Man For All Seasons Corruption
The play in A Man for All Seasons, written by Robert Holt in the 1960s, retells the story of King
Henry the VIII, his separation from the Church, and how his chancellor Thomas More resisted all
attempts from the King to make him approve of the action. This story confirms that management of
political power corrupts the minds and hearts of groups and individuals, such as Cromwell and King
Henry VIII, but for some, such as Thomas More, it teaches them the importance of integrity and
remaining faithful to one s own truths. While political power itself is not evil, it is still an effective
tool to achieve ambitions and aspirations good or bad. This quality of power tends to easily break
down and dissolve the moral strengths and good will of any ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

(Chagrined) So you give it away, of course. (pg. 8)
Because of his constant cultivation of character and regular remembrance of principles, More was
strong enough to withstand the corruption of power. Even with his life threatened, he never allowed
himself to waver. More still clearly saw the principles of truth and integrity and realized the value of
it. He silently but resolutely resisted the King s attempts to break him, until his death
Power itself is not evil, and never has been. It s only a tool. But there are temptations of power;
temptations of absolute control, fame, and gain. People stumble underneath the pressure of these
enticements, because their character and moral strength are not established enough. People like this,
like Master Rich, are so eager to achieve that fame or absolute control, that they willingly relinquish
their better judgement and good character. Often this happens through other men of corruption and
carnal desires. But, even among hosts of weak and stumbling men, Thomas More remains steadfast to
his beliefs and principles, valuing integrity and wisdom far higher than fame and popularity. While the
responsibility of power easily corrupts many people, including kings and scholars, for others, and for
Thomas More, it awakens them to the dangers of lust for power and tutors them on the importance of

Compare And Contrast Janelange And Rihanna
You can t always get what you want, but if you try really hard you can get some satisfaction in
dreaming about it. Right? Here are some of the dream collabs that we hope will become a reality one
day.
Janelle Monae and Bruno Mars The Funk Fellows
They coordinated and toured together on the Hooligans in Wonderland Tour in 2011.; they contributed
to the Rio 2 s soundtrack; both of their musical and fashion senses are borrowed from the Doo Wop
era, so where the track at? These two have been on each other s radar for some time now, surely there
must have been a conversation, or at least a thought on the matter at some point?
Solange Rihanna The Flowerchild and the Bad Gyal.
These women could do for the eardrums what sugar and spice do for the taste buds. The two singers
are so different in so many ways: manner, dress, artistic style, but to imagine them coming together to
record a song that combines Solange s soulful funk with the Rihanna s provocative bad assery is,
unfortunately, a mere, wet daydream...for now. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
With the acclaim that followed Weird Al s comeback album Mandatory Fun last summer, Weird Al

YouTube lyrical comedian and cynic Bo Burnham found themselves in a studio one day, it would be
nothing short of pure hilarity.

Advantage And Disadvantage Of Indian Students
Indian students prefer abroad to study in huge numbers, and have therefore become an important
source of global diversity, research power and revenue for educational institutions offering higher
education in the world.
Although, the last couple of years has seen a steady decline in the total number of Indian students
opting for courses abroad, today students as young as 17 years are seen seeking information on foreign
countries from education advisors or surfing education portals to get a clear picture about the college
abroad.
The reasons are plentiful. Need for global exposure and lack of opportunities back home are the major
reasons. The flexible functioning of educational institutions abroad is another attraction. Most

The Enlightenment Period
Americans in the Enlightenment period strongly connected themselves with the classical age in terms
of how they approached their art. The Enlightenment period lasted for about 150 years, from
approximately 1700 1850. Throughout this time period many artists took inspiration from the classical
age which occurred in ancient Greece and Rome hundreds of years before. We can see examples of
this in buildings like The White house and Monticello in America, and Kedleston Hall in England.
These three buildings, though located in very different parts of the world, all have a number of
aestheticly similar attributes.
The Enlightenment age was very much an intellectual movement that grew from interrelating the
theories of science, the environment and the human race (Enlightenment, 2015, para 1). The origins of
this movement came from ideas that date back to the Renaissance period in the 14th century. Science
became a big part of this period as people now did not just rely on the bible, they began to be
inquisitive about the world around them, thus the dividing of science and religion occurred. Scientists
began to ask questions about the environment around them, soon people wanted proof and reasoning,
not just thoughts and ideas. Another successful idea of that time was that philosophers began to
rethink the role of God and the effects on human life. People still believed in God, but the significance
of religion and the role that God played in peoples daily life was not as

A Pipettes Evaluation
I Kyle McGeary have done all of the work on Exam 1 by myself without the help of anyone else. 1.
The class did very well in terms of the accuracy and precision of class A pipettes. The tolerance for
class A pipettes is ±.006 for 1mL, ±.01 for 5 mL, and ± .02 for 10 mL (. As a whole the class did rather
well in terms of the expected accuracy and precision of the class A glassware. I found the expected
values from a website. The student who had the best calibration was student number 1. There recorded
values were within the closest range of each pipette. I believe that my data is not within the best
simply because, one; my one mL pipette was not delivering the entire amount of water, two; I was
pretty relaxed in my measurements, I will be honest and say that I did not ensure that each draw was
perfect, in which I did not check at eye level if the bottom of the meniscus was exactly on the line. So
in order to be more accurate, I could make sure and try to make perfect draws every time. Avg 1mL

I have been using the washers to make sure the balance is calibrated by weighing out three different
sized washers a total of three lab periods. I weighed each washer three times. I have a small, medium,
and large washer. Using the same scale to remain consistent, I weighed these washers out. Overall, my
data collected was very consistent; the weights of the washers recorded all remained very close in
value. As a result of this, it shows that the scale remained calibrated and constant, for it gave accurate
and precise readings of mass. Good laboratory practices that relate to equipment calibration consist of
making sure you actually regularly calibrate your laboratory equipment. In doing this you are making
sure that your measurements are as accurate and precise as they can be, and that they are consistent
and can be replicated, as well as reliable and

Essay on Joseph McCarthy and McCarthyism
The Second Red Scare was a period of heightened fears of the Soviet Union and the political ideology
of Communism. The paranoia and hysteria inherent to this period led to discrimination of
Communists. Joseph McCarthy was a main player in this Red Scare, which was sometimes called the
Witch Hunts in Washington. He was a Wisconsin senator who made claims against those whom he
suspected of being Communists or Communist sympathizers.
Joseph McCarthy was born in a small town in Wisconsin on November 15, 1908. After quitting school
at the age of fourteen, he had a short stint as a chicken farmer and became the manager of a local
grocery store ( McCarthy ). At the age of twenty he completed the four year high school curriculum in
nine short ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
His accusations generated national interest and gained him a significant amount of fame, or rather,
infamy. However, it was later found out that the piece of paper he d been holding during that speech
had merely been his laundry receipt (Bates). Even so, McCarthy was already well on his way to
becoming one of the most notable communist hunters in U.S. history.
The Second Red Scare took place during the Cold War. It arose largely due to widespread fear of the
Communistic Soviet Union, but also due to strong opposition to Truman s New Deal, mostly by
conservative Republicans who equated the Deal s labor unions and social programs to Communism (
The Second ). McCarthy began his hearings in order to identify what he believed was a Communist
conspiracy, and stop the supposed Communist infiltration into the government. He has often been
criticized for the methods he used in these hearings. For example, his executive sessions, a term which
usually was synonymous with closed, were, as John G. Adams, the army s counsel at many hearings,
put it, neither closed nor secret, essentially boiling down to that Joe could do whatever he wanted
(U.S. Senate xix). McCarthy s harsh methods were often criticized, and in 1954, the Senate censured
him for his non cooperation with and abuse of the Subcommittee on Privileges and Elections and

