A Rhetorical Analysis Of Susie Orbach s Losing Bodies

Rhetorical Analysis Essay
English Composition 101 05

Rhetorical Analysis of Losing Bodies
Losing Bodies by Susie Orbach is an essay I found to be more effective in its ability to confuse its
readers with its argument, than it is to convince them. The negative attributes of this essay: its
disorderly placement of evidence for her argument, tendency to deviate significantly from its proposed
thesis, the author s decision to oversimplify the target of her argument and use of logical fallacies,
greatly overshadow the more positive attributes of the essay: its effective use of emotional appeal and
its method of getting the reader involved in the argument through the use of rhethorical questions.
The logic ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In Losing Bodies, the primary rhetorical mode used is exemplification; this is evident because Orbach
s argument is structured by beginning with an introductory thesis: It could be said that the media has a
great deal to answer for when it comes to how we understand our bodies today (Orbach 244). , which
she attempts to support with body paragraphs containing evidence for her claim. However, while I feel
this rhetorical mode to be the most appropriate for her argument s purpose, I believe that it was
executed quite poorly because of the lack of organization of her ideas and poor choice in sources. In
regards to rhetorical strategy, the use of pathos in her argument is expressed by appealing to the
sentimental idea of motherhood throughout her essay. A particular example of Orbach appealing to
emotion using the concept of the connection between mother and her child is in the passage where she
suggests that the body shaming culture produced by the media causes emotional distress in pregnant
mothers, which transfers harmful anxiety into the womb, where it is to be absorbed by her growing
infant (Orbach, 249). Although she references no facts or statistics to support this claim, thereby
inhibiting the use of logos, this strategy is a very effective in producing an emotional response.
Through the mention of an implied harm to an innocent (the infant), the audience is meant to feel
compelled to protect the defenseless victim from the threat (the toxic media that caused the mother s

Richard Benjamin Speck Personality Traits
Richard Benjamin Speck was born in Kirkwood, Illinois December of 1941. In 1966 Speck seized the
hearts of many after slaughtering eight female nursing students who live in Chicago. Speck had a
tattoo on his arm and it said BORN TO RAISE HELL . He has had a history of violence against
woman, because of his hatred for his mother. After his killing spree in 1966, there was said to be a
manhunt that lead to his arrest two days later. Speck went to prison and died at the age of 49 years old
by way of a heart attack (Edward, 2007). Serial killers have been identified by Hickey Simon, 2002, as
a Caucasian male between the ages of 20 and 39 years old. There personalities exhibit psychopathic
behaviors, pleasure seeking outlook on life as well as lack of morality when they do something that is
violent (Hickey Simons, 2002). The upbringing of serial killers is steady with these characteristics.

Richard Speck fits in the Hedonistic killer subtype, he seems to have murdered for the thrill of it.
Speck received such a rush from raping and murdering his victims because of the pleasure he would
filled afterwards. As a child he was very close to his father. His father passed way when Speck was
only 6 years old, this prompts him to rebel and become emotionally disconnected from any and every
one that was in his life. After his father s death he began to deviate to behaviors that are associated
with toddler like conduct. Eating crayons in class and cry to get attention from his teacher so that he
would be made the center of attention. When he became a teenager his violent outburst became out of
control. He was accused of holding a woman at knife point but she got a way. He was married at the
age of 16 and became abusive to his wife shortly after marriage because of his speculations of her

Bill Gates Accomplishments
People take for granted how far technology has come in the past 40 years. Back then, computers
weren t seen as a consumer product, only as a high end company s tool for completing complicated
equations or automating systems. Bill Gates was the man who headed the shift in software
development that led to a lot of the technology we have today. Most people probably already know
Bill Gates as the richest man in the world but what is more interesting is the story behind his fortune.
Bill Gates is considered one of the most influential people in technology because of his breakthrough
innovations in personal computers and generous philanthropy. Bill Gates started working on software
projects from a very young age. He was lucky enough to go to a high ... Show more content on

Gates was approached by IBM with an offer to buy out their company. IBM wanted to buy the source
code, which would have given them the information to the operating system. Gates refused, instead
proposing that IBM pay a licensing fee for copies of the software sold with their computers.
(Biography.com Editors) This was an unheard of strategy at the time and critics thought it was
unlikely Gates would turn a profit with this strategy. Luckily Gates s risk paid off. The microcomputer
industry greatly increased when Microsoft licensed MS DOS to IBM. (Biography.com Editors)
Although IBM helped a lot getting Microsoft started the company eventually grew to overshadow
IBM and left them. Microsoft was getting a cut from every computer IBM sold that was running MS
DOS which gave them the opportunity to move out of their makeshift office and expand the company.
During this time, Apple was also seeing huge success with their Mac OS and Gates, being the savvy
businessman he is, wanted to see where the industry was headed. Gates met with Steve Jobs, the CEO
of Apple Computers, to discuss working on Mac OS with them. At first Jobs adamant to keep the OS a
secret from competition, but he knew of Microsoft s reputation in the operating system word and
couldn t refuse the offer. A small team from Microsoft was granted access to Apple s next

Farm Animals, Service Animals And Domestication Animals
In today s time we have farm animals, service animals, and companion animals which benefit us in
many ways . Humans wanted desired aspects of the animal anything from showing the animals for
prizes to breeding the biggest and strongest for food production. Animals born in the wild are very
different from body build to how the hair grows and the natural behavior a wild animal compared to a
domesticated animal will not let you touch it because of their flight zones.
The first domesticated animals were the dog and the sheep. The dog originated from wolves then bred
to desire traits that suited needs for farmers and hunters for example The Romans preferred colors for

A Byzantine Fault
Introduction
Faults occur in every system which may halt the systems functionality. A fault that presents different
symptoms to different observers is called a Byzantine fault. These Byzantine faults form the reason for
the loss of a system service and are called Byzantine failures. A Byzantine failure may occur due to
arbitrary problems like corruption in their local state, production of incorrect outputs or by processing
requests incorrectly instead of the general situations like crashing or stopping. The ability of a system
to defend itself from Byzantine failures is called Byzantine fault tolerance which is a sub field of fault
tolerance.
A reliable computer system is a system that overcomes failures, one such failure is the Byzantine
Generals problem. This problem is rare and generally overlooked by the people who are unfamiliar
with the problem. It brings down the entire network if not tackled properly. This problem is most
common in distributed dependable network. This paper aims at explaining the Byzantine Generals
problem and providing a possible solution to that problem.
My motivation to write this topic comes from the wide usage of distributed systems in various fields
like particle physics, bioinformatics, weather, climate, visualization and graphics, economics and
finance etc., and the need to protect such systems. Failure of distributed systems leads to huge loss of
resources, time and money. Thus protecting from these kinds of failure is a challenging task

