What power did the individual states maintain? Who was given more power, the national government
or the individual states? What were the implications of such a balance?
The states were willing to concede to concede to taxing with the states consent and also congress s
consent (Article V/II Section 25 29).
The individual states had quite a bit of power. It says how the states are in charge of supplying money
to a national government treasury. (How much money you put in depends on how big or small your
state is). The states had to agree upon taxes for paying for warfare as well, the national government
hadn t just forced these ideas upon them. (Article VIII Section 15 18).
The states had more power because the people had a say in how much money was used. The Articles
of Confederation said that the colonists had more control (because the states had representatives) over
the decisions that were being made. Overall, the states had to give their consent to the national
government in order for the national government to enforce it. This is significant because they were
ruled finally under a fair and just government whirr they had a say rather than a government where
laws were being constantly poured onto them without their

Gebser Vs Lago Vista Independent School Case Study
School safety and student wellness are paramount in an educational learning environment;
consequently, this is the expectancy of all internal and external stakeholders adjoining the school
community. Meanwhile, there are numerous reports of female teachers implicated in inappropriate
sexual behavior with students published in the news daily. The sexual misconduct by female teachers
vacillated from sexual harassment, abuse via emails, sextexting via cell phones, to illicit conversations
via the Internet (Facebook, Twitter, Snapchat, and WhatsApp). Joselyn (2011) stated, students may

whether the independent misconduct of a teacher is attributable to the school district that employs him

An Essay On Detective Mills Character
Detective Mills Character from the movie Se7en
The movie itself has a complex design and was a thriller/horror/crime Hollywood kind of film that
was done in 1995. It is directed by the director of the Fight Club film that is David Fincher. The main
characters in this movie include Morgan Freeman who plays the character of William Somerset and
Brad Pitt who plays the character of David Mills. The two characters get involved in a series of
horrible murders carried out by a serial killer who finds his inspiration from the Seven Deadly sins
theme that is wrath, envy, gluttony, sloth, lust, greed and pride (TVTropes, n.d.). The character of
Mills depicted in this film balances between the roles of hero and villain and therefore Detective Mills

he is portrayed as an idealistic person in his work which is mainly channeled by the fact that he has a
naïve egotism as represented when he contradicts with officer Somerset. Officer Somerset wishes to
retire soon and intends on leaving a legacy in detective Mills as they both have the same views of
justice and ideals in a town filled with corruption but Mills being a person who is headstrong does not
allow Officer Somerset to fully change his character. Since Detective Mills is full of pride, this makes
him to fall from grace as the movie/film nears the end. The death of envy was realized when Tracy,
Mills wife died and with the death of Doe in Mills hands also results in the death of wrath through loss
of freedom and innocence. His death was also the death of envy as he admitted in the movie that he
envied mills. From this events of the death of Tracy his wife, Detective Mills character changed as his
life was ruined which also resulted in the shattering of his idealism. In the film, from then henceforth
Mills becomes the murderer s plaything because everything he loved and treasured was taken away
from him by the murderer and thus acts as expected by Doe (Wakeman,

Working With Complex Business Environment
To cope with complex business environment, all companies need measurement and management tool
to evaluate and control operations. Bernard Marr (2013) a leading business and data expert believe
that if management tools are properly used they can be powerful enablers of changes and actions in
companies. Currently, the world s six most widely used management tools are as follows:Strategic
Planning, Customer Relationship Management, Employee Engagement Surveys, Benchmarking,
Outsourcing and Balanced Scorecard. Of which Balanced Scorecard (BSC) is an idea that has not
came out for a long period but has been discussed a lot. This essay will examine the BSC approach

Rigby and Bilodeau (2015) reported in Bain s Management tools and trends survey that BSC ranked
the top six worlds most popular tools of 2014. It also achieved high satisfaction among executives. It
was noticed that the usage rates of BSC vary by regions with slightly higher usage in EMEA (44%),
North America (39%) and Latin America (39%) and lower usage in APAC (28%). The BSC is widely
used in all types of companies including businesses, non profit companies and government
organizations although different companies create their own unique BSC approach corresponding to
their key success factors and operation mode.
The balanced scorecard can act as different roles in a company. When acting as a measurement of
performance, BSC follows two steps. Firstly, it draws objectives and measures from the company s
overall strategy. In other worlds, it converts the vague strategy into detailed actions. Then, by using
these objectives and measures as a benchmark, the performance are evaluated from four different
aspects including the financial, customer, internal business process and learning and growth
perspective (Kaplan and Norton, 1996). The financial perspective concentrates on financial health of a
company, it is the most direct way for executives to measure organization performance. Usually, the
good performance of the other three perspectives of the scorecard will lead to good results of financial
performance as the four perspectives are interrelated. In terms of

My Most Memorable Experience
I have dyslexia. Sometimes it s hard to read or spell out loud. Reading is something that is at times
difficult to understand, because of misinterpretations, yet I love to become immersed in a well written
novel. Having that said I have had several experiences where reading has helped me to become a
better writer. When writing I tend to lack an ability to keep my writer interested. The more I have read,
the more I have found new ways to keep my readers entwined to what I want to say when using tone
or writing style. By reading many books I have found new ways to make my writing exceptional. My
most memorable experience started my first day of my Junior Senior year. I walked into class with my
small group of friends and the teacher that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

miserable because I could finish the book, but if you asked me to explain what I read I would just get

I had to pull my teacher to the side. I wanted to understand the books so I needed to listen to my
music. I explained to her my dyslexia and how I coped with it so that I could understand the books
that we read in class, she understood my struggles and helped me by letting me discretely listen to
music without any of my other classmates catching me doing it. With the music, I could read books
and not have difficulty understanding the words. I became one of the fastest readers in her class, I
bulldozed through the books that I had written down on my someday list. I came to a point where I
didn t have any more books that I was interested in reading until my teacher started to give me
suggestions on books that I should read. She had found that in one of the essays I wrote, I would use
the influences from the books I read to catch my reader s attention, I would make my writing more
interesting by using different writing techniques that I learned from reading these books.
I began to read these books that Ms. Rasheed recommended for me and I found that the various genres

