2. Beginning In The Eighties And Nineties, We Entered A New
Beginning in the eighties and nineties, we entered a new world of big hair and bad style; although,
in the technological realm, there were tape players, Walkman s, VCR s, and fresh on the market:
personal computers. Steve Jobs, Steve Wozniak, and Ronald Wayne s creation of the Apple soon
began dominating the computerera with their introduction of the Lisa computer. But not for long,
soon computer technology increased to unimaginable heights. As I grew up the in the nineties the
technology around me continued to grow and advance quite rapidly I may add. The technology
we use today, helps further advance us as people, and to help push products out the door like it has
never before. Technology is advancing and it s up to us and our future... Show more content on

Millennials have been raised up on things like smartphones, drones, and advanced computers,
but do we really know what we are doing, or are we just skimming the surface? Caroline Beaton
a blogger for the Huffington Post writes Millennials were born after the invention of windows,
so we ve never known life or work without them (Beaton). This is important for moving into a
more technologically diverse society, but there is still concern for what new jobs will open with
the emergence of more technology and machines. Beaton goes on by stating in her research In
other words, as Carr observed, we ll have to become more like computers ourselves: quick,
efficient task executors in order to keep our position(s) (Beaton). Marguerite McNeal author of the
article Rise of the Machines, notes that, The robots haven t just landed in the workplace they re
expanding skills, moving up the corporate ladder, showing awesome productivity and retention
rates, and increasingly shoving aside their human counterparts. One multi tasker bot, from
Momentum Machines, can make (and flip) a gourmet hamburger in 10 seconds and could soon
replace an entire McDonald s crew. A manufacturing device from Universal Robots doesn t just
solder, paint, screw, glue, and grasp it builds new parts for itself on the fly when they wear out or
bust. And just this week, Google won a patent to start building worker robots with personalities

3. A Reflection On My Personal Experience
ISS Reflection Paper I would never aspire to be king because it is much more interesting to be
the king maker. This is my informed judgment based on the sufficiency of my experience and the
intrinsic value I derive from analytical and creative problem solving processes. I opine Strategic
Advisor and Communicator are synonymous with my definition of king maker, both roles I have
experience and some success with. Nevertheless, I am fortunate to have many years of experience
to reflect on and guide this self assessment. Accordingly, I begin this self assessment by reflecting
on a seemingly random event that shaped my attitudes, values, and ethics, and led to important
changes in my personal life. Once armed with these insights, I will... Show more content on

experience and some success executing the mission specific competencies of a Strategic Advisor

cultural awareness, ethical reasoning, and understanding the implications of the advice given.
While in Europe, I was a member of an interagency team responsible for drafting U.S. Embassy

these negotiations were routine and resolved at the lowest levels without issue. However, public

The first few weeks of our project were spent assessing the current procurement situation within
UCLA Housing Hospitality Services. We worked very closely with our stakeholder to gain an
understanding of how products are purchased, and quickly decided that our project would focus on
office supplies because they are frequently purchased and widely used, and because there are not
strict regulations regarding what kinds of products can be purchased/used (as there are for chemical
cleaning supplies, for example).
Additionally, we performed background research and analyzed the current University of California
Sustainability Practices Policy as well as past UCLA Housing purchasing data. Our findings were
surprising. We found that the current... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Taking all of this into consideration, we came up with the initial project idea of creating our own
set of comprehensive procurement guidelines. These would be quantified, clear, and concise.
However, we soon found that this project would be logistically difficult to complete and
implement, given our resources and timeline. We also realized that the current guidelines are
already available to UCLA staff, who, as the survey data indicated, are largely unaware of them.
For this reason, simply updating the existing guidelines would have likely had little effect in
changing purchasing behavior. The need for an educational component quickly became apparent
indeed, nearly 50% of survey participants identified a lack of awareness/knowledge of sustainable
products as the biggest obstacle to the sustainable procurement of office supplies at UCLA.
We delved deeper into the current procurement system, learning that the UC System is contracted
with OfficeMax and that it uses an interface known as BruinBuy to make purchases. We thus
decided to use the OfficeMax Green Office catalog (available to the public online) to compile a
product recommendation list. We also made general plans to incorporate this list into an education
program set to take place during Spring

