All City Choir Essay
There s a bigger song emerging from the music wing this year, but even though the women s choir has
more than doubled from the 36 girls in the fall of 2012 to the 82 girls enrolled this fall, choir director
Elliot Kranz said that teaching that many girls at one time isn t any different than teaching any other
ensemble. There are just more girls. He said he believes there are a number of reasons for such an
increase in numbers in the group. One is because of the success of the women s choir in the past. The
All City Choir event including secondary students is also a reason students are motivated to to do
choir after seeing the CFHS choir perform. The two junior highs have very strong choir programs as
well, making it more likely for them to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Any time you add numbers, it makes it more difficult to sing in tune and sound like one voice. But we
work on this from day one in rehearsal, and hopefully our hard work pays off throughout the year. He
said he does not think that having so many girls will be any type of problem and hopes that the choir
will keep increasing every year. Junior Anna Stillman said she thinks it s awesome to have so many
girls in the choir and they are starting to sing very well as a group, although at times it is hard to have
a good balance of sound with so many voices at one time. It can be distracting at times. I love choir,
and when other people continue to talk while we are trying to sing and learn new pieces, it can be
distracting. But in the long run, Stillman also said she thinks that having more girls in choir will make
them better as a whole because they have a lot of strong upperclassmen singers and some very talented
sophomores with good voices coming to help them out. Stillman chose to take choir again this year
because, I ve always really enjoyed singing and did it in junior high for two years and decided to try it
again in the high school, and I m so happy I did. It s been so much fun, and Mr. Kranz is a great

Speech On Multilingualism
MULTILINGUALISM AND MY CONTEXT
India is a country where over 1650 mother tongues belonging to five different language families viz.
Indo Aryan, Dravidian, Austro Asiatic, Tibeto Burman and, Andamanese are spoken. India is such a
landscape where we can find multilingual environment everywhere.
Chhattisgarh and languages
I am a Bengali native speaker, presently residing in Chhattisgarh, where Chhattisgarhi, Hindi, English
Oriya and also many sub languages (so called Boli ) are used by the people. In the context of
Chhattisgarh we can also find multilingual environment in school education system. In this state
native speakers are also using Hindi language,

native people and teachers I come to know that they denied ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Multilingualism is easily defined as an occurrence regarding an individual or group of speaker(s) who
use(s) two or more languages, a community of speakers where two or more language are used as oral
or written form. Multilingualism basically arises to communicate with speech communities. There are
two type of multilingualism is seen in our scenario: These two type of multilingualism are: A)
Additive multilingualism and B) Subtractive multilingualism.
Additive bi/multilingualism: Additive multilingualism enriches both the languages by their usage; e.g.
if a child cherishes/nourishes other languages side by side his mother tongue too, then it is called
additive bi/multilingualism.
Subtractive multilingualism: It refers to the gradual loss of the first language as the second language
dominates learner s functional space, in which case the speaker s loyalty shifted towards acquired
language; e.g. if a child acquired second language and this language dominates upon his/her mother
tongue and he/she priorities and shifts loyalty to acquired language, then it is called subtractive
multilingualism. (Bedadur Vijay Nivedita, 2015 pp

Movie Smoke Signals Essay
Movie Smoke Signals
For most of my life, the word Native American had immediately made me think of feathers,
powwows, and a society uncorrupted by civilization. However, in watching the movie Smoke Signals,
a movie that depicts the modern Native American culture, I learned many other things. For one, I
learned that many of the customs that modern Native Americans have are very similar to my own. I
also saw that the family life of the Native Americans in the film had many of the same problems that
my family had undergone in the past years. This film was unlike any that I have ever seen; therefore, it
reached me on a very personal level.
The movie Smoke Signals was set in 1998, with reoccurring flashbacks to the 1980 s on the ... Show

Luckily, Thomas and Victor were okay; however, Arnold s problem with alcohol does not stop with
this horrible mistake. For years he continued to drink and abuse his wife and son, Victor. When Arnold
s wife could not take it anymore, Arnold left the family and moved far away, missing most of his son s
life. My family has also had this problem. I have never been a victim of child abuse, but my father s
abuse of alcohol has impacted me in many ways. When I was about seven, I was told that my dad was
leaving because of his alcoholism. I did not understand at the time the significance of my parents
getting a divorce, but having lived ten years without my father, I feel I can relate to Victor in many
ways. My dad has missed so many important events in my life, such as making the cheerleading
squad, my first prom, and even the day I got my license. After seeing this movie I realized that even if
my dad could recover from alcoholism, it could never make up for all the years we lost together. Lives
are ruined by this terrible addiction everyday; not only the alcoholic s life, but also the lives of those
who love them.
I thought this film was very unique because it shows the true Native American perspective of
everyday life, not the usual phony stereotype of Indians such as teepees and bow and arrows. It also
showed how much Native Americans are not much different than other cultures. Instead of singling
other cultures out or judging people that are different from

Muskigum College Essay
Trying to choose between Muskigum and The University of Kentucky is like picking between a luxury
car and a basic model. Both will get you moving in the right direction, but one will cost you a lot more
money for the bells and whistles. Muskigum has the standard education, according to the University of

college choice is a difficult decision for a student and his or her family. The final decision needs to be

Recognition And Tragedy In Oedipus Rex, By Sophocles
An ancient Greek Philosopher as well as a Scientist named Aristotle was the teacher of Alexander the
Great and a student of Plato. Aristotle defines tragedy as imitations of life consist of action with a
serious lesson to convey and purges emotions into the audience which leads to catharsis of these
emotions. Oedipus Rex written by Sophocles is an Athenian tragedy which practically fulfills the
Aristotelian theory of a tragedy. Oedipus, the King of Thebes is a noble man with great personality
whose life is controlled by the ill fate he is born along with the tragic flaw that is excessive pride and
confidence that he can make his life best, but cannot overcome the ill fate and boundlessly struggles.

