On The Road Essay
Writing an essay on the topic "On The Road" can be a challenging task, as it requires a deep
understanding of the subject matter and the ability to articulate complex ideas in a coherent and
engaging manner. The difficulty lies not only in comprehending the intricacies of the narrative
but also in analyzing the underlying themes, characters, and symbolism presented in the text.
Crafting a compelling essay on "On The Road" demands extensive research, critical thinking, and
a profound connection with the material. It involves delving into the various layers of the novel,
exploring its historical context, and deciphering the author's intentions. Additionally, one must
be able to express personal insights and interpretations while incorporating relevant literary
theories and perspectives.
Moreover, the challenge is heightened by the need to avoid clichГ©s and present fresh
perspectives on a topic that has been extensively discussed in academic circles. Balancing the

A Summary Of Conviction In Iran
Iran has released a Christian pastor who was previously acquitted of apostasy after he
and his wife were arrested in a recent raid.
Pastor Yousef Nadarkhani was first arrested in 2009 and was charged with apostasy
after protesting the Muslim monopoly on Iranian education as unconstitutional. He
was sentenced to death the following year and the Supreme Court upheld that
decision in 2011, the Premier details.
During the court hearings, Pastor Nadarkhani was asked several times to renounce
his Christian faith to escape death penalty, but he refused to do so. He was
eventually acquitted on apostasy but was found guilty of evangelizing Muslims, a
charge that carries a three year sentence. The Christian minister was freed in Sep. 8,
2012, Christian Solidarity Worldwide (CSW) recalls. ... Show more content on

He was once again released from prison on Jan. 7, 2013.
However, the Iranian pastor was arrested again along with his wife Tina Pasandide
Nadarkhani last week after VEVAK intelligence officers raided their home in Rasht.
The raid reportedly covered ten Christian homes and resulted in the arrest of three
other Christians who still have not been released.
CSW chief executive Mervyn Thomas released a statement expressing concern over
the welfare of the three other Christians who remain in custody.
While CSW is relieved that Pastor and Mrs Nadarkhani have been freed, we remain
deeply concerned for the welfare of Yasser Mossayebzadeh, Saheb Fadaie and
Mohammadreza Omidi, who are still being held, said Thomas in a statement. The
government must be held to account for its harassment of Iran s Christian
community, in particular the constant raids on homes and repeated arrests which are
without basis.
In addition, the CSW chief called on Iran to respect constitutional human rights by
making sure that all citizens have equal access to justice regardless of their religious
Why Laptops Are Distracting America s Future Workforce
There s no denying that technology has grown to play a major role in education and
learning. Students are using laptops, tablets, and smartphones to research, complete,
and even collaborate on assignments, both in and outside of the classroom. Timothy
D. Snyder and Thomas L. Friedman both have written articles expressing their
opposing opinions on technology in the classroom. Timothy Snyder is a Professorof
History at Yale University who has written five different award winning books. In his
article, Why Laptops Are Distracting America s Future Workforce , Snyder explains
to students and teachers why he is against technology in the classroom. Thomas
Friedmanis a reporter and columnist for The New York Times, author of six award

In Thomas Friedman s article, Come the Revolution, Friedman is confident that an
online only education program called Coursera is the solution to the problems of
rising tuition and the increased importance of education in a knowledge economy.
The rhetorical strategies used by Friedman were much more effective in comparison
to Snyder s, especially his use of valid numbers, statistics, and facts to support his
claims. One example of this is in the second paragraph of Friedman s Come the
Revolution. After introducing Andrew Ng, professor and cofounder of Coursera, and
explaining the online platform s benefits, Friedman quotes Ng to support his
argument. He writes, I normally teach 400 students, Ng explained, but last semester
he taught 100,000 in an online course on machine learning. To reach that many
students before, he said, I would have had to teach my normal Stanford class for 250
years. Friedman uses the valid numbers, statistics, and facts from reliable authorities
to support his argument.
Another rhetorical strategy that was very effective for Friedman but was ineffective
in Snyder s argument is tone. Choosing words and examples carefully for tone is
important when attempting to persuade because tone indicates the writer s attitude
towards his subject or audience. In Timothy Snyder s, Why Laptops in Class Are

Nco Creed Essay
Creed of the Noncommissioned Officer and how it affects leading soldiers The
creed of the noncommissioned officer is a baseline for all noncommissioned
officers Corporal all the way up to Sergeant Major, on how to conduct oneself in
the leading of soldiers. It does not outline every single situation you may come into
throughout your military career but if you live this creed then you should be set
for success. In this paper we are going to take an in depth look into the creed and
how you can apply every aspect of it to leadership. Starting with the first sentence in
the creed No one is more professional than I, I am a Noncommissioned Officer, a
leader of soldiers. This is to be said with confidence, authority, and... Show more

Leading from the front is key for our soldiers in order maintain a high morale. The
second paragraph of the Creed of the Noncommissioned Officer gives a basic
outline as to how we should conduct ourselves as leaders towards our subordinates.
The second paragraph also ensures that we know as leaders that we are to be
proficient in all aspects of our job, both as a soldier and in our military
occupational specialty. Competence is my watchword. This sentence is telling the
leader that he is to be trained and proficient in his job. If he is not then how is he
able to pass on the knowledge, thus creating question why that person is in that
position to begin with. My two basic responsibilities will always be uppermost in
my mind accomplishment of my mission and the welfare of my soldiers. Both in the
warrior ethos and the Creed of the Noncommissioned Officer you see reference in
accomplishing the mission. From private all the way to when you pin on stripes
accomplishment of the mission is key to success in our military. Whether it is
overseas or here at home mission is not solely defined as a tactical operation. It could
be training soldiers deploying to an austere environment, accomplishing things around
the military installation in which you
Mirror Reflection
Who is the boy I see in the mirror? He is over weighted, unsuccessful, paranoid, and
insecure. It was a grotesque reflection of myself and a visualization of a loser. So I
was frequently scared to confront my true self in the mirror and ignored my
fundamental problem. When I devoured three plates of lasagna and every sip of
the cream soup that would add another pound of fat and flesh to my stomach, you
should control your eating habits, stopped were two of the many concerned advice
that I commonly heard in a daily basis. But all of them did not understand what I
was going through. People always said that the scoops of ice cream and a stack of
waffles were the problem for me, but it was more than what meets the eye for my
situation.
The stacking piles of homework and the mean test scores that always ignored the
effort I put in gave me so much frustration and stress. To overcome all this, I always
found myself reflected in the mirror holding a melting chocolate bar in my one hand
and my pencil on the other, sitting next to a pile of snacks. However, as the weight
gauge points to a new higher number everyday, I got more stress from the humiliating
number and the thoughts of others judging my appearance that led me to opening
another candy bar. It was a vicious cycle.
I look horrible, My grades are terrible. These were some of the words that always
flew around my mind when passing by other people in school. However, I always
covered all these depression with a smile
Free Play In Politics
Famous American and political journalists P.J. O Rourke and Carl Bernstein took the
stage at E.J. Thomas Performing Arts Hall on March 31, 2016 to discuss current U.S.
political and economic issues. Their performance was a part of the John S. Knight
Foundation s lecture series hosted at The University of Akron. Anxious guests talked
amongst themselves until the President of The University of Akron, Scott
Scarborough took the stage at approximately 7:42 p.m. to explain the night s roadmap
and introduce the evening s moderator, Dr. John Green. Before talking politics, Dr.
John Green, Director of the Ray C. Bliss Institute and Interim Dean for the College
of Arts and Sciences, introduced the two speakers. Their speeches were well
intentioned and felt almost too rehearsed. When discussing performance, we often
don t think about politics or political lectures. In a way, I suppose we as a society
want to believe that these leaders aren t acting or performing. Unfortunately, in this
year s presidential race, as well as the debate I attended, it s all pre scripted. With
that in mind, I think back to the first discussion post we were asked to write about
the many ways life is scripted. Nachmanovitch writes in Free Play There are many
situations in which we are inappropriately expected to plan or script the future
(Nachmanovitch, 19). Politics, for example, utilize various forms of scripting.

