My Visit On Chicago Military Academy At Bronzeville
My visit to Chicago Military Academy at Bronzeville provided an image that the school has been the
sight of perceived danger, yet the teachers, such as Mr. Frontera, remain because they care and believe
that they can make a difference in the lives of the students they teach. The morning I was attempting
to go visit the school got off to a rocky start that would somewhat predict the rest of the day. The
principal at Chicago Military Academy at Bronzeville asked me to visit with another class that started
forty minutes earlier than the class he had previously asked me to attend. After rushing through my
morning routine, I still managed to make it to the school ten minutes after the class started. Rather
than interrupt the class, I decided to go to the nearest McDonald s to sit and read until the next class
cycle. This was when I first noticed my surroundings. Though it was cold, there seemed to be a lot of
guys hanging around on the sidewalks. There were two fast food restaurants that I would not consider
healthy food choices. Once inside of McDonalds, I came to realize that I had sat down in the middle of
a drug transition. Essentially, there were men selling and doing drugs in the bathroom of the
McDonald s. I felt uncomfortable and decided it would be best to sit in the office of the school. Once I
arrived back at the school, I could not figure out how to access the building. I called the school,
expecting to be rudely guided into the school. However, like Steinberg et

Immobilized Metal Affinity Chromatography
Proteins with his tags are purified using IMAC, immobilized metal affinity chromatography. The
protein product interacts with a metal that is reversibly bound to an immobilized chelating group. The
immobolized chelating group acts as a Lewis base (electron pair donor) to which the Lewis acid
(electron pair acceptor) metal ion is coordinated. The support to which the metal ion binds is called a
ligand. When an electron donor group is replaced by another, the action is referred to as ligand
exchange. The donor atoms involved in this exchange are the electronegative nitrogen, sulfur, or
oxygen. These atoms scavenge for sources of electrons. The structure formed when the metal ions are
added to form the chelate result in free coordination ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In this paper I will refer to the immobilized Lewis base as the ligand. The combination of the metal
ion with the ligand will be referred to as the affinity ligand. IMAC can be performed employing ion
exchange resins as the ligand, but in the separation of proteins only chelating groups have been used
to fix the metal ion to the support. Schmuckler compared the binding energy of transition metal
cations with ordinary cation exchangers and with chelating groups. He found the chelating groups
binding energy to be 15 to 25 kcal/mol whereas the ordinary ion exchangers have a binding energy of
2 to 3 kcal/mol. (Nes, 1999) This characteristic has led to chelating groups as the ligand of choice in
IMAC. The chelating groups used in IMAC are multidentate chelating compounds providing the
strength of the complex formed by the protein, metal ion and chelating group. Free coordination sites
in the metal ion must be present in the structure formed after the metal ion is chelated by the chelating
group to allow for the adsorption or binding of solvent molecules or proteins. (Sulkowski, 1985)
Differences in the number of free coordination sites plays a part in the selectivity of chelating
substances for a target protein.
Commonly used metal chelating substances include iminodiacetic acid (IDA) and nitriloacetic

Why The Military Draft Should Be Reinstated
Why The Military Draft Should Be Reinstated
I think we ought to have a draft. I think if a nation goes to war, it shouldn t be represented by a
professional force because it gets to be unrepresentative of the population . . . . (Fayette, par. 2). Those
are the words of General Stanley McChrystal, the former senior commander of international forces in
Afghanistan, speaking of his stance on whether the United States should bring back the draft. The
American public has become disconnected from the military. The time has come to do something
about this; it is time to reinstate the draft. There are three reasons why the draft should be reinstated.
The costs of military personnel have soared in recent years, it would make elected officials think twice
before sending troops overseas since there will be a larger pool of draftees it would create a melting
pot of backgrounds. Although there are those who condemn the draft, they miss the point entirely.
Without question, the draft should be reinstated immediately.
President Franklin Roosevelt signed the Selective Training and Service Act of 1940 which established
the Selective Service System as an independent Federal agency within the Department of Defense
(Smith, par. 3). Young men were only drafted in America s greatest conflicts the Civil War, Vietnam
War, World War I, and the lead up to World War II (Bandow, par. 3). Nearly 2.2 million men were
drafted during 1961 to 1973 (South, par. 25). This practice continued during the Cold War as the U.S.
sought to protect friendly war ravaged states (Bandow, par. 3). From 1948 until 1973, young men were
drafted to fill open spots in the armed forces which could not be filled through voluntary means
(Smith, par. 4). The registration requirement was suspended in 1975 but it was resumed again in 1980,
registration continues today as a hedge against underestimating the number of servicemen needed in a
future crisis (Smith, par. 10). In 1973, the United States military went to full volunteer service that
marked the end of the draft. Since the all volunteer military has been active, there have been 144
executed operations compared to 19 operations prior to 1973 (South, par. 56). Currently, there have
been talks of reinstating

Essay on Major Impacts of the American Revolution
The American Revolution was a war fought between Great Britain and the American colonies over
independence from 1775 to 1783 which resulted in a fundamental change in American politics,
society, and economics. The American Revolution began as a result of Great Britain taxing the
colonies to cover the debts accumulated through the French and Indian War. While the majority of the
colonies stayed loyal to their Mother Land , some of the colonist felt resentment toward England.
Some colonist felt that England had no right to tax the colonies, while they had no representation in
parliament. This created a divide within in the colonies between those who were in favor of
independence Patriots, and those who were still loyal to the Crown ... Show more content on

Some of them were crying out for paper currency, some for an equal distribution of property. Another
debate that heated the colonies was the controversy over the future of agriculture in the colonies.
Many thought that America should change into being dependent on commercial manufacturing, while
others wanted to keep agriculture the main source of income. Document F shows the Medal of
Philadelphia Society for the Promotion of Agriculture. The symbolism in the medal is that Farming
could be symbolized as the nation looking on into the future, suggesting abundance, fertility, and
liberty. Socially, the War left many groups of people questioning their role in society. When the men
went off to fight the war, the women were left to run the businesses and assume the positions their
husbands left behind. Many women, such as Deborah Sampson and Molly Pitcher picked up their
rifles fought alongside the men in the war (Document A). After the war, the women were left
questioning their subordinate in society. Women were finding their worth, and slowly started to
demand more rights. In her valedictory address from the Young Ladies Academy of Philadelphia,
Molly Wallace discussed the educational opportunities women should be given stating But to what do
they amount? Do they not plainly inform us, because we are females, we ought

The Berlin Wall s Impact On Economic, Social And...
The Berlin wall had a highly significant impact on the economic, social and political relations between
West and East Europe. It stood from 1961 1989 as a physical reminder of that divide, a daily reminder
of the divide that still influences the nation today, and a physical barrier in which 138 East Germans
died trying to cross. So dire was the Berlin Wall that Heinrich Albertz, an aide to West Berlin Mayor,
compared it to as if; They are cutting up a city, cutting into living flesh without anesthesia . Thus it can
be observed that so high was its importance, that only after the Berlin wall was abolished in that the
cold war was finally coming to an end and so traumatising was its presence that Berlin has yet to fully
recover.
In order to come to a conclusion about the impact of the Berlin wall, one must first understand the
context of which it came to be. At the end of the second world war, the disintegration of German
central authority allowed allied powers to take control of Germany. During the February of 1945, the
allied victors held the Yalta conference, a committee focused on the dismemberment of Germany, in
order to come to a conclusion on the current German question . This can be regarded as the defining
moment of which the division between East and West Europe became apparent. As victors struggled
with their losses and the defeated nations lost international favor, the Soviet Union and USA began a
power struggle to become the new global powerhouse. The Potsdam

someone can complete. The film industry is a true art form, and the appreciation for the industry from

There is no doubt about this. But, it is the ways that make these filmmakers some of the greatest of all
time. Ford uses optimism in his films; he represents the struggles in real life situations, like he does in
?Grapes of Wrath?, even though the film is based off of a book. This is a way for him that he can
connect to the audience. He directed many war films, and they were authentic because he was in the
war and he saw what happened in many different areas. For Spielberg, he believed in extraordinary
circumstances, which is why he directed many movies about dinosaurs and aliens. But, in these
movies, symbolism is portrayed because it asks if there is other life out there. This is what makes it
enticing to the audience. Both of these men are some of the greatest of all time and they are both very

