Literary Elements In A P
Life is always about making important decisions that could change your life completely. Like the story
A P, Sammy made a huge decision to quit his job due to his boss being rude to three young girls
wearing bathing suits. John Updike used several literary elements to make the story stand out and for
people to relate to Sammy. The most important elements that is used in this story is setting, point of
view, and characters. Firstly, setting plays a crucial part of the story because of where and when the
story takes place. This story takes place around the 1950 s in the United States near Boston. In the
story, it read It s not as if we re on the Cape; we re north of Boston and there s people in this town
haven t seen the ocean for twenty years. (Updike) This quote demonstrates of why the locals in the
town where so upset to see the three young girls wearing only their bathing suits in the supermarket.
This also takes place in a much older generation that is not okay with people walking around with
revealing clothing. That is why Sammy s boss, Lengel was so upset with the ... Show more content on

A P is in first person perspective and is portrayed by Sammy the nineteen year old cashier. You can
easily tell that the point of view is based on a nineteen year old due to the first sentence. It reads In
walks these three girls in nothing but bathing suits. I m in the third check out slot, with my back to the
door, so I don t see them until they re over by the bread. (Updike) The way that Sammy is talking is
childish and someone that is in their thirties or older would not talk like that. John Updike made sure
to make Sammy of a mind of a nineteen year old. Another proof of that is I look around for my girls,
but they re gone, of course. There wasn t anybody but some young married screaming with her
children about some candy they didn t get by the door of a powder blue Falcon station wagon.

Naturalistic Observation On Door Holding Behavior
The door holding behavior of 63 young adults was observed as they walking through the doors of a
university dining hall. People entering or exiting the building were only considered participants of the
study if they had an opportunity to hold the door for a person behind them; those who walked through
the door without anyone behind them were excluded from the study. Informed consent was not
obtained from the participants.
Design
This naturalistic observation was conducted to observe the door holding behaviors performed by
young adults as a way to examine courteousness, or consideration of others.
Three possible behaviors were identified: Did Not Hold, Held Door, Stepped Aside. A coding of Did
Not Hold meant that the participant had the opportunity to hold the door for the person behind them,
but did not make any attempt to do so. Held Door was coded when a participant held his or her hand

Figure 1 shows the frequencies of each behavior.
The experimenter hypothesized that the Hold Door behavior would occur most frequently. The results
of the study support this hypothesis, as more than three fourths of the participants performed this
behavior. Researchers seeking to replicate this study should consider some of its limitations. Since
college students schedules vary, a more representative sample could have been obtained had the
observations taken place at several different times of day. Additionally, the fact that the study was
conducted at a dining hall may have affected the results, as it is possible that people who did not have
a campus meal plan were unintentionally excluded from the study. Recording door holding behaviors
at multiple different on campus locations may help to establish a more representative sample of adults

The Importance Of Obeying The Law
The fine line between obeying the law and not obeying it. Obeying the law kind of makes the world
safer. When you don t obey a law and therefore caught doing the crime; you will be charged and
possibly sentenced to a place where you are no longer free to do as you please. When you obey the
law you get to do as you please with your life as long as you follow the laws. Laws are put into motion
to create a safe environment for everyone to live in. No one should have to be worried about their
lives everyday; but there are accidents everyday in which lives are lost. When people aren t following
the law it doesn t mean that they are doing something that could harm someone; it could be something
that wouldn t have no harm no foul. When you don t follow every law it doesn t make you a bad
person. I don t believe everyone follows every law because there are too many laws that we don t
really know. Breaking a law that has done no harm doesn t make you a bad person. When we are born
their isn t an official or someone working for the government at the hospital with documents for you
to sign saying you re going to follow all the laws and if you don t there shall be consequences. When
we are born we are fully protected within the United States under all its all laws making it basically
not an option that your either going to follow them or not. In general there is no documents that we
need to sign saying we are going to follow every law. Basically we are just born into it and we

Catholic Vs Orthodox
Roman Catholic and Orthodox Church share many beliefs together. They both believe in the
sacraments, both venerate Mary as the mother of God, both believe that Jesus Christ was divine and
died for the sins of humanity and both believe in the Eucharist as the incarnation of Jesus Christ.
However, there are many main differences between them that they cannot agree on and unite as a
whole Christian church. Some of these differences include Authority and infallibility of the pope and
the Idea of Purgatory. One of the main differences between Catholic and Orthodox is the belief in the
Papacy. Papacy is the authority or the office that is held by a Pope. A Pope is the highest Bishop of
Rome who direct the Roman Catholic Church. So, according to

PERSONAL COMPUTER BUSINESS MODEL REVIEW
Qudus Deen
In the past, computer manufacturers such as Compaq and IBM assembled computers based on what
they had in their inventory. This necessitated maintaining a stock room for three to four months of
computer inventory in the distribution channel spending millions of dollars in holding cost. As
computers component cost steadily decreased with significant technology changes, keeping inventory
in stock over a long period became non beneficial. This led to delays in the delivery of new product
line to consumers. [1] The products sold by retailers meant more overhead cost before for the

A strategy they like to call Protect and Attack, making them the no. 1 market leader of PCs globally
with a market share of 20.6% as of 2016. Compaq suffered much from Dell s new business model,
leading to its acquisition by HP. Compaq relied much on reseller channels, so their criticism caused
Compaq to retreat from its proposed direct sales plan, although Capellas maintained that he would use
the middlemen to offer value added services. [3]
Compaq struggled as a result of the collapse of the Dot com bubble burst, which hurt sales of their
high end systems in 2001 and 2002, and they managed only a small profit in a few quarters during
these years. They also accumulated $1.7 billion in short term debt around this time. [4] The stock price

