Private School Essay
Crafting an essay on the subject of private schools presents its own set of challenges. Firstly,
delving into the intricacies of private education requires thorough research to understand its
nuances, advantages, and drawbacks compared to public schooling. Navigating through various
perspectives, ranging from academic excellence to socio-economic exclusivity, demands critical
analysis and balanced argumentation.
Moreover, addressing the diverse facets of private schools involves exploring their curriculum,
extracurricular activities, admission processes, and the impact of tuition fees on accessibility.
Additionally, discussing the role of private schools in shaping students' character, values, and
future prospects necessitates a nuanced understanding of educational philosophies and societal
implications.
Furthermore, capturing the essence of private education requires clarity in articulating ideas,
maintaining coherence throughout the essay, and ensuring a persuasive tone to engage readers
effectively. Balancing factual information with personal insights while adhering to academic
conventions poses another layer of difficulty in essay composition.

Watcher Essay
The Watcher nbsp; nbsp; nbsp; nbsp; nbsp; This incredible short story is about a
little boy named Charlie Bradley, who isn t like all the other kids his age. He was
a very sick boy. Charlie had a loving mother who cared for him when he was sick.
They seemed to have both one terrible thing in common, a bad chest. The Bradleys
did not own a television set, so Charlie had to find different means of entertainment
on his long sick days at home. He learned that if he kept quiet and still, the adults
would have labeled him to be part of the furniture. On his days home, Charlie
received glimpses into the adult world of common topics like misery and scandals.
These relations and encounters with the adults had drastically matured Charlie before

HBCU Analysis
Historically Black Colleges and Universities were established for African
Americans during a time of strict segregation. For most of America s history,
African Americans who received a college education could only get it from an
HBCU. Today, HBCUs remain one of the surest ways for an African American, or
student of any race, to receive a high quality education. The first Historically Black
College and University established is formerly known as the Institute for Colored
Youth founded by Richard Humpreys in 1837, approximately 26 years before slavery
ended. Today, this school is better known as Cheney University of Pennsylvania, the
oldest African Americaninstitution of higher learning. Two other institutions that

It should remind us that HBCUs were established despite the resistance that African
Americans received from the White Americans. HBCUs afforded African Americans
the education that was once legally denied to them. Historically Black Colleges and
Universities provide the best college experiences for African Americans. They have
produced many prominent leaders, preachers, physicians and judges within our
communities. HBCUs teach and help keep the history of African Americans
struggle alive. The fabric of HBCUs are rooted in family. Many parents and
children share a special bond because of the HBCU experience. HBCUs are a vital
part of the continuing efforts to shape great African American leaders that will
promote strength in our communities and help achieve our dream of equality in today

STI Surveillance System Analysis
Evaluation of the Summerville County STI Surveillance System Introduction An
STI Surveillance report was recently completed for Summerville County and its
subsequent cities, and now, an evaluation is necessary to examine how well the
system operates to meet its purpose and objectives (Lee et al., 2010). Public health
surveillance systems should be evaluated periodically, and recommendations for
improving quality in the system will be provided (Lee et al., 2010). The purpose
of evaluating public health surveillance systems is to ensure that problems of
public health importance are being monitored efficiently and effectively (CDC,
2001). Results that are generated from surveillance systems are not always free of
errors; therefore, an evaluation is essential to produce a high quality STI
surveillance system for Chlamydia, Gonorrhea, HIV AIDS, and Syphilis programs.
Evaluating these errors and shortcomings will allow for higher accuracy in results
and will further lend a hand in disseminating findings in an efficient and timely
fashion. The analysis being provided, as well as other reports, will drastically play a
role in helping Summerville with the burden of STIs. It is important to assess the
quality of the surveillance system in order to maintain relevant surveillance data,
otherwise time, money, and effort will have gone to waste.
Demand and Quantity Demanded
Question 1 This article is talking about government has increased the sugar
subsidy due to higher world prices, but not because of an impending general
election. Government had no choice but must increase the sugar subsidy to
prevent the rakyat from absorbing the higher cost. If sugar prices are increased, it
will cost a domino effect on all good prices. Supply is defined as amount of
producers willing and able to sell at a given price. There is a direct/ positive
relationship between price and quantity supplied. Positive relationship means that the
two variables changes in the same directly. This concept can apply in this article
because when government increases the sugar subsidy, the cost production of sugar
will decreases.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
At point A, the price of a coke is RM2.00 and the quantity demanded for it is
12,000. However at point C, when the price of the coke increased to RM6, the
quantity demanded for the coke decreased 3 quarters compared with point A.
When the price of the coke increased to RM8, there was no demand of coke in the
economy. The price of the products affects the quantity demanded in the economy.
As the price increase, quantity demanded in the economy declines and as the price
decreases, quantity demanded for the product will increases. Other than changes
in price affects the demand curve, the determinants of demand can cause the
change in the demand curve shift to the right or to the left. [pic] Firstly, the
income levels of consumers will affect the demand of normal goods and inferior
goods in the economy. The relationships between income and demand of normal
goods are directly proportional. As the income increases, demand for normal
goods and inferior goods will increase from D to D2. And as the income decreases,
demand for normal goods and inferior goods decrease from D to D1. A brand new
car is an example of normal goods and a second hand car is an inferior goods.
Secondly, substitute goods are the other determinants causing a shift in demand
curve. Substitute goods are goods that can
The Vampire, By Anne Rice
For the majority of time since literary vampires were created, they were represented
as monstrous creatures without souls whose sole purpose in literature was to kill and
cause terror until they were ultimately destroyed. These literary vampires were slowly
given more human characteristics, but it was Anne Rice who radically humanized the
vampire, by creating the cultured vampire who, in some ways, represents an
improved, superior human. In the Interview with the Vampire (1976), Anne Rice
juxtaposed Louis de Pointe du Lac, a humanized, emotional, vampire, to other
vampires in order to emphasize his cultured nature in a modern world lacking
morality. Although Louis was a vampire for most of the novel, he represented
humanity in an absolute yet rudimentary manner: through his struggle to find
meaning in a world lost to modernity, which he, with his religious beliefs, believed
had forsaken him. While Louis de Pointe du Lac, the protagonist of the Interview
with the Vampire, seemed to be going constantly through a series of losses in the
novel, he also made the best of the obstacles presented to him representing humanity
by attempting to find happiness through his struggles. The first loss that Louis
experienced his brother seemed to set the theme for the rest of his life. Paul, his
brother, killed himself after Louis refused to believe that Paul s religious visions
were real and; therefore, refused to sell the indigo plantations. Louis blamed himself
for the death of
Italian Immigrants To Italy
In addition to Italians who came for job opportunities, there were also previously
affiliated gang members from Europe like Italy, France and sometimes Ireland. The
majority of these affiliated immigrants were Italian Mafia members who flew Italy
after the Facist regime led by Benito Mussolini started an anti Mafiacampaign (Crime
1920 1940). Some previously formed gangs were able to reassemble in the United
Statesand especially in New York. However, their power and gang activities were
very limited as they were under constant surveillance and pressure of the police
forces. Therefore, their influence was merely local and their profit very minimal
(Crime 1920 1940). By the time World War I was on the verge of breaking out, only