North Dakota Pipeline Debate
Hi everyone today I m talking about the North Dakota pipeline protest. Who am I? Actually I m just a
regular environmental protester. I m here today invited by my friend Jacob to talk about what s
happening in North Dakota and why it relates to the government. So what is exactly happening in
North Dakota? Well I ll tell you Native Americans are protesting against the company Dakota access
whose job is to build 1072 mile pipeline from North Dakota down towards the southeast. It s a simple
transport job but is receiving a huge amount of backlash since April due to its environmental issues
What are these environmental issues exactly well it has to do with the water in the area nearby the site
where they want to build their oil pipeline is the Missouri River and lake Oahe. The rivers and lakes
are there main supply of water to the Native American reservation near by The Standing Rock Sioux
Tribe. This drive has been protesting since April about the dangers of the corruption their water

Well two Saturdays ago the amount of protesters near the pipeline s construction grew into the
thousands. The governor of North Dakota the state of emergency and barricaded the protest sites. This
is only after a federal judge ruled that they would not hear the tribes requested to stop the construction.
After that request of a state of emergency more and more protesters started arriving regardless of the
barricades. Due to this, last Friday the federal government announced that there would be a pause in
the construction of the pipeline and also considered, Nationwide reform on these kinds of
infrastructure projects. Although this causes temporary and may resume and the construction may
continue forward. But hopefully with my spread of information you can go out and protest yourself

Is The Death Penalty Fair
The death penalty has been used since the 13 colonies. This replaced the form of many other harsh
punishments It is a consequence that is harsh but to some necessary. I believe that the death penalty is
fair in all ways. The beneficial reasons are morality, deterrence, and cost of death vs. life in prison. As
human beings we decide what makes our decisions right and wrong. Also shown through good or bad
behavior. If you receive the death penalty as your punishment, you deserved it. If you take somebody
life, then yours should be taken as well. The victim should see how it feels and get a consequence for
his repulsive actions. These individuals should be removed from society. If one recognizes the fact
that their existence is going

I would tread the waters of global expansion and would first expand with our neighbors to the south,
Mexico. Some of the economic issues that I would run into would be the low income revenue that
families in Mexico face. The infrastructure in Mexico is well developed in major cities but that is
about it. Other cities have poor to non existent infrastructure. The way I would mitigate these issues
would be place my businesses in tourist cities (I.E. Puerto Vallarta, Cancun, Quintana Roo, Monterrey,
and Etc.) and international airports.
The social culture difference that I would have to take into consideration are that many Mexicans only
speak English. I would have to get bilingual workers that spoke both Spanish and English. I would
also take into consideration the narco culture that they are currently living in. Many drug gangs are
running the country and I would have to mitigate that so my workers would be safe.
Technological issues would be minimal. Mexico is well off when it comes to internet technology.
Almost every home in major cities now have Wi Fi connection. My business would also be able to
provide this service. They also have cell phone service readily available in these major cities. I would
have minimal political legal issues. That is because of the North

The Veldt Essay
Many people have devices to help make their lives easier, whether it s a small difference or a large
one. Some devices can do many things, like a phone can make calls or get on the internet. Other forms
of technology have a greater impact on our lives, for example, medical equipment. Ray Bradbury
demonstrates technologies advantages for humans everyday lives through The Veldt and The
Pedestrian. Undeniably, technology can have a negative effect on everyday lives, especially for
children. Ray Bradbury shows how mixing spoiled children with technology is never a good
combination, And brush my own teeth and comb my hair and give myself a bath? (The Veldt, page 7)
In the story, Peter Hadley is livid about hearing he might actually have to do everyday essentials for

sang and was good to them. Everyday life is changed for the family in this house when the house
helped cook food and clothe them. The technology to create a house that cooks is cutting edge. It is a
concept people like Bradbury could only dream of. The convenience of a house that cooks opens free
time to start a hobby or just relax from the stress of everyday life. With a house that rocks its
inhabitants to sleep, a family could get much better sleep, compared to a regular bed. This high tech
advancement would make every day life easier and more stress free for anyone living in

Pacific Fleet escaped, because they were not at Pearl Harbor at the time. The Arizona and the
Oklahoma were the only two of the eight battleships that were able to be repaired and return to

Franklin D. Roosevelt gave his most famous speech A date which will live in infamy , and finally

After the dust cleared a few days later, people started pointing fingers. Admiral Husband Kimmel and
General Walter short were the Army and Navy Commanders at the time of the attack, so people started
blaming them. Shortly after they were relieved to duty later investigations showed that there was

Three Main Factors Leading To The Fall Of Mayan Civilizations
Mayan civilization, as one of the most dominant indigenous societies throughout the history, has never
been forgotten either by historians or normal people. With its vigorous development, an era of Golden
Age began during the Classic Period. However, once untouchable, Mayan civilization crashed in such
a short time as if it had never appeared before. The collapse of Mayan civilization is like a mystery for
historians today, so they never give up searching for evidence that caused the dramatic reversal in
history. Since there was not a decisive cause led to the fall of Mayan civilization, three main factors
possibly could bring about the Maya collapse contemporarily: drought, warfare between city states,
and overpopulation. Foremost, drought plays a dominant role in leading to the fall of Mayan
civilization. Drought has always been connected with a part of extinction because the living
environment is one of the most crucial points for survival. Drought is caused by prolonged shortages
of water supply and there is no species can live without water, so all the living factors are depending
on the living environment. Mayan civilization faced serious ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

According to a famous archaeologist, anthropologist, epigrapher Michael D. Coe s estimate, The
Maya region may have supported a population of some ten million people during the height of the
classic period. Such a large population was probably insupportable in the long run because of the
difficulties of ensuring a steady water supply and because of the limits of the region s agricultural
capacity. For those regions suffered from a water shortage, the lack of rain and repeated crop failures
make it entirely impossible for farmers, which accounts for 90 percent of the population, to make a
living. As a result, under the pressure of limited resource and living circumstances, overpopulation

Transcendentalism
Ralph Waldo Emerson said, The only person you are destined to become is the person you decide to
be. Transcendentalist believed in being independent and self reliant as well as appreciating nature.
Transcendentalism occurred in the 1800s in the United States. Transcendentalist believed that one
should not rely on others and should rely solely on themselves. They also believe that nature was
important in the world and should not be taken for granted. Artist from 2000 up to now share these
common beliefs with transcendentalist. One of these artist is Trisha Yearwood who had the song Real
Live Woman. Another artist who has a song that follows their beliefs is Lee Ann Womack. Lee Ann
Womack has the song I Hope You Dance which also follows along with the beliefs of
transcendentalist. Some of the beliefs that transcendentalist had was believing in independence and
they also believed in appreciating nature and everything in it for example Lee Ann Womack sings
about nature and what happens in it and Trisha Yearwood in one of her songs sings about the
importance of being self reliant and independent she also talks about social reforms and not doing
things that is set up by society. Nature itself is very important in the world and as for self reliance it
was seen as being something you should be. Along with social reforms being something that is going

