Martin Luther King Jr Essay
Writing an essay on the topic of Martin Luther King Jr. can be both challenging and rewarding.
On one hand, the subject is rich with historical significance and offers ample material for
exploration. However, navigating through the vast amount of information available and selecting
the most pertinent details can be a daunting task. Additionally, capturing the essence of Martin
Luther King Jr.'s life, his contributions to the civil rights movement, and the impact of his
leadership requires a careful blend of historical analysis, eloquent expression, and a deep
understanding of the societal context.
Crafting a compelling essay on Martin Luther King Jr. necessitates thorough research to grasp the
complexities of the civil rights era and the intricacies of King's philosophy. It involves delving
into his speeches, writings, and the broader historical context to present a nuanced and well-
rounded perspective. Furthermore, the challenge lies in not merely recounting facts but in
interpreting the significance of King's legacy, assessing the evolution of his ideas, and examining
the enduring impact he has had on the fight for equality.
Moreover, the responsibility of articulating a personal viewpoint on the subject requires a writer
to navigate the fine line between objectivity and empathy. Balancing historical accuracy with a
reflective and thoughtful analysis of King's ideals and their relevance in contemporary society
adds another layer of complexity.
In conclusion, writing an essay on Martin Luther King Jr. demands not only meticulous research
and a comprehensive understanding of the subject matter but also the ability to weave together
historical facts, personal reflections, and a profound appreciation for the enduring impact of
King's legacy.
If you need assistance with similar essays or any other writing tasks, various resources, including

Peer Pressure In Teenage Movies
Bullying and peer pressure are issues that most every student in school has to deal
with. Because this is such a pertinent issue, movies are made based on these
problems. This is the teen genre. Movies from this genre are from a teenagers point
of view so they can relate to them. Heathers is a dark teen movie where the bullies
are killed off in an attempt to clean out the school. Peer pressure and bullyingare a
necessary part of the teen genre because of how big a part it takes in teen society.
Almost every film genre is based around groups of people who exist in real life.
People who are ten through nineteen make up over one tenth of the earth s
population. This creates a demand for films based upon the issues and hardships
they go through. Just like how adults can relate to movies about people barely
making enough money to pay bills or working in a boring office. Who else would
be the antagonist in a teen movie except for bullies or those who peer pressure
kids? These seem to be the biggest problems teenagers face and that is why it is
always the issue in teen movies.
Heathers starts off with a group of female teen bullies practically running a school.
One of them, Veronica Sawyer, regrets joining the group because of what she is now
involved in. Heather Chandler, the leader, peer pressures Veronica, who is evidently
a great calligraphist, into forging notes to appear to be from other people. She then
uses these notes to make people think someone else wrote them, usually

Disney Learns to Act Local on the Global Stage
The Walt Disney Company, home to Mickey Mouse, Donald Duck, and other iconic
characters, has a stellar reputation in many parts of the world for its family friendly
entertainment offerings. The company s parks and resorts division operates theme
parks in five global locations, including a recent $1.8 billion park in Hong Kong.
Disney s fabled studio entertainment unit has an illustrious history in both animation
and live action features. The Lion King, released in 1994, is the highest grossing
animated film of all time. More recently, Disney has enjoyed massive hits with ...

Disney s other divisions are also pursuing a more localized approach in key
emerging markets. As Jason Reed, general manager for Walt DisneyStudios
International Productions, noted, We ve been very successful with our big global
productions, such as Pirates of the Caribbean and National Treasure. But we think
there s a natural way to supplement these films in areas like China, Russia, and India
areas that have built in film traditions.
For example, in India Disney is abandoning its go it alone policy and partnering
with local companies such as Yash Raj Films. One new Hindi language show,
Dhoom Machaao Dhoom, concerns a girl s quest for identity after living in the
United States; another show, Vicky and Vetal, concerns a boy s friendship with a
300 year old ghost. The new approach is clearly paying off. In 2008, Disney released
Roadside Romeo, its first animated feature developed specifically for India. The
film was box office gold, with the best opening weekend of any Disney feature in
India.
Disney is hoping to appeal to India s family oriented middle class consumers; core
themes include believe in yourself, express yourself, and celebrate your family.
Because the number of cable television subscribers is increasingly rapidly, Disney
launched the Disney Channel and Toon Disney. In addition, the company acquired
Hugama, a children s channel. Disney is also making Indian versions of its hit movie

Public School System Analysis
discusses the reasoningand history behind our public school system in America. In
some ways I agree with him; the public school system is in definite need of
revamping, while educators are in desperate need of anew system to teach our kids.
According to Gatto, the school system in America was meant tocopy the Prussian
schoolsystem. Regardless of whether or not this is true, I think the biggestquestion
should be why we have not done anything to reform the school system? There should
beno reason for graduates to feel as if they have wasted the last fifteen years of their
life with pointless busy work. The creativity that was once praised has been pushed
aside for a curriculumthat is based on establishing fixed habits of reaction to
authority. Rather than praisingindividualism and innovation, Gatto believes our
school system emphasizes the exact opposite, conformity and inanity.... Show more

Education for the Disabled in Brunei Darussalam
A disabled is a person who has had impairment in the past where such impairment
can be of various types of chronic disease, physical, sensory and developmental
disabilities. In recent years, the number of people with disabilities is constantly rising
due to the aging population and global increase in chronic conditions associated with
disability. In 2012 alone, there are about one billion people who are disabled which
accounts for 15% of the world s population. In the same year, there are roughly
about 4148 people who are disabled in Brunei Darussalam that accounts for about
1.06% of Brunei s total population (Rozan Yunos, 2012). Disabled people require
constant assistance in completing basic daily tasks and there are lots of areas where
care for the disabled can be improved in Brunei. Four main areas where the care for
the disabled can be improved are in the field of education, housing and
communication.
Education for the disabled in Brunei Darussalam for the last two decades has been
very poor, the dropout rates for the disabled in Brunei is very high as they tend to
find themselves struggling trying to cope with the education offered to them. This
as a result makes the disabled to fail in their education and eventually makes it
difficult for them to get a proper job. Only in the past few years that certain private
agencies and government sectors started to take action. The disabled have not been
given a proper education services and the opportunities to excel and

The Movie Higher Learning
Higher Learning; Gift and a Curse Higher Learning is a book made into a film
which carries deep social and cultural issues that has plagued America since the
time of its establishment. In this book, the author John Singleton sheds light on the
never ending issues of education, racist, sexual abuse; social class, gender, and
sexual orientation are faced head on. As a collection of freshman college students
from all different walks of life they all come as one at Columbus University having
to clash with stereotypes and prejudice in a new atmosphere. For illustration in the
book, a ordinary white teenager from Idaho has a culture shock at his new school

Remmy s prejudice fell under the scapegoat theory. During the chapter 5, Singleton
illustrates Remmy as a loser who says out of place things at the wrong occasions
When problems occur, people do not like to blame themselves thus actively seek
scapegoats onto whom we can displace our aggression minorities are often used.
Remmy decided to blame everyone else for the mistakes he was making,
distancing him away from school and his peers. What he did was a major act of
terrorism showing no mercy on a fellow human being, gunning them down in broad
daylight. It is time and again we see a pathetic person who has committed a major
crime against humanity often commit suicide to avoid prosecution and disgrace
from his family members, and to avoid the chilling faces of the family of the
victims. Kristen seemed to lack confidence and self awareness; however, after

Time to Work
Division 1 student athletes have a very busy schedule. To be a Division 1 student
athlete you must have great time management skills, determination, and be focused.
For them to be successful in the classroom and in their sport, they have a very tough
decision. They must pick two of the three: social life, academics, or athletics. They
must also realize that they need to make the decision before they make a mistake for
instance, becoming ineligible. Student athletes have many options for help, just as a
average college student does. Student athletes need to have more readily available
resources but also use their time wisely through counseling as freshman.
The Problem
Some people who have never participated in extracurricular activities may ask, What
is so different between a student athlete s day compared to an average college student
s. According to Richard Sherman, a former Stanford University student athlete and
now professional football player, student athletes have mandatory lifting in the
morning, meetings, and practices throughout the day during the season (Richard
Sherman Student Athlete Education 00:01:14 00:01:26). An average college student
doesn t have this time commitment. They may be involved in many organizations but
the organizations don t meet every day, which is a big difference between the two
schedules. A study done by Penn Schoen Berland showed that on average
The Muscular And Nervous Systems Of Our Body
The Muscular and Nervous Systems of our body are two of eight major body
functional systems that help us maintain homeostasis or in a chemical balance within
our bodies. When the body cannot maintain homeostasis there is usually some sort of
sickness or disease that is targeting one of our major body functions. An example of
two diseases that could affect our homeostasis within our Muscular and Nervous
Systemare Hydrocephalus and Dystonia.
The Nervous System is the system of our body that deal with the many nerves in our
body that help us respond and react to things outside of our body that could or could
not be conscious to us. The disease Hydrocephalus is a disease that affects the
Nervous System through the brain. Hydrocephalus is when fluid that normally would
help cushion our brain becomes excessive. This fluid is called cerebrospinal fluid. By
this fluid becoming excessive it puts harmful pressure on the brain. Hydrocephalus
can be categorized into two types. Congenital Hydrocephalus and Acquired
Hydrocephalus. Congenital Hydrocephalus is present at birth. The causes could be
genetic or inherited through the parent s genes or problems during fetus
development. Acquired Hydrocephalus is happens after birth and at any age.
Several causes such as head injuries, strokes, infections, tumors, and bleeding in the
brain are ways that can lead a person s diagnoses of Acquired Hydrocephalus.
Symptoms patients should look for after experiencing one of these causes are:
Constitutionalism in England in the 17th Century
Analyze the development of Constitutionalism in England during the 17th century.
England s lengthy history of hereditary monarchs and abusive absolutists has led to
the system of constitutionalism in 17th century English government. The
encouragement of these absolutism practices triggered the need to search for a new
way to govern. The reigns of the Stuart monarchy led to the shift from absolutism to
constitutionalism during 17th century England. After witnessing the success of Louis
XIV s of France establishment of absolutism, England would soon see that James I,
and his son Charles I, will fail at establishing absolutism in England and see a
constitutional government established. After the death of Elizabeth I, the last of the...

