Critical Thinking Paper: I assumed that I was looking for a house and I found three equally
wonderful houses in three cities that are located in different states of America. The first one was
the city of Cambridge located in the state of Massachusetts because you can easily live without a
car. I believe that cars cause pollution and I am against it. I believe, I can easily contribute by
choosing a house that is near my work place so that I can walk or bike easily. The second one was
the city of Miami located in the state of Florida because it is the warmest city in the U.S. It has
been really hard for me to keep up with the weather in winter because I am from one of ... Show

UCR helped me to find out more about the crimes reported in this area by the UCR so that I can
determine the different levels of security before choosing the best city to live in. For the city of
Cambridge that is located in the state of Massachusetts, I found out that it had the least rate of
part 1 crimes overall with 2692.2 part 1 crimes per 100000 people compared to both the city of
Miami that is located in the state of Florida and the city of New Haven which is located in the
state of Connecticut while the city of Miami that is located in the state of Florida had the most crime
rate of 5908.4 part 1 crimes per 100000 people. It is more than a half (UCR, 2015:1).
Considering the violent crimes rate Miami that is located in the state of Florida still has the
most rates of 1059.9 per 100000 people compared to 278.1 rates per 100000 people in the city of
Cambridge that is located in the state of Massachusetts, which has the least rate of violent
crimes(UCR, 2015:1). I believe that the best place for me to live in is in the city of Cambridge
in the state of Massachusetts. I made this decision basing myself more on the overall rate of
violent crime because I am more scared of the violent crimes since this is the type of crime that
can harm me. I looked at property crimes too but I was not so concerned because I can survive and
not get harmed at all, that s what I think is more

Narcotic Dressing Methods
Pain is the most predominant symptom experience after an injury and dressing changes only add to
the pain. A method is required to decrease the amount of pain during a dressing change to help
promote wound healing and increase hand function (Guo, Deng, Yang, 2014). Some of the
treatments we use presently in the hospital to decrease pain, such as analgesics, can cause
respiratory depression, decrease bloodpressure and other side effects (Guo et al., 2014, p.116).
Another treatment used is a narcotic dressing which can significantly increase the cost of treatment.
This study looks at the use of a nonpharmacological way of decreasing pain during a dressing
change by the use of virtual reality distraction. The purpose of this research study... Show more

Guo et al. s (2014) states that when analgesics are unavailable, this tool is convenient for nurses
to use. There are many resources necessary to implement virtual reality distraction. The study
used many devices including: a pair of ultra high resolution 3D glasses, headphones, mouse,
computer and the 3D film (Guo et al., 2014). These resources may not be readily available in
undeveloped Countries. They also may have a large cost that some hospitals may not be able to
afford. This can be another limitation in regards to who is able to access the resource. In the
future, knowing that a patient s pain can be relieved by nonpharmacological means will help
provide better care. Many patients do not like taking analgesics in fear that they will become
addicted. This method may help alleviate the patients anxiety since the fear of addiction is not
present if they are not taking analgesics. The institution that the patient is receiving care at may not
have the resources needed for virtual reality. However, knowing that the pain is decreased with
virtual reality distraction will allow nurses to adapt this method to what they have available. For
example, allowing the patient to watch television, listen to music, or play a game on their mobile
devise will help distract them during the dressing change.

The Legislative Process
The Legislative Process
The act of attempting to make a bill into a law is an arduous process with a large number of
written rules and procedures, the oldest of which date as far back as 1797, from Jefferson s
Manual (Paletz, Owen and Cook). The inspiration for the a bill can come from a variety of sources,
from the president of the United States to a personal experience of one of the members of the
House of Senate. There are any number of ways in which the aforementioned bill could fail before
becoming a law, however, there are many worthy causes that make the lengthy process a
worthwhile endeavor for the bill s sponsor.

Vasopressin Case Study
The oxidation of blood components by the oxygen released from erythrocytes may cause
hypothalamic pituitary adrenal insufficiency [67]. Primary and secondary adrenal insufficiency
occurs in patients with sepsis and is associated with a poor outcome [68 71]. Blood oxidation
affects the hypothalamo pituitary thyroidal axis, inactivating thyrotropine , thyroidgland hormones
(triiodothyronine(TT3), thyroxine (TT4) and their binding proteins. Thyroid hormoneregulates
metabolism and has impact on sepsis prognosis. The level of TT4 is lower in patients with septic
shock than in patients without septic shock [72 74]. De iodinations of iodothyronines play key
roles in metabolic regulation [75, 76].
Vasopressin (Antidiuretic hormone) also is oxidized by the oxygen released from erythrocytes.
Vasopressin plays a role in circulatory homeostasis and serum osmolality. Oxytocin and vasopressin
are oxidized with formation of dityrosine [77]. Its oxidation and depletion cause vasodilatory shock
a syndrome with high mortality [78 81]. Low expression levels of Angiotensin II and ACE

