Comparing The Themes Of Zaymond s Run And
The themes of ¨Raymond s Run¨ and ¨All American Slurp¨ have an impact on the characters of both of
the stories such as Squeaky and the Lin daughter. Both main characters have a desire to fit in with the
average person and enjoy being part of society. However, their behavior does not conform to the
average person instead they remain as individuals that stand out instead of being like everyone else.
By wanting one thing but living another way develops the theme of Squeaky and the Lin daughter in
the reality of life. The themes in both stories deal with family and how we may act when we are not
around those family members or if we have to stand with family members against friends or other
people in society. In ¨Raymond s ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Lin, is the daughter and held to strict Chinese traditions. She has a tough time adjusting to American
culture because she just wants to fit in. Her parents will not allow her to wear blue jeans, but her
younger brother can. She is upset to wear traditional chinese clothing and see her parents allow her
younger brother the chance to get jeans and wear them is tough. The food they eat is different and this
also makes her stand out. Her parents refuse to let her become Americanized and she is angry. Even
when they are invited to a dinner party at their neighbor s house, the Gleasons, the Lin family has not
quite adapted to the american way of life. I cannot imagine moving to another country and wanting to
fit in. Learning a language would be hard enough but to have to live under strict family rules would
make it even harder. That is how the theme of All American Slurp affects the main character or the Lin
daughter. Both these stories show how hard it can be for kids to fit in. The themes of Raymond s Run
and All American Slurp affected the main characters of both stories who are Squeaky and the lin
daughter. Evidence how they were both affected by both themes is Squeaky was affected by the theme
of Raymond s Run because when she got rabid when other people made fun of Raymond people
would look at her in a different way. How the theme of All American Slurp affected the Lin daughter
is since she was chinese her family may have had a contrasting way of life such as food or

The Ethics Of The United States
The organization by which I work was organized over two hundred years ago. As one of the largest
law firms within the borders of the United States, the responsibility of my organization extends to both
criminal and civil matters. The stakeholders represented by my organization are not the typical
investors according to the rules of business. Those dependent upon our services are those who are
warranted by justice to be made whole: society at large. The Firm was created by a Judiciary Act to
serve as the nation s primary source of litigative actions. The Firm has been divided into nearly 100
individual Districts. Each District is tasked with three primary responsibilities: to prosecute criminal
cases, to prosecute and defend civil cases, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The outcome of each assessment or evaluation process tends to directly and indirectly hinge on the
handling and processing of each of these elements. The District is divided into two primary areas and
each area is assigned specific foci to center resources and efforts. Both areas are tasked with
supporting the District by sharing resources, energy, and information. Therefore, the framework or
outline of District as well as the organization as a whole can be analyzed from the perspective of an
open system. An open system as Harrison and Shirom (1999) explains is product by which a whole
entity operates based on individually functioning parts simultaneously in order to achieve the system s
goals. According to Katz and Kahn (1971), there are essentially nine working components of an open
system. These nine characteristics are typically common to various types of open systems and can be
thusly applicable to my current organization as follows.
Importation of Energy: Based on the potential energy theory, the idea of importation of energy
recognizes that energy is delivered into the system through other sources or stimuli. Katz and Kahn
(1971) argued that no social structure is self sufficient or self contained (p. 21). Since the primary foci
of my organization stems to right wrong doings by bringing individuals and organization to the justice
system in order to rectify the situation,

The Importance Of Education In English Education
English Language Learners: Considerations for the Planning and Implementation of Reading and
Language Arts Instruction in a bilingual (Spanish/English) Setting
A great discussion between a former professors, reiterated me of the importance of keeping up with
current trends which continue to support the natural way we learn every day. The area of language arts
continues to experience changes with the growth in bilingual education. Children in our classroom
continue to grow by listening, speaking, reading and writing. Professionals diligently guided many of
us prekindergarten through fifth grade teachers at North Bridge Elementary in a programs utilized to
continue to contribute to the development of language arts in the early childhood of many youngsters
in South Texas. My first summer of in service in 2007, I was encouraged to obtain hours or credit in
the area of special needs, gifted and talented training, and recalled bilingual students being part of this
population, one would serve for many years to come. Not realizing this would lead to a commitment
in my part to a program I used in many ways, Balanced Literacy, not to only service gifted and
talented children, but mostly for my recent immigrant students as well. Like most programs, or
curriculums, it entailed many hours, man power, setbacks and ultimately, achievements. I, along with
many other elementary teachers, struggled to make this a resource which, if given time and
consistency, guided our students to

Domestic Atmosphere In King Henry V
King Henry V s depiction of English nationalism amidst its battle between France showcases the
glorification of war. However, despite the play s emphasis on combat and victory, King Henry V, also
presents a strong unification of the charater s seeking or protecting for what they call home. For many
of the play s characters, the domestic sphere represents an ideal space to which they will return to or
represent though their interactions. The domestic sphere intercedes onto the battlefield providing
context as to what the characters are fighting and dying for. The play s commoners use the tavern as a
domestic sphere which is a reoccurring setting for characters like Pistol and Bardolph. It provides an
ideal atmosphere for their interactions during times of peace as the tavern also functions as the plays
comic relief for Acts II and III in the play. For example, upon entering the tavern, The Hostess makes
reference that she does not house a dozen or fourteen gentlewomen because then people would assume
the establishment as a brothel which is then interrupted with Nym unsheathing his sword (158 159).

Through Acts I through IV, we can see instances of Henry s motivations for starting the war with
France as matters of pride or even Manifest Destiny. However, it is in Act V that we see the fruits of
Henry s labors as the reward for his siege on France is to marry the King s daughter which fully
integrates King Henry s life into the domestic sphere. King Henry s infaution of Katherine which
starts with O fair Katharine, if you will love me soundly with your French heart, I will be glad to hear
you confess it brokenly with your English tongue provides a strange contrast to Henry s battle ready
speeches of Act IV (352 353). Shortly after King Henry s romantic advances on Katharine, the King of

Library Assistant Book Report
My second year as the Library Assistant in a middle school as only proven to reinforce my love for
reading and books. As I begin this journey into discovering how libraries identify the reader, choose
books, and effectively display collections, I am excited to learn all there is about the complicated life
of a librarian.
High risk schools come with many different challenges, one of them being able to select books that
are not too violent, graphic that contain subject matter that is sexually or physically abusive. Many of
the students in my school are being raised by someone other than the birth parents. On many
instances, the birth parents have abandoned the child, are in prison or dead. Leaving the job of raising
the innocent child in the hands of foster care, a children s homeless shelter, grandparents or the gang
member uncle. My goal is to provide a selection that will allow most readers to move outside of the
harsh reality they already endure. On the other hand, I have the delicate balancing act of finding books
they can also relate to. One of the books I can t keep on the library shelf is a true story of a child who
was raised by an emotionally unstable, alcoholic mother, who left her child for nearly dead. The
booked is titled A child called IT , this book is relatable to many of the students and they find comfort

Dimitri Mendeleev a Russian chemist began the periodic table in 1869. He began by rearranging the
elements by their atomic mass. He left blank spaces since there was a lot more discovery to be made
later down the road. A physicist named Atonie Bequerel was the first to discover radioactivity. Ernest
Rutherford was the first to discover alpha, beta, and gamma rays. Noble gases, electrons, protons,
lanthanides and actinides were also discovered by several other scientists. The periodic table began
with just forty seven elements, and now we have over one hundred. We are at one hundred and
eighteen to be exact, and who knows, we may or may not discover more in the future. Who were the

Ghost In The Christmas Carol
In the book The Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens, there are three ghosts: The ghost of Christmas
Past, Present, and Future. The ghosts were sent to haunt Scrooge so he wouldn t be so antagonistic,
dismal, and just plain malicious. I think the most effective ghost that changes scrooge for the better is
the Ghost of Christmas present. The Ghost of Christmas present first brings E. Scrooge to the house of
his co worker Bob Cratchit. The ghost shows Scrooge Bob´s crippled son. Scrooge makes a remark
about if Bob s son Tim is okay. The text states, I see a vacant seat,... and a crutch without an owner
carefully preserved. Stupefaction and horrified scrooge says Oh no kind spirit Tell me he will be

Tocqueville Despotism
Naela Barqawi Sociology 3020
What did Tocqueville see as the main problems facing democratic societies? Why did he think that
America showed them particularly clearly? Do you agree with him?
The main problems Tocqueville saw facing democratic societies were the danger of democratic
despotism, mass society, individualism, materialism and the excessive love for equality. The first thing
I would first like to discuss the democratic despotism. Democratic despotism is a great danger because
it can act as a tyranny. It s not so obvious as despotism by a single leader and because it s perfectly
compatible with rule by the majority. Democracy is a term indicating who is in power and despotism
is a term indicating how much power a leader has. Therefore ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

And this belief is what motivated his deep interest in America, his visit persuaded him that America
had achieved in a peaceful and natural way almost complete equality of conditions. He said if we
understand America, we could not only understand what democracy means, but in a way even take a
look into the world s future. He wrote, I confess, that in America I saw more than America; I sought
the image of democracy itself, with its inclinations, its character, its prejudices, and its passions, in
order to learn what we have to fear or hope from its progress. (Democracy in America Volume I) He
thought he saw the outlines of a new kind of society, which would slowly become that kind of society
for the rest of the world. He saw at first hand democratized society. America became somewhat
apprehensive of what they thought. America achieved its independence and many of the French
supported America. Many Frenchmen learned their lesson when they came here and then they went
back and began. Tocqueville saw the industrial revolution the enlightenment, and the

I. THE MAIN FACTORS LED TO THE COLLAPSE
When the words spread about the large size of fishery, fleets from all over the world joined the hunt.
Every year, the size of the fleets got bigger and every year, the size of the catch increased. In the late
50s the arrival of large factor ships from other countries hailed the first onslaught to the finely
balanced renewable cod fishery. These factory trawlers came from England, the U.S., the Soviet
Union, East and West Germany, Portugal, Poland, and some Asia nations such as Japan and Korea.

