Lenovo- technology company
Introduction about the company
One of the largest technology company in the world, Lenovo had a humble beginning as a small
Chinese firm founded in 1984. The company showed modest growth throughout the rest of the 20th
century. It wasn t until the company s acquisition of IBM s personal computer business in 2005

and enabled it to become one of the leading technology companies in the market today.

Positive And Negative Effects Of Playing Video Games
What are the effects of playing video games?
Have you ever thought about playing video games, but your parents don t like you playing them?
Well not all video games are violent, crime ridden, based off of you killing things. Parents also
think that your not socializing with anyone while playing video games.Well There are quite a few
games out there that are based off of gamers socializing with other gamers through the game, there
are also plenty of games that are based off of strategy, reaction times, and there are some that are
proven to help the player become smarter and slow down old age.
Are video games bad for you? People say yes because they promote violence, and can kill brain
cells. Not all video games promote violence but it also depends on the players view of the game,
and them knowing what s real and what s not, and some have been proven to kill brain cells, like
some first person shooter games, but not all them. This graph represents how violent games effects
the cingulate cortex of the brain, the blue shows the decrease in brain cells, and the red shows the
increase in brain cells. People who think that video gamers are not social because they are sitting by
themselves, well the people who think that are not wrong, but they are also not right. Games have
the multiplayer option, which allows you to play video games with other people, and they can also
communicate with them through the game. As stated by http://www.bbc.co.uk/guides/zcs76fr

Aeropostale Valuation
Executive Summary Since its inception in 1987, AГ©ropostale, named after the 1920s French
airmail firm, has become one of the leaders in designing, making and retailing of teen casual
apparel and accessories. AГ©ropostale stores are primarily located in malls, shopping plazas and
large outlet centers where they can best reach their teen clientele. The company s main competitors
include other clothing brands that cater to teens. Some of these competitors that we considered for
Part I of this analysis were Gap Inc. , Abercrombie, Forever 21, Express Inc., and American Eagle
Outfitters. During our analysis of historical and current financial performance of Aeropostale, we
found out that the main triggers of revenue growth for the company... Show more content on

This is because the market will likely eventually become too saturated to sustain 3% growth on
the increasing stores base. Also the effects of the short run growth drivers will likely taper off
after some years. In the long run, the company may likely have to close more stores than it
opens to maintain its strong store productivity levels. (2) Given the short run period growth
drivers outlined, especially the impact of the economic recession, store productivity is expected
to increase. We have assumed a ceiling of ~$750 sq.ft; as only very high end boutique apparel
stores have sustained such productivity levels. From 2014, productivity is forecast to decrease
to normal industry average levels of sales of ~$550 $600/Sq.ft. (3) Average Sq.ft/store is
assumed to remain the same over the forecast period. This assumption appears reasonable since
historically the four year CAGR is 0.43%. 3 (4) The same store revenue growth rate provided in
the 10 Q for 2010 is assumed for the shortrun; as the company has proven that it can achieve that.
However, as the stores base increases in the long run, it become harder to sustain this growth rate.
Therefore we have assumed a lower long run rate; more aligned to more mature companies in the
industry. Sensitivity Analysis Upon conducting the sensitivity analysis (see Exhibit 1), we
determined the key factors driving the valuation: п‚· Discount rate п‚· Tax rate п‚·

Grafting of the Bone
Bone grafting is performed to restore bone that has been lost due to injury, trauma, or disease.
Injury may cause haematoma and bleeding from adjacent structures to occur. Haematoma is
clotting of blood that occur in any specific region such as around the broken bone ends. This event
is localized. Two ends involved are proximal and distal boneend which is the medium for osteonal
healing (ossification) to occur.
Ossification is the process of bone formation that is usually beginning at particular centers in each
prospective bone and involving the activities of species osteoblasts that segregate and deposit
inorganic bone substance about themselves (Webster, 2013). To form fracture callus, hyaline
cartilage and woven bone has to be formed first. In order this to happen, chondroblasts and
osteoblasts will arise from periosteum of each ends respectively.
After that, fracture callus will undergo the process of bone subtitution, followed with
endochondral ossification, resulting in production of lamellar bone. Final remodelling of the bone
is completed by deposition of compact bone by osteoblasts in resorption pits prepared by the
osteoclasts (Gaston and Simpson, 2007). This natural osteonal healing would be done well if and
only if these four prerequisites are active.
Firstly, cells with active osteogenic potential. Secondly, medium which has active osteoconductive
matrix. Thirdly, medium with an active osteoconductive stimulus. Lastly, a mechanically active and

Antiheroes In Watchmen
Watchmen by Alan Moore is a graphic novel, it tells the story of groups of superheroes in the 1980
s. The watchmen have a very dark tone with characters that are seen as antiheroes. The reason that
the superheroes in the watchmen are antiheroes is because they do not focus on saving people and
helping others like regular heroes do. They seem to care more about themselves than protecting the
citizens. Every superherorepresents a different attitude and are linked with each other strongly and
every one of them is a creation of fatalism or slightly, of intention. Watchmenis set to a plan where
superheroes were related to the real and current world situations, to looks like the present problems
of the worlds, politically and socially. In Watchmen,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

a Batman, yet what does he do with it? He sits in his home and leads a below average not exactly
satisfactory regular life. He s exhausting and the vast majority of his social communications are
incredibly hindered. Although being a standout amongst the most effective characters in this whole
anecdotal world, Daniel lives in his own particular anecdotal world one where he s defenseless and
barren. Avoidant Personality Disorder (APD) is portrayed by a universal example of social
limitation, sentiments of deficiency, compelling affectability to contrary assessment, and shirking
of social collaboration. APD sufferers envision themselves to be incompetent, unappealing, disliked,
undesirable or generally just not up to the difficulties of life when in actuality, they have no such

Nursing Case Study Phentermine
Introduction
In the 1990 s, phentermine was marketed in combination with fenfluramine as Fen Phen. The
combination therapy was subsequently well documented to lead to valve abnormalities resulting in
aortic valve replacements, as well as pulmonary hypertension, in patients younger than expected.
This led to its ultimate removal from the market in 1997. 1 3 However, phentermine alone was
deemed safe and continued to be sold as a weight loss aid, either on its own or in combination with,
other medications.4 There are no known reports of ischemia induced by phentermine alone or other
associated weight loss agents. Particular consideration should be given to patients who present for
surgery and anesthesia who have previously been prescribed phentermine. We describe a case of
phentermine induced myocardial infarction in a young female who was previously healthy.
Clinical Presentation ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
To date, there are only two documented case reports in otherwise healthy women who presented
with ST segment elevation myocardial infarctions (STEMI) associated with the use of phentermine
or sibutramine, another similar weight loss agent.7 However, unlike in our case, the coronary
angiographies were normal. Further investigations for the etiology of those events, including
toxicology for cocaine abuse and a hypercoagulable state, were negative. The authors concluded that
due to the absence of cardiovascular risk factors, the appetite suppressants were responsible for the
myocardial infarctions in those two patients. In our case, the only identifiable cardiovascular risk
factor for this otherwise healthy, young woman was tobacco use. Therefore, we suspect that her use
of the appetite suppressant, phentermine, may have accelerated coronary atherosclerotic disease,
thus precipitating her acute coronary

Exile In Brave New World
Exile is a subject very few touch upon. Exile is never really spoken about because once you are
alienated by those you once considered friends or family, a gaping hole opens and no one really
knows how to explain it other than just that; a hole that can only be filled with the one place on
earth you feel safe; home. When exiled, a rift opens between the individual that was cast out and
their home, and family and friends. This so called rift that opens between a person and their home
is evident in Brave New World with John s life. John is a white man who is interested in the tribal
customs of the Indians, in this novelcalled savages , which are very different and looked down
upon by the citizens of the World State society. John s... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Malpais people isolate John because he is white and this sets him apart from the Savages.
John is excluded from the rituals and tribal customs of the Malpais people. He is seen as an
outcast also because his mother is viewed as very immoral. On the Savage Reservation John tells
Bernard Marx that he feels neither welcome nor wanted, he says he is alone, always alone. (pg
91) Although John is exiled, the experience of living on the Reservation is enlightening because
he is able to step back and see how others treat one another. This helps him to develop as a
character because he comes from a life full of hardships and troubling times so he understands
what those who are treated poorly feel. John s attitude toward his mother is extremely
protective, which builds their relationship later in the novel. John s exile came at an early age
when he was born. John was born naturally rather than being hatched at the D.H.C. Natural birth
is no longer accepted in the New World so when John is born he is shipped off to live on the
Savage Reservation. Growing up on the Savage Reservation shows John just how different he is
from both the citizens of the World State and the Malpais people. His morals and beliefs are far
from the immoral values that those of the New World have, and his skin color coupled with how
his mother is viewed sets him apart from the

Common Stereotypes Of Deaf People
Deaf People have been given many different stereotypes throughout the years. Like many other
forms of stereotypes, people make inaccurate assumptions about someone in which they might
not even know. Many stereotypes given to Deaf People are brought upon by the hearing world.
Comparable to alternative stereotypes, a generous portion of the misconceptions and stereotypes
that are created about Deaf People are absurd. One stereotype that has been formed is that all
deaf people sign. This is not necessarily true because every Deaf Person, like people with hearing
abilities, are raised differently and are not provided with the same atmospheric behaviors. Some
individuals are raised with alternative ways of communication. Sign Language is generally thought
of when people discover that someone is unable to hear; therefore, it is a stereotype that is given to
the Deaf Community. Another stereotype that is given to Deaf People is that hearing aids will give
them the ability to hear. There are different levels of Deafnessand some of the levels are incapable
of being settled by the hearing aids. It is frequently thought that Deaf People are not able to speak.
Generally, the inability to speak is thought to be associated with the lack of hearing capability....

