Symptoms And Treatment Of A Long Term Condition
This essay will focus on a patients journey and the impact of a long term condition in their lives.
Firstly, an outline of the selected patients journey will be delivered and the pathophysiology and
related nursing care of the patient and their long term condition will be explained. Secondly, the
wider role of the nurse and the self management of the patient with the long term condition will be
explored. Finally, the knowledge gained from this assessment and how it will influence future
practice will be reflected upon. Mrs X is an 81 year old lady who suffered from an ischemic stroke.
She first started noticing the symptoms when she was visiting a friend. Mrs X started
experiencing sudden trouble speaking and seeing, weaknesses, sudden confusion and severe
headache. As her symptoms worsened her friend thought it was necessary to call the emergency
services and after explaining Mrs X s symptoms an ambulance arrived within 15minutes. Mrs X
was quickly escorted to the local accident and emergency department where she was immediately
assessed. A number of tests were carried out including an electrocardiogram to show how the
stroke was caused, a CT scan to determine what type of stroke Mrs X had and a swallowing test
was carried out by speech and language therapy to assess whether or not she could swallow
properly, if not this would create a risk that food may get into the lungs, causing the patient to
aspirate which may lead to severe chest infection or pneumonia. After

Malcolm Gladwell s Blink
Can we know something without knowing how we know it? This is precisely the question that
Malcolm Gladwell sets out to ponder in his book Blink: The Power of Thinking Without Thinking.
Looking at scientific experiments from laboratories nation wide, Gladwell explores the fascinating
phenomenon of thin slicing , or making snap judgments without consciously engaging in the
decision making process. These thin slices , Gladwell asserts, are surprisingly accurate sometimes
even more so than the decisions we make after long hours of careful consideration and reflection.
One particularly interesting question raised by this study is the implications it brings to bear on the
process of thought. Our brains, home to both our conscious and unconscious... Show more content

Gladwell calls for the acceptance of the notion that sometimes we can know something without
knowing how we know it, and he criticizes American culture for demanding that all knowledge by
logically justified and foot noted. But isn t Blink just this sort of endeavor? The books a whole
strives to scientifically justify and foot note the process of the adaptive unconscious and thin
slicing. What bothers us so much about the notion of a thinking unconscious that even its most
vocal advocate reverts to a conscious thought process in his attempt to argue the adaptive

Era Of Good Feelings
The years following the War of 1812 and the Treaty of Ghent (1815 1825) have often been
distinguished as the Era of Good Feelings. It refers to the American s victory in the War of 1812
and is generally marked as a period in political history that reflected a sense of national purpose
and a desire for unity among Americans in the aftermath of the Napoleonic Wars. The period s
nickname suggests that Monroe s years in presidency were marked by a spirit of nationalism,
optimism, and goodwill. Although, the era of good feelings emerged with cultural and economic
Nationalism along with the fading of the Federalist Party, peaceful foreign policies, and the
implantation of the Monroe Doctrine, the perception of unity and harmony can be misleading...

Thomas Jefferson referred to the Missouri Compromise as the geographical line that would
cause more irritation in America every time an issue environmentally came about (6). Although
the Missouri compromise crated a new slave state in Missouri and a free one in Maine, this did
not totally resolve the conflicts about allowing slavery in certain parts of the nation. Jefferson
feared that the nation s perseverance would be affected due to this dividing line. Another
contribution to the growth of political sectionalism was that from 1820 to 1824, the nation
disbanded into multiple political groups (7). By the time the election of 1820 came to a close,
James Monroe won most of the electoral votes, which showed that the people politically agreed on
one person to run their nation. But overtime areas began to split into different groups; supporting
different people with different ideas. Therefore, the increase in sectionalism began to grow. With
people having different views politically, the period after the War of 1812 cannot be considered the

Single Sex School
Why Single Sex School?
Single sex schools are the best way of education and vital for our children in order for them to be
taught in an environment that is away from distractions and to be more successful, focused and
emotionally stable. There are several reasons which shows that single sex schools are important
and why it s the best way for good education.
The first reason is that boys and girls are not equal and develop at different times and speeds;
therefore they should be taught separately. Acording to Gilbert (2007), Aacademic planners and
school superintendents in the 1960 s had this foundamental assumption; they used to think that
separate means unequal, so fearing that they would be unfair, provoking inequality and sexual ...

The second reason why single sex schools are the way to go is that boys and girls distract each
other from their education, especially in adolescence as their sexual and emotional sides develop.
They spend too much time trying to impress or sexually harassing each other especially boys
toward girls. Academic competition between the sexes is unhealthy and only adds to the
unhappiness and anxiety among weaker students. As Trichia Kelleher, a school principle, argues
rather than girls defining themselves by their interests, they define themselves by what the boys
think of them or what other girls think boys think of them . Furthermore, John Silber (2002),
President of Boston University, declared that his university would prioritize male applications in
order to even up the student composition and ensure the male population did not become
ungentlemanly towards women due to their numerical inferiority. John as a preident of Boston saw
how females can be a sexual distraction towarad males in class rooms and tried to slove that by
admitting more males to the university. A single sex environment is therefore a space where
(children) can learn without feeling pressurized by the other sex.
As odd it may sound, some people argues that children need to be exposed to the opposite sex in
preparation for later life; this fact should be further evaluated and analysed logically. Nobody in
this world comes without parents, and as children we can get

The Role Of Hope In John Steinbeck s Of Mice And Men
The plane crashed at the top of a mountain in the middle of nowhere. In The Mountain Between
Us, Alex and Ben both were trying to fly out of Idaho so Alex could be at her wedding and Ben
could perform surgery the next morning. The airport had shut down due to an oncoming snow
storm. The strangers flew out together on a small plane. The pilot had a heart attack mid flight
and the plane crashed. Neither Ben nor Alex wanted to die and their hope to live encouraged
teamwork and patience so both of them could eventually make it to safety. Similarly in Of Mice
and Men, John Steinbeck uses George, Lennie, and Candy s relationship to teach the reader that
hope can bring people together. George and Lennie s hope for a better future helps keep their...

he learns that he could get a farm with George and Lennie if he works through the end of the

Paper On Drones
Introduction
Drones have been making a splash in the UAV industry. The ability of these drones to fly by
themselves and at great heights makes them one of a kind. The public has only been able to
have their hands on these drones for the last half decade. Drone technology is driven along as
the technology inside the drone is increasing. Drones can do bountiful objectives and is
improving and in the future, it could bring even more. According to Keen (2015), The media to
a great extent concentrate on these applications, however rambles and the versatile innovation,
controlling them are progressively being utilized to take care of obstinate worldwide issues.
Drones are an impressive technology, and we will go into further detail how it is shaping the
world with its technology. Drones can also have problems with just having to register them. It is
a conitiuing problem for people that just want to use it at their home. We will look farther into
this and many more issues and successes of drones. This paper will look at the history, and the
drone s technology and its innovation. The paper will analyze how drones and its technology are
shaping the world as it is today. After the analysis of drones is thoroughly explained, there will be
conclusions stated based on the materials presented in this paper.

In the case of drone technology, it is continuously changing from military use to entertainment and
commercial use. Firstly, drones are also known as UAV which stands for unnamed aerial
vehicles. The reason behind them being called UAV s is that they do not have pilots or crew
members and can be controlled with computers on the aircraft by someone else on the ground.
The first use of a drone was for military purposes; it was introduced after the first World War in
1916. On November of 1917 they showed the first UAV; it was so successful they wanted to
incorporate it in the US army

The Rainbow Fish By Marcus Pfiter
In my final picture book read aloud, I am going to read The Rainbow Fish, by Marcus Pfister. The
main element of craft that I am going to highlight are the illustrations. The illustrations play a very
important role in this book because it catches the children s attention and helps bring the book to
life. In The RainbowFish, a fish, named Rainbow Fish, has the most beautiful sliver scales that
sparkle and shine (Pfister 4). However, Rainbow Fish is proud and selfish, and does not want to
share his beautiful scales with the other fish (Pfister 8 11). So the other fish ignore Rainbow Fish
and leave him all by his lonesome self (Pfister 11). Later on, Rainbow Fish gets some advice from
the all knowing octopus (Pfister 14). The octopus tells Rainbow Fish that he will be happy if he
shares all of his scales (Pfister 14 16). So Rainbow Fish takes his advice and shares all of his scales
with all the other fish (Pfister 24). At the end, Rainbow Fish learns how to make friends by sharing
his most prized scales (Pfister 27).... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, Pfister also puts sliver sticker scales on Rainbow Fish to show his most beautiful sliver
scales that pop off of the page. I believe this illustration plays an important role in The Rainbow
Fish because Rainbow Fish is supposed to be the most beautiful fish in the entire ocean. And I
believe that Marcus Pfister did a wonderful job depicting Rainbow Fish as the most beautiful fish in
the ocean in this illustration. That is why I believe that the artwork is the most important element
of craft in this

