society perceives nudity as

Serving as a Human Resources Manager for a rapidly growing organization in
Southern California often proves to be both challenging and rewarding. The
organization I happily work for, New American Funding (NAF) is one of the nation s

me for the role with NAF.
When I was interviewed for the role as human resources manager, I was lead to

fact that the mortgage industry experienced cyclical changes, but I was informed our
company didn t experience change like most in the industry. I have learned so much
being with NAF.
In 2013 NAF experienced unsurmountable change, the company hired 699 people,
unfortunately we also had a Reduction in Force due to the change in the market and
mortgage rate increases. This created a huge difference in our call center division
and we were forced to eliminate positions. In 2013 between hires, terminations,
resignations and reduction in force position eliminations, the Human Resources
Department had nearly 1200 employee transactions. Performance management was
crucial to the vast changes that we experienced as a company. Opening new
branches and ensuring that the recruiting efforts aligned with our company goals,
vision and mission. The planning of benefits and pay was rapidly adjusted as well
as learning new state regulations opening new branch locations in Washington,
Colorado, Texas, Nevada, and Arizona in 2013 alone. Being present, accountable
and informed is not only necessary for my role; it is required to ensure that I can
build rapport with my employees.

26. The Value Of Societal Order In The Crucible By Arthur
Miller
Societal order entails an organized structure of rules and practices in a society
intended to preserve the life and safety of its citizens. Individual freedom refers to
the ability of an individual to speak or behave as one pleases within the law
without being discriminated or attacked for one s words or actions. Under most
circumstances, these two values of societal order and individual freedom can co
exist hand in hand without difficulty. However, sometimes a dilemma will arise
when these two values come into conflict, and one value must be chosen while the
other is sacrificed. We see this pattern many times over the course of history, even
today. More often than not, individual freedom is sacrificed to maintain societal
order. Arthur Miller s The Crucible illustrates this viewpoint by his example of the
Salem witch trials of the late 17th... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The witch trials began with the accusation of several girls for practicing witchcraft.
During the trial, they shift the blame of their actions onto witchcraft itself, or the
witch archetype, claiming that they were being controlled against their will. This
creates a fear of witches in Salem, inspiring the famed witch hunt. The sacrifice of
the witches occurred to ensure the societal order and the safety of the rest of the
town, even if many who were accused of being witches were actually innocent.
Miller argues a valid point, that when one must choose between societal order and
freedom, it is the freedom of some individuals or groups that will usually be
repressed. This conflict and the sacrifice of personal freedom persists even in the
21st century, as we continue to see similar cases in which groups of people have their
freedom sacrificed for the sake of societal

Tangible evidence may relate to issues like the construction of Olympic village

Two of the poems written by Seamus Heaney, Digging and Blackberry Picking ,
contain recurring themes while both discussing entirely different scenes. The first
poem, Digging , talks about Heaney s memories of hearing his father digging in
the potato garden outside the house. The second poem, Blackberry Picking ,
carries a similar solemn tone, while describing another memory of Heaney s of his
experience with picking blackberries. These poems by Heaney share similar themes
of reflection of his past experiences in which he dissects important life lessons from
everyday events such as the passage of time and the uncertainty of life. Imagery is a
common form of technique used in poetry in which the author uses visualization to
demonstrate a vivid scene for the readers. In the poem, Digging , he discusses his
father s aging figure and recreates the feeling of the passage of time by mentioning
his grandfather digging in a similar fashion. When Heaney says, Till his straining
rump among the flowerbeds; Bends low, comes up twenty years away , he is most
likely referring to a past memory of his father, indicating he has passed away
twenty years ago. Heaney vividly remembers his father digging, and compares his
father s digging to his own penmanship when he says at the beginning of the poem,
Between my finger and my thumb/ The squat pen rests; snug as a gun. , and at the
end of the poem when he says, Between my