Deafness can occur at any age. It can be brought on by unfortunate occurrences. This is a
stereotype because people just assume that the Deaf Person was born with the disability and

they can t hear the music. This is a stereotype because it is thought by many people that this is a
problem that Deaf People face. There are still able to dance just like anyone else is able to. It is
also thought that they are not able to have fun with other people who are able to listen to music.
Some people with hearing deficiency are still able to feel

First of all, in the novel Stormbreaker, 14 year old Alex Rider experiences things that a normal

The Family Bond Between Bone And Her Mother Dorothy...
Identity is an essential part of the human personality; the first stages of identity development often
form the core and foundation of who a person will become. While there are multitudes of
contributing factors in the formation of identity, such as class, ethnicity, and social norms, familial
influence is the most evidenced factor in Dorothy Allison s Bastard out of Carolina. The core
identity of the main character and narrator of the book, Bone, is largely influenced through the
slow breaking of the maternal bondand the horrid abuse by Daddy Glen.
When Bastard out of Carolina first begins Bone is narrating the story; however, the book is not yet
seen from her viewpoint, but rather from varied perspectives or as a pure narrative. It is not until
chapter two that the point of view becomes Bone s permanently. The reason behind this transition
from various perspectives to Bone s is the maternal bond between Bone and her mother Anney. The
bond between mother and daughter is still at its peak in the first chapter, leading to an extreme
lack of identity in Bone. This utter lack of self prevents the viewpoint from being Bone s until the
second chapter when she first shows signs of becoming an individual.
Bone truly begins her journey towards discovering her identity the moment she starts hanging
around her uncles, and has the thought: Some days I would grind my teeth, wishing I had been
born a boy (23). Her thought may seem simple and unremarkable, but it is in fact the

The Importance Of Behavior Modification
Punishment! Growing up that was always a terrible word to hear. Let s be honest, no levelheaded
person wants to be in the hot seat. Even today, as adults, being punished can make a person

being punished can be a tool to help one succeed in life. Behavior modification is simply defined as
the alteration of behavioral patterns through the use of such learning techniques as biofeedback and
positive or negative reinforcement. Behavior modification involves both positive and negative
punishment, as well as positive and negative reinforcement. Rules, regulations, and policies hold
each of person accountable. In this paper, let s decipher how punishment can be used to shape

The Spy in the Computer Essay
The Spy in the Computer
A study of how computer games, as a modern narrative form, draw on and develop the tradition of
espionage fiction.
The spy entered the computer a long time ago. During the Second World War, both the Axis and the
Allies used the computer extensively in code breaking and allied operations. And following from
these rather rudimentary forays, espionage through the computer has reached alarming proportions
even as other technologies have continued to advance. The focus of the present paper will, however,
be on something different. It will not be on real espionage so much as on espionage in computer
games. The computer game has continually been enriched by better narrative possibilities, graphic
interfaces and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Conflict exists in both types of narrative: it essentially consists of overcoming obstacles and
moving forward to achieve a particular goal. Safety, of course, would mean the distance of the
player or the reader from the fictional reality.
The apparent similarity in even these factors, however, can be properly judged only after we have
analysed representation and interactivity. To use Crawford s definition,
A game creates a subjective and simplified representation of emotional reality. A game is not an
objective accurate representation of reality; objective accuracy is necessary only to the extent
required to support the player s fantasy. The player s fantasy is the key agent in making the game
psychologically real.
Even here, the game narrative does the same thing as the narrative of a spy thriller. But here I must
mention that Crawford s definition is slightly dated and does not take into account certain new
developments in artificial intelligence (AI) or in computer graphics and interactivity. The computer
game, now, is better able to respond to situations and has more emotional and non technical content
than it did before. Sound, and state of the art graphics (called in gaming parlance eye candy ), can
far exceed the effects created by the player s imagination.
Games, like stories, attempt to represent reality. But the essential difference between the two is that
most stories present events in

Proto Pump Inhibitors Essay
Description/Synopsis: Proton pump inhibitors (PPIs) are used for the treatment of
gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) and Laryngopharyngeal reflux (LPR) due to their
potential to inhibit gastric acid production. Unfortunately, high doses of PPIs are associated with
adverse health outcomes. The use of PPIs has been shown to affect the absorption of minerals and
vitamin like calcium, iron and vitamin B12. Not only the risk of other severe conditions like
hyperparathyroidism, diarrhea and pneumonia increases upon the long term use of PPIs but the
negative effects also extend to coronary heart disease and atherosclerotic diseases. PPIs reduce the
efficacy of the drug clopidogrel which inhibits platelet activation thereby contributing to coronary

It is further reported to induce atrophic gastritis which can ultimately lead to gastric carcinoma.
Results of study: PPIs are generally considered safe, but initial studies reported that the short
term use of this drug (8 months) was associated with adverse effects like vomiting/nausea,
dizziness, headache, and hypersensitivity reaction. On the basis of these observations, thereafter,
several studies unraveled potential long term effects of PPI therapy. The studies reveal that
upon intake of PPIs calcium absorption efficiency decreases by 41% in elderly women. It is
shown that odds ratio for hip fracture increase with the intake of PPIs over subsequent years
from 1.22 at one year, 1.41 at two years, 1.54 at three years to 1.59 at four years. A significant
difference in the value was seen between men and women and the odds ratio was analyzed to be

respectively upon the use of PPIs for 5 and 7 years, respectively. The OR for Vitamin B12

Compare And Contrast Duke University Vs Ohio State University

complete opposites. Looking at all of the unique characteristics of Duke and OhioState, I believe
that this will be a tough choice.

My Time as a Human Statue
INSIDE AND OUTSIDE
Living statues or live statues are referred to people who pose in a statue or mannequin like of
manner and appear to be realistic. Looking back to the history of live statues, it has been seen that
this form of art has existed since the medieval and Renaissance times where live statues were a
regular feature of festivities and royal entries by rulers during that era. The living statue has also
been dated to appear in a scene of the 1945 French film, Les enfants du paradis (Children of
Paradise). In the modern century, a German dancer Olga Desmond put on Evenings of Beauty
(Schönheitsabende) in which she posed in imitation of classical works of art. Apart from that,
Staticman, the well known living statue personality with four world records, is also influential in
today s live statue art where he has organized many live statue festivals and teaches master

Iran s Iran Nuclear Program And Us Israel Relationship
Introduction:
Iran s clerical regime with a highly complicated government structure is an emergent economy in
the Middle East. While the historical hostility between the countries, is more than the Iran s
nuclear program, but now the center of debates are Iran s nuclear program and US Israel
relationship. The Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) has reduced tensions between
both countries. However, Israel and Saudi Arabia, two allies of the US and adversaries of Iranhas
opposed the agreement. Iran is till considered a threat to the US national interest and security. The
risks cannot be eliminated only by military means, but it requires a comprehensive strategy. It is
important to reduce the capability of Iran and change its intention. The best possible way to do this
is supporting a gradual political transition of power from an extremist religious leader to the Iranian
nation.

Narrative Essay About A Birthday Day
What are you guys talking about? I questioned.
Mom replied, Well, me and your dad was talking about what we were going to do for your
birthday. I was six years old and I lived in Charleston, West Virginia, and my parents having my
birthday party for me. So, my mom called some of her friends and I texted some of my friends
too because I wanted to have fun with them, it was summer time. So, we started with some
friends over then a little more people started to come. After ever one was there my mom got the
chocolate cake and strawberry ice cream from the store that she had ordered and she got some
food to, she got hot dogs, hot dogs buns, two bags of family size chips, MTW Dew, Dr. Pepper,
Sprit, water, some cups, and some dip for your chips. When she got back we was playing and I
saw my mom pulled in the drive way and I helped her with the groceries and helped her out with
some things when she got home. So, when I was helping her and my aunt saw me helping my mom
getting groceries out of the car and putting them away.
My aunt told me, Go play with your friends it s your birthday. Go be a kid.
I replied, Okay, but at least can I put up the groceries for my mom, please.
Aunt declined, No! Go do what I was asked you to do, you might not have another fun birthday
party like this one.
I answered, Alright I will go but can I just get these last few groceries.
Aunt replied, Go on now before I whoop your butt.
So, I went on playing with my friends, we were

Print News Ethos Pathos Logos
Denzel Washington once said, If you don t read the newspaper you re uninformed, if you do read it
you re misinformed. The difference between print news and electronic news is astounding. Overall,
I must agree with Sam Jacob s argument stating that electronic news will eventually overrun print
news, and that print news doesn t fully state everything that everyone needs to know. Dealing with
rhetorical appeals, I feel that Sam Jacobs leans more on pathos than using logos and ethos to appeal
to the audience. He states a lot about the hurricane and how it affected people and uses that to say
that electronic print news covered more of it because you can have a multitude of news outlets
covering the same story, each saying something different, but as an overall stating the same idea. A
direct quote from his essay talks of the contribution that the citizens made saying, Armed with cell
phones and laptops, regular citizens relayed critical news updates in a rapidly developing crisis,
often before traditional journalists were even on the scene (115).... Show more content on

Sam Jacobs in his essay also tell us about the rebuttal that can be made, quoting Dan Gilmore,
that states: Even a supporter like Dan Gilmore is willing to agree that citizen journalists are
nonexperts, but he argues that they are using technology to make a profound contribution, and a
real difference (114). Dan Gilmore is telling us that people are often not the most reliable sources
to use, but they re using it to help everyone out. They re being their own writers and editors
which is what technology is helping us become. This way he is appealing to us by saying, Look,