Organization Design in FMC Green River Essay
Organization Design in FMC Green River
Organization design is a formal, guided process for integrating the people, information and technology
of an organization. It is used to match the form of the organization as closely as possible to the
purpose of the organization. This design process seeks to improve and facilitate the efforts of members
within the organization. With respect to FMC Corporation s Green River, Wyoming facility, under the
guidance of this entity s site manager, Kenneth Dailey, the design should be approached as an internal

Therefore, a team was sent to the Aberdeen market in order to evaluate this plant s activities and
policies, in order to identify potential recommendations for Green River, since Aberdeen seemed to
continue to improve and excel within its market and in terms of its management and output.
In analyzing the ability of management of Aberdeen, one may note that this facility can be described
as laid back and easygoing. As begun with the initial Aberdeen plant manager, Bob Lancaster, then
proceeded by Jeff Bust and finally Roger Campbell, Aberdeen was managed as a family instead of a
simple work plant. As noted within Clawson s, Custom Business Resources, Aberdeen was built on
trust of every employee. Lancaster s view was to manage in a manner to eliminate fear in his
employees and instead increase productivity and potential beneficial risk taking, by organizing self
directing work teams, expecting the employees to assume and exercise responsibility and maintain
high standards of quality and service. Teams were created for every division with respective team
leaders elected to help manage the family. Management made their employees feel trusted and
implemented an almost self directed system with just the appropriate amount of upper level

The School to Prison Pipeline
Four kids, each under the age of 18 were sentenced as adults for 6 11 years in prison before DNA
evidence proved them all innocent. You all probably remember Trayvon Martin, who was walking
home, pursued by a neighborhood watch captain for having a suspicious appearance, and then fatally
shot. You might know of Philando Castile, who was pulled over for a broken tail light, and was also
shot by police while reaching for his ID, his death then broadcast live over facebook as he bled out.

Minimum sentencing combined with the war on drugs brought a scythe through the black
communities, literally cutting off men from their families, huge chunks just disappearing into the
prison systems for really long times. We re not only talking about fathers. We re talking about fathers
being put away with their sons with their brothers and with their cousins. So many broken families.
72% of African Americans have or are being raised by a single parent. So who is their positive role
model? It s not their mother, she s away all day working double shifts. Its not their father, he s in
prison. It s not their teachers, not only are they white but they are also teaching in impersonal over
crowded schools. Suddenly African American kids start looking up to gangbangers who have nice
cars, and nice clothes. This is why one in three African Americans born in 2001 can expect to go to
prison in their lifetime.
The odds are overwhelmingly stacked against African Americans. And because of this they feel a
sense of hopelessness for the future. As if there is nothing they could do to rise out of their realities.
And to a certain extent, this is true. Think about redlining. Think about the inequality in the
workplace. Think about unfair voting ratios between black and whites, diminishing the black voice.
Now combine this and the fact that African American

Essay on Examining Kurt Cobain s Personality
Personality theories attempt to identify the origins of personalty and examine how personality
develops. Throughout the history of psychology, different psychologists have offered various
personalities, each one contradicting some idea of the other. It is possible to examine personality using
multiple parts of different theories, while certain characters may be best described by one theory.
Although Kurt Cobain, a complex character, cannot possibly fit into any one personality theory
perfectly, parts of his personality can be explained using theories created by Alfred Adler and Carol
Rogers. Kurt Cobain was born on February 20, 1967, in Aberdeen, Washington. His mother Wendy
was a waitress and his father Donald was a mechanic. His ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Despite all the success, Cobain s heroin usage grew. He attempted suicide on March 4, 1994, but the
incident was deemed an accident. On April 7, 1994, Cobain shot and killed himself. He left a note to
his wife and daughter that ended I love you, I love you (personal communication, April 7, 1994). As a
child, Cobain s main influence was Evel Knievel, and he was determined to be reckless and fearless
like his hero. As Cobain grew older, however, his influences became primarily musical, and included
Neil Young, nicknamed the Godfather of Grunge, the Beatles, and various alternative bands
(DeRogatis, para. 8). His major accomplishments were his recordings, as Cobain was known as a
lyricist more than a musician, despite his short lived career. Cobain s personality fits rather easily into
Alfred Adler s theory of personality, especially in terms of style of life and birth order. Adler believed
that the individual creates the style of life, rather than being a victim of fate (Schultz Schultz, 2009, p.
137). He named four styles of life, dominant, getting, avoiding, and