Firstly reversal is the situation in which the unexpected action occurs which is not following the law
of probability and possibility. Recognition and reversal occurs parallel to each other every time that is
when there is reversal in the ongoing plot, recognition is the realization of the Hero which expound
the previous events and is a resolution to the play. Reversal and recognition evokes the emotion of fear
and pity in the mind of the audience thus, leading to catharsis which is releases the emotional tension
cleansing one s mind. Thus in the Oedipus, the messenger comes to cheer Oedipus and free him from
his alarms about mother, but by revealing who he is, he produces the opposite effect. The audiences
develop the emotions of pity and fear towards the tragic hero Oedipus as the suspicion of King Laius s
murder fall on Oedipus which creates terror to the time when it is confirmed that Oedipus had done
the sin of ignorance/immorality by murdering ones father and marrying ones mother. Therefore, this
reversal of fate in the hero s life fills the mind of the audience with sympathy and fears that at last
during the catastrophe Oedipus pokes out his eyes which leads to the liberation of emotional tension
giving pleasure to the audience. Deus ex Machina is a literary technique which means god out of a
machine. This technique is not used in between the play, but can be used at the beginning as a report
or at the end. Deus ex machina can be found in the character of Tiresias, the blind old man who

Social Contract Theory of John Locke Essay
Social Contract Theory of John Locke Given the honored and extensive authority that the social
contract theory upholds, the supposition still endures various assessments. The view that people s
ethical and political responsibilities are reliant upon a contract between them to structure a society is
also precisely linked with current ethical and political theory. John Locke (b. 1632, d. 1704), a
prominent truth seeker among other professions of the 17th and early 18th centuries, is primarily
recognized for the creation of his influential social contract theory. Censors dispute that most people
are raised within an existing society and not presented with opportunity to opt a social contract;
therefore, Locke s social contract theory is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This style of adjudication would create recurrent heated discussions being settled by personal
brutality. Despite the different thinking techniques of Locke and Hobbes, the agreement exists that the
state of nature would generate a sadistic and apprehensive atmosphere (Reese, 2001, ¶11 12). The
State of Nature is a condition of ideal and inclusive autonomy to manage life in the best method one
deems necessary, according to Locke. To add clarity, Locke s proposal was not to include the freedom
to do whatever one desires despite the consequences. Although the State of Nature presents a status
that municipal influence and government does not discipline individuals for illegal indiscretions,
doctrines remain in subsistence. Furthermore, the State of Nature assumes equivalency to others and is
equally skilled to make determinations ensured by, what Locke claims, the foundation of decency; the
Law of Nature. Locke s viewpoint is that the Law of Nature was provided to mankind by God with the
instructions not to cause injury to one another in regard to physical condition, independence,
existence, and property. In Locke s words, Moral good and evil is only the conformity or disagreement
of our voluntary actions to some law, whereby good or evil is drawn on us, from the will and power of
the law maker (Laslett, 1967, p. 18). Locke refutes Hobbes theory by making claim that because God
owns every living creature, and every human being is considered equivalent,

Mrs. Dalloway Mental Illness
Both settings in the The Good Soldier and Mrs. Dalloway take place in the early 1900 s. This a time in
which patriarchy and conservative ideals rule. The authors of the novels, Ford Madox Ford and
Virginia Woolf, create characters that oppose such standards. They battle mental illness, extramarital
temptation and economic disabilities, thus leading to an interesting development in the personalities,
thoughts, and actions of such characters like, Edward Ashburnham, Florence Dowell, Clarissa
Dalloway and Septimus. .
Characters in both The Good Soldier and Mrs. Dalloway are deeply affected by mental illness at a
time in which such ailments weren t recognized as a real health issue. Due to this mark of shame that

The issue of unequal health care is specifically highlighted between the two novels, The Good Soldier
and Mrs. Dalloway. In The Good Soldier, doctors recommend that the the very wealthy Edward
Ashburnham and Florence Dowell visit luxurious spas to treat their fictitious heart problems. Edward
uses such heart problems to escape from the military while Florence s uses hers to distance herself
John. These two characters selfishly abuse the opportunities provided to them whereas Septimus and
LuCrezia desperately search for any sort of mental illness treatment in Mrs. Dalloway. Unlike Edward
and Florence, the couple is left very few options to treat Septimus s shell shock. They ultimately find
help in Dr. Holmes and Sir William Bradshaw. While it unclear whether or not Sir William Bradshaw
could have effectively treated Septimus or not, the reader has evidence to how harmful Dr. Holmes is,
as seen when he practically scared Septimus into killing himself. This all may have been avoided if
Septimus and LuCrezia had the same access to outstanding medical treatment as Edward and Florence
did. All in all, Characters in The Good Soldier take advantage of exceptional medical services for
imaginary ailments while sickly and underprivileged people like Septimus are left to their own devices

Change In Pride And Prejudice
The pride of individuals may seem hard of their character. Since many people struggle with pride, the
downfall is prejudice from other people. The prospective of individuals will change through the
passage of time. Jane Austen wrote many novels that describers a person visage. In the novel Pride
and Prejudice, one can see the moral lesson Jane Austen teachers in not judging a book by its cover. In
the beginning of the novel Elizabeth is first introduced to Mr. Darcy with an abrupt statement of pride.
At the first ball Mr. Darcy is speaking to Mr. Bingley about the beauty of Elizabeth Bennet. Darcy
says, she is tolerable; but not handsome enough to tempt me, and I am in no humor at present to give