Thomas Aquinas s Argument That God Is One
In Summa Theologiae, part I, question 11, article 3, Thomas Aquinas argues that God is one. In
order to support his argument that God is one , Aquinas gives three different proofs. The first
proof is based on God s simplicity, the second proof is based on God s perfection, and the third
proof is based on the unity of the world. In this essay, I will analyze Aquinas s argument in which
he explains that God is one based on his three proofs. I will discuss each of Aquinas s proofs and
determine their effectiveness. To begin his argument, Aquinas states that it can be shown from
three sources that God is one. The claim God is one means that there can only be one God
because God is simple, perfect, and unique. The first proof which demonstrates God is one is
based on His simplicity. The simplicity of God refers to the fact that he is not made of parts.
There is no way to break him down into categories because he is not composed or divisible by any
physical or metaphysical means (Section). Aquinas uses Socrates as an... Show more content on

All things that exist are ordered in some way. Many things are reduced into one order by one
which is better than being reduced by many. Being reduced by one creates a more meaningful
and specific ordering (Section). The best way to categorize is to appeal to a single standard.
This single standard being God, God is the one thing anything can be compared to because he is
perfect. Therefore, there is a single ordering of all things that exist. The unity of that ordering
must be because of a single cause of that order, which is God. The unity of that ordering must be
from a single cause because multiple causes would produce a unity of ordering only by accident.
Aquinas defends that the thing which reduces all into one order should only be one because this
thing is most perfect. God is the one that provides the ordering of all things, therefore God is

Most Positive Intervention
In my opinion, the most beneficial intervention for making people happier than they actually are is
the Three good things in life . In this intervention, each person needs to write three good things that
happened to him during the current day and what, in his opinion, caused these good things. I think
it s the most beneficial intervention due to the feelingit causes you and the consciousness it makes
on your mind, as well as the influence on your environment.
The first reason I think writing three good things is the most beneficial intervention is related to the
fact that most of the people tend to think only about the bad things they go through during the day.
When a person writes down the good things that went well on each day, it might

What Is The Meaning Of I Taste A Liquor Never Brewed
Emily Dickinson was born in 1830 in Massachusetts. To this day, she is considered to be one of
the most influential American poets of all time. I taste a liquor never brewed has been said to
be Emily Dickinson s best poem she ever wrote. It is said to be her best poem because of the
complexity of the poem. She wrote with an obvious rhyme scheme and expresses superb imagery
throughout her poem. This poem also shows how early editors diminished the strength of
Dickinson s verse (Forman, Robert J.). The third and sixteenth lines of her poem, I taste a liquor
never brewed has been changed multiple time by editors throughout the years to what they
believed fit better than what she had written originally lines. The first change was the third line
with The first would substitute Vats upon the Rhine for Frankfort Berries and the next change was
with the sixteenth lines with Leaning against the sun for Manzanilla come! (Dorinson, Zahava
Karl). Overall, this is definitely her greatest poem she has ever written because of the vivid
imagery and apparent rhyme scheme. Dickinson s poems often do not have a title. The only

Q9 2: What is the message? For Jan de Heem means at least in part a celebration, an invitation to
share, at least visually and thus imaginatively, in its world. The feast on the table was a feast for
the eyes. How is it portrayed symbolically in the piece and the vocabulary term used for this kind
of painting. This painting is an example of Vanitas. The vanitas tradition of still lifepainting is
specifically designed to induce in the spectator a higher order of thought. This is a reminding the
viewer of the frivolous quality or vanity of human existence. It s a still life painting with the
enjoyment of the pleasurable things in life. The overturned goblet, the half peeled lemon, the oyster
on the half shell, the timepiece beside it , all remind the viewer that the material is celebrated in the
painting in long lasting as the spiritual and may be greater importance than material wealth. The
artwork is of a huge meal, most that has been left uneaten. Southern fruit in a cold climate is of
luxury and the peeled lemon is untouched. Was a sign of unwanted consumption in the artwork.

The Social Structure Of The West
8th century and particular causes that explain why it was by far the most violent and the most
universally significant of these revolutions. The first of the general causes was the social
structure of the West. The feudal regime had been weakened step by step and had already
disappeared in parts of Europe. The increasingly numerous and prosperous elite of wealthy
commoners merchants, manufacturers, and professionals, often called the bourgeoisie aspired to
political power in those countries where it did not already possess it. The peasants, many of
whom owned land, had attained an improved standard of living and education and wanted to get
rid of the last vestiges of feudalism so as to acquire the full rights of landowners and to be free to
increase their holdings. Furthermore, from about 1730, higher standards of living had reduced the
mortality rate among adults considerably. This, together with other factors, had led to an increase
in the population of Europe unprecedented for several centuries: it doubled between 1715 and
1800. For France, which with 26 million inhabitants in 1789 was the most populated country of
Europe, the problem was most acute. Voltaire [Credit: Stock Montage/Hulton Archve/Getty

of new gold mines in Brazil had led to a general rise in prices throughout the West from about 1730,

William Faulkner s `` A Rose For Emily ``
While authors like Edgar Allen Poe and Stephen King are known for their creepy writings,
William Faulkner has achieved a level of disturbing that is hardly reached in short stories. A Rose
for Emily is a story that shows how the insanity of one woman is able to shock an entire town, even
in death.
When first reading A Rose for Emily, anyone can see how twisted Emily Grierson is. Not only
for the fact that she was sleeping in the same bed as a corpse, but because this was not the first
time that she had kept a dead body in her house. While her family does have a history of mental
instability, stating that, remembering old lady Wyatt, her great aunt, had gone completely crazy at
last (section II), she is able to out do the impossible and create an aura of mystery that surrounds her
both during life and death. After reading this story, it makes the audience question not only the
reasoning that Emily has behind not only killing Homer, but keeping his body trapped in her house
up until she met death as well. It also brings to attention how much the townsfolk actually
influenced the progression of insanity that caused Emily and those around her, so much turmoil.
For example, if the townsfolk had not used Emily as a source of entertainment and gossip, would
she have stayed the recluse? While, the townsfolk are not to blame, it makes readers wonder: what
if? Another question that I had while reading this story is, who was the narrator? The narrator,
whoever they are, is able to

The Book Of Red By Anne Carson
When people reach a certain age they start finding a place in the world that fits them the best. Kids
start associating themselves with people just like them or similar to them. However sometimes
those people are not around growing up or the kids have yet to reach their true self. In the book
Autobiography of Redby Anne Carson, the protagonist Geryon, is a unique type of person that is
trying to do just that. Geryon is a red, winged dragon; throughout the book he learns more about
himself and how to become his authentic self. While it may seem easy for the readers to identify
Geryon as a red winged mythical beast, he himself does not know who he is and works through a
hard life looking for the answer to that question. Geryon grows and reaches his authentic identity by
dealing with old flame Herakles, meeting teachers who help him along the way, and learning from
Ancash a new perspective of himself.
Growing up Geryon did not have an easy life, however he met a person that made his life worth
living, Herakles. Herakles is the new guy in the town and he and Geryon immediately become
fast friends, then something more, His voice had an edge. He liked to see Geryon happy
implying Herakles s want for Geryon to be happy (Carson 53). Geryon and Herakles have an
interesting relationship because Herakles is the first to pay close attention to Geryon, and show
him he really does care. Geryon never had that kind of affection so he goes into the relationship

Human Activities And Its Effect On The Environment
As humans, it is important that we understand what our built environment is. The built environment
is human activities and their interactions to the environment that are shaped by our social economic
activities. Furthermore, it is also imperative to know what pollutants are, pollutants are any gas,
liquid or solid substance that have been emitted into the atmosphere and are in high enough
concentrations to be considered harmful to the environment, or human, animal and plant health
(B.C. Air Quality , 2013). The concepts of spatiality, temporality, organizational structure, and
health effects and outcomes all relate to one another in a sense that they are scales or levels that
can correlate with one another to create cause and effects to the environment. Scale can be defined
as the spatial, temporal, quantitative, or analytical dimensions used to measure and study any
phenomenon, and levels as the units of analysis that are located at different positions on a scale
(Cash, 2006). Similar to spatial scale that can be thought of as divisible into different levels,
temporal scale can be thought of as divisible into different time frames related to rates, durations, or
frequencies (Cash, 2006). Studies have found that exposure to pollutants such as nitrogen dioxides
(NO2), sulfur dioxides (SO2), ozone, and particulate matter (PM) has been associated with
increased mortality and hospital admissions due to health outcomes such as respiratory and

Music can also be a differentiating factor for social and economic classes. In lecture twelve (Roma

influenced this separation. The types of instruments used, or lack of, tell of the people s standing in
the social and economic ladders. For instance, romungre music is professional, urban, and was

The Complex Nature Of Equiano s Identity Crisis

Option Three
The complex nature of Equiano s identity crisis
Equiano presents himself as an African, who is embattled with a myriad of issues enroute to a
foreign land. He starts off as a normal African boy that takes pride in the family unit. His life
changes as he is exposed to a life of slavery that makes him wonder just how far he would go to
regain his freedom. Equaino is celebrated due to his anti slave trade achievements, but rather
criticized for a lack of authenticity in his plight to free the world of slavery. He begins his
narrative with a brief insight into the person he was before being captured. We discover a
identity that is in the norm for African society. He presents himself as an African from Essaka,
which is in Eboe, and what is currently referred to as Nigeria. Equiano was born in 1745 and
was a member of the royal family. Moreover, he presents himself as a common African boy but
his family and origins state otherwise. Equiano is engaged in a family that from the onset
practiced its form of slavery through ownership of servants. His father gives the audience a sense
of hypocrisy on Equiano s part when he rebukes slave trade. The identity of the character Equiano is
immediately casted into doubt (Olaudah, 111). In retrospect, the African boy understood the
dangers of abduction and was protected and aware of the incessant threat of capture. The fact
remains that Equiano had his roots entrenched in a

aboard the ship, I was able to to study the guides. There was a lot of useful information in all of
them. I believe I gained a great deal from How to Go to America Alone.
We stopped in Honolulu to pick up more travelers. Many were fellow Japanese who were leaving
Hawaii in search of higher paying jobs on the mainland. I must say, many of their stories did not
quite represent those that had encouraged me to take this journey. Life on Hawaii must be very
much different than on the mainland. I was told that the companies and plantations had effectively
became powerful unchecked governing forces. Abuse of foreign labor is common. I must be
positive and understand that the situation in the United States will not be the same. Hopefully, I will
be able to succeed in my studies and make a great deal of money. It is ever important that I send
my remaining earnings back home to support the family.
I have changed as a person adjusting to life in America. Finding good work has been an arduous
task. Thankfully, I have had the support of our ken. Kenjinkai has been important in my first few
years in the United States. Imagine coming this country alone without anyone familiar to fall back
upon.

