What Is Competition Bike Vertical Analysis
The financial analysis of a business organization involves the complete assessment of the liquidity,
profitability, competitiveness and stability of the business. The process is done through using the
financial statements of the business. The financial reports are generally presented to top management
for purposes of decision making and setting up goals.
Analyzing Competition Bikes Inc. s financial status requires evaluating its internal operations
reflecting the horizontal, vertical, ratio, and trend analysis, as well as its working capital. These
reviews provide profit margins allowing for projecting any necessary budget restraints in overhead
costs and sales potential. Yearly production performance comparisons, based on overhead ... Show

Because the loss in years seven and eight was less than the gain in years six and seven, the company
nearly broke even in years seven and eight, from the totals of years six and seven (Shim, J. and Siegel,

Vertical Analysis
The vertical analysis involves exploration of the balance sheet statement and shows each component
as a percentage of the total assets. The vertical analysis of the income statement explores the
proportion of the income statement variables to the total sales. The analysis helps show the financial
performance of a business with time.
Year six

Year eight
Total assets = $4,316,817

vertical analysis of Competition Bikes, Inc. measures assets, liabilities, and equities. With the vertical
analysis of overall operating expenses fluctuating little over the three year period, this indicates a
strong internal control, allowing for little depreciation of the company based on operating costs,
versus sales.

Joseph Campbell s The Hero With A Thousand Faces
During Joseph Campbell s, The Hero With A Thousand Faces , he explains a process. This process is
the psychological journey that each and every one of us, can go through. It opens doors to new
opportunities and advancements. There are many trials, and conflicts the hero must face. The journey
ahead sometimes gets easier, but also difficult. I will be explaining how Joseph Campbell illustrates
the argument that his story makes a compelling argument when it comes to stating a person goes
through trials, and a life changing experience.

Differences Between Freak The Mighty
The novel, Freak the Mighty, and the movie, The Mighty, have many things in common, but also have
several differences. The first similarity is that in both the text and movie, Max first puts Freak on his
shoulders at the fireworks. He does this because Freak complains that he can t see anything, so Max
picks him up without thinking and places his on his shoulders. As a result, Max carries Freak around
on his shoulders everywhere. Another common scene between both the novel and the film is when
Freak tells Max he ll get a bionic body. When the two reach the New Testaments on a walk, Freak
points to a building and says he s getting his measurements for a bionic body. He swears he s telling
the truth, but it turns out he wasn t Freak would instead die. One final similarity is Loretta s
inspirational quote, which brought Max back up from the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Max realized who this was in a scene only present in the book, when Kevin held up his crutch and
yelled, Identify yourself, human! . In the movie, Freak and Max first see each other over the fence
when Freak is playing with the ornithopter where they don t even interact, and finally meet in gym
class. Another difference was how Loretta Lee acted once Max and Freak returned her wallet. In the
book, she got angry and accused them of stealing it, but stopped yelling once she inspected Max and
saw how much he resembled Killer Kane. However, in the movie Loretta thanked them and told them
how nice young gentlemen they were, but was surprised realized who Max was. Also, in the book
Max is told Freak died at the hospital, by Dr. Spivak after Max said that Freak told him he was getting
a bionic body. Dr. Spivak then told him that Kevin knew he would die at a young age. In the movie,
Max races up to an ambulance and bangs on the doors until Gwen comes out of the ambulance and

Comparing the Teotihucans and the Sumerians Essay
Comparing the Teotihucans and the Sumerians
Written language was an important milestone in human history. It enabled the recording of history,
dreams and tragedy. It allowed for commercial and historical record keeping. It allowed human beings
to imprint thoughts on paper, for sharing, later review or just for fun. What about societies that never
developed a written language? Could such a society rival one with that has? When advances of
Sumerian city states are compared to that of Teotihuacan there are a few instances where the
Mesoamerican city appears to be more advanced. However, if ranked these appearances do not place
Teotihuacan ahead of any one of Sumer s Mesopotamian city states.
The formations of Sumerian city states ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Within these huge stepped cities within cities (49). an entire workforce was busy with the affairs of
civilization (49). Field workers would farm temple lands to provide for the massive amounts of food
that was distributed. In Lagash for example, food was prepared for 1200 people on a daily basis (49).
Though the Pyramids of the Sun and Moon in Teotihuacan were not as elaborate as Sumerian
Ziggurats, each civilization shared a Cosmo magical characteristic.
In Sumer, royal burial sites were so elaborate, that only specialized artisans could possibly have
constructed them. According to the text, arches, vaults and domes were new levels of architecture
found in burial tombs of the elite. In addition, elaborate funeral objects of gold and silver were also
found with the dead. Sumerian arts and inventions flourished. The wheel itself, which led to the
potters wheel and wagon wheels, were apparently invented in Sumer. (49). This lent sophistication to
pottery and increased efficiency to farming. The Bronze Age found its origins in Sumerian
civilization, which put metal tips on hoes, axes, arrowheads, daggers and many other tools. In
Teotihuacan however, the economy thrived on agriculture, craftwork, and trade in ceramics and
quarried obsidian. (98) There was no evidence in the text or lecture notes that they had achieved the
amenities of the Bronze age.