Persuasive School Uniforms
The idea of school uniforms seems comparable to an old schooled idea that seems to penetrate across
school boards everywhere every year. Although wearing uniforms is mostly practiced in private
schools, more and more schools yearly are rallying together to introduce school uniforms to the
students. For numberless schools across the nation, wearing uniforms is the norm and a wide variety
of the students say they enjoy knowing what they will be wearing the next day. As each country begins
to seize the nation with higher scores of each school, countless numbers of people begin to wonder if
the drastic change in scores could be the uniforms. In spite of whether or not schools are deciding to
switch the dress code to uniforms, there should be one decision in the end, which should be to enforce
uniforms in all South Harrison School Corporations Schools. Countless schools ... Show more content

In addition to knowing what the students will be wearing the next day, the parents relish in the idea
that they will have a less stressful morning and get the chance to relax a little bit. According to a
national 2013 survey, over 90% of US school leaders believe school uniform or formal dress code
policies eliminate wardrobe battles with kids, make it easier to get kids ready in the morning, and
create a time saving in the morning (School). Besides just private schools enforcing uniforms, many
public schools are switching to the uniforms due to the increase in the learning ability and the scores.
A bulletin published by the National Association of Secondary School Principals stated that When all
students are wearing the same outfit, they are less concerned about how they look and how they fit in
with their peers; thus, they can concentrate on their schoolwork (School). To help decrease the number
of bullying reports in the schools, uniforms need to be a part of the everyday lifestyles of the

Scarlet Ibis Symbolism
Symbolism Used in The Scarlet Ibis
In The Scarlet Ibis by James Hurst, Hurst uses the symbol of birds to further explain the theme of
death in the story. Even from the very first paragraph, birds are used to foreshadow the ending of the
story. Hurst illustrates, The five o clock by the chimney still marked time, but the oriole nest in the
elm was untenanted and rocked back and forth like an empty cradle. (Hurst 1). In this sentence, Hurst
is describing an Oriole birds nest that is sitting empty in a tree. This foreshadows the ending of the
book by symbolizing Doodle s absence by the end of the story. Even though the brother s life will
continue on, like the clocks, Doodles spot in the brother s life will be much like Symbolism Used in

Hurst again uses bird symbols in the story when he vividly describes, The bird began to flutter, but the
wings were uncoordinated, and amid much flapping and a spray of flying feathers, it tumbled down,
bumping through the limbs of the bleeding tree and landing at our feet with a thud. (Hurst 5). While
telling the story of the ibis, Hurst is simultaneously describing Doodle s demise. Right before Doodle
dies, he is attempting to catch up to his brother in the thunderstorm. Even though Doodle tries hard to
catch up to his brother, much like the bird who is attempting to fly, Doodle s physical shortcomings
cause him to fail. Hurst then directly relates Doodle s death to a bird when he is describing Doodle s
death. Doodle s brother recounts, I screamed above the pounding storm and threw my body to the
earth above his. For a long time, it seemed forever, I lay there crying, sheltering my fallen scarlet ibis
from the heresy of rain. (Hurst 6). Hurst related Doodle s dead body to the dead ibis from earlier in the
story. This metaphor seems to help his brother come to terms with what has happened. Although he
had been cruel to him by running ahead of him, he is comforting Doodle now that he is dead. The
many bird symbols throughout The Scarlet Ibis help to further support the theme of death in the

Odyssey Death and Rebirth in the Odyssey
The Odyssey, by Homer, is a classical piece of Greek literature. Throughout
The Odyssey, the Blind Bard makes use of many literary techniques in order
to lend meaning to the poem beyond its existence as a work of historic fiction
and aid his readers in the comprehension of the tale. One of these techniques
is the use of motifs. A motif is a recurring theme that is used throughout the
work. In The Odyssey, Homer makes use of many motifs including
eating/drinking, Odysseus s anger, bathing, and disguise, just to name a few.
However, perhaps the most important of Homer s motifs is the symbolic death
and rebirth theme. This motif is used throughout The Odyssey to emphasize
the growth and enlightenment of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Cyclops, if
any mortal man ever asks you who it was that inflicted upon your eye this
shameful blinding, tell him that you were blinded by Odysseus, sacker of cities
(IX. 502 4). The symbolic rebirth of Odysseus can be emphasized by the
cave, which can be seen as a symbol of the womb, therefore making
Odysseus emergence from the cyclops s cave a true rebirth. The next
example of the death and rebirth motif is a rather obvious one that needs little
symbolic inference: Odysseus s descent into the underworld in book XI. Homer
uses many light and dark references to emphasize the death and rebirth
theme in this book darkness symbolizing death and light symbolizing life and
therefore rebirth. . . .how is it then, unhappy man, you have left the sunlight
and come here to look on dead men, and this place without pleasure? (XI.
93 4). While in the underworld, Odysseus gains insights about his eventual
return home. With this knowledge, Odysseus and his crew return to the world
of the living, symbolizing their rebirth. Again, light and dark images are used to
emphasize this rebirth. . . .where Helios, the sun, makes his uprising . . . (XII.
4). As illustrated in the preceding line, Odysseus returns from the Underworld
to the place where the sun rises the symbolism is obvious. The

Emotions Are Perceptions Of Bodily Changes
In this essay I will support the non cognitive view that emotions are perceptions of bodily changes . I
will agree with the non cognitivist claim that emotions are perceptions of bodily changes by showing
the arguments for this position, as well as showing how non cognitivists are able to defend themselves
from cognitivists, thus further supporting their position. 1. The distinction between cognitivists and
non cognitivists I will start the essay by showing the distinction between cognitivist and non
cognitivist positions. Unlike cognitivists who suggest that emotions are forms of judgment [1], non
cognitivists like William James and Carl Lange think that emotions are the consequences of patterned
bodily changes and, hence, that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
2. Arguments for a non cognitivist position on emotions I will now show how non cognitivists can
support their position that emotions are perceptions of bodily changes , and how they are able to
answer to critiques posed by cognitivists. There are two studies which provide empirical evidence for
a non cognitivist account. 2.1 Damasio s 1994 study: emotions include internal bodily changes In his
1994 study, Damasio claims that emotions are not just general bodily changes, but they also include
internal changes like changes in hormonal levels. Damasio claims that emotions happen deep inside
the person s body and could occur on a very profound chemical level. For instance, when we feel
happy, the feeling of happiness would be a change in hormonal levels, e.g. an increase in the levels of
dopamine and serotonin. Hence, I think this study empitically supports the claim that emotions are
changes in hormonal levels or other similar internal bodily changes. 2.2 Critchley s 2001 study: people
with brain damage experience decreased emotional response In 2001, Critchley claimed that [p]eople
with brain damage that prevents them from accurately monitoring bodily changes report a diminution
of affective response. This means that, according to Critchley, when people s monitoring of their
bodily changes decreases, they suffer from deacresed emotional response. This could, arguably, show
that with diminuished bodily capacities, we experience