Abstract
The question may be asked, what is the essence of being a Great Commission
Worshipper? David Wheeler and Vernon Whaley provides subtle element of what the
significance is to being a Great Commission Worshipper a man absolutely and
similarly dedicated to evangelism and worship and an otherworldly procedure that is
formational, transformational, social, missional, and reproducible. The postulation
/thesis of the book is outlined in section two when the writers doubtlessly express
A Great Commission worshipper is a person who is so much in love with Jesus, so
committed to worship of Jesus, and so devoted to being obedient to every
command of Jesus that he simply cannot restrain himself from telling others about
his incredible relationship with the Son of God. 1 In The Great Commission to
Worship: Biblical Principles for Worship Based Evangelism the writers join
evangelism and love as profound orders that the Christian devotee must follow up
on out of acquiescence for God. They state at an early stage that worship is not an
event or something we do for God. Rather it is an act of unbridled obedience even
when rational explanations are hard to find. 2
Wheeler and Whaley give regular confusions of evangelism and worship, giving a
brief reaction for each. They then give a scriptural model of an evangelism venerate

Born in Bardstown, Kentucky, Abraham Lincoln taught himself how to be strong,
stand for what he believed and wanted to make a difference. To most he was a hero
for his victory in the US Civil War. Lincoln proved to be a strong military leader. He
strategized and paved the way for slaves to be a part of history. At the young age of
two, Abraham Lincolnwas unaware he was getting accustomed to a lifestyle, that
would later impact his career. Abraham Lincoln came from a very normal
background. He spent most of his younger years close to nature. He favorited hunting,
fishing, cropping, and his various boyhood escapes. The Lincolns spent most of their

Lincoln used his background as an outlet when making most of his decisions.
During two occasions, he addressed his respect for Kentucky and its citizens, but
needed them to stand behind his vision. In Sept of 1859, he addressed how he
believed slavery was wrong and wish for it not to spread . In 1860, Lincoln wanted
to succeed Pennsylvania. In Feb of 1861, he had the same speech. Many people
were concerned about what Lincoln could actually do. They did not forget that
Lincoln had little to no experience with law. He only had up to eighteen months of
formal schooling. Despite these facts, Lincoln was regarded as Candidate of pride,
wealth and aristocratic family distinction . Better than most union leaders he
appreciated conditions in the south... and the advantages of being able to call on
the old southern leaders. He was very generous and considerate. Lincoln was for the
North but he was also connected to the South fundamentally and emotionally. In
1864, a northern delegation conferred with him concerning escaped slaves coming
within union lines. Lincoln was once again facing issues he did not see coming his
way. From left to right, people were expecting him to back up his word. He had to
prove to them he could get the job done, regardless of the obstacles he may

We see that Priestley uses the character of Gerald to show how people behaved
irresponsibly and selfishly back in his time; he believed things needed to change
drastically. Gerald is a very ambiguous character who is shown to hold substantial
power due to his class and his wealth much like the Birling family. In the opening
stage directions in page 1, we see that Gerald is introduced as a self assured
character .Gerald is described as a young man about town meaning he is part of
the younger generation. The phrase about town suggests that he is trendy, sociable
and he goes to a lot of different places. We see that Gerald is also a well mannered
gentlemen. Gerald is interestingly the second person to speak in the play ,just
after Birling, giving him a greater importance compared with the other characters.
His first words, then it will be all right ...i don t pretend to know much ,shows he is
honest ,confident and doesn t need to impress. Gerald complements the dinner by
saying (politely) absolutely first class showing he appreciates what the Birling
family has cooked for him. The adverb politely suggest that he wants to make sure
he is on the good side of the Birling s. He shows that he is a courteous man by
repeating the phrase thank you ; this suggests Gerald exercises a high level of
etiquette in order to build a good bond and relationship with the Birling family.
Furthermore, Priestley makes it clear that Gerald is trying his best to show that he has

