A Day In Amar s Life
The day in life of Amar was great film and his life was different from mine. There
was a quote in the story that means many things and it s called, All great
achievements require time. To me, this means that if you have dreams they will take

Metropolis Growth
The Best Path for Growth in Metropolis: How to Make American Cities Flourish
Over the past thirty years, many cities throughout America have grown from dismal
places into thriving, prosperous, and growing entities. In particular, Boston, Chicago,
and New York have become cities where swarms of affluent individuals both young
and old want to live and work, instead of suburbia. While these cities had previous
ingredients for success, their commitment to education, immigration, business,
development, public transportation, and quality of life all spurred their growth and
population influx. In order for the hypothetical cityof Metropolis to flourish over the
next 20 years into a thriving entity like these cities, it must positively grow its human

Philadelphia receives around 60 percent of its revenue from a wage tax on
employees that inflicts a large financial burden on employers, but keeps residents
appeased through low property taxes (Ehrenhalt 142). The wage tax is a direct
deterrent for companies, and has compelled firms and people to move from
Philadelphia over the past 50 years (Ehrenhalt 145). Without businesses in a city,
there is no economic force encouraging the affluent to live there or spurring
development. Cities that succeed promote business, as evidenced by the fact that
their population equals the number of jobs. While Boston has an equal amount of
people and jobs, Philadelphia has 1.4 million people and only six hundred thousand
jobs (Ehrenhalt 145). Metropolis needs to have sound political leadership that does
not place high taxes on businesses like Philadelphia does. Metropolis should
encourage businesses to come to its city through tax incentives, allowing for
development and an influx of affluent individuals. Policies like these can be difficult
to implement politically, especially if they require residents to have property tax
increases to mitigate lower business taxes, as seen in Philadelphia (Ehrenhalt 155).
Metropolis, however, has to weigh business growth more heavily than residents
concerns over property taxes to
Urbanization Of The 21st Century
Introduction
The 21st century is witnessing an increase of the world s population into urban
dwellers. Dramatic movement of people into major towns and cities of the world is
caused by rapid sprawl; this is observed in developed and developing countries. This
increasing recognition is inevitable; therefore the solution to urban problems depends
largely on effective planning, infrastructural management and development. Usually,
unplanned population growth is associated to population demands that supersede
infrastructure and service capacity, leading to the degradation of the environment.
Urbanization is important, but its development is effected at the expense of
deforestation, destruction of biotopes, fragmentation of ecosystems, consequently
shrinking of the open space among many other things. A cityshould be a complex
system that should entail several interactive sub systems, it should be affected by
various factors including governmental land policies, population growth,
transportation infrastructure, market behavior to mention just a few.
Land use and transportation systems are considered as the two most vital subsystems
determining the long term urban form and structure. Meanwhile, urban growth is one
of the most important topics in urban studies, and its main driving forces are
population growth and transportation development. Rapid urban growth stresses the
capacity of governments to provide adequate basic services such as road network.
Everyone has seen urban
The Pros And Cons Of Animal Abuse
According to the Humane Society of the United States, there was a South Carolina
puppy mill that consisted of hundreds of puppies that were living in harmful
conditions with no food or water, many of them were closed up in a small cages,
and some had illnesses. Their fur was matted and the animals were sick because
they were not taken care of properly (Animal Abuse). Once all the animals were
rescued, they were relocated into animal shelters in hopes of regaining their
strength and getting adopted. Animal abuse is illegal in all fifty states because of
events like this that mistreat animals. They have rights just like humans do.
Animal shelters will help any animals they can if the animal is not already on the
brink of death. Once an animal first enters the shelter, they will be taken to have a
bath if needed. An animal that is not a stray will be sent to get neutered and get
any shots that they need. If an animal comes into the shelter as a stray, there will be
a 72 hour hold period, in hopes that the owner will arrive (Griffin). Animal shelters
such as Brother Wolf of Asheville will not only help animals who come into theirs
shelters, they will also help animals in natural disasters. In January of 2016, Brother
Wolf was called to Augusta to assist in rescuing dogs off of Deans Bridge Road in
Richmond County. Approximately twenty five dogs were rescued, obtained medical
treatment, and relocated into shelters and rescues. There are a few different types of

Examples Of Foreshadowing In The Demon Lover
Elizabeth Bowen/The Demon Lover From the moment that my pen touched paper, I
have thought of nothing but writing, and since then I have thought of practically
nothing else.... [W]hen I have nothing to write, I feel only half alive (British
Literature 1228). This shows the passion that Elizabeth Bowen had for writing. She
had always dreamed of being a writer. Although she went through some rough times,
she always expressed her thoughts with her writing. Elizabeth Bowenhad and an
unstable childhood that lacked parental love so when she wrote her stories they were
mainly about her past experiences such as the short storyThe Demon Lover.

Drover in the short story. Elizabeth also uses foreshadowing when Mrs. Drover is to
scared to look at the letter again. There it shows how Mrs. Drover feels as if there is
an intruder or that the person that wrote her the letter might return to treat her badly.
A lot of the foreshadowing Elizabeth shows throughout the short story is that Mrs.
Drover feels a bad presence with her while she is getting things that she needed
(British Literature 171).
The flashback Shown in The Demon Lover is when she has the memory of meeting
the soldier and agreeing to marry him and giving a hint that Mrs. Drover thinks the
letter came from him. She also explains a flashback by how the soldier would treat
her showing that she might had made a promise to him that she didn t keep (British
Literature 171).
Elizabeth Bowen uses ambiguity to create mystery to the story. As to how the
letter arrived to the house, who sent the letter, what promise Mrs.Drover made to
her soldier fiance, and the ending of the story all bring a thought of mystery when
reading it. The promise that Mrs. Drover could have made to the soldier could
have been to always be true to him and not marry or that she would die if he died.
At the ending of the story it could have been the ghost of the dead soldier or that she
has gone crazy after the war (British Literature
Star-Crossed Lovers In Shakespeare s Romeo And Juliet
Star crossed lovers are meant to be split apart. In the tragedy, Romeo and Juliet, by
William Shakespeare, one can witness how severe mistakes were neglected and left
unfulfilled, that led to the tragic passing of the two protagonists. Adversaries as
families Romeo and Juliet come from two different sides of the spectrum, yet fall
deeply in love, but emerging from the conflict of the families do both Romeo and
Juliet die. Their death is caused not so much by their flaws, but by numerous
obstacles in their path, which are created by other characters. To that end, the
characters that most dramatically and critically affected the circumstances that led to
the deaths of Romeo and Juliet are Tybalt, the Nurse, and Friar Laurence. First,
Tybalt contributed to the deaths of Romeo and Juliet by appearing intelligent, as he
was an attention seeker. To start, he carried a grudge against Romeo and said to him
that this shall not excuse the injuries, that thou hast done to me (Act 3, Scene 1, Line
__), which... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
She supported Romeo and Juliet s marriage, undeterred by the feuding families.
The Nurse began meddling in Juliet s love life and took an influence on what
decisions she made while defying the orders of the Capulets. She told Juliet to rush
over to Friar Laurence s cell and that there stays a husband to make you a wife (Act
2, Scene 5, Line __). In addition, she advised her to fetch a ladder, by the which
your love must climb a bird s nest soon when it is dark for Romeo to meet up with
Juliet (Act 2, Scene 5, Line __). After all, from the very beginning, the Nurse could
have prevented the love between Romeo and Juliet from intensifying since only a few
others knew of their secret entanglement. However, she knew Romeo and Juliet were
forbidden from engaging, but the Nurse encouraged them to keep meeting, resulting