Judeo-Christian Tradition Research Paper
Throughout this paper, the term Judeo Christian tradition will be used to reference
the Judaism and Christianity religions as no distinction can be made between the two
with the sources provided.
Hinduism, Buddhism, and Judaism, and Christianity are four of the foremost
religious ideologies of classical antiquity. Each of these three factions beliefs in a
higher power widely vary from each other with one believing in many gods, one
believing in one god, and one believing in no god. They differ in the delivery of the
doctrine as well, with one being read from ancient texts, one from meditation, and one
from god himself. Hinduism, Buddhism, and the Judeo Christian tradition are nearly
entirely unique when compared to the other with the only ... Show more content on

Instead of through ancient text, as with Hinduism, or through the meditation of a
leader, as with Buddhism, the Judeo Christion doctrine was spoken directly from
god as he did to Moses with the ten commandments. You shall have no other god to
set against me. You shall not make a carved image for yourself [...]. You shall not
bow down to them or worship them [...]. You shall not make wrong use of the
name of the LORD your GOD [...]. Remember to keep the Sabbath day holy. You
have six days to labour [...] but the seventh day is a Sabbath [...] that day you shall
not do any work [...]. Honour thy father and your mother [...]. You shall not
commit murder. You shall not commit adultery. You shall not steal. You shall not
give false evidence against your neighbor. You shall not covet your neighbor s
house [...] or anything that belongs to him (98 99). The Judeo Christian god is not
above testing his followers faith as can be seen in the story of Job. God allowed
Satan to test Job s faith by destroying his livelihood and all that he loved. When Job s
faith did not waver as he exclaimed, The LORD gives and the LORD takes away;
blesses be the name of the LORD (99). God then allowed Satan to

Meridith s Dream Short Story
Meridith s Dream
I was in an ethereal world, where everything and everyone was light and afloat. A
place where responsibilities and duties were meaningless, because we had all the
time in the world to just float and be free. The weightlessness feeling washed over
me like waves over the seashore. I was immersed in a feeling of mild tranquility. It s
amazing how the world can be renewed just by getting rid of gravity. By defying it.
I looked around. It looked fairly ordinary, it was a small street in this small town. It
could have been any other day, any other sunset at 5:00 pm. But at the same time,
it looked extraordinary. The people hovered above the ground, some street signs
and cars were suspended in air too. As a girl was walking her dog, they both
strolled on the air as if it were like the flat grey pavement laying on the ground
below. I smiled and sighed, for this was a new world. A new beginning for
someplace that was once the most boring town on the Earth. All of the sudden,
darkness quickly flashed across my field of vision, and I woke up, in my bed. I
looked around. My bed laid on the floor, and so did my lamp and my nightstand
next to me. Everything was in it s proper place. How disappointing. I exhaled, a
small little sigh escaping from my mouth. It was just a dream of course, and it was
one I wish I hadn t woken up from. Crawling out of my bed, I stood to look up at
my clock, where it showed it was 9:30. I had slept for a full 8 hours, but I couldn t
shake the feeling of the draining tiredness away. Maybe I should rest a little more,
I thought to myself at first. But at that moment, I had remembered something. It
was my experiment! I suddenly broke out into a smile as I realized what I could
do. Today, I didn t have any work to do, so that meant I could start my experiment.
This experiment could get me one step closer to my dream of defying gravity. In a
sudden burst of motivation and excitement, I ran from my bedroom and sailed down
the stairs to my lab, where my newest invention awaited. After a few months of
extensive research, finding materials and tinkering around with things, I had finally
built my anti gravity chamber. It was a long, cylinder shaped tube, with an opening
that could fit
The Ethical Ethics Of The Court System
Abstract
This paper is going to be over the ethical misconduct that comes when working for
or in a court system. Daily there are criminals being sent to prison and being
released from prison; some for crimes that they committed, some for crimes that
they were just there at the wrong time for. But is there ever a time where people
are sent to serve a sentence for a crime they did not commit? The answer is yes.
Many of the public do not have a strong liking for lawyers, judges, or mainly just
people that work within the federal or state government. Reason being, sometimes
you may have to question the fairness, equity or the integrity of the person to know
if they are coming from a good place or not. As a lawyer this may be hard to prove ...

The amendments that were set into place were structured to give certain guidelines
that were to be followed by the judicial system and how it should be operated. As
with the fifth amendment it states no person shall be held to answer for a capital, or
otherwise infamous crime, unless on a presentment or indictment of a grand jury nor
shall any person be subject for the same offense to be in jeopardy of life or limb; nor
shall be compelled in any criminal case to be witness against himself, nor be
deprived of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law this is to be strictly
followed by the system in order to ensure that there is a delivery with justice for
whomever is being represented.
Judiciary Duties and Ethics
When it comes to the ethical standards that are to be delivered and expressed it is not
only the judge s position to do so, but along with lawyers and jurors as well. The 12
juror system, though not always works out in some cases, it is there so that when
a defendant is charged with a crime, he or she could be fairly tried by an impartial
jury of their peers. Unfortunately, jurors can never be 100% impartial, some of are
going to be biased in some way or another and will always be affected by the
outsiders. The average juror is either not capable of or not competent to accurately
decide what the manipulations of the lawyers mean and what the court room or the

3.1.4 Singapore Market
In 2008, the economy is expected to weaken slightly. As the US is coping with its
economic problems, with the possibility of oil prices increasing, if the US goes
into a serious recession, this will definitely affect the Asian region and Singapore
will be greatly affected. If the US was to suffer a serious recession in its economy, it
will most likely drag Singapore s GDP growth in the upper half if the 4.5 6.5 per cent

From Sock Puppets to the First Ammendment to the...
Recommendations Using and managing a sockpuppet is an endeavor that
necessitates vigilance, training, and proficiency. The role of the sockpuppet is still
developing across the Internet, and it is important to recognize the historical
significance of pseudonyms and anonymous speech. Additionally, it is critical to
remember the unique, primarily autonomous nature of online communities, and the
negative impact that mandated identification could have on free speech. The value of
anonymity found in the use of a sockpuppet is profoundly connected to the
establishment of the United States of America. Although John Hancock and several
others signed the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution with their real
names, pseudonyms forged the journey to the freedoms outlined in those documents.
These early examples of sockpuppets disseminated publications which united
colonizers to fight for independence. The question of anonymity was not as important
as working together to fight persecution. The Silence Dogood letters, Common Sense,
The Federalist Papers, and other writings exemplify an author s purpose for
anonymity. This initial use of sockpuppets during the American Revolution carved a
precedent for the importance of anonymity and pseudonymity in the United States,
and, therefore, led to the First Amendment of the Constitution. As the world
continues to struggle with the pressure to challenge authority anonymously,
sockpuppets in online communities present a new playing
Banking Fraud And The Banking Industry
A banking fraud is the use of illegal means to gain money, assets from depositors or
clients fraudulently while posing as a bank, agent or any other financial institution.
In many countries and especially the United States, bank fraud is a criminal offense
even though experts refer to it as a white collar crime due to the manner in which it
is carried out. The paper below will look at the vulnerabilities that face the banking
industry while using the example of Stanford Financial GroupCompany to show how
the banking fraudcan be committed. Moreover, the paper will also look at the
different frauds that can be committed in the banking sector and how the
vulnerabilities can be avoided. A fraud prevention program will also be created
meant to help companies in the banking industry prevent and detect crimes and
frauds before they occur (Riggs, 2007).
Stanford Financial Group Company: A Brief History
The Stanford Financial Group Company was a privately owned international group
that specialized in financial services under the control of Allen Stanford. Allen
Stanford controlled the financial company until United States authorities seized in at
the end of 2009 due to what came to be known as Ponzi scheme or scandal. Among
its many groups was the Stanford International Bank, with more than 50 offices in
136 countries around the globe. The company offered diversified financial services
such as brokerage and investment advisory, private and commercial banking, advising