Anthropogenic Effects Of Human Environment And Society
ENVIRONMENT AND SOCIETY
I will be talking about the anthropogenic effects of human activity on the environment as the part of
society .Human impact on the environment or anthropogenic impact on the environment includes
impacts on biophysical environments, biodiversity, and other resources. The term anthropogenic
designates an effect or object resulting from human activity. The term was first used in the technical
sense by Russian geologist Alexey Pavlov, and was first used in English by British ecologist Arthur
Tansley in reference to human influences on climax plant communities. The atmospheric scientist Paul
Crutzen introduced the term Anthropocene in the mid 1970s. The term is sometimes used in the
context of pollution emissions that are produced as a result of human activities but applies broadly to
all major human impacts on the environment . Understanding of the reciprocal relationships between
social and environmental processes. Environmental geographers are concerned with how human
beings use the earth and how humans impact the environments in which they live.
Because humans both affect and are affected by their environment, the social and behavioral sciences
have important insights to contribute to questions about environmental decision making and
management of national resources. We need to explore the issues such as how public participation
affects the quality of environmental decisions, how the federal government can communicate
effectively about climate

My Plan Of Attack At Virgin
Sometimes it feels like you have to be a sociopath in order to win or be promoted. I have to say that I
really did feel like I was constantly juggling the way I was perceived at all times and I still am. My
biggest tool was Laura. Laura was the one who took me under her wing and gave me advice on how to
grow and become the leader I needed to be in order to be a supervisor.
I began to ask all the leaders the same questions in different scenarios so it didn t seem weird that I
asked them all the same questions. The cool part of this was that I was able to collect all the various
perspectives on the same type of scenario and sort of compare notes. I figured out that the managers

She asked me what my goals were and how I planned to accomplish them etc.....She then began to ask
me various questions about how I would feel about becoming a supervisor and what I thought the
other teammates would think. I believed that I answered all of the questions well.
A week later the job position was posted on in the teammate lounge. There were quite a few people
interested in the position. The talk began spreading throughout the hotel. So I did what any good
candidate would do and asked people questions. A lot of questions. This allowed me to really sort out
who the real contenders were and how I could be better. I realized the people who were very forward
and loud about wanting the position lost track of how they were being perceived by their superiors.
Most of them didn t even get selected for the first round of interviews. This means being confident yet
reserved was a huge factor they were looking for.
Two weeks later a huge hole was blown into my plan of attack. Emina my manager who seemed to be
my second closest ally called me as I was walking home one day. She said, Devric, I m going to tell
you something that only a few people know the moment . In my head, I was thinking the best and the
worst. Hurray, Devric we have decided to just give you the supervisor position or unfortunately Devric
we are going to have to let you go. My heart started pounding. Emina says, Devric, They fired Laura.

Analysis Of Too Big For Broadway
Kander and Ebb took a great risk in using the framework of a minstrel show to tell the story in their
musical The Scottsboro Boys. Various sources argue that the use of the minstrel show in Kander and
Ebb s The Scottsboro Boys hinders the audiences experience and undermines the importance of this
trial. This argument is one of many and goes to show that Kander and Ebb took many risks in using
the minstrel show to tell the story of the Scottsboro Boys. Other sources argue that the humor and
stereotypes of the minstrel show perpetuate the boys lack of individuality. In the article, Too big for
Broadway?: The limits of historical and theatrical empathy in Parade and The Scottsboro Boys, it is
argued that this lack of characterization makes it feel as though the Boys are being victimized, not by
American racism, but by Kander and Ebb (Stahl 76). With all of the dangers involved in the use of this
racist form, it is understandable how the intention of the minstrel show can be misconstrued. Kander
and Ebb incorporate many aspects of the minstrel show such as comedy and stereotyping to create a
contrast with the moments when the characters rebel against the minstrel show. The SpeakEasy Stage
Company portrays the contrast of these moments impeccably. This production of The Scottsboro Boys
validates that when done well, the minstrel elements are very effective in creating tension between the
horrible truths of the trial and with the pleads for freedom by the characters. This

Fifth Business Character Analysis
Fifth Business is the first book of Robertson Davies Deptford Trilogy. The novel is a memoir of
Dunstable Ramsay, the protagonist, in the form of a letter to the school s headmaster. Many characters
play a huge significant role in Dunstable s life as he develops, however, many of those people are
women. Leading examples of this are Fiona Ramsay, his mother; Mary Dempster, the woman who
changed his life; Diana Marfleet, his nurse and meaningful love; and Liselotte Vitzliputzli, his source
of therapy and inspiration. Dunstable s mother is someone who is a salient part of his development,
and shapes him into the person he is later on in the novel. She is determined, strict, controlling, and

She is a source to the development of Dunstable for a couple of reasons. A link emerges between
Dunstable Ramsay and Mary when she is hit in the head with a snowball thrown by Percy Boyd
Staunton, which was intended for Dunstable. The snowball that hit Mary causes her to go into labour,
and she gives birth to her premature baby, Paul Dempster. Dunstable is forever filled with guilt
although he had no control whatsoever when the incident occurred. This guilt eventually leads to
Dunstable developing feelings for Mary Dempster, even though she is ten years older than him. His
loyalty for Mary Dempster is at the same degree as his mother, or perhaps more. When Dunstable is at
the Third Battle of Ypres, he loses his leg after he takes down German snipers. While Dunstable lies
down wounded, he sees Mary Dempster s face on the statue of The Little Madonna. But what hit me
worse than the blow of shrapnel was that the face was Mrs. Dempster s face . (Davies, 74) Almost half
a year after, he wakes up from a coma in a hospital where he meets his nurse, Diana Marfleet. He
recollects what happened during the war and becomes a hagiographer. This is a significant facet of the
person that he grows to be. Furthermore, when Mary Dempster s illness aggravates, aunt Bertha who
was taking good care of her passes away. Aunt Bertha hands Mary s fortune to Dunstable, and he must