Poverty and the Prevalence of Heart Disease
Poverty and the Prevalence of Heart Disease
Throughout the history of the United States, two things have always afflicted this
great nation: inequality and disease. They have always had an effect on each other,
as diseases have affected those from lower classes differently from those from upper
classes. In our modern U.S. society, we face a specific disease, heart disease, which is
now the leading cause of death in the United States and is part of a complex system
of social problems (Center for Disease Control).
The main social problem is the higher prevalence of heart disease among the poor
than the non poor. This social problem has lead me to the following research
question: in the United States, how is poverty associated with the prevalence of heart
disease? To answer this question I will define heart disease, why it is an issue needing
our attention, and whom it specifically affects. I will then delve into the many social
mechanisms that facilitate this trend and show how they all work together to create
an environment in which the poor are more likely to deal with heart disease than the
non poor. The mechanisms involved are individual and institutional, meaning that
they operate and would have to be addressed at either the individual or institutional
level. The individual focused mechanisms include smoking, physical inactivity,
obesity, factors from early in life, and mental factors. The institution focused ones
include quality of healthcare and lack of access to

Pearl Prynne Character Development
Nathaniel Hawthorne s Gothic Romance novel, The Scarlet Letter, encircles Boston
society during the Era of Puritanism. Hawthorne introduces Hester Prynne on the
town scaffold, wearing her stamp of shame the Scarlet Letter and squashes her infant
against her bosom in fear of her punishment for committing adultery. The infant, Pearl
Prynne, flourishes into a stubborn, wild child whose clever and inquisitive nature
exceeds any child her age. While Pearl is confined within a bubble of solitude, she is
left to wonder about the identity of her unknown father. Pearl is shunned by the
children in Boston, and she seeks comfort in the forest that is free from the corrupt
Puritan society. Although some may argue that Pearl s future prosperity is unaffected

Dimmesdale is never involved in Pearl s childhood for fear of ruining his dignity.
In the rare instance when Dimmesdale shows fondness towards Pearl in secrecy of
the forest, he bends forward and impressed [a kiss] on her brow. Hereupon, Pearl
broke from her mother, and... bathed her forehead, until the unwelcome kiss was
quite washed off, and diffused through a long lapse of the gliding water
(Hawthorne, 194). Pearl s response to the kiss exemplifies her inability to love;
this destruction is caused by Dimmesdale s incompetence to claim being Pearl s
father. As children who do not receive care from both parents are incapable of
blossoming, Pearl s maturation is halted from a lack of a father figure early on in her
childhood. Some may argue that Dimmesdale s neglect of Pearl both parents. In turn,
Hester and Pearl s mother daughter relationship is strengthened. This argument is
supported from Hester receiving letters from Pearl; this shows the strong long
distance relationship that Pearl and Hester maintain (293). Nevertheless, Pearl is left
with no father image. If Dimmesdale truly cared about the relationship with his
daughter, he would have fought to live instead of leaving Pearl, one again, abandoned

Is Customer a King of the Market
Is consumer really the king In India?

Yes. counsumer is king in india. because consumer know what to buy what not to
buy. they are educated. and laws also give protection to customer .consumer
protection act is example. |
|
As per my counterview. Consumers are realy not consumers. Consumers bear an
invisible tag of being KINGS . They actually are not. In sense its just to attract the
consumers misguide them by a feel that they are valuable to the market. Consumers
is just an ATM to debit cash into the sellers accounts. And make profits to the
companies. As richers are linged in market. But what about middle class poor class.

Yes the consumer is the king of the market because the success of the business is
totally depend on the consumer. As we all known the marketing starts with the
consumer needs and ends with the fulfillment of the needs of the consumer. |

No, I don t think that the consumers are really the king. According to my point of
view actually only those consumers are king who have huge amount to spend or
you cn sy that who have more time n money to waste. A local consumer cn never
be the king. Here is an expl: like if a person purchase a refrigerator. After some days
he/she noticed that the refrigerator is not the 1st one it is a second hand machine n
also not working properly. Then the person goes to that stor from where he/she
purchased it. Guess what! the stor man refuged to take that machine back, and instid
of taking back he is blaming the customer.
After that the person goes to the company of that machine. Same thing happens with
him/her at that place. At last after no option is avilable he/she goes to the consumer
court and after all complains and enquiries the store man found guilty. Now the high
amount of 20, 000 rs goes into the consumer court

What Is Goldman s Response To Externalism
issue is because it pushes at the idea of content externalism which is the key concept
of Putnam s response. (Putnam)
Goldman s Response An Externalism Response Similarly to Nozick, the response
that Alvin Goldman offers to skepticism is one that highly relies on his conception
of knowledge and the logical work involved with his conception. Goldman articulates
his conception of knowledge in a piece titled, What is Justified Belief . Goldman
holds that knowledge is justified true belief, but really wants to focus on the meaning
of the word justified and the nature of justification. Goldman s conception of
knowledge and justification make him seemingly an externalist about justification.
This externalism about justification will be at the ... Show more content on

One of the downside of externalism is that it seems to force philosophers to admit
that we might not have a complete understanding of knowledge. This does not
necessarily seem problematic though because it strictly implies that the complete
understanding of knowledge cannot be found within philosophy not that it cannot
be found at all. It seems reasonable that the different disciplines of science that go
past the realms of philosophy might very well be able to further our understanding
of knowledge. The other downside of the externalism response the fact that it might
do too much in the way that it opens the possibility that we might know things that
we are unaware that we know does not seem to me be a very daunting one even
though it does seem slightly counterintuitive. Personally, I am more comfortable
with idea of having more knowledge rather less. This seems to be what externalism
does is open the door to us having more knowledge than we actually know that we
have. Whereas some of the downsides of the other responses to skepticism that I
present, namely Nozick s, are ones that further limit the amount of knowledge that we
have. I much rather have more than less (Nozick). (Goldman) The externalism
response (Goldman s) is the strongest response because is one that both appeals to
our intuition and one that does not carry necessarily
Polanyi s Division Of Labor
Though Polanyi makes remarks that remind one of Adam Smith s understandings,
his ideas are generally closer to those of Karl Marx. For one, Polanyi s language
hints at his opposition to the division of labor. He describes the division of labor as
paralyzing (p.109), thus suggesting it was not beneficial to society, the economy,
etc. Marx also has a distaste for the division of labor, as he believes it to increase
the alienation of workers from their commodities. On the other hand, in his works,
Smith presents himself as in favor of the division of labor, discussing how it created
more jobs and benefited the economy. In addition, Polanyi states that he agrees with
the same notions about man and society that were popular in the first phase

History, Tradition And Culture, Mexico
A country rich in history, tradition and culture, Mexico is made up of 31 states and
one federal district. It is the third largest country in Latin America and has one of the
largest populations more than 100 million making it the home of more Spanish
speakers than any other nation in the world. Despite the political and social changes
that have occurred over the centuries, evidence of past cultures and events are
apparent everywhere in Mexico. Many of Mexico s rural areas are still inhabited by
indigenous people whose lifestyles are quite similar to those of their ancestors. In
addition, many pre Columbian ruins still exist throughout Mexico, including the
ancient city of TeotihuacГЎn and the Mayan pyramids at ChichГ©nItzГЎ and Tulum.
Reminders of the colonial past are evident in the architecture of towns like Taxco and
QuerГ©tar.

