Epidermolysis bullosa is a group of genetic diseases that cause blistering of the skin and mucous membranes. It results in fragile skin that blisters easily from minor friction or trauma. Some internal injuries can also occur, causing esophageal closure that leads to weight loss from inability to digest food, though these issues mainly appear in recessive dystrophic epidermolysis bullosa. It has no cure and causes severe, chronic wounds that easily become infected and cause malnutrition and anemia.