Do not tell teenagers or young adults that they are too young to do something. Do not tell them
that they are too young to understand the way of adult life. In today s society, people tend to
believe that young adult and teenagers are too immature to make life essential decisions. Some
argue that the legal age of 18 should be riesen to the age of 25 due to scientific and learning
purposes. While others argue that it should be brought down to a lower age. For example, many
think the age of sixteen should be the legal age because it would give teenagers a sense of
responsibility. Still, people insist that young adults and teenagers don t know how to make good

you don t trust minors? Minors are the next generation of leading the world. Would bringing up
the age requirement mean that the next generation isn t ready? Or that they aren t good enough to
lead the world yet? Keeping the legal requirements would just let everything stay the same which
is fine the way it is. You would still be giving minors responsibility little by little which isn t bad
at all, because they are learning about how to be responsible. Changing the current system would
mean that new rules would have to be made. Not only that, the government would have to
experiment on what rules would work and which ones won t. This would cause turmoil in the
system and would confuse the country. In sum, the current legal system is fine the way it is now.

actions with the SLA were a result of intimidation, fear, and brainwashing; she stated that she

the kidnapping and this was just another act of her rebellion. After a 5week trial, the jury

7. Bowling For Columbine The Cove Analysis
The purpose of a documentary is to promote one s views or beliefs, in order to provoke change in
society. This is evident in Michael Moore s documentary Bowling for Columbine and Louie
Psihoyos, The Cove. Both documentaries manipulate the audience into taking the composers side
of the argument. Bowling for Columbineuses satirical humour and interviewing techniques to make
an extremely persuasive argument highlighting issues such as gun violence levels in America and
the Columbine High School massacre itself. Louie Psihoyos The Cove uses statistics and archival
footage to persuade the audience that dolphins are beginning unnecessarily slaughtered, and there is
something underhanded going on in Taiji, Japan.
Michael Moore s, Bowling for Columbine manipulates the viewer to believe that gun violence in
America is directly linked to the laws in place. Moore uses the satirical humour of South Park
cartoons to highlight that America was built on a foundation violence towards others and
eventually themselves. Satirical humour is endemic in scenes containing imagery of the Ku Klux

8. The Theories Of Clausewitz And Creveld
What is the difference in the theories of Clausewitz and Creveld? Nearly two and a half decades a
dispute between the supporters of two theories about the war is taking place. Namely, the dispute
over the trinitarian and nontrinitarian war takes from the appearance of the famous book written by
Martin Van Creveld The Transformation of War
. The cause of the dispute is allegedly the existence
of differences in understanding of the place and role of politics and its relationship with the war.
The Clausewitz s claim that the policy instrument of war became cliche in Western literature as
Waldman states . In contrast to, Creveld proposes radical, even heretical nontrinitarian model for

The Prussian military thinker explicitly claims that the abstract war in social and historical reality
appeared under Napoleon. Unlike the abstract, each concrete war is inspired by certain political
motives that can hold violence under control. Violence that is conditioned by the political purpose
of conducting the war leads us to Clausewitz s glorious determination of war as an instrument of
politics, more precisely, the continuation of politics by other means.
The war, according to Clausewitz s view, is a combination of: 1) hatred and hostility, which this
philosopher of war compares to blind natural instincts, 2) the game of chance and coincidence,
which transforms it into the free activity of the spirit and 3) subordinate nature of the political
instrument, which is why it belongs to reason. The first element mainly belongs to the people, to
the second army and military leader, and to the third government (sovereign or state). The war,
therefore, is understood in Clausewitz s theory as a social activity and as an activity that belongs
to the sphere of politics. In addition to this functional unity, the war is characterized by an inner
unity determined by its goal. In war, Clausewitz emphasizes, there is only one success, and that is
the ultimate, so war is an indivisible whole, whose parts (individual successes) have values only in
relation to this whole.

9. Taking a Look at Hurricanes
Hurricanes are first formed when warm ocean water makes energy for the hurricane and causes
evaporation making air and clouds. The ocean water temperature has to achieve at least 80
degrees fahrenheit for it to provide energy for the hurricane. The winds will then end up colliding
and force the winds upwards. After the winds have flown upward, they will flow outward above
the storm which will make the air rise. Lastly, the light winds outside the storm will let it grow into
a national storm.
There are many tropical stages a storm has to go through before reaching the final hurricane
stage. The first stage is called a tropical wave. A tropical wave storm is basically a low pressured
storm following the trade winds. The second stage is called a Tropical Disturbance. A tropical
disturbance is an area of thunderstorms that will usually form in the tropics area. These storms
only last for about a day at the most and usually produce heavy rain and gusty winds. The third
stage is called a Tropical Cyclone. A tropical cyclone is similar to a tropical wave. It produces a
low pressure storm but they develop usually over tropical and sub tropical waters. The fourth
stage is called a Tropical Depression. A tropical depression is a medium pressure storm with
winds approximately 38 mph or less. These storms are one of the first stages when meteorologists
are studying a certain storm forming. The fifth stage is called a Tropical Storm. These storms are
very common because they are the

Source: Kumar et al., 2012]
[E] Protein (Amino Acids): Amino acids are the second type of natural compounds that plants
produce to solublize and translocate minerals. Plants manufacture these compounds to make
mineral biologically available in the cell. Even when unchelated or uncomplexed minerals are
sprayed on plants, the mineral must combine with an organic compounds such as an amino acids
before the plant can effectively utilize it. As with organic acids, amino acidcompounds also play a
role in mineral uptake into plant tissue, because of the increase permeability effect of the amino
acid on the cuticle (Table 5.5).