One method used to obtain an estimate of the term structure of interest rates is
called bootstrapping. Suppose you have a one year zero coupon bond with a rate
of r1 and a two year bond with an annual coupon payment of C. To bootstrap the
two year rate, you can set up the following equation for the price (P) of the coupon
bond: /(1+r_1 )+(C_2+Par value)/(1+r_2 )^2
Because you can observe all of the variables except r2, the spot rate for two years,
you can solve for this interest rate. Suppose there is a zero coupon bond with one
year to maturity that sells for $949 and a two year bond with a 7.5 percent coupon
paid annually that sells for $1,020. What is the interest rate for two years? Suppose a
bond with three years until maturity and an 8.5 percent annual coupon sells for
$1,029. What is the interest rate for three
Analysis Of The Film Hoop Dreams
In the 1994 American documentary film Hoop Dreams, director Steve James and
writers James and Frederick Marx explore various documentary elements such as
relatable real life issues, musical tones, and interviews with honest opinions. Various
relatable life issues can be seen in the documentary such as when Arthur s father
leaves, Williams knee injury prevents him from playing sports, and the boys
struggle academically, including when Arthur was unable to attend St. Joseph
School and William strived to receive an ACT score of 18. Through the two boys
life hardships, the audience is able to better identify and relate to the two teenagers.
By seeing the two boys struggle through personal issues, the audience is able to
create a deeper relationship with the characters, as they can see that the boys are not
just basketballplayers, but real people with real problems. Furthermore, the
audience is able to have sympathy, as well as empathy for the boys, as they can
relate to the common day difficulties the boys face. In addition to this, the musical
tones of the piece helps the audience identify moments of sadness as well as
triumph in the boy s life. Due to the various music the audience is able to better
understand how the boys were truly feeling in various parts of their life. Such can be
seen when Arthur s dad leaves, and the mellow musical tone displays the despair
Arthur felt in the moment. Additionally, the audience is able to identify moments of
happiness with energetic music, such as when William finally receives his necessary
ACT score. Moreover, a final documentary element can be seen with the interviews
containing honest opinions. With the various interviews, all characters were able to
discuss their honest opinions regarding their situations. In this, the audience is able
to the identify that the opinions of the people being interviewed are their own and
no one had led them to their conclusions. This can be displayed through various
characters such as Arthur s mother being weary of her son s full ride to university,
and Williams brothers hope of his brother being a star basketball player. These
documentary elements affect the overall tone and meaning of the piece as they both
display how devastating and

Arthritis In Knee
Arthritis in Knee Causes and Treatments
Arthritis affects approximately 43 million Americans. This condition thins the joint
cartilage which then results into painful knees or hands. Types of arthritis include
osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis. Arthritis in knee happens when the hinge type
joint from the femur s lower end rubs with the upper end of the shin bone or tibia.
Also involved are the patella or knee cap as well as the fibula or the long bone which
runs right beside the tibia on the outside portion of the leg.
What Causes the Knee Pain?
Soft tissue problems are more common than arthritis. Know that it is not just arthritis
that brings about knee pain. If you want to have the problem properly diagnosed, you

Alcoholism Is Not A New Topic
Alcoholism is not a new topic. Dependence and abuse of alcohol has been the source
of constant study and research for years now. Even less unknown is alcoholism
among teenagers today. The National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism

national survey in 2014 reveals how 8.7 million young people ages 12 20 reported
that they drank alcoholbeyond just a few sips in the past month. Centers for Disease

underage drinkers consume more drinks per drinking occasion than adult drinkers.

Tally Youngblood cannot wait to turn sixteen and get the operation that will turn her

this knowledge decides to turn her back on her old dreams of turning pretty. It is
unfortunately too little too late though, and the Specials come and destroy the
settlement. The Smoke itself lives to fight another day, but Tally and Shay are taken

Essay on First Confession
Mrs. Ryan and the Priest In Frank O Connor s story First Confession , Mrs. Ryan
and the priest are different. Mrs. Ryan and the priest approach Jackie differently
and have different affects on him. Mrs. Ryan makes Jackie feel like a sinner in her
approach to him. She teaches him how to examine his heart by asking himself a
few questions, Did we take the name of the Lord, our God in Vain? Did we honor
our father and mother? Did we love our neighbors as ourselves? Did we covet our
neighbors goods? (614). This made Jackie feel like he is a sinner because he feels
that he was not honoring his grandmother and feels that he coveted Nora s pennyshe

Jackie becomes so scared that he starts to think, ...I would make a bad confession
and then die in the night and be continually coming back and burning people s
furniture (616). The priest uses an approach of understanding. He understands
Jackie s thought of being a sinner, for instance, he tells Jackie that there are a lot of
people he would like to go after with a bread knife as well. This had to make Jackie
feel better about not being a sinner because the priest had thought the same thing as
he had. For Jackie says that he tried to kill his grandmother and Nora and the priest
says, ...there s a lot of people I d like to do the same to... (618). The priest affects
Jackie by comforting him. When the priest catches Nora clipping Jackie across the
ear and yelled at her for doing this, Jackie feels comforted because no one had ever
defended him against her before. The priest also comforts him by telling Jackie,
...wait now until I m finished with the old ones. (617). Jackie now feels special
because the priest is going to take time with him. The priest comforts Jackie to
where he is not scared of confession anymore. Jackie says, The relief of it was really
enormous. (617). Between Mrs. Ryan and the priest, the method the priest uses
works better than Mrs. Ryan s does. Teaching people religion by scaring them does
not work because someone is not going to want to
The Federal Reserve Board Of Governors
Being born in August 13th of 1946, she is the sixty nine year old that is the current
chairwoman of the Federal Reserve Board of Governors. Since the Federal Reserve is
the central bank of the United States its responsibilities do include regulating other
banks and financial institutions as well as dictating the monetary policy. In order to
get into the Federal Reserve Board of Governors, one has to have a background in
Economics. From her undergraduate education, she showed an interest for
Economics, in 1967 she received her Bachelor of Arts from Brown University
where Yellen received distinction of summa cum laude. Few years later, continuing
the path towards pursuing Economics at the graduate level, she gained her Ph. D.

Non Civil Rights Issues In Education
The most glaring issue when it comes to talking about non civil rights problems in
the current administration is global warming. We as humans across the world have
put our future generations in danger. It should be our responsibility to right the
wrongs the best that we can before it gets late. Unfortunately, the current
administration would like us to think that global warming not only isn t an issue, but
that it does not exist at all. This shows a basic lack of responsibility and an uncaring
callousness that got us into this situation in the first place. To look at statistical data

Advisor Training Group Essay
The Marine Corps currently has no formal school to support advisor training or
Military Occupational Specialty (MOS) producing school. Advisor teams train,
advise, and provide mentorship support to stability operations. Advisor Training
Group (ATG) can provide an amplified capability that commanders can employ
during combat operations. Advising is one of the most effective ways to improve
stability in foreign countries. A MOS producing school would be able to track,
screen and train Marines for advising. In the summer of 2013, the ATG program was
however closed and the trained advisors went back to the fleet. Should another need
arise, the MarineCorps has no formal way to track, train, and mentor new advisors.
The Marine Corps should not only reactive ATG but also ensure the graduates of the
ATG program are awarded a MOS to ensure an adequate pool of advisors are readily
available throughout the corps.
Advisor Training Group (ATG) was closed after major conflicts ended both in
Afghanistan and Iraq. ATG mission was to Train Marine Corps advisor teams to

Essay on Breast Implants
Breast Implants
One of the first uses of silicone in a medical implant came in the form of lifesaving
tubes implanted into young children to funnel excess fluid from the brain into the
chest cavity, where the fluid could be safely metabolized and excreted. Since these
quot;shunts quot; were first used, in the late 1950s, silicone in various forms has come
to be an important part of many implants. quot;It is used in tracheotomy tubes, in
artificial lenses for the eye, in artificial heart valves and in facial implants for birth

Since this case received little attention women from all walks of life still continued to

In 1982 the quot;FDA proposed to classify silicone breast implants into a
Class III category that would require manufacturers to prove their safety in order to
keep them on the market quot; (Frontline 2).
It wasn t until 1990 that heavy media exposure began to unveil the possible links
between silicone breast implants and various types of toxic disorders. Connie Chung
of Face to Face of this same year confronted Dow

For better or worse, we live in a society that puts great emphasis on appearance. This