Exploring the Disadvantages Catholics Faced in Northern Ireland in the Mid 60 s
In Northern Ireland during the 60 s Catholics faced a lot of disadvantages, in areas of
Employment, Education, Housing, and Politics; there is evidence that even the
Police Force was biased in favor of the Protestant community.
Employment was a major area in which Catholics faced discrimination. Protestants
held most of the civil service, government and local government posts in Northern
Ireland and even if a catholic did get employment, many would simply feel too
uncomfortable in the midst of all the Protestants. The main companies were privately

get jobs in a whole range of occupations.
In the 1960 s the government built a new city called Craigavon in the county of
Derry, but only built 5 Catholic schools, despite the fact that 48% of children in
Northern Ireland were Catholics. This discouraged Catholics from moving there.
This would cause them to move elsewhere where there was less prejudice and they
could start building foundations. However this had a dreadful affect on the housing
and living conditions. In some cases, Catholic families were bunched up, 3 families
to a house.
Following a massive slum clearance effort in the post war years, when N. Ireland was
experiencing a genuine period of economic prosperity, Catholics believed that council
houses were being unfairly allotted to Protestant families rather than on the basis of
need. This also affected the voting system, as homeowners and tenants had more
votes.
By the late 1960 s economic recession on the mainland was affecting N. Ireland
badly. Unemployment rose dramatically and the slum clearance stopped. By 1967 the
Northern Ireland Civil Rights Association (NICRA) was formed in the midst of
growing discontent. Amongst other things they made the

The purpose of writing this paper is to inform readers on juvenile delinquents and
their abilities to make good decisions. Currently the age to sentence a minor to
adult prison is 18 years of age. The current age to purchase alcohol is 21, The idea
that a man turns into a full grown up at age 21 goes back hundreds of years in
English regular law; 21 was the age at which a man could, in addition to other
things, vote and turn into a knight. Since a man was an official grown up at age 21,
it appeared well that they could drink then, as well. As stated earlier a man was
considered an adult at age 21, so when we look at the juvenile justice system a
juvenile is anyone under the age of 18. Under most laws, young people are
recognized as adults at age 18. However, emerging science about brain development
suggests that most people do not reach full maturity until the age 21. Why charge a

40. The Anatomy and Actions of the Knee Essay
The knee joint is formed by the articulation of the distal end of the femur and the
proximal end of the tibia. The fibula is only involved to the extent that it serves as an
attachment site for connective tissue. In this paper, the anatomy of the joint will be
discussed.
The knee is a hinge type, diarthrotic, or freely moveable joint. Also referred to as a
synovial joint, the 2 articulating ends of bone are encased in a capsule that lubricates
the joint with synovial fluid to reduce friction.
Each bone in a synovial joint has articular cartilage at the articulating surface. The C
shaped medial and lateral menisci serve to deepen the articulation at the superior
surface of the tibia, thus enhancing the bony stability of the joint.

The quads include the rectus femoris, and the vastus lateralis, intermedius, and
medialis. This muscle group shares a common tendon at insertion. The patellar tendon
inserts at the tibial tuberosity, and within this tendon lies the patella. The patella is
anterior to the femur tibia articulation, and this sesmoid bone increases the leverage
of the quads by acting as a pulley. The major contributor to the stability of the knee
joint is the strength of the quads. The only muscle that assists in extension is the
tensor fascia lata.
Rotation at the knee can only occur when the joint is in flexion. Medial, or internal,
rotation is a slight turning in of the tibia, and the muscles that accomplish this are the
semitendinosus, semimembranosus, and popliteus with assistance from the gracilis
and sartorius. To slightly turn the tibia outward is called lateral (external) rotation,
and the muscle that is solely responsible for this is the biceps femoris.

that will be listed are those pertaining to the knee.)