In Newfoundland over 35,000 fishers and plant workers from over 400 coastal communities became
unemployed in 1992 (Collapse of the Atlantic Northwest Cod Fishery). * ECOLOGICAL:
The Atlantic cod fishery collapse left terrible ecological consequences. As mentioned above, the
fishing technology was a major destruction to the ecological system by using deployment and
draggers. The huge nets that were dropped and dragged along the bottom of the ocean destroyed the
underlying eco system in the process. The effect of selective fishing on spawning grounds that is,
selectively over exploiting one species in an ecosystem had disastrous effect on the feeding
relationships in that ecosystem. This contributes to the overall reduction of spawning stock biomass of
the targeted species, but also an increase in the number of invertebrate and vertebrate predators such
as crustacean and fish which will prey on cod eggs, larvae, and younger fish. It is a little wonder that a
species like cod, would eventually run into difficulties struggling to survive when its habitat is being
continuously destroyed and the balance of their food chain had been wiped out. III. CANADIAN

Human Geography And Development Studies
In today s world people, places, societies and environments are constantly changing. Both natural and
human created events, shape the world and create strong relationships between the environment and
society. Human geography and development studies are two fields seeking to analyse these
interrelationships and answer key questions about major issues in the world such as poverty, inequality
and conflict. Human geography is largely about studying the spatial aspects of relationships between
people and society whereas development studies focusses more on the way societies function,
focussing on issues such as poverty and inequality as well as the way in which developing nations
function compared to developed nations. Through examples of poverty and inequality this essay will
explain the ways in which development studies and human geography overlap and the ways in which
they are different in their analyses.
Human geography is defined as The study of interrelationships between people, places and
environment and how these vary spatially and temporally across and between locations (Castree,
Kitchin and Rogers, 2013). It looks at how society shapes the environment and vice versa. Although
physical geography and human geography are separate fields they both concentrate on spatial
processes; physical geography more on the natural and physical sciences and human geography on the
way in which human lives are shaped by processes in nature (Castree et al., 2013). A key principle of

The Growth And Peak Stage Of A Business Cycle
Business cycles contain several stages which span GDP and time itself. These stages are growth, peak,
recession and a trough or depression. These cycles repeat themselves over and over through out time
in the business world. The growth and peak stage of a business cycle are when companies are building
and providing great products and services. This is also the period when jobs are most abundant and
harder to fill because job positions are in demand. After the peak stage a risky point in time follows
which is the recession stage. During this time people tend to loose their jobs and it is a much harder
time to find a job as well. The depression stage is depressing to both companies and people because
many consumers lose their jobs and can ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
We entered a depression period and this period lasted longer then some of the other periods in our
history. Many economists wonder why a recovery, which leads out of the depression and into the
growth stage, took longer then normal to begin. When looking back at history, I may have found the
answer. Big spending is required to make companies produce more and the biggest factor of spending
money is war. This paper will examine a close relation in our history of recession, war, and recovery.
Since 1950, there have been many recessions in the US, which greatly affected all Americans. At the
same time there have been innovations, technology, banking changes and political activities which
have been thought to have caused the recessions, and ultimately fixed the recessions. We will explore
a potential relationship between recovery and war as to the potential for speeding up a recovery. Not
too long ago, during the Great Recession of 2007 2009, employment had peaked in the first part of
2008 and then it declined. According to McConnell (2015), In the first part of 2010 job growth was
very slow to recover and economists have been vigorously debating why employment recovered so
slowly after the Great Recession of 2007 2009. The Great Recession began December 2007 and ended
in June 2009 (p.18). Banks had loaned excessive amounts of money to consumers

Colonization Of North America
Prior to English colonization of North America, slavery in Europe was a common institution that
created a social class in the societies of various nations. When the colonization of the New World in
North America began, along with English settlers came the institution of slavery. In the dawn of
English colonization, the practice of indentured servitude was utilized to provide labor necessary to
produce crops in exchange for transportation to the New World, and a opportunity for new beginnings.
As trade in the Atlantic World progressed, slavery replaced indentured servitude in order for African
Chiefdoms to gain profit, and colonial farmers to gain free labor. As the method for obtaining labor for
producing cash crops transitioned from indentured servitude to slavery, specifically African chattel
slavery, slavery itself developed into a staple institution for colonial economies, and set up for tensions
between the small but influential population of slaveowners and African slaves that caused slavery to
become difficult to overcome in future years.
In the eyes of English political leaders, the colonization of the New World benefited the English
economy in ways of taxation, the mercantilism system, and new opportunities for goods to flourish in
English markets. The first established English colony of Jamestown displayed the difficulties of
colonization in foreign land, but the work of John Rolfe to develop and perfect the farming of tobacco
saved the colony. This new

Swing Dance In The 1930 s
There are so many styles of dance that came together to eventually evolve into what swing dance is
today. In the early 20 s and 30 s there was the Lindy Hop, Balboa, Shag and the Charleston. Some of
these dance forms such as the Lindy Hop and the Charleston started as an eight count done in four
steps then it evolved in the 1930 s to an eight count with 10 steps. During this time swing dance had
some substantial changes due to music and regional influences.
At the start of the 40 s the era of Big Bands became very popular and swing dance was easily adapted
to this style of music giving that fast percussion beats in this genre. It brought about new styles such
as the St.Louis shag and the Carolina shag and even stayed very popular till the end of the 1940 s.

Memory Encoding Storage And Retrieval
There are three different basic processes of memory: encoding, storage, and retrieval. Memory is the
process by which we recollect prior experiences, information, and skills learned in the past. This lab
focuses on altering the retrieval stage. The retrieval stage consists of returning and locating memory
that is stored and bringing it to conscious thought. To be able to retrieve this information, one must
know knowledge of proper procedures. There is certain information in our memory that is so familiar
to us that it can be very difficult to forget. The method of retrieval depends on how a person encodes it
from the start. (Rathus, 2010).

Juliet takes her mothers line The County Paris, at Saint Peter s Church shall happily make you there a
joyful bride. Juliet changes it to a negative, responding to her mother with By Saint Peter s Church

against marrying Paris and does not agree that Paris will make her a Joyful bride . At this point Juliet s
mother is outsmarted by Juliet s intelligence and responds with Here comes your father. Tell him so
yourself, and see how he will take it at your hands. This shows that Lady Capulet does not have
control over her daughter and passes it over to Lord Capulet to deal with because she is weak and is
frightened of her husband because he is controlling. Then Juliet s father enters and he is furious that
Juliet is refusing to marry Paris. Shakespeare shows this by using rhetorical questions, by using

From infancy, Y Chun recognized that she was helpless, and this helplessness was characterized by
feelings of inferiority. Inferiority feelings are considered a normal condition of all people and are
identified as a foundation for human striving. Thus, Y Chun s feelings of inferiority are not treated as a
sign of weakness; rather, these feelings encourage her to strive for superiority. Y Chun has worked to
compensate for her feelings of helplessness by striving for competence and perfection. Y Chun is
currently juggling a number of tasks in which she is attempting to demonstrate her competence, such
as going to school, working, and raising her children, and it is likely that her desire to achieve
superiority is contributing to her current symptomology. It is important to recognize, however, that Y
Chun s yearning for superiority does not necessarily mean she is striving to be superior to others.
Instead, it means that Y Chun has been and will continue to attempt to move from a perceived lower
position to a perceived higher position (Corey, 2009). In sum, feelings of inferiority and a desire for
superiority will guide Y Chun s behaviors, thoughts, and feelings throughout her

The Pursuit Of Happiness By Aristotle
The pursuit of happiness is the reason for our existence (Aristotle, 2004) The Greek word that usually
gets translated as happiness is eudaimonia, and like most translations from ancient languages, there is
a loss of deeper meaning in translation. According to Aristotle happiness (eudaimonia) is the central
purpose of human life and a goal in itself (Aristotle, 2004) (Creed, Wardman 1963). Because of this
ideology, Aristotle devoted much of his time discussing and explaining this philosophy (Hughes,
2001). Even though he lived on the other side of the world as Mencius, they both came to similar
conclusions about happiness it is the cultivation of virtue (Creed, Wardman 1963). These virtues when
studied are more individualistic when compared to Confucian or Buddhist ideology. To Aristotle
happiness was not just the not just a result of one facet of life but all facets mental, spiritual, physical
and social (Hardie, 1980). In this way he introduced the idea of that the purpose (telos) of humanity
was to pursue happiness (Eudemonia) (Aristotle, 2004) (Creed, Wardman 1963). In this paper I will
discuss: what Eudemonia and telos are according to Aristotle and why I agree that the only life worth
living is one that pursues his definition of happiness.
One of Aristotle s most influential works is the Nicomachean Ethics. In these lectures he presents a
theory of happiness that is still pondered today (Creed, Wardman 1963). The central question
presented is What is the