One day I could be in a small health center in Maguindanao, teaching barangay health workers how to

The work is challenging, exciting, occasionally surreal, yet intensely gratifying in reaching the most
vulnerable Filipino children. It also allows me to continuously learn and develop, while helping me
achieve my personal goal, which is to make a lasting difference in the lives of my countrymen.
Our gratitude
Again, I would like to express my heartfelt thanks to you, our donors and supporters.
I have personally experienced how your support has translated into life saving interventions and
programs for the most vulnerable children and their families.
We have achieved a lot, but there is still much to be done, as we face challenges both old and new.
With the support of people like you, we will continue to give more children in need the chance to live
and grow normally, study, play, laugh, and experience the joys of childhood, far from dangers or
threats.

Iago s Jealousy In Othello, The Moor Of Venice
Othello is one of William Shakespeare s most famous dramas. Othello is called a tragedy and has been
a popular play throughout the history of literature and drama. The non shortened original title of this
play is The Tragedy of Othello, The Moor of Venice. There are several key points of analysis that can
be found when reading Othello. These include specific themes, irony, symbolism, and tone. Each of
these devices add to the overall meanings in a specific way, Shakespeare placed them within the play
for the reader to understand. The prominent theme in Othello is jealousy. It s a theme that is present
throughout the entire play. Iago, who the main villain of the play, is jealous of Othello and the power
he has. Iago s jealousy is what leads to the conflict later into the play. In the beginning, Iago expresses
his hate for Othello, One Micheal Cassio, a Florentine....As masterly as he: mere prattle, without
practice in all his soldiership. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In Shakespeare s time, this was not widely viewed as acceptable and this is why it causes conflict in
the play. Even though Othello has a high position of power and is highly respected, his race is always
brought into the picture and never seems to be forgotten. The tone of Othello is mostly bitter. This is
mainly due to Iago s conflict throughout. He influences the other characters, especially Othello, and
causes them to become bitter as well. Each character is emotionally affected by Iago and his ability to
get inside each individual mind. For example, Othello is overcome with emotions from his heartbreak
when finding out that Desdemona has been seeing Cassio that he kills Desdemona and later himself.
He also stabs Iago when he finds out all of the lies that he has told. The irrational emotions and actions
that follow make the ton depressing as

Pharmacy Service Improvement at CVS
Rhiannon Graham

Redesign the Pharmacy Service Process at CVS Customer Value Store (CVS) is one of the largest
retail drugstores in the United States. CVS has over 4,000 stores and generated revenue of 24.2 billion
dollars in 2002. CVS grew at the same rate as other major pharmacy chains, but continued to lose
millions of customers due to service issues. These problems led to the implementation of the
Pharmacy Service Initiative (PSI). In observations of various stores, as well as interviews with
employees, 67 major problems were identified. The steps in the service process include drop off, data
entry, production (prescription fulfillment), quality assurance, waiting for pickup, and ... Show more

Following data entry is the production or fulfillment step. This is the step where pharmacists actually
fill the prescriptions. The major problem encountered in this step is not having sufficient inventory to
fill a prescription. This can be frustrating for the pharmacist and the customer. A possible solution to
this problem is to fill the prescription in part; enough to get the customer started on their medication,
and then when new shipment arrives fill the remaining portion of the prescription. This would require
an entry to the customer s record so that employees know the prescription was only partially filled.
Also in order to implement this process, we would need our suppliers to expedite shipping of our
restock orders. As a market leader, CVS should have no problem in getting its suppliers to work with
them. Perhaps the most critical step in the process occurs after the fulfillment step. This is the quality
assurance step (QA). This is where the pharmacists review the prescription to make sure the correct
medication/dosages have been used in filling the prescription. This step, though time consuming, is
critical, and there are no changes that should be applied to this step because of the extremely low
margin for error. The last step in the process is the pickup. This step is most likely the most frustrating
one for customers, because often when they come to pick up their prescriptions they are not ready yet.
Much of this

Analysis Of Literary Analysis In Ulysses By Lord Alfred...
Literature and poetry in particular have the potential to make profound impressions on their readers. In
the poem Ulysses by Lord Alfred Tennyson, the speaker Ulysses argues for his mariners to come back
out to sea. Karen Prior s article How Reading Makes Us More Human argues how reading makes one
more human. On the other hand, Tennyson makes his argument through Ulysses, as he talks to his
mariners while Prior makes her argument to teachers of higher of education. While Tennyson and
Prior both use rhetorical situations to persuade their audiences, Prior connects to her audience better
by citing compelling and exhaustive research, eliciting sympathy from her audience through her
narrative voice, and establishing her credibility by using personal examples and research. Prior s uses
captivating evidence in her article in order to persuade the audience that reading makes one more
human. For example, Prior takes research from psychologists from York University and University of
Toronto which states [people] who read fiction appear to be better able to understand other people,
empathize with them and view the world from their perspective (para. 2). With the use of notable
research, the reader starts to question if reading does make one more human. Prior then goes on to use
research done by the director of the Center for Reading and Language Research. The director
Maryanne Wolf states, the fragility of the brain s ability to read with the kind of sustained attention

