Head Start Observation
As I finish up my last two hours at the Early Childhood Center that resides on the university s

How Did The Mistakes King Louis Xvi Made
Of all of the mistakes king Louis XVI made, whether it be not taxing the rich, his frivolous
spending and just overall weakness, I think the worst mistake he made was trying to flee the
country. With the country already on edge from the revolution and the fact that the people who
hated you the most and you screwed over the most were the ones in charge,it kind of seemed like
a bad time to flee the country. But let s give King Louis XVI the benefit of the doubt, maybe he
was getting overwhelmed with the fact his power was being ripped from his hands. Even though
his power was getting ripped from his hands because of the mistakes he himself made. He did
things like making the voting of the National Assembly unfair to a huge amount of

Retinoid Inhibits Nrf2 Signaling Pathway through Retinoic...
Retinoids, natural and synthetic signaling molecules that are structurally related to vitamin A.
Compounds such as retinol, retinal, retinoic acid, retinyl esters and other derivatives are considered
under the group of retinoids. Retinoids are significantly considered to be the most prominent
regulators of several essential biological functions. For instance, active derivative of retinol
(metabolite of Vitamin A) such as retinoic acid (RA) plays a major role in vision, cell
differentiation, tissue homeostasis, apoptosis, organogenesis, regulation of immune system and
embryonic pattern formation(1). In addition RA is also considered to be a potent chemopreventive
and tumor suppressive agent because of its apoptotic and anti oxidant... Show more content on

These isoforms are formed because of differential usage of promoters and alternative splicing

organization. Based on homology with other nuclear receptors, RAR and RXR receptors
consists six conserved regions known as A F. The N terminal region contains two domains (A
/B) are designated as AF1 and they are the least conserved domains and highly variable in length
which exhibit a ligand independent transactivation activity. So far, there is no three dimensional
structure has been predicted for A/B domain. (9). Central region C possess DNA binding
domain (DBD) which is said to be the most conserved region and possess similarity in their
structure. DBD contains an important short motif known as P box which is responsible for
direct DNA interaction and detection of specificity for DNA binding. DBD also possess
additional sequences that are required for the homo or heterodimerization of nuclear receptors. A
pair of zinc fingers present in domain C is critically responsible for DNA specific contacts and
interaction. Domain D is the less conserved domain among nuclear receptors which acts as a
flexible hinge in between two domains such as C (DBD) and E (LBD) domains. In addition,
domain D possesses the nuclear localization signal (NLS) that regulates the sub cellular distribution
of nuclear receptors. The E region contains ligand binding domain (LBD) is

Never Let Me Go Cloning
Cloning is the process of replicating biological tissue and cells, resulting in identical genetic copies.
In recent years, the possibility of human cloning has led to many controversies; these controversies
have become the focus of several novels that include imaginary characters as clones. Written by
Kazuo Ishiguro, the novel Never Let Me Goportrays the life of human clones in a bleak world
through the eyes of Kathy, where the sole purpose of the clones lives is to donate their organs.
Clearly, the human clones are known by all members of the society, but they are not treated with
dignity and respect like other humans. The human clones possess no human rights from the
moment of their birth . Furthermore, the characters struggle with finding... Show more content on

For instance, Kathy and Tommy learn the possibility of deferral which allows two clones to
delay the process of donations if they can prove they are truly in love. However, when they go to
the home of Miss Emily, they are told that the deferrals are purely an imagination of the students.
Since Tommy and Kathy are denied, they decide to spend their precious but little time together
peacefully; they give up right away as they have been raised to believe that obeying the
guardians is the natural way of living their lives. Even if they have an opinion how they desire to
live, their lives are set out for them no matter how much they dream (Ishiguro). As an illustration,
Ruth, Kathy s best friend, dreams of being an office worker, though her dream is proven to be
shallow and unachievable. By the end of the novel, Ruth also puts aside the past and her hopes for
the future; calmly, she waits for her donations and completion. In short, the life of the human clones
are chosen before they exist, and they have no choice in how to live and end their

Ambrose Bierce s An Occurrence At Owl Creek Bridge
Ambrose Bierce
Author, Ambrose Bierce, who is considered one of the Great American authors, wrote during the
realism period. Particularly, in his work titled An Occurrence at Owl Creek Bridge, written in 1890,
we can see evidence of the characteristics, themes and style identified with the realism movement
which was extant in American letters between 1850 and 1900. As a representative of such a
movement, Ambrose Bierce, then remains on the most identifiable and iconic writers of his time.
Ambrose Bierce was born on June 24, 1842 in Meigs County, Ohio. He later disappeared in
Chihuahua, Mexico while traveling to gain first hand experience. It is believed that he died there
at around the year 1914. He grew up poor, but his parents, who were also writers, inspired him to
create a passion for reading and writing. Later on in his life, Bierce enlisted in the Union Army
during the American Civil war. One battle that really inspired Bierce to write short stories was the
Battle of Shiloh; from there, he wrote the memoir What I Saw of Shiloh . On ... Show more content

Problem With The Problem Of Evil
The Problem with the Problem of Evil
I am arguing that the Logical Problem of Evil (LPE) is not a successful argument to reject the
existence of God. This is due to the LPE arguing with an inaccurate definition for the word good .
With the correct definition of good, I will show that an all good and all powerful God can logically
exist simultaneously with evil. A response for my objection could be the Furthermore, if we allow
the inadequate use of the word evil , the LPE still does not constitute the immediate rejection of the
existence of God due to the concept of free will. A response to this objection is that individual
humans are not free and are therefore not morally responsible for their actions. However, I will
show that this response fails to disprove the existence of God.
Logical Problem of Evil In the article Evil and Omnipotence , J. L. Mackie argues his version of the
LPE. He defines evil to be concepts that good can abolish or get rid of. For the sake of this paper I
define Mackie s concept of evil as pain and suffering. In Evil and Omnipotence Good is defined to
be the taking away of pain and suffering. This definition of good and evil allows this argument to
become valid :
1.God is all powerful and all good
2.Evil exists _
3.God Doesn t exist
The above argument is valid due to the logic that an all powerful and all good God would be able
to and should eliminate all the evil in the world. However, since pain and suffering (evil)

Lord Of The Flies Simon Character Analysis
In the novel, Lord of the flies, written by William Golding illustrates symbolism through the life of
the boys; therefore we have simon s isolation and piggy s intelligence and jacks chaos.
Body 1 simons isolation
Simon, one of the main characters because of who he is and his feelings toward the whole thing.
He becomes isolated which is important because it shows how he feels. Simon is symbolized as
things such as depression and loneliness which is very important, in the book because there is one
point where simon says to the boys on the beach, which means that he thought about it while the
others did not think about it. He thought about the problem and the things that the boys did he
becomes the beast himself. The story states, maybe we are the beast (Golding). This shows that
simon has thought about it and is thinking about it more as he moves forward and ends up putting
on the pig to show everyone how he feels but ends up getting killed. Simon shut people out because
he was torn between doing the right thing and not doing the right thing. He understands that if he
just goes away that he won t have to be torn. Which shows that he would rather step back and think
and look then to just jump to conclusions. Simon is mature for doing what he did.
This is very important because it shows that people that you say you can trust you can t and they
stab you in the back. Simon is a very important person in the book and always will be. He

