Mackie s Theory Of Moral Skepticism
Moral skepticism is defined as the denial of objective moral standards is correct, and that morality
therefore lacks any real authority (Shafer Landau). The concept of objectivity plays a part in the
theory of moral standards. Objectivity is used in the sense that a subject exists without its perception,
and that one can come to the same conclusion as everyone else given the same sources/information.
An object is in existence despite of any opinions or matters, which is why this principle is closely
associated with being reality and truth. Philosopher Mackie has a specific opinion on the ethical
theory called subjectivism or moral skepticism that discusses the falsehood of moral claims. Mackie
developed the principle of subjectivism, which states that morals claims do not exist. There is nothing

Relativity is used to discuss that moral codes are diverse and differ from societies. This argument
starts with the view that moral opinions vary among many people. Since there is not a universal
agreement on values, then values can t be objective. He uses relativity in response to cultural
relativism and states that individuals and groups don t come to their values and reflect way of life;
people practice their way of life and then come to their values. Different morals come from different
ways of life instead of having different views on moral beliefs. With this being said, if objective
values aren t the reason for moral beliefs, then there is no reason to believe in ethical claims. The
argument of queerness can take form being metaphysical. The metaphysical concept states that if there
is such a thing of objective values, they wouldn t be like anything else. If these values were to exist,
they would be really queer and unusual. If objective values did occur, one would need a unique, moral
sense, but ultimately objective values can t exist since they can t be

My Experience Of My Life
It was the summer of 15. Filled with travel, laughter, and smiles. But, at that time I didn t pay attention
or even cherish those moments. Now, I truly know how much I miss the feeling of being that happy all
the time. School was out. Everyone just waiting for the clock to hit the 12, that s when everything in
my life changed. It was my first time going on my airplane. My first time being in a car for more than
8 hours. It was my very first firsts. I m not going to lie. That scared me. You know. Experiencing
something for the first time. That s a tough job. But anyways, that s the background to this very
important part of my life. During this time, I saw happiness beaming off of everyone s face and saw
no bad in people. I wish I thought this way now. High School changed my perspective a lot. The stress
is at its ultimatum. It just doesn t want to stop. I constantly am in books, studying for a test, in books,
memorizing a poem, or in books because I generally have nothing to do. All I want is to go back to the
time that I explored something every day. With a friend or just with my family. Summer was great. I
also had my first experience at an overnight summer camp. Let me tell you more about that. The car
ride to the buses was filled with emotion. It was the first time that I would leave my family for a
whole week. I was still in the 7th grade so that was a big wave of independence instantly coming my
way. I honestly thought that I wasn t going to survive. What would I

Marilyn Monroe In The Asphalt Jungle
If I m a star, then the people made me a star. ~Marilyn Monroe. Marilyn Monroe was a very unique
and well known person to a lot of people. She has a generous heart and strong independence. You
know, most people don t really know me. ~Marilyn Monroe. This quote is true for many people. We
think we know who she is, but once you start asking questions you find things you never thought
would be true. Never judge a book by it s cover, My dinners at home are startlingly simple. Every
night, I stop at the market near my hotel and pick up some steak, lamb chops or some liver, which I

Marilyn Monroe did an abundance of things for others in need. She performed at the Hollywood Bowl
for a fundraising event to help underprivileged children at St. Jude hospital. She worked with the
World Adoption International Fund to help more than 50,000 abandoned kids get adopted. The one
thing that is remarkable is perfectly said by Andrew Mersmann This one is well known: Marilyn
visited an orphanage in Mexico and wrote a check for $1000 while the press was there and after they
left she tore it up and wrote a new one for $10,000. (Mersmann). These are just a few of the amazing
things Marilyn did over her lifetime and she used her talent too help others too. There is one more

Visual Analysis Of Cahokia
As a representative artist of Cahokia, my duty is to draw and paint the everyday weather of the region
near the Mississippi River and to express the daily routine and lifestyle of the Cahokians through
aesthetic works such as documenting pictures or using writing letters on the wall as an essential record
for the Cahokian government. After the abundant food production in Cahokia, various people from
different regions visited and adapted in the new kind of civilization. People created colorful wooden
homes, monuments, and towers to praise the grateful weather as it provided right amount of sunlight,
rain and wind in order to grow crops to satisfy and fulfil the stomachs of large population. Moreover,
the climate did not have abnormal patterns throughout most of the periods. To appreciate this stable
climate, I decided to express the clear sunrise that is observed from the top of the Monk s Mound.

Angelina Grimke Catharine Beecher
Angelina Grimke s public appeal for the institution of the human rights of all moral beings is
ultimately superior to Catharine Beecher s doctrine of female supremacy limited to the domestic
sphere. Both women are visionaries of their era offering contrasting views of women s proper place in
society as well as their moral duties. History has proven that Grimke is unwaveringly the contest
winner of this debate . Compelling reasons for Grimke s historical success can be seen in the women s
differing contextual arguments, the effective use of rhetorical mediums, and the personal embodiment
of beliefs.

Slavery and Abolitionism, which was ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Angelina also used her voice to spread her message by making an emotional connection with her
audiences. Her followers could relate to her sincerity as well as observe the unusual religious
inspiration in her speaking . This tool of public speech also aided her cause in the form of visible
opposition to her lectures. By combining the mediums of literacy and speech, Angelina Grimke could
not be ignored. These two means of rhetorical persuasion proved to be a powerful language in her
commitment to social reform. Another factor of Angelina s progress is the radical nature of her
arguments and the generation of loud opposition. Success raises up opponents . Angelina Grimke
represented the most radical and controversial themes of her time. Not only was she a female Southern
abolitionist and a champion of women s suffrage, she publically proclaimed her contentious ideas to
the masses. The very idea of speaking to mixed audiences was a social taboo . Women did not speak
publically, certainly on political issues; these matters were seen to be too far above them. Angelina s
public response to Beecher and various other conservative opponents provoked dismay as she
extended the scope of [her] commentary beyond a simple defense ...and proved it to be a powerful