11. Human Geography And Development Studies
In today s world people, places, societies and environments are constantly changing. Both natural
and human created events, shape the world and create strong relationships between the
environment and society. Human geography and development studies are two fields seeking to
analyse these interrelationships and answer key questions about major issues in the world such as
poverty, inequality and conflict. Human geographyis largely about studying the spatial aspects of
relationships between people and society whereas developmentstudies focusses more on the way
societies function, focussing on issues such as poverty and inequality as well as the way in which
developing nations function compared to developed nations. Through examples of poverty and
inequality this essay will explain the ways in which development studies and human geography
overlap and the ways in which they are different in their analyses.
Human geography is defined as The study of interrelationships between people, places and
environment and how these vary spatially and temporally across and between locations (Castree,
Kitchin and Rogers, 2013). It looks at how society shapes the environment and vice versa.
Although physical geography and human geography are separate fields they both concentrate on
spatial processes; physical geography more on the natural and physical sciences and human
geography on the way in which human lives are shaped by processes in nature (Castree et al.,
2013). A key principle of

14. Mein Kampf, By Adolf Hitler
Mein Kampf is a outrageous book written by Adolf Hitler. The title Mein Kampf in Germany
means my struggle and was published in the summer of 1925, followed by his second version in
1927. Mein Kampf was written while he was imprisoned. Four and a Half Years of Struggle
against Lies, Stupidity and Cowardice was Hitlers orignally title that he chose. His publisher
thought it would have been better to give it a shorter title. Hitler talked about his life and gave
ideas of how he would run Germany. He portrayed the Germans as being the superior race (blue
eyes, pale complexioned skin and blond hair) over all the other races. Hitler refers to the
German people as an Aryan or the master race. In the book, he categorized people based on their
physical appearance. Hitler s book revealed his hatred against the Jews and the Bolsheviks.
Hitler s The Mein Kampf was like some kind of Bible that the Nazis took as a guide. It basically
told them everything that they would do. Before he wrote the Mein Kampf, he was the head of the
Nazi political party in the German Government of 1923. He was known as The Fuhrer or leader.

16. The Negative Effects Of Social Anxiety
How Social Anxiety Disorder Affects people in everyday life
Human beings are one of the most social creatures on the face of the planet. We depend on each
other for positivity, support, and, believe it or not, mental health. Being around others, especially
those we share a healthy relationship with, can lower stress and anxiety. So, why is it that when
some people interact with others it is the complete opposite? Sometimes, it is just a person being
shy, or around people they don t know. Other times, it is complete fearand panic when dealing with
others ( What is Social Anxiety? , Thomas A. Richards).Situations that cause the person to get
lightheaded or panic in social events to where they want to flee and stay in isolation, rather than to

anxiety is a psychological problem that causes a fear of interactions with other people. It is the

Abstract
This paper examines the use of performance enhancing drugs (PEDs) in professional sports. In all
professional sports like baseball, basketball, football, and organized fighting, PEDs have been
used to enhance athletes, however there is a question of ethics in the use of PEDs. Some
examples of PEDs are anabolic steroids, doping, and stimulants. All of these effect an athlete s
performance in a different way, although their health is also at risk. The life span of athletes is
depleting without the use of PEDs, therefore with PEDs being used it is only worse. Also these
professional athletes are role models to thousands of young athletes. These young athletes are

Drugs like anabolic steroids are some of the most common performance enhancing drugs used by
athletes. Victor Conte, the founder and president of BALCO, a sports nutrition center in California,
has been involved in several performance enhancing drug usage cases because of his company s
involvement in the making of performance enhancing drugs. After the notable suspension of Giants
star Melky Cabrera for having high levels of testosterone, Victor Conte said, As much as 50
percent of MLB players utilize performance enhancing drugs. (Kendrick, pars. 2) This was an
especially startling claim considering that only one hundred thirteen players have been
suspended for PED usage. There are approximately 1280 players in the MLB, and only 8.82% of
MLB players have been suspended for PED usage. If Victor Conte s claim that 50% of MLB
players use PEDs is correct there are 527 players using PEDs that have not yet been caught. Other
drugs that are commonly used are stimulants. According to the Mayo Clinic in an article on PEDs,
Stimulants are drugs that can reduce fatigue, suppress appetite, and increase alertness and
aggressiveness. They stimulate the central nervous system, increasing your heart rate, blood
pressure, body temperature and metabolism. (par. 6) Some examples of these are amphetamines,
ephedrine, and mesocarb. Amphetamines primarily help players have a significantly greater level
of alertness. This aids hitters who only have approximately 0.4 seconds to hit a pitch
(efastball.com, par. 3). Ephedrine reduces fatigue in players, which can assist players to have better
strength, power, and speed. Mesocarb increases workload capacity and cardiovascular function, and
these are just three of the many stimulants baseball players, all of which having dangerous side
effects. The Mayo Clinic has concluded that stimulant use can lead to,