Father Barry On The Waterfront Pigeons And Pigeons
The Transformations of Pigeons and Hawks On the Waterfront directed by Elia Kazan, is an award
winning, controversial film that portrays the symbols of hawks and pigeons. Pigeons are seen as weak
and fragile animals. Hawks, on the other hand, have eyes on the side of their head and see everything
around them. They are the birds on top of the food chain. Hawks may not be able to transform into
pigeons and pigeons may not be able to morph into hawks in the real world, but some characters prove
to be able to do the impossible. Father Barry is a character that demonstrates how one can spread his
weak pigeon wings and fly like a hawk. Contrarily, Johnny Friendly shows how one can begin leading
like a powerful hawk and subsequently lose their ability to hunt in an instant becoming a scared,
fragile pigeon. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Taliban And The Taliban Of Afghanistan
One of the most radical religious groups in the world today are known as the Taliban. The Taliban is a
fundamentalist Muslim group that controlled much of Afghanistan from 1996 to 2001 (Maley NP).
The Taliban took power after the Soviet Invasion of Afghanistan. When the Soviet Union left
Afghanistan, the Taliban rose to power and took much control of the country. The Taliban leader is
Mullah Mohammad Omar. The Taliban in Afghanistan are an Islāmic group, that uses harsh rules
against Afghanistan s women and helped attacked the United States.
The beginning of an Islāmic group started to take over Afghanistan in 1996, after the Soviet Union left
Afghanistan. This group is known as the Taliban. The Taliban s mission is to make an Islāmic
government in Afghanistan. The Taliban started with Islāmic students from Pakistan. Then in
September 1996 the Taliban seized control of Kabul (Afghanistan s capital) and carried out a strict
interpretation or explanation of Islāmic Law (Hayes NP). The Taliban killed the Afghan president,
Mohammed Najibullah in Kabul. That is when the Taliban took over Afghanistan. The Taliban
controlled 95% of Afghanistan. Then once the Taliban had taken over Afghanistan, they started
announcing their restrictions, that were harsh against women.
The Taliban s rules are strict and focus on Islam. There are a lot of restrictions against women. The

Topic Selection Microsoft recently unveiled its prototype, Surface, their version of a tablet or
alternative device to a personal computer. It is questionable how Microsoft, a known software
company, will be able to manufacture and sell a tablet device that is a contender in the marketplace
against devices such as the iPad. Thesis: It is critical that Microsoft produce a device that overcomes
the limitations of its competitors and adds features that set it apart, in order to define itself in the tablet
market.

Microsoft sees that Apple is world class in what they do. Microsoft has little choice but to do what
they must to make sure someone has world class hardware in the Windows camp. (Ray, 2012)
Microsoft has not had a competitor for the iPad since Apple released the original version in 2010.
Windows 8, which is to be available to consumers this fall, has been the company s hope to compete
against Apple s dominance in the tablet market. Apple sold 3 million of its new iPad s in the first three
days after its launch (Stern, 2012).
Along with determination, innovation, and advantages is the recognition that Microsoft can do some
very stupid and self defeating things. But the company has been in the tablet space for decades. In
fact, you could argue that one reason Apple knew what would work is because Microsoft did so much
of the advance work to eliminate what wouldn t. It may finally have gotten many of the mistakes out
of its collective system (Sherman, 2012). Ballmer said the company took its time with the tablets,
working quietly on its new machines to work out all the details. We took the time to get Windows 8
and Surface right, he said (Stern, 2012).
The company still faces big odds. Competing with itsown hardware partners could prove sticky, at
best. (Sherman, 2012) Sherlund

Fighting the War on Terrorism Essay
It has been said that the easiest way to discredit someone in the political field is to accuse them of
possessing Machiavellian morals. Until recently, today s political arena has been consumed by such
illusive and controversial topics as human rights and the environment. Thus, it is easy to see why
being referred to as a disciple of the austere Machiavellian principle could result in the untimely death
of a political career. However, as of September 11th, the times have changed and so should the
mindset with which politicians approach such elusive topics.

The logical, scientific, methodology behind his theories allows for concise, clear cut approaches in
management of state affairs. His infamous book on statecraft entitled, The Prince , is the embodiment
of Machiavellianism. This philosophy is centered on two main tenets. Primarily, that political order is
equivocal but entirely separate from any other known good including morality. Politics has and should
have it own rules and should not accept of any kind from any source where the object is not to win or
to prevail (Machiavelli, vii). In other words, It must find its inner laws, and free itself from
methodological dependence on theology, metaphysics, and moral philosophy (Parel, 5). All
extemporaneous theories and ideals not associated specifically with the perfection of political
application must be removed from the equation. The state must play God in order to secure the desired
outcome.
Secondly, Machiavelli asserts that One successfully governs by force and not by law (Machiavelli).
This is not to say that prudency should not also be simultaneously practiced. However, given the
anarchical nature of the international system, conventions and resolutions do not carry much, if any,

After receiving feedback from dog food brokers in the Boston, Massachusetts area, the executive team

Orpheus Compare Contrast
Orpheus and Eurydice, one of the more commonly known Greek myths, describes how Orpheus
attempts to use the power of music in order to retrieve his lover, Eurydice, from the Underworld.
Considered to be a classic, it has influenced many other works, such as the tale Izanagi and Izanami
from Genji Shibukawa s Tales from the Kojiki; the poem, Sir Orfeo; and the movie, What Dreams
May Come. Among them, these stories share the Orpheus motif, which means that they generally
contain, in some form, the elements of separated lovers, a glance backwards, and the significance of
art.
While the separation of lovers is a significant element of the Orpheus motif, the execution of and the
meaning behind the separation differs from story to story. In Orpheus ... Show more content on