Technology Is Too Invasive, Lacks Transparency, And
Must...
As with any advancement, the rise of technology has its drawbacks. The internet
has allowed the creation of an industry based solely in gathering and selling mass
amounts of user data. This data collection is meant to improve and personalize a
user s experience. But the amount of data collected far exceeds the amount needed
to accomplish this. And despite the size and pervasive nature of the industry, the
general public knows very little about what they do. Data collection online is too
invasive, lacks transparency, and must be restricted. For starters, the sheer amount of
data collected is absurd. Some of it is expected, such as names, email addresses,
crash reports, and other basic pieces of information. But many companies also drew
from unexpected sources. Googlecollects data from search queries, time and date of
phone calls, length of phone calls, and even data on a user s precise location
(Google). And while a user may expect that Facebook collects data from everything
they post, they may be surprised to learn that Facebook also collects data on a user
from posts by other people. Facebook will even collect information on web activity
outside of Facebook via third party partners (Facebook). And they re hardly the only
companies to do this. In fact, there are companies that exist solely for this purpose.
They are known as data brokers , and they gather much of their information online.
When the Federal Trade Commissiondid a report on nine major data brokers, they
The A Cold Winter Night
Picture this: It s a cold winter night and you are diving on a desolate, icy road and
you are tired and in a bad mood. You spot a flash of red up ahead. A family of cats
is hiding in a torn box on the edge of the road. You have two options, drive by and
believe that they will be alright, thinking someone else will help them. Or two,
take a few seconds out of your busy schedule, clean out the back of your car and
carefully put the cats in, you know that you don t like cats but are willing to help.
Which would you choose if given the option? Think of this: It s a hot summer s day
and you are running late for a meeting and your kids are yelling in the back and you
spot a dog, just wondering around in the middle of the road, no collar and looks
like he s been without food for a few days. Would you stop to help or just honk your
horn until he moves? I m betting you say you would help but would you really? In
this day and age we don t think much of stray and wild animals roaming our streets
and roads. Just a nuisance not really a threat right? Stray animals are a huge problem
in our communities today, whether it be from hit animals, damage to houses, trashed
areas, or the pile up in our humane societies. Throughout this essay topics will be
discussed about stray animal negligence such as, stray catand dog populus, statistics,
problems in humane societies, and ultimately how to fix this problem which is by

Similarities And Differences Between Summer And Summer
There are four different seasons in each year. These four seasons include Summer,
Winter, Fall, and Spring. Each season affects various aspects of our everyday lives in
their own way. For Example, winter and summer changes almost everything that we
do during both of the times that each season occurs. Some differences of summer and
winter is temperature changes and precipitationchanges. One similarity is that the
Olympics are taken place in both seasons. Many people view winter and summer as
antonyms; however, the two seasons share some similarities.

Another one of the differences between the two seasons is the average
precipitation. During the winter, rainfall is more present than rainfall in the
summer. Nobody likes a rainy day. People are more likely to feel happy during a
day with lots of sunshine. There are many fun and entertaining games to do on a
rainy day, but many people still prefer to go outside on a sunny day and enjoy
different kinds of activities. Also, because of the precipitation in the winter, more
car wrecks are likely to happen. During the summer car wrecks are not as bad as
they are in the winter because of the dry ground and seldom rainfall. The average
winter precipitation in the state of Alabama is 5.37 inches(136 millimeters). The
average summer precipitation for the state of Alabama is 4.62 inches(117
millimeters). Also the average winter precipitation for the state of Arizona is 1.23
inches(31 millimeters). The average summer precipitation for the state of Arizona is
1.38 inches(35 millimeters).
On the other hand, winter and summer have some similarities, such as the Olympics,
season extremes, and the different holidays that take place in each season. There are
two different types of Olympics, the Winter Olympics and the Summer Olympics.
During the Summer Olympics events like tennis, hockey, and golf are taken place.
During the winter Olympics events like snowboarding, ice hockey, and figure

Why did Andy Warhol choose to use famous people to represent pop art? Warhol used
his process throughout the 1960s to reproduce multiple portraits of celebrities,
including Marilyn Diptych, Michael Jackson , Elizabeth TaylorV and Mao. Andy
Warhol duplicated images of mass produced commercial prints, using famous people,
suggesting that the media marketed celebrities just like products. Warhol, was
fascinated with the rich and famous since his childhood. Marilyn Diptych, by Andy

legendary Hollywood actress Marilyn Monroewho had died just weeks earlier. It
contains fifty images of the actress, which are all based on a single publicity
photograph from the 1953 film Niagara, in which Marilyn starred. The twenty five
pictures on the left side of the diptych are vibrantly colored while the twenty five
on the right are made in black and white evoking the relation between the celebrity

his own drawing of Marilyn Monroe, he appropriates an image that already exists.
Furthermore, the image is not some other artist s drawing, but a photograph made

Diptych was bought by Tate in London in 1980 and it s still part of the museum s

The Manley Pointer and the Misfit have many similarities and differences. They

member of dataset and every column corresponds to a specific variable. List values
of the datasets for each variable is a member of data present in the datasets and each

members that is interrelated to the number of rows in the table. Datasets can contain
more than one table that is related to one database in the database system.

Introduction
In every work environment, there are various continuous quality initiatives in
place to improve organization s product or service quality. For instance, in the
United States, many patients have been losing lives due to serious and avoidable
medical errors or safety events (Muething et al., 2012). For this reason, it is crucial
to understand how these avertable medical errors or safety events can be prevented
or eliminated. There are factors involved in the process of analyzing particular errors
in an organization. This paper focuses on two processes of error analysis (Root
Cause Analysis (RCA) and Failure Mode Effects Analysis (FMEA)) to address
unnecessary medical errors (Serious Safety Events (SSE)). SSE in a healthcare ...

These encounters make it cumbersome to classify alleviate primary causes of harm.
Therefore, it affects the ability of the society to identify and prove the efficacy of
patient safety risk management solutions that decrease medical errors and
preventable serious safety events.
Measures push for improvement, inform patients and effect payment. Both public and
private payers apply measures to make a decision on the health providers they should
contract and to enhance improvements in healthcare. Hence, describing, categorizing
and emphasizing on harm prevention is critical for any practical risk management
program.
To prevent or eliminate numerous deaths related medical errors. American Society for
Healthcare Risk Management has come up with Getting to Zero. Getting to Zero is a
Serious Safety Events initiative, which emphasizes on event investigation stages. The
core part of the investigation process is to establish harm score. This always prompts
an organizational response and risk management. Therefore, without proper and
accurate harm score examination, the chances for applying operational response may
be wanting.

Jim Crow Laws Research Paper
Jim Crow laws were laws that were in place from 1866 up until the 1960 s. These
laws were meant to enforce the principle, separate but equal which was meant to
bring equality to the races while minimizing the interactions between them. These
laws created separate but unequal environments for the races. They supported the
idea that the white race was superior to others and they created a constant state of
fear in the lives of countless African Americans. (Pilgrim, Jim Crow Museum of
Racist Memrobilia 2000) Jim Crow lawsstarted after the Supreme Court Case, Plessy
v. Ferguson. This case said that separate but equal was constitutional. The case started

Schools for children were not the only schools that were segregated. Teaching
programs were segregated as well. There were very few programs that taught black
people to be teachers and in the few programs that were in place, there were many
students. The average amount of time that an African American went to school after
high school to become a teacher was ten weeks. The average time a white person
went to college to obtain a teaching degree was two years. Due to the difference in
training facilities, black teachers were extremely underqualified to teach. This led to
black children not having the same opportunities to become a mature student as a
white child would. (Charleston s Public Schools n.d.)
One of the strictest Jim Crow laws were the ones that prohibited relationships
between African American and white people. Marriages between the races were
prohibited. Sexual relations between black men and white women was always
considered rape. A black male could not even offer to his hand to shake a white
woman s hand without the possibility of being accused of raping the female. It was
also considered improper at the time for a black male to offer to light a white
woman s cigarette because this implied that the male had improper feelings for the
white woman. (Pilgrim, Jim Crow Museum of Racist Memrobilia
The Case Of Evan Motts Assisting His Wife s Euthanasia
Essay
I am going to discuss in this essay the case of Evan Motts assisting his wife s
euthanasia. I will cover the ethical issues regarding this topic including whether or
not Evan should be punished. I will look at the theories of Kantian Ethics and
Utilitarianism to justify whether or not Evan s actions were morally right. An
Auckland man is facing a charge that carries a maximum penalty of 14 years after
assisting his terminally ill wife to commit suicide. Evan Mott researched suicide
methods and put together a kit to assist his 55 year old wife, Rosemary Mott, who
had been diagnosed with an incurable, aggressive form of multiple sclerosis a few
years before. On December 28th 2011, Rosemary asked her husband to leave the
house, when he returned she was dead. It is believed that the family knew about
the planned suicide. Evan Mott is now scheduled to appear in Auckland District
Court this month for a plea enquiry hearing on charges of assisting suicide ( Man
charged with helping wife die , 2012). The key ethical issues of this case include,
whether terminally ill patients should be able to make the choice whether they want
to end their life, or should they suffer in pain to their unavoidable death. Is it fair
that someone puts their loved one out of their misery and makes them happy but still
receives a similar punishment to that of a murderer. The key ethical issue I am
looking at is whether Evan Motts should be punished for assisting his wife s
euthanasia. The theory of
Black Skin, White Masks By Frantz Fanon
Black Skin, White Masks, by Frantz Fanon is a book that explains the psychology
of racism. Fanon studied medicine in France. He specialized in psychiatry. The
novel looks at the minds of blacks under white rule, and the effects race has on
French society. Throughout the book Fanon discusses his experience with racism in
1950 s France. He discusses many concepts like language barriers, race, dependency
complexes, and other controversies between blacks and whites. The book talks of
events that were dated in the 1950 s, but these concepts can help us to understand
racism in America today.
In the first chapter Fanon discusses the language differences between the island of
Martinique and France. This is a very important topic, because fanon associates
how the language of his people is considered the wrong language to speak.
Martinique is an island in the Caribbean that is ruled by France. Many of the
people who were well off in Martinique spoke perfect French. These were people
with a college education or people who came from France. The locals of
Martinique spoke Creole. Creole is a dialect of the French language that includes
the swallows of his r s (Pg.5). I connected the dialect creole with a dialect that is
frowned upon in America, which is Ebonics. Ebonics is Black English. Ebonics
formed when black slaves tried to teach each other the English language. Fanon wants
us to know that Creole was considered improper in and outside his community. The
only reason Creole was