Albumin, a 66.5 kDa protein, is quantitatively the most important plasma protein [85]. Albumin is

The Enchanted Bluff Essay example
The Enchanted Bluff
The Enchanted Bluff , by Willa Cather, takes place in the bare cornfields of Nebraska during the
early 1900 s where only rivers liven up the landscape. Six boys delve into the idea of a city on
top of a bluff in the desert, they become captivated with the idea of visiting the bluff. The boys
eagerly discuss ways of dominating this mystifying bluff: throwing up a ladder, or using a rocket.
All the boys vow to get to the bluff some day. Twenty years pass and none visit it. One of the
young boys tells the story to his son and his son thinks of nothing else but the bluff. The author
does an excellent job of providing vivid imagery throughout the story, which helps the read to
capture a real sense of the town. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The reader gets a sense of how the boys lived when Cather mentions how, Tip worked hard in his
father s grocery store every afternoon, and swept it out before school in the morning, even his
recreations were laborious (Cather 413). When reading Cather s works, there is a feeling that she
taught the best of all philosophies, that of love, hard work, and courage (Wells) . Through the
tone of this story, the reader easily senses that this old fashioned town run with hard work and
honesty is careless. The author does an excellent job of describing individuals in the town such
as, Percy Pound who took half a dozen boys story papers and was always kept in reading
detective stories behind the desk (Cather 413). Cather s writing style shows an unhampered zest
for enjoyment (Wells). The reader gets the feeling that the character Percy Pound is a young laid
back inquisitive boy who likes adventures. Willa Cather not only uses local color to show
descriptions of the characters in the story but also in conveying the setting.
Willa Cather provides vivid imagery throughout the story to set the relaxed tone. The reader
imagines a very descriptive portrait of the boys hometown when the story mentions how the
oblique rays of the light made a dazzling glare on the white sand about us (Cather 411). Realities
and fantasies...her art is a method of preserving the wonder of youthful happiness (Wells). When
reading this Willa Cather paints a vivid portrait of where the six

The Influence of Ancient Greek Mythology on Modern Society...
Ancient Greek society fell over 2000 years ago but despite this, its mythology still continues to
influence our western society. References to Greek mythology can be found all through time and in
our western culture. The influence of Greek mythology can be found in our science, arts and
literature and our language. When Ancient Greece fell to the Roman Empire, Rome adapted its
mythologies which still influence us today as they have through history. That is not to say that
Greek mythologywasn t influenced itself Greek mythology has links with the bible and the early
Mycenaean s. It has also been recognised as one of the earliest forms of paganism.

Asides from the planets, many of the moons orbiting the planets, especially Jupiter (Zeus) have
been named according to Greek mythology. Pluto s moon Charon was named after the boat keeper
of the underworld, continuing the link between ancient Greek mythology and western society.
The influence of Greek mythology does not stop here, it continues into the stars and galaxies many
of which are named after characters in Greek mythology and this is how Greek mythology has
continually influenced western society over time.
However, Greek mythologies role in western society is not limited to our science, as it has also
played a huge part in developing the English language and phrases that we use.
There are two ways in which Greek mythology has affected the English language and that is in
words that reference Greek mythology and through phrases that represent the actions of characters
in Greek mythology.
Words such as an aphrodisiac something that arouses or intensifies sexual desire, stems from the
Aphrodite, the Greek goddess of love. Also linked with Aphrodite is Venereal disease (another
word for STI). This stems from the Roman term Venus which is the equivalent Aphrodite. Also, the
drug morphine its name comes from the Greek god of sleep, Morpheus. Its words such as these
that create the link between Greek mythology and western society. These are clear examples of