Mr. Darcy is seen risking his honor to help Elizabeth s family with the eloping of Mr. Wickham and
Lydia. Mr. Darcy remarks, I am grieved, indeed, cried Darcy: grieved and shocked. But it is all, all too
late now (Austen 269). In this part of the story Elizabeth sees Mr. Darcy with more of a sense of
empathy to where she can understand his disgust with the previous good Mr. Wickham, turned
scandal. Now Elizabeth sees Mr. Darcy as a man of Integrity that can display his emotion to those he
wishes to pursue. This process of prospective has changed the prejudice of Elizabeth towards Mr.
Darcy. A person s demeanor is all a matter of understanding as well as prospective through other
peoples lives. In examination of the novel, Pride and Prejudice, one can see the moral lesson Jane
Austen teaches. Judging people on first encounters is not a good way to view life, knowing a person s
heart takes time and suffering. People always need to hear the information straight from the horses
mouth. Individuals can learn to look into a person s heart not by what the world views oneself, but by
the action of one s individual

The Spill Of The Deepwater Horizon
On April 20, 2010, at 9:45 pm, the Deepwater Horizon experienced an explosive blowout on a rig
located in the Gulf of Mexico. The explosion was about 40 miles of the Louisiana coast. With the flow
of gas leaking out, it caused the death of eleven workers on the rig. About two days later the rig sank,
which caused quite a lot of damage to a pipeline that laid drawn out through 5,000 feet of water. As a
result, the oil begin pouring from the damaged pipes into the ocean nearby, at the incredible rate. The
Deepwater Horizon was built in 2001, and was owned by the Transocean Ltd. There are many people
who blame the owners of the oil drilling company and its associates for allowing the disaster to occur
on its watch. The resulting explosions at Deepwater Horizon and the oil spill that occurred after,
enraged millions of people around the world. Consequently, the BP Company has faced multiple
inspections from the U.S government, which is trying to hold BP responsible for its role in the oil
spill.
The administration of President Obama issued a six month suspension on new Deepwater training

Symptoms And Consequences Of Chickenpox
Some diseases seem simple and commonplace, but people don t always fully understand how they are
contracted or for how long they can spread them. Even those most seemingly harmless diseases can
have consequences that lead to hospitalizations, later complications, and death. Education to the
public on these diseases is important for preventing their continued spread. Some diseases could be
nearly eradicated if people understood the usefulness of prevention techniques and how not to spread
the disease if it is contracted. Chickenpox, also known as Varicella, is one of those diseases that seems
like it is not a big deal, but could be for some people that are more vulnerable to its effects. The first
thing that a person must understand with chickenpox is how it is transmitted and how contagious it is.
Chickenpox is caused by a simple virus called the varicella zoster virus (VZV). It is spread from
person to person fairly easily once it is contracted. Chickenpox is an extremely contagious disease
among those who have never been vaccinated for chickenpox or have never had chickenpox before. It
can spread simply by coughing, sneezing, breathing in virus particles, or touching the blisters of an
infected person. Occasionally chickenpox can be caught from someone who has shingles as well,
because shingles and chickenpox are both caused by VZV. One difficult feature of chickenpox is a
person is contagious one to two days before blisters even appear, therefore at that point they are

The Death Of A Great Day By Jimmy Smalls

Sadly, this promotion lasted for a grand total of a week. But his all new job wasn t the only thing

his small but cozy home a mess. Furniture was strewn across the ground, lamps were dismantled, and

What if there was a way to end variation and make everything the same? he asked Kevin. Would you

Kevin didn t really see the point of saying no, but he wouldn t have said it if there was an option. Why
not make the world a better place.
They waited for a day and stocked up on supplies.
Kevin, I need you to steal that 3D Printer from your company, Jimmy told him.
What? Why? Kevin agreed with Jimmy s plan, but he didn t see why stealing was necessary.
Jimmy tried to phrase his next answer in a way that Kevin could understand. We need that printer to
create the community. It s the only way we can make it .
Finally, Jimmy and Kevin packed their bags and headed to California. They got to work and ended up
building the infrastructure of the community. Next were the citizens. Each citizen would be made from
slightly varying presets enough to distinguish, but not to discriminate. Their haircut would convey the

Joseph Carens Theory Of Immigration Analysis
The analysis of the theory of immigration by Joseph Carens opens up a discussion on different

considered a leading ethical theorist in his field. This analysis of Carens theory of constitutes on
reflections that will require a fair amount of reading on ethics and interstate migration. One must

It does not matter if they are documented or not, children or adults, in each case we see the unethical
state power in its treatment of non citizens. To explain this further, we will mention a few examples of
what Carens means by this as well as the merits of the argument. For example, if a person is residing
within an specific polity as undocumented, throughout the years (this is something that should be
contemporary relevant for all of us) the person will have created a huge network of social ties and
multiple distinct types of relationships. After several years of a person doing this, one must see the
moral claim that a person should have the right to citizenship. The contemporary rules to acquire
citizenship are made from beliefs and they violate the human right to freedom of conscience.
Renouncing other citizenships serves no purpose for the state. In fact, these are abuses that will
discriminate against the poor (the process is expensive), and the civic citizenship test is an
undemocratic standardize test that reveals nothing else the unfairness and nation centric view of the
state. As a side note, the only edge that Carens is willing to accept, on the conventional assumption
that states have sizeable moral discretion over border policies, is the absence of a criminal record, but
only the absence of a criminal record that would morally warrant and actually result