The Impact Of Social Media Impact On Body Image
Kelsey Hibberd, author of Does Social Media Impact on Body Image? states that
television and magazines are the ones who normally portray the perfect ideal body
image, but to her social media has more effect to the way someone feels and see s
their body image. Kelsey did not like her middle school. Kelsey knew she would be
bullied on Facebook about the way she looked. When Kelsey was in her adolescence
she could barely handle the comments people made about her image. Kelsey was
taller than most kids and chubby. She would constantly worry about her facial
features. In her mind, everything was about her image to others. Eventually, Kelsey
did not wantto eat and changed her image dying her hair. Kelsey started talking to
other teens and teacher in schools about body image. She teaches them the hazards
of having a lot of friends on Facebook and consequences of comparing themselves

7 Habits Of Highly Effective Teens
Be Proactive, Put first things first, and sharpen the saw are three of seven habits
from Sean covey s novel The 7 Habits of Highly Effective Teens , and those three
particular habits have made an impact on me. They have made me realize that i do
them in my daily life, but also that i need to work on including the into my life.
Being proactive is taking responsibility for your life. Doing what you need to do,
and making sure it gets done. Personally in my life I keep everything organised, but
i also have a tendency to procrastinate which does not help. The habit of being
proactive is one that i truly need to work on. creating check lists, and giving myself a
time frame to get things done that is how I plan to incorporate this habit... Show more

Shay Carl is very much a family man, does what he needs to do to make sure his
family gets what they want and need. For example after his company was sold to
Disney he said Remember when we moved from Idaho to Los Angeles to start a
YouTube business? Well we sold it to the Walt Disney company. And that proves
that he took a leap to help start a company that he did not even know was going to
work out and succeeds. He took that leap so that his family could have a better life,
and it just so happened that it worked out. Although putting videos on YouTube of
your family everyday is a bit strange to anyone else, it is a daily routine for Shay
Carl. In an interview he has said that he spends between four to six hours editing and
uploading footage everyday, he has also said that i call it the 7 ings of YouTube:
capturing, editing, uploading, processing, rendering, annotating, and facebooking.
But that is his job and he loves it because he get to be with his family more than

Bob Dylan Impact on Society
Bob Dylan: An Impact on American Society in the 1960 s
Amy Blanton Professor Porter History 22
April 10, 2001
1 The 1960s was a decade of liberation for music, public opinion, dance, invention,
and the binds of racism. From this generation spawned some of the greatest musical
artists of all time one in particular, Bob Dylan. Bob Dylan is considered to be the
greatest influence on popular culture of all time. However, Bob Dylan was not born
an idol his legacy was a result of his surroundings. Throughout Bob Dylan s life,
starting with his childhood, he has been somehow affected by various historical
events, such as the after shocks of the world wars, improvement of television and
radio in society, Kennedy s assassination, the Cuban ... Show more content on

Bob Dylan, was becoming an increasingly popular musician. Despite Dylan s goal
to become a famous rock n roll star, he soon became known as a folk singer. Most
of his influences were from country, folk, and rhythm and blues. One of his biggest
role models was folk musician Woody Guthrie Bob even adopted Guthrie s Okie
accent. That was the tradition of folk music borrowing from other artists. Dylan
4 borrowed from just about every blues or folk performer he ever saw; the music
belonged to no one. 12 In 1961, Dylan s dreams were becoming a reality he was
finally going to become a star. Columbia Records offered Dylan a contract, and in
March of 1962, he released his first album, Bob Dylan, and his second, The
Freewheelin Bob Dylan, in 1963. It was around this time that Bob started writing
his protest songs (also called finger pointing songs sincere expressions of frustration
towards leaders who opposed change13), in response to the beginning of the civil
rights movement. There are several catalysts that led up to the civil rights movement.
The integration of major league baseball in 1947 and Truman s proposal to integrate
the armed forces were both pawns in starting the movement. Also, the integration of
schools in 1954 was a major event in history; the Supreme Court ruled that separate
but equal in schools was no longer tolerable. In the next year, an event took place that
would change the course of the movement. On December 1, 1955, in Montgomery,
Alabama, Rosa

It also shows that there are more African American and Latina teen births than any
other race. It s shown that most teen parents end up parenting alone because the
males aren t mature enough. Teens that live in a house with multiple generations are
more likely to succeed because they have parental support. Some may suggest that
the reason for so many teen births is because of the reality show 16 pregnant and the
media. This could be true because of the way that they glamourize being pregnant.
Young girls will look up to them and want to become like them.
Another source shows that the show is a form of birth control to some girls. Some
believe that what they see the moms go through is just another indication of why
they shouldn t become pregnant. Some things shown on the show will make you not
want to become pregnant at such a young age. Still having to go through high school
and deal with pregnancy hormones is a lot to handle. Then, having to deal with the
baby s father walking out is very stressful. Most young men who get young girls
pregnant flee when they re told the news. The Parents Television Council criticizes
the show and believe they re intent is wrong.

Film Analysis Of Mothlight, By Stan Brakhage
Mothlight, by Stan Brakhage, is also a film heavily focused on the visuals.
Released in 1963, Mothlight s running time of four minutes consists of nothing but
what look like pictures of winged insects and foliage. Further investigation reveals
that Brakhage created the film without a camera, and instead used two strips of
splicing tape to press the object enough to emit light through it (Braunstein 285).
No viewer of Mothlight will stop to wonder about a conceivable plot the film could
be trying to convey. The film itself does not express that there is a plot to be
perceived. Instead, audiences view the visuals and think only about the visuals
because it is the only thing being presented. Once the connection to the title of the
film is made, the next natural question to ask is How? The question is no longer
directed at the screen in which the film is being projected. Instead, the question
becomes about the physical objects being presented. Brakhage was able to use film to
show or emphasize a part of nature one might not have taken a second to observe. By
directing attention to film as a physical object, Brakhage used Mothlight to enlighten
audiences with a unique technique to showcase the visuals of film. A Movie and
Mothlight are both subverting preconceptions of mainstream cinema at the time, but
they both do so by calling the audience s attention to the film medium. A Movie puts
effort into directly reminding audiences that it is a film while Mothlight gets
Compare And Contrast As For Me And My House By
Sinclair Ross
As For Me and My House is a novel written by Sinclair Ross. The focus of the novel
is mainly on the struggling marriage between Mrs. Bentley and her husband,
Phillip, who recently moved to a small and lonely prairie town named Horizon
nearing the end of the Great Depression. Due to Phillip s frustrations tirelessly
working as Preacher instead of pursuing an artistic career that he would enjoy
appreciably more, he isolates himself from most of the town, including his wife. He
keeps to his study room where he, when not at work, repeatedly sketches countless
drawings. A significant detail that sticks out in the novel is the way Mrs. Bentley
perceives Phillip through his artwork during his state of depression in his room. She
sees the contrasting differences of his artistic potential between now and in the past,
the relation between his work and his mood that has resulted in his depressing
behaviour, and how he contends with their difficult situation in Horizon by sketching
drawing upon drawing.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Bentley has of her husband Phillip through his art. Mrs. Bentley s reminiscences
of her ideas about what makes an artist good provides insightful information about
her thoughts on Phillip. Her first view is that Phillip s potential has diminished
substantially from where it once was. Secondly, his art is an indicator of the type
of mood he is in, which has led to his adverse behaviour illustrated by his isolation
inside his study room. Lastly, he uses his art to manage his struggles of being
trapped in Horizon financially and for his work. It is important that Ross has
included these points in As For Me and My House since Mrs. Bentley is the one
telling the story. So, her views of other characters such as Phillip are likely biased.
With that said, understanding Phillip through Mrs. Bentley s journal, provided she is
telling the truth, is pivotal to the struggle of their marriage in the

