Visual Response Essay
In 2001, Morland et al. (2001) investigate the impact of visual dysfunction on cortical visual
responses with three different studies. This studies differ in the sense that the subjects have visual
deficits that are expressed at different levels of the visual system. First, they describe the effects
on the cortical visual maps of abnormal retinal receptor distributions that are found in rod
monochromacy (only possesses operating rod photoreceptors). Subject KN, aged 56 year old has
a complete absence of cone photoreceptors. KN also has a central scotoma which has been
estimated to be between 10 min and 1Вє, but estimates are error prone due to nystagmus. The
results show that the cortex undergoes a remapping whereby the regions that would normally...

Second, they evaluate how the information from each hemifield is represented in the human albino
areas. In human albinism the principle deficits occurs at the optic chiasm, where fibres undergo
almost complete crossing unlike the normal pattern in which approximately half of the fibres
project contralateral to the eye. In order to address the aim, they presented stimuli to the right and
left hemifields of an albino viewing monoculaly. Subject, aged 55 year old, tyrosinase positive,
female albino, who had best corrected acuity of 0.33 and nystagmus no greater than 3Вє in
amplitude. They found abnormal visual cortical activity in a human albino. Monocular stimulation
of each hemifield resulted in activations in the hemisphere contralateral to the stimulated eye. This
is consistent with abnormal decussation at the optic chiasm in albinism. They believed that the
reorganization is a likely consequence of developmental and not genetic factors as found in the
Boston pattern (Guillery, 1986). Finally, they described how visual field defects can be documented
with retinotopic mapping techniques in the case of cortical

Benefits Of A Robot Warrior
Do you like warriors? Do you like to create things? Do you enjoy pushing your creativity to the
max? Do you enjoy the sense of amazement at what you can make? If you find pleasure with any
of these, then you will enjoy learning how to create your own hero out of Lego Bionicle parts that
protects your fictional worlds from harm.
In order to make your robot warrior, you will need to gather your supplies. First, you should
collect the small pieces, which are from the Lego Technic franchise. These pieces include pins,
axles, and gears. Secondly, you will need to grab the main parts: Lego Bionicle ball joints. There
are two types of ball joints: ones with guards on the side, and ones without guards. For the ball
joints without guards, use the ones with Technic pin holes. They will allow you to add more
armor on the legs. Another piece that you will need is a torso piece. The last group of pieces you
will need are the armor and accessories. The armor should have primary and secondary colors. This
will make your warrior look dignified. You will also need a... Show more content on

You can take whatever parts you have left and add them to your magnificent warrior! Some
examples of items are spikes, lasers, swords, and claws. Make sure that the items are balanced
on both sides, so that your warrior is not top heavy. The last items you need on your warrior are
the weapons. Put the main weapon of choice in the dominant hand. Some examples of weapons
that you can choose from are swords, axes, and guns. In the opposite hand, add a secondary
weapon. If you prefer to be defensive, you can create a shield or some other protection device.
Finally, add accessories to your devices of destruction. For example, if your warrior has a sword,
find pieces to make it look like it is glowing with energy. If you have a shield, put some blades on
there to allow it to be a secondary weapon. Now that your warrior is ready and equipped, it is time
to present it to the

The Nazi Occupation of Holland
On May 14, 1940 Holland surrendered to German Forces, and Dr. Arthur Seyss Inquart was

Sexually Transmitted Disease Essay
Sexually Transmitted Diseases Sex is a popular subject; it is on television, in advertisements, in
magazines, and practically everywhere. One very serious side effect of an increase of sexual
activity is the risk of contracting sexually transmitted diseases. They affect more than twelve
million Americans each year. Sexually transmitted diseases are becoming common and widely
spread throughout Americans because of unprotected sex, permiscuity, and multiple sex partners.
Some of the most commonly found sexually transmitted diseases are gonorrhea, chlamydia, HIV

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention estimates there are three million new infections in
the United each year. (Ultimate Guide: Chlamydia par.2) Chlamydia is a bacterial sexually
transmitted disease. This organism, a very small bacterium, gets its name from the Greek word
chlamys, meaning, cloak. It must cloak itself inside a cell to multiply. The infection is often
persistent and relatively silent for long periods, because the cell provides camouflage for the germ.
(Jackson 73) Chlamydia is mainly transmitted through anal and vaginal sex with an infected partner.
It is also possible, but not very common to spread chlamydia through oral sex. Another way it can
be transmitted is from an infected mother to her newborn child during birth. People can get eye
infections from chlamydia if an infected bodily fluid reaches the eye during sex. (Ultimate Guide:

testicular pain, vaginal bleeding, bleeding after or pain during intercourse, rectal inflammation,
rectal discharge, diarrhea, nausea, and abdominal pain. (Ultimate Guide: Chlamydia par.4) In