Analysis Of The Film Whiplash
Stage 1 English
Responding To Texts: Film Study
How do the cinematic techniques (mise en scГЁne, cinematography, editing, and sound design)
work together in the selected scene or sequence to develop the film s central characters and themes?
Damien Chazelle s Whiplash (2014) follows Andrew Neiman, a fame driven drummerjoins the
studio band at a prestigious music school, Shaffer Conservatory where he is acquainted with the
manipulative and vigorous Terence Fletcher who pushes him to his limits. The salient themes of
volatile and manipulative student teacher relationship, overcoming adversity and relentless pursuit
of perfection are accentuated through cinematic techniques such as mise en scГЁne,
cinematography, and sound design and editing. The scene which exemplifies these themes are
when Andrew Neiman is competing against two drummers, Ryan Connolly and Carl Tanner, to
earn the part of becoming the main drummer of a jazz composition called Caravan (1936)
composed by Duke Ellington.
Chazelle s usage of mise en scГЁne is used to demonstrate the important theme of volatile and
manipulative student teacher relationship. The dimly lit room is representative of Fletchers
personality, throughout the film Fletcher is portrayed as a manipulative teacher who would go out to
any means to get what he desires. The costumes used in this scene are vital to express the volatile
relationship between Fletcher and his students. During this scene, Connolly is the only drummer to

Analysis Of Henry David Thoreau s Walden
Henry David Thoreau will go down in history as one of the greatest influential writer s and
philosophers in American history. Not only was he a smart and intelligent man, but he had such
wisdom and determination when he looked at every aspect of life. Thoreau was just an ordinary
individual from Concord, which helped the readers relate to him on a more personal level when
they read his work. In Thoreau s Walden, he wanted the reader to understand that you should live
life more simple, connect with nature so you can connect with God, and live your life working
hard so you do not have to solely rely on anyone.
Thoreau moved and lived in the woods for two years to simply live simpler. Before Thoreau
moved into the woods, he had been living in Concord, Massachusetts. Young Thoreau, then in his
late 20s, had tried to live as others lived as a schoolmaster, a private tutor, a surveyor, a gardener,
a farmer, a house painter, a carpenter, a mason, a day laborer, a pencil maker, a glass paper
maker, a writer, and sometimes a poetaster, by his own reckoning but had found those careers
wanting. The mass of men, he wrote, lead lives of quiet desperation. He was determined not to
be one of them. (Christian Science Monitor) Thoreau wanted to find his place in the world, he
wanted to find his purpose. Thoreau once said, I went to the woods because I wished to live life
deliberately, to front only the essential facts of life, and see if I could not learn what it had to teach,

Melvin Udall
As Good as It Gets Melvin Udall is a successful author who lives the life of a recluse. He is a
misogynistic, homophobic, anti Semitic racist with an intense dislike of people and dogs. All
the neighbors in his Greenwich Village apartment building avoid him. His psychotherapist
diagnosed Melvin with OCD (obsessive compulsive disorder) because he avoids stepping on
sidewalk cracks and touching other people, wears gloves all the time, wipes off door handles,
eats at the same restaurant every day, sits at the same table, insists on the same waitress, Carol,
and always orders the same meal. Suddenly, Melvin s life takes a turn. A group of robbers beats

At one point, Carol and Melvin have a date at a fancy restaurant, only to discover that Melvin
needs to purchase a coat and tie to meet the dress code. Challenged by these demands on him, he
insults Carol, saying that she is wearing a housedress. She gets furious and demands a sincere
compliment, or she will leave the restaurant. With anguish and many disclaimers, Melvin finally
states that because of his affection for her, he decided to take medication for his OCD. When
Carol wants to know why that is a compliment, he says that being with her makes him want to be a
better man. When Carol responds very positively and affectionately, he tries to take it back by
saying that he overshot the mark . According to the DSM IV TR, people with OCD suffer from
recurrent obsessions and/or compulsions. Obsessions, defined as persistent ideas, thoughts,
impulses, or images that are experienced as intrusive and inappropriate and that cause marked
anxiety or distress (Criterion A.1), which are difficult to dismiss, despite their disturbing nature.
These experiences are more intrusive than excessive worries about real life problems, and they are
unlikely related to these kinds of problems. (Criterion A.2). Persons who suffer from OCD try to
ignore, suppress or neutralize their obsessions with some other thought or action (Criterion A.3)
and recognize that they are a product of their own mind (Criterion A.4). Melvin Udall has repetitive

Salem Witch Hysteria
The Hysteria By Madelyn Demmons 1/12/17
The Salem witch trials began in the year of 1692, after a group of young girls in the village,
Massachusetts, claimed to be possessed by the devil. These young girls incriminated several local
women of witchcraft. As the wave of hysteria spread throughout Salem, a special court got together
to hear the cases. People who believed in supernatural powers or the devils practice of giving
certain people the power to harm others was considered witchery. Medical examinations found no
evidence of physical illness or ailment. Soon after the first two girls showed symptoms,
supplementary women began to show the symptoms too. I believe that the hysteria could have

The people that were apprehended were all different than the townspeople. The accusers targeted
weak people and social outcast. The accusers all mostly lived near each other in the middle of town,
and the people being accused lived on the outskirts of the town. This could have caused the hysteria
because the accusers thought that people different than them must be witches.
More than 200 people were accused of practicing witchcraft, the devil s magic and about 20 people
were executed. The 20 people that died were either stoned, or hanged.
One day, the colony accepted that the trials were a misjudgement and reimbursed the families that
were convicted. The colony finally realized that the witch trials were a joke due to the evidence
that was declared unreasonable, and that was the beginning of the end of the Salem Witch trials that
had taken place in Massachusetts. Accordingly, the hysteria could have started for many different
reasons, and the three examples above are why I think the hysteria could ve began between

Similarities And Differences Between Edgar Allan Poe And...
It is well known that different writers have different writing styles. Even when writing about the
same chair at the same time, Edgar Allen Poe and Jack London would describe it in very
different manners. This all boils down to the stylistic and rhetorical differences in the two men s
writing styles. This situation is the same as the two given passages. Two different authors both
visited the Galapagos Islands during the nineteenth century and wrote about their experiences.
As one would have guessed, the two passages do not say the same thing in the same way. These
two authors have very different essays due to the differences in their style and used rhetoric.
Passage one is rather short compared to the second passage. This passage also seems to have
been written by a professional or perhaps a scientist s assistant. This passage focuses more heavily
upon vegetation and geography rather than the setting and animals. This author talks about the sun
burnt brushwood, black basaltic lava, and wretched looking little weeds. Not only this, but the
author talks about how he diligently tried to collect as many plants as possible. Through all of his
examinations of the flora, this makes him seem as though he is on the island for a scientific
research operation rather than to simply look around him. Also, to further support the idea of the
author being an apprentice, he also uses a scientific name for one of the plants he saw:
Euphorbiaceae. He labels this as a

Short Term Crisis Management Strategies
As a state, California has responded to the drought through several short term crisis management
strategies. The first of these being pumping of groundwater, although an effective solution in the
short term (offsetting almost 70% of the water shortage and reducing crop fallow and job losses),
these reserves will become ever more expensive to extract and will eventually run out. Under
irrigating land, idling of land and shifting of crops go together as strategies that will save the
proprietor water but will also decrease output and consequently operating profits. Another is the use
of water conservation technologies such as shade balls or permeable tarmac, aligning with Boserup
s 1965 theory that Necessity is the mother of all invention ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

An article written by Ostrander (2015) gives an interesting take on longer term and more
sustainable strategies for L.A in response to the Californian drought, all of which revolve around
changing the way the city deals with its water. The article states that the concreting of channels and
river beds and an increase in urban impermeable surfaces have meant that less water can filter into
the ground, rather it either floods or drains straight into the ocean. In changing the rhetoric of storm
water being a nuisance and restoring waterways to allow them to hold, slow and filter water would
fix many problems at once. Combining this with technology such as permeable tarmac would allow
groundwater to replenish faster when the rains arrive. Although these solutions are not cheap, they
are said to be far cheaper than desalinization. In addition, It is estimated that through strategies such
as these, L.A could reduce its water import from 85% to just over half.
An article by Hudson (2015) gives recommendations for combatting drought with far longer term
orientation, all of which, similar to Ostrander, revolve around the management of water. The article
argues that restricting people s water use is a temporary measure. In the long term climate change
and supply will dictate that California needs to change the way it manages water, particularly