Is Sociology a Science
The study of sociology cannot and should not be seen as scientific
To what extent do sociological arguments and evidence support this view? (33 marks)
The debate about whether sociology can be represented as a science has existed for many years.
Comte; who first used the word sociology argued that sociology should be based on the methodology
of the natural sciences. He argues that the application of natural science methodology to the study of
society would produce a positive science of society , showing that behaviour in the social world is
governed by laws in the same way as behaviour in the natural world. He saw sociology as the queen of
sciences and considered it the last and most complex form of sociology to develop. ... Show more

Durkheim claims to have discovered a real law, that different levels of integration produce different
suicide rates. He claimed to have demonstrated that sociology had its own unique subject matter,
social facts, and they can be explained scientifically. Therefore positivists disagree with the statement
that the study of sociology cannot and should not be a science.
Michael Phillipson observes the positivist methodology employed by Durkheim and other researches
ride roughshod over the very social reality they are trying to comprehend. He argues that suicide is a
construct of social actors, an aspect of social reality. Official statistics on suicide are therefore not
wrong or inaccurate; they are part of the social world. They are interpretations made by official of
what is seen to be unnatural death.
Popper is different to positivists as he denies the possibility of creating laws or predictions that are
true for all time. He argues much of sociology is unscientific because it consists of theories that can t
be put to the test with the possibility; they can t be falsified. Popper believes sociology can be
scientific as it can produce theories that in principle can be falsified. He argues that no hypothesis can
be proven to be true as there is always a possibility of some future exception. However a hypothesis
can be easily proven false as just one observation to the contrary of it can disapprove it. Popper argues
that the aim of

Introduction The Dell Computer Corporation was founded in 1984 by Michael Dell, who began the
company by refurbishing IBM clones out of his dorm room for extra money. From the beginning and
through the 1990 s, the company grew quickly and was very successful. Dell used a cost leadership
strategy and focus on creating products that were already in the market place, but changed the timing
of production and the method of distribution that was in place with the company s competitors by

been a drastic move in cultural perspective since the new millennium. The gogreen culture has become
a dominating force. The metro movement moves in a parallel to this as well. The majority rule now
appears to be a young, urban, environmentally conscious, culturally sensitive populace. Dell had a
primary focus on keeping a fact based relationship with their clients. The case clarifies that this
allowed them to treat their clients fairly. They even kept a very clean cut and dry model in the
corporate setting. This is a very efficient and productive way to guide business. This model can,
however, fall victim to the metaphor of the double edged sword. Being so cut and dry tends to give
you the appearance of a faceless corporation. In a revolution of go green and corporate compassion,
the face your corporation wears is its lifeblood. Dell had no focus on retail stores. They knew that the
profits were coming from the larger customers. As mentioned in the case it is hard to increase the
awareness of the product when it is not often seen in the retail world. How is the general public to
view your corporate face if they are unable to see it? Dell was careful to diversify their product line;
however they were not diversified in the distribution of the products.

Studying Moral Philosophy
Every person at least once in his life felt that he has done something wrong or even immoral, and was
encouraged to change his behavior. Even as a child many of us were constantly told: Think about your
behavior! This reminder helps realize that one of the most powerful determinants of human behavior
stems from our need to justify our actions. This feeling of discomfort caused by performing a certain
action is called cognitive dissonance. However, sometimes justification of our actions, caused by
cognitive dissonance, leads to the thought: Who decided what is right or wrong? or in other words:
What and where is the perfect example of living a moral life? Studying moral philosophy shows us
that people hold different worldviews that contain different models of moral justification. Based on
the analysis of two philosophies, naturalism and theism, this paper argues that theism provides a better
framework for making sense of morality and living a moral live, because it has more explanatory
power regarding the notion of free will that people have. Naturalism mainly is though as a type of
scientism, which implies that only things recognized by scientists as real are real. Although, there are
many naturalists who hold this particular view, it is not the necessary feature of naturalism. Basically,
naturalism can be divided into two components: metaphysical and methodological. The first one is
often referred as philosophical naturalism and it is the one covered in this

A researcher on the CareGroup network was experimenting with a Napster like file sharing application
that would locate and copy information across the network. His wife suddenly went into labor which
required him to go on paternity leave for three weeks. During this time, the researcher accidently left
his new untested application running. By the afternoon of Novemeber 13th 2002, the uncontrolled
software program began wreaking havoc in the CareGroup network. In short and simply put, the
network collapse was caused by network switches being overloaded and jammed with an overflow of
data to the point where soon every software application that required network ... Show more content

Adapt to externalities.
Externalities cannot be prevented and must always be assumed to exist. And yet, Halamka and his IT
group failed to keep their network up to spec as a result of mergers, reorganizations, and other external
activates. With this valuable lesson learned, Halamka and his team will not let the evolving external
factors be the brunt of failure.
#7. There are limits to customer centric responsiveness
Just because a customer desires certain functionality or a service from the network, does not
necessarily mean it s feasible or good for the entire network health. Halamka learned that he will be
selective in the future and have Cisco evaluate and test whether or not new implementations will
negatively impact the network.
#8. Have backup procedure in which you can have confidence.
The all paper system worked well and sustained the CareGroup during the computing downtime
period but only because they had a backup system in place prior to the problem occurring. In
preparation for a Y2K event, the IT group had prepared the entire enterprise to run on paper as a
backup plan.
#9. Component redundancy is not enough; you need alternative access

The Black Panther Party In The 1950 s
The time of the 1950s through 60s has globally been an era of civil rights and an era of an
organization that had gripped the nation. The beginning of the Black Panther Party was a
revolutionary organization for the black community to stand up for their rights and needs as a bond
between blacks. Police would beat down on african americans during this time of late 1950s through
the 60s. The organization had the goal of exposing the police force s abuse of authority through any
means necessary. The parent ideology of the Black Panther Party comes from the beliefs of Malcolm
X where he encouraged to complete freedom, justice and equality by any means necessary. His
promotion for equality emphasized the aspect of self defense out of the negative connotation of the
use of violence. In Malcolm s words, It doesn t mean that I advocate violence, but at the same time, I
am not against using violence in self defense. I don t call it violence when it s self defense, I call it
intelligence. The Black Panther Party outlook about self defense was incorporated through their legal
means of observing the police to protect their community from the uncontrolled abuses of power. ...

