Essay on Learning Theory Applied to Health Care
Learning Theory Applied to Health Care The purpose of this paper is to discuss a learning theory
with application to a teaching learning situation in health care. This paper will focus on the social
learning theory and its application to the teaching learning process in nursing. I will explore a clear
definition of the theory and present the main concepts. Lastly, I will apply my knowledge of the
social learningtheory by describing how I use it in a health care setting when educating student
nurses during senior practicum.
Definition of the Social Learning Theory and its Contributor The social learning theory suggests
that people learn new behaviors through observation of factors in their environment, by taking note
of other s ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Therefore, it is important to identify the learner s perception, interpretation and response to the
social situation in which they are learning. This can be particularly important in the health care
environment. Learning and behavior occur because of the interaction of environmental and
cognitive factors occurring within a social context by observation, imitation, and modeling the
behaviors, attitudes and emotional reactions of others (Abbott, 2007; Ormrod, 1999). Bandura
(1977) uses a four step approach when implementing learning consisting of four phases: Attentional
, Retention, Reproduction, and Motivational. The attentional phase is when the learner observes
the role model. The processing and memorization of the observations takes place in the retention
phase. The learner performs the learned action or behavior in the reproduction phase. Lastly, the
motivation phase focuses on the learner s motivation to perform the behavior depending on their
perception of reward or punishment as a consequence. This is known as vicarious reinforcement
(Bastable , 2008).
Application of Learning Theory to Health care Setting As a Registered Nurse I have had the
opportunity to be a preceptor to a number of nursing students. I take this role very seriously as I am
aware of the impact that my mentoring has on the students learning experience, competence and
satisfaction

Superman Returns
Hot off the heels of two successful X Men films, Bryan Singer was given the Brass Ring , when
Warner Brothers offered him the directors chair to reintroduce Superman to modern movie
audiences. At the time it seemed like the right choice. Singers X Men films where loved by critics
and movie goers alike. The films were reminiscent in Richard Donners approach by remaining
faithful to the source and using practical effects rather than the cold or lifeless CGI approach which
was becoming the norm.
It looked like Superman would finally be done right and reclaim the crown as the world greatest
superhero. Although Singers 2006 film Superman Returns did decent numbers, even beating Batman

Similarities Between Andrew Carnegie And Henry Frick
If one aligns oneself with another person, and the person whom he or she has partnered up with is
a difficult or stubborn person, it will make a difference in what they are trying to pursue. The
people with whom one aligns oneself with makes all the difference. This is proven in the
relationships between Andrew Carnegieand Henry Frick, Cornelius Vanderbilt and Thomas Scott,
and Thomas Edison and J.P Morgan. Henry Frick threw Carnegie s reputation down the drain.
Henry is known for being a cruel, harsh, and demanding businessman. Andrew decided he was
going to leave Carnegie Steel to Frick while he was in Scotland. That was a terrible idea made
by Carnegie. Henry Frick went crazy with power and became very aggressive. Carnegie Steel
becomes portrayed as ruthless and mean. To add Frick decided to change working hours and make
them longer. Working in the conditions for a steel manufactory is very difficult and dangerous. The
workers weren t getting paid much to live off of either. Because of this the workers went on strike,
and Henry continuing to be the ruthless man he is ordered the Pinkertons to intimidate them. When
the steel workers held their ground, the Pinkertons fired. They killed seven workers and shot twenty

Rockefeller was rising above them both in money with his oil. Vanderbilt was the first to notice
if they align themselves, Vanderbilt and Scott, they could stop him from getting any richer.
Together they decided to pull their deals with Rockefeller. Their allegiance together made a huge
difference for Rockefeller and their plan worked for a little while. If they never had aligned
themselves deals with Rockefeller would have kept on going and he would have never discovered
that one can move oil through pipes. Thomas Scott s business deteriorated and their plan did not

Star Formation
There are many anomalies, events, planets, and stars, and many more parts of our universe. Three
anomalies, events, and astronomical objects are black holes, supernovas, and stars. Random fact,
these three are either stars or are the event caused by a star.
Stars have the ability to cause multiple events. The stars are the fundamental building blocks of our
universe, and responsible for many things. The formation of a star begins within clouds of dust.
Turbulence deep within the clouds gives a rise in speed with enough mass that the cloud can
collapse under its own gravitational pull. As the cloud collapses the core begins to heat up. This
is called a protostar, and what will one day become a star. The end of a star occurs when a star has
fused all of its hydrogen and the star collapses and the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The supernova is the explosion of a star and is one of the largest explosions in the universe. A
supernova can outshine an entire galaxy for days or even months depending on the size. A
supernova is formed when there is a change in the core of the star. This can occur in two ways.
The first way happens when two stars orbit the same point and steal mass from each other and
the star eventually becomes large enough that it will explode causing a supernova. The second
way occurs when a star reaches the end of its lifetime and runs out of fuel, some of its mass will
flow to the center of the star making heavier and eventually becoming so heavy it collapses in on
itself and causes a supernova. Supernovas are very helpful in telling scientists about our universe.
One way is that one supernova has shown that our universe is expanding at an increasing rate.
Supernovas are also responsible for distributing many elements. Most of the atoms in our universe
are actually manufactured inside a star. Stars have the ability to distribute elements up to iron, but
to get heavier elements such as mercury, there would have to be a

Penetration Testing
Using penetration testing to enhance your company s security Based on the fundamental principle
that prevention is better than cure, penetration testing (pen testing) is essentially an information
assurance activity to determine if information is appropriately secured. Conducted by penetration
testers, sometimes referred to as white hats or ethical hackers, these tests use the same tools and
techniques as the bad guys ( black hat hackers ), but do so in a controlled manner with the express
permission of the target organization. Vulnerability scans versus pen testing A common area of
confusion is the relationship between vulnerability scanning (automated) and pen testing (expert
driven manual testing). Both involve a proactive and... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This would involve the testing of Android, iOS and BlackBerry applications that can help
organizations pinpoint and correct flaws in their mobile applications as well as understand the
risks posed by new mobile platforms. There are numerous other types of penetration testing that
include social engineering, physical security testing and password security testing. In 2012, Trust
wave did over two million network vulnerability scans and found that some 5% of all passwords
involved some variation of the word password Password1 was the most commonly used because it
satisfies the complexity rules for many systems including the default settings for Microsoft s
widely used Active Directory identity management software. What makes a good pen tester?
Defining the required body of knowledge that a penetration tester needs to know is quite difficult to
describe succinctly. Certainly some typical traits are a strong theoretical computer science
background and an extensive and broad foundation of practical knowledge with respect to operating
systems and software used within the enterprise. Naturally on top of this needs to be layered an in
depth knowledge of attack and penetration techniques that don t always lend themselves well to
being assessed through typical interview scenarios. Therefore many hiring managers will look for
candidates with a minimum level of experience working in a full time penetration testing role with
companies the

Pros and Cons of Attending College Essay examples
Is College Worth It? In Life today a college education is no longer an option or privilege, but
rather it is a necessity. We are raised to believe that a person needs higher education in order to
succeed in life. There is a saying, if you think education is expensive, try ignorance. You may ask
is college necessary? There are people out in the real world that have never set a foot on a college
campus before and they are doing better than others that have their master s degree. There are
many views from both sides that have a good argument. The main reason people go to college is
because they were always told you will have a better life if you go to college. Kids are pressured to
feel that the have to go to college because, it... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They do not want to be looked down upon in the eyes of society so they do what they think is
best. The idea to become a productive person in society is that you must have some sort of
college education. Being a college student is seen as more respectable, rather then being a
garbage man or janitor because of the way society looks down upon these types of careers.
Going to college and receiving a degree does not guarantee that a person is going to get a job
right after they graduate. It is sometimes hard for some graduates to find a good job because
there is so much competition with other graduates as well. Sometimes they may get a job and it
could be in a totally different field of what they got their degree for. They must find a job though
to pay off all the debt that an education has given them. Many students feel that some classes are
a waste of time and money because they learn nothing about their chosen field. They have to
take classes that have nothing to do with their major but must take the class to meet the core
education requirement of the college. If these students receive a less than average grade in a
class they feel is unneeded then that lowers their overall GPA. The major reason of going to
college is to get a good job. College prepares us with academic knowledge in order to succeed in
the future. Many people think that a higher education is essential to prepare a person for their

War At The Best, Is Horrible, And This War Of Ours
David Leathers Professor Blanc US History 13 November 2014 Civil Warfare War at the best, is
terrible, and this war of ours, in its magnitude and in its duration, is one of the most terrible
(Lincoln). This war of ours is the American Civil War 1861 1865. It is one of the most
significant wars ever fought in American History. Many Americans lost their lives, some
defending freedom, and others defending the Union. The warfare was a major contributor to the
casualties suffered during this bloodbath. To fully understand this warfare, one must understand
the individual factors involved and how they affected the warfare. The five factors are: military
strategy, worldview paradigm, weapons and supplies, terrain, and climate. Military Strategy is
important to understand because it is the way that warfare is carried out. A historian named
Kelly Snell writes, Old world tactics and training were inefficient due to modern weaponry
(Snell). There was pressure for a transition to new military strategy because of the new weapons.
The tactics used before the civil war are often referred to as antebellum. Antebellum means
existing before a war (Antebellum). Advances in weaponry caused for a change of thought on how
to approach warfare. All of the military thinking of the day was influenced by Napoleon (Snell).
This war therefore was set up for groundbreaking improvements in strategy. Heidler explains how
the Union was trying preserve its unity with the south, so in order to

