Tetrahydrocannabinol Essay
Marijuana s active ingredient is tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) it contains a chemical compound
called cannabinoids which are naturally found in the human anatomy. THC affects the central
nervous system by binding to cannabinoid receptors that are present in the brain which triggers a
euphoric response. The active ingredient in marijuana is quickly absorbed by the blood and has an
immediate effect on the brain and other drugs. The drug comes from the hemp plant Cannabissativa
and it s the seeds and leaves that are used and also the flowers are usually dried. (Above the
Influence, 2015)
THC resembles a neurotransmitter anandamide and mimics its actions. When THC binds to
cannabinoid receptors it removes the refractory period in neurons. Refractory period is when
excitable cells are not able to respond to stimuli as the cell needs to recover after firing an action
potentials. The refractory period also ensures that the action potential are transmitted in one
direction. When THC binds to cannabinoids receptors it prevents the refractory period from
occurring which results in action potentials constantly being fired and this causes thoughts,
thinking and imagination to amplify. Another effect that occurs is that an individual is unable to
retain memories. (Intheknowzone.com, 2015)
The behavioural changes that occurs when a person takes marijuana is that it impairs judgment and
reasoning skills for example individuals that take marijuana on a regular basis and these individuals

End Of World Research Paper
The end of the world is upon us as the storm of the century approaches U.S. waters. Could this be
the end of civilization as predicted by the prophets? The end of world predictions have been
reported by the thousands from multiple sources around the globe, and it may happen in 2017. The
beginning of the end could be a massive storm expected to hit the coast of America.
The end of world will happen in 2017, and governments are urging all ships to stay away from
America
Reports around the Kremlin issued by the Russian Ministry of Transportation warn of a large
storm to hit America. They are advising all ships to stay clear of the Atlantic waters off the coast
of the U.S. for at least the next 14 days. The storm hailed by experts as the storm of the century

Fluorescence Lab
8)
As we know in UV spectroscopy the sample is between the source and the detector. So the light
starts from the source and goes through the sample and ends in the detector. On the other hand in
fluorescence spectroscopy the light is imparted at all angle as a result the detector misses a lot of
light. This is a reason that fluorescence spectroscopy is more sensitive that UV spectroscopy.
9)
As previously mentioned after absorbing energy an electron can jump from the ground state (lowest
energy) to many excited states (higher energy). The UV spectroscopy uses the transitions from the
ground state to the excited states, and gives results about the molecules. In this case we have a huge
number of transitions, and we notice several absorption ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
But on the other hand the opposite process, the emission occurs over a long period of time. Thus
fluorescence quenching is used to extend the lifetime of the excited level. Consequently we achieve
to investigate molecular interactions and detect dynamic processes in biochemical and biophysical
related problems, with the fluorescence spectroscopy. Moreover quenching leads to intermolecular
deactivation. So the decrease of intensity is illustrated by Stern Volmer equation:
Iof / I f = 1+kq * П„Ої * Q
14)
Sometimes when we have a molecule it is necessary to identify the specific chemical groups and
elements in this molecule. In a fluorescence excitation spectrum we usually notice one single
fluorescence band. As we know specific elements, and chemical groups such as amino acids,
absorbs in specific wavelengths. For instance the tryptophan absorbs maximum at 280nm. So if we
notice this peak in a fluorescence spectrum immediately we know that our molecule contains that
amino acid. Knowing where most elements and chemical groups absorb, we are able to identify our
molecule.

Online Shopping Vs Brick And Mortar
Online Shopping vs Brick and Mortar Times are changing faster than ever. It seems like only
yesterday that mail order catalogs, grocery stores, and shopping malls were the places to shop for
items for our homes and our lives. As with all things, technology advances us to places we would
have scoffed at in times past, and as technology advances, so do our shoppingtrends. Today, the
high energy bustle of the malls of America is dwindling down to lonely, dilapidated store fronts
with space for rent signs becoming more numerous as the surviving stores that reach out and gasp

4) Brick and mortar stores may have the upper hand when it comes to discounts. Local sale ads
can reveal money saving sales that can vary between time periods. Customers can plan shopping
trips around the posted sales. In addition to sale ads, newspaper coupons can save a lot of money.
Combining the two can save even more when customers take into account what the store sales

Customer loyalty scan cards are another way that can save money in the store. Once signed up,
loyalty cards can personalize future discounts or coupons based on past purchases on top of
discounts included during the current purchase transaction (Buderi 4). These loyalty scan cards
many times can be used in conjunction with other sales and added coupons. Another option for
brick and mortar stores is price matching. To compete with online stores, brick and mortar stores
can opt to equal a sale price advertised at another store. On the idea of customer service in the

Essay on The Most Effective Absolute Rulers
The Most Effective Absolute Rulers During the late 1400s and 1500s, many rulers took great
measures to centralize political power and place it in their own hands. This lead to the occurrence
of absolute monarchies, some of which I thought were overall very effective. In absolute
monarchies, theoretically the monarchis all powerful, with no legal limitations to his or her
authority. Absolutism in Europe was characteristically justified by the doctrine of divine right,
according to which the monarch reigns all powerfully by the will of God. The intention of
absolute monarchs is to utilize his or her power in an effective, better organized way, despite its
weaknesses or negative consequences; and from my perspective, I would have to say... Show more

He also increased the size of the army, gave soldiers better training and introduced new weapons
to military. I personally think that the life of Louis XIV had its many ups and downs, but over
all he was a very good man and effective ruler. If it were not for Louis XIV, France would be a
very different place today. I m surprised he is responsible for many elegant buildings in France
and especially Paris. Despite all the wrong things he did that hurt his nation, I think it could have
probably gotten worse if he had not come along. Even today it interests me that Louis s armies,
that were opposed by an alliance of the European powers, lost most of their major battles, but won
control of Spain.
For my part, Frederick the Great В– a great general as well as a skilled absolute monarch В– was
one of the most effective absolute monarchs of his time. I think he was an effective absolute
monarch because of his contribution to the small but militarily powerful German state of Prussia in
becoming an absolute monarchy. The rise of Prussia between 1600s and 1700s occurred as a result
of a combination of military, political, and social factors lead by Frederick s contribution. I chose
Frederick II as a great effective absolute monarch based on his actions that affected his people. He
did many great things for the significance of his absolute monarchy. Frederick II of Prussia made
reforms and changes that were ideas of the Enlightenment. He wanted to further his country and

Wells Fargo shows a much higher profitability ratio than Samsung, with over 8X that of
Samsung. This is to be expected as services are typically more profitable than hardware sales
which operate on leaner margins. Wells Fargo also outperforms Samsung significantly on return on
sales with over 25X better performance. This again is attributable to better margins on services
than hardware. Wells Fargo has a much stronger return on equity than Samsung with a Dupont ratio
over 5X higher than Samsung s. Samsung has a stronger financial leverage ratio than Wells Fargo
with almost 20% lower ratio for Samsung. Samsung also has a much lower total asset turnover
than Wells Fargo. This is attributable to the quick turnover of assets in the manufacturing industry
compared to the slow turnover of assets in the financial services sector. With Samsung being the
only international company evaluated, there doesn t seem to be any significant impact of IASB
over FASB standards for accounting. With the ratios used, the core components of the balance

The Ethics Of Being Earnest Essay
As I understood, The Importance of Being Earnest is on the ethics of the British high society, and
it utilizes comedic drama to do so. For instance, the use of comedy taunts the measures to which the
high society holds themselves. The gentry had faith in orchestrated relational unions, unions
between families to contain the riches among the few. Moms searched out courteous fellows of
that particular high society quality for their sensitive little girls. Woman Bracknell solicits a
number from questions that she accepts are fundamental for a decent spouse for her little girl:
what is his pay, how old is he, where does he live, what are his governmental issues. The most vital
inquiry, in any case, is who is his family, on the grounds that the family name is what is imperative

The Effect Of Anti Microbial Products On Zone Of Inhibition
The Effect of Anti Microbial Products on Zone of Inhibition
Background Information:
Bacteria, singular form bacterium, are microorganisms which belong to their own animal kingdom
Kingdom Monera. All bacteria are alive and require to reproduce and eat. In the experiment, the
bacteria used is called Staphylococcus aureus, which can cause a variety of diseases (e.g.
meningitis, boils and abscesses, osteomyelitis, pneumonia etc.). Various strains of Staphylococcus
aureus are resistant to some antibiotics and has become a health concern. As more and more
antibiotics are used to treat bacterial infections/diseases, eventually there will be a point when the
bacterium will grow immune to it. Thus, this makes Staphylococcus aureus serious as it almost
completely immune to benzyl penicillin.
Within the experimented there were three different anti microbial products that were investigated
Bosisto s Eucalyptus Oil 200mL, Bleach and Coles Methylated Spirits.
According to the bottle with the eucalyptus oil, it had claimed that it is 100% pure with
pharmaceutical eucalyptus oil derived from Eucalyptus polybractera (Blue Mallee). This product
can be applied on minor wounds, cold and flu symptoms, aches and pains, stains, clothing as well
as cleaning but has no claims about what percentage of bacteria it kills but online sources claim it as
one of the most effective methods of curing Staphylococcus aureus.
The bleach used in the practical had no claims but according to online

Nothing Can Be Perceived and One Should Not Assent to...
1.There are two statement made by academicians which we decided to argue against to the best of
your ability: (a) nothing can be perceived; (b) one should not assent to anything.
Please critically assess the academicians assertion to the effect that nothing can be perceived and
one should not assent to anything.
пѓЁ Before answering the essay question, I would like to introduce Augustine and the new academy
academicians (Plato s successors). Augustine is a philosopher and theologian that was born in 13
November 354 and his first language is Latin. He was famous with writings that influenced a lot
of people and helped in developing the western Christianity and philosophy. However, in the east
his teaching was not accepted at all. In addition, at age of 11, he started his educational path at
madaurus and at the age of 17, he continued his education in a Carthage where he started his
education in rhetoric. Furthermore, He was well recognized as Saint Augustine and was viewed
as the father of western church. Augustin most recognizable work and still read and appreciated
till now are city of god and confession. Augustine first vision into nature happened when he and
his friends stole some fruits from the neighbor s garden. Finally, He died in 28 August 430, so he
lived seventy five years old.
Moving to some of the new academy history, Plato originated the academy in 387 BC in Athens and
one of its unique students is Aristotle. Aristotle stayed and studied for about twenty