Performance Enhancing Drugs In Sports
Political In New Zealand, this year the laws surrounding drugs in sport have been updated so that they
are now at the same standard of those of the World Anti Doping Agency s 2015 world anti doping
code. This meant increasing the penalty of those caught using performance enhancing drugs from a 2
year ban to 4 years for first time offenders. This means that an athlete that is caught using drugs at the
Olympics, they will miss the next one. The laws have also been changed so that all supporting
staff/team members of the athlete are subject to these laws as well and therefore they can receive
banes as well. They also extended the consequences to anyone who tries to cover up any doping that is
occurring. These law changes were set in place to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is because in the sporting environment it is hard to get away from people using these drugs and
the athlete can start thinking that in order for them to beat these people they too would need to dope.
This can have a greater impact in team sports opposed to individual sports. This is because in an
individual sport, the athlete only has their self to let down if they don t perform well, but in a team
sport the athlete lets down the whole team it they aren t preforming at a high enough standard. Also
because if they are in a team where everyone is taking perform enhancing drugs they are unable to get
away from them and are more likely to dope as well. However drugs in team sports come with greater
risks because if one member gets caught using, whether the entire team is or not, the whole team will
get disqualified, not just that single athlete. An example of an athlete was part of a team and used
performance enhancing drugs because the rest of the team was and therefore was trapped in that
environment was Stephen Swart. Stephen Swart was part of Lance Armstrong s Motorola cycling team

A Summary OfI Wandered Lonely As A Cloud
Lost. What a standard term. One that is often associated with a child wandering off in a grocery store,
or somebody taking the wrong turn and not arriving at the correct destination. But the trouble is that it
is hardly ever associated with anything deeper, such as the human soul. Yet the reality is, everybody s
soul is indeed a little bit lost. And if not lost, at least diverted to a path of pure monotony that drives
them to forget the importance of the little things in life. An example of this concept is the poem I
Wandered Lonely as a Cloud by William Wordsworth. At the beginning of the poem, the speaker is
wandering through life without purpose. He is simply living a life that he no longer feels any form of
connection towards. But then he comes across a field of dancing daffodils and his perspective changes
entirely to one of pure joy and ease with his life. Through his application of simile, symbolism, and
personification, in his work, the speaker makes his poem far more meaningful. The use of these
devices helps to shape the poem s central idea, that is when one stops roaming aimlessly through
everyday life and pays attention, they can discover the true beauties that are present in the world and
learn to appreciate them a little bit more.
One of the main figurative language elements that the speaker uses within his poem is a simile. The
title of the poem itself, as well as the first line are repeating similes. The speaker uses this component
in the lines I wandered

Common Insecticides Behavior Problems
The article I choose was Common Insecticides May Be Linked to Kids Behavior Problems by Lindsey
Konkel and Environmental Health News and the reason why I choose this article because I find the
human brain interesting and I like learning about different chemicals and the effects that chemicals
can have on the brain. One question that the article did not answer was that, after saying that more
research is still needed, they did not say how they were going to do further research. The author s
intent on writing this article to inform people that pesticides can still be harmful to children even after
organophosphate, a former chemical in pest killers, was removed and there are still other chemicals
that can cause threats to children developmental growth. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

pyrethroid, a chemical that has replaced organophosphate since it has been proven to cause delayed

experiment are causing quires about whether or not pesticides using pyrethroid are safe.
Researcher s detected pyrethroid in the urine of 97% percent of kids tested and 91% of another type of
chemical found in pesticides. One of the products that pyrethroid can be broken down into cis DCCA

Dividend Policy at Fpl Group Essay
Dividend Policy at FPL Group
FPL Group Overview:
The FPL Group was Florida s largest electric utility group and the fourth largest in America. The FPL
Group had annual revenues of exceeding $5 billion. Florida Power amp; Light Company, the main
subsidiary of the FPL Group had 3.9 million customer accounts and covered a service area that
included six of America s ten fastest growing metropolitan areas.
a. Summarize the key elements of FPL s financial policy and compare it with other relevant firms.
We are commenting on FPL s financial policy from a dividend and capital structure perspective.
FPL has a very high dividend payout ratio of around 90% and has a 47 year streak of dividend
increases. FPL s dividend payout ratio is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This would mean intense competition and may open up FPL to pricing pressure and in an adverse
situation, losses. Such a situation has already been witnessed in California s utility companies post
introduction of retail wheeling in their state.
In light of the situation mentioned above, FPL has to ensure that it has the resources available to meet
future competition where one of the determinants of winning or retaining new business may be price.
Hence, its dividend payout policy must be modified to account for these industry changes.
c. How should FPL choose between dividends and share repurchases as alternative modes of
payment?
The Modigliani Miller clearly postulates that the dividend policy is irrelevant. The value of the assets
of FPL should be independent of the financial structure of the firm. Also, the choice of dividend
payments or share repurchases should not influence the share price as both methods are ways to
distribute cash to the shareholders. However, this is true only in the Modigliani Miller world where
there are no costs related to taxes or financial distress.
In practice, dividend policy will be affected by taxes as tax rates for different categories of investors
will differ. Also, a firm s dividend policy is perceived by the financial markets to be a signaling
mechanism. A cut back in dividends may signify that the firm perceives tough

House In The World By Langston Hughes Analysis
Langston Hughes had a strong belief in writing and sharing what he believed no matter what anyone
thought about him. His work during the Harlem Renaissance and his view of the struggles of colored
and minorities in the United States influenced his work. In many of his writings, it is clear that Hughes
has anger towards this ideal America. He writes in his counterstatement to a fellow African American
poet, An artist must be free to choose what he does, certainly, but he must also never be afraid to do
what he might choose. The expectations and idea of being a white privilege American and chasing
after the American dream is something that Hughes feels strongly about. He feels that no one should
have to change who they are to be something that society accepts. The theme that he carries in his
work is clear, the American dream is anyone s if they pursue it, but the colored people and minorities
are incapable of pursuing such a dream because of this society that we are

The Role of Serotonin in Gastrointestinal Motility
The Role of Serotonin in Gastrointestinal Motility Introduction The enteric nervous system (ENS) is
an essential, independent system of monitoring and control regulating nutrient absorption, secretion,
motility, blood flow, and sensation in the gastrointestinal (GI) tract (reviewed by Beattie and Smith,
2008; Molderings, 2012). The ENS consists of more than 100 million neurons scattered throughout
the gut in clusters called ganglia, which innervate adjacent tissues and organs, including the
esophagus, stomach, intestines, pancreas, and gallbladder. At the molecular level, more than 30
transmitters and cotransmitters have been identified, including serotonin. As is the case with the
central nervous system (CNS) (reviewed by Gillette, 2006), the main role that serotonin plays in the
gut is neuromodulatory (reviewed by Molderings, 2012). In particular, the enteric serotonergic
pathways are important for regulating smooth muscle tone, peristalsis, secretion, and sensation
(reviewed by Beattie and Smith, 2008). The enteric serotonergic system is medically relevant because
a large number of people suffer from gut related diseases. For example, 10 to 15% of Americans suffer
from irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) involving impaired gut motility (NDDIC, 2012). While only two
thirds of IBS sufferers are believed to ever seek care from a physician for this condition, the annual
direct and indirect costs in 2000 are still estimated to be $20 billion dollars. Since IBS is only one

Mathematics Of The Math For Educators
The fraction lesson that we worked on in class has given me a deeper understanding of fractions that I
did not have before. Fractions have never been a topic of math that I have took a liking to. They have
intimidated me for as long as I can remember. I did not imagine in my wildest dreams that there was
going to come a day that I could understand fractions. Being enrolled in the math for educators course
has contributed significally to this newfound understanding. This class has taught me a lot of valuable
knowledge on how you can make fractions easy and at the same time fun for yourself and the students
you are trying to teach. I learned that fractions can estimated, they could either be close to almost
nothing or zero, close to one half, close to one, and more than one. Based on that conclusion, students
can easily figure out which fractions are bigger, smaller or equal to each other. There was an example
provided in class that talked about Irene eating pizza everyday and having to frequently call in to tell
her doctor how much she had eaten that day. Irene figured out that instead of telling him the exact
amount, she would give him an estimate. There was a magnetic circle on the board with removal able
pieces, from here Dr. Math took away and added pieces in multiple ways and would ask if it was close
to nothing, close to 0, close to ½, or close to 1. This helped me visualize and understand what she was
trying to teach us on a deeper level. We also learned that when

Family trilogy
The family trilogy stories The revolt of mother, The death of the hired man, and Neighbour Rosicky
have the same points to discuss, they all have important global society problems. This paper will
determine the main differences and similarities of the texts and answer the questions of materialism,
the woman s role in the family, and the significance of home.
The revolt of mother tells about a woman who lives in a village with her husband and two children,
there some conflicts inside this family. Adoniram Penn, a husband, is a farmer who decided to build
one more barn. Despite the fact, the couple was living in a small, decrepit house, the man wanted to
buy several ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Their desires and rights were not taken into account, as every impulse to a gender equality was
restricted. In the story, we see an absolutely different turn of events. Sarah was not afraid to oppose
her husband and the surrounding society in order to be happy in a new place of living. Moreover,
when a minister came to talk to her, a woman was adamant in her decisions. She represented herself
from another side, a side of a self confident strong woman: I ve got my own mind an my own feet, an
I m goin to think my own thoughts an go my own ways, an nobody but the Lord is goin to dictate to
me unless I ve a mind to have him (Freeman 19). Finally, a materialistic problem tends to be in the
story. We cannot determine that Penns family is poor. However, it did not seem to be wealthy. If the
husband earned enough money, then he can spend money for a new barn and new house. All the
earnings a father spends on a stock, food and kids. He had lots of possibilities to build a new house for
the past forty years. Instead of that, he decided to waste money on four more cows. Consequently, they
should have managed money appropriately.
Another story, Neighbour Rosicky. It tells about a man, Anton Rosicky who found out about his bad
heart from Dr. Burleigh. For that reason, a man gave up doing serious chores. The man easily follows
the doctor s prescriptions as he has a large family which consists of five sons and one daughter. They