The success of Parliament during the first phase of the English Civil War can be
attributed to Oliver Cromwell s New Model Army. This army consisted of radical
Puritans and Independents, who believed they were fighting for God. Cromwell
was one of the Independents. The first phase of the war was ended with capture of
Charles I. Blinded by his belief in divine right, Charles took advantage Parliament s
troubles and decided to flee to the Scots for protection. The Rump Parliament now
accused the king of treason saying that he had acted as a tyrant, traitor, murder,
and a public enemy to the good people of the nation. Charles was beheaded for his
actions in 1649 and his attempt at absolutism was put an end. This was a great
achievement in the rise of absolutism, as Parliament continued to gain more power
in England with every passing monarchy. After the death of Charles I, his son
Charles II rose to power (during the civil war). The Roundheads, supporters of
Parliament, were victorious by the end of the English Civil War. Oliver Cromwell
became Lord Protector of England and held all executive power; legislative power
was given to Parliament. Cromwell came to find that it was difficult to work with
Parliament, even more so when members debated his authority. Six years after the
death of Charles I, who Cromwell fought so hard to eliminate, Cromwell himself had
done the exact same thing as Charles; demolish Parliament.
The Inconvenience Of Hastings Entertainment

The Inconvenience of Hastings Entertainment Throughout our entire lives we are
taught structure. Structure that repeats itself. Each night we set our alarms to the
same time previous. We awake robotically, work, interact with the same faces, and
then return to our homes to trace the process. So where do we rely on our
imagination to come from? The vast majority of us cut it out of our cycle and
replace it with a television. Some of us, however, still pick up a book. To fantasize
about things that don t actually exist, to escape from reality for just a speck of
time. I am of few in this internet driven society that still read. Which for me
involves going to a bookstore to look for a good book. Nowadays there are few
bookstore opportunities. Due to Amazon and Kindle making it easier to press a few
buttons than to drive somewhere to find it. The only two bookstore chains I know of
in the Spokane area are Barns Noble and Hastings Entertainment. I usually go to
Hastings on 29th street, because it s only about ten blocks from my house. However I
have begun to realize that Hastings Entertainment is an inconvenient bookstore for its
customers because there is an unreliable computer system, not enough employees to
help assist a customer and the store is always re arranged. There is an outdated
computer system for books to be located throughout the store. The computer system
Hastings has makes it very difficult to search for a book, and

Summary Of Walking And The Suburbanized Psyche
In Walking and the Suburbanized Psyche, the author, Rebecca Solnit, argues that the
development of suburbanization has been the primary problem as to why our modern
society continues to devalue the significance and impact of walking. Suburbanization
hasn t only changed the way we travel from one place to another, but it has also
changed the way we communicate amongst each other and with ourselves. Walkingis
looked down upon and has been seen as a symbol of low status. This has led
people to exterminate the use of walking in their daily lives. However, even if
someone would like to walk to their destination they can t due to the fact that
places are shaping their roads to accommodate to the excess use of cars. I agree
with Solnit that walking has a positive impact towards our bodies, our world, and
our imagination. The wide use of transportation contributes to how society is
increasingly turning away from walking. Since, the majority of people drive either
their own cars or a form of public transportation regularly they have lost the sense
of distance. People may never even know that the daily commute they may take to
work is faster to walk to then it is to wait in traffic for. For example, recently my
roommate invited me along so she should get a tattoo at a parlor in our hometown.
We had to take a bus to get near to the location because it is a bit far away from
UCR, but once we got off at a bus stop instead of walking the short distance that
would take about 15 minutes we decided to call an Uber. We both haven t been in
our hometown in a while, so instead of enjoying it we decided to take a car. At my
high school, students were allowed to drive themselves to the campus beginning
junior year. I never got my license during high school, so I would either be picked
up by one of my parents or a friend who drove to themselves to school would.
However, whenever one of my parents would pick me up they would refuse to pick
me up directly in front of the school because of the ridiculous amount of traffic.
They had me walk a little over half a mile each day after school to the exact same
spot. Even though, half a mile wasn t a long walk I realized a difference between
taking that small walk and being driven home by

said Gatsby as he pulls out his gun. You will not lose but before she finished her

Personal Aspects Of My Personal Beliefs In Life
(3) My main beliefs in life is that life is an incredible gift, serve/put others first
whenever possible, be generous, and most importantly, be faithful and trust God
through all the ups and downs. These beliefs become embodied in the way I live
because when I am put in situations where I have to choose on sticking to my
beliefs or compromising it, I usually decide to stand firm on my beliefs. Serving
/putting others first whenever possible is a very humbling experience and also a
belief I truly cherish because it shifts the focus from I to others, allowing me to
appreciate and remember how blessed I am. Many view me as having a lack of self
worth because some view it as though I am trying to please others in order to make
myself feel better, however, I view it as stated in Colossians 3:23, Work willingly
at whatever you do, as though you were working for the Lord rather than for
people. In everything I do, I view it as I am doing it for God rather than for that
individual because I am grateful that I am able to have the energy and strength to
help others out. Generosity is another belief of mine in which it becomes embodied
in the way I live because I m blessed having to grow up without lacking anything.
Whenever I wanted something, I could head over to the store and purchase that item
without having to worry about money being an issue. As I grew up, I noticed that
not everyone has that kind of luxury in their life, I ve known many people in my
middle and high school
The General Function Of A Female Slave
A slave was then basically anyone who was not white, but color was forced to have
a master in which all of the commands that came out of their mouths definitely
would have to be done by a slave. Many times they were treated badly and none of
the slaves had a say in anything that they would do. Slaves had no rights at all and
they were considered basically nothing or a piece of property; a property in which
masters could share and buy slaves for themselves. White people who could afford
to buy a slave would. Slaves were mainly used for manual labor. The general
function of a female slave was mainly to do chores, while men, on the other hand
grew crops and worked in many other different things that involved a men s job .
As a young girl who became a slave Biddy Mason can certainly relate to the
definition of slave. At a young age for a long time Biddy was considered as a
Black slave woman who was illiterate. In other words she could not read or write.
She worked as a nurse and a midwife and traveled from Mississippi to California to
be able to become a successful businesswoman and a generous contributor to social
causes. Bridgett Biddy Mason was born a slave, August 15, 1818. No one knows
the location in which she was born in, but many people predict that she was born in
Georgia, while others predict more likely she may have been born in Mississippi.
Biddy was given the name Bridget without a last name. Since Bitty was a slave at the
time she was given to Robert
How School Is An Environment That Has Great Powers
One looks back with appreciation to the brilliant teachers, but with gratitude to those
who touched our human feelings. The curriculum is so much necessary raw material,
but warmth is the vital element for the growing plant and for the soul of the child.
Carl Jung
Strolling down memory lane, back to school experiences as a child, many different
memories come flooding back; some positive ones, and some not as enjoyable.
School is an environment that has great powers. It has the power to influence and
shape us, no matter what grade level. Teachers need to realize the great responsibility
they carry, for without them even knowing, they can make everlasting marks and
impressions on their students, both positively and negatively, forever.
Throughout my years in school, I can definitely pick and choose the methods, traits,
and behaviors, that I would like to practice and emulate. Unfortunately though, I also
learned the hard way, the traits and behaviors that I forever want to avoid and forget!
Beginning with my ECE years, there are a few things that I remember very clearly.
Firstly, which I find very important, my teachers used songs with whatever they
were teaching. Music is the language of the soul is not a famous saying for nothing.
Kids learn best through song, as opposed to just listening to teachers talk. This is true
for all grades, not only Nursery. The fact that I still remember songs from

The text is brief, however; its very essence is considerable important. Clement
(c.150 c.215) succinctly y sets out the fundamental principle that there are four
senses (or meanings) of Scriptures. Clement call these senses Quadriga , which
indicates, the literal sense of Scripture and three nonliteral senses, in the following
form: (1) the literal sense (2) the allegorical sense, which conveys something to be
believed (3) the moral (or tropological) sense, which conveys something which is to
be done (4) The anagogical sense, which conveys something which is to be hoped
for. Origen on the Three Ways of Reading Scripture describes the imagery meaning
of the body, soul, and spirit. Origen states just as human being consist of body, soul,
and spirit, so also does the Scriptures, which is the gift of God designed for human
salvation. Martin Luther on the Fourfold Sense of Scripture is parallel to Clement s

A Brief Note On Occupational Safety And Health
Occupational Safety and Health refers to the concerns of safety and health of
people occupied in employment or work services. Over the years the safety
precautions have changed quite a bit and now we are more precautious to people s
safety while they work, even though we could always improve more.
Worker deaths in America are down on average , from about 38 worker deaths a day
in 1970 to 12 a day in 2012, injuries and illnesses are down from 10.9 incidents per
100 workers in 1972 to 3.4 per 100 in 2011 (Commonly Used Statistics).
With that being said it is clearly shown how we have improved a lot from the 1970 s
to 2012. In this paper I will address three individuals work experiences, ranging from
ages 19 to 80. All of our work experiences are fairly different from each other. The
first individual, Felicita, who is 80 years of age, has worked in multiple factories
during her lifetime. The first factory she worked in was in 1952 when she was only
19 years of age and first came to America. She worked in a factory making belts and
was paid about seventy five cents an hour. Another factory she worked in shortly after
the previous one, she was making purses for about one dollar an hour. Upon talking
to my grandmother, Felicita, she stated that the hazards she faced in these factories
were machine hazards, factory fires, hazards from dust, and pollution. The machine
hazards included cutting tools with no guards, lifting heavy items on the machine
with no support, loud noises