How Did Bartolome De Las Casas Seulveda
The way that this debate, between BartolomГ© de Las Casas and Juan Gines Sepulveda, played
out allows us to see both sides of the dispute. Las Casas was formerly from the Spanish military,
during which time he served in Cuba with direct contact to the Native Americans. Because of
this influence on this life, and some of the people that he met while he worked there, he then
dedicated himself to improving life for the native people. Later, in August of 1550, he engaged
in a debate with Sepulveda which was called the Great Debate at Valladolid before the Council
for the Indies. Meanwhile, Sepulveda was a Spanish philosopher, who never personally visited the
New World but who still argued against the Native American rights during the Great Debate. And I
feel that this in itself, each of the debaters backstories, says a lot about their position and how it is
so much easier to convince yourself and others that a group of people aren t human when you haven

because God had told them to do it, and it meant that they were doing the right thing. No one else

Black Dwarf Research Paper
Stars are born, grow old, and die, at rates that are related to their mass and any external pressures
acting on them, similar to the life cycle of all living things in the universe. The process in which
stars change dramatically throughout their existence is called stellar evolution and can take
millions to billions of years. Stellar evolution describes how stars transform over time, from birth,
through life, which includes growth, and ending in death. Fusion, the force that generates energy, is
balanced by the pull of gravity, resulting in the progression and development of the star.
Stars begin their life cycle as molecular clouds, or nebula. Some event, such as a shock wave or
collision of a galaxy, causes the cloud to collapse and form smaller pieces, which contract inward
and form a protostar. As the star... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Once the helium in the core is exhausted, the star emits its outer layers into space, contracts down,
and emerges as a White Dwarf. Ultimately, the White Dwarf will lose all of its energy, collapse due
to gravity, and enter a Black Dwarf stage. No Black Dwarfs have been observed in our universe
because the time it takes for a White Dwarf to cool completely is likely to be trillions of years. A
Black Dwarf is simply an explanation for what would result following the death of a White Dwarf.
In larger stars, the core s temperature increases enough to burn carbon into neon. Burning and
contraction are repeated until iron is established in the core. The pressure of neutrons will
interrupt the collapse of the core, creating a neutron star. The sudden cease in the contraction of
the core allows some of the mass to flow inward. The core becomes heavier and can t tolerate it s
own gravitational force. This creates a shock wave blowing the outer layer of the star apart in a
core collapse supernova eruption. This explosion results in the distribution of elements throughout

Eutrophication Essay
Eutrophication comes from the Greek word eutrophos meaning well nourished. In other words, this
natural process found in water occurs as a result of additional rich nutrients forming a flourish in
plant production.
At this moment in time, eutrophication is causing worldwide devastation to not only aquatic life,
but the fishing industry. The release of nutrients into fresh water lakes, rivers and reservoirs leads to
excessive growth of three different plant species:
a) Open water algae (phytoplankton)
b) Attached algae (periphyton)
c) Higher plants (macrophytes)
Above all, these organisms encourage the growth of algae, which absorb dissolved oxygen in the
water essential for the survival of fish populations. Occasionally, ... Show more content on

This is an example of phytoplankton as it is suspended freely on the surface of most rivers and
lakes. Now, of course, the open water algae have optimum solar energy, a sufficient supply of
water from below and carbon dioxide which is absorbed from either the water or sediments.
Photosynthesis is more likely to happen and trigger the production of algal blooming [Fig 2] as
oxygen will stimulate plant respiration.
I believe that low dissolved oxygen (DO) is the most destructive effect of eutrophication, depriving
aquatic life of food and natural habitats. Nevertheless high concentrations of DO may assist algae
in their production, so adequate proportions are essential to ensure a constant environment. Other
factors associated with this process include too much organic matter which is made up of carbon
atoms and carbon carbon, C C bonds. This indirectly effects fish life as eggs and food sources are
smothered.

1.8 Connection
Connections Report 1.8 Connections
The theme of love connection between people is a very important part of life. I choose this theme
as it is a very relevant and relatable subject for many people in our society. The four texts I chose
were: the fictional novel Delirium , by Lauren Oliver, the song Blank Space by Taylor Swift, song
Same Love by Macklemore and fictional novel Girl Online , by Zoe Sugg. There was a strong
connection of love between two people in all of these texts.
The first text that I looked at that showed the connection of love was Delirium. This novel discusses
the connection of love. Love is the main theme of this novel. The main character ... Show more

This song is about the struggles society creates for people identifying as a homosexual and
discusses equality and discrimination of people that like the same sex. Macklemore was driven to
write this song because of the issue of equal marriage right and the use of gay as degrading word
in society and in the hip hop industry. He wanted to set an example for others in the music industry,
and help change the stereotypes of homosexuality. As Macklemore writes in his song a bunch of
stereotypes all in my head this shows that society riddles our brains into thinking that it isn t
alright to be gay, when really it is. These stereotypes make it hard for people to feel accepted
about their sexuality. This song discusses how gay is used in an insultive way as quoted in the
lyrics; If I was gay I would think hip hop hates me, Have you read the YouTube comments lately,
Man that s gay Gets dropped on the daily, We ve become so numb to what we re sayin These
examples show the connection of love, but in a different way to what we would usually expect.
This song has a different view on the connection of love compared to other books with the theme
of love, as it is about homosexuality rather than heterosexuality. In my opinion I think what
Macklemore is trying to convey is very smart, and I believe that there should be equality on who
you love. I also thing that the words such as gay shouldn t be used with such negative connotations,
and I m sure many others in our society would

Theme Of Archetypes In Romeo And Juliet
Carl Gustav Jung, a Swiss psychiatrist and psychoanalyst who was the founder analytical
psychology, once stated: The contents of the collective unconscious are archetypes, primordial
images that reflect basic patterns that are common to us all, and which have existed universally
since the dawn of time (Carl Gustav Jung). Originally published in 1597, William Shakespeare
devised a renowned play about two star crossed lovers, Romeo and Juliet. Most can argue that a
prominent factor behind the choice of language throughout this play was influenced by archetypes
and the psychological aspect behind them, depicting patterns that reside within a collective
unconscious, universally apparent and populated by instinct. Throughout the romantic, yet
devastating, story of Romeo and Juliet,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Carl Jung investigated this realm of consciousness and discovered that human beings, as a species,
encompass almost identical traits of thought under our collective unconsciousness, which is the
determining component of how the world is considered in perspective, including the symbolism
apparent in religion, mythology, and other historical documents. In the play, Romeo and Juliet,
Shakespeare harnessed this knowledge in order to convey his ideas with text that ensured the
readers understood his story and could base a personal interpretation from it. Thus, after analyzing
the dreams of schizophrenic patients, ancient symbolism, mythology, religion, biology, and
evolution, one can come to the conclusion that each of these areas can, in fact, be proven to have a
correlating relationship with the human psyche, adapting to its conditions yet never losing its
mutual and uniting bond through time and

The Electric Drive Revolution And Electric Cars
Capstone Introduction Paragraph
The electric drive revolution will become accepted and advance over time, just like computers and
cell phones have over the last few days (anonymous). Electric cars have been around for many
years. But they just started coming back around in the 21st century. Before anyone who had
charging stations they would have to switch out their battery for their electric car whenever it ran
out. The electric cars were created to basically compete with gas powered cars. They were also
created to reduce the pollution created by gas cars. Countries all over the world have started to
create more and more electric cars. In fact, in this exact moment Japan already has more
charging stations than gas stations which could possibly mean that they already have more
electric cars than gas cars. The first electric car was created in the early 1900 s by Thomas
Edison. People are only starting to go back to electric cars because charging stations were
invented. With charging stations in place now people won t have to rely on gas stations and gas
powered cars, they will only rely on the more environment friendly charging stations and electric
cars. Also with electric cars you have a lot more options to pick from when it comes to batteries
to buy and charge. You can use lead acid batteries, zinc air batteries, and many more. Plus using
electricity instead of gas is a lot cheaper. With time, gas powered cars will become extinct. Electric
cars will continue to

The next revolution in car production took place not in the United States but in Japan. A change in
management thinking occurred there when Ohno Taiichi, a Toyota production engineer, pioneered
the development of lean manufacturing in the 1960s after touring the US plants of the Big Three
car companies. The management philosophy behind lean manufacturing is to continuously п¬Ѓnd
methods to improve the efficiency of the production process in order to reduce costs, increase
quality, and reduce car assembly time. In lean manufacturing, workers work on a moving
production line, but they are organized into small teams, each of which is responsible for a
particular phase of car assembly, such as installing the car s transmission or electrical wiring
system. Each team member is expected to learn all the tasks of all members of his or her team,
and each work group is charged with the responsibility not only to assemble cars but also to
continuously п¬Ѓnd ways to increase quality and reduce costs. By 1970, Japanese managers had
applied the new lean production system so efficiently that they were producing higher quality
cars at lower prices than their US counterparts, and by 1980 Japanese companies were dominating
the global car market. To compete with the Japanese, managers at the Big Three car makers visited
Japan to learn lean production methods. In recent years, Chrysler Canada has been the North
American model for speed in automobile production. Chrysler s Windsor, Ontario

China produced 3.1 million university graduates in 2005 compared to 1.3 million in the USA.
The proportion of 18 22year olds attending Chinese universities last year was 15 per cent
compared to 7 per cent in 1995. Stronger economic growth has been outstripped by the growth in
higher education. It is generally expected that competition for entry level white collar jobs will
become much fiercer. Unfortunately, fewer than 10 per cent of graduates in China have the skills
to work for a foreign company and there are continuing, not to say growing, shortages of both mid
level and senior level managers. In the past, many multinationals relied on expatriate managers to
oversee their China operations. The current trends show an increased localisation of staff. Forty per
cent of foreign companies have trouble filling mid level and high level positions in China. Adding
to the problem for MNCs has been the entrance of local Chinese firms to the market, often referred
to as the ``reverse brain drain . In ten years, China will need 75,000 managers with international
experience. Currently, it has only about 5,000 with such talent. The management talent in China is
mainly first generation. The challenge of attracting and especially retaining management talent in
China is rising. The average tenure of mid and high level executives in China is eight to 12 months.

