Similarities Between Metropolis And Dystopiar Cities
MODULE : METROPOLIS AND NINETEEN EIGHTY FOUR ESSAY Dystopian societies illustrate
how historical contexts can influence the political and social values of the time, exploring the extent of
the potential for exploitation of power. Fritz Lang s German expressionist film, Metropolis (1927) and
George Orwell s satirical novel Nineteen Eighty Four (1949) dramatise the impact of oppressive
controlling forces upon the individual illustrating an abuse of power, emphasising the potential of its
exploitation of the populist. Lang reflects the anxieties of the Weimar Republic, under the
hyperinflation after World War I, highlighting the consequences of rapid industrialisation and the
subsequent disunity between the working and upper classes, whilst ... Show more content on

This expresses the reality of post World War I as the film s introductory sequence draws upon German
Expressionist elements presenting a low angle of towering skyscrapers in Bauhaus design and abstract
machinery. This artistic vivid and opulent setting contrasts with extreme close up of machines
suggesting the collective power of movement parallel to the workers, as they operate machinery
beneath the city in synchronicity. This disparity creates a defined hierarchical structure that juxtaposes
the heightened sense of power experienced by the ruling elite with the worker s sense of loss of
identity in the face of technological expansion. This extreme dichotomy exposes the innate fear of
abuse of power within a capitalist framework as audiences perceived the potential of conformity to a
totalitarian corporation, leading to dehumanisation of humanity. Further explored in the creation
scene, the political perspective reveals how the over development of technology for progress,
consequently results in abuse of power. This is developed as the machine man is displayed in a low
angle shot underneath upside down pentagram, the religious motif symbolic of how Rotwang proves
to be usurping the powers of god, emphasising that through the abuse of power, technology has the
ability to create a loss of identity leading to dehumanisation. Through the technological expansion
made apparent through Lang s dystopic world the potential of the exploitation of power is

When Is Resignation Not Enough—an Ethical Dilemma
When is Resignation not Enough An Ethical Dilemma
FACTS
The case When is Resignation not Enough details an ethical dilemma encountered by Page Nolan. She
left Smith, Jones, Brown (SJB) CPA firm in 1989, to go into private business. Anonymous Company
(AC) hired Page as a controller. Page s job requirements were to ensure accounting books of
interrelated business were correct, income and expenses were properly recorded and assigned, and
government requirements were met.

AC has not implemented a whistle blowing system or compliance hotline, in fact, an ethics or audit
committee does not exist. In general, the company does not have any fraud prevention program, code
of ethics, or a committee to oversee the management of the company.
Page Nolan took couple of steps to communicate the contradictions in the process; however, she was
unsure of her professional and ethical responsibilities after not receiving the appropriate response. The
following AICPA Rules of the Code of Professional Conduct apply to her ethical dilemma:
 Rule 102: Integrity and Objectivity
 Rule 202: Compliance with Standards
 Rule 203: Accounting Principles
 Rule 301: Confidential Client Information
Ms. Nolan must comply with rules in order to pursue or resolve the questionable tactics utilized by
Anonymous Company.

Costa Rica Comparison
Costa Rica is an absolutely beautiful country. It is full of tropical flowers, trees, fruits, and animals.
The waters are the bluest of blue and the landscape is the greenest that I have ever seen. There are also
beautiful volcanos and mountain ranges throughout Costa Rica. It was extremely fascinating to me
how different Costa Rica is compared to the United States not only in looks but also in culture and
history. Geography While in Costa Rica my team visited the cities of San Jose, Limon, Talamanca,
and Puerto Viejo. All of these cities lie on the southeastern side of Costa Rica next to the Caribbean
Sea. The differences in the beaches was extremely interesting to me. While we were in Talamanca, the
beach was fairly dirty but private. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Here in the United States our culture is fairly consistent. When one visits another state there may be
some differences in the way things are done, but definitely not drastic differences in culture. While my
team was in Costa Rica I felt as if I had visited three different countries. The cultures of San Jose,
Talamanca, and Puerto Viejo are completely different. When my team arrived in San Jose the first
thing that I noticed was the culture. It was completely different from the United States. The people
were extremely inviting and accepting. The city was not as loud as a city in the United States either.
There were no sirens or horns honking. In fact, most cars were off the road by about eight o clock in
the evening. According to Pedro, our guide and translator, most Costa Rican s go to sleep around nine
in the evening and start their day around five in the morning. Talamanca was extremely laid back. It
reminded me a lot of a Mennonite community. Most people in the village did not drive cars but instead
rode horses. Ninety percent of their food is home grown including fruits, vegetables, and butter. There
is a truck that comes through the village every morning with chicken and fresh eggs, but other than
that their meat is caught. The people of Talamanca look out for each other. It is extremely community
oriented, but also nature oriented. For example, while the team was walking on the beach we stopped

An Essay On A Special Day
Every birthday is supposed to be special and good right? Wrong. Definitely special, but not in a good
way. Do you ever have an experience that ruins something that you had cherished for so long? There
have been lots of times in my life that I have been confronted with situations that changed the way I
viewed myself and others, there is one distinct time that I remember abruptly changing my view, and
finally learning some very important messages. On the particular day that my eyes were opened, my
birthday, I had one of the most confusing, irritating, frustrating days of my life. A day I will remember
for as long as I live.
I woke up to breakfast in bed, a family tradition. On any special day in my family, the holiday
celebrity gets woken up to Happy Birthday of some rendition based on if it is mothers day, fathers day,
or really truly a birthday. These special days carry a chain of traditions, first with the song, second
with breakfast in bed, and third with a game of hot and cold while trying to find presents hidden all
over the house. When my mom had asked me earlier that week what I wanted for my birthday
breakfast I said the obvious, the breakfast that everyone in my family asks for, cinnamon rolls. So skip
ahead to the next morning when I had just woken up was presented with a plate of pancakes and
banana slices with strawberries arranged in a smiley face on my the pancakes. Oh. I guess maybe

Essay about Deaf Culture
Deaf Culture
I may not be considered part of the hearing culture due to my severe to profound hearing loss, but
some people might be surprised to hear that I am not considered a part of the Deaf culture. A majority
of the Deaf culture is very critical of those who assimilate with hearing people and accept hearing
culture as their majority culture. I believe that every hearing impaired and deaf person is an individual
and needs to do what is best for them instead of being worried about following the rules of the Deaf
culture.
The members of Deaf culture have many different levels of hearing that range from profoundly deaf to
slightly hard of hearing (Halpern). However, none of the members of the Deaf culture consider
themselves ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Deaf community is a community where they can feel like they actually belong and feel accepted.
Deaf culture tends to be critical of deaf people who embrace hearing culture. They consider these
people traitors. One of the reasons why the Deaf community looks down at someone who rejects their
Deaf identity is because they feel that the person is leaving behind a rich culture, not a disability
(Halpern). Deaf culture has a sign for hearing that is done in front of the mouth. When they want to
make an insult to deaf or hearing impaired people whom accept their own majority culture as the
hearing culture they make the same motion for hearing in front of the forehead instead of the mouth.
This is supposed to mean who ever they are talking about is hearing in the head (Halpern). This sign is
meant to be an insult to those people who associate with hearing culture.
It is easy to see why Deaf culture is so critical of those who assimilate with hearing culture because
the Deaf have had a history of struggle and discrimination. Hearing culture has been critical of what
Deaf people are able to do and have denied their existence. In the past American deaf people have
been denied the right to vote, to marry, and to raise children (Halpern). Deaf children often were
denied education, grew up illiterate, or grew up with no real language because at one point in time
sign language was not allowed (Halpern).