Essay about E. J. Gallo Winery Case Study
Case 25: E. amp; J. Gallo Winery
Introduction The dessert wine industry realized huge success during the great depression years
when buying regular wine was a luxury that few could afford. Characterized by its sweet taste,
high alcohol content, and cheap price it was until the 80 s an easy to buy alcoholic beverage that
gave people with lower income the opportunity to have wine on their table. The 1980 s was a
decade of change in people s lifestyle with an emphasis on healthier habits and thus, consuming
healthier products. This change, combined with an increased consciousness about society s moral
obligations had a negative impact on dessert wine, since it was viewed as a cheap wine with higher

Nevertheless, despite the criticism, the company still produces and sells its signature type of
dessert wines; Thunderbird and Night Train.
Discussion According to the Wine Institute the dessert wine segment is 8% of the total U.S.
wine sales, with Gallo controlling 16.1% of the segment (Wine Institute). The key success
factors in the dessert wine segment have been the placement of this product. Supermarkets,
corner liquor stores, and warehouse clubs all carry it. These wines were the beginning of Gallo
and it was not until the late 70 s that Gallo started producing premium wines and wine coolers. At
first the premium wines were marketed without Gallo s name on them but as years have passed
and Gallo s various premium wines have won major awards, the Gallo name became associated
with the premium wines, and not the dessert wines. While there is not a strategic fit per se
between the two there is an economy of scale present and both Gallo and the liquor distributors
/ retailers benefit by the company offering a wide range of products, which helps with bracket
buying, merchandise assistance, and signage. According to Times Magazine, Gallo s dessert wine
accounts only for 3% of its total wine sales ever since the company transitioned to higher quality
wine products (Times Magazine). However, dessert wines, despite the criticism they encounter,
have a sweet and more palatable taste which allows for an easy entry for new drinkers to the wine

Cranial Structure
The primary structure in the cranial cavity is the brain which has a mass around 1300 grams and
make up by approximately 100 billion neurons and 10 to 50 trillion neuroglia in adults (Tortora
and Derrickson, 2011). The weight of the brain increases rapidly during the first four years of life
and reaches the maximum weight around twentieth years (Gallucci et al., 2005). The brainis the
portion of central nervous systemthat act as control center for registering sensation correlated with
one another and with stored information, decision making, and actions. Furthermore, it also acts as
a center for the intellectual, emotions, behavior and memories (Tortora and Derrickson, 2011).
The brain is covered by meninges layers consisting the dura mater, the arachnoid mater and the pia
mater. The dura mater forms the outermost layer of meninges that act as a protective and
supportive if the brain. While the arachnoid mater and the pia mater form the middle and the
innermost layer of meninges respectively. Furthermore, the subarachnoid space lies between the
arachnoid and pia mater responsible for circulation of cerebrospinal fluid and contains most of
blood vessels in the brain (Lazo, 2005). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Anheuser Busch, The Largest Beer Distributing Company Of...
Anheuser Busch is the largest beer distributing company in the world. This is because over the
years dating back to 1852 they have been pioneers in both their product production and
distribution. Over the years they have faced a lot of criticism and setbacks. Most notably during
Prohibition from 1920 through the early 1930s. In 2008 they were bought by the European
company InBev and currently hold 49.6% of the market share. Today through the modern era they
have also been one of the most successful companies when it comes to marketingtheir products.
After World War II, Anheuser Busch entered into a time of prosperity and growth. In 1955, August
A. Busch, Jr. made a personal television appearance to introduce the first successful new beer brand
since Prohibition, Busch Bavarian. To help market the brand, August Jr. tied Busch to America s
national pastime: baseball.
In the 1950s, Anheuser Busch tapped into the growing medium of television and became the first
brewery to sponsor a network television show, The Ken Murray Show, on CBS in 1950. Popular
campaigns, such as Pick a Pair, which urged customers to buy not one but two six packs at a time,
helped make Anheuser Busch the leading U.S. brewer in 1957 a position it retains today.
In the 1970s, advertising featuring memorable slogans helped keep Anheuser Busch s products in
the forefront of consumers minds. Budweiser s 1979 This Bud s for You campaign saluted
everyday life, while late 1970s and early 1980s

Procrastination Essay
Curing ProcrastinationFive
While it is not a life changing syndrome; that is, a diagnosis found in , procrastination is still
pernicious, psychologically. It can create mild symptoms or some that are chronic, even
debilitating. Regardless, procrastination is something that can be played with.
Procrastination is really a form of ambivalence. This is not widely accepted. Ambivalence is when
part of you wants something and part of your doesn t want that something. It doesn t have to be two
things that directly collide. One of the somethings can be related to the other, just not the same,
requiring a choice that is, at least partially, mutually exclusive. Ambivalence can be in our
awareness, partially in awareness or totally out of awareness. This doesn t matter, because the
subjective experience of it is anxiety. This ambivalence aspect actually creates anxiety, but it is of
the kind that is not usually related with other clinical syndromes, proper.
Procrastination happens when these conflicts occur in our lives and we don t want to negotiate
them. For example, I m supposed to finish a paper for school but I want to play video games. I ll

Negative Effects Of Social Media
Everyone knows that teens love going on social networking sites such as Facebook, Snapchat,
Twitter, or Instagram, but what some don t know is that these sites can actually cause harm to
them. Social media has been around since 1997, about 20 years. Social media is intended to
help people stay caught up with their friends, and family, and also with what s going on in the
world today. Social media, however, is causing negative effects on today s teens, such as,
causing anxiety and depression, lowering self esteem, and also affecting their brain
development. Some people argue that social media academically benefits teens. The article Are
Social Networking sites good for our society explains how teens can academically benefit from
social media. The article says, After George Middle School in Portland, OR introduced a social

33%, and 20% of students school wide voluntarily completed extra credit assignments ( Are

media, if they use academic social networking sites. Most teens do not academically benefit from
social media because they do not use it for academic purposes. Statista shows the top social
networking sites for teens. According to statista, the top three teen social networking sites are
snapchat, 79%, Facebook, 76%, and Instagram, 73%. Although social networking sites can
benefit teens academically, most teens do not use these sites. Academic social networking is
not on any list of popular social media sites, in fact it is not even in the top 20. Teens will not
benefit academically from social media sites such as snapchat, instagram, and facebook. So when
teens don t actually use academic social media sites, they do not benefit academically from social
media. As a result, most teens do not academically benefit from social media. Extensive use of
social media in teens may lead to anxiety and depression. Nick Zagorski from the American

Coffe and the History of Ethiopia
The popularity of coffee began with its introduction to Europe in the 17th century, a time when
colonialism had brought many resources to countries like France and Britain. In Europe, coffee
was a delicious beverage, and was very inexpensive due to the monopoly of coffee imports from
colonized to colonizer. But while tea was still the preferred choice in North America, an
increasingly higher tax on America s favorite beverage led to the Boston Tea Party. Tea forever
came to be known for the British oppressor, and coffeebecame as popular in the U.S. as it was in
Europe. The popularity of coffee remained because the colonies in Africawere required to export all
precious resources to Europe. Despite the history of exploitation of resources in many African
countries, the coffee industry in Ethiopia has thrived, taking a product that is in high demand and
creating a stable economy, leading to the improvement of its citizen s economic prosperity. This is
because Ethiopia was one of the few areas not colonized by European powers, letting it avoid the
consequences of colonialismand focus on the development of a country.
Since the beginning of imperialism, Ethiopia has stood apart from other African nations. Being one
of the only two countries in Africa that had not been colonized, Ethiopia had great potential to
thrive without the distraction of foreign powers. In 1896 Ethiopia defeated Italy at the Battle of
Adwa, which remains famous today as the first victory of an African

Change In Mauro Senesi s Short Story The Giraffe
The moral of Mauro Senesi s short story, The Giraffe is that change is not widely accepted, even
if it will bring good. Many people assume change is bad, because it takes away familiarity and
because change is uncertain. In this short story, the group of boys who lead the Giraffe around
town, act as those who are willing to accept and take the risk of allowing change, whereas the
rest of the town reject change by not giving the Giraffe a chance to prove its worth. I believe
Mauro Sensi intentionally created a close relationship between the boys and the Giraffe because
the purpose of the Giraffe, was to act as a role model for the boys. By giving the Giraffe human
characteristics, Senesi gives the boys an example of what their future as adult