advertisement for brown rice with sweet potato flavored Triscuit crackers. This
colorful magazine advertisement contains an image of the product box in the
bottom right hand corner with brown rice, a sweet potato cut open and a small
visual of a wheat stalk placed thoughtfully within the space. The box is open and
depicts these healthy foods spilling out of it. There is also an image of an
attractive rustic plate and on it the crackers made into various bite size appetizers.
One has cheese and a small piece of an herb, while one has a soft cheese with a
slice of grape tomato, and another has a piece of cheese and prosciutto. The

marketing communications accomplished their objective. The second marketing
communications objective of this print advertisement is: Increase traffic of

communications message is to increase interest and sales of the one of the newest

Bacteria On The Brain By Emily Eakin
In Bacteria on the Brain By Emily Eakin, she writes about the ethics surrounding a
doctor who attempts to save the lives of patients with brain tumors by using his own
alternative methods. In Mary Shelley s Frankenstein, the author writes about Victor
and his creature s attempts to expand science, and answer moral questions concerning
life and death. Regarding the substance of the article, Neurosurgeon Dr. Paul
Muizelaar and his controversial treatment of three patients suffering from terminal
braincancer engenders serious ethical debate. On one hand, Muizelaar epitomizes a
man of brilliance and ingenuity, driven by the desire to correct his patients otherwise
hopeless situations. On the other hand, a man filled with hubris who discounted the
risks in his pursuit of success. Given the evidence present in the text of Frankenstein,
Mary Shelley would contend that Muizelaar s actions were innovative and driven
by his desire to save the lives of his patients. Shelley values the dedication to expand
the knowledge of humankind as well as life and the avoidance of death at all costs.
She often references the sciences, and the idea of pushing sciencefurther, for
example, when Victor creates life. He had worked hard for nearly two years, for the
sole purpose of infusing life into an inanimate body (35) and succeeds. In doing so he
attempts to expand the sciences with his discovery, and achieve the impossible.
Shelley highlights this dedication to broaden science when framing

A Contemporary Literature Review For Information...
Overview
Here I will provide a contemporary literature review for information management of
relevant road accidents. The task may not be easy, as lot of literature on road accident
data management has been produced in many languages and in various parts of the
world. In academics, study of information management and strategy of managing road
accidents was undertaken in different ways in many faculties and discipline such as
engineering, physical science, economic, social science, transport, geography, media,
health and education. When we look at the subject of road accident and its related
information management from the particular viewpoint or discipline, the study is
also done in with a particular ways and objectives. In this literature review, we will
try to go into the depth of the subject to focus on salient accident statistics, causes of
accidents and accident analysis with view to develop counter strategy to curb
accident in systematic manner. In the process of covering the data management,
analysis and relevance of accident issues, we will also apply Chi Square test to the
experimental data.
As seen above, there are various dimension of accident analysis and one of the
important aspect is geographical aspect of road accident. These really began with
Moellering in 1974. But the major work happened when Whitelegg 1986 outlined the
whole agenda for geography of road accidents. Whitelegg 1986 is an important work,
which summarizes many of the related study and various

Correspondingly stating individual differences by applying idioms in the text,
Adele s song shows a new sense of confidence along with the aforementioned pain
while contrastingly Motion City Soundtrack s song reveals a tone that is longing.
The lyrics in Rolling in the Deep say, See how I leave with every piece of you. Don
t underestimate the things that I will do. The speaker is shows to be unaffected by
the relationship and he/she is trying to show the past lover how easily he/she can
walk away from the relationship. The idiom reveals as somewhat of a retribution
and gives off a tone that is apathetic. With this tone, it gives off a newfound feeling
of confidence the speaker has gained for the speaker is showing that he/she could
do better without his/her past lover. The figurative language not only helps explain
the major difference from the longing My Favorite Accident expresses but it also
helps to add on to the theme that relationships do not always work out and that
could be for better or for worse. In contrast, My Favorite Accident states, I can t
swim in the silence of your skin skin please let me in. The idiom indicates the
speaker and the lover may not speak any longer and the speaker is desperate to speak
to his/her lover again. As mentioned before, the text reveals a tone that is longing.
With the desperation that is indicated
Narrative Essay On Marigolds
The day I planted my marigolds was when I was little there was this really nicely
colored blanket that my cousin got the day before. He loved it so much he would
take it everywhere; So one day I decided I wanted it one too so I took it, I would
sleep with it and it had colorful designs on it, also I knew it was wrong but i was
so mad that i wasn t thinking about it. Later that day he knew that I took it and he
yanked it off of me while I was sleeping and I woke up mad and took it back from
him both of us were so furious with each other that we started to fight and tug on
the blanket. Eventually we heard a tear in the blanket. Once he saw there was a
big tear in it he started to cry I began to tell him to stop crying but him being so
mad at me he started to cry louder. I was so scared I would get in trouble by my
mom, so I took the blanket and hid it from her so she wouldn t find out. My mom
came running to us and asked what happened and my cousin told her the whole
situation. I was so mad that he got one and I didn t get one I didn t realize what i had
done, so I apologized for what I had done but still a little mad that I didn t get one I

Statement of Purpose for Engineering and Technology
STATEMENT OF PURPOSE
Our predecessors endeavoured to make men into machines; we are endeavouring to
make machines into men (CHARLES EDWARD JERNINGHAM, The Maxims of
Marmaduke).
Skimming by these quotes is what made me to pursue my desired achievement in the
fields of electronics. The fields of electronics have brought much evolution in the
world in this past century. It also has change the way of looking at the things in our
daily life and if there is any industry that is going to completely redesigns our future
that is definitely the electronics industry.
Moreover, my interest in electronics started to develop when I first came to know
about computers and its equipment. The technology of integrated circuits of
transforming large electronic equipment into small gadgets made me astonish and
from then I started to solve the mysterious chips whenever I get to lay my hands on
them . It was then when I made my mind to pursue a career in the field of electronics.
I have always been fascinated by the abundant field of electronics; hence it is my
goal to become an electronic engineer. Hence my quest for electronics made me
follow to college which was why I chose electronics and communication engineering
and pursuing my bachelor degree as my field of expertise and got admission into the
reputed Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University s affiliated college, VIF College
of Engineering and Technology. These four years of undergraduate study has taught