When Cultures Collide
Management, and the ability to lead and cultivate a team of individuals who strive to meet targets,
work hard, and have loyalty to their company is an extremely difficult task by any standards. It
requires a unique kind of person who is both demanding and rewarding, who can handle
confrontation and who holds people to reasonable standards while encouraging teamwork and
cooperation. This alone makes running a company, and finding upper and middle managers to
facilitate plans and goals a worthy task, but with the advent of fast paced globalization, companies

Cocaine Essay
My report is on the drug cocaine. I will tell mainly how it affects the body and nervous system. I
also have included where Cocaine comes from to help understand exactly what we re talking about,
and to clear up any misunderstanding about the drug.
Cocaine is both a central nervous system stimulant and an anesthetic. It is found in the leaves of the
coca plant. The traditional method of coca use is to chew the leaves, producing a mild stimulation.
Outside of South America it is generally used in it s more refined and extracted forms, either
powder cocaine, or freebase cocaine and makes a much stronger effect than chewing the leaves. The
term quot;Crack quot; is alternately used to refer to street quality freebase cocaine, or to refer to ...

It is sucked on rather than chewed. It is still a common practice for a mother to introduce her
young to the coca experience by preparing the wad of leaves in her mouth and then transferring it
to the mouth of her child. In this way the proper amount of lime will be present in the first wad
of leaves the child uses, which ensures that the first experience with coca will be a positive one.
Cocaine was first extracted from coca in the 19th cent. and was at first hailed as a miracle drug.
After all, it was used for a lot of things such as in dentistry.
Most coca is grown in Peru, Bolivia, and Colombia. The farmers, for whom it is a relatively well
paying crop, harvest and dry the leaves, which are then processed into coca paste. Cocaine base
is extracted from the paste in informal laboratories, usually in Peru or Bolivia. Further processing
continues in Colombia, where the white powder, cocaine hydrochloride, is produced for export.
Once in the United States, the cocaine is cut (diluted) with ingredients such as lactose, and sold
or further processed into crack. Drug dealers make a lot of money off of Cocaine. The reason why
this is, is because in South America, it s very cheap for the stuff while in North America, the price
shoots up quite a bit.
Drugs can affect the body in a variety of ways, causing changes in the brain, the nervous system,
and the synapses between nerves. Stimulants in particular, increase the release of

Individual Retirement Accounts Case Summary
Individual retirement accounts (IRAs) have become a dominant retirement vehicle in the US. As a
result, the IRA has become a major asset class that stands out in the estates of many high net worth
individuals. For those with outside funds who are drawing only the required minimum distributions
(RMDs), the IRA can be a great asset to pass on to the next generation. Younger heirs will have the
ability to stretch out the tax deferred status of IRA assets by taking out distributions over a long
period of time. Additional wealth can be transferred through the tax deferred growth in these assets.
Unfortunately, the ability to stretch out distributions is not automatic and the rules are more
complex than most people realize. One wrong move could... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

the beneficiary does not make a selection or the IRA custodian does not name the other method as
the default. As previously mentioned this is also the default if the estate is named as

Next, the receivables would decrease and give the balance left. Lack of copayments and a number
of reasons of patients not paying their bills or copays not collected. The final result shows a bad
debt balance of the percentage of uncollected copays and the amount of copays collected giving the
accounts receivable, net an overall balance.
Inventory is important to consider for the balance sheet as it s listed after receivables since its
less liquid than receivables. This is how patient care services are provided from inventory. The
process starts when the services have been provided, notification of a bill sent to patient, then
accounts receivables grow. As a result, inventory takes longer to convert to cash than receivables
because it hasn t been used to provide services. Next, cash is the most universal way to pay for
items. Also, cash includes amounts on deposit in checking and savings accounts and cash on hand.
Marketable securities are listed to be probably liquidated in the near future. A beneficial factor of
marketable securities is they can be converted into cash in only a few days. In addition, marketable
securities that the organization intends to hold as long term investments shouldn t be listed with
current assets, but instead under a long term investment category after fixed assets, (Finkler, S.A.,

From a cinematography perspective, elements of Mulvey s essay persist throughout the film,
specifically, the idea of the male gaze upon females who are meant to be looked at. However, in
line with the homosexual themes in Carol, this gaze is manipulated to be a female to female

shots of Carol s gloved hands on the steering wheel and red lips as she smile back at Therese.
Then from the car, Therese photographs Carol without her knowledge, the ultimate form of

Conventional elements of sexualitiy in Carol are complicated further by the power dynamics
between Carol and Therese expressed through cinematographic elements. While Carol is wiser
and more experienced than Therese and is often framed with low angle shots making her appear
large, confident, and strong. The complexity of Carol s character is further explored as she
simultaneously appears as having power over Therese but is also the subject of Therese s
objectifying gaze. Therese, who is often captured through high angle shots giving viewers a
sense of looking down on her, possess a gaze which often frames Carol seductively as she
photographs and stares at Carol flaunting her feminine glamour and sexuality. Just as the scene in
which they first met, Therese is often obscured, hidden behind the lense of her camera, and Carol
is the subject of awe, attention, and desire. In the dark, Therese stares at Carol under her red