12 Angry Men Movie Analysis
Twelve Angry Men AnalysisBA 321
Reaching a unanimous vote, beyond a reasonable doubt, was a difficult task for the jurors
represented in the film, 12 Angry Men. All but one were convinced the boy on trial was guilty of
first degree murder based on eye witness testimony and circumstantial evidence. Uncomfortably hot
and sweaty, one intent on getting to a ball game, eleven of the twelve jurors had no intention to stop
and think about the life contingent on their verdict. The entire story was motivated by the reasonable
doubt, communication competence, and persuasion of one man. Had they not discussed the
evidence in further detail and investigated potential explanations, the boy would have been
executed. The purpose of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The diversity issues explored in the film are most discernable in Jurors #3, #5, and #10. Juror #3
constantly explodes with bottled up anger, blinding him to the facts. Juror #5 shares his
upbringing in a slum, identifying with the boy s struggle growing up in an underprivileged area in
an abusive family. Juror # 10 is an unreasonable bigot whose prejudice ultimately demonstrates his
lack of credibility. Even Juror #4, who was one of the last to concede, told Juror #10, now sit down
and don t open your mouth again (Lumet, 1975). Eventually the biases among the group were
overcome, as they made no contribution to determining innocence or guilt. The jury did achieve
their goal to reach a unanimous decision, but it was not the original goal of each juror. There
were clearly mixed feelings regarding the conclusion of their deliberation, including self
awareness, reflection, and relief. A swift and undiscussed decision concerning the fate of the boy s
life was an inappropriate approach for the jury. In the end, all of the jurors were satisfied with the
verdict of not guilty, but for very different reasons.

Taking a Look at the Wright Brothers

most important inventors in history. With out the invention of the plane, world war one and
two would have been very different and with out planes who knows what would have happened
the Germans could have won the war and the whole world would have been different then. I
hope you enjoy this paper and I hope that you learn a lot about the Wright Brothers that you didn
t know before you read this paper. On December 17, 1903, Orville Wright piloted the first
powered airplane 20 feet above a wind swept beach in North Carolina. The flight lasted 12
seconds and covered 120 feet. Three more flights were made that day with Orville s brother
Wilbur piloting the record flight lasting 59 seconds over a distance of 852 feet. (Eyewitness to

Letter From Birmingham Jail
In Letter from Birmingham Jail, Martin Luther King, Jr. refutes the condemnatory claims made by
eight white Alabama clergymen. By appealing to ethos, logos, and pathos King argues that he is
not an outsider and that the experience of African Americans in segregated Birmingham warrants
well intentioned demonstration and civil disobedience. In doing so, he calls attention to the
clergymen s hypocrisy and firmly garners their respect and understanding. Martin Luther King gains
the clergymen s trust and belief by establishing his moral character through ethos. King first
accomplishes this by employing a tone of respect. He addresses the clergymen in the beginning
paragraph as men of genuine good will whose criticisms are sincerely set forth (6 7). This makes the
clergymen feel that their integrity and their concerns are heavily valued. When King later
denounces their beliefs and actions, they are more likely to accept it as King s effort to achieve
understanding between the two groups rather than an attack on their personal characteristics. A
reverent tone is further built with King s choice to refer to the clergymen as sirs (121), my
Christian and Jewish brothers (175), and other honorifics throughout the letter. Even as his
frustration escalates, using these titles compel the white clergymen to continue reading the
arguments, believing the writer because the writer believes in their morality. Another major... Show

Hunting Should Not Be Banned
In a civilized and cultivated country, wild animals only continue to exist at all when preserved by
sportsmen ( MARC FOLCO: Some hunting, fishing quotes to live by ). Hunters are the leading
source for all conservation programs. Theodore Roosevelt was one of the most passionate hunters.
People put down huntinglike it s a bad thing. Many hunters contribute billions of dollars the the
economy. Hunting should not be banned because of the positive impacts it has on society. Through
strictly regulated hunting we have reintroduced and repopulated various game species into areas
where they were previously wiped out due to extremely excessive hunting by settlers. In the early
1900s all of Indiana s whitetail deerwere virtually extinct. By the 1930s whitetail deer were
beginning to be reintroduced into Indiana. In just 20 years after initial reintroduction the population
was at a sustainable level so that regulated modern hunting programs could begin. Conservationism
has been a necessity to the ecology of the United States and many other countries around the
world. The U.S. Forest Service by itself manages 193 million acres of public land nationwide or
roughly 8% of the total land in the United States. The management of this land would not be
feasible without the funding hunters provide through licenses, tags, and stamps. The 193 million
acres does not include any public recreational land on the state level. There is 2,260,380 acres of
public hunting land in all the states

Effect Of Substrate Concentration On Enzyme Activity
The Effect of Environmental Conditions on Enzyme Activity
Ikram Hassan
SBI3UW 02
November 13, 2017.
Research Question: What is the effect of substrate concentration (as measured in % concentration)
on the rate of enzyme activity (as calculated by the dividing the measured distance in cm, +/ 0.1
cm, travelled by a substance in a manometer by the time in seconds, +/ 0.5 seconds)?
Background:
A substrate is a molecule which is acted upon by an enzyme. For a chemical reaction to occur
through enzyme, substrate molecules bind to the active site of an enzyme, which contains residues
that catalyse the reaction of the substrate.
Hypothesis: If the concentration of the substrate is increased, then the rate of enzyme activity will
decrease. This is because as the concentration of the substrate increases, there is an increasing
amount of occupied active sites at any given moment. This will cause a decrease in the rate of
enzyme activity as substrate active site collisions are increasingly slowed down thus bringing down
the rate of enzyme activity.
Variables:
Independent: Substrate Concentration: Throughout the experiment, the concentration of the
substrate used will be increased in order to determine the effect of an increase of substrate
concentration on enzyme activity. The substrate throughout the experiment will be a hydrogen
peroxide solution and an original 30% concentration will be diluted with water into 10% and 5%
concentrations in order to observe the effect of

A Performance Analysis Of Tarry Flynn
A Performance Analysis of Tarry Flynn
Tarry felt he wasn t a Christian. His gods were in poetry, in the fields, in living things.
Wayne Jordan s production on Tarry Flynn in The Lir on Monday 20th October, opened with an
enactment of village commotion. Stylised swarms of characters entered and exited from every
corner of the theatre in the round, each concerned with their own activity. As the rhythm, speed and
energy climaxed Tarry Flynn enters and Mary Reilly is knocked off her bike. It later becomes clear
that this symbolises her molestation. From the outset, Jordan displaces Tarry from the rest of the
community. Jordan continues distancing Tarry throughout the play and particularly emphasises
Tarry and the youth of Drumnay s detachment from the church. It is clear that Wayne Jordan s
direction of Tarry Flynn conveys the clash of ideologies between the Catholic Churchand the youth
of 1930 s rural Ireland. This essay will go on to analyse three examples in support of this.
In the1930 s, Ireland was known as one of the most sexually repressed countries in the world.
Ireland was a Catholic country, with over 90% of the population declaring themselves to be
practising Catholics. The church was a potent social and political force. It dominated peoples lives
and provided the ideological basis for this sexual repression. The ideology of the church was one of
submission and dedication and was based on the Ten Commandments. The power of the church and

Things Fall Apart Rhetorical Analysis Essay
he narrative tone in the book Things Fall Apart is more indicative of an explanatory approach
especially when describing the Igbo culture. The style of the diction suggests a familiarity with the
subject that is not necessarily purposefully shown, but is evident in the way Achebe chooses his
words and how he describes events throughout the book. Throughout the course of the book Achebe
frequently uses African worlds and phrases to describe and show the different aspect of Igbo
culture. The familiarity in, which the narrative focuses on the African language creates a sense of
authenticity to the writing. What is unique about the narrative tone found within the book is that
not only does the author frequently insert the african language within the diction, but the way he
translates or explains the words in plain english so the readers who are unfamiliar with the
language can still follow, for example: Agbala do o o o! Umuachi! Agbala ekene unuo o ol It was

He does this in a way that is not seem more catered towards younger readers, for there are aspects
within the text that are still rather vague proving Achebe knows what he is talking about, but
does not immediately assume others do not know as well. Additionally, the book is filled with a
litany of richly descriptive words that is not only used to describe the people and items within
the book, but also creates a type of imagery that is impressive yet concise, and example is this
passage: The ancient drums of death beat, guns and cannon were fired, and men dashed about in
frenzy, cutting down every tree or animal they saw, jumping over walls and dancing on the roof.
It was a warrior s funeral, and from morning till night warriors came and went in their age groups.