The Pursuit of a Theory of Everything
The continued research regarding a Theory of Everything is also supported by a
variant of String Theory called M theory. This theory describes the fundamental
building blocks of matter not as individual point like particles, like electrons, but
immensely small strings of energy (Duft). Different particles result from different
vibrating patterns of the fundamental strings. When calculations are performed
assuming our universecontains more than three dimensions, the mathematics is
consistent and highly precise (Kaku). Supposing that this theory is shown to be
experimentally valid, then all matter and natural forces could be traced back to how
each string behaves to provide a Theory of Everything. Admittedly, experimental
evidence for M theory is difficult to obtain since, in essence, it would require ultra
sensitive detection of something smaller than a quark. However, an eleven
dimensional calculation has been used to explain the behavior of high temperature
superconductors that is simpler than a typical four dimensional quantum theory is
able to provide (Campbell). This provides evidence for the mathematics of String
Theoryin real world circumstances that may one day extend to explain the
fundamental forces. While String Theory is still far from proposing an
experimentally tested Theory of Everything, it is the closest explanation to date and
given more time it may prove to be correct.
Yet evidently, there are several flaws in arguing that String Theory will lead to the
The Argument For Genocide In Nazi Propaganda
Much later, Randall L. Bytwerk analyzed genocidal propaganda in his 2005 article
The Argument for Genocide in Nazi Propaganda. He argues that the most significant
way to argue a final solution for the Jews is by convincing the population that it was a
matter of life or death. The NSDAP government had to communicate this victim
perpetrator complex enough so that a maximum amount of people would consume
this information and be able to take it as an irrefutable, imminent danger. As Kim
Wunschman stated in her article on Jewish discrimination, the SS had to transform
German Jews from a heterogeneous minority group within society to outsiders
regarded as a homogeneous group of enemies to be excluded from any form of
communal life ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Additionally, they seemed to not want to take part in the final solution; therefore,
Bytwerk supposes that had the Nazis won the war, the German public would not
have been concerned what had become of the Jews (Bytwerk 56). This would go in
accordance with the widespread indifference of the German population along with the
already present suppression of concentration camp details. As a result, the government
legitimately reduced the Jewish population to the status of Giorgio Agamben s
coined term, homo sacer. That is, Nazis could justly kill Jews but not sacrifice them.
They could not be sacrificed since they already belonged to the gods and killing them
would not change their condition (Agamben 73). The sovereign is the only entity
which could be in authority to denote homo sacer and can do so only in the name of
preservation. In this case, the German government was the sovereign entity which
legitimately dehumanized the Jewish by reinforcing a self preservation rhetoric with
consistent propaganda. The Nazi government knew if they had bluntly presented
details on the Jewish camps and their plan of execution, the German population
would be shocked and likely unsupportive (Bytwerk 56). Moreover, the government
knew it did not need to garner undeniable support; it only needed to convince the
population that what it planned to do was best for the Germany.

Sales manager will be on the move most of their day. The significant amount of
travel can take a toll on the person of this position. Many sales managers have a full
time job and are encouraged to pursue their work after office hours whether it be
on weekends or some evenings. The most common employers of sales managers
are retail trade and wholesale trade. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics the
median annual wage for sales managers is $113,860 which means half the workers
in this occupation make more than that amount and the other half make less
(Bureau of Labor). The bottom ten percent earned less than $54,490 and the top
ten percent earned more than $187,200 (Bureau of Labor). The benefits of sales
managers vary depending on the industry they are a part of. It also takes into
consideration the product they are distributing. Most sales managers work on a
salary or commission basis where the worker will get a part of the sale amount.
The geographic expectations of a sales manager can vary by site. The job itself is
internationally demanding meaning you can find a job in this career anywhere in
the nation. The job is found in either a metropolitan or non metropolitan area
depending on the company. The projected employment growth of sales managers is

A physician equips a body by putting a bone back into its correct relationship with
the other members of the body. In a workplace, an equipper can be a physician by
first being a representation of Jesus. The equipper has to be able to demonstrate to

Millennial Vs Millennial Soldiers
Today s Army is as much a cultural melting pot as it has ever been. There is,
however, a noticeable generational difference in its current population. Millennial
and Generation X Soldiers conduct themselves in very different ways. One
example is the Millennial Soldiers need to question what can seem like a simple
task. Is this a generationally specific trait to Millennials or is it only more evident
in these Soldiers? The Millennial Soldiers request for reasoning is easily
perceived as whining. However, with an understanding of the psychology behind
the question, you will realize it is a trait that when utilized properly will allow
leaders to develop intelligent and informed Soldiers. Per Webster s dictionary,
anyone born in the 1980s or 1990s is defined as a Millennial. Therefore, by
definition, I am a Millennial and fall into the category of Soldier that I will be
discussing. However, I don t view myself as the same type of Millennial that makes
up the junior enlisted ranks of today s Army. In the Army I grew up in; as long it
wasn t illegal, immoral or inherently dangerous, we did what we were told to do.
Learning the psychology behind this change has allowed me to adjust the way I lead
to effectively communicate with my Soldiers.

Nowadays, everything has been developed by scientists, technologists, and
developers, which makes almost everything seem not only convenient, but also
people are lazy. Changing technologies, both in communication and transportation
have connected every person around the world. People can see many things different
from themselves such as cultures, civilization, social life, and human activities.
Ordinary humans have to sort things, including people when seeing many various

their experiences, research, and experiments. The authors show judgments are the
main part of the stereotype, which let us racially profile others with discrimination.
The brain s systems work automatically and naturally in order to think from sensory

appearance, and racebecause people don t want to observe the others all the time, to

venting out negativity and developing understanding, which attempts to generalize
the problem and simplifies reasoning. When we lack information on something, or

Exchange Theory In Mate Selection
The Role of Exchange and Rational Choice Theory in Mate Selection
Zenobia C. Wright
Florida A M University
Abstract
The goal of this paper is to give readers a better understanding of the Exchange
Theory, as well as Rational Choice Theory. To do this, we demonstrate how the
typical scenario of mate selection for a romantic relationship in today s society
involves trading things one may personally value for something that they feel is of
equal value that the other person in the relationship possesses. We will pay particular
attention to the connection of exchange theory in interracial relationships between
blacks and whites. This is what we call the Exchange Theory. While also seeking to
select a mate, in our minds, we calculate the things that we like and dislike about the
person. Although subconsciously done, we are constantly making a list of pros and
cons of things we value and object in the other person. In ... Show more content on