Religion s Rise Up And Fall Away
Religions continually rise up and fall away. Mormonism is a recently developed religion that
started in the 1820s. Founded by Joseph Smith while living in New York State Mormonism has
had many struggles due to its radical beliefs that went against orthodox Christianity which at that
time was invigorated with righteous passion. Mormonism was founded while Joseph Smith
lived in Palmyra, NY. Before he lived in Palmyra, he lived in Sharon, Vermont, the place of his
birth. He was born on December 23, 1805 to Joseph and Mary Smith. Shortly after his birth, the
family fell on hard times. The Smith family moved to Palmyra New York and set themselves up
in the only profession they knew, farming. While in New York, his mother attended a
Presbyterian church but the rest of the family went into magic and pursued seekerism and seer
stones. The Smiths went on several treasure hunting expeditions. While on these expeditions, the
family would put seeing stones into their hats believing that they would see a revelation of
where treasure was located. When Joseph was 14, he walked into the woods and prayed to God
for guidance on which church to attend. He received a vision of God and Christ, saying to join
none of them as they were all corrupt. Years later, Smith claims to have been visited by the angel
Moroni. He tells Smith about a set of golden plates containing the history of a ancient South
American civilization. He told Smith where to find a sealed stone box containing these plates.

Marcion believed that the Jewish Scriptures only concerned the covenant between God and the
Jews of Israel, and therefore was no longer valid for the Christian church. In his mind, these were
two very separate Gods. When noticing that several of Paul s writings made mention of the God
of Israel, Marcion claimed that those writings were not Paul s original texts, and should be
considered counterfeit. Marcion s views of Paul s forged portions of his letters can be attributed
to what many theologians today might call the Slippery Slope Argument. In this case, Marcion
chose not to trust in the inerrancy of what God had spoken to Paul. Paul s writing s were flawed,
or someone must have tampered with them. This lack of trust in inerrancy would ultimately allow
Marcion to fall down a slippery slope , giving way to forsake other important Christian foundational
truths. As his ideologies became more widespread, it became obvious that Marcion s views on
creation were radically reinterpreted (or misinterpreted, better yet), as well as his opinions on the
doctrines of incarnation and the resurrection. Ultimately, the church at large came to the conclusion
that his doctrines contradicted several fundamental points in Christian doctrine. It forced the church
to make a case for the value and status of the Jewish scriptures it had adopted as its own, and it

Theme Of Names In Song Of Solomon

Mr. Fusco

Song of Solomon Names Names are apart of all cultures and have major significance to the
recipients of the name and further to the society as a whole. People are identified by the name
provided to them at birth. This such name can be derived from a variety of different origins,
depending heavily upon what ethnicity, or culture the child is born into. A parent provides their
child with a name that they believe has some kind of significance, or a deeper symbolic meaning to
their family. Throughout one s life, they might acquire a number of nicknames. Nicknames can
reflect how others perceive a certain person, or even how that person views himself, inferring either
a positive or negative connotation. In Songs of Solomon, many characters have names that provide
a deeper insight on their true identity in the novel. Whether the character is trying to escape the
reality of their name or not, the name itself still establishes truth behind theirs actions and who they
came from. Names in Song of Solomon ultimately establish a character s behavioral traits and
cultural background, advancing the direction of the novel.
In the novel, many of the characters are provided with names of either biblical or mythological
descent. These such names provide insight as to the identity of the character in the novel and
further the purpose of the character in the progression of the plot. Many of the children s names
were chosen at birth by sticking a pin into the

A Modern State And Public Water Systems
A modern state is a set of organisations and institutions related to the function of the government;
its role is to provide order, policy, revenue, internal and external representation, and services.1
When the state fails to govern the commons, that is, the land or resources affecting the whole
community, private companies take over. Within the past several decades privatization of the
freshwater sources and public water systems is widespread worldwide. Yet, private companies
provide water guided by the principle of the financial gain and not based on the equal distribution
paradigm, and such approach makes poverty stricken suffer the most, while the wealthy remain
intact. In California, the region of the world having the seventh largest world s economy,2
billionaires hoard water in the water banks that have been quietly gifted to them by the
government. 3 These water bank systems allow to accumulate water in the underground
reservoirs for water bank holders needs or for purpose of leasing.4 One such system, Kern Water
Bank, a thirty square miles of marshland filled with flocks of birds,5, is used to water
pomegranate trees, a key ingredient in production of the fruit drink by POM Wonderful, a company
owned by the billionaires Stewart and Lynda Resnick.6 Ironically, Kern Water Bank Authority,
technically a public agency, is subsidized by the Paramount Farming Company, a company with
world s largest pistachio and almond production, which is also owned by the Resnicks.