Background research and short explanation
Although the global economic crisis has weakened consumer confidence there is a remarkable
consumption phenomenon in fashion market. Fast fashion is a new word used in fashion scene to say
that designs move from runaway speedily so as to take the latest fashion at Fashion Week in both the
spring and the fall of every year. These trends are designed and produced fast and cheaply to enable
the mainstream consumer to take benefit of contemporary clothing styles with a lower price. This
concept of quick manufacturing at economical price is applied in large retail companies such as Zara,

Methylcyclohexane Synthesis Essay
Discussion: While hydrogen is not normally observed as a functional group, however, one exception
involves free radical substitution through halogenation. This mechanism essentially function by first
initiation step in which the halogenated molecule splits into two halogenated radicals which is
followed by the formation of a hydrocarbon radical. The next step of the radical mechanism,
propagation, involves the hydrocarbon molecule reaction with a halogenated molecule, thus producing
a hydrocarbon halogen (R X) compound, and more halogenation molecule thus allowing the reaction
to continue on to completion. A control mechanism will allow for the prediction of what product will
be obtained from a radical reaction. If random chance of the halogen ... Show more content on

This is once again due the reasoning stated earlier, as in terms of hydrogen reactivity: benzene
aromatic ~ aliphatic tertiary secondary primary. This is based on the reasoning in Hammond s
Postulates that the more stable radical will have a smaller rate determining step and the transition state
will resemble the products more so, thus indicating why it can be considered more stable. The actual
order observed was methylcyclohexane ethylbenzene toluene tert butylbenzene ~ cyclohexane. This
was not the predicted order as methylcyclohexane should have reacted third fastest instead of reacting
first as observed, however, excluding the error of methylcyclohexane the rest of the prediction seem to
line up with the observed results. Since methylcyclohexane was the only contributor to the
misalignment with the predicted and observed indicates that some sort of error occurred in the process
of carrying out the reaction. The source of error is most likely due to the possibility that
methylcyclohexane had the bromine added to it a few seconds prior to being set down and timed for a
reaction. The reasoning behind this is because methylcyclohexane should react fast, however, should
still be slower than ethylbenzne and toluene. Another source of error that was likely a major
contributor was the amount of each compound present in the test tube. If too much of the arene was
added to the test tube a the reaction time will likely be noticeably slower as there will b more product
to brominate. Therefore, it is possible that the methylcyclohexane test tube (#13) had too little of
methylcyclohexane in it. The toluene reaction time at 15 seconds also indicates that this test tube
possibly had too much toluene placed in it, thus leading to a slower observed reaction time. Therefore,
it is unlikely that the initial prediction was wrong due to the reactivity of the

My Mother Speech
My Mother I ve been taught many things by many people in my life, but I believe that the person who
has taught me the most is my mother. My mother has taught me several important things I will need to
know right now as well as when I am older, such as, how to react to situations, things about the Bible,
and how to handle things that involve boys. In the many times my mother has told me how to react to
situations, I haven t always listened, and in the end, Mom is ALWAYS right. One time I didn t listen to
my mother s advice was when I was in elementary school. A little boy was picking on me and I really
didn t like it. I told Momma and Daddy about it and their responses were completely different.
Momma told me to ignore him and pray for him, but Daddy told me to punch him in the nose. All I m
going to say is, I ended up in the principals office wishing I had taken my mother s advice. Now,
enough with all the bad stuff, let me tell you about a time I actually did listen to my mom. My best
friend Laura and I were having a disagreement on the way we believe. I believe that when you sin,
that means doing something that goes against the Bible, you must ask for forgiveness or you are once
again a sinner. Laura, however, did not believe that. She told me that it was stupid of me to ask the
Lord to forgive me because once I am saved, I am saved forever and I can sin all I want. I told her
otherwise, that caused a great debate between us. I told my mom about this problem and she told me
to say this, Laura, if I am wrong and you are right, what harm will it do for me to ask for forgiveness?
I ll go to heaven either way. But if you are wrong and I am right, you re in for a whole lot of trouble
when it comes time for Jesus to come back. I said that to Laura and so far the topic has only come up a
few times and we are still best friends, all thanks to my mother s great advice. Now that we re on the
topic of beliefs I m going to tell you about some of the things my mother has taught me about The
Bible. I have been in church all my life, so has my mother and father. My father is a deacon in our

occurred rarely. With that being said, the website states Though no one doubts the sincerity of his

Fingerprinting In A Crime Scene
One of the most essential tools in a crime scene is fingerprinting. Jan Evangelista noticed different
ridges on peoples fingers in 1823 (UXL). When he noticed that people started to look into it and found
out that no two people have the same prints. Fingerprints are left because sweat and oils collect on the
ridges of your finger and then left on the item you touched in the exact same pattern. The FBI has a
library of fingerprints so they can see who commited the crime if they can find fingerprints (UXL).
Henry Faulds, an english doctor, was credited as the first person to use fingerprinting in crime scene
investigation. He used fingerprinting to catch a criminal that broke into his hospital. The most

Documenting the evidence before anything is moved not only helps solve the crime but also helps
prosecute the criminal in court. Crime scene photography documents the location of the victims body.
Photography also documents the location shell casings, footprints, and blood splatters. Findings such
as broken locks, weapons, and condition of the body are also photographed to use in court. Finding
blood is a major goal of any crime scene investigation. Blood types can be used as incriminating
evidence (Rae). Blood samples can identify the criminal and the victim. Modern DNA analysis is the
most important tool to identify criminals. Bloodstain pattern analysis (BPA) allows investigators to
recreate crime. BPA uses biology, physics, and mathematics. A blood pattern can give an idea of where
the blood came from. That information allows investigators to know if the body was moved. In some
cases there is no visible blood present and techniques to find hidden blood vary depending on the
situation. A chemical investigators use called luminol. When luminol comes in contact with blood it
reacts with the iron in the blood and the result is the blood starts to glow. Investigators also use
infrared camera that can see blood under 6 layers of paint. These techniques have solved many crimes

The atmosphere of World War II helped enhance Lee s writing because it led to the debut of Captain
America Issue #3 in 1941 with the help of Joe Simon and Jack Kirby. Lee used elements of the war
and incorporated it into his work. The controversy and calamity of the war made Lee s Captain
America a prominent figure during the war period because he epitomized anti Nazism in an
unexpressed interventionist tone (Wright 474). Lee constructed a tone towards Captain America,
which pledged to wage war against the enemies who were a threat to justice not only home in America
but also out of the country. With this tone, Lee s work had the most attention in the World War II
years. The influence of the war in Lee s work, however, led to some criticism. The ideology that Lee s
Captain America held wasn t viewed properly by political groups of other countries at the time, but
Lee found reverence from young readers who idolized patriotism. At the time, Marvel Comics was
called Timely Comics, and Timely Comics became the first comic book company to publish anti Nazi
stories. After World War II transitioned to the Cold War, America and the Soviet Union had high
tensions between one another, and the feeling of uncertainty grew amongst the two nations. Lee used
the high tension and uncertainty America faced with the Soviet Union, and incorporated them into his