Cultural Conflicts That Influenced His Moral Compass And...
In the story Bless Me, Ultima, Antonio faced several cultural conflicts that influenced his moral
compass and cultural identity. First, he faced a cultural conflict between his mother and father s
aspirations regarding his destiny. His mother wanted Antonio to pursue a future life as a priest, while
his father wanted Antonio to be a cowboy. Similarly, I grappled with the same battle as a child. My
mother wanted me to pursue medicine, while my father wanted me to become an engineer and follow
their footsteps. Just like Antonio had learned from Ultima, this was an element I had to decide for
myself. I found out from life experiences that my passion for science, the human body, and the desire
to prolong and save people s lives, ultimately made my decision to pursue medicine.
Another cultural conflict he faced was between his Spanish speaking self and his English speaking
schoolmates. Throughout his life, he had followed the Spanish culture of his family, who mainly spoke
Spanish in their home. His first day of school, he noticed that his English speaking schoolmates were
less accepting of his culture when he spoke Spanish in front of the class and unpacked his lunch filled
with Hispanic food, which differed from the sandwiches his schoolmates brought for lunch. I shared
the same prejudice as Antonio when I initially came to Los Angeles from the Philippines. My first day
as a third grader, I was humiliated by my schoolmates because I spoke little English with a

The Analysis Of The Deepwater Horizon Study Group
BP leadership along with partners did not have proper governance and process to evaluate the risk that
they are willing to take. The employee at every level does not know how much risk to take nor did any
corporate policy exist to guide them. Having zero risk tolerance and zero safety defects in these
complex operations ensure there are no human losses. The analysis of the Deepwater Horizon Study
Group (2011) (p.11) shows that the leadership was concerned about how much money was spent in
excess and did not address previous violations or preventive steps. Instead of downplaying, BP could
have accessed the situation, analyzed, and communicated just before and after the explosions from an
organizational behavior perspective. Communication is an important tool and basic needs of any

Western Ideology of Orientalism in John Luther Long’s play...
Outline
I. Introduction Topic sentence:
II. Madame Butterfly The Western ideology of the Eastern exoticism and docility originates from the
long historical context of imperialism and political tensions between the West and the East. Domestic
struggles caused by political strife and war in the East, such as the Philippines during the American
Spanish War and China during the Opium Wars, created an opportunity for the West to infiltrate the
destabilized Eastern countries. This access allowed the West to exercise a form of supremacy over
Asia, as the East was seen as powerless and incapable of self governance. Thus, considering
themselves as racially and politically superior, the West adopted a White Man s Burden mentality; it is
the duty of the Western men to dominate the East and civilize the uneducated and old fashioned
Orientals. This historical framework would eventually construct the Oriental stereotype of the Lotus
Blossom and the Oriental Butterfly . As portrayed by the delicate and docile character, Hana Ogi, in
the film Sayonara (1957), the Lotus Blossom depicts an Oriental woman who is quiet, modest, and
always submissive to her man. Writer Sui Seen further emphasizes this stereotypical figure in her
description of Chinese merchant wives: She has a true affection for her husband [...] She loves him
because she has been given to him to be his wife. No question of woman s rights perplexes her. She
takes no responsibility upon herself and wishes

Analysis Of The Beet Queen By Louise Erdrich
In the excerpt from Louise Erdrichś, The Beet Queen, Erdrich uses shifts in tone, the imagery of the
tree, and the juxtaposition of two children whom are impacted very differently by the nature of the
world. The characters of Karl and Mary are introduced as two completely opposing people.
Throughout the passage, Erdrich explores how the childrens reactions to the environment reveal their
differing perspectives and understandings. Erdrich chooses to convey this scene via third person
narration and an ambivalent tone in order to convey the bleak setting of this story. The author utilizes
imagery ...cold spring morning...lips were violet...feet were numb... to show the extent of the
uninviting environment. Even referring to the train that the children were transported on, there is a
comparison to the tone. The train is seen as a cold metal machine, similar to the emotionless nature of
the speaker. After the long trip on the train, Karl and Mary are introduced. The boy is described in

The nature draws him closer, and nothing can pull him out of the trance. The environmental impact on
Karl is that he loves the nature of things. The beauty and the empowerment of all that surrounds him

tree, Mary trudged boldly forward, hardly glancing at it. The beauty of the blossoming tree does
nothing for Mary, as she just continues to go on. Here, Mary pays no attention to the sudden hint of
potential and hope while Karl is dearly holding on to it. Karl is conversely, transfixed, paying no
attention to Mary, the dog or its owner. Mary and Karl s contrasting interactions with the tree

Write An Essay On Bees Pollinators
90% of the world s nutrition is pollinated by bees. This is 70 out of 100 food crops. Every one bite of
food you eat (out of three) everyday, has been pollinated by bees. So everytime you eat you have a bee
to thank. About 80% of pollination all over the world is performed by bees. Fruits, nuts, and
vegetables are pollinated by bees. If we lost bees, more than 80% of the varieties of food we eat every

Witches Power In Macbeth
In William Shakespeare s Macbeth, the theme of acting on beliefs illustrates men as the weak and
women as the strong in the story. This flaw in the men restrains them from fully acting upon what they
believe, and instead, do as the women persuade and manipulate them to do. With the flaw in the men,
it allows the women to use them to further contrast their power. Even when the men make attempts to
make right, the women exploit the men s flaw of belief and will to fulfill their own goals.
Shakespeare uses the witches to illustrate the men s inability to act on their belief, to create a
substantial difference in strength and power the women have over the men. The witches guide
Macbeth towards the path of becoming king, which illustrates Macbeth s fatal flaw for the first time in
the story as he then proves the witches prophecy. This displays the witches power over Macbeth as he
completes their prophecy. The witches utilize Macbeth to view their own superiority over men by the
witches manipulating and persuading them. Shakespeare uses the rant made by Hecate, to embellish
the witches actions against Macbeth as manipulative to prove their dominance and superiority over
him. Saucy and overbold, how did you dare To trade and traffic with Macbeth In riddles and affairs of