Social Class In The Outsiders
The Outsiders: Your Social Class Should Not Make You Judge Others Criss Jami once stated,
When I look at a person, I see a person not a rank, not a class, not a title. In The Outsiders by S.E
Hinton, Ponyboy Curtis and his gang are Greaser s, meaning they have little to no money. As the
text progresses, Ponyboy is getting judged because of his social class. Ponyboy is having a hard
time fitting in with the people around him. One theme evident in The Outsiders is, you should
never think you are better than anyone because of your social class. In the beginning of the novel,
the Soc s think they are better than the Greaser s because of their social class. In chapter 3 of the
text, Ponyboy states, Soc s had so much spare time and money they jumped us and each other for
kicks, had beer blasts and river bottom parties because they did not know what else to do ... Show

In chapter 8 of the text, Ponyboy states, He mostly came to rub it in about the rumble (105).
When Johnny killed Bob everyone wanted to fight Johnny. Not to mention, the Greaser s stick
together so the Soc s wanted to settle everything in a rumble. The rumble is the warfare between
different social classes. Whether they fight or not the groups will still judge each other and be
in different social classes. In the latter part of the novel, the Soc s and the Greaser s know they
shouldn t judge but they still do. In chapter 9, Ponyboy states, They used to be buddies, I
thought, they used to be friends, and now they hate each other because one has to work for a
living and the other comes from the West Side (122). Darry and the Soc, were not friends
anymore because of their social class. In addition, Soc s let the money choose whom they hang
around as well who they respect. Equally important, the Soc s never treat anyone equally besides
the other Soc s. All in all money can really change who you hang

Alcohol Abuse And Alcoholism Abuse
The alcohol abuse definition is similar to alcoholism in that in both cases alcohol is causing harm
to the drinker s life and those around them. The difference is that those who abuse alcohol, but are
not yet alcoholics, typically can put some limitations on their drinking and they have not yet
become physically addicted to alcohol. The key to the alcohol abusedefinition is not in the amount
of alcohol consumed but on how it affects an individual. Alcohol abuse is a psychiatric diagnosis
in which there is recurring harmful use of ethanol despite its negative consequence. In 2013 it was
reclassified as alcohol use disorder along with alcohol dependence. There are two types of alcohol
abuse, those who have anti social and pleasure... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Get hooked on drinking to stave off withdrawal symptoms. Also, younger family members tend to
mimic the alcohol use patterns of their parents, siblings, and other family members. Peers also
influence drinking behavior. Some studies shows that regardless of family history of alcoholism, a
lack of parental monitoring, severe and recurrent family conflict and poor parent child relationships
can contribute to alcohol abuse in adolescents. Children with conduct skills as well as those with
little connection to parents, other family members, or school may be at an increased risk for
alcohol abuse.
Before you seek treatment the first and most important part of the process is that of admitting that
you have a problem. Once you have done so then the next step is help and support. Beating an
alcohol addiction is a long and painful process. It requires much more than sheer willpower: it
requires you to make changes to every aspect of your life and some of that can be more difficult
to do than others. But help and support is available so you don t need to do this on your own.
Treatments for alcohol addiction are quite varied because there are multiple perspectives for the
condition itself. Those who approach alcoholism as a medical condition or disease recommend
differing treatments than, for instance, those who approach the condition as one of social choice.
Most treatments focus on helping people discontinue their alcohol intake,

The number one cause of death in U.S. children are motor vehicle accidents, but many of these
can be prevented. Buckling children into car seats, booster seats and seat belts helps reduce the
risk of injury while in a motorized vehicle. According to the CDC, car seats reduces the risk of
deaths to infants by 71%, and toddlers by 54% . For the nation as the whole the average car seat
usage is around 80% but for the Navajo nation it is much lower at around 35%. This shows the
basic lack of education the Navajo people are receiving on the matter. Car Seat usage is a very
serious public health issue on the Navajo nation. Some areas where more education has been

A Student Board Representative For My School District
Fifteen years ago, I served as the student board representative for my school district. All I can
really remember is being entertained by emotional parent complaints and listening to jargon
filled presentations. Upon receiving my first pink slip from that same district seven years later,
I spoke at a school board meeting for the first time. Three years later, I was motivated by another
pink slip to speak in front of a school board this time as a teacher for my current school district,
San Diego County Office of Education (SDCOE) Juvenile Court and Community Schools
(JCCS). Since that first pink slip scare with JCCS, I have been a regular attendee at SDCOE
board meetings. I try my best to pay attention and even take notes when JCCS is on the agenda. I
have spoken on behalf of my students and coworkers and even helped to introduce my site s
student board representative. However, I honestly spend most of the meetings bored by detailed
presentations about programs far removed from my classroom or confused by topics that I do not
completely understand. However, I keep attending. During the past few weeks, I attended the San
Diego Unified School District (SDUSD) June 2 meeting and the SDCOE June 10 meeting. After
observing a board meeting in a traditional school district for the first time in ten years, I was
reminded of the strong parent and community voice that is often shared during board meetings in
local districts. On the other hand county board meetings are

MEMORANDUM
November 15, 2013
TO: Sarah McDougal, Manager of Disbursements at Ramsville
FROM:Team 5
SUBJECT:Process Improvements for Ramsville
______________________________________________________________________________
Team 5 will be analyzing and providing recommendations on how to improve the issue of overdue
payments to suppliers at Ramsville. After walking the process, creating a current value stream
analyzing data, Team 5 has suggestions on how to increase efficiency by eliminating muda that will
improve customer satisfaction and supplier relationships.
ANALYSIS
Team 5 identified the key issues by creating a Current Value Stream Mapping(Table 1, Page 3).
Ramsville s pay now invoices have a total lead time of 196,200 ... Show more content on

The next recommendation Team 5 has is to increase the processing time at the PFR Check to 600
seconds. Team 5 believes this will increase the accuracy of invoice checking because an additional
four minutes will be dedicated to the task and employees will have more time allotted to double
check the accuracy of the invoices being passed to the next activity. This will assure the practice of
quality at the source is being used so that incorrect information is not being passed onto subsequent
processes.
Another recommendation is to eliminate the batch process so that payments can get to the
suppliers at a faster rate and decrease the number of supplier complaints, summarized on Table 7
(Page 7). This will eliminate the muda of the extra time needed to un batch the invoices so that
information can be relayed to suppliers quicker.
Team 5 also recommends implementing an automated process system that automatically scans and
enters invoices into the payment processing software. With the implementation of this software,
Pay Later Invoices and Pay Now Invoices can be eliminated from the process. Additionally, Team
5 suggests moving the two employees from Pay Now and Pay Later Invoices to the Final Check
activity. This will eliminate the bottleneck of over utilization at the Final Check because the
number of employees increases to three. Although the utilization decreases by over 30%, it leaves
room for variability and decreases the stress put

Rate of Juvenile Offenses and the Juvenile Justice System
Palm Beach County, Fla. On May 26, 2000, 13 year old Nathaniel Brazill shot his teacher, Barry
Grunow, with a .25 caliber handgun in school. Palm Beach County prosecutors tried Brazill as
an adult for first degree murder. The jury found Brazill guilty of second degree murder and the
judge sentenced him to 28 years in an adult facility. After his release, Brazill will face two years
of house arrest and five years of probation. (Klug) Does this sentence appear too severe, or
perhaps too tolerant? Without understanding all of the specifics involved in the case, it may be
harder to conclude what would be the best thing to do with 13 year old Brazill. What exact details
would an individual need to know in order to judge him... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One of the main factors that cause the complexity is that with each approach come certain
doctrines on the differences between juveniles and adults; but more importantly, how these
dissimilarities should affect legal policies. It will be up to voters, legislators, and groups to
conclude what steps we will take to curb the growing tendency of juvenile misdeed and
aggression. Imagining juvenile delinquents as our own younger siblings, or possibly our own
children gone astray will help us to make the strong conclusions engaged in treating juvenile
delinquents. As school students, we are the next generation of voters, legislators, and public
leaders. In alignment for us to make the best conclusions for troubled adolescents we must be
acquainted of the numerous ways we can go about handling juvenile delinquents. Each method
of treatment is quite perplexed so we must take care to realize the issues to the fullest possible
span. To double check that juvenile delinquents are being treated fairly, we must make our
conclusions with as much concern for their well being as we can, as well as keeping in mind the
best concerns of humanity. As voters, we can start to form policies in the ways we see fit for
battling juvenile offenses and aggression. Perhaps some of our own preferred procedures for
treating young kids are echoed in the current outlooks of the public in the direction of

Industrial Emissions And Its Effects On Human Health And...
1.Introduction Industrial emissions are a major sources of air pollution, and thus responsible for
numerous deleterious effects on a human health and environment caused by photochemical smog,
acid rain, and resultant degradation of ecosystems and bio diversity. Ontario s SO2 emissions are
predominantly around 65 percent from industrial sources including non ferrous smelting. The major
environmental concerns associated with smelting are energy consumption, releases of sulphur
dioxide and particulate matter to air, and the generation of residues, such as slag and captured dust
(Environment Canada, 2006). In this paper, the policies and regulation that were implemented by
the United Nations Convention to reduce the amount of SO2... Show more content on