Persuasive Essay On The Problems Of A Teacher
Many students and teachers in Seneca share the same goal: to make sure grades are high. For
grades to stay up, it s important that teachers make sure their students do well in class especially
on the tests. This may not seem like a problem, but it is. Students are incapable of learning to the
best of their abilities because of teachers tendencies to focus specifically on testing. In my high
school career so far, I have experienced many occasions in which this thought process has been
apparent. For me, science labs have been the most prevalent for this method of teaching. Science
has always been a class that I would receive good grades in, but looking back, it wasn t for the
right reasons. My high grades in a class like Biology didn t come from insight on how the cell
works and how all the organelles work together like a city; they came from weeks of drilling
facts and information into my brain so I could regurgitate them onto a piece of paper that meant
more to me only because it was called a test or quiz. I end up getting an A on the test which
supposedly shows that my teacher did a good job teaching. It seems like a win win situation for
both parties, but in reality, this way of teaching is problematic. The issue with teaching to the test is
it impedes students from truly understanding the content. Instead of having students go deep into a
topic and fully comprehending it from several angles, some teachers will choose a question and
only consider one way to solve it.

The Importance of Class in American Discourse, and the...
Americans avoid broaching the subject of class in America, notes Mantsios (2006). To support
his claim, Mantsios (2006) states that most poor people in the United States identify first with
their racial heritage, ethnic heritage, or geographic location. Members of the working class do
not consider themselves part of a collective of workers, but rather as employees of a specific
company. References to a middle class are, according to Mantsios (2006), usually done by
politicians to pander to the broadest possible constituency, (p. 183). When relative wealth or
poverty is addressed in the mainstream media, it is done so without reference to the structural
issues that cause income disparity. Mantsios (2006) proceeds to outline several myths, including
the overarching myth that America is a classless society (p. 183). The second of his four main
myths related to class in America is that Despite some variations in economic status, most
Americans have achieved relative affluence in what is widely recognized as a consumer society,
(p. 184). Certainly, to a villager in Zimbabwe a poor American might seem to have relative
affluence. Yet within the broader scheme of American society, it seems insulting to claim validity to
this myth. Mantsios (2006) offers some hypothetical case studies to highlight the importance of
class in American discourse, and the falsehood of the myth of universal affluence. Bob Farrell s
ambition as a child was to become President. This

Reality In The Allegory Of The Cave By Plato
Reality is a concept that is different to most people; it is generally what humans perceive to be true
and normal. However, in the passage The Allegory of the Cave, written by Plato, he tells about a
circumstance where the reality is not the truth. Since the beginning of time, human s ability to
understand reality is limited by their inability to prioritize, their stubbornness, and their skewed
ethics.
Humans often prioritize their own wants, desires, and beliefs making it difficult for them to find
reality. Their natural desire is to be comfortable and to stick with what they know well. If they do
not feel comfortable in a situation they tend to stray away from it. Humans often resist change for
this very reason. The man that became unshackled ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Since the people in the cave were held captive their entire life they do not know what is really out
there in the real world. When the man becomes exposed to the real world and comes back down to

and shut him up; their stubborn actions caused them to remain ignorant to reality (684). This is
still true in today s society as well, many Americans would rather not know what is happening
behind the curtain and remain ignorant than know about all the wrong that is happening. Even the
man that was exposed to the outside was hesitant, he was reluctantly dragged up a steep and
rugged slope to see the real world (684). Even the humans who are exposed to reality are initially
cautions to the whole ordeal but in their mind they are compelled to follow through with it for the
better of society. The prisoner who was unchained and exposed to the over world ultimately
decided to go back into the cave to tell the other prisoners about it. He basically sacrificed his
freedom for the people still living in darkness because he wanted to better their lives as well

Abstract
This paper presents a Dynamic Programming (DP) method based an algorithm to solve the Unit
Commitment (UC) scheduling of the thermal generation units in Yangon. Electricity demands are
in its peak in Yangon, it has become very difficult for operators to fulfill the demand in the present.
The main objective of Unit Commitment is to determine a minimum cost turn on and turn off
schedule of a set of electrical power generating units to meet a load demand while satisfying a set of
operational constraints. The total production costs include fuel, startup, shutdown, and no load
costs. There are many conventional and evolutionary programming methods used for solving the
unit commitment problem. Dynamic programming method is one of the successful approaches to
unit commitment problem. Dynamic Programming has many advantages over the enumeration
scheme, the chief advantage being a reduction in the dimensionality of the problem. It is one of the
refined algorithm design standards and is powerful tool which yields definitive algorithm for
various types of optimization problems. To implement the unit commitment problem into an
optimization program, the MATLABВ® software is used.

The Politics Of The 1960s And 1960s
As political climates change, so do the themes found within cinema. The 1960s and 1970s were a
time of change for America. Feminism, civil rights movements, and gay rights movements were
all progressing, and liberal values were becoming more and more prevalent among the younger
generation. For conservatives, the 60s and 70s were seen as a time of decline; as a low point in
American history, and a time of regression in American society. The progressive and liberal values
were not positive changes for all Americans, but the changes were coming about nonetheless.
However, in the late 1970 s and the 1980 s there was a dramatic shift in the themes found in
American cinema that reflected the neo conservative political changes. With the... Show more

312) Stallone s character is the archetypal male hero tough, confident, and above the law (though
it s alright because he is the hero saving the day). On the other hand, the female lead (played by
Brigitte Nielson) is the archetypal damsel in distress beautiful, but unable to take care of herself
as she is rescued in the end by the male lead. The scene where Brigitte Nielson is saved by
Sylvester Stallone as a masculine, patriotic song plays behind them reflects the patriarchal ideals of
the 1950s. The idea that men are above women; the idea that women need to be saved; the idea that
women cannot help themselves. These demonstrated ideals set back the progress in feminism that
was established throughout the 60s and 70s. Furthermore, in terms of attacking the audience,
Needham puts an emphasis on the opening credits of this film, and for good reason. The opening
credits are used as a tactic to manipulate the American audience; to make them feel as if they are
being threatened. The film begins with a barrel of a gun being pointed at the audience, as Sylvester
Stallone s voice is listing American crime statistics in the background. At the end of the credits, the
gun fires a slow motion bullet towards the audience. On this, Needham says, we, the audience,
America, are quite literally under attack. (Needham, 2016, p. 313) This symbolism reappears at the
end of the film, where the American audience is once again

Tuberculosis As A Contagious Disease
What is Tuberculosis? Tuberculosis, TB for short, is an ancient disease that has been around even
before the first recorded disease in the history. This disease can be found in Egyptian mummies

TB is not spread by shaking someone s hand, sharing food or drink, touching bed lines or toilet

Seletar Airport is chosen as the main location for JAS main headquarters and maintenance plant.
The total land space available is roughly two hectares in size and would be sufficient to house a
decent aircraft hangar and office space. Within the airport itself, an existing runway (03/21) with a
distance of 1,592 meters long and 46 meters wide would be available to carry out test flights
conveniently.
Though JAS primary provides MRO services such as maintenance and repair for a wide range of
small business aircrafts, its main focus shall be the manufacturing, assembling and sale of the
Diamond DA42 twin star aircraft. Sales target are set at three of this business jet per month from
the start of JAS operations.
JAS new single engine trainer aircraft, JetStream Flyer would begin its design phase concurrently
from the start of operations and set to be in operations and delivered by year 2011. Its target sales
potential would be at least of five aircrafts per month from year 2013 onwards.
To further enhance JAS services to customers, the in house engineers would provide aircraft
maintenance advice and workshops for customers.

African American Voting Rights For African Americans
When Washington was delivering the Atlanta Exposition he claimed that according of the full
exercise of political rights is going to be a matter of natural, slow growth, not an over night [Sic]
gourd vine affair . However, Du Bois believed that it was necessary to agitate and upset to gain
voting rights for African Americans, essentially believing that their freedom and their right to vote
had to be explosive and upset the social order. Through political power, Du Bois felt that economic
security and material gains could be achieved. But Washington opposed the direct militancy of Du
Bois. Washington made the point that the militancy would only serve to upset the whites in the
south, which in turn would limit African Americanvoting rights. Much of their differences in
suffrage can be understood through their respective backgrounds. Washington was a former slave,
so his experiences later affected how he viewed voting. His subservience to his masters as to not
upset or cause unnecessary violence is apparent in his pragmatic and slow evolving voting ideals.
While Du Bois grew up in a white European neighborhood in Boston, Massachusetts, relatively
secluded from the Jim Crow Lawsof the South. Du Bois self proclaimed elitist attitude, reveals the
most important difference and reasoning between him and Washington on the matter of the need
for African American suffrage. Du Bois, from experience, knew that suffrage in the north was a far

Microbes play an important role in the acquisition and transfer of nutrients in soil (Richardson,
2001). Therefore, the utilization of soil microbes to activate minerals and enhance nutrient uptake in
plants has attracted increasing attention in sustainable agriculture (Fayez and Mahmoud, 2006).
Phosphorus (P) is one of the major essential macronutrients for plants. In India, it is estimated that
there are almost 260 million tons of phosphate rock deposits and this material should provide a
cheap source of phosphate fertilizer for crop production (FAI 2002). Although in soil P is available
abundantly its bioavailability in soil remains low due to the chemical transformations of P into
insoluble forms (RodrГguez and Fraga 1999) and thus a major constraint to the plant growth and
crop production (Chiquito Contreras et al., 2012). Bacteria with PS activity have been considered as
one of the possible alternatives for mediating inorganic phosphate solubilization and increasing its
availability to the plants (Rodriguez et al., 2006).
Iron (Fe) is an essential plant micronutrient and microbial siderophores enhance Fe uptake by
plants (Kloepper et al., 1980; Katiyar and Goel, 2004; Dimkpa et al., 2009) and thus plays an
important role in plant growth promotion. Although large portion of Fe is present in soil it acts as a