Life Is So Good by George Dawson and Richard Glaubman
Good Afternoon Ms. McCafferty, I made this appointment because I passionately believe that the
book, Life is so good written by George Dawson and Richard Glaubman should be on the Carey
booklist for Year 9 students. Life is so good is a magnificent part biography, part autobiography of a
103 year old black man named George Dawson who went to school to learn to read and write when he
was 98 years old.
George Dawson may be 103 but he can still walk without a cane and can remember his life with an

This is an example of how the black men in America were treated back then.
As the story progresses the reader is told that George has to work the fields because he s the oldest,
while his younger brothers and sisters get to go to school and learn to read and write. George lives a
life of working very hard and getting paid very little but his motto is:
Life is so good. I do believe it s getting better.
When George turns 18 he feels as though he has explore the land, so he simply packs up and leaves,
without a clue of where he s heading. After a train ride or two he ends up in Mexico where he is all
confused because whites and blacks are eating and talking together, and catching the same buses and
trains together as well. After living and dealing with segregation all his life this is something
completely different for him and he struggles to adjust to the new style of life.
As the story nears the end the past catches up with the present and it goes on to describe George s
dedicated student lifestyle. He writes: Every morning I get up and I wonder what I might learn that
day. You just never know. George also reflects on the attitude of people these days: People worry too
much. Life is good, just the way it is.
In summary I think this book would be a great book to go on the Carey booklist because it has such
unusual but effective style of writing which many Year 9 s would benefit from the exposure to. It also

the fact that some of the articles of the Offering were used as propaganda to represent the girls as

War Communism And The Russian Civil War
After the Tsar regime was overthrown in 1917, Russia experienced further discontent as its people
carried out revolution and civil war (Modern World History: Russia 1905 41). From these occurrences,
Russia then became the first communist state in the world. The Bolsheviks had become the ruling
party after taking over the Provisional Government in the revolution of November 1917. Vladimir
Lenin had been the leader of this party. There was a bitter civil war between the Communists who
were the Reds and the opposition being the Whites. As a final point the Bolsheviks defeated their
enemies in the Russian Civil War that lasted for 3 years and ended in 1920.

War Communism had been implemented by Lenin in 1918 because of the needs of the Civil War. The
Russian economy was now aimed at providing the supplies it needed for the army (Modern World
History: War Communism and Red Terror). The Bolsheviks party decided to move away from state
capitalism because they felt the need to intensify authority, through communism (Reaction and
Revolution: Russia 1894 1924 Third Edition: War Communism). Lenin introduced harsh restrictive
policies to create the new communist rule. All aspects of life in Russia were controlled by the
Bolsheviks as they implemented severe terms upon its people. Social, political and economic areas of
life had to become subordinate to the aim of winning the Civil War (Reaction and Revolution: Russia
1894 1924 Third Edition: War Communism).
The aim of War Communism was to bring industry and agriculture under central control. Thus the
policy of centralization was put into play. This concentrated mainly on the political and economic
center of Russia. In addition this created a great increase of Bolshevik influence. There was
development within the factories through Bolsheviks influence. Lenin then put a Decree on
Nationalism. In less than two years Russia s enterprises were all under the central government control

Comparsion Of Adam And Eve In The Book Of Genesis
Inthe book of Genesis God reveals himself to Adam after he ate the forbidden fruit. God knew that
Adam and Eve had disobeyed him and disobedience leads to sin and sin leads to death and so that is
why he came by to see what they had done. Whenever we sin, God speaks to us through the Holy
Spirit and let us know what we had done and he calls us to repent, however, we all know that if we
don t repent then we will bring judgement on ourselves.
According to the Bible, the Lord God took man, and put him into the garden of Eden to dress it and to
keep it. And the Lord God commanded the man saying, of every tree of the garden thou may freely
eat: But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou
eat thereof thou shalt surely die (Genesis. 2:15 17 King James Version). This is important because God
had told Adam the way in which he should live and the way he could also die. He was given the task
to rule over the Garden of even, but there was just one thing he could not do. Adam was not to eat fruit
of the tree of knowledge, because his life would be taken away. By Adam being disobedient, us as

Before everything, there was nothing. It was nothing, yet it was something. A void filled of colour

As empty as the Chaos was, it was unexpectedly still inhabited. Inhabited by creatures with an entire

Friar Lawrence Guilty Analysis
In our lovely town of Verona, many terrible events have occurred recently, including the death of one
of our lovely youths, Juliet Capulet. Friar Lawrence, as we all know, has been here through all of these
tragedies, and he is the only person who can be blamed for the death of fair Juliet. Ladies and
gentlemen of the jury, although Friar Lawrence has most likely helped us all throughout our lives, I
must request that you all put aside your bias in this trial and aid the state in putting this extremely
dangerous man in prison where he belongs. The friar, a trusted member of our society who always has
good intentions, is guilty for the death of Juliet Capulet, and must be punished for his actions and
recent mistakes.
As members of Verona s society, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The first mistake that Friar Lawrence committed was to give Juliet the vial that we have already seen
that she used. Before giving her this vial, the friar said, [...] if thou darest, I ll give thee remedy (183).
The friar is abusing the trust that Juliet has placed in him by giving her something that could
potentially injure her or even kill her. This, obviously, is not the duty of a devout Christian man such
as Friar Lawrence; he should never have put Juliet s life in danger by giving her this vial. One can
assume that without the friar s involvement and his abuse of Juliet s faith, the results of this situation
would have been very different. Though we cannot know for sure, it is extremely likely that had Friar
Lawrence not intervened, Juliet would not be in her family tomb with the dead body of Romeo next to
her. If the friar had acted as a man of virtue would be expected to act then he never would have
provided Juliet with such a potentially dangerous potion. The second mistake that the friar made was
much later when Juliet awoke from her drug induced slumber. The friar states to Juliet at this point, I
hear some noise. Lady, come from that nest/Of death contagion, and unnatural sleep./...Thy husband in
thy bosom there lies dead,/...Come, go, good Juliet. I dare no longer stay . Juliet