  • 2. A Summary Of Conviction In Iran Iran has released a Christian pastor who was previously acquitted of apostasy after he and his wife were arrested in a recent raid. Pastor Yousef Nadarkhani was first arrested in 2009 and was charged with apostasy after protesting the Muslim monopoly on Iranian education as unconstitutional. He was sentenced to death the following year and the Supreme Court upheld that decision in 2011, the Premier details. During the court hearings, Pastor Nadarkhani was asked several times to renounce his Christian faith to escape death penalty, but he refused to do so. He was eventually acquitted on apostasy but was found guilty of evangelizing Muslims, a charge that carries a three year sentence. The Christian minister was freed in Sep. 8, 2012, Christian Solidarity Worldwide (CSW) recalls. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He was once again released from prison on Jan. 7, 2013. However, the Iranian pastor was arrested again along with his wife Tina Pasandide Nadarkhani last week after VEVAK intelligence officers raided their home in Rasht. The raid reportedly covered ten Christian homes and resulted in the arrest of three other Christians who still have not been released. CSW chief executive Mervyn Thomas released a statement expressing concern over the welfare of the three other Christians who remain in custody. While CSW is relieved that Pastor and Mrs Nadarkhani have been freed, we remain deeply concerned for the welfare of Yasser Mossayebzadeh, Saheb Fadaie and Mohammadreza Omidi, who are still being held, said Thomas in a statement. The government must be held to account for its harassment of Iran s Christian community, in particular the constant raids on homes and repeated arrests which are without basis. In addition, the CSW chief called on Iran to respect constitutional human rights by making sure that all citizens have equal access to justice regardless of their religious
  • 3. Why Laptops Are Distracting America s Future Workforce There s no denying that technology has grown to play a major role in education and learning. Students are using laptops, tablets, and smartphones to research, complete, and even collaborate on assignments, both in and outside of the classroom. Timothy D. Snyder and Thomas L. Friedman both have written articles expressing their opposing opinions on technology in the classroom. Timothy Snyder is a Professorof History at Yale University who has written five different award winning books. In his article, Why Laptops Are Distracting America s Future Workforce , Snyder explains to students and teachers why he is against technology in the classroom. Thomas Friedmanis a reporter and columnist for The New York Times, author of six award winning... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In Thomas Friedman s article, Come the Revolution, Friedman is confident that an online only education program called Coursera is the solution to the problems of rising tuition and the increased importance of education in a knowledge economy. The rhetorical strategies used by Friedman were much more effective in comparison to Snyder s, especially his use of valid numbers, statistics, and facts to support his claims. One example of this is in the second paragraph of Friedman s Come the Revolution. After introducing Andrew Ng, professor and cofounder of Coursera, and explaining the online platform s benefits, Friedman quotes Ng to support his argument. He writes, I normally teach 400 students, Ng explained, but last semester he taught 100,000 in an online course on machine learning. To reach that many students before, he said, I would have had to teach my normal Stanford class for 250 years. Friedman uses the valid numbers, statistics, and facts from reliable authorities to support his argument. Another rhetorical strategy that was very effective for Friedman but was ineffective in Snyder s argument is tone. Choosing words and examples carefully for tone is important when attempting to persuade because tone indicates the writer s attitude towards his subject or audience. In Timothy Snyder s, Why Laptops in Class Are Distracting America s

Nco Creed Essay Creed of the Noncommissioned Officer and how it affects leading soldiers The creed of the noncommissioned officer is a baseline for all noncommissioned officers Corporal all the way up to Sergeant Major, on how to conduct oneself in the leading of soldiers. It does not outline every single situation you may come into throughout your military career but if you live this creed then you should be set for success. In this paper we are going to take an in depth look into the creed and how you can apply every aspect of it to leadership. The second paragraph of the Creed of the Noncommissioned Officer gives a basic outline as to how we should conduct ourselves as leaders towards our subordinates. The second paragraph also ensures that we know as leaders that we are to be proficient in all aspects of our job, both as a soldier and in our military occupational specialty. Competence is my watchword. This sentence is telling the leader that he is to be trained and proficient in his job. If he is not then how is he able to pass on the knowledge, thus creating question why that person is in that position to begin with. My two basic responsibilities will always be uppermost in my mind accomplishment of my mission and the welfare of my soldiers. Both in the warrior ethos and the Creed of the Noncommissioned Officer you see reference in accomplishing the mission. From private all the way to when you pin on stripes accomplishment of the mission is key to success in our military. Whether it is overseas or here at home mission is not solely defined as a tactical operation. It could be training soldiers deploying to an austere environment, accomplishing things around the military installation in which you
  • 5. Mirror Reflection Who is the boy I see in the mirror? He is over weighted, unsuccessful, paranoid, and insecure. It was a grotesque reflection of myself and a visualization of a loser. So I was frequently scared to confront my true self in the mirror and ignored my fundamental problem. When I devoured three plates of lasagna and every sip of the cream soup that would add another pound of fat and flesh to my stomach, you should control your eating habits, stopped were two of the many concerned advice that I commonly heard in a daily basis. But all of them did not understand what I was going through. People always said that the scoops of ice cream and a stack of waffles were the problem for me, but it was more than what meets the eye for my situation. The stacking piles of homework and the mean test scores that always ignored the effort I put in gave me so much frustration and stress. To overcome all this, I always found myself reflected in the mirror holding a melting chocolate bar in my one hand and my pencil on the other, sitting next to a pile of snacks. However, as the weight gauge points to a new higher number everyday, I got more stress from the humiliating number and the thoughts of others judging my appearance that led me to opening another candy bar. It was a vicious cycle. I look horrible, My grades are terrible. These were some of the words that always flew around my mind when passing by other people in school. However, I always covered all these depression with a smile
  • 6. Free Play In Politics Famous American and political journalists P.J. O Rourke and Carl Bernstein took the stage at E.J. Thomas Performing Arts Hall on March 31, 2016 to discuss current U.S. political and economic issues. Their performance was a part of the John S. Knight Foundation s lecture series hosted at The University of Akron. Anxious guests talked amongst themselves until the President of The University of Akron, Scott Scarborough took the stage at approximately 7:42 p.m. to explain the night s roadmap and introduce the evening s moderator, Dr. John Green. Before talking politics, Dr. John Green, Director of the Ray C. Bliss Institute and Interim Dean for the College of Arts and Sciences, introduced the two speakers. Their speeches were well intentioned and felt almost too rehearsed. When discussing performance, we often don t think about politics or political lectures. In a way, I suppose we as a society want to believe that these leaders aren t acting or performing. Unfortunately, in this year s presidential race, as well as the debate I attended, it s all pre scripted. With that in mind, I think back to the first discussion post we were asked to write about the many ways life is scripted. Nachmanovitch writes in Free Play There are many situations in which we are inappropriately expected to plan or script the future (Nachmanovitch, 19). Politics, for example, utilize various forms of scripting. Political figures running for office pre write speeches that attempts to persuade or

Judeo-Christian Tradition Research Paper Throughout this paper, the term Judeo Christian tradition will be used to reference the Judaism and Christianity religions as no distinction can be made between the two with the sources provided. Hinduism, Buddhism, and Judaism, and Christianity are four of the foremost religious ideologies of classical antiquity. Each of these three factions beliefs in a higher power widely vary from each other with one believing in many gods, one believing in one god, and one believing in no god. They differ in the delivery of the doctrine as well, with one being read from ancient texts, one from meditation, and one from god himself. Instead of through ancient text, as with Hinduism, or through the meditation of a leader, as with Buddhism, the Judeo Christion doctrine was spoken directly from god as he did to Moses with the ten commandments. You shall have no other god to set against me. You shall not make a carved image for yourself [...]. You shall not bow down to them or worship them [...]. You shall not make wrong use of the name of the LORD your GOD [...]. Remember to keep the Sabbath day holy. You shall not commit adultery. You shall not steal. You shall not give false evidence against your neighbor. You shall not covet your neighbor s house [...] or anything that belongs to him (98 99). The Judeo Christian god is not above testing his followers faith as can be seen in the story of Job. God allowed Satan to test Job s faith by destroying his livelihood and all that he loved. When Job s faith did not waver as he exclaimed, The LORD gives and the LORD takes away; blesses be the name of the LORD (99). God then allowed Satan to

