In Losing Bodies, the primary rhetorical mode used is exemplification; this is evident because Orbach
s argument is structured by beginning with an introductory thesis: It could be said that the media has a
great deal to answer for when it comes to how we understand our bodies today (Orbach 244). , which
she attempts to support with body paragraphs containing evidence for her claim. However, while I feel
this rhetorical mode to be the most appropriate for her argument s purpose, I believe that it was
executed quite poorly because of the lack of organization of her ideas and poor choice in sources. In
regards to rhetorical strategy, the use of pathos in her argument is expressed by appealing to the
sentimental idea of motherhood throughout her essay. A particular example of Orbach appealing to
emotion using the concept of the connection between mother and her child is in the passage where she
suggests that the body shaming culture produced by the media causes emotional distress in pregnant
mothers, which transfers harmful anxiety into the womb, where it is to be absorbed by her growing
infant (Orbach, 249). Although she references no facts or statistics to support this claim, thereby

Mexico. Some of the economic issues that I would run into would be the low income revenue that

The effect of words, powerless and innocent as they are, depending on the one who combines them
can have good and evil outcomes. In the hands of Margaret Atwood, she used her knowledge and
different interpretation of words in her dystopian novel The Handmaid s Tale in a very indirect and
devious way making her novel a treasure hunt in search of these key words for the understanding of

The British were a vital part of the history of Australia. They explored the world creating colonies all
over, but January 18, 1788 is when they first colonized Australia bringing with them many convicts

Hello, my name is Villette Jones and I am here to give my thoughts, definition, and analysis on
Sacrifice. Sacrifice has many different meaning and even more synonyms to go along with it, a few
words or phrases that catch my immediate attention when thinking of Sacrifice are ( Cede, Immolate,
Endure, and Part With ). However when I asked associates and my peers majority of them thought of
Forfeit. When I take time to really think, in my own opinion Sacrifice is Forfeit, Suffering, and
Offering. These are very significant second hand words to my original word (Sacrifice), and as you
read along I will show you exactly what I mean by it.
The meaning I get from the word Forfeit is Loses, a Penalty, and being deprived of something. Forfeit
is such a major second hand word to Sacrifice and the reason forfeiting is so major, is because

The Joy Luck Club is Amy Tan s first novel. It consists of four sections with sixteen short stories. One
of the main issues of the novel is the relationship between Chinese mothers and their Chinese
American daughters. Your mother is in your bones. (Tan 1998, 30) There is a cultural chasm between
them because of the difference in the way they were brought up and different influences of the
environment.

Pinckney Benton Stewart Pinchback, commonly known as P.B.S. Pinchback, was the first African
American elected as a governor of a US state. Pinchback was born in Georgia in 1837 to a former
slave. As an adult, Pinchback volunteered for the military during the Civil War. At first, he served in
the First Louisiana Volunteers, which was an all white group then he left to create an all black
volunteer unit called the Corps d Afrique. After the war, Pinchback began his career in politics in New