Police brutality during this time of late 1950s through the 60s was terrifyingly existent. As a result of
these frightening events, the ultimate goal of the organization was to expose police brutality, which
ultimately gave the group a positive reputation, in addition to the Black Panthers cautious, initial
actions that remained within the law. However, throughout the party s course, its reputation soured
until their dishonorable end. The tactics of the party were promising in its early stages, but were not

The Rope Course At The Ropes Course
When starting the ropes course I think we were all a little nervous, not just about heights or different
challenges, but figuring each other out. People walk around on nails for a while till they feel they
know someone good enough to open up, this activity sped that process up a quite a bit. Different
people take on different roles and I think this made some stand up to show their leadership and others
show how they follow. This is a good way to sum up how people will act in working groups as well
and gave us a further understanding of what we should expect from our teams. The ropes course was a
good exercise to have fun and open up to each other. I know that I am usually quiet at first but if I am
given a hands on activity I feel I can be more of myself and interact at a greater level. One of the first
concepts I wanted to talk about was how to communicate effectively at work . When reading this we
learned that you needed to get to the point and say your central idea, just get it out there and see what
people think, it may be good or bad but you won t know till you speak up. When working on the low
coarse tight wire we were able to finally group up and say what worked and what didn t. It was
difficult when you wanted to just try it on your own, but had the rule of three point contact. So instead
of trying to figure it out alone, we eventually decided to give everyone a voice and weigh our options
about what to do next. I think once we got everyone on the same page we were

On Different Values of Individualism in Chinese and American Cultures
1. Introduction Everyone, every social class and every country have their own unique values. It is the
fact that value is the core of cross culture communication and the differences of culture among
countries depend on different values. Value exerts great influence on everyone s daily life. Scores of
people rely on value to obtain knowledge, master the basic skills and foster correct world outlook.
China and America are two opposite countries in terms of different values. It exists in many different
fields in China and America such as politics, literature and family structure. The essence of these
differences actually reflects the cultural differences. The word ... Show more content on

Tocqueville thought that individualism could be associated with individual value, dignity, happiness,
interests and freedom. At the same time, he endowed it into relatively complete theoretical
connotations (Alexis de Tocqueville, 1988). Firstly, it emphasizes the ultimate purpose is for
individual interests. Society is just a tool that serves people. Secondly, it stresses on individual
freedom and democracy. Thirdly, it points out from personal view the rightness of privatization of
property. American historian Commager thought that individualism eventually became the synonym
of Americanism (1988). In the Longman Dictionary of Contemporary English of the 1997 edition,
individualism is defined as two concepts. One is the belief that the rights and freedom of individual
people are the most important rights in a society. The other is the behavior or attitude of someone who
does things in their own way without being influenced by other people. On the contrary, individualism
is defined as pejorative connotation in The Contemporary Chinese Dictionary (2005). It points out that
individualism means some people who just care about their own interests instead of collective
interests, which is not a right idea. By the analysis of the definition of individualism it s clear that the
pattern of Chinese culture stresses people s inner world and embodies in

Multiple Characters In Anna Karenina By Lev Tolstoy
In Anna Karenina, Lev Tolstoy describes multiple characters in depth and gives the readers the
opportunity to create and change their opinions about most of them as the plot develops. The novel
begins with a rather striking quote, taken from Romans 12:19: Vengeance is mine, I will repay
(Tolstoy XXV). This sentence s meaning in it s biblical context and full length, is that it is not up to
people to punish others for their wrong doings, but that God will eventually take revenge and repay
them, for it is his right and duty to do so. Focusing on the meaning of this excerpt, I believe that it is
connected to the outcomes of Anna and Vronsky s affair, but also to that of the life of Dolly
Oblonskaya and her husband, as well as other characters . In this paper I will support my interpretation
of the reasons why I believe that despite the fact that Anna Karenina appears to suffer the
consequences of her love affair with Alexei Vronsky because she is a woman more than her brother
Stepan Oblonsky, the faith that the author assigns to her with allusions since the beginning of the
book, is connected to the fact that cheating is fundamentally wrong according to Tolstoy s perspective,
and that her punishment is a consequence of the above mentioned quotation. To sustain my
understanding of this theme I will make a comparison between Anna and some of the other main
characters who are involved in a romantic relationship or, as in Dolly s case, stuck in an unhappy
marriage.

Differences and Similarities between the Civil and Common...
Nowadays every legal system wants to achieve justice. Different legal traditions in the world have
given a different meaning of this concept by following one of the two legal systems: a civil law
system and a common law system. The civil law system emerged from Roman law and throughout
many centuries has been developed in continental Europe and often is called a continental legal
system , achieving its prominence through development of aqui communitare in Europe. The common
law system emerged in England during the Anglo Saxon period and was developed by British
colonies, reaching its peak in the United Kingdom and the United States of America.