War I And Sick Of War
According to William Tecumseh Sherman, he is tired and sick of war. It is only those who have neither
fired a shot nor heard the shrieks and groans of the wounded who cry aloud for blood, for vengeance,
for desolation. War is hell. This statement is self explanatory; the nature of war is reckless. Yes, when
experiencing war, some soldiers may come across gratifying sounds of larks, song birds, which
remind them of ebullient moments. Nevertheless, is brutally fighting really worth that? Roughly ten
million soldiers lost their lives in World War I, along with seven million civilians; also, many soldiers
experienced shell shock, which is a psychological disturbance caused by war. As a result of the
heinous and atrocious experiences that many were put through, this inspired many poets to record
their remembrances. Although war may bring memories of happiness because of the pleasing sounds,
war should be considered a crime regardless of how necessary or justified it seems because war leads
to mental anguish due to the memories of physical pain, soldiers being frightened because of
unexpected occurrences and ferocious deaths.
In the poem Mental Cases by Wilfred Owen, Owen describes in stark detail the ghastly physical
symptoms and memories that led to long lasting mental torment. A few months before Owen was
killed in action in 1918, he wrote this poem that appears to draw heavily on his own experience of
being a mental case at Craiglockhart War Hospital in Edinburgh where

Why Might Different Pressure Groups Use Different Methods...
Why might different pressure groups use different methods in their methods in their attempts to
influence government .
Pressure groups are groups of like minded individuals who come together on the basis of shared
interests or a commonly held cause in order to put pressure on policy makers at Westminster and
beyond. Pressure groups are significantly more numerous than political parties because whereas the
parties tend to aggregate and accommodate a wide range of views in an effort to see their candidate
elected to public off, pressure groups have a tendency to fragment opinion. Recent years have seen the
emergence of looser social movements and more focused single issue groups, replacing larger, more
traditional groups as a fundamental ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It starts from the premise that conventional methods of influencing policy are flawed and that more
visible and direct protests, perhaps even involving civil disobedience, illegal methods or violence,
may offer the best opportunity of success because they attract media attention, raise public awareness
and force politicians to sit up and listen.
Although many feel that direction action techniques provide the most immediate way of articulating
their views and achieving tangible results, critics argue that the rise in single issue, direct action
politics undermines our system of representative democracy. This is because such campaigns prevent
governments from implementing their programmes and from pursuing policies that address the bigger
picture.
The scope and scale of direct action campaigns has increased significantly since the 1990s. The anti
roads protests of recent years, the campaign against live animal exports, the campaigns against fox
hunting and vivisection, the fuel protests and the campaigns by groups such as Fathers4Justice and
environmental groups such as Greenpeace and Plane Stupid have al been seen to have had some effect
on policy or opinion.
Precisely how effective individual pressure groups are is often hard to gauge not least because many
core insider groups prefer not to publicise the extent of their influence, for fear of alienating the
government and losing their privileged status. Similarly, while high profile

What s The Price Of A Bottle Of Water, Or A Ready Meal...
What s the price of a bottle of water, or a ready meal from the corner shop? One pound? Two ninety
nine? The real cost is probably more than you realise. That s because our addiction to plastic is
responsible for one of the worst ecological disasters of the modern age: the build up of plastic in the
world s oceans. Environmental activists have been warning of this ticking bomb for years and
governments around the world are now starting to act. But there are also things that we can all do at
home and in our lives to reduce the damage. THE FACTS The amount of plastic produced worldwide
is estimated to be around 300 million tonnes each year and between 1.5 and 4.5 per cent of that ends
up in the ocean. Were it all to wash up on shore, it would cover every foot of coastline in the world. As
a result, the ratio of plastic to plankton in the Mediterranean is thought to be about 1:2, one in three
species of marine mammals have been found entangled in litter, fish in the North Pacific ingest about
12 to 24 thousand tonnes of plastic every year, and tiny fragments of plastic have even been found in
the arctic ice shelf. Each one of these facts is shocking in its own right, and a tarnish on the human
race. MISCONCEPTIONS It is easy to imagine that you don t contribute to plastic in the ocean. All
the plastic you use goes into the bin and that is dealt with by the council, who surely don t put it in the
ocean. But the truth is that around 80 per cent of rubbish that ends up in the

obvious that there would be different levels, it was never something I thought about. The levels go
from least confidential to most confidential. The order of the levels from least to most are:
biographical data, superficial preferences, goals/aspirations, religious beliefs and convictions, deeply
personal and private fears/fantasies/desires/past experiences, and the most confidential of them all is
your inner self concept (Hock, 2016). This has impacted my relationships because it opened my eyes

My personal sexual philosophy is based primarily on my morals and beliefs. I think that sex should
remain between two committed people, and I don t think the world should be included in your sex life.
I believe that sex is not an activity that should be taken for granted; I think it s something you should
cherish with the person you love. I could probably be considered someone who is very old school
because I think sex should not be an activity that you share with everyone, but that s a part of my
sexual philosophy. My attitude about sex is very positive until it becomes something that s not special,
AKA with someone whom I don t love. I ve already stated this, but my preference regarding sex is for
it to be between two people who love each other. For me, it would be with the person whom I love and
can see myself with in the future. I also prefer it to be private because then it is something very
personal between me and the person I love. My idea of a healthy and fulfilling romantic relationship is
one in which we both can be completely open and honest with each other. A relationship in which we
both are open to trying new things and one that is not revolving around sex. This is my idea of a
healthy and fulfilling romantic relationship because it allows for us fully appreciate one another for
things that are different than sex. My sexual behaviors remain in my relationship with my boyfriend. I
try to be open to people who identify themselves differently regarding their sexual and gender identity.
I personally identify as a women who is romantically, emotionally, sexually, and physically attracted
to men. I think I will know I m feeling lust rather than love when I want to be with a person only for
sex. I ll be aware if it s lust if I d rather not spend time with a person if I know there will be nothing
physical or sexual going on. I know I m in love when I m happy spending time with my boyfriend and

Metathreate In Hamlet Essay
William Shakespeare was well known for his use in metathreate, a play which features another play as
a part of the plot. First time that we see the making of metathreate was when Hamlet declares in Act
II, where he announces a whole plot to catch his uncle Claudius, and force him into a genuine
confession of the murder of his father. Due to the fact that Hamlet has been entrusted with the duty of
avenging his father s death by his father s Ghost. He was then told learns that his father may be
murdered by Claudius, but he hesitates to execute the command of the Ghost and Claudius sin. All he
need and want now is to have a strong proof before taking any revenge and allows time to lapse until
the arrival of the players. Their arrival somehow inspires him with a sudden idea of enacting a whole
play to catch the conscience of Claudius.
At first, Hamlet has struggles during the first part of the play with the admonition from the Ghost of
his father to avenge his murder. He surely wants to be a loyal son and he hates his uncle, however, he s
not too quick to commit murder himself. And that s why he decides that he needs some confirmation