One of the most powerful scenes, to me, was when Violet talks to Nobody. Many
of the things that she is going through both at school and at home are commonplace
to most girls in middle school and starting puberty. She s facing the mean girls, but
also the boy who s making racist faces at her. Presumably, this means he s doing
something with his eyes, and this immediately made me think of the jerks in middle
school that I remembered also doing this. I really liked this storyline because I feel
like, especially in entertainment and media, the issue of raceis literally black and
white, but there are many other minorities that underrepresented and mistreated. It
was interesting watching Violet essentially talk to herself, as represented by
Nobody, about how she felt about these things and to realize that while it may not
be the best situation, at least she has her brother to rely on. Another interesting
thing about their focus on race is that, of the six person cast, only one cast member
is white and not of Asian descent, and he plays the Canute, who is trying to destroy
diversity. Since it is in many ways a children s show, at the very least kid friendly, I
don t know if this casting choice was intentional to convey a message about white
male patriarchy, but it... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As a kid friendly show, I could indulge in the silliness of the story line and some of
the jokes, but it had a strong enough message that I felt I left the theater with
something to think about and debate. It was relatable and really made me think
about when I was Bruce and Violet and didn t feel like I fit in. I really wish that this
was something that my parents could have taken me to when I was younger. This is
a show that I would recommend to anyone who wants to laugh but also be able to
reflect on the world around
42. Foreshadowing in William Faulkner s A Rose for Emily
Essay
Foreshadowing in William Faulkner s A Rose for Emily William Faulkner paints
a tragic tale about the inevitability of change and the futility of attempting to stop it
in A Rose for Emily . This story is about a lonely upper class woman struggling
with life and traditions in the Old South. Besides effective uses of literary
techniques, such as symbolism and a first plural person narrative style, Faulkner
succeeds in creating a suspenseful and mysterious story by the use of foreshadowing,
which gives a powerful description about death and the tragic struggle of the main
character, Miss Emily. In general the use of foreshadowing often relates to events in
a story, and few are attempted to describe character. Faulkner has effectively... Show

The smell that upsets the community is the next foreshadowing of the death of
Homer. The smell comes a short time after her sweetheart...had deserted her (509).
The manner of Homer s death is implied in the conversation between Miss Emily
and the pharmacist as she is buying arsenic, a poison used to kill rats, as well as the
picture of skull and bones , which is exactly what the town people find left of
Homer (511). The use of foreshadowing to describe the changes in Emily physical
and emotional life is subtler and relies heavily on symbolism. The descriptions of
the decaying house symbolize Miss Emily s physical and emotional decay, and as
well as her mental problems. It foretells of her downfall, a fallen monument (507).
The house is full of dust and dark shadows, It smelled of dust and disuse a close,
dank smell , and symbolizes the death filled environment that Emily lives in (508).
To describe Emily s life, Faulkner effectively uses foreshadowing in conjunction
with structure in the chronology of events. He opens the story with her death, goes
backward in time when she is old, goes backward again to the foreshadowed death
of Homer, and then backward again to her romance with Homer and finally to her
death. Her first description is dark; black was her color, a representation of death,
depression and gloom. Her second mention is an upright torso motionless figure
43. How Did The Shang Dynasty Influence Early Chinese
Society
Early Chinese society was ruled by different dynasties. The dynastic rule was an
important part of the culture and its development. The rule was passed on from
father to son, making the dynasty ruled by a family. Xia Dynasty The Xia dynasty
was the first historically known dynasty. It ruled China from 2200 1750 B.C.E. by
Yu and his son (Judge and Langdon, 2016).The Xia dynasty controlled/ruled many
of the cities and towns along side of China s yellow river. They created many
palaces, tombs and paved the roads of China. The Xia dynasty is responsible for
creating the early bronze tools and weapons. Through scholarly arguments it is
believed that the Xia dynasty was a mythological dynasty that never existed. They
ruled China up until they were overthrown by the Shang dynasty (Judge and
Langdon, 2016). Shang Dynasty The Shang dynasty were the first to perfect the use
of the Xia bronze tools and weapons. They divided the Chinese society into a
stratified society that was much like a war system. The most important people... Show