Stop-and-Frisk Policy
The stop and frisk policy could be considered a big controversy facing New York in recent times. The
whole concept behind this stopping and frisking is the police officer, with reasonable suspicion of
some crime committed or about to be committed, stops a pedestrian, questions them, then if needed
frisks the person. This policy started gaining public attention back in 1968 from the Terry v. Ohio
case. A police officer saw the three men casing a store and he believed they were going to rob the
store; this led to him stopping and frisking them. After frisking them, he found a pistol and took the
weapon from the men. The men then cried foul and claimed they were unconstitutionally targeted and
frisked. One of the biggest reason ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Once in a high crime area, the police use every tool they have to send the message that law and order
remains in effect (Mac Donald). Knowing that police cannot take people from these high crime areas
and take away their weapons may spark fear in the residents living in those areas. Stop and frisk was
initially employed as a sort of crime deterrent, a way to keep crime off of the streets. Without this
policy, criminals will not have any incentive to stop carrying concealed weapons; this will cause crime
to rise again and citizens to live in fear.
With the abolishment of stop and frisk reasonable suspicion will have a stricter definition. In the
Alabama v. White case an officer got an anonymous tip and then detaining the men based on that tip. (
Stop and Frisk ). The case questioned whether that tip was reason enough to detain White. People
question whether the police have enough reasonable suspicion to stop half of the people that are
stopped because of the stop and frisk policy. Rolando del Carmen, a professor of Criminal Justice at
the Sam Houston State University, wrote, A stop is valid only if an officer has reasonable suspicion
that a suspect has committed a crime or is about to commit a crime... In contrast, a frisk has only one
purpose: officer protection. A frisk for any other purpose is invalid even if evidence of a crime is later
discovered (57). This clearly states under what conditions a police officer can

Comparison Of The Youngstown City School District
The two district I chose to compare to the Youngstown City School District are Canton School and
Mansfield School Districts. As I was going through the report cards I was not surprised at the
similarities between Canton Schools and Youngstown, due to the fact that they are both city school
districts. However, I was surprised with the scores from the Mansfield s report card, and I am not sure
why?
Below is a breakdown/comparison of the three school districts:
As I compiled this report looking at the overall report card these three districts are very similar. They
all received an overall F on their State Report Card but there were a few differences that stood out to
me. First is the K 3 Literacy, Youngstown received a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In YCSD it seems that Students with Disabilities are the students who move the most, while CCSD
has both Limited English and the Hispanic students are the most mobile and MCSD the Limited

When looking at District Report Cards all we usually hear about is student data, not realizing that
there is also teacher data reported in this document. Looking over the data as a whole the schools are
pretty similar in teacher data. Attendance was at between 93% and 94%, while teacher students ratio
per 1000 students was lower than the state average in all schools. Teacher s average pay was within
$5000.00, MCSD was the lowest at $52,000.00 and CCSD being the highest at $57,000.00. Looking
at teacher and principal evaluations YCSD and MCSD had no teachers with an Effective evaluation,
the highest percentage of teachers fell under Accomplished in evaluations. As for principals YCSD
and MCSD principals were either Accomplished or Skilled, the majority were Skilled, in all Districts.
As for CCSD, they had no one Accomplished, but they did have Developing and Effective.
Finance was the final section of the report I looked at and YCSD spends the most per pupil, over
$11,000 while the other two districts between $8800 and $9400 and about 65% of that are spent on
classrooms.
Looking through these report cards from an administrative lens , I was looking at more than just the

Analysis Of The Wife Of His Youth
The Wife of His Youth is a short story by Charles Chesnutt about a bourgeoisie man named Mr. Ryder
who is in a dilemma when the wife of his past shows up a day before he proposes to his lover, Mrs.
Molly Dixon. Originally Sam Taylor, an apprentice on a plantation, Mr. Ryder runs away and settles in
a light colored community Groveland where he becomes a bourgeoisie. In Groveland, Ryder joins a
colored organization Blue Veins where he further advances himself in society and becomes the dean of
the organization. The Blue Veins Society is created to establish and maintain correct social standards
among a people whose social condition presented almost unlimited room for improvement (Chesnutt
624). As Ryder prepares for the ball and his proposal to Molly, Liza Jane appears in his life and causes
him to thwart his proposal. Instead of proposing to Molly, he presents to his guests, Liza Jane, the wife
of his youth. Chesnutt s The Wife of His Youth addresses race and Chesnutt s view on race, societal
standards, language, and the significance of Liza Jane s appearance with racial identity and the color
line.
Race is an important element in The Wife of His Youth and can be prominently seen in Ryder s
encounter with Liza Jane. Ryder is a mulatto man, but has long forgotten his past and has embraced
the middle class societal life until Liza Jane presents him the case of her missing husband. When
Ryder meets her, she is described as, And she was very black, so black that

How I Operate Within A Working Environment
Introduction Self reflection is the key in gaining an outlook of a student s strengths and weaknesses.
By understanding these characteristics, one can take action to improve upon them. Within this
assignment I will discuss the tasks and challenges that the company Midland Heart has presented. This
will involve reflecting upon such challenges to assess how I operate within a working environment.
My primary role was to shadow the manager of the law team to study the ways in which she organises

understand how the law team is used as a function within the business. Furthermore I also worked

In reality however, there were a number of times where I asked for assistance particularly regarding
some of the legal documents. In retrospect, I should have asked for more detail about certain jobs to
clarify some of the terms. Further to this I had to ensure that my progress was being monitored and
developed and this was maintained by semi regular meetings and informal conversations. Reflecting
on my first work placement, it was rare to have such meetings which often left it difficult to
understand how my skills were being developed. Macduff (2012, p. 24) supports Cooks previous point
going on to suggest that settling within the second year is seen as more advantageous as there is a
natural improvement in confidence. Despite this I still struggled to confidently operate as Midland
Heart was such a drastic difference to Savers. This oversight could have been avoided if I had
discussed the issue with either my tutor or manager to gain an insight into the correct office etiquette.
Networking One of the purposes of pursuing a work placement is to meet working people to
understand how they work. Brooks (2012) establishes that networking within your organisation could
also help an employee with future job opportunities. It was therefore important to utilise this
opportunity to gain a number of contacts in a field that I was interested in. As my previous placement
was in an organisation that I already worked for, it was difficult to find new contacts. This