Alexander Graham Bell, a man who best known for inventing the telephone. Most people don t know
he spent the majority of his life teaching and helping the deaf. Educating the hearing impaired is what
he wished to be remembered for.
Bell was born on March 3, 1847, in Edinburgh, Scotland. His mother was a painter of miniature
portraits and also loved to play the piano even though she was nearly deaf. Aleck s mother knew that
he had a talent for music and always encouraged him to play (Matthews 12). Alexander Melville Bell,

To make sure that the student knew what part of the head the teacher was talking about, the teacher
would point to a particular part of the diagram and have the student touch that part of themselves.
When the diagram was up on the black board there were also darkened symbols on certain parts such
as the tip of nose, upper and lower lip etc. The next step was to erase all other lines and have the
student do the same procedure as before but this time they had to know where all the symbols were.
The purpose for learning all of these symbols was so that the teacher would be able to get into more
detailed diagrams and actually show the deaf student what part of the throat and mouth to move to
pronounce a particular sound (Bell 51 54).
Another way that he was able to teach his students was using the manometric, pressurized, capsule,
which enclosed a gas flame. The capsule worked when the vibrations of a voice acted on a membrane
that would expand the gas flame and result in a flickering like the teeth of a saw (Mackenzie 66). The
flickering would resemble the characteristics of a particular sound. The reason that Bell wanted to use
this device was to see if he could discover the shape or form of a vibration that was a characteristic of
the elements of English speech (Mackenzie 67). Then he could represent this information on paper for
the use of his deaf pupils. With this device he could have a pupil put his

How Music Is Used For Advertising
How Music is Used in Commercials
Now adays and before music is an important factor in media advertising.
As media is tool for advertising and it reaches to many users and customers music can play very
significant role.
And music serve the general promotion targets in business. Jingle music is very common technique
for aiding the ad.
Most of popular companies in globe are very succesfull because of using Jingle music in their ads.
A very good jingle attracts the consumer s attention and makes them think again and again regarding a
product, a bad jingle could make the company popular for the wrong reasons. [...] When [background
music is] used appropriately, [it] is the catalyst of advertising. It augments pictures and colors words,
and often adds a form of energy available through no other source. (Hecker 1984)
Music could get many responses out of people as its played.
Music could touch our emotions like it could calm us, excite us sadden us, soothe us.
There is also no doubt that we are quite the musical species (Sacks, 2007). Humans are able to
remember music they have heard for a lifetime, as well as the emotions it triggered. We are fully
capable of memorizing thousands, if not more, musical pieces in our life, including song elements
such as lyrics, melody, tempo, rhythm and even pitch. Over the centuries, humans have made music
everywhere and the music we play spans from the easiest simple melody on a piano to a complex
orchestra symphony with dozens of

Reflection Of Cooperative Learning
An important skill for students to develop in school is collaboration. During this course, I learned
more in depth knowledge about students working with others within a concept called cooperative
learning. Cooperative learning is one of three goal structures associated with motivation. The three
structures are cooperative, competitive, and individualistic. Though all three are used to motivate
students to achieve goals, I believe cooperative is the most ideal goal structure for student
development. Cooperative learning involves putting student in groups for a lesson and requiring all
students to succeed in order for any one individual to earn rewards. This strategy enforces individual
accountability for each child to complete their share ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As a future educator, I want my own students to have those same experiences that I have had and
cooperative learning is a perfect way to motivate the development of collaborative skills.
The fifth and final concept I found to be enlightening throughout the semester was the concept of
divergent thinking versus convergent thinking. Divergent thinking is a type of thinking, whose goal is
to come up with numerous unique and original ideas. One of the most common aspects of divergent
thinking is brainstorming. This is frequently used within school and many other domains in order to
come up with a large amount of ideas or topics at once. To contrast, convergent thinking is a type of
thinking that focuses on finding a specific answer. Convergent thinking is used for situations where
there is only one answer such as how many presidents there have been or how many states there are in
America. Divergent thinking is more often used for open ended questions or to come up with
completely new ideas. Divergent thinking is also a method of thinking that enhances student creativity.
When in the midst of divergent thinking, a person is supposed to defer their judgment of ideas until
later and create the most off the wall ideas possible. I especially enjoyed learning about divergent and
convergent thinking because I had not realized there were various types of thinking. I had believed
people could decide to be creative

Bright lights, colorful signs, and delicious smells, all are things that may be found in an ethnic
neighborhood. An ethnic neighborhood is a neighborhood, where the majority, if not all the population
is of the same belief, and follows the same religion. One of the most well known neighborhoods in
Chicago is Chinatown. Chinatown has many cultural traits that set it apart from neighboring areas;
however there is always a looming threat of internal and external threats to its culture. China town
possess many cultural traditions and customs. One major cultural trait is the color red. In Chinese

Although many of those stores had signs in Chinese, it doesn t change the effect the stores had on the
neighborhoods. While external threats are a looming danger, they are not the only threat. Internal
threats also can compromise the established local structure.
There are many internal threats prevalent as well. As people live life in the U.S, or experience other
culture, they may want to integrate the new culture into their own. One such example is with kids.
When kids go to school, they meet people of other cultures, and beliefs. Over time, they may think
that an aspect of their beliefs is better than their own. This can cause a recession in the local culture of
an area. Another internal threat is that of movement. As kids grow older they may get bored of their
surroundings and decide to move out. When people move, buildings generally become open for sale,
and often for low prices. These vacancies are enticing to many people who are seeking a home. This
can greatly disrupt a neighborhood, as suddenly what was previously a Chinese neighborhood, is now
half polish. One last example is with oriental Chinese food. Asian dishes are generally spicy, with
many herbs. People often change recipe to fit the American palette. Over time Chinese American may
come to enjoy the new Americanized flavor more.
Chinatown has many cultural traits that set it apart from neighboring areas; however there is

Legislators Should Do Longer Hours Essay
How can the legislators do their job, if the government is giving them limitations? In article 3 section
24 of the Texas Constitution it states members of the legislature shall receive from the public Treasury
a salary of $600 per month (Texas Constitution, 1876). Legislators are here to discuss and approve
laws. They should have the power and abilities to request an increase in their own salaries. There are
three reasons why I believe that legislators should get an increase in salary. First reason, demanding
lawmakers to work longer hours. Second reason, spending less time at home away from family and
friends. Lastly, putting career goals on hold. Legislators are making sacrifices every day to best serve
the people and they should in return ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Many legislators have unpredictable scheduling because things are not timely based when it comes to
passing the laws. They go through these long processes just to amend things that will best serve the
needs of society in the future. Lawmakers should not work longer hours unless there is an increase in
their pay for the extra time they are serving. That is the problem with this nation, people are selfish
and will not appreciate others for the hard work and dedication they set forward to make things
happen. Most legislators are demanded to work overtime because of the obsessive conservative people
wanting things perfect before moving on to another topic. The reason being that most legislators are
accepting the overtime is because they need the extra money to send back home, so they can still in
some way provide and support their families. At the same time they are working extra hours just to get
more work done to not get paid at all. If that s the case legislators would be better off working at a
restaurant for some extra money. When legislators are not working they need to accommodate for
another job. Ross Ramsey said, Texas legislators are paid less than the people who sack their
groceries. Apparently legislators do not get paid very well until after eight years of serving. At that
point they receive sweet benefits and is guaranteed