Patronus: Augmented Privacy Protection for Resource Publication in Online Social
Networks[SR1] With the popularity of on line social networks and the wide spread of smart
phones, it is becoming more and more frequent and convenient for individuals to share resources,
such as status, texts, photos, videos, and so on, with their friends over online social networks.
Since online resources might involve several users at the same time, it is not enough to protect
the privacy of users with the simple group based access control model (GBAC), which only
regards privacy requirements of the resource owner. In order to provide augmented privacy
protection for resource publication in on line social networks, this paper proposes the concept of
resource involvers and a new access model named Patronus[SR1], in which, the privacy
requirements of the resource owner and its corresponding involvers are both taken into
considerations. Patronus employs a

Music instruments are one of the most influential characteristics that define music culture and how
it feels. Consequently, Spanish flamenco has unique feeling for its main music instruments: cajon,
guitar, voice, hands (AKA palmas), castanets, and dancers feet. Cajon
Cajon is a percussion instrument, typically a cuboid, introduced in flamenco music in 1970s (
Instruments of the World Cajon). Five sides of the cajon are made mainly of thick pine or other
white wood. The sixth side (striking surface) is made of plywood and it is named tapa and has a

heavily on spontaneity and improvisation resulting in an entertaining one man show ( Flamenco
Guitar ). Compared to classic guitar, the Spanish guitar is usually lighter and features smaller
dimensions, this results in sharper, and metallic timbre ( Flamenco Guitar ).

Catherine Fordham Consomme Essay
A woman fights off an attacker while walking alone at night in Catherine Fordham s ConsommeМЃ.
(Just quickly, I want to say that this film does deal with sensitive material relating to sexual
harassment and sexual assault, and I don t want this film to have a negative impact on anyone
reading this review.)
ConsommeМЃ begins with a young woman leaving an apartment building late at night after a
fight with someone. She begins walking briskly through the streets of Brooklyn. The viewer then
sees this same woman slowly waking up in a brightly lit bedroom, which is what reveals that this
short film will be told through a series of flashbacks.
During the woman s flashbacks to her walk the night before, the audience hears lots of loud city
noises ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Either she doesn t sense his presence or she s trying to ignore it because she s sure she s being
paranoid. However, when the man grabs her, her fear and the audience s fear is realized. He drags
her into an alley and begins attacking her.
In contrast to the dark, foreboding, dangerous night flashbacks, the current shots of the woman
waking up are all well lit, bright with sunshine, and full of light colors. They are quiet and
peaceful. However, the woman s face and body are beaten up pretty badly. She has cuts and
bruises on her legs and face, reminding the viewer of the brutal attack she endured the night
before. At this point in the film, the viewer still doesn t know exactly how the attack will end will
the man just beat her up? Will he rape her? Will she have to go to the hospital?
The final flashback moment I will discuss, so as not to give away the ending, is the moment this
woman realizes she is going to be sexually assaulted. Prior to this, the man had been just beating
her up in the alley. He was kicking her and throwing her around. However, he pins her up against
a vehicle in the alley and the woman hears him begin to undo his belt buckle. When she realizes
what is about to happen, she goes into pure survival and fight mode. That s where I ll leave off

Visual Representations Of Maori Women Essay
This essay examines visual representations of Maori women within the photographic domain. I will
examine and compare three examples of how Maori women were represented within the European
domain in the early twentieth century paying particular attention to the research done by Jacqui
Sutton Beets in her book ?Bitter Sweet: Indigenous women in the Pacific?. Investigating the
meanings and functions based on the ideologies of the time as well as the importance these
representations have held within a social and cultural context for Maori Women and cultural
identity. In comparison I will also examine two Maori artists that have represented Maori women
within the contemporary domain and how the codes and conventions used in portrait photography
have transformed the stereotype construct of early colonial imperialism.
Early representations of New Zealanders are often associated with the notions of hardworking, no.8
wire thinking people that live in an untouched natural environment. These generalisation?s stem
from stereotypes that derived from the pioneers who came to New Zealand and colonized an
undiscovered land and developed a nation. Arguably this is the western view of what New Zealand
identity is. Social change over time has seen New Zealanders transform from a nostalgic L P
commercial (which ironically mainly show white men) into a multi cultural, sophisticated,
adventurous people or as Prime Minister John Key has been quoted ?loyal and proud?. A romantic

Essay about Of Ideas, the Mind, and the Universe
Perception is a concept that we take for granted in our everyday lives. We assume that what we
perceive are the physical properties of the objects we encounter. George Berkeley, through his work
Three Dialogues Between Hylas and Philonous , questions these notions of what is truly real.
Berkeley voices his opinion through the character Philonous, who assumes a very similar role to
Socrates in the Platonic dialogues. First, it is necessary to distinguish between different types of
sensory perceptionfor clarity s sake. Philonous systematically shows where all sensory perceptions
break down to qualia within the mindin the beginning of his dialogue, first with secondary qualities,
and then primary qualities. To explain our senseof objective... Show more content on

Hylas believes that heat is inherent within the object (and is thus an example of one of Locke s
primary qualities), but Philonous presents him with a simple thought experiment which dispels
Hylas belief: Supose now one of your hands hot, and the other cold, and that they are both at once
put into the same vessel of water, in an intermediate state; will not the water seem cold to one hand
and warm to the other? Here, Philonous has given an example of two opposite sensations arising
from the same object, which, if we assume heat to be a property inherent of the object, creates a
contradiction. Therefore, Philonous concludes that heat cannot be a sensible quality. Philonous
gives another example, in which he says that if one pricks their finger with a pin, the pain
obviously occurs from the prick, not a property inherent in the pin. He presents this as analogous to
the fire, and claims that it is just as absurd to say that the pain from a burn, which he equates with a
great heat, is inherent within the fire as it is to say that pain is inherent within the pin . Philonous
uses this technique of pleasure and pain existing within senseless objects in order to debunk a
number of other sensory perceptions, including sweetness, bitterness, and odour . As for sound,
Hylas admits that the sensation of sound occurs within the mind, but that it is based upon the
movement of air. Philonous refutes

Male Gaze Essay
Assignment: How have women been portrayed through photography?
16/01/2009
How have women been portrayed through photography?
The gaze deals with how the audience views the people presented in visual culture, in this case,
adverts, magazines and Cinema. The male gaze is the male ability to exercise control over
women by representing them in visual means as passive, sexual objects of male desire. The
power of men over women has always existed. They are seen as the more powerful and clever
species. This control over women has been seen predominately in linguistics senses in past times.
It is clear that there are more derogatory terms for women than there are for men. Men can also

With the photographs she takes of herself, she impersonates various characters and shows us the
numerous roles women play in our world. In her pictures she depicts women as housewife, sex

The characters Sherman portrays, lighting, clothing and expressions are clichГ© of what is present
in cinema, so much that viewers of her work have told Sherman that they remember the movie that
the image is derived from, yet Sherman having no film in mind at all.[iv] Thus showing that her

Laura Mulvey understands Sherman s Untitled Film Stills as to be rehearsing this structure of the

It intrudes into moments in which she is ungraded, sometimes undressed, absorbed into her own

and she is suddenly startled by the presence, unseen and off screen watching her. [v]

Procedure
We started this experiment by conducting magazine training with Sniffy. The Magazine training
technique was used in order for Sniffy to make the association between the sound of the food
hopper with food. Every time Sniffy approached the food hopper a food pallet would be
delivered through the pressing of the space bar. We waited until the Sound Food bar association
on the Operant Associations mind window reached 3/4 s of the way. This meant that the
association between sound and food was strong enough to begin helping shape Sniffy s behavior.