Indians And Colonists Relations
Reflecting on the colonization of North America is an uneasy topic for most Americans. The
thought of war between the Indians and the early settlers creates an image of clashing cultures
between the well armed Europeans and the hand crafted weaponry of the native Indians. We tend to
have the perception that the early colonists came and quickly took away the land from the Indians
but, in reality, the Europeans did not have this power. Though French explorers and English settlers
had a different perception of land ownership than that of the Native Americans, the fate of the
Europeans rested in the hands of the Indians. Either from self preservation, civility or curiosity,

The Great Islands Of Hawaii There Was A Prophecy Foretold...
King Kamehameha Among the great islands of Hawaii there was a prophecy foretold by one of
the highest ranking Kapunas. This Kapuna stated that when a comet lit the Hawaiian sky, that
year a baby boy would be born, and this baby would be the one to move the great Naha stone that
sat on the Hilo side of the Big Island, and he would be the killer of kings and finally unite the
Hawaiian island chain under one throne. Thus the year Halley s comet made an appearance over
the Hawaiian islandsin the year 1758 a boy named Kamehameha was born on the big island whose
named translated as the lonely one . (Kamehameha; The Warrior King, Tregaskis) Upon
Kamehameha s secret birth, he was taken into hiding immediately, other kings have already
anticipated the prophecy and sent out small search parties for the newborn infant to be slain.
Spending his early years in Waipio, returning to Kailua by the age of five where he lived with his
parents until his father died, he continued to be raised while receiving special training from King
Kalani Opu u his uncle. Being raised in the way of a warrior and chief Kamehemeha s training
included skills in games, warfare, oral history, navigation, religious ceremonies, etc. This training
and information were taught to Kamehameha because all of those things and more were necessary
for becoming an Ali i ai moku (a district chief). Like most days on kamehameha s home island, now

The Infrastructure Of The Cloud Essay
The infrastructure of the cloud provides a multi tenant configuration in which software deployed in
virtual machines, is accessed by multiple users concurrently across heterogeneous environments.
Though verifying software through evidence can provide a means for trust, the consumer would
demand the authenticity of that trusted service. The possibilities for the consumer not able to fully
trust are that, there is no governance or authority to certify the resources. Hence a third party
authority generally called as the cloud auditor should verify and certify the service instance which
is generally termed as attestation process. Principles of Attestation Process The process of
attestation is based on five principles [11], which if adhered can guarantee that the trusts gained in
the earlier phase are certified for correctness. First principle suggests that the system must be able to
deliver fresh information for the appraiser to make different predictions relating to the target s
future behaviour. This principle is achieved through verification of the entities immediately after
the session is over and for every 6 min. Second, the attestation should be able to provide useful
information about the target by enabling local measurement tools to access inclusive details. For
useful information about the target the model collects quality and security attributes. Third
principle aims that the target system must be able to enforce policies governing the measurements
to be sent to each

Joy Kogawa s Where There Is A Wall
The poem Where There is a Wall by Joy Kogawa is about the struggles of overcoming challenges
in life. Kogawa s poem addresses a social phenomenon. The poet was born in Vancouver, British
Columbia and her writing style is explained by the events that happened early on in her life.
Kogawa s family was sent to an internment camp for Japanese Canadians during World Word II.
Therefore, the poet s history with racism has greatly impacted her and influences her writing
today. Considering the poets past experiences with racism the poem is told in an objective view
and could be described as her giving an inspirational pep talk to her readers. For the most part, the
poet s word choice is concrete and the poem is free of clichГ©s. Also, the diction that

Okonkwo And Achebe s Things Fall Apart
The definition of a tragic hero as told by Aristotle is that they must have a high status, must have
flaws, must have a downfall caused by an error of judgement, the downfall is not fully deserved,
hero learns something from their fall, and audience isn t left in a depressed state. Okonkwo fits
most of the characteristics, but not all of these are part of Things Fall Apart that express these six
characteristics. The traits that do fit Okonkwo, show him as a tragic heroand how he fits as a
characterin the tragic herocategory.
In this novel, Okonkwo fits the traits of being a tragic hero and Achebe does a good job showing
tragic hero characteristic throughout the story. Okonkwo is described as a man with high honor,
who possess great respect in his tribe. He is a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The second trait, talks about having flaws so that hero isn t deemed as perfect. Okonkwo has
many character flaws; the problems he faces with dealing with his father s past, and how
abusive he is towards his family. Okonkwo s anger issues lead him to be very abusive towards
his children and wives because of how he thinks that no one should be weak or disobey him.
Okonkwo fits the third trait with his downfall, and in my opinion can be considered to have two
downfalls in this book. The first being when Okonkwo is exiled from the community for
accidentally shooting his gun. This represents a downfall because it was an error of judgement
towards controlling the gun and it let to Okonkwo having to leave the community and losing his
titles because of his violence. The second downfall is when Okonkwo kills the white messenger
because it was an error of judgement when Okonkwo killed the man because he thought no one
else would and this lead to Okonkwo killing himself. I would say for the fourth trait Okonkwo
didn t deserve to be exiled because of how he didn t mean to kill the boy and he did not deserve his
suicide because of how he thought

Essay on Lucid Dreaming
Lucid Dreaming
Dreams are the playground of the mind. Anything can happen when one is dreaming. The only
limitation is that we only rarely realize the freedoms granted to us in our dreams while we have
them. Lucid dreaming is the ability to know when one is dreaming, and be able to influence what
will be dreamt. A normal dreamis much like passively watching a movie take place in your skull.
In a lucid dream, the dreamer is the writer, director, and star of the movie.
Lucid dreams are exceptionally interesting. Lucid dreaming is defined as dreaming when the
dreamer knows that they are dreaming. The term was coined during the 1910Г•s by Frederik van
Eeden who used the word lucid in the sense of mental clarity (Green, 1968). ... Show more content

Furthermore, lucid dreams can be even more informative about the self than non lucid dreams,
because one can observe the development of the dream out of oneГ•s feelings and tendencies,
while being aware that one is dreaming and that the dream is coming from the self. The notion
that dreams are unconscious processes that should remain so is false. Waking consciousness is
always present in dreams. If it were not, we would not be able to remember our dreams, because
one can only remember an event that has been consciously experienced. The added
consciousness of lucid dreaming is nothing more than the awareness of being in the dream state.
The first thing that attracts people to lucid dreaming is often the potential for adventure and
fantasy fulfillment. Flying is a favorite lucid dream delight, as is sex. Many people have said
that their first lucid dream was the most wonderful experience of their lives. A large part of the
extraordinary pleasure of lucid dreaming comes from the exhilarating feeling of utter freedom that
accompanies the realization that one is in a dream, where there will be no social or physical
consequences of oneГ•s actions. Unfortunately for many people, instead of providing an outlet for
unlimited fantasy and delight, dreams can be dreaded episodes of limitless terror. Lucid dreaming
may well be the basis of the most

I completed my service learning at The Arbors of Bedford, a nursing home for older adults
suffering with memory loss due to dementia. Their mission is to care for the whole person in a
manner that promotes freedom, choice and the opportunity to live a meaningful life (n.a., 2017).
The Arbors of Bedford promotes a therapeutic environment by creating an open and welcome
environment and by giving the residents as much choice in their lives as possible. For example,
they can choose whether to sit by the window in a seat by themselves, or in a living room chair
with a group of people. There is usually a television or music playing in one section, while another
section is quiet which allows the residents to choose the setting that is best for them. They host a
variety of activities that focus on different therapy areas. The activities offered include listening to
spiritual hymns, tai chi, craft designs, piano performances, and invention trivia. These components
together, along with a caring and competent staff, allow The Arbors of Bedford to fulfill their
mission statement. In order to develop a therapeutic relationship with the residents I use active
listening skills to communicate effectively with them and I practice empathy to make them feel
understood. There is one resident at my site who is

Three events are associated with the Cuban Missile Crisis: superpower tension, the domestic
situation in Cuba, and the Bay of Pigs incident. The ideological competition between Russia and the
U.S. was exemplified in the arms, nuclear and space race, the funding of anti Communists by the
U.S., the unsuccessful Vienna Summit of 1961 and the construction of the Berlin Wall.
In 1958, Kruschev had asked NATO to give up West Berlin to East Germany and by the summer of
1961, Kruschev and Kennedy met during the Vienna Summit, where Kruschev insisted upon East
German control over West Berlin. On August 13, the Soviets and East Germans built a wall that
limited free means of access between the Western and Eastern zones. American and Soviet forces
confronted each other at Checkpoint Charlie, which controlled the passage across.
The U.S. eventually agreed with the wall s construction in November 1961, resolving the Berlin
Crisis. However, Kruschev had not yet gotten what he wanted. According to him, the installation of
Soviet missiles in Cuba could be to negotiate over Berlin. Kennedy might replace the removal of
Soviet Cuban missiles with retreat from West Berlin.