2.SO2 Pollution Effects around Sudbury Today the Sudbury region is known for mining and
production of nickel, as it is located just off the Canadian Shield region that holds a vast nickel
reserves. Throughout the early 20th century, many mining and smelting venture such as Inco and
Falconbridge were created to take advantage of the growing nickel industry. Both are these
companies used a smelting process called heap roasting method to extract the nickel from the
ore. However, Smelting process is the one main source of the sulphur fumes which caused acid
rain (Buhr, 1998). This results from nickel production itself, where there is 8 more times of
sulphur oxides particulate in the ore than actual nickel (Crawford, 1994). At the beginning of this
century, the amount of SO2 released into the atmosphere weren t much of a concern since the
nickel output was considerably small. It later became a problem as the demand for nickel
production was gradually increasing (Crawford, 1994). Up till the 1970 s, the Smelting industry in
the Sudbury region was one of the largest metal producing complexes in the world, which meant
that it also release a massive amount of Sulphur and metal particulates into the environment. By the
1960 s, the smelting site in Sudbury was one of the largest point source of SO2 emission releasing
thousands of tons of metal particulates from the smelters as graph 1 displays. (Keller, Heneberry
Gunn, 1999). As more ground level of sulphur dioxide emission

Effects Of Monster In Night By Elie Wiesel
How do monsters affect people? Monsters can affect people in many different ways. Monsters
can come in many different shapes, sizes and thoughts. Some monsters can be other people, but
some can be the thought of something awful happening or losing faith. In the book Night by Elie
Wiesel, him and his family are being targeted by the Nazis because they are Jewish. They are
taken to concentration camps and split apart from each other. In the book Pure by Julianna
Baggott, Pressia seems to have little hope that she will survive through her 16th birthday and
escape OSR. Later in the book, Pressia gets captured by OSR, but during the capture she meets her

The German soldiers also known as Nazi, raided towns were the Jews were living and started
deporting them to concentration camps. They were crammed into cattle cars and separated
from family. Elie says, What s more, if I felt anger at that moment it was not directed at the Kapo
but at my father. Why couldn t he have avoided Idek s wrath? That was what life in
concentration camp had made of me... (54). Basically, Elie is mad at his father because he had
to fight with Idek, knowing how powerful he was. This proves the topic sentence because Elie s
father feared what would happen if he did not stand up for himself. Elie says, I woke from my
apathy only when two men approached my father. I threw myself on his body. He wa cold. I
slapped him. I rubbed his hands, crying: Father! Father! Wake up. They re going to throw you
outside... (99). Thus, Elie feared what would happen if he was left alone and his father was
dead. It supports what is stated in my topic sentence because the fear was being too weak to
carry on and being killed by the Nazi soldiers. Elie overcame the monsters because no matter how
hard life got in the concentration camp he never stopped fighting. Elie was very successful
because he made it out alive, even when he had foot problems, he never let anything hold him
back. In the book Night, there is fear of what might happen, but in the end no one gave up until
they were too sick to carry