Operation and War Sustainment
Introduction War finds success and failures inescapably linked to how well Combined, Joint, and
Multinational Commander conducts sustainment planning and links the products to his strategic,
operational and tactical objectives. Operation OVERLORD provides an excellent case study as large
scale and complex example synchronizing, coordinating, and integrating the logistics capabilities of
the civilian industry, Joint and Coalition forces ultimately leading to the Defeat of Germany. The
purpose and definition of Joint Sustainment as well it s imperatives are described below in detail, as
well as the planning for Operation OVERLORD related to these imperatives.
Joint Sustainment, Imperatives, and Principles Joint Publication 3.0 entitled Joint Operations, defines
the Sustainment Function as the provision of logistics and personnel services necessary to maintain
and prolong operations through mission accomplishment and redeployment of the force. Joint
Publication 4 0 goes on further to say Effective joint logistics planning identifies future requirements
and proposes solutions; it requires joint logisticians to understand the commander s intent and concept
of operations (CONOPS). (JP 4 0 p. 57) Logisticians use seven principals in their planning whether at
the strategic, operational, or tactical level of war to ensure the operations are logistically supportable.
These principles are responsiveness, simplicity, flexibility, economy, attainability, sustainability, and

Impact Of Ww1 On Australian Society
IMPACTS OF WW1 ON AUSTRALIAN SOCIETY Almost a century has passed but Australia still
identifies strongly with the Anzac ‘legend that emerged during the First World War. Entering the war
as a small outpost of the British Empire, no one would have anticipated the courage and tenacity
displayed by the Australian troops or the extent to which their war efforts would become the
foundation of our national identity. While it lacked large numbers of troops to contribute to the British
war effort, Australia gave everything it had and this included primary produce and other vital supplies.
In fact, during the war years Government passed the War Precautions Act, which gave it the freedom
to make new laws more easily and thus focus the entire ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
So the war did allow many women opportunities (like clerks, nurses, working in factories and
industries) even though they were temporary. In human terms, the war had been a disaster for
Australia, as it was for all countries involved. About 65% of those who served overseas were killed or
wounded, the highest casualty rate among the allies. Thousands were hospitalised on their return to
Australia and some never left the rehabilitation hospitals. From a population of fewer than five
million, 300,000 men enlisted, of which over 60,000 were killed and 156,000 were wounded, gassed
or taken prisoner. Society was also left deeply scarred by the war. Living standards had fallen and
communities were divided over conscription issue. Many people never recovered from having lost a
family member or a friend. Other than the new laws made by the government, the war also provided
some positive outcomes. Although Australia had become a nation in 1901, it was really only the Great
War which gave everyone a strong sense of being an Australian. It had become a proud member of the
British Empire and through its ‘baptism of fire , had shown that it was able to stand on its own two
feet. By the time the war ended, in 1918, Australia had changed markedly as the naïve attitudes about
war were gone forever. After 1914, people were more cynical and disillusioned. The war had made a

Law Problems A Health Football Club Faced
This paper focuses on analyzing the a few questions about a series of law problems a Health Football
Club faced, those questions concern formation of contract, some remedies can be applied through
relevant law knowledge. In this case, it is essential to whether the action of HFC that inviting season
ticket holder to renew for next season is an offer or not. In some point of view, it should be an offer. it
can also be an invitation to treat without the certain term of price of £700 for all applications received
before May 5th , so the contract is legal binding automatically when offer accepted by offeree.
According to general law principle, an offer must be clear on certain terms and must be communicated
to the other party, a vague information the offeror given would be regarded as an invitation to treat and
mere buff or boast. Obviously and generally, a normal advertisement locally would be an invitation to
treat, which is not enforceable to be an offer such as case of Partridge v Crittenden(1968), but if there
are some specific set of terms in order to create legal relations, an offer can be found. See example of
Blackpool Fylde Aero Flying Club Ltd v Blackpool Borough Council(1990). The fact is Liam sent a
letter on April 28th, it takes long time than expected and received by HFC on May 7th, so HFC
terminated old offer with £700, and regard the acceptance as a one of an new offer with £850.
Nevertheless, it holds that Liam does not owe £175 to HFC. It stands to reason

The Decline of the West
The Decline of the West
In todays world we are getting more and more materialized. When being a kid in school it is all about
getting the newest phone, wearing the most expensive clothing and every other materialized thing, to
show off how much money we have. We measure our happiness in things, clothes, cars and so on. The
greed of getting more and new things is decreasing. Before the financial crises in 2008 every family
lent money to buy new things all the time. No worries were to be shown in any family, until the crack
happened. Nowadays the crisis has slowly turned around again and in school it s still about collecting
the newest items. In the short story from 2010 by Hanif Kureishi, the problem of greed and a

From this view the kids seems rather ungrateful and rude to their father and we don t see their side of
the story. It seems like everyone is against Mike and that no one is happy about Mike working hard to
delight his family. On the contrary it would look rather different if it had been from the wife or kids
point of view.
The title The Decline of the West can be a directly reference to the western worlds economic
problems. This theme is clear throughout the short story, where especially Mike thinks about his
choice of lifestyle that he and many others have had through many years. He considers whether the
financial crises can be the punishment for this: Like many people, Mike had also worried whether the
present catastrophe was punishment for years of extravagance and self indulgence. (p. 4, l. 86 87)
Another thing to notice about the short story is how values like love, closeness and indulgence is
nowhere to be found. And the title can therefore be related to moral degeneration, which Mike s
family is an example of. The title can be a critical comment on the western worlds excessive focus on
money at the expense of more important thing like family and Mike is actually thinking about the
Marxism prediction, which affects him personally: Since capitalism was cracking under the weight of
its contradictions as the Marxists has predicted ... they would have to find a

19,2014 Toronto Metro) This article is about the catastrophic backlog in the Toronto police
background checks for students who would like to enter the RCMP after they graduate. This is a big
problem for the students and for the RCMP. For the students it means that it will take longer for them
to get the job that they have studied for and will have to wait a while for them to pay off the debt. The
reason why this is a big problem for the RCMP is because they have to do a background check on
anyone. The Toronto police get around 200 new requests for checks each day, which cased the backlog
of almost 17,00 request. Also if the request is the same gender and birthday of a wanted criminal the
RCMP requires finger prints to determine if the person did not change their name without the
government knowing causing a bigger delay because of the amount of people in each province. The
RCMP have to require finger prints from everyone who needs vulnerable sector screening but they
find that it could cause more a backlog for the system that keeps all the records. Article 2 Canadian

offer, giving mobile phones the ability to function like that of a personal computer, including e mail,
web browsing, electronic messaging and digital photography, it would be costly for them to develop
their windows mobile software in that direction with the bulk of the mobile phone manufacturing
market share in the hands of the companies using the Symbian OS as a base for their products.
This phenomena, however, was only seen for a short period of time as Microsoft was both huge in
both technological advances and financial capabilities. With WM6, they successfully integrated into
the mobile phone market, incorporating touch screen interface for their operating systems and working
with major business phone manufacturers such as HTC and LG. As such, Microsoft hopes that the
industry would develop the way they did for the computing industry.
Thus far, we do not really see a shift in that arena, with Symbian having tied up virtually the entire
market, and also the 3 3.5G era in its infant stage, only time will be witness to whether the cellular
market moves in the same direction. o Marketing Advantages in incumbency
As mentioned above, major mobile phone manufacturers have come together, developing the Symbian
OS as a barrier to entry to Microsoft. In that sense, with the major companies holding bulk of the
market share, they stand to gain many

Christian Ethics Class At St. Joseph Home Care
As part of my Christian Ethics class, I volunteered in St. Joseph Home Care for three hours. It s an
organization led by Ukrainian nuns and they have been for years now. The Home Care is mainly filled
with elders and primarily are Ukrainians or Canadians. During the time I volunteered, I learned many
things about myself and others. Also, I experienced new things that influenced me.
My best experience was when I met an old man named Peter. I remember Peter as a funny and cool
person. Peter was probably the best part in volunteering at St. Joseph because he was very fun to be
with. He loves to sing very loudly and it s just amusing to watch. This one time, Peter beckoned me to

The overall atmosphere in St. Joseph was absolutely pleasant because I was around people that were
absolutely welcoming, warm and kind people. Not only that, I was treated nicely because my mom
works there too and they knew me since I always visit my mom. So, they weren t strangers to me.
During my time in St. Joseph s, I was the only student at Ed Feehan, who volunteered there, but a
student from Holy Cross also volunteered there too. His name was Ben. Ben was extremely cool and
funny and we got along very easily. Ben arrived earlier than me and I only got the chance to spend
thirty minutes with him.
The Imitation of Christ
The way I imitated Christ was when I showed people the true meaning of kindness and cheerfulness.
What I did was a great example of what Jesus did for his people. He helped and in return, he brought
back the idea of contentment to the people. Not only I served the people, but most importantly, I
served Jesus. He expected us to follow his way meaning to help each and everyone, no matter who the
person is.