Essay about Exploitative Commercials in Children’s TV...
Alcohol. Obesity. Violence. For kids today in the United States, these are only a few of the problems
linked to the child targeted mass media, especially the multi million dollar business television
commercials in children s programming. With the disappearance of a TV free environment, a typical
American kid sees about 40,000 television advertisements each year, most of which are for soda,
candy, video games, fast food and their free toys. In order to collect some information, I sat down on a
Saturday morning on July 16, 2004, and recorded several kids TV ads for further analysis. Needless to
say, the results were quite shocking aside from the obvious, I also noticed that most ads featured active
and aggressive boys while ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
On the other hand, boys are active and assertive, care most about sports and war games. In the Pull up
diapers commercial that I taped, a little girl intently plays with her teddy bear as she waits in a fitting
room for her mom to finish changing. As her mom twirls around in front of a mirror again, the girl
steps onto the pile of clothes on the floor and whispers, Mom, can we go now? The next scene takes
place in front of a public restroom, where the girl holds her mom s hands and smiles. Not far away
from the girl, a little boy holding a Pull up diaper hurriedly runs into the men s bathroom by himself.
This seemingly harmless commercial can actually be very misleading to young children. The mom is
not only playing the traditional role of a housewife, but also suggesting to her daughter that
appearance is very important to women because they have to attract men with their charming looks.
Just as O Connor states, Little girls must be prepared for a life of buying clothes and cosmetics and all
those other wonderful things that will make them irresistibly alluring objects. In addition to the
emphasis on materialism and a need for the perfect body image, it also seems that girls are always
associated with tender loving dolls such as the teddy bear, and toy cars and video games are certainly
out of the picture. The little boy running to the bathroom is another subtle example of rampant

My Dream Can Become Your Reality
THOMAS KUNEMOEMI Your dream can become your reality Everybody has dreams and most of
the people have goals. If we wish our goals and dreams to become reality, we need to move toward
them systematically and purposefully. By nature, we tend to perpetually begin with distance between
wherever we tend to square measure and wherever we wish to be. Our job is to work toward our
dreams till it became reality. To accomplish that, we want to draw our goals and dreams nearer to our
self, whereas at the same time moving toward them. Some people plan to attract their goals while not
taking abundant action. Others like better to act on their goals, however while not the other advantage
of additionally drawing those goals to them. Action alone will bring positive results, however it s
abundant quicker to mix the 2 techniques. For the sake of clarity, let s differentiate between dreams
and phantasy. In some conversations, the 2 can be interchangeable. Not therefore during this case.
Once I point out dreams, I m talking about extremely fascinating goals, future realities that we tend to
absolutely will notice. For our functions, a dream are some things that we tend to square measure
willing to figure toward, and square measure determined to manifest, a bit like a goal. What

Graeco-Roman Tragedies
Lord, what fools these mortals be! The world is a tragedy to those who feel, but a comedy to those
who think. A tragedy is a tragedy, and at the bottom, all tragedies are stupid. Give me a choice and I ll
take A Midsummer Night s Dream over Hamlet every time. Any fool with steady hands and a working
set of lungs can build up a house of cards and then blow it down, but it takes a genius to make people
laugh. The combination of William Shakespeare, Horace Walpole, and Steven King run together to
speak on the topic of comedies. We as human beings, being social creatures, have a need to laugh. We
find many things humours, and there are many types of comedies, as well as uses for the comedies we
make. There are many different forms of comedy from many different time periods which all fall
within three overarching sections; verbal, physical, and literary.
The first of these, literary, takes different forms over time. The majority can be described as Graeco
Roman, Shakespearean, and new age satire. Each of these categories could continue to expand with
the different stylistic elements of each, but we will explore the major points of each. The Greeks and
the Romans were the first to discover many of the things we use day to day, including the begins of
comedies.
The Graeco Roman style comedies took two major forms of comedy. That comedy sprang up and took
shape in connection with Dionysiac and Phallic ritual has never been doubted, (Arnold,

Supernatural Character Analysis
Characters you should know from Supernatural and things about them (MAY CONTAIN SPOILERS)
Supernatural is a show about two brothers named Sam and Dean Winchester, or as Crowley says,
Moose and Squirrel. The two brothers crisscross the country fighting demons, witches and all kinds of
different monsters and ghosts making friends and enemies along the way.
Dean and Sam
Sam and Dean are brothers which means they don t always get along but when they do fight it doesn t
last long because they eventually figure out they need each other and that they are each other s
weaknesses. They are what s called hunters and not just normal hunters they hunt monsters and take
care of them. Sam is 4 years younger than his brother but he is taller and has longer hair. Sam seems
like a teddy bear on the outside but could actually kill you. Dean is the older brother and has short hair
and is only a little shorter. He looks like he could kill you but is actually a real teddy bear. Dean has
been through so much and so has Sam but Sam isn t affected as much. Dean loves pie and Sam hates
clowns, both of these facts are very important. There parents are John and Mary Winchester. Mary was
killed by (SPOILER ALERT) a yellow eyed demon named Azazel (END OF SPOILER) when Sam
was exactly 6 months old which drove John into hunting bringing the boys with him raising them like
soldiers. Dean always followed his father s orders but Sam ran away and went to stanford for a little

As the author states, We live in an age of scientific triumph. Science has solved many of nature s
puzzles and greatly enlarged human knowledge. Yet despite these proud achievements, science today
is increasingly mistrusted and under attack. It is attacked more often because it is misunderstood
(Bishop 304). He believes the solution and invention that science provides to us are more than we
think; However, people start to focus on the side effects of science instead of the advantages it brings,
and the criticism seem like a common practice now. The main cause of this is not only the blindly

the fear. Fear, in turn, is bred by ignorance. And it is ignorance that is our deepest malady (Bishop

belief. They might afraid of the truth that science can find out, because it will shake their base of
religion. In the other hands, if those people still criticize science by their fears, our society is going to

This means that the viruses are not combated in any way, because the vectors are not active during the
cold months of the year. The cold temperature is also a limiting factor of the geographic regions of
where these diseases are found. In the US the primary vector is Culcoides sonorensis. Although other
species of the Culcoides genus are known to be able to transmit these viruses this specific species is
the most prominent. Cold weather associated with the distribution of the disease also contributes to its
impact on wildlife. These late summer and early winter months are vital for deer. This is generally
when female deer give birth in the summer and breed in the early winter. Currently there is no plan for

Leadership And Culture Of The Field Of Organizational...
Leadership and Culture
Ethical Leadership According to research theories in the field of organizational leadership, powerful
leaders can have substantial impact on the lives of followers and the fate of an organization (Yukl,
2006, p.340). Nevertheless, Heifetz (1994) points out, there is no ethically neutral ground for theories
of leadership, because they always involve values and implicit assumptions about proper forms of
influence.
The complexity of issues surrounding ethical and unethical leadership influences, are determining by
the criteria utilized by leaders among members. Emphasized in theories of ethical leadership is
behavior approaches of several identifying leaders: (1) servant leadership, (2) spiritual leadership, and
(3) authentic leadership. Servant Leadership
Several scholars argue about the fundamental concept of servant leadership. Blanchard Hodges
(2005), argue that leaders must first overcome their ego s desire to be served and learn to focus on
serving others. Leaders who are self centered, and sell focused, cannot promote effective leadership
with others. Hunter (2004), argues that leadership is a skill that is learned by first developing a
character that is based on moral maturity and commitment to doing the right thing. As stated by Yukl
(2006, p.357), servant leadership theory explains why the primary concern of leaders should be to
nurture, develop, and protect followers. The direct link to servant leadership lies within the biblical

wide range of metaphysical and non metaphysical solution has been offered. The answers differ based

the riddle and the ensuing debates attest to the veracity of one of the most basic tenets of reader

The narrator is a psychopath with wacky motivations. If we accept this convenient explanation then
we have to deal with another question: could a madman talks with such lucidity and exactness? The
answer that Ken Frieden gives to this question is a positive one. He downplays the contrast between
the sane narrative and mad narrator: The discrepancy between sane narrator and madman perhaps
shows the error of assuming that linguistic normalcy implies psychological normalcy. Friedan took it
for granted that the narrator is mad because he kills an old man for no reason. He is doubly mad,
Friedan said, when he imagines he hears the pounding of the dead man s heart and gives away the
crime he had concealed. Yet the narrator tells a coherent tale, as if to demonstrate out of spite that he is
sane, refuting the ordinary belief that he must be mad. On the other side of the road, there are critics
who are sympathetic toward the narrator and dismiss any suggestion of madness. Daniel Hoffman, for
instance is willing to believe the narrator s claim about the Old man s eye. Hoffman reads the vulture
like eye as a Freudian Father Figure. He takes the old man as a father figure; whose Eye becomes the
all seeing surveillance of the child by the father. (Bloom 53) . This surveillance is, Hoffman writes, the

Superiority Theory In Reflections Upon Laughter
Superiority theory was therefore confirmed by the superior members of society refraining from

feature of laughter is expressing feelings of superiority is. If Hobbes were right, claims Hutcheson,
there can be no laughter where we do not compare ourselves with others or with some former state of
ourselves and whenever we feel sudden glory, we laugh. But neither of these is true. We sometimes
laugh at an odd metaphor or simile, for example, without comparing ourselves to anyone. Not only are
feelings of superiority not necessary for amusement, Hutcheson argued, but they are not sufficient,