  • 4. Positive And Negative Effects Of Playing Video Games What are the effects of playing video games? Have you ever thought about playing video games, but your parents don t like you playing them? Well not all video games are violent, crime ridden, based off of you killing things. Parents also think that your not socializing with anyone while playing video games.Well There are quite a few games out there that are based off of gamers socializing with other gamers through the game, there are also plenty of games that are based off of strategy, reaction times, and there are some that are proven to help the player become smarter and slow down old age. Are video games bad for you? People say yes because they promote violence, and can kill brain cells. Not all video games promote violence but it also depends on the players view of the game, and them knowing what s real and what s not, and some have been proven to kill brain cells, like some first person shooter games, but not all them. This graph represents how violent games effects the cingulate cortex of the brain, the blue shows the decrease in brain cells, and the red shows the increase in brain cells. People who think that video gamers are not social because they are sitting by themselves, well the people who think that are not wrong, but they are also not right. Games have the multiplayer option, which allows you to play video games with other people, and they can also communicate with them through the game. • 5. Aeropostale Valuation Executive Summary Since its inception in 1987, AГ©ropostale, named after the 1920s French airmail firm, has become one of the leaders in designing, making and retailing of teen casual apparel and accessories. AГ©ropostale stores are primarily located in malls, shopping plazas and large outlet centers where they can best reach their teen clientele. The company s main competitors include other clothing brands that cater to teens. Some of these competitors that we considered for Part I of this analysis were Gap Inc. , Abercrombie, Forever 21, Express Inc., and American Eagle Outfitters. During our analysis of historical and current financial performance of Aeropostale, we found out that the main triggers of revenue growth for the company... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This is because the market will likely eventually become too saturated to sustain 3% growth on the increasing stores base. Also the effects of the short run growth drivers will likely taper off after some years. In the long run, the company may likely have to close more stores than it opens to maintain its strong store productivity levels. (2) Given the short run period growth drivers outlined, especially the impact of the economic recession, store productivity is expected to increase. We have assumed a ceiling of ~$750 sq.ft; as only very high end boutique apparel stores have sustained such productivity levels. From 2014, productivity is forecast to decrease to normal industry average levels of sales of ~$550 $600/Sq.ft. (3) Average Sq.ft/store is assumed to remain the same over the forecast period. This assumption appears reasonable since historically the four year CAGR is 0.43%. 3 (4) The same store revenue growth rate provided in the 10 Q for 2010 is assumed for the shortrun; as the company has proven that it can achieve that. However, as the stores base increases in the long run, it become harder to sustain this growth rate. Therefore we have assumed a lower long run rate; more aligned to more mature companies in the industry. Sensitivity Analysis Upon conducting the sensitivity analysis (see Exhibit 1), we determined the key factors driving the valuation: п‚· Discount rate п‚· Tax rate п‚· ... • 6. Grafting of the Bone Bone grafting is performed to restore bone that has been lost due to injury, trauma, or disease. Injury may cause haematoma and bleeding from adjacent structures to occur. Haematoma is clotting of blood that occur in any specific region such as around the broken bone ends. This event is localized. Two ends involved are proximal and distal boneend which is the medium for osteonal healing (ossification) to occur. Ossification is the process of bone formation that is usually beginning at particular centers in each prospective bone and involving the activities of species osteoblasts that segregate and deposit inorganic bone substance about themselves (Webster, 2013). To form fracture callus, hyaline cartilage and woven bone has to be formed first. In order this to happen, chondroblasts and osteoblasts will arise from periosteum of each ends respectively. After that, fracture callus will undergo the process of bone subtitution, followed with endochondral ossification, resulting in production of lamellar bone. Final remodelling of the bone is completed by deposition of compact bone by osteoblasts in resorption pits prepared by the osteoclasts (Gaston and Simpson, 2007). This natural osteonal healing would be done well if and only if these four prerequisites are active. Firstly, cells with active osteogenic potential. Secondly, medium which has active osteoconductive matrix. Thirdly, medium with an active osteoconductive stimulus. Lastly, a mechanically active and stable ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Antiheroes In Watchmen Watchmen by Alan Moore is a graphic novel, it tells the story of groups of superheroes in the 1980 s. The watchmen have a very dark tone with characters that are seen as antiheroes. The reason that the superheroes in the watchmen are antiheroes is because they do not focus on saving people and helping others like regular heroes do. They seem to care more about themselves than protecting the citizens. Every superherorepresents a different attitude and are linked with each other strongly and every one of them is a creation of fatalism or slightly, of intention. Watchmenis set to a plan where superheroes were related to the real and current world situations, to looks like the present problems of the worlds, politically and socially. In Watchmen,... Although being a standout amongst the most effective characters in this whole anecdotal world, Daniel lives in his own particular anecdotal world one where he s defenseless and barren. Avoidant Personality Disorder (APD) is portrayed by a universal example of social limitation, sentiments of deficiency, compelling affectability to contrary assessment, and shirking of social collaboration. APD sufferers envision themselves to be incompetent, unappealing, disliked, undesirable or generally just not up to the difficulties of life when in actuality, they have no such shortfalls. In truth, APD sufferers invest so much energy fixating on their envisioned poor execution that they re frequently fit for tremendous exhibitions in every one of the enclosures they envision themselves as low working in once they move beyond their stage dread. • 8. Nursing Case Study Phentermine Introduction In the 1990 s, phentermine was marketed in combination with fenfluramine as Fen Phen. The combination therapy was subsequently well documented to lead to valve abnormalities resulting in aortic valve replacements, as well as pulmonary hypertension, in patients younger than expected. This led to its ultimate removal from the market in 1997. 1 3 However, phentermine alone was deemed safe and continued to be sold as a weight loss aid, either on its own or in combination with, other medications.4 There are no known reports of ischemia induced by phentermine alone or other associated weight loss agents. Particular consideration should be given to patients who present for surgery and anesthesia who have previously been prescribed phentermine. We describe a case of phentermine induced myocardial infarction in a young female who was previously healthy. Clinical Presentation ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... To date, there are only two documented case reports in otherwise healthy women who presented with ST segment elevation myocardial infarctions (STEMI) associated with the use of phentermine or sibutramine, another similar weight loss agent.7 However, unlike in our case, the coronary angiographies were normal. Further investigations for the etiology of those events, including toxicology for cocaine abuse and a hypercoagulable state, were negative. The authors concluded that due to the absence of cardiovascular risk factors, the appetite suppressants were responsible for the myocardial infarctions in those two patients. In our case, the only identifiable cardiovascular risk factor for this otherwise healthy, young woman was tobacco use. Therefore, we suspect that her use of the appetite suppressant, phentermine, may have accelerated coronary atherosclerotic disease, thus precipitating her acute coronary ... Exile is never really spoken about because once you are alienated by those you once considered friends or family, a gaping hole opens and no one really knows how to explain it other than just that; a hole that can only be filled with the one place on earth you feel safe; home. When exiled, a rift opens between the individual that was cast out and their home, and family and friends. This so called rift that opens between a person and their home is evident in Brave New World with John s life. John is a white man who is interested in the tribal customs of the Indians, in this novelcalled savages , which are very different and looked down upon by the citizens of the World State society. John is excluded from the rituals and tribal customs of the Malpais people. He is seen as an outcast also because his mother is viewed as very immoral. On the Savage Reservation John tells Bernard Marx that he feels neither welcome nor wanted, he says he is alone, always alone. (pg 91) Although John is exiled, the experience of living on the Reservation is enlightening because he is able to step back and see how others treat one another. This helps him to develop as a character because he comes from a life full of hardships and troubling times so he understands what those who are treated poorly feel. John s attitude toward his mother is extremely protective, which builds their relationship later in the novel. John s exile came at an early age when he was born. John was born naturally rather than being hatched at the D.H.C. Natural birth is no longer accepted in the New World so when John is born he is shipped off to live on the Savage Reservation. Growing up on the Savage Reservation shows John just how different he is from both the citizens of the World State and the Malpais people. His morals and beliefs are far from the immoral values that those of the New World have, and his skin color coupled with how his mother is viewed sets him apart from the ... • 11. Common Stereotypes Of Deaf People Deaf People have been given many different stereotypes throughout the years. Like many other forms of stereotypes, people make inaccurate assumptions about someone in which they might not even know. Many stereotypes given to Deaf People are brought upon by the hearing world. Comparable to alternative stereotypes, a generous portion of the misconceptions and stereotypes that are created about Deaf People are absurd. One stereotype that has been formed is that all deaf people sign. This is not necessarily true because every Deaf Person, like people with hearing abilities, are raised differently and are not provided with the same atmospheric behaviors. Some individuals are raised with alternative ways of communication. Sign Language is generally thought of when people discover that someone is unable to hear; therefore, it is a stereotype that is given to the Deaf Community. Another stereotype that is given to Deaf People is that hearing aids will give them the ability to hear. The details told to Alex about his uncle s death were soon to be discovered as lies when he saw Ian s car in the junkyard with windows completely shattered as if it was shot at. He was told that Ian died in a car accident because he wasn t wearing a seat belt, however this was now confirmed as a lie. • 13. The Family Bond Between Bone And Her Mother Dorothy... Identity is an essential part of the human personality; the first stages of identity development often form the core and foundation of who a person will become. While there are multitudes of contributing factors in the formation of identity, such as class, ethnicity, and social norms, familial influence is the most evidenced factor in Dorothy Allison s Bastard out of Carolina. The core identity of the main character and narrator of the book, Bone, is largely influenced through the slow breaking of the maternal bondand the horrid abuse by Daddy Glen. When Bastard out of Carolina first begins Bone is narrating the story; however, the book is not yet seen from her viewpoint, but rather from varied perspectives or as a pure narrative. It is not until chapter two that the point of view becomes Bone s permanently. The reason behind this transition from various perspectives to Bone s is the maternal bond between Bone and her mother Anney. The bond between mother and daughter is still at its peak in the first chapter, leading to an extreme lack of identity in Bone. This utter lack of self prevents the viewpoint from being Bone s until the second chapter when she first shows signs of becoming an individual. Bone truly begins her journey towards discovering her identity the moment she starts hanging around her uncles, and has the thought: Some days I would grind my teeth, wishing I had been born a boy (23). Her thought may seem simple and unremarkable, but it is in fact the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Even today, as adults, being punished can make a person cringe. However, as individuals grow up and mature into adulthood, it is easier to comprehend that being punished can be a tool to help one succeed in life. Behavior modification is simply defined as the alteration of behavioral patterns through the use of such learning techniques as biofeedback and positive or negative reinforcement. The spy entered the computer a long time ago. During the Second World War, both the Axis and the Allies used the computer extensively in code breaking and allied operations. And following from these rather rudimentary forays, espionage through the computer has reached alarming proportions even as other technologies have continued to advance. The focus of the present paper will, however, be on something different. It will not be on real espionage so much as on espionage in computer games. The computer game has continually been enriched by better narrative possibilities, graphic interfaces and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Conflict exists in both types of narrative: it essentially consists of overcoming obstacles and moving forward to achieve a particular goal. Safety, of course, would mean the distance of the player or the reader from the fictional reality. The apparent similarity in even these factors, however, can be properly judged only after we have analysed representation and interactivity. To use Crawford s definition, A game creates a subjective and simplified representation of emotional reality. A game is not an objective accurate representation of reality; objective accuracy is necessary only to the extent required to support the player s fantasy. The player s fantasy is the key agent in making the game psychologically real. Even here, the game narrative does the same thing as the narrative of a spy thriller. But here I must mention that Crawford s definition is slightly dated and does not take into account certain new developments in artificial intelligence (AI) or in computer graphics and interactivity. The computer game, now, is better able to respond to situations and has more emotional and non technical content than it did before. Sound, and state of the art graphics (called in gaming parlance eye candy ), can far exceed the effects created by the player s imagination. Games, like stories, attempt to represent reality. Proto Pump Inhibitors Essay Description/Synopsis: Proton pump inhibitors (PPIs) are used for the treatment of gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) and Laryngopharyngeal reflux (LPR) due to their potential to inhibit gastric acid production. Not only the risk of other severe conditions like hyperparathyroidism, diarrhea and pneumonia increases upon the long term use of PPIs but the negative effects also extend to coronary heart disease and atherosclerotic diseases. The living statue has also been dated to appear in a scene of the 1945 French film, Les enfants du paradis (Children of Paradise). The difference between print news and electronic news is astounding. Overall, I must agree with Sam Jacob s argument stating that electronic news will eventually overrun print news, and that print news doesn t fully state everything that everyone needs to know. Dealing with rhetorical appeals, I feel that Sam Jacobs leans more on pathos than using logos and ethos to appeal to the audience. He states a lot about the hurricane and how it affected people and uses that to say that electronic print news covered more of it because you can have a multitude of news outlets covering the same story, each saying