He was able to united China under one ruler by conquering nearly all of China,
thus he became known as Shihuangdi (the first emperor). The joining of the
kingdoms was the cause of the Great Wall of China to be built because it was
supposed to provide help to the joined forces; by prevent the invasions from the
northerners. Qin Shi Huang maintained a strict ruling and very strict consequences.
He used many things to punish those who went against his dynastic rule, such as
branding or burying offenders alive (Judge and Langdon, 2016). His strict laws
were so extreme and alienated the people of China, that he eventually became very
paranoid. Because of his obsession with death, the first emperor sought the help of
oracles and magicians to try and find formulas for eternal life and many sea
expeditions (Judge and Langdon,
44. Cultural Practices And Selfways Essay
In the world today, there are numerous cultures, each with their own practices and
selfways. Selfways are the traits and cultural participation patterns derived from a
culture that define how a person should act in the world (Markus, Mullally Kitayama,
1997). Selfways are a key example of how the people of the culture mold what the
culture s integral characteristics are, while the culture, itself, moulds the actions of
the people of the culture. This process is called Mutual Constitution: the symbiotic
relationship between a culture s psychological processes and the individuals who
reside in the culture forming a collective reality between the culture and participant
within the culture (Fiske, Kitayama, Markus Nisbett, 1998). The... Show more content

Social safety net policies, like Medicaid, Social Security and Food Stamps, are
types of socialist or collectivist policies that are more supported by the Left side of
the political spectrum. In a 2012 Pew Research Center Values Survey, over 75% of
Democrats believed that it is a part of the government s role to provide poor people
with means of shelter and food. The survey also showed that not only do
Democrats support the Social safety net programs but 65% of Democrats would
like to see the expansion of these programs (Pew Research Center, 2012).
Consistent with these political practices, these practices parallel the Jewish law and
the Talmud mandate of the Jewish people to give sums of money and time to
charities in order to satisfy this portion of Jewish law and this is reflected in the
general voting pattern of Jews.
To add, daily experiences of Jews help shape their general beliefs about the world
around them as well as their voting patterns. In my life, I attended Hebrew School
every Wednesday from 4:30 to 6:30 in the evening right after school. In Hebrew
School, we were taught to about the various principles in the Torah, one of which
was the principle covered above, Tzedakah. To practice the notion of Tzedakah, we
were strongly recommended to bring at least one dollar or a canned good in order to

45. Daniel Webster Essay
Daniel Webster
Daniel Webster was born in Salisbury, New Hampshire, on January 18, 1782. Daniel
was delicate, but a brilliant child, his family realized this, and made great expense to
put Daniel and his brother Ezekiel through school. After graduating from Dartmouth
College, he studied law and was admitted to the bar in Boston in 1805. Daniel
Webster, was a well known public speaker and major constitutional lawyer; he was a
major congressional representative for the Northern Whigs during his twenty years
he served in the U.S. Senate. He became famous as orator for his speeches supporting
the Union and opposing the nullification movement and its supporters. Daniel was

He studied there at Phillips Exeter Academy for nine months, and dropped out
because his family was suffering from financial problems. At age fifteen, he started
teaching at a near by school house. The minister at Boscawen recognized young
Daniel s talents and saw him to be an individual who was in need of a college
education. Dr. Samuel Wood tried to prepare him for college by teaching him Latin,
and another individual tutored him in Greek, so he might have a good chance to be
admitted into Dartmouth College in 1797. [2] Dartmouth was actually a large and
flourishing institution, numbering nearly a hundred and fifty students and graduating
larger classes than any of its contemporaries except Harvard (Current, 6). While in
school he read all the English literature he could put his hands on, and he remembered
the literature he read. While at Dartmouth College, he learned an abundant amount of
history and learned about great Latin authors and strengthened his knowledge of the
Latin Language. During his college days he greater developed his gift of being a
great orator. [3] Without his forceful and instinct for the confusions and cohesions of
the law, without illuminating wit and metaphors and the resounding symbolism
oratory, without his truly great contributions at the bar, the epochal opinions of the
Court might have been very different from what they were (Baxter, 1). He loved to
speak, he practiced off hand speaking but usually prepared himself for a speech
47. Essay on Blake s The Songs of Innocence
Blake s The Songs of Innocence
The Songs of Innocence poems first appeared in Blake s 1784 novel, An Island in
the Moon. In 1788, Blake began to compile in earnest, the collection of Songs of
Innocence. And by 1789, this original volume of plates was complete. These poems
are the products of the human mind in a state of innocence, imagination, and joy;
natural euphoric feelings uninhibited or tainted by the outside world. Following the
completion of the Songs of Innocence plates, Blake wrote The Marriage of Heaven
and Hell and it is through this dilemma of good and evil and the suffering that he
witnesses on the streets of London, that he begins composing Songs of Experience.
This second volume serves as a response to Songs of ... Show more content on