Employee Retention And Turnover Rate
Employee Retention and Turnover
Employee retention could be described as the efforts by any business or organization to develop
strategies and initiatives that support current staff into remaining with the organization. Retention is
the ability to hold onto those employees you would want to keep for longer than your competition
(Johnson, 2000). Success or otherwise of an organization in retaining its employee s is measured in
terms of Employee Retention Rate (ERR) or through assessment of the Employee Turnover Rate
(ETR). High employee retention rate means that employee turnover rate has been low and vice versa.
Companies today are interested in retaining valuable employees and good employees are increasingly
becoming more difficult ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Similarly, Silverthorne (2004) notes that, turnover causes significant expense to an organization,
including direct costs of replacing an employee and indirect cost related to loss of experience and
lowered productivity. These costs have important implications for an organization, notes Silverthorne,
and anything that can be done to reduce turnover will lead to significant benefits to an organization.
Recruiting is arguably one of the most critical roles of an HR manager (Pandey et al., 2012).
Organizational performance can be credited with the identification and selection of the most talented
individuals. An employee with high potential suggests that there is a future viability that is not present
in the existing workforce (Yarnall, 2011). An appropriately structured recruitment strategy is essential
for the future success of an organization and at times can determine whether that organization will
grow or recede during a particular economic period. A successful recruiting strategy can improve
recruiting effectiveness by 30% and reduce the time to fill that position by 28% (CEB, 2012). It is
clear that whatever recruitment strategy is being used, the desired outcome has not been reached. This
study examines recruitments strategies and their correlation on retention with the desire of finding the

Angela s Ashes is a remarkable memoir in which the author, Frank McCourt, uses an abundance of
literary devices to convey the depressing story of his Irish Catholic childhood. Through his themes,

crumbling hopes. Her dreams of raising a healthy family with a supportive husband have withered and

vast engine that could rend the soil. I recalled that Blake had always said that the first 24 hours after

bear a deeper malice, live to earn, thrive, and as persistent I was, I still managed to convince myself of
the worst.
I greeted Blake and the surgery team as they were scrubbing in, I could see the Pre anaesthesia nurse
hooking up the patient, Jenna to fluids, and I could feel death creeping, like an obedient monster
purring at its toil. I felt my stomach rise to my throat, yet I felt it drop to the floor. Blake looked at me,
cautiously, and he assured me everything would be okay. I watched the creases around his eyes as he
smiled, convincing myself he was right.

Excitatory Essay
The excitatory (glutamatergic) inputs to the hippocampal formation originate from the neurons in the
different layers of the entorhinal cortexcite {1}cite{2}cite{3}cite{4}cite{5}. The axons, projecting
from the superficial second layer of entorhinal cortex to dentate gyrus and CA3, constitute for the
perforant pathway and are strictly unidirectional and excitatory cite{2}. Whilst layer II neurons of
entorhinal cortex innervate the neurons found in dentate gyrus and the CA3 neurons, neurons from
layer III of entorhinal cortex send their axons to subiculum and CA1. The granule cells, synonymously

another example of the high organizaton of the neuronal trajectory in hippocampal

the direct projection of these neurons towards the fimbria and the second is the subsequent collateral

HIV Epidemic In Baton Rouge Essay
Abstract
Human Immunodefiency Virus has become all too common in my hometown Baton Rouge, Louisiana.
Rapidly this city has taken the number one spot leading the nation cases per capita of 100,000 people,
according to Rene Taylor, Executive Director of Family Services of Greater Baton Rouge. (Feb.,

Americas account for 95% of the residents. Studies show that age, poverty and education level is
concurrent with most people infected with the virus. Baton Rouge has many organizations and

This is the strain that can also infect humans.4
How did HIV cross from chimps to humans?
The most commonly accepted theory is that of the hunter . In this scenario, SIVcpz was transferred to
humans as a result of chimps being killed and eaten, or their blood getting into cuts or wounds on
people in the course of hunting.5 Normally, the hunter s body would have fought off SIV, but on a few
occasions the virus adapted itself within its new human host and became HIV 1.
There are four main groups of HIV strains (M, N O and P), each with a slightly different genetic make
up. This supports the hunter theory because every time SIV passed from a chimpanzee to a human, it
would have developed in a slightly different way within the human body, and produced a slightly
different strain. This explains why there is more than one strain of HIV 1 The most studied strain of
HIV is HIV 1 Group M, which is the strain that has spread throughout the world and is responsible for
the vast majority of HIV infections today. ( origin of HIV AIDS,

The Invention Of The World Wide Web
The present society of today embodies a distinct shape, organization, role, and feel from the societies
of a millennium ago, a century ago, or even a decade ago. These metamorphoses are, in part, caused
by the multiple technological revolutions that our society has experienced throughout its history. Each
time a technological revolution occurs when a novel technology is introduced to build upon or succeed
an older one the entire society (and the individuals that comprise it) changes. However, as Marshall
McLuhan suggested within the printed pages of Understanding Media: The Extensions of Man, the
medium is the message (McLuhan 1964). In other words, these shifts are not as much the direct result
of the invention s content or it s use, as they are the outcomes of effects that are intrinsic within the
technology itself. Although McLuhan published this work in 1964, almost thirty years before the
invention of the World Wide Web, this adage still holds true for the Internet today.
Technologies, such as the Internet, should not be viewed, using the instrumentalist perspective, as
inherently neutral tools that are valuable only for their ends, intended purposes, or practical benefits
(Ellul, Wilkinson, and Merton 1964, Carr 2010, 45). Rather, the means themselves, or what McLuhan
would consider the medium, should also be recognized as carrying messages that hold powerful,
unintended consequences for society (Ellul, Wilkinson, and Merton 1964, McLuhan 1964). In

Symbolism is the use of an object, person, situation, or word to represent something else, according to

awed by its exotic beauty (Hurst 473). Doodle, much like the scarlet ibis, left the family in awe. After
Doodle s many accomplishments, their family could not believe what they had just seen. The author
tied these characters together to symbolize the strive for success Doodle wished to achieve. The scarlet
ibis had died almost immediately died after the family had seen it. James Hurst symbolized the two
characters by showing their similarities. Even though Doodle had lived to be at least 6, that is not a
long, fully lived life. As soon as Doodle started to overcome adversity, he died. Both of their deaths
were after a challenge was put upon them. The bird had fluttered to the ground after leaping off the
branch and never catching flight; Doodle was attempting to keep up with his brother when he fell.
Both were found under a tree, dead, without a chance of help. Symbolism, in this story, is effective

Essay on Liberal Democracy
Liberal Democracy Liberal democracy, with a capitalist economy, is the only form of social
organization that will work in this world. Socialism and Communism appear to be sound in theory, but
would never come close to achieving what capitalism does. Liberal democracy and capitalism allow
for a beneficial competition where communism does not. This competition, in the liberal tradition, on
both political and economical levels, allows for the best balance of security and freedom to the people
under the government. However, this liberal tradition does not take care of every problem, but it does
a better job than any alternative. Competition is a necessity in this world. A more competitive market
allows for a more functional ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
All of the market is voluntary, no coercion. Milton Friedman explains, Political freedom means the
absence of coercion of a man by his fellow man. There would be people trading with other people
only when they themselves benefit from the situation. This way people have the choice on how much
to trade, or to even trade at all. Everyone can benefit from a competitive market. Friedman explains,
By removing the organization of economic activity from the control of political authority, the market
eliminates this source of coercive power. It enables economic strength to be a check to political power
rather than a reinforcement. Without this sense of being forced into situations, people are a lot happier.
When people are voluntarily participating in the free market, then the government makes money
consequently. The competitive free market takes some responsibilities from the government, so the
government can run better. A more competitive free market allows for the government to function
more smoothly. Political competition is needed in order to achieve a balance between liberty and
security. Free elections are the best way to elect the most worthy individual and to keep up
competition in politics. Having senators run for elections and compete for the people s vote, rather
then a select few deciding who is elected ensures liberty for the people. One of the most important
rights an American has today is the