Alexander s Exploration Of The English Reformations
Alexander begins his exploration of the English Reformations by addressing that the conversion of
England from Catholicism to Protestantism was not a nice transition and does not have set
beginnings and endings. He questions how long it took for the protestants to finally have success
and also if the method of negation of coercion was more effective. Alexander then addresses the
questions if the Protestant reformations occurred from the top down, origination with the
leadership, or bottom up, originating from the peasants in society. He also addresses the change
came about through conversion or coercion.
Alexander references Dickens, another historian, who states that the reformation was gradual
conversion because the Catholic church had been ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He was able to figure out that as time progressed there were fewer and fewer people identified as
Catholic and those who did tended to hide it so it was not very apparent. Alexander also took
into account that the scribes who recorded the will could be bias and concluded that many scribes
skewed what they wrote in accordance with their own personal religious beliefs. Alexander bring
up many other problems with using will to track the reformation such as the fact that there was
often a certain formula that many used to write their wills which could have skewed the results as
well as that many times wills didn t accurately represent the person and probably aren t a very
good source to gauge how quickly the population England reformed.
Overall Alexander dismisses wills as being used as the sole gauge for the course of the
reformation nut reaffirms that they still hold some value. HE says that historians would not put so
much emphasis on wills and maybe search for other documents as an in depth analysis on these
dead people could cause confusion and false

Islamophobia is a convenient label used to explain why Muslims are not flourishing in American

Compare And Contrast The United States Vs The Congo
United States Versus the Congo
Do you ever think about how lucky you are? You should. You live in one of many countries that
cares for its citizens. Living in America you have opportunities that other countries will never
have. For example, there are many third world countries that struggle daily to keep multiple
citizens alive. These citizens have to fight for their lives and sometimes never get any form of
medical help. Whereas in America we have many different resources that allow us to be a strong
world power, if we lost citizens by the hundreds weekly we would be a country in need. Many
countries in Africa are considered third world countries because they are overpopulated and under
developed.
The Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), located in Central Africa, struggles daily because
the government fails. The country has been in civil conflicts for nearly a decade, this however is
not the main health hazard. In the 16th and 17th centuries, the Congo was a popular location for
slave trade, while foreign powers intruded they also exposed the area to their diseases that have
remained for centuries. These diseases have developed ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

diseases, unlike the DRC, who can only succumb to these diseases. A lot of these diseases can be
prevented by vaccinations. The medical organizations in both the United States and the
Democratic Republic of the Congo, are spreading awareness for the need of vaccinations. These
vaccines, allow your body to fight off deadly diseases, but being vaccinated is very important.
They allow you to continue your daily life. These vaccines however do not help those who are

Closed Circulatory System
The earthworm has a closed circulatory system. Which means that it has the blood closed at all
times within the vessels. Three main vessels supply the blood to the organs. These organs are
ventral blood vessels, dorsal blood vessels, and aortic arches. The ventral blood vessels carry blood
to the worm s body. Dorsal blood vessels carry blood to front of the worm. Kind of like a human
heart, the aortic arches pump blood into the dorsal and ventral blood vessels.
Earthworms breathe though out their skin and do not have lungs. To breathe, oxygen and carbon
dioxide pass through the worm s skin by diffusion. For diffusion to happen the worm must keep its
skin moist and live in moist soil. Worms have the ability to detect light even though they

people who cry for you when one of your special items disappear. when you dont have enough

The Three Main Causes Of The Civil War
The North and South citizens were divided because of their huge differences. The tension
between them consisted of having disagreements on slavery, economical and political differences.
The hate and violence against each other later on led to the infamous Civil War. The Civil War,
also known as the War Between States , began in 1861 and lasted for four deadly years. This war
of disputes and misery led to the division of the two nations, the North and the South. The three
main causes of the Civil War between the North and the South were politics, economy, and slavery.
The first main cause of the Civil War was conflict between the North and the South about politics.
During the election of 1860, Abraham Lincolnwas a candidate of the North while J.C. Breckinridge
was the candidate of the South. Abraham Lincoln successfully won with 180 electoral votes.
This caused tension between the North and the South because Abraham Lincoln was against the
expansion of slavery (Doc N). The Kansas Nebraska Act is an example of this. The Missouri
Compromise Line of 1820 was repealed when the Kansas Nebraska Act of 1845 was passed. The
act organized territories on the principle of popular sovereignty. This created a lot of stir between
the two nations. In a cartoon created by Harry T. Peters in 1856, it is shown that Preston Brooks, a
member of the House of Representatives, attacking Senator Charles Sumner, an abolitionist from
Massachusetts, with a cane. This happened after Sumner attacked

Why Is Levi Coffin Considered An Abolitionist
Levi Coffin was a well known abolitionist, and a very important individual to the success of the
Underground Railroad. Dictionary.com describes an abolitionist as a person who tries to stop
or get rid of any law or practice that is harmful to the society ( Abolitionist ). Levi Coffin was that
and much more. He and most of the people involved in the Quaker religion believed that all men
were equal and it was his divine purpose to do everything in his power to help. Levi took it a bit
further than most. He was exposed to slavery at a young age and was taught by his family not to
support it; he took those teachings and applied them to various stages of his life; including his
young adulthood, marriage and retirement (Ludwig). Levi Coffin... Show more content on

with Mr. White for about a year and then returned to North Carolina. He was convinced that
Quakers and slavery could not coexist and decided that he himself would move to Indiana ( Levi

collecting all the natural resources the day before so then on the day that I plan to set up the

I am starting my shift that day I move all the natural resources and the hot glue gun to the art

Kalamazoo Water Reclamation Plant
Wastewater treatment systems are very important to providing clean, drinkable water to its
surrounding societies. These systems also help in the removal of contaminants in wastewater from
household sewage, runoff, domestic, commercial and institutional units. Processes include physical,
chemical and biological manipulation of contaminants to neutralize their effects on the human body
for consumption. There are three main types of treatment, primary, secondary and tertiary, all of
which have separate units and processes that flow in an organized manner to ultimately end up with
recycled potable water.
First in primary treatment the sewage is temporarily held in a quiescent basin where heavy solids
settle to the bottom while other contaminants such as oil, grease and lighter solids float to the
top. Commonly used procedures involve bar screens with washer compactors that remove a
majority of non fine solid material waste. Other airs is added to settle solids for grit removal. Fine
screens as also used to capture the finer waste material that flows through the primary larger hole
bar screens. They can often have two different sizes of bar screens that help in removing as much
sold material waste before moving onto secondary treatment. The finer screens are used to capture
plastics that come into the system.
Secondary treatment removes dissolved material and biological matter that is suspended between
the top and bottom of the tank. Secondary treatment involves the use of