Unlike the superiority theory which aims at social reform through the emotional side of humour,
incongruity theory aims at social reform through the cognitive side. The cognitive juxtaposition of
contrary interests and attitudes is the key to comedy in Bernard Shaw. The slum dwellers and
landlords in Widower s House, romantic and realistic attitudes to war in Arms and the Man, external
polish and internal instincts in Pygmalion provide comic juxtaposition and create humour with satire.
This approach was taken by James Beattie, Immanuel Kant, Soren Kierkegaard, Arthur Schopenhauer,
and many later philosophers and psychologists. It is now the dominant theory of humor in philosophy
and psychology. As Robert Latta and others have pointed out, the words incongruous and incongruity
are used sloppily in many versions of the theory. The dictionary says that incongruous things are
characterized by a lack of harmony, consistency, or compatibility with one another. Congruere in Latin
means to come together, to agree. In geometry, congruent triangles have the same shape and size; one
fits exactly over the other (104). Paul McGhee s uses the term incongruity interchangeably with
absurdity, ridiculousness, and the ludicrous. McGhee offers a second definition of incongruity:
something unexpected, out of context, inappropriate, unreasonable, illogical, exaggerated, and so
forth. (10). The core concept in incongruity theories is based on the fact that human experience works
with learned patterns. Most of the time, most experiences of most people follow such mental patterns.
The future turns out like the past. But sometimes we perceive or imagine a thing whose parts or

Opositions to Thomas Malthus Theory on Population Growth
Thomas Malthus was an early 19th century English scholar who specializes in political economy and
demographics. One of his most well known and influential works An Essay on the Principle of
Population argued that the increase in population growth would ultimately create social and economic
problems for a nation. On the contrary, many famous political economists such as Ester Boserup and
Julian Simon suggested different views about population and resource growth; which contradicts the
Malthus theory. Thomas Malthus wrote An Essay on the Principle of Population argued that the
increasing rate of population growth is the impetus of many social and economic issues that affects
our society. His belief was that population increases in geometrical scale whilst basic supply for
humans increase in arithmetical scale, I SAID THAT POPULATION, WHEN UNCHECKED,
increased in a geometrical ratio, and subsistence for man in an arithmetical ratio. (Quoted from An
Essay on the Principle of Population, Chapter 2, page 6) Malthus believed that overpopulation would
lead to mass malnutrition, famine, disease and even war. He proposed two kinds of method that could
keep the population in a sustainable level. First is preventative checks, which suggested using moral
restrains such as the practice of abstinence and criminal punishments for those who had children that

On that foundation, we are pursuing one big, overarching goal. We aim to be the world s strongest,
best and best integrated aerospace company for today and tomorrow. Measured against that goal, 2007
stands out as a year of significant and accelerating progress. We achieved record financial
performance, which reflects the potent combination of good top line growth and strong gains in
productivity. Total revenues rose to an all time high of $66.4 billion. For the first time ever, both of
our core businesses Boeing Commercial Airplanes and Boeing Integrated Defense Systems
simultaneously achieved double digit operating margins. Gains in productivity and performance in
existing programs contributed significantly to earnings and helped offset additional investment in key
growth programs. Our cash flow went from strong to even stronger increasing from $7.5 billion in
2006 to $9.6 billion in 2007.
We also had our best year ever in capturing new business and adding to a backlog that now totals
almost one third of a trillion dollars or just about five times our total revenues in 2007. Boeing
Commercial Airplanes had spectacular success in landing 1,423 airplane orders during 2007, reaching
more than 1,000 orders for an unprecedented

An Analysis Of Catullus Poetry
I have read that you have had a interesting life. I think that it is interesting that your family was not
wealthy, does that affect the fact that you did not get married? I would be really interested if you were
affected by that. Were you really a descendant of Celts and Iberians? That would be cool if you could
date back to then. You were also born along the Salo river? That must of been good for growing food
since you have a water source nearby. I still can not believe that you were in a group, plotting to kill
the emperor Nero, and have encountered the one and only Lucan! You, Martial born to a unwealthy
family, was born on one of Rome s seven hills, Quirinal! That is super cool! You also introduced few
themes not introduced by Catullus ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
You also were a hilarious but kinda of a rude person. When you were writing these poems, did people
approve it ? When would you find the ideas of writing such harsh but funny poems? If you would
think of doing these types of things on you fellow comrades, you would have no friends at all! Have
you ever been acted to like this? Once you have, think how harsh you are to others and how it affects
the people you make fun of! Did you ever think of using kind words in your poetry? That might be a
good idea if you want to be liked by anyone. I know some people, but none as mean or offensive as
you. Even though you had a lot of people not make you their top star, you were still recognized for
your work. If children saw, spoke, or heard your work, their parents would not approve. You made lots
of work that was good, but not very appropriate. Were you made fun of in your past life? If that
happened, that would not be surprising, since you also were making the same type of offensive poetry
as someone would do to you. The life of you is and always was very interesting along with all of the
poetry you create. Would you purposely or accidentally make the epigrams offensive? How and why
did you make so many epigrams? You would be with my angry side if you would insult me once. Only
one insult and I would be extra angry. The people of Rome probably disliked you and your epigrams.
Whenever the people saw you, they would go and think you would insult them and make them very
unhappy. Whenever romans saw you, they would cringe and think they should run before an insult
comes out of his mouth about them from you. Would you donate money to the Commoda? That would
help you and others. Being a person to help others would give you a chance to make others like you
more than now. With the thought of the Commoda, did you often go to the bath houses? The
bathhouses sound very interesting and nice with the cold and hot waters. Why, with the

Prehistoric Man Has Endured Misinformation, Stereotypes,...
Prehistoric man has endured misinformation, stereotypes, and a lack of information. The Upper
Paleolithic Epoch started 40,000 years ago and goes on until about 12,000 years ago and glacial ice
was on the move. Periods of extreame cold were cycled with warmer weather. The habitats of humans
and animals was undergoing great and significant changes. Herds of wooly mammoth were moving
about, hunter gathers were following. Through recent discoveries and expansions on old theories,
prehistoric man began enjoying a renaissance. The Springfield Museum is proud to shed a new light
on ancient man through our exhibit: Prehistoric Man: Addaptor, Innovator, Adventure
Neanderthal
Homo neanderthalensis or Neanderthals existed for approximately 300,000 years and during the
Upper Paleolithic or Pleistocene epoch in Europe and western Asia (Smiley 2016: Unit 1). They were
short, muscular, and their face had a distinctive double brow ridge. They were built to handle the
colder weather due to the glacial era. But temperatures were on the rise, which would create an issue
with the Neanderthal physiology.
Neanderthals engaged in confrontational hunting, which is close up, and a very physical style of
hunting. They would have had to been strong, brave, and have to be very skilled at thrusting spears.
Archaeologists have found evidence of personal adornment: shells with holes which indicates the use
as jewelry, shells with hematite residue, pencils made of bone for body paint

The Importance Of Bilingual In Deaf Culture
My feeling was a bit surprised and complicated when I first hear that deaf parents want to conceive a
deaf baby. Because if I have not taken any classes about deaf culture or prior to reading Candy and
Sharon s story, I would normally think it is unfair to the children to be born with disabilities,
especially when the parents are already deaf who sure know the difficulties and obstacles that a deaf
child will have to experience in the future. What if the child grew up and blamed the parents to make
the decision for him depended on personal preferences and inflicting hardship on him? Because even
though the deaf community exists, the majority of the population is living in the hearing world. There
is still some inconvenience for the deaf people today. However, after I took CSD courses and read the
article, I have changed my viewpoint about deafness. Now I start to understand more ... Show more

Deaf people are not limited by hearing loss and are able to achieve what the hearing people can
achieve. Some deaf people are proud of being deaf not from the medical perspective, but from the
linguistic perspective. Since ASL is capable of supporting the highest levels of abstract mind to mind
communication, it is considered to be a rich language. From the linguistic point, the deaf people are
viewed as bilingual in ASL and English. Unlike others, their first language is ASL instead of English.
There are so many deaf people out there that are teachers, writers, lawyers, doctors, etc. Sharon and
Candy, the deaf couples who want their children to be deaf in the article A World of Their Own by
Liza Mundy, all performed well academically and are graduates from universities. They see how
successful deaf people can be as well as the capabilities of their deaf child. Parents always want to
give the best to their children. If Candy and Sharon searched around and worked so hard to get a deaf
baby, I am sure that this is what they think the best for that

No Emotional Fulfillment in Eveline
Eveline is a story of young love. Eveline has already been courted and won by frank, who is taking her
to marry him and to live with him in Buenos Ayres (Hacker 329). Or has she? When she meets him at
the station and they are set to boars the ship, Eveline suddenly decides she cannot go with Frank
because he would drown her in all the seas of the world (Hacker 329). Eveline s rejection of Frank is
not just a rejection of love, but also a rejection of a new life abroad and escape from her hard life at
home. And water, as the practical method of escape, as well as a symbol of both rejuvenation and
emotional vitality, functions in a multi faceted way to show all that Eveline loses through ... Show

When she fails to go with Frank, Eveline indeed succumbs to the prospect of an imprisoning life like
her mother s.
Water also signifies rejuvenation, the possibilities of a new life. In contrast to her present life full of
hard work a hard life, Eveline looks forward to exploring another life with Frank as well as a new self
across the seas (Hacker 330). Compared to re living her dead mother s life, Eveline has a chance to
live her own life and begin something with Frank that is brand new, open ended, and unstamped by
the impressions of the past. Though she can hardly imagine what her new life might be like, Eveline
knows it will be unlike the one mapped out for her by her father. But perhaps it is the very uncertainty
about her life with Frank that finally terrifies her. Known duty and hardship is finally preferable to
unknown possibility, and as Frank draws her into the seas of the world, she feels at last that it was
impossible (Hacker 329 330). One cannot begin a new life unless one leaves behind the old, and the
seas of rebirth are too much for her. Unable to make that leap of faith, she remains blind, passive, like
a helpless animal (Hacker 331).
Eveline also rejects love and emotional vitality as represented by the seas of the world (Hacker 329).
When she contemplates leaving with Frank, Eveline thinks of home as providing shelter and food