In the myth of Orpheus and Eurydice, Orpheus is hailed as the most talented musician in the world.
His music draws people in and even has the power to bring inanimate beings to life. The extent of
Orpheus musical talent gives him a chance to save Eurydice. It was through his music that Hades and
Persephone empathize with his grief of losing Eurydice, as the tale states, Nor could the rigid king, or
queen of Hell / Th impulse of pity in their hearts repell (Garth, 4). Orpheus music would have allowed
him to overcome her death, reflecting his devoted love for Eurydice. Similarly, art in Sir Orfeo is
represented through Orfeo s harp playing, which grants him the favor of the Fairy King, allowing him
to reunite with Heurodis. Additionally, his musical talent indirectly allows him to retake his throne by
granting him an audience with the ruler of the kingdom he left behind. When Orfeo approaches the
steward, who he had given the throne to, the steward welcomes him with, Of that ichave, thou schalt
have some. / Everich gode harpour is welcom me to / For mi lords love, Sir Orfeo (Tolkien, 516 18).
In Sir Orfeo, music can be seen as a form of power and recognition. His harp playing allows Orfeo to
save Heurodis and gain his kingdom back in the end. However, music is not the only form of art
represented in the Orpheus motif stories. For instance, in Izanagi and Izanami, art is presented in the
form of literal creation, which stems from the love between the two lovers. Tragically, this art is also
what leads to the death of Izanami, when, at the birth of Katgutsuchi no Kami, the deity of fire, an
unseen misfortune befell the divine mother (Shibukawa, 8). The death of Izanami from childbirth
implies that death has a direct relationship with art since the presence of creation is accompanied by
the presence of destruction. By contrast, in What Dreams

The Political Ideology That Best Represents My Views
The political ideology that best represents my views is liberalism. Liberalism is an ideology that
emphasizes, cultural diversity, government programs for the needy, public intervention in the
economy, and individuals rights to a lifestyle based on their own social and moral positions (Morone
Kersh, 2014, p. 37). In other words, liberalism promotes government assistance for individuals in need
as well as protect every individual s rights.
One aspect of my life that has shaped my political views is my religious background. I grew up in a
Baptist family, and used to go to church regularly. As I got older, I started going to church less and less
because the things my pastor said made me feel very uncomfortable. At the time, I did not understand
why I felt so uncomfortable and it was not until I got older that I realized why I felt the way I did.
Majority of the time, my pastor said things that had sexist and homophobic undertones. Despite being
in a holy place, I spent the duration of my time as a member of the church feeling disconnected from
everything, which eventually led to me breaking ties with the church completely.
My family s financial background also helped in shaping my views. When I was younger, my family

Keystone Pipeline Essay
There has been much controversy over whether or not to build the Keystone XL pipeline that would
connect Canadian Alberta oil fields to refineries in Texas. The proposed pipeline, which would be built
by TransCanada, would connect two existing pipes, consisting total of around 1,700 miles of pipeline.
The two sides of this argument can be roughly boiled down to two words: environment and economy.
In such turbulent times can Americans afford to pass up a so called shovel ready project that would
create jobs and cut dependence on foreign oil from unfriendly places, or, as some would claim, is the
risk of environmental mayhem too great? There is much dispute between both sides on the actual facts
of the project, and a surprising amount of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The lowest estimate seems to be at 100 temporary jobs created, according to president of the NRDA
Frances Beinecke, while the highest of such estimates seems to be at around 1,000,000 jobs created
according to Governor Rick Perry. Let s discard both of these numbers, they are for our purposes
useless. We should instead focus on the number that recurrences, the most which lies at around 20,000
jobs, but where did that number come from? TransCanada itself issued a statement that said it is
poised to put 13,000 Americans to work to construct the pipeline pipefitters, welders, mechanics,
electricians, heavy equipment operators, among other jobs in addition to 7,000 manufacturing jobs
that would be created across the U.S. TransCanada also cites another figure 118,000 spin off jobs that
Keystone XL would create through increased business in local restaurants, hotels and suppliers that
comes from a study commissioned by the corporation. The study even suggested that under normal oil
price assumptions, the number of permanent jobs would top 250,000. There should be an amount of
more permanent jobs associated with the pipeline, such as gauge readers, emergency crews and
maintenance workers that the pipeline will support over its forty five

Of Aristotle And Hobbes Ideas About The Origin And Purpose...
Aristotle and Hobbes Ideas about the Origin and Purpose of Political Life
From the very ancient times political life was formed by groups of people who were having different
thoughts and ideas about how to rule or how to control others and their properties. As long as that
happened, the differences had led to misunderstanding and chaos among the tribes and as now called
politics. Each political community formed, a different problem came to life. All this was a way to
undercover the best ways of ruling and leading others in places all around the world. The first place
that appeared to be like a political community was households. Then it turned to bigger and stronger
establishments that human being had never thought of before. One of the structures which was formed
and led to different notions was government, and it is the structure by which a country, ... Show more

Reflective Essay On Culture
According to Sellnow et al., culture is the system of shared values, beliefs, attitudes, and norms that
guide what is considered appropriate among identifiable group of people (44). Culture involves why
we believe in certain things and why we act certain ways. There are many different kinds of cultures
that an individual may have. There are even groups that can be formed called co cultures that derive
from these bigger cultures. Co culture is a group comprised of a smaller number of people who hold
common values, beliefs, attitudes, and customs that differ from those of the dominant culture (Sellnow
et al. 45). For the interview I conducted, I chose someone who had a different culture than I do. My
interviewee was from Costa Rica, and comes from a Spanish culture. I was born in Ohio, and come
from a one hundred percent American culture. The first difference in our cultures that I wanted to
identify were the foods that we eat for our meals. The second difference involved some of the things
that are different in our cultures, like how we greet people or the ways we celebrate. One could even
take this further into calling them norms which are expectations for the way group members are to
behave (Sellnow et al., 177). Lastly, I asked questions about the obvious difference in our cultures,
which would be the different languages that we speak. The first question I asked my interviewee was