The Olmecs, Mexico s first known society, settled on the Gulf Coast near what is
now Veracruz. Remembered for the giant head sculptures they carved from native
stone, the Olmecs had two main population centers: San Lorenzo, which flourished
from about 1200 to 900 B.C., and La Venta in Tabasco, which lasted until about 600
B.C.
By 300 B.C., villages based on agriculture and hunting had sprung up throughout the
southern half of Mexico. Monte AlbГЎn, home to the Zapotec people, had an
estimated 10,000 inhabitants. Between 100 B.C. and 700 A.D., TeotihuacГЎn, the

Religion s Influence On Foreign Policy
Religion s impact on the relations between states is one of the least understood
security challenges of the twenty first century. Religion s role in international politics
also offers an intellectual challenge to academics of international relations and
religion and politics (Warner and Walker, 2011). 9/11 attacks on World Trade Center
and the Pentagon by Islamic extremists supported by Afghanistan, which was
governed by an Islamic regime increased the interest in religionin international
relations. In this essay, first the relationship between religion and international affairs
will be put into context. Following that, the failure of the main international relations
theories to acknowledge the key role of religion in foreign policywill be explained.
What I will I argue is that religion s influence on foreign policy can be seen if three
key areas are observed, which are: leaders beliefs, faith based organisations and
public opinion. Another area which is a country s religious identity won t be
explained separately because of the fact that it is closely linked to all of the above
mentioned areas.
Foreign policy is generally defined as the formal policies of a state which affect
various military, economic, humanitarian, social and cultural dimensions of its
relations with other states and non state actors (Warner and Walker, 2011). However
this definition excludes the element of religion, which cannot be ignored as an
attribute of individuals and communities, as an

Colossians 3 is saying that we have to become someone new in Christ. In Colossians
verse 1, it said that we should seek heavenly things not the things that are on the
Earth. Colossians, 3:1 said ВЁIf then you have been raised with Christ, seek the
things that are above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. Another thing
that I observed was in verse 10, we have to put on a new self, which is being renewed
in knowledge after the image of the creator. In Colossians 3:10, it said ВЁand have

that we should love one another. In Colossians 3:22, it said Bondservants, obey in

word slave is. In Ephesians 6:5, it talks about how bondservant to obey your

and with sincerity of heart, just as you would obey Christ. It relates because they
both talk about how slaves should obey their masters and it also talks about the
heart. The last word is heart. The definition for heart is inner life. In Matthew
13:19, it said that the evil one snatches the heart. They relate because they both talk
about the heart and how we have to be sincere to God and fear him. If we don t, the
evil one will snatch our hearts away and we will fall astray from
Central Bank Of The United States
The Federal Reserve is the central bank of the United States, its structure combines
centralization with regional authority: including a Board of Governors in Washington

consider changes in interest rates, and may have an unscheduled meeting at any time
in between. The Fed s responsibilities rest in four categories: monetary policy,
financial intermediation through emergency liquidity (as the lender of last resort),
supervision of certain types of banks and other financial firms, and establishment of
payment system services to financial firms and the government. The primary method
of monetary policy is through open market operations and involves the purchase of
existing U.S Treasury securities. Through this type of purchase, the Fed increases the
reserve base and thereby facilitates the ability of depository institutions, banks, to

...I just sobbed. The end of the football game brought Jason Money to his knees.
Near the end of the game, Spanish Fork seemed to have won the game. All that
needed to happen was for the final play to end. But after he got the ball, Jason
Money stood still when the clock hit zero seconds and had the football taken from
him to score a touchdown. He had forgotten that the game ends not with the clock,
but with the play. The game ended with Spanish Fork losing. But the story soon
became far larger than what it was. The video footage of Jason losing the football
was spread over the internet. It attracted about 1.2 million viewers. The scene of the
ball being taken became national news. Jason was shocked not only by the views
on the video, but the content that was tweeted to him from the people that watched
the game between Spanish Fork and Maple Mountain. You re so stupid, you couldn

Jason for his mistake. You should never play football again. 15 death threats
emerged from the mix of hate and ridicule. Jason s family was shocked. He felt how

Basically, this means that there was no catastrophic cause for the crash, such as a
wing falling off, but rather the crew flew into the terrain unaware of where they
were located. In fact, had we been so unfortunate as to crash into the side of the
mountain that day in question, it would have been, in fact, a CFIT. One particular
case of CFIT was caused by the crew not trusting their instruments. It took place in
the United States, where an experienced crew of two pilots conducted a night flight
from the West Coast. They took off into a very dark night, as there was very little
ambient light from the moon or external lights. And a physiological effect of flying
made the situation more risky. Now, from a physiological perspective, each of us
as human beings has what scientists call proprioceptors, which are located all over
our body and assist us in feeling, touching, and maintaining balance. We also have
fluid in sections of the inner ear that assist us in balance. The function of these two
areas the inner ear and the proprioceptors are normally affected when drinking
alcohol and can be blamed for the spinning sensation one gets when drunk. From a
flight perspective, there is a commonly known effect called inversion illusion,
whereby during night flying the proprioceptors in your lower back and backside feed
the incorrect information to the inner ear. This misalignment causes pilots to feel as

Soccer Research Papers
Soccer was developed in London famed Newgate Prison in the early 1800 s.
Prisoners who had their hand cut off for crimes of theft came up with a sport that
used only the feet. The game spread from there. The word Soccer originated as a
slang abbreviation of the word association . Soccer is called footballin most other
countries. Soccer is known worldwide, it is one of the world s most popular team
sports. If you follow these pieces of information you will become a successful
soccer player. To begin with, there are four main positions goalkeeper, defender,
midfielder, and attacker. Three or four defenders, known as fullbacks, are the last
line of defense before the goal. Midfield is comprised of three or four halfbacks,
which must defend the goal and be on the offense. Attacking positions are called