Passivity In The Handmaid s Tale
Is that how we lived, then? But we lived as usual. Everyone does, most of the time. Whatever is going
on is as usual. Even this is as usual, now. We lived, as usual, by ignoring. Ignoring isn t the same as
ignorance, you have to work at it. In the novel The Handmaid s Tale, written by Margaret Atwood,
Atwood s character Offred, a handmaid, guides the reader through her life in the Republic of Gilead.
Through a strategically placed sequence of events, accompanied by references to animals and
inanimate objects to describe human beings, Atwood sculpts the underlying theme of the fatal
potential of passivity to result in the stripping of humanity. First and foremost, Atwood incorporates a
series of flashbacks of a pre Gilead era in order to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

and [places her] lips, closed, against his (140). Although Offred does have active thoughts, her
passivity prevents her thoughts and desires from becoming a reality. Later in the novel, at Jezebel s,
Offred allows the Commander s fingers to encircle her ankle like a bracelet, where the tattoo is, a
Braille he can read, a cattle brand (254). Offred acknowledges and accepts the fact that this intimate
act is a sign of ownership (254). This image of cattle represents how Offred permits the Commander
to exert control over her as if she were an animal or a form of property. In the end of the novel, Serena

the news, although Offred wants to run to [Nick], and throw [her] arms around him, she [walks] to the
back door, into the kitchen, [sets] down the basket, and [goes] upstairs, orderly and calm (287). Rather
than taking action, Offred [sits] in her room, at the window, waiting (291). Her passivity is so severe
that she remains submissive even when she knows her illegal relationship with the Commander has
been unveiled. In fact, the only crime she committed was remain obedient to the Commander.

which the people loved and they signed up. So that s how Islam spread very quickly. Each reason was
more important than the one above it. Mini Q Sample Essay: Basic Proficiency Why Did Islam Spread
So Quickly? It all began in a cave. Muhammad started Islam in 610 BC and after that it spread
throughout Arabia and regions near it. Islam was able to do this quickly because of its military
success, trade connections, and political order. One reason Islam spread fast was because Muslims
used force. From the beginning, Muhammad believed that Arab Muslims should not attack other
Muslims. However, they could raid non Muslims and take their things. These were called ghazu raids
(Document D). Later the raids got bigger and became military campaigns and spread across the
middle east, North Africa, and into Spain (Document C). Without force, Islam would not have spread
so quickly. Another thing that helped spread Islam quickly was how good they were with trade.

Agile Development Methods And Cmmi ( Capability Maturity...
Abstract Agile development methods and CMMI (Capability Maturity Model Integration) best
practices are often perceived to be at odds with each other. This paper provides arguments to point out
that CMMI and Agile can work toward deriving benefit from using both and exploit similarities that
have the potential to improve business performance. 1. Reasons for Discord There are two primary
reasons for the discord between the two process a) Early adopters of both these methods have used
them for purposes which are extremely different. Early CMMI adopters were developing large scale ,
less risky, critical systems , often with high level of management , Where as early adopters of AGILE
methods generally focused on smaller , single team lead ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Such transparent behavior is within all the projects and leads to clear expectations A plausible
explanation for many of the challenges faced by organizations using CMMI is likely the fact that most
processes implemented using CMMI fail to distinguish that CMMI is fundamentally a model. Instead
of viewing CMMI as a model they look at it as a standard. A standard is an auditable, testable,
compliable work with a limited amount of set demonstrable outcomes with little variation between
iterations. This misuse of CMMI as a standard is a complete misuse of the model as CMMI does not
contain any set processes or procedures . They are not activities that necessarily need to occur within a
specific process. They are process oriented activities that when used collectively can reach the process
area and business goals to improve the real life activities of an System CMMI s ultimate goal (i.e.,
continuous process improvement) is to cause an organization to become less wasteful, leaner, and
more in touch with actual development progress. Ultimately, both Agile and CMMI, especially in high
trust environments, expect organizations to see gains in productivity by eliminating unnecessary
effort. 3. Understanding AGILE In general, attributes of successful Agile implementations include the
following aspects small teams ,customer feedback, continuous planning ,co located and cross
functional teams Agile is not successful when the

The Theory Of Progress And Its Components
The optimism of some human s nature has brought forth interpretations such as the progress theory to
reflect it. Looking back on the world and prescribing that it was a primitive existence compared to the
present is an interpretation that has held some ground until the face of adversary reveals itself. The
progress of human history near the common day is not a straight linear progression that hits abstract
checkmarks of movements and revolutions, but it is a more complex study. Historians such as J.B.
Bury, Herbert Butterfield, and John Lukacs talk about the theory of progress and how it manifests in
historical writings. The scientists, C.P Snow wrote in the Two Cultures a framework of mind of the
significant revolutions in science. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The ability to look at the past and its developments is invaluable to see the developments play out and
see how progress is a limited ideal. The past might be crystallized now in textbooks, but the people of
the past did not have the future at their grasp to evaluate. The abridgement between time periods and
movements are not times that we can consider as straight forward progressions, but times in their own
right and merit. The luxury of looking back into the past is a convenience that allows the historian,
student, or teacher to read into the times, but that convenience also draws lines where causes and
effects were not as simple. The tendency to patch the new research into the old story even when the
research in detail has altered the bearings of the whole subject is an effect of the convenience and
discredits the past with comparisons to the present. The past is also held to a standard that keeps the
present wondering on how this preceded it. When studying the past it is desirable to see one s time as
superior and one that is pioneering the mantle of progress, but this is not so when the direction that
follows is not a desired one such as Snow s description of the sciences where if the scientists have the
future in their bones, then the traditional culture responds by wishing the future did not exist. This is
common since We live forward, but we can only think backward , but

Us Lobbying Reform
Since the creation of the United States government, political lobbying has played a large role in
influencing the creation and modification of laws. The act of lobbying is to solicit or try to influence
the votes of members of a legislative body (Dictionary.com). There has always been controversy
surrounding the political lobbying system, due to the potential of corruption through bribery. Two
important pieces of legislation became laws as a result of this controversy. The Federal Regulation of
Lobbying Act of 1946 and the Lobbying Disclosure Act of 1995 were created to prevent potential
abuse within the political lobbying system.
The purpose of lobbying is to communicate to public officials the special interests of specific groups.

The controversy surrounding political lobbying does not question the act of influencing public
officials, but rather the ethics relating to how these public officials are influenced. It is important to
distinguish the fine line between bribery and lobbying. It is illegal to bribe a public official in the
United States. This would mean that an individual could not provide compensation to a public official
for them to behave, or vote, in a specific manner. Lobbyists may donate money to a specific candidate
s political campaign, but they may only do so when there is no expectation that the public official will
behave in a favorable way toward the lobbyist or their clients (Mackinder). Lobbyists may bring
public officials, their immediate families, and staff on trips or out to dinner. While it is illegal for a
lobbyist representing a corporate client from directly bringing, it is not illegal for foreign governments
to sponsor for these said trips (Goldmacher). What has begun to happen is lobbyists representing
corporate clients may bring public officials on these trips, if the trip is sponsored by a foreign
government. The Senate Office of Public Records reported that $3.23 billion was spent on lobbying in
2013, with 12,300 registered lobbyists. Professor James Thurber, who teaches at American University,
has studied congressional lobbying for over 30 years, and does not believe these figures are accurate.