Disciplinary action refers to the actions ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Prevention is best done by making company standards known and understood in advance. The
basic objectives however is to encourage employee self discipline. In this way the employees
maintain their own discipline rather than have management impose it. Employees are more likely
to support standards that they have helped create. They also will give more support to standards
that are stated positively instead of negatively, and when they have been told the reasons behind a
standard so that it will make sense to them.
Corrective discipline:
Corrective discipline is action that follows infraction of a rule; it seeks to discourage further
infractions so that future act will be in compliance with standards. Typically the corrective action
is a penalty of some type and is called a disciplinary action. Examples are a warning or suspension
with or without pay.
POLICIES OF DISCIPLINARY ACTION
In any social system, irrespective of its nature, it is important for the participant to determine a set
of rules that will regulate the conduct of its members and should be observed in order to function
successfully.
Similarly so it is important in the workplace to determine a set of policies to regulate the
relationship between the employees and the employer in the form of a disciplinary procedure.
The code is based on the following principles:
The right of management to take appropriate disciplinary steps against any worker, who acts in a

is nervous but then proceeds to ask how being nervous makes him a madman. Ultimately, what is

Chromium Contaminants
Introduction
Contamination of the ecosystem by non regulated emerging contaminants such as heavy metals,
pesticide residue and organic compounds is a human and environmental health concern (Kabata
Pendias, 2010; Choppala et al., 2013). Several of these inorganic and organic compounds are not
efficiently removed through wastewater treatment. Soil and water resources contaminated by heavy
metals are a growing problem in various locations around the world. Even though at trace levels
several elements are natural components of soils, anthropogenic activities such as mining, industry,
and localized agriculture have contributed to undesirable toxic levels in the ecosystem (Meers et al.,

women cannot be true to themselves without being seen as mad. When Rochester reveals to

would not be accepted by Rochester. He also goes on to tell Jane that she drags him through all

The Role Of Tyranny In Ancient Greece
Though usually spoken about now in the same breath as invading armies and rampaging people,
tyranny has root in many cultures as an instrument of change brought about by the people. In
Ancient Greece, tyranny shaped the future of the nation, and the world by allowing the people,
though not by voting, to put a person of popular choice in charge. If a leader was oppressive or
cruel, the people would revolt and place one of their own on the throne, giving them more say. Most
tyrants were benevolent rulers, though there were some rogues, quickly replaced.
Recently the word tyranny has acquired some rather negative connotations, but it was instrumental
in moving Ancient Greece, Athens specifically, from an oligarchy to the first real democracy.

Agatha Christie s And Then There Were None
People have always said not to judge a book by its cover. Well disregard that because in order to
analyse a book cover, you have to judge it. The book And Then There Were None written by Agatha
Christie has many book jackets, some enticing and some not, but there is one in particular that
stands out. This book coverhas a good appearance that hints certain occurrences, it has the ability
to be alluring as well has having good font, but despite these great qualities, it does have a flaw or
two.
The first few good factors of this book cover is its representation and subtle giveaways. At first
glance, it is obvious that there are ten figures, however those who have not read the book yet
would not have been able to tell that they are soldier ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
First thing is the writing and the fact that Agatha Christie s name is not written on it. How is
someone supposed to know who the book is by if it is not written on the book. Besides the title,
having the author s name is one of the most important elements of the book jacket. Along with
that fault, there is the fact that, in spite of all the good features of the cover, there is no alluring
colors, it is just red and black. Maybe, if you re someone who likes dark stories and murder
mysteries then it ll allure you, but in order to appeal to everyone, there needs to be more than
just a black background with red China figures and blood. Also, the writing isn t so appealing, it
looks like it was scratched on. The writing could work for a horror story, but not a murder
mystery. Maybe going through those series of events was painful and terrifying for the characters,
but for the readers it is something that makes you want to keep reading. It keeps people hooked,
but in no way is the story frightening, if anything it is interesting. Nevertheless, these flaws do not
stop this book from being a good read.
Sometimes it is best to judge a book by its cover, because it can tell you a lot about the book. The
novel And Then There Were None written by Agatha Christie has had a lot of book jackets, and one
in particular stands out. The cover has an attractive appearance, captivating

Wuthering Heights Vs Thrushcross Grange
Many plays and novels use contrasting places. In Wuthering Heights, Emily Bronte sets the novel
around Wuthering Heights and Thrushcross Grange, two neighboring houses on the Yorkshire
Moors in England. Wuthering Heights and Thrushcross Grange are two different places with
completely different characteristics and vibes.
Wuthering Heights is home to Heathcliff, Catherine, Hindley, and Nelly. Wuthering Heights gives
off a more rebellious, free spirited vibe. It has a more country feel compared to Thrushcross
Grange. Wuthering Heights lacks hospitality and comfort. The people in Wuthering Heights
represent more wild, rebellious characters. Heathcliff and Catherine are great examples of this
free spirited, wild, and rebellious characters in how they run off together and just the way they live
their lives, especially when they were younger before Catherine married Edgar and moved to
Thrushcross Grange. The characters in Wuthering Heights also represent a more middle to lower