20. Analysis Of Barbara Bush s Speech
In May of 1990, Barbara Bush gave a speech that made waves throughout the United States. The
First Lady was asked to give a commencement address to the graduating class of Wellesley
College in Wellesley, Massachusetts. Her audience was filled with soon to be graduates and
their families. As a public figure, her speech was also reproduced to be read and listened to by
thousands of people. Being a commencement address, the speech was about life, the future, and
the graduates time at Wellesley. She explicitly stated, Today you meet on Severance Green to say
goodbye to all of that, to begin a new and a very personal journey, to search for your own true
colors. Her purpose was to impart wisdom onto her audience. Barbara Bush s speech was an... Show

The reality was quite the contrary, that the Angry 150 had valid opinions, as did their
opposition. As previously said, Barbara Bush was invited to be the 1990 commencement
speaker because she placed second in a classwide vote. Her popularity indicates that a sizable
amount of Wellesley students thought her visit would be beneficial. The class president, Julie
Porter, said, I support Mrs. Bush coming here. She s a very interesting and successful lady who
lived in a different time. She didn t have the options we have. I think women should be evaluated
not on how much money they make, but whether they re happy. Porter s remark brings to mind a
very important concept, one that Tyrell felt the petitioners were overlooking: that the progress in
women s rights did not mean the same thing for every woman. Too many of the soon to be
graduates, Barbara Bush was an icon, someone to be admired. They believed she had the right to
be their commencement speaker, just as much as Maya Angelou (1982) and Gloria Steinem (1986)
had. In the study of American history, the 1980s and 1990s are considered a time of turbulence.
Bush touches on this when she says, These These are exciting times. They re exciting in
Washington, and I have really looked forward to coming to Wellesley. She was living in the White
House, placing her at the center of everything, and she knew better than anyone what the future
may hold. When Bush gave this speech, America had already survived the fall

21. Essay about Biography of Rachel Carson
Biography of Rachel Carson
Rachel Carson is considered one of America s finest science and nature writers. She is best known
for her 1962 book, Silent Spring, which is often credited with beginning the environmental
movement in the United States. The book focussed on the uncontrolled and often indiscriminate use
of pesticides, especially dichlorodiphenyltrichloroethane (commonly known as DDT), and the
irreparable environmental damage caused by these chemicals. The public outcry Carson generated
by the book motivated the U.S. Senate to form a committee to investigate pesticide use. Her
eloquent testimony before the committee altered the views of many government officials and

Carson planned to pursue a career as a writer when she received a four year scholarship in 1925
from the Pennsylvania College for Women, now Chatham College, in Pittsburgh. Here she fell
under the influence of Mary Scott Skinker, whose freshman biology course altered her career
plans. In the middle of her junior year, Carson switched her major from English to zoology, and
in 1928 she graduated magnum cum laude. Biology has given me something to write about, she
wrote to a friend, as quoted in Carnegie magazine. I will try in my writing to make animals in the
woods or waters, where they live, as alive to others as they are to me.
With Skinker s help, Carson obtained first a summer fellowship at the Marine Biology Laboratory
at Woods Hole in Massachusetts and then a one year scholarship from the Johns Hopkins
University in Baltimore. While at Woods Hole over the summer, she saw the ocean for the first
time and encountered her first exotic sea creatures, including sea anemones and sea urchins. At
Johns Hopkins, she studied zoology and genetics. Graduate school did not proceed smoothly; she
encountered financial problems and experimental difficulties but eventually managed to finish her
highly detailed master s dissertation, The Development of the Pronephoros during the Embryonic
and Early Larval Life of the Catfish. In June 1932, she received her master s degree.

with one another during their time together. I thought this was an excellent example of the

example of shared goals for the group was setting up a Halloween party at the drop at some of

There are different reasons why patients drop out of treatment. For example, patients may be
unprepared to change, poorly motivated or inadequately committed to recovery. Certain patients
also struggle with limited resources, such as finances, housing or transportation. However,
according to a recent National Institute of Health report, the reasons for dropping out of treatment
are not typically related to the program, but are in fact personal. Surveyed clients cited lack of