The Authority Of Faith In Cormac Mccarthy
Despite his emphasis on the father s unrestricted love for his son, Cormac McCarthy persistently
reminds the reader of the novel s dire surroundings through his introduction of malevolent characters,
and the use of a disheartened setting thus conveying his bleak suspense for the future of civilization
and cracking light on humanity s naive nature. The man, ( Wilson) as McCarthy like to call our
mysterious fellow in the book. McCarthy never reviles his full name to anyone.Unqualified maternal
love between father and son. The theme among a son and father is appearing, altruistic as together the
characters the role of conqueror. Humanity survival, hope the encouragement of the moral and wicked,
the authority of faith can be seen throughout the novel in different characters presentations. While
McCarthy s novels share Dewey s broadly anti supernatural and anti ecclesiastical commitments, there
are some areas of divergence between the two that allow us to reflect critically on the distinction
between religion and the religious. ( Metcalf) Survival was used the father and son to stay alive. The
fire in the road is also very significant because deprived of it the boy and his father would
undoubtedly have frozen to death. The fire signifies refinement and triumph.
The novel offerings the bibliophiles with measures that characterize the actions that make unpredicted
devastation so dangerous and violent. Representative criticism works from a subjective basis, it is
used to determine and grasp the philosophies of common truths memoranda through literary work.
The perfect verities and communications are determined by identifying patterns like character types,
narratives, settings, symbols. The narrative account associates with representative criticism is the

they seek out shelter in the southern coast of America to avoid the in the near future the winter and

Carbon Monoxide Chemistry
Carbon Monoxide gas is odorless, colorless, tasteless
Carbon Monoxide is often a result of incomplete combustion which occurs when molecules such as
hydrocarbons do not completely undergo combustion due to lack of oxygen.
Carbon Monoxide poisoning is extremely difficult to diagnose because its symptoms are similar to
other common illnesses such as a common flu and migraines.
Symptoms following acute exposure include headaches, dizziness, nausea, vomiting and chest pain
Symptoms following long term exposure include cerebral edema (buildup of excessive fluid causing
swelling in the brain), convulsions (seizures), and difficulty in breathing and coordinating.
Common Sources of Carbon Monoxide include faulty furnaces, gas stoves, and motor ... Show more

Ligand is an ion or molecule which bonds to the central atom or ion of a compound.
Pi backbonding for carbon monoxide is heavily depended on the fact that the carbon in carbon
monoxide has a negative formal charge thus when it bonds with the Fe+2 ion, the negative charge is
relieved.
Since the formal charges on the oxygen atoms in an oxygen molecules are zero, this makes oxygen an
inferior ligand in comparison to carbon monoxide which is a superior ligand.
Due to the formal charges of oxygen, pi backbonding plays a very minor role in the bonding of
oxygen to hemoglobin thus making the bond substantially weaker than that of carbon monoxide and
hemoglobin.
Essentially, our bodies inability to break the bond between hemoglobin and carbon monoxide is what
makes it poisonous as it prevents oxygen from functioning in its optimal manner.
The only known biological process that produces carbon monoxide is when the enzyme Heme
Oxygenase is used to catalyze the breakdown of the heme group in hemoglobin.
As carbon monoxide (initial reactant) enters the body the concentration of it increases therefore
increasing the rate of reaction and producing more

Signs Of Dementia Essay
Dementia is an acquired syndrome resulting from brain damage or disease. Two types of dementia are
primary and secondary dementia. Primary dementias are disorders in which the dementia alone is the
major sign of a biological brain disease, for example Alzheimer s disease. Secondary dementias result
from some other recognizable disease, such as multiple sclerosis. In having dementia, memory
domains, and possibly language, judgement, abstract thinking, and/or executive thinking deteriorate
progressively in severity until death. This differentiates dementia from other cognitive disorders such
as delirium, age related memory decline, or toxicity, all of which are temporary, treatable, or

Noise Sensitivity Essay
For many people, noises in the environment may not be an annoyance, but for others who are noise
sensitive it can have several numbers of negative effects. There are some cause effects such as
difficulties concentrating in the classroom, at work, and/or personal life. It can also go as far as
causing internal organs damage. For example, the learning process of a child facing this disorder could
be more difficult, according to Tremmel a child s brain has to work overtime in a noisy classroom to
do its typical, but, very important job of distinguishing sounds whose subtle differences are the key to
success with language and reading . Even though, from early age people learn how to localize and
identify different sounds that will help them throughout their life, there are some people that suffer
from noise sensitivity and it can make their life a bit hard, because certain functions of their brain can
be affected. Noise Sensitivity (NS) is a physiological and psychological internal state in which the
noise level of certain things can be uncomfortable for an individual in doing their daily tasks. In the
research paper by Kliuchko, et al. (2016), he states that the human ear and brain come together to
adapt to the acoustic environment and that the auditory cortex can adapt in a way that can be tolerated
for each individual . In another study done by Dr. Schnupp s from the research team at the University

Football And Pop Culture
As Americans, we all have multiple perspectives on life and what it brings to the table. We have our
opinions on what we think is the most common pop culture to man. Although there are many, there is
one thing that all Americans can probably agree on and cannot argue about, well, sometimes. In my
opinion, football would be the sport that most of the population can relate to while it brings everyone
together as it has for many generations. It plays a huge role in popularity; therefore, football has made
the name for itself as the most popular American sport across the nation. It is a common characteristic
in everyday lives and it will continue to live on and prosper through many generations to come. I have
learned how football is one of the most common, classic characteristic of American culture over the
years and my story behind my knowledge can tell it all. I would like to start off and say that we could
come up with many different characteristics that are common to American culture. Instead of naming
them all, we can oversee why American football is clearly one of them within people across the
nation. With it being a very high demanding sport in pop culture, I would like to say that people across
the nation can familiarize themselves more with football rather than other sports; for example,
basketball, softball, or even baseball. Whether it is a Friday night high school football game under the
lights, an exciting Saturday for college level, or a relaxing Sunday watching