God s Greatest Evil The Heart s Desire There are two tragedies in life. One is not to get your heart s

The Effect Of Aerobic Capacity On University Students
How anaerobic capacity influences aerobic capacity in university students as determined by
differences in pulse rate before and after a step up test
Introduction
During physical activity, the body must produce energy for muscle contraction. There are two
different methods that the body can use (Åstrand 1956), which are dependent on the availability of
oxygen and the nature of the exercise (Yip 2010). Moderate intensity exercise uses aerobic respiration
while high intensity exercise uses anaerobic respiration (Yip 2010). Aerobic respiration requires
oxygen in order to provide energy; this method produces significantly more adenosine triphosphate
(ATP) compared to anaerobic respiration and thus allows for longer lasting moderate ... Show more

Research strongly suggests that aerobic fitness can be improved via intense anaerobic activities
(Bogdanis et al. 1995). Specifically, the VO2 max a person has can be improved by anaerobic exercise
(Swain 2007), and this in turn improves their aerobic fitness due to the nature of aerobic respiration
which uses oxygen. This report aims to explore if and how an individual s anaerobic fitness level
might influence their ability to carry out aerobic exercises, i.e. are people who are anaerobically fit
also aerobically fit? Thus, in considering relevant literature, the alternative hypothesis of this
experiment is that yes, if an individual is anaerobically fit, then they are also aerobically fit. The null
hypothesis is that there will be no correlation between an individual s anaerobic and aerobic fitness.
Participants were instructed to perform as many push ups as they could, then after resting, their pulse
rate was taken. Then they undertook a moderate step up exercise for 4 minutes and their pulse rate was
measured again. The maximum number of push ups was recorded and these values were compared
against the individuals change in pulse rate before and after the step up exercise. Statistical
significance was determined using a t test.
This research could contribute to helping individuals in improving their fitness levels, especially if one
is specifically looking to improve either aerobic or anaerobic fitness. It would

Artificial Intelligence Argument Essay
Artificial Intelligence is undoubtedly a hotly debated topic in today s society, with many concerned
that it will soon enslave humanity and others saying that it s harmless and only here to help us. Many
sci fi movies, such as the infamous 1984 film produced by James Cameron, The Terminator, portray
robots as becoming knowledgeable and taking over the world. Humanity creates an artificially
intelligent program known as Skynet, which becomes completely cognizant and overthrows the world
by initiating a nuclear holocaust. In the aftermath, a group of survivors creates a resistance that
attempts to destroy the program, however they are met with the challenge of defeating Skynet s
cyborg army. Skynet sends a terminator, played by Arnold ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Nick Bostrom, a philosopher and the University of Oxford, states that, ...superintelligence could
emerge, and while it could be great [...] it could also decide it doesn t need humans around (Ford).
This philosopher, like many other technology critics, can see the effects that artificial intelligence may
have on our future, however there is always the select group of people who cannot foresee the
consequences of their actions. For example, Victor Frankenstein was introduced to science at a young
age and when he went to college at Ingolstadt he met Professor Waldman shared a similar scientific
interest. Waldman proclaimed, If your wish is to become really a man of science [...] I should advise
you to apply to every branch of natural philosophy... much like how Waldman himself devotes his life
to all branches of science (Shelley 29). However, this sparked Victor s interested and caused him to
not immediately realize the ramifications of his attempts to bring the dead back to life, which lead to
the death of Victor s loved ones and the destruction of his world. The entire human race in The
Terminator closely resembles Victor Frankenstein considering that humans create the superintelligent
program, Skynet, which is supposed solely defend the nation s cyber network, however it ends up
taking over the world. This is extremely similar to Victor s situation, in which both he and humanity

gives us visual information that cant be shown to us in any other way. The purpose of the flashback is
to connect the past with the present to show give an insight of the characters to show whats going on

Symbols In Pyramus And Thisbe
During the seven years Shakespeare attended King Edward VI Grammar School, he read the infamous
Pyramus and Thisbe written by Ovid. Shakespeare later wrote the greatest and most well known,
relatable and timeless play of all time, Romeo and Juliet. The ill fated stories about the death marked
love between two love struck teenagers, are far too similar to ignore. Not to mention the beginnings
and endings are the exactly identical. Beneath the surface of these two works of literary art lies an
abundance of symbolism and memorable lessons. Of these many, there are three symbols of which are
the most prominent and significant to the overall theme of the two stories. The wall in Prymus and

Therefore, the series of unfortunate events encouraged the death of Romeo and Juliet, it did not define
their choices which were primarily responsible for their deaths. The lioness is a symbol of chance and
series of unfortunate events. In Romeo in Juliet , Romeo acts quickly and irrationally after learning of
Juliet s death, a prime example of his poor decision making in the face of strife. Shakespeare said,
Man: Then she is well, and nothing can be ill. Her body sleeps in Capel s monument, and her
immortal with angels lives. I saw her laid low in her kindred s vault. And presently took post to tell
you. O, pardon me for bringing these ill news, Since you did not leave it for my office, Sir. Romeo: Is
it e en so? Then I defy you, stars! Thou knows my lodging,. Get me ink and paper and hire post
horses. I will hence tonight. ( 6.2.17 26.) This shows how quickly Romeo made his decisions as well
as the other characters in the play. As he says I defy you stars he has already made up his mind that he
no longer wished to live. As does Juliet later on in the story and when Thisbe found Pyramus dead she
acted the same on the same irrational behavior. Pyramus makes the same mistake as Romeo, as Thisbe
followed suit to Juliet. Not to mention that they met alone, in the woods, as it was