What is Exchange Theory? Exchange Theory is a way of thinking created for the
purpose of describing and explaining assumptions, procedures, and outcomes of
social exchange. According to Segre (2014), the focus of the Exchange theory is
directed towards corresponding duty created by social actors when exchanging
resources. In simpler terms, the Exchange Theory asserts that people s behaviors
and the choices that they make are all made for the purpose of and intent to achieve
a desired personal goal while also maximizing or making the most out of that
opportunity for themselves. George C. Homans developed the Exchange Theory in
his work Social Behavior as Exchange . Here, Homans attempted to explain the
relationship between actors who are in direct contact with one another (Cook

the King s Men reveal how the characters have flaws, which can result in critical
consequences. Jack Burden, Adam Stanton, Judge Irwin and Willie Starkare

Even when he does meet the Scholarly Attorney, he does not question him. If he did
delve into his past, then he could have found out that Judge Irwin was his real
father. This could have prevented Judge Irwin s death, as Jack may have refused
or would have not even been asked to find dirt on him (Warren 74). In addition, it
is ironic that despite being a historian, Jack believes in the Great Twitch, which is
that life must be viewed in a mystic vision, as life is unpredictable (Warren 473).
This allows man to feel clean and free, as their actions have no effect (Warren 473).
The irony exists in that historian study deep into the past to find the reasons for
things, and now, Jack has started to believe that these reasons do not exist. Adam
Stanton is developed as a righteous man of honor and the most civilized denizen
(Martin 1171). Despite hating Willie and his principles, Adam agrees to be the
manager of the Hospital, as he saw it was the right thing to do after he learned
about his father s sinful involvement in the bribe. He saw it as his duty to make up
for this sin. However, despite Adam being a man of principles, he commits the sin
of killing, as he assassinates Willie after learning about Anne and Willie s affair.
This instance of irony results in his own death, since Sugar Boy instantly kills
Adam after Willie dies. Irwin s character is portrayed as an embodiment of the basic
feature of every irony, as there
Anxiety And Learning Anxiety
Adolescents today are forced to face the intensified stressors of life in our high

place throughout this stage of development. As a result, the rates of many
psychopathologies increase significantly among adolescents ages 10 16. Extensive

high among adolescents with learningdisabilities (LD). However, the origin of
anxiety as it relates to LD has yet to be determined, making it hard to treat. On the

Thus, the authors hypothesized that if mindfulness meditation can encourage
attentional factors and self esteem and, thus, reduce anxiety, it may also concurrently
enhance social skills and academic performance. They also hypothesized that
mindfulness meditation (MM) would positively influence all three of these outcome
variables by mitigating cognitive interference. The participant sample was composed
of thirtyВtwo adolescent volunteers (aged 13 17) recruited from four classes in a
private high school for children with LD. For five days a week, the participants
were led in mindfulness meditation (not identified with MBSR) for five to ten

researchers used a preВpost no control design composed of three tests: the Social
Skills Rating System (SSRS), The State Trait Anxiety Inventory (STAI) and
Attitudinal questions. All three surveys were completed by both the students and
their two teachers. On postВintervention surveys, students selfВreported both
decreased state (shortВterm) and trait (longВterm) anxiety (STAI test). Moreover, the
teachers reported improvements of students social skills and academic performance

What Is Iphigenia A Hero
The concept of heroism commonly lends itself to male leaders within literature. It is
often expected of characters such as kings to possess attributes such as bravery and
integrity. While a reader s first inclination may be to see the leaders with titleship as
potential protagonists, the lesser characters can exhibit kingly qualities despite their
lower status. When defining heroism, it is important to remember the angle of
selflessness and sacrifice involved. A herotakes control of a situation and their fate for
a cause that is bigger than themselves.
Iphigenia makes a later entrance in the play, but reveals herself to be the true face
of heroism. Others around her constantly waffle between differing points of view
and focus on self centered agendas. Menelaus, for example, is willing to go to war
to not only get his wife back, but more importantly, to avoid the personal shame of
wedding an unfaithful woman. His cause may seem noble on a surface level,
however he is just one ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The reader initially feels nothing but pity and sadness for Iphigenia, as she is
being forced to die a young death for a questionable cause. But in her own words
she declares Is my life to be the only obstacle? Would that be fair? As she takes
control of her own fate, she exhibits pure courage in the face of a terrible event.
This selflessness isn t driven by any scheme, it is inherent and unadulterated.
Iphigenia desires to help her country and cannot justify her own life being spared
in opposition to an entire country and army. She is willing to give up, quite
literally, her entire being. Such a sacrifice cannot be found by any of the supposed
leaders in the play, who are willing to give up other people or things, but never
themselves (Achilles could be seen as an exception, however, in a sense, his
motivations are also intrinsically tied to defending his

Forrest Gump was portrayed as a young man with both intellectual and physical
disabilities; these characteristics categorized him abnormal/less of a man. These
disabilities made Forrest experience devaluation on various levels in different stages
of his life. His mother tried to protect him from such acts keeping him isolated and
close to home. Forrest Gumps character was made fun of a lot, throughout the film.
As a child, Forrest Gump had visual impairments that required him to wear leg
braces. These braces were to assist him with the crook in his back. Further research
relates this type of impairment with scoliosis. It is also portrayed that Forrest Gump
Depersonalization In Frrantz Fanon s Black Skin, White
Man
Frantz Fanon was one of the leading theorists of postcolonialism. His career as a
psychiatrist gave him a unique perspective and allowed him to focus on the
identity formation of the colonized subject and racial injustice. Fanon s insight and
view of colonization helped to further explain course material. In Fanon s famous
work Black Skin, White Mask, it became obvious how prevalent and severe racism
was at that time (Julien). According to Fanon, it led to depersonalization which
was so strong that colored people ultimately had to wear a white mask in order to
survive. I believe that it s very sad that colored people weren t allowed to fully
embrace who they were are and weren t able to live peacefully with the whites.
Nobody should have to pretend to be someone whom they aren t. In Frantz Fanon s
book titled The Wretched of the Earth, Frantz Fanon asserts that decolonization will
always entail violent armed struggles between the colonized and the colonists. He
makes several main points to substantiate such a bold and sweeping claim. Fanon
states, At whatever level we study decolonization, it is quite simply the substitution
of one species of mankind by another. The substitution is absolute, total, and seamless
(Fanon 1). When colonization first begins in a certain region, fights soon break out
between the natives and the colonists in hopes to preserve their land and freedom.
When the natives lose, they then have to follow the colonist s rules and regulations

who adopt because it is actually impossible, with males, to have biological children

because they would have a family of their own to live with, instead of a whole
bunch of other rambunctious kids. All people deserve the right to adopt children,
as long as they are kind people. Who cares if the parents are gay? The only aspect

that they are special, in a good way, because they have two parents who support them
Effects Of The Endocrine System

the thyroid is an endocrine gland. The thyroid gland is located inferior to the thyroid
cartilage of the larynx and anterior to the trachea and it is the gland responsible for

the thyroidgland can only release its hormones from hormones from the anterior
pituitary gland (McKinley, O Loughlin, Bidle, 2013).