  • 11. Meridith s Dream Short Story Meridith s Dream I was in an ethereal world, where everything and everyone was light and afloat. A place where responsibilities and duties were meaningless, because we had all the time in the world to just float and be free. The weightlessness feeling washed over me like waves over the seashore. I was immersed in a feeling of mild tranquility. It s amazing how the world can be renewed just by getting rid of gravity. By defying it. I looked around. It looked fairly ordinary, it was a small street in this small town. It could have been any other day, any other sunset at 5:00 pm. But at the same time, it looked extraordinary. The people hovered above the ground, some street signs and cars were suspended in air too. As a girl was walking her dog, they both strolled on the air as if it were like the flat grey pavement laying on the ground below. I smiled and sighed, for this was a new world. A new beginning for someplace that was once the most boring town on the Earth. All of the sudden, darkness quickly flashed across my field of vision, and I woke up, in my bed. I looked around. My bed laid on the floor, and so did my lamp and my nightstand next to me. Everything was in it s proper place. How disappointing. I exhaled, a small little sigh escaping from my mouth. It was just a dream of course, and it was one I wish I hadn t woken up from. Crawling out of my bed, I stood to look up at my clock, where it showed it was 9:30. I had slept for a full 8 hours, but I couldn t shake the feeling of the draining tiredness away. Maybe I should rest a little more, I thought to myself at first. But at that moment, I had remembered something. It was my experiment! I suddenly broke out into a smile as I realized what I could do. Today, I didn t have any work to do, so that meant I could start my experiment. This experiment could get me one step closer to my dream of defying gravity. In a sudden burst of motivation and excitement, I ran from my bedroom and sailed down the stairs to my lab, where my newest invention awaited. After a few months of extensive research, finding materials and tinkering around with things, I had finally built my anti gravity chamber. It was a long, cylinder shaped tube, with an opening that could fit
  • 12. The Ethical Ethics Of The Court System Abstract This paper is going to be over the ethical misconduct that comes when working for or in a court system. Daily there are criminals being sent to prison and being released from prison; some for crimes that they committed, some for crimes that they were just there at the wrong time for. But is there ever a time where people are sent to serve a sentence for a crime they did not commit? The answer is yes. Many of the public do not have a strong liking for lawyers, judges, or mainly just people that work within the federal or state government. Reason being, sometimes you may have to question the fairness, equity or the integrity of the person to know if they are coming from a good place or not. As a lawyer this may be hard to prove ... The amendments that were set into place were structured to give certain guidelines that were to be followed by the judicial system and how it should be operated. As with the fifth amendment it states no person shall be held to answer for a capital, or otherwise infamous crime, unless on a presentment or indictment of a grand jury nor shall any person be subject for the same offense to be in jeopardy of life or limb; nor shall be compelled in any criminal case to be witness against himself, nor be deprived of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law this is to be strictly followed by the system in order to ensure that there is a delivery with justice for whomever is being represented. Judiciary Duties and Ethics When it comes to the ethical standards that are to be delivered and expressed it is not only the judge s position to do so, but along with lawyers and jurors as well. The 12 juror system, though not always works out in some cases, it is there so that when a defendant is charged with a crime, he or she could be fairly tried by an impartial jury of their peers. Unfortunately, jurors can never be 100% impartial, some of are going to be biased in some way or another and will always be affected by the outsiders. The average juror is either not capable of or not competent to accurately decide what the manipulations of the lawyers mean and what the court room or the

  • 15. From Sock Puppets to the First Ammendment to the... Recommendations Using and managing a sockpuppet is an endeavor that necessitates vigilance, training, and proficiency. The role of the sockpuppet is still developing across the Internet, and it is important to recognize the historical significance of pseudonyms and anonymous speech. Additionally, it is critical to remember the unique, primarily autonomous nature of online communities, and the negative impact that mandated identification could have on free speech. The value of anonymity found in the use of a sockpuppet is profoundly connected to the establishment of the United States of America. Although John Hancock and several others signed the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution with their real names, pseudonyms forged the journey to the freedoms outlined in those documents. These early examples of sockpuppets disseminated publications which united colonizers to fight for independence. The question of anonymity was not as important as working together to fight persecution. The Silence Dogood letters, Common Sense, The Federalist Papers, and other writings exemplify an author s purpose for anonymity. This initial use of sockpuppets during the American Revolution carved a precedent for the importance of anonymity and pseudonymity in the United States, and, therefore, led to the First Amendment of the Constitution. As the world continues to struggle with the pressure to challenge authority anonymously, sockpuppets in online communities present a new playing
  • 16. Banking Fraud And The Banking Industry A banking fraud is the use of illegal means to gain money, assets from depositors or clients fraudulently while posing as a bank, agent or any other financial institution. In many countries and especially the United States, bank fraud is a criminal offense even though experts refer to it as a white collar crime due to the manner in which it is carried out. The paper below will look at the vulnerabilities that face the banking industry while using the example of Stanford Financial GroupCompany to show how the banking fraudcan be committed. Moreover, the paper will also look at the different frauds that can be committed in the banking sector and how the vulnerabilities can be avoided. A fraud prevention program will also be created meant to help companies in the banking industry prevent and detect crimes and frauds before they occur (Riggs, 2007). Stanford Financial Group Company: A Brief History The Stanford Financial Group Company was a privately owned international group that specialized in financial services under the control of Allen Stanford. Allen Stanford controlled the financial company until United States authorities seized in at the end of 2009 due to what came to be known as Ponzi scheme or scandal. Among its many groups was the Stanford International Bank, with more than 50 offices in 136 countries around the globe. The company offered diversified financial services such as brokerage and investment advisory, private and commercial banking, advising clients on

Show your calculations and the algebraic manipulation of the price equation for the bond. In addition to solving the problem, write a 100 to 200 word essay on the term structure of fixed income securities. One method used to obtain an estimate of the term structure of interest rates is called bootstrapping. Suppose you have a one year zero coupon bond with a rate of r1 and a two year bond with an annual coupon payment of C. To bootstrap the two year rate, you can set up the following equation for the price (P) of the coupon bond: /(1+r_1 )+(C_2+Par value)/(1+r_2 )^2 Because you can observe all of the variables except r2, the spot rate for two years, you can solve for this interest rate. Suppose there is a zero coupon bond with one year to maturity that sells for $949 and a two year bond with a 7.5 percent coupon paid annually that sells for $1,020. What is the interest rate for two years? Suppose a bond with three years until maturity and an 8.5 percent annual coupon sells for $1,029. What is the interest rate for three

Analysis Of The Film Hoop Dreams In the 1994 American documentary film Hoop Dreams, director Steve James and writers James and Frederick Marx explore various documentary elements such as relatable real life issues, musical tones, and interviews with honest opinions. Various relatable life issues can be seen in the documentary such as when Arthur s father leaves, Williams knee injury prevents him from playing sports, and the boys struggle academically, including when Arthur was unable to attend St. Joseph School and William strived to receive an ACT score of 18. Through the two boys life hardships, the audience is able to better identify and relate to the two teenagers. By seeing the two boys struggle through personal issues, the audience is able to create a deeper relationship with the characters, as they can see that the boys are not just basketballplayers, but real people with real problems. Furthermore, the audience is able to have sympathy, as well as empathy for the boys, as they can relate to the common day difficulties the boys face. In addition to this, the musical tones of the piece helps the audience identify moments of sadness as well as triumph in the boy s life. Due to the various music the audience is able to better understand how the boys were truly feeling in various parts of their life. Such can be seen when Arthur s dad leaves, and the mellow musical tone displays the despair Arthur felt in the moment. Additionally, the audience is able to identify moments of happiness with energetic music, such as when William finally receives his necessary ACT score. Moreover, a final documentary element can be seen with the interviews containing honest opinions. With the various interviews, all characters were able to discuss their honest opinions regarding their situations. In this, the audience is able to the identify that the opinions of the people being interviewed are their own and no one had led them to their conclusions. This can be displayed through various characters such as Arthur s mother being weary of her son s full ride to university, and Williams brothers hope of his brother being a star basketball player. These documentary elements affect the overall tone and meaning of the piece as they both display how devastating and