2. Stakeholder analysis The challenge is to take the viewpoints and actions of these
specific groups into account. The objectives and interests of the people, social
groups or institutions participating in or affected by the project should always be
included in planning, through a stakeholder analysis. This step is generally done
during the planning workshop, after a thorough analysis of the situation in the field.
The objectives of the stakeholder analysis are: to list and characterise the major
stakeholders to understand their present and potential roles and responsibilities to
understand their interests, fears, problems and potentials to draw conclusions for
the planning of the project. List of main stakeholders 1 This step is a simple
collection of names of relevant groups. There are often a large number of
stakeholders involved. It is therefore highly recommended to cluster stakeholders into
homogeneous groups with similar characteristics, problems and interests. On the
other hand, great care should be taken not to lump different groups together. Even
conservation groups for example may not be sufficiently differentiated category
each conservation organisation within such a grouping may well have its own
particular perspective on an issue. Always refer back to the project idea to check
whether a group is really a major stakeholder or not. This will often become an
iterative process

The separate sub plots are interwoven in such a way it keeps you turning pages, not
just out of interest, but because you are still trying to make out how one thing links
to the next.
Most of the characters were perfect. Perfect because they were flawed which made
them seem so real that you could almost relate to them as one of your friends.
Though it may seem a little clicheМЃ,I particularly enjoyed Alex. He is a genuine
man who battles with the conflict between work and family. How he sympathises
with victims families is a true reflection of his character and style.
I found the bad guys of the book to be well thought out. It was a real challenge to
comprehend their motives or their behavioural manner; this is one of the
characteristics that made them seem real.
My only complaint is, even though I praise the plot very highly, at times it is too
difficult to understand what is going on, and this forced me to put the book down
to clear my head. I am not an avid reader, so this annoyed me a little. The fact that I
could not continue with the book because too many things were happening at once
was frustrating and made me want to stop reading. But with reading on the sub plots
in the book gelled together and I was able to understand what was going on. It was

Analysis Of Tom Hanks s The New York Times Essay
In the New York Times article I Owe It All to Community College: Tom Hanks on
His Two Years at Chabot College published January 2015, the author Tom Hanks
talks about his experience in Community College. The article being published in the
New York Times was directed at an older group of people. Hanks begins the article
effectively persuading the reader that Community Collegechanges the lives of the
students who attend. Hanks addressed his experience at a two year junior college in
Hayward, California with positive critique. Hanks succeeds with his claims of
community college being a alternative to students in search of a afforable higher
education, through his use of ethos, pathos, and logos.
Readers naturally respond to credible authors when reading articles,
autobiographies or novels; it is an channel for audiences to connect to their
narrators. When famous actor and director Tom Hanks writes an article for New
York Times , it will not be disregarded and will grip the attention of readers instantly
due to his credibility. By Tom Hanks fame for his award winning movies and roles,
his pieces of writings will be publicized and noticed by the public, demonstrating a
key concept of ethos; appealing to credibility. Hanks article will be listened and
analyzed deeply because of his status, especially since he was a student who
attended a junior college for his first two years of higher education. Hanks states, I
couldn t afford tuition for college anyway. I sent my final
Tyranny Dbq Essay
The essence of government is power; and power, lodged as it must be in human
hands, will ever be liable to abuse spoken by James Madison, this quote states that
the government is power, but this power is always exposed to abuse. In May of 1787,
fifty five delegates met in Philadelphia to gather at a Constitutional Convention to
find a solution to fix the existing Constitution; the Articles of Confederation. Under
the Articles, there was a weak central governmentthat didn t have the ability to hold
together a nation, and was prone to tyranny. Tyranny is the absolute power in the
hands of one individual or small group. The delegates decided to create a new
Constitution that guarded against tyranny by implementing the following; the federal

Urban Education Reform
There are various reasons people continue to move from urban areas to the suburbs.
These reasons include the fact that rural areas have better education, lower crime
rates, better infrastructure, and inequality in the public services offered. Also, with
the recent rise the population growth, cities have become more crowded and continue
to grow beyond capacity, which contributes to people relocating to less population
dense rural areas, such as the suburbs.
In regards to increasing the appeal of urban living, there are certain steps local
government can take to do so. One area of concern that needs to be addressed to
increase the appeal of urban living is education reform. When compared, public
schools in urban areas perform on a much lower
How Storytelling Has A Positive Impact On Children
Abstract Many researchers believe that storytelling has a positive impact on
children in terms of their oral language development and fluency. According to
(Genishi Dyson, 2015) story telling engages both sides of the child s brain thereby
allowing them to create a context where certain words be placed during
conversation or any form of communication. Stories make children imagine
therefore creating motion pictures in their brains and as such the children can copy
and say the same words on their own while playing or imitating the story characters.
Stories develops the inner world of imagination and creative thinking. Children tap
into their imaginative minds and provide their own imagery. As such children can
easily create meanings of unknown words. Just like storytelling, read aloud
sessions have also been shown to boost children vocabulary and correct
pronunciation, thus improving their oral skills. Children aged between three to five
years have a higher concentration and listening skills, so stories considered to be a
great tool to promote their phonetic knowledge and to hone their presentation skills.
Children have to remember key points of the plot and character names. This is an
excellent exercise to enhance memorization skills and it also may help guide
children in their oral language. (Zipes, 2013) Mahew P. Gallets and Kim (1999, p.
182) stated that storytelling today is increasingly recognized as having important

Classroom Observation Report
General Observation: As I entered into the science room, the students were being
given a science dipstick labeled Interdependent Relationships in Ecosystems . This
dipstick sums up the unit that the students have been working on where they created
their ecosystem posters and determined which animals belong in each ecosystem. The
teacher explained to the students that she calls these dipsticks instead of tests because
these documents are more focused on seeing what they took away from the unit. She
then read the pages of the dipstick so that they students could pay more attention to
the science than the reading. During this time the teacher explained some background
information about the students overall unit and what is needed to be taught
according to the science curriculum. While I was watching as the students were
taking their dipstick I was able to see that some of them were able to determine the
soil conditions, the climate, and explain why certain animals could or could not live
in Vermont. Others focused only on the animals that could survive. A few students
were able to explain why those animals belonged or didn t belong in Vermont. As
students were finishing up, they were allowed to quietly read books or look at
different science materials throughout the room. The teacher was even allowing them
to experiment and work with the materials that were accessible to them. As we
arrived back at the classroom, the students transitioned into their match
Advantages And Disadvantages Of Fibre Composites And...
CHAPTER 1
INTRODUCTION
Composite materials are the engineering materials made from two or more
constituent materials they remain separate and distinct on a macroscopic level but
forming a single component or Composites can defined as materials that consist of
two more chemically and physically different phases separated by a distinct
interface(matrix phase and dispersed phase). The different systems are combined
judiciously to achieve a component with more and more useful structural or
functional properties non attainable by any of the constituent alone. Matrix phase is
the primary phase having a continuous character. Matrix is usually more ductile and
less hard phase. It holds the dispersed phase and shares a load with it. Dispersed

The combined challenge thus consists in developing effective and environmentally
friendly flame retardant systems for polymer materials. The development of flame
retardant materials and understanding the phenomena that take place during
combustion often require close collaboration between several fields of scientific
expertise (macromolecular and physical chemistry, physics of mass and heat transfer,
rheology, etc.). Fire retardants are combined with polymer resins to reduce their
flammability, decrease production of volatiles and inhibit
The Theories of Freud and Jung
1. Freud s essay on The Sexual Aberrations posits the existence of a sexual urge,
called libido , which Freud finds analogous to hunger. Freud suggests that, like
hunger, the libido manifests itself more or less from birth. The chief question for
Freud in this paper is why libido should manifest itself in unexpected ways as with
inversion , which is the slightly old fashioned term that Freud uses for
homosexuality. Freud rather unexpectedly relies on the suggestion that mucus
membranes in general are susceptible to sexual stimulation in his opinion, this
accounts for such varied phenomena as kissing, thumbsucking, and anal sex.
Freud then goes on to explain foot fetishism and other sexual fascination with
inanimate objects in terms of primitive religion: This substitution is not unjustly
compared with the fetich in which the savage sees the embodiment of his god.
(Freud 1910). Freud goes on to explain other aberrations, such as Sado Masochism,
in terms of their attempt to cope with an overvaluation of the sexual object. The
idealistic impulses of love are seen, by Freud, as perhaps even more evident in
people who love whips or feet. Ultimately Freud brings it back to the nature of the
hypothesized infantile sexuality in Freud s belief, this has no natural object and is
expressed in all directions at once. By contemporary scientific standards, Freud s
essay is a mess. To take the most obvious example, Freud died in 1939: this is the
same year that the Nobel Prize in

ability of an apparatus, machine, or system to consistently perform its intended or
required function , on demand and without degradation or failure. This paper
proposes to increase the reliability of RAID level 5 arrays used for storing archival
data. Here, group of two or three identical RAID arrays are considered at the initial
stage. Next, a shared parity disk is added to each group containing diagonal parities
of their arrays. Now, the new organization can tolerate all double disk failures and
between 75 and 89 percent of triple disk failures without incurring any data loss.
Two techniques can be used for increasing reliability such as Even Odd scheme and
Row Diagonal Parity (RDP) scheme. This paper gives a study on Even Odd
scheme and Row Diagonal Parity (RDP) scheme for increasing reliability and also
proposes a new sparing technique, double parity sparing. Hence forth the proposed
scheme provides better reliability as compared to the existing.