Analysis Of The Bonfire Of The Vanities
In the book, The Bonfire of the Vanities written by Tom Wolfe, Sherman McCoy is
one of the many characters that exhibit internal corruption. Thanks to his position
at the very top of the social pyramid, Sherman McCoy lives a sheltered life and
possesses no knowledge about those outside his very limited circle of influence.
As a result, when confronted with a situation far outside his insulated world, he
panics, resulting in the destruction of himself and others. Sherman s ridiculous
belief that insulation is necessary for survival, his egoistic views as well as his
greed are the very things that lead to the death of his insulated lifestyle. One of the
very first things Wolfe points out about Sherman McCoy other than his ongoing
affair is his tendency to only associate himself with certain people, which was
mainly with people of high status. On his way to work, Sherman walks towards the
taxies to take one to work. During the ride, he mentions being told that If you want
to live in New York, ... you ve got to insulate ... meaning insulate yourself from
those people [referring to the normal, non masterful breed of people] (54). Sherman
s direct correlation to his father and how he still travels to work by the subway, even
as the chief executive officerof Dunning Sponget Leach at the age of seventy one
(54) shows the contrast between their lives and how Sherman views that living a
life where he did not have to associate himself with those out of his breed (54) was
essential for survival in New York City. Sherman getting lost during his drive with
Maria from the airport is a prime example of his lack knowledge of New York outside
of Manhattan. Deep into the Bronx, Sherman could no longer tell where he was
going (83). His panic only makes it worse as he is unable to drive out the area and
keeps driving in circles. This shows that his limited knowledge of the world around
him are the root of his issues, since getting lost in the Bronx was the first step to his
spiral down to despair. One of Sherman McCoy s chief flaws is his massive ego.
This is shown throughout the book, where we see that he does not associate himself
with anyone other than those he works with, and even then, does so with those on his
Documented Congitive Biases
For one there is a serious problem with the general reliability of the method, and of
course the raters are under the influence of the several different, well documented
cognitive biases (Murphy, 2008). Oddly this subjective method is often used even in
situations where there are more objective criterions, like salesor turnover, available
(Vinchur et al., 1998). Its weaknesses aside, supervisory ratings of individuals can
indeed be meaningful under certain conditions, and there are situations where no
other measures are available. Researchers has suggested that the method can be
improved by using a carefully conducted job analysis as a foundation for the
construction of the rating scales, and training for the observers conducting the ratings
(Borman Smith, 2012).
Objective measures, such as turnover, sales, absences or production rates are often
considered as better measures of job performance. Sadly these criterions also have
their weaknesses, at least to some extent. A recurrent problem with these measures is
that of criterion contamination. Simply put, even if the criterion in question is of
central importance to the employer such as sales, there can be several different
reasons for the individuals specific value in the criterion, for example leadership and
environmental issues which effects the compared employees differently. There are
possible efforts to be made trying to limit these factors influence s on the results, with
varying efficiency (Hammer Landau, 1981;

In this modern era, wireless communication has become a requisite need like water
and electricity which is part of our personal as well as our professional life. When
we talk about wireless communication, the first word which comes to our mind is
Wi Fi. It uses 2.4 5 GHz RF (radio frequency) to deliver internet access around a
wide area. As more and more users are connected to the network, the rate of data
transfer gets reduced. So when more people access wireless internet, airwaves gets
clogged and it makes difficult to latch onto a reliable signal. Transmission of data is

This issue is resolved using Li Fi as it emits no EM radiations and so there will be no
interference with the monitoring equipment.
Safe environment:
Light waves are safer than radio waves. So Li Fi is used in those places where Wi
Fi is prohibited such as in mines and petrochemical plants. Subway stations and
tunnels, commonly known as dead zones for most emergency communications will
now have web access to every corner only because of Li Fi.
Airplanes:
Wi Fi cannot be used efficiently in the airplanes. Li Fi is used to limit the
interference between radio frequency waves and radio of pilot. Also the passengers
have to pay a huge amount of money for the service of dial up speed Wi Fi on the
plane. Li Fi could easily solve this problem. Reduction in cabling equipment leads

I decided to complete my National History Day project on the conflict and
compromise of the Tuskegee Syphilis Study. I learned about the Tuskegee Syphilis
Experiment and started investigating the experiment. This study seemed to be a

and our public library, I did not find any books about syphilis or the experiment.

Kevin Plank Under Armour Essay
Under Armour
1. Under Armour was founded in 1995 by Kevin Plank. Kevin played football at the
University of Maryland and noticed how often he and he s teammates had to change
their undershirts because of all of the sweat they absorbed. The sweat the shirts
absorbed made the shirts much heavier and more uncomfortable. He then noticed that
the compressions shorts he was wearing were not nearing as heavy and didn t absorb
the sweat the shirt did. This one simple observation kick started his experimentation
to develop a t shirt for athletes. He experimented with different fabrics in his
grandmothers basements until he thought he created the perfect shirt. He sent the
shirts to friends that played in the NFL. After receiving feedback, he perfected the
design and made his first deal with Georgia Tech, from there the company took off....

Cell Membrane And The Border Surrounding The Cell
In an animal cell, plasma membrane is the border surrounding the cell that allows the
passage of enough oxygen, nutrients, and wastes (98). Cytoplasm is region between
the cell membrane and the nucleus, and that is where we find various types of
organelles of specific form and their tasks (98). The nucleus is an information center
that contains most of the genetic information (DNA) and it controls the activities by
creating messenger RNA (mRNA) so it can instruct proteinsynthesis (102). The
nucleus s outer layer is surrounded by nuclear envelope, which is a double membrane
(inner and outer membrane (102). Furthermore, the nuclear envelope has pores that
allow proteins, RNAs, etc. to enter or exit the nucleus (102). In other words, it is like
a gate that controls passage area between the nucleus and cytoplasm. Moreover,
within the nucleus there is another organellecalled nucleolus where the ribosomal
RNA (rRNA) is synthesized (102). Ribosomes are complexes that are made of rRNA
and proteins inside of nucleolus (102 103). They help synthesize proteins, meaning
that it helps create proteins in a cell. There are two types of ribosomes: free
ribosomes and bound ribosomes. Most of the proteins are made by free ribosomes
that functions within the cytoplasm (102). Whereas bound ribosomes are attached to
the endoplasmic reticulum in order to make proteins that will go into the membrane,
sent within certain organelles, or export of the cell (102 104). There are two types of
Transcontinental Railroad Railroads
Railroads were a huge step in innovations for the United States. The transcontinental
Railroad was
Built from 1863 to 1869. Taking over six years, the railroad stretched almost 2,000
miles, connecting the Mississippi rivers to the Pacific Coast in San Francisco.
Although the transcontinental railroad was one of the biggest things to happen in the
railroad industry, there was many other railroads that caused significance. Through
the 1850 s and 1860 s alone over 50,000 miles of railroad were built throughout the
United States. And with all these railroads being built they were sure to leave impact
on many other industries. One of the most important changes that the railroads caused
was the increase of convenience
For citizens all throughout the United States. By traveling via train passengers
could reach their destination in 90% of the time compared to the travel methods
before. This also caused a large increase in Western Settlement. Now, families did
not have to worry about the harsh and long travel they would have had to make to
go West just a few years before. People did not have to worry about weather, supply
shortage, disease, and more, as railroad travel helped all of those situations. However,
every good thing has a bad side, and it is important to note that the increase of
Western Settlement forced more Indians out of their land, which began to cause
violence between white men and Indians. The railroads also affected agriculture

The Opening Line Of The Middle Of Things
In the opening chapter of Anna Karenina, Leo Tolstoy uses the technique of in
medias res, which translates from Latin to in the middle of things , to establish the
central themes of his novel. The opening line of the book serves as somewhat of a
thesis statement for the seven hundred pages that follow that is, Tolstoy asserts the
unique nature of unhappy families to preface a book about several strained familial
relationships. In the next sentence, Tolstoy establishes the novels chaotic tone,
describing everything in the Oblonskys household as being upset . The rest of the