Background Of An Authorised Firearms Officer
Chapter 1
Background
When an authorised firearms officer in the police is involved in a shooting, procedures and
guidelines are firmly incorporated to ensure that investigations are thoroughly carried out.
However, most police officers in England and Wales will never possess a firearm, face a gun or
discharge one as this supports the ideology that police officers in England and Wales have no desire
to carry a firearm routinely (Rostker, 2008, p. 78)
It is not a common occurrence for a weapon to be discharged in any firearms incident in England
and Wales, for example if a firearm is discharged following an alert, over half the rounds fired are
believed to miss their intended target and of those people hit by a round, more than half survive
(Punch, 2011, p. 1). A similar situation also exists in the United Statesof America.
The United States are viewed in the Western society as extreme in relation to weapons and
violence because of its high police response rates to its widespread strong gun culture (Crank,
1998, p. 152). The United States will be introduced as a comparator to this research as it is already
highly compared to other societies where the sale of weapons and its regulation is minimal, with
only local law enforcement agencies setting the policy with no national policing system.
A report released in 2012 by the Federal Bureau of Investigation stated that 410 Americans were
lawfully killed by the police with only one victim unarmed (2013). However, during

turmoil and attributes their growth solely due to the implementation of PTC s Creo software.
This has also enabled the company to create more innovative new models every year. (Shepherd,

The Influence Of Amoxicillin On Peroxidase Activity And...
Amoxicillin has no Effect on Peroxidase Activity and Growth Rate of Raphanus sativus L
Abstract:
The prolific use of antibiotics in agricultural operations is raising concern because it is fed to their
livestock, which is then excreted into the soil. The antibiotic concentration in the soil is producing
antibiotic resistant bacteria. Plants that get exposed to this type of soil get their biochemistry
disrupted. The following study was conducted as an attempt to determine if plant growth rate and
peroxidase activity were two factors that are affected by the presence of antibiotics. To test this out,
a specific amoxicillin water solution was given to eight treatment plants. These plants were then
compared to eight control plants. By statistically analyzing the data obtained using ANOVA, it was
found that the null hypothesis was supported and that the antibiotic treatment had no significant
effect on either growth or peroxidase activity.
Introduction:
Since the discovery of antibiotics in the 20th century its use has widely prevailed. While its
introduction to the medicine industry has brought many benefits like almost eradicating some
diseases, its use is now bringing concern to public health. Antibiotics are excessively being used that
the possibility of antibiotic resistant bacteria is a major risk. One huge source of antibiotic
consumption comes from the agricultural business. Livestock like swine and poultry are fed
subtherapeutic antibiotics as

Polynesians On Easter Island
According to the GFN, Global Footprint Network, humans had used up all of their natural
resources in just eight months. Somewhat how the Polynesians on Easter Island used up all of
their resources as well, but instead it was too many people into small of an area competing for
resources. There is evidence that the island was covered in trees and many other resources
before man arrived. The first European visitor to visit was Jacob Roggeveen and when he
arrived he spent four days on the island and saw a population of about 3,000 people. Four to five
years later, a British navigator, Sir James Cook, arrived on the island, to find that the inhabitants
were almost completely wiped out with only about 600 to 700 men and less than 30 women. It is...

Around the time of A.D 400 the majority of scientists agree that a large number of people came
from Polynesia and lived on the isolated land. To this day, the island is mostly popular for the
huge stone statues called, Moais . Scientists still aren t quite sure how they moved the statues
but they have brought up evidence of Deforestation possibly for lumber for housing which
meant cutting down trees, wood for fires, and mostly for the giant stone heads. When explorer,
Jacob Roggeveen, arrived on the island there were no trees over 10ft tall. The terrain was mostly
covered by the giant statues. According to author, Jared Diamond, a physiologist at the
University of California Los Angeles, has used Easter Island as a prime example of
environmental destruction and what could happen to our society if we keep depleting our
resources. The people of Easter Island wiped out their forest, he wrote in a 1995 article for
Discover Magazine, drove their plants and animals to extinction, and saw their complex society
spiral into chaos and cannibalism. Are we about to follow their lead?
There are many theories surrounding Easter Island. One popular theory is that the rats caused the
island to collapse by eating on the plants. Rats may have hurt the food source but Polynesians also
ate them to survive and the finding of rat bones proves just how much they ate them to stay alive.
Another theory surrounding Easter Island is the Long Ears vs Short Ears theory. This theory
suggests that there was a fight between the short eared and long eared people of Easter Island.

IFE AND EFE OF PEPSICO
1.1THE INTERNAL FACTORS EVALUATION (IFE) MATRIX.

PepsiCo. This strategies formulated tool is to summarize and evaluates the major strengths and
weaknesses in the functional areas of business. It also provides a basis for identifying and
evaluating relationship among those areas of a business.
Internal strength
One of the strengths that can be found in PepsiCo is in term of strong brand equity. PepsiCo has a
strong brand name in the world place and the company is well known worldwide. This company
is the best global brand in the world in terms of value of net revenue $43,251 million in the year of

As mention before, Coca cola has 47.3 percent market share in the country s cola market versus
Pepsi which hold 44.5 percent. Coca cola is also the brand known around the worlds, which are
the largest producer and distributor of ark colas in the world. Even in the current monetary crisis,
the company continues to expand and the financial position shows that Coca cola has a strong cash
position in compare to PepsiCo which the long term debt of PepsiCo is so high.
Besides that, another internal weakness of PepsiCo is overdependence on Wal Mart. Wal Mart
is the largest warehouse and supermarket. Unfortunately, more than 13% of PepsiCo business
revenues come from Wal Mart store chain. Wal Mart has a significant buyer power and can
easily dictate prices over PepsiCo leaving it with very small margins. On top, PepsiCo would lose
13% of its revenue and competitive advantage if the company loses Wal Mart. Therefore, it can be
understand that PepsiCo depends too much on the US market. This is one of the weaknesses that
PepsiCo needs to overcome as the external factors such as inflation can also affect the company if
the company cannot be independent.
Lastly, the internal weakness of PepsiCo is that the company is facing a negative publicity. There
are doubtful practices which accused PepsiCo is using and selling tap water. However, the
company places view of mountains on its water bottle labels. The public claim that the company