Drug Use And Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (...
Ritalin is a prescription drug used primarily in the treatment of behavioural problems in children
such as Attention deficit disorder (ADD) and Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD)
(National Drug Intelligence Centre 2006). It is estimated that 11 percent of Australians between
the ages of 6 to 17 are affected by ADD or ADHD and the amount of Ritalin being prescribed has
doubled in the last 10 years ( Schriever 2012). The brand name for Ritalin is methylphenidate, a
drug that stimulates the central nervous system. Its primary use is to stimulate the brain and
improve concentration, therefore helping the child control impulsive behaviour and overactivity
(Royal Children s Hospital Melbourne 2010). When a child is taken to see a doctor for
behavioural problems the General Practitioner will refer these children to a child phycologist or
paediatrician. They are then examined and asked a series of questions which inevitably leads to
being diagnosed with ADD or ADHD and leaving with a prescription for Ritalin (G Bell 2014).
This medication has been known to cause adverse side effects in many children. There is also the

realize that they are connected in a much less considerable way. Except the further I go into both
of their readings, the larger the effort I put into struggling with their problems, the more I
distinguish the weak trail of a connection here, a minor commonality there; the more I break the
ideas and become aware of the nearly unnoticeable thread of a relation connecting these two
apparently unequal ideas. Ultimately, this doesn t denote that I can plainly write anything or
declare any relation among both of them. It still requires rationalizing my creativity as well as
my vision, spot the verifications and evidence to completely shore up my hypothesis. In the end,

Wittgenstein states: Philosophy must not interfere in any way with the actual use of language, so it
can in the end only describe it. For it cannot justify it either. It leaves everything as it is
(Philosophical Investigations В§124). The same goes for Heidegger when he states this about what
philosophy is; To let what shows itself to be seen from itself, just as it shows itself from itself
(Being and Time p.58) It is essential to argue Heidegger s concepts of everydayness and worldliness,
and Wittgenstein s notion of phenomenological representation and language, which is most plainly
demonstrated in his separation between description and explanation. Undoubtedly, there is not a

The Influence Of Music On The Music Of America
The music of America has become very diverse, as it should be, with each person taking and
bringing influences from styles of music in the US and all over the world to create new blends.

anybody else will definitely turn a few heads. Some make it bigger than others, but the musictends

Essay On Women And African American History
To many people, America s history may appear to be a series of events shaped by the decisions and
actions of white men. However, this perspective fails to recognize the tremendous impacts that
minority groups had, have, and will have in shaping and influencing America s past, present, and
future. The Revolutionary War is an example of how women and African Americans played an
important role in critical events in American history. In the Revolutionary War, Americans fought
for freedom and independence from Britain, leading to the birth of our nation. Without the
contributions of women and African Americans, the Revolutionary War may not have been
successful, and American history may have followed a very different course. During the
Revolutionary War, the Patriot soldiers fighting for freedom needed help in many ways to support
their mission on and beyond the battleground. Women supported the Patriots in unique and
important ways. Document 1 contains an agreement that the Edenton Ladies Patriotic Guild
signed on October 27, 1774. It states, The provincial deputies of North Carolina having resolved
not to drink any more tea nor wear any more British cloth, etc. The Edenton Ladies agreement to
not buy or use any British goods offered a form of economic pressure, and strengthened the ability
of America to try to break away from the British rule. Women also supported the... Show more

Consciousness and Philosophers of the Mind
Consciousness and Philosophers of Mind
Consciousness is a word used by philosophers, to signify that immediate knowledge which we
have of our present thoughts and purposes, and, in general of all the operations of our mind...
[and] if I am asked to prove that I cannot be deceived by consciousness to prove that it is not a
fallacious sense I can find no proof... (Thomas Reid, referenced by Lehrer, 2008).
Introduction
There are many features of consciousness that philosophers of the mind discuss and debate. Two
are found within the philosophy of Russ McBride; they are: a) ...a conscious creature or subject ;
and b) a conscious mental state (Manson, 2011, 100). Another philosophy professor, Michael
Antony, sees two features that are commonly debated and dissected by scholars in and out of the
field of philosophy. Those features are the conscious state and the conscious creature both of
which will be further developed in this paper. Are mental states always clearly conscious states ?
Or are they clearly not conscious? Antony argues that it is impossible to accept that there could be
any borderline cases or fuzzy boundaries for concepts of consciousness (Antony, 2008). Antony s
and other approaches to consciousness are reviewed and critiqued in this paper.
The Literature on Consciousness
The concept of consciousness is ambiguous and polysemic (having more than one meaning),
according to professor Neil Manson (King s College in London). The fact that