Examples Of Conflict In Rules Of The Game By Amy Tan
Within the text Rules of the Game written by Amy Tan, the clash of Chinese beliefs and values with
those of American beliefs and values can be seen. This clash of values and beliefs between two culture
causes many mother daughter conflicts throughout the story. Waverly grew up in San Francisco in a
Chinese American neighborhood while her mother was a first generation immigrant. This difference in
their surroundings has caused their beliefs and values to differ from each other. Due to the clashing of
Chinese and American cultures, there are multiple incidents of conflict between MeiMei and her
mother. A key example of such an incident is when MeiMei is forced to accompany her mother to the
Saturday market. According to the text, MeiMei s mother would proudly walk with MeiMei and tell
everyone who looked towards them that MeiMei was her daughter. MeiMei then told her mom if she
could stop telling everyone who looked their way that MeiMei was her daughter. Her mother
misunderstood what MeiMei said, thinking that MeiMei was ashamed of walking with her. This then
caused MeiMei to tell her mother, If you want to show me off, then why don t you learn to play chess.
When MeiMei had realized that what she said was wrong, she ran away from her mother. To MeiMei,
her mother going around and telling everyone that MeiMei was her daughter was embarrassing
because she didn t want her mom to use her as a source to gain popularity. In MeiMei s beliefs, her
chess victories were her own accomplishments, one she should be the only one to use since she feels
as though she gained them on her own. Her mother on the other hand, sees MeiMei s achievements as
a victory for the whole family and is proud of her daughter. MeiMei misunderstands this, thinking her
mother was just crediting herself for MeiMei s work and so runs off. This clash in values caused this
incident. MeiMei s escape from her mother leads to a new conflict of MeiMei running away from her

The Novel The Handmaid s Tale
The effect of words, powerless and innocent as they are, depending on the one who combines them
can have good and evil outcomes. In the hands of Margaret Atwood, she used her knowledge and
different interpretation of words in her dystopian novel The Handmaid s Tale in a very indirect and
devious way making her novel a treasure hunt in search of these key words for the understanding of
the novel. The novel takes place in Gilead, a very dark future of the United States, governed by a
theocratic government which oppresses women by making them handmaids in the name of religion to
cure the infertility of the population. The double entendre diction which exists throughout the whole
novel adds subliminal hints on the charactarisation of the characters, such as Offred, and to the story
itself, such as the religious political system that governs Gilead, which is a double entendre in itself.
These different plays on diction proves the oppression of our main character and proves how powerful
language can be. The main character of this novel, Offred, proves to be very analytical in her thoughts
in various instances in the novel but the reader can t understand the complete meaning of this. For
example, when Offred was talking about her daily routine after getting up from bed and sitting in the
chair and think about the word char. It can also mean the leader of a meeting. It can also mean a mode
of execution. It is the first syllable in chanty. It is the French world for flesh. None of

The Tuskegee Syphilis Experiment
I decided to complete my National History Day project on the conflict and compromise of the
Tuskegee Syphilis Study. I learned about the Tuskegee Syphilis Experiment and started investigating
the experiment. This study seemed to be a perfect fit to the NHD theme this year. Medical history and
the civil right movement have always been very interesting to me, so I enjoyed researching this topic.
I started with a simple internet search to learn about the basic facts of the experiment and found a few
great sources. Then I moved onto databases, such as El Portal, and found many great primary and
secondary sources. In my school library and our public library, I did not find any books about syphilis
or the experiment. Throughout my research

Background And Credentials Of My Great Leaders
Now comes the best part of the paper where I have the esteem opportunity to give the background and
credentials of my great leaders. They each are three excellent coaches of dominate teams in the sports
industry. My leaders are: Phil Jackson (Chicago Bulls, Los Angeles Lakers, and New York Knicks),
Bill Belichick (New England Patriots), and Nick Saban (Alabama Crimson Tide).
Phil Jackson was born Philip Douglas Jackson on September 17, 1945, in Deer Lodge, Montana to
two Assemblies of God ministers. Jackson and his siblings were raised in a household where they
were not allowed to watch movies or television, and couldn t even dance for enjoyment. During his
high school career, he played basketball, football and baseball but only had the desire to play
basketball after graduation and received a scholarship from North Dakota to play there. Although his
college career was short, he helped his team win third and fourth place finishes in the NCAA Division
II championships. In the 1967 NBA Draft, he was selected by the New York Knicks in the second
round. Even though he wasn t an elite superstar, the Knicks were able to win two NBA
Championships in 1970 and 1973 against the Los Angeles Lakers while Jackson was a member of the

Chris As A Hero In The Magnificent Seven
Heroes are classified and viewed in thousands of different ways depending on the individual on whom
is describing them. A hero is somebody who goes above and beyond expectations and exceeds all the
limitations put on them. Heroes are overall strong characters and do not let people knock them down
no matter the instance. Additionally, heroes are non judgemental and help everyone even if they do not
get along. In the movie, The Magnificent Seven, all the characters exemplify heroism, but Chris goes
above and beyond everyone else.
Chris is a well rounded person and friend who cares for many. Chris is known for protecting his group
of men and in the town of Itxaclan and in turn the town people classify him as a leader and someone
the kids strive to be. Chris does not care what kind of the situation the person is in, he will continue to
go out of his way to support and protect them. He cares for everyone in the town and wants to help
with whatever they need. He wears a blue shirt and blue jeans with a belt of ammo and a gun around
his waist. From what the movie shows, Chris does not have any tattoos, but always looks very serious

Changing your engine oil is one of the single most important vehicle maintenance acts you can
perform. Over time the oil breaks down and no longer performs its job the way it did when it was new.
Your engine s oil helps absorb heat from the engine and lubricates moving metal parts that would
otherwise grind together. As you drive, the oil pump circulates oil within your engine and the oil filter
catches the deposits that build up over time. The oil filter performs its own type of car maintenance by
keeping the oil clean. But as the oil gets older, the number of deposits in the oil continues to build and
the filter is unable to extract all of the material. When this happens, the color of the oil changes and it

The objective of this lab experiment is to measure the material in the gas phase and to see how the
ideal gas experiment could apply to the physical. In this the material we used was, a sip lock plastic
bag, a large plastic beaker, thermometry, dry ice, water, and butane lighter.
Introduction
In this lab, the experiment focused on the relationship between the temperature and pressure of an
ideal gas that was dry ice inside the closed container. Therefore, the volume remains constant because
the ideal gas was in a closed container.