And although the economic injustices are already prevalent and disturbing, the numbers continue
and grow even more astonishing. While 19.8% of white children lived in poverty, the rate reached
a ridiculous 38.2% for African American children during the same time. Unemployment also
plagued the area and increased significantly during the late 80s and early 90s. As large
manufacturers such as Firestone, Goodyear, and Bethlehem Steel departed South Central L.A.,
residents were forced to find alternative sources for jobs, a task that proved to be extremely
difficult (Tucker Jr.). This truth was only accentuated by the lack of transit, which prevented many
from getting jobs far from their communities ( 1992 Los Angeles Riots ). Consequently, from June
1990 to February 1992 (20 months), more than 300,000 jobs were lost, a number that accounted
for 60% of the all the jobs lot in California during that time. This means that over 20 jobs were lost

Research Paper On Phobia
INTRODUCTION
Everyone is afraid of something. These fears are all normal; lots of other people feel the same way
that you do. What do you fear more than anything else? Everyone is afraid of something like
spiders or heights, these fears are all normal. People who have a specific powerful fear suffer from a
phobia. A phobia is an intense fear of a specific object, situation, or activity. Mental health
professionals have identified hundreds of phobias. No one is certain what causes a phobia. People
can sometimes manage and even overcome them on their own. In other cases, they need to seek
professional treatment to deal with their phobias. This research includes the definition of phobia;
also it will describe the common types of phobia, it causes and signs.
Definition of phobia:
A phobia is an exaggerated and irrational fear. The term phobia is often used to refer to a fear of
one particular trigger. A phobia is a type of anxiety disorder that causes an individual to experience
extreme, irrational fear about a situation, living creature, place, or object. When a person has a

Poverty And Poverty Quotes
Almost half of the entire world is so greatly impoverished that they live on less than $2.50 per
day, and at least eighty percent live on less than ten dollars each day. With this much of the human
population affected by such a terrible issue they must have a very strong will power to survive.
The issue of povertyrequires people to endure certain circumstances which could be similar to the
ones shown in Angela s Ashesby Frank McCourtor The Street by Ann Petry. McCourt
demonstrates a mindset of survival by depicting a little boy stealing to provide for his starving
family. Petry uses a single black mother in search of a new home while also facing a violent wind
storm. The passages from Angela s Ashes by Frank McCourt and The Street by Ann Petry use
characters, events, and settings to help prove the theme that when people are affected by poverty,
they keep moving forward with the help of perseverance.
While writing Angela s Ashes, Frank McCourt used characters, events, and setting to portray the
theme that people who struggle with poverty require perseverance. First, McCourt uses the main
character, Frank, to help support his theme. The narrator of the story explains that he has to do a
lot to provide for his family when Frank thinks, I can t spend my whole life running around lifting
lemonade from pubs (McCourt 10). This is significant because it shows that Frank and his family
struggle with poverty which prevents them from being able to go out and buy food

Trip to Colorado
My family and I had planned a trip to Denver, Colorado to visit my brother and his girlfriend. It
took months and months to finally have it all planned out, but we finally figured everything out.
We left for the cities on a Wednesday night. We stayed in a sketchy hotel in the cities by the
airport and flew out of Minneapolis around 5:30 a.m. I was so nervous, as it was my very first
plane ride. The plane was quite small. Our plane was delayed due to them having to deice the
plane due to all the cold. I suddenly started to feel sick, all my nerves had gotten to me so I
reached for the puke bag and puked everywhere! I was so embarrassed, my family and people
around me were laughing so hard at me because I had gotten myself so worked up. But once the
plane started up I felt much better.
As we arrived in Colorado, we went to go get our rental car and then headed to Pikes Peak as we
waited for Jordan and Monet to get off of work. My family had really struggled to find Pikes Peak,
we plugged it into our google maps and it took us to a campground called Pikes Peak then it took
us to a playground that was called Pikes Peak . We laughed and joked around, since we were
getting lost so easily on our first day there. But finally we found the actual Pikes Peak! We drove
all the way to the top! It was so scary driving to the top, the wind was so strong the higher we got.
Mom and I were freaking out because of how high up we were, it was so scary

Importance Of Voting A Right To Vote
A blazing sun beats down on a desolate parking lot. A man with a clipboard desperately searches
for signatures, begging for his rights to be returned. This man is a felon, and his right to vote has
been taken away. Approximately 5.85 million Americans can t vote due to a felony charge (Newsy).
Although it can be argued that felons have lost their privilege to vote, felon disenfranchisement has
affected and still affects a disproportionate amount of people of color, takes out a huge voter block,
and inhibits the rehabilitation process. Therefore, community members should sign petitions or
contact senators to help felons regain their rights.
Some sources believe felons should not be given the right to vote after having committed a felony,
because voting is a privilege. Once people commit a felony, they lose this privilege. They also
believe that since felons have committed a crime, they do not have the ability to make judgements
in elections. If they made the judgement to commit a crime, they do not have the right mindset to
make a judgement in an election.
These sources believe that voting is a privilege, but voting is a right guaranteed to the American
people. Felons, despite their past crimes, are still American citizens and they don t deserve to have
their right taken away. Furthermore, the idea that felons are incapable of making judgements in
politics because of their crimes is absurd. The whole point of their imprisonment is to rehabilitate
them into society and put

Oregon, a 10th grade female Nigerian student has transferred to a new school and is displaying
problems adapting to her new environment. Oregon and her family have been living in the
United States in the same community for the last five years, and have recently relocated to better
community. Oregon feels lost, confused and even scared when she tries to interact with students
in her new school. Oregon lacks confidence and feels because of her background she is not
worthy to be in the children social circle. She has become recluse in school and at home. She has
expressed her problems to her parents and asked if she could speak with the school counselor to
seek help. Since her parents are also concerned with her well being they have requested the
school counselor to speak with her. Oregon is usually a vibrant adolescent and enjoys learning

is not willing to join any school activities and her grades are average. Her family values education
and would like for Oregon to take advantage of the educational opportunities in the community. The

High Albedo Lab
Introduction
The cryosphere consists of all frozen water on earth. It is found in the high northern and southern
latitudes of the planet. The components of the cryosphere include the following: sea ice, glaciers,
ice sheets, ice shelves, snow cover, freshwater ice, and frozen groundwater. The cryosphere plays
an important role in cooling the planet. The cryosphere, being ice, has a high albedo. The accepted
albedo of ice in the cryosphere is .6 or 60%, meaning ice reflects 60% of incoming shortwave
radiation. It is important that the cryosphere has a high albedo because it helps the planet to
absorb less coming radiation, thus helping to cool the atmosphere. Surfaces such as the open ocean
or asphalt roads have a lower albedo; these surfaces absorb more incoming radiation and ... Show

The results of the Measuring Albedo lab are given in table 1. Accepted albedo value were obtained
from _____. The ice had the highest albedo, meaning is reflected the most incoming light. The
surface with the lowest albedo was the soil. The table shows the experimental albedos to be lower
than the accepted albedos of each surface. It is very likely that the experimental albedos were lower
than the accepted albedo due to human error in measuring the incident illuminance and the
reflected illuminance. The values for incident illuminance were higher than expected. They were
likely skewed by the distance the light meter senor was held from the heat lamp. Further effort
should be taken when repeating this method so that the experimental albedo accurately represents
the accepted albedo. This can be accomplished by taking care to hold the light meter sensor at the
appropriate distance from the heat lamp. It would have been better to get multiple recordings for
the incident illuminance rather than one so the incident illuminance can more accurately represent