The Mystery of the False Confession Noah White Ms. Maney American Literature 12/10/2017 In post
9/11 America, one of the most debated topics is the use of torture and unreliable interrogation
techniques to extract information from suspects. Said use of torture is considered not only heinous but
somewhat notorious for producing unreliable and false confessions. In Arthur Miller s The Crucible, a
spotlight is shined on this topic by the situation of the Salem Witch Trials in which so called witches
are forced to confess to their non existent offenses by threat of hanging. Considering these points, the
question must be asked; why are false confessions so prevalent and why do they occur? One of the
earliest recorded instances of a false confessions was the confession of Robert Hubert in 1666 after the
Great London Fire. The London fire destroyed thousands of houses, businesses, 87 churches, and
killed tens of thousands of people. And the man who confessed to starting it? A disabled man in a
wheelchair who wasn t even in London on the day that it started. It is speculated that Robert Hubert,
after slight suspicion on behalf of the king, was interrogated or even tortured for a confession.
According to Rob Jones of History of Forensic Psychology, Despite the many obvious flaws and
impossibilities in Hubert s confession, a scapegoat was needed (Jones 1). Only around the 1980 s did
psychologists and other social scientists begin to truly investigate the phenomena of the false

The main goal of the paper (Bocquet appel, 2002) is to detect the change in the number of humans
from Mesolithic to Neolithic transition. The paper uses a combination of both theoretical and cultural
historical evidence to infer the transition during Neolithic revolution. Previously, such transition in
demography is mainly inferred from genetic data, using the demic expansion model. Bocquet appel

social climate in the play is very grim. No matter where you are in the play there are always characters

Americans who lived on reservations all over America, and most of them went through suffering.
Another social climate is the desire to escape there current situation. Eddie does not want to leave his
sister alone, but he is tired of living on the reservation that he would rather be dead. Aunt Thelma tells
Eddie how life could have been better if she could have escaped, and had a chance at an education.
Mike dreams of leaving and being taken care of by his aunt. Even Katherine dreams of leaving the

the kids can look up to. Even Aunt Thelma has lost her child, so it is not the best example to live by.

Small Business Pros And Cons
With the competition for jobs becoming more and more difficult, instead of applying for some and
crossing their fingers that someone else doesn t get the job before they do, some people are deciding to
start their own small business. A small business is basically a privately owned company that is run by
either a corporation, a partnership, or just a single person. Now, owning a small business comes with
its pros and cons. However, the pros of owning a small business seem to outnumber the cons. So if I
had the choice, I would be interested in owning a small business. Being the owner of a small business
seems to have many benefits. First off, if you decide to work for somebody, then you can only get paid
what they think suits you based off your experience and skills. However, if you own your own small
business, you re able to make much more money because you re able to set your own price that
customers would have to pay for you to provide your goods and/or services. Tying in with setting your
own price points, being the owner of a business means you also get to be your own boss. You re able
to make your own decisions that you believe will turn your small business into a successful one, such
as hiring well qualified employees to help make it run as smoothly as possible. Being the boss of your
own business also means that no one can fire you, so you don t have to worry about spending more

The Oppression Of Girls
I feel that girls encounter more obstacles and provisions, thus growing up is more difficult for them.
For one, society put a lot of emphasis on how a girl should behave and how she should look like. This
puts so much pressure on girls to conform to what society expects them to be. This often affects a girl
s self image resulting in low self esteem and insecurities.
I also feel that girls have the burden to work harder in various areas (not just in academics) to prove
that they are as capable, and that they can be as successful as the boys. In a gender biased society,
boys are often favored as the torch bearers, and girls feel the need to perform comparatively well to
prove that they are not the weaklings society viewed them to be. The

The Perfect Con Man, Hamlet
Hamlet was not insane, but he was conniving, and an amazing actor. In this day and age, Hamlet
would have made the perfect con man. In the first Act in the play, Hamlet is the last person to see his
deceased father. Granted, Hamlet is the only one to speak to the ghost and he is by himself when he
does, but the guards and even Horatio, Before (his) God, (he) might not this believe. . . Without the
sensible and true avouch. . . Of (his) eyes. (Act I Scene I Lines 56 8) serve as witnesses that there is
indeed a ghost and it is not just a figment of Hamlet s imagination. Hamlet also reveals his ability to
manipulate his behavior to achieve a desired effect; he blatantly tells Horatio How strange or odd
some er I bear myself (As I perchance hereafter shall think meet To put an antic disposition on) That
you, at such times seeing me, never shall, With arms encumbered thus, or this headshake, Or by
pronouncing of some doubtful phrase... to note That you know aught of me (Shakespeare I.V,190
201). He himself devised that he would act insane from time to time and Horatio should pay no mind.
Every time Hamlet acts insane, it is only around certain people. When he is around Polonius,
Claudius, Gertrude, Ophelia, Rosencrantz, and Guildenstern Hamlet acts insane, but when Hamlet is
around Horatio, Bernardo, Fransico, the players, and the gravediggers he acts sane and well(Munro,
Gary). The gentlemen Hamlet is sane with are trusted friends, people he knows would not inform the

William Wordsworth And The Creation Of The Romantic Movement
William Wordsworth and the Creation of the Romantic Movement William Wordsworth (7 April 1770
23 April 1850) was a English Romantic poet. Wordsworth s earliest poetry was published in 1793 in
the collections An Evening Walk and Descriptive Sketches. In 1795 he met Samuel Coleridge
(Encyclopedia.com), and produced Lyrical Ballads first published in 1978, it is largely credited as the
work that begain the English Romantic movement. In the third edition of Lyrical Ballads published in
1802 the Preface to Lyrical Ballads was added to the poems and on page 242, Wordsworth gave his
now famous poetry definition as being the spontaneous overflow of powerful feelings: it takes its
origin from emotion recollected in tranquility . In 1798 The Prelude, perhaps one of the greatest works
of English literature was first published. It is a long autobiographical poem that is a personal history of
the growth of Wordsworth s own mind. It was a constant work in progress, with Wordsworth working
on it until his death in 1850. Lyrical Ballads published in 1798 is considered to be the fist mark of the
English Romantic movement in literature. The Romantic period of literature, covered from about 1798
to 1832 and emphasizes nature, imagination, and the move from strictly scientific knowledge to the
knowledge of experience (A Guide to the Study of Literature). According to the International Journal
of English Language, Literature and Humanities, Wordsworth explained his writing style