Disadvantages Of Rail Industry
Choices in regards to transportation mode have significant effects on logistic companies, society, and
infrastructure providers. In most cases, transportation modes that are optimal for the society are
overlooked because of the specific interests of stakeholders. Decisions are made with quick
calculation without considering the underlying assumptions. A typical scenario of such decisions is the
trade off between road and railroad transportation of freights. Freight transportation has replaced rail
as number one form of transportation to moves from one point to the other. In the early 1900 s moving
goods by rail was the best way to transport products from a place like New York to Georgia. Today,
motor carriers have proven rail to be inefficient, slow, and less cost effective (Pazour, Meller Pohl,
2010). Though motor carriers are more cost effective, transportation by rail has a number of benefits
which are not limited to faster, greener, safer and more efficient way of transporting heavy loads.
History of Rail Industry
Railroads played a significant role in the development of the United States during the industrial
revolution. The Transcontinental Railroad was formed in 1869 when the tracks of the Union Pacific
Railroad and the Central Pacific Railroad joined. Railways linked cotton regions to the oceanic ports
(Posner, 2008). Most of the farms were located near railways hence facilitating the shipments of

pattern, with further repetition it emphasizes the pattern even more which increases the rhetorical
effect. Emphasis through repetition makes phrases more memorable, and, by extension, make King s
story more memorable. Another thing King did was to repeat the key theme, King s most frequent
word he used was freedom which was said twenty times. This would make sense because freedom is
the primary theme of the speech. Through out King s speech he says we thirty times so the people

Customer perception on CRM. Customer relationship management (CRM) is a combination of people,
processes and technology that seeks to understand a company s customers, so customer satisfaction is
a key measure of the success of CRM. A research studied the impact of Customer Relationship
Management (CRM) practices on customer s satisfaction, analyzed variables such as reliability,
responsiveness, assurance, empathy and customer relations, and found the perception of customer s
regarding CRM is based on a multifaceted set of variables, and it represents value judgments about
outcome, impacts, and results of what organizations do or offers (Al Dalayeen, 2017).
Ethical and social considerations. A research shows that continual innovation in shopper facing

How Does Involvement Can Make Products Differentiate From...
Part 1 Involvement
Involvement has for the last decades been an important topic within marketing, and especially when
discussing consumer behaviour. This essay aims to explain different types of involvement, using real
life examples to illustrate the concepts. Competitors will always be competitors, so this essay will also
highlight how involvement can make products differentiate from them. Lastly, a few other theories
relevant to involvement are lightly discussed.
Relating involvement with motivation
Involvement and motivations go hand in hand when it comes to purchasing decisions. It may by low
involvement, and it may be high. The same goes for the level of motivation. Elements that acts as a
bridge between the two are emotion and knowledge. When emotions arise, emotional states are
activated. To reduce or prevent unpleasant emotions, marketers use emotion reduction. One theory that
talks about motives (the reason behind motivation to purchase) is the McGuire s physical motives
model. It talks about consumers need for consistency, the need to determine who/what causes things,
the need to categorize information and the need for observable cues or symbols (Quester et al 2014).
The message in the advertising has a lot to say on whether the consumer is motivated or not to
purchase. The individual s interest in the ad topic decides the level of involvement and motivation of
buying it because more attention is given. Sports fans are more likely to read or pay attention to ads

Considering the water quality, the total wastewater discharged into the reservoir reach amounts to 1.2
billion tons annually (Wang, 2002). TGP does not generate pollution itself but it will aggravate the
pollution belts, because of higher water level and slower velocity. The Chinese government decided
that all the industrial pollutants must be treated to reach the (official) discharge standards by 2000. A
number of small enterprises that discharge heavy pollution, such as paper mills, have already closed
down, and the central government will invest a large sum to build a series of large wastewater

several analysis methods, we focus on the Cost Benefit Analysis (CBA) methods to evaluate the
affects of the TGD on the environmental and ecological system.
Although people benefit from the TGD a lot, the negative impacts of the TGD also cannot be ignored

Bessie Vanburen Research Paper
Strolling through the woods one day with my husband we stumbled across a head stone for the late
Mrs. Bessie Vanburen, age 19, beloved wife and mother, died July 11th 1835. Our minds started to
wonder back to a time long passed and the days before Mrs. Bessie was placed here. Mrs. Bessie
Vanburen was born in July 1816 to Mary and David Windburn. She grew up in the small town of
Mcbee, South Carolina, where Bessie s father was a poor dirt farmer, and her mother an underpaid
seamstress. Bessie attended school in her small town, and as she approached her sixteenth birthday, a
new teacher came to town. James Vanburen was a young attractive man. The two soon became smitten
with each other. A few months went by James decided to ask Bessie for a date. Their relationship was
meant to be. After six months James asked David for Bessie s hand in marriage, in 1833 at the age of
17 Bessie became Mrs. Bessie Vanburen. Bessie and James moved around a lot, because he was a
school teacher. The two lived in Camden South Carolina for a few short months. Here the young
couple learned Bessie was pregnant and both were very happy, but Bessie wanted to be closer to her
parents. Mary her mother would be such a help after the birth of the baby. James got his teaching job

May 20, 2015
The Golden Age of Sports The 1920s was a great decade for the economy because of the popularity in
sports. The number of fans increased, which created the need for new stadiums and raised the salary
for sports stars. Sports in the 1920s went through many changes in the time period known as the
Roaring Twenties. New heroes, new teams, and new leagues were emerging in sports. Some sports
were just starting, some were broadening their horizons, while others were just becoming more
popular. The media helped to make sports become more popular in the 1920s. Movie houses showed
videos of sports contests, which helped create stars. Newspapers and magazines gave the sports
reporter a new authority as the media brought information about athletes and athletics to large
audiences. Radio broadcasts of college football and professional baseball began early in the 1920s.
The media supplied news but also manufactured it and, in the process, created and satisfied an eager
audience. The decade was the Golden Age of Sports . The 1920s were a starting foundation for
football. The most popular league, the NFL, was formed in the 1920s. On August 20, 1920, the owner
of four Ohio league teams met to form a new professional league. On September 17, the team met
again, changing its name to APFA (American Professional Football Association). By 1923, the name
was changed to the National Football League (NFL). The 20 s brought in new styles of plays, such

The Theme Of Light Vs Dark In Romeo And Juliet
Love plays a crucial part in people s lives. Not only is it the foundation of one s well being, but it also
affects those included in that circle. With this in mind, love can overpower negativity and conflicts.
However, if one is not able to persuade the importance of their devotion, they can become consumed
by darkness. In Shakespeare s Romeo and Juliet, the author incorporates the motif of light vs. dark to
convey the theme that an individual s love surmounts any feelings of hatred. Romeo depicts Juliet as
light in order to portray how she enables him to sense hope and contentment. For instance, upon
noticing her for the first time at the Capulet ball, Romeo describes, O, she doth teach the torches to

dark to stress how, in many situations, love can triumph hate. Essentially, Romeo maintains a positive
outlook in distressing conditions by virtue of Juliet, who provides him with this light.
Correspondingly, Juliet displays her affection and loyalty for Romeo, despite the hostility between
their families. All in all, the lovers express the significance of their emotions and together resolve the
conflicts between the Montagues and Capulets. To understand the contradiction of light and darkness
is essential to an individual s welfare, because it highlights how important possessing love is for