Cause And Effect Essay On Drunk Driving
Within the U.S and around the world, drunk driving is a major problem that is slowly destroying
the world around us by making it unstable to the rest of people who do partake in this action by
choice or at all. Drunk driving has done a large amount of damage to almost everything we know
from destroying whole families to making it unsafe for almost anyone to be on the road or close
to it because of these reckless drivers that in some way got behind the wheel of a motor vehicle
while in a drunken state making them a force that is a real danger to anyone. Drunk drivingis a
serious crime nowadays and has a hefty punishment to go with it depending on the amount of
damage done while behind the wheel. Taking the action of being behind the wheel while
intoxicated is a problem that not only endangers the driver but everyone around them causing
problems for everyone and everything. There are different types of drunk driving but most have
the same outcome in the end being that something bad ends up happening in the end. In the
world today drunk driving is a true problem all over, this issue is spread across the world causing
it to be a major danger to anybody that is in the pathway of the driver or behind the wheel of a
motor vehicle. With drunk driving being such a major problem all over the world, stats show
what places in the world will most likely have drunk drivers on the road. Currently the country
that has the most common occurrence with drunk driving is south africa. Other countries that
are listed after south africa for most common drunk drivers to occur is canada in second, the U.S
in 3rd, australia in 4th, and Italy in 5th, the list goes on. Being the 3rd country in the world to
have the most common drunk driver problems gives the U.S a bad reputation. Having this be
fact shows how bad of a problem that drunk driving really is for not only the U.S but all over the
world, which all cause major problems in some way to the people or the rest of the U.S. The
problem with drunk driving seems to be that people don t think that there is little punishment to
doing it and being caught in the act.
The cause of drunk driving it the amount of drinking that is able to be done nowadays with little

Jordan stands out on and off the court. Jordan exudes a greater drive for success. Michael Jordan
is a better defender overall. His teammates weren t as fundamentally sound as Lebron s, meaning
Jordan had to work even harder for his championships. Jordan is the best basketballplayer in
history. In addition to his physical game, his mental game is equally or even stronger. To win at a

Lebron had five hall of famers on his team, Dwyane Wade, Chris Bosh, Ray Allen, Kyrie Irving,
and Kevin Love. Michael Jordan only had two hall of famers, Scottie Pippen and Dennis Rodman.
MJ had to carry his team in the playoffs. Through his three Game 7s, Jordan averaged 33.7 points
(Favale). Lebron could not even compete with Michael Jordan s stats. Michael didn t have an
all star center or an all star point guard, so he was facilitating and rebounding the ball more for
his team. On the other hand, Lebron had an all star point guard when in Cleveland, Kyrie Irving.
Chris Bosh was an all star center when Lebron was in Miami. This goes to show if you have the
talent, then you won t need to rely on other players to achieve success. Michael Jordan said,
Some people want it to happen, some wish it would happen, others make it happen (Jordan).
Jordan means that other people wait for greatness and rely on their teammates to make them
look better. Michael Jordan had no one to rely on but himself. Jordan is better than Lebron
because he worked hard and didn t depend on anyone else to make his own success for himself.
Generally speaking, Michael Jordan is an overall better player than Lebron James. Michael
Jordan shows a greater drive for success, a distinguished defense, and adaptability to his
teammates around him. Lebron James is not an awful player. He just does not have the skills
and mindset to be as great as Jordan. If you were going to rate these two players on a scale to one

This lack of connection between the clips and what the documentary is addressing causes viewers
to become less engaged in the visual aspects of the documentary and will eventually become
disinterested with the documentary altogether. A declining enthusiasm for the documentary causes
the purpose, message, and essentially the entirety of the documentary to become less impactful. The
title of this documentary is Minimalism: A Documentary about the Important Things, but the film
itself is not very minimalistic, nor does it focus solely on the important ideas of minimalism. The
documentary is filled with multiple people s different stories of their journey to minimalism and
many different points of view making it quite cluttered . The film should, ideally, take on the idea
of minimalism through the footage, and the number of interviews they had. By having less
opinions shared in the film it would allow the viewer to make a stronger connection to each of the
individuals they hear to making the argument easier to follow and understand. The camera angles,
frames, and scenes in the documentary are too varied. Minimalism is about focusing solely on the
important things in your life, and the creator of this documentary should focus entirely on the
important aspects of minimalism in every aspect of the film. The film Minimalism focuses on the
concept of breaking past society s

The Is A Selfless Act For Serving Ones Country
Serving in the U.S. Military is a selfless act to serve ones country. Any able bodied American that
can meet the physical, emotional, and mental requirements should have the ability to serve in
some capacity to include Transgender Americans. In 2011 don t ask, don t tell act was repealed
(Don t Ask Don t Tell), thus allowing LGB service members to serve, but what about the T? The
repeal left Transgenderservice members to continue to serve in secrecy or lose their career
(Transgender Military Post DADT). Being transgender does not limit ones capacity to perform a
job. Despite potential controversies in the workplace, Transgender Americans should be permitted
to serve their country as they are equally as capable, and willing to give their lives for their country.
Being Transgender is actually part of an umbrella term that encompasses anyone whom doesn t
identify as their birth gender. Transgender, has until recent years been something not often
discussed, many people not personally knowing or having met a transgender person that they know
of. It is estimated 700,000 American adults, representing 0.3 percent of the nation s adult
population are transgender (Medical Aspects of Transgender Military Service). Percentage wise this
may not seem significant thus explaining why so little is known, however, 700,000 is a significant
number of people.

Northern Ireland Research Paper
The Troubles was a time period of revolt and discrimination in Northern Ireland that lasted from the
late 1960s until 1998, beginning with direct British involvement in Northern Ireland and formally
ending with the Good Friday Agreement. However, it can be argued that the tension that persisted
during The Troubles still exists today. The Troubles stemmed from the dissolution of a long period
of peaceful tension between two political groups, the Nationalists and Unionists and by extension
two major ethnic groups Irish Catholic and British Protestant. The Nationalists were predominantly
Catholic and shared their religion with the Irish as such the Nationalists wanted Northern Irelandto
remain part of Ireland and felt that Northern Ireland was an affront to their Irish heritage. However,
they were a minority in Northern Ireland being about 33% of the population. Alternatively, the
Unionists which were predominantly Protestant and were mostly immigrants or children of
immigrants from England wanted Northern Ireland to properly establish itself as part of the United
Kingdom and saw the Nationalists and Catholics as backwards people against the flow of progress.
The Protestant portion of the population was a majority in Northern Ireland and through the
Unionist party they established complete control, although not completely through their own efforts
which were to simply overwhelm the Catholic minority. The Unionists also came to power because
Nationalists became apathetic

The Effects Of Concussion Within Ks3 Rugby And Discuss The...
Introduction
Within this assignment I will be exploring the influence of concussion within KS3 rugby and
discuss the signs and symptoms it has on young athletes and the impact it has on their return to
physical activity.
Understanding concussion
Before we can recognize the symptoms, we must first understand what concussion actually is.
Minor traumatic brain injury (Mtbi) is the medical term used when there is a sudden onset but
brief loss of cognitive function that occurs after a blow or other moderate trauma to the head that
jars or shakes the brain inside the skull. Normally, the fluid around the brain acts like a layer of
protection that keeps your brain from knocking into your skull. However, with moderate force, the
brain can hit the cranial/ mandible and become injured. Signs and Symptoms
The signs and symptoms of a concussion can be very evident or it can subtle and may not be
immediately apparent. Depending on the severity, Symptoms can last for days, weeks or even
longer.
Common symptoms after an Mtbi are headache, loss of memory (amnesia) and confusion. The
amnesia, which may or may not follow a loss of consciousness, usually involves the loss of
memory of the event that caused the concussion. Other symptoms can include; Headache or a
feeling of pressure in the head, Temporary loss of consciousness, Confusion or feeling as if in a
fog, Amnesia surrounding the traumatic event, Dizziness or seeing stars, Ringing in the ears and
Nausea.