Annalee Newitz sWhen Will White People Stop Making Movies...
In the 21st century, movies have become a platform for ideas and themes to be conveyed through a
screen. Themes of change, environmental crisis, love, and death are all only a few of the most
common themes that circulate through the Hollywood film industry. According to Annalee Newitz in
her essay When Will White People Stop Making Movies Like Avatar? , a recurring theme she s
noticed is the theme of white guilt. In her essay, Newitz depicts the movie Avatar as nothing more than
a colorful rehash of this (apparently) common white guilt scenario. This is where the main white
protagonist leaves the oppressive (white) side to join the oppressed native side upon seeing the error
of his ways. Some Americans, including Newitz, believe that movies like Avatar possess an
underlying motive, which includes keeping the white guilt fantasy alive and trying to promote the idea
of leading people of color from the inside rather than from the outside (Newitz). The true question is
whether or not there really is that underlying motive, or if it is just a fabrication based upon personal
bias. The first point I noticed Newitz bring up was that, in white guilt fantasies, the main white
character always seems to become the leader of the indigenous group they join. While Jake Sully the
main character of the film did eventually become the leader of the Na vi (the native blue aliens that
inhabited the moon Pandora before the humans came to infiltrate it), this has absolutely nothing to do

The Trickster Essay
The Trickster
Karl Jung s explanation for the archetypes that surface in cultural and religious literature is that they
are the product of what he calls the collective unconsciousness. That thread of consciousness that
connects all human beings and cultures around the world. Yet it is not visible to the naked eye, one
must look for the signs of it by researching cultures who are long gone and comparing them to each
other and our own. Studying it reminds us that all humans are bound together by a common source.
The quot;Trickster quot; is an archetype that surfaces in many cultural and religious stories. Each

He is always attempting to fly (which is the sign of a god to the Native Americans) with disastrous
consequences. No matter how hard he tries he cannot escape the human condition. Perhaps these
stories are meant to teach Native Americans not to aspire to be anything more than human.
The Trickster can be seen as a parody of the Shaman, or the spiritual leader of the tribe. The Shaman
looks to the supernatural for his strength while the coyote relies on his own wits. The coyote is always
looking for the short cut. Through meditation the Shaman is said to be able to fly. This is a sign of his
divinity. The coyote always has an elaborate scheme for flight, like hitching a ride with a buzzard, but
the end is always the same.( p.87 Hynes and
Doty)
Does this character sound familiar? Millions of kids grew up with this very same character, but we
knew him as Wile Coyote. The Looney Toons character that was always after the Road Runner. The
creators of him were interested in the comedic value they saw in Native American stories and adapted
him into a cartoon. Wile would come up with some elaborate schemes, but in the end the result was
always the same. The long fall from the cliff to the ground.
The Trickster of Greek mythology was a God by the name of Hermes. Once again we see a sort of
bridge between the average man and the gods. Hermes is the only God in Greek mythology that

Sonnet 116 and Love Is Not All
William Shakespeare s Sonnet 116 and Edna St. Vincent Millay s Love Is Not All both attempt to
define love, by telling what love is and what it is not. Shakespeare s sonnet praises love and speaks of
love in its most ideal form, while Millay s poem begins by giving the impression that the speaker feels
that love is not all, but during the unfolding of the poem we find the ironic truth that love is all.
Shakespeare, on the other hand, depicts love as perfect and necessary from the beginning to the end of
his poem. Although these two authors have taken two completely different approaches, both have
worked to show the importance of love and to define it. However, Shakespeare is most confident of
his definition of love, while Millay seems ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These are all things that we must have in order to survive, but even though love can give us none of
these things, Millay then goes on to say that many men are dying because of a lack of love: Yet many
a man is making friends with death / Even as I speak, for lack of love alone (8 9). It important to note
that the buildup of what love cannot do is necessary for the dramatic declaration that we need love
regardless of how useless it may seem. This is a cleaver ploy by Millay because although she has
effectively shown how worthless love is on a physical level, she has also effectively shown how
necessary love is on an emotional level. It is important to note that the first eight lines are a part of a
single sentence. This is important because it means that if we remove the repeated poetic verse found
within these lines, we discover that Millay is simply saying Love is not all... / Yet many a man is
making friends with death / Even as I speak, for lack of love alone (1 8) . This is a justifiable
conclusion because after the words Love is not all the author uses a colon, which means that the lines
following are simply a definition for what she means by Love is not all (1) . When put in such simple
terms, it s easy to see how this is almost indistinguishable from saying, Love is not all, but it would be
better to be dead than not have it.
The second half of the poem is very different from the beginning half because the lines that follow the

Similarities Between The Rome And The Han Dynasty
The Han Dynasty and Imperial Rome were two greatly advanced civilizations for their time period
and their success was no fluke. Both dynasties gained their success through a handful of varying ideas
and strategies involving the economy, military, and social structures. However, one of the greatest
factors that determined the respective dynasty s futures was their methods of political control. The
Han Dynasty and Roman Empire agreed on some major aspects and ideas of politics, but also had
diverging views on a few subjects. For example, one major topic both groups disagreed on is the form
of government. Some examples of subjects they both agreed on was the focus on infrastructure and
trade. One thing that most major political states throughout history can agree on is the importance of
trading, not only within the state but with outside states as well. Both the Roman Empire and the Han
Dynasty were large participants in trade, not only within their states but with outside states as well.
The Han Dynasty exemplifies this by showing their great amount of effort to get involved in the Silk
Road. The Han Dynasty went to the extent of expanding the wall into the route of the Silk Road.
Metaphorically speaking, this is the Han Dynasty s way of sticking their foot in the Silk Road and
regional trade. This was first done in the Han Dynasty because the leaders knew the necessity for trade
and its power to keep their government and society thriving.
The Romans were also greatly

Since Netflix was an online movie Rental Company, it introduced its subscription services to
customers in 1999 which allowed access to unlimited DVD rentals with low payments. The
subscription package consisted of the mailing cost of the DVD, which would be streaming on any
device that was compatible with Netflix software. In the beginning, all cost was provided by Netflix.
But by the time the postage cost got higher, it heavily affected Netflix revenue. Later on, the CEO of
Netflix Reed Hastings implemented a new business strategy with a new website. The customers
needed to pay differently for streaming, rentals or together. DVD rental would be followed by
Quikster and was offered by new website. These changes affected the customers adversely. Therefore
millions of customer canceled their subscription. Afterwards, CEO Reed Hastings canceled the new
strategy and kept the same options as it was before but with higher price. After this, a lot more
customers got back to Netflix and realized that the higher price is well intentioned. At this point, the
CEO Reed Hastings was unable to recognize the changes that made millions of customers cancel their
subscription as well as depositors. Video on demand is going to be more of an issue because it allows
the audience to see movie clip just per click. This is totally against the Netflix