Dr. Fenton Dixon
Should Convicted Sex Offender s Names be Made Public? American s encompass diverse opinions on
whether a convicted sex offender s name should be made public. Although passionately espoused
arguments exist on all sides of the issue, very little academic or policy research has been conducted on
the actual positive and negative effects of Internet notification (Irwin, Delson, Kokish, Tobin, 2004, p.
4). According to the research, several causes exist for keeping convicted sex offender s names private.

There have been numerous vigilante attacks on innocent people because inaccurate information posted

46 percent, do not live at the addresses posted on the sex offender registry, and many sex offenders
(approximately 285 sex offenders released from prison as of May 1999) never get put on the list
(Freeman Longo, 2000, p. 8). Then, making convicted sex offenders names public puts untold distress
on others. Unfortunately, when the details of the [registered sex offenders ] lives and crimes are posted
on public registries and divulged through notification, it is not only the offender s confidentiality that
is violated (Freeman Longo, 2000, p. 6). People often abuse the law of the sex offender registry list
and provide too much information. In many cases the names of family members, friends, and the
victim s name is made public. The family members can be shamed and abused by society for things
they could not control. When a victim s name is made public, he or she may feel even more
desecrated, and often times it can cause the victim to relive the incident. Finally, publically listing
convicted sex offender s name and other information can cause unnecessary trauma. Many citizens
employ the sex offender registry list to obtain the address of an offender or his or her property. There

a 29.5 day cycle there a four main phases; new moon (1st quarter), half moon (2nd quarter), full moon
(3rd quarter) and another half moon (4th quarter). The phases of the moon occur because the moon

amount of Sun that the Moon reflects changes.
Any phase of the moon, from the new moon to the full moon, is described as Waxing, whilst any

The Rise Of China s Global Involvement
Today, the influence of the People s Republic of China is felt around the world. Its global economic
and diplomatic presence has led to speculation that China will be or already is the next superpower.
However, China was not always so involved in the world and the motivations that drove China to
extend its influence and ability to project power remain a subject of debate. There are two major
schools of thought on what motivated China to become a global actor. Certain scholars such as David
Shambaugh, Elizabeth Economy, and Michael Levi, believe Chinese global influence is a result of the
need to secure raw materials essential to economic and industrial development. Other scholars such as
Susan Shirk and Shaofeng Chen see Chinese attempts to expand its influence as primarily a method of
ensuring that the Communist Party of China retains enough domestic support to hold on to power.
This paper argues that the rise of China s global involvement in the 21st century is largely a result of
its quest for energy security, which has motivated China to expand its power projection capabilities,
extend its influence in the developing world, and take on global leadership roles. China s rapid
economic rise created a huge demand for energy that generated energy security concerns within the
government. These concerns led to the onset of Chinese investment around the globe in an effort to
control energy resources. Moreover, energy security has been a primary motivator for the

Essay about Neutral Diction in Disillusionment of Ten...
The Disillusionment of Ten O Clock, what a time of night! The houses are haunted by white night
gowns. Everything is the same from one house to the next. Not only does Wallace Stevens hint at the
Disillusionment of Ten O Clock, he also brings forth feelings of loneliness and despair through his
select use of neutral diction. Stevens emphasizes neutral diction using parallelism and repetition, the
sameness of the syntax, and an ironic change in wording. Nevertheless, the emotion of the poem is
only brought about by Stevens specific use of neutral diction.

These feelings are reflected onto the reader, who in turn obtains the same emotions as the author, those
of loneliness and despair for the situation.
In every poem, the diction an author chooses can drastically change the impression the reader
acquires. Disillusionment of Ten O Clock has proven itself to not be an exception. Likewise, the order
the words are placed in can also alter a poem. Stevens was aware of this fact and so in his poem, he
paid special attention to the syntax of his words. More specifically, the author used the sameness of
the syntax to help get his point across to the reader. The majority of the sentences and lines in this
poem are similarly structured. ...Or purple with green rings, or green with yellow rings... In doing this,
Stevens was able to show the emotions of loneliness and despair that he felt at this hour.
Syntax and parallelism also played a large part in the author s emphasis of his point. By piecing both
of these things together, Stevens was able to provide the reader with an ironic change in wording for
the last four lines of the poem. It is perhaps, these last four lines that are most important in the entire
poem. Not only do they offer the reader juxtaposition between characters, but they also illustrate the
author s loneliness and despair. People are not going to dream of baboons and periwinkles. Only, here
and there, an old sailor, drunk and asleep in his boots, catches tigers in red weather. The sudden

The Innate Immune Systems And The Acquired Or Adaptive...
The immune system can broadly be divided into two categories: the innate immune system and the
acquired or adaptive immune system. The innate system acts like the first line of defense, it works by
recognizing a broad range of pathogens on the basis of their patterns and certain molecules that are
different from those found in the organism e.g. the human innate immune system will recognize
peptidoglycans that are found in bacteria but not humans. The innate system consists of physical
barriers like the skin and mucosal membrane and other cells like natural killers and cytokines. It is
thought, as of now, that the innate immune system has no memory. The acquired or adaptive immune
system on the other hand is much more specific. (Warrington, Watson, Kim, Antonett, 2011) Rick M
Maizels et al state that the reason natural selection has favored so much variation in the immune
response is because in order to survive, the organism must illicit a strong response against a large
number of invading pathogens. Had this response not been a highly evolved one, our immune system
would not have been able to fend of many complex pathogens which can themselves evolve rapidly to
encounter the hosts immune system. (Maizels Nussey, 2013)
Initially, only the innate immune system existed, but as organisms evolved another set of immune cells
starting to develop. This can be seen from the immune system of jawless fish like lamprey. These
organisms don t essentially have an adaptive immune

Set up the best Google AdWords campaign for your business needs. The first question to ask is, What
type of AdWords advertising campaign should I start with? Before you ask, it s important to
understand the difference between them.
Ads go far beyond those little boxes filled with words and pictures that pop up when someone
conducts a Google search. When it comes to Google AdWords, there are two main types of ad
campaigns the search network, and the display network. Though, it is also possible to select a
combination of search and display network ads. Additionally, there are some specifically focused
campaigns that use shopping, video and apps to draw and keep customers. Here are some of the most
widely used and successful ad campaign types.
The Search Network The way this type of advertising campaign works is that you link AdWords to
keywords and phrases. When someone searches for these linked key words or phrases, your ad will
show up. The ads that appear are relevant to the person s search. The person searching looks up what
they want under a category heading through Google much like they used to do with a phone directory
or Yellow Pages. For instance, if you are searching for a dentist, related ads for dentists will
conveniently appear. The Search Network type of ad campaign targets the search partners so that your
ads display not only in a Google search but also in other Google partners, like