oneness with nature can be achieved, and its significance.
Emerson, in his Scholar address, states that nature is the most important influence on man and his

Emerson and Thoreau both urge people to go out and experience life for themselves instead of
merely reading about it. Reading is necessary for growth, but one should not depend on it to
change their lives; for that, they have to live simply in nature. In this way, to both authors, books
seem to be a direct hindrance to achieving the wholeness that nature offers because reading keeps
man from experiencing nature himself. Once they experience life s richness through nature, they
are better able to develop spiritually and experience the divine.
Emerson believed that man s mind is creative; he does not need only receive a sensory perception
of God, but can actually create a consciousness of God. In creating this consciousness, man
becomes god like. In this way, man can experience God, know God, not just know of Him, and
realize a way of life that is better (more god like) than his own. Emerson believed that this ideal, this
experiencing the divine, was possible through building a harmonious relationship with nature.
Thoreau saw this ideal way of life in nature as well. He believed that the key to this spiritually
rich, ideal existence was to simplify one s life. If one were to give up all unnecessary and
materialistic ties, and live with the bare necessities (fuel, clothing, shelter, food) then one may
spend more time concentrating on developing spiritually.

National Park Service History
In the words of the iconic Ron Swanson, from the hit show series Parks and Recreation, the
national parks service is probably the only branch of government worth a damn. All thanks to the
work of several individuals, backed by an entire government, this national treasure will soon
celebrate its one hundredth birthday. The idea of the National Parks Service was first
conceptualized in 1872 when Congress established what is now Yellowstone National Parkas a
public park or pleasuring ground for the benefit and enjoyment of the people. under the Act of
March 1, 1872. The notion began years before with some of the first European settlers that were
captivated by the beauty and worked to protect it. Since then, the system has grown to include
natural, historic, and recreation areas in every region. However, it wasn t until August 25, 1916
that the parks service was made official with the National Park ServiceOrganic Act where it was

Descriptive Essay On Showmanship
Attention everyone, a creaky voice scratched out on the old speaker, Attention, judging for
showmanship is about to begin, everyone please round up your animal and come to the ring.
My nerves instantly hit me, my hands instantly became frigid, unwilling to move even one
centimeter. Everywhere around there was nothing but faded denim jeans, cowboy boots, old t
shirts, plaid shirts, and the occasional stetson. The screeching and bleating of surrounding
animals bounced around in my head, making it more difficult to concentrate. The smell of
manure and farm animal burned my nostrils as I shook my head to clear my thoughts. All
around me people quickly rushed to their animals to do one last check over, pluck away the
straw, fluff the wool, clear the crust, and check the hooves, all while freshening up themselves.
Meanwhile I carefully took my market lamb away from the craziness and meandered to the front
of the ring without a care in the world. It was fair time yet again, sometimes it brought out the
best, and sometimes the worse, in people. I however was in a man s world in showing, each year
I d made it my mission to clean out the competition and leave them with nothing, and this year I
was going to claim showmanship yet again to my winnings. Showmanship is a big deal in
showing at the fair. Winning meant recognition for all your hard work and winnings. It also meant
a shiny, golden trophy with your name engraved on it. So far I had one it only once, in the year

Tourette s Syndrome Case Study
DESCRIPTION
Tourette s Syndrome, often shortened to TS, is an inherited neurological disorder. Although the
cause is unknown, studies suggest that it occurs when the nerves in the brain have trouble
communicating and when there is a disturbance in the balance of neurotransmitters.
It is characterized by repetitive, sudden, and involuntary movements or noises called tics. The tics
can be both motorized and vocalized. Motor tics are body movements that can be simple, such as
rapid eye blinking, shoulder shrugging, or nose twitching or complex, such as jumping, kicking,
hopping, and spinning. Simple vocal tics include grunting, sniffing, and throat clearing, while
complex vocal tics include repeating the words of others or repeating one s own words
(ghr.nlm.nih.gov). About 10% of those diagnosed with TS have coprolalia, usage of obscene
language, and copropraxia, making obscene movements. The syndrome does not directly affect a
person s intelligence, as they function normally besides the tics, unless there is another co existing
disorder. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
To be diagnosed with TS, a patient must have two or more motor tics and at least one vocal tic. The
tics must have begun before the patient has reached 18 years of age and have occurred for at least
a year. Opposingly, Chronic Motor or Vocal Tic Disordermay be diagnosed if the patient has one
or more motor tics or vocal tics, but not both that have been persistent for over a year and has not
been diagnosed with TS. In the case of Provisional Tic Disorder, the patient has symptoms
identical to Chronic Motor or Vocal Tic Disorder, aside from the fact that the tics have not been
present for longer than 12 months in a row