In an adversary system the judge and jury as decision makers have a passive role in investigating and
gathering evidence and are responsible solely in deciding the case. In contrast, in an inquisitorial
system the judge holds a very active role in the process, by choosing which evidence to accept and
applying the law to the evidence in deciding the case. Supporters of the adversary system consider this
feature as an advantage because they believe that the justice is best achieved where the decision maker
is neutral, passive and impartial in deciding the case.
Distinction of roles between judges and juries is a further fundamental difference between the
adversarial and inquisitorial systems. In an adversarial system, there is a division of work between a
judge and jury. The role of the judge is to adjudicate the issue of law and to ensure that the trial
proceeds comply with the procedural and substantial laws, while the role of the jury is to adjudicate
the issue of facts as served by the opposing parties based on the law given by judges. Generally, a
judge will not interfere in jury s decision making, but this approach varies subject to matters being
decided in the criminal or civil cases. In civil cases, a judge has a power to set aside a decision taken
by jury if such decision was not made in accordance with the applicable law. However, in criminal
cases a judge does not

Equipment Review of the Vertec and Bertec
Equipment Review
The equipment in this study includes a Vertec vertical jump measuring system (Figure 1) and a Bertec
force plate (Figure 2). The Vertec vertical jump measuring system measures individuals vertical jump
capabilities in inches. The Bertec force plate measures the ground reaction forces in newtons produced
when an individual performs a jump and when they land following a jump. The Vertec vertical jump
measuring system is constructed out of a steel frame and has horizontal vanes that rotate when the
hand touches them. The vanes spaced half inch between and the height of the vanes is adjustable from
6 feet to 12 feet tall. The Vertec vertical jump measuring system is considered the gold standard for
measuring vertical jump height and its measurements have been found reliable.1 The Bertec force
plate is a much more complicated device. It uses strain gauges to measure the force applied to the
force plate. The force applied to the plate by the subject will be equal to the forces the plate applies to
the subject as determined by Newton s third law. When the strain gauge is compressed the resistance
of the current running through the gauge decreases however when the strain gauge is placed under
tension the resistance of the current traveling through it increases. The Bertec force plate measures
forces applied to the device in the x, y and z axis using strain gauges. The strain gauges produce
signals when force is applied to the force plate surface, which are

According To A Century Of Women Chapter 1 Summary
In twenty century, women become more independent in the society. According to A Century of
Women, Deborah Felder analyzes the history of women have their own rights through history. The
book talks about the suffrage and events in women history. The book divides each chapter decades by
decades basis, which gives clear information to readers to understand the events from the history. I
chose 1917 through 1920, because those are the time when women started to have their right to vote.
In 1917 to 1918, there was World War I, and the chapter talks how women became important to the
world. In 1919, the chapter tells about how the formation of organization of women voters was

Corruption In Animal Farm
Ted Nugent said, The government is so out of control. It is so bloated and infested with fraud and
deceit and corruption and abuse of power . Throughout history this has been the problem with several
new and lasting governments. People have even written books where the story is an allegory or a
satire for these problems. One of the most well know is Animal Farm by George Orwell. This book
was originally written to show the issues of the Bolshevik Revolution of 1917, however it is a timeless
book that can be applied to countless revolutions, rise to power, and different government regimes.
The Nazi regime was full of issues, but had a major issue with corruption. Animal Farm can be
applied to the Nazi regime to show the corruption in leadership thought the comparisons of the order,
lies, and violence in each. Both of these regimes had a strong set of rules and a strong sense of order to
keep the people in line. Both believed that the key to keeping strong order was to have the best and
more intellectual people as the leaders. The pigs were the leaders because of their superior knowledge
it was natural that they should assume the leadership (Orwell 35). Animal Farm had the smarter people
be the leaders, however the Nazi party took it a step farther for whom their leaders would be. They
had the idea of a master race or perfect human, which made everyone else inferior. Their goal was to
have the master race rule over everyone. Having stronger and more intellectual

1984 Dystopian Society
The book 1984 was written by George Orwell in 1948, the main theme of this book is social science
fiction. A underlying theme is this book is a dystopian future: the social, economical, and political
problems are issues that are lied about, prove this. When looking at the social aspect of life in 1984 all
social groups are treated very different yet at the same time are all treated the same. In 1984 there is a
very obvious hierarchal system; the top is The Inner Party, than The Outer Part, and on the bottom of
the list are the proles. In Oceania this society strictly follows this, and does not deviate from these set
rules of class. Each social group in 1984 are marginalized, excluded, and silenced, the way that this

As usual, there was no definite rule against talking to proles and frequenting their pubs, but it was far
too unusual an action to pass unnoticed (87). This just shows how odd it is for Party Members to talk
to proles, but when a Party Member does need to they do it knowing only a little backlash will happen
if they are questioned. The proles live in parts of Oceania that are the slums of the state. As Winston
walks around the proles part of town, he brings up that it doesn t smell good at all. If there was hope, it
must lie in the proles, because only there, in those swarming disregarded masses, eighty five percent

moved always among them, spreading false rumors and marking down and eliminating the few
individuals who were judged capable of becoming dangerous: but no attempt was made to indoctrinate
them with the ideology of the party (71). The party Doesn t want to waste their resources on the proles
so they just marginalize them and pretend like they re not there. The Thought Police and Party don t
care about the proles at all, the Thought Police go around spreading rumor just so that they can see if
any of the proles will react, than the Thought Police take them away and silence them, and most likely