Roman Civilization Essay
The Roman Civilization is one of the most influential civilizations in human history. Many things,
from militaristic strategies to the way we clean ourselves stem from the Roman Civilization. While
this period in time held a lot of the advances for humankind, I believe that most came under one
empire. I believe that ancient Rome was the most influential civilization in the Classical Era of World
history.
The Roman Conquest came about around 753 B.C.E. Rome started as a kingdom, but about 240 years
later became a republic. The Republic of Rome lasted until 27 B.C.E until Augustus, formerly
Octavius, declared it an empire. The empire lasted until a split occurred in 395 C.E. The empire was
split into the East, or the Byzantine Empire, and the West. The Western Roman empire only lasted
until around the year 480 C.E., when it fell to the Germanic Visigoths. The Byzantine Empire,
spearheaded by great leaders such as Constantine, Leo and Justinian triumphed on for much longer
than its relative to the west. The Byzantine Empire lasted until the Post Classical era, falling in 1453
C.E. to the rising force of Sultan Mehmed II and the Ottoman Empire. While Rome endured many
political and social changes, it still lasted over two thousand years. Over the two thousand years it
lasted, the Roman population had peaked out from upwards of 50,000,00 to 100,000,00 citizens.
During this reign the square mileage climbed to the enormous amount of almost 2,000,000 square
miles. While these numbers are enormous, the extent of Roman influence can be seen in many other
places around the world. These influences can especially be seen in the Modern day United States.
The political similarities between the United States of America and the Ancient Roman Civilization
are very apparent. Consuls are the Roman example of the president, or prime minister, the major
difference was that there were two consuls at a time. Consuls were democratically elected and served
one year sentences. Consuls also were not the military leaders in Rome, unlike the President. This
position was held by the dictator, another magistrate, or elected individual. The consuls had the
authority to veto decisions made by each other, and were primarily in charge

Summary Of The Lottery By Shirley Jackson And The Ones...
Sacrifice for Peace It is safe to say to say that one person does not deserve harm for the betterment of
a society or a community. In the short stories, The Lottery by Shirley Jackson and The Ones Who
Walk Away from Omelas by Ursula K. Le Guin, each display similarities when it comes to sacrifice
for better. Although each society believes in the practice, in the story The Ones Who Walk Away from
Omelas the citizens believes the practice of locking a little boy away in a closest will benefit them to
live happily and prosper. In The Lottery a town of people hold a yearly assembly where a person of
the community is randomly chosen to be stoned for the hope of more crops in the fall. Each of the
stories display sacrifice in their theme, as well as people in the community who believe that the
practice of sacrifice is wrong, and the belief that the benefits for all come from pain and suffering of
one single individual. In the story, The Lottery people in the community practice sacrifice by going
through a process of drawing names. In the story the characters assemble in town square to draw
names out of a black box that has been used for decades. Their form of sacrifice has been a town ritual
that everyone in the community has become accustomed to for some time. When the day comes for
the lottery all the citizens gathered in the town square. Surprisingly, during the first drawing a well
known man by the name of Bill Hutchinson drew the slip to be sacrificed. Tessie, the

At the moment, the accounting system and financial structure guiding Virgin are disjointed. In fact, it

are no consolidated accounts for the group, the holding companies and other subsidiaries. Evidently,
the financial system that the Virgin group has adopted is rather amorphous.
Attempts to track the financial results of the various Virgin companies are apparently the most

The Developmental Coordination Disorder Questionnaire

YEAR OF PUBLICATION: 2007 (original was published in 1999) PUBLISHER: Alberta Children s
Hospital Decision Support Research Team TYPE OF TEST: 1. The Developmental Coordination
Disorder Questionnaire 07 is administered to individuals from a child s parent. 2. The DCDQ 07 is not
in itself norm standardized, but the test does ask parents to think of other children the child s age when
filling out the test. It is strongly recommended to refer to a test that is norm referenced in order to
determine if there is a developmental problem that should be addressed further. The DCDQ 07 is
designed in a way that may over estimate coordination problems in order to not risk missing any

Personal Statement For Girl Child Education
When you educate a woman, you educate a nation. This quote has been an inspiration and a
developmental tool throughout my education and daily life. Coming from a nation and a continent
with little girl child education, I aspire to become one of the most inspiring women and a role model
to both young and old. According to the Uganda Bureau of Statistics , 79% of men aged 45 49 are
literate compared to 50% of women in the same age group. Coming from a family that values
education has built my character and has taught me very many things about life that I intend to extend
to my siblings and the girl child. My dream is to become one of the most influential women not only
in Uganda and Africa, but the world at large. This is due to the fact that Africa has very few influential
women that younger girls would look up to. I therefore want to use education to change the mindset of
different young girls in Uganda and Africa as a whole. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
At that age, I had high hopes and dreams for my future. I remember I had different dreams and was
not sure of what I really wanted to be. My first primary school was Buganda Road Primary School,
which I joined in 2001 and later transferred to Kampala Junior School in 2003 where I completed my
primary level education in 2007. I later joined Gayaza High School in 2008, and I was very proud of
myself because it was my dream high school. Gayaza High school is one of the top traditional single
sex schools in Uganda due to its history of admitting top female students in Uganda. At Gayaza High
School, we were taught to stand out not only in academics, but also co curricular activities. I later
completed my A Level education at St. Mary s College School, Kitende in 2013. I am proud to say
that from primary till the end of my high school, I was listed as a top first grade student.

The Myers Briggs Type Indicator
The study of personalities is often a complex and daunting task. Trying to determine why people are
the way they are, why they do what they do, and how they will react to certain situations has been the
focus of many personality assessments. One of the most popular personality assessments being the
Myers Briggs Type Indicator or the MBTI. The core idea of this assessment when being created was to
help individuals gain more insight into their personalities. In the words of the creators, Katherine and
Isabel Briggs Myers, this assessment was created to enable individuals to grow through an
understanding and appreciation of individual differences in healthy personality and to enhance
harmony and productivity among diverse groups (History, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These eight types Jung described in his book where shown in pairs of opposites, so a person is
identified as one or the other. The first pair being ways in which we adapt to or orient ourselves to the
world around us. These two ideas are described as extraversion and introversion. Extraversion is when
our energy moves toward the outer world; the world outside of us. Introversion is when our energy
moves toward the inner world or the world inside of us (Carl jung and psychological types, n.d.). Jung
believed that our orientation to the world, whether that be introverted or extroverted, is the foundation
of our personality. Although most tend to go back and forth these two energies on a daily basis
depending on the environment we find ourselves in, Jung believed that we feel most comfortable in
one of these worlds over the other.
In addition to being either more extraverted or introverted, Jung theorized that these alone could not
account for behavioral differences he observed in people. Therefore, he identified two opposite mental
functions in which we use to take in information. Sensing perception which is the process of collecting
data through our five senses and intuitive perception which is the process in which connections are
made and meanings inferred beyond our sensory data (Carl jung and psychological types, n.d.). Jung
also identified two opposite mental functions which we use to evaluate information or

Introduction:
The Domain Name System (DNS) is the system (or agent) responsible for resolving Domain Names
(such as www.google.com) to IP Addresses (such as 212.0.130.23), which is required to make the
Internet usable. This resolution list is distributed throughout the Internet in a hierarchy of authority.
There s normally a DNS server hosted by ISPs (Internet Service Providers) to serve their clients
(Rouse 2005). The basic operation of DNS in a single Internet resource request is shown in Figure 1
(AFNIC 2009). It functions like a database that is distributed over DNS machines that interact with
each other to be able to respond to a user s query. The top of the DNS hierarchy contains the top level
domains, such as .com, which are controlled by top level DNS servers. The DNS server
implementation which is used for this paper is BIND, which is the most widely used DNS server
implementation on the Internet today.
The Attack Surface of the DNS System:
The following are the general categories of attacks on DNS Servers, in terms of the nature of the
vulnerable target, which give the attacker the ability to impact on the normal behaviour of the DNS
Server and the Internet:
DNS Protocol and Software Bugs specific attacks
DNS Infrastructure Attacks
The first category of attacks concerns vulnerabilities within the anatomy of the DNS protocol and the
software implementation of the protocol. The second category of attacks concerns