Why Do Children Be Allowed To Play Violent Video Games
Many times, I have walked into a room watching children play video games, but not just any video
game, but specifically violent video games. In which they feature endless shooting, blood and gore
splattering the screens, drugs, sexual violence towards women, criminal behavior, and obscene
language. According to the Education Week Magazine, Two thirds of all households in the US have at
least one video gamer, and 97% of kids ages 2 17 are already playing video games, with an average of
over 11 hours a week. Some of the most popular violent video games today include, Grand Theft Auto
and Call of Duty. Children who frequently play violent video games are more likely to become passive
aggressive and view violence as a solution to problems; therefore, young children should not be
allowed to play violent video games.
In our society today, video games are designed so well and made so realistically. The creators make
them feel, sound, and look like a real life situation. For example Grand Theft Auto, is designed to give
you the freedom to do illegal activities in a city without consequences and the worst part is you get
rewarded for this unacceptable behavior. Forbes Magazine explains Grand Theft Auto, We can drive
through stop lights, mow over civilians, crash and die and start over, get in ridiculous gunfights and
still walk away on two feet. Or even just go shopping, or play golf, or hunt. We are given a vast
canvas of possibilities, and the freedom to pretend to break bad in

A Brief Look at Operational Amplifiers
Operational amplifiers (Op Amp) have been in use for quite a long a long time now in the field of
electronics and electrical engineering. A basic Op Amp has got three connections consisting of 1
output and 2 inputs. For definition purposes the two input terminals are called inverting and non
inverting inputs (Huijsing, 2011). Huijsing (2011) adds that it has been found and proven that when
the voltage at both points of the inputs is the same, there will be no output on the other side. The
image below shows an ideal Op Amp with the terminals shown. FIGURE 1 For an ideal Op Amp the
input impedance is infinite for the load and 0 for the source output so this means it can be used as a
buffer and an ideal source of voltage and current (Storr, 2014).Carter and Mancini (2009) noted in
their book that feedback is always necessary in this amplifier so as to reduce the gain because they
have an infinite gain (around a million) when the loop is open but this gain is dependent on the
amount of input voltage, so if we apply 0.000001V input the output will be 1V. Application of the Op
Amp in circuits is diverse but in this report two circuits will be covered namely the integrator and
differential circuit. INTEGRATOR CIRCUITS FROM OP AMP A basic mathematical definition of
integration is the main tool used to define this type of amp circuit. In other terms the input signal is
integrated so that the outcome is the output signal. This circuit is

Censorship In Young Adult Literature
While reading the assigned chapters of the textbook I found many points interesting and informative.
The first portion that caught my attention involved how to incorporate both young adult literature and
the classics into a curriculum. A very interesting metaphor was used to describe why adolescents
shouldn t read the classics. I was really able to relate to the idea of how well written young adult
literature can encourage students to read and can possibly lead to reading the classics. I think that it is
a great idea to pair a young adult book with a classic in order to engage reading as well as help address
certain points of the classic. This idea plays well with how to encourage reluctant readers to want to
read, which is the next point I will discuss. A reluctant reader is something that most teachers will
have to deal with at some point in their career. It can be very difficult for some students to get into the
habit of reading for pleasure, it is also common for avid readers to be in a stage where they just do not
want to read. This is a situation that I can relate to very strongly seeing as I love to read but sometimes
find myself in a reading slump, where I struggle to motivate myself ... Show more content on

librarians or teachers, find certain ideas and information dangerous or objectionable to readers. People
examine books, films, dramas, and television to determine and suppress information they find
offensive. These ideas are practiced by teachers and librarians when finding books for adolescents to
read. Books that involve offensive language, violence, sexism, or substance abuse are often not
considered to be appropriate for young adults, therefore they are not included in many

Explain The Four Criteria Of Dissimilarity
Question #2 List and describe the four criteria of authenticity according to the textbook.
The historical Jesus Research according to the textbook shows four criteria of Authenticity and they
are the following listed below: (Page 152)
The Criterion of Multiple Attestation: This criterion simply states that the material about Jesus is
probably independent ancient sources.
The Criterion of Palestinian Environment: In this criterion a section of material in the Gospels is
probably authentic if it appears to be fairly literal translation Semitic (Hebrew or Aramaic) idiom into
Greek.
The Criterion of Dissimilarity: This talks about the Material in the Gospel is authentic if the sayings or
deeds of Jesus recorded in the account are dissimilar to those expected from the Judaism of His day or
from the practices and theology of the early church.
The Criterion of Coherence: In this we find the material is likely early and authentic if it is consistent
with material judged to be authentic based on other criteria.
How are these criteria used in studies of the Gospel?
Because the study of the Gospel during much of the twentieth century was dominated by an approach
called criticism, Andrea J. Kostenberger ET all said, what is more, these criteria of authenticity
establish the historical reliability of the Gospels accounts of Jesus supernatural activity including
exorcisms, miracles, and His resurrection. Thus these criteria demand a fresh appraisal of the

Nursing Assessment Of Respiratory System
CONCEPT 5: NURSING ASSESSMENT OF RESPIRATORY SYSTEM
This concept is taken from Block 4, Module 6 which is entitled as Assessment of respiratory system .
The respiratory system comprises of different organs used in respiration. Respiration involves
inhalation and exchange of oxygen and carbondioxide between living organisms and the environment.
The organs of respiration include; the nose, pharynx, larynx, trachea, 2 bronchi, bronchioles, 2 lungs
and muscles of breathing (the intercostal muscles and the diaphragm).
5.1 Personal context
Respiratory system assessment is the process of evaluating the functioning and condition of a patient s
respiratory system. During assessment of the respiratory system, the nurse takes the patient s history
and perform a physical examination on the patient. The nurse takes the patients data which include
personal history, family history, history of current and past respiratory problem, allergy history or
reactions to certain drugs, foods, allergens etc., and occupational history. The nurse also objective data
of the patient, these data will help her to know the respiratory condition of the patient and factors that
predisposes the patient to respiratory problems. The nurse also conducts a physical examination which
include inspection, palpation, percussion and auscultation. Findings from the physical examination
will help her in making diagnosis and to plan adequate nursing care.

Overcrowding and Housing in Nineteenth-Century London...
Overcrowding and Housing in Nineteenth Century London
From 1801 to 1851, the population of London grew from under 1 million inhabitants to 2.25 million.
This was due in large part to immigration, both from other countries and from the countryside of
England. Hundreds of thousands of people were moving to the newly industrialized cities and towns
to find work, having been squeezed off the land because of the enclosure of farms. There was also
displacement of the working class within the city of London because of a number of construction
projects. There were street improvement schemes in which tenements were razed in order to widen the
passages. The transformation of part of the city into a non residential district devoted to finance ...