The factors are either endogenous related to the individual or exogenous related to the work
environment. Certain personalities are associated with disrespectful behavior. Self esteem is extremely
important to doctors as it is very related to doctors` perception of their own reputation and
competence. The reason for this is doctors usually spend a huge amount of time and energy to achieve
a great success and reputation so they become more sensitive to anything that may endanger their self
esteem or success. Doctors might react with aggressive personal behavior, if anyone directly or
indirectly tries to touch their self esteem, as a way to confirm their professional dominance. They
could feel insecurity and anxiety especially if they felt that they are prone to challenges of practicing
medicine. Doctors or any healthcare professionals who do not feel confident about their skills may
reflect this anxiety to the coworkers around him in terms of blaming others or making hypercritical
comments. In fact they might overreact blaming themselves for real or unreal inadequacy,
hypercriticize themselves or others. The huge amount of energy and time doctors spend to succeed
professionally make physicians self involved and become vulnerable to narcissistic character traits. In

CASE REPORT: Global Wine Wars: New World Challenges Old
(Harvard Business School Case # 9 303 056) NMI
1. How did the French become the dominant competitors in the increasingly global wine industry for
centuries? What sources of competitive advantage were they able to develop to support their exports?
Where were they vulnerable?
French wine makers also face challenges that are not internal to the industry. For instance, France lost
market share in the United States due to informal boycotts in the wake of the Iraq war. The rise of the
euro against other currencies, such as the 30% increase relative to the dollar in the last few years, has
put French wines at a comparative cost disadvantage. But consensus among experts is that the ... Show

However, it quickly became apparent that the newcomers pose a serious threat to the traditional
winemakers. The French were especially hurt when they began to lose their global market share as
well as the coveted U.K. market to the Australians.

global industry. How incumbents can respond, especially when constrained by regulation, tradition,
embedded values, and a different set of capabilities than those demanded by the emerging market by
changing consumer tastes and market structures.
The case contrasts the tradition bound Old World wine industry with the market oriented New World
producers, the battle for the US market, the most desirable export target in 2009 due to its large, fast
growing, high priced market segments.
REINVENTING THE MARKETING MODEL: New World producers revolutionized the packaging
and marketing aspects of wine making. Americans and Australians greatly impacted wine packaging
by replacing the Old World standard liter bottle with a half gallon flagon in the U.S. and the
innovative wine in a box package in Australia. Australians have been praised for this idea because
boxed wine not only saves on shipping costs but it
has made storage easier for consumers. Australians have also begun to use screw on caps rather than
the traditional corks on premium wines; this is to prevent spoiling due to deficient corks. On the

Hadoop Distributed File System Analysis
HADOOP DISTRIBUTED FILE SYSTEM
Abstract Hadoop Distributed File System, a Java based file system provides reliable and scalable
storage for data. It is the key component to understand how a Hadoop cluster can be scaled over
hundreds or thousands of nodes. The large amounts of data in Hadoop cluster is broken down to
smaller blocks and distributed across small inexpensive servers using HDFS. Now, MapReduce
functions are executed on these smaller blocks of data thus providing the scalability needed for big
data processing. In this paper I will discuss in detail on Hadoop, the architecture of HDFS, how it
functions and the advantages.
I. INTRODUCTION
Over the years it has become very essential to process large amounts of data with high precision and
speed. This large amounts of data that can no more be processed using the Traditional Systems is
called Big Data. Hadoop, a Linux based tools framework addresses three main problems faced when
processing Big Data which the Traditional Systems cannot. The first problem is the speed of the data
flow, the second is the size of the data and the last one is the format of data. Hadoop divides the data
and computation into smaller pieces, sends it to different computers, then gathers the results to
combine them and sends it to the application. This is done using Map Reduce and HDFS i.e., Hadoop
Distributed File System. The data node and the name node part of the architecture fall under HDFS.

Battle Royale Analysis
When Battle Royale first made its debut to the world, there were already concerns from the
government and parents about its effects on teenagers. Despite the Motion Picture Code Committee
restricting admission to anyone under sixteen, teenagers still camped out for two days to see the
opening screening (G. Sparks and C. Sparks 269). The film was controversial for its extreme violence,
but the reactions of the adults to try and control their children tellingly echoed the conflict within the
film itself, something its director had purposefully highlighted. Kinji Fukasaku used props throughout
his film to represent the challenging relationships between the older and younger generations of Japan.
Based in real life encounters and the failings of the Japanese school system, Fukasaku brought the
conflicts between the government, parents, teachers, and students to the screen in a darkly humorous
bloodbath.
Authority Figures versus Children
To better understand Fukasaku s approach to his film, it will help to examine his own childhood. As a
young teenager, Fukasaku grew up in a country plagued by the horrors of World War II:
His class was drafted into the war effort, and they found themselves working in a munitions factory.
[...] The classmates were caught in a barrage of artillery fire. [...] The survivors of the attack used the
corpses of their friends as cover and, after the violence has passed, Fukasaku and his surviving friends
were given the task of disposing of the body parts

The Gambino Crime Family
Paul Castellano, or Big Paul was an eight grade dropout and boss of the richest, most dangerous, and
most powerful crime syndicate in the United States. Born June 26, 1915 in Brooklyn, Big Paul began
his life in the mob by running numbers. When he was named successor to the great Carlo Gambino,
trouble arose. Many members felt that Aniello Dellacroce, although in prison, deserved the role but
instead Gambino had promoted Paul. Some saw this as nepotism which was generally frowned upon
on by La Cosa Nostra. To settle tensions Castellano gifted Neil Dellacroce some of the family s most
lucrative operations throughout Manhattan and Queens, but this did not completely satisfy the slighted
underboss. Paul, like Gambino, was an unusual type of Mafia boss. Unfortunately, while Don Carlo
was revolutionary, Big Paul was unsatisfactory. He was embarrassed that he was categorized as a
gangster and preferred to be regarded as a diplomat or businessman. Big Paul was said to look more
like a businessman or CEO than a mobster. Paul Castellano was flashy too; he liked elegant clothing,
fine dining, and being driven around by chauffeur. He even detested violence which is not a good
quality for a mob boss to obtain. The Pope as he was referred to, was standoffish. His predecessor had
gone to the markets in Little Italy, held court in public places, lived in the city, and interacted with his
soldiers and capos. Big Paul on the other hand, generally held court at his private estate, did