25. The African Of African Descent
The people that are one of the most oppressed and restricted throughout recent history, if not the
most, are considered to be the those of African descent. There was, and arguably, still is
institutionalized racism against people of African descent in the Americas, with a prime example
being the peculiar institution of slavery. This institution was so peculiar that, in many countries,
the long, entire process of capturing, enslaving, and forcing of people to work, primarily those that
were of African descent, became so profitable and efficient that slavery became the backbone of an
entire country in terms of labor, such as the United States. Naturally, of course, there was always a
constant resistance to this oppression, no matter where the enslaved people were, or under which
circumstances they were subject to. The Africans that were brought to the Americas as captives by
Europeans would resist against their captors in different ways, and so would their descendants, until
they were liberated. Understanding what slavery was commonly like is important, as it allows one
to gain information on the outstanding cruelties of slavery, as well as give reason to the sometimes
extreme resistances put up by the Africans and African Americans. It is important to note that
enslaved persons were fifty percent more likely to die in their first fourteen years of life when
compared to their white, free, counterparts, largely due to an innutritious diet that more often than

Having World War I as the setting of Diana Prince s origin story is a bold choice, but we believe

Over the past month, we have been studying the concept of reading and writing in different
communities. To assess this, we have read two different texts. Richard Rodriguez s the
achievement of desire , from his autobiography Hunger of Memory ; and Lucille McCarthy s A
Stranger in Strange Lands: A College Student Writingacross the Curriculum from Research in the
Teaching of English . Both answer key questions regarding what it takes to become a great
reader and writer, however, from the reading that I have done, each one only answers one part of
the question. Rodriguez s main focus is in the aspect of reading, whereas McCarthy mainly
focuses on the writing portion. Both do a decent job of analyzing and putting forth a view of
how they believe a person can best perform in these environments. This then allows us to use
their concepts and create our own version, based on their points of view. But why should we
care? Most people at this level of academia will have developed a system of writing that works
for them, and will have a difficult time breaking from it if they re process doesn t meet the criteria
that Rodriguez, and McCarthy put forth. The reason it s so important is because of implications
these ideas have. Both authors put forth concepts that are indirectly related to one another and that
are highly beneficial to all who will apply them. They will force you to conform to new

possible to infer that Hosea paid thirty shekels to a person (possibly the paramour) to whom

By doing this, he returns to her what he used to give her in their former married life, but
withdrew from her at the time of their separation. This is also how Yahweh acted towards Israel.
He too gave her what she needed but withdrew it from her because of Israel s unfaithfulness. In the
new relationship, just as in Hosea s, Yahweh s gift to Israel will be his faithfulness and Love.
Whatever the exact details, it is evident that Hosea is making an attempt at restoring his relationship
with Gomer on the basis of some kind of payment. This level of understanding, though not very
precise, is sufficient for reconstructing the symbolic import of the event for the relationship between
Yahweh and Israel and more pertinent for this thesis, the relationship between Hosea and Gomer.
Having executed God s command in Hosea 3:2, in 3:3 we encounter Hosea s directive to Gomer.

purpose of comparing and evaluating to what extent her respective protagonists interact with the

Proving to be a foil character to the end, Walton learns from Victor s mistakes and returns home

how the pursuit of knowledge can corrupt the mind. Walton emphasizes how he cannot lead them
unwillingly to danger and must return, (219) not as a means to abandon his purpose but to
reevaluate it entirely. Shelley wants her reader to question if the pursuit of knowledge exists for
the sake of glory or the sake of tranquility, seeing Victor embrace the former while Walton
ultimately embraces the latter. Shelly uses Victor s last words as an evaluation and summary of
his mistakes, highlighting a shift in his tone where he speaks with a defeatists mentality after
having been prideful for so long exclaiming, farewell Walton! Seek happiness in tranquility and
avoid ambition...yet another may succeed. (220) Victor s final words are not only directed at
Walton, but directed at the reader as well. Shelley wants to emphasize the lack of correlation
between tranquility and ambition with the additional example of the Monsters simplistic pursuits
in the back of the reader s mind as well. Victors last words yet another may succeed are the most
direct indication of a critique because they suggest that it is not the pursuit of knowledge that leads
Victor to his deathbed, but instead the way in which he went about attaining it. Ultimately, by
learning from Victor, Walton attains powerful knowledge in the sense that he likely saves his own

Commuters now have to endure increasing traffic congestion because more cars are on as road that

Comparing the financial cost of the interstate with the cost of having to reallocate funding or

Currently, some contradictory notions on this topic of distribution include disputes about offering