The Y2k Hysteria By Richard Landes
This phrase and the belief that the world was formed in 6 days with a 7th for rest, gave the early
Christians a view that the world would last for 6000 years. According to scriptures the world had a
beginning, it had a now in which they were living and a promised end. This end was proclaimed in the
Olivet discourse (Matthew 24, Luke 21, Mark 13), but with warnings that none on Earth would know
when. The Y2K hysteria caused many scholar to wonder how the millennial dates past where thought
of by those that lived in that time.
This essay is a discussion on whether merging of dates with the idea of six millennia (1000 year)
periods was just an intellectual exercise or directly gave rise to apocalyptic thought. Richard Landes

This was part of the problem chronologists had in merging dates systems.
Landes diagram showing the various chronological systems, that highlights when they hit the 6th
Millennium. Note: the vertical dotted lines, of the changing a date system to avert the dangerous
millennium. From this it seems obvious that the church fathers of Augustine and later Boniface must
have made the decision to change dating to avoid the Millennium fever. But that is not quite the full
picture. It does not consider the intervening centuries of learning, translation and scholarship creating
better methods of calculations. Figure 1 chronographical shifts and apocalyptic target dates.
The study of chronology has been a pursuit of many a scholar over the ages. We should note that it
was not just early Christians who were interested in this. Rabbi Yossi ben Halafta, a 2nd century
scholar, calculated the beginning date of the Hebrew calendar from when Adam Eve were created
(Year 1 of Jewish calendar) which (adjusted for modern calendar) was October 7, 3761BC. . The old
Testament part of the Bible was a collection of the religious writings from Jewish Torah, giving a
chronology from Genesis to well before the Coming of Jesus. Various

Ict Uses And Applications Of Ict
ICT USES AND APPLICATIONS 1. How a student and individual can maintain effective
communication with his tutor during studies using ICT.
To enhance academic performance a regular meeting between the tutor and his student is important, as
it helps the teacher to know the student s area of weakness and tackle it accordingly. To ensure that
there is a constant meeting between the teacher and his students, ICT as a tool of communication is
sometimes used to complement or supplement physical meeting as in the case on online learning As
mobile communication technologies enable seamless interaction between people and integrate the
global network (Arminen, 2007). Evidently, there are various kinds of technological communication
tools available, however the ones highlighted here under are the most learning friendly
communication tools i.e. the ones that supports education mostly. These are termed ICT Education
tools enablers and they are:
E mail Messaging: this is an asynchronous system of messaging, unlike the text message email
message allows for a complete details of a subject matter. A student can reach his teacher at any time
by using the email messaging. Consequently, emails help in reducing the cost of transportation by a
student to a meeting with his teacher. A teacher can send a detailed, photographic summary of his
lecture to a student for studies, while allowing room for the student to get back to him if he has any
question through the same means. It would be very

Johnny Cash Research Paper
Johnny Cash, born J.R. Cash, was one of seven children born to parents Ray and Carrie Cash in
Kingsland, Arkansas on February 26, 1932. The Cash family was a farming family, hit hard by the
Depression of the 1930 s. They spent a majority of their time farming to make money, and when there
was little to no work left to be done, the family would relocate. When Cash was two, the family was
chosen by the government to move to Dyess, Arkansas to grow cotton as a part of a limited
community working towards economic recovery. The family attended the communities Baptist chapel
every Sunday, which developed Cash into an inspiring Christian. At the age of twelve, his best friend
and brother, Jack, was killed in a table saw accident while working at an agricultural shop. The death
of his brother along with all of the negativity he felt in Dyess made him search for an escape. He
began to take long walks at night while humming music, and he decided music would take him
through all of his dark places. Cash attended Dyess High School, and after graduating, he hitchhiked
to Pontiac, Michigan to take a job at an automobile constructing plant. He hated it and returned home
a few weeks later, when his family decided to pack up and leave Dyess. It was then that he decided to
enlist in the United States Air Force, and he would ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

throughout his life, and how he overcame them. Some of Cash s elated and uplifting life experiences
were shown during the movie, but a majority of them were unfavorable, giving Cash a poor
reputation. It s main focus was on his drug addiction: how it began, how it worsened, and how it
ended. While it was unquestionably true that Cash had a severe drug addiction, Walk the Line failed to
expose the ways in which he influenced his fans and peers in a remarkable and memorable

Essay On First Amendment Rights
First Amendment rights are like an antique; they have been around for a while, and people will
treasure them for years to come. Americans have valued First Amendment rights since the constitution
was written, and still do to this day. As well as valuing them, Americans are also willing to fight for
their rights; whether it is by going to court, picketing, or protesting. As a result of this willingness to
fight, we have seen many court cases and protests about First Amendment rights, and will likely
continue to see these for a long time.
When you hear the phrase The First Amendment, what do you think of? Most people would answer
with freedom of speech. According to the First Amendment Center, The majority of people [who were
surveyed] named ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Many recent court cases have emerged involving people fighting for these rights, including some
controversial ones. For example, the ruling of the Snyder v. Phelps case has been debated over by
many, and most agree with the dissenting opinion of the court. Snyder v. Phelps questioned whether
members of the Westboro Baptist Church were allowed to hold up rude and offensive signs near a
fallen soldier s funeral. The court ruled that while it was offensive, the Westboro Baptist Church were
allowed to picket the funeral because it was a subject of general interest and of value and concern to
the public (casebriefsummary.org). The family of the soldier was upset with this ruling, because they
felt it was unfair. However, the First Amendment protects acts that may be considered offensive.
Similarly, there was another recent case that had to do with picketing and protesting. This case was
called Matter of Waller v New York, which involved the protesters of the Occupy Wall Street
Movement. However, this case, like the Hazelwood case, is an example of First Amendment rights
being limited. The court ruled that the protesters were not protected under the First Amendment in this
case, because they could be compromising the health and safety of those in Zuccotti Park. Another
recent mention of First Amendment rights came from President Barack

Dbq Missouri Compromise
At first, the Compromise seemed to settle the issue; however, the alarming issue arose again when
Mexico ceded new territory to the Union. Differences between the views of the North and South led to
a deeper divide that eventually led to the Civil War. The Missouri controversy, an extremely heated
crisis between the North and South over slavery in the Louisiana territory, reached to new heights
almost as great as the time of secession in 1860. This huge debate showed just how slavery divided the
nation (Forbes). Many people knew the consequences of banning slavery, so they kept the Missouri
Compromise in place. Politicians dealt with the troubling issue carefully because it potentially could
separate the Union, and everyone knew the South would ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Tensions about what congress would do about slavery in the new territories increased rapidly. Lincoln,
during his presidency, explains the difference between anti and pro slavery people. He explains that
the selfish nature of man allows him to go towards slavery, but man s nature to be just and right allows
him to oppose slavery (Lincoln). Wilmot tried to pass a law called the Wilmot proviso, a law
forbidding slavery in the new territories ceded by Mexico. A wild debate over this law ensued between
the North and South (Remini). One congressman said that the House sounded like a bomb went off
because of all of the excitement in the room at the same time (Remini). Aggravated politicians got him
out of the House of Representatives for his radical law. Problems increased when California and New
Mexico wanted to enter the union, but California chose to enter the Union alone due to its increased
population. Henry Clay decided to step in and work his magic. Then he created the Compromise of
1850, which allowed the state to choose whether they will enter as a slave or free state, an idea known
as popular sovereignty (Remini). California entered as a free state, but the other territories from the
Mexican cession were allowed to choose. This new Compromise worked for the Mexican cession
territory, but the Louisiana territory still remained under the control of the Missouri Compromise.
After the repeal of the Missouri Compromise, violence between the North and the South ensued. In
1854, Congress passed the Kansas Nebraska Act of 1854, which repealed the Missouri Compromise
(McGill). This Act established popular sovereignty for all of the territories that want to achieve
statehood. Nebraska would enter as a free state. Kansas still wavered back and forth, on whether it
should enter as a slave or free state. Settlers from both the North and South came to live in Kansas.