This refers to the plan, structure and format of any scientific or statistical work. It
serves the purpose of guiding the researcher in his study and will set out the
framework to be used. Research design will basically cover the data collection
process, tools of collecting such data, how the tools will be used to collect data
and how to analyze the collected data into a useful form (Gosling, 2014). A problem
will be raised by researcher in which he will carry out his course study to draw an

1.Obtaining a problem you are already aware of. You may choose from social
environment and any other facts that researcher knows.
2.Asking from experts and teachers. This is also another avenue of obtaining a

The Role Of Tattoo In Pop Culture
Since tattoos were adopted into western culture, they were associated with
criminals, gang members, trouble makers, or side show entertainers. As decades
have past our traditional mind set has not since changed on the overall opinion of
what tattoos and piercings represent. With the majority of people within the United
States, it is shown that body modifications are always appeared negatively.

valued their community and took it for a granted accomplishment to attend a

story A Rose for Emily, when Emily starts seeing Homer Barron. The author
Thomas Dilworth refers in his journal A Romance to Kill for: Homicidal
Complicity in Faulkner s A Rose for Emily , By entering a love affair with Homer
Barron, Emily briefly rebelled against southern values and then, by ending her
affair with him, at least as far the townspeople were concerned, she conformed
against those values (Dilworth). The older townspeople believed that Emily forgot
her noblesse oblige . They disliked Barron because he was a Northerner Yankee .
Faulkner s own Southern culture and value are present in his story. Dilworth also
describes in his journal that the narrator, ... implies his own and his society s
cultural values which influence attitudes and behavior toward Emily in a way that
implicates him and the townspeople in her fate (Dilworth). Faulkner is describing
his own privet love story thorough Emily s love for Barron. When Faulkner fall in

Comparison Of Racism In American History X And Romper
Stero
American History X, directed by Tony Kaye, and Romper Stomper, directed by
Geoffrey Wright, share similar themes, of racism/ extremism, violence and the
influence of idols/ gangs on the impressionable. In both films, the outsiders
(Mexicans and Asian immigrants) are terrorised and beaten by Neo Nazi Skinhead
gangs in America (Los Angeles) and Australia (Melbourne). Both texts are also set in
a similar timeframe, this being the 80 s/ 90 s, reflecting the social issues of the era.
Racism and extremism are depicted clearly in both American History X and Romper
Stomper, accentuated through violent and hateful dialogue. Flashbacks are clearly
used to establish the creation and reason for these racist thoughts and extremist
behaviour in American History X. These flashbacks are shown in black and white,
symbolising the state of mind the antagonist (Derek) was in. He is presented as
narrow minded, at the height of his ideology and can only see things in right or
wrong, black or white. Once Derek realises and loathes his wrongs, he sees in
colour, a clever use of film techniques used by Kaye. The violence portrayed in both
films is also similar in the way that the Neo Nazi gangs of LA and Melbourne
terrorise minorities and believe that Mexican (American History X) and Vietnamese
(Romper Stomper) immigrants are swarming into their western suburbs, buying up
local businesses and crowding out the established residents. This is shown clearly at

Stockman Moral Relativism
What are the implications of Dr. Stockman s actions for the issue of moral relativism?
Moral relativism is the belief that moral principles depends on cultural acceptance,
or a subjective point of view. We get to see how subjective it can be reading Henrik
Ibsen s play, The Enemy of the People (Pojman 166). The play is about a doctor
(Stockman) in a Norwegian town, who learns that the water used in the towns baths
is contaminated. Dr. Stockman feels morally obligated to inform people of his
findings. His brother Peter, is the town s mayor. Peter does not think the people
need to know about the water and warns his brother to keep silent. Dr. Stockman
rejects his brother s warnings. Doing so, results in the doctor becoming an outcast. I
can imagine the dilemma that the doctor faced. He is aware of the revenue that the
baths generate for his hometown. Yet, he is also ethically responsible as a doctor to
notify citizen about the harm that the baths will cause. I was surprised at the people s
response to the doctor. He tells them the truth, but they reject it. Their actions
highlight some issues of moral relativism.
The two brothers are examples of how personal opinions and self interest determine