Social Abstivation Aspects Of Social Observation
Robert is 5 years old and this observation took place at a family party, in a great social setting. I
received clearance to observe Robert by both his mother and father. Robert is an only child and
spends his time equally between his maternal and paternal families due to the fact that his parents
are separated. He is a third generation Mexican American. He seems to be growing fairly well in
reference to his height and weight compared to other children his age. Throughout much of the
afternoon, I observed calm behavior and much later, I observed a more boisterous behavior. At the
beginning of the observationhe walked into the social setting being almost oblivious to the people
around him, not wanting to formally greet members of the family until his father asked him to do
so. After this, Robert sat at a table alone until children approached him and then he became a little
less shy in demeanor.
The next transition in this observation began at the time children started to come, Robert
nervously asks a group of children if he can play with them and the group accepts. Much of the
observation between Robert, the group of children, and playtime consisted of playing with a
basketball in which there is no clear objectives or rules , playing shooting or bad guy, good guy
games, and just aimlessly, randomly running throughout the yard and home. Robert doesn t seem to
lead in any of these activities and seems to get his point across but does it in a timid manner. If any

equality predominate and where all individuals are treated like they are expendable and are
referred to solely as numbers. The protagonist of the novel, D 503, is a mathematician and a

D 503 is a mathematician and also the participating narrator of this novel. D 503 is dominated by
logic, he is an appropriate representation of what the inhabitants of OneState resemble;
hardworking, law abiding and controlled by logic. At the beginning of the novel, he is a law
abiding citizen, which does not question, nor does he rebel against the government, as the story
progresses it becomes clear that the society in which he resides in is not what it appears to be. D
503 is patriotic, he holds OneState in a high regard, in the sense that he believes that this is the
best way for humans to live, in a highly controlled and monitored environment. I, D 503, builder
of the INTEGRAL, I am only one of the mathematicians of OneState [4] However, even as a
brainwashed human being, it is quite obvious that he is pleased with the idea of being such a
relevant individual in the society, of being a key element to the overall construction of such an
important project that will make a significant impact in future generations to come. As human

in such a collectivist society is that we all belong to something much bigger than ourselves and
that gives us a sense of satisfaction. He has been writing a type of journal, which he refers to as

Weather And Weather In Mary Shelley s Frankenstein
Mary Shelley s Frankenstein was published in 1818, and is now famous as one of the pioneering
science fiction novels. Mary Shelley herself is sometimes even referred to as the mother of science
fiction. While her work has been scrutinized numerous times by feminists and moral critics, in
recent times ecologists have also been examining her novel. Ecocriticism, while still a relatively
new field of criticism, is highly interested in how weather and natural events effected both the
writing and plot of the novel. Ecocriticism of Mary Shelley s Frankensteinfocuses on the weather in
the novel itself, the eruption of the Tambora Volcano
in 1815, and the monster as symbolism for
weather in the early 1800s.
Weather plays an important role in the overall tone and mood of Mary Shelley s Frankenstein. It
helps to set the tone for the horror and tradgedy of the story. In Mary Shelley s Frankenstein, the
weather plays a significant part all through out the novel, but particularly during the scenes taking
place on Walton s ship and the scenes where Victor interacts with his creation.
The letters Walton writes to his sister give the reader lots of details that paint a picture of what
the weather was like during the time. Walton explains that he is looking for the north pole, a land
very different from where he comes. He describes it as a land of near eternal summer. In contrast to
this, both the area Walton hails from and the physical location of his ship are in much colder climate.

Baroque Music Characteristics
Baroque Period (1600 1750)
Baroque Music Characteristics 2
Rhythm
Most baroque music has an easily recognizable strong, steady pulse, and continuity of rhythm.
Patterns of rhythmic sequences permeate much of Baroque music.
Rapid changes in harmony often makes the pieces feel more rhythmic.
Dance rhythms were frequently used in multi movement form pieces.
Dotted rhythms were widely used.
Harmony
Figured Bass a system of numbers placed under the music was developed to indicate clearly the
harmonies that should be played with each note indicated in the bass line. The figured bass was
typically realized performed by the harpsichord.
The use of the basso continuo, also known as thoroughbass, is a bass line running ... Show more