One of every three inhabitants of flats of 4 or less rooms, irrespective of class, were overcrowded. In
1866, the Sanitary Act defined overcrowding as less than 400 cubic feet for each adult living in a room
day and night, or 300 cubic feet for a sleeping room. For children, these dimensions were halved. This
means that a man, woman, and one child living in a room 8 x10 x10 would be considered
overcrowded. For statistical and census purposes, the London City Council ignored cubic capacity,
and counted anything beyond two people per room as overcrowded. Hector Gavin, a lecturer in
forensic medicine at Charing Cross Hospital estimated that if all the windows and doors of a typical
laborers tenement were shut(against the cold, for example), the maximum length a man could survive
before all available oxygen was consumed was seven hours. The Window Tax of 1695, which taxed
any opening in a building s exterior walls, was finally repealed by the first Public Health Act of 1848.
As the problem of overcrowding became more and more evident, several remedies were tried. There
was some individual philanthropy, model dwellings were built by philanthropic capitalists, legislation
was passed prohibiting overcrowding, slums were torn down(which, of course, only worsened the
problem by displacing more people), there was suburban speculative development closely following
the development of the railroad which provided cheap, rapid transit to the newly forming

What Are The Disadvantages Of Homeschooling
Does homeschooling deprive kids of a normal social life? How can children learn to interact with
other people if they stay at home all the time doing school? Many people question whether
homeschooling adequately equips kids with skills necessary for life in society. Ms. Liza Blau, founder
of NYC Asthma Wellness Center, considers homeschooling a social disadvantage. In her article Social
Disadvantages of Home Schooling, she expresses her belief that homeschooled children lack the
opportunities to acquire the social skills that other kids hone at public school. However, despite the

The Pros And Cons Of Artificive Robots
In discussions of Artificial Intelligent (AI), one controversial issue that people have brought up in
regards to humanoid Artificial intelligent robots is the fear that they will be created to be so intelligent
that they are able to make decision on their own and do whatever they want to do. Current AI is
limited to performing narrow tasks, but the long term goal is to create AI that would outperform
humans at almost every cognitive task. On the one hand, people like Honda argues humanoid
household robots with the function of AI can be very helpful in today s society. By improving the care
given to disabled, sick or elderly people from help around the house to health care. On the other hand,
people like the co founder of Tesla, Elon Musk wants to stop the A.I apocalypse, and people like him
are afraid that advanced AI is around the corner and will have a greater intelligence than humans.
Many people maintain they don t care about AI and what it can or cannot do, while others are clueless
to what AI even stands for. My own view on AI robots is that they can be a great step in helping
people in many ways. It will revolutionize healthcare and be able to assist in emergency response
systems. Although this technology is not around yet, they are close to completing a fully working
humanoid AI in a few short years. Artificial intelligence basically boils down to a mechanical program
that can learn both language and emotion and make decisions based on them. Merriam Webster
dictionary defines Artificial intelligence as, a computer that deals with intelligent behavior and the
capability of a machine to imitate human behavior. The Encyclopedia Britannica says a system
endowed with the intellectual process characteristic of humans, such as the ability to reason, discover
meaning, generalize, or learn from past experience . When looking at the definitions it helps give an
idea of what AI is about and what to expect when talking about humanoid AI. They are man made life
forms that can be programed to do most anything what a human can do. The helpful humanoid
household robot from Honda called Advanced Step Innovated Mobility (ASIMO) is the closest thing
to an artificial intelligent life form today. He can hold

Overview of Barbara Dossey s Nursing Theory
Nursing Theory: Barbara Dossey
Context of the development of the theory Barbara Dossey is truly a visionary in the holistic nursing
movement and her theory is able to further the development of holistic nursing in its entirety as well
as bolster patient outcomes. The context in which the theory was developed was in relation and
connection to the products and ideas of Ken Wilbur, in an attempt to fortify the fundamental concept
of healing (Dossey Keegan, 2003). Dossey s four quadrant model in certain respects is a reaction to
and influenced by the work of Wilbur, namely that his volumes stress that no particular or sole
researcher, philosopher or theorist can describe, establish or clarify the constituents of reality (Dossey
Keegan, 2003). Dossey and Keegan emphasize that the obstacle and objectives in nursing is to bolster
one s integral awareness while boosting one s overall strengths and abilities in nursing in general
(2003). Ultimately, the theory developed in the context of the belief that healing occurs when the
delicate balance and harmony of body and mind and spirit is successfully addressed and how ancient
ideas can be effectively integrated in the realm of caring for patient in everyday living
(Dosseydossey.com).
Nursing Conceptualized in the Theory This theory recognizes how the meta paradigm of nurse,
individual, health/wellbeing, surrounding environment (also known as society) have to be
acknowledged (Dossey Keegan, 2013). The nurse plays a strong

Point Of View In The Man From Mars By Margaret Atwood
Authors use point of view to send a message. Using different forms of point of view sends different
messages to the reader. By using point of view effectively, authors can invoke different feelings,
emotions, and thoughts in a reader. In The Man from Mars, Margaret Atwood uses the third person
limited point of view to create the feeling of ambiguity seen throughout the short story. This point of
view allows the reader to feel the same sense of mystery, danger, and fear that the main protagonist,
Christine, feels towards the strange man stalking her. Because of the point of view, the story has this
impact. If told from the 1st, 2nd, or 3rd person omniscient point of view, the story would be vastly
different. By using the 3rd person limited point of view in The Man from Mars, Margaret Atwood
allows the reader to feel same sense of mystery that the main character feels while also getting in
touch with Christine s inner thoughts.
In the 1st person point of view the reader sees the story unfold from the perspective of the narrator.
Many novels use this convention such as classics like Catcher in the Rye and Treasure Island. This
point of view allows the reader to sympathize with the narrator/main character and place themselves in
the lives of these characters. Because of this, however, 1st person narration is limited and biased. The
narrator can only know what is taking place around them and even then, the narrator can be
considered unreliable due to being able to change certain