For example, in Infant Joy, Blake demonstrates the child s eye and sense of wonder
that we find in the incorruptibility of infants. Blake presents a truly pure creature in
the first stanza:
I have no name. I am but two days old What shall I call thee? I happy am Joy is my
name Sweet joy befall thee! (1 6)
The voice in this poem is one of pure happiness and innocence. In this state of joy,
the infant is unaware of the world in which he lives and that awaits him. In these
opening lines, we see Blake revealing the everyday modeling and structure that
categorizes the world, but is absent in the simplicity and purity of childhood. The
child has no name because joy needs no other name. Labeling and classification are
products of organization and arrangement that the world uses to assimilate
innocence into experience. Blake demonstrates that it is through this transition, that
the virtue of child s play is destroyed. Blake utilizes specific emotions such as
happy, joy, sweet, pretty, sing, and smile to describe this uncorrupted state of being.
There is no danger, darkness, or struggle for the infant. Instead, he exists in a care
free state, free of guilt, temptation, and darkness. The birth of a child is celebrated
by Blake and it stirs in us powerful emotions of peace, love, and hope.
Conversely, in Songs of Experience, Infant Sorrow serves as the counterpart of
48. Mark Twain Satire
Satire can be used in many ways, although it is not always done in a convincing
manner. Only a knowledgeable and creative writer can influence people through this
device. Satire often uses humor to show a current problem, and in most cases, it does
not provide a solution but is the catalyst for it. Emotions on the topic are prompted
and in turn the audience connects with the writer and the conflict at hand.
Throughout history authors have wielded the literary devices of satireto convey a
message; mockery, irony, overstatement, and understatement can be the most
effective by shedding light on an issue in an unusual way. The most common and
effective device of satire is mockery. In Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, by Mark
Twain, the author uses satire as the foundation of the novel, utilizing mockery the
most often. Early on in the novel, when Huck and Jim meet, Huck is questioning
Jim about what his plan is to do with his money and Jim responds with his idea that
his friend Balum came up with, In church he hear de preacher say dat whoever
give to de po len to de Lord, en boun to git his money back a hund d times (Twain
49). This mockery is effective because it is talking directly about an issue. Twain is
mocking the old Catholic church and also the people that sometimes blindly
followed it. In the 1500s the church was accused of offering its people the right to
buy their way to heaven. In Jim s case, the church is saying that if anyone donates
money, they will in return
49. Persuasive Essay On Immigration Law
Every year, hundreds of thousands of immigrants travel legal and illegal, from
around the world, come into the United States. The destination that attract some
individuals or group to leave their home are for better economic opportunities, higher
standards of living, and freedom. Immigration has been the defining characteristic of
America long before the country even began. It s important to remind ourselves of
our rich history of where it all started. We all came from different places of the world
to create this multicultural groups of people that is in the United Statesin the 21st
century. While Immigrationpolicies have been perfected over the decades, the Trumps
administration attempts to abolish those laws that have been in place by prioritizing
on the value of immigrants, prohibit the travel of Muslim countries from entering the
United States and end a government program which thousands of young immigrants
can face deportation.
A proposed change in immigration law announced by president the Trump
administration would have a critical impact in the way possible immigrants are
selected and become citizens. No longer would America be a place for people that
had the desire to come for equal opportunity. Instead, America would largely focus on
the skilled, higher earning and English speaking immigrates. Trump states that this
change will benefit struggling America families by putting their needs first and
Americas needs first. This bill propose will include a limit on
50. Essay on Aristotle
y does Plato believe that only Philosophers are fit to rule?
Rather than the practical pursuit we are accustomed to, for Plato, Politics is an
intellectual faculty. Governance by non philosophers is to be governed by opinions,
beliefs and self interest; in contrast the philosopher ruler will govern with virtue and
justice with no hidden agenda. The philosopher is in love, in love with learning,
knowledge and truth. It is important to make a distinction here between the
acquisition of knowledge and the acquisition of truth, because knowledge is not
necessarily the truth.
With the help of an allegory, Plato explains the sensible world of illusion and belief,
the place where most people reside. The philosopher has stepped outside this ... Show