The Gospel Of Mark Illustrates The Character And Face Of...
Describe how the Gospel of Mark illustrates the character and face of Jesus for the Early Christians.
The Bible consists of four gospels, Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John. The Gospel of Mark is considered
to be the first gospel written, although some may disagree with that. Written between 50 AD and 67
AD and being originally drafted in Greek. It was addressed to the Gentile Christians and reached out
to members of the community being persecuted, even to death for their beliefs and emphasised the
humanity of Jesus. There is no known author of the Gospel of Mark, which is why many people
believe it is written on opinion. There is a belief that the author of this Gospel may be John Mark. The
gospel illustrates Jesus as a humanist and tells us how the Christian population believed Jesus was the
Messiah. Mark is able to capture Jesus as not only a healer, but also a teacher throughout the gospel.
We believe the Gospel is written to portray Jesus as the suffering servant and to help emphasise Jesus
as a humanist.
In Mark s gospel, God speaks to us and tells us this is my son . Many people believed that the messiah
that was sent was the son of god. By God saying this to us, he presents Jesus as the Messiah. Yet,
many people still didn t believe he was who he was said to be. Through Mark s gospel we are able to
see how Jesus was sent to help the christian religion and people of Christianity as not only the
Messiah but the suffering servant.
The gospel of Mark was written for the Christians who were under Emperor Nero s rule. This
particular gospel was written between 50 AD 60 AD. These Christians were persecuted and blamed for
crimes they didn t commit. The severity of the Romans placed persecution on to the Christians.
Christians living in their early life under Emperor Nero s rule struggled extremely. After Rome
suffered a terrible fire that burned for six days and seven nights in 64 AD, the Romans accused the
emperor of the devastation. In order to cover up these remarks Nero blamed the fire on the Christians,
consequently, the entire Christian population became involved and blamed. Christian life was living
hell due to Emperor Nero. A Roman mosaic shows Christian prisoners being put to death as part of a

Propaganda In Advertising
In advertisement, propaganda is all around. It is in newspaper articles, television ads, movies, and a
plethora of other things. Propaganda is a type of advertisement that shows how good or how much
better a product is that anything else in that department. Advertisers lean heavily on propaganda to sell
products, whether the products are a brand of toothpaste, a candidate for office, or a particular political
viewpoint. (The Longman Writer McClintock s Essay Pg. 232). There are seven main types of
propaganda, Name Calling, Glittering Generalities, Transfer, Testimonial, Plain Folks, Card Stacking,
and Bandwagon. Since its first use, most people when they hear propaganda, think only about political
ads but that is not all that propaganda is used for. Although propaganda may seem relevant only in the
political arena, the concept can be applied fruitfully to the way products and ideas are sold in
advertising. (The Longman Writer McClintock s Essay Pg. 232) Two very good examples of using
propaganda techniques are a State Farm commercial, and a Farmers advertisement. The State Farm ad
is a beautifully done, two minute long commercial that is meant to pull on the heart string of the
watcher with a technique such as Plain Folks. The farmers advertisement on the other hand is a think
out of the box comical commercial that does not cause emotions to stir but instead makes up it up with
a Testimonial. Both ads are very appealing to the eyes and don t use attacks on another