  • 3. Similarities Between Metropolis And Dystopiar Cities MODULE : METROPOLIS AND NINETEEN EIGHTY FOUR ESSAY Dystopian societies illustrate how historical contexts can influence the political and social values of the time, exploring the extent of the potential for exploitation of power. Fritz Lang s German expressionist film, Metropolis (1927) and George Orwell s satirical novel Nineteen Eighty Four (1949) dramatise the impact of oppressive controlling forces upon the individual illustrating an abuse of power, emphasising the potential of its exploitation of the populist. Lang reflects the anxieties of the Weimar Republic, under the hyperinflation after World War I, highlighting the consequences of rapid industrialisation and the subsequent disunity between the working and upper classes, whilst ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This expresses the reality of post World War I as the film s introductory sequence draws upon German Expressionist elements presenting a low angle of towering skyscrapers in Bauhaus design and abstract machinery. This artistic vivid and opulent setting contrasts with extreme close up of machines suggesting the collective power of movement parallel to the workers, as they operate machinery beneath the city in synchronicity. This disparity creates a defined hierarchical structure that juxtaposes the heightened sense of power experienced by the ruling elite with the worker s sense of loss of identity in the face of technological expansion. This extreme dichotomy exposes the innate fear of abuse of power within a capitalist framework as audiences perceived the potential of conformity to a totalitarian corporation, leading to dehumanisation of humanity. Further explored in the creation scene, the political perspective reveals how the over development of technology for progress, consequently results in abuse of power. This is developed as the machine man is displayed in a low angle shot underneath upside down pentagram, the religious motif symbolic of how Rotwang proves to be usurping the powers of god, emphasising that through the abuse of power, technology has the ability to create a loss of identity leading to dehumanisation. Through the technological expansion made apparent through Lang s dystopic world the potential of the exploitation of power is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 6. Costa Rica Comparison Costa Rica is an absolutely beautiful country. It is full of tropical flowers, trees, fruits, and animals. The waters are the bluest of blue and the landscape is the greenest that I have ever seen. There are also beautiful volcanos and mountain ranges throughout Costa Rica. It was extremely fascinating to me how different Costa Rica is compared to the United States not only in looks but also in culture and history. Geography While in Costa Rica my team visited the cities of San Jose, Limon, Talamanca, and Puerto Viejo. All of these cities lie on the southeastern side of Costa Rica next to the Caribbean Sea. Here in the United States our culture is fairly consistent. When one visits another state there may be some differences in the way things are done, but definitely not drastic differences in culture. While my team was in Costa Rica I felt as if I had visited three different countries. The cultures of San Jose, Talamanca, and Puerto Viejo are completely different. When my team arrived in San Jose the first thing that I noticed was the culture. It was completely different from the United States. The people were extremely inviting and accepting. The city was not as loud as a city in the United States either. There were no sirens or horns honking. In fact, most cars were off the road by about eight o clock in the evening. According to Pedro, our guide and translator, most Costa Rican s go to sleep around nine in the evening and start their day around five in the morning. Talamanca was extremely laid back. It reminded me a lot of a Mennonite community. Most people in the village did not drive cars but instead rode horses. Ninety percent of their food is home grown including fruits, vegetables, and butter. There is a truck that comes through the village every morning with chicken and fresh eggs, but other than that their meat is caught. The people of Talamanca look out for each other. It is extremely community oriented, but also nature oriented. For example, while the team was walking on the beach we stopped ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. An Essay On A Special Day Every birthday is supposed to be special and good right? Wrong. Definitely special, but not in a good way. Do you ever have an experience that ruins something that you had cherished for so long? There have been lots of times in my life that I have been confronted with situations that changed the way I viewed myself and others, there is one distinct time that I remember abruptly changing my view, and finally learning some very important messages. On the particular day that my eyes were opened, my birthday, I had one of the most confusing, irritating, frustrating days of my life. A day I will remember for as long as I live. I woke up to breakfast in bed, a family tradition. On any special day in my family, the holiday celebrity gets woken up to Happy Birthday of some rendition based on if it is mothers day, fathers day, or really truly a birthday. These special days carry a chain of traditions, first with the song, second with breakfast in bed, and third with a game of hot and cold while trying to find presents hidden all over the house. When my mom had asked me earlier that week what I wanted for my birthday breakfast I said the obvious, the breakfast that everyone in my family asks for, cinnamon rolls. So skip ahead to the next morning when I had just woken up was presented with a plate of pancakes and banana slices with strawberries arranged in a smiley face on my the pancakes. Oh. I believe that every hearing impaired and deaf person is an individual and needs to do what is best for them instead of being worried about following the rules of the Deaf culture. One of the reasons why the Deaf community looks down at someone who rejects their Deaf identity is because they feel that the person is leaving behind a rich culture, not a disability (Halpern). Deaf culture has a sign for hearing that is done in front of the mouth. When they want to make an insult to deaf or hearing impaired people whom accept their own majority culture as the hearing culture they make the same motion for hearing in front of the forehead instead of the mouth. This is supposed to mean who ever they are talking about is hearing in the head (Halpern). This sign is meant to be an insult to those people who associate with hearing culture. It is easy to see why Deaf culture is so critical of those who assimilate with hearing culture because the Deaf have had a history of struggle and discrimination. Hearing culture has been critical of what Deaf people are able to do and have denied their existence. In the past American deaf people have been denied the right to vote, to marry, and to raise children (Halpern). Deaf children often were denied education, grew up illiterate, or grew up with no real language because at one point in time sign language was not allowed (Halpern). ... • 11. The Effect Of Aerobic Capacity On University Students How anaerobic capacity influences aerobic capacity in university students as determined by differences in pulse rate before and after a step up test Introduction During physical activity, the body must produce energy for muscle contraction. There are two different methods that the body can use (Åstrand 1956), which are dependent on the availability of oxygen and the nature of the exercise (Yip 2010). Moderate intensity exercise uses aerobic respiration while high intensity exercise uses anaerobic respiration (Yip 2010). Aerobic respiration requires oxygen in order to provide energy; this method produces significantly more adenosine triphosphate (ATP) compared to anaerobic respiration and thus allows for longer lasting moderate ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Research strongly suggests that aerobic fitness can be improved via intense anaerobic activities (Bogdanis et al. 1995). Specifically, the VO2 max a person has can be improved by anaerobic exercise (Swain 2007), and this in turn improves their aerobic fitness due to the nature of aerobic respiration which uses oxygen. This report aims to explore if and how an individual s anaerobic fitness level might influence their ability to carry out aerobic exercises, i.e. are people who are anaerobically fit also aerobically fit? Thus, in considering relevant literature, the alternative hypothesis of this experiment is that yes, if an individual is anaerobically fit, then they are also aerobically fit. The null hypothesis is that there will be no correlation between an individual s anaerobic and aerobic fitness. Participants were instructed to perform as many push ups as they could, then after resting, their pulse rate was taken. Then they undertook a moderate step up exercise for 4 minutes and their pulse rate was measured again. The maximum number of push ups was recorded and