Speaking in Tongues in Acts Essay
SPEAKING IN TONGUES IN ACTS
INTRODUCTION Speaking in tongues has been a very controversial subject for many churches for
decades. The Pentecostal Churches have a positive outlook on this subject, but many other Churches
believe speaking in tongues is not for today s believers.
THE DAY OF PENTECOST When the day of Pentecost had fully come, they were all with one
accord in one place. And suddenly there came a sound from heaven, as of a rushing mighty wind, and
it Filled the whole house where they were sitting. Then there appeared to them divided Tongues, as of

The witness is not just the power to preach the gospel; the first result of the coming of the Holy Spirit
is the ability to speak in other tongues.
THE HEAVENLY LANGUAGE So what do interpreters who understand tongues as ecstatic utterance
do with Acts 2? Those who believe that tongues can be either foreign languages or heavenly languages
have no trouble explaining the relation of Acts 2 to 1 Corn. 12 14. In one instance the tongues were
foreign languages and in the other they were heavenly languages, but it was still the same basic
phenomenon of Spirit inspired speech. 6 These interpreters have trouble understanding the foreign
languages at Pentecost as a miracle, so they suggest that Luke may have added the foreign language
motif in order to make the phenomenon more intelligible and rational or in order to emphasize the
theological theme that the gospel would be preached to all nations. 7 The heavenly language was and
is used to pray to Jesus when we want to have fellowship with Jesus. The Holy Spirit can help us to
communicate with Him in a very special way. Jesus provides a spiritual language to make up for what
our natural minds do not know or comprehend. His spirit intercedes directly with our reborn spirit, and
can also provide an interpretation of what was said. This gift is a personal, private, and individual
prayer language provided by Jesus himself for our

A Brief Biography Of Thurgood Marshall
In 1908, Thurgood Marshall was born in Baltimore, Maryland to Norma and Willie. Norma, his
mother, was a schoolteacher and his father, Willie, was a railroad porter and a steward at a Maryland
country club. On the southern rim of the Mason Dixon line, the Baltimore of Marshall s boyhood was
rigidly segregated. But there was also a thriving black business district and a well organized black

Marshall attended Lincoln University, which was an all black school. The state university in Baltimore
was segregated, so Marshall commuted by train to all black Howard University Law School in
Washington, D.C. At sunrise, Marshall caught the train to Washington; he often took the last train

Water Pollution Essay
Heavy pollution can be found all across China, though it is more concentrated in the east than
anywhere else. But where does all of this pollution come from? Many people would assume that it is
generated only urban or industrial areas(This is also true for air pollution); however, farmers play a
big role in polluting the water. With a fast growing population and economy farmers are required to
produce more crops every year. This has led them into using organochlorine pesticides which was
heavily used in the 1950s to the 1970s to control agricultural and get rid of mosquitoes. According to
Farmers continue to use harmful chemicals such as polychlorinated biphenyls which is used for
lubrication on farming equipment such as tractors, air compressors, pumps, and other agricultural
machinery however it was later found to be harmful to the environment and cause cancer to animals
(ATSDR). The list continues on with polybrominated diphenyl ethers which is a flame retardant,
polychlorinated dibenzo p dioxins which is used as a herbicide, and ammonium perfluorooctanoate
which is a pesticide. With all of these chemicals in the water it puts China at one of the highest
polluted countries on earth. Due to the high amount of pollution in the water it makes China s water
resources very limited as it has been quoted that only 20 25% of China s water is actually consumable

Why Did Thoreau Use Satire
Thoreau repeatedly utilizes satire to mock violent conflicts and show the futility and insignificance of
wars between disparate groups, which directly applies to racial tensions and the presidential debate in
today s American society. Thoreau mocks conflict during the time by comparing it to an ant war,
demonstrating the unimportance of the issues. Thoreau compares a war of ants to the conflict between
two political parties: Republicans and Imperialists. While using satire to mock modern day conflicts of
the time, Thoreau states, I have no doubt that it was a principle they fought for, as much as our

A conflict over a three penny tax will have as much of an impact on American history as the battle of

significant battles of the Revolutionary War over the siege of Boston, but a disagreement over a
meaningless task can cause a war just as tolling. An issue as insignificant as a small tax can lead to

Romeo And Juliet Light And Dark Imagery Essay
Shakespeare s Romeo and Juliet contributes a portion of its prosperity due to it s almost exaggerated
use of dramatic irony and Light and Dark Imagery, which introduces an almost eccentric way for
Romeo and Juliet to express their newfound love. Imagery, perhaps the most common example of any
literary devices, is the articulate formation of words to develop a vivid scene in the reader s mind.
There are many subcategories of imagery, albeit this particular essay will specifically cover his
continuous usage of Light and Dark Imagery , which are forms of imagery that reference nouns
resembling literal light objects in conjunction with being good objects, and dark objects being bad
objects. Interestingly enough, just how Light and Dark imagery are polar opposites, the family feud
between the Capulet and Montague family compose of most of the conflicts in this play. However,
Light and Dark imagery are also used to convey and even exaggerates Romeo s love for Juliet, and
Juliet s love for Romeo. The second scene primarily consists of Romeo and his remarks for Juliet, as
seen here: It is the east, and Juliet is the sun/Arise, fair sun, and kill the moon (2.2.4 5) It is evident
that this quotation by Romeo has examples of both light and dark imagery. Romeo metaphorically

Comparing The Necklace And Popular Mechanics
Appreciation and communication are two of the major downfalls in any kind of relationship. Without
these two it s hard to maintain a balance because one or both partners have expectations, greed, and
blame others for the way things are. After having read The Necklace received by Mauppassant and
Popular Mechanics by Carver, greed, lack of communication, and envy are the main key points of
both of these two stories. In the short story, The Necklace Mme. Loisel goes through a lot trying to
pay back a necklace that was not even worth the debt she had to pay. In the Popular Mechanics story,
there was a miscommunication where both the parents tore a baby apart because they both wanted the
baby but the mom didn t want the baby to be by the father.
Although both stories end differently, they share the same theme and demonstrate an important life
lesson. When you don t have communication, are greedy, and can t appreciate what you have, things
can become chaotic and one my end up bearing the consequence .