Carmichael s Theory Of Black Power
More than fifty years after two simple words black and power captured the nations attention, many
people still struggle with what to make of them. The concept of Black Power, despite being around for
decades, still elicits ambivalent reactions in different groups of people ranging from outright
fascination to heightened, emotionally charged memories or ideas. Oftentimes torn between
veneration and vilification of the public and private politics of Black Power adherents, much of the
middle ground is still to be conquered by great parts of the public and scholars alike. These disparate
views illustrate that after almost twenty years of revision, the new scholarship on the Black Power
phase of the African American Freedom Struggle has yet ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Published in 2006, Peniel Joseph s first comprehensive account of the history of the Black Power
movement in the United States was written against a historiographical backdrop that paid little or
selective attention to the distinct ideological and activist roots of the Black Power advocates who rose
to influence in the late 1960s. Addressing a narrative that at best illustrated the young activists as
naïve and mislead, and at worst as criminal and self centered demagogues to be blamed for the
dissolution of the interracial civil rights coalition, Joseph centers his works around the emergence of a
rather apolitical Black Nationalism that turns its focus increasingly toward a more activist stance.
Concurrent with the evolution of Malcolm X, the politics of Black Power, Joseph argues, became
more and more politicized, culminating in separate parties, which, independently of the political
mainstream, pursued a politics of African American self determination. In contrast to those scholars
who consider the Black Power phase as part of the long civil rights movement, Joseph defines it as a
distinct form of radical African

Psychological Disorder Research Paper
A psychological disorder is a syndrome marked by a clinically significant disturbance in someone s
cognition, emotion regulation, or behavior. These thoughts, emotions, and behaviors are dysfunctional
and they interfere with regular day to day life. Sad moods that enlarge and become damaging can
signal a psychological disorder. However over time, definitions of what make a psychological disorder
have varied. For example, in the 1970 s, high energy children were typically just viewed as normal
kids running a little wild, but today they are seen as dysfunctional and diagnosed with attention