Colonial Relationship Between Australia And South Africa
Before European and Dutch settlers came across the Cape of Good Hope in 1652, there
were many different tribes, dialects, and people that inhibited South Africa. Meant to serve as a

its abundance in gold, diamonds and trade route friendly location. By 1662, hundreds of white
people lived in what was beginning to look like a developing colony. At the end of the century,
immigration law was being heavily pushed which in turn forced independent farmers away from

According to your belief, because quality is not definable and is is not based on pure transcendental
knowledge, it is false. Nevertheless, I will attempt to explain to you where your principles seem to fall
short. Quality is scientifically immeasurable and therefore cannot or must not be defined. However
this does not mean it doesn t exist or that it cannot be justified. I now invite you to picture a world
where good and bad has been removed. On the principles of realism, a thing exists of a world cannot
function without it normally . I will attempt to show you the way in which this principle applies to the
existence of quality. A world without good and bad would be meaningless and without purpose. Art,
sports, dance, comedy, flavor, in fact all that relies on the senses would be ruined. The masses would
not be able to tell what was good from bad, funny from boring, bland from savory; life would be
utterly boring. Although the world can function without quality it clearly cannot function normally,
therefore, quality indeed exists regardless if it is defined or not. In fact Quality is what makes up
reality, it is the parent of knowledge, the source of all subjects and objects.

There is no technology and David describes the world as someone in the 18th century would see it,

formed while reading the novel. Grass between the toes, the nuclear wastes, the way the children

fresh air, clean and smooth. There are no frilly edges and there is no attempt by the author to make the
book flashy. This makes the book pure and adds to the impact of the story. As an overview, there are a

a point in the book... no one has memories of it). Their society is strongly anti mutant with a very
strict set of rules as to what is normal and what isn t. All of this children are normal looking but are

Julian s real life characteristics derive solely from her unique visions from her Revelations of Divine
Love, her recovered major work. Chapter three of Julian s Revelations could be considered one of the
most major chapters compared to the others because it includes one of the most important pieces of
information. Since there is a lack of information on her life, one can read and derive biographical
details about her through this chapter. Her recounts are what she is mainly known for thus setting her
aside from the others. Julian s retelling of what happened during the last day of a span of the seven
days of sickness is in this chapter. And when I was thirty year old and a half, God sent me a bodily
sickness in the which I lay three days and three nights... (Julian of Norwich 414). A comparison can be
made between the seven days it took for Julian to recover and the seven days it took God to create the
world. This may or may not be considered a coincidence but can be recognized because of the
religious aspects of her life and writings. Closure is found in Julian by the bodily sickness ending on
the seventh day and the completion is found in God s creating of the earth. Other religious elements in
this chapter include the wounds of Christ. The footnote in this chapter states that Julian had prayed for

how the West was colonizing and industrializing his country, and set life to a new sort of technique

His techniques revolved around passive and calm responses instead of wild and violent responses to

An Occurence at Owl Creek Bridge and The Necklace
People always like to impute all the misfortunes they have been through to their unfair destinies.
However, most of the occurrences happen in the human society is not random, and every consequence
must have a corresponding reason. Sometimes, the motive of one s action is hard to find because it
may be psychogenic reasons that hide deep in one s mind. Sigmund Freud comes up the idea that
human beings are motivated, even driven, by desires, fears, needs, and conflicts of which they are
unaware (Tyson 14 15). In most of the literature works, narrators unconscious egos like desires and
believes are often the most important factors to affect their behaviors and cause the consequential
narrative events happen. Both of protagonists in the articles, Peyton Farquhar in Ambrose Bierce s An
Occurrence at Owl Creek Bridge and Madame Loisel in Guy de Maupassant s The Necklace, are
struggled with their identities, and suffered from the delusions caused by their egos, which lead
themselves to make the irretrievable mistakes, and finally, they fall to the fantasies again to defend the
consequences caused by their mistakes.
Both of the protagonists are not satisfied with their current identities, their desires blind their minds,
and make them easily fall into unrealistic delusions. In the An Occurrence at Owl Creek Bridge, in
order to create suspense, Bierce does not mention the narrator s identity until Part II. He describes

Current market segments of Tesla China are generally based on income level and an added up function
of technology savviness. Such market segment pattern can be easily seen through Tesla s development
track in China and its technological centric product strategy. The characteristic of such market
segments is quite straight forward, much resembles the characteristic of Tesla Motors itself. Under the
new market outlook, however, it can hardly afford to ignore the lower income fan base which would
have a huge positive promotional effect for Tesla brand.
With a large customer base and the Chinese government pushing force, would not be difficult for Tesla
to educate the unaware mass market of its concept and technological advances. This will create a
strong social stream which might influence its potential customers. The lower income segments could
also serve as a good customer base for the much anticipated Model 3.