This developed the concept of tonality.
Texture
Monophonic, texture evolved to homophonic texture in opera and solo arias, influencing both
sacred and secular music. Many instrumental compositions were also homophonic.
The soprano and bass lines are usually more important than the inner voices.
Imitation between the voices is common.
Counterpoint a very complex and rule bound type of polyphony in which the resulting harmony
provides the tonal organization for the music is used extensively.
In the late Baroque, polyphony, as a result of counterpoint, was used in all sorts of compositions,
especially the fugue.
There was an increased emphasis on contrasting textures; for example, large groups of instruments
play one section and a small group plays another, or groups of instruments take turns playing the
main theme(s).
Timbre
Most of the instruments commonly used today were in use during the Baroque era.
The violin family was refined and perfected.
The beginning of musical phrases are usually highlighted by a change of timbre.
There wasn t a fixed, standard orchestral group. Ensembles were usually composed of strings, a few
woodwinds, percussion, and the harpsichord providing the basso continuo.
The Baroque pipe organ, which has a very soft, mellow tone, was used extensively.
Use of brass instruments and percussion to denote pageantry, solemnity, ceremony, and splendor
was a common trend.

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Bio-Based Polymers
Introduction
Bio based polymers are materials which are produced from renewable resources. The terms bio
based and biodegradable will be used repeatedly in the literature, however there is a key
difference between the two types of materials. Biodegradable are defined as materials whose
physical and chemical attributes will undergo degradation and completely deteriorate when
exposed to microorganisms, aerobic processes, anaerobic processes, or both process simultaneously.
On the other hand, Bio based polymers can be biodegradable like polylactic acid or not degradable
like biopolyhethylene. Comparably many bio based polymers are biodegradable, yet not all
biodegradable polymers are bio based.

People Face Trade Courses Essay
People Face Trade Offs
In this assignment, it is evident that I have only one semester left to graduate and I have enough
finances to do a maximum of four courses. Three of the courses are required courses and the last
course slot is elective. I will have to narrow down my choices to three electives and based on two
economic decision making principles, I will provide and support my choice.
To begin with, in the scenario, I have three different courses and I have to select one. The three
courses include business management, mathematics, and economics. These courses provide and
include different benefits and disadvantages and my choice should predict high benefits and
incentives. There are various jobs related to mathematics such as high school math teacher, market
research analysis, and inventory control specialist. Pursuing mathematics will also improve my
arithmetic skills. However, mathematics is very complex and will require a lot of time.
On the other hand, economics degree course provides a range of advantages as well as
disadvantages. For example, after pursuing the economic course, I will work either as an accountant
or as financial analysts as well as investment analysts and statistician. Economics course will
provide me with the opportunity to learn new investment skills, capital management and ability to
analyze economic trends and patterns. Despite this, economics is a very complex and demanding

The women who stray away from the preset quotas on how they must act in society are ridiculed.
The author establishes this issue well in the cases of Sophie Wender, Rosalind Morton, and Aunt

assertive and genuine representations of present day women, shown throughout the novel. Rosalind
and Sophie are the closest there are to heroines in consideration of the fact they repeatedly confront

The earliest display of this social hierarchy is introduced through the story of Elias Strorm, the
most prominent figure in Waknuk s history. In a few seasons he straitened the coltishness with
admonitions, faded the pink and gold with preaching, and produced a sad, grey wraith of
wifehood who died, unprotesting, a year after her second son was born (1616). One could even
argue that Elias s wife died twice, once when Elias drilled and beat her into the mold of a
submissive housewife, and finally when her heart stopped beating. This imagined ideal of how
a proper wife must act did not die with Elias, as Joseph Strorm decided to not make the same
mistake with his wife. Emily Strorm, while being slightly less frail and decrepit than Elias s
wife, she is still at the same mercy to Joseph as Elias s wife was to him. When David was beaten

These expectations increased when she was in the presence of great power, [her] mother talking

narrator had a different idea; she would grow up a woman warrior (20). As a young girl, she said

Although this is a key factor in her early childhood, she learns to block out these criticisms as she

There is significant evidence of this growing maturity in Shaman. In the beginning of the chapter,