Use Of Diction And Its Effects On Adult Men With Erectile...
Sildenafil, or more commonly known as VIAGRA, is a medication that is geared towards adult men
with erectile dysfunction, abbreviated ED (Medicines EMC). It is stated that about 30 million men in
the United States suffer from ED (Viagra). In Viagra commercials and advertisements, blunt diction is
utilized to highlight the common insecurities of men, which creates this idea that in order to fulfill one
s manliness, then an individual would have to take Viagra. In this particular advertisement, I noticed
key ploys to entice a man suffering from ED to take Viagra as a means by using a bold selection of
diction, a paradise getaway background seen from a cabana, and an inviting, seductive woman.
In the advertisement, the audience may first notice the blue text in the upper left corner that reads,
Gentlemen: VIAGRA helps guys with ED get and keep an erection. The text is light blue, which is the
same color as the pill, to indicate that this product is targeted towards males. The use of diction in this
advertisement is straight forward with strong connotation. It blatantly states what the product does.
This could instill the idea that the product is confident and a guaranteed investment, thus making the
consumer believe that it may help with his sex life. Viagra may also be intentionally bolded as a
connection to what the product is intended to do. The text looks bigger and bolder and the product s
purpose is to make a male suffering from ED to become bigger and bolder. This

The Elixir Of Life In The Alchemist
Personal Legend, a genuine desire that comes from the Soul of the Universe. Remember when all you
wanted to do when you were younger was be a musician? Or a football player? Or a doctor? As
children, we all know our Personal Legends, but as we grow older we shy away from our desires
because they soon become impossible to reach or unrealistic . In The Alchemist every adventure,
quest, and obstacle Santiago had to overcome was all a part of him realizing his Personal Legend.
Early in the book Santiago encounters Melchizedek, the old king, who explains to him, In the long run
what people think about shepherds and bakers becomes more important for them than their own
personal legends. This had helped Santiago realize that instead of concerning ... Show more content on

It cures all diseases and ensures a long, prosperous life when consumed. When Santiago and the
alchemist were traveling through the desert, the alchemist carried some in a flask along with the
second component of the Master Work, the Philosophers Stone. As the pair continued on their journey
through the desert they were soon confronted by three tribesman who insisted on searching them.
When the tribesman found the Philosophers Stone and the Elixir of Life they asked the alchemist what
the items were and he responded announcing, That s the Philosopher s Stone and the Elixir of Life. It s
the Master Work of the alchemists. Whoever swallows that elixir will never be sick again, and a
fragment from that stone turns any metal into gold. After hearing the alchemist s explanation, the
tribesman laughed, amused with his answer, while the calm alchemist joined along. Finally they let
Santiago and the alchemist proceed on their journey, unharmed. Shortly after, Santiago questioned the
alchemist s sanity, bewildered at him telling the truth of his treasures to the tribesman. He told
Santiago that he did it to teach him a life lesson, the life lesson being that, When you possess great
treasures within you, and try to tell others about them, seldom are you believed. I think it s
understandably unbelievable to have such powerful instruments because in the eyes of many, you have
to appear to be a person of class or higher power. I mean, how believable could it possibly be that two
average looking travelers carry such riches that people all over the world have struggled to attain for
centuries? In addition to this, the Elixir of Life is something that people could get selfish with and use
greedily. To me, the Elixir of Life is similar to power. I always hear stories on the news of power
plays, bribing, and etc. People will so easily use their power for wrong more than for good. We are

  • 2. Man For All Seasons Corruption The play in A Man for All Seasons, written by Robert Holt in the 1960s, retells the story of King Henry the VIII, his separation from the Church, and how his chancellor Thomas More resisted all attempts from the King to make him approve of the action. This story confirms that management of political power corrupts the minds and hearts of groups and individuals, such as Cromwell and King Henry VIII, but for some, such as Thomas More, it teaches them the importance of integrity and remaining faithful to one s own truths. While political power itself is not evil, it is still an effective tool to achieve ambitions and aspirations good or bad. This quality of power tends to easily break down and dissolve the moral strengths and good will of any ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... (Chagrined) So you give it away, of course. (pg. 8) Because of his constant cultivation of character and regular remembrance of principles, More was strong enough to withstand the corruption of power. Even with his life threatened, he never allowed himself to waver. More still clearly saw the principles of truth and integrity and realized the value of it. He silently but resolutely resisted the King s attempts to break him, until his death Power itself is not evil, and never has been. It s only a tool. But there are temptations of power; temptations of absolute control, fame, and gain. People stumble underneath the pressure of these enticements, because their character and moral strength are not established enough. People like this, like Master Rich, are so eager to achieve that fame or absolute control, that they willingly relinquish their better judgement and good character. Often this happens through other men of corruption and carnal desires. But, even among hosts of weak and stumbling men, Thomas More remains steadfast to his beliefs and principles, valuing integrity and wisdom far higher than fame and popularity. • 5. The Enlightenment Period Americans in the Enlightenment period strongly connected themselves with the classical age in terms of how they approached their art. The Enlightenment period lasted for about 150 years, from approximately 1700 1850. Throughout this time period many artists took inspiration from the classical age which occurred in ancient Greece and Rome hundreds of years before. We can see examples of this in buildings like The White house and Monticello in America, and Kedleston Hall in England. These three buildings, though located in very different parts of the world, all have a number of aestheticly similar attributes. The Enlightenment age was very much an intellectual movement that grew from interrelating the theories of science, the environment and the human race (Enlightenment, 2015, para 1). The origins of this movement came from ideas that date back to the Renaissance period in the 14th century. Science became a big part of this period as people now did not just rely on the bible, they began to be inquisitive about the world around them, thus the dividing of science and religion occurred. Scientists began to ask questions about the environment around them, soon people wanted proof and reasoning, not just thoughts and ideas. Another successful idea of that time was that philosophers began to rethink the role of God and the effects on human life. People still believed in God, but the significance of religion and the role that God played in peoples daily life was not as ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The paranoia and hysteria inherent to this period led to discrimination of Communists. Joseph McCarthy was a main player in this Red Scare, which was sometimes called the Witch Hunts in Washington. He was a Wisconsin senator who made claims against those whom he suspected of being Communists or Communist sympathizers. Joseph McCarthy was born in a small town in Wisconsin on November 15, 1908. It arose largely due to widespread fear of the Communistic Soviet Union, but also due to strong opposition to Truman s New Deal, mostly by conservative Republicans who equated the Deal s labor unions and social programs to Communism ( The Second ). McCarthy began his hearings in order to identify what he believed was a Communist conspiracy, and stop the supposed Communist infiltration into the government. He has often been criticized for the methods he used in these hearings. For example, his executive sessions, a term which usually was synonymous with closed, were, as John G. This mechanism essentially function by first initiation step in which the halogenated molecule splits into two halogenated radicals which is followed by the formation of a hydrocarbon radical. The next step of the radical mechanism, propagation, involves the hydrocarbon molecule reaction with a halogenated molecule, thus producing a hydrocarbon halogen (R X) compound, and more halogenation molecule thus allowing the reaction to continue on to completion. A control mechanism will allow for the prediction of what product will be obtained from a radical reaction. If random chance of the halogen ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This is once again due the reasoning stated earlier, as in terms of hydrogen reactivity: benzene aromatic ~ aliphatic tertiary secondary primary. This is based on the reasoning in Hammond s Postulates that the more stable radical will have a smaller rate determining step and the transition state will resemble the products more so, thus indicating why it can be considered more stable. The actual order observed was methylcyclohexane ethylbenzene toluene tert butylbenzene ~ cyclohexane. This was not the predicted order as methylcyclohexane should have reacted third fastest instead of reacting first as observed, however, excluding the error of methylcyclohexane the rest of the prediction seem to line up with the observed results. Since methylcyclohexane was the only contributor to the misalignment with the predicted and observed indicates that some sort of error occurred in the process of carrying out the reaction. The source of error is most likely due to the possibility that methylcyclohexane had the bromine added to it a few seconds prior to being set down and timed for a reaction. The reasoning behind this is because methylcyclohexane should react fast, however, should still be slower than ethylbenzne and toluene. Another source of error that was likely a major contributor was the amount of each compound present in the test tube. If too much of the arene was added to the test tube a the reaction time will likely be noticeably slower as there will b more product to brominate. Therefore, it is possible that the methylcyclohexane test tube (#13) had too little of methylcyclohexane in it. The toluene reaction time at 15 seconds also indicates that this test tube possibly had too much toluene placed in it, thus leading to a slower observed reaction time. Therefore, it is unlikely that the initial prediction was wrong due to the reactivity of the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