promoting its brand. Although word of mouth is one of the most credible ways of advertising, its

no different. For example, the Toronto Blue Jays generate an extra $600,000 for every cent the
exchange rate goes up (Exchange). In the future. the exchange rate between Canada and the US is
predicted to help the Canadian sports teams. Experts can predict with accuracy how exchange rates
will change up to two years in advance(Campbell). This allows sports teams to plan for the gap
between American dollar salaries and Canadian dollar revenues. When the exchange rate is in favor of
the Canadian dollar, more money is available to teams. This allows them to spend more on player
salaries, possibly making their teams better without having to worry as much about revenue. For teams
who are very successful in recent years, such as the Toronto Blue Jays, the exchange rate becomes less
of an issue. Even though they chose to spend more money on player salaries, the team has performed
so well that the fan loyalty and interest has gone up enough to cover the costs. The exchange rate can
also impact teams negatively. One example is the Winnipeg Jets. They eventually had to relocate to
Arizona because they could not create enough revenue selling in Canadian dollars. The Vancouver
Canucks faced a similar problem in 2002. They played their players a total of $62 million US which
exchanges to $81 Canadian. This left the team with $19 million Canadian dollars to be made up
through other ways. The NHL is the 99th most profitable business in Canada (Maich) and therefore is
highly impacted by the exchange rate. Canadian sports teams will have to make a choice between
paying their players less money or pay them more but find new ways to bring in money in order

Egoism Vs Altruism Essay
The ethical debate between Egoism and Altruism was extremely interesting to read about. I truly had
an aha moment because this debate is a topic that is rarely tackled or approached from the perspective
that being selfish is not a bad thing. At first, I thought this argument against altruism was insane,
however, once I tried to think of examples that prove its insanity I thought of nothing. This is when I
came to the conclusion that yes, whether its selfishness or selflessness, both have different meanings
to different people. Laurena Becker, in her article Encyclopedia of Ethics, mentioned that one of the
definitions for selflessness is a regard for the well being of others for its own sake (35). I believe this
is the definition that most people refer to. For example, when we think about a sister staying up all
night to take care of her younger sibling whose sick, we tend to say aww, she s so sweet and selfless .
However, can we even say that a sibling is selfless for taking care of her own sibling? A part of me
views that as being her job as an older sister while another part of me also views this as being a kind
gesture; and in actuality it may be a little bit of both. This aspect interferes with Rand s statement, in
the book Objectively ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For instance, not letting someone take advantage of you or your resources and choosing to focus on
your wellbeing instead is a good thing. I believe that if someone donates clothes to the homeless, even
if it s with the intentions of feeling better about one s self, isn t necessarily unethical because no harm
is being done. The person is not only going to feel more satisfied with themselves but would also be
doing those who are less fortunate a favor. Although this may seem a bit heartless, but it s true if one
simply takes into consideration the consequences of one s actions rather than their intents (although
Rand would say the

  • 2. Literary Elements In A P Life is always about making important decisions that could change your life completely. Like the story A P, Sammy made a huge decision to quit his job due to his boss being rude to three young girls wearing bathing suits. John Updike used several literary elements to make the story stand out and for people to relate to Sammy. The most important elements that is used in this story is setting, point of view, and characters. Firstly, setting plays a crucial part of the story because of where and when the story takes place. This story takes place around the 1950 s in the United States near Boston. In the story, it read It s not as if we re on the Cape; we re north of Boston and there s people in this town haven t seen the ocean for twenty years. (Updike) This quote demonstrates of why the locals in the town where so upset to see the three young girls wearing only their bathing suits in the supermarket. This also takes place in a much older generation that is not okay with people walking around with revealing clothing. That is why Sammy s boss, Lengel was so upset with the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... A P is in first person perspective and is portrayed by Sammy the nineteen year old cashier. You can easily tell that the point of view is based on a nineteen year old due to the first sentence. It reads In walks these three girls in nothing but bathing suits. I m in the third check out slot, with my back to the door, so I don t see them until they re over by the bread. (Updike) The way that Sammy is talking is childish and someone that is in their thirties or older would not talk like that. John Updike made sure to make Sammy of a mind of a nineteen year old. Another proof of that is I look around for my girls, but they re gone, of course. There wasn t anybody but some young married screaming with her children about some candy they didn t get by the door of a powder blue Falcon station wagon. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Naturalistic Observation On Door Holding Behavior The door holding behavior of 63 young adults was observed as they walking through the doors of a university dining hall. People entering or exiting the building were only considered participants of the study if they had an opportunity to hold the door for a person behind them; those who walked through the door without anyone behind them were excluded from the study. Informed consent was not obtained from the participants. Design This naturalistic observation was conducted to observe the door holding behaviors performed by young adults as a way to examine courteousness, or consideration of others. Three possible behaviors were identified: Did Not Hold, Held Door, Stepped Aside. A coding of Did Not Hold meant that the participant had the opportunity to hold the door for the person behind them, but did not make any attempt to do so. Held Door was coded when a participant held his or her hand on ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Figure 1 shows the frequencies of each behavior. The experimenter hypothesized that the Hold Door behavior would occur most frequently. The results of the study support this hypothesis, as more than three fourths of the participants performed this behavior. Researchers seeking to replicate this study should consider some of its limitations. Since college students schedules vary, a more representative sample could have been obtained had the observations taken place at several different times of day. Additionally, the fact that the study was conducted at a dining hall may have affected the results, as it is possible that people who did not have a campus meal plan were unintentionally excluded from the study. Recording door holding behaviors at multiple different on campus locations may help to establish a more representative sample of adults in the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. The Importance Of Obeying The Law The fine line between obeying the law and not obeying it. Obeying the law kind of makes the world safer. When you don t obey a law and therefore caught doing the crime; you will be charged and possibly sentenced to a place where you are no longer free to do as you please. When you obey the law you get to do as you please with your life as long as you follow the laws. Laws are put into motion to create a safe environment for everyone to live in. No one should have to be worried about their lives everyday; but there are accidents everyday in which lives are lost. When people aren t following the law it doesn t mean that they are doing something that could harm someone; it could be something that wouldn t have no harm no foul. When you don t follow every law it doesn t make you a bad person. I don t believe everyone follows every law because there are too many laws that we don t really know. Breaking a law that has done no harm doesn t make you a bad person. When we are born their isn t an official or someone working for the government at the hospital with documents for you to sign saying you re going to follow all the laws and if you don t there shall be consequences. When we are born we are fully protected within the United States under all its all laws making it basically not an option that your either going to follow them or not. In general there is no documents that we need to sign saying we are going to follow every law. Basically we are just born into it and we ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Primarily, that political order is equivocal but entirely separate from any other known good including morality. Politics has and should have it own rules and should not accept of any kind from any source where the object is not to win or to prevail (Machiavelli, vii). It was through his music that Hades and Persephone empathize with his grief of losing Eurydice, as the tale states, Nor could the rigid king, or queen of Hell / Th impulse of pity in their hearts repell (Garth, 4). Orpheus music would have allowed him to overcome her death, reflecting his devoted love for Eurydice. Similarly, art in Sir Orfeo is represented through Orfeo s harp playing, which grants him the favor of the Fairy King, allowing him to reunite with Heurodis. Additionally, his musical talent indirectly allows him to retake his throne by granting him an audience with the ruler of the kingdom he left behind. When Orfeo approaches the steward, who he had given the throne to, the steward welcomes him with, Of that ichave, thou schalt have some. / Everich gode harpour is welcom me to / For mi lords love, Sir Orfeo (Tolkien, 516 18). In Sir Orfeo, music can be seen as a form of power and recognition. His harp playing allows Orfeo to save Heurodis and gain his kingdom back in the end. However, music is not the only form of art represented in the Orpheus motif stories. For instance, in Izanagi and Izanami, art is presented in the form of literal creation, which stems from the love between the two lovers. Tragically, this art is also what leads to the death of Izanami, when, at the birth of Katgutsuchi no Kami, the deity of fire, an unseen misfortune befell the divine mother (Shibukawa, 8). Ligand is an ion or molecule which bonds to the central atom or ion of a compound. Pi backbonding for carbon monoxide is heavily depended on the fact that the carbon in carbon monoxide has a negative formal charge thus when it bonds with the Fe+2 ion, the negative charge is relieved. Since the formal charges on the oxygen atoms in an oxygen molecules are zero, this makes oxygen an inferior ligand in comparison to carbon monoxide which is a superior ligand. Due to the formal charges of oxygen, pi backbonding plays a very minor role in the bonding of oxygen to hemoglobin thus making the bond substantially weaker than that of carbon monoxide and hemoglobin. Essentially, our bodies inability to break the bond between hemoglobin and carbon monoxide is what makes it poisonous as it prevents oxygen from functioning in its optimal manner. The only known biological process that produces carbon monoxide is when the enzyme Heme Oxygenase is used to catalyze the breakdown of the heme group in hemoglobin. As carbon monoxide (initial reactant) enters the body the concentration of it increases therefore increasing the rate of reaction and producing more ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