Disadvantages Of Fracking Essay
All of the articles I have discovered discuss advantages and disadvantages for fracking that range
from political, environmental and economic impacts. Throughout my articles, there may have been
some authors who were biased but they still were credible and helpful. I discovered from my

The author s consistently brought up that local facilities can be affected due to chemical slips in the
water and affect health because there is a possibility that citizens can consume it. Another is
fracking can cause earthquakes due to the pressure from the water, which then creates the crack and
makes the ground more unstable. From these sources, (Biello,... Show more content on

I found one (Harvey) that discussed through a political view as well, but he used a different
tactic. Harvey gives a couple advantages for fracking some disadvantages. He states that fracking
provides an endless amount of jobs for those in need of one. The author also discusses that America
is rising because running a more efficient economy and producing more oil at home has allowed the
United States to reduce dependence on oil from repressive Arab states . Harvey then adds the
Petro states and includes a list of the world s top oil producers to show that America is rising and
becoming more independent. Harvey converses about an ounce of prevention and that those high
standards will prevent serious problems. Last but not least, the author wraps it up with the
possibility that if we mismanage the oil and gas bounty, we just might suffer many of their ills ,
therefore stating that we have to make sure we handle fracking the right way or it will backfire.
The author delivers multiple examples and proof of fracking advantages through linking his
sources and adding a list for support. Therefore, I can conclude that Harvey was credible and
effective because he helped me understand more of the advantages that fracking offers by providing

that loneliness was significantly correlated with the anthropomorphic mental state ratings, the
second hypothesis was that participants in the disconnected condition reported stronger belief in
supernatural agents than participants in the other two conditions combined. The last hypothesis
was that participants in the disconnected condition were more likely to select one of the three social

From the article by Epley, Akalis, Waytz Cacioppo, it can be concluded that there is a relationship
to fill the gap of human social connection. What did the lonely human do to humanize their pet?
This could help explain the relationship between the pet and human. Perhaps some participants
are just normal pet owners, and some take their pet t work, dress them up in human clothes and
even read them bedtime stories. Understanding this information will allow us to know how far a
person is willing to go to fill the gap. To expand even further upon the idea researchers could
examine the cause of loneliness and divide the participants into categories to draw research based

How Did Emperor Muthito Change Japan
Emperor Mutsuhito, also known as Emperor Meiji, was born in Japan and eventually became an
emperor there. The period in which he ruled was referred to as the Meiji Era, which means
enlightened peace . During this time, he made many decisions that worked to reverse the last two
centuries of Japan isolation. This included the elimination of feudalism and the establishment of a
more centralized government. For example, in 1889, the emperor established a new constitution
modeled after several European nations. He also changed education to focus more on math and
science, instead of Japanese culture. Although several groups resented these decisions, Emperor
Mutsuhito s decisions helped Japan to grow and become more successful. Another ruler, Kemal...

Kemal Ataturk helped to industrialize the nation and help it to grow. Finally, Shah Reza Pahlavi is
another leader who had a very big impact on his country. He had a military career as a young man,
having enlisted in the Persian Cossack Brigade. One of his most notable achievements is his
contribution to overthrowing the Tehran government. Afterwards, he became minister of war, then
prime minister, and finally Shah of Iran. Pahlavi focused mainly on internal reforms during this
time, which many considered to be radical. Overall, he improved the country by making many

The Utilization Of Ancient Greek Values
The utilization of Ancient Greek values through the use of characters in Medea
Throughout the play Medea written Euripides, an assortment of unique characters are presented to
the audience. At first glance, the characters in the play seem to serve as the normal society in
Ancient Greece. This is true to a certain degree but Euripides intended it to be more than their
standard social roles. Euripides utilizes characters such as the all women choir, King Creon, Medea
and others to convey his perception of what is his modern but now Ancient Greek traditional values
are to him and even pushes the boundaries by breaking some of the social standards set during his
time. With a deeper understanding of the characters, the audience will be able to ... Show more

The Choir s disgust of King Creon is evident in the scene where he appeared to banish Medea
from Corinth, the First Woman said I have seen this man s arrogance, I watched and heard him. I
am of Corinth, and I say that Corinth is not well ruled. (Jeffers 12) Followed by the Second
Woman saying The city where even a foreigner, suffers unjustly the rods of power is not well
ruled. (Jeffers 12) The repeated phrase is not well ruled undoubtedly shows their displeasure
under his rule along with the Choir s constant criticism of him throughout their dialogue. The
women are also sympathetic towards Medea as would any other citizen would feel because of the
traumatic events that had just occurred to Medea. When judging Medea s actions, no one protest
more to her plots then the women, First Woman I think you ought to persuade Medea to come
from the dark dwelling, and speak with us, before her heart breaks. (Jeffers 6) The women are
attempting to persuade Medea from her dark thoughts but to little avail because Medea ultimately
commits her revenge. Despite the women s simplistic appearance in the play, Euripides exploits
their role to represent the vast number of ordinary Greek citizens and to counsel Medea on her
actions.
Another similar role the audience will recognize is the presence of a tyrannical ruler in the play,
this role is placed in the hands of King Creon, the ruler of Corinth. King Creon s

Gatorade Research Paper
In the 2012 NFL season, NFL teams drank 1,800,144 bottles of Thirst Quencher. Gatorade had
been in football since the athletes were doing strenuous exercises, they continually battled
dehydration in the Florida heat (Wickford). Our bodies sweat system relies on salts to pump water
onto our skin to evaporate and cool us off (Wilcox). But is Gatoradeas healthy as they make it out to
be?
Gatorade says that their drink was born in a Lab (Jim F). In early summer of 1965, a University of
Florida assistant coach sat down with a team of university physicians and asked them to
determine why so many of his players were being affected by heat and heat related illnesses,
(Gatorade). They soon discovered two key factors that were causing Gator players to fall apart:
the fluids and electrolytes the players lost through sweat were not being replaced, and the large
amounts of carbohydrates the players bodies used for energy were not being replenished
(Gatorade). The researchers then took their findings into the lab, and made a new, precisely

The Sports drink is full of sugar, doing more harm than good. If someone drank Gatorade when
they are not doing anything to make them sweat, it is getting them fatter. Christie Wilcox
explains this is her article, Sports Drinks: More Harm Than Good?, If your goal is to lose

work out at a high intensity for a long time, they do not need the extra calories. So sports drinks
are not for the casual exerciser, while taking a ten minute treadmill run or jog around the block.
However, if someone is doing strenuous exercises for a long period of time, sports drinks can be
highly beneficial. In fact, the Houston Texans drank 88,224 bottles of Thirst Quencher throughout

The Pros And Cons Of Open Border Policy
Modern day America has put strict boundaries on immigration, but during the 18th and 19th
centuries, an open immigration policy was encouraged and accepted. The concept of America as
the land of dreamers and new beginnings is now lost due to recent border policies. An open border
policy should be implemented in America as it upholds the Constitution, benefits the domestic and
international economy, and maintains ethical standards for preserving human life.
Border restrictions and confinements on migration put the very principles of the constitution at
stake. Many proponents of closed borders utilize the Constitution s Foreign Commerce Clause ,
located in Article 1, to support their argument that Congress has been granted power over migration.
According to Ilya Somin, a law professor at George Mason University, the clause supposedly gives
Congress control over migration and border policies. Despite this supposition, the Foreign
Commerce Clause is merely the realization of its name: it only grants Congress power over
commerce between foreign entities. The term commerce implies economic transactions and
consequently the movement of commodities, in this case, international movement of commodities.
While manual labor can be considered a commodity, immigration itself is not only the movement of
manual labor. Immigration is the motion of hope and humanity, a movement in pursuit of the
American dream. This may be represented in manual labor, but immigration is not only that, it

Women Were Not For The Public World
In the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, it was widely believed that women were not
suited for the public world (p.493). It is no secret that women were treated less than a man, and
that belief proves it. Women took a stand for themselves by creating groups for women with
similar beliefs to come together and show the world that they are equal to men. The groups they
established aided the community in several different ways. Some supported local public places
and others passed laws that improved women s and children s quality of life. Through the hard
work of these groups, many different career paths opened up to women that were originally
labeled a man s job. If it wasn t for the women who asserted their authority back then, I may not
have been granted the rights I have today to even be in this class. Originally women s
employment options were limited, as jobs were often sorted by gender. Job openings in
industrial work were often filled with men. The few women that broke the mold and worked in
an industrial setting were more likely to be laid off or to experience wage reductions (page 573).
This seemed to be a common trend amongst other male driven careers. Although women with an
education could work their way into male driven professions like physicians, lawyers, engineers,
scientists, and corporate managers (page 493), most women found security being employed in
careers such as teaching, nursing and social work. Many social work job opportunities