  • 2. Critical Thinking Paper On The United States StГ©phane Mizero Criminal Justice 101 Dr. Miyuki 16th.November.2015 Critical Thinking Paper: I assumed that I was looking for a house and I found three equally wonderful houses in three cities that are located in different states of America. The first one was the city of Cambridge located in the state of Massachusetts because you can easily live without a car. I believe that cars cause pollution and I am against it. I believe, I can easily contribute by choosing a house that is near my work place so that I can walk or bike easily. The second one was the city of Miami located in the state of Florida because it is the warmest city in the U.S. It has been really hard for me to keep up with the weather in winter because I am from one of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... UCR helped me to find out more about the crimes reported in this area by the UCR so that I can determine the different levels of security before choosing the best city to live in. For the city of Cambridge that is located in the state of Massachusetts, I found out that it had the least rate of part 1 crimes overall with 2692.2 part 1 crimes per 100000 people compared to both the city of Miami that is located in the state of Florida and the city of New Haven which is located in the state of Connecticut while the city of Miami that is located in the state of Florida had the most crime rate of 5908.4 part 1 crimes per 100000 people. It is more than a half (UCR, 2015:1). Considering the violent crimes rate Miami that is located in the state of Florida still has the most rates of 1059.9 per 100000 people compared to 278.1 rates per 100000 people in the city of Cambridge that is located in the state of Massachusetts, which has the least rate of violent crimes(UCR, 2015:1). I believe that the best place for me to live in is in the city of Cambridge in the state of Massachusetts. I made this decision basing myself more on the overall rate of violent crime because I am more scared of the violent crimes since this is the type of crime that can harm me. I looked at property crimes too but I was not so concerned because I can survive and not get harmed at all, that s what I think is more ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