While this example does still hold true, this is no longer the only company benefit. Estimates for providing office space for the typical knowledge worker run as high as $10,000 or more annually.(Wainhouse, Greenberg Nillsen: Telework and the U.S. Federal Government: At the Tipping Point 2008) To further illustrate the extent to which telecommuting can be utilized, a local Casper branch of Energy Laboratories initiated telecommuting for lab analysts in 2008 to facilitate reporting of failures after hours. It is only those who have neither fired a shot nor heard the shrieks and groans of the wounded who cry aloud for blood, for vengeance, for desolation. War is hell. This statement is self explanatory; the nature of war is reckless. Yes, when experiencing war, some soldiers may come across gratifying sounds of larks, song birds, which remind them of ebullient moments. Nevertheless, is brutally fighting really worth that? Roughly ten million soldiers lost their lives in World War I, along with seven million civilians; also, many soldiers experienced shell shock, which is a psychological disturbance caused by war. As a result of the heinous and atrocious experiences that many were put through, this inspired many poets to record their remembrances. Although war may bring memories of happiness because of the pleasing sounds, war should be considered a crime regardless of how necessary or justified it seems because war leads to mental anguish due to the memories of physical pain, soldiers being frightened because of unexpected occurrences and ferocious deaths. In the poem Mental Cases by Wilfred Owen, Owen describes in stark detail the ghastly physical symptoms and memories that led to long lasting mental torment. A few months before Owen was killed in action in 1918, he wrote this poem that appears to draw heavily on his own experience of being a mental case at Craiglockhart War Hospital in Edinburgh where ... It starts from the premise that conventional methods of influencing policy are flawed and that more visible and direct protests, perhaps even involving civil disobedience, illegal methods or violence, may offer the best opportunity of success because they attract media attention, raise public awareness and force politicians to sit up and listen. Although many feel that direction action techniques provide the most immediate way of articulating their views and achieving tangible results, critics argue that the rise in single issue, direct action politics undermines our system of representative democracy. This is because such campaigns prevent governments from implementing their programmes and from pursuing policies that address the bigger picture. The scope and scale of direct action campaigns has increased significantly since the 1990s. The anti roads protests of recent years, the campaign against live animal exports, the campaigns against fox hunting and vivisection, the fuel protests and the campaigns by groups such as Fathers4Justice and environmental groups such as Greenpeace and Plane Stupid have al been seen to have had some effect on policy or opinion. The real cost is probably more than you realise. That s because our addiction to plastic is responsible for one of the worst ecological disasters of the modern age: the build up of plastic in the world s oceans. Environmental activists have been warning of this ticking bomb for years and governments around the world are now starting to act. But there are also things that we can all do at home and in our lives to reduce the damage. THE FACTS The amount of plastic produced worldwide is estimated to be around 300 million tonnes each year and between 1.5 and 4.5 per cent of that ends up in the ocean. Were it all to wash up on shore, it would cover every foot of coastline in the world. As a result, the ratio of plastic to plankton in the Mediterranean is thought to be about 1:2, one in three species of marine mammals have been found entangled in litter, fish in the North Pacific ingest about 12 to 24 thousand tonnes of plastic every year, and tiny fragments of plastic have even been found in the arctic ice shelf. Each one of these facts is shocking in its own right, and a tarnish on the human race. MISCONCEPTIONS It is easy to imagine that you don t contribute to plastic in the ocean. All the plastic you use goes into the bin and that is dealt with by the council, who surely don t put it in the ocean. But the truth is that around 80 per cent of rubbish that ends up in the ... Success or otherwise of an organization in retaining its employee s is measured in terms of Employee Retention Rate (ERR) or through assessment of the Employee Turnover Rate (ETR). • 35. The Invention Of The World Wide Web The present society of today embodies a distinct shape, organization, role, and feel from the societies of a millennium ago, a century ago, or even a decade ago. These metamorphoses are, in part, caused by the multiple technological revolutions that our society has experienced throughout its history. Each time a technological revolution occurs when a novel technology is introduced to build upon or succeed an older one the entire society (and the individuals that comprise it) changes. However, as Marshall McLuhan suggested within the printed pages of Understanding Media: The Extensions of Man, the medium is the message (McLuhan 1964). In other words, these shifts are not as much the direct result of the invention s content or it s use, as they are the outcomes of effects that are intrinsic within the technology itself. Although McLuhan published this work in 1964, almost thirty years before the invention of the World Wide Web, this adage still holds true for the Internet today. Technologies, such as the Internet, should not be viewed, using the instrumentalist perspective, as inherently neutral tools that are valuable only for their ends, intended purposes, or practical benefits (Ellul, Wilkinson, and Merton 1964, Carr 2010, 45). Rather, the means themselves, or what McLuhan would consider the medium, should also be recognized as carrying messages that hold powerful, unintended consequences for society (Ellul, Wilkinson, and Merton 1964, McLuhan 1964). This competition, in the liberal tradition, on both political and economical levels, allows for the best balance of security and freedom to the people under the government. Everyone can benefit from a competitive market. Friedman explains, By removing the organization of economic activity from the control of political authority, the market eliminates this source of coercive power. It enables economic strength to be a check to political power rather than a reinforcement. Without this sense of being forced into situations, people are a lot happier. When people are voluntarily participating in the free market, then the government makes money consequently. The competitive free market takes some responsibilities from the government, so the government can run better. A more competitive free market allows for the government to function more smoothly. The Cash family was a farming family, hit hard by the Depression of the 1930 s. They spent a majority of their time farming to make money, and when there was little to no work left to be done, the family would relocate. When Cash was two, the family was chosen by the government to move to Dyess, Arkansas to grow cotton as a part of a limited community working towards economic recovery. The family attended the communities Baptist chapel every Sunday, which developed Cash into an inspiring Christian. At the age of twelve, his best friend and brother, Jack, was killed in a table saw accident while working at an agricultural shop. The death of his brother along with all of the negativity he felt in Dyess made him search for an escape. He began to take long walks at night while humming music, and he decided music would take him through all of his dark places. Cash attended Dyess High School, and after graduating, he hitchhiked to Pontiac, Michigan to take a job at an automobile constructing plant. He hated it and returned home a few weeks later, when his family decided to pack up and leave Dyess. It was then that he decided to enlist in the United States Air Force, and he would ... Some of Cash s elated and uplifting life experiences were shown during the movie, but a majority of them were unfavorable, giving Cash a poor reputation. It s main focus was on his drug addiction: how it began, how it worsened, and how it ended. • 42. Essay On First Amendment Rights First Amendment rights are like an antique; they have been around for a while, and people will treasure them for years to come. Americans have valued First Amendment rights since the constitution was written, and still do to this day. As well as valuing them, Americans are also willing to fight for their rights; whether it is