invest in. Specific objectives include analysis of annual reports of Woolworths and its
competitors (Wesfarmers) as well as interpretation of relevant government and
industry statistics, stock exchange, market information and media comments. Further,
Woolworths s financial strengths and weaknesses are identified. The potential growth
prospects for Woolworths, the future of the food and staples retailing industry, and

Although the aim of this report is to be as detailed and comprehensive as possible,
there are still some limitations exist. First of all, any estimates or projections of future
economic performance are impacted by numerous factors, such as market behavior,
that are inherently uncertain. Therefore future outcome may not unfold as expected.
Further, events may have occurred since I prepared this report which may impact on
it and its findings. Moreover, Woolworths and Wesfarmers have some differences in
accounting policies. For instance, Wesfarmers values inventories at the lower of cost
and net realisable value. Woolworths values short life retail stocks in the same way,
but for long life retail stocks, the retail inventory method are used to determine cost
by reducing the value of the inventory by the appropriate gross margin percentage
which takes into account markdown prices. Different method of recording and
valuation may influence the final financial results. Conclusion Having examined
Woolworths Ltd financial performance through analyses and comparisons we come
to conclusion that Woolworths has a number of financial strengths as well as several
weaknesses. Strengths Strong and trusted brand name High product quality and
safety (persistent implementation of Fresh Food People strategy) Very efficient
management (efficient at using assets to generate sales, collecting money
The Epic, Gilphash, And The Epic Of Gilgamesh
In the realm of a mythic story, a myth can possess the ability to reshape a world,
because its stories do not have limitations (Paden 79). Within William Padens
argument about myths, he discusses the benefits of believing in a mythic story,
because mythic stories can build the world (Paden 84). With the help of the epic of
Gilgamesh, this myth will help to create a connection between the statement by
William Paden, and the character of Gilgamesh. By creating a connection between
these two texts, the theory of love, unavoidable fate of death, and the imbalance of
power are the reoccurring themes and theories that are the building blocks to the
statement by William Paden.
By connecting the epic of Gilgamesh to how it can build a world, there is a certain
theme and theory that can be connected. In the epic of Gilgamesh, the love that
Gilgamesh had for Enkidu is the motivating factor that helps Gilgamesh become a
noble king. By 2100 BCE, Gilgamesh was the king of Uruk, but had terrorized his
people and couldn t tame his energy (Dalley 51). When the people of Uruk had
asked the gods to get Gilgamesh a rival, Enkidu was born (Dalley 53). After
Gilgamesh and Enkidu had countless stalemated battles and became best friends, the
love that Gilgamesh had for Enkidu during and after his death had caused Gilgamesh
to become a civilized and moral human being (Dalley 61). Within the constructs of
building a better world, Enkidu can be paralleled to a female parent that helps their
Rhetorical Analysis Why We Can T Wait

and attitudes. Many were living in poverty or low income communities, with either
no education or very limited education. This certain community during this time
period was neglected, rejected, and disrespected by the American society. In Martin

like parallelism, repetition, imagery, and rhetorical questions in order to seek social
change in the United States.

his passage is to evoke emotions like empathy, from his audience. It allows his
audience to be able to establish a connection with the images he portrays, and for the
audience too also be able to understand how desperately social change is needed in
the United States. Another example of imagery would be where he states, black people
, brought to this land in slave ships and in chain, had drained the swamps, built the
homes... to lift this nation from colonial obscurity to commanding influence... . He
uses imagery to put the audience into the Black community s hoes, so that they are
able to comprehend that the way Americans are treating them is not right and needs
to be changed because they also made the nation great. He is further persuading his

My View Of Life After Death
Growing up with a very devout, spiritual parent, I was taught from very early on
that God was all knowing. I was also taught that humans have the freedom to make
their own choices about their lives and that is what determines whether one will
ascend to Heaven or descend into Hell. Whether someone choses to accept Christ
as their Lord and Savior is what will determine your life after death. I accepted this
as truth for a very long time, as I had no exposure to different views. I would argue
with my LDS peers on the meaning of Heaven and Hell and their nonbelief, and I
would trust everything I was taught without much question. In college, things
changed. I still believe in God, but differently. I have struggled with my own beliefs
for a while now, because everything I have known is being, or has been challenged
by discussions in my classes. I cannot imagine a life without my relationship with
God, but I also have a lot of questions, that my mother would balk at. In this paper I
aim to answer these questions, after critically explaining and analyzing Augustine s
views on free will. The main focus of the paper will be my own beliefs and my own
conclusions, and thoughts on how humans can be both predetermined and have
free will. I aim to show my understanding on Augustine and also provide a clear and
concise explanation of how and why I believe the way I do. The God of the
Christian bible is said to be omniscient, or all knowing, and if one is taught this from
a young age,

Impact of the Asian Financial Crisis in 1997 and effect to Latin America

Abstract
In 1997, the Asian Financial Crisis spread rapidly all over the Asia and affected
almost all the economies in the world. Prior to the Asian Financial Crisis, the Asian
countries such as Thailand, Malaysia, South Korea, Indonesia, Hong Kong and
Singapore experienced a remarkable growth in the economy that was considered
the highest in the world. These Asian economies increased by a notable proportion
of 6 to 10 percent annually in the GDP. However, what had been regarded as an
Asian miracle seemed to crumple down rapidly 1997 when these Asian countries
were faced with a severe financial crisis in their local stock and currency ... Show

Regardless of the negotiations for support grant from the IMF and the United States
Treasury, the monetary drainage persisted and Brazil was forced to devalue its
currency. As a result, the Brazilian government authorized the real to float, while it
abandoned linking its currency to the U.S. dollar. The financial crisis in Brazil spread
out rapidly to other nations in Latin America and as a result several billions of dollars
were drained from these countries and this hindered the trade exchange with the
United States. As a result, the nations in the Latin America experienced one of the
nastiest economic recession that was mainly fuelled by the Asian financial crisis. The
effect of the financial disaster was predominantly severe in the Latin America s small
economies, for instance Bolivia, Uruguay, Ecuador, Chile and, Argentina and
Colombia (Hunter, 1999).
Petti (2001) argues that financial shocks can move rapidly throughout the nations
within similar regions as it was revealed by the Mexican peso disaster that occurred
in the year 1994. Similarly, the financial crisis that affected the Asian countries
proved to be a regional financial crisis and it threatened geographically distant vibrant
economies mostly in the Latin America. The Latin America countries began
experiencing the effects of the Asian financial crisis in 1997
The Psychological Motivation For Serial Killers
I don t feel guilty for anything. I feel sorry for people who feel guilt, Ted Bundy.
Throughout the world a specific group of individuals such as Bundy, are classified
as serial killers. According to the Britannica Encyclopedia the term serial killer or
the act of serial killing can be defined as the unlawful homicide of at least two
people, carried out in a series over a period of time. Every year such murderers
create chaos in hundreds and thousands of people s lives through their dark
motives and monstrous actions. Society often searches for reasons why such
killings take place, but the majority fail to investigate past the surface of the
murders. The psychological motivation for serial killers stems deeper to
predisposed state of minds as well as several shared traits and histories.
Psychological commonalities among the serial killers such as the biological
makeup of their brain as well as similar family situations help people understand the
actions that serial killers make. Individuals classified as serial killers are known to
have abnormal psychological states of mind that cause them to violently cause chaos
in thousands of lives every year. Among these murderers many share psychological
commonalities that stem from various aspects in their lives that drive them to such
disturbing actions. The act of serial killing has occurred throughout history all around
the world. Some of the first ever documented cases included a Roman woman named

Incarceration And Forensic Analysis
Over the past several years forensic science has included both negative and positive
aspects in the incarceration of individuals. Testing of blood types commonly used
with sexual assault cases, in the 1980s, with using blood types A, B and O
frequencies were distributed and a database was created. Although the database
could administer a percentage of individuals with common blood types it was
unable to differentiate specific people. DNA testing became more prominent in 1989
and defendants that were once found guilty were being exonerated. Gary Dotson was
the first to be incarcerated in 1979 due to serology evidence collected blood typing
was conducted. After several years, of false imprisonment, further testing was done

Defining The Broad Scope of Artist
What is art? As I continue to develop my skills and contemplate their purpose, my
initial analysis has not only shifted, but expanded in complexity. Acquired through
our growth into modernism, art has manifested a certain dependence on theoretical
discourse. German Philosopher Arnold Gehlen proposes that art s need for
explanation is derived from its difficulty or otherwise inaccessibility to the public;
implying that although art is always human, human is not always artist. The
exclusivity of the art world supports this notion as it is categorized and defined by a
hierarchal pattern of thought development: from initial Spectator, to Theorist, to
Artist in a sense, paralleling the core pattern of the human condition and artistic...

perspectives are as helpful to the audience as they are irritating to the artist. Theories,
by definition are limiting. Once a piece of art is contextualized under the intellectual
bias of an established thinker, there is a tendency for further interpretation to become
obsolete. It is my belief that in regards to Art theories are counterproductive to their
goal. They disseminate a bias that sabotages the individual experience rather than
enhancing it. For the artist of 2014, however, the formulation of a personal theory or
understanding is becoming more vital than ever. Referencing earlier times as
exemplified throughout Classicism, Neo classicism, Romanticism etc. artistry

The United States Election System Operates Under A...
The United States election system operates under a political context. Every policy
that shapes the economic outcome of a people has the effect of being politically
manipulated. Through out this passage I will introduce you to the cause and effects
of the way our election system is set up. American elections are design to provide
democracy to the people. However, this democracy is often questioned by the
counter attacks that is brought forth by certain elements that at times seems to be
self created. Political theories suggest that elections are inspired by the need of one
to control and manage resources. This plays heavily on the perception of the public
as the essential need of survival is predicated on the performance of political... Show