A method is required to decrease the amount of pain during a dressing change to help promote wound healing and increase hand function (Guo, Deng, Yang, 2014). Some of the treatments we use presently in the hospital to decrease pain, such as analgesics, can cause respiratory depression, decrease bloodpressure and other side effects (Guo et al., 2014, p.116). Another treatment used is a narcotic dressing which can significantly increase the cost of treatment. This study looks at the use of a nonpharmacological way of decreasing pain during a dressing change by the use of virtual reality distraction. The purpose of this research study... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Guo et al. s (2014) states that when analgesics are unavailable, this tool is convenient for nurses to use. There are many resources necessary to implement virtual reality distraction. The study used many devices including: a pair of ultra high resolution 3D glasses, headphones, mouse, computer and the 3D film (Guo et al., 2014). These resources may not be readily available in undeveloped Countries. They also may have a large cost that some hospitals may not be able to afford. This can be another limitation in regards to who is able to access the resource. In the future, knowing that a patient s pain can be relieved by nonpharmacological means will help provide better care. Many patients do not like taking analgesics in fear that they will become addicted. This method may help alleviate the patients anxiety since the fear of addiction is not present if they are not taking analgesics. The institution that the patient is receiving care at may not have the resources needed for virtual reality. However, knowing that the pain is decreased with virtual reality distraction will allow nurses to adapt this method to what they have available. For example, allowing the patient to watch television, listen to music, or play a game on their mobile devise will help distract them during the dressing change. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. Vasopressin Case Study The oxidation of blood components by the oxygen released from erythrocytes may cause hypothalamic pituitary adrenal insufficiency [67]. Primary and secondary adrenal insufficiency occurs in patients with sepsis and is associated with a poor outcome [68 71]. Blood oxidation affects the hypothalamo pituitary thyroidal axis, inactivating thyrotropine , thyroidgland hormones (triiodothyronine(TT3), thyroxine (TT4) and their binding proteins. Thyroid hormoneregulates metabolism and has impact on sepsis prognosis. The level of TT4 is lower in patients with septic shock than in patients without septic shock [72 74]. De iodinations of iodothyronines play key roles in metabolic regulation [75, 76]. Vasopressin (Antidiuretic hormone) also is oxidized by the oxygen released from erythrocytes. Vasopressin plays a role in circulatory homeostasis and serum osmolality. Oxytocin and vasopressin are oxidized with formation of dityrosine [77]. Ritalin is a prescription drug used primarily in the treatment of behavioural problems in children such as Attention deficit disorder (ADD) and Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) (National Drug Intelligence Centre 2006). It is estimated that 11 percent of Australians between the ages of 6 to 17 are affected by ADD or ADHD and the amount of Ritalin being prescribed has doubled in the last 10 years ( Schriever 2012). The brand name for Ritalin is methylphenidate, a drug that stimulates the central nervous system. Its primary use is to stimulate the brain and improve concentration, therefore helping the child control impulsive behaviour and overactivity (Royal Children s Hospital Melbourne 2010). When a child is taken to see a doctor for behavioural problems the General Practitioner will refer these children to a child phycologist or paediatrician. However, this perspective fails to recognize the tremendous impacts that minority groups had, have, and will have in shaping and influencing America s past, present, and future. The Revolutionary War is an example of how women and African Americans played an important role in critical events in American history. In the Revolutionary War, Americans fought for freedom and independence from Britain, leading to the birth of our nation. Without the contributions of women and African Americans, the Revolutionary War may not have been successful, and American history may have followed a very different course. During the Revolutionary War, the Patriot soldiers fighting for freedom needed help in many ways to support their mission on and beyond the battleground. Consciousness and Philosophers of the Mind Consciousness and Philosophers of Mind Consciousness is a word used by philosophers, to signify that immediate knowledge which we have of our present thoughts and purposes, and, in general of all the operations of our mind... [and] if I am asked to prove that I cannot be deceived by consciousness to prove that it is not a fallacious sense I can find no proof... (Thomas Reid, referenced by Lehrer, 2008). Introduction There are many features of consciousness that philosophers of the mind discuss and debate. Two are found within the philosophy of Russ McBride; they are: a) ...a conscious creature or subject ; and b) a conscious mental state (Manson, 2011, 100). Another philosophy professor, Michael Antony, sees two features that are commonly debated and dissected by scholars in and out of the field of philosophy. Those features are the conscious state and the conscious creature both of which will be further developed in this paper. Are mental states always clearly conscious states ? Or are they clearly not conscious? Antony argues that it is impossible to accept that there could be any borderline cases or fuzzy boundaries for concepts of consciousness (Antony, 2008). Antony s and other approaches to consciousness are reviewed and critiqued in this paper. The Literature on Consciousness The concept of consciousness is ambiguous and polysemic (having more than one meaning), according to professor Neil Manson (King s College in London). I received clearance to observe Robert by both his mother and father. Robert is an only child and spends his time equally between his maternal and paternal families due to the fact that his parents are separated. He is a third generation Mexican American. He seems to be growing fairly well in reference to his height and weight compared to other children his age. Throughout much of the afternoon, I observed calm behavior and much later, I observed a more boisterous behavior. At the beginning of the observationhe walked into the social setting being almost oblivious to the people around him, not wanting to formally greet members of the family until his father asked him to do so. D 503 is patriotic, he holds OneState in a high regard, in the sense that he believes that this is the best way for humans to live, in a highly controlled and monitored environment. I, D 503, builder of the INTEGRAL, I am only one of the mathematicians of OneState [4] However, even as a brainwashed human being, it is quite obvious that he is pleased with the idea of being such a relevant individual in the society, of being a key element to the overall construction of such an important project that will make a significant impact in future generations to come. As human beings, we have the innate desire to belong to a group/organization. One of the benefits of living in such a collectivist society is that we all belong to something much bigger than ourselves and that gives us a sense of satisfaction. He has been writing a type of journal, which he refers to as Records in order to prove to the other inhabitants on other planets that the totalitarian state is the most efficient way of living. • 28. Weather And Weather In Mary Shelley s Frankenstein Mary Shelley s Frankenstein was published in 1818, and is now famous as one of the pioneering science fiction novels. Mary Shelley herself is sometimes even referred to as the mother of science fiction. While her work has been scrutinized numerous times by feminists and moral critics, in recent times ecologists have also been examining her novel. Ecocriticism, while still a relatively new field of criticism, is highly interested in how weather and natural events effected both the writing and plot of the novel. Ecocriticism of Mary Shelley s Frankensteinfocuses on the weather in the novel itself, the eruption of the Tambora Volcano in 1815, and the monster as symbolism for weather in the early 1800s. Weather plays an important role in the overall tone and mood of Mary Shelley s Frankenstein. It helps to set the tone for the horror and tradgedy of the story. In Mary Shelley s Frankenstein, the weather plays a significant part all through out the novel, but particularly during the scenes taking place on Walton s ship and the scenes where Victor interacts with his creation. The letters Walton writes to his sister give the reader lots of details that paint a picture of what the weather was like during the time. Walton explains that he is looking for the north pole, a land very different from where he comes. He describes it as a land of near eternal summer. In contrast to this, both the area Walton hails from and the physical location of his ship are in much colder climate. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Counterpoint a very complex and rule bound type of polyphony in which the resulting harmony provides the tonal organization for the music is used extensively. In the late Baroque, polyphony, as a result of counterpoint, was used in all sorts of compositions, especially the fugue. There was an increased emphasis on contrasting textures; for example, large groups of instruments play one section and a small group plays another, or groups of instruments take turns playing the main theme(s). One could even argue that Elias s wife died twice, once when Elias drilled and beat her into the mold of a submissive housewife, and finally when her heart stopped beating.