by going to court, picketing, or protesting. As a result of this willingness to fight, we have seen many court cases and protests about First Amendment rights, and will likely continue to see these for a long time. When you hear the phrase The First Amendment, what do you think of? Most people would answer with freedom of speech. According to the First Amendment Center, The majority of people [who were surveyed] named ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Many recent court cases have emerged involving people fighting for these rights, including some controversial ones. For example, the ruling of the Snyder v. Phelps case has been debated over by many, and most agree with the dissenting opinion of the court. Snyder v. Phelps questioned whether members of the Westboro Baptist Church were allowed to hold up rude and offensive signs near a fallen soldier s funeral. The court ruled that while it was offensive, the Westboro Baptist Church were allowed to picket the funeral because it was a subject of general interest and of value and concern to the public (casebriefsummary.org). The family of the soldier was upset with this ruling, because they felt it was unfair. However, the First Amendment protects acts that may be considered offensive. Similarly, there was another recent case that had to do with picketing and protesting. This case was called Matter of Waller v New York, which involved the protesters of the Occupy Wall Street Movement. However, this case, like the Hazelwood case, is an example of First Amendment rights being limited. The court ruled that the protesters were not protected under the First Amendment in this case, because they could be compromising the health and safety of those in Zuccotti Park. Another recent mention of First Amendment rights came from President Barack ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 43. Dbq Missouri Compromise At first, the Compromise seemed to settle the issue; however, the alarming issue arose again when Mexico ceded new territory to the Union. Differences between the views of the North and South led to a deeper divide that eventually led to the Civil War. The Missouri controversy, an extremely heated crisis between the North and South over slavery in the Louisiana territory, reached to new heights almost as great as the time of secession in 1860. This huge debate showed just how slavery divided the nation (Forbes). Many people knew the consequences of banning slavery, so they kept the Missouri Compromise in place. Politicians dealt with the troubling issue carefully because it potentially could separate the Union, and everyone knew the South would ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Tensions about what congress would do about slavery in the new territories increased rapidly. Lincoln, during his presidency, explains the difference between anti and pro slavery people. He explains that the selfish nature of man allows him to go towards slavery, but man s nature to be just and right allows him to oppose slavery (Lincoln). Wilmot tried to pass a law called the Wilmot proviso, a law forbidding slavery in the new territories ceded by Mexico. A wild debate over this law ensued between the North and South (Remini). One congressman said that the House sounded like a bomb went off because of all of the excitement in the room at the same time (Remini). Aggravated politicians got him out of the House of Representatives for his radical law. Problems increased when California and New Mexico wanted to enter the union, but California chose to enter the Union alone due to its increased population. Henry Clay decided to step in and work his magic. Then he created the Compromise of 1850, which allowed the state to choose whether they will enter as a slave or free state, an idea known as popular sovereignty (Remini). California entered as a free state, but the other territories from the Mexican cession were allowed to choose. This new Compromise worked for the Mexican cession territory, but the Louisiana territory still remained under the control of the Missouri Compromise. After the repeal of the Missouri Compromise, violence between the North and the South ensued. In 1854, Congress passed the Kansas Nebraska Act of 1854, which repealed the Missouri Compromise (McGill). This Act established popular sovereignty for all of the territories that want to achieve statehood. Nebraska would enter as a free state. Kansas still wavered back and forth, on whether it should enter as a slave or free state. Settlers from both the North and South came to live in Kansas. Northern anti slavery settlers ... • 44. Use Of Diction And Its Effects On Adult Men With Erectile... Sildenafil, or more commonly known as VIAGRA, is a medication that is geared towards adult men with erectile dysfunction, abbreviated ED (Medicines EMC). It is stated that about 30 million men in the United States suffer from ED (Viagra). In Viagra commercials and advertisements, blunt diction is utilized to highlight the common insecurities of men, which creates this idea that in order to fulfill one s manliness, then an individual would have to take Viagra. In this particular advertisement, I noticed key ploys to entice a man suffering from ED to take Viagra as a means by using a bold selection of diction, a paradise getaway background seen from a cabana, and an inviting, seductive woman. In the advertisement, the audience may first notice the blue text in the upper left corner that reads, Gentlemen: VIAGRA helps guys with ED get and keep an erection. The text is light blue, which is the same color as the pill, to indicate that this product is targeted towards males. The use of diction in this advertisement is straight forward with strong connotation. It blatantly states what the product does. This could instill the idea that the product is confident and a guaranteed investment, thus making the consumer believe that it may help with his sex life. Viagra may also be intentionally bolded as a connection to what the product is intended to do. The text looks bigger and bolder and the product s purpose is to make a male suffering from ED to become bigger and bolder. This ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 45. The Elixir Of Life In The Alchemist Personal Legend, a genuine desire that comes from the Soul of the Universe. Remember when all you wanted to do when you were younger was be a musician? Or a football player? Or a doctor? As children, we all know our Personal Legends, but as we grow older we shy away from our desires because they soon become impossible to reach or unrealistic . In The Alchemist every adventure, quest, and obstacle Santiago had to overcome was all a part of him realizing his Personal Legend. Early in the book Santiago encounters Melchizedek, the old king, who explains to him, In the long run what people think about shepherds and bakers becomes more important for them than their own personal legends. When Santiago and the alchemist were traveling through the desert, the alchemist carried some in a flask along with the second component of the Master Work, the Philosophers Stone. As the pair continued on their journey through the desert they were soon confronted by three tribesman who insisted on searching them. When the tribesman found the Philosophers Stone and the Elixir of Life they asked the alchemist what the items were and he responded announcing, That s the Philosopher s Stone and the Elixir of Life. It s the Master Work of the alchemists. Whoever swallows that elixir will never be sick again, and a fragment from that stone turns any metal into gold. After hearing the alchemist s explanation, the tribesman laughed, amused with his answer, while the calm alchemist joined along. Finally they let Santiago and the alchemist proceed on their journey, unharmed. Shortly after, Santiago questioned the alchemist s sanity, bewildered at him telling the truth of his treasures to the tribesman. He told Santiago that he did it to teach him a life lesson, the life lesson being that, When you possess great treasures within you, and try to tell others about them, seldom are you believed. I think it s understandably unbelievable to have such powerful instruments because in the eyes of many, you have to appear to be a person of class or higher power. I mean, how believable could it possibly be that two average looking travelers carry such riches that people all over the world have struggled to attain for centuries? In addition to this, the Elixir of Life is something that people could get selfish with and use greedily. To me, the Elixir of Life is similar to power. I always hear stories on the news of power plays, bribing, and etc. People will so easily use their power for wrong more than for good. We are more ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