Sugar Vs Ice
What makes ice melt faster, salt or sugar? For a fact, almost anything that can be dissolved in
water will be able to melt ice. (Lynch, 2016, pg 1). Well, salt is known to be used on icy roads
during the winter. Salt affects the freezing point of the ice, which causes the falling snow and the
snow that is on the ground to melt more and not freeze less. Like salt, sugar also melts the ice by
affecting the freezing point of ice. Both sugar and salt affect the formation of the water molecules
when they change the freezing point of the ice. Both salt and sugar melt ice, but sugar is not as
effective as salt.(Lynch, 2016, pg 1).
The freezing point is the temperature of a substance when it changes from a liquid to a solid.(World

Chesick, pg 390, para. 5,). The melting points of different substances vary. The melting pointof a
substance depends on the whether the substance is a pure substance or a mixture. A pure substance
melts at a specific temperature. A mixture does not melt at a specific temperature, but at a wide
range of temperatures. The melting point of a substance is affected by atmospheric pressure. An
increase of the pressure raises the melting point of the substance, but it also lowers the melting
point of some substances. The melting point or the point at which water boils is 212 degrees
fahrenheit ( 100 degrees celsius.)
Ice has a crystal structure of frozen water molecules.(World Book, Devlin, pg 5, para. 7). Each
molecule is made up of 2 hydrogen atoms and 1 oxygen atom. Each molecule is attached to 4
neighboring molecules by connections known as hydrogen bonds.( World Book, Devlin, pg 5,
para 7).An oxygen atom can be part of two hydrogen bonds, while any hydrogen atom can be part
of any 1 hydrogen bond. ( World Book, Devlin, pg 5, para 7.Therefore, these molecules can form

Realismism And Realism
Years before World War One began, Germany was afraid of their neighbors. At the time right
before World War One, Russia had a population that was far beyond any of its neighboring
countries. However, Russia had yet to fully industrialize. Through a fear of the rise of Russia,
Germany decided a war was more favorable than peace negotiations and allowing Russia to climb
in power. Dale Copeland and other Realismtheorist s show that World War One was caused by
Germany (who was fearing a decline), pushed for a preventative war against Russia and tried to
make it seem as it was Russia s fault. Realism is a theory that involves international politics
focusing mainly on the role of each nation state. The theory focuses on the motivations of each
state by their own national interests and usually disguise these interests as moral concerns (in
order to get the citizens on board). There are five major assumptions that go along with Realism.
First states are the main actors. In the case of World War One, Germany was focused on other
country s rise due to their material capabilities and geographic positions. Second, is that the
international system is anarchic. During World War One, there was no global government making
sure a war did not happen. Every state was negotiating for themselves, and Germany had no desire
for peace. A third assumption of realism is each state is uncertain of another state s intentions.
Germany was afraid of what Russia would want once it became industrialized

In fact there will never was, nor will there ever be, a time that would surpass the horror humanity
faced during the outbreak. We were put through a trial. Some passed and some failed. The worst
traits of humanity were exposed during the outbreak. But at the same time, the best traits shone
so brightly that the darkness of humanity dissipated. It was the survivors that fought to get our
lives back who had these traits. Many credit me with bringing together so many people, with
different ideals, to fight back or bringing out the best in people because I inspired them. That
was not true. It was thanks to true humanity. The humanity I always knew existed. It s just that it

This model is an expansion of the CAPM and it includes two additional variables, taking into
account size and book to market factors, as explanatory variables expressed within the model as
SMB and HML. The Capital Asset Pricing Model (CAPM) and Fama amp; French s three factors
model are both models account for the expected returns for stock albeit using different variables
to distinguish and add reliability to the predictions of these estimated returns. However, the
CAPM uses only one factor to determine the riskiness of the marketplace, Beta, whereas Fama

minus Big (SMB) and High Minus Low (HML), which take into account the relationships between
market and share size. Hence, in Fama amp; French s findings, stocks with higher beta did not
always perform better. The Three Factor Model is indeed preferred at predicting the returns of
stocks, in correlation with each models risk factor.
Moreover, although small stocks outperform large stocks in the past several years, we should not
expect small stocks to outperform large stocks in the future, because, in the future stock market,
there re quite a lot uncertainty, either, we might find the situation that a small stock can only

Ode To A Grecian Urn By John Keats Essay
The Romantic Sentiments of Ode to a Grecian Urn. Employing the poetic style of ekphrasis,
John Keats uses his poem Ode to a Grecian Urn to study a separate work of art. Keats narrates the
poem from the perspective of one carefully studying a vase while pondering the depictions of
nature, love, and religious rites on its surface. His observations lead to to remark on the everlasting
nature of emotions evoked by the urn, as well as the beauty of the images it induces in one who
would observe it. These musings throughout the poem offer a strong indication of Romantic view
which Keats held. Romanticismplaced a heavy emphasis on the importance of emotion as a source

happiness in the image is All breathing human passion far above, / that leaves a heart high
sorrowful and cloy d, / a burning forehead, and a parching tongue. (27 30). With human passion,
there will always exist negative consequences, from heartbreak to longing due to separation.
However, in this single image, frozen in time, these could never exist. Instead the single, cheerful
atmosphere will perpetually remain, and from it Keats is able to grow a larger scene with the
two lovers. Beyond just notions of love, Keats extends the same logic of the perpetuated emotions
to other sentiments. Frequently, a sense of intrigue or uncertainty is maintained within the poem.
All throughout, Keats poses many rhetorical questions. In examining one scene he asks What
men or gods are these? What maidens loth? (8). Although from following questions a general
picture can be formed of men pursuing women in a wild ecstacy (10), a dominating uncertainty
remains. Later, when studying a portrayal of a sacrifice of a cow, Keats poses more questions,
asking What little town by river or seashore / ... is empty of this folk this pious morn? (35 37), and
concludes thy streets for evermore / Will silent be (38 39).
Keats knows that he will never get an answer for his questions, as the artwork will never change.

The Texas Adoption Study
When examining the human development, considering the input of both environmental influence
and biological inheritance is significant. Empiricists believe that development is influenced by
social factors and environmental experiences. On the other hand nativists view development as
predisposed and defined by the genetic codes of an individual, including those that subsequently
mature with age (Keating, 2011, P1). Genes are a major influence on certain physical aspects,
along with a few illnesses. The positive relationship between genetically related individuals who
acquire similar physical features causes assumptions as to whether behavioural, personality and
psychological attributes could also be inherited (McLeod, 2007). Thus the nature approach, which

The Time Of The Butterflies By Julia Alvarez
The struggle for equality has existed for thousands of years. The first decree of human rights was
drafted by King Cyrus in 539 BCE and is still an evolving issue today (Finkel). The book In the
Time of the Butterflies by Julia Alvarez is a historical fiction novel written to tell the tale of the
Mirabal sisters and their struggle against a dictator in the Dominican Republic. As women, the
sisters were objects of discrimination by the dictator s regime. Their struggle against obstacles
forced consequences upon them for speaking their minds in a censored society. Through Mate
Mirabal, the youngest sister, we see a shift in characterization from a cautious adolescent to a
strong woman who helps change her country. Joining the rebellion and spending time in jail
changed Mate into a courageous person. In In the Time of the Butterflies, Julia Alvarez uses the
change in Mate s characterization to describe the impact of oppression and people s need to have
their voice heard.
During her first year at boarding school, Mate is portrayed as a shy girl who is unable to stand
up for herself. This is shown when Mate is unable to keep some girls from making fun of her.
Her thoughts are written in a diary and they give us insight into how she feels and reacts to
certain situations. Her diary is called her Little Book and she uses it to record her feelings when
she is teased. Mate writes, And you might not know this, Little Book, but I always cry when

Advantages And Disadvantages Of TNT Mineralization

Lars Character Analysis
As a result from having Bianca and the support from his family and friends, Lars is able to fully
grow into a mature adult man. The gap between illusion and reality has been bridged, as Lars
realizes his true wants and needs after he creates and ultimately destroys Bianca. Lars is now
able to have intimate moments with people and be able to touch them without feeling pain. This
is most evident in the bowling scene with Margo. Margo invites him to go bowling with her, and
Lars comments that Bianca is unable to come because of a meeting. Usually, Lars would reject
any social gathering, especially without the accompaniment of Bianca, though this time he
accepts. Lars becomes a participant rather than just an observer. He realizes that he enjoyed his
time with Margo, however he tells her that he could never cheat on Bianca. Lars is still holding
on to Bianca s existence, but he feels that he may be ready to let go and have a relationship with
someone real. This scene is also where Lars allows himself to shed one of his layers and shake
Margo s hand a huge leap in his development. There is, however, a false thaw when it begins to

shows the main conflict between illusion and reality that Lars must be able to reconcile. In order

The Fall Of The Berlin Wall
The Year That Changed The World
In The Year That Changed The World tells the first hand experience of the Fall of the Berlin Wall.
The main factor in the collapse of the wall was the never ending fight of the individuals who had
fallen under the communist state. Most of these individuals came together and fought in order to
achieve their goal of a non communist state and German unification. The Cold Warwas the conflict
between the Eastern bloc (Communist) against the Western Bloc (Capitalist), the separation
between them began to be known as the Iron Curtain. The Berlin Wall was physical representation
of the war for most people, a city divided into two. This important part of history led to the
beginning of the Cold War period and the end. The fall of the Berlin Wall made 1989 the year that
changed the world. In The Year That Changed the World Meyer conveys that success is easily
accomplished in cooperation rather than separation.
Mr. Gorbachev, tear down this wall! President Ronald Reagan s famous expression, when he last
visited Berlin in 1987, as a clear call to bring the Cold War to an end. According to the United