Locke And Rousseau s Influence On Education
Education has been ever developing since the inception of the first schools. The early theorists
believed that children were mini adults. Children were treated the same as their adult counterparts.
They were given jobs at early ages, and dressed the same as their parents. This belief, that children
were just little adults, was called Preformationism. Though this may seem like an antiquated idea,
aspects of Preformationism are still scene in today s society. We often lapse into the same thinking
today, as when we expect young children to sit still for hour, or when we assume that their thinking is
the same as ours (Crain 5). Clearly there was the need for new theories, which would better explain
child development and education. This is where Locke and Rousseau come in.
John Locke, a British philosopher, focused on the role of social environment and experiences in
education. Locke believed that children s minds were blank slates. Meaning we are not born with any
innate notions or abilities. Locke consider the mind to be...white paper void of all characteristics,
without any ideas. (Crain 7) The mind is very pliable and ready to accept new information. Locke
believed children learned in four ways, the first of which is associations. What this means is that we
simultaneously think of two things and associate them. For example if you get sick after eating at
McDonalds, you might feel stomach pain every time you see one. The next way is repetition, or doing
something several

From what does the self originate? For ages, humans have pondered the nature of their personalities.
Several theories have been presented over the years, One implies that a person s traits are determined

environment in which the subject is in affects their characteristics far more than any deep seated traits.
This question, as well as many others, are topics that are brought to exhibition in Tom Wolfe s book

British Influence On Australian Society
Thesis
The British were a vital part of the history of Australia. They explored the world creating colonies all
over, but January 18, 1788 is when they first colonized Australia bringing with them many convicts
from Britain. Through their exploration and colonization they traded many economic, political, and
social aspects from Britain with the aborigines that they encountered in Australia. Without Britain
sending people over to Australia, the continent known as the land down under would not be the same
today.

4. Aside from the occasional Indonesian trader or curious European sailor, the majority of the
Australian Indigenous population had never seen other humans for many thousands of years. Yet,
during the late 18th century, this would all change as the Europeans began to explore and inhabit
Australia.
During 1770, Captain James Cook, a British Lieutenant, landed his ship theEndeavour at Botany Bay
in New South Wales. Two Indigenous people from the area were unhappy and tried to stop Cook and
his crew from coming ashore. Cook s crew were greater in number and were able to overpower them.
They raised the British flag, which represented the taking of possession of land (Australia) for the
King of England. Cook explored further along the coast of Australia before returning to Britain with
the news of his discoveries and encounters.
This initial journey marked the beginning of great changes to the landscape of Australia and for the
local Indigenous people who lived there. The British believed they could settle on this new land in
New South Wales, which would also fix their issue of having many lawbreakers (convicts) and not
enough prisons to house them.

Sacrifices
Hello, my name is Villette Jones and I am here to give my thoughts, definition, and analysis on
Sacrifice. Sacrifice has many different meaning and even more synonyms to go along with it, a few
words or phrases that catch my immediate attention when thinking of Sacrifice are ( Cede, Immolate,
Endure, and Part With ). However when I asked associates and my peers majority of them thought of
Forfeit. When I take time to really think, in my own opinion Sacrifice is Forfeit, Suffering, and
Offering. These are very significant second hand words to my original word (Sacrifice), and as you
read along I will show you exactly what I mean by it.
The meaning I get from the word Forfeit is Loses, a Penalty, and being deprived of something. Forfeit
is such a major second hand word to Sacrifice and the reason forfeiting is so major, is because
majority of the time you re losing something of significant value. A great story of someone having to

Allegory In The Giver
Allegorical messages appear often in the giver because they are broad with different meanings. The
Giver is a book about a controlled community. This community is based upon sameness which means
everything is the same. They have many rules and things like climate control to maintain the
sameness. There are no individual birthdays either; at the end of the year all the babies born that year
turn one whether they were born the week before or 5 months before, this also helps maintain
sameness. When children turn twelve, at The Ceremony of Twelve, they get their assignments and this
will be their jobs from then until they became an elder. There is one person of the community who
holds all the memory about the past and this person is The Receiver. The protagonist, Jonas, becomes

Enrichment In Zoos And Aquariums
Zoos and aquariums are some of the most fun and educational places to visit. However its rare to see
just how much care and work goes into keeping animals happy and healthy. The number one goal for
any zoo or aquarium should be the wellbeing of its inhabitants. With advancements in research on
enrichment and 3d printing in veterinary care, this field is taking steps to provide animals with care
even better than before. Enrichment is an incredibly important when it comes to overall health and
wellbeing of an animal. Enrichment is anything that provokes natural behavior by mental or physical
stimulus. This is common practice in most zoological facilities and is primarily provided for mammals
and birds. However recent research suggest that enrichment could be beneficial for reptiles and
amphibians. Reptiles and amphibians have been stereotyped as rather simple minded with little
personality and minimal care needs According to Burghardt One study did formally study the effects
of enrichment in altering the behavior of yearling rat snakes (Pantherophis) (Almli and Burghardt,
2006). We used 16 snakes from two clutches of eggs from both yellow ratsnakes and black ratsnakes.
Half of each clutch were raised with more complex environments with substrate for burrowing and
branches for climbing and fed live mice; the other half were raised in standard situations with dead
prey, no climbing opportunities, and a solid substrate. The sizes of the enclosures were the same for
both groups.

Library Advantages And Disadvantages
Introduction
According to Metzger. M.C (2006), Academic Libraries continually adapt to the technological
advances and administrative challenges that follow . The staff plays an important role between the
information and the users. The staff being professional, or paraprofessional should possess the
knowledge of online databases, knowledge of all web features etc. Besides that, the systems may get
updated, replaced regularly and hence learning new or upgraded online resources must be an integral
part of every position in the library (Eells. L.L, Jaguszewski, J.M, 2008). I would like to take
Academic libraries as the Library setting.
There are many disadvantages that arise when the Librarians are not aware of the technical knowledge
in the academic libraries. In 1994, though there are computers, Librarians used to function without the
basic understanding of computers in the campuses. The presence of the internet on campus was not
supported by training programs or manuals. Along with the technological advancements, Library staff
came to know the importance of adapting themselves to technology. ... Show more content on

The Joy Luck Club By Amy Tan Character Analysis
The Joy Luck Club is Amy Tan s first novel. It consists of four sections with sixteen short stories. One
of the main issues of the novel is the relationship between Chinese mothers and their Chinese
American daughters. Your mother is in your bones. (Tan 1998, 30) There is a cultural chasm between
them because of the difference in the way they were brought up and different influences of the
environment.
The members of The Joy Luck Club are four elderly aunties who gather once a week in San Francisco
to play Mah jong and eat Chinese food. When one of the women dies, her daughter Jing mei (June) is
invited to take her place. What will I say? What can I tell them about my mother? I don t know
anything. She was my mother. (Tan 1998, 30) When she realizes that she knows very little about her
own mother she asks the aunties to tell her more about her. That is when they start telling each other
stories.
There is a linguistic gap between the mothers, who are the first generation of Chinese immigrants, and
their American born daughters. The mothers speak only fragments of English and their daughters
speak little or no Chinese at all. So the communication often becomes a matter of translations and
leads to misunderstandings. The first misunderstanding with translation is shown when Jing mei tries
to explain the significance of the club s name, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
My mother did not treat me this way because she didn t love me. She would say this biting back her
tongue, so she wouldn t wish for something that was no longer hers. The strong mother daughter
connection is not broken, even when Lindo s mother is no longer with her and she cannot express her
love directly to her. The bond is also shown in Anmei s statement that, [y]our mother is in your bones.
Meaning that no matter where the mother is and even if she does not know if her children are still
alive, she will always love