I Have Long Advocated For Social Equality
I have long advocated for social equality and been aware of the prevalence of racism. However, my
forethought now seems insignificant compared to the degree of racism that James W. Loewen suggests
is indoctrinating the minds and classrooms of America s youth. Loewen takes readers on an
enlightening journey through his book, Lies My Teacher Told Me: Everything Your American History
Textbook Got Wrong, that intends to expose the false claims and lack of information in standard
American high school history textbooks. He aims to set the record straight on how and why American
history is so misrepresented and why it is important to represent history accurately and not limitedly.
Throughout the book, he largely focuses on the shortcomings or outright fallacies of historical
textbooks in regards to racism, government, colonialism, and patriotism. Loewen serves this book to
bring about institutional change where he feels that it is needed and to stress the importance of factual
historical information and realpolitik. He displays vast amounts of logical and thoroughly descriptive
anecdotes and facts, however, the scrambled organization of his topics, and his clear devotion and
passion for the theme of social justice and anti racism present the problem of bombardment.
Furthermore, he does not appeal to his suggested audience in adequate rhetorical manner that is
consistent with his declared purpose of the book.

suggested they should get the book and read more about the story. As Cindy was finishing her
remarks, Paul who played on the school football team hollered out and said, that is the answer. Every

Paul told them the planned he thought about. Paul shared with them that they should steal the ground

an early spring and more fun during the warm weather. Isabel said to Paul that is the dumbest ideal we
ever heard of from you. Our parents would kill us doing something like that besides it is only a legend.

Similarities Between Jason And Odysseus
This mythological character was saved as an infant to be raised as a true hero. He made the most
dangerous journeys in order to keep an unfit leader out of position. From day one without knowing it,
he was going to live a life being a hero. Jason, son of Aeson, was in danger when he was born. He was
fortunately saved, and later in life followed in his father s footsteps. He set an example to never give
up on what you want, or what you are meant to do. Keep trying in life and make an effort to do
anything it takes. Jason s sister saved his life when he was an infant by calling out to one of the
cherished Gods. Jason was part of the family that was ordered to be killed so they could not overtake
the throne from Pelias. He needed saving, but was only a small child and was helpless. Hera, a
cherished God, answered the sister of Jason when she cried out three times for help. Hera then handed
Jason over to Centaur Chiron who was known as the wisest and justest of all of the centaurs. By being
raised by such a role model, Jason grew up to be so determined not to let the throne be taken over by
someone who wasn t fit. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Pelias was not willing to give the throne positioning to a family member of Aeson. Jason was going to
be the person to take over this position from day one, after he grew up, but Pelias hindered that when
he ordered the family of Aeson to be put to death. Jason grew up and learned that he was able to take it
over. So he went to Pelias about the throne. Even though he would have to work to get through things
with Pelias, he was very driven to make the position for the throne. He was raised by heros and had
very good qualities, such as good judgement and a person who would never give

Present Day In American Culture
This essay has had a deliberate focus on gnomic, historical quotes in order to emphasise the
importance of the past. In truth, however, so much of history is unrecorded, so many lines of it
unrecorded. Without archaeology, all information on proto historic civilisations would only be from
written accounts, and there would be no information whatsoever on prehistoric civilisations.
Archaeology can even serve to explain modern trends. The present day has been influenced so much
by the past that the two are inextricably linked, and learning about the past can tell so much about the
present today. Equally, so much about the past can be explained using present rituals. Some Native
Americans have traditions that can be traced back thousands of years

The team that was surveyed was the Rivercrest High School English professional learning community,
heretofore referred to in this paper as the English PLC. The purpose of the survey was to collect data
with the goal of improving the working relationship of the English PLC, with the ultimate goal of
improving the educational opportunities afforded to Rivercrest students. Out of the seven surveys that
were sent out, six were completed. Of the six teachers, none were male, and none were minority. The
teachers ranged in experience from seven years to 40 years. Three of the teachers (T1, T2, and T5)
have master s degrees, and three of the teachers have bachelor s degrees. T5 and T6 teach at the junior
high level. Copies of the surveys were printed and placed them in the teacher s mailboxes. Attached to
the survey was a questionnaire that asked for years of service and education information. The surveys
were submitted anonymously. Teacher Code Years of Experience Educational Level National Board

Lowell Mills Industry Analysis
Getting chosen to work in the Lowell Mills was a gift many young girls in the New England States
initially aspired to achieve. The Lowell Mills was a group of factories built in the 1820 s for the
manufacture of textiles (GilderLehrman.org, 2015). Increasing population numbers in the United
States required more goods made from cotton that required milling and weaving into useable products.
Expanding on roles women performed during the War of 1812 and wanting additional compensation
and recognition for their work, young girls left their families and went to work in one of these mills.
Enticing the girls with promises of tolerable working conditions, a formal education, and comfortable
living quarters, the owners of the factories were able to recruit the girls at a lesser wage than what was
paid to men (Tindall Shi, 2013). Eventually rapid growth and unfavorable working conditions led
others to question whether factory work was the proper work environment for young girls. ... Show

Young girls and women worked thirteen hour days, six days a week in extremely hazardous, unsafe
conditions (Tindall Shi, 2013). As the number of mills grew and competition increased, the Lowell
Mill workers were expected to work harder for lesser amounts of money and fewer benefits. Suffering
from less pay, harder work, and additional pay decreases, the Lowell Mill employees organized strikes
to combat the treatment they were receiving (Tindall Shi, 2013). Having to organize themselves to
protect the rights they had originally expected; a formal education, exposure to culture, and the
opportunity to use this information to enhance and improve their lives in the future, was lost when
they had to endure the unpleasantness of factory

Write An Essay On The Sonoran Desert
There is another well known cactus is the Sonoran Desert, the barrel cactus, which is also the most
commonly found cactus in the desert. This kind of cactus can normally grow to a height of 5 to 11
feet. It has a cylinder shaped body, sometimes it is even bigger than a man. From April through June,
the flowers bloom at the top of the plant. Normally, the flower is yellow green or red, but the color
may vary depending on different species. The barrel cactus has numerous ridges going down the sides.
These ridges are covered with long sharp spines, which prevent, on one hand, the water loss in the dry
heat weather, on the other hand, the thirsty animals in the desert as well as mankind. Like the Saguaro
cactus, the barrel cactus is also a source

Yasser Arafat Research Paper
Yasser Arafat In The Move Toward a Palestinian State
Yasser Arafat was born into a Palestinian family in Egypt in 1929. Even in his early life he began
fighting from age eighteen onwards, first the British, then the Israelis. At the age of thirty he founded a
magazine in 1959 which aimed to create and identity for the Palestinians living in camps. This was a
good way of giving the people publicity and also shows that his original motives when he was young
were good.
As time went on, Arafat s actions began to contradict his early good intentions as he set up Al Fatah, a
guerrilla movement that set up guerrilla cells to launch attacks into Israel. This already made him look