Finally, in the third paragraph, the reader is introduced to the first character, Stiva,
whom they are told is a prince. Tolstoy uses luxurious diction to demonstrate Stiva s
lifestyle, referencing his morocco leather covered sofa and his plump, well kept
body . At the point the reader is introduced to Stiva, he has had a sudden awakening.
The authorial voice then switches from that of an omniscient third person to the
conscious thoughts of Stiva Oblonsky. In this manner, the paragraph is very similar
to the stream of consciousness style that would become so important during early
twentieth century literary movements. In doing this, Tolstoy both allows us the
same incomplete impression of Stiva s dream that Stiva has, and ties the dream
with the light, surreal sentiment it evokes in Stiva. This technique also plays with
the themes of memory and perception that were so integral to Tolstoy s early
works. The dream features a party with fantastic imagery of singing glass tables and
little decanters that [are] also women . This fantasy party is set in America, about as
far from Petersburg as possible, which points to a pervading tendency for escapism in
the Russian nobility at this time of social upheaval. Indeed, at several points in the
novel, characters flee Russia when met with adversity, as when Kitty gets sick and
Anna reconnects with Vronsky.
Hamartia in Oedipus Rex and Death of a Salesman
Hamartia in Oedipus Rex and Death of a Salesman Hamartia is defined as a fatal
flaw leading to the downfall of a tragic hero. Aristotle defines a tragic hero to be a
man who is not completely good and just, whose misfortune is brought out not by
vice or immorality, but by some error or weakness. The three key requirements of
Aristotle in regards to a tragic heroare; a high social standing, goodness or moral
excellence, or error committed by the hero in unawareness or ignorance. Two
quality examples of men that portray Aristotle s idea of a tragic hero, and who also
fit the three main requirements are Oedipus Rex and Willy Loman. Oedipus Rex
clearly and without a doubt answers to each of the three requirements laid out by
Aristotle is regards to a tragic hero. He is a man of social reputation, and possesses
exceptional qualities, but is in no means perfect. It is safe to say that Oedipus hamartia
is the cause of his own downfall. Willy Loman on the other hand is also considered
to be a tragic hero. Like Oedipus, Willy goes through his life, for the most part,
blindly, and never really realizes the complete truth of himself. Through his
delusional personality, and his continual blindness, Willy s hamartia is also the main
cause of his downfall, where in his case, leads to his death. Through further analysis
of both Oedipus Rex and Willy Loman s tragic flaws, along with literary criticism
from Aristotle s poetics, their hamartia, which ultimately leads them to their

For centuries, the beauty of Bengali women has been defined by their dark skin
tones, generous curves, sharp facial features and long, wavy hair. The traditional
Bengali woman adorned herself with glass bangles, bindi, nupur and nose pin and

submissive attitude, were considered to be part of her beauty.
However, this notion of beauty has changed drastically in the last few decades.

Aldo Leopold The Land Pyramid
In his essay titled The Land Ethic, Aldo Leopold argues that humans should extend
ethical behaviors to the natural environment or in other words, the land. The author
points out that, thus far, humans have only acted ethically towards one another.
However, he believes that it is time for humans also to start to treat the environment
with the same respect and dignity that we have for the members of our own species.
The author states that he is aware that we cannot entirely prevent utilizing natureas a
resource and a commodity. Nonetheless, he concludes that humans should have the
responsibility to take care of the environment and to assure its continued existence.
Leopold does not believe that humans are the inferior species, the conquerors of
the land as he puts it. Instead, he argues, humans are just plain citizens who simply
share the planet with millions of other species and who are a part of an intricate
and sophisticated system that makes life possible for all living beings.
Nonetheless, he believes that in order for people to realize this, and for them to
recognize nature as valuable and worth loving, they must be able to envision it as a
tangible object. To make this possible, Leopold creates the idea of The Land
Pyramid, whose purpose is to create a mental image of the environment as a complex
biotic mechanism. The food pyramid is comprised of many layers. The bottom layer
is the widest because it represents the species that are most abundant such as

Dickinson was a woman of many possibilities and uniqueness. Her life and mind set

Marvin Gaye Musical Effect
Musical Effects People tend to have an extensive connection with music to
announce many different occasions and events. Through music was one of the
ways that made the general public aware of different social events and as well as
problems throughout the nation. Listening to music in general can lighten up
someone s mood for example if they are sad or in a difficult situation. Marvin Gaye
and Michael Jackson were both idolized and Marvin Gaye started his singing

Introduction
1.1 Introduction to Finance Finance is a field that studies and addresses the ways in
which individuals, businesses, and organizations raise, allocate, and use monetary
resources over time, taking into account the risks entailed in their projects. The term
finance may thus incorporate any of the following: The study of money and other
assets; The management and control of those assets; Profiling and managing project
risks; The science of managing ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The money thus collected is then invested in capital market instruments such as
shares, debentures and other securities.
1.3 Mutual Fund Operation Flow Chart
In a mutual fund, the fund manager, who is also known as the portfolio manager,
trades the fund s underlying securities, realizing capital gains or losses, and collects
the dividend or interest income. The investment proceeds are then passed along to the
individual investors. The value of a share of the mutual fund, known as the net asset
value per share (NAV), is calculated daily based on the total value of the fund divided
by the number of shares currently issued and outstanding. Sources:

There are many entities involved and the diagram below illustrates the organisational
set up of a mutual fund:

Worldwide, Mutual Fund or Unit Trust as it is referred to in some parts of the
world, has long and successful history. The popularity of Mutual Funds has increased
manifold in developed financial markets, like the United States. As at the end of
March 2006, in the US alone there were 8,002 mutual funds with total assets of over
US$ 9.36 trillion (Rs.427Iakh crores). In India, the mutual fund industry started with
the setting up of the Unit Trust of India in 1964. Public sector banks
The Mission Essay
The Mission is a motion picture, directed by Roland Joffe in 1986, about a Jesuit
mission that is threatened by greed and imperialism in the late 18th century in the
Brazilian jungle. Father Gabriel, played by Jeremy Irons, climbs the mountains of
Brazil to bring Christianity to the natives. He is successful and brings about a
golden age among them. Mendoza, played by Robert De Niro, a slave trader, kills
his brother, Felipe played by Aidan Quinn, in a fit of rage over a woman named
Carlotta, played by Cherie Lunghi. Only Fr. Gabriel s leadership prevents his
suicide. Gabriel brings Mendoza to work at his mission with the natives, and
Mendoza finds peace and asks to become a priest. The Church, under pressure, gives
the land up to the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In this movie, that translates into, how the Portuguese only wanted to gain these
lands for profit. Since natives lived there the Portuguese wanted to gain the land so
they could trade slaves there. This was the whole reason Mendoza disregarded his
vows and fought against the Portuguese. The other reason, imperialism, is the policy
of extending a nation s authority by territorial acquisition or by the establishment of
economic and political domination over other nations. In this case, the Portuguese
wanted to acquire the lands belonging to the natives because of economic reasons.
The major theme of this movie is represented in a quote. This quote is, The church
is the bride of Christ, she is also the cross on which he is daily crucified. The Bride
of Jesus Christ is not a what, it s a who. She is the many membered body of Jesus
Christ that is carrying on the Message sent to her from God, she is the Church. For
the marriage of the Lamb is come, And His wife hath made herself ready.
Revelation 19:7, and And there came unto me one of the seven angels which had
the seven vials full of the seven last plagues, and talked with me, saying, Come
hither, I will shew thee the bride, the Lamb s wife. Revelation 21:9, are two quotes
from the Bible including the word bride , this bride referred to is the Church. When
we say it is the cross on which he is daily crucified, to me seems to be talking about
the Eucharist and mass. Everyday the