Personal Essay On Baking Literacy
Baking Literacy
My experience baking extends back to when I was four or five years old and I would help my mom
bake chocolate chip cookies. These cookies have always been a signature dish of my mother s and
they are delicious. A couple of years later I remember baking an apple crisp by myself while my
mom was making dinner but close at hand just in case I needed help. From these early days of
baking, I learned to follow a recipe with ease and bake almost anything I wanted to that our home
kitchen and kitchen aid mixer could handle. One story that truly demonstrates my ability to bake
is the one I will be recounting in this narrative. Because I have baked all my life I am literate
when it comes to baking. For many years both my sister and I have entered exhibits in the Dixie
Classic Fair. 2015 in particular is a year that stands out because of the pride I felt in my entry.
That year I decided to bake a chocolate pound cake. I received the recipe from my paternal

cake to be produced. Once I had finished my cake, I went over the judging criteria for pound
cakes. I began to grow more excited as I realized my cake was correctly fulfilling the criteria
provided by the fair such as having a slight bounce when gently pressed. Finally, I arrived at the
exhibit hall where I would turn in my cake for judging. As the fluorescent lights gleamed
overhead, I weaved through display cases beginning to be filled with sewing projects, homemade
preserves, and other baked goods. I had only felt excited as I handed over my chocolate pound cake

The Reforms Under The Npm Umbrella
6.04.2015 1.2. Background Healthcare system across different countries has been affected by
NPM reforms. Decentralisation as one of the main reforms under the NPM umbrella has started
in different countries from different positions (Pollitt and Bouckaert, 2011, p. 102). For
example, central government in the UK has praised the virtues of decentralisation, but in the
early 1980s the UK was relatively a centralised country. Administrative decentralisation has been
the preferred form. Few new powers have been given to local governments in the UK. In this
case decentralisation has transferred authority to a range of specialised administrative bodies.
However, the UK did experience a very significant act of political decentralisation when the Blair
administration created elected assemblies for Scotland and Wales. When Cameron became
prime minister in 2010 he strongly promoted the idea of a big society rather than a big
government (Pollitt and Bouckaert, 2011). The precise implication of this were far from clear,
but the general direction seemed to be towards decentralising services and seeking to enlist both
commercial companies and civil society association to take over, or at least share in, activities
previously performed by public authorities(p.315). In the NHS, since its formation one of the major
debates has been the tension between a national and centralized NHS and a local and decentralized
service (Peckham et al 2008). Current debates about the nature and

Summary Of The Argument From Design By William Paley
The Argument from Design In William Paley s Argument from Design he seeks to prove God s
existence by comparing the world and universe we live in to a machine, specifically a watch. The
goal of the design argument is to prove the existence of an omniscient, omnipotent, and wholly good
God through the watch analogy. The analogy tries to say that if we look at the creation of the
universelike that of a watch, we can infer that it has a purpose and a designer. While this seems to
be valid, there are some flaws in Paley s argument that I will point out. Although Paley succeeds in
presenting a well thought out argument that shows order in the world, he ultimately fails to prove
the existence of an omniscient, omnipotent, and wholly good God.... Show more content on

He explicitly states, It is not necessary that a machine be perfect in order to show with what
design it was made; still less necessary, where the only question is whether it was made with any
design at all (Paley 60). What Paley fails to talk about is the presence of natural evil in the world
and how a defective design would to indicate that the designer is neither omnipotent nor all
good. This brings up the problem of evil, which becomes a significant factor while looking at the
characteristics of God. If God is omnipotent and all good then it can be said the world should be
free from imperfections, but it is not, raising the question of whether or not God is in fact all
powerful and all good. Additionally, we cannot compare the world we live in to anything because
of its complicated design. Because of this, when Paley tries to draw comparisons between the
design of the watch to that of the stone, he falls short. In his second attempt to strengthen his
argument, Paley again opens up two bigger holes that demonstrate the weakness in his

Effects Of The Deepwater Horizon Oil Spill
The Deepwater Horizon oil spill, also known as the British Petroleum (BP) oil spill happened on
August 10, 2010. Today, this is known as the biggest oil spill of all time and has affected
thousands due to unreasonable mistakes made by British Petroleum rig workers. The Deepwater
Horizon rig, owned and operated by offshore oil drilling company, Transocean, and leased by oil
company British Petroleum, was situated in the Macondo oil prospect in the Mississippi Canyon, a
valley in the continental shelf. On this day, a surge of natural gasblasted through a concrete core,
recently installed by a contractor, Halliburton. The core of the rig was too weak to withstand the
pressure because they were composed of a concrete mixture that used nitrogen... Show more content

The British Petroleum oil spill damaged the shorelines of four Gulf states. Worse yet, it took three
months to build the relief well to stop the flow. It immediately threatened more than sixty five
thousand acres in four National Wildlife Refuges, home to endangered species. Approximately forty
percent of the coastal wetlands of the lower forty eight states is located in Louisiana, and it s worth
ninety six billion. British Petroleum spent six billion to hire four thousand people to clean up the
spill that year. This contributed more than the seven hundred million lost in fishing and tourism
revenues and the three thousand jobs lost to the six month deep water drilling moratorium

My Fear Of Math
My math level before reading this book was a little bit rough. I have always had a hard time
doing math in school. Most of the things I had trouble with was the fractions, percents, and
word problems. I think this is because of these problems, I have always had a fear of math and
wanted to stay away from math. Everything I tried to do to help with these fears either worked
for a little while or it just never stuck with me. no matter how hard I tried to succeed in math, I
always needed extra help from other people to get me through math. This book was about how
to face our fears of math. It gives us different topics and problems about math to try and help us
become better in math. The problems in the book are on real life situations which makes it
easier for us to see how we use math in our everyday life. The book then goes from talking about
simple arithmetic and other areas of math to talking about teaching it. This book gives messages
and tells you how to solve your phobia of math with simple strategies that you can do. I would
recommend this book to a colleague because I feel this book has helped me to understand math
and become better at doing math. It has not changed my whole phobia of math completely, but it
has helped me to sharpen my math skills in the areas I struggle with the most. I am hoping that
when I recommend this book to another colleague who struggles as much as me or even someone
who excels in math, they will also learn new things and help them become

Mental Illness Defense
Throughout history, people with mental disorders have been treated differently than those who do
not. Those with mental illnesses were thought to be possessed by evil spirits and were put in
prisons and special institutions to separate them from society. Furthermore, mental disorders,
specifically schizophrenia, are a contributing factor to crime. Although someone with a mental
illness may have lost touch with reality, they are still responsible with their actions, and possibly,
the crimes they commit. Therefore, even though an individual may have a mental disorder, they
should not be exempt from the death penalty (Mental Disorders 1 and 2). Although there are many
types of mental disorders, schizophreniais most commonly linked to crimes... Show more content on