It is nothing more then conflict! Conflict which is the reflection of people s
attitudes or difference in relation to several of issues is the foundation for which
elections are based on. It is also the component that is used to lend elections the
validity to be a workable force. Representation serves at the forefront of the political
process but it has been a much debate around what determines how people get what
they want. Take president Barack Obamafor an example; the parity ratio just had a
massive shift in the house and to some extent in the senate, because many people
felt their needs wasn t being met. But when he ran for re election he won by an
overwhelmingly majority. So how does one who is engaged in the process explain
the huge disparity in the trend? It s very simple. First remember what I said about
the concept of power and those who seek it, they get power by causing a change in
public opinion. The operation of the political structure is fixed to flow according
to the swings of certain dimensions of politics. Those dimensions are conflict and
compromise. Compromise is a concept that we must become familiar with because
it dictates the method of efficiency. And efficiency is the outlay of how a political
system should function. When you don t have efficiency you have grid lock. Grid
lock is a major ramification of a political system that have at the very lest failed its
base as well as its people across parity lines. It reflects a
The Setting of Paul s Case Essay
The setting of the short story Paul s Case is clear and appropriate for the story. This
is because Paul s feelings in the story happen to have a direct connection to the
setting of the story. The East Coast of the United States is where the story takes
place. From Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, to Newark, New Jersey, and then on to New
York, New York, the exact setting differs throughout the story. ...the dull dawn was
beginning to show grey when the engine whistled a mile out of Newark (Cather). At
this point in the story, the main character, Paul, is on board a train which has
departed from his hometown of Pittsburgh en route to the Jersey City Station. From
there, he plans to make his way to the glamorous New York City, a city... Show more

During this time, Paul contemplates a plan to ask his father for a cab fare. He will
tell his father that the money is to make it over to his friend s house, when he is
really planning on making his way to New York City. This escape to New York
City is a way out of his life that he is struggling to get through. The east bound train
was ploughing through a January snowstorm... (Cather). Now, aboard a train to
New Jersey, Paul is longing for the beauty of New York. After the train stops in
Newark, Paul hopes to spend a night or two in town and then get on board another
train that will take him to New York. The time part of the setting impacts the story
greatly, since the story is based in the winter. Winter represents the end of things in
literature and it is in this winter, that Paul goes on to commit suicide. The
atmosphere of the story is a cold, stormy, and dead state. Paul is lost in himself
during the storms of winter. He is like the train that has to plow its way through the
January snowstorm. ...the nerve stuff of all sensations was whirling about him like
the snow flakes (Cather). Everything about the story is whirling and blowing as the
wind does, including the snowstorm he sees while on the train. These cold storms
are the base of the atmosphere in which Paul struggles to find himself. Towards the
end, Paul witnesses many examples of death and darkness. The snow lay heavy on
the roadways and had
The Ethics Of The Clinical Trials
In recent years, the number of clinical trials increased significantly. With an
increasing number of clinical trials, the ethical issues related to clinical trials have
also increased. Furthermore, the ethics of the clinical trials were violated on several
occasions in last few decades. Nazi experiments with World War II initiated the world
leaders to implement a code of conduct that protects the autonomy of the clinical trial
subjects. Therefore, the Nuremberg Code was initiated in the year of 1949.
However, this Code failed to protect the human subjects in clinical trials. Tuskegee
syphilis trial was one of the few incidents that were exposed in front of the entire
country. The regulatory agencies and the government then realized that there should
be better regulations to protect the human subjects in the clinical trials. A series of
codes and regulations were established to protect the subjects in the clinical trial
after the Tuskegee incident. The Belmont report (1979), International Conference on
Harmonization guideline for Good Clinical Practice (1996), the Declaration of
Helsinki (2000), and CIOMS International Ethical Guidelines for Biomedical
Research Involving Human Subjects (2002) are the main guidelines in recent years.
There are also federal regulations to protect human subjects in the clinical trials.
They are USCFR Title21 Part 50, 56 (Protection of Human Subjects and Institutional
Review Boards, 1991), and USCFR Title 46 (The Common Rule, 1981). These federal

refers to himself as a clockwork orange because he believes he is only a clockwork

Man is defined by his actions, and Alex cannot decide his own actions so he ceases
to be a man. A man that cannot choose is actions is the same as a man that does

Alex is released from prison and becomes a victim of the people he once

Synthetic Biology Therapies And Treatment Of Infectious...
To begin, synbio technology is becoming a necessity in the biomedicine and
pharmaceutical industry. Synthetic biology therapies has been developed for the
treatment of infectious diseases and cancer, as well as approaches in vaccine
development (Ruder et al., 2011). As Ruder et al. (2011) have discovered, effective
synthetic biologytherapies can been rationally designed and constructed to alter
mechanisms underlying disease and related biological processes. In the process of
developing synthetic biologyfor prevention of infection, bacteriophages have been
manipulated to attack bacterial strains by disrupting antibiotic defense mechanisms.
The development of these synthetic biology therapies is essential in preventing
widespread of diseases which may be unstoppable using other means. In the case of
cancer treatment, synthetic biology plays an even more important role. Despite the
success of modern cancer therapies, the major therapeutic interventions surgery,
radiation and chemotherapy still causes considerable damage to healthy tissues in
cancer patients. In this aspect, synthetic biology is no longer merely an alternative,
but more of a necessity as we need new cancer treatments that precisely distinguish
between diseases and healthy cells (Ruder et al., 2011). With synthetic biology,
synbiologists are able to engineer bacteria to target and invade only cancer cells,
programming the invasion to occur only in specific vivo conditions, as well as
engineering bacteria

Similarities Differences Between the Trans Saharan and Silk Road Trade Routes
During the time period 600 C.E. to 1450 C.E., trade networks were relied upon to
transfer goods, ideas, and services. Both the Trans Saharan and Silk Road trade
routes depended on animals, luxury goods, and economic growth. However, the trade
routes differed in animals, types of luxury goods, and success of economic growth.
Animals caused a noticeable increase in the use of trade routes. In the same way, both
trade routes used animals as a link to international relations and transportation. For
instance, Trans Saharan animals opened up the chance for Berber traders to increase
contact with Muslims, connecting West Africa with the rest of the Muslim believers.
At the same time, the Silk Road animals allowed Southeast Asia to perfect cavalry
warfare. However, each trade route had access to different animals. The ... Show more

Similarly both trade routes had access to salt. Nevertheless, the Trans Saharan trade
route also was able to obtain gold, ivory, metal ware, textiles, pepper, dates, beads,
and leather. Consequently the quantity of goods led to an increase in wealth for
Ghana. The Trans Saharan trade route was able to exchange their luxury goods for
pottery, glassware, and textiles from Persia, India, and China. Additionally during the
900 s the kings converted to Islam causing wealthy merchants to also convert. On
the other hand, overland trade on the Silk Road produced silk, spices, and precious
stones. Meanwhile sea lanes on the Silk Road were capable of carrying bulkier items
such as steel, stone, coral, and building materials. Because China was the only
country that had cultivators and weavers with an outstanding knowledge of
developing techniques, they were able to produce high quality silk fabrics in classical
Analysis Of The Book St. Lucy s Home For Girls Raised...
Kanye West said it best, Everybody knows I m a M*f**ing monster and honestly, as
humans we are.
In Seven Monster Theses, Jeffery Cohen develops an idea that monsters are essential
to society. In fact, they construct what is normal , rational , and civilized .
Specifically, monsters are foundational to how we view ourselves. Monsters contain
all the traits deemed unacceptable and odd. It can be concluded that every outlier is a
monster . In St. Lucy s Home for Girls Raised by Wolves, Karen Russell tells the
story of a pack of wolf girls who are transitioning into young ladies. Russell delves
into society s need for conformity, gender roles, and change. The story is told from
the point of view of the middle wolf girl, Claudette, and follows her on her journey
from wolf to woman. In relation to Jeffery Cohen s idea of monster culture,
Claudette s journey applies to Thesis IV The Monster Dwells at the Gates of
Difference and part of Thesis I The Monster s Body is a Cultural Body . Claudette is
torn between two worlds and she has to learn how to successfully move between the
two cultures . Through Cohen s theses, Karen Russell uses character development
and dialogue to depict the inner and outer battle of societal femininity and
individualized femininity and the consequence of accepting either side. The presence
of monsters are essential for this acceptance.
To build the gate of difference , Russell makes Claudette resistant to the culture
change. This

  • 2. Peer Pressure In Teenage Movies Bullying and peer pressure are issues that most every student in school has to deal with. Because this is such a pertinent issue, movies are made based on these problems. This is the teen genre. Movies from this genre are from a teenagers point of view so they can relate to them. Heathers is a dark teen movie where the bullies are killed off in an attempt to clean out the school. Peer pressure and bullyingare a necessary part of the teen genre because of how big a part it takes in teen society. Almost every film genre is based around groups of people who exist in real life. People who are ten through nineteen make up over one tenth of the earth s population. This creates a demand for films based upon the issues and hardships they go through. Just like how adults can relate to movies about people barely making enough money to pay bills or working in a boring office. Who else would be the antagonist in a teen movie except for bullies or those who peer pressure kids? These seem to be the biggest problems teenagers face and that is why it is always the issue in teen movies. Heathers starts off with a group of female teen bullies practically running a school. One of them, Veronica Sawyer, regrets joining the group because of what she is now involved in. Heather Chandler, the leader, peer pressures Veronica, who is evidently a great calligraphist, into forging notes to appear to be from other people. She then uses these notes to make people think someone else wrote them, usually