He gained respect for the Palestinian cause.
Apparently realising his tactics were ineffective; in 1974 he opted for a new strategy. He was allowed
to access the UN claiming I have come bearing an olive branch and a freedom fighter s gun. Do not let
the olive branch fall from my hand. This quote sums up Arafat s ambivalence. He claims he wants
peace but if that requires terror, he seems prepared for anything. However the fact that he mentioned
the olive branch, a symbol for peace, gave good publicity for the cause and this was also the first time
a Palestinian had managed to speak to the UN so this was an important step in the fight for a
Palestinian state because there would be a chance for discussion.
In 1982 Israel attacked the Lebanon and Arafat fled. His leadership was weak but the upshot of the
attacks was support gained from various parties. In 1987 Arafat seemed to change his tactics once
more, making him look all the more fickle and unstable. He announced Intifada and at last respected
the right for Israel to exist and renounced terror. At the time this showed that Arafat wanted to gain
international respect and again would allow discussion, the possibility of peace and a move towards a
Palestinian state.
When the Gulf war began in 1990, Arafat made the massive mistake of siding with Saddam

Graffiti And Street Art By Christine Graff
From the early humans who painted on cave walls to the angst ridden teenager getting their kicks from
spray painting profanities on the side of a small business, human beings seem to have an intrinsic
desire to paint images on the walls that surround them. This has led to many individuals painting on
walls without permission. Although the walls cannot speak, city officials and the owners of businesses
can and when they do, Graffiti is usually one of the words used to describe the images produced.
However, although often overlooked, a line does exist between graffiti and street art. Christine Graff
writes Graffiti is defined as writing or drawings scribbled, scratched, or sprayed illicitly on a wall or
other surface in a public ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Street art is a viable way to breathe life into suffering areas of a town. A prime example of this in
action is the Wynwood Walls project started by Tony Goldman, who saw the massive empty walls of
the warehouses in the Wynwood district of Miami, Florida as massive canvases. Goldman sought to
bring the best street artists from all over the world in order to not only revitalize a mostly dead district,
but also to legitimize street art, which he felt was minimalized and often looked down upon. The area
has now become an international tourist attraction, bringing in those who wish to see the massive
murals that populate the area (About Wynwood Walls).
Another urban rejuvenation project called the Heidelberg Project, founded in 1986 by Tyree Guyton,
has become a tourist attraction and a source of local pride.
Guyton returned to Heidelberg Street and was upset at the state of his childhood home. Drugs, racism
and violence had turned the once average neighborhood into a desolate ghetto. With encouragement
from his grandfather, Guyton decided that he would take action and attempt to turn the dying
neighborhood into a thriving community. Guyton, his grandfather and the neighborhood children
worked together to clean up the neighborhood and use the objects collected during the cleanup to turn
the neighborhood into a vibrant piece of art. The project, although destroyed multiple times,

The song, All Star by Smash mouth is about how it s ok to be different because no one can succeed by
being normal and average. This theme is represented many times throughout the song with metaphors
and some imagery with a little personification. These examples express this theme by saying funny
and childish sayings to explain a more powerful meaning. The theme being different is ok is shown
throughout the song by using literary devices. Firstly, Steve Harwell sings I ain t the sharpest tool in
the shed to express that he isn t perfect and that he s not the best. He follows this with the saying you

how appreciation affects interest rates and exchange rates
1. Explain the how appreciation affects interest rates and exchange rates. How does this influence
commodity currency? Should we return to a gold standard? Why or why not?
Business dictionary defines an exchange rate as the rate at which one currency can be exchanged for
another. In other words, it is the value of another country s currency compared to that of your own. If
you are planning a trip to travel abroad this is something that needs to be calculated along the trip,
because in order to purchase goods or services while aboard one would need to purchase the local
currency. Just like the price of any asset, the exchange rate is the price at which you can buy that
currency. If you are traveling within Europe, for example, and ... Show more content on

For instance, if the dollar depreciates relative to the euro, the exchange rate rises. When the dollar
depreciates relative to the euro, the dollar becomes more competitive because the price of American
goods when exchanged to euro will be cheaper leading to a larger American export. On the other hand,
European countries that denominate its goods and services in Euros will have lost competitiveness to
the dollar. The price of European products will thus become more expensive in America. A currency
appreciates as a result of increased demand for that currency on world markets. Its value in the world
market increases. This increase in demand can occur for several reasons which include: When a
country s exports are high, the buyers of these exports need its currency to pay for those exports. Also
when the country s central bank increases interest rates, people will want that currency to deposit in
the banks to earn that higher interest rate. The higher the interest rate the stronger the currency.
Gold standard Between 1870 and 1914, there was a global fixed exchange rate. Currencies were
linked to gold, meaning that the value of a local currency was fixed at a set exchange rate to gold
ounces. This was known as the gold standard. This allowed for unrestricted capital mobility as well as
global stability in currencies and trade. However, with the start of World War I, the gold standard was
abandoned. To help combat the Great Depression, faced

Borders Thomas King Analysis
Often in literature authors try to explain the concept of identity. Most of these authors have stated that
Identity is the life that we live, the source of our pride, and dignity. These authors are correct, as pride
and dignity, is the only thing many people live for. Even William Shakespeare, had the pride to make
his own coat of arms, to represent his identity after Hamnet, his only heir died. Thomas King the
author of the short story Borders explains his view of the human condition specifically depicting to
readers the reality of comprimization of identity for a version of practicality. Through modulated
dialogue, King sets the mood of the short story. King uses both direct and indirect characterization, to
exemplify his conceptual idea, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Laetita s mother thinks that the mountains are closer on the reserve in blackfoot , but contradicting her
mother Laetita states that the mountains are close in salt lake city as well in English. The two different
meanings are the obvious reason that Laetita wants to walk away from her mother, her tradition and
heritage, creating the atmosphere of a bird leaving the nest, and how Laetita s generation wants to
assimilate with the western society, and not stand proud for their identity and heritage. This becomes a
major factor, as Laetita sees her mother on the news, and wants to come back to the reserve,
symbolising Laetita s realisation for pride. King also emphasizes this idea through Laetita stating her
response in English, as English is the cultural norm, for all societies, and cultures, while Laetita s
mother states her question in blackfoot . The mother is unhappy that her own daughter is turning on
her heritage, which the mother holds in high regard. The protagonist s mother tells her son stories and
legends, which she insists were true , which is another representation of the mother s identity, through
pride and dignity. We get the sense that the mother s identity is