Height Of A Marble Essay
We designed an investigation to find the answer to the question How does the height of a marble affect
the work it does on the cup? The question explores how the height has an affect on the amount of
work done on the cup and the amount of gravitational potential the marble has. We tested this by
creating an experiment in which we dropped a marble down a ramp to hit and move a cup while
testing the different heights we collected the data of how far the cup moved and used it to create a
trend and a claim that resolved the objective question. The claim, which is the general statement of
conclusion as of the result of an experiment, is the higher the height of an object the more
gravitational potential (GPE) it has and the more work that will be done on the object hit. So in this
case that higher the marble is dropped from the more ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

of 62.7 cm in movement, and 10 cm in height and an average movement of 34.8 cm. This data proves
and supports the trend as with the increase of height the average distance of movement from the cup
increases as the trend stated it would. This trend in a way was also backed by Galileo Galilei as he
found that the longer an object falls the faster it moves, with an increase of velocity being 32 ft or 9.8
m per second. As the object is moving faster that means an increase in in kinetic energy and with an
increase in kinetic energy comes an increase in the collision force or amount of work done on the
object hit. This increase in kinetic energy is also seen in the increase of mass, when the mass grows as
does the kinetic energy, where on collision they made a bigger impact with mass. So it s as a whole
not the change in mass or height, but the increase or decrease in kinetic energy caused by the change
in mass or height or any other given

Essay about Bone Dreams by Seamus Heaney
Bone Dreams by Seamus Heaney An Analysis
Bone Dreams is an obscure and difficult poem to understand. In all my searching on the internet, I
found very little to help me in my analysis of this poem and so the ideas are basically my own. I might
be wide of the mark, but for anybody struggling to understand this poem, it might at least give you
some ideas of your own. I make no apology for asking questions or for sounding vague or even
muddled in places. I hope that this essay is of help to somebody, somewhere.
The poem begins in a thoughtful mood; the voice is relaxed, White bone found/on the grazing
suggesting that the speaker is walking in the countryside when he discovers a piece of bone in the
grass. He uses tactile ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Of course, you can also write with chalk, and the act of and implements of writing are often found in
the metaphors and similes of Heaney s poetry.
In the third stanza, the speaker touches it again and it is almost as if this act of touching for a second
time sparks off a series of thoughts, tangential in quality, and as tangents do, they move freely from
one image to another, imbuing the writing with a dreamlike quality. It is almost as if the bone has him
in a powerful trance. The bone, which has become part of the landscape, has transformed into a device
for releasing thought processes. Landscape, being one of the favourite themes of Heaney, is in itself a
part of history. It is the history of Ireland and its people and its landscape that often preoccupies the
poet and, here, we see some of this preoccupation allowed flight as his mind takes off in a series of
flickering thoughts and associations.
Almost as soon as this begins to occur, his thoughts start to take a hostile turn as he envisages being
able to, wind it [the bone] in the sling of mind , and pitch it at England , the old enemy. Again there is
the idea of the bone as stone, with the mind as a catapult. This obviously draws on the myth of David
and Goliath, where the bigger and stronger giant is vanquished by a small boy who is only

The Rise Of The Roman Empire Essay
Constantine was the first Roman Emperor to convert to Christianity. He started his reign in 307 AD.
During this time the Roman Empire was still composed mainly of pagans. Although the population of
Christians was on the rise, in the beginning of the fourth century, Christians made up only 10 percent
of the population in the Roman Empire. There were approximately five million Christians in the
Roman Empire meaning that they were still the minority (Waldron). His conversion was an important
turning point not only for Christians but also for the Roman Empire as a whole. Although most
Romans still believed in Greco Roman religions, Constantine decided to become a Christian because
he knew that it would be beneficial for his role as emperor. His conversion was prompted by his desire
to end the tetrarchy structure of the Roman Empire and to become the sole ruler of the Roman Empire.
The story of Constantine s conversion was told through Eusebius of Caersera. His recount of the story
is skewed by his bias. In order to show a more holistic view of the story I will be comparing his
account to the account of another historian named Andreas Alföldi. The comparison will show that
Constantine had other motives for converting to Christianity. Constantine s decision to become a
Christian was influenced by numerous external factors. He emulated the monotheistic nature of
Christianity and used it as the foundation of his reign and used Christianity to advance his political
agenda. When