Compare And Contrast The Traditional Model Of Public...
Over the recent decades, the public sectors of the countries have implemented considerable reforms
in response to the challenges of technological progress and global changes. These wide public
sector reforms represent a shift from the
Traditional model of Public Administration (TPA), to the New Public Management
(NPM). In other words, there have been numerous changes to replace the huge massive
bureaucracies based on hierarchical forms with market based economic theories built on consumer
driven managerialism. And power was centralized in TPA, while NPM decentralized power
distributes to the businesses. In the following, I will briefly examine the public administration and
new public management. Then compare the TPA and the NPM from various dimensions such as

There are differences between TPA and NPM. TPA put more focus on procedures, civil servants

result, managers own greater autonomy and serve the citizen more flexible. Now, I will compare
these two models by examining their perceive roles, functions and modes of operation.
Before compare the two different models TPA and NPM, I will illustrate what is the public sector
management. Public sector management is the process of ensuring that the allocation and use of
resources available to the government are directed toward the achievement of lawful public policy
goals (Hill and Lynn, p.10).
Traditional public administration and new public management

Firstly, the perception of role the public sector. It can be depicted that government agencies act as
an administrator in the TPA model, but they act as a manager in the
NPM model. To start with, the administrators in the TPA advise policy makers on development,
review and implement public policy and manage its own resources so that policy may be
implemented (Hughes, 2003). But conversely in NPM,

Distance In The Latehomecomer By Kao Kalia Yang
Time is a relative concept. Created by man, it was meant to contain events and label points of
interest. Distance, however, is always certain. There is no bend of the path from here to there, it
will always be the same amount. In The Latehomecomer by Kao Kalia Yang the dilemma of
distance is tackled through expressing the heartache that can come from it exiting between people.
Kao Kalia Yang and her family came to America in 1987. There were many strange features in the
country. From the strangers kissing openly at the airport, to the hassle of finding the restroom, and
the new type of separation between the Yang s. The topic of distance is constantly brought up in
the book. It first begins at the river when Uncle Hue is forced to go back

Introduction. Cystic Fibrosis . Cystic Fibrosis (Cf) Is
Introduction
Cystic fibrosis Cystic fibrosis (CF) is a lethal autosomal recessive disorder with a clinical
incidence of 1 in every 3500 newborns1. Currently, over 4000 Canadians have CF, with 60%
being adults2. In the past, CF was considered a fatal disease with a life expectancy of less than
two years, however, advances in enzymatic and antibiotic therapy have greatly improved the life
expectancy of patients afflicted with CF3. Currently, the median age of Canadian CF patients is 50
years2.
CF is caused by a mutation in the cystic fibrosis transmembrane conductance regulator (CTFR)
gene, which encodes a chloride ion channel that regulates osmotic balance across the epithelium
through the transport of sodium ions and water4. Mutations ... Show more content on

However, P. aeruginosa is the archetypal pathogen infecting the CF lungs since approximately 80%
of adult CF patients are chronically infected with this bacteria1. P. aeruginosa is a ubiquitous Gram
negative bacterium that thrives in moist environmental reservoirs such as in the soil, water and
plants8, 9. P. aeruginosa is an opportunistic human pathogen that infects immunocompromised
individuals, lending to its association with life threatening illnesses10. In addition to pulmonary
infections in CF patients, P. aeruginosa is frequently found in nosocomial infections11. As such, P.
aeruginosa is recognized for its medical importance in clinical infections. Early infection with P.
aeruginosa resembles acute non CF infections within the airways, however the bacterium can
evolve genotypically and phenotypically during infection, and adapt to its human host1. Adaptive
mutations resulting in loss of motility and acquired antibiotic resistance support a sessile lifestyle
that is associated with persistent infection within the CF lungs9, 12. Chronic infection is
characterized by immunity mediated inflammation from increased recruitment of
polymorphonuclear leukocytes to the lungs2. Furthermore, P. aeruginosa utilizes an assortment of
virulence factors such as proteases, exotoxin A, and phospholipases to destroy host tissue, by which
the symptoms of CF patients are

Oil In Vehicles
Changing the oil in a car is a very important thing. If you do not change it your vehicle s motor
could lock up. I am going to explain to you the process of how to change the oil in your vehicle.
There are a few things you will need to do this such as, a ratchet, oil filter, fresh oil, ramps, and
something to drain your oil into. The whole process is pretty simple if you follow these steps.
The first step is to open your hood. There should be a lever inside your door that will release the
hood. Once you get the hood open you will need to take your oil cap off of the motor for better
air flow. It is important to clean the inside of that cap so you do not get any dirt in your motor. You
wantto keep your motor as clean as possible. The next

Essay about Lowering Population In India And South Asia
Lowering Population in India and South Asia
The problem of overpopulation exists nearly everywhere, and if it does not currently exist, it will
in the near future. People are having several children, and that is greatly exceeding the death rate.
This problem is especially apparent in South Asia, and it is causing several problems such as
famine, epidemic, overcrowding, etc.
The country of India is in dire need of aid in the decreasing of their population. There are
approximately 25 births for each 9 deaths. That is nearly a 1.58% increase in population. The

would solely depend on deaths to decrease the population. To enforce the law, strict punishments
including required military service for the father and the new son or large fines can be created. But
limiting the amount of children allowed by law may seem kind of harsh. There are still other
methods of lowering surface population in India.
The Country of India has a GDP of 1.8 trillion dollars. A new tax dubbed, quot; The population tax
quot; can be enacted, that for a small some of money monthly, can aid in the fight against over
population in South Asia. The tax would do this by constructing free clinics with a variety of
ways to help. The first of which is to provide the strictest confidentiality about anything that
occurs inside. A barrage of free material as well as expert advise would be in the clinics for
anyone to learn about safe sex, and anything else that needed to be there. Free contraceptives would
be given. Of course Abstinence with 100% effectiveness will be recommended but if this will not
be done that other methods will be suggested.
Sterilization has a 99+% effectiveness rating, and although costly, will be given for free. Norplant
implants with the same effectiveness, will available. Birth control pills with a 97% rating will be

The Pros And Cons Of Nuclear Power Plants
For many decades, Nuclear Power Plants have become a growing argument between the educated
and uneducated. Some have grown towards the growth of these plants for their technological
innovations and environmental benefits. Others have walked away from the deal, repeatedly
exclaiming the risks and money that builds up over time. Though these problems remain open for
everyone to see, those arguments are outdated and overstated. In addition, there are far more
positives than the eyes can see, the negatives, however, are an eyesore. Nuclear powerplants will
benefit towns for the strict safety standards, the pricing of a nuclear power plant, promotional
factors, and land requirements.
Since the Obninsk Nuclear Power Plant opened in 1954, scientists and engineers have improved the
technology towards today s nuclear reactors. These technological improvements have made power
plants more functional through time. The article Advantages of Nuclear Energy mentions that It
[Nuclear energy] is very powerful and efficient than other alternative energy sources... many
countries are putting huge investments in nuclear powers... a small portion of the world s
electricity comes through (Rinkesh,2013). This citation shows the potential of nuclear power,
however, there s doubt caused by many people who aren t aware of the improvements of the
modern day nuclear power plant. The same article mentions, Developers of the current nuclear

Contrasting Theories on the Extinction of Dinosaurs Essay...
So what killed the dinosaurs? Without having any background education in science it is hard for the
general public to comprehend such matters and they rely on the knowledge of the scientists in this
field. Although there has been much research on the subject nobody has come up with a conclusive
answer. And we are left to read the countless articles, all having their own opinions as to the mass
extinction. One such theory is that a shift in the solar system could have caused the mass destruction
. According to an article published in Nature magazine,
A bizarre wobble 65 million years ago, perturbing the orbits of Mars, Earth and Mercury, may have
caused the demise of the dinosaurs, new models of the Solar System suggest.