Circuit Conditioning Is A Workout Scheme
Tabata circuit conditioning is a workout scheme which was founded by Doctor Izumi Tabata from the
National Institute of Sports and Fitness in Tokyo, in 1996 (Tabata et al., 1996). The first stages of the
Tabata circuit began in the midst of coaching the Japanese speed skating team as he conducted a study
using an interval based training model (Tabata et al., 1996). The main objective of the research
conducted in 1996 was to identify whether it was possible to improve the performance of his elite
levelled skating team by using a certain protocol. As a result, Doctor Izumi was able to create a time
efficient workout which builds muscle, burns fat and increases VO2 max (Tabata et al., 1996). The
workout is a combination of eight short repeated exercises which last a total of four minutes. The eight
intervals are broken down into twenty seconds of intense exercise, followed by a ten second rest
(Tabata et al., 1996). With academic evidence, this literature review will analyse Tabata circuit and
establish how it has progressed from use for aerobic training to then into a workout.
According to the American council on exercise (2016), An effective cardiovascular and muscular
conditioning program can be accomplished in a short period of time, but only if the level of intensity
is extremely high . Dr Tabata uses this technique in his infamous Tabata workout scheme.
Furthermore, tabata implemented this as he created his training experiments. The first experiment was

Cognitivism And Constructivism Paper
Learning theories is a way of explaining how we learn to acquire, retain, and recall knowledge. By
learning the different learning theories, teachers are able to us them as a guideline to make teaching
tools and to strategies instructional techniques in the classroom. This paper will be comparing and
contrasting three learning theories Behaviorism, Cognitivism, and Constructivism. Behaviorism is a
theory that originated from the works of Ivan Pavlov s classical conditioning and B.F. Skinner s
Operant Conditioning. The belief is that Behaviors are learned and changed through associations

Zone of Proximal Development by Vygotsky is problem solving skills of tasks can be placed into three
categories. Those perform tasks independently, those that can perform tasks with the help of others
those that cannot perform tasks at all. Jean Piaget introduced Cognitive Constructivism. Cognitive
Constructivism is knowledge constructed by either assimilation or accommodation. In assimilation,
incoming information is associated with a schema. In accommodation, incoming information does not
match a schema.
The advantage of constructivism is for problem solving and able to interpret and create new ideas
from personal knowledge. Learning is all about hands on activities. There is a sense of ownership
when hands on learning occurs instead of just being told to the information. Students primarily work
in groups. The curriculum is presented whole to part with emphasis on a bigger picture. Unlike the
cognitivism, Constructivism is a student base learning vs teacher base learning. The teachers are
facilitators and students learn by doing group work such as case studies, research projects, and
problem base learning. Students learn to brainstorm, collaborate with each other to learn through

  • 2. Mackie s Theory Of Moral Skepticism Moral skepticism is defined as the denial of objective moral standards is correct, and that morality therefore lacks any real authority (Shafer Landau). The concept of objectivity plays a part in the theory of moral standards. Objectivity is used in the sense that a subject exists without its perception, and that one can come to the same conclusion as everyone else given the same sources/information. An object is in existence despite of any opinions or matters, which is why this principle is closely associated with being reality and truth. Philosopher Mackie has a specific opinion on the ethical theory called subjectivism or moral skepticism that discusses the falsehood of moral claims. Mackie developed the principle of subjectivism, which states that morals claims do not exist. There is nothing in this ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Relativity is used to discuss that moral codes are diverse and differ from societies. This argument starts with the view that moral opinions vary among many people. Since there is not a universal agreement on values, then values can t be objective. He uses relativity in response to cultural relativism and states that individuals and groups don t come to their values and reflect way of life; people practice their way of life and then come to their values. Different morals come from different ways of life instead of having different views on moral beliefs. With this being said, if objective values aren t the reason for moral beliefs, then there is no reason to believe in ethical claims. The argument of queerness can take form being metaphysical. The metaphysical concept states that if there is such a thing of objective values, they wouldn t be like anything else. If these values were to exist, they would be really queer and unusual. If objective values did occur, one would need a unique, moral sense, but ultimately objective values can t exist since they can t be ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. My Experience Of My Life It was the summer of 15. Filled with travel, laughter, and smiles. But, at that time I didn t pay attention or even cherish those moments. Now, I truly know how much I miss the feeling of being that happy all the time. School was out. Everyone just waiting for the clock to hit the 12, that s when everything in my life changed. It was my first time going on my airplane. My first time being in a car for more than 8 hours. It was my very first firsts. I m not going to lie. That scared me. You know. Experiencing something for the first time. That s a tough job. But anyways, that s the background to this very important part of my life. During this time, I saw happiness beaming off of everyone s face and saw no bad in people. I wish I thought this way now. High School changed my perspective a lot. The stress is at its ultimatum. It just doesn t want to stop. I constantly am in books, studying for a test, in books, memorizing a poem, or in books because I generally have nothing to do. All I want is to go back to the time that I explored something every day. With a friend or just with my family. Summer was great. I also had my first experience at an overnight summer camp. Let me tell you more about that. The car ride to the buses was filled with emotion. It was the first time that I would leave my family for a whole week. I was still in the 7th grade so that was a big wave of independence instantly coming my way. I honestly thought that I wasn t going to survive. What would I ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