these values were compared against the individuals change in pulse rate before and after the step up exercise. Statistical significance was determined using a t test. This research could contribute to helping individuals in improving their fitness levels, especially if one is specifically looking to improve either aerobic or anaerobic fitness. It would ... In most cases, transportation modes that are optimal for the society are overlooked because of the specific interests of stakeholders. Freight transportation has replaced rail as number one form of transportation to moves from one point to the other. Lastly, a few other theories relevant to involvement are lightly discussed. Relating involvement with motivation Involvement and motivations go hand in hand when it comes to purchasing decisions. • 28. A Brief Look at Operational Amplifiers Operational amplifiers (Op Amp) have been in use for quite a long a long time now in the field of electronics and electrical engineering. A basic Op Amp has got three connections consisting of 1 output and 2 inputs. For definition purposes the two input terminals are called inverting and non inverting inputs (Huijsing, 2011). Huijsing (2011) adds that it has been found and proven that when the voltage at both points of the inputs is the same, there will be no output on the other side. The image below shows an ideal Op Amp with the terminals shown. FIGURE 1 For an ideal Op Amp the input impedance is infinite for the load and 0 for the source output so this means it can be used as a buffer and an ideal source of voltage and current (Storr, 2014).Carter and Mancini (2009) noted in their book that feedback is always necessary in this amplifier so as to reduce the gain because they have an infinite gain (around a million) when the loop is open but this gain is dependent on the amount of input voltage, so if we apply 0.000001V input the output will be 1V. Application of the Op Amp in circuits is diverse but in this report two circuits will be covered namely the integrator and differential circuit. INTEGRATOR CIRCUITS FROM OP AMP A basic mathematical definition of integration is the main tool used to define this type of amp circuit. In other terms the input signal is integrated so that the outcome is the output signal. This circuit is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 29. Censorship In Young Adult Literature While reading the assigned chapters of the textbook I found many points interesting and informative. The first portion that caught my attention involved how to incorporate both young adult literature and the classics into a curriculum. A very interesting metaphor was used to describe why adolescents shouldn t read the classics. I was really able to relate to the idea of how well written young adult literature can encourage students to read and can possibly lead to reading the classics. I think that it is a great idea to pair a young adult book with a classic in order to engage reading as well as help address certain points of the classic. This idea plays well with how to encourage reluctant readers to want to read, which is the next point I will discuss. A reluctant reader is something that most teachers will have to deal with at some point in their career. It can be very difficult for some students to get into the habit of reading for pleasure, it is also common for avid readers to be in a stage where they just do not want to read. This is a situation that I can relate to very strongly seeing as I love to read but sometimes find myself in a reading slump, where I struggle to motivate myself ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Personally, I had never heard the term censorship used in relation to literature, and that made this section all the more interesting to me. Censorship is used to describe when individuals, such as librarians or teachers, find certain ideas and information dangerous or objectionable to readers. People examine books, films, dramas, and television to determine and suppress information they find offensive. These ideas are practiced by teachers and librarians when finding books for adolescents to read. Books that involve offensive language, violence, sexism, or substance abuse are often not considered to be appropriate for young adults, therefore they are not included in many ... • 30. Explain The Four Criteria Of Dissimilarity Question #2 List and describe the four criteria of authenticity according to the textbook. The historical Jesus Research according to the textbook shows four criteria of Authenticity and they are the following listed below: (Page 152) The Criterion of Multiple Attestation: This criterion simply states that the material about Jesus is probably independent ancient sources. The Criterion of Palestinian Environment: In this criterion a section of material in the Gospels is probably authentic if it appears to be fairly literal translation Semitic (Hebrew or Aramaic) idiom into Greek. The Criterion of Dissimilarity: This talks about the Material in the Gospel is authentic if the sayings or deeds of Jesus recorded in the account are dissimilar to those expected from the Judaism of His day or from the practices and theology of the early church. The Criterion of Coherence: In this we find the material is likely early and authentic if it is consistent with material judged to be authentic based on other criteria. How are these criteria used in studies of the Gospel? Because the study of the Gospel during much of the twentieth century was dominated by an approach called criticism, Andrea J. Kostenberger ET all said, what is more, these criteria of authenticity establish the historical reliability of the Gospels accounts of Jesus supernatural activity including exorcisms, miracles, and His resurrection. Thus these criteria demand a fresh appraisal of the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Nursing Assessment Of Respiratory System CONCEPT 5: NURSING ASSESSMENT OF RESPIRATORY SYSTEM This concept is taken from Block 4, Module 6 which is entitled as Assessment of respiratory system . The respiratory system comprises of different organs used in respiration. Respiration involves inhalation and exchange of oxygen and carbondioxide between living organisms and the environment. The organs of respiration include; the nose, pharynx, larynx, trachea, 2 bronchi, bronchioles, 2 lungs and muscles of breathing (the intercostal muscles and the diaphragm). 5.1 Personal context Respiratory system assessment is the process of evaluating the functioning and condition of a patient s respiratory system. During assessment of the respiratory system, the nurse takes the patient s history and perform a physical examination on the patient. The nurse takes the patients data which include personal history, family history, history of current and past respiratory problem, allergy history or reactions to certain drugs, foods, allergens etc., and occupational history. The nurse also objective data of the patient, these data will help her to know the respiratory condition of the patient and factors that predisposes the patient to respiratory problems. The nurse also conducts a physical examination which include inspection, palpation, percussion and auscultation. Findings from the physical examination will help her in making diagnosis and to plan adequate nursing care. 5.2 Social context The ability to perform proper nursing ... • 33. Overcrowding and Housing in Nineteenth-Century London... Overcrowding and Housing in Nineteenth Century London From 1801 to 1851, the population of London grew from under 1 million inhabitants to 2.25 million. This was due in large part to immigration, both from other countries and from the countryside of England. Hundreds of thousands of people were moving to the newly industrialized cities and towns to find work, having been squeezed off the land because of the enclosure of farms. There was also displacement of the working class within the city of London because of a number of construction projects. There were street improvement schemes in which tenements were razed in order to widen the passages. The transformation of part of the city into a non residential district devoted to finance ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... One of every three inhabitants of flats of 4 or less rooms, irrespective of class, were overcrowded. In 1866, the Sanitary Act defined overcrowding as less than 400 cubic feet for each adult living in a room day and night, or 300 cubic feet for a sleeping room. For children, these dimensions were halved. This means that a man, woman, and one child living in a room 8 x10 x10 would be considered overcrowded. For statistical and census purposes, the London City Council ignored cubic capacity, and counted anything beyond two people per room as overcrowded. Hector Gavin, a lecturer in forensic medicine at Charing Cross Hospital estimated that if all the windows and doors of a typical laborers tenement were shut(against the cold, for example), the maximum length a man could survive before all available oxygen was consumed was seven hours. The Window Tax of 1695, which taxed any opening in a building s exterior walls, was finally repealed by