something different, but as an overall stating the same idea. In order to support his argument that God is one , Aquinas gives three different proofs. The first proof is based on God s simplicity, the second proof is based on God s perfection, and the third proof is based on the unity of the world. In this essay, I will analyze Aquinas s argument in which he explains that God is one based on his three proofs. I will discuss each of Aquinas s proofs and determine their effectiveness. To begin his argument, Aquinas states that it can be shown from three sources that God is one. The claim God is one means that there can only be one God because God is simple, perfect, and unique. The first proof which demonstrates God is one is based on His simplicity. The simplicity of God refers to the fact that he is not made of parts. This single standard being God, God is the one thing anything can be compared to because he is perfect. Therefore, there is a single ordering of all things that exist. The unity of that ordering must be because of a single cause of that order, which is God. The unity of that ordering must be from a single cause because multiple causes would produce a unity of ordering only by accident. To this day, she is considered to be one of the most influential American poets of all time. I taste a liquor never brewed has been said to be Emily Dickinson s best poem she ever wrote. It is said to be her best poem because of the complexity of the poem. She wrote with an obvious rhyme scheme and expresses superb imagery throughout her poem. This poem also shows how early editors diminished the strength of Dickinson s verse (Forman, Robert J.). The third and sixteenth lines of her poem, I taste a liquor never brewed has been changed multiple time by editors throughout the years to what they believed fit better than what she had written originally lines. The first change was the third line with The first would substitute Vats upon the Rhine for Frankfort Berries and the next change was with the sixteenth lines with Leaning against the sun for Manzanilla come! • 29. The Social Structure Of The West 8th century and particular causes that explain why it was by far the most violent and the most universally significant of these revolutions. The first of the general causes was the social structure of the West. The feudal regime had been weakened step by step and had already disappeared in parts of Europe. The increasingly numerous and prosperous elite of wealthy commoners merchants, manufacturers, and professionals, often called the bourgeoisie aspired to political power in those countries where it did not already possess it. The peasants, many of whom owned land, had attained an improved standard of living and education and wanted to get rid of the last vestiges of feudalism so as to acquire the full rights of landowners and to be free to increase their holdings. Furthermore, from about 1730, higher standards of living had reduced the mortality rate among adults considerably. This, together with other factors, had led to an increase in the population of Europe unprecedented for several centuries: it doubled between 1715 and 1800. For France, which with 26 million inhabitants in 1789 was the most populated country of Europe, the problem was most acute. Voltaire [Credit: Stock Montage/Hulton Archve/Getty Images]A larger population created a greater demand for food and consumer goods. William Faulkner s `` A Rose For Emily `` While authors like Edgar Allen Poe and Stephen King are known for their creepy writings, William Faulkner has achieved a level of disturbing that is hardly reached in short stories. A Rose for Emily is a story that shows how the insanity of one woman is able to shock an entire town, even in death. When first reading A Rose for Emily, anyone can see how twisted Emily Grierson is. Not only for the fact that she was sleeping in the same bed as a corpse, but because this was not the first time that she had kept a dead body in her house. While her family does have a history of mental instability, stating that, remembering old lady Wyatt, her great aunt, had gone completely crazy at last (section II), she is able to out do the impossible and create an aura of mystery that surrounds her both during life and death. After reading this story, it makes the audience question not only the reasoning that Emily has behind not only killing Homer, but keeping his body trapped in her house up until she met death as well. It also brings to attention how much the townsfolk actually influenced the progression of insanity that caused Emily and those around her, so much turmoil. For example, if the townsfolk had not used Emily as a source of entertainment and gossip, would she have stayed the recluse? While, the townsfolk are not to blame, it makes readers wonder: what if? The built environment is human activities and their interactions to the environment that are shaped by our social economic activities. Furthermore, it is also imperative to know what pollutants are, pollutants are any gas, liquid or solid substance that have been emitted into the atmosphere and are in high enough concentrations to be considered harmful to the environment, or human, animal and plant health (B.C. Air Quality , 2013). The concepts of spatiality, temporality, organizational structure, and health effects and outcomes all relate to one another in a sense that they are scales or levels that can correlate with one another to create cause and effects to the environment. Scale can be defined as the spatial, temporal, quantitative, or analytical dimensions used to measure and study any phenomenon, and levels as the units of analysis that are located at different positions on a scale (Cash, 2006). Similar to spatial scale that can be thought of as divisible into different levels, temporal scale can be thought of as divisible into different time frames related to rates, durations, or frequencies (Cash, 2006). Studies have found that exposure to pollutants such as nitrogen dioxides (NO2), sulfur dioxides (SO2), ozone, and particulate matter (PM) has been associated with increased mortality and hospital admissions due to health outcomes such as respiratory and cardiovascular ... The Complex Nature Of Equiano s Identity Crisis Daniel Miret HUM3306 29 September 2014 Option Three The complex nature of Equiano s identity crisis Equiano presents himself as an African, who is embattled with a myriad of issues enroute to a foreign land. He starts off as a normal African boy that takes pride in the family unit. His life changes as he is exposed to a life of slavery that makes him wonder just how far he would go to regain his freedom. Equaino is celebrated due to his anti slave trade achievements, but rather criticized for a lack of authenticity in his plight to free the world of slavery. He begins his narrative with a brief insight into the person he was before being captured. We discover a identity that is in the norm for African society. He presents himself as an African from Essaka, which is in Eboe, and what is currently referred to as Nigeria. Equiano was born in 1745 and was a member of the royal family. Moreover, he presents himself as a common African boy but his family and origins state otherwise. Equiano is engaged in a family that from the onset practiced its form of slavery through ownership of servants. His father gives the audience a sense of hypocrisy on Equiano s part when he rebukes slave trade. The identity of the character Equiano is immediately casted into doubt (Olaudah, 111). In retrospect, the African boy understood the dangers of abduction and was protected and aware of the incessant threat of capture. The fact remains that Equiano had his roots entrenched in a ... While aboard the ship, I was able to to study the guides. There was a lot of useful information in all of them. I believe I gained a great deal from How to Go to America Alone. We stopped in Honolulu to pick up more travelers. Many were fellow Japanese who were leaving Hawaii in search of higher paying jobs on the mainland. I must say, many of their stories did not quite represent those that had encouraged me to take this journey. Life on Hawaii must be very much different than on the mainland. I was told that the companies and plantations had effectively became powerful unchecked governing forces. Abuse of foreign labor is common. I must be positive and understand that the situation in the United States will not be the same. Hopefully, I will be able to succeed in my studies and make a great deal of money. • 44. Analysis Of Henry David Thoreau s Walden Henry David Thoreau will go down in history as one of the greatest influential writer s and philosophers in American history. Not only was he a smart and intelligent man, but he had such wisdom and determination when he looked at every aspect of life. Thoreau was just an ordinary individual from Concord, which helped the readers relate to him on a more personal level when they read his work. In Thoreau s Walden, he wanted the reader to understand that you should live life more simple, connect with nature so you can connect with God, and live your life working hard so you do not have to solely rely on anyone. Thoreau moved and lived in the woods for two years to simply live simpler. Before Thoreau moved into the woods, he had been living in Concord, Massachusetts. Young Thoreau, then in his late 20s, had tried to live as others lived as a schoolmaster, a private tutor, a surveyor, a gardener, a farmer, a house painter, a carpenter, a mason, a day laborer, a pencil maker, a glass paper maker, a writer, and sometimes a poetaster, by his own reckoning but had found those careers wanting. The mass of men, he wrote, lead lives of quiet desperation. He was determined not to be one of them. (Christian Science Monitor) Thoreau wanted to find his place in the world, he wanted to find his purpose. Even when writing about the same chair at the same time, Edgar Allen Poe and Jack London would describe it in very different manners. This all boils down to the stylistic and rhetorical differences in the two men s writing styles. This situation is the same as the two given passages. Two different authors both visited the Galapagos Islands during the nineteenth century and wrote about their experiences. As one would have guessed, the two passages do not say the same thing in the same way. These two authors have very different essays due to the differences in their style and used rhetoric. Passage one is rather short compared to the second passage. This passage also seems to have been written by a professional or perhaps a scientist s assistant. This passage focuses more heavily upon vegetation and geography rather than the setting and animals. This author talks about the sun burnt brushwood, black basaltic lava, and wretched looking little weeds. Not only this, but the author talks about how he diligently tried to collect as many plants as possible. Through all of his examinations of the flora, this makes him seem as though he is on the island for a scientific research operation rather than to simply look around him. The first of these being pumping of groundwater, although an effective solution in the short term (offsetting almost 70% of the water shortage and reducing crop fallow and job losses), these reserves will become ever more expensive to extract and will eventually run out. Under irrigating land, idling of land and shifting of crops go together as strategies that will save the proprietor water but will also decrease output and consequently operating profits. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... An article written by Ostrander (2015) gives an interesting take on longer term and more sustainable strategies for L.A in response to the Californian drought, all of which revolve around changing the way the city deals with its water. The article states that the concreting of channels and river beds and an increase in urban impermeable surfaces have meant that less water can filter into the ground, rather it either floods or drains straight into the ocean. In changing the rhetoric of storm water being a nuisance and restoring waterways to allow them to hold, slow and filter water would fix many problems at once. Combining this with technology such as permeable tarmac would allow groundwater to replenish faster when the rains arrive. Although these solutions are not cheap, they are said to be far cheaper than desalinization. In addition, It is estimated that through strategies such as these, L.A could reduce its water import from 85% to just over half. An article by Hudson (2015) gives recommendations for combatting drought with far longer term orientation, all of which, similar to Ostrander, revolve around the management of water. Industrial Emissions And Its Effects On Human Health And... 1.Introduction Industrial emissions are a major sources of air pollution, and thus responsible for numerous deleterious effects on a human health and environment caused by photochemical smog, acid rain, and resultant degradation of ecosystems and bio diversity. Ontario s SO2 emissions are predominantly around 65 percent from industrial sources including non ferrous smelting. The major environmental concerns associated with smelting are energy consumption, releases of sulphur dioxide and particulate matter to air, and the generation of residues, such as slag and captured dust (Environment Canada, 2006). In this paper, the policies and regulation that were implemented by the United Nations Convention to reduce the amount of SO2... Throughout the early 20th century, many mining and smelting venture such as Inco and Falconbridge were created to take advantage of the growing nickel industry. Both are these companies used a smelting process called heap roasting method to extract the nickel from the ore. However, Smelting process is the one main source of the sulphur fumes which caused acid rain (Buhr, 1998). This results from nickel production itself, where there is 8 more times of sulphur oxides particulate in the ore than actual nickel (Crawford, 1994). At the beginning of this century, the amount of SO2 released into the atmosphere weren t much of a concern since the nickel output was considerably small. It later became a problem as the demand for nickel production was gradually increasing (Crawford, 1994). Up till the 1970 s, the Smelting industry in the Sudbury region was one of the largest metal producing complexes in the world, which meant that it also release a massive amount of Sulphur and metal particulates into the environment. By the 1960 s, the smelting site in Sudbury was one of the largest point source of SO2 emission releasing thousands of tons of metal particulates from the smelters as graph 1 displays. (Keller, Heneberry Gunn, 1999). As more ground level of sulphur dioxide emission ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 56. Effects Of Monster In Night By Elie Wiesel How do monsters affect people? Monsters can affect people in many different ways. Monsters can come in many different shapes, sizes and thoughts. Some monsters can be other people, but some can be the thought of something awful happening or losing faith. In the book Night by Elie Wiesel, him and his family are being targeted by the Nazis because they are Jewish. They are taken to concentration camps and split apart from each other. In the book Pure by Julianna Baggott, Pressia seems to have little hope that she will survive through her 16th birthday and escape OSR. Later in the book, Pressia gets captured by OSR, but during the capture she meets her half brother Partridge and they make it out alive. Many modern atrocities and genocides can... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The German soldiers also known as Nazi, raided towns were the Jews were living and started deporting them to concentration camps. They were crammed into cattle cars and separated from family. Elie says, What s more, if I felt anger at that moment it was not directed at the Kapo but at my father. Why couldn t he have avoided Idek s wrath? That was what life in concentration camp had made of me... (54). Basically, Elie is mad at his father because he had to fight with Idek, knowing how powerful he was. This proves the topic sentence because Elie s father feared what would happen if he did not stand up for himself. Elie says, I woke from my apathy only when two men approached my father. I threw myself on his body. He wa cold. I slapped him. I rubbed his hands, crying: Father! Father! Wake up. They re going to throw you outside... (99). Thus, Elie feared what would happen if he was left alone and his father was dead. It supports what is stated in my topic sentence because the fear was being too weak to carry on and being killed by the Nazi soldiers. Elie overcame the monsters because no matter how hard life got in the concentration camp he never stopped fighting. Elie was very successful because he made it out alive, even when he had foot problems, he never let anything hold him back. In the book Night, there is fear of what might happen, but in the end no one gave up until they were too sick to carry ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