The Human Reproductive Cloning Debate
One of the most controversial areas in genetic engineering is human or reproductive cloning. The
topic has raised moral and ethical concerns among critics. According to the Gallup poll conducted
in 2014, only 13% of Americans believed cloning human beings is morally acceptable (May, 2016).
This shows a disapproval of such technology by the public.
Human reproductive cloning is the creation of an individual who has identical nuclear genetic
material (DNA) to an existing human being, and who is allowed to develop to term and beyond
(Bio Centre, n.d.). This science uses somatic cell nuclear transfer (SCNT). Dolly, the sheep, was the
first mammal cloned using this technology, and its possible utility for human cloning has been
argued ever ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When couples carry genetic risk, they might consider reproductive SCNT to avoid passing a
serious genetic disease on to their offspring (Daar et al., 2016). If the technology is abused, people
might try to create perfect human beings, as Hittler attempted.
Reproductive SCNT involves the production of a child through an asexual procedure, a
fundamental departure from natural or assisted conception (ex: IVFs) in which a child s genome is
unique from either parent (Daar et al., 2016). Some orthodox Christians believe that this method
destroys the link between a human relationship and the being of a child (Bio Centre, n.d.).
Reproductive cloning may harm children psychologically. Parents might harbor unfair expectations
on the child, and this can hinder the child s personal growth and undermine the child s interests in
forming a unique identity (Daar et al., 2016).
There are safety concerns regarding human cloning. Between 95 98% of mammalian cloning
experiments have resulted in miscarriages, still births, and life threatening abnormalities (Bio
Centre, n.d.). Similar abnormalities may occur in human reproductive

My Personal Experiences Of Basketball And Basketball
My history with sport started at a young age; by three years old, my father already had me
swinging a baseball bat. Yet, for me personally, the earliest memories I have of sports were
watching my older brother play basketball on the hoop in our front yard. Before I knew it, I was
out on the basketball court at 5, playing in games with my father, brother and neighbors. At 6 when
I first started kindergarten, my parents signed me for a winter YMCA basketballleague where I
began to shine. Being one of the few kids on the team that could dribble the ball and actually
take shots, I played the point guard position and was constantly given the ball. Seeing my
success in the basketball league, my parents wanted me to play little league next, with the hope
that it would be as successful as basketball. Evidently, my parent s intuition about my athletic
ability was correct. In little league, I was one of the few kids who could throw the ball across
the diamond. Naturally, as I was one of the few kids that could field, I was relegated to second
base and occasionally shortstop. While I may have felt that I was one of the best hitters on the team
at the time, reflection on my past reminds me that I always had trouble with swinging the bat. Much
to my parent s dismay, baseballwas not the same as basketball for me; I was unable to dominate
without any resistance. Yet, not all hope was lost. As a pitcher, I showed great promise. Even
though I was not the tallest kid or the strongest kid, I

The Importance Of Voting For A Candidate For Office
One of the most critical ways that individuals can affect governmental decision making is voting.
Voting is a formal expression of preference for a candidate for office or for a resolution of an
issue. Voting takes place in the context of a large scale national or regional election, however, local
and community electionscan be just as poignant to individual participation in government. Every
Australian citizen who is aged 18 years or more can vote in a federal electionif validly enrolled and
not disqualified from voting. Political participation is the basis of democracyand a vital part of the
right to vote . Australia s constitution has framed the progressive democracy Australia has become,
however there is debate on the derivation of this right to vote and on the extent of the protection of
that right. The right is not constitutional at all, instead being governed by international treaty
obligations and commonwealth legislation. The right to vote has been defined as the right to cast a
ballot in an election. However, in order to fulfil the democratic objective of representative
government, modern definitions require that the vote cast is effective, that each individual may
only vote a single time and that franchise is equal. Further, the right must have legal prevalence in
order to prevent its erosion through legislation.
The right to vote is set out in Section 41 of the Australian Constitution (Cth) and states No adult

earlier? Or maybe felt intense anxiety over everyday tasks, such as sending a letter and
believing you may have misspelled a word. You may feel that this is just a personal issue, but in
reality, many people all over the world share the same thoughts and feelings. Obsessive
Compulsive Disorder, or more commonly called OCD, as defined by (Obsessive, 2010), is a
type of mental illness that causes repeated unwanted thoughts. This common disorder can be
found in nearly every region and culture around the world, so even though one dealing with it

similar. According to (How Many People, 2012), their best estimates found that one within every

some type of Obsessive Compulsive Disorder. Also, they found that at least one within every two

Electronic Medical Records ( Emr )
Information Technology Technology plays a vital role on the overall productivity of a medical
practice. Electronic medical records (EMR) are commonly used by both large and small
practices. They offer practices an efficient mean of storing patient data; furthermore, the
government offer incentives for meaningful use of electronic medical records. Generally when it
comes to implementing an EMR, it is necessary to choose the right vendor. EMRs usually fall
into three vendor systems: single vendor, best of breed, and best of suite. The single vendor
strategy offers the most cost effective strategy for a small single specialty practice because it
combines both the administrative and clinical aspect of the practice; thus, allowing for a single
contract with the vendor (Naleef, Ozcan, and DeShazo, 2012). The other two vendor strategies,
while offering more flexibility, tend to require increase staffing, which may be too costly for a
small practice. Electronic medical records are not sufficient enough to efficiently run a medical
practice; therefore, other information technology is required. Computerized provider order entry
(CPOE), is another information technology that will be implemented. Prescription errors are
common causes of medical errors, which can have adverse effect on the patient and lead to
malpractice litigation against the practice. The CPOE software can be integrated within an already
established EMR system; within the CPOE, physicians are able to prescribe