The company s parks and resorts division operates theme parks in five global locations, including a recent $1.8 billion park in Hong Kong. As Jason Reed, general manager for Walt DisneyStudios International Productions, noted, We ve been very successful with our big global productions, such as Pirates of the Caribbean and National Treasure. But we think there s a natural way to supplement these films in areas like China, Russia, and India areas that have built in film traditions. For example, in India Disney is abandoning its go it alone policy and partnering with local companies such as Yash Raj Films. One new Hindi language show, Dhoom Machaao Dhoom, concerns a girl s quest for identity after living in the United States; another show, Vicky and Vetal, concerns a boy s friendship with a 300 year old ghost. The new approach is clearly paying off. In 2008, Disney released Roadside Romeo, its first animated feature developed specifically for India. The film was box office gold, with the best opening weekend of any Disney feature in India. Disney is hoping to appeal to India s family oriented middle class consumers; core themes include believe in yourself, express yourself, and celebrate your family. Because the number of cable television subscribers is increasingly rapidly, Disney launched the Disney Channel and Toon Disney. In addition, the company acquired Hugama, a children s channel. Disney is also making Indian versions of its hit movie High

In some ways I agree with him; the public school system is in definite need of revamping, while educators are in desperate need of anew system to teach our kids. According to Gatto, the school system in America was meant tocopy the Prussian schoolsystem. Regardless of whether or not this is true, I think the biggestquestion should be why we have not done anything to reform the school system? There should beno reason for graduates to feel as if they have wasted the last fifteen years of their life with pointless busy work. The creativity that was once praised has been pushed aside for a curriculumthat is based on establishing fixed habits of reaction to authority. In recent years, the number of people with disabilities is constantly rising due to the aging population and global increase in chronic conditions associated with disability. In 2012 alone, there are about one billion people who are disabled which accounts for 15% of the world s population. In the same year, there are roughly about 4148 people who are disabled in Brunei Darussalam that accounts for about 1.06% of Brunei s total population (Rozan Yunos, 2012). Disabled people require constant assistance in completing basic daily tasks and there are lots of areas where care for the disabled can be improved in Brunei. Four main areas where the care for the disabled can be improved are in the field of education, housing and communication. Education for the disabled in Brunei Darussalam for the last two decades has been very poor, the dropout rates for the disabled in Brunei is very high as they tend to find themselves struggling trying to cope with the education offered to them. This as a result makes the disabled to fail in their education and eventually makes it difficult for them to get a proper job. To be a Division 1 student athlete you must have great time management skills, determination, and be focused. For them to be successful in the classroom and in their sport, they have a very tough decision. They must pick two of the three: social life, academics, or athletics. They must also realize that they need to make the decision before they make a mistake for instance, becoming ineligible. Student athletes have many options for help, just as a average college student does. Student athletes need to have more readily available resources but also use their time wisely through counseling as freshman. The Problem Some people who have never participated in extracurricular activities may ask, What is so different between a student athlete s day compared to an average college student s. According to Richard Sherman, a former Stanford University student athlete and now professional football player, student athletes have mandatory lifting in the morning, meetings, and practices throughout the day during the season (Richard Sherman Student Athlete Education 00:01:14 00:01:26). An average college student doesn t have this time commitment. They may be involved in many organizations but the organizations don t meet every day, which is a big difference between the two schedules. A study done by Penn Schoen Berland showed that on average

The Muscular And Nervous Systems Of Our Body The Muscular and Nervous Systems of our body are two of eight major body functional systems that help us maintain homeostasis or in a chemical balance within our bodies. When the body cannot maintain homeostasis there is usually some sort of sickness or disease that is targeting one of our major body functions. An example of two diseases that could affect our homeostasis within our Muscular and Nervous Systemare Hydrocephalus and Dystonia. The Nervous System is the system of our body that deal with the many nerves in our body that help us respond and react to things outside of our body that could or could not be conscious to us. The disease Hydrocephalus is a disease that affects the Nervous System through the brain. Hydrocephalus is when fluid that normally would help cushion our brain becomes excessive. This fluid is called cerebrospinal fluid. By this fluid becoming excessive it puts harmful pressure on the brain. Hydrocephalus can be categorized into two types. Congenital Hydrocephalus and Acquired Hydrocephalus. Congenital Hydrocephalus is present at birth. The causes could be genetic or inherited through the parent s genes or problems during fetus development. Acquired Hydrocephalus is happens after birth and at any age. Several causes such as head injuries, strokes, infections, tumors, and bleeding in the brain are ways that can lead a person s diagnoses of Acquired Hydrocephalus. Symptoms patients should look for after experiencing one of these causes are:

England s lengthy history of hereditary monarchs and abusive absolutists has led to the system of constitutionalism in 17th century English government. The encouragement of these absolutism practices triggered the need to search for a new way to govern. The reigns of the Stuart monarchy led to the shift from absolutism to constitutionalism during 17th century England. After witnessing the success of Louis XIV s of France establishment of absolutism, England would soon see that James I, and his son Charles I, will fail at establishing absolutism in England and see a constitutional government established. The success of Parliament during the first phase of the English Civil War can be attributed to Oliver Cromwell s New Model Army. This army consisted of radical Puritans and Independents, who believed they were fighting for God. Cromwell was one of the Independents. The first phase of the war was ended with capture of Charles I. Blinded by his belief in divine right, Charles took advantage Parliament s troubles and decided to flee to the Scots for protection. The Rump Parliament now accused the king of treason saying that he had acted as a tyrant, traitor, murder, and a public enemy to the good people of the nation. Charles was beheaded for his actions in 1649 and his attempt at absolutism was put an end. This was a great achievement in the rise of absolutism, as Parliament continued to gain more power in England with every passing monarchy. After the death of Charles I, his son Charles II rose to power (during the civil war). The Roundheads, supporters of Parliament, were victorious by the end of the English Civil War. Oliver Cromwell became Lord Protector of England and held all executive power; legislative power was given to Parliament. Cromwell came to find that it was difficult to work with Parliament, even more so when members debated his authority. Six years after the death of Charles I, who Cromwell fought so hard to eliminate, Cromwell himself had done the exact same thing as Charles; demolish Parliament.
  • 11. The Inconvenience Of Hastings Entertainment Mark Doerr English 101 13, October, 2016 The Inconvenience of Hastings Entertainment Throughout our entire lives we are taught structure. Structure that repeats itself. Each night we set our alarms to the same time previous. We awake robotically, work, interact with the same faces, and then return to our homes to trace the process. So where do we rely on our imagination to come from? The vast majority of us cut it out of our cycle and replace it with a television. Some of us, however, still pick up a book. To fantasize about things that don t actually exist, to escape from reality for just a speck of time. I am of few in this internet driven society that still read. Which for me involves going to a bookstore to look for a good book. Nowadays there are few bookstore opportunities. Due to Amazon and Kindle making it easier to press a few buttons than to drive somewhere to find it. The only two bookstore chains I know of in the Spokane area are Barns Noble and Hastings Entertainment. I usually go to Hastings on 29th street, because it s only about ten blocks from my house. However I have begun to realize that Hastings Entertainment is an inconvenient bookstore for its customers because there is an unreliable computer system, not enough employees to help assist a customer and the store is always re arranged. There is an outdated computer system for books to be located throughout the store. The computer system Hastings has makes it very difficult to search for a book, and

  • 13. Summary Of Walking And The Suburbanized Psyche In Walking and the Suburbanized Psyche, the author, Rebecca Solnit, argues that the development of suburbanization has been the primary problem as to why our modern society continues to devalue the significance and impact of walking. Suburbanization hasn t only changed the way we travel from one place to another, but it has also changed the way we communicate amongst each other and with ourselves. Walkingis looked down upon and has been seen as a symbol of low status. This has led people to exterminate the use of walking in their daily lives. However, even if someone would like to walk to their destination they can t due to the fact that places are shaping their roads to accommodate to the excess use of cars. I agree with Solnit that walking has a positive impact towards our bodies, our world, and our imagination. The wide use of transportation contributes to how society is increasingly turning away from walking. Since, the majority of people drive either their own cars or a form of public transportation regularly they have lost the sense of distance. People may never even know that the daily commute they may take to work is faster to walk to then it is to wait in traffic for. For example, recently my roommate invited me along so she should get a tattoo at a parlor in our hometown. We had to take a bus to get near to the location because it is a bit far away from UCR, but once we got off at a bus stop instead of walking the short distance that would take about 15 minutes we decided to call an Uber. We both haven t been in our hometown in a while, so instead of enjoying it we decided to take a car. At my high school, students were allowed to drive themselves to the campus beginning junior year. I never got my license during high school, so I would either be picked up by one of my parents or a friend who drove to themselves to school would. However, whenever one of my parents would pick me up they would refuse to pick me up directly in front of the school because of the ridiculous amount of traffic. They had me walk a little over half a mile each day after school to the exact same spot. Even though, half a mile wasn t a long walk I realized a difference between taking that small walk and being driven home by

  • 15. Personal Aspects Of My Personal Beliefs In Life (3) My main beliefs in life is that life is an incredible gift, serve/put others first whenever possible, be generous, and most importantly, be faithful and trust God through all the ups and downs. These beliefs become embodied in the way I live because when I am put in situations where I have to choose on sticking to my beliefs or compromising it, I usually decide to stand firm on my beliefs. Serving /putting others first whenever possible is a very humbling experience and also a belief I truly cherish because it shifts the focus from I to others, allowing me to appreciate and remember how blessed I am. Many view me as having a lack of self worth because some view it as though I am trying to please others in order to make myself feel better, however, I view it as stated in Colossians 3:23, Work willingly at whatever you do, as though you were working for the Lord rather than for people. In everything I do, I view it as I am doing it for God rather than for that individual because I am grateful that I am able to have the energy and strength to help others out. Generosity is another belief of mine in which it becomes embodied in the way I live because I m blessed having to grow up without lacking anything. Whenever I wanted something, I could head over to the store and purchase that item without having to worry about money being an issue. As I grew up, I noticed that not everyone has that kind of luxury in their life, I ve known many people in my middle and high school