She has a generous heart and strong independence. You know, most people don t really know me. ~Marilyn Monroe. This quote is true for many people. We think we know who she is, but once you start asking questions you find things you never thought would be true. Never judge a book by it s cover, My dinners at home are startlingly simple. Every night, I stop at the market near my hotel and pick up some steak, lamb chops or some liver, which I boil in the electric oven in my room. Marilyn Monroe did an abundance of things for others in need. She performed at the Hollywood Bowl for a fundraising event to help underprivileged children at St. Jude hospital. She worked with the World Adoption International Fund to help more than 50,000 abandoned kids get adopted. The one thing that is remarkable is perfectly said by Andrew Mersmann This one is well known: Marilyn visited an orphanage in Mexico and wrote a check for $1000 while the press was there and after they left she tore it up and wrote a new one for $10,000. Visual Analysis Of Cahokia As a representative artist of Cahokia, my duty is to draw and paint the everyday weather of the region near the Mississippi River and to express the daily routine and lifestyle of the Cahokians through aesthetic works such as documenting pictures or using writing letters on the wall as an essential record for the Cahokian government. After the abundant food production in Cahokia, various people from different regions visited and adapted in the new kind of civilization. People created colorful wooden homes, monuments, and towers to praise the grateful weather as it provided right amount of sunlight, rain and wind in order to grow crops to satisfy and fulfil the stomachs of large population. Moreover, the climate did not have abnormal patterns throughout most of the periods. • 6. Angelina Grimke Catharine Beecher Angelina Grimke s public appeal for the institution of the human rights of all moral beings is ultimately superior to Catharine Beecher s doctrine of female supremacy limited to the domestic sphere. Both women are visionaries of their era offering contrasting views of women s proper place in society as well as their moral duties. History has proven that Grimke is unwaveringly the contest winner of this debate . Compelling reasons for Grimke s historical success can be seen in the women s differing contextual arguments, the effective use of rhetorical mediums, and the personal embodiment of beliefs. Angelina E. Grimke s Letters to Catharine Beecher is a contrasting response to Beecher s Essay on Slavery and Abolitionism, which was ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Angelina also used her voice to spread her message by making an emotional connection with her audiences. Her followers could relate to her sincerity as well as observe the unusual religious inspiration in her speaking . This tool of public speech also aided her cause in the form of visible opposition to her lectures. By combining the mediums of literacy and speech, Angelina Grimke could not be ignored. These two means of rhetorical persuasion proved to be a powerful language in her commitment to social reform. Another factor of Angelina s progress is the radical nature of her arguments and the generation of loud opposition. Success raises up opponents . Angelina Grimke represented the most radical and controversial themes of her time. Not only was she a female Southern abolitionist and a champion of women s suffrage, she publically proclaimed her contentious ideas to the masses. The very idea of speaking to mixed audiences was a social taboo . Women did not speak publically, certainly on political issues; these matters were seen to be too far above them. • 7. Annalee Newitz sWhen Will White People Stop Making Movies... In the 21st century, movies have become a platform for ideas and themes to be conveyed through a screen. Themes of change, environmental crisis, love, and death are all only a few of the most common themes that circulate through the Hollywood film industry. According to Annalee Newitz in her essay When Will White People Stop Making Movies Like Avatar? , a recurring theme she s noticed is the theme of white guilt. In her essay, Newitz depicts the movie Avatar as nothing more than a colorful rehash of this (apparently) common white guilt scenario. This is where the main white protagonist leaves the oppressive (white) side to join the oppressed native side upon seeing the error of his ways. Some Americans, including Newitz, believe that movies like Avatar possess an underlying motive, which includes keeping the white guilt fantasy alive and trying to promote the idea of leading people of color from the inside rather than from the outside (Newitz). The true question is whether or not there really is that underlying motive, or if it is just a fabrication based upon personal bias. The first point I noticed Newitz bring up was that, in white guilt fantasies, the main white character always seems to become the leader of the indigenous group they join. While Jake Sully the main character of the film did eventually become the leader of the Na vi (the native blue aliens that inhabited the moon Pandora before the humans came to infiltrate it), this has absolutely nothing to do ... The Trickster Essay The Trickster Karl Jung s explanation for the archetypes that surface in cultural and religious literature is that they are the product of what he calls the collective unconsciousness. That thread of consciousness that connects all human beings and cultures around the world. Yet it is not visible to the naked eye, one must look for the signs of it by researching cultures who are long gone and comparing them to each other and our own. Studying it reminds us that all humans are bound together by a common source. The quot;Trickster quot; is an archetype that surfaces in many cultural and religious stories. He is always attempting to fly (which is the sign of a god to the Native Americans) with disastrous consequences. No matter how hard he tries he cannot escape the human condition. Perhaps these stories are meant to teach Native Americans not to aspire to be anything more than human. The Trickster can be seen as a parody of the Shaman, or the spiritual leader of the tribe. The Shaman looks to the supernatural for his strength while the coyote relies on his own wits. The coyote is always looking for the short cut. Through meditation the Shaman is said to be able to fly. This is a sign of his divinity. The coyote always has an elaborate scheme for flight, like hitching a ride with a buzzard, but the end is always the same.( p.87 Hynes and Doty) Does this character sound familiar? Millions of kids grew up with this very same character, but we knew him as Wile Coyote. The Looney Toons character that was always after the Road Runner. The creators of him were interested in the comedic value they saw in Native American stories and adapted him into a cartoon. Wile would come up with some elaborate schemes, but in the end the result was always the same. The long fall from the cliff to the ground. • 9. Sonnet 116 and Love Is Not All William Shakespeare s Sonnet 116 and Edna St. Vincent Millay s Love Is Not All both attempt to define love, by telling what love is and what it is not. Shakespeare s sonnet praises love and speaks of love in its most ideal form, while Millay s poem begins by giving the impression that the speaker feels that love is not all, but during the unfolding of the poem we find the ironic truth that love is all. Shakespeare, on the other hand, depicts love as perfect and necessary from the beginning to the end of his poem. Although these two authors have taken two completely different approaches, both have worked to show the importance of love and to define it. However, Shakespeare is most confident of his definition of love, while Millay seems ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... These are all things that we must have in order to survive, but even though love can give us none of these things, Millay then goes on to say that many men are dying because of a lack of love: Yet many a man is making friends with death / Even as I speak, for lack of love alone (8 9). It important to note that the buildup of what love cannot do is necessary for the dramatic declaration that we need love regardless of how useless it may seem. This is a cleaver ploy by Millay because although she has effectively shown how worthless love is on a physical level, she has also effectively shown how necessary love is on an emotional level. It is important to note that the first eight lines are a part of a single sentence. This is important because it means that if we remove the repeated poetic verse found within these lines, we discover that Millay is simply saying Love is not all... / Yet many a man is making friends with death / Even as I speak, for lack of love alone (1 8) . This is a justifiable conclusion because after the words Love is not all the author uses a colon, which means that the lines following are simply a definition for what she means by Love is not all (1) . When put in such simple terms, it s easy to see how this is almost indistinguishable from saying, Love is not all, but it would be better to be dead than not have it. The second half of the poem is very different from the beginning half because the lines that follow the first sentence ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 10. Similarities Between The Rome And The Han Dynasty The Han Dynasty and Imperial Rome were two greatly advanced civilizations