Examples Of Propaganda In Rocky IV
Propaganda, and Its Relation to Epics In order to prove a point of empowerment and just
propaganda, society creates medias depicting that of an epic story, with the creator symbolising
the victor or valiant hero. Rocky IV, a boxing movie with ties to propaganda of the Cold War
between the US and Russia, is a clear example of such. From the dramatic battles, to the heros
entourage, and foil characters Rocky may as well be summarized as an epic movie. The effect of
being an epic movie also had an alternative motive for the American producers with the underlying
motive of good vs. evil, us vs. them, Americans vs. Russians. The focus of any epic story is
centered around the battles and conflicts the hero encounters. As such, Rocky encounters many
challenges. He struggles with the knowledge that he could have saved his friend from dying, he
was challenged by a foe he didn t stand a chance against, the people he loves didnВґt seem to
support him, fighting what seemed like an entire country all while representing his own, and
having the disadvantage of size and capabilities between himself and his opponent were all pushed
to the extreme. As such, many epics, if not all, are all about the grandeur or exaggeration of their
stories/plots. All situations are pushed to the extremes, everything bad is in turn excruciating, and
good is spectacular. Not only that but many epics have foil characters, characters that stand to
oppose the hero, as was RockyВґs wife. Although in this case

basically piling loads and loads of materials on top of each other in the shape of a pyramid. It

In The Cask of Amontillado and Young Goodman Brown the verbal irony examples are different

The Cask of Amontillado has its own unique purpose for verbal irony. The antagonist, Montresor,
uses his lies to lure Fortunato into trusting him. Montresor continuously expresses his care for
Fortunato s health, although his sole purpose in meeting with him is to punish with impunity (Poe
6) and extract revenge on Fortunato for causing him a thousand injuries. Edgar Allen Poe means
Montresor will give Fortunato a punishment without punishment, however, the situation becomes
ironic because burying him alive is a form of punishment. In Montresor s cynical words there are
numerous other examples of irony. In The Cask of Amontillado Montresor toasts Fortunato s life
and says In pace requiescat (Poe 13) whilst reminiscing about his horrendous crime after fifty
years. Montresor s reminiscence is significant because it shows that the crime s successful, it s
ironic because Montresor expects Fortunato to be at peace after he leaves him in a damp
catacomb to die. Similarly, Young Goodman Brown also has a gloom dying hour, after he looks
for Faith and finds a congregation that praises the Devil instead. In his eagerness to return to his
Faith, Goodman questions the circumstance and asks, but where is Faith (Hawthorne 11)? His
desire to stay out of the path that leads him to the evil shows that his morals are stronger than his
cravings to face the Devil.

Barriers to Health Promotion and Disease Prevention
Health promotion has been defined as the process of enabling people to increase control over their
health and to improve it. This process requires personal participation and supportive environments.
For people with disabilities, however, personal participation is often limited by non supportive
environments. Lack of knowledge on how to modify programs to meet specific needs, poor
attitudes, and unfriendly environments often creates insurmountable barriers to participation for
many people with disabilities. While innovative medical technology has increased the life span of
individuals with disabilities, little attention has focused on improving their healthspan. The
reportedly high incidence of chronic secondary conditions seen in persons... Show more content on

Health disparities refer to differences between groups of people. These differences can affect how
frequently a disease affects a group, how many people get sick, or how often the disease causes
death.
Many different populations are affected by disparities. These include
Racial and ethnic minorities
Residents of rural areas
Women, children, the elderly
Persons with disabilities
While better nutritional habits are a major concern for most people with and without disabilities,
there may be some specific differences in diet and nutrition guidelines pertaining to people with
specific types of disabilities. Issues related to accessing healthy foods, determining food
interactions with commonly used medications to control various secondary conditions ( pain,
seizures, depression), and establishing specific requirements for food supplements ( vitamins,
minerals, fluid intake) are all major concerns among people with certain disabilities. For
example, people with spinal cord injury have a higher rate of bone loss after their injury, which
increases their risk of osteoporosis. A few studies on persons with cerebral palsy and Down
syndrome have also reported a higher incidence of osteoporosis. While it is the recommended
daily allowance for calcium intake and vitamin D may need to be increased for certain types of
disabilities to offset the rate of bone loss, recommended guidelines are not available. There are little