Pinchback Essay
Pinckney Benton Stewart Pinchback, commonly known as P.B.S. Pinchback, was the first African
American elected as a governor of a US state. Pinchback was born in Georgia in 1837 to a former
slave. As an adult, Pinchback volunteered for the military during the Civil War. At first, he served in
the First Louisiana Volunteers, which was an all white group then he left to create an all black
volunteer unit called the Corps d Afrique. After the war, Pinchback began his career in politics in New
Orleans. In 1968, he contributed to establishing Louisiana s new constitution during the state s 1868
Constitutional Convention. When Lieutenant Governor Oliver Dunn died in 1871, Pinchback took his
place. Shortly after, the governor of Louisiana at the time, Henry C. Warmouth, was impeached
causing Pinchback to become the new governor. Even though his term was only 36 days, he was able
to effectively govern by sanctioning 10 legislative bills. After his term as governor, Pinchback was
elected to the United States Senate but had his seat taken from him to due racially motivated actions.
Pinchback made history for his ability to obtain political power during the reconstruction era of the
South.
In 1989, Lawrence Douglas Wilder became the second African American to become governor.
Douglas was born in 1931 in Virginia. Similar to Pinchback, Wilder served in the military after being
drafted to fight in the Korean War straight out of college. He received a Bronze Star and was

Hindenburg Research Paper
The Hindenburg was a lighter than air luxurious airship that have a very enthralling story. In fact, the
airship was thoroughly inspired by the Zeppelin warship. Which was originally created by Count
Ferdinand Adolf August Heinrich von Zeppelin, the inventor of blimp airship. However, constructing
the blimp was not simple, as Zeppelin have to take on many problem until he had successfully erected
one. The Hindenburg had immensely impacted the development of aviation by ending the era of
transportation airship.
Nevertheless, the process of constructing a gigantic airship was still as complicated and tortuous for
Hugo Eckener, the mastermind. Due to the cost of building the airship, Hugo Eckener had no choice
but to accept assistance from the Nazi. As return for the cost of the airship the Hindenburg display the
symbol for the power of Hitler the, Swastikas on its fins. (Garner 2 6). Since, Eckener was of Zeppelin

that the ship was also very luxurious. While in the ship the guess would enjoyed meals in elegant

Understanding and Using Inclusive teaching and learning approaches in education and training
Shaun Brown
1.1 Describe features of inclusive teaching and learning
What is inclusive teaching?
Inclusive teaching means teaching in ways that do not isolate students, accidentally or intentionally,
from opportunities to learn. Making sure the needs of students with a variety of backgrounds, learning
styles and abilities are addressed. These strategies contribute to an overall inclusive learning
environment, in which students feel equally valued.
Even though some of us might wish to conceptualize our classrooms as culturally neutral or might
choose to ignore the cultural dimensions, students cannot check their sociocultural identities at ...

Individual work facilitates one on one interaction among students and teachers. A teacher will be able
to pay individual attention on student s performance and assess the capabilities and competencies of
students. Also I believe that if students individually focus on their work, they will be able to obtain a
better and comprehensive understanding about the subject matter. While individual work will enable
the students to improve their performance level, and teachers to individually assess the students.
However it does not facilitate any team work or collaboration between the students, and the students
would feel isolated. It would also restrict the students from learning and obtaining effective
experiences and knowledge from other students. Experts believe that each student is different.
Students have different learning styles and they prefer various learning techniques for various
subjects. Experts believe that individual work would help students to improve themselves on an
individual level through the individual interactions with their teachers. I agree with this idea, as I
believe that individual interactions with students are extremely important for students as well as
teachers to exactly identify the learning requirements of the students.
2 Group Work I believe that group work is essential to develop team work and facilitate collaboration

Benefits Of Creatine Supplements
Creatine Supplements
The use of supplements is a common thing in today s modern world, specifically in the athletic one.
Every athlete is looking for a new way to enhance performance whether it be through vitamins,
enhancers, supplements, and so on. The purpose of this paper is to take a look at the supplement that
most athletes use, which is known as creatine, and to see if it has any benefits or none at all.
Creatine is a natural generated remote guanidine compound which is synthesized in the kidneys,
pancreas, and liver and released into the blood, where after, the majority of it is stored in the skeletal
muscle (Kim et. al., 2015). Creatine s involvement in the body is that it provides the energy the
muscles need to work (CREATINE, n.d.). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One side effect that comes with taking this supplement is weight gain. This could be because creatine
allows for water buildup within the muscles (CREATNIE, n.d.). Quackwatch mentioned that the
reason for this is increasing intracellular creatine may cause an osmotic influx of water into the cell
because creatine is an osmotically active substance (1999) So it might not just be muscle mass that is
allowing those to gain weight, but the majority of it could be water weight instead. Another possible
side effect would be the effect it might have on the kidneys. Earlier, I mentioned that athletes
exceeding the normal amount recommended could see consequences and this would be one of them.
Also, taking creatine while on prescription medications can also double the effect on the kidneys as
well (CREATINE, n.d.). If someone is taking prescription medication, they must first consult with
their doctor before taking any