The General Function Of A Female Slave A slave was then basically anyone who was not white, but color was forced to have a master in which all of the commands that came out of their mouths definitely would have to be done by a slave. Many times they were treated badly and none of the slaves had a say in anything that they would do. Slaves had no rights at all and they were considered basically nothing or a piece of property; a property in which masters could share and buy slaves for themselves. White people who could afford to buy a slave would. Slaves were mainly used for manual labor. The general function of a female slave was mainly to do chores, while men, on the other hand grew crops and worked in many other different things that involved a men s job . As a young girl who became a slave Biddy Mason can certainly relate to the definition of slave. At a young age for a long time Biddy was considered as a Black slave woman who was illiterate. In other words she could not read or write. She worked as a nurse and a midwife and traveled from Mississippi to California to be able to become a successful businesswoman and a generous contributor to social causes. Bridgett Biddy Mason was born a slave, August 15, 1818. No one knows the location in which she was born in, but many people predict that she was born in Georgia, while others predict more likely she may have been born in Mississippi. Biddy was given the name Bridget without a last name. Since Bitty was a slave at the time she was given to Robert
  • 17. How School Is An Environment That Has Great Powers One looks back with appreciation to the brilliant teachers, but with gratitude to those who touched our human feelings. The curriculum is so much necessary raw material, but warmth is the vital element for the growing plant and for the soul of the child. Carl Jung Strolling down memory lane, back to school experiences as a child, many different memories come flooding back; some positive ones, and some not as enjoyable. School is an environment that has great powers. It has the power to influence and shape us, no matter what grade level. Teachers need to realize the great responsibility they carry, for without them even knowing, they can make everlasting marks and impressions on their students, both positively and negatively, forever. Throughout my years in school, I can definitely pick and choose the methods, traits, and behaviors, that I would like to practice and emulate. Unfortunately though, I also learned the hard way, the traits and behaviors that I forever want to avoid and forget! Beginning with my ECE years, there are a few things that I remember very clearly. Firstly, which I find very important, my teachers used songs with whatever they were teaching. Music is the language of the soul is not a famous saying for nothing. Kids learn best through song, as opposed to just listening to teachers talk. This is true for all grades, not only Nursery. The fact that I still remember songs from

Worker deaths in America are down on average , from about 38 worker deaths a day in 1970 to 12 a day in 2012, injuries and illnesses are down from 10.9 incidents per 100 workers in 1972 to 3.4 per 100 in 2011 (Commonly Used Statistics). With that being said it is clearly shown how we have improved a lot from the 1970 s to 2012. In this paper I will address three individuals work experiences, ranging from ages 19 to 80. All of our work experiences are fairly different from each other. The first individual, Felicita, who is 80 years of age, has worked in multiple factories during her lifetime. The first factory she worked in was in 1952 when she was only 19 years of age and first came to America. She worked in a factory making belts and was paid about seventy five cents an hour. Another factory she worked in shortly after the previous one, she was making purses for about one dollar an hour. Upon talking to my grandmother, Felicita, she stated that the hazards she faced in these factories were machine hazards, factory fires, hazards from dust, and pollution. The machine hazards included cutting tools with no guards, lifting heavy items on the machine with no support, loud noises

The objectives and interests of the people, social groups or institutions participating in or affected by the project should always be included in planning, through a stakeholder analysis. This step is generally done during the planning workshop, after a thorough analysis of the situation in the field. The objectives of the stakeholder analysis are: to list and characterise the major stakeholders to understand their present and potential roles and responsibilities to understand their interests, fears, problems and potentials to draw conclusions for the planning of the project. List of main stakeholders 1 This step is a simple collection of names of relevant groups. There are often a large number of stakeholders involved. It is therefore highly recommended to cluster stakeholders into homogeneous groups with similar characteristics, problems and interests. On the other hand, great care should be taken not to lump different groups together. Even conservation groups for example may not be sufficiently differentiated category each conservation organisation within such a grouping may well have its own particular perspective on an issue. Always refer back to the project idea to check whether a group is really a major stakeholder or not. This will often become an iterative process

  • 27. How Storytelling Has A Positive Impact On Children Abstract Many researchers believe that storytelling has a positive impact on children in terms of their oral language development and fluency. According to (Genishi Dyson, 2015) story telling engages both sides of the child s brain thereby allowing them to create a context where certain words be placed during conversation or any form of communication. Stories make children imagine therefore creating motion pictures in their brains and as such the children can copy and say the same words on their own while playing or imitating the story characters. Stories develops the inner world of imagination and creative thinking. Children tap into their imaginative minds and provide their own imagery. As such children can easily create meanings of unknown words. Just like storytelling, read aloud sessions have also been shown to boost children vocabulary and correct pronunciation, thus improving their oral skills. Children aged between three to five years have a higher concentration and listening skills, so stories considered to be a great tool to promote their phonetic knowledge and to hone their presentation skills. Children have to remember key points of the plot and character names. This is an excellent exercise to enhance memorization skills and it also may help guide children in their oral language. (Zipes, 2013) Mahew P. Gallets and Kim (1999, p. 182) stated that storytelling today is increasingly recognized as having important theoretical and

She then read the pages of the dipstick so that they students could pay more attention to the science than the reading. While I was watching as the students were taking their dipstick I was able to see that some of them were able to determine the soil conditions, the climate, and explain why certain animals could or could not live in Vermont. Others focused only on the animals that could survive. A few students were able to explain why those animals belonged or didn t belong in Vermont. • 30. The Theories of Freud and Jung 1. Freud s essay on The Sexual Aberrations posits the existence of a sexual urge, called libido , which Freud finds analogous to hunger. Freud suggests that, like hunger, the libido manifests itself more or less from birth. The chief question for Freud in this paper is why libido should manifest itself in unexpected ways as with inversion , which is the slightly old fashioned term that Freud uses for homosexuality. Freud rather unexpectedly relies on the suggestion that mucus membranes in general are susceptible to sexual stimulation in his opinion, this accounts for such varied phenomena as kissing, thumbsucking, and anal sex. Freud then goes on to explain foot fetishism and other sexual fascination with inanimate objects in terms of primitive religion: This substitution is not unjustly compared with the fetich in which the savage sees the embodiment of his god. (Freud 1910). Freud goes on to explain other aberrations, such as Sado Masochism, in terms of their attempt to cope with an overvaluation of the sexual object. The idealistic impulses of love are seen, by Freud, as perhaps even more evident in people who love whips or feet. Ultimately Freud brings it back to the nature of the hypothesized infantile sexuality in Freud s belief, this has no natural object and is expressed in all directions at once. By contemporary scientific standards, Freud s essay is a mess. To take the most obvious example, Freud died in 1939: this is the same year that the Nobel Prize in