The individual states had quite a bit of power. It says how the states are in charge of supplying money to a national government treasury. (How much money you put in depends on how big or small your state is). The states had to agree upon taxes for paying for warfare as well, the national government hadn t just forced these ideas upon them. (Article VIII Section 15 18). The states had more power because the people had a say in how much money was used. The Articles of Confederation said that the colonists had more control (because the states had representatives) over the decisions that were being made. Overall, the states had to give their consent to the national government in order for the national government to enforce it. In the case of Gebser v Lago Vista Independent School District (524 U.S. 274, 1998), a female high school student that had a secret sexual affair with one of her teachers. While the court did not rule in favor of the student; however, in the delivery of the Court s opinion, the Court is aware of sexual harassment of students. Justice Sandra Day O Connor stated: The number of reported cases involving sexual harassment of students in schools confirms that harassment unfortunately is an all too common aspect of the educational experience. No one questions that a student suffers extraordinary harm when subjected to sexual harassment and abuse by a teacher, and that the teacher s conduct is reprehensible and undermines the basic purposes of the educational system. Since Detective Mills is full of pride, this makes him to fall from grace as the movie/film nears the end. The balanced scorecard can act as different roles in a company. When acting as a measurement of performance, BSC follows two steps. Firstly, it draws objectives and measures from the company s overall strategy. In other worlds, it converts the vague strategy into detailed actions. Then, by using these objectives and measures as a benchmark, the performance are evaluated from four different aspects including the financial, customer, internal business process and learning and growth perspective (Kaplan and Norton, 1996). (Hurst 5). While telling the story of the ibis, Hurst is simultaneously describing Doodle s demise. Right before Doodle dies, he is attempting to catch up to his brother in the thunderstorm. Even though Doodle tries hard to catch up to his brother, much like the bird who is attempting to fly, Doodle s physical shortcomings cause him to fail. Throughout The Odyssey, the Blind Bard makes use of many literary techniques in order to lend meaning to the poem beyond its existence as a work of historic fiction and aid his readers in the comprehension of the tale. One of these techniques is the use of motifs. A motif is a recurring theme that is used throughout the work. In The Odyssey, Homer makes use of many motifs including eating/drinking, Odysseus s anger, bathing, and disguise, just to name a few. I will agree with the non cognitivist claim that emotions are perceptions of bodily changes by showing the arguments for this position, as well as showing how non cognitivists are able to defend themselves from cognitivists, thus further supporting their position. 1. The distinction between cognitivists and non cognitivists I will start the essay by showing the distinction between cognitivist and non cognitivist positions. Arguments for a non cognitivist position on emotions I will now show how non cognitivists can support their position that emotions are perceptions of bodily changes , and how they are able to answer to critiques posed by cognitivists. There are two studies which provide empirical evidence for a non cognitivist account. 2.1 Damasio s 1994 study: emotions include internal bodily changes In his 1994 study, Damasio claims that emotions are not just general bodily changes, but they also include internal changes like changes in hormonal levels. Damasio claims that emotions happen deep inside the person s body and could occur on a very profound chemical level. For instance, when we feel happy, the feeling of happiness would be a change in hormonal levels, e.g. an increase in the levels of dopamine and serotonin. Hence, I think this study empitically supports the claim that emotions are changes in hormonal levels or other similar internal bodily changes. 2.2 Critchley s 2001 study: people with brain damage experience decreased emotional response In 2001, Critchley claimed that [p]eople with brain damage that prevents them from accurately monitoring bodily changes report a diminution of affective response. This means that, according to Critchley, when people s monitoring of their bodily changes decreases, they suffer from deacresed emotional response. This, obviously, is not the duty of a devout Christian man such as Friar Lawrence; he should never have put Juliet s life in danger by giving her this vial. One can assume that without the friar s involvement and his abuse of Juliet s faith, the results of this situation would have been very different. • 22. Stop-and-Frisk Policy The stop and frisk policy could be considered a big controversy facing New York in recent times. The whole concept behind this stopping and frisking is the police officer, with reasonable suspicion of some crime committed or about to be committed, stops a pedestrian, questions them, then if needed frisks the person. This policy started gaining public attention back in 1968 from the Terry v. Ohio case. A police officer saw the three men casing a store and he believed they were going to rob the store; this led to him stopping and frisking them. After frisking them, he found a pistol and took the weapon from the men. The men then cried foul and claimed they were unconstitutionally targeted and frisked. One of the biggest reason ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Once in a high crime area, the police use every tool they have to send the message that law and order remains in effect (Mac Donald). Knowing that police cannot take people from these high crime areas and take away their weapons may spark fear in the residents living in those areas. Stop and frisk was initially employed as a sort of crime deterrent, a way to keep crime off of the streets. Without this policy, criminals will not have any incentive to stop carrying concealed weapons; this will cause crime to rise again and citizens to live in fear. With the abolishment of stop and frisk reasonable suspicion will have a stricter definition. In the Alabama v. White case an officer got an anonymous tip and then detaining the men based on that tip. ( Stop and Frisk ). The case questioned whether that tip was reason enough to detain White. People question whether the police have enough reasonable suspicion to stop half of the people that are stopped because of the stop and frisk policy. When looking at District Report Cards all we usually hear about is student data, not realizing that there is also teacher data reported in this document. Looking over the data as a whole the schools are pretty similar in teacher data. Attendance was at between 93% and 94%, while teacher students ratio per 1000 students was lower than the state average in all schools. Teacher s average pay was within $5000.00, MCSD was the lowest at $52,000.00 and CCSD being the highest at $57,000.00. Looking at teacher and principal evaluations YCSD and MCSD had no teachers with an Effective evaluation, the highest percentage of teachers fell under Accomplished in evaluations. As for principals YCSD and MCSD principals were either Accomplished or Skilled, the majority were Skilled, in all Districts. As for CCSD, they had no one Accomplished, but they did have Developing and Effective. Finance was the final section of the report I looked at and YCSD spends the most per pupil, over $11,000 while the other two districts between $8800 and $9400 and about 65% of that are spent on classrooms. • 24. Analysis Of The Wife Of His Youth The Wife of His Youth is a short story by Charles Chesnutt about a bourgeoisie man named Mr. Ryder who is in a dilemma when the wife of his past shows up a day before he proposes to his lover, Mrs. Molly Dixon. Originally Sam Taylor, an apprentice on a plantation, Mr. Ryder runs away and settles in a light colored community Groveland where he becomes a bourgeoisie. In Groveland, Ryder joins a colored organization Blue Veins where he further advances himself in society and becomes the dean of the organization. The Blue Veins Society is created to establish and maintain correct social standards among a people whose social condition presented almost unlimited room for improvement (Chesnutt 624). As Ryder prepares for the ball and his proposal to Molly, Liza Jane appears in his life and causes him to thwart his proposal. Instead of proposing to Molly, he presents to his guests, Liza Jane, the wife of his youth. Chesnutt s The Wife of His Youth addresses race and Chesnutt s view on race, societal standards, language, and the significance of Liza Jane s appearance with racial identity and the color line. Race is an important element in The Wife of His Youth and can be prominently seen in Ryder s encounter with Liza Jane. Ryder is a mulatto man, but has long forgotten his past and has embraced the middle class societal life until Liza Jane presents him the case of her missing husband. • 