  • 2. A Rhetorical Analysis Of Susie Orbach s Losing Bodies Aaliah Mubarak Rhetorical Analysis Essay English Composition 101 05 Due: September 5 2014 Rhetorical Analysis of Losing Bodies Losing Bodies by Susie Orbach is an essay I found to be more effective in its ability to confuse its readers with its argument, than it is to convince them. The negative attributes of this essay: its disorderly placement of evidence for her argument, tendency to deviate significantly from its proposed thesis, the author s decision to oversimplify the target of her argument and use of logical fallacies, greatly overshadow the more positive attributes of the essay: its effective use of emotional appeal and its method of getting the reader involved in the argument through the use of rhethorical questions. The logic ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In Losing Bodies, the primary rhetorical mode used is exemplification; this is evident because Orbach s argument is structured by beginning with an introductory thesis: It could be said that the media has a great deal to answer for when it comes to how we understand our bodies today (Orbach 244). , which she attempts to support with body paragraphs containing evidence for her claim. However, while I feel this rhetorical mode to be the most appropriate for her argument s purpose, I believe that it was executed quite poorly because of the lack of organization of her ideas and poor choice in sources. In regards to rhetorical strategy, the use of pathos in her argument is expressed by appealing to the sentimental idea of motherhood throughout her essay. A particular example of Orbach appealing to emotion using the concept of the connection between mother and her child is in the passage where she suggests that the body shaming culture produced by the media causes emotional distress in pregnant mothers, which transfers harmful anxiety into the womb, where it is to be absorbed by her growing infant (Orbach, 249). Although she references no facts or statistics to support this claim, thereby inhibiting the use of logos, this strategy is a very effective in producing an emotional response. Through the mention of an implied harm to an innocent (the infant), the audience is meant to feel compelled to protect the defenseless victim from the threat (the toxic media that caused the mother s ... • 8. A Byzantine Fault Introduction Faults occur in every system which may halt the systems functionality. A fault that presents different symptoms to different observers is called a Byzantine fault. These Byzantine faults form the reason for the loss of a system service and are called Byzantine failures. A Byzantine failure may occur due to arbitrary problems like corruption in their local state, production of incorrect outputs or by processing requests incorrectly instead of the general situations like crashing or stopping. The ability of a system to defend itself from Byzantine failures is called Byzantine fault tolerance which is a sub field of fault tolerance. A reliable computer system is a system that overcomes failures, one such failure is the Byzantine Generals problem. This problem is rare and generally overlooked by the people who are unfamiliar with the problem. It brings down the entire network if not tackled properly. This problem is most common in distributed dependable network. This paper aims at explaining the Byzantine Generals problem and providing a possible solution to that problem. My motivation to write this topic comes from the wide usage of distributed systems in various fields like particle physics, bioinformatics, weather, climate, visualization and graphics, economics and finance etc., and the need to protect such systems. Failure of distributed systems leads to huge loss of resources, time and money. Thus protecting from these kinds of failure is a challenging task ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Three Main Factors Leading To The Fall Of Mayan Civilizations Mayan civilization, as one of the most dominant indigenous societies throughout the history, has never been forgotten either by historians or normal people. With its vigorous development, an era of Golden Age began during the Classic Period. However, once untouchable, Mayan civilization crashed in such a short time as if it had never appeared before. The collapse of Mayan civilization is like a mystery for historians today, so they never give up searching for evidence that caused the dramatic reversal in history. Since there was not a decisive cause led to the fall of Mayan civilization, three main factors possibly could bring about the Maya collapse contemporarily: drought, warfare between city states, and overpopulation. Foremost, drought plays a dominant role in leading to the fall of Mayan civilization. Drought has always been connected with a part of extinction because the living environment is one of the most crucial points for survival. Drought is caused by prolonged shortages of water supply and there is no species can live without water, so all the living factors are depending on the living environment. Examples Of Conflict In Rules Of The Game By Amy Tan Within the text Rules of the Game written by Amy Tan, the clash of Chinese beliefs and values with those of American beliefs and values can be seen. This clash of values and beliefs between two culture causes many mother daughter conflicts throughout the story. Waverly grew up in San Francisco in a Chinese American neighborhood while her mother was a first generation immigrant. This difference in their surroundings has caused their beliefs and values to differ from each other. Due to the clashing of Chinese and American cultures, there are multiple incidents of conflict between MeiMei and her mother. A key example of such an incident is when MeiMei is forced to accompany her mother to the Saturday market. According to the text, MeiMei s mother would proudly walk with MeiMei and tell everyone who looked towards them that MeiMei was her daughter. MeiMei then told her mom if she could stop telling everyone who looked their way that MeiMei was her daughter. Her mother misunderstood what MeiMei said, thinking that MeiMei was ashamed of walking with her. This then caused MeiMei to tell her mother, If you want to show me off, then why don t you learn to play chess. When MeiMei had realized that what she said was wrong, she ran away from her mother. To MeiMei, her mother going around and telling everyone that MeiMei was her daughter was embarrassing because she didn t want her mom to use her as a source to gain popularity. In MeiMei s beliefs, her chess victories were her own accomplishments, one she should be the only one to use since she feels as though she gained them on her own. Her mother on the other hand, sees MeiMei s achievements as a victory for the whole family and is proud of her daughter. MeiMei misunderstands this, thinking her mother was just crediting herself for MeiMei s work and so runs off. This clash in values caused this incident. MeiMei s escape from her mother leads to a new conflict of MeiMei running away from her mom. It is stated in the text that MeiMei ran through the alleyways until she realized that she was running from nothing. After two hours, MeiMei returned home and her mother said, We not concerning this girl. This girl not have concerning for us. From this it can be ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In the hands of Margaret Atwood, she used her knowledge and different interpretation of words in her dystopian novel The Handmaid s Tale in a very indirect and devious way making her novel a treasure hunt in search of these key words for the understanding of the novel. The novel takes place in Gilead, a very dark future of the United States, governed by a theocratic government which oppresses women by making them handmaids in the name of religion to cure the infertility of the population. The double entendre diction which exists throughout the whole novel adds subliminal hints on the charactarisation of the characters, such as Offred, and to the story itself, such as the religious political system that governs Gilead, which is a double entendre in itself. These different plays on diction proves the oppression of our main character and proves how powerful language can be. The main character of this novel, Offred, proves to be very analytical in her thoughts in various instances in the novel but the reader can t understand the complete meaning of this. For example, when Offred was talking about her daily routine after getting up from bed and sitting in the chair and think about the word char. It can also mean the leader of a meeting. It can also mean a mode of execution. It is the first syllable in chanty. It is the French world for flesh. None of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Its global economic and diplomatic presence has led to speculation that China will be or already is the next superpower. However, China was not always so involved in the world and the motivations that drove China to extend its influence and ability to project power remain a subject of debate. There are two major schools of thought on what motivated China to become a global actor. Certain scholars such as David Shambaugh, Elizabeth Economy, and Michael Levi, believe Chinese global influence is a result of the need to secure raw materials essential to economic and industrial development. Other scholars such as Susan Shirk and Shaofeng Chen see Chinese attempts to expand its influence as primarily a method of ensuring that the Communist Party of China retains enough domestic support to hold on to power. This paper argues that the rise of China s global involvement in the 21st century is largely a result of its quest for energy security, which has motivated China to expand its power projection capabilities, extend its influence in the developing world, and take on global leadership roles. China s rapid economic rise created a huge demand for