Frederick Douglass Chapter 3 Analysis
In the first chapter of the book Narrative of the life of Frederick Douglass, Frederick douglass
gives us first hand stories about him being a young slave. Frederick was not allowed to go to his
mother s burial and he did not know his own birthday as well both of which I find very crazy
because everyone knows their birthday but for slaves that was a common occurrence, and to not
be able to see your own mother s burial sounds awful. Douglass also witnessed the whipping of his
aunt at a young age and he wrote about it in extreme detail, for any young child this must be
scaring. The whipping was a punishmentfor Douglass s aunt because she went to see another slave
from a different plantation, in my opinion this is a incredibly harsh punishment for trying to
visit another slave. Douglass Says It was a most terrible spectacle. I wish I could commit to
paper the feelings with which I beheld it (Douglass 4). Douglass says this when he is talking
about his aunt getting whipped, he is saying that it was so bad to watch he could not even put his
feeling into words. All of these events emphasize how bad it really was to be a slave and stripped
of rights and to be treated like property.
Unfair slave masters
In chapter 3 douglass puts high emphasis on Colonel Lloyd and how he treated the slaves.
Douglass talks about how there are so many slaves on his plantation many of the slaves don t even
know what he looks like. Colonel Lloyd is very rich from his plantation and owns horses

Rogues, Rascals, And Scoundrels Analysis
In Rogues, Rascals, and Scoundrels, Daniel Williams claims that criminal literature in America has
evolved over the last few centuries in three stages. The first stage took place in the seventeenth
century, when executions were extremely popular and attended by thousands of Americans
(Williams 6). Since executions were so popular, it was inevitable that the execution sermons would
not be published (6). The first execution sermons were published as an attempt to make others fear
God, as the narratives would include descriptions of how ashamed and remorseful the criminal was
for their crimes (Williams 8). Self hatred and sincerity were not unusual in published confessions,
criminals often expressed repentance for their crimes and thanked the... Show more content on

Justice And Retributive Justice
Eye for an eye, tooth for a tooth, life for a life . If someone commits a wrong then they must be
punished, they must be punished with a wrong that is equal to the harm that they have caused. This
is retributive justice. Retribution is the punishment that has been given to someone for a wrongful
or criminal act. Retributive justice is the type of justice that considers punishmentas the best way to
respond to the wrongful or criminal act that has been committed. Based on ethical belief, the
punishment must fit the crimein order to achieve a fair and equal response. The code of Hammurabi
is a Babylonian law code that dates back to 1772 BC. In this code, one of the key laws is: If a man

This is thought to create fairness as there has been a repayment for the wrong that has been
caused. In society, many people believe that is unfair for a person to do something wrong and not
be appropriately punished for it, that it is important for the person to pay in full for the wrongful
act they committed. The idea is that if someone does something that is wrong and/or hurtful they
should not get away with it. Instead they should have to suffer as they made others suffer.
According to proponents of retributive justice, if a person steals from another, it is only fair that
that person has something stolen from them. If a person takes the life of another, then it is only
fair that that person as their life taken too. If a person who has committed a wrongful act and is not
punished fairly, an imbalance in society is created. This may lead to the victim not feeling as

The United States Of The Industrial Revolution
Earth provides enough to satisfy every man s needs, but not every man s greed. Mahatma Gandhi
Since the start of the Industrial Revolution the United States of America has been dependent on
burning fossil fuels for energy. In 2015 nearly sixty seven percent of energy generated in the United
States was from fossil fuels including coal, natural gas, and petroleum. The United Stateshad been
aware of a large abundance of natural gas in shalerock formations thousands of feet below the
surface; however, when they first found these rocks around 1940 there was no technology or
tools advanced enough to drill into these rocks, until the 1970s and 1980s. Companies worked
endlessly finding a way to allow shale rocks to release the gas that they held. Companies
eventually came up with a practice called hydraulic fracturing, also known as fracking; this
process utilizes water pressure to fracture or break a rock in order to release and collect fuel such
as gas or oil. In recent years, companies have mixed sand, chemicals and other proponents to
retrieve the maximum amount of gas that each drilling site has to offer. A heated debate has begun
concerning these mixtures and the money involved in fracking. While one side asserts that fracking
should be banned because of potential environmental damage produced by the fracking mixtures,
others claim that fracking should continue because of potential gains it could provide for the
economy in the United States.

Ted Gardner s Theory Of Multiple Intelligences
You re a genius! As this compliment rings in your head imagine that someone is referring to your
ability to understand yourself, or even your ability to interact with other people. Under Gardner s
Theory of multiple intelligences each and every one of us have different intelligence strengths, our
individual strengths are important in how we develop. Possibly making more unconventional
geniuses. Knowing and acknowledging our strengths can help us to excel in life at different levels.
Most of us are a combination of many different intelligences. Normally with one or two that are
stronger than the others. Like many others you might be thinking intelligenceonly in reference to a
high IQ, and knowledge these other so called intelligences are too broad, but I believe you
couldn t be more incorrect. These are possible new ideas for you but consider the fact that we all
learn differently if we all had the same type of intelligence than we would all learn the exact same
way. As we know this clearly not true. After deep reflection and some research I believe my
strongest intelligence is Interpersonal intelligence. Strong interpersonal intelligence are people who
are good at understanding and interacting with others nonverbally and verbally. Usually more
talented in assessing the emotions and desires of those around them. My second strongest
intelligence is intrapersonal intelligences describe as one s ability to know and understand them

Book Study Update
Book Study Update The book that was chosen for my book study was Blythe s(1999), Akenfield:
Portrait of an English Village. I have chosen this book because of my many connections to
England. Several years ago, I was provided the opportunity to undertake graduate studies at
Westfield House, and attached House of Fitzwilliam College which is part of Cambridge
University. During my time in Cambridge, I was able to travel the country and visit many of
the places my ancestors called home. Having a cousin who still resides in Kettering, due North
of London, and parents who have just retired from living in Wales, I have a long appreciation for
the people and heritage of this small country. It is these appreciations that have lead me to my
choice of Blythe s (1999) book. After having ordered the book through Amazon, I finally received
my copy on Friday. I have been able to navigate through the introduction and first two chapters of
the book. Akenfield, is not the name of an actual village, but is rather a pen name given to this
East Anglian village as a means of protecting the identities of those involved in the study (Blythe,
1999). Blythe describes his book as quest for the voice of Akenfield, Suffolk through a talk that
covers half a century of farming slump and the beginning of what is being called the second
agricultural revolution (Blythe,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Rhetorical Strategies In Saint Joan, By George Bernard Shaw
Freedom of thinking, a different way of seeing things can be hard for some. In George Bernard
Shaw s Saint Joan, the Inquisitor gives a powerful speech, which demonizes Joan and her
heresy. The Inquisitor uses his speech to persuade the church of Joan of the arc s heresy. In his
entreaty, he uses many rhetorical strategies such as ethos, pathos, and logos. He even uses
similes and analogies to make his case. The Inquisitor keeps an intense and serious tone
throughout the speech, while the situation being a grave one. He makes the plea a dying matter
as if Joan killed someone. The Inquisitor begins his plea with a grave tone and starting the
rhetorical appeal of ethos to legitimize his view of the grave matter. In lines 1 5 he states If you
had seen what I have seen of heresy, you would not think it a light thing even in its most
apparently harmless and even lovable and pious origins. . Validating that he has dealt with
heresy in a great matter, the Inquisitor hasn t seen this only once though, he states again in line
16 I have seen this again and again . He gives the audience the appeal to ethos, the audience now
can believe what he is talking about because of his experience. He has now led the audience to
be able to trust him. Now the Inquisitor, in his prestigious position, begins to persuade the
audience with the horrors and legit wickedness of heresy. In lines 17 27 he gives a great deal of
pathos and some aggressive diction, he expresses Heresy ... ends

Jhumpa Lahiri is an Indian American author who likes to write mainly about the experiences of
other Indian Americans. She is a very successful author. She won the Pulitzer Prize for her first
novel and her fiction appears in The New Yorker often. One of those works from 1998 is a short
story, A Temporary Matter , about a husband and a wife, Shukumar and Shoba, whose electricity
will be temporarily cut off for one hour for five days. This seems simple enough, but as you read the
story you find that maybe it s their marriage that might be the temporary matter itself. The title is
interesting from the beginning. It gives us hints about the setting, the characters and their situation,
as well as plants the whole theme of the story. The... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
You immediately catch on that this is a big part in why they are having marital problems; they
are both extremely overwhelmed with grief. Shukumar is so overwhelmed that he seldom
leaves the house whereas Shoba is so overwhelmed but stays away from the house as much as
she can. The house reminds her of her loss. Shukumar even says that she treats the house as if it
s a hotel and that she began putting in extra hours at work . Shukumar and Shoba s grief have
led them to withdrawing from one another. Until the nightly power outages, they avoided each
other as much as possible. Shukumar even stays in the room he knows Shoba doesn t want
anywhere near because the baby s crib was once there. Symbolism can be seen in the power
outages. When the power is off, Shukumar and Shoba become intimate and share things with
one another. The darkness represents their safe place and the relationship they once shared
before the loss of their child. But as the title explains, this is only temporary . The power outages
will only happen over a period of five days and after that everything will go back to the way it
was. The loss of the baby symbolizes the turning point for their marriage. After the loss of their
child, things quickly began to change. We know this because Shukumar is constantly reminiscing
and going back to how his wife once looked or how she once cooked. A Temporary Matter ,