The author states, The insanity defense in criminal trials is nothing new. The Babylonian Talmud
had this to say some 1,500 years ago: It is an ill thing to knock against a deaf mute, an imbecile,
or a minor. He that wounds them is culpable, but if they wound him they are not culpable .
(Vaknin 6) If a person is found to have a mental disorder, even if it is a lie or exaggeration, they
will be hospitalized instead of being put in jail or receiving the death penalty. Even if someone has
a severe mental illness, they can still be aware of reality and should not be tried as insane. Thus, the
insanity defense should not be used unless the criminal is completely divorced from reality. As a
final point, individuals with mental illness should not be exempt from the death penalty. Although
there may be a mental illness involved, they are still responsible for their actions and should face
the consequences. In contrast, as demonstrated by the author, the opposing argument states that the
death penalty is not going to help the situation by creating more death:
Pat Webdale puts it this way: Killing another person never brings back the person you lost, and it s
like double doing the crime. Pat traveled to testify against the death penalty in her home state of
New York, believing that they

Aliens Of The Human Kind
Aliens of the Human Kind
A man, marked with the scars of a long dangerous journey. Hot, bleak, and empty, the dry air and
glaring lack of life created a tangible sense of doom. Risking it all for his family, leaving his
country, crossing the border. This man has created a new life, he is now an alienin the land of
freedom and prosperity. An illegal immigrant is defined as anyone who moves to a country with
intent on living there, without any form of identification. Illegal immigration comes into play when
people do not follow the guidelines during the immigration process. Today there are many issues
that surround immigration: reformation of the system, amnesty, and the over effects. This raises
the question, just how do undocumented immigrants affect the US, politically, socially, and
economically?
Many immigrants are currently coming to the US illegally are from Latin America. Back in the
late 1800 s we had a different type of immigration problems with the Chinese. On May 6, 1882
president Chester A. Arthur signed the Chinese exclusion act which prohibited all Chinese from
entering the US (wikipedia). Back in those times there was less sensitivity towards racism. One
thing that was similar between the two times were their motives for coming: money. Although 2016
is different than 1882, we can still look to the past to guide our future.
Immigrants, aliens, illegals, whatever nomenclature you want to use, are a double edged sword.

Hannibal And The Second Punic War Essay
Hannibal and the Second Punic War
Hannibal Barca, lived around 247 182 B.C. As the son of Hamlicar Barca, the general of the
Carthage army, and empire builder during the first Punic war, Hannibal was trained and mentored
by his father. Hannibal was considered to be one of the world s greatest military strategists. This
great strategist at twenty five years of age was the general of the Carthaginian Empire that reached
across the northern tip of Africa. His career as the top military leader of Carthage began at the
beginning of the second Punic war where Carthage fought against the Roman republic.
The second Punic war was between 218 202 B.C. It started when Carthage attacked Spanish

Even with his fast cavalry and strong infantry Hannibal knew that he did not have resources like
Rome. In fact, he was always outnumbered in every battle. Yet despite of being outnumbered, his
strategies helped the Carthaginians win most of the battles in the second Punic war. For example,
in the battle of Lake Trasimene, Hannibal trapped the Romans in an ambush without an escape
route. What he did was to draw the Romans in close ranks, then sneak attack them with his
infantry, and block the way out with his fast cavalry. This lead to the death of 30,000 Roman
soldiers plus a high ranking Roman general named Flaminius. In this battle, the casualties of
Hannibal s forces were only 2,500 soldiers.
Another battle that shows the great military mind of Hannibal was at Cannae. At this particular
battle Hannibal, used his great military cleverness to split up the Roman forces. By doing so he
attacked them from many different angles. This strategy called for another stunning victory for
Hannibal. As a matter of fact, his forces killed as many as 44,000 Roman soldiers. These events
are some of the reasons that made Hannibal one of the greatest military minds of all

Use of Force Continuum Essay
A use of force continuum is a standard that affords law enforcement officials security officers
(police, probation, or corrections) with guidelines as to how much use of force may be used
against a repelling subject in a given situation. In certain ways it is similar to the military s
escalation of force. The reason of these models is to clarify, both for officers and citizens, the
complex subject of use of force by law officers. They are often vital parts of law enforcement
agencies use of force policies. Although various agencies have developed different models of the
continuum, there is no universal standard model (Stetser, 2001, p. 36)
The initial examples of use of force continuum were developed in the 1980s and early ... Show more

Hard controls includes the use of tools such as hand cuffs, while soft controls compares to empty
hand techniques, describing techniques where the officer must engage a resisting detainee. When
escalating, intended submission to cuffs is a feasible way to prevent the need for empty hand
submission techniques which place the officer and the detainee at physical risk. When decreasing,
hard controls (i.e.: cuffs and isolation in the rear seat of a cruiser) gives officers a reasonable and
achievable goal after a dispute with a detainee during which higher levels of force may have been
mandatory.
1. Physical Presence: Depending on the entirety of the conditions, a call/situation may require
additional officers or an on scene officer may request assistance in order to gain better control of
the situation and gain more safety for themselves. Depending on the circumstances of the
situation: for example, depending how many people are on scene with the officer determines if a
larger presence is required. However, if ten officers arrive at a scene with only a single suspect, the
suspect may perceive he is under arrest; as a large police presence can constitute an arrest based on
the suspect s perceptions.
2. Verbal Commands: Stop! ; Put the gun down! ; Please calm down.
3. Soft Control: Empty hand combat technique or PPCT (Pressure Point Control Techniques)

Greek Mythology Influence On Romeo And Juliet
Greek mythology consists of all the cultural stories (legends and myths) that were told and passed
on by the people of ancient Greece ( Greek Mythology 2017).
These myths had many morals and everyday lessons that could be learned ( Greek Mythology
2017).
These stories have ultimately become the basis of Greek culture as well as religion ( Greek
Mythology 2017).
These myths were first developed in a visual form, because only the elders knew how to read and
write, they passed these stories down to the next generation in an oral form ( Greek Mythology
2017). Roman mythology is the compilation of legendary stories that played a major role in the
formation of religion in Rome (Roman Mythology 2017).

An Interview to Compare Adult Learners
The purpose of this 10 minutes interview with three different individuals in age ranges of 20 s, 40
s, and 60 s is simply to give me a better understanding of how and where adult education practices.
With the use of some questionnaires, the three interviews have shown that in different age ranges
view learningdifferently. Everyone can learn new ideas and concepts even with age differences
and economic status but, what needs to be learned and the purpose of learning are different
depending on the age of an individual. The ability to keep information within an individual also
differs due to aging. The interview clearly shows that as an individual age, the ability to remember
facts, dates, and names decline and memory storage is not functional as it used to be. Therefore,
one needs to understand the age range of people encountered in life especially in regards to learning
so that effective strategies could be implemented.