energy that generated energy security concerns within the government. These concerns led to the onset of Chinese investment around the globe in an effort to control energy resources. Moreover, energy security has been a primary motivator for the modernization ... Everything is the same from one house to the next. Stevens emphasizes neutral diction using parallelism and repetition, the sameness of the syntax, and an ironic change in wording. In every poem, the diction an author chooses can drastically change the impression the reader acquires. Disillusionment of Ten O Clock has proven itself to not be an exception. Likewise, the order the words are placed in can also alter a poem. Stevens was aware of this fact and so in his poem, he paid special attention to the syntax of his words. More specifically, the author used the sameness of the syntax to help get his point across to the reader. The majority of the sentences and lines in this poem are similarly structured. ...Or purple with green rings, or green with yellow rings... It is perhaps, these last four lines that are most important in the entire poem. • 33. The Innate Immune Systems And The Acquired Or Adaptive... The immune system can broadly be divided into two categories: the innate immune system and the acquired or adaptive immune system. The innate system acts like the first line of defense, it works by recognizing a broad range of pathogens on the basis of their patterns and certain molecules that are different from those found in the organism e.g. the human innate immune system will recognize peptidoglycans that are found in bacteria but not humans. The innate system consists of physical barriers like the skin and mucosal membrane and other cells like natural killers and cytokines. It is thought, as of now, that the innate immune system has no memory. The acquired or adaptive immune system on the other hand is much more specific. (Warrington, Watson, Kim, Antonett, 2011) Rick M Maizels et al state that the reason natural selection has favored so much variation in the immune response is because in order to survive, the organism must illicit a strong response against a large number of invading pathogens. Had this response not been a highly evolved one, our immune system would not have been able to fend of many complex pathogens which can themselves evolve rapidly to encounter the hosts immune system. (Maizels Nussey, 2013) Initially, only the innate immune system existed, but as organisms evolved another set of immune cells starting to develop. Since The Receiver is the only one who knows things from the past The Elders often seek advice from him. If everybody had memory then everybody would experience pain; if nobody had memory of the past then they would have no one to tell them what the outcome would be, therefore everyone would continue to repeat their mistakes. • 42. Enrichment In Zoos And Aquariums Zoos and aquariums are some of the most fun and educational places to visit. However its rare to see just how much care and work goes into keeping animals happy and healthy. The number one goal for any zoo or aquarium should be the wellbeing of its inhabitants. With advancements in research on enrichment and 3d printing in veterinary care, this field is taking steps to provide animals with care even better than before. Enrichment is an incredibly important when it comes to overall health and wellbeing of an animal. Enrichment is anything that provokes natural behavior by mental or physical stimulus. This is common practice in most zoological facilities and is primarily provided for mammals and birds. However recent research suggest that enrichment could be beneficial for reptiles and amphibians. Reptiles and amphibians have been stereotyped as rather simple minded with little personality and minimal care needs According to Burghardt One study did formally study the effects of enrichment in altering the behavior of yearling rat snakes (Pantherophis) (Almli and Burghardt, 2006). We used 16 snakes from two clutches of eggs from both yellow ratsnakes and black ratsnakes. Half of each clutch were raised with more complex environments with substrate for burrowing and branches for climbing and fed live mice; the other half were raised in standard situations with dead prey, no climbing opportunities, and a solid substrate. The sizes of the enclosures were the same for both groups. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 43. Library Advantages And Disadvantages Introduction According to Metzger. M.C (2006), Academic Libraries continually adapt to the technological advances and administrative challenges that follow . The staff plays an important role between the information and the users. The staff being professional, or paraprofessional should possess the knowledge of online databases, knowledge of all web features etc. Besides that, the systems may get updated, replaced regularly and hence learning new or upgraded online resources must be an integral part of every position in the library (Eells. L.L, Jaguszewski, J.M, 2008). I would like to take Academic libraries as the Library setting. There are many disadvantages that arise when the Librarians are not aware of the technical knowledge in the academic libraries. In 1994, though there are computers, Librarians used to function without the basic understanding of computers in the campuses. The presence of the internet on campus was not supported by training programs or manuals. Along with the technological advancements, Library staff came to know the importance of adapting themselves to technology. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 44. The Joy Luck Club By Amy Tan Character Analysis The Joy Luck Club is Amy Tan s first novel. It consists of four sections with sixteen short stories. One of the main issues of the novel is the relationship between Chinese mothers and their Chinese American daughters. Your mother is in your bones. (Tan 1998, 30) There is a cultural chasm between them because of the difference in the way they were brought up and different influences of the environment. The members of The Joy Luck Club are four elderly aunties who gather once a week in San Francisco to play Mah jong and eat Chinese food. When one of the women dies, her daughter Jing mei (June) is invited to take her place. What will I say? What can I tell them about my mother? I don t know anything. She was my mother. (Tan 1998, 30) When she realizes that she knows very little about her own mother she asks the aunties to tell her more about her. That is when they start telling each other stories. There is a linguistic gap between the mothers, who are the first generation of Chinese immigrants, and their American born daughters. The mothers speak only fragments of English and their daughters speak little or no Chinese at all. So the communication often becomes a matter of translations and leads to misunderstandings. The first misunderstanding with translation is shown when Jing mei tries to explain the significance of the club s name, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Making sure the needs of students with a variety of backgrounds, learning styles and abilities are addressed. A teacher will be able to pay individual attention on student s performance and assess the capabilities and competencies of students. Also I believe that if students individually focus on their work, they will be able to obtain a better and comprehensive understanding about the subject matter. While individual work will enable the students to improve their performance level, and teachers to individually assess the students. However it does not facilitate any team work or collaboration between the students, and the students would feel isolated. It would also restrict the students from learning and obtaining effective experiences and knowledge from other students. Experts believe that each student is different. Students have different learning styles and they prefer various learning techniques for various subjects. Experts believe that individual work would help students to improve themselves on an individual level through the individual interactions with their teachers. • 48. Benefits Of Creatine Supplements Creatine Supplements The use of supplements is a common thing in today s modern world, specifically in the athletic one. Every athlete is looking for a new way to enhance performance whether it be through vitamins, enhancers, supplements, and so on. The purpose of this paper is to take a look at the supplement that most athletes use, which is known as creatine, and to see if it has any benefits or none at all. Creatine is a natural generated remote guanidine compound which is synthesized in the kidneys, pancreas, and liver and released into the blood, where after, the majority of it is stored in the skeletal muscle (Kim et. al., 2015). Creatine s involvement in the body is that it provides the energy the muscles need to work (CREATINE, n.d.). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... One side effect that comes with taking this supplement is weight gain. This could be because creatine allows for water buildup within the muscles (CREATNIE, n.d.). Quackwatch mentioned that the reason for this is increasing intracellular creatine may cause an osmotic influx of water into the cell because creatine is an osmotically active substance (1999) So it might not just be muscle mass that is allowing those to gain weight, but the majority of it could be water weight instead. Another possible side effect would be the effect it might have on the kidneys. Earlier, I mentioned that athletes exceeding the normal amount recommended could see consequences and this would be one of them. Also, taking creatine while on prescription medications can also double the effect on the kidneys as well (CREATINE, n.d.). If someone is taking prescription medication, they must first consult with their doctor before taking any ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