  • 2. Comparing The Themes Of Zaymond s Run And The themes of ¨Raymond s Run¨ and ¨All American Slurp¨ have an impact on the characters of both of the stories such as Squeaky and the Lin daughter. Both main characters have a desire to fit in with the average person and enjoy being part of society. However, their behavior does not conform to the average person instead they remain as individuals that stand out instead of being like everyone else. By wanting one thing but living another way develops the theme of Squeaky and the Lin daughter in the reality of life. The themes in both stories deal with family and how we may act when we are not around those family members or if we have to stand with family members against friends or other people in society. In ¨Raymond s ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Lin, is the daughter and held to strict Chinese traditions. She has a tough time adjusting to American culture because she just wants to fit in. Her parents will not allow her to wear blue jeans, but her younger brother can. She is upset to wear traditional chinese clothing and see her parents allow her younger brother the chance to get jeans and wear them is tough. The food they eat is different and this also makes her stand out. Her parents refuse to let her become Americanized and she is angry. Even when they are invited to a dinner party at their neighbor s house, the Gleasons, the Lin family has not quite adapted to the american way of life. I cannot imagine moving to another country and wanting to fit in. Learning a language would be hard enough but to have to live under strict family rules would make it even harder. That is how the theme of All American Slurp affects the main character or the Lin daughter. Both these stories show how hard it can be for kids to fit in. The themes of Raymond s Run and All American Slurp affected the main characters of both stories who are Squeaky and the lin daughter. Evidence how they were both affected by both themes is Squeaky was affected by the theme of Raymond s Run because when she got rabid when other people made fun of Raymond people would look at her in a different way. How the theme of All American Slurp affected the Lin daughter is since she was chinese her family may have had a contrasting way of life such as food or ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. The Ethics Of The United States The organization by which I work was organized over two hundred years ago. As one of the largest law firms within the borders of the United States, the responsibility of my organization extends to both criminal and civil matters. The stakeholders represented by my organization are not the typical investors according to the rules of business. Those dependent upon our services are those who are warranted by justice to be made whole: society at large. The Firm was created by a Judiciary Act to serve as the nation s primary source of litigative actions. The Firm has been divided into nearly 100 individual Districts. Each District is tasked with three primary responsibilities: to prosecute criminal cases, to prosecute and defend civil cases, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The outcome of each assessment or evaluation process tends to directly and indirectly hinge on the handling and processing of each of these elements. The District is divided into two primary areas and each area is assigned specific foci to center resources and efforts. Both areas are tasked with supporting the District by sharing resources, energy, and information. Therefore, the framework or outline of District as well as the organization as a whole can be analyzed from the perspective of an open system. An open system as Harrison and Shirom (1999) explains is product by which a whole entity operates based on individually functioning parts simultaneously in order to achieve the system s goals. According to Katz and Kahn (1971), there are essentially nine working components of an open system. These nine characteristics are typically common to various types of open systems and can be thusly applicable to my current organization as follows. Importation of Energy: Based on the potential energy theory, the idea of importation of energy recognizes that energy is delivered into the system through other sources or stimuli. Katz and Kahn (1971) argued that no social structure is self sufficient or self contained (p. 21). Since the primary foci of my organization stems to right wrong doings by bringing individuals and organization to the justice system in order to rectify the situation, ... The Importance Of Education In English Education English Language Learners: Considerations for the Planning and Implementation of Reading and Language Arts Instruction in a bilingual (Spanish/English) Setting A great discussion between a former professors, reiterated me of the importance of keeping up with current trends which continue to support the natural way we learn every day. The area of language arts continues to experience changes with the growth in bilingual education. Children in our classroom continue to grow by listening, speaking, reading and writing. Professionals diligently guided many of us prekindergarten through fifth grade teachers at North Bridge Elementary in a programs utilized to continue to contribute to the development of language arts in the early childhood of many youngsters in South Texas. My first summer of in service in 2007, I was encouraged to obtain hours or credit in the area of special needs, gifted and talented training, and recalled bilingual students being part of this population, one would serve for many years to come. Not realizing this would lead to a commitment in my part to a program I used in many ways, Balanced Literacy, not to only service gifted and talented children, but mostly for my recent immigrant students as well. Like most programs, or curriculums, it entailed many hours, man power, setbacks and ultimately, achievements. I, along with many other elementary teachers, struggled to make this a resource which, if given time and consistency, guided our students to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Domestic Atmosphere In King Henry V King Henry V s depiction of English nationalism amidst its battle between France showcases the glorification of war. However, despite the play s emphasis on combat and victory, King Henry V, also presents a strong unification of the charater s seeking or protecting for what they call home. For many of the play s characters, the domestic sphere represents an ideal space to which they will return to or represent though their interactions. The domestic sphere intercedes onto the battlefield providing context as to what the characters are fighting and dying for. The play s commoners use the tavern as a domestic sphere which is a reoccurring setting for characters like Pistol and Bardolph. It provides an ideal atmosphere for their interactions during times of peace as the tavern also functions as the plays comic relief for Acts II and III in the play. For example, upon entering the tavern, The Hostess makes reference that she does not house a dozen or fourteen gentlewomen because then people would assume the establishment as a brothel which is then interrupted with Nym unsheathing his sword (158 159). King Henry s infaution of Katherine which starts with O fair Katharine, if you will love me soundly with your French heart, I will be glad to hear you confess it brokenly with your English tongue provides a strange contrast to Henry s battle ready speeches of Act IV (352 353). As I begin this journey into discovering how libraries identify the reader, choose books, and effectively display collections, I am excited to learn all there is about the complicated life of a librarian. High risk schools come with many different challenges, one of them being able to select books that are not too violent, graphic that contain subject matter that is sexually or physically abusive. Many of the students in my school are being raised by someone other than the birth parents. On many instances, the birth parents have abandoned the child, are in prison or dead. Ernest Rutherford was the first to discover alpha, beta, and gamma rays. Noble gases, electrons, protons, lanthanides and actinides were also discovered by several other scientists. • 9. Tocqueville Despotism Naela Barqawi Sociology 3020 What did Tocqueville see as the main problems facing democratic societies? Why did he think that America showed them particularly clearly? Do you agree with him? The main problems Tocqueville saw facing democratic societies were the danger of democratic despotism, mass society, individualism, materialism and the excessive love for equality. The first thing I would first like to discuss the democratic despotism. Democratic despotism is a great danger because it can act as a tyranny. It s not so obvious as despotism by a single leader and because it s perfectly compatible with rule by the majority. He wrote, I confess, that in America I saw more than America; I sought the image of democracy itself, with its inclinations, its character, its prejudices, and its passions, in order to learn what we have to fear or hope from its progress. (Democracy in America Volume I) He thought he saw the outlines of a new kind of society, which would slowly become that kind of society for the rest of the world. In Newfoundland over 35,000 fishers and plant workers from over 400 coastal communities became unemployed in 1992 (Collapse of the Atlantic Northwest Cod Fishery). * ECOLOGICAL: The Atlantic cod fishery collapse left terrible ecological consequences. As mentioned above, the fishing technology was a major destruction to the ecological system by using deployment and draggers. The huge nets that were dropped and dragged along the bottom of the ocean destroyed the underlying eco system in the process. The effect of selective fishing on spawning grounds that is, selectively over exploiting one species in an ecosystem had disastrous effect on the feeding relationships in that ecosystem. This contributes to the overall reduction of spawning stock biomass of the targeted species, but also an increase in the number of invertebrate and vertebrate predators such as crustacean and fish which will prey on cod eggs, larvae, and younger fish. It is a little wonder that a species like cod, would eventually run into difficulties struggling to survive when its habitat is being continuously destroyed and the balance of their food chain had been wiped out. • 11. Human Geography And Development Studies In today s world people, places, societies and environments are constantly changing. Both natural and human created events, shape the world and create strong relationships between the environment and society. Human geography and development studies are two fields seeking to analyse these interrelationships and answer key questions about major issues in the world such as poverty, inequality and conflict. Human geography is largely about studying the spatial aspects of relationships between people and society whereas development studies focusses more on the way societies function, focussing on issues such as poverty and inequality as well as the way in which developing nations function compared to developed nations. Through examples of poverty and inequality this essay will explain the ways in which development studies and human geography overlap and the ways in which they are different in their analyses. Human geography is defined as The study of interrelationships between people, places and environment and how these vary spatially and temporally across and between locations (Castree, Kitchin and Rogers, 2013). It looks at how society shapes the environment and vice versa. Although physical geography and human geography are separate fields they both concentrate on spatial processes; physical geography more on the natural and physical sciences and human geography on the way in which human lives are shaped by processes in nature (Castree et al., 2013). These cycles repeat themselves over and over through out time in the business world. The growth and peak stage of a business cycle are when companies are building and providing great products and services. This is also the period when jobs are most abundant and harder to fill because job positions are in demand. After the peak stage a risky point in time follows which is the recession stage. We entered a depression period and this period lasted longer then some of the other periods in our history. Many economists wonder why a recovery, which leads out of the depression and into the growth stage, took longer then normal to begin. When looking back at history, I may have found the answer. Big spending is required to make companies produce more and the biggest factor of spending money is war. This paper will examine a close relation in our history of recession, war, and recovery. Since 1950, there have been many recessions in the US, which greatly affected all Americans. At the same time there have been innovations, technology, banking changes and political activities which have been thought to have caused the recessions, and ultimately fixed the recessions. We will explore a potential relationship between recovery and war as to the potential for speeding up a recovery. Not too long ago, during the Great Recession of 2007 2009, employment had peaked in the first part of 2008 and then it declined. According to McConnell (2015), In the first part of 2010 job growth was very slow to recover and economists have been vigorously debating why employment recovered so slowly after the Great Recession of 2007 2009. • 13. Colonization Of North America Prior to English colonization of North America, slavery in Europe was a common institution that created a social class in the societies of various nations. When the colonization of the New World in North America began, along with English settlers came the institution of slavery. In the dawn of English colonization, the practice of indentured servitude was utilized to provide labor necessary to produce crops in exchange for transportation to the New World, and a opportunity for new beginnings. As trade in the Atlantic World progressed, slavery replaced indentured servitude in order for African Chiefdoms to gain profit, and colonial farmers to gain free labor. As the method for obtaining labor for producing cash crops transitioned from indentured servitude to slavery, specifically African chattel slavery, slavery itself developed into a staple institution for colonial economies, and set up for tensions between the small but influential population of slaveowners and African slaves that caused slavery to become difficult to overcome in future years. In the eyes of English political leaders, the colonization of the New World benefited the English economy in ways of taxation, the mercantilism system, and new opportunities for goods to flourish in English markets. The first established English colony of Jamestown displayed the difficulties of colonization in foreign land, but the work of John Rolfe to develop and perfect the farming of tobacco saved the colony. Some of these dance forms such as the Lindy Hop and the Charleston started as an eight count done in four steps then it evolved in the 1930 s to an eight count with 10 steps. During this time swing dance had some substantial changes due to music and regional influences. At the start of the 40 s the era of Big Bands became very popular and swing dance was easily adapted to this style of music giving that fast percussion beats in this genre. Juliet changes it to a negative, responding to her mother with By Saint Peter s Church and Peter too, he shall not make me there a joyful bride. Therefore this shows Juliet is completely against marrying Paris and does not agree that Paris will make her a Joyful bride . At this point Juliet s mother is outsmarted by Juliet s intelligence and responds with Here comes your father. Tell him so yourself, and see how he will take it at your hands. This shows that Lady Capulet does not have control over her daughter and passes it over to Lord Capulet to deal with because she is weak and is frightened of her husband because he is controlling. Then Juliet s father enters and he is furious that Juliet is refusing to marry Paris. Shakespeare shows this by using rhetorical questions, by using rhetorical questions this shows that Lord Capulet is not willing to give Juliet a chance to speak or answer any of his questions. Lord Capulet s anger results in him threatening Juliet. He uses the phrase My fingers itch. This means he wants to hit Juliet because she has refused to marry Paris. Y Chun has been experiencing headaches, upset stomach, and difficulties falling and staying asleep. Additionally, Y Chun has noticed that she is generally short tempered and on edge. The psychodynamic theory of individual psychology, typically referred to as Adlerian therapy, can be applied to the case of Y Chun in order to understand her presenting concerns and how these problems may have developed. There are several important concepts of individual psychology that should be addressed in order to appropriately conceptualize Y Chun s case from an Adlerian framework. These concepts include family constellation, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... From infancy, Y Chun recognized that she was helpless, and this helplessness was characterized by feelings of inferiority. Inferiority feelings are considered a normal condition of all people and are identified as a foundation for human striving. Thus, Y Chun s feelings of inferiority are not treated as a sign of weakness; rather, these feelings encourage her to strive for superiority. Y Chun has worked to compensate for her feelings of helplessness by