More than 70,000 deaf Americans have received cochlear implants since the FDA approved
their use in 1985 for adults and for children in 1990 (ASHA Quick Facts 1). Since doctors
externally implant the device and link it to the auditory nerve, a hearing impaired child can detect
noises slightly faster than adults who hear normally. Supporting this conclusion, findings from the
University of Iowa s otolaryngology department studies concluded that younger children tend to
acclimate more easily, because most have not yet become accustomed to speaking with others.
The results also revealed that the earlier the procedure occurs, the more benefit that is reaped
over the long run (Cochlear Implant article, Aggen 1). In addition, this early action , top dollar

These regions were located in the east, the south and the northwest of the Soviet Union. These were
also the three major parts of the war. During the time of this war there was little rain which caused
great famine. According to the Library of Congress about 1 million Russians had left Russia during
this time of hardship and moved to other countries permanently. Eventually, Lenin and the

39. Beyond Pastel Poem
Teenagers come across several challenges every minute of their lives. They tend to feel alone
during adolescent years, and they ll try to find a hobby as a way to express themselves and their
feelings during this time. Many of them turn to poetry. Poetry is a way for teens to express a
variety of emotions in ways that can comfort them. A great amount of teen poetrysurrounds the
topics that circle their lives. For example, divorce, sexuality confusions, and parental problems.
Poetry explores many challenges which teenagers face on a regular basis.
In 2008, the number of divorces in Canada increased to 70,226. Many families have to learn to
cope with divorce, and many find it hard to deal with. In the poem Beyond Pastel by Katherine

It is repeated in the poem that he is a perfect little robot but it is also hinted that he isn t like
others, meaning that he s homosexual. The poem uses repetition to explain to readers how
society likes to construct people based on their thoughts of what perfect is. The repeating lines, I
m a perfect little robot and I perform all my duties is used in a sense of sarcasm. This creates the
feeling that the teen is angry, he s using sarcasm as a way to be semi serious but also get the
point across that its useless for everybody to be exactly the same. This poem also uses examples
of metaphors to extend the readers understanding of the poem. I was a robot is an example of a
metaphor in the poem. This explains that he was a robot, he performed all his duties, he done
everything correctly and he contributed to making society better. Instead of saying he is a robot,
he stated that he was. The now knows that he doesn t have to be the perfect little robot that
everyone wants him to be. He can be different and its okay. This shows that even though challenges

40. Istj Application Essay Example
ISTJ So what is an ISTJ and who am I? As described above, I am a quiet and reserved individual
who uses experience to make analytical decisions, but only after a lot of thought and analyzing! In
the workplace, I keep to myself for the most part and do not do a lot of conversing with
management that does not pertain to work. Most of my recent professional life has been leadership
roles, so having someone working under me has been common for many years. In the workplace,
I feel like I get along better with them. I feel that I can interact amongst the employees on the
floor and be myself more than what I can with the guys dressed in suits. My positions are usually
one of a supervisor or department manager, so I am a liaison between the entry level employees
and upper management. Some people seem to get their bonus points by congregating with
managers in their offices, but I m more comfortable amongst the hourly workers that get the work
completed. Obviously, I can communicate with upper management, but keep it strictly
professional with them. I keep work relationships minimal because I have been burned by them
before and have learned from it. I hired friends to work as assistant managers under me for a
period of time and saw my store begin to decline. I understood then that I could not have close
friends in important positions under me because the inability to separate work from social life, and
discipline and be taken serious, were too difficult at the time. Outside of work,

41. Mosaicattenuation Patterns
3) Mosaicattenuation pattern Mosaic attenuation refers to inhomogeneous attenuation seen at
inspiratory CT. This pattern may represent patchy interstitial disease, small airways disease, or
vascular disease. In patients with sarcoidosis, mosaic attenuation most often results from small
airways involvement by granulomas or fibrosis, which may lead to obstruction .In pulmonary
sarcoidosis, nodular thickening along of the airway (or bronchovascular bundle) from the lobar to
subsegmental level is a common finding due to non caseating granulomas in bronchial mucosa.
[21]To verify that the CT finding is caused by air trapping, a finding of mosaic attenuation on
inspiratory images must be compared with the parenchymal appearance on expiratory images.[18]

43. The Government As An Intermediate Agency
The government is an intermediate agency which has the main, though by no means the exclusive,
responsibility for society s adherence to the principles which favour increased autonomy and
respect for people s choices.
When one thinks about the work of governments throughout history, they look like extremely
obnoxious, or at least dangerous, artefacts, for which the need, and, consequently, the conditions
and limits, require moral justification. The mere fact that the government prescribes something to
us does not morally justify our doing it (though it may prudentially justify it, and therefore, in
some cases it may morally excuse it). The decision to obey a government must be an autonomous
one one that, like any decision which can affect other people, we should justify on the basis of a
freely accepted moral principle. But if this is so, to what extent are we really obeying the
government and not simply governing ourselves? And if the moral person always governs himself,
what, for him, is the moral relevance of having a government (besides solving co ordination
problems or altering the factual setting)?
The era of wars and terrorism was followed by segregation, racial sub ordination, and complacence.