Taking a Look at the Space Race
The 20th century was a complex and eventful time period for the Soviet Union. The Union of Soviet
Socialist Republics (also known as the USSR or Soviet Union) survived and advanced through a
century that consisted of revolutions, changes in leadership figures and policies, and events such as
World War II and the Cold War. As this union experienced a period of so much change, there is no
doubt that these events had a variety of large impacts on the history and culture of the Soviet Union.
However, a certain series of events and explorations that also reached a peak during this era often took
a more subtle route of impact on Soviet society and culture. Space exploration in the Soviet Union and
across the world took a huge leap forward toward the end of the 20th century. Namely, the Space Race
between the Soviet Union and the United States of America lasted from the 1950 s to the 1970 s and
engaged the country in an intense competition to the moon. While the Space Race did focus on
achieving greatness in space, a deeper analysis showed that it revolved around the desire to obtain
supremacy in not only the spaceflight sector of the world, but also as a powerhouse nation in general.
The United States and the USSR pushed each other to complete the first to launch into space, send
humans to space, and finally to reach the moon. Ultimately, one of the largest ways that the Space
Race incluenced the culture and people of the Soviet Union happened through the creation of

Is The Flimsy Switch Morally Wrong
Now, considering what Chituc and Henne have written there, consider the following trolley scenario
of my own. You can call it The Flimsy Switch: Version A: Smith is standing next to a signal switch
and notices a trolley is heading toward five men (all strangers to her) who will die if nothing is done.
Smith realizes that turning this switch will send the out of control train down a side track, where there
is a single person tied to the track, who she recognizes as her good friend Ramirez, and who will
inevitably die if Smith throws the switch. Unbeknownst to Smith, the switch is actually quite flimsy,
and when she decides to throw the switch, it breaks and the trolley careens into the five, killing them
all. Now, answer the following question: Immediately after the switch breaks (rendering it inoperable),

who are in need of hearing it. Through the act of making terrible decisions, the Mariner along with his

The Blitz In Graham Greene s The Destructors

ENG 274 OL
Dr. Marilyn Johnson
24 October 2017
Major Paper
Graham Greene wrote The Destructors which is about a group of boys who destroys Mr. Thomas s
house. The story takes place after WWII and explains that Germany demolished London. There are
two things that the story connects to the history of London; one is when Germany attacks London. The
attack was known as The Blitz and shows how much damage Germany has caused London. Another
connection is the movement of the Teddy Boys. The story took place after nine years when the war
ended, and the Teddy Boys movement began around the 1950s. They were known as rebels and had a
reputation for violence. Thus the society blamed the Teddy Boys for many of society s ill in the 1950s.
The history of the Blitz shows how the boys are affected and this is connected to them because they
tend to be rebels and what their response to the world around them. Graham Greene s The Destructors
explained that young people have no hope and promises and challenges the traditional expectations of
them, by showing them to be incapable of finding something practical in the world around them and
within themselves.
The Blitz began in England in September 1940; Germans required avoiding a long war. The Blitz, also

Nature of South China Sea Disputes
The issues on South China Sea disputes are inherently complex and are compounded by conflicting
interpretations from the claimant states. In attempting to dissect this conundrum, Dutton (2011)
propounds a framework to explain the three facets to the disputes territorial sovereignty, jurisdiction
over sea zones, and control over military activities. The argument on territorial sovereignty premises
on the notion of complete state authority over part of, or all of the islands in the South China Sea, in
particular the Paracel and Spratly Islands. Common to both, China is the only state that has made
sovereignty claims over both clusters of islands. It is noted that since 1949, the Zhou Enlai
government has published maps with nine dashes forming a U shape line in the South China Sea
demarcating its maritime boundaries (Nguyen, 2012). In late 2012, China even published maps with
the U shape line in its new passports (Anderlini amp; Bland, 2012). Separately, Dillon (2011) posits
that Beijing s territorial assertion in the South China Sea stems from the historical tributary system

Low Voter Turnout
Our American Government text mentions 7 different reasons for exceptionally low voter turnout in the
United States. These reasons range from not having mandatory elections to when the elections are
held, but there are two reasons that I find to be the most influential.
Voting used to be something special; a privilege. Now, elections are held so frequently that they no
longer have that allure to them. That combined with the feeling that your vote won t change the
overall outcome causes for more potential voters to avoid the polls.
The second reason that I find to be highly influential is pre registration. I don t think that this should
change, however it can be difficult to find the time and means to register for an election. This

As soon as they did that the competition also started to do things like that, he wanted to make
something that first no one knew what it means and how to spell it, that is when he came up with the
word excelsior .
As he was working in the letter department he noticed that the letters were too simple and boring. That
s why he changed the whole thing to make it friendlier. Most of the letters came like, deer editor I
liked your story signed Charles and the way you had to answer it was deer Charles thanks signed the
editor. He wanted the letters to be friendlier, so what he did was change it to deer Stan instead of deer
editor when he printed it out and for the name he would do something like hey thanks a lot Charlie.
There was one occasion when they were stuck with a bad story, they weren t able to change it up

something like Hey kids I ve got to admit this isn t the best story we ve ever done,