the first Public Health Act of 1848. As the problem of overcrowding became more and more evident, several remedies were tried. There was some individual philanthropy, model dwellings were built by philanthropic capitalists, legislation was passed prohibiting overcrowding, slums were torn down(which, of course, only worsened the problem by displacing more people), there was suburban speculative development closely following the development of the railroad which provided cheap, rapid transit to the newly forming ... • 34. What Are The Disadvantages Of Homeschooling Does homeschooling deprive kids of a normal social life? How can children learn to interact with other people if they stay at home all the time doing school? Many people question whether homeschooling adequately equips kids with skills necessary for life in society. Ms. Liza Blau, founder of NYC Asthma Wellness Center, considers homeschooling a social disadvantage. In her article Social Disadvantages of Home Schooling, she expresses her belief that homeschooled children lack the opportunities to acquire the social skills that other kids hone at public school. However, despite the popular myth that homeschooled children have few opportunities to socialize outside of their family, homeschoolers actually get out of their house more often than one would expect. ... Homeschooled children have the option to hang out at the mall or a café due to finishing school early. They can also work on school with fellow homeschoolers at each other s houses or at a park which provides a change of scenery and the enjoyment of company. Not only can homeschoolers socialize with their peers, but due to their flexible schedules they can also interact with people in diverse age groups. Whether helping a neighbor with yard work, visiting an elderly couple across the street, or babysitting during week days, home taught kids interact with people of all ages unlike building school children who spend all day surrounded by their same age classmates. • 35. The Pros And Cons Of Artificive Robots In discussions of Artificial Intelligent (AI), one controversial issue that people have brought up in regards to humanoid Artificial intelligent robots is the fear that they will be created to be so intelligent that they are able to make decision on their own and do whatever they want to do. Current AI is limited to performing narrow tasks, but the long term goal is to create AI that would outperform humans at almost every cognitive task. On the one hand, people like Honda argues humanoid household robots with the function of AI can be very helpful in today s society. By improving the care given to disabled, sick or elderly people from help around the house to health care. On the other hand, people like the co founder of Tesla, Elon Musk wants to stop the A.I apocalypse, and people like him are afraid that advanced AI is around the corner and will have a greater intelligence than humans. Many people maintain they don t care about AI and what it can or cannot do, while others are clueless to what AI even stands for. My own view on AI robots is that they can be a great step in helping people in many ways. It will revolutionize healthcare and be able to assist in emergency response systems. Although this technology is not around yet, they are close to completing a fully working humanoid AI in a few short years. Artificial intelligence basically boils down to a mechanical program that can learn both language and emotion and make decisions based on them. Merriam Webster dictionary defines Artificial intelligence as, a computer that deals with intelligent behavior and the capability of a machine to imitate human behavior. The Encyclopedia Britannica says a system endowed with the intellectual process characteristic of humans, such as the ability to reason, discover meaning, generalize, or learn from past experience . When looking at the definitions it helps give an idea of what AI is about and what to expect when talking about humanoid AI. They are man made life forms that can be programed to do most anything what a human can do. The helpful humanoid household robot from Honda called Advanced Step Innovated Mobility (ASIMO) is the closest thing to an artificial intelligent life form today. He can hold ... Avianca Flight 052 Case Study Culture in the Cockpit History of Avianca Flight 052 On January 25th, 1990, Avianca Flight 052, a Boeing 707, departed Bogotá, Colombia, South America, enroute to JFK International Airport, New York, after making a scheduled intermediate stop in Medellin, Colombia, South America (FAA, 2017). The flight departed Medellin at 1508 EST with 149 passengers and 9 crewmembers on board (Krause, 2003). Due to weather conditions at JFK there were numerous flight delays for inbound aircraft, and Avianca Flight 052 was given three separate holding instructions while enroute to JFK (Krause, 2003). Shortly after 2133 EST, Avianca Flight 052 crashed in a wooded area near Cove Neck, Long Island, New York, as a result of fuel starvation while returning for a second approach to landing at JFK (NTSB, 1991). The captain of Flight 052 had over 16,000 hours of flight time, with more than 1,500 hours in the 707 (Krause, 2003). The first officer had substantially less experience with about 1,800 hours of total flight time, and only 64 hours in the 707 (Krause, 2003). The second officer, or flight engineer, had over 10,000 hours total flight time, and more than 3,000 of that was in the 707 (Krause, 2003). All three crewmembers were citizens of the Republic of Colombia, and the captain was 52 years old, the first officer was 28, and the second officer was 45 years old (NTSB, 1991). I would explain to Parson that he needs to possess certain management and leadership skills in order to be eligible for that position. I would say that if he keeps up his production and creates goals to improve these skills, then he will be able to get the promotion. I would make sure that my tone will not to be too aggressive so that we don t lose him, but also not too weak in emphasizing the organization s values and culture. • 38. Overview of Barbara Dossey s Nursing Theory Nursing Theory: Barbara Dossey Context of the development of the theory Barbara Dossey is truly a visionary in the holistic nursing movement and her theory is able to further the development of holistic nursing in its entirety as well as bolster patient outcomes. The context in which the theory was developed was in relation and connection to the products and ideas of Ken Wilbur, in an attempt to fortify the fundamental concept of healing (Dossey Keegan, 2003). Dossey s four quadrant model in certain respects is a reaction to and influenced by the work of Wilbur, namely that his volumes stress that no particular or sole researcher, philosopher or theorist can describe, establish or clarify the constituents of reality (Dossey Keegan, 2003). Dossey and Keegan emphasize that the obstacle and objectives in nursing is to bolster one s integral awareness while boosting one s overall strengths and abilities in nursing in general (2003). Ultimately, the theory developed in the context of the belief that healing occurs when the delicate balance and harmony of body and mind and spirit is successfully addressed and how ancient ideas can be effectively integrated in the realm of caring for patient in everyday living (Dosseydossey.com). Nursing Conceptualized in the Theory This theory recognizes how the meta paradigm of nurse, individual, health/wellbeing, surrounding environment (also known as society) have to be acknowledged (Dossey Keegan, 2013). • 39. Point Of View In The Man From Mars By Margaret Atwood Authors use point of view to send a message. Using different forms of point of view sends different messages to the reader. By using point of view effectively, authors can invoke different feelings, emotions, and thoughts in a reader. In The Man from Mars, Margaret Atwood uses the third person limited point of view to create the feeling of ambiguity seen throughout the short story. This point of view allows the reader to feel the same sense of mystery, danger, and fear that the main protagonist, Christine, feels towards the strange man stalking her. Because of the point of view, the story has this impact. If told from the 1st, 2nd, or 3rd person omniscient point of view, the story would be vastly different. By using the 3rd person limited point of view in The Man from Mars, Margaret Atwood allows the reader to feel same sense of mystery that the main character feels while also getting in touch with Christine s inner thoughts. In the 1st person point of view the reader sees the story unfold from the perspective of the narrator. Many novels use this convention such as classics like Catcher in the Rye and Treasure Island. This point of view allows the reader to sympathize with the narrator/main character and place themselves in the lives of these characters. Because of this, however, 1st person narration is limited and biased. The narrator can only know what is taking place around them and even then, the narrator can be considered unreliable due to being able to change certain ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