Hearing Loss Association Of America
Background Hearing loss is one of the most common physical conditions in the United States. It
has been referred to as an invisible condition, as we can t see it occurring; all we see is the
effects of it (Hearing Loss Association of America). The severity of the loss can range in the
classifications of mild, moderate, severe, or profound. It can also occur in just one ear, or both.
Hearing loss can occur at any age. People can be born with deafness (which is known as
congenital hearing loss), or lose their hearing over a gradual period of time. Causes of why
hearing loss occurs vary per person. The most common cause of loss is noise and aging. Buildup
in the air, injury, ear infection, rupture eardrum are other causes as well. For children who suffer
from hearing loss, most are born with it. Today, in the United States, every two thirds of every
one thousand children are deaf or hard of hearing (Hearing Loss Association of America). This
causes their everyday lives to be shaped much differently than normal children. They may have
cochlear implants to help them hear. In fact, In the United States, more than 25,000 children have
received cochlear implants (Lenihan 2010). The child may also have a translator in the classroom
to help them understand their regular teacher or may using American Sign Language (ASL) to
help them in terms of speaking to another. How They Learn Professor Donald Moores says: The
deaf brain or mind is different from the hearing brain or mind

Coffin, Urns, And Webcast Funerals By Edward Wong
Funerals, like all industries, are changing with the times. The fact that funerals can be referred to
as an industry shows just how much they have changed. At one time a funeral was a ritual that
offered support to a community by allowing them to fall back on beliefs. Funerals now are less
impactful. A funeral today is deritualized and rationalized. They are more of an obligation than a
ritual for support. The article Coffin, Urns, and Webcast Funerals by Edward Wong is a perfect
example of the deritualization of funerals. It gives examples of how funerals have become less
interrupting and tragic. Just the idea of not having to physically be at a funeral to see it is
deritualization. The purpose of this isn t to add to the funeral for the