Chicago Bulls
Did Michael Jordan leaving affect the team negatively? The Bulls, to this day have held the stunning
record of 87 13 with the help of the legend Michael Jordan but did that all change when he left? Can
the team still bring back amazing records and win more then one straight championship in a row like
Michael Jordan.? Jordan impacted the Bulls during his time by helping his team get to the NBA
championship several times throughout his career, his achievements helped his team realize how much
they were capable of being some of the best players in the NBA, and he was the one who won the
games to get them in the higher ranks.
Michael Jordan was born February 17, 1963 in Brooklyn, New York. He grew up in Wilmington,
North Carolina, where he ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Jordan was a very big part of the Chicago Bulls by helping them achieve top scores and ranks placing
them in the memories of fans and people worldwide to this day. There is no doubt that Michael Jordan
was special. But what he did for his team will never be forgotten. The attainments of his career were
spectacular. His six time NBA finals MVP awards are just a glimpse at how great he was. He
dedicated his life to the game of basketball and to the Chicago Bulls. There is no question that Jordan
leaving hurt the team. If he had not, the Bulls would have been NBA champions seven or eight times
depending on the period of his departure, and he would have gotten two more NBA finals MVP
awards instead of Hakeem Olajuwon. Overall it is safe to conclude that my statement of Michael
Jordan s time off affecting the team poorly is now an ideal

The key issue presented in front of the management is the possible steps to be taken by the
management in order to avoid such losses. Critical Thought The issue addressed by the accounting
system of Dakota office products invites our attention to the premise of Activity Based costing
methodology. We are certain about the fact that the accounting and reporting system at Dakota Office
Product is inappropriate and is leading to the company making wrong decision ultimately leading to
losses. This was apparent from the record where the company was able to increase its sales without a
corresponding increase in the profits for that particular year. Activity based costing system is an
approach which seeks to allocate the overhead cost to the products on a scientific and realistic basis.
The existing system of allocating cost at Dakota Office products were inadequate in so much so that it
was following an unreasonable basis for allocating the cost, which were known and visible, such as
the desktop delivery cost. The existing system was suffering from oversight of some of the expenses.
ABC costing system seeks to overcome the problem of oversight and make a more reasonable
allocation of the costs. The distinctive feature of this method is the fact that the method can provide
useful insights to the management as to the activities which are leading to the cost by