Ballet Shot Analysis
Following this long shot we are shown a close up shot of Nina s foot, during this shot Nina is
practicing a fouettГ©. The purpose of this shot is to convey to the viewer how much pressure
Nina is placing on her body, in particular, her feet. A lot of ballet in danced en pointe (on the tip
of a person s toes), this sort of pressure can be detrimental to one s physical well being. A lot of
members in the audience will have prior knowledge of how painful and strenuous it can be to
place all of your body weight on just your toes, thus reinforcing to the audience the large amount of
pressure Nina is forcing upon herself.
The audience can also see the scuff marks on the floor, this effectively demonstrates just how
much time Nina dedicates to practicing at home. As an audience, we generally know from
personal experience and exposure that this is what wood looks like after it has been scratched

As I believe in marriage and everything about it, the couple must have time for each other or
they will end up only focusing on the kids and loose interest in each other. We see it often in the
headlines of famous people who get married, have kids and live a happy life, like the Obamas,
but on the other hand we see others like the Why Marriage Matters article states with Jon and
Kate. They were married, had eight kids, but ended up divorcing. It is very important that we
choose our mates carefully and realize that marriage is for the children and their stability but also
most importantly for the two people that love each other. Because I believe that people should
choose their mates carefully, work at it, and not get a divorce, is why I like Flanagan s ideas more
than Small s.
I have always believed that opposites attract, On the other hand, Small beliefs are that we are

How Is Catherine The Great Controlled Russia
Catherine the Great also known as Catherine II, (who was the most longest ruling female in Russia)
had ruled Russia form 1762 to 1796. During her time in throne, Catherine had made Russia a more
developed country in many different aspects. Catherine the Great had effected nobility, peasantry,
military, religion and taxes / government spendings. She controlled all of these aspects of Russiaand
these are the main reason why she is the absolute monarch.
Like i said Catherine controlled Russia nobility. Nobles were a class of people with high political
static and Catherine the Great had power over them. When Catherine was in throne the nobles
called it the Golden age of Russian nobility, this is because Catherine the great authorized a new
law that would free the nobles form compulsory military. She not only did that, she build many
mansions for them (and there were designed in western designs due to that that was the main style
back then). Finally Catherine wrote manuals for the education for the young noble girls and she

Periodontitis Research Paper
Introduction
Periodontitis is a gum disease that causes inflammation of the tissues that surround and anchor the
teeth to the bone. This inflammatory process is caused by plaque, a biofilm of bacteria, that
originate at the gingiva and extends into the connective tissue, alveolar bone and the outer surface
of the roots of the teeth. According to American Academy of Periodontology, there are several types
of periodontal disease which are identified based on the severity of the disease and the amount of
damaged tissue that s present at the time of the examination. Three major types are the Chronic
Periodontitis, the Aggressive Periodontitis and Necrotizing Periodontal Disease 1(194).

Periodontium is the structure that supports and holds a tooth in place, which consists of cementum,
the jaw bone, the periodontal membrane and the gingivae. When Porphyromonas gingivalis
attaches to salivary molecules, epithelial cells, matrix proteins, and teeth bacteria, it first colonizes
the sub gingival area and then extends deeper down to the root area. Binding of P.gingivalis to all
those substances is mediated by P. gingivalis fibrillin, the structural subunit of the major fimbriae.
To grow and reproduce, P.gingivalis requires hemin, the source of peptides and iron that are used
by the bacterium to produce five proteases and three hemagglutinins which are responsible for the
breakdown of the gingival tissue in periodontal disease. This produce inflammatory response which
is triggered by the host s immune response which in its turn leads to swelling of the gingivae and
the development of periodontal pockets around the tooth. After the pocket has been formed, more
bacteria enters these pockets causing more inflammation, periodontal abscess and bone eradication.
if left untreated, the tooth becomes loose and eventually falls out of its periodontal socket 3