  • 2. My Visit On Chicago Military Academy At Bronzeville My visit to Chicago Military Academy at Bronzeville provided an image that the school has been the sight of perceived danger, yet the teachers, such as Mr. Frontera, remain because they care and believe that they can make a difference in the lives of the students they teach. The morning I was attempting to go visit the school got off to a rocky start that would somewhat predict the rest of the day. The principal at Chicago Military Academy at Bronzeville asked me to visit with another class that started forty minutes earlier than the class he had previously asked me to attend. After rushing through my morning routine, I still managed to make it to the school ten minutes after the class started. Rather than interrupt the class, I decided to go to the nearest McDonald s to sit and read until the next class cycle. This was when I first noticed my surroundings. Though it was cold, there seemed to be a lot of guys hanging around on the sidewalks. There were two fast food restaurants that I would not consider healthy food choices. Once inside of McDonalds, I came to realize that I had sat down in the middle of a drug transition. Essentially, there were men selling and doing drugs in the bathroom of the McDonald s. I felt uncomfortable and decided it would be best to sit in the office of the school. Once I arrived back at the school, I could not figure out how to access the building. I called the school, expecting to be rudely guided into the school. However, like Steinberg et ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Immobilized Metal Affinity Chromatography Proteins with his tags are purified using IMAC, immobilized metal affinity chromatography. The protein product interacts with a metal that is reversibly bound to an immobilized chelating group. The immobolized chelating group acts as a Lewis base (electron pair donor) to which the Lewis acid (electron pair acceptor) metal ion is coordinated. The support to which the metal ion binds is called a ligand. When an electron donor group is replaced by another, the action is referred to as ligand exchange. The donor atoms involved in this exchange are the electronegative nitrogen, sulfur, or oxygen. These atoms scavenge for sources of electrons. The structure formed when the metal ions are added to form the chelate result in free coordination ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In this paper I will refer to the immobilized Lewis base as the ligand. The combination of the metal ion with the ligand will be referred to as the affinity ligand. IMAC can be performed employing ion exchange resins as the ligand, but in the separation of proteins only chelating groups have been used to fix the metal ion to the support. Schmuckler compared the binding energy of transition metal cations with ordinary cation exchangers and with chelating groups. He found the chelating groups binding energy to be 15 to 25 kcal/mol whereas the ordinary ion exchangers have a binding energy of 2 to 3 kcal/mol. (Nes, 1999) This characteristic has led to chelating groups as the ligand of choice in IMAC. The chelating groups used in IMAC are multidentate chelating compounds providing the strength of the complex formed by the protein, metal ion and chelating group. Free coordination sites in the metal ion must be present in the structure formed after the metal ion is chelated by the chelating group to allow for the adsorption or binding of solvent molecules or proteins. (Sulkowski, 1985) Differences in the number of free coordination sites plays a part in the selectivity of chelating substances for a target protein. Commonly used metal chelating substances include iminodiacetic acid (IDA) and nitriloacetic ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. Why The Military Draft Should Be Reinstated Why The Military Draft Should Be Reinstated I think we ought to have a draft. I think if a nation goes to war, it shouldn t be represented by a professional force because it gets to be unrepresentative of the population . . . . (Fayette, par. 2). Those are the words of General Stanley McChrystal, the former senior commander of international forces in Afghanistan, speaking of his stance on whether the United States should bring back the draft. The American public has become disconnected from the military. The time has come to do something about this; it is time to reinstate the draft. There are three reasons why the draft should be reinstated. The costs of military personnel have soared in recent years, it would make elected officials think twice before sending troops overseas since there will be a larger pool of draftees it would create a melting pot of backgrounds. Although there are those who condemn the draft, they miss the point entirely. Without question, the draft should be reinstated immediately. President Franklin Roosevelt signed the Selective Training and Service Act of 1940 which established the Selective Service System as an independent Federal agency within the Department of Defense (Smith, par. 3). Young men were only drafted in America s greatest conflicts the Civil War, Vietnam War, World War I, and the lead up to World War II (Bandow, par. 3). Nearly 2.2 million men were drafted during 1961 to 1973 (South, par. 25). This practice continued during the Cold War as the U.S. sought to protect friendly war ravaged states (Bandow, par. 3). From 1948 until 1973, young men were drafted to fill open spots in the armed forces which could not be filled through voluntary means (Smith, par. 4). The registration requirement was suspended in 1975 but it was resumed again in 1980, registration continues today as a hedge against underestimating the number of servicemen needed in a future crisis (Smith, par. 10). In 1973, the United States military went to full volunteer service that marked the end of the draft. Since the all volunteer military has been active, there have been 144 executed operations compared to 19 operations prior to 1973 (South, par. 56). Currently, there have been talks of reinstating ... • 6. Essay on Major Impacts of the American Revolution The American Revolution was a war fought between Great Britain and the American colonies over independence from 1775 to 1783 which resulted in a fundamental change in American politics, society, and economics. The American Revolution began as a result of Great Britain taxing the colonies to cover the debts accumulated through the French and Indian War. While the majority of the colonies stayed loyal to their Mother Land , some of the colonist felt resentment toward England. Some colonist felt that England had no right to tax the colonies, while they had no representation in parliament. This created a divide within in the colonies between those who were in favor of independence Patriots, and those who were still loyal to the Crown ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Another debate that heated the colonies was the controversy over the future of agriculture in the colonies. Many thought that America should change into being dependent on commercial manufacturing, while others wanted to keep agriculture the main source of income. Document F shows the Medal of Philadelphia Society for the Promotion of Agriculture. The symbolism in the medal is that Farming could be symbolized as the nation looking on into the future, suggesting abundance, fertility, and liberty. Socially, the War left many groups of people questioning their role in society. When the men went off to fight the war, the women were left to run the businesses and assume the positions their husbands left behind. Many women, such as Deborah Sampson and Molly Pitcher picked up their rifles fought alongside the men in the war (Document A). After the war, the women were left questioning their subordinate in society. Women were finding their worth, and slowly started to demand more rights. • 7. The Berlin Wall s Impact On Economic, Social And... The Berlin wall had a highly significant impact on the economic, social and political relations between West and East Europe. It stood from 1961 1989 as a physical reminder of that divide, a daily reminder of the divide that still influences the nation today, and a physical barrier in which 138 East Germans died trying to cross. So dire was the Berlin Wall that Heinrich Albertz, an aide to West Berlin Mayor, compared it to as if; They are cutting up a city, cutting into living flesh without anesthesia . Thus it can be observed that so high was its importance, that only after the Berlin wall was abolished in that the cold war was finally coming to an end and so traumatising was its presence that Berlin has yet to fully recover. In order to come to a conclusion about the impact of the Berlin wall, one must first understand the context of which it came to be. At the end of the second world war, the disintegration of German central authority allowed allied powers to take control of Germany. During the February of 1945, the allied victors held the Yalta conference, a committee focused on the dismemberment of Germany, in order to come to a conclusion on the current German question . This can be regarded as the defining moment of which the division between East and West Europe became apparent. As victors struggled with their losses and the defeated nations lost international favor, the Soviet Union and USA began a power struggle to become the new global powerhouse. The Potsdam ... This is a way for him that he can connect to the audience. He directed many war films, and they were authentic because he was in the war and he saw what happened in many different areas. During this course, I learned more in depth knowledge about students working with others within a concept called cooperative learning. Cooperative learning is one of three goal structures associated with motivation. The three structures are cooperative, competitive, and individualistic. Though all three are used to motivate students to achieve goals, I believe cooperative is the most ideal goal structure for student development. Cooperative learning involves putting student in groups for a lesson and requiring all students to succeed in order for any one individual to earn rewards. As a future educator, I want my own students to have those same experiences that I have had and cooperative learning is a perfect way to motivate the development of collaborative skills. The fifth and final concept I found to be enlightening throughout the semester was the concept of divergent thinking versus convergent thinking. Divergent thinking is a type of thinking, whose goal is to come up with numerous unique and original ideas. One of the most common aspects of divergent thinking is brainstorming. This is frequently used within school and many other domains in order to come up with a large amount of ideas or topics at once. To contrast, convergent thinking is a type of thinking that focuses on finding a specific answer. Convergent thinking is used for situations where there is only one answer such as how many presidents there have been or how many states there are in America. Divergent thinking is more often used for open ended questions or to come up with completely new ideas. Divergent thinking is also a method of thinking that enhances student creativity. When in the midst of divergent thinking, a person is supposed to defer their judgment of ideas until later and create the most off the wall ideas possible. I especially enjoyed learning about divergent and convergent thinking because I had not realized there were various types of thinking. I had believed people could decide to be creative ... Internal threats also can compromise the established local structure. There are many internal threats prevalent as well. As people live life in the U.S, or experience other culture, they may want to integrate the new culture into their own. One such example is with kids. When kids go to school, they meet people of other cultures, and beliefs. Over time, they may think that an aspect of their beliefs is better than their own. This can cause a recession in the local culture of an area. Another internal threat is that of movement. As kids grow older they may get bored of their surroundings and decide to move out. When people move, buildings generally become open for sale, and often for low prices. These vacancies are enticing to many people who are seeking a home. This can greatly disrupt a neighborhood, as suddenly what was previously a Chinese neighborhood, is now half polish. One last example is with oriental Chinese food. They go through these long processes just to amend things that will best serve the needs of society in the future. Lawmakers should not work longer hours unless there is an increase in their pay for the extra time they are serving. That is the problem with this nation, people are selfish and will not appreciate others for the hard work and dedication they set forward to make things happen. Most legislators are demanded to work overtime because of the obsessive conservative people wanting things perfect before moving on to another topic. The reason being that most legislators are accepting the overtime is because they need the extra money to send back home, so they can still in some way provide and support their families. At the same time they are working extra hours just to get more work done to not get paid at all. If that s the case legislators would be better off working at a restaurant for some extra money. Law Problems A Health Football Club Faced This paper focuses on analyzing the a few questions about a series of law problems a Health Football Club faced, those questions concern formation of contract, some remedies can be applied through relevant law knowledge. In this case, it is essential to whether the action of HFC that inviting season ticket holder to renew for next season is an offer or not. In some point of view, it should be an offer. it can also be an invitation to treat without the certain term of price of £700 for all applications received before May 5th , so the contract is legal binding automatically when offer accepted by offeree. According to general law principle, an offer must be clear on certain terms and must be communicated to the other party, a vague information the offeror given would be regarded as an invitation to treat and mere buff or boast. Obviously and generally, a normal advertisement locally would be an invitation to treat, which is not enforceable to be an offer such as case of Partridge v Crittenden(1968), but if there are some specific set of terms in order to create legal relations, an offer can be found. See example of Blackpool Fylde Aero Flying Club Ltd v Blackpool Borough Council(1990). The fact is Liam sent a letter on April 28th, it takes long time than expected and received by HFC on May 7th, so HFC terminated old offer with £700, and regard the acceptance as a one of an new offer with £850. For the students it means that it will take longer for them to get the job that they have studied for and will have to wait a while for them to pay off the debt. The reason why this is a big problem for the RCMP is because they have to do a background check on anyone. The Toronto police get around 200 new requests for checks each day, which cased the backlog of almost 17,00 request. In the novel The Handmaid s Tale, written by Margaret Atwood, Atwood s character Offred, a handmaid, guides the reader through her life in the Republic of Gilead. Through a strategically placed sequence of events, accompanied by references to animals and inanimate objects to describe human beings, Atwood sculpts the underlying theme of the fatal potential of passivity to result in the stripping of humanity. Muhammad started Islam in 610 BC and after that it spread throughout Arabia and regions near it. Islam was able to do this quickly because of its military success, trade connections, and political order. One reason Islam spread fast was because Muslims used force. Abstract Agile development methods and CMMI (Capability Maturity Model Integration) best practices are often perceived to be at odds with each other. This paper provides arguments to point out that CMMI and Agile can work toward deriving benefit from using both and exploit similarities that have the potential to improve business performance. 1. Reasons for Discord There are two primary reasons for the discord between the two process a) Early adopters of both these methods have used them for purposes which are extremely different. Such transparent behavior is within all the projects and leads to clear expectations A plausible explanation for many of the challenges faced by organizations using CMMI is likely the fact that most processes implemented using CMMI fail to distinguish that CMMI is fundamentally a model. A standard is an auditable, testable, compliable work with a limited amount of set demonstrable outcomes with little variation between iterations. This misuse of CMMI as a standard is a complete misuse of the model as CMMI does not contain any set processes or procedures . The ability to look at the past and its developments is invaluable to see the developments play out and see how progress is a limited ideal. The past might be crystallized now in textbooks, but the people of the past did not have the future at their grasp to evaluate. The abridgement between time periods and movements are not times that we can consider as straight forward progressions, but times in their own right and merit. The luxury of looking back into the past is a convenience that allows the historian, student, or teacher to read into the times, but that convenience also draws lines where causes and effects were not as simple. The tendency to patch the new research into the old story even when the research in detail has altered the bearings of the whole subject is an effect of the convenience and discredits the past with comparisons to the present. The past is also held to a standard that keeps the present wondering on how this preceded it. When studying the past it is desirable to see one s time as superior and one that is pioneering the mantle of progress, but this is not so when the direction that follows is not a desired one such as Snow s description of the sciences where if the scientists have the future in their bones, then the traditional culture responds by wishing the future did not exist. The act of lobbying is to solicit or try to influence the votes of members of a legislative body (Dictionary.com). The controversy surrounding political lobbying does not question the act of influencing public officials, but rather the ethics relating to how these public officials are influenced. It is important to distinguish the fine line between bribery and lobbying. It is illegal to bribe a public official in the United States. This would mean that an individual could not provide compensation to a public official for them to behave, or vote, in a specific manner. Lobbyists may donate money to a specific candidate s political campaign, but they may only do so when there is no expectation that the public official will behave in a favorable way toward the lobbyist or their clients (Mackinder). Lobbyists may bring public officials, their immediate families, and staff on trips or out to dinner. While it is illegal for a lobbyist representing a corporate client from directly bringing, it is not illegal for foreign governments to sponsor for these said trips (Goldmacher). What has begun to happen is lobbyists representing corporate clients may bring public officials on these trips, if the trip is sponsored by a foreign government. The Senate Office of Public Records reported that $3.23 billion was spent on lobbying in 2013, with 12,300 registered lobbyists. • 32. Roman Civilization Essay The Roman Civilization is one of the most influential civilizations in human history. Many things, from militaristic strategies to the way we clean ourselves stem from the Roman Civilization. While this period in time held a lot of the advances for humankind, I believe that most came under one empire. I believe that ancient Rome was the most influential civilization in the Classical Era of World history. The Roman Conquest came about around 753 B.C.E. Rome started as a kingdom, but about 240 years later became a republic. The Republic of Rome lasted until 27 B.C.E until Augustus, formerly Octavius, declared it an empire. The empire lasted until a split occurred in 395 C.E. The empire was split into the East, or the Byzantine Empire, and the West. The Western Roman empire only lasted until around the year 480 C.E., when it fell to the Germanic Visigoths. The Byzantine Empire, spearheaded by great leaders such as Constantine, Leo and Justinian triumphed on for much longer than its relative to the west. The Byzantine Empire lasted until the Post Classical era, falling in 1453 C.E. to the rising force of Sultan Mehmed II and the Ottoman Empire. While Rome endured many political and social changes, it still lasted over two thousand years. Over the two thousand years it lasted, the Roman population had peaked out from upwards of 50,000,00 to 100,000,00 citizens. During this reign the square mileage climbed to the enormous amount of almost 2,000,000 square miles. While these numbers are enormous, the extent of Roman influence can be seen in many other places around the world. These influences can especially be seen in the Modern day United States. The political similarities between the United States of America and the Ancient Roman Civilization are very apparent. Consuls are the Roman example of the president, or prime minister, the major difference was that there were two consuls at a time. Consuls were democratically elected and served one year sentences. Consuls also were not the military leaders in Rome, unlike the President. This position was held by the dictator, another magistrate, or elected individual. • 40. The Myers Briggs Type Indicator The study of personalities is often a complex and daunting task. Trying to determine why people are the way they are, why they do what they do, and how they will react to certain situations has been the focus of many personality assessments. One of the most popular personality assessments being the Myers Briggs Type Indicator or the MBTI. The core idea of this assessment when being created was to help individuals gain more insight into their personalities. In the words of the creators, Katherine and Isabel Briggs Myers, this assessment was created to enable individuals to grow through an understanding and appreciation of individual differences in healthy personality and to enhance harmony and productivity among diverse groups (History, ... The first pair being ways in which we adapt to or orient ourselves to the world around us. These two ideas are described as extraversion and introversion. Extraversion is when our energy moves toward the outer world; the world outside of us. Introversion is when our energy moves toward the inner world or the world inside of us (Carl jung and psychological types, n.d.). Jung believed that our orientation to the world, whether that be introverted or extroverted, is the foundation of our personality. Although most tend to go back and forth these two energies on a daily basis depending on the environment we find ourselves in, Jung believed that we feel most comfortable in one of these worlds over the other. In addition to being either more extraverted or introverted, Jung theorized that these alone could not account for behavioral differences he observed in people. Therefore, he identified two opposite mental functions in which we use to take in information. Sensing perception which is the process of collecting data through our five senses and intuitive perception which is the process in which connections are made and meanings inferred beyond our sensory data (Carl jung and psychological types, n.d.). Jung also identified two opposite mental functions which we use to evaluate information or ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Introduction: The Domain Name System (DNS) is the system (or agent) responsible for resolving Domain Names (such as www.google.com) to IP Addresses (such as 212.0.130.23), which is required to make the Internet usable. This resolution list is distributed throughout the Internet in a hierarchy of authority. There s normally a DNS server hosted by ISPs (Internet Service Providers) to serve their clients (Rouse 2005). The basic operation of DNS in a single Internet resource request is shown in Figure 1 (AFNIC 2009). It functions like a database that is distributed over DNS machines that interact with each other to be able to respond to a user s query. The top of the DNS hierarchy contains the top level domains, such as .com, which are controlled by top level DNS servers. The DNS server implementation which is used for this paper is BIND, which is the most widely used DNS server implementation on the Internet today. The Attack Surface of the DNS System: The following are the general categories of attacks on DNS Servers, in terms of the nature of the