Marketing consists of all the activities to facilitate the exchange. Within this
societal perspective, then (1) the makers (2) what they are marketing and (3) their
potential markets all assume broad dimensions. The category of marketers might
include, in addition to business firms, such diverse social units as (a) a political
party trying to market its candidate to the public (b) the director of an art museum
providing new exhibits to generate greater attendance and financial support (c) a
labor union marketing its idea to members and to company management; and (d)
professors trying to make their courses interesting for students. In addition to the
range of items normally considered as products and services, what is being
marketed might include (a) ideas such as reducing air pollution or contributing to
the red cross (b) people, such as new football coach or a political candidate and (c)
places, such as industrial plant sites or a place to for a vocation. In a broad sense
markets include more than the direct consumers of products services and ideas. Thus
a state university s market includes the legislators who provide funds, the citizens
living near the university who may be affected by university activities and the alumni.
A business firms market may include government regulatory agencies,
environmentalists, and local tax assessors. Definition of Marketing As you already
know there are
Personal Statement Of Plastic Surgery
When I was ten years old, I was told I would need to undergo plastic surgery. I was
terrified and immediately burst into tears. I didn t become upset because I was
scared, but rather I assumed that undergoing plastic surgery meant the doctor was
going to cut a piece of my body out and replace it with plastic. I thought I was going
to be part Barbie. I eventually came to terms with this senseless idea of mine only to
learn plastic surgerywas nothing like that. This is where my interest in becoming a
physicianbegan. Prior to this, I had not had much exposure to healthcare, but that all
changed very quickly.
I was allergic to the post surgical medication and it caused me to break out. Thus, I
spent many nights in the emergency department and an abundant amount of time
in my doctors offices. By the time I was twelve I had already been a patient of a
plastic surgeon, dermatologist, pediatrician, endocrinologist, and I was about to
become the patient of an oncologist. Routine pre surgical blood work came back
abnormal and due to my family history, I was immediately sent to an oncologist.
The reason for my abnormal results that day was never found out, but I am very
fortunate I had nothing wrong with me. At this point, I realized that when I grew
up I wanted to be a physician. I wanted to be the person that helped so many others
like myself. I felt, at the age of 13, that I owed my health to these physicians and that
it was my duty to give back.
While in college, I became
The State Of City Parks
Literature Review
This section begins by determining the significance of city parks followed by an
analysis of the state of city parks in Egypt. The literature will also discuss whether
or not the landscape is appropriate for city park development. Wolch, Byrne and
Newell (2014) note that the world s cities are progressively becoming populated
and urban green space provide a variety of ecosystem services that could assist
counter social ill and enhance the life of city dwellers. City parks are know to have
several effects on the populace the major one being psychological, social, educational
and environmental.
Psychological
The psychological effect of green parks is generally regarded as having overall
health benefits on an individual. Mounting body of research indicates that mere
contact with the natural environment enhances bodily and psychological health.
One such study conducted by Marron on surgical patients in hospital facilities
confirmed their quick recovery (2013). The research, taking a span of ten years,
involved putting stand of trees in some of the rooms, while other rooms had beige
brick walls with no trees. The findings showed that patients who were subjected to
trees and an open view to a green space outside the widows spent less period in the
hospitals, had less need for the pain killers and wrote less negative feedback to their
nurses compared patient in the brick wall rooms (Marron, 2013). This study
highlights the significance of the natural
Schizophrenia Is The Most Common Mental Illness
Schizophrenia is a chronic and severe disorder which is equal in both Men and
Women and affects one percent of the worlds population, it is the most common
mental illness (Carlson 2014). Schizophrenia is the suffering from a split mind
which can start at a very early age and remain as a lifelong disease. (Tsuang 1982) In
the UK currently 250,000 people are suffering from Schizophrenia. (Crow 1991)
There are several symptoms which are found in Schizophrenics which are
characterised by positive, negative and cognitive symptoms. However some people
may differ differently due to their diagnosis of Schizophrenia. Some individuals may
show all the symptoms listed, whereas others may only display a small number of
them. (Jones et al.) In addition, the description of the symptoms of Schizophrenics
indicates that the disorder has been around for thousands of years. (Jeste et al.1985).
According to the Biological approach, Schizophrenia occurs due to brain
abnormalities which involves the absence of normal behaviour. Although, due to
Schizophrenia being strongly genetic and heritable, the presence of unusual
behaviour may be due to underlying biological factors. (Carlson 2014) The main
types of biological treatments available for Schizophrenia are Electro convulsive
therapy (ECT) and Psychosurgery, however there are other drugs therapies available
for Schizophrenia.
Electroconvulsive therapy (ECT) was developed in the 1930s and is the most
effective treatment for Schizophrenia.
A Protest Song By The Infamous Beetles
When people think of a protest song, they often think about artist such as Tupac,
N.W.A, and even Dar Williams. People remember these artist specifically because
they leave a lasting impression on them in one form or another. The first question
that comes to mind is what really is a protest song composed of? Many people do
not realize that a protest song does not just draw attention to a certain social,
emotional, and political issue. A protest song strives beyond the idea of these
clichГ© criteria. It is important to know all these criteria for the reason that
society thrives on the arts to advance a cause or problem towards success. For
many years, artist have utilized art to aid them in advancing these causes in a
positive manner. The song called Revolution by the infamous Beetles illuminates an
issue about war. Written in 1968, it has withstood much criticism from various
different social groups even today. This song enlightens the listener on John
Lennon s opinion over the Vietnam War and the effect violence can have on
society as a whole. The song is to be considered a protest song because it draws
attention to the issue about involving the U.S in combat with Vietnam, it expresses
the artist s opinion in the lyrical aspect of it, and in some form, depending on
personal opinion, offers a solution such as isolation to fix the issue at hand. It may be
surprising to many people but a majority of protest songs withstand the test of time.
Now, that does not mean that all
Essay On Emily Dickinson
Emily Dickinson I know that He exists, is the first line in one of Emily Dickinson s
many poems. This is poem number 338, and it is one of her most famous poems
even though most people do not understand it (Faulkner 8). Emily Dickinson is a
well known poet, but it was not always like that. During her lifetime, Dickinson
rarely published her poems, and it was not until later that she became famous for her
work (Crumbley 1). During Emily Dickinsons life, she was a reserved person, to the
point of being a recluse, which gives her life mystery and interest. She had many
things that influenced her, and her unique style which created her unusual works.
Through her later published work, she influenced many literary figures to come.

The whole time while she was shutting herself from the community, she was
writing poems and corresponding with others. She wrote 295 poems in just 1863
and over 1,000 poems in eight years. Even though she wrote all of these poems,
rarely any of them were published. The whole time she kept them in handmade
booklets called fascicles. Fascicles were books where her poems that were folded
and printed out on a special piece of paper. Also, there were two holes on the left
with a string attached that held the poems together (Crumbley 5). Unusual for the
time, Dickinson never married and only had one known romantic relationship
with Judge Otis Lord (Faulkner 4). Susan, her sister in law was one of her closest
friends who received many letters from Dickinson. It is estimated that she
corresponded with nearly one hundred people, some more regularly than others. It
is estimated that through her correspondence she included some 500 poems. It is
unsure how many could have been undocumented and lost forever (Crumbley 6).
Emily Dickinson passed away on May 15, 1886, in Amherst, Massachusetts at the
age of 55. It is said that she died because of Bright s disease, but it could have also
been the result of hypertension aggravation because of family losses (Crumbley 7).
After her death in 1886, she left all of her belongings to her sister, including her box
of poems. Her family was shocked to realize the extent of