What Are The Approaches And Approaches In Language Teaching
Approaches and methods in language teaching
During this second unit we reviewed the most important approaches and methods in language
teaching used nowadays. These methods are based in theories that view the language and the
learning process differently, in consequence, they have different goals and uses depending what the
teacher wants to accomplish.
Many years ago, languages were taught taking into consideration only the structural forms that
integrate the language: grammar, vocabulary, isolated sounds and phrases, etc. and other important
characteristics were ignored. The audiolingual and Total Physical Response methods are examples
of these. Their principal characteristics are that they focused in pronunciation of the language, their
goal is help the learners to accomplish a native accent. These methods see the learning process as
something that must be taught ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It sees the language paying attention to explicit and measurable outcomes the learner is going to
accomplish. Usually describe behaviors and offers can do statements. It is very student centered,
because he is the one who is going to do certain activities.
This approach offers clears goals and objectives that once achieved can help the learners in real live
situations. Its difference is that is standardized.
A teacher using the competency based approach must be an analyst of the circumstances of the
learning process, be able to identify the students current level of knowledge, be able to
communicate the objectives of the class, provide corrective feedback when needed and offer the
class different activities according the learner needs and level of expertise.
The learner must become a self monitor of their own advances, strategic communicator, be able to
transfer the knowledge it possesses to real life situations and transform it to new situations and
finally be able to perform what he has

Guernica And Executions Of The Third Of May Essay
Compare and Contrast
Guernica and Executions of the Third of May, 1808
There are two events that were so emotional within Spanish history that we hear about them even
today. Not only do we hear about them, but we can see and relate the emotions through two very
popular artworks done by Spaniards who were directly affected by these events. Francisco de Goya
and Pablo Picasso used their artistic talents to record these events. There are many differences
within these two artworks. However, there are also many similarities, even though these artworks
were constructed in two different centuries. Francisco de Goya has painted an image to show a
time of tragedy. This painting is called Executions of the Third of May, 1808. Goya started painting

Utilizing his talent as an artist, Goya painted, an eight feet and nine inches by thirteen feet and
four inches canvas, using oil as his medium. The majority of the painting is in dark earth tones,
however, he used whites, yellows, and reds to highlight important features in the work. The
executions occurred during the invasion of Spain by Napoleon and his troops in 1808. This
particular event took a toll on Goya because he was a Spaniard himself. This is an image of
actual events that occurred on the hill of Principe Pio and the battle at Medina del Rio. Goya s
strategy was to use psychological forces to direct not only our eyes but also our sympathy to the
painting. He gains our sympathy by using the faces of the rebels as focal points in the painting.
He painted the soldiers and their rifles in a way to create direction that forces the viewers to
focus on the rebel with his hands flung out in a gesture of crucifixion. He also painted this rebel
with a bright white shirt and clean pants. The rebel s face shows grief and anguish, but his arms
are in the shape of a v which may represent amity. The faces of the other rebels show that

Live By Night Analysis
The magazine Women In Crime clearly fits into the crime fiction genre of the 1950s. It does this
through women being represented as sexually attractive and in power over men, because at the
time women being strong and deceitful was popular among Crime fiction writers. It shows the
sexual attraction through the low cut dress, showing lots of skin, the stocking and the dark hair. All
of these aspects of a womanat that particular time were seen as very attractive and desirable. The
cover shows the lady in power through a male hand showing her jewelry but she looks unimpressed
as if manipulating the man and acting angry to get what she wants. Women In Crime demonstrates

Live By Night fits into the Crime fiction genre through conventions such as the dull colors in the
cover, suggesting a dark and brutal story about violence and crime, also the dark sleuth taking up
the cover. The colors used in the cover consist of black and white being used as the background
and the detective and the red being used for text. These colors are generally the only three used
in crime fiction covers, as they support the dark and suspicious feel of the crime fiction stories.
The title of the book also fits into the colors used in the cover, as the book is called Live By

detective of modern day crime fiction stories. The audience can expect the detective to be a man
who goes out at night looking for clues and solving crime as he is in the dark in the cover and it
fits in with the title. Mis en scene has a mysterious and edgy feel to it, the cover looks like a
place where a crime could potentially take place. Live By Night fits into the conventions of the

Human Dive Response; Changes in Heart Rate While Resting...
The Changes of Heart Rate of Students during Human Dive Response when Resting and
Submerged Abstract The dive response is known more popularly as a mammalian dive reflex. It is
a survival mechanism built into mammal s bodies, essentially. Over the years, scientists have been
determined to find what triggers mammals to have a decreased heart rate when submerged under
water allowing them to stay under the water longer when they do not typically live under water. In
this experiment, we tested three different conditions in the dive response to see whether heart rate
decreased with each treatment. To characterize the dive response, we measured subjects heart rates

They had the same body posture but the only difference was not actually being submerged. The
first part of this experiment was used as a control for the second and third experiment done. The
second and third experiments had different treatments and were compared to the first experiment.
The purpose of our latter portion of the experiment was to t test the prediction that movement
when submerged and breathing while on land can cause the heart rate to decrease in the dive
response. Material and Methods Each student got a white tub and filled it up with tap water from
the sink. Students were paired with two or three other people and formed their groups. Each
group got 1 stopwatch, 1 thermometer, and also learned how to each other s pulse. The
temperature of the water used from the sink were adjusted beforehand to about 23В°C; room
temperature. Water temperature was not re adjusted to be hotter or colder. All tests were
conducted in the same posture; leaning over the lab table with elbows resting on the table and the
head down. Students worked in groups of three to four, and each one took turn being the
experimental subject, taking the pulse and handling the stopwatch. To measure the radial pulse
manually, the subject s palm was facing upward. The index and middle fingers were used to locate
the pulse between the radial bone, which is on the same side as the thumb, and with a slight
pressure, the pulse could be found.

Support Children’s Programs
America s national debt is estimated at over fourteen trillion dollars (TreasuryDirect.com). The
problem with the country s deficit is not news unheard of. Overcoming the problem has shown its
difficulties. Not much seems to alleviate the problem. As of this year the House of Representatives
proposed an estimated thirty two billion dollars in cuts to programs for children (Sanderson).
Although the country is severely in debt and cuts definitely need to be made, it is not right that the
children of America have to pay for the consequences. Why make children pay for something they
did not contribute to? The government needs to continue supporting and funding programs that
help children, such as A Keiki s Dream, because these programs... Show more content on

promoted, it should be rewarded with aid from the government, through funding and support.
Second, the environment a child is exposed to is critical. If exposed to a positive environment,
where their environment is loving, supportive and concerned, they would most likely approach a
program that they will help in times of need, therefore getting the needed help for the child. The
programs assist those that want to be helped and need to be helped. For that reason, they need the
funds to do the proper services needed to provide help. Third, after an interview with a child that
has been serviced through A Keiki s Dream, she said she was very thankful for a safe and
comfortable environment that allowed her to dream and had felt appreciative of her dream come
true. A safe environment is provided by the programs that are beneficial for children. On the other
hand, some charities and programs are happily shutting down. Because of the struggle and stress of
economic problems, funding had been greatly cut to these charities and programs, resulting in them

Would Anyone Engage In Smoking Cigarettes If Each Cigarette
Would anyone engage in smoking cigarettes if each cigarette had an effect written on the side, such
as lethal, or fatal? Advertisements pop up on the TV commercials, in newspapers, and magazines
that illustrate the reality of what happens when engaging in smoking tobacco, but yet people still

pretty graphic and shocking images to convince the population that tobacco is just awful for the

use to try and convince a smoker that it is not worth the risk. A person can use what they see in
this ad to push whomever they know to kick smoking to the side, and prevent major health
issues. The first element of persuasion we will explore in this ad is Pathos. Looking at the
laundry list of harmful effects in plain white blunt text, words like cancer, fatal, and disease

dangerous smoking is. The majority of the advertisement is black with white text, nothing fancy,

powerful way of causing death and harm, as are cigarettes. A loaded gun is dangerous, the smoker
is pulling the trigger on his own life with every drag they take from that cigarette. The reader feels
fear for the smoker and sees the danger that is associated with smoking. A person can really feel

God Through My Eyes Vast, all knowing, creator, so much more. How do you define your God?
The Father is so much more than human kind can grasp, therefor, being nearly impossible to fully
define without using opinion and imagination. The knowledge of God is the largest piece of shared
information among humans throughout time and space. I will explore my personal thoughts of
God, humanity and Jesus, as well as reflect on Christian worldview. Growing up, my parents
taught me the basic of Roman Catholicism because it was the right thing to do according to our
ancestors. We weren t religious, but rather lived by a good moral code and felt spiritual in our

Inherently, the focus of God is love and to respect His authority is to love Him. Learning to
worship God as Trinity involves more than just searching for creative techniques. We need to
know about the nature of our triune God if we are to worship him and enjoy him properly (Shaw
79). Often when I feel discouraged, the instinct is to blame God, the creator of everything.
Sometimes I get so wrapped up in my own selfishness, that I forget all the things God has done,
not just for me, but also for the world. His mercy is compassionate love for sinners who do not
deserve the redemption in Christ that he offers. His grace likewise speaks of his free favor
granted to sinners (Shaw 81). I am also reminded that God is transcendent. He surpasses time
and money, earth and space. God is so important, that metaphors are constantly referred to as
representing God: God is a rock, God is the light, God is the bread, God is a fortress, God is the
potter and we are the clay (GCU text). According to the text, creation and humanity are the work
of a triune God. Creation includes the entire activity of God. In creation all three persons are at
work simultaneously, including the Holy Spirit (Gen 1:2) and the Word (John 1:1) (Chapter 5). 3
Studies of Jesus primarily focus on the duality of Jesus and how he is able to be both human and
divine at once. This subject was disputed at the Council of Chalcedon in the year 451 between the