The Polar Bear (Ursus maritimus) is a bear native largely within the Arctic Circle encircling the
Arctic Ocean, its surrounding seas and land masses. Although it is closely related to the Brown
Bear, it has evolved to occupy a narrower ecological forte, with many body characteristics adapted
for cold temperatures, for moving across snow, ice, and open water, and for hunting the seals which
make up most of its diet. Though there are many theories surrounding evolution, the two stand
outstanding hypotheses applying to the modification from Brown Bearto Polar Bear are Lamarck s
theory of Use and Disuse, and Darwin s theory of Natural Selection. The intention of this paper is to

In 1977 a drought reduced the number of small seeds available for the birds, forcing them to rely
on larger seeds and nuts, which were difficult for birds with smaller beaks to open. The number
of birds unable to eat reduced as they died and gave way to harder beaked finches. Within a
couple of generations they had evolved larger beaks. In 2003 another drought struck the
Galapagos and as there were many large beaked finches, the food source of nuts dwindled,
making the ability to eat smaller seeds an asset. The numbers of larger beaked birds dwindled as
food became scarce, leaving the smaller birds to survive and reproduce. Darwin s theory was not
well received when first written in On the Origin of Species, though many scientists today use it as
a basis for research in evolution.
Both theories suggest that a species changes over time to be able to better adapt to an environment.
Though Lamarck thought that the entire population of that species would evolve as one, i.e. all
offspring changes together with same adaptation. Darwin concluded that only the specimen with
the mutation or an altered version of a feature to evolve a species as they would be able to adapt
and survive easier than those without it, thus causing the unevolved to die off while the evolved
lived. Over many many generations the species keeps evolving until it has perfected the new trait,
also becoming a new

John Smith was as bland and inconsequential as his name. (Fusi, 45) This quote shows 2 things,

of his personality. That suggests that W.D. Valgardson chose John s name to show his
personality. To paint a picture of John Smith you need to know his physical features, his
interaction with other characters and finally his personality. John Smith had a very bland
appearance. He had a round face with blue eyes and kept very tidy facial hair. We know this from
the quote Moon faced with wide blue eyes and a small mouth above which sat a carefully
rimmed mustache. (Fusi,45) He was a skinny and short man which was a physical way of
showing his sheepish personality. We know this from the line He was a head shorter than Emma

learn that he always wears grey suits and ties. That is shown in the line He always wore light grey
ties and a light grey suit. (Fusi,52) All of these things further show John Smith s monotonous

looking at both the abiotic and biotic factors of their environment. The community pattern found on
the rocks is a zonation pattern this is because there are distinct horizontal bands of organisms from

Gause s competitive exclusion principle states that no two species with identical niches can co
exist for long in the same place. This is because they both have similar needs, and one would out
compete the other for space and food. Abiotic Environment An abiotic environmental factor
affecting the organisms in the rocky shore is the temperature, this is because the temperature of
the water affects the amount of dissolved oxygen the water can hold. Aquatic organisms are
dependent on dissolved oxygen for their survival in this ecosystem. Another abiotic factor is tidal
movement, when both organisms are not in water, they are exposed to prolonged periods of aerial
exposure, this increases the risk of desiccation for the sea slug and sea anemone. Another abiotic
factor is the weather conditions, if the organism is in the mid tidal zone and it is not saturated in
water, it could be come

48. Railway Labor Act Essay
Railway Labor Act and Impact on Modern Day Airlines For decades, the railroad industry was in
a period of great economic political, and industrial changes in the United States. The industrial
boom was taking its toll on the United States, and the widespread violent work stoppages were
detrimental to the railroad industry due to tensions escalating between unions and workers.
President Calvin Coolidge was strongly vocal about the issue and urged railroads and unions to
recommend legislation to improve relations and ultimately reduce the threat of any railroad
shutdowns. As a response, railroads and unions immediately drafted legislation, which in hopes
would improve labor and union relations. On May 20, 1029, President Coolidge signed and
designated the new law as the Railway Labor Actof 1926. Coined one of the most significant and
longest lasting pieces of legislation, the Railway Labor Act provides a mechanism through which
labor disputes between railroads and currently airlines, could be handled in a peaceful, non
disruptive manner. The Railway Labor Act of 1926 is unique unlike other legislations because it
ensures no interruption to commerce, provides an unhindered right of employees to join a labor
union, guarantees independence of an organization to enact the RLA, assists in work rules and
working conditions, and assists in a prompt and orderly settlement of disputes. The Railway Labor
Act is certainly different due to the relationship of labor and management in the