Lurking Behind The Shadows Of Ghosts
Lurking in the Shadows
When I was younger, I never really believed in ghosts, but this experience changed
my life. A long time ago, around the age of thirteen, I was in a lot of things that
caused me to be labeled as a troublemaker. It was so bad that one time (ironically
right before winter break) my parents thought it would be the best to come up with
the ultimate punishment for me. They decided to leave me at home for a week
while they were off on an extravagant vacation to the mountains. The first night
before they left, they gave me a list of chores to do. Now, in the back on my mind, I
was thinking how such a tuff guy like myself would not be doing any chores
because chores were for the weak and spineless. Once they walked out the door, I
began to make at least an attempt to actually read the list that was given to me, but
after reading over the list, which was rather long, I balled it up and threw it right
in the trash, not thinking about any of the consequences. I darted upstairs and
hopped straight on my Xbox where I remained for a few hours until things started
to get a little strange in the middle of the night. It s about one o clock in the
morning and I m having a blast playing on my Xbox, not regretting what I did with
the chore list my parents thought was ok to give me. In the past when I use to play
with my Xbox, I not only listen to the game very closely, but I also got a huge pair of
noise canceling headphones. They block out all sound, with the exception
Computer Generated Imagery And Its Effects
Computer generated imagery was being developed during the 1980s and it soon
started being used in films for effects. Rickitt (2006) explains that effects during the
80s were not just there to solve problems and producing impossible shots like their
initial purpose but used as a marketing tool for films to promote themselves based on
the quality of the image and amount of visual effectsinvolved. Star Wars was the first
filmto make use of this marketing tool and made people grow more interest on the
film itself as well as the effects and of course, this brought more income to the
studios. This trend of using effects to promote films was immediately picked up
and abused, but it did not last long. Tron (1982) was the first film based almost
entirely on computer generated scenery and massively advertised for them.
However it ended up failing at the box office even though it had superb computer
generated effects at the time of its release. Rickitt described that the failure of Tron
could have been what made visual effects take longer to develop and being
incorporated in films. This was the first sign that a film heavily equipped with effects
does not mean that it would make a hit. Narrative is an important element of a film
and effects cannot compensate for a bad narrative (McClean, 2007).
After a decade of slow development, computer generated imagery made its
appearance once more in Jurassic Park (1993) and changed the opinions directors and
studios regarding visual effects.
Essay about Censorship
Censorship
The freedom to read is essential to the democratic way of life. But today, that
freedom is under attack. Private groups and public authorities everywhere are
working to remove both books and periodicals from sale, to exclude certain books
from public schools, to censor and silence magazines and newspapers, and to limit
quot;controversial quot; books and periodicals to the general public. The suppression
of reading materials is suppression of creative thought. Books and periodicals are not
the only ones being suppressed by pressures to the political and social systems. They
are also being brought against the educational system, films, radio, television, and
against the graphic and theatre arts. However or whenever these ... Show more

There has been an increasing trend towards children s literature that reflects a more
realistic approach to the life both fiction and non fiction, with subjects that include
sex, homosexuality, divorce, child abuse, drugs, violence, etc. And they are these
realistic books that have people outraged. In school libraries, the most frequent
complaints come from parents about the school s selections.
And in public libraries, parents were once again the single greatest source of
challenges to materials.
The world is filled with quot;obscene quot; things. And it would seem that those
parents are just trying to protect their children from the outside world. But does it
really help? These day, an average elementary school student knows many things.
They are influenced by a wide range of sources, from television and other forms of
media, their environment at home and school, their personality and their background.
Why they read does not necessarily mean that they will follow.
Literature is a valued source of knowledge for these children, and should not be held
back. So rather than applying full censorship, it should be made an age related
censorship. Many of the complaints that were issued were of the immaturity of the
readers. And younger children should be prevented from borrowing material
intended for an older age group. Controversial materials should still be held either in
reserve stock, available on request, or under a section for parents and

STI Surveillance System Analysis Evaluation of the Summerville County STI Surveillance System Introduction An STI Surveillance report was recently completed for Summerville County and its subsequent cities, and now, an evaluation is necessary to examine how well the system operates to meet its purpose and objectives (Lee et al., 2010). Public health surveillance systems should be evaluated periodically, and recommendations for improving quality in the system will be provided (Lee et al., 2010). The purpose of evaluating public health surveillance systems is to ensure that problems of public health importance are being monitored efficiently and effectively (CDC, 2001). Results that are generated from surveillance systems are not always free of errors; therefore, an evaluation is essential to produce a high quality STI surveillance system for Chlamydia, Gonorrhea, HIV AIDS, and Syphilis programs. Evaluating these errors and shortcomings will allow for higher accuracy in results and will further lend a hand in disseminating findings in an efficient and timely fashion. The analysis being provided, as well as other reports, will drastically play a role in helping Summerville with the burden of STIs. It is important to assess the quality of the surveillance system in order to maintain relevant surveillance data, otherwise time, money, and effort will have gone to waste.
  • 5. Demand and Quantity Demanded Question 1 This article is talking about government has increased the sugar subsidy due to higher world prices, but not because of an impending general election. Government had no choice but must increase the sugar subsidy to prevent the rakyat from absorbing the higher cost. If sugar prices are increased, it will cost a domino effect on all good prices. Supply is defined as amount of producers willing and able to sell at a given price. There is a direct/ positive relationship between price and quantity supplied. Positive relationship means that the two variables changes in the same directly. This concept can apply in this article because when government increases the sugar subsidy, the cost production of sugar will decreases.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... At point A, the price of a coke is RM2.00 and the quantity demanded for it is 12,000. However at point C, when the price of the coke increased to RM6, the quantity demanded for the coke decreased 3 quarters compared with point A. When the price of the coke increased to RM8, there was no demand of coke in the economy. The price of the products affects the quantity demanded in the economy. As the price increase, quantity demanded in the economy declines and as the price decreases, quantity demanded for the product will increases. Other than changes in price affects the demand curve, the determinants of demand can cause the change in the demand curve shift to the right or to the left. [pic] Firstly, the income levels of consumers will affect the demand of normal goods and inferior goods in the economy. The relationships between income and demand of normal goods are directly proportional. As the income increases, demand for normal goods and inferior goods will increase from D to D2. And as the income decreases, demand for normal goods and inferior goods decrease from D to D1. A brand new car is an example of normal goods and a second hand car is an inferior goods. Secondly, substitute goods are the other determinants causing a shift in demand curve. Substitute goods are goods that can
  • 6. The Vampire, By Anne Rice For the majority of time since literary vampires were created, they were represented as monstrous creatures without souls whose sole purpose in literature was to kill and cause terror until they were ultimately destroyed. These literary vampires were slowly given more human characteristics, but it was Anne Rice who radically humanized the vampire, by creating the cultured vampire who, in some ways, represents an improved, superior human. In the Interview with the Vampire (1976), Anne Rice juxtaposed Louis de Pointe du Lac, a humanized, emotional, vampire, to other vampires in order to emphasize his cultured nature in a modern world lacking morality. Although Louis was a vampire for most of the novel, he represented humanity in an absolute yet rudimentary manner: through his struggle to find meaning in a world lost to modernity, which he, with his religious beliefs, believed had forsaken him. While Louis de Pointe du Lac, the protagonist of the Interview with the Vampire, seemed to be going constantly through a series of losses in the novel, he also made the best of the obstacles presented to him representing humanity by attempting to find happiness through his struggles. The first loss that Louis experienced his brother seemed to set the theme for the rest of his life. Paul, his brother, killed himself after Louis refused to believe that Paul s religious visions were real and; therefore, refused to sell the indigo plantations. Louis blamed himself for the death of