Taking a Look at Trickling Filters
Trickling filters are one of the oldest types of biological filters. They have a simple design in
which media is placed in a container that has a partially open bottom so water drains out [45]. The
biofilter container can be constructed of a variety of materials, including plastic, wood, glass,
metal, concrete, or any other nontoxic substance. The size of the biofilter directly determines the
carrying capacity of fish in the system. Larger biofilters have a great ammoniaassimilation capacity
and can support greater fish production [43].
From the fish tank water with high ammonia flows into the trickle filter. Since a water trickles are
down over the media, the large surface area and oxygen from the atmosphere allow nitrification
bacteria to oxidize ammonia to nitrite and nitrate. Afterwards, the water exits the trickle filter with
much reduced ammonia content (see Figure 11) [36].
Trickling filters are rugged and easy to operate. They have the ability to treat a wide variety of
nutrient levels (see Figure 11). One of the big advantages of a trickling filter is that the water can
leave with more oxygen than it entered. Because trickling filters have a large air water interface,
they also act as strippers to remove CO2, H2S, N2 or other undesirable volatile gasses. The other
advantages of trickle filter are low maintenance, self aerating, moderate capital cost and medium
head application. The only major drawback of trickling filters is the energy cost required to pump

Hustler Vs Falwell Case Study
I. Hustler v. Falwell II.485 U.S. 46 (1988)III. Facts: In Hustler v. Falwell a dispute arose when
Hustler Magazine, a a magazine that circulates nationwide featured a parody of an advertisement
for Campari Liqueur. The inside front cover of the magazine presented interviews with
celebrities who described their first time. One of the parodies belonged to Jerry Falwell, a
nationally acclaimed minister who was featured as describing his first time with his mother
when they were both intoxicated from drinking Campari Liqueur. While the interviews with the
celebrities contained a double sexual reference, it was evident in the end that the ads were
referring to the first time the celebrities had tried Campari Liqueur. However, after the magazine
was accessible to the public, Jerry Falwell sued Hustler Magazine and its publisher for libel,
invasion of privacy, and intentional infliction of emotional distress. At trial court the judge
dismissed the invasion of privacy claim and then sent the case to the jury where they ruled
Hustler Magazine on the claim of intentional infliction of emotional distress and awarded Jerry
Falwell $150,000. The case was then taken to the Supreme Court level on appeal by the petitioner,
Jerry Falwell. IV. Issues: (1) Does the First Amendment s freedom of speech prohibit public figures
from recovering damages for intentional infliction of emotional distress? V. Decision and Action:

  • 2. Tetrahydrocannabinol Essay Marijuana s active ingredient is tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) it contains a chemical compound called cannabinoids which are naturally found in the human anatomy. THC affects the central nervous system by binding to cannabinoid receptors that are present in the brain which triggers a euphoric response. The active ingredient in marijuana is quickly absorbed by the blood and has an immediate effect on the brain and other drugs. The drug comes from the hemp plant Cannabissativa and it s the seeds and leaves that are used and also the flowers are usually dried. (Above the Influence, 2015) THC resembles a neurotransmitter anandamide and mimics its actions. When THC binds to cannabinoid receptors it removes the refractory period in neurons. Refractory period is when excitable cells are not able to respond to stimuli as the cell needs to recover after firing an action potentials. The refractory period also ensures that the action potential are transmitted in one direction. When THC binds to cannabinoids receptors it prevents the refractory period from occurring which results in action potentials constantly being fired and this causes thoughts, thinking and imagination to amplify. Another effect that occurs is that an individual is unable to retain memories. (Intheknowzone.com, 2015) The behavioural changes that occurs when a person takes marijuana is that it impairs judgment and reasoning skills for example individuals that take marijuana on a regular basis and these individuals ... The end of world predictions have been reported by the thousands from multiple sources around the globe, and it may happen in 2017. The beginning of the end could be a massive storm expected to hit the coast of America. The end of world will happen in 2017, and governments are urging all ships to stay away from America Reports around the Kremlin issued by the Russian Ministry of Transportation warn of a large storm to hit America. They are advising all ships to stay clear of the Atlantic waters off the coast of the U.S. for at least the next 14 days. The storm hailed by experts as the storm of the century may be the catalyst for the end of world events. An alien invasion or meteor strikes upon the Earth have all been part of the 2017 ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This disturbance stretches from North America to the tip of South Africa. The storm may be produced by the abnormalities in the Van Allen radiation belt that drops 200 kilometers in altitude. However, the belt has now become unpredictable, and the Earth s magnetic field may be weakening as a result. How will this impact the world? Obama and other officials may be covering up the end of world data while they escape Could the end of world predictions of 2017 be the reason why NASA wants to colonize the moon and Mars? Is Obama already at the ISS, because he knows the truth? Between an alien invasion and apocalyptic meteor strikes, the end may be closer than we know. Independent researchers have said that we may only have 10 days left before the deadly storm makes an impact. Aliens may be the only hope for survival, since they are said to be humans from the ... • 4. Fluorescence Lab 8) As we know in UV spectroscopy the sample is between the source and the detector. So the light starts from the source and goes through the sample and ends in the detector. On the other hand in fluorescence spectroscopy the light is imparted at all angle as a result the detector misses a lot of light. This is a reason that fluorescence spectroscopy is more sensitive that UV spectroscopy. 9) As previously mentioned after absorbing energy an electron can jump from the ground state (lowest energy) to many excited states (higher energy). The UV spectroscopy uses the transitions from the ground state to the excited states, and gives results about the molecules. In this case we have a huge number of transitions, and we notice several absorption ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... But on the other hand the opposite process, the emission occurs over a long period of time. Thus fluorescence quenching is used to extend the lifetime of the excited level. Consequently we achieve to investigate molecular interactions and detect dynamic processes in biochemical and biophysical related problems, with the fluorescence spectroscopy. Moreover quenching leads to intermolecular deactivation. So the decrease of intensity is illustrated by Stern Volmer equation: Iof / I f = 1+kq * П„Ої * Q 14) Sometimes when we have a molecule it is necessary to identify the specific chemical groups and elements in this molecule. In a fluorescence excitation spectrum we usually notice one single fluorescence band. As we know specific elements, and chemical groups such as amino acids, absorbs in specific wavelengths. For instance the tryptophan absorbs maximum at 280nm. So if we notice this peak in a fluorescence spectrum immediately we know that our molecule contains that amino acid. Knowing where most elements and chemical groups absorb, we are able to identify our molecule. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 6. Online Shopping Vs Brick And Mortar Online Shopping vs Brick and Mortar Times are changing faster than ever. It seems like only yesterday that mail order catalogs, grocery stores, and shopping malls were the places to shop for items for our homes and our lives. As with all things, technology advances us to places we would have scoffed at in times past, and as technology advances, so do our shoppingtrends. Today, the high energy bustle of the malls of America is dwindling down to lonely, dilapidated store fronts with space for rent signs becoming more numerous as the surviving stores that reach out and gasp for air. What is responsible for the shrinking of brick and mortar retailers? It is the rise of online shoppingtrends. Of course, online shopping is not exactly... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The company eating that cost has the potential to further increase sales as the customer may spend more since the shipping is free. The last boost in discounts would be with taxes. Buying online, a customer doesn t have to pay taxes if there isn t a store location within the state (Chang 4) Brick and mortar stores may have the upper hand when it comes to discounts. Local sale ads can reveal money saving sales that can vary between time periods. Customers can plan shopping trips around the posted sales. In addition to sale ads, newspaper coupons can save a lot of money. Combining the two can save even more when customers take into account what the store sales are and then collect coupons for the items on sale to deepen discounts further (Keegan 6). Customer loyalty scan cards are another way that can save money in the store. Once signed up, loyalty cards can personalize future discounts or coupons based on past purchases on top of discounts included during the current purchase transaction (Buderi 4). These loyalty scan cards many times can be used in conjunction with other sales and added coupons. Another option for brick and mortar stores is price matching. To compete with online stores, brick and mortar stores can opt to equal a sale price advertised at another store. • 7. Essay on The Most Effective Absolute Rulers The Most Effective Absolute Rulers During the late 1400s and 1500s, many rulers took great measures to centralize political power and place it in their own hands. This lead to the occurrence of absolute monarchies, some of which I thought were overall very effective. In absolute monarchies, theoretically the monarchis all powerful, with no legal limitations to his or her authority. Absolutism in Europe was characteristically justified by the doctrine of divine right, according to which the monarch reigns all powerfully by the will of God. The intention of absolute monarchs is to utilize his or her power in an effective, better organized way, despite its weaknesses or negative consequences; and from my perspective, I would have to say... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He also increased the size of the army, gave soldiers better training and introduced new weapons to military. I personally think that the life of Louis XIV had its many ups and downs, but over all he was a very good man and effective ruler. If it were not for Louis XIV, France would be a very different place today. I m surprised he is responsible for many elegant buildings in France and especially Paris. Despite all the wrong things he did that hurt his nation, I think it could have probably gotten worse if he had not come along. Even today it interests me that Louis s armies, that were opposed by an alliance of the European powers, lost most of their major battles, but won control of Spain. For my part, Frederick the Great В– a great general as well as a skilled absolute monarch В– was one of the most effective absolute monarchs of his time. I think he was an effective absolute monarch because of his contribution to the small but militarily powerful German state of Prussia in becoming an absolute monarchy. The rise of Prussia between 1600s and 1700s occurred as a result of a combination of military, political, and social factors lead by Frederick s contribution. I chose Frederick II as a great effective absolute monarch based on his actions that affected his people. He did many great things for the significance of his absolute monarchy. Frederick II of Prussia made reforms and changes that were ideas of the Enlightenment. He wanted to further his country and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This is to be expected as services are typically more profitable than hardware sales which operate on leaner margins. Wells Fargo also outperforms Samsung significantly on return on sales with over 25X better performance. This again is attributable to better margins on services than hardware. Wells Fargo has a much stronger return on equity than Samsung with a Dupont ratio over 5X higher than Samsung s. Samsung has a stronger financial leverage ratio than Wells Fargo with almost 20% lower ratio for Samsung. Samsung also has a much lower total asset turnover than Wells Fargo. This is attributable to the quick turnover of assets in the manufacturing industry compared to the slow turnover of assets in the financial services sector. With Samsung being the only international company evaluated, there doesn t seem to be any significant impact of IASB over FASB standards for accounting. With the ratios used, the core components of the balance sheet and income statement were utilized. The key elements of revenue, expenses, assets and liabilities weren t significantly impacted by IASB over FASB standards. • 9. The Ethics Of Being Earnest Essay As I understood, The Importance of Being Earnest is on the ethics of the British high society, and it utilizes comedic drama to do so. For instance, the use of comedy taunts the measures to which the high society holds themselves. The gentry had faith in orchestrated relational unions, unions between families to contain the riches among the few. Moms searched out courteous fellows of that particular high society quality for their sensitive little girls. Woman Bracknell solicits a number from questions that she accepts are fundamental for a decent spouse for her little girl: what is his pay, how old is he, where does he live, what are his governmental issues. The most vital inquiry, in any case, is who is his family, on the grounds that the family name is what is imperative in an enduring marriageamong the high society. Wilde, be that as it may, spoofs the circumstance, as Jack does not have a family. The Effect Of Anti Microbial Products On Zone Of Inhibition The Effect of Anti Microbial Products on Zone of Inhibition Background Information: Bacteria, singular form bacterium, are microorganisms which belong to their own animal kingdom Kingdom Monera. All bacteria are alive and require to reproduce and eat. In the experiment, the bacteria used is called Staphylococcus aureus, which can cause a variety of diseases (e.g. meningitis, boils and abscesses, osteomyelitis, pneumonia etc.). Various strains of Staphylococcus aureus are resistant to some antibiotics and has become a health concern. As more and more antibiotics are used to treat bacterial infections/diseases, eventually there will be a point when the bacterium will grow immune to it. Thus, this makes Staphylococcus aureus serious as it almost completely immune to benzyl penicillin. Within the experimented there were three different anti microbial products that were investigated Bosisto s Eucalyptus Oil 200mL, Bleach and Coles Methylated Spirits. According to the bottle with the eucalyptus oil, it had claimed that it is 100% pure with pharmaceutical eucalyptus oil derived from Eucalyptus polybractera (Blue Mallee). This product can be applied on minor wounds, cold and flu symptoms, aches and pains, stains, clothing as well as cleaning but has no claims about what percentage of bacteria it kills but online sources claim it as one of the most effective methods of curing Staphylococcus aureus. • 11. Nothing Can Be Perceived and One Should Not Assent to... 1.There are two statement made by academicians which we decided to argue against to the best of your ability: (a) nothing can be perceived; (b) one should not assent to anything. Please critically assess the academicians assertion to the effect that nothing can be perceived and one should not assent to anything. пѓЁ Before answering the essay question, I would like to introduce Augustine and the new academy academicians (Plato s successors). Augustine is a philosopher and theologian that was born in 13 November 354 and his first language is Latin. He was famous with writings that influenced a lot of people and helped in developing the western Christianity and philosophy. However, in the east his teaching was not accepted at all. In addition, at age of 11, he started his educational path at madaurus and at the age of 17, he continued his education in a Carthage where he started his education in rhetoric. Furthermore, He was well recognized as Saint Augustine and was viewed as the father of western church. Augustin most recognizable work and still read and appreciated till now are city of god and confession. Augustine first vision into nature happened when he and his friends stole some fruits from the neighbor s garden. Finally, He died in 28 August 430, so he lived seventy five years old. Moving to some of the new academy history, Plato originated the academy in 387 BC in Athens and one of its unique students is Aristotle. Aristotle stayed and studied for about twenty ... Las Casas was formerly from the Spanish military, during which time he served in Cuba with direct contact to the Native Americans. Because of this influence on this life, and some of the people that he met while he worked there, he then dedicated himself to improving life for the native people. Later, in August of 1550, he engaged in a debate with Sepulveda which was called the Great Debate at Valladolid before the Council for the Indies. Meanwhile, Sepulveda was a Spanish philosopher, who never personally visited the New World but who still argued against the Native American rights during the Great Debate. • 13. Black Dwarf Research Paper Stars are born, grow old, and die, at rates that are related to their mass and any external pressures acting on them, similar to the life cycle of all living things in the universe. The process in which stars change dramatically throughout their existence is called stellar evolution and can take millions to billions of years. Stellar evolution describes how stars transform over time, from birth, through life, which includes growth, and ending in death. Fusion, the force that generates energy, is balanced by the pull of gravity, resulting in the progression and development of the star. Stars begin their life cycle as molecular clouds, or nebula. Some event, such as a shock wave or collision of a galaxy, causes the cloud to collapse and form smaller pieces, which contract inward and form a protostar. As the star... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Once the helium in the core is exhausted, the star emits its outer layers into space, contracts down, and emerges as a White Dwarf. Ultimately, the White Dwarf will lose all of its energy, collapse due to gravity, and enter a Black Dwarf stage. No Black Dwarfs have been observed in our universe because the time it takes for a White Dwarf to cool completely is likely to be trillions of years. A Black Dwarf is simply an explanation for what would result following the death of a White Dwarf. In larger stars, the core s temperature increases enough to burn carbon into neon. Burning and contraction are repeated until iron is established in the core. The pressure of neutrons will interrupt the collapse of the core, creating a neutron star. The sudden cease in the contraction of the core allows some of the mass to flow inward. The core becomes heavier and can t tolerate it s own gravitational force. This creates a shock wave blowing the outer layer of the star apart in a core collapse supernova eruption. This explosion results in the distribution of elements throughout the ... • 14. Eutrophication Essay Eutrophication comes from the Greek word eutrophos meaning well nourished. In other words, this natural process found in water occurs as a result of additional rich nutrients forming a flourish in plant production. At this moment in time, eutrophication is causing worldwide devastation to not only aquatic life, but the fishing industry. The release of nutrients into fresh water lakes, rivers and reservoirs leads to excessive growth of three different plant species: a) Open water algae (phytoplankton) b) Attached algae (periphyton) c) Higher plants (macrophytes) Above all, these organisms encourage the growth of algae, which absorb dissolved oxygen in the water essential for the survival of fish populations. Occasionally, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This is an example of phytoplankton as it is suspended freely on the surface of most rivers and lakes. Now, of course, the open water algae have optimum solar energy, a sufficient supply of water from below and carbon dioxide which is absorbed from either the water or sediments. Photosynthesis is more likely to happen and trigger the production of algal blooming [Fig 2] as oxygen will stimulate plant respiration. I believe that low dissolved oxygen (DO) is the most destructive effect of eutrophication, depriving aquatic life of food and natural habitats. Nevertheless high concentrations of DO may assist algae in their production, so adequate proportions are essential to ensure a constant environment. Other factors associated with this process include too much organic matter which is made up of carbon atoms and carbon carbon, C C bonds. This indirectly effects fish life as eggs and food sources are smothered. Algal chlorophyll in Mj #248;sa, Norway In the past 10 years, NIVA (Norwegian Institute for Water Research) have continued to measure the concentrations of chlorophyll in almost 350 Norwegian freshwater lakes. The results have been used to demonstrate the quantities of phytoplankton The graph indicates that between 1980 and 1985 there was a rapid increase in the mean proportions of chlorophyll in phytoplankton and other algae micro organisms. 1986 brought about nutrient Control programs which