striving for competence and perfection. Y Chun is currently juggling a number of tasks in which she is attempting to demonstrate her competence, such as going to school, working, and raising her children, and it is likely that her desire to achieve superiority is contributing to her current symptomology. It is important to recognize, however, that Y Chun s yearning for superiority does not necessarily mean she is striving to be superior to others. Instead, it means that Y Chun has been and will continue to attempt to move from a perceived lower position to a perceived higher position (Corey, 2009). In sum, feelings of inferiority and a desire for superiority will guide Y Chun s behaviors, thoughts, and feelings throughout her ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 18. The Pursuit Of Happiness By Aristotle The pursuit of happiness is the reason for our existence (Aristotle, 2004) The Greek word that usually gets translated as happiness is eudaimonia, and like most translations from ancient languages, there is a loss of deeper meaning in translation. According to Aristotle happiness (eudaimonia) is the central purpose of human life and a goal in itself (Aristotle, 2004) (Creed, Wardman 1963). Because of this ideology, Aristotle devoted much of his time discussing and explaining this philosophy (Hughes, 2001). Even though he lived on the other side of the world as Mencius, they both came to similar conclusions about happiness it is the cultivation of virtue (Creed, Wardman 1963). These virtues when studied are more individualistic when compared to Confucian or Buddhist ideology. To Aristotle happiness was not just the not just a result of one facet of life but all facets mental, spiritual, physical and social (Hardie, 1980). In this way he introduced the idea of that the purpose (telos) of humanity was to pursue happiness (Eudemonia) (Aristotle, 2004) (Creed, Wardman 1963). In this paper I will discuss: what Eudemonia and telos are according to Aristotle and why I agree that the only life worth living is one that pursues his definition of happiness. One of Aristotle s most influential works is the Nicomachean Ethics. In these lectures he presents a theory of happiness that is still pondered today (Creed, Wardman 1963). The central question presented is What is the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Performance Enhancing Drugs In Sports Political In New Zealand, this year the laws surrounding drugs in sport have been updated so that they are now at the same standard of those of the World Anti Doping Agency s 2015 world anti doping code. This meant increasing the penalty of those caught using performance enhancing drugs from a 2 year ban to 4 years for first time offenders. This means that an athlete that is caught using drugs at the Olympics, they will miss the next one. The laws have also been changed so that all supporting staff/team members of the athlete are subject to these laws as well and therefore they can receive banes as well. This is because in the sporting environment it is hard to get away from people using these drugs and the athlete can start thinking that in order for them to beat these people they too would need to dope. This can have a greater impact in team sports opposed to individual sports. This is because in an individual sport, the athlete only has their self to let down if they don t perform well, but in a team sport the athlete lets down the whole team it they aren t preforming at a high enough standard. Also because if they are in a team where everyone is taking perform enhancing drugs they are unable to get away from them and are more likely to dope as well. However drugs in team sports come with greater risks because if one member gets caught using, whether the entire team is or not, the whole team will get disqualified, not just that single athlete. An example of an athlete was part of a team and used performance enhancing drugs because the rest of the team was and therefore was trapped in that environment was Stephen Swart. Stephen Swart was part of Lance Armstrong s Motorola cycling team in 1995 1996 during the Tour De France but in an interview he did in 2004 with Sports Illustrate he confirms the allegations of Lance Armstrong s doping saying He was the instigator. • 20. A Summary OfI Wandered Lonely As A Cloud Lost. What a standard term. One that is often associated with a child wandering off in a grocery store, or somebody taking the wrong turn and not arriving at the correct destination. But the trouble is that it is hardly ever associated with anything deeper, such as the human soul. Yet the reality is, everybody s soul is indeed a little bit lost. And if not lost, at least diverted to a path of pure monotony that drives them to forget the importance of the little things in life. An example of this concept is the poem I Wandered Lonely as a Cloud by William Wordsworth. At the beginning of the poem, the speaker is wandering through life without purpose. He is simply living a life that he no longer feels any form of connection towards. But then he comes across a field of dancing daffodils and his perspective changes entirely to one of pure joy and ease with his life. Through his application of simile, symbolism, and personification, in his work, the speaker makes his poem far more meaningful. The use of these devices helps to shape the poem s central idea, that is when one stops roaming aimlessly through everyday life and pays attention, they can discover the true beauties that are present in the world and learn to appreciate them a little bit more. One of the main figurative language elements that the speaker uses within his poem is a simile. The title of the poem itself, as well as the first line are repeating similes. The speaker uses this component in the lines I wandered ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In light of the situation mentioned above, FPL has to ensure that it has the resources available to meet future competition where one of the determinants of winning or retaining new business may be price. Hence, its dividend payout policy must be modified to account for these industry changes. c. How should FPL choose between dividends and share repurchases as alternative modes of payment? The Modigliani Miller clearly postulates that the dividend policy is irrelevant. The value of the assets of FPL should be independent of the financial structure of the firm. Also, the choice of dividend payments or share repurchases should not influence the share price as both methods are ways to distribute cash to the shareholders. However, this is true only in the Modigliani Miller world where there are no costs related to taxes or financial distress. • 25. The Role of Serotonin in Gastrointestinal Motility The Role of Serotonin in Gastrointestinal Motility Introduction The enteric nervous system (ENS) is an essential, independent system of monitoring and control regulating nutrient absorption, secretion, motility, blood flow, and sensation in the gastrointestinal (GI) tract (reviewed by Beattie and Smith, 2008; Molderings, 2012). The ENS consists of more than 100 million neurons scattered throughout the gut in clusters called ganglia, which innervate adjacent tissues and organs, including the esophagus, stomach, intestines, pancreas, and gallbladder. At the molecular level, more than 30 transmitters and cotransmitters have been identified, including serotonin. As is the case with the central nervous system (CNS) (reviewed by Gillette, 2006), the main role that serotonin plays in the gut is neuromodulatory (reviewed by Molderings, 2012). In particular, the enteric serotonergic pathways are important for regulating smooth muscle tone, peristalsis, secretion, and sensation (reviewed by Beattie and Smith, 2008). The enteric serotonergic system is medically relevant because a large number of people suffer from gut related diseases. For example, 10 to 15% of Americans suffer from irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) involving impaired gut motility (NDDIC, 2012). While only two thirds of IBS sufferers are believed to ever seek care from a physician for this condition, the annual direct and indirect costs in 2000 are still estimated to be $20 billion dollars. Fractions have never been a topic of math that I have took a liking to. They have intimidated me for as long as I can remember. I did not imagine in my wildest dreams that there was going to come a day that I could understand fractions. Being enrolled in the math for educators course has contributed significally to this newfound understanding. This class has taught me a lot of valuable knowledge on how you can make fractions easy and at the same time fun for yourself and the students you are trying to teach. I learned that fractions can estimated, they could either be close to almost nothing or zero, close to one half, close to one, and more than one. Based on that conclusion, students can easily figure out which fractions are bigger, smaller or equal to each other. There was an example provided in class that talked about Irene eating pizza everyday and having to frequently call in to tell her doctor how much she had eaten that day. Irene figured out that instead of telling him the exact amount, she would give him an estimate. There was a magnetic circle on the board with removal able pieces, from here Dr. Math took away and added pieces in multiple ways and would ask if it was close to nothing, close to 0, close to ½, or close to 1. The cold temperature is also a limiting factor of the geographic regions of where these diseases are found. In the US the primary vector is Culcoides sonorensis. Although other species of the Culcoides genus are known to be able to transmit these viruses this specific species is the most prominent. Cold weather associated with the distribution of the disease also contributes to its impact on wildlife. These late summer and early winter months are vital for deer. This is generally when female deer give birth in the summer and breed in the early winter. Currently there is no plan for vector control. • 36. Leadership And Culture Of The Field Of Organizational... Leadership and Culture Ethical Leadership According to research theories in the field of organizational leadership, powerful leaders can have substantial impact on the lives of followers and the fate of an organization (Yukl, 2006, p.340). Nevertheless, Heifetz (1994) points out, there is no ethically neutral ground for theories of leadership, because they always involve values and implicit assumptions about proper forms of influence. The complexity of issues surrounding ethical and unethical leadership influences, are determining by the criteria utilized by leaders among members. Emphasized in theories of ethical leadership is behavior approaches of several identifying leaders: (1) servant leadership, (2) spiritual leadership, and (3) authentic leadership. Servant Leadership Several scholars argue about the fundamental concept of servant leadership. Blanchard Hodges (2005), argue that leaders must first overcome their ego s desire to be served and learn to focus on serving others. Leaders who are self centered, and sell focused, cannot promote effective leadership with others. Hunter (2004), argues that leadership is a skill that is learned by first developing a character that is based on moral maturity and commitment to doing the right thing. As stated by Yukl (2006, p.357), servant leadership theory explains why the primary concern of leaders should be to nurture, develop, and protect followers. A Reader Oriented approach to Edgar Alan Poe s The Tell Tale Heart The Titular question is an old philosophical riddle for which a wide range of metaphysical and non metaphysical solution has been offered. The answers differ based on the perspective of the interpreter. Judging these answers is neither possible nor desirable for us, but the riddle and the ensuing debates attest to the veracity of one of the most basic tenets of reader response theory: If a text does not have a reader, it does not exist or at least, it has no meaning. It s reader, with whatever experience he brings to the text, who gives it its meaning. Of particular significance is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The narrator is a psychopath with wacky motivations. If we accept this convenient explanation then we have to deal with another question: could a madman talks with such lucidity and exactness? The answer that Ken Frieden gives to this question is a positive one. He downplays the contrast between the sane narrative and mad narrator: The discrepancy between sane narrator and madman perhaps shows the error of assuming that linguistic normalcy implies psychological normalcy. Friedan took it for granted that the narrator is mad because he kills an old man for no reason. He is doubly mad, Friedan said, when he imagines he hears the pounding of the dead man s heart and gives away the crime he had concealed. Yet the narrator tells a coherent tale, as if to demonstrate out of spite that he is sane, refuting the ordinary belief that he must be mad. On the other side of the road, there are critics who are sympathetic toward the narrator and dismiss any suggestion of madness. Daniel Hoffman, for instance is willing to believe the narrator s claim about the Old man s eye. Hoffman reads the vulture like eye as a Freudian Father Figure. He takes the old man as a father figure; whose Eye becomes the all seeing surveillance of the child by the father. (Bloom 53) . This surveillance is, Hoffman writes, the inculcation into his soul ... In Reflections Upon Laughter, Hutcheson argued against Hobbes s claim that the essential feature of laughter is expressing feelings of superiority is. If Hobbes were right, claims Hutcheson, there can be no laughter where we do not compare ourselves with others or with some former state of ourselves and whenever we feel sudden glory, we laugh. But neither of these is true. We sometimes laugh at an odd metaphor or simile, for example, without comparing ourselves to anyone. Not only are feelings of superiority not necessary for amusement, Hutcheson argued, but they are not sufficient, either. We have feelings of superiority toward people ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Unlike the superiority theory which aims at social reform through the emotional side of humour, incongruity theory aims at social reform through the cognitive side. The cognitive juxtaposition of contrary interests and attitudes is the key to comedy in Bernard Shaw. The slum dwellers and landlords in Widower s House, romantic and realistic attitudes to war in Arms and the Man, external polish and internal instincts in Pygmalion provide comic juxtaposition and create humour with satire. This approach was taken by James Beattie, Immanuel Kant, Soren Kierkegaard, Arthur Schopenhauer, and many later philosophers and psychologists. It is now the dominant theory of humor in philosophy and psychology. As Robert Latta and others have pointed out, the words incongruous and incongruity are used sloppily in many versions of the theory. The dictionary says that incongruous things are characterized by a lack of harmony, consistency, or compatibility with one another. Congruere in Latin means to come together, to agree. In geometry, congruent triangles have the same shape and size; one fits exactly over the other (104). Paul McGhee s uses the term incongruity interchangeably with absurdity, ridiculousness, and the ludicrous. McGhee offers a second definition of incongruity: something unexpected, out of context, inappropriate, unreasonable, illogical, exaggerated, and so forth. (10). The core concept in incongruity theories is based on the fact that human experience works with learned patterns. Most of the time, most experiences of most people follow such mental patterns. • 39. Opositions to Thomas Malthus Theory on Population Growth Thomas Malthus was an early 19th century English scholar who specializes in political economy and demographics. One of his most well known and influential works An Essay on the Principle of Population argued that the increase in population growth would ultimately create social and economic problems for a nation. On the contrary, many famous political economists such as Ester Boserup and Julian Simon suggested different views about population and resource growth; which contradicts the Malthus theory. Thomas Malthus wrote An Essay on the Principle of Population argued that the increasing rate of population growth is the impetus of many social and economic issues that affects our society. His belief was that population increases in geometrical scale whilst basic supply for humans increase in arithmetical scale, I SAID THAT POPULATION, WHEN UNCHECKED, increased in a geometrical ratio, and subsistence for man in an arithmetical ratio. (Quoted from An Essay on the Principle of Population, Chapter 2, page 6) Malthus believed that overpopulation would lead to mass malnutrition, famine, disease and even war. He proposed two kinds of method that could keep the population in a sustainable level. First is preventative checks, which suggested using moral restrains such as the practice of abstinence and criminal punishments for those who had children that they could not support. The other method is positive checks. Positive checks are factors that could increase the death ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Addressing a narrative that at best illustrated the young activists as naïve and mislead, and at worst as criminal and self centered demagogues to be blamed for the dissolution of the interracial civil rights coalition, Joseph centers his works around the emergence of a rather apolitical Black Nationalism that turns its focus increasingly toward a more activist stance.