This paper proposes to increase the reliability of RAID level 5 arrays used for storing archival data. Here, group of two or three identical RAID arrays are considered at the initial stage. Next, a shared parity disk is added to each group containing diagonal parities of their arrays. Now, the new organization can tolerate all double disk failures and between 75 and 89 percent of triple disk failures without incurring any data loss. Two techniques can be used for increasing reliability such as Even Odd scheme and Row Diagonal Parity (RDP) scheme. This paper gives a study on Even Odd scheme and Row Diagonal Parity (RDP) scheme for increasing reliability and also proposes a new sparing technique, double parity sparing. Hence forth the proposed scheme provides better reliability as compared to the existing. Keywords RDP, MTTDL, RAID, Reliability. Moreover, Woolworths and Wesfarmers have some differences in accounting policies. For instance, Wesfarmers values inventories at the lower of cost and net realisable value. Woolworths values short life retail stocks in the same way, but for long life retail stocks, the retail inventory method are used to determine cost by reducing the value of the inventory by the appropriate gross margin percentage which takes into account markdown prices. With the help of the epic of Gilgamesh, this myth will help to create a connection between the statement by William Paden, and the character of Gilgamesh. By creating a connection between these two texts, the theory of love, unavoidable fate of death, and the imbalance of power are the reoccurring themes and theories that are the building blocks to the statement by William Paden. By connecting the epic of Gilgamesh to how it can build a world, there is a certain theme and theory that can be connected. I was also taught that humans have the freedom to make their own choices about their lives and that is what determines whether one will ascend to Heaven or descend into Hell. Whether someone choses to accept Christ as their Lord and Savior is what will determine your life after death. I accepted this as truth for a very long time, as I had no exposure to different views. I would argue with my LDS peers on the meaning of Heaven and Hell and their nonbelief, and I would trust everything I was taught without much question. In college, things changed. I still believe in God, but differently. I have struggled with my own beliefs for a while now, because everything I have known is being, or has been challenged by discussions in my classes. I cannot imagine a life without my relationship with God, but I also have a lot of questions, that my mother would balk at. In this paper I aim to answer these questions, after critically explaining and analyzing Augustine s views on free will. The main focus of the paper will be my own beliefs and my own conclusions, and thoughts on how humans can be both predetermined and have free will. I aim to show my understanding on Augustine and also provide a clear and concise explanation of how and why I believe the way I do. The financial crisis in Brazil spread out rapidly to other nations in Latin America and as a result several billions of dollars were drained from these countries and this hindered the trade exchange with the United States. As a result, the nations in the Latin America experienced one of the nastiest economic recession that was mainly fuelled by the Asian financial crisis. The effect of the financial disaster was predominantly severe in the Latin America s small economies, for instance Bolivia, Uruguay, Ecuador, Chile and, Argentina and Colombia (Hunter, 1999). • 42. Incarceration And Forensic Analysis Over the past several years forensic science has included both negative and positive aspects in the incarceration of individuals. Testing of blood types commonly used with sexual assault cases, in the 1980s, with using blood types A, B and O frequencies were distributed and a database was created. Although the database could administer a percentage of individuals with common blood types it was unable to differentiate specific people. DNA testing became more prominent in 1989 and defendants that were once found guilty were being exonerated. Gary Dotson was the first to be incarcerated in 1979 due to serology evidence collected blood typing was conducted. After several years, of false imprisonment, further testing was done by conducting a Polymer
  • 43. Defining The Broad Scope of Artist What is art? As I continue to develop my skills and contemplate their purpose, my initial analysis has not only shifted, but expanded in complexity. Acquired through our growth into modernism, art has manifested a certain dependence on theoretical discourse. German Philosopher Arnold Gehlen proposes that art s need for explanation is derived from its difficulty or otherwise inaccessibility to the public; implying that although art is always human, human is not always artist. The exclusivity of the art world supports this notion as it is categorized and defined by a hierarchal pattern of thought development: from initial Spectator, to Theorist, to Artist in a sense, paralleling the core pattern of the human condition and artistic... So if I had written on my picture This is a pipe , I d have been lying! by surrealist painter Rene Magritte; on Treachery of images in which a representative image of pipe is underlined with the French equivalent phrase this is not a pipe. The theoretically informed spectator is then entrusted by the benighted audience to legitimize the artistry of the piece by providing and outline for interpretation. I imagine these assertive theoretical perspectives are as helpful to the audience as they are irritating to the artist. Theories, by definition are limiting. Once a piece of art is contextualized under the intellectual bias of an established thinker, there is a tendency for further interpretation to become obsolete. It is my belief that in regards to Art theories are counterproductive to their goal. They disseminate a bias that sabotages the individual experience rather than enhancing it. For the artist of 2014, however, the formulation of a personal theory or understanding is becoming more vital than ever. Referencing earlier times as exemplified throughout Classicism, Neo classicism, Romanticism etc. artistry belonged to those who practiced towards perfecting the traditional techniques passed on from previous generations; little, if
  • 44. The United States Election System Operates Under A... The United States election system operates under a political context. Every policy that shapes the economic outcome of a people has the effect of being politically manipulated. Through out this passage I will introduce you to the cause and effects of the way our election system is set up. American elections are design to provide democracy to the people. However, this democracy is often questioned by the counter attacks that is brought forth by certain elements that at times seems to be self created. Political theories suggest that elections are inspired by the need of one to control and manage resources. This plays heavily on the perception of the public as the essential need of survival is predicated on the performance of political... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It is nothing more then conflict! Conflict which is the reflection of people s attitudes or difference in relation to several of issues is the foundation for which elections are based on. It is also the component that is used to lend elections the validity to be a workable force. Representation serves at the forefront of the political process but it has been a much debate around what determines how people get what they want. Take president Barack Obamafor an example; the parity ratio just had a massive shift in the house and to some extent in the senate, because many people felt their needs wasn t being met. But when he ran for re election he won by an overwhelmingly majority. So how does one who is engaged in the process explain the huge disparity in the trend? It s very simple. First remember what I said about the concept of power and those who seek it, they get power by causing a change in public opinion. The operation of the political structure is fixed to flow according to the swings of certain dimensions of politics. Those dimensions are conflict and compromise. Compromise is a concept that we must become familiar with because it dictates the method of efficiency. And efficiency is the outlay of how a political system should function. When you don t have efficiency you have grid lock. Grid lock is a major ramification of a political system that have at the very lest failed its base as well as its people across parity lines. It reflects a
  • 45. The Setting of Paul s Case Essay The setting of the short story Paul s Case is clear and appropriate for the story. This is because Paul s feelings in the story happen to have a direct connection to the setting of the story. The East Coast of the United States is where the story takes place. From Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, to Newark, New Jersey, and then on to New York, New York, the exact setting differs throughout the story. ...the dull dawn was beginning to show grey when the engine whistled a mile out of Newark (Cather). Now, aboard a train to New Jersey, Paul is longing for the beauty of New York. After the train stops in Newark, Paul hopes to spend a night or two in town and then get on board another train that will take him to New York. Winter represents the end of things in literature and it is in this winter, that Paul goes on to commit suicide. The atmosphere of the story is a cold, stormy, and dead state. Paul is lost in himself during the storms of winter. He is like the train that has to plow its way through the January snowstorm. ...the nerve stuff of all sensations was whirling about him like the snow flakes (Cather). Everything about the story is whirling and blowing as the wind does, including the snowstorm he sees while on the train. These cold storms are the base of the atmosphere in which Paul struggles to find himself. Towards the end, Paul witnesses many examples of death and darkness. • 46. The Ethics Of The Clinical Trials In recent years, the number of clinical trials increased significantly. With an increasing number of clinical trials, the ethical issues related to clinical trials have also increased. Furthermore, the ethics of the clinical trials were violated on several occasions in last few decades. Nazi experiments with World War II initiated the world leaders to implement a code of conduct that protects the autonomy of the clinical trial subjects. Therefore, the Nuremberg Code was initiated in the year of 1949. However, this Code failed to protect the human subjects in clinical trials. Tuskegee syphilis trial was one of the few incidents that were exposed in front of the entire country. The regulatory agencies and the government then realized that there should be better regulations to protect the human subjects in the clinical trials. A series of codes and regulations were established to protect the subjects in the clinical trial after the Tuskegee incident. The Belmont report (1979), International Conference on Harmonization guideline for Good Clinical Practice (1996), the Declaration of Helsinki (2000), and CIOMS International Ethical Guidelines for Biomedical Research Involving Human Subjects (2002) are the main guidelines in recent years. There are also federal regulations to protect human subjects in the clinical trials. They are USCFR Title21 Part 50, 56 (Protection of Human Subjects and Institutional Review Boards, 1991), and USCFR Title 46 (The Common Rule, 1981). These federal

  • 48. Synthetic Biology Therapies And Treatment Of Infectious... To begin, synbio technology is becoming a necessity in the biomedicine and pharmaceutical industry. Synthetic biology therapies has been developed for the treatment of infectious diseases and cancer, as well as approaches in vaccine development (Ruder et al., 2011). As Ruder et al. (2011) have discovered, effective synthetic biologytherapies can been rationally designed and constructed to alter mechanisms underlying disease and related biological processes. In the process of developing synthetic biologyfor prevention of infection, bacteriophages have been manipulated to attack bacterial strains by disrupting antibiotic defense mechanisms. The development of these synthetic biology therapies is essential in preventing widespread of diseases which may be unstoppable using other means. In the case of cancer treatment, synthetic biology plays an even more important role. Despite the success of modern cancer therapies, the major therapeutic interventions surgery, radiation and chemotherapy still causes considerable damage to healthy tissues in cancer patients. In this aspect, synthetic biology is no longer merely an alternative, but more of a necessity as we need new cancer treatments that precisely distinguish between diseases and healthy cells (Ruder et al., 2011). With synthetic biology, synbiologists are able to engineer bacteria to target and invade only cancer cells, programming the invasion to occur only in specific vivo conditions, as well as engineering bacteria

Jessica Sham Mr. Reynolds Period 3 08/02/15 Similarities Differences Between the Trans Saharan and Silk Road Trade Routes During the time period 600 C.E. to 1450 C.E., trade networks were relied upon to transfer goods, ideas, and services. Both the Trans Saharan and Silk Road trade routes depended on animals, luxury goods, and economic growth. However, the trade routes differed in animals, types of luxury goods, and success of economic growth. Animals caused a noticeable increase in the use of trade routes. In the same way, both trade routes used animals as a link to international relations and transportation. For instance, Trans Saharan animals opened up the chance for Berber traders to increase contact with Muslims, connecting West Africa with the rest of the Muslim believers. At the same time, the Silk Road animals allowed Southeast Asia to perfect cavalry warfare. However, each trade route had access to different animals. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Trans Saharan trade route was able to exchange their luxury goods for pottery, glassware, and textiles from Persia, India, and China. Additionally during the 900 s the kings converted to Islam causing wealthy merchants to also convert. On the other hand, overland trade on the Silk Road produced silk, spices, and precious stones. Meanwhile sea lanes on the Silk Road were capable of carrying bulkier items such as steel, stone, coral, and building materials. Because China was the only country that had cultivators and weavers with an outstanding knowledge of developing techniques, they were able to produce high quality silk fabrics in classical
  • 50. Analysis Of The Book St. Lucy s Home For Girls Raised... Kanye West said it best, Everybody knows I m a M*f**ing monster and honestly, as humans we are. In Seven Monster Theses, Jeffery Cohen develops an idea that monsters are essential to society. In fact, they construct what is normal , rational , and civilized . Specifically, monsters are foundational to how we view ourselves. Monsters contain all the traits deemed unacceptable and odd. It can be concluded that every outlier is a monster . In St. Lucy s Home for Girls Raised by Wolves, Karen Russell tells the story of a pack of wolf girls who are transitioning into young ladies. Russell delves into society s need for conformity, gender roles, and change. The story is told from the point of view of the middle wolf girl, Claudette, and follows her on her journey from wolf to woman. In relation to Jeffery Cohen s idea of monster culture, Claudette s journey applies to Thesis IV The Monster Dwells at the Gates of Difference and part of Thesis I The Monster s Body is a Cultural Body . Claudette is torn between two worlds and she has to learn how to successfully move between the two cultures . Through Cohen s theses, Karen Russell uses character development and dialogue to depict the inner and outer battle of societal femininity and individualized femininity and the consequence of accepting either side. The presence of monsters are essential for this acceptance. To build the gate of difference , Russell makes Claudette resistant to the culture change. This