Macklemore was driven to write this song because of the issue of equal marriage right and the use of gay as degrading word in society and in the hip hop industry. He wanted to set an example for others in the music industry, and help change the stereotypes of homosexuality. As Macklemore writes in his song a bunch of stereotypes all in my head this shows that society riddles our brains into thinking that it isn t alright to be gay, when really it is. These stereotypes make it hard for people to feel accepted about their sexuality. This song discusses how gay is used in an insultive way as quoted in the lyrics; If I was gay I would think hip hop hates me, Have you read the YouTube comments lately, Man that s gay Gets dropped on the daily, We ve become so numb to what we re sayin These examples show the connection of love, but in a different way to what we would usually expect. This song has a different view on the connection of love compared to other books with the theme of love, as it is about homosexuality rather than heterosexuality. In my opinion I think what Macklemore is trying to convey is very smart, and I believe that there should be equality on who you love. Originally published in 1597, William Shakespeare devised a renowned play about two star crossed lovers, Romeo and Juliet. Thus, after analyzing the dreams of schizophrenic patients, ancient symbolism, mythology, religion, biology, and evolution, one can come to the conclusion that each of these areas can, in fact, be proven to have a correlating relationship with the human psyche, adapting to its conditions yet never losing its mutual and uniting bond through time and ... The Electric Drive Revolution And Electric Cars Capstone Introduction Paragraph The electric drive revolution will become accepted and advance over time, just like computers and cell phones have over the last few days (anonymous). Electric cars have been around for many years. But they just started coming back around in the 21st century. Before anyone who had charging stations they would have to switch out their battery for their electric car whenever it ran out. The electric cars were created to basically compete with gas powered cars. They were also created to reduce the pollution created by gas cars. Countries all over the world have started to create more and more electric cars. In fact, in this exact moment Japan already has more charging stations than gas stations which could possibly mean that they already have more electric cars than gas cars. The first electric car was created in the early 1900 s by Thomas Edison. People are only starting to go back to electric cars because charging stations were invented. With charging stations in place now people won t have to rely on gas stations and gas powered cars, they will only rely on the more environment friendly charging stations and electric cars. Also with electric cars you have a lot more options to pick from when it comes to batteries to buy and charge. You can use lead acid batteries, zinc air batteries, and many more. Plus using electricity instead of gas is a lot cheaper. With time, gas powered cars will become extinct. Electric cars will continue to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The next revolution in car production took place not in the United States but in Japan. A change in management thinking occurred there when Ohno Taiichi, a Toyota production engineer, pioneered the development of lean manufacturing in the 1960s after touring the US plants of the Big Three car companies. The management philosophy behind lean manufacturing is to continuously п¬Ѓnd methods to improve the efп¬Ѓciency of the production process in order to reduce costs, increase quality, and reduce car assembly time. In lean manufacturing, workers work on a moving production line, but they are organized into small teams, each of which is responsible for a particular phase of car assembly, such as installing the car s transmission or electrical wiring system. Each team member is expected to learn all the tasks of all members of his or her team, and each work group is charged with the responsibility not only to assemble cars but also to continuously п¬Ѓnd ways to increase quality and reduce costs. For grades to stay up, it s important that teachers make sure their students do well in class especially on the tests. This may not seem like a problem, but it is. Students are incapable of learning to the best of their abilities because of teachers tendencies to focus specifically on testing. In my high school career so far, I have experienced many occasions in which this thought process has been apparent. For me, science labs have been the most prevalent for this method of teaching. Science has always been a class that I would receive good grades in, but looking back, it wasn t for the right reasons. My high grades in a class like Biology didn t come from insight on how the cell works and how all the organelles work together like a city; they came from weeks of drilling facts and information into my brain so I could regurgitate them onto a piece of paper that meant more to me only because it was called a test or quiz. I end up getting an A on the test which supposedly shows that my teacher did a good job teaching. It seems like a win win situation for both parties, but in reality, this way of teaching is problematic. The issue with teaching to the test is it impedes students from truly understanding the content. Instead of having students go deep into a topic and fully comprehending it from several angles, some teachers will choose a question and only consider one way to solve it. ... To support his claim, Mantsios (2006) states that most poor people in the United States identify first with their racial heritage, ethnic heritage, or geographic location. Members of the working class do not consider themselves part of a collective of workers, but rather as employees of a specific company. References to a middle class are, according to Mantsios (2006), usually done by politicians to pander to the broadest possible constituency, (p. 183). When relative wealth or poverty is addressed in the mainstream media, it is done so without reference to the structural issues that cause income disparity. Mantsios (2006) proceeds to outline several myths, including the overarching myth that America is a classless society (p. 183). The second of his four main myths related to class in America is that Despite some variations in economic status, most Americans have achieved relative affluence in what is widely recognized as a consumer society, (p. 184). Certainly, to a villager in Zimbabwe a poor American might seem to have relative affluence. Yet within the broader scheme of American society, it seems insulting to claim validity to this myth. Since the beginning of time, human s ability to understand reality is limited by their inability to prioritize, their stubbornness, and their skewed ethics. Humans often prioritize their own wants, desires, and beliefs making it difficult for them to find reality. Their natural desire is to be comfortable and to stick with what they know well. Electricity demands are in its peak in Yangon, it has become very difficult for operators to fulfill the demand in the present. The main objective of Unit Commitment is to determine a minimum cost turn on and turn off schedule of a set of electrical power generating units to meet a load demand while satisfying a set of operational constraints. The total production costs include fuel, startup, shutdown, and no load costs. There are many conventional and evolutionary programming methods used for solving the unit commitment problem. Dynamic programming method is one of the successful approaches to unit commitment problem. Dynamic Programming has many advantages over the enumeration scheme, the chief advantage being a reduction in the dimensionality of the problem. Microbes play an important role in the acquisition and transfer of nutrients in soil (Richardson, 2001). Therefore, the utilization of soil microbes to activate minerals and enhance nutrient uptake in plants has attracted increasing attention in sustainable agriculture (Fayez and Mahmoud, 2006). Phosphorus (P) is one of the major essential macronutrients for plants. In India, it is estimated that there are almost 260 million tons of phosphate rock deposits and this material should provide a cheap source of phosphate fertilizer for crop production (FAI 2002). Although in soil P is available abundantly its bioavailability in soil remains low due to the chemical transformations of P into insoluble forms (RodrГguez and Fraga 1999) and thus a major constraint to the plant growth and crop production (Chiquito Contreras et al., 2012). Bacteria with PS activity have been considered as one of the possible alternatives for mediating inorganic phosphate solubilization and increasing its availability to the plants (Rodriguez et al., 2006). Frederick Douglass Chapter 3 Analysis In the first chapter of the book Narrative of the life of Frederick Douglass, Frederick douglass gives us first hand stories about him being a young slave. Frederick was not allowed to go to his mother s burial and he did not know his own birthday as well both of which I find very crazy because everyone knows their birthday but for slaves that was a common occurrence, and to not be able to see your own mother s burial sounds awful. Douglass also witnessed the whipping of his aunt at a young age and he wrote about it in extreme detail, for any young child this must be scaring. The whipping was a punishmentfor Douglass s aunt because she went to see another slave from a different plantation, in my opinion this is a incredibly harsh punishment for trying to visit another slave. Douglass Says It was a most terrible spectacle. I wish I could commit to paper the feelings with which I beheld it (Douglass 4). Douglass says this when he is talking about his aunt getting whipped, he is saying that it was so bad to watch he could not even put his feeling into words. All of these events emphasize how bad it really was to be a slave and stripped of rights and to be treated like property. Unfair slave masters In chapter 3 douglass puts high emphasis on Colonel Lloyd and how he treated the slaves. Douglass talks about how there are so many slaves on his plantation many of the slaves don t even know what he looks like. Colonel Lloyd is very rich from his plantation and owns horses ... Rogues, Rascals, And Scoundrels Analysis In Rogues, Rascals, and Scoundrels, Daniel Williams claims that criminal literature in America has evolved over the last few centuries in three stages. The first stage took place in the seventeenth century, when executions were extremely popular and attended by thousands of Americans (Williams 6). Since executions were so popular, it was inevitable that the execution sermons would not be published (6). The first execution sermons were published as an attempt to make others fear God, as the narratives would include descriptions of how ashamed and remorseful the criminal was for their crimes (Williams 8). Williams described these rogues as outsiders, existing apart from the social structure either by choice or by fate (William 16). He also described these rogues as individualistic, opportunistic, self reliant as well as defiant of authority and entirely free (Williams 16). The idea is that if someone does something that is wrong and/or hurtful they should not get away with it. Instead they should have to suffer as they made others suffer. Mahatma Gandhi Since the start of the Industrial Revolution the United States of America has been dependent on burning fossil fuels for energy. In 2015 nearly sixty seven percent of energy generated in the United States was from fossil fuels including coal, natural gas, and petroleum. The United Stateshad been aware of a large abundance of natural gas in shalerock formations thousands of feet below the surface; however, when they first found these rocks around 1940 there was no technology or tools advanced enough to drill into these rocks, until the 1970s and 1980s. Companies worked endlessly finding a way to allow shale rocks to release the gas that they held. Companies eventually came up with a practice called hydraulic fracturing, also known as fracking; this process utilizes water pressure to fracture or break a rock in order to release and collect fuel such as gas or oil. In recent years, companies have mixed sand, chemicals and other proponents to retrieve the maximum amount of gas that each drilling site has to offer. A heated debate has begun concerning these mixtures and the money involved in fracking. While one side asserts that fracking should be banned because of potential environmental damage produced by the fracking mixtures, others claim that fracking should continue because of potential gains it could provide for the economy in the United States. We weren t religious, but rather lived by a good moral code and felt spiritual in our family. Church and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Inherently, the focus of God is love and to respect His authority is to love Him. Learning to worship God as Trinity involves more than just searching for creative techniques. We need to know about the nature of our triune God if we are to worship him and enjoy him properly (Shaw 79). Often when I feel discouraged, the instinct is to blame God, the creator of everything. Sometimes I get so wrapped up in my own selfishness, that I forget all the things God has done, not just for me, but also for the world. His mercy is compassionate love for sinners who do not deserve the redemption in Christ that he offers. His grace likewise speaks of his free favor granted to sinners (Shaw 81). I am also reminded that God is transcendent. He surpasses time and money, earth and space. God is so important, that metaphors are constantly referred to as representing God: God is a rock, God is the light, God is the bread, God is a fortress, God is the potter and we are the clay (GCU text). According to the text, creation and humanity are the work of a triune God. Creation includes the entire activity of God. In creation all three persons are at work simultaneously, including the Holy Spirit (Gen 1:2) and the Word (John 1:1) (Chapter 5). 3 Studies of Jesus primarily focus on the duality of Jesus and how he is able to be both human and divine at once. • 53. Taking a Look at Trickling Filters Trickling filters are one of the oldest types of biological filters. They have a simple design in which media is placed in a container that has a partially open bottom so water drains out [45]. The biofilter container can be constructed of a variety of materials, including plastic, wood, glass, metal, concrete, or any other nontoxic substance. The size of the biofilter directly determines the carrying capacity of fish in the system. Larger biofilters have a great ammoniaassimilation capacity and can support greater fish production [43]. From the fish tank water with high ammonia flows into the trickle filter. Since a water trickles are down over the media, the large surface area and oxygen from the atmosphere allow nitrification bacteria to oxidize ammonia to nitrite and nitrate. Afterwards, the water exits the trickle filter with much reduced ammonia content (see Figure 11) [36]. Trickling filters are rugged and easy to operate. They have the ability to treat a wide variety of nutrient levels (see Figure 11). One of the big advantages of a trickling filter is that the water can leave with more oxygen than it entered. Because trickling filters have a large air water interface, they also act as strippers to remove CO2, H2S, N2 or other undesirable volatile gasses. The other advantages of trickle filter are low maintenance, self aerating, moderate capital cost and medium head application. The only major drawback of trickling filters is the energy cost required to pump the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 54. Hustler Vs Falwell Case Study I. Hustler v. Falwell II.485 U.S. 46 (1988)III. Facts: In Hustler v. Falwell a dispute arose when Hustler Magazine, a a magazine that circulates nationwide featured a parody of an advertisement for Campari Liqueur. The inside front cover of the magazine presented interviews with celebrities who described their first time. One of the parodies belonged to Jerry Falwell, a nationally acclaimed minister who was featured as describing his first time with his mother when they were both intoxicated from drinking Campari Liqueur. While the interviews with the celebrities contained a double sexual reference, it was evident in the end that the ads were referring to the first time the celebrities had tried Campari Liqueur. However, after the magazine was accessible to the public, Jerry Falwell sued Hustler Magazine and its publisher for libel, invasion of privacy, and intentional infliction of emotional distress. At trial court the judge dismissed the invasion of privacy claim and then sent the case to the jury where they ruled Hustler Magazine on the claim of intentional infliction of emotional distress and awarded Jerry Falwell $150,000. The case was then taken to the Supreme Court level on appeal by the petitioner, Jerry Falwell. IV. Issues: (1) Does the First Amendment s freedom of speech prohibit public figures from recovering damages for intentional infliction of emotional distress? V. Decision and Action: (1) No. Reversed.