  • 8. Poverty and the Prevalence of Heart Disease Poverty and the Prevalence of Heart Disease Throughout the history of the United States, two things have always afflicted this great nation: inequality and disease. They have always had an effect on each other, as diseases have affected those from lower classes differently from those from upper classes. In our modern U.S. society, we face a specific disease, heart disease, which is now the leading cause of death in the United States and is part of a complex system of social problems (Center for Disease Control). The main social problem is the higher prevalence of heart disease among the poor than the non poor. This social problem has lead me to the following research question: in the United States, how is poverty associated with the prevalence of heart disease? To answer this question I will define heart disease, why it is an issue needing our attention, and whom it specifically affects. I will then delve into the many social mechanisms that facilitate this trend and show how they all work together to create an environment in which the poor are more likely to deal with heart disease than the non poor. The mechanisms involved are individual and institutional, meaning that they operate and would have to be addressed at either the individual or institutional level. The individual focused mechanisms include smoking, physical inactivity, obesity, factors from early in life, and mental factors. The institution focused ones include quality of healthcare and lack of access to

Hawthorne introduces Hester Prynne on the town scaffold, wearing her stamp of shame the Scarlet Letter and squashes her infant against her bosom in fear of her punishment for committing adultery. The infant, Pearl Prynne, flourishes into a stubborn, wild child whose clever and inquisitive nature exceeds any child her age. Pearl s response to the kiss exemplifies her inability to love; this destruction is caused by Dimmesdale s incompetence to claim being Pearl s father. This argument is supported from Hester receiving letters from Pearl; this shows the strong long distance relationship that Pearl and Hester maintain (293). Nevertheless, Pearl is left with no father image. If Dimmesdale truly cared about the relationship with his daughter, he would have fought to live instead of leaving Pearl, one again, abandoned by her

This does not necessarily seem problematic though because it strictly implies that the complete understanding of knowledge cannot be found within philosophy not that it cannot be found at all. It seems reasonable that the different disciplines of science that go past the realms of philosophy might very well be able to further our understanding of knowledge. The other downside of the externalism response the fact that it might do too much in the way that it opens the possibility that we might know things that we are unaware that we know does not seem to me be a very daunting one even though it does seem slightly counterintuitive. Religion s role in international politics also offers an intellectual challenge to academics of international relations and religion and politics (Warner and Walker, 2011). 9/11 attacks on World Trade Center and the Pentagon by Islamic extremists supported by Afghanistan, which was governed by an Islamic regime increased the interest in religionin international relations. In this essay, first the relationship between religion and international affairs will be put into context. Following that, the failure of the main international relations theories to acknowledge the key role of religion in foreign policywill be explained. What I will I argue is that religion s influence on foreign policy can be seen if three key areas are observed, which are: leaders beliefs, faith based organisations and public opinion. Another area which is a country s religious identity won t be explained separately because of the fact that it is closely linked to all of the above mentioned areas. Foreign policy is generally defined as the formal policies of a state which affect various military, economic, humanitarian, social and cultural dimensions of its relations with other states and non state actors (Warner and Walker, 2011). In fact, had we been so unfortunate as to crash into the side of the mountain that day in question, it would have been, in fact, a CFIT. One particular case of CFIT was caused by the crew not trusting their instruments. It took place in the United States, where an experienced crew of two pilots conducted a night flight from the West Coast. They took off into a very dark night, as there was very little ambient light from the moon or external lights. And a physiological effect of flying made the situation more risky. Thanks to his position at the very top of the social pyramid, Sherman McCoy lives a sheltered life and possesses no knowledge about those outside his very limited circle of influence. As a result, when confronted with a situation far outside his insulated world, he panics, resulting in the destruction of himself and others. Sherman s ridiculous belief that insulation is necessary for survival, his egoistic views as well as his greed are the very things that lead to the death of his insulated lifestyle. One of the very first things Wolfe points out about Sherman McCoy other than his ongoing affair is his tendency to only associate himself with certain people, which was mainly with people of high status. On his way to work, Sherman walks towards the taxies to take one to work. During the ride, he mentions being told that If you want to live in New York, ... you ve got to insulate ... meaning insulate yourself from those people [referring to the normal, non masterful breed of people] (54). Sherman s direct correlation to his father and how he still travels to work by the subway, even as the chief executive officerof Dunning Sponget Leach at the age of seventy one (54) shows the contrast between their lives and how Sherman views that living a life where he did not have to associate himself with those out of his breed (54) was essential for survival in New York City. Sherman getting lost during his drive with Maria from the airport is a prime example of his lack knowledge of New York outside of Manhattan. Deep into the Bronx, Sherman could no longer tell where he was going (83). His panic only makes it worse as he is unable to drive out the area and keeps driving in circles. This shows that his limited knowledge of the world around him are the root of his issues, since getting lost in the Bronx was the first step to his spiral down to despair. One of Sherman McCoy s chief flaws is his massive ego. This is shown throughout the book, where we see that he does not associate himself with anyone other than those he works with, and even then, does so with those on his
  • 26. Documented Congitive Biases For one there is a serious problem with the general reliability of the method, and of course the raters are under the influence of the several different, well documented cognitive biases (Murphy, 2008). Oddly this subjective method is often used even in situations where there are more objective criterions, like salesor turnover, available (Vinchur et al., 1998). Its weaknesses aside, supervisory ratings of individuals can indeed be meaningful under certain conditions, and there are situations where no other measures are available. Researchers has suggested that the method can be improved by using a carefully conducted job analysis as a foundation for the construction of the rating scales, and training for the observers conducting the ratings (Borman Smith, 2012). Objective measures, such as turnover, sales, absences or production rates are often considered as better measures of job performance. Sadly these criterions also have their weaknesses, at least to some extent. A recurrent problem with these measures is that of criterion contamination. Simply put, even if the criterion in question is of central importance to the employer such as sales, there can be several different reasons for the individuals specific value in the criterion, for example leadership and environmental issues which effects the compared employees differently. There are possible efforts to be made trying to limit these factors influence s on the results, with varying efficiency (Hammer Landau, 1981;