According to The Merriam Webster Dictionary Irony is 1.) the use of words to express the

and the expected result (380) In Catch 22 the type of irony that Heller uses is the second definition
incongruity between the actual result of a sequence of events and the expected results (Merriam
Webster Dictionary 380). For example in Catch 22 Heller writes Actually, there were many

The comic formula Catch 22 sums up man s position on am absurd universe, and the novel shows
that is applies to every aspect of life: to war, to love, to business, even to religion. (Colmer 210)
Part of the irony that envelops Catch 22 is the use of it s extremely creative dialogue and scenes
in the story. Heller places the reader in a atmosphere where comedy shouldn t be able to exist at
all, but Heller somehow puts a reverse on the normality and creates a memorable scene. Heller
invents dialogue rich in humor and pathos in order to fit the serious religious and philosophical
implications of Catch 22 into his comic novel. (Colmer 212)
The comedy that Catch 22 brings is ironic in itself, think how can you get humor out of war which
entails pain and suffering, that beats me how Heller does it but by whatever means used Heller
creates a complete package of humor and real life occurrences which is a great fete in itself. Though
it s comic formula riddle, Heller s novel expresses the apparently inescapable human predicament.
(Colmer 213)
The irony is also that Heller points to something more deep and unknown that war, pain, and
suffering itself. In this way Heller points to the inner realms of mans consciousness and sanity to
find a completely different and unique personality

Student Review
I have seen that living in luxury is pointless and not only that but it can effect the way one lives
for God. When you live with just the necessities, you show yourself that there is more to
entertainment and comfort in life, that seeking material wealth all the time, Is a waste of time and
the precious gift of life which God has bestowed upon us to live for His glory and not our own.
Gods will is indeed inedible. Nothing we can do will prevent what He has in store for us in this
life and the next. When we do follow Gods will and obey Him, much joy and peace will pursue
those who follow Christ. Blessings abound in the righteous living of the one who obeys and hears
God.

Hudson was faithful to God. His actions are a true model of the missionary of today and tomorrow.
Hudson s faith could be a lesson for us all,
quot; The assurance was brought vividly to me that what ever I asked of God in the name of
Christ would be done; that the father maybe glorified in the son, that what I had to do was seek
strength for the long walk, to receive it by faith and set out upon it. Unhesitatingly I told the Lord
I was quite willing to take the walk if He would give me the strength. quot; (Pg. 42)
Hudson lived for God and not himself, as seen in chapter three,
quot; I soon found that I could live upon very much less than I had previously thought possible.
Butter, Milk and other such luxuries I soon ceased to use; and I found that living mainly on
oatmeal and rice, with occasional variations, a very small sum was sufficient for my needs. In
this way I had more than two thirds of my income available for other purposes; and my
experience was that the less I spent on my self, and the more I gave away, the fuller of happiness
and blessings did my soul become. quot;
(Pg. 21)
#9;The spiritual account of Hudson is one to be reckoned in that, He is an example and role
model for missionaries today. Likewise from reading the account of Hudson Taylor, I realize that
life is to important to waste on the luxuries of life, living for self and not for Christ, but true
blessings and wisdom come for those who follow Christ and obey,

Family, being the most basic unit of structure, plays an important role in societies worldwide. It is
in the household where future generations are nurtured and educated. Relatives do not only
provide company, but are also a helping hand in times of need. The family is a community, no
matter how big or small it may be. The idea of what constitutes a familyvaries across nations and
cultures. Some people differentiate between the nuclear family and the extended family, while
others view both components as one whole. Single headed homes are also a prevalent form of
familial structure in many places of the world. Certain families may have one male head with
several wives and children or vice versa. Although the arrangements and ideas of what... Show more

In earlier years, many grandparents died before the birth of their grandchildren or soon after. This
was due to the low fertility control and late marriages in nineteenth century North America.
Couples were bearing children at a much older age, shortening the mutual lifetime between a
grandparent and a grandchild. This generation gap also explained why most households barely
contained any elderly relatives. Another reason for the prevailing nuclear family structure is the
high fertility rate. Parents were producing more than one child and when those children got
married and had children of their own, the family would have been too large to reside in just one
home. This forced the siblings to create their own nuclear families once they got married and
moved out. Shorter life spans and an increased fertility rate, were the prerequisites for North
America s nuclear family arrangement.
The Extended Family Sociologists Castillo, Weisblat, and Villareal go to a lengthy extent in order
to support the fact that a clear definition for the extended family does not exist , however, for the
sake of this research, it will be defined as being composed of any kin outside of the nuclear family.
This includes grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins, nephews, nieces, and in laws. Although not
common in the United States, the extended family format seems to prevail in other countries. The
main reason being that it