for their time period and their success was no fluke. Both dynasties gained their success through a handful of varying ideas and strategies involving the economy, military, and social structures. However, one of the greatest factors that determined the respective dynasty s futures was their methods of political control. The Han Dynasty and Roman Empire agreed on some major aspects and ideas of politics, but also had diverging views on a few subjects. For example, one major topic both groups disagreed on is the form of government. Some examples of subjects they both agreed on was the focus on infrastructure and trade. One thing that most major political states throughout history can agree on is the importance of trading, not only within the state but with outside states as well. Both the Roman Empire and the Han Dynasty were large participants in trade, not only within their states but with outside states as well. The Han Dynasty exemplifies this by showing their great amount of effort to get involved in the Silk Road. The Han Dynasty went to the extent of expanding the wall into the route of the Silk Road. Metaphorically speaking, this is the Han Dynasty s way of sticking their foot in the Silk Road and regional trade. This was first done in the Han Dynasty because the leaders knew the necessity for trade and its power to keep their government and society thriving. The Romans were also greatly ... The subscription package consisted of the mailing cost of the DVD, which would be streaming on any device that was compatible with Netflix software. In the beginning, all cost was provided by Netflix. But by the time the postage cost got higher, it heavily affected Netflix revenue. Later on, the CEO of Netflix Reed Hastings implemented a new business strategy with a new website. The customers needed to pay differently for streaming, rentals or together. DVD rental would be followed by Quikster and was offered by new website. These changes affected the customers adversely. Therefore millions of customer canceled their subscription. Afterwards, CEO Reed Hastings canceled the new strategy and kept the same options as it was before but with higher price. After this, a lot more customers got back to Netflix and realized that the higher price is well intentioned. The Pentecostal Churches have a positive outlook on this subject, but many other Churches believe speaking in tongues is not for today s believers. THE DAY OF PENTECOST When the day of Pentecost had fully come, they were all with one accord in one place. And suddenly there came a sound from heaven, as of a rushing mighty wind, and it Filled the whole house where they were sitting. Then there appeared to them divided Tongues, as of fire, and one sat upon each of them. And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The witness is not just the power to preach the gospel; the first result of the coming of the Holy Spirit is the ability to speak in other tongues. THE HEAVENLY LANGUAGE So what do interpreters who understand tongues as ecstatic utterance do with Acts 2? Those who believe that tongues can be either foreign languages or heavenly languages have no trouble explaining the relation of Acts 2 to 1 Corn. 12 14. In one instance the tongues were foreign languages and in the other they were heavenly languages, but it was still the same basic phenomenon of Spirit inspired speech. 6 These interpreters have trouble understanding the foreign languages at Pentecost as a miracle, so they suggest that Luke may have added the foreign language motif in order to make the phenomenon more intelligible and rational or in order to emphasize the theological theme that the gospel would be preached to all nations. 7 The heavenly language was and is used to pray to Jesus when we want to have fellowship with Jesus. The Holy Spirit can help us to communicate with Him in a very special way. Jesus provides a spiritual language to make up for what our natural minds do not know or comprehend. His spirit intercedes directly with our reborn spirit, and can also provide an interpretation of what was said. This gift is a personal, private, and individual prayer language provided by Jesus himself for our ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 15. Water Pollution Essay Heavy pollution can be found all across China, though it is more concentrated in the east than anywhere else. But where does all of this pollution come from? Many people would assume that it is generated only urban or industrial areas(This is also true for air pollution); however, farmers play a big role in polluting the water. With a fast growing population and economy farmers are required to produce more crops every year. This has led them into using organochlorine pesticides which was heavily used in the 1950s to the 1970s to control agricultural and get rid of mosquitoes. According to Farmers continue to use harmful chemicals such as polychlorinated biphenyls which is used for lubrication on farming equipment such as tractors, air compressors, pumps, and other agricultural machinery however it was later found to be harmful to the environment and cause cancer to animals (ATSDR). The list continues on with polybrominated diphenyl ethers which is a flame retardant, polychlorinated dibenzo p dioxins which is used as a herbicide, and ammonium perfluorooctanoate which is a pesticide. With all of these chemicals in the water it puts China at one of the highest polluted countries on earth. Due to the high amount of pollution in the water it makes China s water resources very limited as it has been quoted that only 20 25% of China s water is actually consumable or usable for agriculture/industrial use. Why Did Thoreau Use Satire Thoreau repeatedly utilizes satire to mock violent conflicts and show the futility and insignificance of wars between disparate groups, which directly applies to racial tensions and the presidential debate in today s American society. Thoreau mocks conflict during the time by comparing it to an ant war, demonstrating the unimportance of the issues. Thoreau compares a war of ants to the conflict between two political parties: Republicans and Imperialists. While using satire to mock modern day conflicts of the time, Thoreau states, I have no doubt that it was a principle they fought for, as much as our ancestors, and not to avoid a three penny tax on their tea; and the results of this battle will be as important and memorable ..... • 18. Romeo And Juliet Light And Dark Imagery Essay Shakespeare s Romeo and Juliet contributes a portion of its prosperity due to it s almost exaggerated use of dramatic irony and Light and Dark Imagery, which introduces an almost eccentric way for Romeo and Juliet to express their newfound love. Imagery, perhaps the most common example of any literary devices, is the articulate formation of words to develop a vivid scene in the reader s mind. There are many subcategories of imagery, albeit this particular essay will specifically cover his continuous usage of Light and Dark Imagery , which are forms of imagery that reference nouns resembling literal light objects in conjunction with being good objects, and dark objects being bad objects. Interestingly enough, just how Light and Dark imagery are polar opposites, the family feud between the Capulet and Montague family compose of most of the conflicts in this play. However, Light and Dark imagery are also used to convey and even exaggerates Romeo s love for Juliet, and Juliet s love for Romeo. The second scene primarily consists of Romeo and his remarks for Juliet, as seen here: It is the east, and Juliet is the sun/Arise, fair sun, and kill the moon (2.2.4 5) It is evident that this quotation by Romeo has examples of both light and dark imagery. Should we return to a gold standard? Why or why not? Business dictionary defines an exchange rate as the rate at which one currency can be exchanged for another. In other words, it is the value of another country s currency compared to that of your own. If you are planning a trip to travel abroad this is something that needs to be calculated along the trip, because in order to purchase goods or services while aboard one would need to purchase the local currency. When the dollar depreciates relative to the euro, the dollar becomes more competitive because the price of American goods when exchanged to euro will be cheaper leading to a larger American export. On the other hand, European countries that denominate its goods and services in Euros will have lost competitiveness to the dollar. The price of European products will thus become more expensive in America. A currency appreciates as a result of increased demand for that currency on world markets. Its value in the world market increases. This increase in demand can occur for several reasons which include: When a country s exports are high, the buyers of these exports need its currency to pay for those exports. Also when the country s central bank increases interest rates, people will want that currency to deposit in the banks to earn that higher interest rate. The higher the interest rate the stronger the currency. Gold standard Between 1870 and 1914, there was a global fixed exchange rate. The first stages of the Tabata circuit began in the midst of coaching the Japanese speed skating team as he conducted a study using an interval based training model (Tabata et al., 1996). The main objective of the research conducted in 1996 was to identify whether it was possible to improve the performance of his elite levelled skating team by using a certain protocol.