Abortion As A Social Controversy
This problem becomes more complicated when the topic of discussion is controversial. A controversy
can at best be defined as a concept or idea, which produces discord among a number of people (Xu,
Parks, Chu, Zhang, 2010). Controversies therefore, describe information on which a lot of people
strongly disagree creating a false ring of truth around the topic. controversies often have profound
social, political and economic implications, and more and more often they feature public
disagreements among scientific, technical or medical experts. Whether the confrontation occurs over
the control of AIDS, about the proposed introduction of the abortion pill, about whether vaccines
causes autism, over the location of an airport, or over the implications of the greenhouse effect,
experts become involved. Disputes between experts provoke major difficulties for decision making
and policy implementation in the case of such public confrontations, which, more often than not, are

difficulty with math than male students leading her to believe she will fail, when in all actuality her
failure could probably be attributed to the availability heuristic and self fulfilling prophecy.
The availability heuristic more than likely added to her worry as it is known as the mental rule of

King Henry Viii And The Schism
King Henry VIII and the Schism
St. Augustine, a Catholic saint that helped developed the Western Catholic Church, once said There is
nothing more serious than the sacrilege of schism because there is no just case of severing the unity of
the church (St. Augustine). Through this quote it is learned of the significance of the Catholic Church
saw to staying together and avoiding a schism( a split between parties based on different beliefs). The
Catholics believed that in the event of a break in the church would cause a great disaster because they
believed that the church needs to stay together as a whole or it would be blasphemy, and heresy. The
Church also believed that if the church was to have a schism it would destroy the unity and sanctity of
the church. This in fact would be believed to take away from the church in the manner of it not being
the only church with the same mission. Therefore when King Henry VIII ( the second Tudor, monarch,
who ruled from 1509 1547) separated from the Catholic Church it went completely against the
mission that St. Augustine was trying to teach us through his comments about the church having a
schism. The dangers it could have caused were believed to lead to a destruction of the church and lead
to the end of the Catholic Church all together. Although there are people that view King Henry VIII
actions as positive for Europe and beneficial to Europe especially England, it should be seen that King
Henry VIII actions were not actually