There are some cause effects such as difficulties concentrating in the classroom, at work, and/or personal life. It can also go as far as causing internal organs damage. For example, the learning process of a child facing this disorder could be more difficult, according to Tremmel a child s brain has to work overtime in a noisy classroom to do its typical, but, very important job of distinguishing sounds whose subtle differences are the key to success with language and reading . Even though, from early age people learn how to localize and identify different sounds that will help them throughout their life, there are some people that suffer from noise sensitivity and it can make their life a bit hard, because certain functions of their brain can be affected. In my opinion, football would be the sport that most of the population can relate to while it brings everyone together as it has for many generations. It plays a huge role in popularity; therefore, football has made the name for itself as the most popular American sport across the nation. On the principles of realism, a thing exists of a world cannot function without it normally . I will attempt to show you the way in which this principle applies to the existence of quality. In the future. the exchange rate between Canada and the US is predicted to help the Canadian sports teams. Experts can predict with accuracy how exchange rates will change up to two years in advance(Campbell). This allows sports teams to plan for the gap between American dollar salaries and Canadian dollar revenues. When the exchange rate is in favor of the Canadian dollar, more money is available to teams. This allows them to spend more on player salaries, possibly making their teams better without having to worry as much about revenue. For teams who are very successful in recent years, such as the Toronto Blue Jays, the exchange rate becomes less of an issue. Even though they chose to spend more money on player salaries, the team has performed so well that the fan loyalty and interest has gone up enough to cover the costs. The exchange rate can also impact teams negatively. One example is the Winnipeg Jets. They eventually had to relocate to Arizona because they could not create enough revenue selling in Canadian dollars. The Vancouver Canucks faced a similar problem in 2002. They played their players a total of $62 million US which exchanges to $81 Canadian. This left the team with $19 million Canadian dollars to be made up through other ways. • 41. Egoism Vs Altruism Essay The ethical debate between Egoism and Altruism was extremely interesting to read about. I truly had an aha moment because this debate is a topic that is rarely tackled or approached from the perspective that being selfish is not a bad thing. At first, I thought this argument against altruism was insane, however, once I tried to think of examples that prove its insanity I thought of nothing. This is when I came to the conclusion that yes, whether its selfishness or selflessness, both have different meanings to different people. Laurena Becker, in her article Encyclopedia of Ethics, mentioned that one of the definitions for selflessness is a regard for the well being of others for its own sake (35). I believe this is the definition that most people refer to. For example, when we think about a sister staying up all night to take care of her younger sibling whose sick, we tend to say aww, she s so sweet and selfless . However, can we even say that a sibling is selfless for taking care of her own sibling?