Mrs. Ryan and the priest approach Jackie differently and have different affects on him. Mrs. Ryan makes Jackie feel like a sinner in her approach to him. The internet has allowed the creation of an industry based solely in gathering and selling mass amounts of user data. This data collection is meant to improve and personalize a user s experience. But the amount of data collected far exceeds the amount needed to accomplish this. And despite the size and pervasive nature of the industry, the general public knows very little about what they do. Data collection online is too invasive, lacks transparency, and must be restricted. For starters, the sheer amount of data collected is absurd. • 37. The Case Of Evan Motts Assisting His Wife s Euthanasia Essay I am going to discuss in this essay the case of Evan Motts assisting his wife s euthanasia. I will cover the ethical issues regarding this topic including whether or not Evan should be punished. I will look at the theories of Kantian Ethics and Utilitarianism to justify whether or not Evan s actions were morally right. An Auckland man is facing a charge that carries a maximum penalty of 14 years after assisting his terminally ill wife to commit suicide. Evan Mott researched suicide methods and put together a kit to assist his 55 year old wife, Rosemary Mott, who had been diagnosed with an incurable, aggressive form of multiple sclerosis a few years before. On December 28th 2011, Rosemary asked her husband to leave the house, when he returned she was dead. It is believed that the family knew about the planned suicide. Evan Mott is now scheduled to appear in Auckland District Court this month for a plea enquiry hearing on charges of assisting suicide ( Man charged with helping wife die , 2012). The key ethical issues of this case include, whether terminally ill patients should be able to make the choice whether they want to end their life, or should they suffer in pain to their unavoidable death. Is it fair that someone puts their loved one out of their misery and makes them happy but still receives a similar punishment to that of a murderer. The key ethical issue I am looking at is whether Evan Motts should be punished for assisting his wife s euthanasia. The theory of
  • 38. Black Skin, White Masks By Frantz Fanon Black Skin, White Masks, by Frantz Fanon is a book that explains the psychology of racism. Fanon studied medicine in France. He specialized in psychiatry. The novel looks at the minds of blacks under white rule, and the effects race has on French society. Throughout the book Fanon discusses his experience with racism in 1950 s France. He discusses many concepts like language barriers, race, dependency complexes, and other controversies between blacks and whites. The book talks of events that were dated in the 1950 s, but these concepts can help us to understand racism in America today. In the first chapter Fanon discusses the language differences between the island of Martinique and France. This is a very important topic, because fanon associates how the language of his people is considered the wrong language to speak. Martinique is an island in the Caribbean that is ruled by France. Many of the people who were well off in Martinique spoke perfect French. These were people with a college education or people who came from France. The locals of Martinique spoke Creole. Creole is a dialect of the French language that includes the swallows of his r s (Pg.5). I connected the dialect creole with a dialect that is frowned upon in America, which is Ebonics. Ebonics is Black English. Ebonics formed when black slaves tried to teach each other the English language. Fanon wants us to know that Creole was considered improper in and outside his community. The only reason Creole was

Because many people think that their dogs won t run off when they aren t on a leash, but when a dog senses something they will take off. If you own a dog that is aggressive then to try and find a trainer or try to educate yourself on how to control it and also if you have a dog that could potentially be dangerous while taking it on a walk do not to take the leash off and to be extra careful of the people around you. Because people do not realize that your dog could potentially bite someone if it is roaming freely. ВЁA dog needs to see a constant social structure and that is authoritativeВЁ, said Mr. Paquette. People see dogs as pets not as vicious animals, but if a dog is feeling threatened, then it will do the best to protect and

The Impact Of Social Media Impact On Body Image Kelsey Hibberd, author of Does Social Media Impact on Body Image? states that television and magazines are the ones who normally portray the perfect ideal body image, but to her social media has more effect to the way someone feels and see s their body image. Kelsey did not like her middle school. Kelsey knew she would be bullied on Facebook about the way she looked. When Kelsey was in her adolescence she could barely handle the comments people made about her image. Kelsey was taller than most kids and chubby. She would constantly worry about her facial features. In her mind, everything was about her image to others. Eventually, Kelsey did not wantto eat and changed her image dying her hair. Kelsey started talking to other teens and teacher in schools about body image. She teaches them the hazards of having a lot of friends on Facebook and consequences of comparing themselves to others. Twitter, Facebook, apps, WhatsApp, are some of the social media used for people to interact with each other at any time. Kelsey thinks that social media makes it easy to know so much about others life s and spread their appearance. She claims body image affects all ages, even as young as five. Most of his influences were from country, folk, and rhythm and blues. One of his biggest role models was folk musician Woody Guthrie Bob even adopted Guthrie s Okie accent. That was the tradition of folk music borrowing from other artists. Dylan 4 borrowed from just about every blues or folk performer he ever saw; the music belonged to no one. 12 In 1961, Dylan s dreams were becoming a reality he was finally going to become a star. Columbia Records offered Dylan a contract, and in March of 1962, he released his first album, Bob Dylan, and his second, The Freewheelin Bob Dylan, in 1963. It was around this time that Bob started writing his protest songs (also called finger pointing songs sincere expressions of frustration towards leaders who opposed change13), in response to the beginning of the civil rights movement. There are several catalysts that led up to the civil rights movement. The integration of major league baseball in 1947 and Truman s proposal to integrate the armed forces were both pawns in starting the movement. Also, the integration of schools in 1954 was a major event in history; the Supreme Court ruled that separate but equal in schools was no longer tolerable. In the next year, an event took place that would change the course of the movement. On December 1, 1955, in Montgomery, Alabama, Rosa

It also shows that there are more African American and Latina teen births than any other race. It s shown that most teen parents end up parenting alone because the males aren t mature enough. Teens that live in a house with multiple generations are more likely to succeed because they have parental support. Some may suggest that the reason for so many teen births is because of the reality show 16 pregnant and the media. This could be true because of the way that they glamourize being pregnant. Young girls will look up to them and want to become like them. Another source shows that the show is a form of birth control to some girls. • 45. Film Analysis Of Mothlight, By Stan Brakhage Mothlight, by Stan Brakhage, is also a film heavily focused on the visuals. Released in 1963, Mothlight s running time of four minutes consists of nothing but what look like pictures of winged insects and foliage. Further investigation reveals that Brakhage created the film without a camera, and instead used two strips of splicing tape to press the object enough to emit light through it (Braunstein 285). No viewer of Mothlight will stop to wonder about a conceivable plot the film could be trying to convey. The film itself does not express that there is a plot to be perceived. Instead, audiences view the visuals and think only about the visuals because it is the only thing being presented. Once the connection to the title of the film is made, the next natural question to ask is How? The question is no longer directed at the screen in which the film is being projected. Instead, the question becomes about the physical objects being presented. Brakhage was able to use film to show or emphasize a part of nature one might not have taken a second to observe. By directing attention to film as a physical object, Brakhage used Mothlight to enlighten audiences with a unique technique to showcase the visuals of film. A Movie and Mothlight are both subverting preconceptions of mainstream cinema at the time, but they both do so by calling the audience s attention to the film medium. A Movie puts effort into directly reminding audiences that it is a film while Mothlight gets
  • 46. Compare And Contrast As For Me And My House By Sinclair Ross As For Me and My House is a novel written by Sinclair Ross. The focus of the novel is mainly on the struggling marriage between Mrs. Bentley and her husband, Phillip, who recently moved to a small and lonely prairie town named Horizon nearing the end of the Great Depression. Due to Phillip s frustrations tirelessly working as Preacher instead of pursuing an artistic career that he would enjoy appreciably more, he isolates himself from most of the town, including his wife. He keeps to his study room where he, when not at work, repeatedly sketches countless drawings. A significant detail that sticks out in the novel is the way Mrs. Bentley perceives Phillip through his artwork during his state of depression in his room. She sees the contrasting differences of his artistic potential between now and in the past, the relation between his work and his mood that has resulted in his depressing behaviour, and how he contends with their difficult situation in Horizon by sketching drawing upon drawing.... Mrs. Bentley s reminiscences of her ideas about what makes an artist good provides insightful information about her thoughts on Phillip. Her first view is that Phillip s potential has diminished substantially from where it once was. Secondly, his art is an indicator of the type of mood he is in, which has led to his adverse behaviour illustrated by his isolation inside his study room. Lastly, he uses his art to manage his struggles of being trapped in Horizon financially and for his work. It is important that Ross has included these points in As For Me and My House since Mrs. Bentley is the one telling the story. So, her views of other characters such as Phillip are likely biased. With that said, understanding Phillip through Mrs. Bentley s journal, provided she is telling the truth, is pivotal to the struggle of their marriage in the