  • 43. The Gospel Of Mark Illustrates The Character And Face Of... Describe how the Gospel of Mark illustrates the character and face of Jesus for the Early Christians. The Bible consists of four gospels, Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John. The Gospel of Mark is considered to be the first gospel written, although some may disagree with that. Written between 50 AD and 67 AD and being originally drafted in Greek. It was addressed to the Gentile Christians and reached out to members of the community being persecuted, even to death for their beliefs and emphasised the humanity of Jesus. There is no known author of the Gospel of Mark, which is why many people believe it is written on opinion. There is a belief that the author of this Gospel may be John Mark. The gospel illustrates Jesus as a humanist and tells us how the Christian population believed Jesus was the Messiah. Mark is able to capture Jesus as not only a healer, but also a teacher throughout the gospel. We believe the Gospel is written to portray Jesus as the suffering servant and to help emphasise Jesus as a humanist. In Mark s gospel, God speaks to us and tells us this is my son . Many people believed that the messiah that was sent was the son of god. By God saying this to us, he presents Jesus as the Messiah. Yet, many people still didn t believe he was who he was said to be. Through Mark s gospel we are able to see how Jesus was sent to help the christian religion and people of Christianity as not only the Messiah but the suffering servant. The gospel of Mark was written for the Christians who were under Emperor Nero s rule. This particular gospel was written between 50 AD 60 AD. These Christians were persecuted and blamed for crimes they didn t commit. The severity of the Romans placed persecution on to the Christians. Christians living in their early life under Emperor Nero s rule struggled extremely. After Rome suffered a terrible fire that burned for six days and seven nights in 64 AD, the Romans accused the emperor of the devastation. In order to cover up these remarks Nero blamed the fire on the Christians, consequently, the entire Christian population became involved and blamed. Christian life was living hell due to Emperor Nero. A Roman mosaic shows Christian prisoners being put to death as part of a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 44. Propaganda In Advertising In advertisement, propaganda is all around. It is in newspaper articles, television ads, movies, and a plethora of other things. Propaganda is a type of advertisement that shows how good or how much better a product is that anything else in that department. Advertisers lean heavily on propaganda to sell products, whether the products are a brand of toothpaste, a candidate for office, or a particular political viewpoint. (The Longman Writer McClintock s Essay Pg. 232). There are seven main types of propaganda, Name Calling, Glittering Generalities, Transfer, Testimonial, Plain Folks, Card Stacking, and Bandwagon. Since its first use, most people when they hear propaganda, think only about political ads but that is not all that propaganda is used for. Although propaganda may seem relevant only in the political arena, the concept can be applied fruitfully to the way products and ideas are sold in advertising. (The Longman Writer McClintock s Essay Pg. 232) Two very good examples of using propaganda techniques are a State Farm commercial, and a Farmers advertisement. The State Farm ad is a beautifully done, two minute long commercial that is meant to pull on the heart string of the watcher with a technique such as Plain Folks. The farmers advertisement on the other hand is a think out of the box comical commercial that does not cause emotions to stir but instead makes up it up with a Testimonial. Both ads are very appealing to the eyes and don t use attacks on another ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