In this article other ideas are mentioned about what came after the meteorite hit,
Some have proposed that this hot debris would have ignited vegetation wherever it fell to earth.
Others believe a gigantic fireball, rising over Chicxulub, would have spread hot material over the
planet.
This researcher proposes that the dinosaurs did not die of heat, in fact she thinks the opposite, that
they froze to death instead. Both articles have the same idea about a meteorite hitting the earth yet
there is no concrete evidence as to what caused the meteorite to strike and what it did when it got
here.
Illustrated in an article, also featured in Nature magazine, is the competition between scientists to
find any knowledge leading to an answer and their differing views on the subject. Again the theory
of debris blocking sunlight and stopping photosynthesis is brought up but it is apparent that it is
only one view in a sea of many.
A minority disputes this theory, arguing that other events such as volcanic eruptions, sea level
changes or a series of impacts were to blame for the spectacular loss of species that occurred at the
transition between the Cretaceous and Tertiary periods...
The article explains the consequences of their efforts to drill into the Chicxulub crater in Mexico,
the site where the asteroid supposedly struck. There was a lot of arguments as to which scientist
would take the core section to analyze. In the end

Herodotus Histories As A Principle Source About Ancient...
Herodotus Histories serves as a principle source about ancient Greece. However, within in it there is
an added complexity of Herodotus own attitudes towards archaic tyrants versus what the actual
attitudes of Archaic Greeks were. As for traditions, Archaic tyrants cannot be accurately confined to
singular traits or patterns of operations. Lineages of tyrants, the Kypselids and Pisistratids, do not
have an overarching flavor, the rulers vary. Additionally, singular rulers, such as Polycrates, have
variations in their description.
A key passage from Histories that best summarizes Herodotus attitudes towards tyranny is the
beginning of Sosicles speech to the Spartans, who are considering reimplementing tyranny in
Athens. This is like the turning of the universe upside down. Earth and sky will soon be changing
places men will be living in the sea and fish on land, now that you Spartans are proposing to abolish
popular government and restore despotism in the cities... . Sosicles believes tyranny is the most
backward form of government to consider, when compared to popular government . He presents
tyranny as being so unnatural, that implementing a tyrant would overturn the rest of natural order.
Two hyperbolic statements earth and sky will soon be changing places and men will be living in
the sea and fish on land , are examples of literal switching of places. They suggests that restoring
despotism would be a reversal to something unnatural and that things are as they

Analysis Of Rappaccini s Daughter By Nathaniel...
At first glance, Rappaccini s Daughter, by Nathaniel Hawthorne, is a tragic love story that ends
in the death of one man s true love and another man s daughter. But underneath, there is a dark
undercurrent that is characteristic of the Gothic Romantic strain. This is not so much a story of
love and loss as it is of two scientists desire to come out on top and conquer all who try to stop
them. It is a tale of man s struggle to control nature and gain knowledge beyond that which we
are supposed to have. It highlights a man who seeks to have a deep understanding of Nature s
secrets. It is Rappiccini s desire for this knowledge that causes a rivalry with another scientist. In
the end, his obsession is what eventually takes everything he loved away from him in a fashion
characteristic of the Gothic Romantic strain. The Gothic Romantic writers primarily focus on the
darker side of things. Nature is a destroyer. Additionally, the hero/heroine is solitary and often
controlled by extreme emotions. There are characters who attempt to gain absolute knowledge of
Nature and bend that knowledge to their will so they can essentially become like God. These
themes are quite prevalent in Rappaccini s Daughter. One of the characters, Giovanni Guasconti, is
alone in Naples. Beatrice has absorbed the poisons from the plants around her. This effectively cuts
her off from the rest of the world. Her very touch harms the skin of the other person (12). When

Emotions InSympathy, By Paul Laurence Dunbar
Emotions are constantly building up inside of you. Some may be feelings of joy or pleasure,
while others are emotions of sadness, pain or frustration. Typically, we relieve our emotions
through writing, by talking to therapists, possibly doing yoga, or even sleeping. Well, back in
1800s, most slaves didn t have the luxury to learn how to read or write. They were whipped for
sleeping, as they worked most hours of the day and they definitely didn t have any therapists to
talk to. This made the slaves release their emotions in more unconventional ways, such as
singing. This is described in the poem Sympathy by Paul Laurence Dunbar, which is about the
imprisonment of the life of a slave and excerpt from Narrative (pages 8 9) by Frederick
Douglass, a personal insight to Douglass horrid life as a slave. Both texts convey the central idea
that during times of sorrow, slaves would sing to release their pain and misery. These songs they
sung were not songs of joy.
Sympathy by Paul Laurence Dunbar depicts the idea of slaves singing for their sorrow and
releasing their emotions by using an extended metaphor which carries the entire poem. The caged
bird, referenced throughout the entire poem, are the slaves. Trapped up with no escape, not able to
break free. The metaphor of the caged bird to represent the slaves in this poem truly carries the
piece and depicts the imprisonment of slavery. Dunbar evokes imagery ,describing ...when the sun