  • 5. Malcolm Gladwell s Blink Can we know something without knowing how we know it? This is precisely the question that Malcolm Gladwell sets out to ponder in his book Blink: The Power of Thinking Without Thinking. Looking at scientific experiments from laboratories nation wide, Gladwell explores the fascinating phenomenon of thin slicing , or making snap judgments without consciously engaging in the decision making process. These thin slices , Gladwell asserts, are surprisingly accurate sometimes even more so than the decisions we make after long hours of careful consideration and reflection. One particularly interesting question raised by this study is the implications it brings to bear on the process of thought. Our brains, home to both our conscious and unconscious... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Gladwell calls for the acceptance of the notion that sometimes we can know something without knowing how we know it, and he criticizes American culture for demanding that all knowledge by logically justified and foot noted. But isn t Blink just this sort of endeavor? The books a whole strives to scientifically justify and foot note the process of the adaptive unconscious and thin slicing. • 6. Era Of Good Feelings The years following the War of 1812 and the Treaty of Ghent (1815 1825) have often been distinguished as the Era of Good Feelings. It refers to the American s victory in the War of 1812 and is generally marked as a period in political history that reflected a sense of national purpose and a desire for unity among Americans in the aftermath of the Napoleonic Wars. The period s nickname suggests that Monroe s years in presidency were marked by a spirit of nationalism, optimism, and goodwill. Although, the era of good feelings emerged with cultural and economic Nationalism along with the fading of the Federalist Party, peaceful foreign policies, and the implantation of the Monroe Doctrine, the perception of unity and harmony can be misleading... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Thomas Jefferson referred to the Missouri Compromise as the geographical line that would cause more irritation in America every time an issue environmentally came about (6). Although the Missouri compromise crated a new slave state in Missouri and a free one in Maine, this did not totally resolve the conflicts about allowing slavery in certain parts of the nation. Jefferson feared that the nation s perseverance would be affected due to this dividing line. Another contribution to the growth of political sectionalism was that from 1820 to 1824, the nation disbanded into multiple political groups (7). By the time the election of 1820 came to a close, James Monroe won most of the electoral votes, which showed that the people politically agreed on one person to run their nation. But overtime areas began to split into different groups; supporting different people with different ideas. Therefore, the increase in sectionalism began to grow. With people having different views politically, the period after the War of 1812 cannot be considered the Era of Good ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Single Sex School Why Single Sex School? Single sex schools are the best way of education and vital for our children in order for them to be taught in an environment that is away from distractions and to be more successful, focused and emotionally stable. There are several reasons which shows that single sex schools are important and why it s the best way for good education. The first reason is that boys and girls are not equal and develop at different times and speeds; therefore they should be taught separately. Acording to Gilbert (2007), Aacademic planners and school superintendents in the 1960 s had this foundamental assumption; they used to think that separate means unequal, so fearing that they would be unfair, provoking inequality and sexual ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The second reason why single sex schools are the way to go is that boys and girls distract each other from their education, especially in adolescence as their sexual and emotional sides develop. They spend too much time trying to impress or sexually harassing each other especially boys toward girls. Academic competition between the sexes is unhealthy and only adds to the unhappiness and anxiety among weaker students. As Trichia Kelleher, a school principle, argues rather than girls defining themselves by their interests, they define themselves by what the boys think of them or what other girls think boys think of them . Furthermore, John Silber (2002), President of Boston University, declared that his university would prioritize male applications in order to even up the student composition and ensure the male population did not become ungentlemanly towards women due to their numerical inferiority. John as a preident of Boston saw how females can be a sexual distraction towarad males in class rooms and tried to slove that by admitting more males to the university. A single sex environment is therefore a space where (children) can learn without feeling pressurized by the other sex. As odd it may sound, some people argues that children need to be exposed to the opposite sex in preparation for later life; this fact should be further evaluated and analysed logically. Nobody in this world comes without parents, and as children we can get ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 10. The Rainbow Fish By Marcus Pfiter In my final picture book read aloud, I am going to read The Rainbow Fish, by Marcus Pfister. The main element of craft that I am going to highlight are the illustrations. The illustrations play a very important role in this book because it catches the children s attention and helps bring the book to life. In The RainbowFish, a fish, named Rainbow Fish, has the most beautiful sliver scales that sparkle and shine (Pfister 4). However, Rainbow Fish is proud and selfish, and does not want to share his beautiful scales with the other fish (Pfister 8 11). So the other fish ignore Rainbow Fish and leave him all by his lonesome self (Pfister 11). Later on, Rainbow Fish gets some advice from the all knowing octopus (Pfister 14). The octopus tells Rainbow Fish that he will be happy if he shares all of his scales (Pfister 14 16). So Rainbow Fish takes his advice and shares all of his scales with all the other fish (Pfister 24). At the end, Rainbow Fish learns how to make friends by sharing his most prized scales (Pfister 27).... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 11. 12 Angry Men Movie Analysis Twelve Angry Men AnalysisBA 321 Reaching a unanimous vote, beyond a reasonable doubt, was a difficult task for the jurors represented in the film, 12 Angry Men. All but one were convinced the boy on trial was guilty of first degree murder based on eye witness testimony and circumstantial evidence. Uncomfortably hot and sweaty, one intent on getting to a ball game, eleven of the twelve jurors had no intention to stop and think about the life contingent on their verdict. The entire story was motivated by the reasonable doubt, communication competence, and persuasion of one man. The diversity issues explored in the film are most discernable in Jurors #3, #5, and #10. Juror #3 constantly explodes with bottled up anger, blinding him to the facts. Juror #5 shares his upbringing in a slum, identifying with the boy s struggle growing up in an underprivileged area in an abusive family. Juror # 10 is an unreasonable bigot whose prejudice ultimately demonstrates his lack of credibility. Even Juror #4, who was one of the last to concede, told Juror #10, now sit down and don t open your mouth again (Lumet, 1975). Eventually the biases among the group were overcome, as they made no contribution to determining innocence or guilt. The jury did achieve their goal to reach a unanimous decision, but it was not the original goal of each juror. There were clearly mixed feelings regarding the conclusion of their deliberation, including self awareness, reflection, and relief. A swift and undiscussed decision concerning the fate of the boy s life was an inappropriate approach for the jury. In the end, all of the jurors were satisfied with the verdict of not guilty, but for very different reasons. Reference: Lumet, S. (Director). (1957). 12 Angry Men [Motion ... • 13. Letter From Birmingham Jail In Letter from Birmingham Jail, Martin Luther King, Jr. refutes the condemnatory claims made by eight white Alabama clergymen. By appealing to ethos, logos, and pathos King argues that he is not an outsider and that the experience of African Americans in segregated Birmingham warrants well intentioned demonstration and civil disobedience. In doing so, he calls attention to the clergymen s hypocrisy and firmly garners their respect and understanding. Martin Luther King gains the clergymen s trust and belief by establishing his moral character through ethos. King first accomplishes this by employing a tone of respect. He addresses the clergymen in the beginning paragraph as men of genuine good will whose criticisms are sincerely set forth (6 7). This makes the clergymen feel that their integrity and their concerns are heavily valued. When King later denounces their beliefs and actions, they are more likely to accept it as King s effort to achieve understanding between the two groups rather than an attack on their personal characteristics. A reverent tone is further built with King s choice to refer to the clergymen as sirs (121), my Christian and Jewish brothers (175), and other honorifics throughout the letter. Even as his frustration escalates, using these titles compel the white clergymen to continue reading the arguments, believing the writer because the writer believes in their morality. • 14. Hunting Should Not Be Banned In a civilized and cultivated country, wild animals only continue to exist at all when preserved by sportsmen ( MARC FOLCO: Some hunting, fishing quotes to live by ). Hunters are the leading source for all conservation programs. Theodore Roosevelt was one of the most passionate hunters. People put down huntinglike it s a bad thing. Many hunters contribute billions of dollars the the economy. Hunting should not be banned because of the positive impacts it has on society. Through strictly regulated hunting we have reintroduced and repopulated various game species into areas where they were previously wiped out due to extremely excessive hunting by settlers. In the early 1900s all of Indiana s whitetail deerwere virtually extinct. By the 1930s whitetail deer were beginning to be reintroduced into Indiana. In just 20 years after initial reintroduction the population was at a sustainable level so that regulated modern hunting programs could begin. Conservationism has been a necessity to the ecology of the United States and many other countries around the world. The U.S. Forest Service by itself manages 193 million acres of public land nationwide or roughly 8% of the total land in the United States. The management of this land would not be feasible without the funding hunters provide through licenses, tags, and stamps. • 15. Effect Of Substrate Concentration On Enzyme Activity The Effect of Environmental Conditions on Enzyme Activity Ikram Hassan SBI3UW 02 November 13, 2017. Research Question: What is the effect of substrate concentration (as measured in % concentration) on the rate of enzyme activity (as calculated by the dividing the measured distance in cm, +/ 0.1 cm, travelled by a substance in a manometer by the time in seconds, +/ 0.5 seconds)? Background: A substrate is a molecule which is acted upon by an enzyme. For a chemical reaction to occur through enzyme, substrate molecules bind to the active site of an enzyme, which contains residues that catalyse the reaction of the substrate. Hypothesis: If the concentration of the substrate is increased, then the rate of enzyme activity will decrease. This is because as the concentration of the substrate increases, there is an increasing amount of occupied active sites at any given moment. This will cause a decrease in the rate of enzyme activity as substrate active site collisions are increasingly slowed down thus bringing down the rate of enzyme activity. Variables: Independent: Substrate Concentration: Throughout the experiment, the concentration of the substrate used will be increased in order to determine the effect of an increase of substrate concentration on enzyme activity. The substrate throughout the experiment will be a hydrogen peroxide solution and an original 30% concentration will be diluted with water into 10% and 5% concentrations in order to observe the effect of ... • 16. A Performance Analysis Of Tarry Flynn A Performance Analysis of Tarry Flynn Tarry felt he wasn t a Christian. His gods were in poetry, in the fields, in living things. Wayne Jordan s production on Tarry Flynn in The Lir on Monday 20th October, opened with an enactment of village commotion. Stylised swarms of characters entered and exited from every corner of the theatre in the round, each concerned with their own activity. As the rhythm, speed and energy climaxed Tarry Flynn enters and Mary Reilly is knocked off her bike. It later becomes clear that this symbolises her molestation. From the outset, Jordan displaces Tarry from the rest of the community. Jordan continues distancing Tarry throughout the play and particularly emphasises Tarry and the youth of Drumnay s detachment from the church. It is clear that Wayne Jordan s direction of Tarry Flynn conveys the clash of ideologies between the Catholic Churchand the youth of 1930 s rural Ireland. This essay will go on to analyse three examples in support of this. In the1930 s, Ireland was known as one of the most sexually repressed countries in the world. Ireland was a Catholic country, with over 90% of the population declaring themselves to be practising Catholics. The church was a potent