25. How I Operate Within A Working Environment Introduction Self reflection is the key in gaining an outlook of a student s strengths and weaknesses. By understanding these characteristics, one can take action to improve upon them. Within this assignment I will discuss the tasks and challenges that the company Midland Heart has presented. This will involve reflecting upon such challenges to assess how I operate within a working environment. My primary role was to shadow the manager of the law team to study the ways in which she organises and communicate with her staff. In retrospect, I should have asked for more detail about certain jobs to clarify some of the terms. Further to this I had to ensure that my progress was being monitored and developed and this was maintained by semi regular meetings and informal conversations. Reflecting on my first work placement, it was rare to have such meetings which often left it difficult to understand how my skills were being developed. Macduff (2012, p. 24) supports Cooks previous point going on to suggest that settling within the second year is seen as more advantageous as there is a natural improvement in confidence. Despite this I still struggled to confidently operate as Midland Heart was such a drastic difference to Savers. This oversight could have been avoided if I had discussed the issue with either my tutor or manager to gain an insight into the correct office etiquette. Networking One of the purposes of pursuing a work placement is to meet working people to understand how they work. Brooks (2012) establishes that networking within your organisation could also help an employee with future job opportunities. It was therefore important to utilise this opportunity to gain a number of contacts in a field that I was interested in. The Mystery of the False Confession Noah White Ms. Maney American Literature 12/10/2017 In post 9/11 America, one of the most debated topics is the use of torture and unreliable interrogation techniques to extract information from suspects. Said use of torture is considered not only heinous but somewhat notorious for producing unreliable and false confessions. In Arthur Miller s The Crucible, a spotlight is shined on this topic by the situation of the Salem Witch Trials in which so called witches are forced to confess to their non existent offenses by threat of hanging. Considering these points, the question must be asked; why are false confessions so prevalent and why do they occur? One of the earliest recorded instances of a false confessions was the confession of Robert Hubert in 1666 after the Great London Fire. The London fire destroyed thousands of houses, businesses, 87 churches, and killed tens of thousands of people. And the man who confessed to starting it? A disabled man in a wheelchair who wasn t even in London on the day that it started. It is speculated that Robert Hubert, after slight suspicion on behalf of the king, was interrogated or even tortured for a confession. According to Rob Jones of History of Forensic Psychology, Despite the many obvious flaws and impossibilities in Hubert s confession, a scapegoat was needed (Jones 1). Only around the 1980 s did psychologists and other social scientists begin to truly investigate the phenomena of the false ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Bocquet appel (2002) argued that the genetic model embedded in the demic model did not show the change representing the transition and suffered from ambiguous interpretation, and the new method of paleoanthropological data from cemeteries can promise more informative and reliable signals. Small Business Pros And Cons With the competition for jobs becoming more and more difficult, instead of applying for some and crossing their fingers that someone else doesn t get the job before they do, some people are deciding to start their own small business. A small business is basically a privately owned company that is run by either a corporation, a partnership, or just a single person. Now, owning a small business comes with its pros and cons. However, the pros of owning a small business seem to outnumber the cons. So if I had the choice, I would be interested in owning a small business. Being the owner of a small business seems to have many benefits. First off, if you decide to work for somebody, then you can only get paid what they think suits you based off your experience and skills. However, if you own your own small business, you re able to make much more money because you re able to set your own price that customers would have to pay for you to provide your goods and/or services. Tying in with setting your own price points, being the owner of a business means you also get to be your own boss. This often affects a girl s self image resulting in low self esteem and insecurities. William Wordsworth And The Creation Of The Romantic Movement William Wordsworth and the Creation of the Romantic Movement William Wordsworth (7 April 1770 23 April 1850) was a English Romantic poet. Wordsworth s earliest poetry was published in 1793 in the collections An Evening Walk and Descriptive Sketches. In 1795 he met Samuel Coleridge (Encyclopedia.com), and produced Lyrical Ballads first published in 1978, it is largely credited as the work that begain the English Romantic movement. In the third edition of Lyrical Ballads published in 1802 the Preface to Lyrical Ballads was added to the poems and on page 242, Wordsworth gave his now famous poetry definition as being the spontaneous overflow of powerful feelings: it takes its origin from emotion recollected in tranquility . In 1798 The Prelude, perhaps one of the greatest works of English literature was first published. It is a long autobiographical poem that is a personal history of the growth of Wordsworth s own mind. It was a constant work in progress, with Wordsworth working on it until his death in 1850. Lyrical Ballads published in 1798 is considered to be the fist mark of the English Romantic movement in literature. The question explores how the height has an affect on the amount of work done on the cup and the amount of gravitational potential the marble has. We tested this by creating an experiment in which we dropped a marble down a ramp to hit and move a cup while testing the different heights we collected the data of how far the cup moved and used it to create a trend and a claim that resolved the objective question. The claim, which is the general statement of conclusion as of the result of an experiment, is the higher the height of an object the more gravitational potential (GPE) it has and the more work that will be done on the object hit. This trend in a way was also backed by Galileo Galilei as he found that the longer an object falls the faster it moves, with an increase of velocity being 32 ft or 9.8 m per second. As the object is moving faster that means an increase in in kinetic energy and with an increase in kinetic energy comes an increase in the collision force or amount of work done on the object hit. This increase in kinetic energy is also seen in the increase of mass, when the mass grows as does the kinetic energy, where on collision they made a bigger impact with mass. It is almost as if the bone has him in a powerful trance. The bone, which has become part of the landscape, has transformed into a device for releasing thought processes. Landscape, being one of the favourite themes of Heaney, is in itself a part of history. It is the history of Ireland and its people and its landscape that often preoccupies the poet and, here, we see some of this preoccupation allowed flight as his mind takes off in a series of flickering thoughts and associations. Almost as soon as this begins to occur, his thoughts start to take a hostile turn as he envisages being able to, wind it [the bone] in the sling of mind , and pitch it at England , the old enemy. During this time the Roman Empire was still composed mainly of pagans. Although the population of Christians was on the rise, in the beginning of the fourth century, Christians made up only 10 percent of the population in the Roman Empire. There were approximately five million Christians in the Roman Empire meaning that they were still the minority (Waldron). His conversion was an important turning point not only for Christians but also for the Roman Empire as a whole. Although most Romans still believed in Greco Roman religions, Constantine decided to become a Christian because he knew that it would be beneficial for his role as emperor. His conversion was prompted by his desire to end the tetrarchy structure of the Roman Empire and to become the sole ruler of the Roman Empire. The story of Constantine s conversion was told through Eusebius of Caersera. His recount of the story is skewed by his bias. In order to show a more holistic view of the story I will be comparing his account to the account of another historian named Andreas Alföldi. The comparison will show that Constantine had other motives for converting to Christianity. Constantine s decision to become a Christian was influenced by numerous external factors. He emulated the monotheistic nature of Christianity and used it as the foundation of his reign and used Christianity to advance his political agenda. When ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