  • 3. Metropolis Growth The Best Path for Growth in Metropolis: How to Make American Cities Flourish Over the past thirty years, many cities throughout America have grown from dismal places into thriving, prosperous, and growing entities. In particular, Boston, Chicago, and New York have become cities where swarms of affluent individuals both young and old want to live and work, instead of suburbia. While these cities had previous ingredients for success, their commitment to education, immigration, business, development, public transportation, and quality of life all spurred their growth and population influx. In order for the hypothetical cityof Metropolis to flourish over the next 20 years into a thriving entity like these cities, it must positively grow its human ... Philadelphia receives around 60 percent of its revenue from a wage tax on employees that inflicts a large financial burden on employers, but keeps residents appeased through low property taxes (Ehrenhalt 142). The wage tax is a direct deterrent for companies, and has compelled firms and people to move from Philadelphia over the past 50 years (Ehrenhalt 145). Without businesses in a city, there is no economic force encouraging the affluent to live there or spurring development. Cities that succeed promote business, as evidenced by the fact that their population equals the number of jobs. While Boston has an equal amount of people and jobs, Philadelphia has 1.4 million people and only six hundred thousand jobs (Ehrenhalt 145). Metropolis needs to have sound political leadership that does not place high taxes on businesses like Philadelphia does. Metropolis should encourage businesses to come to its city through tax incentives, allowing for development and an influx of affluent individuals. Policies like these can be difficult to implement politically, especially if they require residents to have property tax increases to mitigate lower business taxes, as seen in Philadelphia (Ehrenhalt 155). Metropolis, however, has to weigh business growth more heavily than residents concerns over property taxes to
  • 4. Urbanization Of The 21st Century Introduction The 21st century is witnessing an increase of the world s population into urban dwellers. Dramatic movement of people into major towns and cities of the world is caused by rapid sprawl; this is observed in developed and developing countries. This increasing recognition is inevitable; therefore the solution to urban problems depends largely on effective planning, infrastructural management and development. Usually, unplanned population growth is associated to population demands that supersede infrastructure and service capacity, leading to the degradation of the environment. Urbanization is important, but its development is effected at the expense of deforestation, destruction of biotopes, fragmentation of ecosystems, consequently shrinking of the open space among many other things. A cityshould be a complex system that should entail several interactive sub systems, it should be affected by various factors including governmental land policies, population growth, transportation infrastructure, market behavior to mention just a few. Land use and transportation systems are considered as the two most vital subsystems determining the long term urban form and structure. Meanwhile, urban growth is one of the most important topics in urban studies, and its main driving forces are population growth and transportation development. Rapid urban growth stresses the capacity of governments to provide adequate basic services such as road network. Everyone has seen urban

The Pros And Cons Of Animal Abuse According to the Humane Society of the United States, there was a South Carolina puppy mill that consisted of hundreds of puppies that were living in harmful conditions with no food or water, many of them were closed up in a small cages, and some had illnesses. Their fur was matted and the animals were sick because they were not taken care of properly (Animal Abuse). Once all the animals were rescued, they were relocated into animal shelters in hopes of regaining their strength and getting adopted. Animal abuse is illegal in all fifty states because of events like this that mistreat animals. They have rights just like humans do. Animal shelters will help any animals they can if the animal is not already on the brink of death. Once an animal first enters the shelter, they will be taken to have a bath if needed. An animal that is not a stray will be sent to get neutered and get any shots that they need. If an animal comes into the shelter as a stray, there will be a 72 hour hold period, in hopes that the owner will arrive (Griffin). Animal shelters such as Brother Wolf of Asheville will not only help animals who come into theirs shelters, they will also help animals in natural disasters. In January of 2016, Brother Wolf was called to Augusta to assist in rescuing dogs off of Deans Bridge Road in Richmond County. Approximately twenty five dogs were rescued, obtained medical treatment, and relocated into shelters and rescues. There are a few different types of animals

[W]hen I have nothing to write, I feel only half alive (British Literature 1228). This shows the passion that Elizabeth Bowen had for writing. She had always dreamed of being a writer. Although she went through some rough times, she always expressed her thoughts with her writing. Elizabeth also uses foreshadowing when Mrs. Drover is to scared to look at the letter again. There it shows how Mrs. Drover feels as if there is an intruder or that the person that wrote her the letter might return to treat her badly. A lot of the foreshadowing Elizabeth shows throughout the short story is that Mrs. Drover feels a bad presence with her while she is getting things that she needed (British Literature 171). The flashback Shown in The Demon Lover is when she has the memory of meeting the soldier and agreeing to marry him and giving a hint that Mrs. Drover thinks the letter came from him. She also explains a flashback by how the soldier would treat her showing that she might had made a promise to him that she didn t keep (British Literature 171). Elizabeth Bowen uses ambiguity to create mystery to the story. As to how the letter arrived to the house, who sent the letter, what promise Mrs.Drover made to her soldier fiance, and the ending of the story all bring a thought of mystery when reading it. The promise that Mrs. Drover could have made to the soldier could have been to always be true to him and not marry or that she would die if he died. At the ending of the story it could have been the ghost of the dead soldier or that she has gone crazy after the war (British Literature

Their death is caused not so much by their flaws, but by numerous obstacles in their path, which are created by other characters. To that end, the characters that most dramatically and critically affected the circumstances that led to the deaths of Romeo and Juliet are Tybalt, the Nurse, and Friar Laurence. First, Tybalt contributed to the deaths of Romeo and Juliet by appearing intelligent, as he was an attention seeker. • 9. Bacteria On The Brain By Emily Eakin In Bacteria on the Brain By Emily Eakin, she writes about the ethics surrounding a doctor who attempts to save the lives of patients with brain tumors by using his own alternative methods. In Mary Shelley s Frankenstein, the author writes about Victor and his creature s attempts to expand science, and answer moral questions concerning life and death. Regarding the substance of the article, Neurosurgeon Dr. Paul Muizelaar and his controversial treatment of three patients suffering from terminal braincancer engenders serious ethical debate. On one hand, Muizelaar epitomizes a man of brilliance and ingenuity, driven by the desire to correct his patients otherwise hopeless situations. On the other hand, a man filled with hubris who discounted the risks in his pursuit of success. Given the evidence present in the text of Frankenstein, Mary Shelley would contend that Muizelaar s actions were innovative and driven by his desire to save the lives of his patients. Shelley values the dedication to expand the knowledge of humankind as well as life and the avoidance of death at all costs. She often references the sciences, and the idea of pushing sciencefurther, for example, when Victor creates life. He had worked hard for nearly two years, for the sole purpose of infusing life into an inanimate body (35) and succeeds. In doing so he attempts to expand the sciences with his discovery, and achieve the impossible. Shelley highlights this dedication to broaden science when framing

The task may not be easy, as lot of literature on road accident data management has been produced in many languages and in various parts of the world. In academics, study of information management and strategy of managing road accidents was undertaken in different ways in many faculties and discipline such as engineering, physical science, economic, social science, transport, geography, media, health and education. When we look at the subject of road accident and its related information management from the particular viewpoint or discipline, the study is also done in with a particular ways and objectives. In this literature review, we will try to go into the depth of the subject to focus on salient accident statistics, causes of accidents and accident analysis with view to develop counter strategy to curb accident in systematic manner. In the process of covering the data management, analysis and relevance of accident issues, we will also apply Chi Square test to the experimental data. As seen above, there are various dimension of accident analysis and one of the important aspect is geographical aspect of road accident. These really began with Moellering in 1974. But the major work happened when Whitelegg 1986 outlined the whole agenda for geography of road accidents. Whitelegg 1986 is an important work, which summarizes many of the related study and various