  • 10. Analysis Of Too Big For Broadway Kander and Ebb took a great risk in using the framework of a minstrel show to tell the story in their musical The Scottsboro Boys. Various sources argue that the use of the minstrel show in Kander and Ebb s The Scottsboro Boys hinders the audiences experience and undermines the importance of this trial. This argument is one of many and goes to show that Kander and Ebb took many risks in using the minstrel show to tell the story of the Scottsboro Boys. Other sources argue that the humor and stereotypes of the minstrel show perpetuate the boys lack of individuality. In the article, Too big for Broadway?: The limits of historical and theatrical empathy in Parade and The Scottsboro Boys, it is argued that this lack of characterization makes it feel as though the Boys are being victimized, not by American racism, but by Kander and Ebb (Stahl 76). With all of the dangers involved in the use of this racist form, it is understandable how the intention of the minstrel show can be misconstrued. Kander and Ebb incorporate many aspects of the minstrel show such as comedy and stereotyping to create a contrast with the moments when the characters rebel against the minstrel show. The SpeakEasy Stage Company portrays the contrast of these moments impeccably. This production of The Scottsboro Boys validates that when done well, the minstrel elements are very effective in creating tension between the horrible truths of the trial and with the pleads for freedom by the characters. • 11. Fifth Business Character Analysis Fifth Business is the first book of Robertson Davies Deptford Trilogy. The novel is a memoir of Dunstable Ramsay, the protagonist, in the form of a letter to the school s headmaster. Many characters play a huge significant role in Dunstable s life as he develops, however, many of those people are women. Leading examples of this are Fiona Ramsay, his mother; Mary Dempster, the woman who changed his life; Diana Marfleet, his nurse and meaningful love; and Liselotte Vitzliputzli, his source of therapy and inspiration. A link emerges between Dunstable Ramsay and Mary when she is hit in the head with a snowball thrown by Percy Boyd Staunton, which was intended for Dunstable. Dunstable is forever filled with guilt although he had no control whatsoever when the incident occurred. This guilt eventually leads to Dunstable developing feelings for Mary Dempster, even though she is ten years older than him. His loyalty for Mary Dempster is at the same degree as his mother, or perhaps more. When Dunstable is at the Third Battle of Ypres, he loses his leg after he takes down German snipers. While Dunstable lies down wounded, he sees Mary Dempster s face on the statue of The Little Madonna. But what hit me worse than the blow of shrapnel was that the face was Mrs. Dempster s face . Othello is called a tragedy and has been a popular play throughout the history of literature and drama. The non shortened original title of this play is The Tragedy of Othello, The Moor of Venice. There are several key points of analysis that can be found when reading Othello. These include specific themes, irony, symbolism, and tone. Each of these devices add to the overall meanings in a specific way, Shakespeare placed them within the play for the reader to understand. The prominent theme in Othello is jealousy. It s a theme that is present throughout the entire play. Iago, who the main villain of the play, is jealous of Othello and the power he has. Following data entry is the production or fulfillment step. This is the step where pharmacists actually fill the prescriptions. The major problem encountered in this step is not having sufficient inventory to fill a prescription. This can be frustrating for the pharmacist and the customer. A possible solution to this problem is to fill the prescription in part; enough to get the customer started on their medication, and then when new shipment arrives fill the remaining portion of the prescription. This would require an entry to the customer s record so that employees know the prescription was only partially filled. Also in order to implement this process, we would need our suppliers to expedite shipping of our restock orders. As a market leader, CVS should have no problem in getting its suppliers to work with them. Perhaps the most critical step in the process occurs after the fulfillment step. This is the quality assurance step (QA). This is where the pharmacists review the prescription to make sure the correct medication/dosages have been used in filling the prescription. This step, though time consuming, is critical, and there are no changes that should be applied to this step because of the extremely low margin for error. The last step in the process is the pickup. This step is most likely the most frustrating one for customers, because often when they come to pick up their prescriptions they are not ready yet. Much of this ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In the poem Ulysses by Lord Alfred Tennyson, the speaker Ulysses argues for his mariners to come back out to sea. Karen Prior s article How Reading Makes Us More Human argues how reading makes one more human. On the other hand, Tennyson makes his argument through Ulysses, as he talks to his mariners while Prior makes her argument to teachers of higher of education. While Tennyson and Prior both use rhetorical situations to persuade their audiences, Prior connects to her audience better by citing compelling and exhaustive research, eliciting sympathy from her audience through her narrative voice, and establishing her credibility by using personal examples and research. Prior s uses captivating evidence in her article in order to persuade the audience that reading makes one more human. For example, Prior takes research from psychologists from York University and University of Toronto which states [people] who read fiction appear to be better able to understand other people, empathize with them and view the world from their perspective (para. 2). With the use of notable research, the reader starts to question if reading does make one more human. (33 marks) The debate about whether sociology can be represented as a science has existed for many years. Comte; who first used the word sociology argued that sociology should be based on the methodology of the natural sciences. He argues that the application of natural science methodology to the study of society would produce a positive science of society , showing that behaviour in the social world is governed by laws in the same way as behaviour in the natural world. Durkheim claims to have discovered a real law, that different levels of integration produce different suicide rates. He claimed to have demonstrated that sociology had its own unique subject matter, social facts, and they can be explained scientifically. Therefore positivists disagree with the statement that the study of sociology cannot and should not be a science. Michael Phillipson observes the positivist methodology employed by Durkheim and other researches ride roughshod over the very social reality they are trying to comprehend. He argues that suicide is a construct of social actors, an aspect of social reality. Official statistics on suicide are therefore not wrong or inaccurate; they are part of the social world. They are interpretations made by official of what is seen to be unnatural death. Popper is different to positivists as he denies the possibility of creating laws or predictions that are true for all time. He argues much of sociology is unscientific because it consists of theories that can t be put to the test with the possibility; they can t be falsified. Popper believes sociology can be scientific as it can produce theories that in principle can be falsified. Even as a child many of us were constantly told: Think about your behavior! This reminder helps realize that one of the most powerful determinants of human behavior stems from our need to justify our actions. This feeling of discomfort caused by performing a certain action is called cognitive dissonance. However, sometimes justification of our actions, caused by cognitive dissonance, leads to the thought: Who decided what is right or wrong? or in other words: What and where is the perfect example of living a moral life? Studying moral philosophy shows us that people hold different worldviews that contain different models of moral justification. Based on the analysis of two philosophies, naturalism and theism, this paper argues that theism provides a better framework for making sense of morality and living a moral live, because it has more explanatory power regarding the notion of free will that people have. Naturalism mainly is though as a type of scientism, which implies that only things recognized by scientists as real are real. Although, there are many naturalists who hold this particular view, it is not the necessary feature of naturalism. Multiple Characters In Anna Karenina By Lev Tolstoy In Anna Karenina, Lev Tolstoy describes multiple characters in depth and gives the readers the opportunity to create and change their opinions about most of them as the plot develops. The novel begins with a rather striking quote, taken from Romans 12:19: Vengeance is mine, I will repay (Tolstoy XXV). This sentence s meaning in it s biblical context and full length, is that it is not up to people to punish others for their wrong doings, but that God will eventually take revenge and repay them, for it is his right and duty to do so. Focusing on the meaning of this excerpt, I believe that it is connected to the outcomes of Anna and Vronsky s affair, but also to that of the life of Dolly Oblonskaya and her husband, as well as other characters . In this paper I will support my interpretation of the reasons why I believe that despite the fact that Anna Karenina appears to suffer the consequences of her love affair with Alexei Vronsky because she is a woman more than her brother Stepan Oblonsky, the faith that the author assigns to her with allusions since the beginning of the book, is connected to the fact that cheating is fundamentally wrong according to Tolstoy s perspective, and that her punishment is a consequence of the above mentioned quotation. In contrast, in an inquisitorial system the judge holds a very active role in the process, by choosing which evidence to accept and applying the law to the evidence in deciding the case. Supporters of the adversary system consider this feature as an advantage because they believe that the justice is best achieved where the decision maker is neutral, passive and impartial in deciding the case. Distinction of roles between judges and juries is a further fundamental difference between the adversarial and inquisitorial systems. In an adversarial system, there is a division of work between a judge and jury. The role of the judge is to adjudicate the issue of law and to ensure that the trial proceeds comply with the procedural and substantial laws, while the role of the jury is to adjudicate the issue of facts as served by the opposing parties based on the law given by judges. Throughout history this has been the problem with several new and lasting governments. People have even written books where the story is an allegory or a satire for these problems. One of the most well know is Animal Farm by George Orwell.