I have acquired many new skills for the classroom, Shadowing for Ms. Bailey class, room 307 was not an easy process but I got through it. Head Start is located on Winston Salem s University s campus in its own secluded area, where students who attend Winston Salem won t bother. Essentially outside of the university the Early Childhoodcenter is placed in a rough part of town. Around you can find low income based housing, run down gas stations and ABC stores around. How Did The Mistakes King Louis Xvi Made Of all of the mistakes king Louis XVI made, whether it be not taxing the rich, his frivolous spending and just overall weakness, I think the worst mistake he made was trying to flee the country. With the country already on edge from the revolution and the fact that the people who hated you the most and you screwed over the most were the ones in charge,it kind of seemed like a bad time to flee the country. But let s give King Louis XVI the benefit of the doubt, maybe he was getting overwhelmed with the fact his power was being ripped from his hands. Compounds such as retinol, retinal, retinoic acid, retinyl esters and other derivatives are considered under the group of retinoids. Retinoids are significantly considered to be the most prominent regulators of several essential biological functions. For instance, active derivative of retinol (metabolite of Vitamin A) such as retinoic acid (RA) plays a major role in vision, cell differentiation, tissue homeostasis, apoptosis, organogenesis, regulation of immune system and embryonic pattern formation(1). These isoforms are formed because of differential usage of promoters and alternative splicing (8). As most, nuclear receptors including retinoid receptors possess similarities in their structural organization. Based on homology with other nuclear receptors, RAR and RXR receptors consists six conserved regions known as A F. The N terminal region contains two domains (A /B) are designated as AF1 and they are the least conserved domains and highly variable in length which exhibit a ligand independent transactivation activity. So far, there is no three dimensional structure has been predicted for A/B domain. (9). Central region C possess DNA binding domain (DBD) which is said to be the most conserved region and possess similarity in their structure. DBD contains an important short motif known as P box which is responsible for direct DNA interaction and detection of specificity for DNA binding. DBD also possess additional sequences that are required for the homo or heterodimerization of nuclear receptors. A pair of zinc fingers present in domain C is critically responsible for DNA specific contacts and interaction. Domain D is the less conserved domain among nuclear receptors which acts as a flexible hinge in between two domains such as C (DBD) and E (LBD) domains. This is due to the LPE arguing with an inaccurate definition for the word good . With the correct definition of good, I will show that an all good and all powerful God can logically exist simultaneously with evil. A response for my objection could be the Furthermore, if we allow the inadequate use of the word evil , the LPE still does not constitute the immediate rejection of the existence of God due to the concept of free will. A response to this objection is that individual humans are not free and are therefore not morally responsible for their actions. However, I will show that this response fails to disprove the existence of God. Logical Problem of Evil In the article Evil and Omnipotence , J. L. Mackie argues his version of the LPE. He defines evil to be concepts that good can abolish or get rid of. For the sake of this paper I define Mackie s concept of evil as pain and suffering. In Evil and Omnipotence Good is defined to be the taking away of pain and suffering. This definition of good and evil allows this argument to become valid : 1.God is all powerful and all good 2.Evil exists _ 3.God Doesn t exist The above argument is valid due to the logic that an all powerful and all good God would be able to and should eliminate all the evil in the world. ConsommeМЃ begins with a young woman leaving an apartment building late at night after a fight with someone. She begins walking briskly through the streets of Brooklyn. The viewer then sees this same woman slowly waking up in a brightly lit bedroom, which is what reveals that this short film will be told through a series of flashbacks. During the woman s flashbacks to her walk the night before, the audience hears lots of loud city noises ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Either she doesn t sense his presence or she s trying to ignore it because she s sure she s being paranoid. However, when the man grabs her, her fear and the audience s fear is realized. He drags her into an alley and begins attacking her. In contrast to the dark, foreboding, dangerous night flashbacks, the current shots of the woman waking up are all well lit, bright with sunshine, and full of light colors. They are quiet and peaceful. However, the woman s face and body are beaten up pretty badly. She has cuts and bruises on her legs and face, reminding the viewer of the brutal attack she endured the night before. At this point in the film, the viewer still doesn t know exactly how the attack will end will the man just beat her up? Will he rape her? Will she have to go to the hospital? The final flashback moment I will discuss, so as not to give away the ending, is the moment this woman realizes she is going to be sexually assaulted. Prior to this, the man had been just beating her up in the alley. He was kicking her and throwing her around. However, he pins her up against a vehicle in the alley and the woman hears him begin to undo his belt buckle. When she realizes what is about to happen, she goes into pure survival and fight mode. • 14. Visual Representations Of Maori Women Essay This essay examines visual representations of Maori women within the photographic domain. I will examine and compare three examples of how Maori women were represented within the European domain in the early twentieth century paying particular attention to the research done by Jacqui Sutton Beets in her book ?Bitter Sweet: Indigenous women in the Pacific?. Investigating the meanings and functions based on the ideologies of the time as well as the importance these representations have held within a social and cultural context for Maori Women and cultural identity. In comparison I will also examine two Maori artists that have represented Maori women within the contemporary domain and how the codes and conventions used in portrait photography have transformed the stereotype construct of early colonial imperialism. Early representations of New Zealanders are often associated with the notions of hardworking, no.8 wire thinking people that live in an untouched natural environment. These generalisation?s stem from stereotypes that derived from the pioneers who came to New Zealand and colonized an undiscovered land and developed a nation. Arguably this is the western view of what New Zealand identity is. Social change over time has seen New Zealanders transform from a nostalgic L P commercial (which ironically mainly show white men) into a multi cultural, sophisticated, adventurous people or as Prime Minister John Key has been quoted ?loyal and proud?. • 16. Essay about Of Ideas, the Mind, and the Universe Perception is a concept that we take for granted in our everyday lives. We assume that what we perceive are the physical properties of the objects we encounter. George Berkeley, through his work Three Dialogues Between Hylas and Philonous , questions these notions of what is truly real. Berkeley voices his opinion through the character Philonous, who assumes a very similar role to Socrates in the Platonic dialogues. First, it is necessary to distinguish between different types of sensory perceptionfor clarity s sake. Philonous systematically shows where all sensory perceptions break down to qualia within the mindin the beginning of his dialogue, first with secondary qualities, and then primary qualities. Hylas believes that heat is inherent within the object (and is thus an example of one of Locke s primary qualities), but Philonous presents him with a simple thought experiment which dispels Hylas belief: Supose now one of your hands hot, and the other cold, and that they are both at once put into the same vessel of water, in an intermediate state; will not the water seem cold to one hand and warm to the other? Here, Philonous has given an example of two opposite sensations arising from the same object, which, if we assume heat to be a property inherent of the object, creates a contradiction. Therefore, Philonous concludes that heat cannot be a sensible quality. Philonous gives another example, in which he says that if one pricks their finger with a pin, the pain obviously occurs from the prick, not a property inherent in the pin. He presents this as analogous to the fire, and claims that it is just as absurd to say that the pain from a burn, which he equates with a great heat, is inherent within the fire as it is to say that pain is inherent within the pin . Philonous uses this technique of pleasure and pain existing within senseless objects in order to debunk a number of other sensory perceptions, including sweetness, bitterness, and odour . As for sound, Hylas admits that the sensation of sound occurs within the mind, but that it is based upon the movement of air. Philonous refutes ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The gaze deals with how the audience views the people presented in visual culture, in this case, adverts, magazines and Cinema. The male gaze is the male ability to exercise control over women by representing them