The rulers will not own property, nor have money, they will be free of vices,
excesses and desires. They will have a Spartan existence (Plato was an admirer of
Spartan culture). A ruler in Platos society as described in his dialogue The Republic
would be incorruptible, an absolute model of sensible world perfection and justice. If
one was to look no further into Platos utopian society you could be forgiven for
thinking that the philosopher rulers would be the ultimate answer for political duties
and government administration. A more detailed examination of policy and structure
is necessary, prior to arriving at a conclusion.
The structure in Platos society is tripartite and hierarchical, made up of the
philosopher kings as rulers. The auxiliaries who will be in a sort of military role
(prospective rulers) and the artisans (workers) who will produce all the consumable
and non consumable goods deemed necessary for consumption and the continued
economic viability of the society.
The philosopher rulers duties as administrators in platos society or commonwealth
are to legislate, educate and to keep an ever watchful eye on the auxillaries and
artisans, paying special attention to the auxillaries, especially those that are
considered fit to be future philosopher rulers. All auxiliaries will be subjected to a
series of tests, which will check their powers of resistance to self interest, pleasure
and other
51. Why Is Family Guy Banned
There are also some adult TV shows that have some episodes that are so vulgar
they can t show them on TV. For example, Family Guy has an episode called Terms
Of Endearment. This episode was banned from TV and barely legal. In my
opinion, this one is equal to another episode that is as inappropriate as this. I think
the main reason why is because of how offensive it was for some people. In another
episode of Family Guythat actually couldn t get aired on TV for a while is If You
Wish Upon A Weinstein. This episode has insults towards stupid people and it has
constant stereotypes towards Jews. The whole episode is literally about saying all
Jews are good with money. While shows like Simpsons can go to episodes revolving
around different people.

Socrates and Siddhartha Guatama Buddha have many similarities; they both believe
in the importance of justice and good, and a simpler way of life. However, they have
different goals: Socrates concerns with worldly meanings and codes, he deals with
truth and morals. Buddha concerns with attaining the outer worldly through
mastering the worldly. Socrates relinquishes sensual desires in hopes of spiritual
rebirth after death and achieving enlightenment in life. Buddha relinquishes the same
ideas, but in hopes of living an enlightened life on earth. (The Dhammapada: Socrates

In contrasting, other believers view abortion as an immorality. Because of this, the
principle of free will does not allow any forecast based on the so called prior cause,
but it allows the self determined and the external forces. The fact is that the principles
of ethics are products of human beings, and moral responsibility itself is not
indistinguishable in different traditions and societies. Therefore, according to
Libertarians The Ideas of Free Will and Responsibility in Buddhist Ethics, if human
beings are controlled by prior causes as a mechanistic system, then human behaviors
can be predicted with the same degree of certainty , however, human behavior is in
fact non mechanistic and exists in a biological system. With this being said, human
beings acquire free will. Thus, human existence, in the ethical sense, is controlled not
by external surroundings or by any prior foundation, but by the inner free will of each
individual. The fact that Socrates sought an authentic knowledge rather than a simple
triumph over an opponent, he used the same logical actions developed by the
Sophists to a new intention, the pursuit of truth. Even after Socrates has been
convicted by the jury, he refuses to dispose of his pursuit of the truth in all matters.
Refusing to escape from Athens, he continues that public argument of the matters of

1. What factors raised concerns among the hospital s managers about the viability of
the facility as a general community hospital, and how did the market analysis validate
those concerns? Factors that raised concern included the fact that the general hospital
was not profitable and that the competition included three large providers with
unlimited resources. Being in this situation, management must have understood that
their organization was in need of a change, and needed to differentiate themselves
from the competition. With this, they then conducted a market analysis to better
understand to the community needs, the competition, and future demands of the
immediate market area. In doing so, they were able to find that they were