When we talk about wireless communication, the first word which comes to our mind is Wi Fi. It uses 2.4 5 GHz RF (radio frequency) to deliver internet access around a wide area. As more and more users are connected to the network, the rate of data transfer gets reduced. • 32. Cell Membrane And The Border Surrounding The Cell In an animal cell, plasma membrane is the border surrounding the cell that allows the passage of enough oxygen, nutrients, and wastes (98). Cytoplasm is region between the cell membrane and the nucleus, and that is where we find various types of organelles of specific form and their tasks (98). The nucleus is an information center that contains most of the genetic information (DNA) and it controls the activities by creating messenger RNA (mRNA) so it can instruct proteinsynthesis (102). The nucleus s outer layer is surrounded by nuclear envelope, which is a double membrane (inner and outer membrane (102). Furthermore, the nuclear envelope has pores that allow proteins, RNAs, etc. to enter or exit the nucleus (102). In other words, it is like a gate that controls passage area between the nucleus and cytoplasm. Moreover, within the nucleus there is another organellecalled nucleolus where the ribosomal RNA (rRNA) is synthesized (102). Ribosomes are complexes that are made of rRNA and proteins inside of nucleolus (102 103). They help synthesize proteins, meaning that it helps create proteins in a cell. There are two types of ribosomes: free ribosomes and bound ribosomes. Most of the proteins are made by free ribosomes that functions within the cytoplasm (102). Whereas bound ribosomes are attached to the endoplasmic reticulum in order to make proteins that will go into the membrane, sent within certain organelles, or export of the cell (102 104). The Opening Line Of The Middle Of Things In the opening chapter of Anna Karenina, Leo Tolstoy uses the technique of in medias res, which translates from Latin to in the middle of things , to establish the central themes of his novel. The opening line of the book serves as somewhat of a thesis statement for the seven hundred pages that follow that is, Tolstoy asserts the unique nature of unhappy families to preface a book about several strained familial relationships. Tolstoy uses luxurious diction to demonstrate Stiva s lifestyle, referencing his morocco leather covered sofa and his plump, well kept body . At the point the reader is introduced to Stiva, he has had a sudden awakening. The authorial voice then switches from that of an omniscient third person to the conscious thoughts of Stiva Oblonsky. In this manner, the paragraph is very similar to the stream of consciousness style that would become so important during early twentieth century literary movements. In doing this, Tolstoy both allows us the same incomplete impression of Stiva s dream that Stiva has, and ties the dream with the light, surreal sentiment it evokes in Stiva. This technique also plays with the themes of memory and perception that were so integral to Tolstoy s early works. The dream features a party with fantastic imagery of singing glass tables and little decanters that [are] also women . This fantasy party is set in America, about as far from Petersburg as possible, which points to a pervading tendency for escapism in the Russian nobility at this time of social upheaval. Indeed, at several points in the novel, characters flee Russia when met with adversity, as when Kitty gets sick and Anna reconnects with Vronsky.

Aristotle defines a tragic hero to be a man who is not completely good and just, whose misfortune is brought out not by vice or immorality, but by some error or weakness. The three key requirements of Aristotle in regards to a tragic heroare; a high social standing, goodness or moral excellence, or error committed by the hero in unawareness or ignorance. Two quality examples of men that portray Aristotle s idea of a tragic hero, and who also fit the three main requirements are Oedipus Rex and Willy Loman. Oedipus Rex clearly and without a doubt answers to each of the three requirements laid out by Aristotle is regards to a tragic hero. He is a man of social reputation, and possesses exceptional qualities, but is in no means perfect. It is safe to say that Oedipus hamartia is the cause of his own downfall. Willy Loman on the other hand is also considered to be a tragic hero. Like Oedipus, Willy goes through his life, for the most part, blindly, and never really realizes the complete truth of himself. Through his delusional personality, and his continual blindness, Willy s hamartia is also the main cause of his downfall, where in his case, leads to his death. The author points out that, thus far, humans have only acted ethically towards one another. However, he believes that it is time for humans also to start to treat the environment with the same respect and dignity that we have for the members of our own species. The author states that he is aware that we cannot entirely prevent utilizing natureas a resource and a commodity. Nonetheless, he concludes that humans should have the responsibility to take care of the environment and to assure its continued existence. Leopold does not believe that humans are the inferior species, the conquerors of the land as he puts it. Instead, he argues, humans are just plain citizens who simply share the planet with millions of other species and who are a part of an intricate and sophisticated system that makes life possible for all living beings. Nonetheless, he believes that in order for people to realize this, and for them to recognize nature as valuable and worth loving, they must be able to envision it as a tangible object. To make this possible, Leopold creates the idea of The Land Pyramid, whose purpose is to create a mental image of the environment as a complex biotic mechanism. A long time ago, around the age of thirteen, I was in a lot of things that caused me to be labeled as a troublemaker. It was so bad that one time (ironically right before winter break) my parents thought it would be the best to come up with the ultimate punishment for me. They decided to leave me at home for a week while they were off on an extravagant vacation to the mountains. The first night before they left, they gave me a list of chores to do. Now, in the back on my mind, I was thinking how such a tuff guy like myself would not be doing any chores because chores were for the weak and spineless. Once they walked out the door, I began to make at least an attempt to actually read the list that was given to me, but after reading over the list, which was rather long, I balled it up and threw it right in the trash, not thinking about any of the consequences. I darted upstairs and hopped straight on my Xbox where I remained for a few hours until things started to get a little strange in the middle of the night. It s about one o clock in the morning and I m having a blast playing on my Xbox, not regretting what I did with the chore list my parents thought was ok to give me. In the past when I use to play with my Xbox, I not only listen to the game very closely, but I also got a huge pair of noise canceling headphones. They block out all sound, with the exception
  • 49. Computer Generated Imagery And Its Effects Computer generated imagery was being developed during the 1980s and it soon started being used in films for effects. Rickitt (2006) explains that effects during the 80s were not just there to solve problems and producing impossible shots like their initial purpose but used as a marketing tool for films to promote themselves based on the quality of the image and amount of visual effectsinvolved. Star Wars was the first filmto make use of this marketing tool and made people grow more interest on the film itself as well as the effects and of course, this brought more income to the studios. This trend of using effects to promote films was immediately picked up and abused, but it did not last long. Tron (1982) was the first film based almost entirely on computer generated scenery and massively advertised for them. However it ended up failing at the box office even though it had superb computer generated effects at the time of its release. Rickitt described that the failure of Tron could have been what made visual effects take longer to develop and being incorporated in films. This was the first sign that a film heavily equipped with effects does not mean that it would make a hit. Narrative is an important element of a film and effects cannot compensate for a bad narrative (McClean, 2007). After a decade of slow development, computer generated imagery made its appearance once more in Jurassic Park (1993) and changed the opinions directors and studios regarding visual effects.
  • 50. Essay about Censorship Censorship The freedom to read is essential to the democratic way of life. But today, that freedom is under attack. Private groups and public authorities everywhere are working to remove both books and periodicals from sale, to exclude certain books from public schools, to censor and silence magazines and newspapers, and to limit quot;controversial quot; books and periodicals to the general public. The suppression of reading materials is suppression of creative thought. Books and periodicals are not the only ones being suppressed by pressures to the political and social systems. They are also being brought against the educational system, films, radio, television, and against the graphic and theatre arts. However or whenever these ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... There has been an increasing trend towards children s literature that reflects a more realistic approach to the life both fiction and non fiction, with subjects that include sex, homosexuality, divorce, child abuse, drugs, violence, etc. And they are these realistic books that have people outraged. In school libraries, the most frequent complaints come from parents about the school s selections. And in public libraries, parents were once again the single greatest source of challenges to materials. The world is filled with quot;obscene quot; things. And it would seem that those parents are just trying to protect their children from the outside world. But does it really help? These day, an average elementary school student knows many things. They are influenced by a wide range of sources, from television and other forms of media, their environment at home and school, their personality and their background. Why they read does not necessarily mean that they will follow. Literature is a valued source of knowledge for these children, and should not be held back. So rather than applying full censorship, it should be made an age related censorship. Many of the complaints that were issued were of the immaturity of the readers. And younger children should be prevented from borrowing material intended for an older age group. Controversial materials should still be held either in reserve stock, available on request, or under a section for parents and