It also has change the way of looking at the things in our daily life and if there is any industry that is going to completely redesigns our future that is definitely the electronics industry. It was then when I made my mind to pursue a career in the field of electronics. • 16. The Pursuit of a Theory of Everything The continued research regarding a Theory of Everything is also supported by a variant of String Theory called M theory. This theory describes the fundamental building blocks of matter not as individual point like particles, like electrons, but immensely small strings of energy (Duft). Different particles result from different vibrating patterns of the fundamental strings. When calculations are performed assuming our universecontains more than three dimensions, the mathematics is consistent and highly precise (Kaku). Supposing that this theory is shown to be experimentally valid, then all matter and natural forces could be traced back to how each string behaves to provide a Theory of Everything. Admittedly, experimental evidence for M theory is difficult to obtain since, in essence, it would require ultra sensitive detection of something smaller than a quark. However, an eleven dimensional calculation has been used to explain the behavior of high temperature superconductors that is simpler than a typical four dimensional quantum theory is able to provide (Campbell). This provides evidence for the mathematics of String Theoryin real world circumstances that may one day extend to explain the fundamental forces. While String Theory is still far from proposing an experimentally tested Theory of Everything, it is the closest explanation to date and given more time it may prove to be correct. Yet evidently, there are several flaws in arguing that String Theory will lead to the
  • 17. The Argument For Genocide In Nazi Propaganda Much later, Randall L. Bytwerk analyzed genocidal propaganda in his 2005 article The Argument for Genocide in Nazi Propaganda. He argues that the most significant way to argue a final solution for the Jews is by convincing the population that it was a matter of life or death. The NSDAP government had to communicate this victim perpetrator complex enough so that a maximum amount of people would consume this information and be able to take it as an irrefutable, imminent danger. As Kim Wunschman stated in her article on Jewish discrimination, the SS had to transform German Jews from a heterogeneous minority group within society to outsiders regarded as a homogeneous group of enemies to be excluded from any form of communal life ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Additionally, they seemed to not want to take part in the final solution; therefore, Bytwerk supposes that had the Nazis won the war, the German public would not have been concerned what had become of the Jews (Bytwerk 56). This would go in accordance with the widespread indifference of the German population along with the already present suppression of concentration camp details. As a result, the government legitimately reduced the Jewish population to the status of Giorgio Agamben s coined term, homo sacer. That is, Nazis could justly kill Jews but not sacrifice them. They could not be sacrificed since they already belonged to the gods and killing them would not change their condition (Agamben 73). The sovereign is the only entity which could be in authority to denote homo sacer and can do so only in the name of preservation. In this case, the German government was the sovereign entity which legitimately dehumanized the Jewish by reinforcing a self preservation rhetoric with consistent propaganda. The Nazi government knew if they had bluntly presented details on the Jewish camps and their plan of execution, the German population would be shocked and likely unsupportive (Bytwerk 56). Moreover, the government knew it did not need to garner undeniable support; it only needed to convince the population that what it planned to do was best for the Germany.

Nowadays, everything has been developed by scientists, technologists, and developers, which makes almost everything seem not only convenient, but also people are lazy. Changing technologies, both in communication and transportation have connected every person around the world. People can see many things different from themselves such as cultures, civilization, social life, and human activities. Ordinary humans have to sort things, including people when seeing many various things for remembering. Moreover, in the articles, See Baby Discriminate by Po Bronson and Ashley Merryman, Don t Let Stereotypes Warp Your Judgments by Robert L. Heilbroner, To Any Would Be Terrorists by Naomi Shihab Nye, and Not a Genuine Black Man by Brian Copeland, the writers discuss about stereotype through their experiences, research, and experiments. The authors show judgments are the main part of the stereotype, which let us racially profile others with discrimination. The brain s systems work automatically and naturally in order to think from sensory perception. Thus, the way of thought is to classify people and others by using history, appearance, and racebecause people don t want to observe the others all the time, to prejudice in some groups, and to divide themselves racially. Stereotyping is a way of venting out negativity and developing understanding, which attempts to generalize the problem and simplifies reasoning. • 26. Exchange Theory In Mate Selection The Role of Exchange and Rational Choice Theory in Mate Selection Zenobia C. Wright Florida A M University Abstract The goal of this paper is to give readers a better understanding of the Exchange Theory, as well as Rational Choice Theory. To do this, we demonstrate how the typical scenario of mate selection for a romantic relationship in today s society involves trading things one may personally value for something that they feel is of equal value that the other person in the relationship possesses. We will pay particular attention to the connection of exchange theory in interracial relationships between blacks and whites. This is what we call the Exchange Theory. While also seeking to select a mate, in our minds, we calculate the things that we like and dislike about the person. Although subconsciously done, we are constantly making a list of pros and cons of things we value and object in the other person. In ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... According to Segre (2014), the focus of the Exchange theory is directed towards corresponding duty created by social actors when exchanging resources. In simpler terms, the Exchange Theory asserts that people s behaviors and the choices that they make are all made for the purpose of and intent to achieve a desired personal goal while also maximizing or making the most out of that opportunity for themselves. George C. Homans developed the Exchange Theory in his work Social Behavior as Exchange . Here, Homans attempted to explain the relationship between actors who are in direct contact with one another (Cook Whitmeyer,

Fanon s insight and view of colonization helped to further explain course material. In Fanon s famous work Black Skin, White Mask, it became obvious how prevalent and severe racism was at that time (Julien). Fanon states, At whatever level we study decolonization, it is quite simply the substitution of one species of mankind by another. The substitution is absolute, total, and seamless (Fanon 1). Moral relativism is the belief that moral principles depends on cultural acceptance, or a subjective point of view. We get to see how subjective it can be reading Henrik Ibsen s play, The Enemy of the People (Pojman 166). The play is about a doctor (Stockman) in a Norwegian town, who learns that the water used in the towns baths is contaminated. Dr. Stockman feels morally obligated to inform people of his findings. His brother Peter, is the town s mayor. Peter does not think the people need to know about the water and warns his brother to keep silent. Dr. Stockman rejects his brother s warnings. Doing so, results in the doctor becoming an outcast. I can imagine the dilemma that the doctor faced. He is aware of the revenue that the baths generate for his hometown. Yet, he is also ethically responsible as a doctor to notify citizen about the harm that the baths will cause. I was surprised at the people s response to the doctor. He tells them the truth, but they reject it. Their actions highlight some issues of moral relativism.