All City Choir Essay There s a bigger song emerging from the music wing this year, but even though the women s choir has more than doubled from the 36 girls in the fall of 2012 to the 82 girls enrolled this fall, choir director Elliot Kranz said that teaching that many girls at one time isn t any different than teaching any other ensemble. There are just more girls. He said he believes there are a number of reasons for such an increase in numbers in the group. One is because of the success of the women s choir in the past. Junior Anna Stillman said she thinks it s awesome to have so many girls in the choir and they are starting to sing very well as a group, although at times it is hard to have a good balance of sound with so many voices at one time. It can be distracting at times. I love choir, and when other people continue to talk while we are trying to sing and learn new pieces, it can be distracting. But in the long run, Stillman also said she thinks that having more girls in choir will make them better as a whole because they have a lot of strong upperclassmen singers and some very talented sophomores with good voices coming to help them out. However, in watching the movie Smoke Signals, a movie that depicts the modern Native American culture, I learned many other things. For one, I learned that many of the customs that modern Native Americans have are very similar to my own. I also saw that the family life of the Native Americans in the film had many of the same problems that my family had undergone in the past years. My family has also had this problem. I have never been a victim of child abuse, but my father s abuse of alcohol has impacted me in many ways. My dad has missed so many important events in my life, such as making the cheerleading squad, my first prom, and even the day I got my license. After seeing this movie I realized that even if my dad could recover from alcoholism, it could never make up for all the years we lost together. Lives are ruined by this terrible addiction everyday; not only the alcoholic s life, but also the lives of those who love them. I thought this film was very unique because it shows the true Native American perspective of everyday life, not the usual phony stereotype of Indians such as teepees and bow and arrows. It also showed how much Native Americans are not much different than other cultures. Instead of singling other cultures out or judging people that are different from ... After several years of a person doing this, one must see the moral claim that a person should have the right to citizenship. The contemporary rules to acquire citizenship are made from beliefs and they violate the human right to freedom of conscience. Renouncing other citizenships serves no purpose for the state. In fact, these are abuses that will discriminate against the poor (the process is expensive), and the civic citizenship test is an undemocratic standardize test that reveals nothing else the unfairness and nation centric view of the state. As a side note, the only edge that Carens is willing to accept, on the conventional assumption that states have sizeable moral discretion over border policies, is the absence of a criminal record, but only the absence of a criminal record that would morally warrant and actually result ... • 20. Cultural Conflicts That Influenced His Moral Compass And... In the story Bless Me, Ultima, Antonio faced several cultural conflicts that influenced his moral compass and cultural identity. First, he faced a cultural conflict between his mother and father s aspirations regarding his destiny. His mother wanted Antonio to pursue a future life as a priest, while his father wanted Antonio to be a cowboy. Similarly, I grappled with the same battle as a child. My mother wanted me to pursue medicine, while my father wanted me to become an engineer and follow their footsteps. Just like Antonio had learned from Ultima, this was an element I had to decide for myself. I found out from life experiences that my passion for science, the human body, and the desire to prolong and save people s lives, ultimately made my decision to pursue medicine. Another cultural conflict he faced was between his Spanish speaking self and his English speaking schoolmates. Throughout his life, he had followed the Spanish culture of his family, who mainly spoke Spanish in their home. His first day of school, he noticed that his English speaking schoolmates were less accepting of his culture when he spoke Spanish in front of the class and unpacked his lunch filled with Hispanic food, which differed from the sandwiches his schoolmates brought for lunch. I shared the same prejudice as Antonio when I initially came to Los Angeles from the Philippines. • 22. Western Ideology of Orientalism in John Luther Long’s play... Outline I. Introduction Topic sentence: II. Madame Butterfly The Western ideology of the Eastern exoticism and docility originates from the long historical context of imperialism and political tensions between the West and the East. Domestic struggles caused by political strife and war in the East, such as the Philippines during the American Spanish War and China during the Opium Wars, created an opportunity for the West to infiltrate the destabilized Eastern countries. This access allowed the West to exercise a form of supremacy over Asia, as the East was seen as powerless and incapable of self governance. Thus, considering themselves as racially and politically superior, the West adopted a White Man s Burden mentality; it is the duty of the Western men to dominate the East and civilize the uneducated and old fashioned Orientals. This historical framework would eventually construct the Oriental stereotype of the Lotus Blossom and the Oriental Butterfly . As portrayed by the delicate and docile character, Hana Ogi, in the film Sayonara (1957), the Lotus Blossom depicts an Oriental woman who is quiet, modest, and always submissive to her man. Writer Sui Seen further emphasizes this stereotypical figure in her description of Chinese merchant wives: She has a true affection for her husband [...] She loves him because she has been given to him to be his wife. The characters of Karl and Mary are introduced as two completely opposing people. Throughout the passage, Erdrich explores how the childrens reactions to the environment reveal their differing perspectives and understandings. Erdrich chooses to convey this scene via third person narration and an ambivalent tone in order to convey the bleak setting of this story. The author utilizes imagery ...cold spring morning...lips were violet...feet were numb... to show the extent of the uninviting environment. Even referring to the train that the children were transported on, there is a comparison to the tone. The train is seen as a cold metal machine, similar to the emotionless nature of the speaker. • 25. Witches Power In Macbeth In William Shakespeare s Macbeth, the theme of acting on beliefs illustrates men as the weak and women as the strong in the story. This flaw in the men restrains them from fully acting upon what they believe, and instead, do as the women persuade and manipulate them to do. With the flaw in the men, it allows the women to use them to further contrast their power. Even when the men make attempts to make right, the women exploit the men s flaw of belief and will to fulfill their own goals. Shakespeare uses the witches to illustrate the men s inability to act on their belief, to create a substantial difference in strength and power the women have over the men. The witches guide Macbeth towards the path of becoming king, which illustrates Macbeth s fatal flaw for the first time in the story as he then proves the witches prophecy. This displays the witches power over Macbeth as he completes their prophecy. The witches utilize Macbeth to view their own superiority over men by the witches manipulating and persuading them. Shakespeare uses the rant made by Hecate, to embellish the witches actions against Macbeth as manipulative to prove their dominance and superiority over him. It is the key component to understand how a Hadoop cluster can be scaled over hundreds or thousands of nodes. The large amounts of data in Hadoop cluster is broken down to smaller blocks and distributed across small inexpensive servers using HDFS. Now, MapReduce functions are executed on these smaller blocks of data thus providing the scalability needed for big data processing. In this paper I will discuss in detail on Hadoop, the architecture of HDFS, how it functions and the advantages. I. INTRODUCTION Over the years it has become very essential to process large amounts of data with high precision and speed. This large amounts of data that can no more be processed using the Traditional Systems is called Big Data. Hadoop, a Linux based tools framework addresses three main problems faced when processing Big Data which the Traditional Systems cannot. The first problem is the speed of the data flow, the second is the size of the data and the last one is the format of data. Hadoop divides the data and computation into smaller pieces, sends it to different computers, then gathers the results to combine them and sends it to the application. This is done using Map Reduce and HDFS i.e., Hadoop Distributed File System. The data node and the name node part of the architecture fall under HDFS. II. ARCHITECTURE Hadoop works on ... Despite the Motion Picture Code Committee restricting admission to anyone under sixteen, teenagers still camped out for two days to see the opening screening (G. Sparks and C. Sparks 269). The film was controversial for its extreme violence, but the reactions of the adults to try and control their children tellingly echoed the conflict within the film itself, something its director had purposefully highlighted. Kinji Fukasaku used props throughout his film to represent the challenging relationships between the older and younger generations of Japan. Based in real life encounters and the failings of the Japanese school system, Fukasaku brought the conflicts between the government, parents, teachers, and students to the screen in a darkly humorous bloodbath. Authority Figures versus Children To better understand Fukasaku s approach to his film, it will help to examine his own childhood. Many members felt that Aniello Dellacroce, although in prison, deserved the role but instead Gambino had promoted Paul. Some saw this as nepotism which was generally frowned upon on by La Cosa Nostra. To settle tensions Castellano gifted Neil Dellacroce some of the family s most lucrative operations throughout Manhattan and Queens, but this did not completely satisfy the slighted underboss. The Union of Soviet Socialist Republics (also known as the USSR or Soviet Union) survived and advanced through a century that consisted of revolutions, changes in leadership figures and policies, and events such as World War II and the Cold War. As this union experienced a period of so much change, there is no doubt that these events had a variety of large impacts on the history and culture of the Soviet Union. However, a certain series of events and explorations that also reached a peak during this era often took a more subtle route of impact on Soviet society and culture. Space exploration in the Soviet Union and across the world took a huge leap forward toward the end of the 20th century. Namely, the Space Race between the Soviet Union and the United States of America lasted from the 1950 s to the 1970 s and engaged the country in an intense competition to the moon. While the Space Race did focus on achieving greatness in space, a deeper analysis showed that it revolved around the desire to obtain supremacy in not only the spaceflight sector of the world, but also as a powerhouse nation in general.