  • 2. Essay on Learning Theory Applied to Health Care Learning Theory Applied to Health Care The purpose of this paper is to discuss a learning theory with application to a teaching learning situation in health care. This paper will focus on the social learning theory and its application to the teaching learning process in nursing. I will explore a clear definition of the theory and present the main concepts. Lastly, I will apply my knowledge of the social learningtheory by describing how I use it in a health care setting when educating student nurses during senior practicum. Definition of the Social Learning Theory and its Contributor The social learning theory suggests that people learn new behaviors through observation of factors in their environment, by taking note of other s ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Therefore, it is important to identify the learner s perception, interpretation and response to the social situation in which they are learning. This can be particularly important in the health care environment. Learning and behavior occur because of the interaction of environmental and cognitive factors occurring within a social context by observation, imitation, and modeling the behaviors, attitudes and emotional reactions of others (Abbott, 2007; Ormrod, 1999). Bandura (1977) uses a four step approach when implementing learning consisting of four phases: Attentional , Retention, Reproduction, and Motivational. The attentional phase is when the learner observes the role model. The processing and memorization of the observations takes place in the retention phase. The learner performs the learned action or behavior in the reproduction phase. Lastly, the motivation phase focuses on the learner s motivation to perform the behavior depending on their perception of reward or punishment as a consequence. This is known as vicarious reinforcement (Bastable , 2008). Application of Learning Theory to Health care Setting As a Registered Nurse I have had the opportunity to be a preceptor to a number of nursing students. I take this role very seriously as I am aware of the impact that my mentoring has on the students learning experience, competence and satisfaction ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Superman Returns Hot off the heels of two successful X Men films, Bryan Singer was given the Brass Ring , when Warner Brothers offered him the directors chair to reintroduce Superman to modern movie audiences. At the time it seemed like the right choice. Singers X Men films where loved by critics and movie goers alike. The films were reminiscent in Richard Donners approach by remaining faithful to the source and using practical effects rather than the cold or lifeless CGI approach which was becoming the norm. It looked like Superman would finally be done right and reclaim the crown as the world greatest superhero. Although Singers 2006 film Superman Returns did decent numbers, even beating Batman Begins opening weekend, the film was seen as a failure in relaunching ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Similarities Between Andrew Carnegie And Henry Frick If one aligns oneself with another person, and the person whom he or she has partnered up with is a difficult or stubborn person, it will make a difference in what they are trying to pursue. The people with whom one aligns oneself with makes all the difference. This is proven in the relationships between Andrew Carnegieand Henry Frick, Cornelius Vanderbilt and Thomas Scott, and Thomas Edison and J.P Morgan. Henry Frick threw Carnegie s reputation down the drain. Henry is known for being a cruel, harsh, and demanding businessman. Andrew decided he was going to leave Carnegie Steel to Frick while he was in Scotland. That was a terrible idea made by Carnegie. Henry Frick went crazy with power and became very aggressive. Carnegie Steel becomes portrayed as ruthless and mean. To add Frick decided to change working hours and make them longer. Working in the conditions for a steel manufactory is very difficult and dangerous. The workers weren t getting paid much to live off of either. Because of this the workers went on strike, and Henry continuing to be the ruthless man he is ordered the Pinkertons to intimidate them. Their allegiance together made a huge difference for Rockefeller and their plan worked for a little while. • 5. Star Formation There are many anomalies, events, planets, and stars, and many more parts of our universe. Three anomalies, events, and astronomical objects are black holes, supernovas, and stars. Random fact, these three are either stars or are the event caused by a star. Stars have the ability to cause multiple events. The stars are the fundamental building blocks of our universe, and responsible for many things. The formation of a star begins within clouds of dust. Turbulence deep within the clouds gives a rise in speed with enough mass that the cloud can collapse under its own gravitational pull. As the cloud collapses the core begins to heat up. This is called a protostar, and what will one day become a star. The end of a star occurs when a star has fused all of its hydrogen and the star collapses and the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The supernova is the explosion of a star and is one of the largest explosions in the universe. A supernova can outshine an entire galaxy for days or even months depending on the size. A supernova is formed when there is a change in the core of the star. This can occur in two ways. The first way happens when two stars orbit the same point and steal mass from each other and the star eventually becomes large enough that it will explode causing a supernova. The second way occurs when a star reaches the end of its lifetime and runs out of fuel, some of its mass will flow to the center of the star making heavier and eventually becoming so heavy it collapses in on itself and causes a supernova. Supernovas are very helpful in telling scientists about our universe. One way is that one supernova has shown that our universe is expanding at an increasing rate. Supernovas are also responsible for distributing many elements. Most of the atoms in our universe are actually manufactured inside a star. Stars have the ability to distribute elements up to iron, but to get heavier elements such as mercury, there would have to be a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Penetration Testing Using penetration testing to enhance your company s security Based on the fundamental principle that prevention is better than cure, penetration testing (pen testing) is essentially an information assurance activity to determine if information is appropriately secured. Conducted by penetration testers, sometimes referred to as white hats or ethical hackers, these tests use the same tools and techniques as the bad guys ( black hat hackers ), but do so in a controlled manner with the express permission of the target organization. Vulnerability scans versus pen testing A common area of confusion is the relationship between vulnerability scanning (automated) and pen testing (expert driven manual testing). Both involve a proactive and... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This would involve the testing of Android, iOS and BlackBerry applications that can help organizations pinpoint and correct flaws in their mobile applications as well as understand the risks posed by new mobile platforms. There are numerous other types of penetration testing that include social engineering, physical security testing and password security testing. In 2012, Trust wave did over two million network vulnerability scans and found that some 5% of all passwords involved some variation of the word password Password1 was the most commonly used because it satisfies the complexity rules for many systems including the default settings for Microsoft s widely used Active Directory identity management software. What makes a good pen tester? Defining the required body of knowledge that a penetration tester needs to know is quite difficult to describe succinctly. Certainly some typical traits are a strong theoretical computer science background and an extensive and broad foundation of practical knowledge with respect to operating systems and software used within the enterprise. Naturally on top of this needs to be layered an in depth knowledge of attack and penetration techniques that don t always lend themselves well to being assessed through typical interview scenarios. Therefore many hiring managers will look for candidates with a minimum level of experience working in a full time penetration testing role with companies the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Pros and Cons of Attending College Essay examples Is College Worth It? In Life today a college education is no longer an option or privilege, but rather it is a necessity. We are raised to believe that a person needs higher education in order to succeed in life. There is a saying, if you think education is expensive, try ignorance. You may ask is college necessary? There are people out in the real world that have never set a foot on a college campus before and they are doing better than others that have their master s degree. There are many views from both sides that have a good argument. The main reason people go to college is because they were always told you will have a better life if you go to college. They do not want to be looked down upon in the eyes of society so they do what they think is best. The idea to become a productive person in society is that you must have some sort of college education. Being a college student is seen as more respectable, rather then being a garbage man or janitor because of the way society looks down upon these types of careers. Going to college and receiving a degree does not guarantee that a person is going to get a job right after they graduate. It is sometimes hard for some graduates to find a good job because there is so much competition with other graduates as well. Sometimes they may get a job and it could be in a totally different field of what they got their degree for. They must find a job though to pay off all the debt that an education has given them. Many students feel that some classes are a waste of time and money because they learn nothing about their chosen field. They have to take classes that have nothing to do with their major but must take the class to meet the core education requirement of the college. If these students receive a less than average grade in a class they feel is unneeded then that lowers their overall GPA. The major reason of going to college is to get a good job. College prepares us with academic knowledge in order to succeed in the future. Many people think that a higher education is essential to prepare a person for their future. As ... War At The Best, Is Horrible, And This War Of Ours David Leathers Professor Blanc US History 13 November 2014 Civil Warfare War at the best, is terrible, and this war of ours, in its magnitude and in its duration, is one of the most terrible (Lincoln). This war of ours is the American Civil War 1861 1865. It is one of the most significant wars ever fought in American History. Many Americans lost their lives, some defending freedom, and others defending the Union. The warfare was a major contributor to the casualties suffered during this bloodbath. To fully understand this warfare, one must understand the individual factors involved and how they affected the warfare. The five factors are: military strategy, worldview paradigm, weapons and supplies, terrain, and climate. Military Strategy is important to understand because it is the way that warfare is carried out. A historian named Kelly Snell writes, Old world tactics and training were inefficient due to modern weaponry (Snell). There was pressure for a transition to new military strategy because of the new weapons. The tactics used before the civil war are often referred to as antebellum. Antebellum means existing before a war (Antebellum). Advances in weaponry caused for a change of thought on how to approach warfare. All of the military thinking of the day was influenced by Napoleon (Snell). This war therefore was set up for groundbreaking improvements in strategy. • 9. Essay about E. J. Gallo Winery Case Study Case 25: E. amp; J. Gallo Winery Introduction The dessert wine industry realized huge success during the great depression years when buying regular wine was a luxury that few could afford. Characterized by its sweet taste, high alcohol content, and cheap price it was until the 80 s an easy to buy alcoholic beverage that gave people with lower income the opportunity to have wine on their table. The 1980 s was a decade of change in people s lifestyle with an emphasis on healthier habits and thus, consuming healthier products. Discussion According to the Wine Institute the dessert wine segment is 8% of the total U.S. wine sales, with Gallo controlling 16.1% of the segment (Wine Institute). The key success factors in the dessert wine segment have been the placement of this product. Supermarkets, corner liquor stores, and warehouse clubs all carry it. These wines were the beginning of Gallo and it was not until the late 70 s that Gallo started producing premium wines and wine coolers. At first the premium wines were marketed without Gallo s name on them but as years have passed and Gallo s various premium wines have won major awards, the Gallo name became associated with the premium wines, and not the dessert wines. While there is not a strategic fit per se between the two there is an economy of scale present and both Gallo and the liquor distributors / retailers benefit by the company offering a wide range of products, which helps with bracket buying, merchandise assistance, and signage. According to Times Magazine, Gallo s dessert wine accounts only for 3% of its total wine sales ever since the company transitioned to higher quality wine products (Times Magazine). However, dessert wines, despite the criticism they encounter, have a sweet and more palatable taste which allows for an easy entry for new drinkers to the wine ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Cranial Structure The primary structure in the cranial cavity is the brain which has a mass around 1300 grams and make up by approximately 100 billion neurons and 10 to 50 trillion neuroglia in adults (Tortora and Derrickson, 2011). The weight of the brain increases rapidly during the first four years of life and reaches the maximum weight around twentieth years (Gallucci et al., 2005). The brainis the portion of central nervous systemthat act as control center for registering sensation correlated with one another and with stored information, decision making, and actions. This is because over the years dating back to 1852 they have been pioneers in both their product production and distribution. Over the years they have faced a lot of criticism and setbacks. Most notably during Prohibition from 1920 through the early 1930s. In 2008 they were bought by the European company InBev and currently hold 49.6% of the market share. Today through the modern era they have also been one of the most successful companies when it comes to marketingtheir products. After World War II, Anheuser Busch entered into a time of prosperity and growth. In 1955, August