  • 2. Visual Response Essay In 2001, Morland et al. (2001) investigate the impact of visual dysfunction on cortical visual responses with three different studies. This studies differ in the sense that the subjects have visual deficits that are expressed at different levels of the visual system. First, they describe the effects on the cortical visual maps of abnormal retinal receptor distributions that are found in rod monochromacy (only possesses operating rod photoreceptors). Marcion believed that the Jewish Scriptures only concerned the covenant between God and the Jews of Israel, and therefore was no longer valid for the Christian church. In his mind, these were two very separate Gods. When noticing that several of Paul s writings made mention of the God of Israel, Marcion claimed that those writings were not Paul s original texts, and should be considered counterfeit. Marcion s views of Paul s forged portions of his letters can be attributed to what many theologians today might call the Slippery Slope Argument. In this case, Marcion chose not to trust in the inerrancy of what God had spoken to Paul. Paul s writing s were flawed, or someone must have tampered with them. This lack of trust in inerrancy would ultimately allow Marcion to fall down a slippery slope , giving way to forsake other important Christian foundational truths. As his ideologies became more widespread, it became obvious that Marcion s views on creation were radically reinterpreted (or misinterpreted, better yet), as well as his opinions on the doctrines of incarnation and the resurrection. Reading is necessary for growth, but one should not depend on it to change their lives; for that, they have to live simply in nature. Once they experience life s richness through nature, they are better able to develop spiritually and experience the divine. Emerson believed that man s mind is creative; he does not need only receive a sensory perception of God, but can actually create a consciousness of God. In creating this consciousness, man becomes god like. In this way, man can experience God, know God, not just know of Him, and realize a way of life that is better (more god like) than his own. • 22. Descriptive Essay On Showmanship Attention everyone, a creaky voice scratched out on the old speaker, Attention, judging for showmanship is about to begin, everyone please round up your animal and come to the ring. My nerves instantly hit me, my hands instantly became frigid, unwilling to move even one centimeter. Everywhere around there was nothing but faded denim jeans, cowboy boots, old t shirts, plaid shirts, and the occasional stetson. The screeching and bleating of surrounding animals bounced around in my head, making it more difficult to concentrate. The smell of manure and farm animal burned my nostrils as I shook my head to clear my thoughts. All around me people quickly rushed to their animals to do one last check over, pluck away the straw, fluff the wool, clear the crust, and check the hooves, all while freshening up themselves. Meanwhile I carefully took my market lamb away from the craziness and meandered to the front of the ring without a care in the world. It was fair time yet again, sometimes it brought out the best, and sometimes the worse, in people. I however was in a man s world in showing, each year I d made it my mission to clean out the competition and leave them with nothing, and this year I was going to claim showmanship yet again to my winnings. Showmanship is a big deal in showing at the fair. Winning meant recognition for all your hard work and winnings. It also meant a shiny, golden trophy with your name engraved on it. • 23. Tourette s Syndrome Case Study DESCRIPTION Tourette s Syndrome, often shortened to TS, is an inherited neurological disorder. Although the cause is unknown, studies suggest that it occurs when the nerves in the brain have trouble communicating and when there is a disturbance in the balance of neurotransmitters. It is characterized by repetitive, sudden, and involuntary movements or noises called tics. The tics can be both motorized and vocalized. Motor tics are body movements that can be simple, such as rapid eye blinking, shoulder shrugging, or nose twitching or complex, such as jumping, kicking, hopping, and spinning. Simple vocal tics include grunting, sniffing, and throat clearing, while complex vocal tics include repeating the words of others or repeating one s own words (ghr.nlm.nih.gov). About 10% of those diagnosed with TS have coprolalia, usage of obscene language, and copropraxia, making obscene movements. The syndrome does not directly affect a person s intelligence, as they function normally besides the tics, unless there is another co existing disorder. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The topic has raised moral and ethical concerns among critics. According to the Gallup poll conducted in 2014, only 13% of Americans believed cloning human beings is morally acceptable (May, 2016). This shows a disapproval of such technology by the public. Human reproductive cloning is the creation of an individual who has identical nuclear genetic material (DNA) to an existing human being, and who is allowed to develop to term and beyond (Bio Centre, n.d.). This science uses somatic cell nuclear transfer (SCNT). Dolly, the sheep, was the first mammal cloned using this technology, and its possible utility for human cloning has been argued ever ... Reproductive SCNT involves the production of a child through an asexual procedure, a fundamental departure from natural or assisted conception (ex: IVFs) in which a child s genome is unique from either parent (Daar et al., 2016). Some orthodox Christians believe that this method destroys the link between a human relationship and the being of a child (Bio Centre, n.d.). Reproductive cloning may harm children psychologically. Parents might harbor unfair expectations on the child, and this can hinder the child s personal growth and undermine the child s interests in forming a unique identity (Daar et al., 2016). Yet, for me personally, the earliest memories I have of sports were watching my older brother play basketball on the hoop in our front yard. Before I knew it, I was out on the basketball court at 5, playing in games with my father, brother and neighbors. At 6 when I first started kindergarten, my parents signed me for a winter YMCA basketballleague where I began to shine. Being one of the few kids on the team that could dribble the ball and actually take shots, I played the point guard position and was constantly given the ball. Seeing my success in the basketball league, my parents wanted me to play little league next, with the hope that it would be as successful as basketball. Evidently, my parent s intuition about my athletic ability was correct. In little league, I was one of the few kids who could throw the ball across the diamond. Naturally, as I was one of the few kids that could field, I was relegated to second base and occasionally shortstop. While I may have felt that I was one of the best hitters on the team at the time, reflection on my past reminds me that I always had trouble with swinging the bat. Every Australian citizen who is aged 18 years or more can vote in a federal electionif validly enrolled and not disqualified from voting. Australia s constitution has framed the progressive democracy Australia has become, however there is debate on the derivation of this right to vote and on the extent of the protection of that right. The right is not constitutional at all, instead being governed by international treaty obligations and commonwealth legislation. The right to vote has been defined as the right to cast a ballot in an election. However, in order to fulfil the democratic objective of representative government, modern definitions require that the vote cast is effective, that each individual may only vote a single time and that franchise is equal. Electronic medical records (EMR) are commonly used by both large and small practices. They offer practices an efficient mean of storing patient data; furthermore, the government offer incentives for meaningful use of electronic medical records. Generally when it comes to implementing an EMR, it is necessary to choose the right vendor. EMRs usually fall into three vendor systems: single vendor, best of breed, and best of suite. The single vendor strategy offers the most cost effective strategy for a small single specialty practice because it combines both the administrative and clinical aspect of the practice; thus, allowing for a single contract with the vendor (Naleef, Ozcan, and DeShazo, 2012). The other two vendor strategies, while offering more flexibility, tend to require increase staffing, which may be too costly for a small practice. Electronic medical records are not sufficient enough to efficiently run a medical practice; therefore, other information technology is required. Computerized provider order entry (CPOE), is another information technology that will be implemented. Prescription errors are common causes of medical errors, which can have adverse effect on the patient and lead to malpractice litigation against the practice. Rocky IV, a boxing movie with ties to propaganda of the Cold War between the US and Russia, is a clear example of such. From the dramatic battles, to the heros entourage, and foil characters Rocky may as well be summarized as an epic movie. The effect of being an epic movie also had an alternative motive for the American producers with the underlying motive of good vs. evil, us vs. them, Americans vs. Russians. The focus of any epic story is centered around the battles and conflicts the hero encounters. As such, Rocky encounters many challenges. He struggles with the knowledge that he could have saved his friend from dying, he was challenged by a foe he didn t stand a chance against, the people he loves didnВґt seem to support him, fighting what seemed like an entire country all while representing his own, and having the disadvantage of size and capabilities between himself and his opponent were all pushed to the extreme. As such, many epics, if not all, are all about the grandeur or exaggeration of their stories/plots. All situations are pushed to the extremes, everything bad is in turn excruciating, and good is spectacular.