in visual means as passive, sexual objects of male desire. The power of men over women has always existed. The tension between them consisted of having disagreements on slavery, economical and political differences. The hate and violence against each other later on led to the infamous Civil War. The Civil War, also known as the War Between States , began in 1861 and lasted for four deadly years. This war of disputes and misery led to the division of the two nations, the North and the South. The three main causes of the Civil War between the North and the South were politics, economy, and slavery. The first main cause of the Civil War was conflict between the North and the South about politics. During the election of 1860, Abraham Lincolnwas a candidate of the North while J.C. This caused tension between the North and the South because Abraham Lincoln was against the expansion of slavery (Doc N). The Kansas Nebraska Act is an example of this. The Missouri Compromise Line of 1820 was repealed when the Kansas Nebraska Act of 1845 was passed. The act organized territories on the principle of popular sovereignty. This created a lot of stir between the two nations. In a cartoon created by Harry T. These systems also help in the removal of contaminants in wastewater from household sewage, runoff, domestic, commercial and institutional units. • 31. Background Of An Authorised Firearms Officer Chapter 1 Background When an authorised firearms officer in the police is involved in a shooting, procedures and guidelines are firmly incorporated to ensure that investigations are thoroughly carried out. However, most police officers in England and Wales will never possess a firearm, face a gun or discharge one as this supports the ideology that police officers in England and Wales have no desire to carry a firearm routinely (Rostker, 2008, p. 78) It is not a common occurrence for a weapon to be discharged in any firearms incident in England and Wales, for example if a firearm is discharged following an alert, over half the rounds fired are believed to miss their intended target and of those people hit by a round, more than half survive (Punch, 2011, p. 1). A similar situation also exists in the United Statesof America. The United States are viewed in the Western society as extreme in relation to weapons and violence because of its high police response rates to its widespread strong gun culture (Crank, 1998, p. 152). The United States will be introduced as a comparator to this research as it is already highly compared to other societies where the sale of weapons and its regulation is minimal, with only local law enforcement agencies setting the policy with no national policing system. • 34. The Influence Of Amoxicillin On Peroxidase Activity And... Amoxicillin has no Effect on Peroxidase Activity and Growth Rate of Raphanus sativus L Abstract: The prolific use of antibiotics in agricultural operations is raising concern because it is fed to their livestock, which is then excreted into the soil. The antibiotic concentration in the soil is producing antibiotic resistant bacteria. Plants that get exposed to this type of soil get their biochemistry disrupted. The following study was conducted as an attempt to determine if plant growth rate and peroxidase activity were two factors that are affected by the presence of antibiotics. To test this out, a specific amoxicillin water solution was given to eight treatment plants. These plants were then compared to eight control plants. By statistically analyzing the data obtained using ANOVA, it was found that the null hypothesis was supported and that the antibiotic treatment had no significant effect on either growth or peroxidase activity. Introduction: Since the discovery of antibiotics in the 20th century its use has widely prevailed. While its introduction to the medicine industry has brought many benefits like almost eradicating some diseases, its use is now bringing concern to public health. Antibiotics are excessively being used that the possibility of antibiotic resistant bacteria is a major risk. One huge source of antibiotic consumption comes from the agricultural business. Somewhat how the Polynesians on Easter Island used up all of their resources as well, but instead it was too many people into small of an area competing for resources. There is evidence that the island was covered in trees and many other resources before man arrived. The first European visitor to visit was Jacob Roggeveen and when he arrived he spent four days on the island and saw a population of about 3,000 people. The people of Easter Island wiped out their forest, he wrote in a 1995 article for Discover Magazine, drove their plants and animals to extinction, and saw their complex society spiral into chaos and cannibalism. Are we about to follow their lead? There are many theories surrounding Easter Island. One popular theory is that the rats caused the island to collapse by eating on the plants. Rats may have hurt the food source but Polynesians also ate them to survive and the finding of rat bones proves just how much they ate them to stay alive. Another theory surrounding Easter Island is the Long Ears vs Short Ears theory. This theory suggests that there was a fight between the short eared and long eared people of Easter Island. These cookies have always been a signature dish of my mother s and they are delicious. A couple of years later I remember baking an apple crisp by myself while my mom was making dinner but close at hand just in case I needed help. From these early days of baking, I learned to follow a recipe with ease and bake almost anything I wanted to that our home kitchen and kitchen aid mixer could handle. One story that truly demonstrates my ability to bake is the one I will be recounting in this narrative. Because I have baked all my life I am literate when it comes to baking. For many years both my sister and I have entered exhibits in the Dixie Classic Fair. 2015 in particular is a year that stands out because of the pride I felt in my entry. • 42. The Reforms Under The Npm Umbrella 6.04.2015 1.2. Background Healthcare system across different countries has been affected by NPM reforms. Decentralisation as one of the main reforms under the NPM umbrella has started in different countries from different positions (Pollitt and Bouckaert, 2011, p. 102). For example, central government in the UK has praised the virtues of decentralisation, but in the early 1980s the UK was relatively a centralised country. Administrative decentralisation has been the preferred form. Few new powers have been given to local governments in the UK. In this case decentralisation has transferred authority to a range of specialised administrative bodies. However, the UK did experience a very significant act of political decentralisation when the Blair administration created elected assemblies for Scotland and Wales. When Cameron became prime minister in 2010 he strongly promoted the idea of a big society rather than a big government (Pollitt and Bouckaert, 2011). The precise implication of this were far from clear, but the general direction seemed to be towards decentralising services and seeking to enlist both commercial companies and civil society association to take over, or at least share in, activities previously performed by public authorities(p.315). In the NHS, since its formation one of the major debates has been the tension between a national and centralized NHS and a local and decentralized service (Peckham et al 2008). • 43. Summary Of The Argument From Design By William Paley The Argument from Design In William Paley s Argument from Design he seeks to prove God s existence by comparing the world and universe we live in to a machine, specifically a watch. The goal of the design argument is to prove the existence of an omniscient, omnipotent, and wholly good God through the watch analogy. The analogy tries to say that if we look at the creation of the universelike that of a watch, we can infer that it has a purpose and a designer. While this seems to be valid, there are some flaws in Paley s argument that I will point out. Although Paley succeeds in presenting a well thought out argument that shows order in the world, he ultimately fails to prove the existence of an omniscient, omnipotent, and wholly good God.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He explicitly states, It is not necessary that a machine be perfect in order to show with what design it was made; still less necessary, where the only question is whether it was made with any design at all (Paley 60). What Paley fails to talk about is the presence of natural evil in the world and how a defective design would to indicate that the designer is neither omnipotent nor all good. This brings up the problem of evil, which becomes a significant factor while looking at the characteristics of God. If God is omnipotent and all good then it can be said the world should be free from imperfections, but it is not, raising the question of whether or not God is in fact all powerful and all good. Additionally, we cannot compare the world we live in to anything because of its complicated design. Because of this, when Paley tries to draw comparisons between the design of the watch to that of the stone, he falls short. In his second attempt to strengthen his argument, Paley again opens up two bigger holes that demonstrate the weakness in his ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Those with mental illnesses were thought to be possessed by evil spirits and were put in prisons and special institutions to separate them from society. Although someone with a mental illness may have lost touch with reality, they are still responsible with their actions, and possibly, the crimes they commit.