social and political force. It dominated peoples lives and provided the ideological basis for this sexual repression. The ideology of the church was one of submission and dedication and was based on the Ten Commandments. • 17. Things Fall Apart Rhetorical Analysis Essay he narrative tone in the book Things Fall Apart is more indicative of an explanatory approach especially when describing the Igbo culture. The style of the diction suggests a familiarity with the subject that is not necessarily purposefully shown, but is evident in the way Achebe chooses his words and how he describes events throughout the book. Throughout the course of the book Achebe frequently uses African worlds and phrases to describe and show the different aspect of Igbo culture. The familiarity in, which the narrative focuses on the African language creates a sense of authenticity to the writing. What is unique about the narrative tone found within the book is that not only does the author frequently insert the african language within the diction, but the way he translates or explains the words in plain english so the readers who are unfamiliar with the language can still follow, for example: Agbala do o o o! It was a warrior s funeral, and from morning till night warriors came and went in their age groups. They all wore smoked raffia skirts and their bodies were painted with chalk and charcoal. With this much of the human population affected by such a terrible issue they must have a very strong will power to survive. The issue of povertyrequires people to endure certain circumstances which could be similar to the ones shown in Angela s Ashesby Frank McCourtor The Street by Ann Petry. McCourt demonstrates a mindset of survival by depicting a little boy stealing to provide for his starving family. Petry uses a single black mother in search of a new home while also facing a violent wind storm. The passages from Angela s Ashes by Frank McCourt and The Street by Ann Petry use characters, events, and settings to help prove the theme that when people are affected by poverty, they keep moving forward with the help of perseverance. While writing Angela s Ashes, Frank McCourt used characters, events, and setting to portray the theme that people who struggle with poverty require perseverance. First, McCourt uses the main character, Frank, to help support his theme. The narrator of the story explains that he has to do a lot to provide for his family when Frank thinks, I can t spend my whole life running around lifting lemonade from pubs (McCourt 10). This is significant because it shows that Frank and his family struggle with poverty which prevents them from being able to go out and buy food ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This man is a felon, and his right to vote has been taken away. Approximately 5.85 million Americans can t vote due to a felony charge (Newsy). Although it can be argued that felons have lost their privilege to vote, felon disenfranchisement has affected and still affects a disproportionate amount of people of color, takes out a huge voter block, and inhibits the rehabilitation process. Therefore, community members should sign petitions or contact senators to help felons regain their rights. Some sources believe felons should not be given the right to vote after having committed a felony, because voting is a privilege. Once people commit a felony, they lose this privilege. They also believe that since felons have committed a crime, they do not have the ability to make judgements in elections. If they made the judgement to commit a crime, they do not have the right mindset to make a judgement in an election. These sources believe that voting is a privilege, but voting is a right guaranteed to the American people. Felons, despite their past crimes, are still American citizens and they don t deserve to have their right taken away. Furthermore, the idea that felons are incapable of making judgements in politics because of their crimes is absurd. The components of the cryosphere include the following: sea ice, glaciers, ice sheets, ice shelves, snow cover, freshwater ice, and frozen groundwater. The cryosphere plays an important role in cooling the planet. The cryosphere, being ice, has a high albedo. The accepted albedo of ice in the cryosphere is .6 or 60%, meaning ice reflects 60% of incoming shortwave radiation. It is very likely that the experimental albedos were lower than the accepted albedo due to human error in measuring the incident illuminance and the reflected illuminance. The values for incident illuminance were higher than expected. They were likely skewed by the distance the light meter senor was held from the heat lamp. Further effort should be taken when repeating this method so that the experimental albedo accurately represents the accepted albedo. Northern Ireland Research Paper The Troubles was a time period of revolt and discrimination in Northern Ireland that lasted from the late 1960s until 1998, beginning with direct British involvement in Northern Ireland and formally ending with the Good Friday Agreement. However, it can be argued that the tension that persisted during The Troubles still exists today. The Troubles stemmed from the dissolution of a long period of peaceful tension between two political groups, the Nationalists and Unionists and by extension two major ethnic groups Irish Catholic and British Protestant. The Nationalists were predominantly Catholic and shared their religion with the Irish as such the Nationalists wanted Northern Irelandto remain part of Ireland and felt that Northern Ireland was an affront to their Irish heritage. However, they were a minority in Northern Ireland being about 33% of the population. Alternatively, the Unionists which were predominantly Protestant and were mostly immigrants or children of immigrants from England wanted Northern Ireland to properly establish itself as part of the United Kingdom and saw the Nationalists and Catholics as backwards people against the flow of progress. The Protestant portion of the population was a majority in Northern Ireland and through the Unionist party they established complete control, although not completely through their own efforts which were to simply overwhelm the Catholic minority. Minor traumatic brain injury (Mtbi) is the medical term used when there is a sudden onset but brief loss of cognitive function that occurs after a blow or other moderate trauma to the head that jars or shakes the brain inside the skull. Signs and Symptoms The signs and symptoms of a concussion can be very evident or it can subtle and may not be immediately apparent. Depending on the severity, Symptoms can last for days, weeks or even longer. Common symptoms after an Mtbi are headache, loss of memory (amnesia) and confusion. The Pros And Cons Of Open Border Policy Modern day America has put strict boundaries on immigration, but during the 18th and 19th centuries, an open immigration policy was encouraged and accepted. The concept of America as the land of dreamers and new beginnings is now lost due to recent border policies. An open border policy should be implemented in America as it upholds the Constitution, benefits the domestic and international economy, and maintains ethical standards for preserving human life. Border restrictions and confinements on migration put the very principles of the constitution at stake. Many proponents of closed borders utilize the Constitution s Foreign Commerce Clause , located in Article 1, to support their argument that Congress has been granted power over migration. According to Ilya Somin, a law professor at George Mason University, the clause supposedly gives Congress control over migration and border policies. Despite this supposition, the Foreign Commerce Clause is merely the realization of its name: it only grants Congress power over commerce between foreign entities. The term commerce implies economic transactions and consequently the movement of commodities, in this case, international movement of commodities. I Am A Male, Black, Asian, Upper Class, Lower Class Tall, short, skinny, fat, white, black, Asian, upper class, lower class, kind, strong, loveable, rich and famous, we all have our share of traits that we would like for our mate to possess. Do we really know what we want? Are we bias because of what society portrays or do we focus on what our culture has shown us. It has become common today to dismiss what our feelings and emotions tell us as it relates to love and marriageand go off of what society portrays. When it comes to the topic of mate choice/marriage and who we want to spend our life with or even have sex with, most of us would readily agree that as Meredith Small states in What s Love Got to Do with It, we are attracted to some people over others, drawn like a magnet in one... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As I believe in marriage and everything about it, the couple must have time for each other or they will end up only focusing on the kids and loose interest in each other. We see it often in the headlines of famous people who get married, have kids and live a happy life, like the Obamas, but on the other hand we see others like the Why Marriage Matters article states with Jon and Kate. They were married, had eight kids, but ended up divorcing. It is very important that we choose our mates carefully and realize that marriage is for the children and their stability but also most importantly for the two people that love each other. Because I believe that people should choose their mates carefully, work at it, and not get a divorce, is why I like Flanagan s ideas more than Small s. I have always believed that opposites attract, On the other hand, Small beliefs are that we are drawn to people who are similar to us and should marry someone who is just like we are. On page 153 she states, It makes evolutionary sense to bump into, marry, and make children with someone like yourself. Although I truly feel that my husband and I are totally opposite, I do agree that we probably have more in common than I truly realize. We have known each other since elementary school and have always worshiped together at the same church. So I would agree with the statement in What s love got to do with it that ... Prosthetics History Prosthetics: A History and Analysis of Their Impact Think of all the things that are taken for granted each and every day because of how accustomed the mind becomes to them; two legs for walking, two eyes from which to see, two ears from which to listen, and a mouth from which to talk. While these abilities may seem basic to most, they mean the world to those who lack these abilities. Thankfully, with advancements in technology and innovation, prosthesishave been introduced and continually improved to give everyone an equal chance at succeeding and enjoying life. Before diving into a brief history and analysis of prosthesis, it is important to take into account, what exactly is a prosthesis? It is defined as A device, either external or... This technology reenergizes the nerves from the amputated limb in a different part of the body. The amputee proceeds to think the action prompting these nerves to react, which then sends a message to the microprocessor in the robotic limb, which preforms the action. During her time in throne, Catherine had made Russia a more developed country in many different aspects. Catherine the Great had effected nobility, peasantry, military, religion and taxes / government spendings. She controlled all of these aspects of Russiaand these are the main reason why she is the absolute monarch. Like i said Catherine controlled Russia nobility. Nobles were a class of people with high political static and Catherine the Great had power over them. When Catherine was in throne the nobles called it the Golden age of Russian nobility, this is because Catherine the great authorized a new law that would free the nobles form compulsory military. She not only did that, she build many mansions for them (and there were designed in western designs due to that that was the main style back then). This inflammatory process is caused by plaque, a biofilm of bacteria, that originate at the gingiva and extends into the connective tissue, alveolar bone and the outer surface of the roots of the teeth. According to American Academy of Periodontology, there are several types of periodontal disease which are identified based on the severity of the disease and the amount of damaged tissue that s present at the time of the examination. Three major types are the Chronic Periodontitis, the Aggressive Periodontitis and Necrotizing Periodontal Disease 1(194). Causes and Symptoms There is a number of factors that cause ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Periodontium is the structure that supports and holds a tooth in place, which consists of cementum, the jaw bone, the periodontal membrane and the gingivae. When Porphyromonas gingivalis attaches to salivary molecules, epithelial cells, matrix proteins, and teeth bacteria, it first colonizes the sub gingival area and then extends deeper down to the root area. Binding of P.gingivalis to all those substances is mediated by P. gingivalis fibrillin, the structural subunit of the major fimbriae. To grow and reproduce, P.gingivalis requires hemin, the source of peptides and iron that are used by the bacterium to produce five proteases and three hemagglutinins which are responsible for the breakdown of the gingival tissue in periodontal disease. This produce inflammatory response which is triggered by the host s immune response which in its turn leads to swelling of the gingivae and the development of periodontal pockets around the tooth. After the pocket has been formed, more bacteria enters these pockets causing more inflammation, periodontal abscess and bone eradication. if left untreated, the tooth becomes loose and eventually falls out of its periodontal socket 3 ...