A. Busch, Jr. made a personal television appearance to introduce the first successful new beer brand since Prohibition, Busch Bavarian. To help market the brand, August Jr. tied Busch to America s national pastime: baseball. In the 1950s, Anheuser Busch tapped into the growing medium of television and became the first brewery to sponsor a network television show, The Ken Murray Show, on CBS in 1950. Popular campaigns, such as Pick a Pair, which urged customers to buy not one but two six packs at a time, helped make Anheuser Busch the leading U.S. brewer in 1957 a position it retains today. In the 1970s, advertising featuring memorable slogans helped keep Anheuser Busch s products in the forefront of consumers minds. It can create mild symptoms or some that are chronic, even debilitating. Regardless, procrastination is something that can be played with. Procrastination is really a form of ambivalence. This is not widely accepted. Ambivalence is when part of you wants something and part of your doesn t want that something. It doesn t have to be two things that directly collide. One of the somethings can be related to the other, just not the same, requiring a choice that is, at least partially, mutually exclusive. Ambivalence can be in our awareness, partially in awareness or totally out of awareness. This doesn t matter, because the subjective experience of it is anxiety. This ambivalence aspect actually creates anxiety, but it is of the kind that is not usually related with other clinical syndromes, proper. Social media has been around since 1997, about 20 years. Social media is intended to help people stay caught up with their friends, and family, and also with what s going on in the world today. Social media, however, is causing negative effects on today s teens, such as, causing anxiety and depression, lowering self esteem, and also affecting their brain development. • 15. Coffe and the History of Ethiopia The popularity of coffee began with its introduction to Europe in the 17th century, a time when colonialism had brought many resources to countries like France and Britain. In Europe, coffee was a delicious beverage, and was very inexpensive due to the monopoly of coffee imports from colonized to colonizer. But while tea was still the preferred choice in North America, an increasingly higher tax on America s favorite beverage led to the Boston Tea Party. Tea forever came to be known for the British oppressor, and coffeebecame as popular in the U.S. as it was in Europe. The popularity of coffee remained because the colonies in Africawere required to export all precious resources to Europe. Despite the history of exploitation of resources in many African countries, the coffee industry in Ethiopia has thrived, taking a product that is in high demand and creating a stable economy, leading to the improvement of its citizen s economic prosperity. This is because Ethiopia was one of the few areas not colonized by European powers, letting it avoid the consequences of colonialismand focus on the development of a country. Since the beginning of imperialism, Ethiopia has stood apart from other African nations. Being one of the only two countries in Africa that had not been colonized, Ethiopia had great potential to thrive without the distraction of foreign powers. In this short story, the group of boys who lead the Giraffe around town, act as those who are willing to accept and take the risk of allowing change, whereas the rest of the town reject change by not giving the Giraffe a chance to prove its worth. The Infrastructure Of The Cloud Essay The infrastructure of the cloud provides a multi tenant configuration in which software deployed in virtual machines, is accessed by multiple users concurrently across heterogeneous environments. Though verifying software through evidence can provide a means for trust, the consumer would demand the authenticity of that trusted service. The possibilities for the consumer not able to fully trust are that, there is no governance or authority to certify the resources. Hence a third party authority generally called as the cloud auditor should verify and certify the service instance which is generally termed as attestation process. Principles of Attestation Process The process of attestation is based on five principles [11], which if adhered can guarantee that the trusts gained in the earlier phase are certified for correctness. First principle suggests that the system must be able to deliver fresh information for the appraiser to make different predictions relating to the target s future behaviour. This principle is achieved through verification of the entities immediately after the session is over and for every 6 min. Second, the attestation should be able to provide useful information about the target by enabling local measurement tools to access inclusive details. For useful information about the target the model collects quality and security attributes. Third principle aims that the target system must be able to enforce policies governing the measurements to be sent to each ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Okonkwo fits the third trait with his downfall, and in my opinion can be considered to have two downfalls in this book. The first being when Okonkwo is exiled from the community for accidentally shooting his gun. This represents a downfall because it was an error of judgement towards controlling the gun and it let to Okonkwo having to leave the community and losing his titles because of his violence. The second downfall is when Okonkwo kills the white messenger because it was an error of judgement when Okonkwo killed the man because he thought no one else would and this lead to Okonkwo killing himself. The only limitation is that we only rarely realize the freedoms granted to us in our dreams while we have them. Lucid dreaming is the ability to know when one is dreaming, and be able to influence what will be dreamt. A normal dreamis much like passively watching a movie take place in your skull. In a lucid dream, the dreamer is the writer, director, and star of the movie. Lucid dreams are exceptionally interesting. At the time right before World War One, Russia had a population that was far beyond any of its neighboring countries. However, Russia had yet to fully industrialize. Through a fear of the rise of Russia, Germany decided a war was more favorable than peace negotiations and allowing Russia to climb in power. Dale Copeland and other Realismtheorist s show that World War One was caused by Germany (who was fearing a decline), pushed for a preventative war against Russia and tried to make it seem as it was Russia s fault. Realism is a theory that involves international politics focusing mainly on the role of each nation state. The theory focuses on the motivations of each state by their own national interests and usually disguise these interests as moral concerns (in order to get the citizens on board). There are five major assumptions that go along with Realism. First states are the main actors. In the case of World War One, Germany was focused on other country s rise due to their material capabilities and geographic positions. Second, is that the international system is anarchic. During World War One, there was no global government making sure a war did not happen. Every state was negotiating for themselves, and Germany had no desire for peace. • 37. The Time Of The Butterflies By Julia Alvarez The struggle for equality has existed for thousands of years. The first decree of human rights was drafted by King Cyrus in 539 BCE and is still an evolving issue today (Finkel). The book In the Time of the Butterflies by Julia Alvarez is a historical fiction novel written to tell the tale of the Mirabal sisters and their struggle against a dictator in the Dominican Republic. As women, the sisters were objects of discrimination by the dictator s regime. Their struggle against obstacles forced consequences upon them for speaking their minds in a censored society. Through Mate Mirabal, the youngest sister, we see a shift in characterization from a cautious adolescent to a strong woman who helps change her country. Joining the rebellion and spending time in jail changed Mate into a courageous person. In In the Time of the Butterflies, Julia Alvarez uses the change in Mate s characterization to describe the impact of oppression and people s need to have their voice heard. During her first year at boarding school, Mate is portrayed as a shy girl who is unable to stand up for herself. This is shown when Mate is unable to keep some girls from making fun of her. Her thoughts are written in a diary and they give us insight into how she feels and reacts to certain situations. Her diary is called her Little Book and she uses it to record her feelings when she is teased. Mate writes, And you might not know this, Little Book, but I always cry when people laugh at me (Alvarez 31). In ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Previous studies conducted on Phanerochaete chrysosporium proved that the TNT mineralization to CO2 is approximately at 35% (Fernando et al. 1990), demonstrating that the evolution of CO2 was a result of oxidation and cleavage of aromatic ring by lignin peroxidase enzyme (lignolytic activity). However, this activity was inhibited by the accumulation of 4 ADNT (Michels and Gottschalk 1995) although in another study it was proved that this inhibition was due to the 4 HADNT (Michels and Gottschalk 1995). Both NAD(P)H dependent nitroreductase and lignin peroxidase enzymes are non specific (Press 2001, Khan et al. 2013) and they are very important in TNT degradation and removal from contaminated environment. The gap between illusion and reality has been bridged, as Lars realizes his true wants and needs after he creates and ultimately destroys Bianca. Lars is now able to have intimate moments with people and be able to touch them without feeling pain. This is most evident in the bowling scene with Margo. Margo invites him to go bowling with her, and Lars comments that Bianca is unable to come because of a meeting. Usually, Lars would reject any social gathering, especially without the accompaniment of Bianca, though this time he accepts. Lars becomes a participant rather than just an observer. He realizes that he enjoyed his time with Margo, however he tells her that he could never cheat on Bianca. Lars is still holding on to Bianca s existence, but he feels that he may be ready to let go and have a relationship with someone real. This scene is also where Lars allows himself to shed one of his layers and shake Margo s hand a huge leap in his development. There is, however, a false thaw when it begins to snow again, symbolizing that Lars is still not fully out of his shell, as long as Bianca exists. This shows the main conflict between illusion and reality that Lars must be able to reconcile. In order to have a relationship with someone real, he must let go of Bianca. The main factor in the collapse of the wall was the never ending fight of the individuals who had fallen under the communist state. Most of these individuals came together and fought in order to achieve their goal of a non communist state and German unification. The Cold Warwas the conflict between the Eastern bloc (Communist) against the Western Bloc (Capitalist), the separation between them began to be known as the Iron Curtain. The Berlin Wall was physical representation of the war for most people, a city divided into two. This important part of history led to the beginning of the Cold War period and the end. The fall of the Berlin Wall made 1989 the year that changed the world. In The Year That Changed the World Meyer conveys that success is easily accomplished in cooperation rather than separation. Mr. Gorbachev, tear down this wall! President Ronald Reagan s famous expression, when he last visited Berlin in 1987, as a clear call to bring the Cold War to an end. However, within in it there is an added complexity of Herodotus own attitudes towards archaic tyrants versus what the actual attitudes of Archaic Greeks were. As for traditions, Archaic tyrants cannot be accurately confined to singular traits or patterns of operations. Lineages of tyrants, the Kypselids and Pisistratids, do not have an overarching flavor, the rulers vary. Additionally, singular rulers, such as Polycrates, have variations in their description. A key passage from Histories that best summarizes Herodotus attitudes towards tyranny is the beginning of Sosicles speech to the Spartans, who are considering reimplementing tyranny in Athens. • 50. Analysis Of Rappaccini s Daughter By Nathaniel... At first glance, Rappaccini s Daughter, by Nathaniel Hawthorne, is a tragic love story that ends in the death of one man s true love and another man s daughter. But underneath, there is a dark undercurrent that is characteristic of the Gothic Romantic strain. This is not so much a story of love and loss as it is of two scientists desire to come out on top and conquer all who try to stop them. It is a tale of man s struggle to control nature and gain knowledge beyond that which we are supposed to have. It highlights a man who seeks to have a deep understanding of Nature s secrets. It is Rappiccini s desire for this knowledge that causes a rivalry with another scientist. In the end, his obsession is what eventually takes everything he loved away from him in a fashion characteristic of the Gothic Romantic strain. The Gothic Romantic writers primarily focus on the darker side of things. Nature is a destroyer. Additionally, the hero/heroine is solitary and often controlled by extreme emotions. There are characters who attempt to gain absolute knowledge of Nature and bend that knowledge to their will so they can essentially become like God. These themes are quite prevalent in Rappaccini s Daughter. One of the characters, Giovanni Guasconti, is alone in Naples. Beatrice has absorbed the poisons from the plants around her. This effectively cuts her off from the rest of the world. Her very touch harms the skin of the other person (12). When Giovanni first ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Some may be feelings of joy or pleasure, while others are emotions of sadness, pain or frustration. Typically, we relieve our emotions through writing, by talking to therapists, possibly doing yoga, or even sleeping. Well, back in 1800s, most slaves didn t have the luxury to learn how to read or write. They were whipped for sleeping, as they worked most hours of the day and they definitely didn t have any therapists to talk to. This made the slaves release their emotions in more unconventional ways, such as singing. This is described in the poem Sympathy by Paul Laurence Dunbar, which is about the imprisonment of the life of a slave and excerpt from Narrative (pages 8 9) by Frederick Douglass, a personal insight to Douglass horrid life as a slave. Both texts convey the central idea that during times of sorrow, slaves would sing to release their pain and misery. These songs they sung were not songs of joy. Sympathy by Paul Laurence Dunbar depicts the idea of slaves singing for their sorrow and releasing their emotions by using an extended metaphor which carries the entire poem. The caged bird, referenced throughout the entire poem, are the slaves. Trapped up with no escape, not able to break free.
